Eddy To Get No Mercy, Will Arsene Buy & Can Rosicky Stay Fit?

Mercy,  Mercy Me

Eduardo learns his fate today and will need to be nimble on his feet to avoid the books as they are thrown at him by UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee. I am quite frankly astounded by the speed with which European football’s governing body has acted. A cumbersome organisation rapidly set a date for the Kangaroo Court to sit and according to reports, has already found him guilty of their sins.

Most newspapers this morning note that UEFA’s General Inspector Clouseau, sorry Gerhard Krapl, oops sorry, Kapl apparently faxed the club, saying that the player had

succeeded in deceiving the referee, who was influenced by the player’s gross unsporting behaviour. There are no exceptional circumstances that would justify a plea for mercy

a line which several journalists are busy re-reading their texts on the event and subsequent witchhunt afterwards, looking to sue GI Kapl – has he got a warrant card, introducing himself as “Kapl. GI Gerald Kapl, UEFA Buffoon Squad”? – for plagiarism.

A robust defence sets foot on the pitch these days and has been launched on Eduardo’s behalf. Nineteen pages rebutting the charge, have been sent to UEFA, including a photograph which shows contact between Eduardo and Boruc, although that may have been a holiday snap when the Polish keeper bumped into Eduardo on his holidays.

They have also asked why UEFA has failed to use the charge before, despite having countless opportunities to do so since it became football law in 2006. Perhaps an even weaker aspect of the defence is questioning why UEFA condemns via video evidence yet will not allow referees to use the technology during the game. A more pertinent question would seem to me to be why players cannot use it to appeal against an incorrectly awarded yellow or red card.

I doubt that anyone at Arsenal expects a successful defence, not least because The Times tells us that “there is little sympathy within the sport” for Eduardo’s plight. Too right, they are all there quaffing their Crystal, thinking “there but for the Grace of God, go I“. The Gnomes, it seems, have psychic abilities and can tell you what the player was thinking. Let’s see if this works then. Krapl, which middle finger on my right hand am I holding up? Oh, erm, you are good at this aren’t you.

Window Shopping

Elsewhere, Arsene is probably beavering away to find the combination to the safe which holds the Euro Travellers Cheques so that he can go off on a shopping spree at a hypermarket. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many left so the local car boot sale may have to do. Still, amongst the fake Ming vase for Mrs Wenger and the slightly crumpled Barbie sans Ken for the nipper, he apparently will find an equally antique Gennaro Gattuso or a modernist Blaise Matuidi, although the price for that is a bit on the high side. The Chamakh he saw on the way in has been hurriedly chucked into the owners boot as they want to give him away to a worthy cause next summer. Still, it is an environmentally friendly policy for Bordeaux to have as it will save Arsene using two carrier bags.

What A Crock Of…

Once finished there, Wenger will be back at London Colney helping the medical staff to prepare for an influx of injured players when they return. He has been to Casa Rosicky and got Tomas‘ favourite Teddy Bear, ready for another lengthy spell under medical supervision. Rosicky, away with the Czech squad for their World Cup Qualifiers, has told the press that he is 100% fit:

There has been no trouble in training for Arsenal but I must try out some things yet, as the training sessions were rather light. Anyway, I believe I will be prepared.

His training sessions at Arsenal were light and there were some things he could not do. So, if I interpret that correctly, he admits that he is not 100% fit and probably should not be with the Czech squad, a point summed up by a “Yah Boo Sucks” in Arsenal’s direction:

Of course, he was not excited when I told him I would be going to play for my country. But there is no reason for me not going. If I am 100 per cent, then why couldn’t I play?

You’re not and you have a Duty of Care in your contract towards your employers. Here’s a hint, your employers are based in London, N5, not downtown Prague. Yea, Gods.

There is an element of recklessness in Rosicky’s attitude. I appreciate he feels honoured to represent his country but nonetheless, he has a bigger debt to Arsenal for enabling him to be in that position. A little perspective from him would not have gone amiss, especially since a little patience now would prolong his career.

In the same way that I do not expect Arsene to sign anyone before 5pm, I do not expect Rosicky to be available for another month.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. Am I first???

  2. Putting aside the immediate disappointment of Saturday’s result I am left with two strong feelings:-

    1. We were the better side and this will become evident as the season unfolds; thus no great need to strengthen the squad.

    2. The sheer class and dignity of Arsene Wenger when sent to the Stand. He looked in control and made all around him, not least the baying ManU fans, look small and pathetic by comparison.

  3. Boom! Great post, Rosicky has made himself look a little silly, hasn’t he. I do hope that the internationals gods are easy on us.

  4. NOTICE OF CHANGE OF NAME

Due to the duplication of Gunner From Nigeria name, Its now Eromism From Nigeria

  5. Champions League

  6. Given that Rosicky has only now partially recovered after 18 months out of the game, honing his match fitness by playing for the Czech national team really does seem extremely risky and foolhardy.

If god forbid he has a set back, our attacking options in midfield will diminish significantly given that TR 7 is almost an automatic choice in the starting 11 when fully fit.

On the other hand, if he does return back without any more set backs, he will definitely be more match fit. Very risky gamble in any case.

  7. LOL to the post. I’m still laughing. Nicely done YW.

  8. Just when we thought Eboue had finally learned his lesson, the fool had to turn back into the Pennywise. What a clown

  9. Tuesday morning. Alan Hansen is still a fucking moron. He still will be on Wednesday morning.

  10. what i don’t understand is that every time there is a throw in 99% both players stick their arms up to claim it, this seems to fall directly under the same clause that they are charging Eddy with.

Already we are seeing signs that this is not going to be equally used as, if i understand correctly, both Villa and Everton players dived in their European matches and got nothing??

  11. I dont think we will sign anyone

  12. Just when I thought Mrs James had traded in her hubby for a new TV and an ironing board he turns up spouting more crap.

  13. there is a rumour that spurs will sign krancar for £2m! at that price surely we should snap him up as squad cover.

  14. Ole, he’s a cheating clown and a liabilty, just like I said. What kind of a moron would do that this week of all weeks? Cheating is second nature to him

  15. Totally random I know but has anyone seen Myles Palmer’s ANR today? The man is a dick.

Who is this bloke Blaise we are going for?

  16. Most people dive to gain a penalty, that plank Eboue dives to get a free kick on the half way line

  17. Alex, ‘On the other hand, if he does return back without any more set backs, he will definitely be more match fit.’

Thanks for finding a silver lining. Cheered me up. Fingers crossed.

  18. Jac,

Perhaps AW does not rate Kranjcar. The coach of the football team James supports sure does rate him though.

    Lol@ Ole at 9.42 AM.

  19. James, what will you do with no Modric for 8-10 weeks?

  20. I just can’t believe how unlucky Eduardo is, I really feel for the guy.

  21. Jac, Krancjar is lightyears behind Rosicky, Fabregas, Nasri, Arshavin and Diaby in quality and all his goals seem to come from Lampardesque gotta-buy-a-ticket-to-win-the-raffle percentage tw*ts and miskicks. Avoid.

  22. Will,

I agree with your assessment of MP.

There are only rumours and no confirmation at all that we are going for Blaise Matuidi. He is a 22 year old left footed defensive midfielder who plays for St Etienne in Ligue 1, France.

  23. Great Avatar, Dupsffokcuf

  24. What I don’t understand is how anyone can see the Rooney dive for anything but what it was. He spanked the ball too far forward, let his leading leg hit the keeper and collapsed his trailing leg ready for hitting the ground.

Imagine if that were Eduardo, Van Persie or Eboue, the press would be calling for their and our heads.

Could it be that Rooney is one of the select English players?

  25. Kelsey Skirton… Nice post

Jac… there are countless forms or dives and play acting going on in each football match. I heard about Ashley Young diving to win 2 penalties in the Europa League crap, have we seen any media coverage….??

Eduardo seems to be a scapegoat to the pressure UEFA had from the Scottish FA. Now they have opened the door to referees being scrutinised even further. The pundits who covered the Celtic Arsenal game were northerners, i think we should question them why they discriminated Eduardo like they did and subjected him to this reaction. After all this happens week in week out. Ronaldo??.. Gerrard??.. Drogba??… Babbel??.. Rooney??.. Young??.. .. …

Arsenals 19 page letter of defence is a sign of things to come.

  26. Gennaro Gattuso was skinned, beaten, flogged and ultimately sent off in the Milan derby at the weekend. No way that he could cut it in England now. Avoid

  27. Ole Gunner,

    what did Hansen say?

  28. Eromism From Nigeria

Wenger should have prevented Rosicky from playing for Czech Rep. Volenti non fit injuria

  29. Will .. 100% AGREE

Rooney actually went down before contact!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. James

u looking forward to the signing of Krancjar

  31. Eromism From Nigeria

Can someone please give me a clue why football commentaries are always bias toward Arsenal.
I was very annoyed with the commentary on Saturday.
Why the 200 years old Giggs was praised to the high Heavens is strange.

  32. does Ian Wright get dafter by the day?

Gattusso isnt even as good as flatusso.

and if he seen him play at the weekend would realise he was past it!

i think most ex players are living in the past.

nx he be saying we resign bergkam;p

Alan Hansen advocates ‘anti football’ in support of the scottish ‘tri tackle all’ commission. at the head is Fergie with Mcleish on the wing and hansen the arse, in mean mouth piece!
    Its a conspiracy i tell u!!!

  33. Bragging Rights Ltd

I think Ian Wright has totally misread the situation. You could have the snarlingest, meanest dudes in the world – it wouldn’t stop the other team fouling you when you get into dangerous positions if that’s how they’ve gone out to play. The only difference is that a guy like Gattuso or Cana would probably lose it after the fourth or fifth niggle, and lash out.

It’s not aggressive fouling, it’s just a late challenge here, a deliberate block there. The game stops and Arsenal are back to square one, while the other side can escape without punishment. It’s got to be tough to get around these kind of tactics – and they are anti-football. Still, we’ll dominate so many games this season, that they probably won’t affect us much.

  34. What a wonderful piece of writing! This is by far my favorite Gunners blog simply due to the writer’s intelligence apparent from the text. Witty and yet analytical, keep it up!

  35. notlager,

Just the same nonsensical article in the Telegraph from yesterday. Ian Wright more or less just copied and pasted it.

I am just astonished at how nonsense propagates. They say we were bullied by Man poo yet we got twice as many bookings.

  36. Ole Gunner,

The stats which you mentioned yesterday about the fouls to cards ratio in our last 5 games (?) at Old Trafford were stunning. If you have them handy could you post that again? Thanks.

  37. what is gattuso going to do when fletcher ploughs through our striker in the box, award us a penalty

  38. There are some wonderful photos of the game on Arsenal site.

Fletcher and Carrick look scared stiff. They were both found spectaculary wanting on Saturday. The gulf in quality between Denilson, Song and Diaby and these two over-hyped water-carriers is quite dramatic.

  39. Alex,

It’s an amazing stat. I am not surprised. English football favours Manchester United in so many ways and this is probably one of the less insidious ones.

Last three meetings at Old Trafford:

Man Utd 48 fouls 5 yellow cards, Arsenal 44 fouls 17 yellow cards

    Source: https://twitter.com/optajoe

  40. Ole Gunner,

    thank you.

    Unbelievable stats.

  41. That is a damning statistic OG. In other words, Man U players were carded approximately only once every 10 fouls! Whereas we were penalised once every 2.6 fouls.

In conclusion, the Refs were 4 times more likely to give a yellow card to an Arsenal player for a foul compared to a United player.

  42. LimparAssist,

Michael Carrick is the most overhyped player in the premier league. There is not one thing he has ever been outstanding in.

He’s another player that shows me the strength of our squad. Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson…can’t believe they won 3 titles with those clowns.

But then, they had Ronaldo the tranny impersonator.

  43. Those stats are unbelievable. i have often thought arsenal players seem to get heavily punished on a fouls to yellow basis and these confirm it

  44. I think it’s a good thing for Rosicky to play for the Czech team, if only to get match fitness.

At some point in time, he will have to get on a pitch and do his thing. Wrapping him in cotton wool isn’t necesssarily the answer if we can live with the calculated risk.

Rosicky and Arsenal can only benefit from the match sharpness and confidence he gains.

  45. I think if Rosicky suffers another setback. He could also end suffering a change in attitude towards him from both the gunners fans and management.
This guy is quality when fit on a pitch, but he needs to realise who butters his bread for him. Our club have stood by him through his 18 month nightmare. I would liked to have thought he would have waited to get through at last one league fixture for us without injury before he made himself available for his nation.
If he suffers a serious setback on this international trip, I think his chances of another contract come the end of the season will start to fade.
Lets just keep our fingers crossed he comes through and gains some match fitness.
Surely there is a Gooner out there somewhere with joint Czech/British nationality who can offer to play the San Marino match for him!

  46. I just saw Miguel Veloso come out the Sri Lankan newsagent opposite the Highbury Garage.

He had a copy of The Sun under his arm and a Banana flavoured Yop milkshake stuck in his gob.

He was wearing our new third kit, twirling a scarf above his head and mumbling milky threats about running out his contract with Sporting.

  47. Ole Gunner

Does this mean he is a moron all the time, or he’s a moron fucking since Tues morning through to Wed morning?

“Tuesday morning. Alan Hansen is still a fucking moron. He still will be on Wednesday morning.”

  48. LimparAssist,

Yeah I saw Miguel too. He seemed to sipping a strawberry milkshake though. Not a good sign for a snarling midfield general I would think.

  49. Ole Gunner,

My heart drops when I see him in an England shirt. He’s the most backward thinking, one-dimensional player we have in that position. He was exposed as the optionless, creatively devoid bation of mediocrity that he is in the CL final last year. It was embarrassing watching him forgo attacking option after attacking option, such were his levels of non-belief in his own ability. Backwards, sideways, backwards, holding back the tears and trying not to sh*t himself when Xavi got the ball.

There has rarely been a less entertaining central midfielder at Utd.

  50. Luke,

All the time. All the time. Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, friday, Saturday, Sunday.

  51. No surprises really, with our luck and the kind of backing we enjoy from platini, eddy will be banned.

Even if he isnt, I DONT think that is the main problem at all. Eddy will really have to brace himself for the rest of the season, because he is a marked man from now on.

He will get HELL at every away game from the opposing fans, not to mention the “expert analysis” pundits which will include a lot of MIND READING everytime he goes to ground.

The team needs to learn and stick together and especially eddy will need to be very strong mentally to ride this storm because he is now going to be used as the moral compass for every instance of arsenal misbehavior.

    Cheers all!!

  52. Agreed, OG. Alan Hansen is a fucking moron all the time…

  53. Alex,

Quite. Turns out there’s nothing snarling about him. An elderly lady wrapped up in shawl called Marion asked him the time of day on Highbury Corner. Miguel panicked energetically and threw himself to the Holloway road tarmac with audible aplomb. He whimpered in Portugese while sweet dear Marion embarrassedly tried to help him up.

I crossed the road to lend a hand, thinking to myself, this guy’s going to strike up such a rapport with our Scuba Dudu, when suddenly I notice the imposter is not in fact adorned in our wonderful new 3rd kit, but draped horrifically in a pissy-sh*tty-Lily-whites top. Emblazoned cock on the chest and all.

I bustled Marion to the safety of the bus stop and in the shadow of a magnificent red skip, quietly strangled Miguel with his mullet.

  54. naga gunner

These sort of events make you stronger as a person, I’m pretty sure Eddy is already strong enough to deal with what ever they throw at him. Since seeing his leg flapping about in 2 pieces and being told that its possible to lose your leg, he has come back and played football at the highest level scoring goals instantly.

The guy has been through the shit basically, they cant bring him down. My money is on him scoring in his next game, lets see what they will say then. Jealous cun*s

  55. YW,

As Pavement might say, Moderate me Later

  56. nice read YW

    as for eduardo, CRUCIFY him..

When Wenger said Rosicky is short for Celtic but will be in the squad and ready to be used if needed at Old Trafford, he meant it..

Rosicky hasn’t had a relapse since then and unlike Fabregas, I feel the international try out will be good for his progress..

Rosicky is an integral element in the Czech team and they need him as much if not more than us to qualify, so they are sure to protect him if he seems to be overly exerting himself.

This is more than I can say for the Spanish, who have the greatest wealth in the world of central mid fielders and a rabid alonso using what ever methods he can, for a position..

The Cesc call up seems politically motivated (with links to barcelona).

I must admit if Rosicky comes through unscathed, I am most excited about his resurgence in the Arsenal team.

    Up the Arse__.

  57. i really dont care if they ban eddie for 2 matches or so..

im sick and tired of all this.. dudu has brought the club into disrepute and it possibly cost us the game with the mancs..

im an arsenal supporter..but im truly dissapointed with dudu.. do players forget that vdeo camera’s will find them out!

  58. FIFA, UEFA and the FA are forever trying to justify their own existence. Most of their ‘functions’ beyond organising the fixture lists are redundant and the football world would still operate without them. Not one of them has any real understanding of football at grassroots or even attempts to have a dialogue with supporters or players.

They are parasitic organisations squatting upon the face of a great sporting and cultural phenomenon.

  59. oz_gooner/spud

    are you being serious?

  60. oz_gooner,

I’ve heard that a couple of times now.

How exactly did Eduardo cost us the match against Utd?

    I don’t follow.

  61. At least ‘Dudu’ got us a penalty which sealed a much needed win.

Eboue couldn’t even manage to gain us a free kick on the halfway line,

  62. hey chrisgoona/mut

at least rooney made it look half authentic.. u cant compare those 2 footages..contact was made no question abt it.. but in dudu’s case..it ldoesnt hold up well in court if u know what i mean

  63. i wish we didnt have that penalty james…we would of won nevertheless.. thats what makes it look so fucking bad

  64. oz_gooner

so you are congratulating Rooney on being a better diver than Dudu??

you seem like a bit of a twat to me, holding conversation with James says alot

  65. The way he grinned after, what was he thinking?

All the good work by Arsene is overshadowed and we are seen as cheats, its not on. I feel sorry for Arsene the most, then to top it off he was made a fool out of, its not on. His players are letting him down.

  66. oz,

Looked so fucking bad? I thought it to be one of the more aesthetically pleasing dives of recent times. Put it next to Rooney’s ungamely pudding roll or any of Gerard’s weekendly spikey, pikey, dead swan impressions – Dudu’s was positively elegant. Reminiscent of Darcy Bussell.

  67. limpar assist..ok the reason i say that is that dudu was very uncomfortable coming into the mancs game because of all the criticism he received following the celtic game..

arsene was very well aware of this and opted not to use eduardo for most of the game coz he knew that mentally he wasnt quite there and that mancs supporters might of given him a hard time..( which they did )

Arsene got that desperate in the end that he decided to use him anyway..

all the bad controversy im sure affected the gunners lead up to the mancs game.. its something the players dont need to have..especially because we are a young line-up and we are not strong enough to mentally handle that situation yet

  68. Excellent post as usual YW.

It’s just a shame the club won’t risk opening another can of worms, but I would seriously consider taking out a case against UEFA using the Human Rights Act. They have already found Eduardo guilty without allowing him to defend himself and that is an infringement of his human rights.

I’m glad I’ll be away for the next week as I need a break from all this hypocrisy – my blood has not stopped boiling since the Celtic game.

    Play nicely people

and oz_spud – you can f*ck right off and don’t come back again – we don’t need your kind around here.

  69. LimparAssist

    🙂

  70. Very true, compared to Drogbas ‘Gun Shot’ roll it was a masterpiece

  71. Passenal

I don’t think the club can take it to the ECoHR. I believe that UEFA / FIFA statutes preclude any legal action being taken other than appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

If my somewhat shaky memory serves, any action taken through the any other courts results in suspension of membership for the club until the outcome of any legal action is known.

In other words, it’s our ball and we’ll take it home unless you play by our rules.

    YW

  72. I don’t believe any of our players wasted a second thought on anything other than the game on Saturday, second by second. We are far mentally stronger than you give us credit for, reflected by the fact that we dominated the game and only lost due to bad refereeing and a freak own goal.

  73. ok we dominated the game.. we looked far more in control that i agree with..

so why didnt arsene use dudu from the beginning ?

why put eboue on the park ??

  74. oz_gooner,

Hindsight is a wonderful friend to have.

  75. I’m not saying the decision not to start Dudu had nothing to do with UEFA bullsh*t. AW admitted that was a consideration.

I’m saying the rest of the squad are grown men and professionals and that it did not effect the team performance in the slightest.

I’m saying we were good enough to beat Utd without Eduardo, and we would have done had it not been for bad refereeing and a freak own goal.

  76. “I believe that UEFA / FIFA statutes preclude any legal action being taken other than appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.”

Similarly, Nazi statutes precluded legal action being taken other than appealing to the fuhrer.

  77. Have a good break Passenal. We need you fit and ready for the rest of the season.

  78. ‘why put Eboue on the park’

God knows, I’ve said on here for long time that Eboues skills should only be used at half time (to help relax the lads in a tense match), and at childrens partys.

Maybe Eboue could have a saturday morning show, like ‘dick and dom in de house’

  79. sorry but eboue did nothing for me and never will ..he isnt a starter..

  80. “eboue did nothing for me and never will..”

oz_gooner, what were you expecting from Eboue?

  81. nice one james.. LOL

  82. Oz,

He is a starter. He’s just not a finisher.

Had Eboue put his two chances away then his inclusion would have paid off.

He was man of the match against Celtic so earnt his starting berth on form. He is also one of our most experienced players, so earnt his starting berth through seniority and maturity.

  83. if dudu could have that moment again against celtic im sure he would of changed everything..

    no one is perfect..

  84. ‘He is also one of our most experienced players’

Exactly, theres no excuse for his moronic behaviour and careless touches.

I really wanted him to have good season but the fact is, it has been proven, without a doubt that

    Eboue = Shite

  85. Have fun Passenal. Enjoy your holiday!

  86. I agree with Passenal

  87. oz_gooner

the only bum chums here trying to stick up for another is you and James…. is something going on? or you just found someone who is just as stupid as you are?

You do know James is Eboue, he is the clown of ACLF.. so that makes you the clowns assistant!! haahaha

  88. scrub that…. Eboue has more class than James

  89. Eboue is having a great season.

  90. Frank

Eboue had a good season last year too if i remember rightly, apart for 2 or 3 games he was amazing for us.

So far he has shown he is the best sub RB in the league, probably the world! He has also played AM and scored in that game. What more can you want, he is probably one of the best squad players around who I dont mind starts when necessary.

    Bumchums (Oz_gooner & Spud-Mug)

How you both think you can pass better judgement of a player at AFC than Wenger can is hilarious … muppets

  91. Yes I agree with you, CG. I think this is the season when people will realise what a valuable player he is. We will win the league this year…and he will have made a significant contribution. The great thing is that the doomers and booers have thrown all they can at him and he has proved that he is more courageous than all of them. What more could they possibly do to him…

Personally I find the attempts at diving just a mild amusement. Nothing more nothing less. You dive…you get a yellow card. Seems fair to me. End of story.

  92. Oz gagger, give it a rest. If you can’t support the team go have a tea party with the spuds and james.

  93. Yawn…

    Eboue doesn’t need defending.

  94. Message from the Canary Islands. F*ck off James.

  95. Don’t see why diving has become thi sgiant taboo all of a sudden. What happend to the ‘it’s all part of the game now’ thinking. Oh yeah it was arsenal so everyone is up in arms (pardon the pun). Historically we havn’t had a diving culture at this club. I’m watching this unfold with curiosity. I do hope diving is toned down, however it had f’ing well f*ing better not have any double standards. Everybody should be tret equal. And thats going to be a very hard task for sep’s boys on a european scale.

Eboue’s timing was unfortunate, but just one of those things. Anybody watching him play this season will no he’s playing fantastically. Diving is one of those things, no doubt he’s aware, and will make an effort but every player is capable of diving.

  96. Yes Frank

The whole diving issue has been blown up to be seen as a BIG issue in English football. Truth is it happens in every league around the world, and in every match there is some form of play acting or diving. It is a part of football, the best player in the world is Cristiano Ronaldo, he is arguably the best diver in the world too. Alot of people hate his play acting antics, but you cannot say he is not a great footballer because of that.

It is part of the game. Rooney done it against us, Babbel has done it, so too has Gerrard and Drogba quite consistently during the course of a season. We have video evidence to prove it.

It is very very strange that Eduardo is being singled out. Doing so they are have opened up a new avenue which looks like we will have more post match controversies and referees being over ruled.

They are just making themselves look like bigger mugs in my opinion. Eduardo has taken the stick for them this time it looks.

  97. els

I found it hilarious how Eboue dived against Man Utd, there we all are protesting how we ain’t a diving team, sticking up for Dudu. Then Eboue goes down as easy as a sack of potatoes. He has been playing fantastically, so we can forgive him this time. Think he was expecting Evra to kick him in the shins. haha

  98. Q: How exactly did Eduardo cost us the match against Utd?

A: He brought down Rooney, Scored the resultant spot kick, Scored an own goal and Kicked a water bottle.

  99. els

My theory is … one of the most watched teams by the neutral supporters is Arsenal, we have gained alot of viewers who are entertained by our easy on the eye football style of play. Just look at the number of cooperate tickets and boxes we provide.

So with all these neutrals watching Arsenal, we get alot of coverage and opinions being formed outside of our fanbase. On top of that, our team is in majority foreign, our manager French, we dont have that connection with the general public like lets say a Gerrard or a Terry gives their teams. So while all these external admirers of our club watch the footy and praise our team when winning, there is also a jealousy and envy amongs these people. So when times aint so good, these followers and watchers of the Arsenal put their two cence in.

So when Ashley Young dives and gets 2 penalties in the Europa League, nobody really cares because only mainly Villa fans were watching, and the neutrals that were watching werent really fussed. In fact Young is probably praised and not condemned like Eduardo because winning a penalty is helping your team. Like when Rooney or Gerrad does it, but not when Eduardo does it. Even Drogba is widely known as one of the biggest play actors who time after time deceives the referee, he plays for Chav United though so i guess its ok.

The only conclusion I can come to is … Discrimination and Racism. Obviously the Scottish FA made a big deal about it, but the way the English commentary and pundits blew it up also uncovered how although we are loved for our football, we are at the same time hated and envied for what ever reasons they may be.

In the past we have been blamed for England’s failures, lack of English talent, and also attacked by pundits and fans for financial reasons and us not spending on Big name signings, or even overpaying for English over hyped talent like Carrick.

It is no shock to us Arsenal fans that they have decided to pin ‘diving’ on Eduardo, they have done similar before.

I hope Arsenal continue to hold their stance against this discrimination against us and our players.

  100. The inclusion of Eboue was to counter Evre’s runs from defense.

And boy didn’t it work! Evre never left his half and was anonymous, except when he got a yellow card.

  101. arsenalkabisa

Eduardo’s dive in the Celtic game caused the ref to lose sight of Fletcher trying to rip Arshavin’s legs off.

  102. Oh boy.

Where the carcass is, there you will see the vultures.

  103. BentleyTheFlyingTurd

Oz and James are already crying back on your crappy website, why dont you follow suit.

  104. @CG.

Edwardo jogging and warming up at the touch line confused Diaby for the own goal…

Edwardo’s presence led to the emergence of the Chinese mafia

  105. Eduardo caused World War II

  106. O’hara is miles ahead of eboue.

and mine is bigger than yours.

This is a team sport Einstein. You merge the strengths of 11 men, limit their weaknesses and come up with the best team. No wonder we are miles ahead of Spurs…

Art though targeting a top four finish this season too?

  107. @CG

    🙂

    At least that’s settled then!

He killed the pope and Margaret Theresa

  108. Chris, I’m thinking the same, I just think eboue bottled it rather than dove. Some of there tackles were just gbh, we still tore them to pieces.

Wrighty disappointed me so much, setting back song and denilsons great work so far this season, all the sheep supporters will go with what he says. And pay no attention to there fantastic interceptions, and distribution play.

  109. World war will start if Arsene doesn’t bring the reinforcements we so desperately need at the moment. We have enough money to buy one big superstar international world class top 10 player.

  110. Picking on our weak link who happens to be an International, peformed in the team that didnt concede on route to the Champions league Final, can play RM, CM, AM, LB, and RB without any real struggle. On top of that Eboue is a very important player in the dressing room..

What exactly has Ohara done? or Spurs even?

  111. On the subject of any possible legal challenge by Arsenal, how can they charge Eduardo with deceiving the referee if the referee subsequently reviewed the video footage and stood by his decision? If he made his decision on the basis that Boruc was preventing Eduardo reaching the ball, the questions of how much contact there was or whether he went down too easily are red herrings anyway.

Incidentally, that’s why I don’t think the Rooney incident was a penalty. He was not in control of the ball when he fell over, therefore he had no clear goal-scoring opportunity, therefore Almunia could not have denied him a clear opportunity by obstruction.
Are there are other grounds for giving a penalty in these circumstances that anyone can let me know about?

  112. Most stupid justification for Eduardo going down last Wednesday:

“Eduardo has such a light (physical) constitution that a strong gust of wind could knock him over”.

    Croatia FA Chief Vlatko Markovic

  113. Surely there isn’t a team in the world that wouldn’t want eboue in the role we have him? As cover for practically any position and happy as a sqaud player.

Thing is though if he played for the spuds he would be there best player.

Don’t be fooled he’s not a great, he just keeps great company.

    Who would you buy Ateeb?
It’s annoying we havn’t spent some of the money on a player, but with the prices as they are and the 3/4 clubs splashing the cash in europe like mugs at the moment, we would undoubtedly be using it unwisely.

Wait until January we have a squad more than capable and strength in depth to get us til this point easily. And pick up a player that has been pushed out by a major signing from this window. Chances are said player was good anyway, just most teams sign to appease fans.

  114. Hey guys,

Just arrived in Africa on Saturday and managed to watch the game on some channel that they call Super channel which was great. I have read through the past posts and everybody has said what was clear to me on last week.

Just wanted to add however that I was very VERY impressed by Denilson and Song they were excellent as well as our back four. Hate the fact that RVP got his goal chalked off i thought for a second that he had done a Gallas….oh well…

P.S On the point of commentators even in Africa I was forced to listen to blabbering Englishmen, however they have a great panel afterwards were surprise surprise they had a Arsenal fan that actually sticks up for our team. They actually acknowledged that Rooney dived!! This made watching much more enjoyable also they token Englishman who was intelligent enough to point some Spurs fans to there recent article on AW.

Man Poo were indeed lucky once again.

My favorite part though was even Shrek tried to take on Diaby shoulder to shoulder and Diaby brushed past him. Let the commentators speechless!!!

  115. arsenalkabisa @ 1.35

Thanks for clearing that one up!

In other news, Tottnum Tinies, last seen bribing an official to squeak past Brum, have this hour signed Niko Kranjcar.

Niko is a thoroughly average player who will fit in just perfectly at Middle of The Lane.

Harry Sadsack was unavailable for comment, he simply twitched nervously, awaiting the results of another parole hearing.

Niko The Mundane is to be joined at Middle of The Lane by Martin Petrov.

Petrov is positvely chock full of unimaginative, leg-of-lamb clouts across field. The sort of thoughtless hit-and-hopism that a certain unnaturally skinny, unfashionably bucktoothed, comically giraffelike new Sp*rs signing – absolutely thrives on.

One report said, down at Middle of The Lane fat scrofulous Spu*rs fans are literally wetting their knickers at the prospect of yet more spectacularly flaccid and inept route-one football.

For the sake of bored opposition fans everywhere – get well soon Luka.

  116. FunGunner,

It doesn’t have to be a goalscoring opportunity for it to be a penalty.

Any foul in the box on an opposing player is a penalty. There was contact and Mike Dean will claim that as justification for giving the penalty. It won’t stop you and I from knowing it was a dive.

The LOTG don’t say that it’s not a penalty if the opposition player can’t reach the ball. I think they should. I think it shouldn’t be a penalty if the player is in a 1-on-1 with the keeper and heading away from goal, or if the player has no hope of getting to the ball.

  117. Yay, Maria!
I wondered why we hadn’t seen Vela for a bit – he’s snugly packed into one of your suitcases, isn’t he?
In which country in Africa are you?

    ***

    Thanks for the response, Ole.
But didn’t the contact occur after Rooney fell, as opposed to before, in Eduardo’s case?

“Eduardo has such a light (physical) constitution that a strong gust of wind could knock him over”.

Isn’t that what people used to say about Michael Owen, Ole?
Seriously, though, if you’re in motion, and both feet are off the ground, slight force can easily send you flying. I used to do gymnastics as a child and quite a moderate touch from the trainer, combined with your own momentum as you flew (ha!) through the air, could change your direction or increase your rotation significantly. (I hasten to add that I don’t know if Eduardo was in midair at the time of contact, I am just backing the principle.)
In the football context, the faster you are travelling, the more spectacular the fall, I guess.

  118. @ FG

South Africa now on my way to Lesotho and agree 100% on Eduardo and what eeks at me most is that he didn’t demand a penalty nor did he give a lesser Ronaldo like wink or smile!!!

  119. Maria

How exciting! Is it purely a holiday, or are you working as well?

  120. “so why didnt arsene use dudu from the beginning ?”

Because he knew that Dean would give the Mancs free license to kick the living sh*t out of him for the whole match.

  121. A mixer of volunteer work and a family vacation.

  122. “I’m a security guard at Highbury House and I just saw Blaise Matuidi enter with an entourage. He’s apparently just had a medical and heading upstairs to sign his contract. You heard it here first.” Rumour on BBC Sport.

More preposterous is a rumour going round about Andriy Voronin? Ha!

  123. @Maria

    Its called Supersport!!!!

We live by it and swear by it.

    Welcome to Africa.

  124. Aha. Have a good time and I hope the volunteering is rewarding.

  125. CG, please dont say Ronaldo is the best player in the world.

thats the most offensive thing I have read this morning! ha ha!!

  126. Thanks AK, how good is the Monday night show??

    I love it!!!

  127. Thanks FG.

  128. Ole Gunner
Just seen your stats for fouls/yellow cards at old trafford. Thought you might be interested in this article in New Scientist about a bias towards red for judging close call martial art matches

    http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20327232.400-winners-wear-red-how-colour-twists-your-mind.html

Does this partly explain home bias for teams wearing red? Who knows just thought it was interesting

  129. Does anyone know if there is a break down of PL teams net transfer spending this window. I’m guessing that Man City aside not much has been spent.

  130. Man yOO were red…we are usually in our away kit of anything other than our red and white strip when we are playing away Dave.

  131. No Marc, we depend on you to bring us those sorts of statistics….!!

  132. Am I going mad or have there been a few articles in the news that are somewhat positive about The Arsenal? What is going on here? I depend on rubbish articles written by dwarf hacks as my moral anchor…if less than scathingly negative articles start coming out in the press I won’t know what to do.

  133. Links GG links!!

  134. @FG

I agree. If you’re going very fast, any slight touch can knock you down. Even a funny twist of your body can knock you off-balance.

But that gust of wind thing?

  135. People really shouldn’t be surprised about the way the game was handled by Mike Dean…he’s a well known and admitted ManU fan. I doubt I could find the article now as it was a couple of years ago at least, but this is pretty well common knowledge.

  136. Moral anchor, Gris Gris? This is a post-modern world. There are no moral anchors. Life is a ship-wreck. Etc.

  137. You’d be a man utd fan too if Alex Ferguson was giving you as much money as he’s giving Mike Dean.

  138. Axis

I doubt that he is. EPL referees have to declare their allegiances to PGMO and are not allowed to officiate any matches which involve that club.

    YW

  139. It is axis. So how continues to ref their games is beyond me.

  140. YW now that your here can you explain why you traded my Carlos for those ^^^^^^ guys?

  141. YW

I’ll see if i can find the article…

  142. I’m sure all the referees are completely honest about declaring their allegiances, thereby foregoing any opportunity to advance the interests of their prefered clubs.

  143. Maria,

By the usual standards of journalism I would classify these as moderately positive of The Arsenal. Of course it is easy to throw stones so if you don’t agree with me that’s ok.

Warning: don’t expect happiness, just better than the normal bashing. There’s even an article from the Sun!

  144. in a desert even a thimble full of water is a blessing!

Haha, that was rubbish. Who am I kidding. The media hate us. That’s ok, F#%$ them.

  145. Well YW all I can say is you will have upset quite a few readers. That enjoyed their daily glance at the Vela picture.

  146. YW

I can’t find the article where I read his admission, nevermind…his record speaks for itself. In big stadiums he capitulates to the pressure. He is certainly the most controversial of Prem refs and he hands out more cards and pens than any other.

  147. “EPL referees have to declare their allegiances to PGMO and are not allowed to officiate any matches which involve that club.”

Therefore any evidence that a Premier League referee is a fan of a club whose matches he has refereed must be a lie, and so FIFA take action to ensure it is destroyed.

It’s all in the FIFA statutes, which of course carry greater authority than international or even national law.

  148. Axis

At least that is academic substantiation of the fact that we have known for years: Referees favour the home team…

Mike Dean is simply incompetent. He does not favour the home team, of his games this season, 3 home teams won, 3 away with one draw. So he is just fucking useless.

    YW

  149. Well yes…but wasn’t Mike Dean also suspended at one point for his links to betting?

  150. Lee Probert on the other hand:

2 games. 2 home wins. Both by a single goal margin. Both games won by late penalties.

    YW

  151. YW @4:01

I did some research some time ago and it does seem that he favors home teams…but that was over several years of his career. This year so far, I agree with you.

Regardless, He is incompetent and useless.

  152. clichy_double_deuce

the telegraph claims the boss is going to spend 12m on subotic….what are they smoking, and more importantly, where can i get some?

  153. Probert is worse than Dean…if that’s even possible.

  154. The referee is unlikely to be so biased that he can guarantee a particular result. Looking at the results of the matches he has refereed proves nothing. The biased ref still requires opportunities to display his bias.

  155. YW…This is an OLD problem though, yes?

    Xenophobia plays a big part.

Arsenal is the only big four club that is not seen as “English”. [Non-english captain, Manager, etc.]
This accounts for the media bias as well as that of the refs. [Especially the perception that foreigners cheat.] When I was a kid, foreign players were few and they were generally disliked. Very few African players & very few South American players.

    Same with European players.

German players were disliked but respected, and always eyed with suspicion.

French and Italian players were weak and would take any chance to cheat. etc.

  156. In fact, both of Probert’s games were settled by 90th minute penalties to the home team which seems to suggest that he does bugger all wrong for the first 89 minutes and then goes completely gaga for the last minute.

Wonder when he will next turn up at The Emirates?

    YW

  157. C’mon Pz…that’s a Harvard University study of almost 5000 matches…you’re going to dismiss it out of hand with two sentences?

  158. It’s hardly the first time a ManU team has got any with kicking lumps out of us and to be honest it’s happened with other teams as well. I still feel that there is an inherent racism against Arsenal that the media and ref’s indulge i.e. “Those foreigners don’t like it up em”.

  159. Axis,
I was responding to YW’s comment about the games Mike Dean has refereed this season.

  160. Retracted…

  161. Nasir Jones-Nasri

    LimparAssist,

You’re my new favorite commenter for that Pavement comment.

  162. Axis

Xenophobia plays a big part. On Sunday Supplement at the weekend, the journo’s all admitted that had Eduardo been Rooney, then nothing like the fuss would have been made.

Interestingly, 2 of the 3 were in Monaco listening to Platini witter on and thought that the incident had been akin to Pedersen last season and could not believe what they saw when the incident was rerun in the Press Box before Saturday’s game.

All of them agreed that contact was made between Boruc and Eduardo, failing to see what the hell UEFA were doing in bringing the charge.

    YW

  163. Hey all,

Has Arsene WARNED our players not to approach the friendly internationals like cup finals? I’m hoping we can gain an advantage by letting others get the injuries for once.

  164. eddy got 2 games ban

  165. Verdict as predicted:

Eduardo gets 2 match European ban.

    Bring on the legal action!

  166. YW

The thing that frustrates me the most as a fan is that I never get the feeling that this is something that the Arsenal players are aware of and something that they compensate for in their style of play.

This kind of bias is unfortunately part of what we have to face as a team, but if we want to win trophies we need to be conscious of the fact that we aren’t going to be the media darling. We are the outsiders…at least for now.

  167. NJN

I’m hurt. Just because I didn’t say Wowee Zowee or reference Demolition Plot J-7, you put your favouritism to others!

    Hurumph.

    YW

  168. Some idiot was calling for an 8 game ban on Eddu and same for Wnger for defending him…

  169. This could work in our favour. We should be able in intimidate ref’s in future CL games. Any decision that does not go our way we demand that UEFA review the decision.

  170. Disgusting, I hope they make them eat shit over this and they have to revoke it and that fat twat blatter has to publicly appologise to Eduardo and Wenger.

    Hope this dosn’t effect eduardo’s game. I know he’s a target now.

Just a thought, the referee didn’t even give time to see eduardo’s reaction. What if he got up and shook his head ala Robbie Fowler. He probably wouldn’t but what happend to innocent until proven guilty. Thats the problem with going against the ref’s decision.

I’m disgusted, we should be able to do something about this as paying fans.

  171. axis – I have no problem with an 8 game ban just so long as they apply this to all players. What about Drogba’s behaviour in the CL semi? A ban that was reduced on appeal. Was it Drogba who got sent off in the CL final season the before? What about the CL Qtr’s against Liverpool, 2 decisions that cost us the tie?

  172. YW,

    “Xenophobia plays a big part.”

But what strikes me is the fact that the english fail to realize that the competition provided by these international players have in it’s own little way raised the standard of english football. English football has usually been strained of technical ability and all-around creativity.

Perspective is key. There are other ways of supporting your players than attacking others. Myopia shouldn’t be allowed to tarnish England’s reputation. Nobody wants that.

  173. Most boring transfer deadline day ever???

  174. California Gooner

Here’s a funny headline from Skysports (I was checking transfer activity): Arshavin blow for Hiddink : Andrey Arshavin will miss Russia’s clash against Liechtenstein. I mean, if you don’t have the depth to deal with Liechtenstein do you really deserve to qualify for anything? What a joke.

  175. Well, well, well…the fun starts now.

  176. We are guilty of ‘cheating’ and CL refs will have this in mind. Could be damaging to our progress in the CL. Would like to hear the opinions of other refs on this decision and the contact evidence Arsenal produced.

  177. Have you not just fallen into the same xenophobic trap, sixtay?

  178. UEFA have just made an enormous strategic error and they will now begin to unravel right before our very eyes. Excellent.

  179. This will also have strengthened the resolve of the squad. This is a very good day indeed for Arsenal.

  180. frank,

    what trap do you mean?

  181. California Gooner

I actually think this ban could have the opposite effect and help us. Arsenal can now beat Uefa with the stick of “fairness” — they will be at pains to show that they are not simply singling out one of our players even if this obviously what they have done.

  182. You have just made a rather sweeping statement about ‘the english’ as you put it.

  183. Frank – Agree on both counts. Fuck em.

It’s really funny watching SSN’s trying to hype up the end of the transfer window. They just went over to the Spud’s training ground for a live update. Apparently some bloke that looks a bit like Matthew Upson pulled into the carpark in a black Audi. Was it Upson – we don’t know!

  184. Looks like we’re almost garrenteed a top 2 finish with ManU and Liverpool both failing to sign anyone else. I can’t remember ManU going into a season with such a weak squad. Liverpool are basically just pants.

  185. Are we back to the “us against the world” mindset? Awesome way to promote our togetherness.

But ENOUGH of this eduardo hoo ha! I can’t overlook the possibility that its all a ploy to keep AFC distracted from more pertinent issues. Do we really need eduardo to overcome, with all due respect, the likes of AZ and Standard Liege? Is it more important than the possibility of loosing players for much longer to injury?

Is it more important than the possibility of loosing players for much longer to injury from less important internationals?

  187. Oh well not even a cheeky vieira signing.

    Up the Arse

  188. Could this decision to ban Eduardo is just to appease the Mancs for Fletcher missing the final last season?

I remember the Mancs tried to over turn the decision but failed, it would be so stupid from UEFA but I wouldn’t put it beyond them.
    ===

The whole world is against you Arsenal….but we shall overcome.

  189. Your right frank…happens everywhere really. My bad.

  190. Interesting point/conspiracy theory G4E.

I’d appreciate a little note on AFC.com just to say we definitely didn’t buy.

Also Sylvinho went to Citeh. I missed that.

  191. Interestingly AW, SAF and Rafa will be meeting with UEFA with other European managers later this week for discussion about ‘improvements’. Look out for the post-session photos of Platini with a plaster across his nose and two black eyes. He will of course blame it on Arsene Wenger who point out that it was not a head butt, he was simply bowing to the great little….little great…man. Strategically placed Arsenal video equipment will demonstrate unequivocally that there was in fact no contact.

  192. Yes Marc , I would have bet my next bot-ox session that if Manure had lost against us they would have broke, their already broken bank, to get a world beater to sign in.. It looks like Rednose has reached his final stages of delusion..

The Smell of DOOM is in the air, breath deeply and destroy..

  193. Jonathan Stevenson covering the transfer window for the BBC is with us;

1644: “Good day to bury ridiculous news, Uefa? They announce with beautiful timing that they’ve banned Arsenal striker Eduardo for two games for diving”

  194. No conspiracies Limpar…just the sleazy world of football, is no different from the sleazy world in general.

Let’s just see what the hypocrites of UEFA will do when the going gets tough in the final stages of the Champions League when Barca stars start diving all over the pitches of Europe.

  195. The mind boggles G4E. Will referees in Europe enforce the laws of the game, with finite authority, ever again?

On a lighter note, one of the more interesting happenings in the transfer market today:

“Oxford sign Crawley forward Jamie Cook, eight years after they released him as a League One club”

City and Real have literally ruined the fun for eveyone else.

  196. UEFA have picked on the wrong club if they think we’ll take this laying down.

Sounds like Arsenal will make them do their dirty washing out in the street for all to see. Force some accountability and responsibility out of these gaping a*seholes.

“We believe it is imperative that Uefa’s explanation for its decision provides clear and comprehensive standards that will be consistently enforced. It is also critical that Uefa provides specific details of the processes it plans to adopt in reviewing all games under its jurisdiction”

Don’t get caught playing silly bugg*rs with the Arsenal.

  197. We will be given an explanation on Thursday about Eduardo, so I wonder will there be an explanation on future use of video evidence?

  198. I also think Wenger doesn’t have to be dis-honest, he just needs to stick to “I didn’t see it”.

  199. Edit*

Ditch them and set up our own super league, the big clubs were stupid to let that renegade group disband.

  200. Arsenal are in the CL.

    Celtic aren’t.

    Eduardooooooooooo. Eduardoooooooooooooo.

  201. It seems Aston Villa’s period of lofty aspiration was a fleeting one, they are apparently more than comfortable padding the nest out with more mediocrity. James Collins for £5 million. It does make me chuckle. Their obnoxiously way-ahead-of-themselves fans will not be so pleased.

  202. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL

Eduardo is not a cheat but Eboue is a serial diver. That is why Wenger is pissing in the wind.Eboue’s dive on saturday threw Arsene’s words back in his face. Will Arsene punish Eboue? If not why not?

  203. random person has an opinion

A certain Axel Witsel of Standard Liege got a 11 match ban for breaking the leg of an opponent.
And this is was the Belgian league.

I forget what was the “punishment” handed out to the who did the same thing 2 years ago.

The irony couldnt have been greater, dudu gets a 2 match ban for avoiding being maimed again, while the real culprit didn’t even get that.

  204. Anybody want to take out a contract on Adrian Durham ?

  205. UEFA say they will dispatch a “reasoned decision” about Eduardo’s case. It’s good to see they have a sense of humour.

  206. Just in case no one has seen Ashley Young diving in Europa Cup game.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BWRDOjfz9c

  207. I can see both the £23 million price tag on Joleon Lescott and the £5 million one on his replacement Heitinga having a massive effect on Lescott mentally.

He is under a huge amount of pressure now. Not only to live up to the over-hyped expectations already heaped on him by our ever-helpful media, but also to overshadow a dutch international week in week out, with performances that justify that massive price gap.

First team up for Jolers to prove himself against; a flamboyant, rampant Arsenal side with more than a couple of motivating thorns in their side.

RVP, Arsh, Fabregas, Rosicky et al.

Good luck with that then matey!

  208. I just hope Rosicky comes out of this international break in one piece.

I don’t want him to play in internationals, but he needs the games and he has to try at some point to get into full action and see what happens.

    Fingers crossed…

  209. Let’s close ranks. The FA, controlled by MANU and to some extent Abramovich’s money are working hard to disorient us this seasons They use the so-called pundits, match officials and sportwriters to push their cause.

UEFA? it seems personal problems between AW and Platini have come to the fore since Platini emerged. Platiuni’s attack before was about youth recruitment policy talking shit about how Cesc came in but not how Messi got to Barca. Now its about Eduardo. I bet that he’s just aiming at AW but nothing else.

Despite the loss to MANU, I’m more confident this season than all time. Diaby and Song will be the revelation that will take us to the title.

  210. How did I miss the first half of the reserves game?

  211. clichy_double_deuce

    g4e…you missed three great goals

  212. I know 😦

  213. clichy_double_deuce

hah! that should make you feel better….four nil

  214. Yep…happy again

  215. Coquelin at Merida putting on quite a display.

i concur….watt not looking shabby either

  217. halfwit freaks running the asylum now at UEFA. Anyone looking for a good read should check out Declan Hill’s book about match fixing in global soccer The Fix . A nice section in there about Sepp Blatter. Why, you may ask, is there a section in a book about match fixing that talks about Sepp Blatter? It’s obvious.

It will be quite intersting now that UEFA have opened this can of worms. I would expect every losing team in the CL to submit video evidence to UEFA of a player on the opposing team showing “simulation” and to appeal for a replay from now on.

  218. oops, formatted the stop italics wrong!

  219. Look at this picture.
    http://twitpic.com/g46tj

Fantastic proof that the granny-shagger dived. Almunia went for the ball and missed. His hands have gone down. Rooney is still standing. Then Rooney leans into the side of Almunia’s arms and dives. Look at the video if you can. Rooney’s knee moves towards Almunia’s left arm. Then his left foot left the ground. Since the contact (sought by Rooney) was on Rooney’s right leg, his left leg shouldn’t leave the ground. It does.

Almunia doesn’t touch Almunia. Wayne Rooney touches Almunia.

There is contact. The referee will hold on to that as justification.

    Nicely done Wayne!

  220. clichydoubledeuce

we all agree that coquelin is MOTM, then?

  221. when is djourou due back?

  222. Why don’t you email that photo to UEFA, Ole?

  223. 4-0. Men against boys. And the boys won!

  224. Well, well, well, UEFA have done Platini’s and the Scottish FA’s bidding and banned the world’s one and only exponent of the fall in the box under pressure.

    Brilliant!

Siege mentality indeed now, whgich will stand us in good stead.

    Fuck em all to Hades!

  225. Djourou should be back end of September.

  226. There is so much about this decision which is manifestly unfair, but the most shocking thing to me is that UEFA have said explicitly they will NOT be going after anyone else. In other words, every other striker is free to go down in the box, and good luck conning the referee. Only Eduardo is not allowed to go down when he feels contact.

The arrogance and perversity and haste of this arbitrary disciplinary action almost makes me wonder if there is some deeper game going on – I really thought they would bluster for a while and then quietly drop it. But this almost feels as if they are trying to provoke an overreaction from Arsenal, or to permanently disadvantage the club in some way.

  227. The reserve game sounds like a good performance from the even-younger Gunners.

I am glad Gilbert, Hoyte and Randall are still at the club, as they have been written off by some.

I know not every young player will make it, but they may get a chance. Gilbert looked excellent when he first played for the 1st team a few years back.

  228. He won’t make the first Carling Cup game, then. Shame.

  229. Djourou, I meant

  230. FunGunner;

Well, that is why i mentioned Platini. He hates Wenger with a passion. He was being interviewed (by L’Equipe, I think?) discussing something completely unrelated, when he just blurted out how he hated Arsene! The guy has got issues, just as Mourinho has.

  231. So who’s our cover for defense…Anyone mention syladyvests and I’ll hurl!

  232. Doubt it FG.

I really think Johan will end up being a top defender. Such a shame he’s injured.

  233. Sixtay,

    Cover is provided by Sylvestre.

  234. No Sixtay

Gallas and Vermeallen are 1st choice, then we have Djourou, Senderos.

  235. Gris Gris;

Really cant see him getting much game time and I am quite pleased about that.

  236. Richard Dunne’s move to Villa will be finalised until tommorow. Last year Arshavin’s deal was done just before 5 o’clock and I remember the furore that came from News papers (Telegraph , Daily mail) Radio stations (Talkshite)and Sky about the transfer and made a huge fuss that the deal is illegal and should not be completed. just watch and see if they are going to make any fuss about Dunne’s transfer. NOT a WHISPER

  237. Spike, you ruined it! Was just trying to see what another verbal puke from Sixtay looked like. 🙂

  238. Gris Gris;

    Whooooops! Sorry! Haha!

    1 Loose Cannon;

Well, I think we all know there won’t be anything news worthy in making a big deal of this, as Villa are a completely honourable club, managed by a great tactician, employing honest pros who never cheat or dive.

Talking of doggin’ loving misoginistic wife beaters, did anyone see Stan “the sub hu-man” Collymore syaing Eduardo should’ve been banned for 8 games?

  239. Right, Im off, its nearly 4 in the morning here.

  240. I agree it’s personal with Platini, Spike, but I meant it is almost as if – to take an extreme scenario – Platini wants Arsenal to take UEFA to court, to give him an excuse to suspend the club or take some other draconian action against us.

  241. Oh. You’ve gone! lol

  242. Sixtay

“So who’s our cover for defense…Anyone mention syladyvests and I’ll hurl!”

    Gris Gris

    “Sixtay,

    Cover is provided by Sylvestre.”

    Thats was funny!

  243. Extract from an open letter to Mike Dean from a fellow referee, from Untold Arsenal.

“Maybe you suffer from some light form of epilepsy? Maybe you suffer from petit mal and don’t know it. It is a soft form of epilepsy where you have seconds or even split seconds that your brain isn’t working properly and you are a little bit absent of the world. This can happen without anyone noticing it. Please check this out with your doctor because it is important that you know it when you have those things”

    Brilliant.

Nasri Signs Apparently, RvP & Contracts, Other Stuff

  244. Nice one Gris Gris…I just hope he doesn’t puke here.

  245. FunGun, read your earlier post, all I can say is I have thinking there is something more to what Arsenal have to endure,. “I smell a rat!”

Unfortunately in this world Mega Money and corruption go hand in hand!

I have lost all respect for all of the governing bodies as they only do something when it suits them or they are question and they fine someone for stating the truth.

I think it will come to a point where teams just come out from under thoir filthy rule. The FA, FIFA AND UEFA needs the teams not the other way around!

  246. Something interesting I read on another blog.

Was just listening to a Brazilian pundit on an internet Brazilian radio sportscast (translated as best I can) talking about the Eduardo decision: “The English are a strange people. They call our football corrupt and violent. We do not deny it. But they feel an incredible rage when a player tries to take advantage to score a goal but not when that same player tries to break an opponent’s leg. Their emotions reach a point of hysteria at deception but they feel nothing toward violence on the pitch.”

  247. I wanted to follow up on Ian Wright’s comment or article from yesterday advising Arsene of signing a hard tackler a la Gattuso or something like that….

What the astute pundit failed to see from the Mancs game is that Arsenal player’s are treated differently by the referees. The fact that we got 6 yellow cards to the Mancs 3 for butchering our players is a clear indication of that. So, if we sign someone like Gattuso even in his prime days, he would be sent off 10 minutes into any game.

The 2004 defeat to the Mancs with the kick them off the park philosophy is the cause of all this. Now teams know to kick us, we complain about it, referees penalize us for the slightest of tackles…It’s a No win situation.

Now we are not only required to play good to win a title, but we have to avoid injury because referees will not protect us, and we have to avoid getting sent off because we will be punished severely for the slightest infringement.

    Tough task….but We Shall Overcome.

  248. Ian Wright is being ridiculous, what match was he watching? Where were Arsenal being bullied by Fletcher? getting fouled a lot is not being bullied.

Man U fans on a whole admit that we bossed the mid but this guy an arsenal legend cannot see it.

He should not be a writer or he should not write about Arsenal, as a former player he never has anything good to say.

    I hate that!

  249. I’ve commeted on Wrighty’s article yesterday and I said he sounds like Alan Hansen or maybe he wants to be Alan Hansen. He sold himself to The gutter press he works for. He didn’t have one single positive thing to say about the progress the team has made from last year.We outclassed Manure. Gattusso? goodness me, he is past it he has no pace and will be lost in the premiership. Song is far better than him and he is only 21.

  250. @ Paul N,

Glad it’s not just me – maybe I’m not totally paranoid, then!

    ****

    @ 1 loose cannon

Regarding Ian Wright, he is just encouraging other teams to kick and injure our players. Cheers, Wrighty. Thanks soooooo much.

Good night all. I hope I can sleep. I am livid.

  251. Its the top 3 Cu*ts of the week time!!

    1.Fat Alan ironicaly named Brazil.
2.Ian fukin cant say a fukin nice word about Arsenal Wright.
    3.Any C*unt who works at U.E.F.A.

  252. clichydoubledeuce

    1) probert

    2) platini

    3) rooney

  253. So we can expect Rooney…McGeady…Eboue…Ronaldo(he must have dived)……That Ipswich player….Messi….all to get bans now then. oh and did that fat c*nt Brazil mention McGeady diving…did he fuck and he still took the piss out of Eds. Talk sport have tried to ruin Eds reputation in excactly the same way they did to Cesc… The xenophobic w*kers

  254. Whats happened did we sign anyone????

  255. Talkshite is full of shit From Brazil (just in case any foreign gooners reading this, the one we are refering to here is not the country. We are refering to a fat alcoholic Jock named himself after a great footballing country because his country is shit at football) anyways Adrian Durham the shite prince but the king of shite is Stan Collymore the biggest turd of them all.

  256. 1lc,

I disagree about Stan being the worst. The clear winner is Myles (I live chelsea) Palmer.

  257. Dupsffokcuf.I’m a bit ignorant of this Palmer bloke did he write some books or something. I assume he is a Monster Turd.

  258. This is what I have sent to Myles, I don’t expect it to be published though.

I am looking forward to the near future when Alan Hansen, yourself and all the other journo’s and pundits who have refused to think outside of the box, refused to point out what is great about our team.

It wasn’t so long ago that Alex Song wasn’t even a footballer to you, I haven’t heard much of that anymore.

Wenger will never use the 4-3-3 and that it will never fit the players we have. You point out that our forwards haven’t scored totally refusing to acknowledge that the system has helped us dominate in every game since the season started. You were quick to point out the individual mistakes against Manchester United but once again refused to tell the readers the truth, the truth was that we were by far the better team.

All of a sudden this is Alex Ferguson’s worst team since before Cantona. I kind of thought they won the league for the last three seasons and all they have sold is one player. Tevez was mostly a sub.

How are you going to continue to defend your anti Wenger, anti Arsenal, anti players stance when we rise to the top this season. I have no doubt in my mind that we will beat your beloved Chelsea this year.

You have a team of pedestrian old men who are passed their sell by date. You think Drogba and Lampard are going to bail you out every week. You think you are going to be able to show enough craft against teams who sit back and don’t come out to play. I don’t think so.

Chelsea are going backwards, you haven’t got fresh young improving attacking, inventive players who will unlock doors. Your bull dozing style will only get you so far.

What are you going to do when your ‘French African’ players disappear as you love repeatedly bringing up when it comes to Arsenal.

I predict very subtle changes to your words, to your articles as the season goes on. You will not admit defeat you will start pretending that Wenger has changed his ways, you will pretend that Wenger is now doing what you said xxx months ago.

Our manager is too advanced for your thinking, you and many out there who have trashed him for not doing what Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have done, piss money up the wall on ‘stars’ who will last a couple of seasons and start their decline to an early pension.

We are at the beginning of world domination me dear chum, look beyond our first team. Open your eyes to the crystal ball we have at the Emirates. Wilshere, Ramsey, Merida, Coquelin, Gibbs.

At the end of the season I will have a field day going back and quoting all you ‘know it all’ morons who predicted Arsenal to fall out of the top four.

    * Van Persie cannot play in this team
    * Arsenal need a holding player
    * Arsene has to stop buying kids
    * Song is not a footballer
    * 4-3-3 cannot work

    etc etc, I cannot wait.

I do not expect you to publish this because I haven’t started by saying “Dear Myles, I love your site I have been reading it for many years blah blah but it would show you have a back bone, go on, give it a shot, what can you lose?

Why the angry approach? Well I am sure many Chelsea supporters would feel exactly the same way if I was to write such negative drivel on Chelsea News Review.

  259. Nasir Jones-Nasri

    Best. Blog. Ever.

    You rule, YW.

Wowee Zowee is easily my favorite Pavement album.

    Any shoegazers?

  260. Very good post Mean Lean…I doubt people like Myles can accept or have the guts to put up this kind of post on their own blog.

You are basically asking him to step out naked in Piccadilly Square.

  261. Mean Lean – good passionate post. You may just have done enough to get your email published, and rebutted. As the site owner, he will always have the last word. But your challenges may just rile him enough to respond in his know-it-all style.

  262. Pseudo intellectuals like Myles are more dangerous than the Stan Collymores.

  263. How do you mean, luke?

  264. Sixtay

I mean that folks are generally more impressed by the persuasive writings of Pseudo Intellectuals than the simple opinions of the Stan Collymores in the internet media.

  265. Mean Lean,

Here’s what I posted to myles on ANR

    ==========================

I actually acknowledge people like you Myles. It’s swashbuckling criticism like yours that keeps the Club on it’s toes. You are an arsenal fan no doubt, the depth of your comments, however negative they seem, show you actually care, to some extent, about arsenal.

One thing I should point out though is IF YOU LOOK HARD ENOUGH FOR SOMETHING, YOU’LL FIND IT. Focus is key to understanding. Try to keep an open mind. Leaning on one side off the fence creates an imbalance. And I think it’s in you own interest to do so, cos, if you haven’t noticed, times have changed.

Gone are the days when majority of arsenal fans were negatively oriented. If your blog is meant to attract viewers/hits, I suggest you post articles that the MAJORITY agree with. Keep an open mind, don’t throw the negative criticism away, instead try to balance it out by putting AS MUCH EFFORT (nothing more) into pointing out the positives as you do the negatives. If you can accomplish that, I’ll really respect you man!

  266. Think he’ll listen?

  267. Sound like you actually rate Myles, luke?

  268. Sixtay,

Even Pyles may agree that your mail is the most bizzare and philiosophical he has ever got. You may even have it published on his august website. Now that is a privelege Sixtay.

  269. ha ha…who the man?

  270. Anyway Alex how often does he do that, u know, post viewer comments?

  271. Sixtay – I don’t rate Myles at all because he’s on the opposite side.

  272. You are a stupid man, Sixtay

  273. I dreamt Aaron Ramsey scored the winner in a big European match. It’s hazy, blinded by floodlights and rapture but it could have been a tense Champions League semi-final. It was joyous.

  274. “Focus is key to understanding. Try to keep an open mind. Leaning on one side off the fence creates an imbalance”

Do you write self-help books Sixtay? Your fortune cookie wisdom is strongly reminiscent of such drivel.

  275. We will be able to cope with Eduardo’s 2-match ban from a football point of view. We’ll just play Eduardo in the premiership games before and after the mid-week Champions league games, and rest Bendtner or van Persie or Arshavin for those games.

  276. I agree Luke. Eduardo was never going to start every game this early in the season anyway.

  277. LimparAssist

As an Arsenal fans, we count the days to every match, we count the months to every season. My God. It is boring without club football for the next 10 days.

  278. Its not the ban that’s galling though is it…already no word has been spoken from UEFA about the other incidents of diving that have taken place recently. Messi, Ashley Young seem to be off scot free.

Its like journo Charlie Brookers solution to parking offences. Just randomly shoot one or two as they get out of the car and let it be known you’ve got snipers around as a deterrant. Bit harsh on the ones that get shot.

  279. Tell me about it Luke.

    How about this…

Rather than pursue their racially prejudiced anti-Arsenal agenda, UEFA should celebrate our diver-sity.

    Eh?

    Diver-sity

    Eduardoo Eduardoooo

I’m glad we didn’t sign anyone. When we win the league with the squad we’ve got, all the idiots shouting about DMs and big spending will look even sillier. If we had’ve bought someone any success’d be put down to our new strength in depth.

  280. That solution is one which has been suggested by moral philosophers for many years, QoS. Tongue in cheek of course.

The reason that the actions of UEFA are unacceptable is that they are unjust. This is further compounded by the fact that their actions are not rational….and further compounded by the fact that they are unsustainable.

If Arsenal play this carefully and intelligently UEFA as an organisation could become a dead duck.

  281. But do Arsenal want UEFA to be a dead duck? Probably not, not before we have won the ECL a couple of times with Eduardo scoring the winning goals. But once Arsenal have the moral highground it may be time to barter.

  282. Does Platini think Arsenal will just bend down while he fooks them with a three-incher?

  283. Better to make Platini a dead duck…

  284. “This is a disgrace. We are talking about a player who is a role model. If he is punished for this we should be having punishments after every game”.

Slaven Bilic gets behind his player.

  285. Yes I agree. I think that we are several steps nearer to having a European Super League than we were two weeks ago. I hope so and I hope Arsenal lead the way. Ian Gazidis is a very smart choice as an Arsenal CEO for this sort of initiative. There is much much more to this than meets the eye. AW is a very clever man.

  286. Frank,

But wouldn’t you miss the one-off, all-or-nothing on the night drama of a knock-out competition?

Wouldn’t massive head to heads like Arsenal vs Barcelona be devalued somewhat if we played them twice a year?

  287. Bragging Rights Ltd

Some of the football last night was just ridiculously good; the second and third goals last night were perfect. I’d rather watch team-play like that than 30 yard strikes. To think this style runs through the club from top to bottom with every side playing Dutch 4-3-3, pressing and one-touch football – only in the Arsenal style. It’s scary.

It’s like Arsenal have become everything I envied from other teams back in the day.

  288. Bragging Rights Ltd

Man, in my excitement I stopped making sense.

  289. Totaalvoetbal baby.

    You make totaal sense.

At Bragging Rights Ltd, we understand that it can be hard to get back to your normal life after a defeat to one of your biggest rivals. On top of points lost for your team, you may also have suffered loss-of-face at work or in your social life, and may even be down a few pounds.

Despite all the glitz of the Sky-era, football isn’t scripted entertainment. Things don’t always go to plan. People make mistakes, referees get it wrong and Wayne Rooney is a multi-millionaire.

It’s times like this that you wonder if you’re looking for fulfilment in the wrong places…

This isn’t the case, of course. You just need someone to blame.

This is why we have been working since November 2004 to help people like you claim the compensation you need so that you can get back to ignoring reality.

We are the most experienced vicarious emotional injury specialists in the UK and have helped hundreds of armchair managers by putting them in touch with our network of football pundits and experienced journalists who work hard and fast to discern which of your your players are to blame for the defeat.

You don’t pay a penny for this service. This is because our specialists work on a NO SIN, NO FEE basis. If you find your scapegoat, you should receive 100% emotional compensation, and it will be left to the team you support to pick up the pieces.

Come on give us a call, so you can get off your backside and back in your armchair.
