City Take The…Whilst Arsenal Get Set For New Faces

Tempers in some quarters are fraying, frustrations over the lack of incoming transfer activity surfacing in various quarters. It is not surprising, all of the media coverage surround Arsenal this summer has been entirely negative raising blood pressures everywhere. To alleviate some stress, the Gervinho triplets will be arriving next week, ending another convoluted transfer saga. A start, the manager arguing that he is working long hours to identify and sign players.

Such elongated activity is going to continue. Manchester City’s announcement of a new sponsorship deal causes Uefa an immediate headache over FFP.  City might crow about how good the deal is but a tame sponsor has helped matters. The commercial redevelopment obfuscates the associated financial values.

Without planning permission and accurate blueprints, they cannot assess the true value of the property allowing City and Etihad to put their own valuation at this moment in time. The minute this goes over £200m, it becomes a finger in the air exercise. No amount of protesting is going to change this, vincit omnia veritas.

Barcelona have a €30m per year shirt sponsorship deal, Manchester United £20m, Real Madrid similar. City will not have much trouble arguing that £10-15m per season is market value. That leaves £10m per season for the naming rights, an amount that to some extent Arsenal justify. The Emirates deal is a poor one for the club, it was not at the time and that is what matters. City’s £5-10m per season is in that bracket, market value indeed.

The self-sustaining financial model is one that all clubs are now aspiring to. Creative accounting is helping one of the richest clubs to get there quicker than most.

So to Arsenal. After considerable silence, Arsenal have spoken regarding Cesc and Nasri. As definitively as Barcelona’s inability to raise sufficient funds to buy the Arsenal captain, reducing to haggling over completed and unrelated deals whilst putting players in who Arsenal do not appear to be interested into the frame. The players were left in no doubt as to their manager’s mood,

Our position is always the same – we want to keep Cesc and I will fight as hard as I can to keep him. Samir Nasri is exactly the same. We will do everything we can to keep him.

Whether he is able to keep both remains to be seen. Has Nasri changed his mind or is this posturing by the manager, appeasing supporters to some extent? With Cesc, I see the position as it always has been: Barcelona have to match the valuation or the player will not be leaving. Nasri? I am not so sure. I can see him remaining at the club but not beyond next summer. His head has been turned by the money on offer. Perhaps he genuinely thinks City are a good option. United? He has to wait.

Either way, the French midfielder will be going to the Far East next weekend. Cesc has home-based rehabilitation, Nasri will perform with a strong squad. It is encouraging that Ryo Miyaichi is also making the trip, presumably the club feel confident that he will get his work permit for the coming campaign.

Whilst the key requirements of the squad improvements this summer must surely be more defensive players, the form shown at Feyenoord suggests that Miyaichi might well be this season’s Wilshere. With the players at Wenger’s disposal, there will surely be a more leisurely introduction for the Japanese youngster than a regular starting place in the first XI.

As far as other rumours go, Thiago Motta’s agent felt it necessary to issue a denial about a move to Arsenal even though there has been no offer to Internazionale. That said, a lot is being written about Juan Mata and no official offer has been made to Valencia yet either. Will  they go  the same way as Ricky Alvarez or are they to be unveiled in the next month as Arsenal players? We shall see.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. wot, no comments? Chad

  2. “Whether he is able to keep both remains to be seen. Has Nasri changed his mind or is this posturing by the manager”

    Most likely the later…

  3. Keep calm fans, no time to start stressing our yet. Watch the ulsers! I feel a little relaxed in the knowledge that Wenger is not looking forward to FANS insults and boos for the entire 2011-12 season.

However, I feel saying our goodbyes to Cesc and Nasri is not premature, and both lads eyes are already fastened to the green grasses away from the Emirates, but Arsenal management and Arsene has to find suitable replacements before announcing the same.

Seeing Sir Bobby lastnight on TV, one might have thought he was about to mount a bid for the next World Cup.

  4. Gervinho triplets?

  5. Well said Yogi, a more balanced review of what is happening. We have been done over by silly media to the extent that Ces and Sami are gone; decision made this Thursday refuses to ever play again for Arsenal etc. etc. . Even the great sports writer (with his usual crap) from the BBC stated Nasi has gone to United. It is no wonder some so called fans of Arsenal are screaming for the bosses head. I.M.O we have a good squad and with perhaps one or two additions, Miyaichi who from his U.Tube displays is mouth watering. Lets just wish for no injuries.

  6. mumbai gooner

would love to see ryo in our team sooner

  7. Fingers crossed that someone in the Home Office is a gooner.
It’s nice to know that Stan isn’t going to be usurped by some jumped up a-rab and has splashed out on new team transport.

  8. Arsene shouldn’t cave in under Barca pressure. He goes for 50m or he stays. We should offer Nasri what he wants, 110k. If Eboue on 60k, Denilson 50k and Rosicky 60k just as squad players then 110k for Nasri shouldn’t be too much.

Wilshere, Gibbs, Ramsey and Theo are all growing and can give us the passion needed to push the other players forward.

The general consensus is that Gibbs is not ready but if he avoid injuries and plays regularly, he’s going to be our next Cole not Cashley. He just needs to play to develop.

  9. Gervinho triplets?
    someone explain what this means.

  10. Wenger is good at shipping out players just before their used buy date and collecting a good price. Viera, Henry, Petite, Hleb, Overmars are the main ones.
The trip to Asia is set to go but Captain Fabregas already has a niggling hamstring after being off all summer. His last year was not his best and he was injured (hamstring) quite a lot.
Have we considered that he made the first team at 16+, has played many games for his age, maybe too many. Most players come to prominence at approx 22 years. That puts Cesc’s footballing age at close to 29 – 30.
Its possible (and I only say possible) Cesc could have 1 good year left. Do we keep him for this year or possibly sell and benefit while we can as long as Barcelona pay his current value.
We screwed them over Henry and Hleb whilst collecting some great new talent for next to nothing.
I love Fabregas for Arsenal but only when he is actually playing.

  11. Zak / Chas

He talked about himself in the third person earlier in the summer – https://aculturedleftfoot.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/as-the-transfer-mayhem-begins-will-arsene-strike-quickly/ – will introduce you to this party piece.

    YW

  12. 35 days….

  13. morning warrior… did you say Nasri had taken a trip to manchester area, in your last post??
    UP THE GUNS OF ARSENAL.!!!!

  14. Well the daily ma atleast sees the importance of keeping Arsenal fans updates wit the ” both are going” daily article they have going. Their tactic is ” if you say something g often enough it becomes true”.

  15. I’m wondering about a situation where both Nasri & CESE might stay one more season, . now that ,as you say, ” their heads are turned ” , can we expect full effort from them???
    i really wonder..

  16. Please sell cesc to barca 35m plus maxwell and abidail and buy benzema.
with what is left over from that and the clichy money bring in parker and barton. then swap bendtner and denilson with tarrabt.

nasri would be sure to sign a new deal with 3 of his best pals in football joining the club.

finally sell squillaci rosicky and traore and buy samba or cahill.

  17. Dont think Nasri will be going to the Far East as he is signing for City.

The crazy thing is Clichy has gone Cesc and Nasri will follow yet none of the deadwood have left.We are stuck with them. All on big wages and we cant shift them.

With the £60m we will get in for Cesc and Nasri.Spend it, Get in Given Baines Samba Cahill Parker and Benzema.
I dont want arsenal to sell their best two players for £60m and spend £20m and £40m goes in the bank like the £41m we got for Adebayor and Toure

  18. AW is attitude give me serious consign, the way he sign players, grad issue on necessary i think Wenger has not learn his lesson

  19. Disregarding the sorry subject of transfers for the moment, I’m very much looking forward to the possible introduction of Miyaichi next season….provided the current legal obstacles can be overcome. Dare I suggest that this is when we could do with the skills of David Dein in
negotiating with the mandarins in the Home Civil Service.

  20. Graham

So replace our ‘best’ players with Benzema – who knows how he will settle in the Premiership… 2 CB’s which we don’t need as we already have 3 very good ones… and a LB.

Who will provide that killer pass, who will instigate play, what about the loss of creativity.

It isn’t that easy to replace these guys, Wenger knows that. Even if we find players that are more efficient in other leagues or in the Premiership even.. there will be still question marks on how they integrate into our team.

Gervinho looks like a good buy and you know Wenger has done his research, its not as simple as name picking by quality.

  21. come to think of it. i think this is the 4th time Daily Mail has that exact article with that exact picture saying the exact same thing, they changed the 19m with 23M but that sabout it.
    How lazy are they!

  22. @ayode what is his lesson ? i dont get it? i think you have to tell us what should be done who should go out and who should come in and what AW has to do to to “have learned his lesson”

  23. george rodger

About as lazy with their ideas as people who trot out ,Samba,Parker and Benzema as if they are the answer to all our perceived woes.Last year it was Carlton Cole and Joe Cole FFS.

  24. Morning ACLFers. Did anyone get to see the Chile v Uruguay game last night? Pls give feedback on the game especially what u thought of Arturo Vidal & Alexis Sanchez + any other player(s) that caught your eye….muchas gracias.

  25. george rodger

The easiest and most recognizable names are always the best options to these kind of fans. There are so many other factors to consider, its why I am happy to let Wenger go and make his signings rather than have anyone advise him! Especially the likes of Wright and Merson! Had Wenger listened to Wright the other day he would have bid 30m for the GREAT Essien.. look at him now his career is in serious doubt.

  26. morning george,, morning all

  27. The mail seem to be printing a daily update, which they are quite obviously just making up. Today say that we will accept £35M for Cesc. How on earth would hey know that? Probably only a handful of people at the club will have even discussed the issue. There are no”insiders” privy to the CEO and Managers valuation of players. Sheeeesh!

  28. 35 mil is crazy andy,, he is worth at least 60.. maybe even 70

  29. I think it’s time clubs and managers stood their ground and stop letting players take the mik!!! I think we should put Nasri into the reserves for next season and let him still just watch them play from the bench…. Then just let him piss off when his contract runs out… Any other players who show that kind of disloyalty simply do the same thing let them rot on the sidelines!!!

  30. george rodger

Having said that Benzema would be nice 🙂

  31. haze i agree that this is out of hand . he needs to be taught a season. but at a cost of 25mil to ARSENAL??? NO TNX ,,i ll take the money now and do something with it.. he will learn his leason nxt year on the bench, maybe at city.. maybe abroad..

  32. funny thing, the basterds don’t even need him. they got silva. he will be sorry like some of the others that left. I’m just sorry he can’t see that now..

  33. england vs. france today…. Aman, did you see the game and Arturo??

  34. no kamran, did not hence my need for feedback

  35. i hear good about him from everyone…

  36. right,, think ill make it a point to watch next time he is playing. just to get an idea.

  37. What really went on….

Wenger: eh Nasri, why don’ts u just sign ze contract

Nasri: no no no.. u don’t play me in ze centa n my pay is poo poos compared to Messi wen i am jus az gooods

Wenger: ok ok, i will talk to ze board n get u a la payrize.. 100k

Nasri: I will not zign ze contract, my agent says my career will b betta off in Citi manchestor wiv all ze greats like Jamiez Milner n Barree.

Wenger: Okay, screw u samirr, u can sit on ze bench for a year!

Nasri: I’m sorri le boss, i need more monei… i mean i need to betta my career

There you go media.. exclusive interview

  38. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t! Do I do an interview and reference the fact we are in the market for new players or do I carry on trying to resolve our incoming and outgoing staff in private while a section of disgruntled fans join forces with a bored, pointless media and ridicule, slate and attempt to de-stabilise the club.

  39. nice chris,, i so hope he would stand up and take his place in the team.. it would be great if he helped out in this coming campaign.
good thing about news of the world shutting down.. and the guy was camrons press secratery too. hah. such sleazebags

  40. He’s becoming completely ridiculous.

  41. It’s the weekend and I see the asylum has let a few imbeciles out on a weekend pass again.

    Good stuff YW.

  42. Or is that one imbecile with many names.

  43. Nasir Jones-Nasri

    Nice one as usual, YW.

You’re a smart man, Danny. Proper Gunner

  44. Our biggest test and indicator of who will stay and who will go comes for us with the CL qualification matches. Ones you played those you are cuptied which is why Squillachi did not play for Sevilla last year. it will be interesting to see if any of them play those matches.
If we do go through its very likley Nasri will sign a new contract and Cesc will stay. If we fail to go through they both probably leave.

Also most of our big signings probably wont happen until we are through. A 3rd place last season would have seen us wrap up our targets faster. But as we are a CL club we need CL quality players. The Carrols and the Hendersons of the world are not worth buying for a CL club, those kind of players we imo can develop ourself. They are players with potential however at the stage we are at atm we need players with proven quality. Like gervinho(player of the year in cote de ivory?) and Mata(already qualified for CL play with Valencia).

So will Cesc and Nasri play this important game for us risking becoming cuptide? Or will they pass in an attempt to be “clean” for their potential new employers?
Winning those matches will be the most important for us this year. If we loose it we are just like liverpool.

  45. Sponsored the owners airline well well Manchester City the scourge of modern day football

  46. Good points poodle @ 10.32 am

  47. Interesting to see Wenger looking for ‘one or two’ quality additions.

    As things stand:

    – 2 of our 3 best players want to leave

    – There is zero interest in the likes of Denilson and Bendtner because their wages are far too high

    – Because Gibbs ‘has to have a chance to play’ we’re going to start the season with a 21 year old left back who has been around the first team for 4 or 5 seasons but has been unable to play 10 games in any of those campaigns. The back up will presumably be a 21 year old who spent last season on loan at Cartagena – effectively playing reserve football.

    The ship is going down.

  48. and what is your point jamesM?

  49. I would have thought the point is fairly obvious. The ship is going down.

If the points mentioned above actually happen, then we won’t qualify for the Champions League next season.

Do you have a point you’d like to make?

  50. There’s a life jacket with your name on it JamesM…c’mon man take it & maybe you can write a book about your experience as a doomer….

  51. longblackcloud

Nice article YW. AW quote about Cesc reminds me of the Vieira & Henry summers
Did I see a rumour about Lucio earlier this week?
Still think he would be ideal even if he is only capable of 20-25 games, could come in and play to rest 1st choice (TV/JD or LK) and not be phased no matter how big the occassion, like Sol did but hopefully not required as offen

  52. JamesM

I remember another 21 year old coming of the back of an 18 month injury who took the LB position post-cashley!

And even he wasn’t a full international! The ship’s just fine, thank you.

  53. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Let the cunt drown in his tears, Aman. Fuckin Spud cunt

  54. And also JamesM,

Just how much of Pedro Have you seen?

Just to enumerate how many players can play @ LB

    -Gibbs
    -Vermaelen
    -Traore
-Jenkinson (Played half of last season at leftback for Charlton)
    -P Bothelo
    -Eboue
    -Coquelin

    That’s 7 players…
Not exactly Groundhog’s day, is it?

  55. BTW YW, great post as ever

  56. @JamesM again matey i dont really understand what you on about. I wonder if anyone does. Are you one of em nerds that “speak klingon”? maybe that is why i dont get your meaning.
Return to start and try again 🙂

  57. Yes, Danny sums it up at 10:05 am. I’m looking forward to the (pre-season) football to start now, nothing else. No need to panic when there are games to watch. No need to panic at all really.

Support the England Women later! They show far more commitment than the men and are all rather more likable too.

  58. -Gibbs
    -Vermaelen
    -Traore
-Jenkinson (Played half of last season at leftback for Charlton)
    -P Bothelo
    -Eboue
    -Coquelin

    That’s 7 players…
Not exactly Groundhog’s day, is it?

Gibbs – Never been fit enough to play 10 games in a row.
Vermaelen – Our best centre-back. We don’t have enough quality there as it is
Traore – Not good enough, even Wenger recognises that by loaning him out to anyone who’ll pay his wages.
Jenkinson – Half a season in a 3rd division side. Say no more.
Botelho – Loaned out to a Spanish second division side, never played a game in England
Eboue – Right footed, can’t defend
    Coquelin – Right footed

So where’s the experienced ‘Top 4’ left back in that massive list?

  59. Poodle

“@JamesM again matey i dont really understand what you on about. I wonder if anyone does. Are you one of em nerds that “speak klingon”? maybe that is why i dont get your meaning.
Return to start and try again ”

No I speak English, unlike you if that post is anything to go by.

My point in words of no more than two syllables is as follows:

Arsenal’s squad will be weaker at the start of the new season that at the end of last season. Given the poor form in 2011, I believe that we will finish lower in the league than last season. This means we won’t qualify to play in the Big Cup (Champions League for people who understand long words) with the big teams and we’ll have even less money to buy players. This in turn will mean that people will stop wanting to go to the big concrete football place (stadium for people who understand long words).

So again, do you have a point you’d like to make or are you going to go back to the dot-to-dots and colouring books?

  60. Gervinho will be officially announced as an Arsenal player on Monday, however, the three of them will not be joining the team on the Asia tour, but spending the week at London Colney with a physical trainer.

  61. @JamesM

Dude you are seriousley panicking, take chill pill and go outside ejoy the sun. The window is long and you just got to chill or it will kill you. I will not engange in discussions with you cos I know whatever i say you biggest goal here today will be to prove me wrong.

If you want to sit inside and hate then you do that. hope it makes your day mate 🙂 it certainly made mine.
Now im of to my “dot-to-dots and colouring books”. Have fun hating matey 🙂

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2012774/Arsenal-sell-Cesc-Fabregas-Barcelona-35m.html
just thought you would love to read this article, to make your day complete i mean. Nothing as good as some extra bad news on such a black day 😛

  63. Fucking hell, why do all sooner cunts read from the same hymn-sheet? All this received wisdom which they all instantly agree on and feel the need to share is soooo fucking frustrating. “can’t shift bendtner & denilson because their wages are too high”, has it ever crossed your puny prepubescent mind jamesM that maybe we aren’t trying to shift them…how the fuck do u know what’s going on behind the scenes?? Every year it’s exactly the same, some doofus (myles palmer probably) picks a name out of the hat and bingo! Thousands of minions go forth and multiply across the blogosphere saying we should buy so and so…don’t sign him? Ok well we’ll pick someone else, and throw in some unsubstantiated shit about how club is being run as well as a sensationalist catch phrase to sign off on. Please please do us all a favour and FUCK OFF!

    Feeding the trolls, I know…

  64. @JamesM

“never played a game in England”

Aha!! the old ‘Premiership Experience’ clause. One would think all the best premiership players were all homegrown. By you evaluation, Javier Hernandez and Rafael wouldn’t be welcome in our club.

  65. That’s a shame Northbank. I was hoping the Gervster could team up with Theo and RVP in the front line on tour .. a 4-3-5.

  66. Sooner cunts? Stupid phone, should have read as doomer…

  67. Nasri and Cesc refusing to play the champs league qualifier or even Wenger not playing them so he can sell them for a greater fee… what is this nonsense?!

If either of them is on their way out it must be done fairly sharpish. I can’t imagine Wenger letting one go so soon to the seasons 1st match.

  68. I for one am pleased that AW is only looking for another “1 or 2” players. I don’t know what the transfer budget is but would rather us be looking to get 1 or 2 £20m plus players than 4 or 5 £10m players who are no better than those we have have. We need quality signings, not quantity. 1 top quality CB (now many CB’s do we need ffs?) and personally I think we need a top quality box to box midfielder, someone who runs with the ball and can get in the box and score.

just thought you would love to read this article, to make your day complete i mean. Nothing as good as some extra bad news on such a black day 😛

There I was thinking I was having a grown-up conversation eh!

But it’s rather fun to hear the opinions of less optimistic fans. I just can’t understand, though, what pessimism does to the human brain.

    Fact
Last season we had the strongest first eleven bar Almunia

    Fact
Last season saw the emergence of 2 major new talents is Jack and Szczesny

    Fact
Two of our 3 rivals (Chelsea and Man U) Have seen natural player amortization reduce the quality of their star players (Chelsea [Terry, Drogba, Essien, Cole] Man U [Ferdinand, rtd(Giggs, Scholes)])

So why arsenal? Is this some sort of fetish with the british media to kick a man while he’s down? That would explain the News of the World saga.

  70. Sixtay, once again a player leaves and isn’t replaced. It’s groundhog day alright

  71. @jabberwocky at 12.11pm

It could have gone either way ie: gooner cunts lol but doomer is better

  72. @GunFlash

    which players is that?

Could it be the same one moaners were crucifying all year, that guy? Clichy was a quality player, but he’s defo replaceable.

Note: When a player is third choice LB for his country, It’s safe to say he’s replaceable, no?

  73. Omer

They may play in the FC Cologne game. Can’t wait to see how he links up with RVP. Interesting times.

  74. Nice post Yogi. As always thanks for your daily musings. How you do it day in and day out is amazing. Your persistence is legendary. Don’t always agree with everything you say but certainly appreciate the chance to talk about Arsenal in a somewhat sane atmosphere. Props again to you.

    Poodle @ 10:32:

Spot on. Will be interesting to see who does play in the CL qualifier. Certainly remember Cashley was not playing during the summer before he was sold. Cesc’s persistent hamstring issue is a real concern. If he has not healed after a summer of relative inactivity then we have a real problem with him even if he does stay. Are we looking at another year of him laying on the training table? Hope not. The other possibility is that it is just a smoke screen. No one has a clear crystal ball at this point but hard to see how the Nasri thing can turn our in our favor unless the club caves in. Nothing we can do about any of it so realistically there is no reason to worry or get frustrated. I am glad there are people like you who can smile through it all.

  75. I don’t think nasri leaving would signal a crisis, same goes for cesc, there is no point keeping a player that needs to be convinced he should stay, shows he doesn’t have d mental strenght we need,d thunder cunt had only 4 asists in all competitions, compared to AA’s 11 in d league, pass completion of 41% to AA’s 45% and AA is a player dat got a lot of flak from the fans last season, true, nasri scored some breathtaking goals last season but he aint d finished product yet,and if he feels he is too good a player to wear d arsenal jersey, then let the cockbreath go,it will give other players d chance to step up and get noticed.

  76. www @ 8:39am,

Who supplies your gear and does he/she have more?

  77. george rodger

Cesc and Nasri will play if they are fit.
It would be a “statement of intent” 🙂 (I am annexing simpleton’s catchphrases)

  78. Poodle – I don’t hate you or Arsene Wenger. I just happen to think that you’re wrong in your assessment of the club’s chances next season unless some significant improvements are made to the squad.

Last summer a large number of fans weren’t happy with the transfer deals done by the club but listened to Wenger when he asked to be judged in May at the end of the season and said we would deliver during 2010-11.

The judgment in May among the majority of fans was ‘not good enough’
45,000 turning up for the final home game, only 10,000 staying for the lap of honour, 5,000 sarcastically singing ‘We defended a corner’ at Craven Cottage all suggest widespread dissatisfaction among the fans.

Wenger has since promised to be ‘very active’ in the transfer window. As of the 9th of July we’ve signed a 19 year old right-back with less than 20 games in the 3rd division.

Gervinho has average statistics and plays in a ‘meh’ league. He’s never played in European competitions.

Nasri and Fabregas do not want to be at the club and even if they do stay they’ll be phoning in performances like Overmars and Adebayor did.

Having listened to the same promises for 4 years, I’ve lost faith in Wenger’s ability to keep us at the top.

  79. george rodger

Dgob,Dont laugh at him.He did just that last night on “Champ Man” and won the league.Just goes to show

  80. george rodger

James,I am sure Wenger will be gutted to learn that despite keeping us at the top every year since he joined us,someone of your great standing in the game has “lost faith” in him.

  81. george rodger,

    Isn’t that ‘Chump Man’?

I actually (meaning – ‘really’ and ‘seriously’) think Yogi should imortalise that 8:39am post in some way in order to typify the responses of a certain faction of fans(?) concerning the vital issues of:

    a) Why Arsene has got it wrong (should go) and

  82. ”I am sure Wenger will be gutted to learn that despite keeping us at the top every year since he joined us,someone of your great standing in the game has “lost faith” in him.”

It’s not just him though, that’s the point. Not that I’ve lost faith in him, but I’ve met so many more fans who have this year than ever before.

  83. Alex Ice Cream

The utterly cr@p commercial deals that we caved into out of desperation are looking worse and worse by the day. So what if we needed the money for the stadium we had one of the best teams in history at the time and we sold the rights for peanuts.

I would break the contract and pay out whatever is necessary or tell Emirates to pay up or fu*k off. Even though our team is nowhere near as good as before we can still do better than this poxy deal which also includes shirt sponsorship!! This must be one of the worst ever deals and we signed it for 10 or 15 years (not sure which)

More bleatings from Arsene about how hard it is to make siginings – well it doesn’t stop other clubs from making them – we just want to do things on the cheap.

I have often been labelled a doomer on here but it is now clear that my posts if anything, were too optimistic. We are getting left behind.

Arsenal being a well-run club is a myth.

  84. Alex Ice Cream

    JamesM,

Its unfair to just blame AW – the board are more to blame. Don’t forget that it wasn’t AW who signed the ridiculous commercial deals and it wasn’t AW who trousered the 42m we got from the sales of Ade and Kolo on top of the 135 that we spent on reducing debt in 2009. That’s 170ish million that was not invested in the team (8 or so spent on Tommy V) and the board plead poverty and raised ticket prices.

When will people wake up an realise that this board/owner are leading our club ever downwards and unfortunately AW seems powerless to stop it.

  85. Yogi,

    A beautiful post today.

    Thanks

  86. I’ve been stating my hopes and optimism about Miyaichi for a while now and just pray that he lives up to his billing. With him and Theo on the flanks and (should Cesc go and Samir remain) Nasri through the middle – suitably complemented by RvP and all three Gervinho’s up front – I think we will have the decisive speed and cutting edge that has been missing since the days of PV4, TH15, Pires and Bergkamp.

I realise that this formtation could take a season to gel but this and any other defensive additions would only increase to the mouth-watering prospect of next season: for me.

  87. george rodger

AIC,What makes you so sure that we should have spent £170 million on the squad rather than doing as the board did?
Really. If you have a diploma in Economics,I would ask for my tuition fees to be refunded.
Arsenal are the best run club in the country, possibly the world.Because the people who run it do not do so along the lines you would proves nothing, other than you know nothing about running a successful business.
I understand that you are only concerned with winning stuff. But they have to look at a very much bigger picture.

  88. “When will people wake up an realise that this board/owner are leading our club ever downwards and unfortunately AW seems powerless to stop it.”

    A-Ice Cream,
When AW himself cries out THEN we’ll all cry out. As long as he doesn’t we’ll just assume the best and support the work that’s being put in.

Seems some fans just won’t GET NO SATISFACTION unless we SPEND BIG on some BIG players.(tut, tut)…

Then they intend to support their beloved club at the top of their voices at every game in every city in sickness & in health…WOW!

What great fans Arsenal FC have
    So much LOVE, stupendous LOYALTY
What more can they ask for?
Maybe after we win every cup in sight
    They’ll LOWER TICKET PRICES
in appreciation of our absolute SUPPORT??

(sigh..i’m off to lick some ice-cream to boost my gooneriness)

  89. Dgob

If Cesc goes Nasri through the middle. What tosh

Cesc was injured in the Carling cup final did Wenger play him in the middle? No

In the run in when Cesc was injured did Wenger play Nasri in the middle? No

  90. george rodger

karim, its in French. That no good to me 😦

  91. The reason that Gervinho isn’t going on the Asia tour is that Arsenal FC couldn’t afford to pay for three airline seats for them.

  92. all 3 staying in London to work on fitness

  93. george rodger

    Enough already.

  94. You are on a hot streak Northbank!

  95. “Even though our team is nowhere near as good as before we can still do better than this poxy deal which also includes shirt sponsorship!! This must be one of the worst ever deals and we signed it for 10 or 15 years (not sure which) ”

I’m not sure what’s most pathetic about this drivel and it’s poster. Is it the ill informed nature of the comment? It’s childishness? Or, yes, this is it, being to bloody lazy to look up the facts on which your ‘argument’ is based.

    Do the usual AIC.

  97. Is Fabianski still alive? Did he mysteriously disappear? Hasn’t been named in the squad for the Asia tour.

Also interesting that some of the players that were expected to leave are on the plane. Traore is in the squad and so is Denilson.
On the other hand, Nicklas Bendtner is not. Is he injured? Or is that a sign that he might be off?

    @Evil

The BBC claim that Bendtner and Almunia are in talks for a move.

  99. I gotta feeling
That this season’s gonna be a good one
That this might just be our best in a long time yeah
(sing like the black eyed peas song)

Seems like Rodallega’s wishing for some Emiratis dietis
I would love to have him @AFC
If not this year maybe next year on a free
    As Rosicky’s replacement.

Fabianski, Almunia, Bendtner, Henderson not in the Asia tour squad
Might u know why, A-ice Cream?

  100. skywatchingmug

Fabianski is still on the injured page of Arsenal.com last updated on the 23rd June.

  101. How long does he plan to be injured? He is supposed to give Szczesny some good competition in pre-season! He can be injured AFTER the battle for number one is decided. Unless it’s decided in his favour, then he shouldn’t even dare thinking about getting injured.

  102. So our injured are: Fabregas, Fabianski, Eboue & Diaby?

  103. I was hoping Fabianski would be our first choice GK this year. If he is still injured I sure hope we are secretly looking for an experienced GK. Much as I love him and his memory Jens Lehmann is probably not the answer.

Diaby most likely has some sort of muscular problem. Thats a shocker.

That has had me in stitches!

  106. Goner,

    What ‘tosh’?

If Cesc does go, then the way we play changes. This includes a change in some players’ role. Nasri is a central midfield player whom we are seeking to appease. You do the maths.

    Tosh?

Shay given was there for the taking. Would have been ideal imo.

  108. Karim @ 2:47 pm,

And, as with arse holes, they only put out a processed version of what went in. It’s just a shame that more people (including supposed AFC fans) feed on a staple diet of media produced hysteria. Oh how I’ll mourn the passing of the NOTW!

“Morning ACLFers. Did anyone get to see the Chile v Uruguay game last night? Pls give feedback on the game especially what u thought of Arturo Vidal & Alexis Sanchez + any other player(s) that caught your eye….muchas gracias.”

Shitty game. Neither team was able to hold possession for very long and there were long spells of hoofball. Vidal was okay. He wasn’t too influential. The midfielder who did work his socks off was Gary Medel. He was everywhere. Sanchez scored a pretty nice goal. Beausejour received the ball on the left just outside of the area and cut it back in to Sanchez. Sanchez received the ball about five yards inside the penalty area, cut in and struck the ball past Uruguay’s goalkeeper with his toe.

  111. what gets me with the sponsers, is that we are profit orientated club..im sure if a couple of sponsers approached us and one offered us 25mil per year to put them on our kit and the other offered us 25mil per year to hang them from our stadium…ivan would take it..

i just think we are struggling to attract them..

we aint exactley everyones cup of tea..we get so much negative PR its unreal and unless your a business who believes any publicity is good publicity, your not exactley going to throw large amounts of cash into a club that everyone ridicules..

we need to start winnin things or gazidis and his team will find it hard to market us..

With the £60m we will get in for Cesc and Nasri.Spend it, Get in Given Baines Samba Cahill Parker and Benzema.”

Wow! You want to get rid of the dead wood just to bring in more dead wood like Parker, Samba and Cahill? I think Baines is a decent player but I don’t think he’s good enough to be at Arsenal. He’s too suspect defensively. And what has Benzema done other than sit on the bench at Real Madrid? That kid has got to be the most hyped player in the world. That Mourinho brought in Adebayor and plays anyone but him should tell you something.

  114. Come on, England!

  115. Old footage of Bendtner:

    Note the target man comment.

  116. By the way, fabianski is fine but training separately because he is recovering from the injury.

  117. FunGunner:

    Thanks. Thats good news.

  118. Dont know how any one can be calling the likes of Samba, Cahill and Parker deadwood, they all featured for their teams this last season. Where as our dead woods are dead woods for a reason. Simple minds eh!
So many so quik to jump on peoples backs and discredit any suggestions of players that can strengthen us. Then claim our dead wood are better,, pfffft. You have just as much chance of knowing these players wont fit in as any one who thinks they will,, You say some stupid thing some times Gainsbourg.

  119. Gainsbourg69

Jabberwocky: “Fucking hell, why do all sooner cunts read from the same hymn-sheet? Please please do us all a favour and FUCK OFF!”

Jabber, you’ve got these guys all wrong. They are realists not AKBs. They are paragons of individuality and critical thought. Don’t you forget that. Nevermind that this talking point has been flogged by every two bit hack in the Arsenal doomersphere. These guys think for themselves. End of.

  120. Gainsbourg69

Let’s see. Parker’s team was in last place for almost the entire season. When he did get called up for England his lack of quality was there for everyone to see. Cahill and Samba helped their teams do worse this season than the previous one. Just because they’re tall and have EPL experience doesn’t make them good players, friend.

Keep the dead wood away from Arsenal Football Club!!!!

  121. Some of you people are ridiculous. The fact that you have already conceded losing Cesc and Nasri show you have no ability to separate yourself from the sensationalist bull shit. Cesc is reported to have made a statement vowing to “make it up to the fans” for missing the Asia trip earlier today. He will be playng for the Arsenal this year. And, Nasri is just trying to get the best deal he can right now because he knows he has the leverage. I have full faith that both will stay, Gervinho will be added, and our attack will be devastating this year.

I recommend those that cannot help but be swayed by the media turn their T.V. sets off and don’t browse websites so as not to believe every half cocked story about our imminent collapse. In short…grow up and think for yourself children.

  122. Gainsbourg69

Forgot to add. Our bench is not dead wood, you prick. Tomas Rosicky is the captain of the Czech republic. Eboue is a starter for the Ivory Coast and is a reliable back up for Sagna. Squillacci did better with Djourou beside him than did Koscielny. Diaby went to the world cup with France and is in their set up under Laurent Blanc just like Samir Nasri is. Denilson is still developing and has had to contend with a back injury for the last couple of seasons. Bendtner is a starter for the Danish NT and is developing as well. Parker, Samba and Cahill, two fringe players for the England NT and a player from a team who are perennial relegation fodder, are fucking dead wood.

  123. Gains,

Thanks for making those comparisons. It is funny how people become so enamored with the grass is always greener mentality without really weighing up the facts involved.

  124. skywatchingmug

I’ve seen a lot of Paker over the last few seasons and deadwood he is not.

  125. parkers a good player..

For all those concerned about the AST’s public role this last Spring, we should at least acknowledge that they are putting some pressure on UEFA to examine the financial propriety of this new sponsorship deal between City and Etihad for a whopping 40 million a season for naming rights. Good on the AST if if might lead to scrutiny on this deal.

Wouldn’t it be good business to pay off the current Emirates deal for a new lucrative one or at least to renegotiate the Emirates deal in light of the current values? It might make sense to work into a long term sponsorship contract the next time around some clauses that allow us more flexibility and insure that Arsenal is always receiving at least the market average of the sponsorship deals of the top 4 teams in the PL besides ourselves, or the top 8 in Europe (what we have been historically over the last decade and a half). That would have been helpful the last time around but there isn’t any excuse with the top executive team Arsenal have recently put together not to insure Arsenal suffer no commercial disadvantages vis a vis our major competitors in our next future deal.

  127. Gainsbourg69

    L’equipe artcle about Gervinho:

Le feuilleton Gervinho touche à sa fin. Après plusieurs jours de négociations, Lille et Arsenal sont tombés d’accord sur le montant et les modalités du transfert de l’attaquant ivoirien. Les Anglais vont payer 12 millions d’euros, bonus compris, pour un joueur qui n’avait plus qu’un an de contrat. Gervinho, qui avait passé sa visite médicale mercredi, s’est engagé quatre ans. Il sera présenté officiellement à Londres lundi.

The Gervinho saga has come to an end. After several days of negotiations, Lille and Arsenal have come to an agreement over the amount and conditions of the transfer for the Ivorian striker. The English will pay twelve million euros, bonuses included, for a player with a year left on his contract. Gervinho who underwent a medical on wednesday, has been signed for four years. He will be officially unveiled on monday.

  128. Gulp. France are looking worryingly good. They win on the skill stakes. They are pressing us high up the pitch and making lightning fast counterattacks, but we are definitely holding our own.

    ***
    @ Limestonegunner
I do give them credit for flagging that up, it is sickening that Man City can just get basically given hundreds of millions because of family connections. However, without knowing the details of the sponsorship deals already in place – there may be penalty clauses, liability for damages for breach of contract – it’s hard to know what is the best thing to do. We may just have to grin and bear it. Regarding new deals, the visit to Asia could end up being massively important if it increases our fan base. Trophies would help as well, but that’s not entirely within our control, of course.

  129. G69:

I will not try to argue with you about the talent of individual players. However, the most talented group of players do not always make the best team. A look at the PL tables for the last several years would prove that beyond any doubt. Assuming for a second that we do have the most talented team then there there must be something wrong with our management or our team chemistry is somehow wrong. Isn’t it possible that adding players who are not necessarily the most talented but would add something different to the squad might help change the chemistry issues. We get emotionally attached to our players but something has to change. I certainly do not advocate blowing up the squad or getting rid of any of our top 15 or 16 players but based on last years performances giving up Rosicky or Denilson or Squillaci certainly will not hurt the squad and may be adding someone like Parker or Cahill could help.

  130. Touch a nerve the Gainsy,,
I dont recall mentioning any of those names you posted from our team. I believe there is some dead wood but I have never mentioned who I may think it is, no point. Wenger can deal with that. I was talking about your pigheaded angst towards any player mentioned that may strengthen us. Many do believe that all three of those players ( Parked, Cahill, Samba) could help make us stronger, just because you refuse to believe it does not make them shit players. Perhaps in your bitter little head it seems justified but not to the outside world.

  131. how cool is it that we got a realy good womens team in addition to mens team. We even got the women captain!
So im 6 years time if Wilshere ever becomes captain our club will have both senior footy captains 🙂

  132. Gainsbourg69

Scott parker was an awesome player at Charlton. After he went to Chelsea he hasn’t been able to reproduce the excellent form he had back then. He’s also thirty years old and is on the decline. He’s slower and more injury prone as well. Dead wood.

  133. Gainsbourg69

Those are the players who are always touted as being dead wood.

  134. Gainsbourg69

Please give details about how these players would strengthen us. I would love to know how they wouldn’t be dead wood.

  135. Bill:

There’s no need to sell Squillaci. He’s an above average CB not bothered with sitting on the bench. I don’t see the sense in replacing after one year with…say…Cahill, whose early career ambitions will mean he complains more about being dropped.

How’s that supposed to help team “Chemistry”?

  136. Limestone:

Good to see you back. Hope you are here for the duration.

  137. I have neither the time nor interest in humoring you with details on how I think these player will strengthen us, I dont necessarily think all of them would. But I also dont see how they could make us any worse. None would be starters till they proved themselves any ways. There are much better player for the positions we need covering than Samba, Cahill and Parker. But I wouldnt be upset if we did sign any of them either.

  138. @ poodle | July 9, 2011 at 6:04 pm

Yeah! Except that Faye is nearing the end of her career so it’s unlikely that she’ll still be England captain when/if Jack is in the frame.
It is so much more enjoyable to watch the national team when a) they are not stuffed with arrogant pricks who are in the team on reputation only and b) there are lots of Arsenal players involved.

  139. Yes, England 1-0!

  140. @Bill
IF we asses the situation properly we will see that with Cescs hamstring problem if we rest him enough and rotate him enough and get a decent 25 games out of him wich could include all important CL games and all important cup and leage games. We would still need someone to”fill” in for him so he can rest his dodgey hamstring as if it is this bad alrady you got to ask if it can really last for an entire season. So the question is, is it worth 35M to have him for those 25 games? will he be the one that tips the scale in those important games? In Barca he will not have to worry so much cos he will play less and will have plenty of time to rest.
Maybe its wort keeping him for one more year to “squeese” the max out of him for so to sell him next summer. Surly his hamstrings cant take two more years of intensive PL action.

    @JamesM
You say AW has promised you to be active in the transfare market yet has not singed anyone yet but a 19 year old. I do not know if you know this but the transafare window does not shut until end of August.
ALOT and i mean ALOT of our transfare action will be based upon if we qualify for CL or not. Those two matches will decide who goes and who stays. What kind of players we can get in etc etc. Dont expect major things to happen until after that.

Regarding Gibbs, its my belife(and i also think its AWs) that the England left back position with be fought out between Gibbs and Baines after Cole leaves. I think Gibbs wil win that match. When you sit with a future England back on your hands you cannot not play him. You either sell him and buy a new solid 24 year old or you play him to make him better. If Clichy had stayed Gibbs would have pushed him all the way next year. We probably do need a new left back to cover for Gibbs and i got no idea who that would be but im sure AW does.

My point is, you and other fans have to chill as players that are on our wish list wants to know wheter they are joining a CL club or not. They wont kow this until after we have had our qualification matches.

oh and how cool would it be if the Women won the WC? kickass they are! 🙂

  141. Gainsbourg69

Bill, what do Parker and Cahill bring to the table? Please elaborate on your thoughts. Getting rid of one set of players for another set of players needs more explanation than “it wouldn’t hurt.” So please, make your argument and state your position.

Personally, I think Cahill is not a good defender. He’s not that good in the air and his movement is suspect. If we only got him to play against the hoofballers, he’d be a waste of money. He wouldn’t be a like for like replacement for Djourou’s height and god knows he doesn’t even come close to either Vermaelen or Koscielny. Squillaci can at least step in for Koscielny or Vermaelen and do a decent job. If we’re going to go for a tall defender with EPL experience I’d rather we went for Hangeland.

Parker is on the decline. He was a very good player under Curbishley but he has failed to reproduce that type of form ever since. If we’re going to go for a midfield organizer I think Arteta is about the only player who comes close to being up to Arsenal’s standard. Other than him we’d have to look outise of the league to fill that position. Nevermind the fact that we have Wilshere, Ramsey and Diaby, who are better than Parker, just sitting there waiting for their chance.

  142. Sixtay @ 6:08:

You can say the same about any player on the squad. How in the world do you know Cahill would be dropped? I will not try to argue that he is a better player then our other CB but he would certainly add something different when compared to our other CB and perhaps it could help us defend better especially against set pieces. Gallas, Toure, Sagna, Clichy and Song are all excellent individual players but they were not good enough as a unit. Same after we swapped Toure for TV5.

I know how important it is to defend each of our players from the hoards of doomers and trolls but clearly the best technical and individual players do not always make the best team. How many of us would rate Park, Flecther, Anderson, Carrick, Rapheal, etc etc etc above any of our players as individuals yet their team consistently outscore and out defend us and end up above us in the table. Again not advocating throwing out the baby with the bath water but some new and different types of players might make a a real difference in the teams. Some players have to go to bring in new players.

  143. oh and i see “all” the top clubs are after Parker, thats how good a player he is. Last i heard he was gonna sign for Villa :p

  144. And am I the only one who remembers rosicky deputizing brilliantly for Cesc earlier in the season? Up until the point where he missed the penalty against Sunderland, his performances we pretty much on par with Nasri (well, at least not noticably weaker).

    Cue,

    Cesc’s return,
Wenger’s insistence on making wholesome changes to the first team (resting btw 7~8 players) for weaker opposition, making it obvious to the second stringers who he rated and who he didn’t
    Another 6 week injury

And you can understand why TR7 had a forgettable year. Fingers crossed he owns this preseason in the absence of Cesc.

  145. lol fungunner i did not think about that 😀

  146. guys how do you rate Bartely? I mean, with bart, kos and squill in addition to verm and djorou? AW must sell squill to fit in samba or cahill or anyone els right?

  147. Gainsbourg69

Your rebuttal is just as weak as Bill’s. Saying it wouldn’t hurt is bullshit, especially when these players would be bought with money that’s not yours.

  148. G69:

I use Parker as an example since he was mentioned what he brings to the table is energy and drive. Cahill brings height and strength that we do not have. As for their quality as players your opinion is just that. I am certainly not the right person to criticize someone else for being dogmatic, nonetheless, you are certainly very dogmatic in your opinions. You can argue endlessly that the squad just has to mature and we should just keep everyone together but you have been making that statement for several years now. Again I am not asking to blow up the entire squad but some changes do have to be made, if only for the sake of team mentality. Every interview we have seen with the players says the same thing. They are all hoping for some significant new additions to the squad and we have to move out some players to bring in new ones.

  149. Gainsbourg69

Bill stop it with your nonsense. No one is defending our players because we feel a sense of loyalty to them. I am defending our players because the shit that’s being mentioned as replacements are not better than what we have. We have one of the best and youngest squads in the league. Why would we conscioulsy weaken it by bringing in players that no other top manager wants. I mean, if Cahill is so amazing, why did Ferguson buy Smalling and Jones? Why is Dalglish, a manager with plenty of money now, not interested in Cahill when it’s clear he needs an upgrade in that position? Why did Chelsea purchase David Luiz when they could’ve had a ready made replacement from England?

  150. @ Bill

How many of us would rate Park, Flecther, Anderson, Carrick, Rapheal, etc etc etc above any of our players as individuals yet their team consistently outscore and out defend us and end up above us in the table.

Considering Park and Anderson are both VERY GOOD PLAYERS. That wouldn’t be difficult. Alas, you do make a fine point. Technical ability must be tapered with physical and mental prowess to make the team gel.

And Man U scored a lot of goals on the counter, a style of play we gave up on due to our lack of proper on-the-ball runners in the team.

Guess who we bought this window.

    Perspective

  151. Are you serious bill? Cahill is barely taller than Squill or Kos, and he is shorter than Djourou. Unless we plan on having a centre back partnership of Cahill and Djourou (which seems ridiculous in writing and would be probably even worse in reality.) he wouldn’t exactly be bringing height to the squad. Only thing he would give us is English gr*t, and for the low, low price of 20 mil. What a steal!

  152. @Evil:

Actually, he’s got a Minimum Fee Release Clause of 17 Million GBP.

  153. Gainsbourg69

Bill, Parker brings less and less energy and drive every season. He’s older and more injury prone now than last season. Cahill may have strength and height but so do Scott Dann and Richard Dunne. It doesn’t make them good players, now, does it?

The rest of your argument is speculative. How do you know the players are looking for big signings? What does making changes guarantee?

  154. Limestonegunner

Bill, nice to be back. I’ll pop in and out over the summer–there hasn’t been much to discuss so far this close season. All I can say is that this is a really crucial summer for the club so I am praying we arrive to the very difficult start of our campaign with a better (perhaps reinforced) team than last season– more united in purpose and physically, tactically and mentally/emotionally prepared– with strong support from fans, because we will need every advantage we can get. Trusting that being a year older will be enough or that we can afford to lose some of our best players and still maintain our CL spot strikes me as overconfidence. I doubt AW suffers from that, but whether he can manage to improve us for next season on the limited resources he typically relies upon is a big question this summer. It will be an amazing achievement if he does. Acquiring Gervinho would be a nice start since he looks a player.

  155. Gainsbourg69

Bill, with regards to Park, Fletcher and co., all I’ve got to say is look at how they did against Barca in the CL final. We also beat them this season with a midfield duo consisting of two youngsters. Apart from the fact that we only play them a minimum of two times a year I don’t see how a head to head comparison makes your point for you.

  156. @Sixtay
My fault, papers I read quoted € prices. But be it 20 mil € or 17 mil £, that would be simply crazy money. Cahill’s contract is up next year as well. There is simply no logical basis to go for Cahill for that price, as long as there are players like Hangeland and Jagielka.

  157. I want Bendtner to stay

  158. well i dont think Arsenal would look like a fun team to watch if we had park and fletcher in the middle. United is a very efficient team but fukin boring to watch.
Cahill is a decent defender but hes NOT a 17M defender. Hes not even a England regular and soon Jones and Smalling will leap frog him to those positions wich means we will be stuck with a non england player defender that cost us 17M. thats not really worth it is it? Jones will become ALOT better than Cahill so will Smalling. there is a reason both we and United were afte those two and not Cahill imo.
Its a deep shame we did not get any of those two. now we may have to do with cahill wich is a step down.

  159. G69 @ 6:37: “Bill stop it with your nonsense. No one is defending our players because we feel a sense of loyalty to them.”

YEAH RIGHT. LOL. Nothing wrong with loyalty just clouds debate about players. You can not be a good fan if you don’t defend all of our existing players at all times. Just ask Frank or Nasir.

However I do have to give you the point that Dalgish is not going after Cahill or Parker. Fergie bought Smalling and Jones because of future potential. He already had the most effective defense in the league and did not need someone ready made. Luiz struggled at the end of last year but his physical talents as a CB are equal to anyone in the world. I would rather us get Hangeland but I still think Cahill would help the team because he does add a different type of player to our mix. I would rather see us get Inler or someone like Feliani (?sp) then Parker but I still believe Parker could if they are not available then Parker would certainly add something add an energy player to the team that we don’t really have at this point.

None of us including Wenger really know what will finally make this squad gel. If he knew he would have done it already. Sometimes change just for the sake of change can make a huge difference and again I don’t advocate moving any of the players that we all think will be regular players in our rotation but we need to do something.

  160. @ poodle
Bartley hasn’t gone on the Asia Tour, so that probably means he will go on loan again, perhaps back to Rangers. Carl Jenkinson. He’s the one to watch. He has gone on the tour and Walcott thinks he is class. He is also v tall so he might go straight into the first team and we wouldn’t have to sell Squillers.

    @ Bill
The point is that there are better players with the qualities you mention. If we want to go that way, we can do better. Wenger (and Ferguson) must have thought all of Smalling, Jones and Jenkinson were better. Not to mention their youth makes them more attractive.

  161. Bollocks. France equalise. 3 mins to go. Aaaaaaaargh. I am about 20 mins behind becuase I paused it while I was baking.

  162. george rodger

“Cahill is a decent defender but hes NOT a 17M defender”

That is just about it Poodle.

Bill does make one very good point

” am not asking to blow up the entire squad but some changes do have to be made, if only for the sake of team mentality.”

The end of season debacle means that a certain amount of surgery is needed, whether it is needed or not(I know that makes no sense except to me 🙂 )

  163. Poodle @ 7:00:

I don’t necessarily disagree with what you say. If there is no one good enough that has already been linked with us then we need to bite the bullet and spend the money to get someone good enough. I don’t advocate spending ourselves into oblivian but sitting on a huge pile of 5 pound notes will not help us win anything. We have enough money that we could buy a couple of really good players without any long term financial risk. We don’t need to completely rebuild the squad the way Man City did. We are starting with lots of good players. I agree completely with you sentiment that there have been lots of good players that we potentially could have gotten in the past and it is silly to think that all the good players in the world who could help us are gone. If we have to overpay someone good then so be it.

  164. Bill : “Sometimes change just for the sake of change can make a huge difference”

    ???

    That makes little sense.

  165. Limestonegunner

What are you making, FG? Cake, pie, cookies, bread? Do tell a hungry fellow Arsenal supporter (at least until I disagree with a regular on the blog!).

  166. george rodger

Sixtay ,I think Bill knows that ,as do I .But sense it does make, to me and probably Bill

  167. Well bill i think we just have to wait until after the CL qual. I Dont think the window really starts for us until after that is over.

  168. Extra time. Kelly Smith, Karen Carney and Faye White all walking wounded. Pray for us!

    @ george rodger
Yes – but the point was that we can do better if we buy someone of that type.

    @ bill
“If there is no one good enough that has already been linked with us then we need to bite the bullet and spend the money to get someone good enough.”
That’s the point, though – as AW said, everyone’s after the same players. We may not be able to get who we want. That’s just a fact of life. this transfer business is really not as simple as you like to make out.

    @ Limestonegunner
Muffins. I had some eggs I needed to use up and I don’t like omelettes, so I made a monster batch of corn muffins.

  169. Sixtay

No i remember Rosicky being absolutely shite in the Carling cup final.

    Bill

You you read 90% of the posts on here you would believe we dont need to sign anyone and our squad is good enough to win the title. The reason we need to sign a Cahill or a Samba is they are no no nonsense CB’s who take no prisoners like Vidic.Unlike softies like Djourou and Kos

  170. Do we know in what positions AW is looking to buy?

  171. Limestonegunner

Poodle, that would be a shame since we have to try to win that game and need players, especially new ones, to start training with our team so that we can hit the ground running. We have a very difficult start of our season with tough, tough games. If we can’t get them in before the CL qualifier, what does that say about us and them? Is Bayern having difficulty recruiting before the outcome of their CL qualifier? I certainly hope the fates of Cesc and Nasri are definitively decided well before then and that we bring in the players we want before the league season starts, especially if they are coming from a different league and will already have to adapt to that in addition to a new team.

  172. Sixtay

In 2001 Wenger bought 7 players only one was a success Sol Campbell but the signings refreshed the squad and we won the double

    Change does work

  173. skywatchingmug

    @Gainsbourg69,
Parker won his third consecutive Hammer of the Year award and was voted writers player of the year last season. And yes he did have injury start to his West Ham career but his appearances stats have risen every seasons since. 40 starts last season for a box to box midfielder is not bad. And having seen him play over the last couple of seasons I would have to disagree with you on his energy levels dropping, if anything he has been accused by some hammers of having to much energy and was trying to do much all over the park last season.
I do not think Arsenal would buy him or should by him.
    But deadwood he is not.

  174. george rodger

“Unlike softies like Djourou and Kos”
Ted .Stupid is as stupid writes.
    Softies? Get stuffed you plank

  175. Limestonegunner

Corn muffins, nice. A lot like cornbread, served hot with butter, mmm!

  176. Oooh, ellen white so close

  177. george rodger

Parker never was ,is not and never will be as good as Thomas Rosicky. So if we(by we I mean stupid cunts)are calling Thomas “deadwood” then Parker most certainly is.

  178. Kelly Smith is my hero

  179. @fun…. England will win. having hung on so far…. pens will favour the brave and from the bbc write up; thats england

  180. skywatchingmug

George rodger, what are you on about. On second thoughts, I don’t want to know.

  181. @lime it says that the top, top, top, top players we need that can actually BRING us further, lift us one step up require cl football. I am ofcourse talking about the creme de la creme of European football. The Matas and the Benzemas of the world. The players that are already stars in their own right. Gervinoh will become a star im conviced about that, i think he is on the level of Nasri and Chamakh. And he will develop more.
Mata and Benzema may bee seen as bigger cathes. or Lucio if you talk about defenders. They dont want to have 99% chance of playing CL. they want to know they play CL before they commit.

Also our budget depends on CL play we earn alot is it 40M with group play. something we wont have if we dont get in. So economically we can buy more expensive if we qualify.

Like it or not CL is everything when it comes to top top top top quality. Cahill would probably join us regardless of us being in CL or not but Mata would not.

  182. Oh no, Mattyboy – are you ahead of me? on my recording it’s still 1-1.

  183. Gooner Ted

‘In 2001 Wenger bought 7 players only one was a success Sol Campbell but the signings refreshed the squad and we won the double

    Change does work’

Only you could come up with such a misleading and stupidly thought out statement as that.

  184. @ fun. check the bbc life text

  185. FG – sorry, I didn’t see your post earlier about being 20 mins behind until just now. A cruel manner in which to lose…

  186. GoonerTed @ 7:29:

Best point of the debate IMO.

  187. Oh dear. I suppose that means we lost on penalties?

  188. kos the softie 😛

  189. Awesome penalty by Kelly Smith, though. Was that when you said she was yur heroine?

  190. hope you are well team spirit. and no hard feeling regarding yesterday.. i misunderstood your post…
@ FG,, as matt says, cruel way to lose… 😦

  191. If you read Gooner Ted’s posts, you’d think he was a spud or just a really thick cunt.

    SkywatchingMug

We aint back to bigging up parker are we? He was the best hammer? Thats great news, like winning the eunuch of the year trophy! 😀

He is a decent player, mind, just not brilliant, although Ray Parlour thinks we should sign him. Then again he thinks we should sign Defoe too!

  192. Bill –

    ‘GoonerTed @ 7:29:

Best point of the debate IMO’.

Hahaha, I stand corrected. Never underestimate the stupidity of people who are too lazy to think for themselves is the lesson for me there then.

  193. i hate having a game decided on penalties. best way is to add 15min and if still not decided, another 15.

  194. FG – ‘Awesome penalty by Kelly Smith, though. Was that when you said she was yur heroine’?

Yes, a moment that really stirred the emotions, especially knowing what she had been through during the game. More of a role model than most of the England Mens team put together.

  195. Oh, God. that is horrible. The first three pens were superb. We did ourselves proud though. Not just saying that, they really did. You’d have to say the better side won, but after all that effort and courage it would have been a just reward for us to get through.

  196. Bill You really are quite messed up, if you think that is a good point, never mind the best. I havenet read the posts, so unless everyone else on here has had a frontal labotomy.

WE should sign 7 players, have 6 that fail, but nevermind because it will “refresh” the squad? How about we just hose them down?

Baffling conept, yet not surprised you think it’s great. All you do is moan and bitch, but do it in such a half arsed benign way, which is more infuriating that the full on doomers.

I would rather we sing 3 new players and have them ALL be fucking successful.

  197. george rodger

Where have you been Dexter .I have been worried,Sent out two scouts to find you.Now they are MIA.

Lol ,yes Ray think he would be a replacement for Cesc.
Dear me ,as Frank likes to say.

  198. Mattyboy

You beat me to it man.

  199. Geroge mate. Just been out on the town, no need to worry! But thanks for the concern! 😀

  200. skywatchingmug

    @Gainsbourg69
I was not bigging up Parker, as you would put it. Just putting some facts and opinions on the debating table. 🙂

  201. george rodger

Dex.We will sing after we sign 🙂

  202. So, Almunia and bendtner are staying to sort out their moves then. I am sure i read somewhere that Almunia had signed a new deal to stay as 3rd choice? Yet another load of twaddle then. Surprise surprise.

  203. Dexter@ 8:07:

You purposefully misinterpret what is said to make your point. Of course no one wants our signings to fail. No one said we should sign 7 players. Clearly we would all rather have 3 successful players added rather then 6 unsuccessful.

You know as well as I that the point is that sometimes signings by themselves help the squads mentality especially when we have already seen the loss of one of our starting 11 and quite possibly another that we clearly not want to lose. The players in this squad have been begging for signings every bit as much as the fans.

  204. george rodger

We were having a nice chat until Dexter came along with he obtuseness 🙂

  205. So, not only does Gooner Ted misrepresent facts (we didn’t sign 7 players in 2001, and out of those we signed, Sol Campbell wasn’t the only one who was useful. I remember us signing this lad, Kolo Toure, back then, as well as Gio v. Bronckhorst), but the things he has said make no sense whatsoever. In 2006/2007 we signed 8 players and did we win anything? Though it would be utterly stupid to use that as an argument to say that change does not have any effects but it seems that some of the simpletons that comment on here can only see in black and white.

  206. ALOT and i mean ALOT of our transfare action will be based upon if we qualify for CL or not. Those two matches will decide who goes and who stays.

It will be too late by then as any decent player will already have been signed. Our last-minute signings in recent years have been Gallas, Diarra, Silvestre and Squillaci. They’ve worked out well haven’t they?!

Also, we need players to come in and ensure that we actually win the CL qualifier. Lose Cesc and Nasri and it becomes a lot harder…

  207. There is trouble in gunner land. This is not good. No activety means Wenger and the management are standing pat. This is not good. Too many holes to fill- keeper is an eye sore. We need defenders. Our defense was sieve like. Not good garoto. I still think it is time to bring in another skipper. Wenger has reached the end of his rope. You may not like it but in America if a skipper has great talent and can’t bring home the bacon he is gone. I have written about this since March of this year on my defutebol.net

  208. Evil

I could argue that you are the one that can only see in black and white. The truth is that we all see black and white if it helps to make the point. We also see the shades of gray if it helps to make the point.

IMO the specifics of what happened in 2001 are completely unimportant to what is happening today. The statement abpit 2001 only makes a point. I think that there needs to be more changes made to this squad then there has been for the last several years. Ivan indicated as much in the AST meeting. We can argue about what specific changes for the next 10 years and never agree. So far the loss of Clichy and addition of Gervinho do not meet that goal IMO.

I think things should have been done sooner but i would be happy if we see at least another central defender or 2 and hopefully a DM whenever they come before the end of August. Another attacking player especially if Nasri leaves would also be nice but that may be to much to ask for.

  209. george rodger

“I have written about this since March of this year on my defutebol.net”

I just bet you have ! Day after day after fucking day zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  210. So last year we signed two centre back’s and an attacking player. This season, so far, we have signed an attacking player and you want us to sign another one plus two defenders. What are you going to ask for next season? 2 defenders and an attacking player? How do you ever think we are supposed to settle the defence and get a partnership working if we are supposed to buy defenders season in, season out?
When ManU bought Vidic, they conceded 27 goals that season … the 2 seasons after that, they conceded less goals. Same with Chelsea, Alex needed a season to settle in.
Look at Manchester City. They bought Kompany in 2008 and conceded 50 goals, they bought Toure and Lescott in 2009 and conceded 45 goals. This season, after all three have settled in they were the team to concede the fewest goals in the league.

Sometimes I really wonder what kind of glasses you are wearing that allow you to deny reality in the way you do. We had a completely new defensive partnership this season, so obviously we shipped more goals. Next season, even if we don’t buy even a single defender, I can almost guarantee you we are going to ship fewer goals (unless everyone gets injured at the same time and we have to play two out of three Gervinho’s in the centre), simply because that’s the way football works. Defenders have to get used to each other, new partnerships need time to settle and with new defenders it’s almost always the case that you are seeing the benefit in the second season.

But obviously you can try and disprove me. Show me teams that had a completely new defensive partnership for the majority of a season on the top level and managed to ship fewer goals compared to a previous settled and proven partnership. But as far as I know you, you are not going to do that, because your arguments are never based on facts or reality, for that matter.

  211. That was a classy touch from Alves to help set up Paraguay’s second goal.

  212. Nasir Jones-Nasri

And who exactly is Scott Parker replacing in midfield? Cesc? Don’t make me spit out my falafel. Little Jack? Highly doubtful? Alex Song? Never in a million years. Ramsey? That’s laughable. Diaby? No chance. Parker isn’t anywhere near Diaby’s class. Denilson? No thank you, and who’s to say Scottie Parker would accept being Arsenal’s 6th choice midfielder? Come on guys, think things through a bit before you just go around reposting hackery.

  213. No Bill m y friend, I didnt purposely misinterpet that post. It was clear what Ted said; He wants us to sign a shit load of players to refresh the squad, and even if all bar one actually succeeds then so what? What have we lost? Only millions of £££s! What did you think he meant?

    Evil

I really liked van Bronkhorst, was well chuffed when we signed him.

    JamesM

I would be surprised if players felt they wouldnt sign for us till we had played those 2 CL qualifiers TBH. We have qualified every time we’ve had to, can’t see that stopping em from signing man.

  214. geeman

You are truly crackers man. But you can get great drugs over the counter (or under it) in the states can’t you.

  215. Baaaa

  216. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Nice post, Evil. These people give our mananger absolutely zero credit. They just want, want, want. Change for the sake of change. Not for the sake of improving, because the players being bandied about are NOT an improvement. Give me Djourou over Cahill and Samba any day. You know we’re fucked when we start signing average to decent defenders players from Bolton and Blackburn. Those guys would scare the shit out of Gunners in the CL. Some just hate Wenger and our style and want philisopical changes. People like Bill and Gooner Ted have absolutely zero respect for what we stand for as a club. Bill knows absolutely fuck all about the beautiful game, and has stated his love for boring Mourinhoesque football many times. He’s either a dull fucking dinosaur, or a jealous Manc or Chav on a wind up. It’s a tough call.

  217. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Eat shit, kudos. Go back under the bridge where you came from.

  218. Bill ~~ I never really bothered taking a lot of notice of your comments anyway but after seeing your post about gooner ted I just had to laugh. You have lost any marbles you had left with that.

  219. Kudos ~~ is Harry going to PSG then?

  220. Bill is earnestly boring and repetitious. But that doesn’t make his thoughts any less foolish and ill-considered. No wonder he was so quick to second Gooner Ted’s stupid doom-mongering. Thanks Evil and Dexter for sorting him out.

“Change for change sake.” What utter rot.

  221. Kudos ~~ I believe you, 1000s wouldn’t. As for your last sentence, I could not make any sense of it.

  222. So according to Wenger we will be promoting Gibbs to our first choice left back! great bit of money saving business there as 1. he still isnt ready 2. what happens during the months he missed due to injury…. are we really that tight that we cant go out and get Enriuque or even a cissokho. beggers belief that Wenger will not replace Clichy. fukin one step forward in signing(nearly soon ) Gervinho then a step back in having a weakened position at the back. tut tut.

  223. Even worse then that. After Denilsons comments that ego maniac has taken him on the pre season tour.
Lets not sign Mata it might hold back Rosickys career. Even tho 3 years have been in the treatment room.

  224. It’s a tough call, DG. A year ago you loads of people wanted Gibbs to replace Clichy, and he was about to get called up into the the England team (ahead of everyone’s hero, Leyton Baines). At 21, it’s time he started playing regularly. It’s a gamble, given his injury record, but there is sense to it.

For one, rumours are that 6+5 is a genuine possibility in the near future, which might explain why we’re putting our faith in an English prospect.

  225. george rodger

This is the worst blog on the net.
He probably does not understand the comments.
However we have learned that your opinion does not count unless you have attended an away match.
    Priceless..

  226. You do know that name calling other people is the easiest way to get banned on here, Kudos?

  227. Kudos ~~ If you do not like this blog you know what to do. I am sure we will not miss your foul abusive rubbish.

  228. @ Kudos – Funny for a Spud you would imagine that considering you think AW is totally past it and has lost the plot, you would want him to stay on as Arsenal’s manager. Just goes to show that Spud fans are indeed retarded inbred c**ts!! Thank you for finally admitting what all Arsenal fans have always known.

  229. Funny that, speculating that George might be watching Sky Sports News, considering how much your opinion seems to be in line with the usual media drivel.

  230. Spouting rubbish?
All your comments are rubbish. Tv5 will be like a new signing. Rosicky better than player of the year Scott Parker. Gimme a break.
Diaby is a class player. 6.5% does that affect your sky sports subscription? No I thought not.
6th at best next season. Oh and I bet none of you days have been yids away or the old roker park. Queers!

  231. george rodger

kudos.I bet you shave your head and talk like Ray Winston with a lisp

  232. @irishgay you thick cunt I never said I want wenger to stay.I hate the cunt and what he’s done to my club. Hoho another Overseas supporter.
Stick to ya all Eire Gaelic shit!

  233. george rodger

Look ,He thinks Parker is better than Rosicky.Enough said.
On a positive note he thinks I am the biggest cunt,Promotion for me that is.

  234. Do you sound like worzel gummidge George?

  235. george rodger

kudos said” hate the cunt and what he’s done to my club.”
What would that “done ” be halfwit?
    The doubles?
    49 games unbeaten?
Made us a top European Club?
    Unbeaten season?
15 consecutive years in the CL?

    Please tell us .

  236. Dexter @ 9:41:

Thats not how I interpretted that statement. See what I said at 9:10.

    Evil:

    1) The boss himself identified our inability to manage the typical Enlish game and we have done nothing to improve that as of yet.
    2) If continuity is that important why sign Sol Campbell last year at Christmas when we knew that Gallas and Silvestre and Sol were all short term. Would we have been better this season if we had signed a long term solution then and they would have been ready bedded in by the start of last season. Continuity has never been a major issue for us in the back in past years.
    3) No one is suggesting that we get rid of any of the 3 of Kos, TV5 or JD. For the last 3 years we have assumed that somehow next year will be better when in fact its been worse. If we add a player or even 2 it does not break up the 3 main players we have but it adds better cover in case for the inevitable injuries and for rotation. If we do nothing in this transfer window and our defending does not improve we are in trouble again and left with no options and no way to fix it. We get to watch another season pass by. I said this the other day. Why not do the safe thing and hope for the best but cover ourselves in case of the worst scenario.

  237. Seems Kudos has been on the wine gums.

  238. Note to self: DNFTT

  239. ” made us a top European club ” lol.
won’t spend any money. Although yours is only your sky sports subscription .
    obsession with project youth.
    Best squad ever last season.
Denilson. And Bendtner. And eboue the clown on 59k per week.
pictures and quotes of himself all around stadium.
settle for 2nd ” I’ll sign up for 20 years”.
Worst defensive set piece record in the premier League.
    Need I go on.

  240. according to Youngguns: “Levante say they have reached an agreement with Arsenal to buy Wellington Silva.”

  241. george rodger

Dont laugh Dups. He has been to Roker Park you know. That qualifies him for football Mensa. He has probably thrown a chair in anger as well.

  242. @ Kudos – I can’t believe I am saying this but you are actually giving James and his pals a bad name with your stupid ranting. Does your mother know you are up late using her computer? What happened? Did you wet the bed again and are simply waiting for it to dry out, so you can sneak back in and pretend to mommy in the morning that you didn’t wet the bed? “See Mommy, I AM ready for Big Boy pants!!!!” What a maroon!!!

  243. George ~~ all these idiots seem to quote players wages. They have no idea what any player gets just read it in the media or the grave.

  244. george rodger

You fuck wit.Do you think Arsene went round nailing up his own photo’s and scrawling graffiti under it?

Have you seen Eboue;s wage slip?

    Need I go on?

    You are an ignorant plebeian.

  245. @irishgay come to the ‘WHITE HOUSE’ pub clissold park next season. I will show you a mommy’s boy. The famine is over irishgay!!
George I bet you don’t have a season. Ticket live in London. Or the suburbs. Or ever attend matches do you.

  246. george rodger

Dups,He aspires to be an idiot

  247. George go wank your cat off over a picture of arsene!

  248. george rodger

Kudos. You are wrong and would lose you bet.

  249. George, aspires? Surely he has already reached that pinnacle.

  250. 1) Defensive organisation is the key, and for that, you need a settled defence. You can’t expect players that haven’t played with each other to just click.
    2) How many teams do you suspect are interested in letting their defenders go in the middle of the season? If you want to buy a player in the January transfer window, that in itself carries an extra premium. And didn’t we try, but just couldn’t get a deal done?
Btw. did we know at that point that Gallas wasn’t going to sign another contract?
And continuity might not have been the issue because we bought cleverly. When we got Campbell he already had played with Adams(and Seaman) quite a few times in the national squad so they knew each other. And anyway, even with players like Sol and Adams, we still did concede more than 35, even more than 40 goals at times.
    3) So you believe that Kos, Djourou and TV5 are our three main defenders and whoever we bring in would be challenging Squillachi for the 4th spot? Well, on that we can agree. I am with you when it comes to adding one defender with a more limited skill set that can be used to close out tight games against brutish opposition. That’s why I am usually advocating that if we are to buy, we should get Hangeland. Most headed clearances in the league, exactly the right thing when teams start to just pump it into the box when we leading by a goal in the last 20 minutes or so.
Just not sure why you’d want to buy two cb’s, unless one of our current ones leaves.

  251. Just resorting to personal insults proves how mentally deficient he is.

  252. george rodger

I have drawn a metaphorical line under him now.

What were the grown ups discussing prior to the halfwit appearing?

  253. See you at the emirates cup. I will be protesting. And I hope we come 10th this season. The the ego maniac will be sacked and fuck off back to France.

  254. @ kudos – I take it that is where your Daddy drinks huh? What is it then? He lets you hang out for a bit before Mommy comes and collects you for bed time. Sad really. But it must be nice to be taken places. Have you been to the zoo recently? Cos Grandma and Grandpa are feeling a bit left out. I mean just because you are a retarded inbred idiot doesn’t mean they do not want you to visit.

  255. Irish, Grandma & Grandpa are probably the star attractions at the zoo.

  256. Maybe Grandma & Grandpa are the same person

  257. george rodger

Evil, Hangeland would be the better option ,I agree. But it does mean altering the team set up when he is brought on when we are in front, and that is quite often

  258. I think they where brother and sister

  259. Wenger being an ego maniac? You’re having a laugh, right?
if he were one, he would’ve gone to Real Madrid when they came looking for him a couple of seasons ago.
If he were one, he would’ve spent all the money he has to be able to win the Champions’ League so he can get that last trophy that’s missing from his personal trophy cabinet.

But no, he didn’t do those things. He accepted that he would’ve to live with limited means and put all those things behind so he can help us stay competitive while consolidating the finances of our club at the same time.

With a different manager, with a different team in the background doing the financial stuff, the thing that happened to Liverpool, that could’ve easily been us.

  260. How can a real Arsenal fan want their team to finish 10th?

  261. Haha and you just said ” resorting to personal insults proves how mentally deficient he is”
And then your 11:30 & 11:31 comments haha ohhh the irony.
Irishgay come down there. 🙂 please

  262. Well said Evil 🙂

  263. dupsff;

Its a loan deal for Wellington man.

Kudos, you fucking moron. What has attending games got to do with anything? I go home and away, does that make me a real fan then? You’re a complete and utter disgrace, fucking shameful and I’d be embarrassed if you actually were a Gooner. Its a good job you’re just a sad inadequate spud with fuck all else better to do.

  264. george rodger

See you at the Ems. Cup.I will not be protesting and will be cheering and happy.
How desperately sad are these people of limited intellect?

  265. Dexter ~~ Yea I just read that on YG blog. Thanks

  266. Reasons to be cheerful.

As soon as it came out we were linked with Gervinho. I was hoping everyday that we signed him and for Ryo, to be granted his work permit as I felt he was ready to dip his toes into the EPL. I got slaughtered for wishing on a nobody like Gervinho, and laughed at for saying Ryo, is ready to be used.

Seems like some just can’t handle the fact that somebody can have an opinion which may differ from yours and be right. Well fuck you very much because it’s looking like both of my wishes are coming through and for good of team too.

  267. Of course he will be protesting as Spud fans are not allowed in!!

  268. @Dexter. Calm down lovey take your medication.
” what has attending genes got to do with anything ” fuck me that sums you mugs up on here.
    armchair Fans says it all.
George the emirates cup will that be your yearly trip to watch us play live?

  269. george rodger

Dexter .He has been very rude to me .Its almost like a verbal joust with Oscar Wilde. What chance do I have ?
    Its not fair 😦

  270. Dupsff; Haha! I read it that you thought he was being sold mate, sorry!

  271. Goonerton

Well done dude, you’ve won random post of the day! 😀

  272. Surely must be a sad summer to be a Sp*d. Got one season of CL glory and now everyone is jumping ship. Modric will be off soon, Bale should follow. No wonder he has come here, it’s the only thing that makes life worthwhile anymore for Kudos.

  273. george rodger

    So again

    understanding football=attending matches

    Dear fucking me

  274. DukeG

I know Gobbs as our 1st choice LB is a risk, then again, I am still not sure we won’t sign another LB anyways. But it isnt a priority signing and we have time to see how Gibbs does in pre-season yet. I really hope the lad gets over his injury problems finally.

  275. Dexter ~~ You were correct I did get that impression from YG but he got some fellow to translate it from Spanish afterwards.

And the unmentionable is using a different name from his regular one.

  276. @Evil he could of gone to real Madrid, he’s lived with limited means. Give me a break he’s on 6m per year and Madrid would’ve sacked him for failing 2 years let alone 6. Utter bollocks.

  277. Once again Kudos shows us all how retarded he is as by his implication Arsenal only have at best Approx. 60,000 fans. I wonder if he has any idea how expensive tickets would be if it were not for those “fans” outside London and even further abroad who regularly buy Arsenal kit and memorabilia and when they can afford too, do indeed attend games, both home and away.

  278. kudos that didnt even make sense. But thats nothing new with you is it? If you are older than 13, you really are a sad case man. I go home and away so your little theory doesnt really cut any ice with me. Then again, I dont even think you go to games yourself.

  279. george rodger

As soon as people think we need a LB the price will rocket. He has had to say that.
e will either get a LB cheaper or Gibbs will be buzzing.Win win really. No?

  280. @Kudos
If he was an ego manic, he would do everything to win the Champion’s League. At Real he could’ve built the team he wants with their sheer unlimited funds that would allow him to do that. Don’t you think it pains him knowing that Fergie got two of them shiny CL trophies, Mourinho got a couple and even Benitez has got one? But despite all that, and despite how much he would want to win the highest crown in world football, he has decided to stay here, even if it meant that he would only have limited funds and limited possibilities.

  281. No George. Attending matches means commitment passion, loyalty, I never said it didn’t mean you don’t understand Football .
    try to keep up.

  282. @Kudos
Are you one of those that show their commitment by leaving 10 minutes early to ensure they are first in line for the tube?

  283. “I never said it didn’t mean you don’t understand Football .”

WOW!!! A triple negative!! Clever for a retarded inbred Spud 🙂

  284. Do you show your passion by groaning louder than everyone else in your block when one of our players gives the ball away?

  285. Do you show your loyalty by instantly turning on our players whenever they make a mistake and directing a foul mouthed rant at them?

  286. No evil I don’t need to use the tube.

  287. george rodger

    Can you read?
You have a carer dont you?

  288. Well, you should be committed for definite
And you have a passion for making a dick out of yourself
As for loyalty? I am sure the staff at the secure unit are pretty loyal.

  289. By that I take it he really means he can’t afford it. Besides it is not too far of a walk back to WHL

  290. george rodger

I like kudos.I would feed him and give him a home .I need a new pet .A dumb one is always most loyal

  291. Long walk from 7 sisters to WHL, but he would know that going to away games.

  292. I wonder does he have a collar?

  293. Irishgay are you confused? I know paddy’s are known to be thick but I support arsenal you keep referring to the spuds.
and wtf are you on about a triple negative ?
What a inbred probably From a family of 13 kids. Potato!

  294. You gotta hand it to the moron, must be a killer having to try and type with those special mittens on.

  295. You make a very good point Kudos. As an Irishman I should know a Spud when I meet one. Well guess what? I can and in fact I just did, you ‘Arry-loving-inbred-retarded-bedwetting idiot!!!!

  296. Paddy’s? a inbred?

  297. God your failed insults are getting a bit boring now tbh.
You’re not upsetting me nor insulting me, I find you all quite interesting . Kinda like care in the community people.
    Bless you all little AKb’s.

  298. @ George – If you do take him in I would advise you to house train him immediately. Going by his postings I would suggest you get an Arsenal jersey and put it at the bottom of a box, he will then crap and piss all over it as that is what he has been doing all night. Dumass Spud that he is.

  299. Definitely the moron from the grave.

  300. Which one though dpusff? Need to be a bit more specific there dude!

  301. I thought they were all the same person. Write the same shite stuff,

  302. There goes potato on about the spurs again. Thick Irish spurs fan in disguise. All he talks about is harry and tottenham.
    Yawn boreoff!

  303. At least James is good for a laugh and knows a little about football. This fool just hates Arsenal FC,

  304. IIf anyone dares to go against wenger on here they get called a spud, chav or a manc.

  305. @ Dups – I agree James at least has a sense of humor about it. This idiot is well, just an idiot. This guy reads like Iceman over at Le Groan. Not sure if that is the guy you are referring to.

  306. Yes, thats right genius. We all think the sun shine’s out of Wenger’s boney old arsehole. You got me, bang to rights. No fooling a footballing heavyweight like you. No siree bob.

  307. OK Kudos I will give you one chance, tell me who should take AW’s place as Arsenal manager and why?

  308. Bit of a shame Gervinho will not be on the Aisa tour would have like to watch him. Just have to suffer with AA and Theo then. Better than Bale?

  309. Fuck me, the daily Heil say we are going to hijuack the Stewart Downing deal. That is some fucked up shit.

  310. PPepeguardiola because he plays football the way everyone likes to watch but assembles the correct playing staff to do it. Unlike wenger playing cretins like eboue, chamackh,Denilson, Vela, schillachi, almunia, fabianski,Bendtner.

  311. It is the Heil Dex. They have linked us with loads of players. Never get it right.

  312. For real? Downing? How do they come up with that stuff? It’s like they have a roulette board with player’s names.

  313. Pep never assembled most of that team

  314. Laugh all you want Dex,I do think the sun shines…………………………..

Yhe thing is we are encouraging him.If he started up a conversation with any of us in real life we would nod our heads, roll our eyes and turn away.
I have never in my life wasted time talking to such a low life .And yet here I fucking am ,on a Saturday night,Wtf Where is Yogi when you need him?

  315. Maybe they mean we are going to hijack Downing and hold him for a ransom. (nearer the truth)

  316. Laugh all you want Dex,I do think the sun shines…………………………..

The thing is we are encouraging him.If he started up a conversation with any of us in real life we would nod our heads, roll our eyes and turn away.
I have never in my life wasted time talking to such a low life .And yet here I fucking am ,on a Saturday night,Wtf Where is Yogi when you need him?

  317. George, you make a very good point there. In the pub we would just tell him to go and copulate himself.

  318. He has been at the club for over 20 years as player, youth coach working his way up. He has been instrumental assembling that squad, playing style ethos etc. You’re wrong. He didn’t buy them all I agree. But the way he gets even the front 3 closing down etc is immense.

  319. oops double post sorry

  320. @Kudos
You do know that Guardiola inherited most of that team, right? And besides, do you want to know his net spend? OVER 100 million quid in just three years. Some of the crazy deals under Guardiola’s rule include buying Hleb from us or swapping Eto’o for Ibrahimovic. Do you really believe that Guardiola would be able to get anywhere CLOSE Wenger if he had to live under the same constraints and if he had to build teams from scratch? Heck, give Allardyce Xavi, Messi, Puyol, Iniesta + Barca’s youth system + sheer infinite financial funds and even he would probably be able to win a trophy or two.

  321. The playing style was from Cryuff. It was him that started building that squad and playing style

  322. @ Kudos – Per Guardiola is your grand solution huh? He inherited most of his team, and said team cannot even afford to buy our captain. Last year they where so broke they could not pay the players wages!!! That and their stadium is one of the most impressive dumps in the world. Actually Kudos I must thank you as you have succeeded in doing the opposite to that which you set out to do. You have actually made me appreciate AW all the more and have reinforced my belief in both him and any team he puts together. 🙂

And all of that is ignoring the fact that he has no intention of leaving BBB. It is one thing to throw out a name but quite another to get him. You really are an idiot.

  323. Anyway, the manager I would like to replace Wenger in several years time is Dennis Bergkamp. I hope he does well as the assistant manager of Ajax so when Wenger is ready to retire, Bergkamp will be waiting in the wings to take over.

  324. I agree he has spent the money which wenger never would. But saying he don’t come close to wenger. I think its now the other way round.
after the fantastic invincibles wenger dismantled and never replaced that grey team. Instead brought in second rate youngsters. No other top manager would’ve done that.I think wenger has been at the club too long. Don’t get be wrong I admire your loyalty but wake up.

  325. Evil, much as I would love that I cannot see it ever happening. His fear of flying would prevent it.

  326. OK enough talking to a retard. Will say goodnight to the rest of you 🙂 Would like to end with saying hard luck to the England Ladies team who played a very good tournament. And to Fungunner who was glued to every second of it well done also, who by the way watched the games from home while she was baking (corn muffins I believe 🙂 ) I dare anyone, especially our favorite idiot to say that she is not a fan!! COYG!!!

@ Kamran – Keep that countdown going as I cannot wait to start this season!

  327. rajiv ramlogan

Everyone is looking at the glass half filled, relax, take in the negative speculation, whether you like it or not, it is actually putting more pressure on Wenger than previous seasons, like he said its, going to have alot of new faces. More negative articles = More Pressure on Wenger = More signings this year 🙂

Wouldn’t mind scott parker, cmon media, stress him about Parker!!!

Just to clarify, I have all the confidence in Wenger whatever he does!

  328. Pep Guardiola! Oh that one is really leftfield. How on earth dod you come up with that name eh? Fucking genius!

How fantasy manager of you. Pointless engaging with this cunt.

  329. George; Yeah I know, you think the sun shines out of Wenger arse mate! 😀

  330. @dups
That’s my worry as well -=/ Can’t we just have someone do the A-Team thing with Dennis whenever there is a European fixture on the cards?

  331. CRUYFF never built any of that squad. Where do you get your info from? Championship manager?

  332. Kudos ~~ No other top manager had to suffer the restraints of building a new stadium and staying competitive. Appreciate the better comments though, shows you can have a debate.

  333. BBarcelona are broke lol they just learnt £70m winning the champions league. They win trophy after trophy. No player wants to leave them unlike nasri. And cesc and mist players want to join them. Even our shit players want to leave.

  334. Dennis Berkamp is my fantasy manager.
He can do away games by video link.

  335. @Kudos
Not directly, no. But he was influential in establishing the youth policy. While Cryuff was manager Xavi, Puyol etc. were playing in the reserves or close to breaking into the first team squad. Those players were nurtured under his watch, anyone who came afterwards just had to play them.

  336. Cruyff laid the foundations of the squad and playing style. Maybe not all the current players but they are not Pep’s either.

  337. OK Dexter. How about this.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Owen coyle or even David Moyles managing arsenal.

  338. And why are we still talking to him?
He is a real genuine top class retard.

  339. Anyway I’ve wasted enough time on you and your media led ideas, I have better things to do.

  340. Owen coyle or even David Moyles Oh FFS

  341. Next thing he’ll suggest Phil Brown.

  342. YYeah I take your point about CRUYFF foundations.
MMore so the passing style not so much the pressure and pressing the whole teamdoes.
CCRUYFFs barca when he was manager never played anywhere near like this current team does.

  343. Sunday Times reporting that Oil Citeh offering Nasri 185k a week. Obscene money.

  344. Owen coyle models and sets up his team just like wenger does. He’s admitted it many times George. Proves what you know an understand about formations and tactics etc.
stick to cat pictures and carp magazines.

  345. Since we moved to the new gaff, the spending has been restricted. Thats not a coincidence, with the manager having an annual budget of about £25m and thats for fees and wages. Cant see many top managers coping on that budget.

There are loads of other teams that have spent more, the spuds included. Yet even though Wenger has lost it, is fucking shit now. Not one of these other clubs has fiunished above him. In fact the only teams that do are those with vastly better and in some cases, unlimited transfer funds.

I have criticised Wenger. I spent too many pissed off days coming back from matches not to feel some anger and frustration towards Wenger and the players. Yet he has kept us in the top 4 with his hands tied behind his back and you want to call him a cunt? And use that pathetically childish and ignorant catch phrase that are the so beloved of the cunts convention section of Arsenal fans.

And Owen fucking Coyle or David Moyles (brother of the chubby radio bloke I presume?) Hahahahahahahaha! Prceless, your lack of imagination is scary. You really are a tabloid hacks wet dream.

  346. So your basis for getting rid of Wenger, is to replace him with someone who TRIES to play like a Wenger team, but not half as good? That makes loadsa sense!

  347. Annual budget of £25m what about the 45m we got for Adebayor and Toure? .
I mentioned coyle and moyes as a flip side to guardiola. Its not hard to work out.
I said guardiola andwas shot down so I gave a totally. Different aspect of management costing.

  348. Pep Guardiola is a pipe dream. Besides, do you think he’d leave Barcelona after just taking the job but a few years ago? Do you think Barcelona would let their most successful manager leave just like that? Come up with some realistic names or fuck off.

Shows how much you know about Barcelona’s style. Barcelona don’t have to run that much to close down the opposition. The reason why they’re so good at pressing is because they stretch teams constantly. When they lose the ball there are three players there to press one or two of the opposition because they were going in that direction anyway. They’re best weapon is their possession. That’s why they can get away with playing Mascherano at CB.

Got anymore media manufactured talking points I can slap down? I’m feeling a bit giddy about Venezuela being top of their Copa America group and Brazil being on the brink of getting tossed out, I am dying to talk about football.

  349. OK then I would have Andreas v boas. Jose mourhinho. Guys HIDDINK.
Happy now. Any of them instead of wenger.

  350. I never said guardiola is gonna come. I was asked who would I like.

  351. @Kudos
We bought Vermaelen plus we extended the contracts of players like Cesc Fabregas or Van Persie in that year. I think in total in 2009 we extended 19 contracts or so? Anyway, that’s where the money went.

  352. Hahahaha! You are a funny sod, I will give you that. And I am feeling a bit guilty about calling you a few choice names. But you only have yourself to blame from the way you introduced yourself tonight dude.

But that doesnt mean I agree with any of your choices! You simply want Wenger out and are just throwing names in. Mourinho? He is a cunt, but wouldnt come anyway as he would have no clue how to cope without £100s of millon’s. Erm, I think villas-boas has a job. Hiddink? Thats a real long termist idea.

Of course Guardiola got shot down FFS! Why do you think that was? We definitely will need a new manager sooner or later. Alot sooner if the doomers get their way. And I do think there is massive pressure on Wenger to deliver this season, so talking a new boss is understandable. However, I would be shit scared if David Moyes was given serious consideration man. His teams are fucking inconsistent beyond belief. Coyle’s best attribute is the fact he is scottish! 😀

  353. Lol kudos, you are funny! You can byu mr that beer now:-)

  354. george rodger

I will accept any manager who has built a team that plays in the CL every year and has spent a net of nothing to build that team.
Can anyone think of such a man?

  355. Seriously dude, I would love us to have a summer off from the player exodus shit. But we are living in a football world where teams can tempt players with fucking obscene wages. We cant compete with that shit. Even ManU had to cave into granny shaggers demands. All we can hope for is that the players want to stick around because they have an afinity for Arsenal. Cesc definitely has that love for the club (and the manager too)

I am also hopeful we can bring through a few more kids. I am not liking the rumours about us using Lansbury as a make weight in any gary Cahill deal.

Kudos, lets leave the manager chatter, we aint getting anywhere. What players do you want us to sign?

  356. TTv5 was a good signing. But our defense has let in more goals every season for the past 4 seasons. Every top club reinvests in playing staff whether they win trophies or not. If we didn’t gave clowns like almunia and Denilson. , eboue. Massive contracts we would have a larger transfer budget. Wengers fault.

  357. Coyle might be a possible candidate …. in maybe 5 or 6 years time, when he has proven himself. He sets his teams up to play the proper way, but he’s vastly inexperienced. Bolton collapsed even worse than we did towards the end of the season.

  358. george rodger

And I am feeling a bit guilty about calling you a few choice names. But you only have yourself to blame from the way you introduced yourself tonight dude.

I am not.He is an ignorant cunt and a fuckwit of the highest order.

  359. george rodger

Coyle? really ?.Could you suffer the inane drivel he churns out before and after every game? He talks absolute nonsense.MY player this and my player that ,fucking tedious in the extreme

  360. I think n’zogbia would be a worthwhile punt and on a wenger budget too. I honestly believe Cahill would be a good signing 17m is too much but that’s English players prices. Perhaps a keeper like sorenson for back up and role model for chesney. We need a left back now for sure perhaps Enrique. I would like us to bid for Benzema also.

  361. @Kudos
As I already explained to Bill previously, we had two new partnerships the past two season. None of our defenders had the proper time to get settled. Again, the Man City example: bought Toure and Lescott and Kompany, conceded 50 and 45 goals but after their defence settled they were league leaders in the goals conceded department.

Denilson got a new contract on the back of a really good 2008/2009 season and before his back problems started (and the form dip that followed them), so there is nothing wrong with that. Almunia’s last contract extension was in 2008, while Eboue is simply the most flexible squad member (and our only proper back up to Sagna). so there is nothing wrong with keeping him at the club unless we manage to get some talented youngster that can play RB adequately.

  362. George, thats your perogative mate. I just try and see the positives in everyone! I am a rose tinter afterall!

kudos; Almunia is leaving the club, Denilson hardly featured and wont be around for much longer. Eboue is a good squad player and a decent back up to Sagna. (But you probably hate him for the Liverpool shite, when the team shouldve scored more goals to render that fuck up irrelavent) And I notice you reeling off the goals conceded thing. Not even taking into account the fact we had our best CB out all season, had a rookie in his year in England, a young CB playing again after a year out and a 4th choice CB who had never played here before. If it wasnt for the WHOLE teams collapse, the defence wouldnt even be as much of an issue, IMO.

  363. george rodger

Dexter .I admire your tolerance .You are a saint of a man.

  364. Not sure we need a keeper as I rate Szczesny highly. Benzema is my fantasy manager choice man! I would love him to come and unless Real offer him toCity to get Teves, then he is definitely gettable. I’d rather Mata over N’Zog, but the Wigan dude is well experienced over here and would be half the price! Cahill is not worth anywhere near the £17m, but as you say its the English premium. I do prefer jagielka, but he is a bit samey to what we already have; classy mobile intelligent CBs. So cahill would be a decent signing (just as long as we dont give them Lansbury, unless its a loan)

I’d love us to sign that Arturo Vidal from Leverkusen. He would be a good signing because he can play at RB and as a DM and he scores goals too. The fella can do it all. He should be at the Copa?

  365. I take your point but we have the worst set piece defense record in the Prem.
does AW do any training on the at colney?.
I quite like koschielny, see him this season more settled. Diaby too injury prone. Denilson a crab. Eboue. Headless chicken. Clichy experienced at yet still out of position too many times.
Djourou started off great, towards the end shocking.
Why doesn’t wenger see this ans address. It.

  366. Thanks George! 😀

  367. george rodger

Best of luck Dex.You are arguing with the full force of fleet street ,You do know that dont you?

  368. Can’t comment on Vidal never seen him. I meant sorenson as back up and experience for chesney.
    Mata looks great but 25m . N’zogbia 8-10m .

  369. @Kudos
The problem is that Wenger tends to rush our most important players back to fitness when they are injured. Djourou’s dip in form came when he got his shoulder injured and he didn’t recover properly from the injury and it showed in all the games he played.

  370. Djourou had to come back from 2 injuries man, after a whole year out. he was excellent till those injuries (might have been after the OT injury?) Koscielny got better and better I think and he will be great next season, so will Vermealen, who we really missed. Gibbs deserves a chance to stake a claim, but if it looks like he cannot step up yet, then a new LB is required too.

  371. Anyway. My earlier posts were just a windup. Maybe a bit too far.
Gotta go wet the bed as irishgay said earlier.
Peace fellow gooners. Love is all around
New day and a new season approaches..(maybe a new manager) 🙂
    probably banned tomorrow lol. Xxx

  372. Ha! Right you are man. Take it easy and lay off the crack tonight! 😀

  373. None of those guys would do too well without a sugar daddy. If Andres Villas-Boas came here there wouldn’t be anything revolutionary he could do. Tactically or otherwise. He’s boring like Mourinho. And boring football is not what the people at Arsenal want. In fact, ask Mourinho how well things are going for him at a team with an attacking philosophy. He’ll last maybe a year or two more at best.

If Guus Hidink is so good, then he’d be coaching somewhere big at the moment. Idiots like you think he’s a god eventhough he went to Chelsea with a squad already assembled. All he had to do was show up at trainning and make sure that Essien didn’t bhreak everyone’s legs. His PSV days are way behind him. He’s better off sticvking to short tournaments and coaching the likes of Qatar or Saudi Arabia.

Name a coach who would come here and keep spending under control like Wenger does and maybe we can start chatting about a changing of the guards in the gaffer spot. Until then, get used to seeing Wenger’s mug on the bench week in and week out.

  374. I agree with you about N’Zogbia. He was Wigan’s most dangerous player throughout the season, he’s only 24 and is in Laurent Blanc’s team.

Cahill, however, can stay the fuck up north as medicocre players have no right to be costing that much. If we’re going to shell out so much money for a defender we might as well get Hangeland. Hangeland used to be a CM and he has an idea of what to do with the ball, which is imperative in a team which uses it’s CBs as pivots.

  375. @ Gainsbourg69 – I would prefer Metsecker if we are going to buy a CB.

  376. Go to hell Potato. Hahahahaha!!!

I think Hangeland is more mobile and better on the ball than he is.

By the way, I’m part Irish so don’t take offense, okay.

  377. mumbai gooner

KUDOS..clichy has left dont u know

  378. Of course I know he’s left Mumbai. Now go wash your body in the Ganges .

  379. Dexter, crack is so 90’s. Pcp is the way forward.

  380. People were using Angel Dust in the 60s,kudos.

  381. Its making a big comeback Frank, cheaper and easier to make.

  382. “Now go wash your body in the Ganges”

????? Unbelievible .You really are scum.

  383. .

    or Unbelievable even

  384. You really need to lighten up.

  385. If I said yo a geordie go bathe in the Tyne would that offend? No, you really need to lighten up. PC people like you make this country a now worse place.
” hey yank, go eat a hot dog” George offensive
” oil paddy go drown in guiness ” George. , offensive.
” hey jock go spend some money” George. Offensive.
Go wax your cats ears you sad middle aged leftie mug.

  386. Ive seen some of your previous comments can’t be arsed to look that far, but you slate and scream down anyone who has an opinion different to yours.
you really are a pathetic hypocrite.

  387. As some C19th commentator once opined,

What tosh! Mr. Guardiolas’ genius has been demonstrated on various occassions. For example, in the transfer coup that saw Eto been swapped for Ibrahamovic, or the deal that saw an injured TH14 join the club for funds that they obvously could not afford.

His motivational skills at Barca (where he remains a legend as a former player) cannot be denied. Whether these skills would transfer to another club is moot. His ability to organise the way that Barca plays DOES owe a debt to Cryuff (and maybe our own good manager!). Yet, given our inability to write blank cheques and our early stage in acquiring legend status as a club, his weaknesses in the transfer market would surely put question marks around his potential success at AFC.

And of course, I have here omitted all of the multitude of reasons why such an acquisitions are most unlikely if not downright stupid.

  388. why do some ppl have to be such wankers..

    lets talk football..

  389. no point nit picking over guardiola
hes won more trophys than most in the last few years and until he took barca over they were a club in no mans land..
can slag him off ober etoo and ibra but it didnt stop him clearing up did it..

for me..looking at guardiolas record, there are zero question marks over his managerial abilities

  390. Jonjon,

Happy to hear how things stand “for you”. Spark a brain cell, actually read where the acknowledgements and criticisms lie and see what happens.

  391. i know what your saying mate..dont have to get your knickers in a twist..
im just saying right now..hes the best manager in the world..
so theres not much critisism.. none…

  392. Limestonegunner

Guardiola has made some tactical blunders in big games I have watched, including the first leg against our beloved Arsenal. Taking David Villa off for a defensive midfielder, for example. But that will probably improve with experience. I think, however, he will make a good candidate to replace AW in a couple years perhaps. He is on a one year contract, speaks excellent English, and has talked about wanting to move on soon to new challenges and the attraction of the PL. It is by no means a pure fantasy to talk about him as a potential successor since Arsenal has the style of play and philosophy that resembles what he subscribes to at Barcelona.

  393. JJ says

“for me..looking at guardiolas record, there are zero question marks over his managerial abilities”

True, but you could substitute Wenger’s name for Guardiola’s and that statement would also be true.

    and

“.hes the best manager in the world.”

No,speculative. He is the manager of the best team in the world. That is a big difference JJ.

  394. ‘No man’s land’ Jon Jon?

  395. JJ,expect to be slated and screamed down imminently for disagreeing with me 🙂

  396. Limestonegunner

There are several good candidates–younger coaches/managers who are developing a track record and achieving success with teams not constructed through financial doping. I see Blanc, Deschamps, and Klopp as examples–there are a few others–of the next generation.

  397. Dennis Bergkamp,PLEEEEASE.

  398. ” judge me in May”
    ” busy transfer summer”
” my best ever squad ”
And you think he’s the best manager in the world. Haha. You couldn’t make this up.

  399. ” if it means coming 2nd every season, I’ll Sign up for 20years”
Classic. Best manager in the world. Dear oh dear oh dear.
