UEFA and Arsene Provide No Surprises As The Window Closes

So Are They Good Enough?

The transfer deadline passed with no significant activity taking place at London Colney. Speculation that a late resurrection of the Chamakh deal proved ill-informed whilst there was no Matuidi arriving in a Blaise of glory. It was entirely in keeping with Wenger’s assessment last week that there might be signings made but that he was happy with his squad.

He echoed that point at the weekend, following the defeat at Old Trafford:

I feel we are equipped to challenge for the title. Frankly, when you see a comparable two performances of the two teams, you can recognise that

Is he right? The start to the season has been good. How good it is will be known by the end of September. The visit to Manchester City is important, not just because they have made a good start to the season. It will be the indication of how this squad reacts to adversity, whichever form it comes in.

Having gone down to a defeat at the closest rival in controversial circumstances ought to engender a sense of injustice, rather than letting heads drop. That will be Arsene’s biggest task, an objective he will have to achieve in a short space of time with the internationals provided another unwelcome interruption.

There are plenty of positives when considering the squad. Results have been achieved with key personnel injured. Samir Nasri looks set to return at the end of the month whilst Tomas Rosicky was omitted from the Old Trafford squad on the basis that the fixture would be too tough for him following his lengthy lay-off. Rather than the physicality of the encounter, I guess Wenger meant that the intensity may hamper the Czech’s own fitness, too much strain put on muscles not used to vigourous exercise.

Questions asked before the summer, have I believe, been answered about the midfield. Song, Denilson, Diaby and Eboue have all worked hard in the fixtures. They were more than a match for Manchester United at the weekend, highlighting the paucity of Ferguson’s squad. Let us not forget, the defeat was to some extent self-inflicted through Diaby’s own goal and Almunia’s misjudgement for the penalty.

That does not make them bad players nor liabilities. It has allowed some retrospective rewriting of history, those who praised Almunia’s improvement last term are now revising their opinions to claim they never said that.

The truth is that he is not a world-class goalkeeper but there are few of those about and none of the market within Arsenal’s price range. He is a good goalkeeper, certainly comparable to anyone playing in the Premier League at the moment and no more a liability than his domestic peers. He is a Lukic rather than a Seaman but there are precious few of the latter around at the moment.

Alan Hansen and Ian Wright are lone voices in punditland declaring the genius of Darren Fletcher. Curiously they ignore the fact that Diaby and Song gave the United midfielder the runaround at the weekend, requiring refereeing ineptitude for the Scot to remain on the pitch rather than the glorious, mystical qualities that are being bestowed upon him.

The Arsenal midfield break-up play as effectively as anyone else but do so through interceptions rather than crunching tackles. It is the blind spot of the English that requires a midfielders defensive duties to be ostentatiously carried out, refusing to accept that quiet diligence is as effective. It was one of the reasons why Gilberto was not accepted when he first arrived at the club.

Defensively, the squad is in good shape. Vermaelen and Gallas have been imperious, refusing to buckle under pressure and marking very well. The previously perceived weaknesses appear ironed out. The only concern is whether there is sufficient cover centrally. No matter what may be thought of him, Senderos remaining at the club has been useful to Wenger for short-term fixes whilst Djourou recovers. It enables Song to remain in midfield until the Swiss international recovers from his injury. Full back is just well-stocked; Gibbs and Eboue are better individually than many first choice full backs at other clubs.

The front three has yet to score from open play. van Persie did everything but score on Saturday, the signs are that goals will come. If the situation remains in October then there will be a time to worry. Dismissing any of them as not being able to replace Adebayor is wide of the mark.

No-one can say that there is not a 30 goals a season striker there other than none of them has done it for Arsenal in their careers. They will score and on a regular basis. Even then, Manchester United has proven that so long as the goals are going in from elsewhere, the traditional centre-forward needs to net 20. And others are scoring. Arshavin has two in two whilst midfielders and defenders are contributing more than they did last season, covering the front trio.

There are weaknesses in the squad but it is for Wenger to minimise the impact. Over-reliance on one player has been a fault in the past but the signs are that they players are working to eradicate a dependency on Fabregas. That will be more effective as those who are injured return and become more confident in their impact on the side.

The squad is well placed. It is too soon to say it is best equipped as the official site did recently. It is more than fair to say that the squad is as well placed as any of the genuine contenders for the title. The strength is there. The quality is there. The technique is there. The will to win is there. Now they have to deliver. And they will.

Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport

Eduardo received his two match ban from UEFA for deceiving the referee. The decision was reached by the investigating officer – Krapl. Gerry Krapl, UEFA Buffoon Squad. Oh, no, sorry, it was reached by a committee who were in no way influenced by the phrase, “There are no exceptional circumstances that would justify a plea for mercy“.

Arsenal has to defend the player and launch an appeal. He has already been hung out to dry by the press and it is noticeable that Gordon Smith, previously incredibly verbose, went very quiet over the weekend when two players in the SPL were carded for diving.

When the decision is delivered to Arsenal, it will be a terse and very short document. The only rationale for the UEFA decision is that they have ignored any evidence other than that of their own investigation. In other words, the reason is, “Pffffffffffff. We say he did it.

It is not just the West Ham and Millwall fans who have returned to the 80s. The press in England has as well. They may change individually but collectively, the sensationalist and lurid manner in which Eduardo is being hounded is an unwelcome reminder of the rampaging egos that haunt Fleet Street, Canary Wharf and every other stone under which a football hack can be found.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. They shall pay.. All of man-kind shall pay for this..

  2. Torres dive against Bolton on August 29th, last saturday.

    http://www.bolton.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=168756

What is the FA gonna do about it? 2 match ban. You’re having a laugh.

  3. Just read this comment from Kamara.

“As football people we’re siding with Wenger, questioning why Arsenal should be the ones to be picked on, but he lost that sympathy by accusing Darren Fletcher of stopping his team playing football.

“I’m sorry but that’s been in the game for donkey’s years where one midfield player makes a plethora of tackles.

“Yes he committed six fouls but that’s for the referee to control, so Arsene lost the sympathy vote by coming out with that statement.”

  4. You mentioned that our front 3 have not yet scored from open play…..Arshavin against Manure???

    Good read as always.

  5. In a 4-3-3 formation one expects the strikers to be scoring lots of goals. That RVP hasn’t scored will worry him. But I think things will change when Theo returns. He is fast and the formation favours a players of his sort. I expect a lot more from the wings when he returns. This may be the year when he breaks from good player to legendary player. At worst I expect him to outperform the Scum’s Aaron Lennon.

  6. Hi Yogi
well written post as usual. but I think Arshavin might be in the front three! and scored in open play!!
still in for the quadruple yeah!

  7. Ohh sorry just checking what you wrote and already a fellow fact checker has been busy!! all the best dave

  8. kenyan gunner,

In any formation, you expect the strikers to score. Sooner or later they will. It has NOTHING to do with Theo.

  9. The Torres dive is awful.

  10. Another good ‘un, YW. You’re on a roll!
Especially agree with the last paragraph.

  11. I saw Kamaras comments too, makes himself looks silly. its obvious to all neutrals that the fouls/yellows at OT were not evenly dished out. i am sure if Song had behaved how Fletcher did he’ would have finished the game with an early bath.

great post as usual YW, think this is fast becoming the best arsenal blog out there, always my 1st searched for. like the new banner too.

  12. Didn’t Eduardo score against Everton and Arsh against Manure? But its all over the web that our strikers haven’t scored!!!

    Anyway, good Article.

  13. I have no doubt that Arsene Wenger is a very good manager. I wonder if he’s a lucky one? These last few seasons he has not had much of it.

  14. The Eduardo charge is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t remember anything happening when this cunt tried to ‘decieve the referee’ in a match against us in the CL.

  15. The Eduardo charge is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t remember anything happening when this player tried to ‘decieve the referee’ in a match against us in the CL.

  16. Almunia is not as good as any other keeper in the Premier League. He makes too many mistakes and rarely makes game-winning saves. We have kept one clean sheet in five games this season. That’s fine as long as you score 4 or 6 per match, but you won’t every week and if you don’t keep shut outs, you will drop points.

A better keeper would have an immediate impact on points gained and with £40m banked this summer, it’s ridiculous to suggest we can’t afford one.

You also say the front three haven’t scored from open play – Arshavin scored v Man Utd and Eduardo scored v Everton.

  17. Jac,

It’s media disinformation at work again. They are conveniently missing Wenger’s point. The point was about the referee who allowed a player to foul several times and did not issue a booking. If you read Wenger’s actual comments, the meaning is clear.

He wasn’t moaning about being kicked.

He then went on to say that persistent fouling is against the spirit of the game. And that should receive censure. Again, the referee and NOT Fletcher was the object.

  18. We shall overcome. No UEFA, Media, Pundits and Referees’ weapon fashioned against Arsenal shall prosper.

  19. Ive not seen a manager apart from grapham taylor when he was manager of england, take so much abuse and questioning of his decisions by media and pundits. Virtually all ex players wollymore, wright, hansen (like i reeled of a list of prats)etc, wanna be hack Pyles Palmer, Red tops (sun mirror),broadsheets (telegraph) supposed arsenal blogs (Arsenal Action in particular) etc are all leading the charge in the attack of all things arsene and Arsenal.

    shocking really!

add to that UEFA’s witch hunt.

after the defeat at old trafford wenger hinted at his team not being favoured by officials but did not want to go further and went on to say something like “we know how things work in england”.

  20. The problem with UEFA’s arbitary punishment of Eduardo is the lack of sensible proceedure of it which is why thy should have been diplomatic or imposed a suspended punishment. It appears it was his grin while on the floor condemed him not whether or not contact was made.

I’m all for a crack down on cheating but UEFA should have come out with an appropriate structure, which if they are not going to monitor all matches maybe they should use a citing proceedure as in Rugby where the opposing team can ask for incidents to be reviewed. Indeed it might suit a wronged club not to take action if it mean’t a star player missing a key game involving a rival side. This process would involve the injured party rather than Sky Sports News or ITV deciding which incident they want to highlight to suit their purpose. It should also apply to defenders who make contact and then claim the opponent dived.

  21. Great post, it is always the same, we get the whole ‘paranoid Arsenal’ quotes but surely the facts speak for themselves?

We have players sent off for things other teams don’t even get booked for. Players break our players legs (Diaby against Sunderland) and the player doesn’t even get sent off.

Why is it when a player breaks an Arsenal players leg he is held up as the victim ie. “Poor Mathew Taylor, he must be so upset he is not that kind of guy”? But when Eduardo goes down a bit easy he is the worlds worst villain?

Last season saw some outrageous diving from Ronaldo, yes it was discussed, no he wasn’t ostracised. Rooney’s dive against us at OT was ‘clever’ play not cheating, it makes me sick.

  22. Small point of order:

Yep hands up forgot about Eduardo’s goal against Everton.

Those who say I omitted Arshavin, my learned friends might re-read the sentence that says he got 2 in 2….

But you know what I meant!

    YW

  23. Really good post YW,

Completely agree with your assessment of Almunia. A Lukic, but no Seaman.

Bernie, Almunia made lot’s of big saves last season. Shot-stopping is the one area you can’t fault him. His reaction time is very fast. Too fast when you look at the Rooney thing…

  24. The hypocrisy in this country knows no bounds – when either Rooney or Owen next dive in an England shirt you can bet your bottom dollar it will be deemed to be “clever” – Eduardo has been hung out to dry but I am impressed by the statement made by the club.

Was it last season Steven Gerrard dived to win a penalty in an important CL fixture as Liverpool were on the verge of going out? Don’t remember any clamouring for bans then – nor do I remember any shout for bans as Ronaldo dived around for the last 3 seasons.

PS – I think Almunia is ok but would like to see Arsenal eventually replace him with something better.

  25. Bernie you’re an idiot. Really.

Almunia’s game-saving saves are too numerous to count.

  26. The days of a David Seaman, I am afraid, died when he hung up his Pony tail!

He was the best keeper of his generation, forget all the hype surround Scheimchel Spunky was the best!

  27. In respect of Keepers how many better keepers are out there and available? given the type of fees were were seeing over the window i doubt we could afford anyone better. i assume Wenger feels Fabianski has what it takes to become a top keeper so perhaps its wise not to splash out big right now.

i agree not keeping clean sheets is annoying but against both Celtic and Everton the games were well and truly dead and Celtic’s goal was a total fluke, i doubt (hope!) we will concede another like that this season

  28. Those castigating Almunia for Diaby’s own goal. Diaby admitted that Almunia called on him to leave the ball. So its not the Goalkeeper’s fault.
    He called the goal ‘silly’
    Please, leave Almunia alone.

  29. There are some responsible people left who regard violence on the pitch and breaking someone’s leg more dangerous to football than diving. Mind you they’re not British. For some perspective here’s what’s happend over the weekend in Belgium.

Axel Witsel, a 20 year old Belgian International and Belgium’s latest prodigy, has been banned until Nov. 23 for his tackle this weekend against Marcin Wasilewski. The Polish international was left in agony after the collision – which resulted in a double fracture of his right leg. Witsel is missing 10 league games and at least one cup game. He also has to pay 2.500 euros. The Belgian FA will also transmit the case to the Fifa and the UEFA.

Compare that to what Taylor got for breaking Eduardo’s leg. Could you imagine a similar ban to be imposed on any English player, let alone an English International player, when the victim is a foreigner?
Well, there’s the Belgian FA and on the other hand there’s the English FA. Need I say more?

  30. Does anyone else remember the incident last season when we played Liverpool at the Emirates. Gerrard threw himself into the box to try to win a penalty, a blatant dive. The ref ignored him and Gerrard screamed “fuck offf” or something to that affect?

  31. notlager,

I am afraid you are mistaken about what happened with Eduardo and Taylor. Eduardo made the mistake of going too fast and subjecting poor Marty Taylor to the mental anguish of severing Eduardo’s foot from his leg. Arsene Wenger was also very reckless in being upset about the tackle and saying it has no place in football. As everyone knows, such a statement was much more painful to Taylor, and might have induced the tackle which led to the leg break.

You have your facts wrong. Taylor deserved no punishment. Eduardo and the frog Wenger are to blame.

  32. EFN, I think you’ll find if Diaby leaves the ball Rooney was standing behind him un-marked

  33. Nin,

Stevie G is the most cynical diver in the league. I remember that incident. He went afterwards and got into the referee’s face for not giving the penalty that wasn’t. He wasn’t booked for simulation. He wasn’t booked for dissent. It was disgraceful refereeing from Howard Webb the skinhead but that’s par for the course with that loser.

Talking of bookings for dissent. Sagna was booked on Saturday for railing against Dean’s decision to award Man poo a throwing whereas the ball OBVIOUSLY came off Nani. Rooney and Fletcher did exactly the same thing, and got no cards. What was more galling is that of the 4 incidents (2 Rooney incidents of railing at the ref), Sagna was the only one justified.

  34. I loved the fact Manure fans were booing Eddie, what a bunch of mugs, these are the same fans that idolised Ronaldo? Cocks.

  35. Eromism From Nigeria

    Diaby’s interview
    http://skysports.com/story/0, 19528, 11661_5531386,00.html

  36. I think we should all start to compile a list of all the cheating, time-wasting, bad fouls and subsequent let-offs by officials that go against us this season and share it with the FA/UEFA at the end.

  37. drew10,

    good idea.
    Here’s a site with a similar task.

    http://www.justiceforeduardo.com/

  38. nice blog. enjoyed it very much.

i would have welcomed van der vaart and matuidi but i’ll get over it. fingers crossed with injuries to song and denilson.

the city game is MASSIVE. it always was, but as you say it’s pivotal in many ways: a) because they are in good form b) we are fighting in the same bit of the table c) we need to bounce back following OT d) it sets out our momentum following the international break.

if we can grab all the points it could prove to be one of the most important league performances for years

  39. I wonder why Kamara thinks that Arsenw Wenger or Arsenal want his sympathy vote?…..Thicko!

  40. Anybody read Graham Poll’s assessment of the Rooney incident:

“Rooney – NO – This is not simulation despite Rooney’s legs crumbling before being hit. Emmanuel Almunia missed the ball completely and would have wiped Rooney out potentially causing a nasty injury.”

    http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/26204/Graham_Poll_singles_out_simulators_Eduardo_Eboue_Ballack__Torres_.aspx

So if Rooney’s legs crumbled before they were hit, may I ask WHY ???????

    LMAO

  41. Kamara is a buffoon and shouldn’t be allowed to venture any opinions by court of law.

  42. Eromism From Nigeria

    Notlager,

Your assertions shows the nature of the British media. They are a complete disgrace.
When that Argentine/Deportivo player tackled Beckham which resulted in a broken metatarsal bone before the World Cup in 2002, he was vilified. Same applied to Paulo Ferreria of Portugal/Chelsea when he tackled Rooney few years ago. But, nothing was said of Martin Taylor after he broke Eduardo’s leg.
The British media are a disgrace.

  43. Muppet,

I posted the photo yeterday that gives lie to Poll’s theory. In the photo, you see Rooney already going down. Almunia has gone for the ball and missed because Rooney had knocked it into row z. Almunia’s arms are back on the ground. Then Rooney moves his right knee to touch the side of Almunia’s hand, then both legs leave the ground.

    Picture: http://twitpic.com/g46tj

But even the logic of Poll’s comment is wrong as you point out. If Rooney was only aiming to avoid being “wiped”, then surely he should have jumped over Almunia?! We know he could have. Gallas jumped over both of them.

  44. I couldnt agree more Drew 10. Shocking Double standards prevail in the media, uefa and epl. Eufa’s insistance on metting maximum punishment on Eduardo will backfire. I fully support Wenger’s insistance that consistent punishments are metted out.Lets see If Man U are laughing when they lose to Man City to a penalty awarded after Robinho dives into the box. Fergie wont be so quiet then.

Why does Ferguson get away with criticising refs and Wenger and Benitez get charged with improper conduct. It was not so long ago Fergie tried to influence the FA by criticising the credibilty of some refs leading to a new referee being appointed for Man U games. Not long after he was at again complaining about eradicating players showing dissent to refs something that media darlings Terry, Gerrard, and Rooney are adept at, putting in some shows of dissent and ref rage that would be worthy of being placed in a straight jacket.

What happens Liverpool visit OT and Mascherano is sent off after back chatting to the ref. Rooney hurls vile abuse to refs all season and gets no card. Apparrently its a show of passion. Am I the only one that smells a rat.

  45. The Arsenal midfield break-up play as effectively as anyone else but do so through interceptions rather than crunching tackles.
    ———-
Spot on, 37 interception in the game says something, that’s 37 times we won the ball without having to risk getting a yellow card from Dean.

    http://bit.ly/JvS45

  46. It makes me sick how foreign players are treated in England compared to English players.

What is worse? Breaking a leg or diving?
Taylor, we were told, is not that kind of a player! How do they know? Do you believe the Birmingham boss comes our and tells the world that Taylor did it with purpose?

  47. I wonder why no journalist ever goes after UEFA…obviously a corrupt, bigotted organisation which appears to operate with no accountability. It is a fat bloated organisation just begging to be brought down. Why not bring it down, very publicly?

  48. Interesting that Arsenal were effectively ‘attacked’ by the Scottish FA and by UEFA. But the English FA have nothing to say on the subject. Neither has the PFA. Eduardo is being defended stoutly by the Croatian FA and I applaud them for that. But no statement from the English football establishment.

  49. I think that there is an almighty fucking storm brewing and those in high places are running for cover.

  50. G4L,

In the community shield, Ferguson went on the pitch to give the referee a bollocking just as the penalties were about to start. Leaving the respect campaign aside, that behaviour would have warranted a sending off from a serious referee. That’s a clear attempt to influence the referee while the game was still going on.

  51. Referees have been royally fucked by the Eduardo incident. Why no comment from the Referees Association? The LMA moreorless forced the Referees Association to apologise to AW after the game against the Mancs. But the Eduardo incident has far more implications for refereeing…where are these people? Have they run for cover too? Why? What do they know?

  52. Ole,

    Yes. I completely agree.

It was clear cheating by Rooney. The only difference is that he didn’t get caught, and the press have no appetite for questioning one of their own. After all, they must all have an affinity for the granny shagger shrek.

  53. …still praying for the elusive mystery camera angle mentioned on the Sunday supplement, apparently showing Eduardo getting clipped, now that would stick it up UEFA.
Failing that I fear we will have to back down and spend the rest of the season listening to “same old Arsenal always…..”, what makes the whole thing worse is that numbnuts Eboue, he’ll have 2 good games then one were he does something so stupid it ruins everything. It brings the whole club down when he falls over like he’s been done by a sniper. If UEFA decision is a disgrace then Eboue is a total disgrace!!

  54. I imagine it’s for the same reasons no journalist ever investigates the true financial situation of Liverpool or manu.

Why they don’t analyse the true reasons for the Fa’s and England’s failures at international level.

Why they prefer to repeat the infounded and shallow opinions of a few tired pundits rather than make actual informed and independent decisions.

Because they are lazy, egocentric, underqualified twats.

  55. Eromism From Nigeria

All Harry Redknapp has done as a coach all his career is to bankrupt Southampton, Portsmouth and turned West Ham to a lame duck despite their talents then. Yet, he is praised to the high heavens because he is English.
However, Arsene Wenger who has changed the face of the English game is now a devil.
Its a pity if ‘Arry can be a saint in the eyes of the media.

  56. Amazing link Wengerball. We even matched them in tackling. We had 58 to their 63. But we intercepted almost 5 times as much as they did!

We were even more effective in tackling, winning the ball 62% of the time to their 57%!

Song, Denilson and Diaby, the great slackers VS the great Fletcher, the Mighty Giggs, and the colossal Carrick.

Alan Hansen wouldn’t have seen this. Bloody moron!

  57. What are you whingeing about Massa?

We’re laying out clear facts here and you’re there moaning. What is it about fact you dont like?

  58. What a twat you are, Pete. Eboue dived and got a yellow card, happens all the time. Deep down you just don’t like him. You have to ask yourself why that might be.

This diving business is a real diversion. Diving is just a yellow card offence along with certain types of foul and as such it is no worse than any yellow cardable foul. To equate diving to ‘cheating’ and all other forms of cardable offence as not cheating is pointless. Anyone that uses the word cheat is a sanctimonious prick who more often than not is fully capable of lying about their own behaviour.

  59. Fuck off, Massa, you are way out of line.

  60. The dog turd Adrian Durham, the dark lord of Talk Shite was last night bleating that “Arsenal fans don’t get it, because Eduardo was cheating”. Er no, fuckwit, what Arsenal fans don’t get it, is how on earth, out of all the incidents witnessed between this, and the last incident flagged by UEFA, when this deception rule was brought it, that Eduardo was the next person to be made an example of. A player, who has no history of gamesmanship or cheating, has got every reason to avoid physical contact, and made no appeal for a penalty and where there is absolutely no evidence of deception. How, when we have witnessed serial divers like Drogba, Ronaldo and Torres, does Eduardo get singled it, a player I have never seen dive. This fuckwit Durham, then tried to claim that a 2 match ban “wasn’t enough”. If anybody has a good phone manner, can they please contact Talk Shite and give him some verbal abuse.

  61. Fuck off Massa. You are a fuckwit.

  62. …and what would that be, Massa, a club and supporters who do not back their players when an injustice has been perpetrated? A club of capitulators?

  63. Jerome at work, Gadget at home

Kamara may be a funny lad on Soccer Saturday, but in print he certainly is a buffoon. If his sympathy is conditional, why even bother giving it?

I found optajoe’s facts far more insightful myself: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,15964_5530011,00.html

Let’s focus on shutting Adebagob’s trap. He annoys me greatly.

  64. notlager

  65. UEFA has had legislation in place to be able to investigate incidents after the match using video evidence since 2006. They have only just chosen to use it, after being leaned on by the Scottish FA after the Celtic incident.

So I feel the reason for Wenger’s upset is not whether Eduardo made the most of the challenge or whether it was more of a dive than Rooney’s but why UEFA chose that incident to suddenly bring the rules into use after 3 years of ignoring similar incidents.

  66. TalkShite is a dinosaur. It is on borrowed time. It is deeply disrespectful to football supporters because it assumes that they are all ignorant and stupid, whereas only 95% of them are. Football is moving on, Arsenal is leading the way. English football supporters need to move on too and many are doing so. No-one with any intelligence is allowed to comment on Talk-Shite.

  67. why thanks Frank!!

No, I don’t hate Eboue deep down, I want him to improve, compete, play well and win games for us and not needlessly dive in the same week all this Eduardo shit kicks off!…hanging Wenger out to dry on live TV!!…TWAT!!
We need intelligence on the pitch not headless chickens or lazy SOB’s.
Thankfully Wenger saw fit to sell those two a few weeks back!

Consider an Arsenal without Eboue is he really in the team when everyone is fit???? I think not!

  68. Wish I hadn’t watched that.

    Thanks Kitchen Sink

  69. Kitchen Sink,

    just horrible.
But Witsel is suspended until Nov. 23. He got the punishment he deserved from the Belgian FA. What did the English FA gave for Taylor’s leg break? 3 f*cking match bans, one more than Eduardo’s ban, and declared the victim in this whole saga by the British media.
    Pathetic.

  70. On Talk Shite they probably give you a simple test when you ring in to assess your suitability. If you fail spectacularly then they will let you on.

  71. Massa is James…lol

    Hi James.

  72. Pete, are you referring to Kolo Toure as lazy or headless?

Regardless of your answer you should be very deeply ashamed.

  73. Fuck off Massa.

  74. Eduardo did not cheat and the joy you seem to get from making that statement, Massa, is illuminating.

  75. C-Bob,

The real reason England don’t do well in international levels is the culture of “we’re crap but we’ll scrap”. There is some notion that permeates our football at all levels that being willing to break the opponents leg is a superior quality to being able to take the ball off the opponent’s leg.

We don’t quote technique. We celebrate results at all cost. We deride teams who play good football.

It’s a thoroughly perverse football culture.

One of my latest observations relating to this phenomenon and how it relates to Arsenal; I have recently heard Lawro and some other guy say Arsenal are too young because Ramsey, Walcott & Wilshere are not ready yet: Decoded, they’re saying it’s the British players that count. It’s an amazingly blighted point of view.

  76. Massa, how’s Luka?

    And Niko Krancjar is sh*t

  77. Jerome at work, Gadget at home

Massa, think before you type. Players celebrate whenever they or their team get awarded a penalty all the time; whether that penalty is awarded with or without deception.

Why should you expect Eduardo to lay there sullen face when he’s given the squad the opportunity to go 1-0 up?

In anycase, it seems to me regarding penalties, contact really shouldn’t be the deciding matter. Given penalties are given to disavdantage the defending team for making bad challenge, it seems rather unfair to disadvantaging the attacking team for having a player ride or dodge that same bad challenge. In fact didn’t a EPL ref given a penalty a week or two back in this very instance?

  78. Ole

For every save Almunia has made I can quote you an error. His save % this season is 67% (courtesy Opta). That means he concedes one goal for every three shots on target faced.

Every season he has been here it has been worse than Cech and van der Sar and even the likes of Schwarzer last year.

Add to that the fact that he shits his pants every time he has to come out – remember the goals conceded at Stoke last season, v Portsmouth this.

The fella is a liability and the fact we conceded almost 50% more goals than United, Chelsea and Liverpool tells it’s own story.

  79. Beware everyone – Massa is a troll. He is James.

  80. Talk Shite and that tosspot Durham can ram their fucking views up their fucking arses. The guy is the biggest twat I have ever had the mis-fortune to listen to, the self proclaimed god of football knowledge is a moron with the worst anti-Arsenal agenda ever.

If I want to listen to bigoted, sexist childlike drivel I will go and but a copy of the sun and get someone to read it aloud to me!

  81. Yes I am sure you are right, Moopay. But it is useful to have these bounders around from time to time.

  82. In case anyone had not guessed, Massa was indeed James….

    YW

  83. Massa,

You have half a point. It’s more than just football. It’s a culture of mediocrity and stupidty. People like you drive me crazy with your complete nonsense that has nothing to do with the real world.

    Bernie,

“the fact we conceded almost 50% more goals than United, Chelsea and Liverpool” tells us Cesc is crap. Afterall he plays in the same team. Your comment isn’t too clever.

Seriously, Almunia was at fault for at most 3 goals all of last season. This season he has been at fault for 1 goal.

  84. Krancher is average at best. He shone playing in a below average team, for a season. His goals come from speculative Lampardesque lumps through crowded boxes. His is MOR and will fit in nicely at Middle of the Lane. He will be used as Modric cover and be rightly benched upon his return…

But I was only winding James up.

  85. Ah! I can understand your confusion, Ole

When I said that “Because they are lazy, egocentric, underqualified twats.”, I was talking about journailists.

I can see why you thought I was talking about England players though.

  86. And Thomas Vermealen will be buy of the season.

  87. Ole

We scored as many as Man Utd. Does that mean Almunia is a great attacker because he plays in the same team? I make a rational point backed by facts, you come back with an idiotic comment.

He was at fault for the Portsmouth goal and the Man Utd penalty – I make that two. Add that to the idiocy in Hungary.

Last season – the second goal v Stoke was his fault. He fucked up for three goals at home v Spurs. He was at fault for the goal at Chelsea by chucking the ball out for a quick break only to one of their players, Ronaldo’s free kick in the CL – I could go on, but I think I’ve proved my point. Yes, with facts.

  88. C-Bob,

I was talking about the pundits and journalists too.

The media are at the heart of much of what’s wrong. Much as you said, really.

  89. Bernie, you are a knob. You cherry pick goalie mistakes, which by their definition are going to almost always be goals, and don’t mention the good and vital stops Almunia has made. Of course no one remembers the saves because everyone expects them from a goalie. It’s just the mistakes that vultures like you make note of and then use to make your ill-conceived points.

  90. Bernie,

My comment was idiotic, but was so only to mock the idiocy of yours which you’d made in all seriousness. Dear sir, I was obviously paraphrasing your comment making a similarly specious conclusion on very general evidence.

    Logic.

Almunia was directly responsible for just a couple of the goals we conceded last season. He saved at least 10 results if not more with fatastic saves.

Blaming him for the whole team’s defensive problems in conceding goals is moronic at worst, shallow at best.

  91. Gris Cris – then name them.

The whole point is he makes big errors in key moments of big games, as opposed to top keepers like VDS, Cech and Seaman who made far fewer.

I’m not saying it’s easy to find a world-class keeper. I’m saying it’s easier to find someone better than Almunia. Schwarzer was on a free transfer last summer and he had a better sve% than Almunia – as did all the keepers at the top teams. Man Utd have three better keepers than Arsenal!

  92. I agree with Gris Gris, you could make a shit list like that on Cech, Reina, anyone.

Buffon he is not, Casillas he is not, but Almunia is easily the equal of many GKs his doubters would replace him with.

If anyone suggests Rob Green again I’ll despair.

  93. Ole – I’m not blaming him for all the defensive problems. Just highlighting that he was responsible for more goals conceded than his counterparts. And he was directly responsible for at least half a dozen that I mentioned just from brief recollection. I’m sure there are more.

A couple of decent saves v Man Utd in the first leg of CL do not a great keeper make.

  94. I’d have a better save % than Almunia if I played for Fulham.

Inviting teams on to you produces many more opportunities to make saves and fatten this percentage up that you’re so fond of.

  95. LimparAssist – Are our ambitions that low? That we’re content he’s the equal of some mid-table Premier League club’s keeper. How sad.

And if you can make an error list on all keepers in the last season like that, then do it.

Find six examples, not just sweeping statements with no basis in fact.

  96. Bernie

Can you provide an analysis that compares the errors of the PL goalkeepers which led directly to goals last season? I’ll settle for the top four teams. That way, we can all look at it and decide whether your argument is based in logic or not.

    Cheers

    YW

  97. ‘Man Utd have three better keepers than Arsenal!’

    Preposterous.

Wowcheque Schnezzknee will become twice the keeper Ben Foster is, and five times the keeper Rob Green is.

  98. ‘Are our ambitions that low?’

You’re the one that mentioned Mark Schwarzer.

  99. LimparAssist – Arsenal allowed 3.8 shots on target per game and Fulham 4.6 against them per match – so wrong again!

  100. LimparAssist – Used Schwarzer to highlight the fact than even a free tansfer reject from Boro had a better save % than Almunia last season. So to say, we couldn’t improve on Almunia is bullshit.

  101. Bernie,

    You have highlighted nothing.

You’ve attributed mistakes to him that he didn’t make. Stoke goal, was Toure’s fault and to be fair to Toure, he was being held down by Fuller. It was a foul.

The throw against Chelsea led to an own goal, but if I remember correctly, the ball actually went to Nasri, and it was Nasri who lost the ball to Bosingwa.

To call those goalkeeping errors is stretching it IMO. Yes he was responsible for 2 of the goals against Spurs. In one match.
    +
He saved the game against Spurs with a fantastic save in the last minute on Modric. He saved the game against Roma in the CL. He saved against Villareal away, against I dont remember who. He saved against Wigan away when we were already 1 goal down. These all saved vital points.

I can’t even count the number of times when he rushed out to clear after the centre backs had been beaten.

Seriously, do you watch football or do you just go through the Arsenal squad list looking for pet scapegoats?

  102. Why are you posting a link to that site, Sixtay? Trying to get the fucker more hits. You really are a silly man.

  103. Bernie, I’m not much with stats, but doesn’t yours show Fulham allowing more shots on goal per match, than Arsenal?

Thus giving Schwarzer more to do than Almunia, and bumping his save %?

But my point about being the Arsenal keeper, between the posts for a team that press so high, is that when chances do come, you can get left hung out to dry. Playing behind Fulham and box full of bodies, when chances come, they are often far tamer beasts to deal with.

  104. I suspect Sixtay is James as well.

  105. Bernie,

I don’t have to. Every game Arsenal won by one goal, using your logic, can be attributed to Almunia if he made a save in that game. Every game Arsenal won by two goals, using your logic, can be attributed to Almunia if he made two saves, every draw Arsenal made, using your logic, can be attributed to Almunia if he made a save. It’s a silly path to go down because the keeper is always, if you want, either the saviour or the villian. Since you choose to focus on the villian aspect I will label you a doomer.

Sixtay is a silly bunt, isn’t he?

  106. frank…would u read it first? Read now, bash later!

  107. Ole – The Fuller goal was the 1st goal.

Am a season ticket holder and see all Arsenal games home and away.

You’re running out of ways to try to undermine me.

Can’t recall most of your suggestions. My recollection was of beating Wigan 4-1 not of a game-saving stop and of Baptista missing an open goal, plus Almunia accidentaly saving one out of 8/9 pens in the shoot out.

Anyway, it’s a pointless argument as our views don’t matter. If Wenger thinks he’s good enough, then that’s that, but we’ll never win anything with him in goal in my view.

  108. LimparAssist A save % is based on saves made against total shots faced so having less than one save extra per match does not boost his save %. It’s a percentage not a total. Basic maths.

  109. I didn’t really know the state of general opinion towards myles palmer was a bad one. But You must admit the man makes some valid points, however negative they are. I said you’d like it cos this, bizarrely, is NOT so negetive, as per usual.

    Just give it a try!

    http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=1380&cntnt01origid=30&cntnt01returnid=42

  110. Sixtay, Palmer is a Chelsea fan and nothing he writes is of any interest to Arsenal fans.

  111. Bernie,

There were countless times that Almunia saved the result. That you don’t remember those and you so value your damning opinion of him despite that omission, shows its not a matter of opinion.

Here’s a Youtube compilation of some of the game-saving saves I talked about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85jiPFqabhM

    There are so many more.

Bernie, I am not a season ticket holder but I do go to a few games, and watch every game at least twice.

  112. Last season Almunia was great, there are no two ways about it. Yes, he had a few bad games, but so did Petre Cech & Reina, and every single other goal keeper for that matter.
He came into his own, it was as if all of a sudden you could feel his ‘presence’ on the pitch.

The ‘presence’ is sadly missing thus far this season, i wonder whether he’s 100% fit, or his mind is elsewhere… who knows?

  113. “Palmer is a Chelsea fan”

ha ha…You’re better of saying he’s overly frustrated arsenal fan. If he was a chelsea fan he would have at least mentioned them in more detail. He has little intrest in it IMO!

  114. Selective quoting of stats does you no good Bernie. Why not quote the full year figures for last season, rather than the first 3 games of this season (hardly a representative number).

For last season Almunia was no. 4 amongst all keepers and 2nd amongst the top 4 for shots stopped %.

  115. HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY READ THE BLOG???

    YW,

I trust you don’t let anything get past you. Tell me what you think about it!

  116. Before the season began Sky reviewing the leagues top shot stoppers, had almunia at 4th in the leagues shots to save ratio last season, with reina not even featuring .. At the end of this season all the scorn for our great players from our fickle fans shall be forgotten..

The struggle continues… Victory is certain..

  117. ‘so having less than one save extra per match does not boost his save %’

Yes it does. Having 0.8 of a shot extra to stop each game, add those all up, Schwarzer saves 67% of them (or whatever it was) and bang, up goes his save percentage. Basic maths.*

*DISCLAIMER may not actually add up. I am maths autistic.

F*ck maths anyway. Almunia is a very good goalkeeper.

  118. I remember when United went on that streak of 14 clean sheets everyone was hailing the great Van der Sar how good he was to keep so many clean sheets.

The guy did have a save to make, Actually the opposition had 19 shots on target during that spell, you can only guess how many of those shots were actually threatening to score.

I am not claiming Almunia to be “world class” but he has saved our skins much more than he has cost us games.

We remember the long range shot that scores, but easily forget the 1 on 1 chances he foiled.

  119. im realy quite positive re the season. I know its early days yet but apart from chelsea i have yet to see much from anyone else, and even then i expect their pace maker batteries to need re-charging by new year. Im looking forward to the opportunity of giving man city a footballing lesson. We dont spend that much compared to most so for me its about defending our policies and our style of play. Almunia makes mistakes, opf course he does , but so does evry keeper. If it is true (and i dont know if it is) that he makes more mistakes in the big games then thats not about ability is it. still in my opinion we have a very good chance of silver ware this season, fingers crossed we all stay fit, including me.

  120. God Bless SAINT Eduardo!!!

  121. ASNLthruNthru

history tells us that saints are fated to a grotesque and violent death..

  122. If you’ve not done this before, it’s quite fun.

Read sixtay in the voice of Peter Sellers’ Dr Strangelove.

    Mein Führer! I can walk!

  123. New season: not much changes.

ManU are allowed to kick us off the park when we play them at OT.

Their players commit foul after foul with no yellows and we get a yellow for our first foul.

Arsenal manage to lose a game they dominated. Well done on playing ManU off the park though boys and without Cesc to boot. How good was Song?

We don’t get the most balatant penalty, perhaps ever and they get a soft one where Rooney was already on the floor before any “contact”.

AW promises signings but doesn’t make them. We are one injury away from Silvestre. Djourou is not ready yet and Phil too error-prone. Who will replace Song when he goes to the ACN?

I like this team and injury-free I believe we can challenge but I fear that the lack of a couple of players could hurt us. The team has grown noticibly since last season though and does not have the callowness of before. Most of the players are ready. Do we enough of them though?

Mike Dean is a c*** and he better hope I never, ever see him ….

I think the 4-3-3 suits the midfielders but at the expense of the stikers. RvP is never a lone frontman and AA is wasted on the left. RvP should be dropped for Eddy, AA should play in his best position of number 10 when we get some wingers back and can play 4-4-2 again.

AA is by far the best player in this attack and it should be built around him.

  124. fingers crossed

  125. bored by internationals, here’s a good read on the diamond formation employed by chelski, it’s history, and how to counter it.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/aug/25/the-question-diamond-tactics-jonathan-wilson

  126. AIC, pretty decent assessment. Can we cope with what we got? i hope so obviously. Im not too concirned with song at african cup as i think we have two opr three players who can fill the void, central defence would be more of a worry for me, but in the same breath there is in all possibillity the risk of having no injurie probs in key areas, i guess we hwill have to wait and see, i dont see us being at a huge disadvantage to other clubs

  127. Fuck off, AIC

  128. !!!EVERYONE SEEMS TO BE IGNORING MY POINT!!!

SERIOUSLY MYLES PALMER ACTUALLY WROTE A PRO ARSENAL POST!!!!
    DAMMIT….YOU GUYS ARE SO STUBBORN!

  129. i cant stand no football ontelly, no arsenal tv, i miss the young guns and reserves a club as big as ours deserves its own channel, more revenue buy season tv ticket.

  130. Frank you are a complete cunt.

For someone who goes to so many games you know fuck all apart from “we will win the Prem this year, no next year, no next year.”

You sound like a bitter Lpoo fan.

I am not even convinced you faith is real

  131. laughing out loud!

  132. AIC,

If the team has grown noticeably, what makes you think big Phil and Johan haven’t grown exponentially?

Surely a spell at Milan next to Maldini and Nesta, if only on the training pitch, is reason enough to assume progress will have been made by big Phil.

  133. boomer,

I agree, the quality is there. I am just a be concerd about numbers in defence.

  134. Limpar,

I hope you are right. Maybe Phil can fulfill his early potentioal and Djourou can step up. I am not ruling it out but would have liked another CB.

  135. @Gris gris: what’s funny?

  136. Frank you are a complete c8nt.

For someone who goes to so many games you know fu8k all apart from “we will win the Prem this year, no next year, no next year.”

You sound like a bitter Lpoo fan.

I am not even convinced you faith is real.

  137. Does Eddy receive a ban in first couple of games in the group stages?? Or elsewhere?

  138. …………..AIC IS A PARASITE…………….

  139. Maria,

He misses Olympiakos and Standard Liege

  140. And so Denilson signs a long term deal with the club – GREAT NEWS!!!

The doubters among you will be biting into a nice slice of humble pie come May… the kid is superb.

  141. only way i can read comments

  142. AIC,

    “I like this team”

WTF……..I mean seriously why watch or pretend to support if that’s how you feel?

  143. @ LA

But, but……..without him we are one step away from Bentdner!!!

  144. Sixtay,

People here don’t want to read Myles Palmer.

I read it. And he finished with the ludicrous claim that Wilshere would be playing if he was French. That was an extremely ludicrous point.

Myles Palmer is a gangrene on Arsenal.

  145. AIC, again i agree, however i think we give too much creedance to others squads. I dont know if its an Arsenal thing or not, but i notice that people (not here) go over the top because someone has signed this or that player. Ive watched senderos str4uggle aginst certain players but i also think that that could be just a tactical error because i remember in our C/L run up to thr final Sendy p[layed brilliant, good enmough for 1st team spot, no, domestic cup/so called lesser prem teams, yes

  146. Maria,

Any (worthwhile) thoughts from you for the season?

    No, obviously.

  147. AIC writes a thoughtful, albeit opinionated post, and immediately gets told to fuck off, without addressing any of the content. Not very sporting.

With Limpar, I expect Phil to be far better, and Djourou was already my preferred choice last year bc Gallas/Toure was a horrible pairing. I’m fine with us at CB.

A 4-3-3 is NOT a 4-5-1, so I don’t know what you mean by “lone striker”. RvP has done everything but score…lots and lots of chances created for himself and others. Also, the it’s the 433 that has led to the phenomenal number of midfield interceptions…the oppo’s back four can never get comfortable on the ball.

  148. As Luke says earlier, the Eduardo suspension is easily rotated around with Eduardo playing in the intermittent Prem fixtures.

I’m hoping Vela’s fit by then too.

Denilson and Nikky B sign new contracts!

  149. The hack dwarf stated two years ago on ANR that he was not an Arsenal supporter. He also stated that he originally used to frequent Chelski and QPR. His interest in Arsenal was really only an interest in promoting his book about AW. A work of almost complete fiction. He has used the clubs name to create an income for himself. My advice is that steer clear of the poisonous little twat.

  150. I love the shot of Deni hanging in the air having tumped the ball past Howard. Swooooosh

  151. myles palmer is a strange man, its obviouse he is an angry man, why, i dont know. He might believe that he is being a realist i dont know, what is strange is that it is an advert for Arsenal fc. it is an Arsenal review. It is unusual to promote a team mearly to satisfy anger, why have a friend if all you want to do is beat them up. i suspect its nothing deeper than attension grabbing as myles appears to be as shallow as a puddle in the desert

  152. On the contrary, nolagunner, we have had a great deal of sport with AIC.

  153. Wenger didnt promise any mors signings, he said if he finds players that will strengthen the team he would do it but not for the sake of numbers.

Central Defenders – TV, Gallas, Senderos, Djourou, Silvestre (sixtay will be puking) plus song can drop back if need be. How many players do some Arsenal fans want in one team?

The Mid is stacked as is the forward line!

We are deep enough and the quality goes without saying!

    Be blessed!!

  154. @ AIC

AW promises signings but doesn’t make them.

We signed a defender called Thomas Vermaelen. He is rather good, apparently.
Wenger said he would sign one or two players. He has signed one player.

We are one injury away from Silvestre. Djourou is not ready yet and Phil too error-prone. Who will replace Song when he goes to the ACN?

If AW wanted another midfielder and couldn’t get one, he will be putting plan B into action. If he didn’t want one, then he must have confidence in his Song backup players – Denilson, Senderos or Djourou. I would guess. If Arsene thinks the last two are ready, I’m happy with that. And better yet, they can both do what Song does and slot in comfortably at CB when required. We’ve hardly seen either of them this time round, even in preseason, so you can’t make such an absolute judgement. I’ll remind you that last season you wrote off a long list of players as not Arsenal quality, who have somehow magically become Arsenal quality in the intervening months. Incidentally, we have seen quite a lot of Silvestre, and to me at least he looks better than last year.

There’s no law that says all, or most of, the goals have to be scored by strikers. Your criticism of the 4-3-3 (4-2-3-1) ignores the fact that we now look so much more solid defensively as well as posing an even more potent attacking threat. 4-4-2 is traditional, but not eternally the best formation. Things have changed – different players, different game, different opposition tactics. In any case, Wenger has said he will adapt the formation to suit whoever is available, so we might well see 4-4-2 from time to time.

Robin has a difficult job at the centre of the attack, but he is coping. He always starts slowly, remember? He just needs his first goal to go in. Robin can hold up the ball and Bendtner or Diaby can play the target man role.

We are posing unusual and difficult problems for the opposition. More evidence of innovation and imagination from Wenger.

  155. I was joking LA…

  156. Frank, didnt know palmer wasnt a fan, there you have it.

  157. Yes and RVP lack of scoring has been due to the cross bar and an amazing save, however lets not forget some of his great assists.

I for one wouldnt care if Gallas was our top scorer as long as we win.

All the goals we have scored proves that our system is effective irregardless of who is putting it in the net.

    ARSENAL!

  158. Limparassist, can you tell me the situation with Carlos

  159. Boomer,

Just a few days ago, he said again that he’s not an Arsenal fan. Why would you make a career out of writing crap about a club you’re not even a fan of?

At least Alan Hansen and Jamie Redknapp get to extend their shite-spewing to other teams as well.

  160. I agree with FG.

  161. I predict we will win every single cup, every single game, never concead another goal, ever, and I will marry my true love

  162. So do I, Maria.

Delighted to see that Denilson and Nic have signed new long-term contracts.

We are going to win the league this seson.

    …..Arsenal….

  163. YOU GUYS SEEM EXTREMELY ADEPT IN IGNORING ANYTHING ANTI-ARSENAL AT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST!

SOMETIMES, KNOWING YOUR WEAKNESSES IS THE FIRST STEP TO ADDRESSING THEM. IS IT A COINCIDENCE THAT LAST SEASONS TWO BOTTOM TEAMS OF THE TOP FOUR ARE PLAYING ARGUABLY THE BEST FOOTBALL THIS SEASON? DOES THE EXPONENTIAL GROWTH IN ARSENAL’S GAME REALLY HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WAY THEY WERE BASHED FROM ALL ANGLES, MEDIA AND FAN ALIKE.

MAN U AND LIVERPOOL ARE FAILING TO ADDRESS THEIR ISSUES AT THE MOMENT, PROBABLY DUE TO THE COMPLACENCY CAUSED BY WINNING LAST SEASONS TITLE. LIVERPOOL PROBABLY, ASSUMED THAT THEIR AMAZING FORM AT THE END OF LAST SEASON WOULD BE AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFERED TO THIS SEASON.

I’VE HEARD YOU ALL PREMATURELY DECLARE ARSENAL WINNERS OF THE PREM TITLE THIS SEASON. SOME HAVE EVEN GONE ON TO MENTION WINNING THE UCL. BUT PLEEEEAAAAASSEEE DON’T FORGET THAT THINGS CAN CHANGE, FAST.

OUR COMPLACENCY IN THE SECOND HALF ALLOWED MAN U COME BACK INTO THE GAME. IF WE CONTINUE IN THIS PATTERN OF IGNORING OUR WEAKNESSES, MUCH OF WHICH IS GLARINGLY POINTED OUT BY THE LIKES OF LE GROVE AND MYLES PALMER, WE MIGHT REAP THE FRUIT OF IT WHEN WE MISS OUT YET AGAIN!

SO DON’T TELL ME MYLES PALMER IS NOT AN ARSENAL FAN WHEN HE NOTICES AS MUCH ARSENAL RELATED ISSUES AS YOU. I’M TIRED OF GETTING MY HOPES DASHED, AND YOU ALL SEEM TO BE SETTING YOURSELVES ALL FOR A GREAT FALL!

WE CAN STILL GET BETTER, BUT TO DO THAT WE NEED TO ALSO ADDRESS OUR WEAKNESSES ALONG WITH OUR STRENGTH, HOPE AND YET BE CAUTIOUS.

    Sixtay!!

  164. …and who or what is your true love, boomer?

  165. I certainly won’t be reading that post, Sixtay.

  166. um…chill…

  167. Ole Gunner. I dont know, I guess hes one of those people who has no passion in life, just resentment, or he wants to get rich. i read it once by accident. I think its takes more hard work to support than slag. Does anyone know what he looks like

  168. “WE CAN STILL GET BETTER, BUT TO DO THAT WE NEED TO ALSO ADDRESS OUR WEAKNESSES ALONG WITH OUR STRENGTH, HOPE AND YET BE CAUTIOUS.”

Sixtay, thank God we have a brilliant manager in Wenger who will take care of any weaknesses in the team.

I would also like to say that the players have also matured which has made a difference in the play of the team. All the unfortunate situations over the last few years have unified the squad and they will achieve great things this season.

    ARSENAL!!

  169. LimparAssist – Save % is the percentage of saves made.

Saves divided by total shots faced.

If one makes 4 saves from 5 shots and another makes 8 saves from 10 shots, they’re both 80%. The number of saves makes no difference.

Ole – You Tube? You’ll be giving me Championship manager stats next to prove he’s good.

I’m bored now. If you don’t agree, you don’t agree. Doesn’t mean I’m wrong.

  170. Frank, she is the one who i would miss a game for

  171. Funny how the blog is picking up now that we have lost.

  172. Bernie,

I remember countless game-saving saves from Almunia. How on earth did you miss them? What were you watching?

  173. Sometimes people don’t want to talk about what interests me too…as an adult you should be aware that this sometimes happens…

As far as getting your hopes up…

    Well, that’s what fans do.

  174. f*** off Bernie….you really are a bore….!!

  175. Denilson gets new contract. JUSTICE!

Take that Denilson haters. Eat dust!

  176. Maria, what do you mean ?

  177. Arsene on Denilson

“Denilson’s contribution to the Club last season was outstanding. His work rate really was exceptional and it is valuable to have players that we know will perform to the very last minute in such a demanding league. I’m pleased that he has committed his long-term future to the Club. ”

  178. What is this magic force that sixtay wants us all to collectively direct?

  179. “I certainly won’t be reading that post, Sixtay.”

Suit yourself…you have ur reasons i’m sure. I too want to be optimistic, but I always prefare caution to blind hope.

  180. Let’s have a toast for our darling Denny worth every penny IMO.

  181. Bragging Rights Ltd

    It’s the caps.

  182. Cb, no idea but it has me falling out of my chair with laughter.

  183. Mean when Boomer?

  184. Can you imagine Denilson, Song and Diaby in another 2 years.

    We have a great team!

    Congrats Denilson, well deserved!

  185. Maria – charming. I love forums like these where reasonsed debate is king. Still you know you’ve won the argument when people resort to insults. Time to stop slumming.

  186. Paul N,

“Sixtay, thank God we have a brilliant manager in Wenger who will take care of any weaknesses in the team.”

Wenger can be absolutely brilliant at times. but Don’t forget he makes his fare share of mistakes. He could have spotted flamini’s potential early and tied him to a contract, HE DIDN’T. So though he’s brilliant, he’s still capable of making mistakes. Don’t be quick to brand him a genius, cause you’ll be just as quick to brand him a FOOL if thing go horribly wrong(And they can under wenger, as monaco can testify whe they were sitting 14th in the Ligue 1 after dominating previously). Sometime, wenger can get it wrong!

  187. Barca have ALREADY begun the Cesc to Spain in December talk…they have no shame.

  188. Well said boomer at 4:13pm, Paul N at 4:14pm
    and….too right, Maria at 4:16pm!

    ****

    @ Sixtay.

Posters whose opinion I trust have read the ANR article and rubbished it. I haven’t read it, because I’ve read his efforts several times in the past and I found his style dull, self-regarding and pompous, and his content biased, trite and unreliable. So I won’t be bothering with him again.

Addressing the team’s weaknesses is the job of the coaching staff. As fans, pretty much our only way to make the team perform better is to roar them on. If you want to debate what you see as our weaknesses, that’s up to you. But don’t confuse the two different activities.

  189. Nasir Jones-Nasri

    Frank is a fucking legend.

What a delirious twat you are AIC. Calling for one of Arsenal’s most talented and loyal players to be dropped. You stupid prick.

  190. sixtay, i understand where your coming from but your claim that we were complacent against mu is imo completely off the mark. we were unfortunate, it happens but it doesnt happen consistently as did some of our defending last season where we were a bit inconsistant, arsen said so himself. We play an attacking game, we could be one nil up, down to eight men against any team in the c/l final and we would still come out looking for a goal, you call it complacency, i call it excitement . The man u game was one of those things. You cant compare us to last season no more than you can compare yourself to when you were a teenager (appologies if you still are) players change very quickly when there young so im told, i realy believe that mentaly we are improved. im not sure of much but of this i am

  191. Maria, sorry yeah, I got your mocking tone, appreciated it, but couldn’t join the frivolity as I instantly started thinking how unjust the whole thing is.

Boomer, I think AW said 2 weeks for Carlos to train again, last week. If memory serves.

Bernie, ah ok. Thanks. Still, Almunia is one of the top four goalkeepers in the best league in the world. Regardless of Mark Schwarzer’s save percentage. Most shots against Mark Schwarzer come dribbling through a sea of bodies anyway. We will win the league with Manuel in goal.

And then we’ll win it again with Wowcheque Schezzknee in goal. And Ben Foster will be the next Richard Wright.

sixtay, Mein Fuhrer, I can walk!

  192. No charm here love…were straight to the point.

  193. “What is this magic force that sixtay wants us all to collectively direct?”

Its better to find ways to help arsenal WIN other than hoping or predicting that we will win the prem. I focus on that!

  194. Maria, it was at.. 4.16

  195. have to go now, the rains so hard i cant hear myself talk, keep the faith

  196. Maria, please tell me tomorrow

  197. @ LimparAssist

    “Wowcheque Schezzknee”

    lol
I’m going to call him that from now on – beats trying to spell his name!

  198. If general opinion points out the good when we’re playing bad to our players, they should get encouraged to perform better. When general opinion points out the bad when our players are performing well, The probably won’t rest on their laurels.

THAT’S WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY!
    Sixtay.

  199. Oh dear.
He’s off again, folks. Just don’t catch his eye.

  200. Who is this General Opinion you talk of sixtay?

Himmell! Too the Doomsday device!! Schnell!!

  201. Hahahahahahaha…haaaaarrhhhhaaaaaaaaa….pfffft

    Tsssssssss…hahahahahahahahahahaha.

  202. don’t let the door hit you on the way out…

  203. Btw, I have seen the hack dwarf, that is why I call him the hack dwarf.

  204. Who is this General Opinion you talk of sixtay?

The average stand point of the fans. If everyone thinks Arsenal is poor, odds are they’ll do EVERYTHING in their power to prove them wrong!

  205. “don’t let the door hit you on the way out…”

    Who?

  206. Frank…lol…wait. what’s so funny?

  207. Or more to the point FG and LimparAssists responses to you

  208. Dr Sixtay,

That’s the most ridiculous proposition I ever heard.

So we’re meant to close our eyes really tight and think nasty thoughts until some self-help fantasy zeitgeist picks up on it and the team comes good?

What happened to supporting your team through thick and thin? Fortunately as an Arsenal fan, thick very much outweighs the thin.

Especially it seems in your case.

  209. Sixtay, like many others on here I will call Wenger a genius and look to fans like myles palmer and those of your ilk to label him a fool when we loose a game..

“It’s a special time to be part of this Club and I’m delighted to have signed a new long-term deal”

    Neves you star

  210. “That’s the most ridiculous proposition I ever heard.”

Ridiculous and yet u refer to me as “Dr.” Sixtay

“So we’re meant to close our eyes really tight and think nasty thoughts until some self-help fantasy zeitgeist picks up on it and the team comes good?”

After thinking, you could give ur opinion. No-one said It should be nasty thought. If you, by chance, come up with a good idea, and someone of importance casually browsing through blogs, or being a fan of ACLF, could pick it up and relate it to the manager. Catch my drift?

“What happened to supporting your team through thick and thin? Fortunately as an Arsenal fan, thick very much outweighs the thin.”

I AM SUPPORTING MY TEAM. And I’d rather arsenal delivered more thick than thin consistently. yes the thick outweigh the thin at the moment, but how sure are you it will last. Knowing Arsenal, I’m not so sure, considering some niggling issues like injuries, inconsistency, and I risk saying it, a tad of immaturity overall.

Please don’t get me wrong, if you can help in anyway, why not give it a try?

What’s the worst that could happen?

  211. I am going to section myself instead of coming on here, i reckon there would be less loon’s that way.

  212. “Sixtay, like many others on here I will call Wenger a genius and look to fans like myles palmer and those of your ilk to label him a fool when we loose a game..”

    What’s wrong with doing both?

    That’s how I…emm….how d’you say…keep perspective!

  213. It’s gotten a bit quiet! how come?

  214. hypocrisy

  215. It’s “Voychyec’h SSSchewsneh”

  216. KS I assure u I’m no hypocrite. Others who know me on this blog, Alex, and LimparAssist are a few, should know that. I think an overly positive standpoint is just as harmful to an overly negative one.

  217. Fun,

AW said he would sign someone if Ade left. Ade left we didn’t sign anyone.

I did not write off so many players who I thought were not “Arsenal standard” I said some players were not ready. The one player I said was not of sufficient quality was Eboue.

I am not saying the 4-4-3 is without merit – merely that it benefit the midfield and perhaps defenece at the expense of the strikers. Maybe it can work – we shall see. I think Vermaelen looks like a great signing and I think he has also improved the defence.

My issue is that AA is the best player we have signed since Pires in 2000. He is so good that I believe that he should play in his best position – number 10 and we will have an awesome attack. AW thinks we can achieve more with 4-3-3 but this is at AA’s expense and to extent RvP’s and Bendtner’s as they then play out of position.

I think AA will be much better a number 10 and consequently so will the team.

  218. AIC

We have started the season brightly, without a signing as a replacement for Adebayor.

At Christmas, AW can review the performances of RVP, Eduardo, AA, Bendtner, Walcott and Vela and should he come to the conclusion that he needs another forward, can sign Marouane Chamakh for a minimal fee, or on a free in the summer.

  219. Sixtay,

I don’t know your opinions as I have barely scanned the comments today but you should be free to air them whether others like it or not.

  220. Just a thought…..

  221. Matt,

Agreed. I would have liked another CB and or DCM. We could get Chamakh on a free but he will take time to settlee.

We only have 1 true centre forward and that’s Eddy.

  222. It’s “Voychyec’h SSSchewsneh”

True, but that’s not as funny…

  223. Check out optajoe on Twitter – Robert Green player of the month LOL.

  224. I could see the merits in another central midfield player Alex, but on current form, would a new signing get in the team?

We could of been risking another Diarra situation with someone wanting to leave at Xmas as they were not playing.

We have started so well, AW may well be thinking of strenghtening in January if he needs to.

  225. Sistay you said:
“Don’t be quick to brand him a genius, cause you’ll be just as quick to brand him a FOOL if thing go horribly wrong”

Please speak for yourself, I will say if I think Wenger made a bad decision but all men make bad decisions regardless of how brilliant they are in their specific field. I will not be calling him a FOOL but by that statement i can clearly see that you will but keep that to yourself, please.

So we should say our team is crap so that they can prove us wrong? should we then go to the stadium and boo all match long in order for them to try to prove us wrong? please explain.

You can have an opinion all you want but people will have an opinion about your opinion and if they deem it madness, which this is, they will say so.

It is said it takes 7 positives to recover from one negative. It is the manager and coaches that should deal with the players and not the fans. The same way you wouldnt want the whole school telling your child that they are not doing well in a certain subject but you would expect the teacher to do their job while you assist at home.

May I ask, what on earth you are complaining about anyway, as we have been great so far.

A miserable husband ask his wife to make two egge, one fried and one scrambled. His wife brought the eggs to him, he started shaking his head and said “I knew it, you fried the wrong egg!”

Some of complain and find fault no matter what!

Stop complaining (opinionating) and support the team.

Its old and tiring, believe me it is!

  226. geez, didnt mean to be so long!

  227. paul n well said I particularly liked the egg analogy..

  228. Great posts, though, Paul N – long or short!

    ****

    @ AIC

AW said he would sign someone if Ade left. Ade left we didn’t sign anyone.

As I understood it, he said he would be interested in Marouane Chamakh, but only if Adebayor left. Having said that, and going by the reports of the negotiations, I would not be at all surprised to see Chamakh joining us on a free or for tuppence this January or next summer. But Wenger doesn’t have to buy a player, even if he said he wanted to, and he doesn’t have to replace like with like. We are not exactly struggling to score goals, so why is it a big deal anyway?

I did not write off so many players who I thought were not “Arsenal standard” I said some players were not ready. The one player I said was not of sufficient quality was Eboue.

I’m afraid that is not true. According to you, we had one world class player (Cesc) one or two good ones (RvP was one of them) and most of the rest were “not good enough”. Anyone who thought they they lacked experience, but could and would improve, was “deluded”.

“I think AA will be much better a number 10 and consequently so will the team.”

Cearly Wenger thinks differently and on past evidence, he is more likely to be right than you are.

Last season, you wanted Wenger to build everthing around Cesc, do everything Cesc wanted – even down to buying David Villa because Cesc rated him as a top midfielder. If Wenger had built the team around Cesc alone, now that Arshavin has superseded Cesc as your favourite player, he’d have to rebuild the team around AA.
And then, knowing our luck, some Matthew Taylor wannabe would then go and break AA’s leg.

  229. Apparantly Rooney is clever and Eduardo is a cheat.

  230. And regarding AA’s and RvP’s positions, Wenger might change everything around if he feels it isn’t working – but he’s got every right to try anything, any formation, which he thinks will give us an advantage. The obvious way of doing things isn’t always the best way.

  231. “Apparantly Rooney is clever and Eduardo is a cheat.”

It turns your stomach, doesn’t it?

  232. Top comment Paul N.

  233. Top comment FunGunner

  234. Lot of SHOUTING going on…. yes, you Sixtay.
Please…this is a gentle place for learned folks and you FUCKED UP MY HEARING-AID!

  235. FG,

It turns more then my stomach. Im absolutely appalled as any gooner is at the way Eds has been treated.,Especially Talk sport which has for well even today they are still slating him, so its a week of accusing him of being a cheat when he is no different to any other footballer. Now Eds will have a reputation as a cheat, It has stuck now.

That fat Mickey pussyclart Quinn singing a song calling him a cheat! surely thats liable.

  236. Evening all fellow Gooners: I’ve been listening to Talk shite for the last hour, believe it or not Durham is still going-on about Eduardo’s so called diving and the subsequent pen. And yes the opinion is Rooney is clever (and therefore just an accomplished cheat imo) and Eduardo is a cheat. They even went as far to say that Almunia was not smart enough because he should have pulled out of the challenge and have left Rooney diving without being touched.

  237. Consols…”Infounded”…?? Hope that’s a ‘typographical’ error, sir..
Have to disagree Maria…seemed to be less people on here since saturday.. unlike the other lot.

  238. And Top comment from FunGunner too…

It’s funny, so funny when people change their opinions wherever the wind blows…some call it flip flopping.

The difference between AIC and Wenger are

*Principals (You stick to them because you believe in them even when things are not going your way).

*Confidence (If you know what you are doing, have confidence in your staff and players, you don’t flip flop from one plan to the other every day or every game…you give it time, then asses the situation as needed)

*Wisdom (Wenger will not pay over the odds to prove he means business, he just pays the right price..paying over the odds for something doesn’t mean business, it means you’re wasteful, brainless, and soon after businessless).

Do us a favor AIC..if you’re truly an Arsenal fan, go advice Fergie or Abramofic.

  239. I see no reason to tinker with the lineup. We’re outplaying everyone, scoring goals, and it’s clear the team is having fun. Why mess with a good thing?

On another note, I am getting killed in the ACLF League. I might be joint last with my brother or something. I will say, however, that I am holding the moral highground relative to most of the other teams…why? Because my team has no one from the following clubs (and reason):

    Chelski: obvious, bunch of wankers
    manpoo: again, obvious
spuds: do you really have to ask
Hull: want nothing to do with breakdown city
Birmingham: again, do you have to ask
Villa: pretenders, not worth a punt
Blackburn: want nothing to do with fat sam

…or it could be because I suck at evaluating talent! That’s probably the truth!

  240. Cheers all, FunGun excellent as usual.

I am just sick and tired of the fault finding.

  241. GunnerX,

The We support English brigade was summed up beautifully on Talk sport when a Hack phoned in and half heartedly agreed Rooney dived but basically brushed it under the carpet coz he was a special payer for us and could try to win us the world cup next summer.

  242. Weird fact: The Daily Mail are actually supporting us – in a faint way – in the sense of UEFA has to look at everyone falling over now.

No other media seem interested. “My enemy’s enemy is my friend” stuff there.
Am with you Paul N ~ so tedious.

  243. Ponyboy,

You are right. One dramatic difference I have noticed in the last month is how Matt Lawton of the Daily Wail has softened up with regard to Arsenal. The other articles from the Mail continue to be anti-arsenal but Matt Lawton seems to have announced some sort of ceasefire. Lets see how long it lasts.

  244. Lol@ ponyboy at 6.30 pm.

  245. Let me intervene on this completely ridiculous accusations that RVP isn’t working as the lead striker in the 4-3-3. If he wasn’t really fitting into the system, that would suggest he wasn’t getting into scoring positions or having shots at goal, but rather, being anonymous during the matches. On the contrary, its been completely opposite, he’s had his fair number of chances, and has been creating as well. Luck has evaded him at times, but the f***** fact that he’s had good scoring opportunities and shots at goal, allows us to shove the ridiculous claims up the a*** of anyone who suggesrt that he isn’t good as a lead striker.

  246. Remember that article from a few weeks ago saying Arsenal were too short and we cant win the league? Turns out the team that won in the last 3 seasons are shorter than us: http://u.nu/4pw43

  247. ‘Infounded’. Whwn the f8ck did I say that Sir?

However, if I did, I stand by it. Absolutely.

To hell with what the world may think.

  248. Oh just you wait when Poliziano finds out CBob.

  249. @Ateeb,

“Let me intervene on this completely ridiculous accusations that RVP isn’t working as the lead striker in the 4-3-3.”

I agree he’s doing well, but the question is can he do better, Is his missed chances down to luck, or could his finishing ability factor?

  250. Cb –
    A case of out-breeding perhaps… dammit, where’s that soap!??

Cheers Alex… always nice to be appreciated!

Now, the blood is up, and the hounds are baying!

  251. @ Paul N:

“I am just sick and tired of the fault finding.”

But they helped you post an excellent comment. So is fault finding good or bad?

    Sixtay

PS – How do I type in italics?

  252. btw: On a more serious note – excellent ‘open’ letter from Walter ( a ref in Belgium ?) to Mike ‘bribes’ Dean – re: the ManUre match.

Untold Arsenal..the only other blog worth reading atm.

  253. Untold Arsenal

    web address please

  254. Sixtay….think Yogi has it on the right hand column of the blog…further up..

  255. thanks Pb

  256. DukeGoonem: Thanks for that, I suppose that just about sums it up then, perhaps we need to employ many more English players then! lol

  257. Sixtay, the PL season is 3 matches in and for some we think Arsene needs to start making changes, now that is utter madness, no?

The goal tally and our overall play would say that you would be a mad man to change anything, “if it aint broke, dont fix it” if you get my point.

Almunia will come good and RVP will start burying the ball in the back of the net .Denilson has been great, likewise Song, Diaby has been immense and totally brushed aside any Man U player that came close. There is just too much good to point out areas that we all know we will improve in.

Man U did not “beat” us and they know it, it was a self inflicted wound! with this games experience the team will settle a bit more be more focused and will lift the PL title.

As far as I am concerned this team will dominate world football for some time, promoting youngsters to the first team while the like of Pool, Man U and Chelsea spend silly money on players who are not even as good.

    Mark my words!

Our job is to give utmost support, moreso now given the recent hate against our team!

    ARSENAL!!

  258. Sixtay,

Why are you signing off on your posts? Are all your posts profound?

  259. Gunner From Nigeria

Why its understandable for some to call for new signings but, looking at our squad we better than last year. I think its important to focus on our achilles which is, being injury free. People easily forget that if this squad stays fit for the crucial part of the season, then our opponents would be in trouble.
The fact that few players went on loan this season further burtresses the fact that AW intends to use everybody for EPL, CC, FA CUP n CL

  260. Paul N, Your singing my tune bruv, its only then that most will realize Arsene’s vision and immense contribution to our wonderful club. But having said that this period of change is truly frustrating, as it’s not always easy to keep in sight the longer term goals.

  261. Eduardo is a cheat cos he’s foreign. Anything foreign is wrong. I eat steak and kidney pie and wash it down with a cup of tea. I drive a white van (Vauxhall) and don’t like all these foreign things coming into my green and pleasant land. I pay my taxes and am a good upstanding citizen which is why I was so upset when I saw Eduardo cheating us all.

Cheating is not the english way, which is why we all knew that when Rooney went down that he wasn’t cheating. This is beyond us. Cheating is only carried out by foreigners and those people entering the country illegally, paid for by our taxes. The cheats will never prosper. Our authorities are vigilant and will stamp it out.

Inferior foreigners will never match up to true british bull dog spirit. If I had my way the likes of Nolan and Savage would be playing for Arsenal. My grandad fought in the great war. If it wasn’t for his efforts we were all be eating sauerkraut for breakfast. This is why I agree with the pundits, press and football authorities.

The authorities should bring in a special rule for foreigners. When foreigners dive, and of course, they are the only ones who do, they should get triple the punishment as anyone else. A 2 match ban should become a 6 match ban etc.

    England über alles !!

  262. S did anyone read the Myles palmer post?

  263. Sixtay,

Some Chelsea fans may have read it.

  264. You said it Frank, its only Him we can call on sometimes.

    ha ha!

  265. Alex….Priceless!!!

Muppet, are you sure Vauxhall is still English? Weren’t they sold off to x who sold to y who sold to zed?

Did you ever see the animation about the Zidane/Matarazzil episode in the world cup that showed the incident from different viewpoints? It was hilarious. The French viewpoint showed Matarazzi running into a lampost, the Italian viewpoint showed Zidane beating him senseless, the American viewpoint showed a terrorist coming out of a trapdoor and gunning Matarazzi down. Priceless stuff.

  266. @Paul N:
“Our job is to give utmost support, moreso now given the recent hate against our team!”

What make you think that sound critic, (as opposed to mindless fault finding isn’t), isn’t support?

Do you mean utmost support or utmost praise?

@Alex: Don’t be like that, the signing of is just me having fun.

    Sixtay!!…lol

    Sixtay!!…ha ha

  268. These foreigners have no notion of the character-building effect of being rogered silly at boarding school.

  269. Vauxhall Opel are owned by GM, who nearly went bankrupt and were bailed out by the american taxpayers recently.

  270. @Muppet: Good thing you pointed out the bias against foreigners out…what could arsenal do counter the situation?

  271. Muppet,

You mean the true nationalists must now sell their Vauxhall’s? Damn.

    —-logs on to ebay—-

  272. @Pz: Did someone have a rough time at school?

  273. Eromism From Nigeria(Gunner From Nigeria)

In all the unfolding drama of the Eduardo saga, Bendtner and Denilson’s new contracts, the new formation and all things Arsenal.
Please, spare a thought for Song as Cameroon has to beat Gabon in a double header world cup qualifier this weekend and on Wednesday next week.
While, its a do or burst affair between Nigeria and Tunisia in Abuja.

  274. The only difference between Eduardo’s pen dive and Rooneys? One keeper pulled out of the challenge the other didn’t. That’s it, nothing else to it. Both players looked for it, both were going down before the goalie made contact and both cheated.

Getting a bit boring now, when’s the next game?

  275. Having an IQ of 60 is nothing to boast about.

  276. True nationalists should drive err…. (name english car with english backed manufacturer here ).

  277. Critic? geez do you watch the first minute of a film and make rash judments of what it will be like.

I asked you what is there to critique? apart from some errors we have been great.

People from other teams should come on Arsenal blogs and be impressed by our show of support and faith in our team, again especially at this point in time with this Eduardo crap.

Now is not the time to be a critic!

  278. I mean utmost support and praise then.

  279. Muppet, Aston Martin?

  280. Ah ha! Man City in two weeks…Think we can beat them?

  281. Aston Martin is half owned by a Kuwaiti consortium.

  282. They’re Kuwaiti!

  283. @Paul N: I think one is a subset of the other. Praise is a form of support. It’s left for you to judge if criticism isn’t!

  284. Go to hell, Muppet.

  285. @Pz:

    “Go to hell, Muppet.”

Over – reacted a little there.

  286. Old Mini Coopers or Morris Travellers or Triumph Herald’s are what true English people should drive or perhaps a bently for the better off. But not as nationalists, it doesn’t do to be a nationalist these days. A bit shabby.

  287. Muppet- you forgot one thing- Bring back hunging for foreigners. Also Eduardo is given a Council house while I british have been waiting for 10 years. I should have all his money.

  288. To hell ? I’m agreeing with you PZ !

  289. Whatever floats your boat sixtay.

I will both praise and support or support and praise.

    ARSENAL!

  290. Back to man city? Spare a thought?

  291. Sorry I could not bring myself to spell bently properly. For obvious reasons.

  292. ‘Hunging?’…is that starving them to death?

  293. You stole my thunder!

  294. Yep, think we can and will beat the Arabs, although we’ve a few players away on international duties before that game so down to lady luck a bit.

  295. Anyway he is Brazilian. We English like to shoot them in the head without question…six times.

  296. lol… PZ.. they have english cars in hell ? Is this your line of thought ?

Does that mean when they were driven, we were in purgatory ?

  297. What’s wrong with council houses ?

  298. I can understand Frank. If it helps Bently cant drive his Bentl*y for a year now.

  299. Give me back my thunder.

  300. @Paul:

It’s alright, but don’t forget also to criticise when needed. In you own words, “Utmost” should imply as much as POSSIBLE. Criticism helps too, if only you could see that. And I’d prefer my boat didn’t rock.

    Man City?

  301. today’s comments are priceless! </i)

  302. damn, can’t type today. Almost gave it away!

  303. “Yep, think we can and will beat the Arabs”

I agree completely with the “we can” part…not so sure on the “we will” though!

  304. Can MAN CITY pip us the way MANURE did?

  305. Brilliant Frank Imeant to say hanging so that a new word for “starving them to death”. Hunging is painful since Eufa said they will have no mercy on Eduardo

  306. Pz :
You need to get a Thunderbox.
Not even Muppet can (or would wish to) steal that Thuder..

  307. Thuder.. is that bed-time, mummy ?

  308. Man city could easily beat us if we make the same mistakes

  309. In fact, I dare say they should beat us. Adebayor is on form!

  310. Who can best stop adebayor in the team?

  311. Sixtay- Man city is perfect for us if they do come out attacking like they have been doing then they are in serious trouble, Even Fergie was scared to play 2 upfront. Remenber all the teams that have beaten us last year were defensive teams who had one shot one goal. So I think we will beat them no doubt.

  312. “In fact, I dare say they should beat us. Adebayor is on form!”

    no surprise there

  313. “Who can best stop adebayor in the team?”

no one on our team, we are obviously not good enough according to you, right?

    you are something else!

  314. “Remenber all the teams that have beaten us last year were defensive teams who had one shot one goal”

    -Marvelous Observation 1lc!

Fulham, Stoke, Chelsea, Hull, and most recently Man U beat us in similar methods.

What should arsene be doing differently about these teams?

  315. SUPPORT! OPTIMISM!

  316. Sixtay, please turn off the light when you leave. Seems you have bored most people away now.

  317. Don’t even worry about the light…just leave.

  318. My parish priest said: “There are nuts in every fruitcake. Just ignore them.”

  319. “Fulham, Stoke, Chelsea, Hull, and most recently Man U beat us in similar methods.

What should arsene be doing differently about these teams?”

The question is a moot and redundant one surely??

Since last season: we’ve had a formation change, off-loaded Adebayor, brought in Tommy V, got players back from injury, and got Arshavin playing in the side. Make no mistake about it, Man U were very lucky at the weekend.

To ask what Arsene should be doing differently is illogical even as a debate starter.

  320. Well said Gadget

  321. Eduardo got exactly what he deserved when he put his leg in front of Martin Taylor’s boot. He’s a bloody cheatin’ diver, he is. We just didn’t know it yet.

  322. I agree with Gadget

  323. Some optimism to start the morning.

We have 6 new players available in the squad from the start of last season:

    – Vermaelen
    – Senderos
    – Rosicky
    – Eduardo
    – Arshavin
    – Traore

We then have an additional 8 players who are deifinitely going to be improved from last year:

    – Song
    – Denilson
    – Bendtner
    – Ramsey
    – Gibbs
    – Ramsey
    – Vela
    – Fabianski

Which means that if Sagna, Djourou, Clichy, Fabregas, Diaby, VP, Walcott, Eboue, Silvestre, Nasri and Gallas can all up their games as well, we are in for a storming season.

    Cue the trolls.

  324. I agree with Frank.

  325. Excellent, Muppet

  326. Luke is absolutely right in agreeing with me on this one.

  327. Cheers Frank.

And I forgot to mention, we have Merida and Wilshere as well.

And for next year… Nordtveit is playing 1st team football for Nuremberg in the Bundesliga.

  328. i think i agree with AIC cause he is making some intesresting points.and what i have to say is that almunia us caused the champs league.and limpar assist if you are awareof this then i dont understand why you are still supporting almunia on his mistakes.

  329. Bragging Rights Ltd

And Merida is pretty good, pretty, pretty, pretty good.

  330. AIC always makes the same points, riley. He just hates Arsene but says kust enough to make hen seem reasonable to those who haven’t experienced his miserable posts over the last couple of seasons.

I am telling you this riley because you seem to be impressionable. It’s not too late to turn from the dark side.

  331. bob

am a man who likes to impress peolple but sometimes things dont go my way but thats life wat can you do? absolutely nothing in my opinion.but like wenger and his tactics but sometimes if we loose alot of people doubt that if we can challenge for the title especially my brother who supports manure but i always disagree with him.and bob i always look at the bright side if things goes wrong in our club i get frustrated and i feel like i have to adress some issues in our club. and i try my best to make some positive changes in my comments.

  332. Agreed, we could definitely do better then Almunia

  333. Well thats good then, Riley8.

  334. Naah, Almunia is fine.

  335. Riley8

Impressionable does not mean “liking to impress”.

  336. I think Riley is alright, Luke. He’s just a bit ‘different’. Nurture him.

  337. Sorry Riley8. Didn’t mean to be picky.

    Thanks CBob for your comment.
