Ade Out, Whose In And Eddie’s Up For It

First off, it’s still rumbling on. Still no offer, Manchester City still wittering on about a deal to be done but now adding the word ‘possibly’ to sentences, hinting at either belated or utterly insincere diplomacy. Amazingly, the City way is exactly the same route that Chelsea followed when Abramovich came in: the basest way.

Reports suggesting that hacks ‘understand’ discussions about a Work Permit will take place today – surely a tad of a no-brainer considering that Adebayor has been first choice at a bigger club for the best part of, oooh, I dunno, since he arrived. A new Permit has to be applied for with any change of employer but even so the hearing ought to be stunningly brief: “Can I have a new Work Permit please? Yep“.

Ray Parlour then put the boot in:

He was too lazy at times last season and just didn’t do it.His body language wasn’t great. Sometimes if things are not going well for you, you have to show desire…At first I heard £30m bandied around, and I’d snap their hand off at that price. Then you go and get an excellent player who will work his socks off

And therein is the flaw in Parlour’s plan. 2007/08 was a season when Adebayor worked his socks off. 2008/09 was injury disrupted and yes, on occasion, he probably did not work as hard but he was still doing his job for the team in scoring every other game or so. Unfortunately, that is not enough for his detractors since the antics of last summer have not been forgotten or forgiven.

Parlour’s observations do have a flaw in them. Working your socks off is not enough on its own. Skill is needed and there are frequent accusations against players of this ilk that they are lazy at times simply because of their style of play. When a player is signed they will work hard but there is no guarantee that this will continue. There are lulls and peaks with performance levels affected by any manner of reasons on and off the pitch. It is far too simplistic to be dismissive as saying at times a player does not try.

Anyway, since he is going – according to the media – an indulgence has been craved and answered, with the search for his replacement. Hot favourite was Marouane Chamakh since Arsene has specified him as a target. Peter Crouch is apparently there for the taking at £11m which allows for the defensive midfielder so craved. Coming up on the rails is Demba Ba of Hoffenheim, a club Arsenal reportedly contacted or my own personal favourite, Mirko Vucinic of AS Roma. Why? Not on ability alone but more to do with this extract from The Guardian’s Fiver newsletter:

At the moment it’s useless to talk because there aren’t any offers. If one should arrive I will talk with the club and we’ll see. Obviously there are places where I would not want to go. Tottenham? Let’s reject that

And that has to be as good a reason as any to sign a player. Well, it puts it on a par with criticising Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Away from this circus, Eduardo has been speaking with the Croatian media:

Everything is great, nothing hurts me. Last week I worked with a fitness coach and physio. I did all that was required and Arsenal are very pleased with my recovery…We are leaving for Bad Waltersdorf next week, on Monday. We will play two games where I should get (playing) time in one

As boosts go, this is on a par with the official site suggesting that Tomas Rosicky will be part of the squad that goes to Barnet this weekend for the traditional pre-season opener. When does a fixture become traditional and why do we not use it for Premier League games against Liverpool, Manchester United, etc??

Hopefully the circus surrounding Adebayor will be resolved swiftly and replacements, if required, can

  1. Nice post as usual YW 😉

You think Ade’s supposed transfer to City with all the IF’S and POSSIBLIES could actually fall through….

I think we have a good chance at silverware next season with or withour him. I just want it sorted asap like you too

  2. Pre-season being now uderway we need are squad in shape now preparing as a unit for what is to come.

  3. Ade’s Wiki page shows that he is already a ManC player !!!!

  4. i will be gutted if ade does leave. The thing is he worked his ass off week in week out until the fans turned on him. He turned down more money from milan to stay with us last summer. And he missed about 3 months last summer yet was still only 4 goals off our top scorer. And he seems to play better with a out and out scorer which was proved when he was scoring goals for fun playing with eduardo before the birmingham injury. And when he stopped scoring so regular we dropped out of the race for trophies. He is class and a big loss.

  5. Big loss… but we must move on

Enough of the Ade bashing at least!!

  6. Another good Article, Hopefully it will now settle down, and we can forget about any more departures, get on with the preseason and look forward to a good season.

Am really hoping Eduardo takes up where he left off as our fox in the box.

The press is full of Paddy to the spuds do we believe it.
    Will TH14 be joining him.

  7. Dandan…

Dont use the phrase “fox in the box” please!!

Everytime i hear that all i think of is FLOP

Call Eduardo .. Mr Prolific… Clinical.. Deadly striker… etc

Not Fox in the Box !! pleeeeeaaasseeee

Afterall he offers the team more in his general play than just waiting in the box for a goal. His passing, linkup play and crossing is very good.

  8. I think Ade purposefully adjusted his style last season – a little more explosive and a little less scattergun.

    Many interpreted it as laziness.

I think there was a positive effect on his finishing as well. No idea if the stats bear me out but he seemed more clinical and less inclined to snatch at a chance. He appeared to have less chances but more inclined to convert them.

I certainly felt we were more potent when he was on the pitch.

Clearly like the proverbial iceburg – we only see what’s above the water – the stuff in the dressing room we can only speculate on but maybe that had a bearing on the apparent decision to sell…

  9. Interesting that I think Jimbo appears to be right on all of his claims yesterday that the guy was going.

It certainly looks that way more and more. Personally that Marc Janko could be worth a punt!

  10. Vieira can’t go to Spurs – that will totally destroy my faith in good and evil.

  11. Adebayor already feels that he’s a great player rather than a player who wants to do great things.

The reality is that he’s a good player, who could be great if he plays to his strengths, which include phyical power and workrate, which was less evident last season. Parlour’s comments are quite valid in this respect. Working their socks off for players like Ade are essential, just look at Drogba under Scolari compared to under Hiddink.

  12. Good riddance !

  13. Jimbo was just on a wind-up.

  14. Well, good luck to Ade.. Hope he never scores against us..

Now that that is done and almost dusted.. the madness starts again.. Who will AW bring in !! Looks like this summer is going to be a loooooonggg one..

Chamakh looks the most likely since AW mentioned him but is it a smokescreen for another ??

Demba Ba looks good YW.. Currently only these 2 look likely..

Whoever it is hope we bring him in soon ..

  15. If it goes ahead. Matt scooped it on this site.

  16. ade can go i will not miss him.

  17. I’d take Josip Biskic anytime … or Mehmet Durakovic. Both Aussies and good ones at that..

  18. Having Edwardo full of confidence (re his injury problems) is enough for me not to be too concirned about Ade, cause for me, although different types, Edwardo has proven on the international stage and in the prem that he is out and out class when it comes to the art of putting the ball into the back of the net. If Ade does go, and it looks favourite, then the money might go for D/M player. As others have suggested, Wenger isnt a fool, he would have known about this and he obviously gave Ade permission to speak to Man City. Ray Parlours standards in regard to phyisical and mental effort are very high i would agree, but just maybe Wenger agrees with him

  19. I think Huntalaar would be a great signing. Also I know its crazy but maybe get Pat V back as a player / coach / motivator type role, I’m sure he’d love to work with Arsene again. Anything to stop him going over to the other place, I dont think I’ll be able to handle that

  20. its thierry that i missed though.

  21. i wil be disappointed if ade leaves…..

  22. Aren’t Ray Parlour’s comments amazing from an ex-player? Is it precedented?

  23. Ade’s move to City is a damn good piece of business for the Arsenal, if you analyse all the aspects of the move including Ade’s impact on and off the pitch.

I think folks should be thankful to Ade for his positive contribution to Arsenal, and for the times that he was pathetic on the patch or didn’t show up during a match at all – we should look at it as an occupational hazard for a young player who thinks he’s the best in the world.

The question now is what will Wenger do with £25 mill. With some extra change he has the opportunity to invest in a very reliable dM and a dependable CF who can put the ball in the back of the net, and more importantly, make a contribution to the team’s overall performance.

I wouldn’t be that worried if a ready made striker doesn’t come in immediatley as I think with Cesc, Nasri, Rosicky, Walcott, Arshavin, RVP, Bendy, Vela and Dudu – we have enough firepower for all occasions.

  24. Gunner From Nigeria

I’m tired. I hate summer transfers and speculations. My mind is never at rest during this period. This talk of goings and coming of players is making my head feel like a christmas tree- on and off. Please, Let the football begin.

  25. i agree with u suker pat V in the tot would be weired, its insane.

  26. I honestly think this could b super Nik Bendtners time. The confidence of him being a starting striker will benefit him, plus he obviously didn’t get on well with Ade so maybe will be able to come out of his shell a bit

  27. TO MANY TIMES I WATCHED ADE LAST SEASON LAZY , HE HIS NEVER GOING TO WIN OVER THE FANS LIKE A LOT OF PREM PLAYERS THE POUND SIGN IN FRONT OF THERE EYES TAKES OVER ADE IS IN THAT GROUP ONE GOOD SEASON AND HE WAS DEMANDING MORE MONEY GET SHOT OF HIM , HE WON’T LAST A SEASON AT CITY

  28. peter crouch to arsenal..yogi that is the most underwhelming linking for us this summer..

i wont be surprised if wenger doesnt buy any one and go for 1 up front..he has arshavin who he will use behind the striker..then rvp will start upfront..or dudu or even bendtner…he cud rely on bendtner to step up..just like ade did after henry..for only one season though..

i agree with ur observation on parlour’s accusation..for me his attitude sucked more than his performance..performance wise..he has very good goal ratio..

  29. what wud be fascinating to see wud be..how he fares without fabregas…city guys wud be more absorbed in scoring themselves than passing..considering they cud have 3 upfront..unlike arsenal who had 1..so less chances..less playing time considering rotation and no cl..he might just end up with 5 goals this season..the eto wud get free and city may want him..who to offload and how to offload ade..no one will pay that kind of transfer fees for him..even with little transfer fee..no one will pay his wages..

alas the wealthy arab will end up paying ade all that money for almost free..he cud have used it better to help his fellow brothers in palestine…

  30. Why do dull twats with nothing to say post the same piece twice?

  31. Chris goona

Fair enough. LOL. You couldn’t be thinking of a certain Evertonian could you.

I happen to think that this might prove to e Bendtner season, with the freedom of the park to make his runs, great heading ability and the likes of Eduardo working off him and our many skillful players, (take your pick), putting him in.

He knows in his own mind he is a player, maybe this year he can proove to the world, without the pressure of Ade that he really is one

  32. I agree that Bendy should be given the Freedom of the Grove and with the players around him – Arshavin, Dudu, Nasri, Fab, Walcott, Rosicky – Bendy has the opportunity to step up to the plate and become that potent all round striker.

I don’t know if anyone agrees, but last season, the striker who combined the best with Arshavin and produced the goods was actually Bendy.

  33. Bergkamp the legend

A fantastic piece of business.Bought for £7m sold for £25m.It now gives us money to buy that DM and another CH.We will be a much better team next season

  34. “Aren’t Ray Parlour’s comments amazing from an ex-player? Is it precedented?”

Did you hear his interview on the arsecast a few weeks back? He made it quite clear that he wanted to get into TV punditry, but that it’s quite a competitive job: Like a gigolo, if you don’t perform on the night, then you won’t get called up again.

These ex-players find themselves under a lot of pressure to stay in the public’s awareness, and I think that means they’re much more likely to go along with general misconceptions than risk getting ostracised by having original ideas. Also, many of them aren’t the smartest.

So, I guess RP’s comments aren’t that amazing. I’m sure ex-pros have put the boot in before when our players have left under a cloud.

  35. http://www.mosnews.com/sports/2009/07/15/arshavinill/

Eh? I thought he was in London! This must have been a month or so ago.

  36. OK, I’ve been had!

  37. Drew 10,

Do you wear the number 10 jersey of the J*mbo fan club?

  38. viva los gooners

    Spen the money wisely

Negredo, 23 years old 6`1″ and 21 goals in La Liga this season.

    Spend the rest on Cana.

    Viva

  39. How much do YOU pay for gigolos in Spain, Big Al?

  40. well gd riddins he was lazy player and it was obvious he didn’t love the club enough

for all the people saying peter crouch to arsenal don’t be stupid he is just a lanky piece of pish
Huntelaer would be my choice nd arshavin nd eduardo playin off him

A defenive midfielder is needed ….Flamini Back???

I’v also heard that Theirry MIGHT be coming back but most likely not 😦

  41. Hey, it doesn’t work that way. Gigolos only service women. I didn’t learn that through trial and error, I assure you.

  42. I pay gigolos about £100 per hour in London, plus expenses. I act as a discrete agent for a number of elderly clients. I like to bring happiness into people’s lives.

  43. I know Peter storey is on the verge of signing so DM is sorted and a little bird tells me Charlie George has been seen near North London … so putting two and two together, well, it’s obvious.

  44. Like an arse-whistle – a discreet agent that brings happiness into peoples’ lives.

  45. The more I read about this Viera thing the more I think its piffle. There is not one quote anywhere by anyone

  46. @ Frank, you pay for Gigolos to give you happiness? What kind of a blog is this?

  47. Are gigolos so-called because they make people giggle?

  48. When Abramovich arrived at Chelsea they were a top 4 team.City are not even a top 8 team.Greedy has gone to City for one think only the wonger. While Arsenal will be playing in the CL Greedy will be playing Rochdale in the Carling cup.
The first thing Hughes has to teach him is the OFFSIDE LAWS!!!!!!

  49. who are we playing in the CL qualifiers?

  50. Alex, I am a completely impartial observer on the whole Ade, Jimbo thing. I do think that calling someone a Spud because he thought it would be good business to let him go was a bit elitist of you.

I hate the ‘we are true supporters’ tag that is brought out any time someone has a different opinion to you.

I never read one thing said by Jimbo and others yesterday that suggested he was anything other than a real Gooner.

I really don’t want to see this blog degenerate into a clique as it generally has the best and most considered posters from any of the blogs.

  51. I still do not think ade will leave. It just doesn’t make sense for us to sell our most reliable striker to a team within the league. Two possible reasons for all this being so publicly played out:

    1) Ade gets to knock back city’s mega bucks, says he loves the club and there is more to him than money. A PR coup that instantly abuses all the le grove style tossers who knock his commitment.

    2) Arsene wants to see how committed ade is, if he takes the money then fine, but he doubts he will and sees long term benefit in getting that clear in his mind sooner rather than later.

25 mil for ade to a rival is not agood deal, unless we are actually getting 40 i cant see how this benefits us as a football team. Whoever we get in, what with adjustment, it is very, very doubtful they will be as productive as adebyor next year. Im sceptical.

  52. I doubt Hughes will handle Ade in any form better than Wenger has… with Tevez, Santa Cruz, Robinho etc i think Hughes has got his hand full keeping Ade happy and the rest of them. Its going to be a laugh watching them all flop!

  53. arsenehollis

you do know it is reported he has actually had a medical?

  54. They aint a rival either, they are a mid table team the last time i checked where we are title challengers.

  55. drew10

So you actually are for those who come on and throw about very illogical and discriminating comments about team affairs and players?? What sort of blogg do you think this is?

Dont make excuses for your kind, we can all see through you and your pal Jimbo. So Fuc* Off

  56. Ade is gone, water under the bridge. Huntelaar is a great finisher his record for real was good, really suprised more clubs aren’t after him. We should get in there. If not I think Bendtner can handle the job no problem with our midfield supporting him. Chamakh is not all that, waste of money

  57. Chris, If you can back that statement up with any evidence that I have ever made any discriminating comments about anyone who wears the badge I will submit to your view.

However, it is you that has just made the very thing you are complaining about.

Check your facts and don’t try to judge me unless you have any idea as to what you are actually talking about.

  58. drew10,

Jimbo is a prat. And your comments are really annoying…

  59. Ole Gunner, you need to relax. Don’t be annoyed! I was only making an observation.

You guys are becoming very insular.

  60. drew10

As far as your last post is concerned and your posts yesterday you are justifying Jumbo’s comments and behaviour. So the FACT remains you are backing a complete fool making yourself look like a complete fool….

    is that clear to you?

  61. Drew 10,

You only need to visit the other blog you talk about to see the calibre of J*mbo’s comments. If he still gets your sympathy then you must be a very charitable person.

  62. “Interesting that I think Jimbo appears to be right on all of his claims yesterday that the guy was going.”

What sort of prat would stick up for a troll???

  63. Everyone is pleasant on this blog

  64. Alex

Its a shame that he cant offer that sort of sympathy when it came to Adebayor this season… he might be actually still an Arsenal player if them fans did offer him the benefit of the doubt

  65. dew10

Is that good evidence i wonder

  66. Wenger shouldn’t buy a replacement for Adebayor, we have enough strikers already. He can play RVP, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela and Walcott. And Jay Simpson can get a chance to prove himself as well. That’s six strikers. Manu won the league with three – Tevez, Berbatov and Rooney – and two babies – Welbeck and Macheda. And cashing in on Adebayor is a good bargain!

  67. Chris, all I said was that he never actually said anything anti-arsenal, which was what all of you claimed.

The fact that you think I am a fool bothers me, no honestly it really does, I am not being sarcastic there.

I shall consider myself schooled by your obviously superior knowledge of what makes a true fan.

  68. Of course ! Why didn’t I see it before ? It’s all those nasty fans fault. Nothing at all to do with huge amount of money on offer.

  69. Mancity will be the biggest Circus next year.

Hahaha those football wannabes think they can make a team? Boy, i would love to see them out played by our reserves…

Heee cant the F season just start!!!

  70. kenyan

Ronaldo played up front too for United – also, they dont seem to suffer so many injuries in the SAME area in the SAME passage of time like us!!

e.g… Gallas, CLichy, Sagna, Almunia, Djourou – all being injured together really hurt us

  71. chrisgoona, I think Ade could be a money orientated man, which is fair enough I’m sure he has a family to support like the rest of us. He stayed when we gave him a raise, then he leaves when Man City give him a raise. I think a minority of the fans disliking him was 10% of the reaon he left, a shed load of cash was 90% of the reason. After all, the fans wouldn’t of driven him out enough for him to take a pay cut. Forget him now anyway, he’s yesterdays news

  72. drew 10,

J*mbo is a bimbo but he is not dumb enough to mention his anti arsenal views here because he knows he will be countered here.

Here is a small sample of his views today on a sad blog that he frequents –

“You bet LaZer, I’ve wanted Wenger gone for a long, long time.

It became clear after 2005 that he was in the process of flushing the club down the toilet, chasing his own personal ideologies, and I want no part of his silly fantasy any more.

I’ve wanted Wenger gone for quite a while.”

  73. drew10

I dont know what your views our, i dont honestly care what witty comments you try throw back at me. When you stick up for such a muppet in the form of Jimbo on this blogg your asking for it. Dont you honestly think Jimbo was trying to wind people up?

  74. Flats, I agree. Why are fans being blamed? Should we be held accountable for Ade’s obvious lack of effort.

A player who could never be criticised for not giving every ounce of effort in his body!

Why would we want someone to stay at the club who doesn’t want to be there?

  75. By all means sell Ade but sell him abroad and not to a team that will challenge us for fourth place and also only if we have a quality replacement in the bag.

It’s about time the gooners started getting behind the team, not by just turning up but by singing and creating a half decent atmosphere at the Emirates, it’s embarrassing at times. i only enjoy away games now with the real fans!

Fans need to be the new signing to lift the team it’s all we’re going to get.

  76. Alex

That is a very depressing comment to read, cant believe anyone would actually seriously think in that way. The guy is a wind up.

  77. drew10

How do you know he didnt want to ‘be there’?

Is that what you read in the Sun or do you talk to Ade on a personal level?

  78. I can’t believe for one minute that AW would let him go unless he feels the squad has enough going forward, or he has a replacement lined up.

And let’s face it, AW is rarely wrong on letting players go, and is rearely wrong on signing players, so although i am a little gutted to see Ade go (if he does), i still have faith in the squad.

It amused me greatly to listen to Talksport this morning and hear people saying we won’t finish 4th this season, I agree, 1st beckons….

And the mention of the possibilty of Rosicky playing on Saturday is the best news i have heard this summer.

  79. BigD, Ade will go where the money is, otherwise he would of stayed with us. What other reason would there be to leave? With the addition of Arsahavin and the strengthening of our defense we would be as good a team as anyone next season. He has left to get some of Man Citys ridiculous sums money so its not really up to us where he goes. Its a shame because weve strengthend in one area and now have weakend in another, its lke merry go round but what can you do?

  80. Big D

We aint going to be challenging for 4th mate

We are going to be runaway champions – by the new year we will have such a lead the rest will give up hope.

Arshavin, Cesc, RvP will be already into double figures!!

    Come on u reds!!

  81. Matt

The same doomers who called up complaining we wont finish 4th again i bet are the same doomers who reckoned Spurs could finish above us…
the same doomers who thought Villa would stay 4th…
the same doomers who said we wouldnt challenge the previous year.

Every section of each club has them i reckon.. we just seem to have alot of them right now!! Soon they will shutup and drop back into the doomerish hibernation and follow and admire the great Arsenal show the world how to play football

  82. Chris
I scanned thru some other teams blogs. They all have their moaners, so that’s some small comfort.

  83. Chris, like everyone here I only work on what I see, and for your info I don’t read any newspapers. But did at any point last season he have the look of a player who really was enjoying himself?

His body language was wrong, his effort had gone. It is okay to mention his languid style but that does not take into account the amount of work he used to get through.

Yes I understand his injuries, but it is desire that speaks volumes.

His desire seemed to have waned.

It is a shame because I like him as a player and wish him well but not too well!

  84. We aint going to be challenging for 4th mate

We are going to be runaway champions – by the new year we will have such a lead the rest will give up hope.

    Amen brother

And everyone will be hailing Wenger’s Genius… you heard it first here…

  85. I want Eduardo to get the starting place. I believe as long as he is fit he could easily be our Torres!

  86. Ouestion to all those mourning the sale of Greedy.Do you think City will finish above us?
I dont.Robinho cant do it away from hom,Tevez 6 goals last season,Santa Cruz injury prone,Greedy LAZY,Barry average. While we have Cesc Arshavin and Rvp.City are Tottenshit with money with a shit manager

  87. Ade is ill so Mark Hughes offers 2 do his shopping for him…

whilst hes in sainsbury’s he bumps in to Arsene…

‘what u doin in here?’ asks arsene…

‘gettin a bag of potatoes for Ade’ he replies

‘sounds lyk a gd swap if u ask me’ say wenger

  88. A final thought, I hope.
Ade may/must have had his flaws etc, though at 25Million they didn’t seem to have mattered much to City, but some of the comments here and elsewhere have been disgraceful. The venom and hostility that the usual suspects have written and show how much our fans are as much a part of the problem and not the solution.
If this team struggles next season I am pretty sure that these same disgraceful fans will turn their intolerance on Arsene Wenger.

  89. drew10

Fair enough. His languid style was performed very much by our former great Thierry Henry who was also known for his arrogance.. even he would have been proud to score them same 62 goals Ade scored for us in a stuttering team.

I think whatever decision is made on Ade’s future its best for all parties involved. I trust Wenger to have a replacement lined up, or have the knowledge that he has enough strikers in disposal to mount a serious challenge this season.

  90. Gigolo anyone?

  91. @ shotta-gunna, The team wont struggle though will it?

  92. With City spending money… I seriously hope that they will still be outside the top 6 next season. That would show people that money cannot always buy you success. Anyway, I dont think city will be a threat as long as hughes is the manager. He is not ferguson, ancelotti, mourinho or wenger… He is just hughes.

Adebayor should be gone by tomorrow.. so let us pray that wenger would go get huntelaar. If not then i rather he not get chamakh, who has a terrible scoring record. I rather then he gives eduardo and bendtner the chance they so deserve.

Wenger should spend the adebayor money wisely, by buying defensive midfielder. Matuidi would be an excellent acquisition. Forget about melo, inler and people that dont wanna join us. Get Matuidi and Banega (valencia highly rated DM). Song and Denilson just isnt ready to be a first team DM next season. They need at least another year of experience. Diaby can just go suck my dick full time!

Sell silvestre and retain senderos. With Gallas, toure, Senderos, DJ and Vermaelen, we are good. Senderos can be good when opposition plays with high ball. Just give him a chance, he once lead the defence to 10 successive clean sheets in the champions league. You cant be a lousy defender if you are part of a defence for 10 successive clean sheets against team like Real madrid, juventus and villareal..

  93. A midfield of Arshavin, Rosicky, Cesc and Nasri, with RVP and Eduardo up front….

    Scared of Man City anyone?

  94. @ Damn-Gallas, good post, my thoughts exactly. Chamakh is very very average, we would honestly be better off with Crouch then Chamakh and thats not a joke

  95. Ade gets mugged in a building society. when he comes around the lady says ”its ok sir, you’re in the nationwide.” Ade replies. ”it’s not may already is it?”

  96. I once set up a salon in Soho called Top Gigolos, very quiet, discrete, secrecy is the golden rule in this business. Fucking disaster. All these children kept turning up to see some fucking mouse puppet thing. Course the clients were mortified, the fear of exposure was surpassed only by their fear of mice.

  97. I would like to keep Big Phil also, I like that guy alot. I had a dream last week that he played against Chelsea and kept Drogba in his pocket so much that he punched him and got sent off.

Great dream that was. Big Phil was like the Terminator and his face didn’t even move under the punch.

Does that make me a bit odd?

  98. One of our most popular gigolos is the spit of Phil Senderos. If you are interested Drew?

  99. Wenger is a Genius… some a just slow o the realization is all

  100. Sorry Frank I’m Skint!

  101. Matt,

I agree totally with your comments. If Arsene does sell him, its obviously a decision that he thinks is best for the club.

What’s difficult for those people who have been completely pro-ade is that it’s difficult to reconcile your abject support for a player against your support for the club when the manager decides to sell him. It automatically creates an internal conflict.

I really do feel where CG and Ole come from though. Ole and I have debated this before the news broke – and I have always said that I would not have been surprised to see Wenger sell Ade despite the fact that I think he’s a very talented player. Of course Ole thought I was loosing my marbles – but the real giveaway for me has been the change in Wengers statements and body-language:

Last season – we got the very firm – “Adebayor is not for sale – he is under contract” line.

This summer we got the “Its up to Ade what he does” and the admission of interest in Chamahk which was broken by a trusted source like Auclair.

I’m just not so sure that this call is being made on playing ability alone – but a myriad of other factors such as his relationship with fans and players, his comments to the media, ego, workrate……etc – eitherway Wenger will know best and its his decision absolutely and entirely.

And for what its worth – (and Im not trying to stir shit here) – but I do think you’d a point in pursuing Ateeb and I was glad that he fronted up and apologised too!

  102. Hello, Team Spirit. You’ve been doing your job well, it seems to me. Do you have a friend called Fans’ Spirit?

  103. I think you just crossed the sanctimonious line, Joe.

  104. the ‘lazy’ bandwagon.

his languid style and being injured for 3 months and having a stop start season contibuted more to the immpression that he was lazy or not trying last season. since the boy arrived in january 3 yrs ago the one constant about his play was his general improvement as a player and his workrate.

I cant see this lazy bullshit, even if palour says so.. no one apart from wenger and some fans is willing to attribute injuries(missing 3months of the season) as part of the reason for him not being so effective this season. and even then he still manages to get almost a goal everyother game. check how many torres, keane, defoe, drogba, berbatov 2008/9 season and you will see that even missing 3 months of the season he scored more than all of them apart from torres, who he scored one less than.

anyways until its up on arsenal.com – i believe it when i see it

hope he stays, but if he wanted any indication of his popularity, or jus how much fans want him to stay he jus needs to go to any arsenal blog apart from this and see all the well wishers

  105. Ade is walking through Soho when it begins to heavily piss down with rain.

Ade decides that he should walk into the nearest sex shop. On arrival he is met with 3 doors: ‘big tits’, ‘small tits’ or ‘medium tits’.

He walks through the door ‘big tits’ and is confront with 3 more doors…’blonde’, ‘brunette’ or ‘ginger’.

He decides to go with ‘blonde’ and walks through the door to be again, confronted with 3 more doors. ‘fat cunt’, ‘tight cunt’, ‘wet cunt’.

He walks through the third door and finds himself back in the rain.

  106. Wenger looks out for the good of the team in all situations over any players ability. Its why Henry was left to go – so Ade and RvP got their shot.. and the rest of the team started playing football.

Vieira was let go because Cesc was ready to fly.. Ljungberg was let go so others could come in… etc etc etc etc…

Wenger makes the decisions, and normally does a great job with them. Im sure he has plans to make our team improve further in same way.

  107. “And for what its worth – (and Im not trying to stir shit here) – but I do think you’d a point in pursuing Ateeb and I was glad that he fronted up and apologised too!”

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

  108. I wish I could get on the lazy bandwagon that sounds like a cool place to be!

  109. The thing with Jimbo was that he didn’t understand the irnoy of saying somebody was “too much of an Arsenal fan”.

    How is that an insult?

  110. Matt,

I don’t like this hiding behind Arsene. We all believe in Arsene here (except mostly the anti-Ade folks) but knowing what we know and not knowing what he knows, someone like me is apprehensive.

1st I don’t want to see mob rule at Arsenal. Who do we hound out next?

I said from scratch that if Ade wants to go then Arsene would be right to sell.

I would still point out that there are a lot of pretty good reasons to keep Ade and keep the squad and only strengthen.

  111. yeah it does sound good but if you spend to much time there, you have to work your bollox off to get off

  112. I think i’m leaning more towards the hug a troll camp.

I think the “fuck off troll” comments kind of spoil the fun of patiently picking through and exposing their arguments.

I like to think that ultimately they have a moment of realisation that they’ve built a house on shifting sands.

  113. Ah, QoS. I was just wondering…er..well…no maybe not.

  114. I understand your point Ole which is why I feel that non-playing reasons that we don’t see, don’t know and probably never will are at play.

  115. geeGunner@12.30

he will probably have played 10 games for City before Pravda(Arsenal.com) admit he has been sold

  116. Damn_Gallas,

How much of Ligue 1 football do you watch? Please be honest and no, you tube clips dont count. Now even if you do watch it, do you think you watch it more than Wenger does and can recognise a good player from a bad one better than he does? I think it is foolhardy to slate Chamakh on the basis of the snippets that you would have seen of him.

  117. I think we should get Pat back, he must not join the spud bastardos, no way

  118. Well we do a pension plan, QoS. Just a few pounds a month, for people who well…you know…bit of insurance as they get older….make sure that get …well…er….satisfaction, when their partners begin to pay too much attenton to their hobbies…or die even.

  119. Ole

Arsene is the manager he decides who stays or goes. That has always been the case.If the money from the transfer lets us buy a DM and a CH will will be a better team. And thats what we all want. Its 4 years since we have had success.Things have got to change and Arsene can see that.

  120. Do you have any camp trolls in your team of gigolos?

  121. Alex, I watch ligue 1 a fair ammount, pronbably seen him play five or six times. He is no better then Crouch. Nik Bendtner is a much superior player. Maybe he will be bought as our fourth striker but it too sounds expensive for that

  122. YW, let me not fail to commend you; great post as per usual

  123. anyways if he does go (looking at the situ through champs manager eyes).

spend the lot on sergio Kun Aguero of athletico. That would show serious intent.

Pls not forlan (im still getting used to one ex manc 2 would be torture and 3 (RVN) would give me a serious martin keown frown!!!

  124. it wouldnt surprise me if we didnt buy a new striker but decided to try diabi up front, it is his original position and wenger has tried him playing in the 2nd striker role before, diabi has said that he is bulking up this term, could be for midfield of course but stranger things have happend

  125. Qos – Easy but not cheap ?

  126. Ole

The problem now is they wont have anyone to hude behind, any flack will be aimed directly at Wenger.

Any future criticism is likely to be aimed at the ‘replacement’ and the ‘replacer’…

    replacer = Wenger
replacement = could be anyonw: Edu, Nik, or new recruit..?

Either way the doomers and TEAM BASHERS will continue to circle our club waiting to pick out their next victim. Wenger has already been hurt by criticism of his own followers, i hope he is not subjected to that crap again.

  127. The Magic Hat,

Arsenal.com is not a blog or news agency that they can carry rumours, speculation and news of ongoing transfers just to make your day. If you benchmark the club website to its rival websites you will realise just how good it is.

  128. Yes we do. Several of our top, top gigolos are ladyboys and they are also able to roll play. Dangerous though. Not everyone wants to hug a troll. Stangely the ladyboy gigolos are very popular with some women who fancy men being women but don’t fancy men or women per se. But hugging trolls is certainly not de rigeur so it is not without risk.

  129. Tha Magic Hat,

I thought Arsene was the manager who decides. Why are you in the next breath saying what must be bought?

I am quite sure that I have made it clear I more than trust Wenger’s judgement.

However things can be forced on a manager. I don’t know that’s what has happened… all I am saying is that there are many good reasons why Ade should stay, and few ones for getting rid of him.

  130. Yup

Arsenal.com is for news and events regarding Arsenal, stuff that actually is true and is or has occured/occuring… its not a fictional source Magic Hat

If something has happened they will let you know, you can count on their word

  131. Poli.. Thanks… Yeah, i try… Hee Hee…

We can put out a notice for fan spirit then or else you can even take up the mantle

Can anyone please say if we know our CL qualifier opponent yet?

  132. Queen of Sub,

‘I think i’m leaning more towards the hug a troll camp.

I think the “fuck off troll” comments kind of spoil the fun of patiently picking through and exposing their arguments.’

Queen of Sub, are you asking me out on a date?

  133. DavSuker, its not as if we have bought Chamakh. But if we do, it will be hypocritical of you to first praise the transfer of Ade and then slam other transfers. The manager’s judgement is will be trusted more than that of any fan’s.

By the way watching a player 5 or 6 times is nothing compared to what scouts of Arsenal do. Gilles Grimandi is one of our best scouts and whichever player he recommends has a high chance of being a success for Arsenal.

  134. It turns out that Mark Hughes had sussed the fact that Ade is a double agent. He discovered his equipment. Rather than call the deal off he decided to send false messages back to AW, bit like the Enigma stuff. But he did not trust Ade, well why would he, to send the right messages. Anyway he told him to drop his shorts whilst he tapped out a morse message with Ade’s cock with one hand, holding a Morse Code manual in the other. Didn’t work. No signal. The only place they could get a signal from the transmitter in Ade’s trainer was outside a sweet shop on Maine Road. When the police turned up, Mark Hughes was tapping away like a good un.

Anyway that is why Ade and Mark Hughes turned up at court. Nothing to do with a work permit at all.

The funny thing is…the equipment was a dud…Ade was a decoy. You will se why in the coming weeks.

    ….Arsenal….

  135. Am for keeping the team together and not selling anyone, but if Ade wants to go, no need to keep him; that summer of will he / wont he is not what this team needs at this time, but lots of stability and continuity

  136. QoS,

Dont tell us we did’nt warn you!

  137. Sorry about yesterday guys, it got out of control and very childish. It wasn’t just me though people were saying silly things which made me act silly and for that I apologise. I did say Ade would go, now do you believe me? Its ok Chris and Ole Gunner, I dont want an apology or nothing.

For the record, the comments attributed to me by the one called Alex are complete bollocks, what kind of a moron would say they wanted wenger out, give me some credit?

Huntelaar would be a fantastic signing, real quality player, I dont know much about Chamakh

  138. Jimbo,

You’re completely brainless, really. Your comment; “I did say Ade would go, now do you believe me”?, just sums it up.

  139. The Magic Hat

24 league goals in 2007/08. 6 goals v Derby(25%)against the worst team ever. Why did Derby have to go down?

  140. Oh god…

    Jimbo is back

  141. Ole

    Ignore him

  142. Ole Gunner, I’m extending an olive branch here, cant we be friends and have a reasoned debate. There no need to get so aggressive about it. I’m sorry for my part in it Ole Gunner, I did tell you the truth though, as hard as it may of been to hear.

  143. Jimbo,

Are you saying that you have a doppelganger on LG? I did’nt attribute those comments to you. I merely copied what you typed just today on that excellent blog for everyone’s reading pleasure.

  144. AW has always believed firmly in giving people benefit of doubt rather than just reacting.

People may feel Ade ought to have been sold along with Hleb at the start of the season, if he did say he was willing to stay and there was no need to be in a hurry to discard him on the back of the season he had just had; I don’t even think he was that bad last season; i firmly believe his best is yet to come.

If he left, its because he wants to go and also because the manager is willing to let go since he has other options.

  145. So all the fuss you caused yesterday Jimbo… you take it all back now??!! You are a bigger wind up than i thought, LOL

  146. he also scored against milan, manchester utd, liverpool, that same season u fake fuck

  147. Eddie Mcginty

This is Ade’s chance to say i’ve been offered a lot of money from Man City but I want to stay at Arsenal and win things, that could turn some of the fans around for him, that could give him his cheers at the Emirates ergo his confidence and goals would increase again. But what do you think he’ll do if he is offered a lot of money to go to a mid-table club?…

I see this as a win-win situation, if he goes then he has gone for the money and he’s not a player I want at Arsenal. If he stays then he wants to win things at Arsenal and he is good enough to.

  148. Alex, do you think I wouldn’t admit to it if I believed it? I’m obviously someone who has there own views so why would I hide? You are obviously not as clever as you like to think

  149. Look Jimbo, I have no respect for brainless band-wagoners. I’m just tired of reading nonsense. Time for high-value comments, that show the person isnt crapping out the mouth. It doesn’t matter what your point of view is. I’ll debate anyone, but if you’re saying nonsense you get called out for it.

Same goes here Magic Hat. You fucking moron.

  150. ChrisGoona, I dont take any of it back, I eant every word of it. But, I am sorry for the way it got so silly to the point where I was trying to wind you up because you were refusing to acknowlege what was right in front of your face. Ade is leaving and I’m annoyed about it

  151. All this talk of one other striker or the other, what is wrong with what we have? Eduardo is back and so is Rosicky; also Vela and Walcott must be itching to get going in the striker role;

Not saying i know what AW will do exactly, not wont be surprised if we do not buy a new striker

  152. If Patrick signed for the Spuds, would he get a warm reception at the Emirates?

I don’t see a major issue with him going to the spuds to wind down his career, so would give him a polite clap i think.

  153. “It turns out that Mark Hughes had sussed the fact that Ade is a double agent.

You will se why in the coming weeks.”

You’d want to be really careful about publishing stuff like this on a blog Frank. It could be picked up by some tabloid Journalist and published. There’s enough anti – arsenal and anti african vibes out there without you making it worse…!

I thought this was a pro arsenal blog..!

  154. Ady barn door has always missed more chances then scored, i have no personal problem with him but i think he has built his reputation thanks to the great creative play from the team around him – when he scrored 30 goals he had rosicky, Hlep, RVP, fabs, gilbeto around him to set him up. If he scored a 1/3 of the chances he was given he would have scored over 50 goals on that season! (2007-08). I remember one of his first games for us when he played alongside TT. Henry must have put 10 chances on a plate for Ady and ady missed them all at one point i though TT would run up to him a chin im. To buy another youngish player in(Chamack) would set back the development of our massively talented youngsters. I Hope we buy an old head, Martins from Newcastle would be great and Cheap!

  155. Matt, come on Matt are you joking? Imagine the Invincible wearing that shirt? No way will that happen its bullshit

  156. And not forgetting all the goals he got against the spuds esp these 2

    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/2957507/
    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/2957502/

  157. Aex, by the way, what the hell is a doppleganger? It sounds like some form of Hot Dog

  158. That was to Alex…

  159. Seems Huuntler has agreed terms with Stuttgart…

  160. Jimbo you still dont seem to get it do you…

We all aknowledged that Ade could leave, what you need to aknowledge is your behaviour on this blogg wont be tolerated.

Did I once say Ade will stay? I indeed want him to stay, but i aint stupid enough to not see what you supporters have done to the guy, you have all practically drove him to manchester

  161. Didn’t anyone else think that Ade was actually more clinical last season? He just had less chances…?

  162. arsenalkabisa, F#ck stutgart, a late bid from us would be a no brainer for Huntelaar

  163. Jimbo

quickly ring Wenger before its too late!!

  164. ChrisGoona, He never exactly endeared himself to us though did he Chris? As someone said earlier he has gone there for money and money alone, how can you not see that? Blaming it all on the fans is ridiculous.

  165. So why did he stay last summer… please explain that if it was only for money???

  166. GrisGoona, for the sake of this blog, please stop answering to this troll. I beg you. He will NEVER get it.

  167. thats ChrisGoona, of course. Sorry for misspelling your name.

  168. Nacer is also back form his loan spell at derby so….

  169. chrisgoona, Milan were not offering him a huge pay rise like Man City have. His head was still turned though wasn’t it? He wasn’tthe same player after that, he was really poor last season. He scored a few goals but so did Darren Bent

  170. Where has the £170k a week figure come from? Is it a press invention? Seems to me to be an awful lot of money….I understand that Ade would probably want a premium for stepping down a level but it doesn’t seem sane.

  171. notlager, dont do that shit just because I dont agree with you, its so cowardly and school groundish, how can an adult man honestly say ‘dont speak to him I odnt like him’ Grow some balls man

  172. @Jimbo

he perfectly fits.. plus hes not an overawed 21 year old…

  173. Listen to Notlager people. We know who is a troll, he was outed yesterday and what don’t we do?

    WDFTFT!

  174. Er, actually WDNFTFT!

  175. Queen of Sub, Man City’s owners wealth makes Abramovich seem working class, so i’d say its about right. Depressing isn’t it?

  176. Ah Joe….would you like to give us your critique of the ‘story’. Don’t forget to include part one of the ‘story’ from yesterday. Just to point out the anti-African and anti-Arsenal theme to our readers. So that they can all understand. You see you might just have mislead them there. Accidentally of course.

You know you do remind me of Alex Ice Cream, you cheeky young scamp.

  177. Consolsbob, TTFN

  178. I agree. DNFTFT.

  179. Yes Alex, I thought you would agree with that

  180. Ahhhh, more and more. Drew10, your comments were pretty crap I think. Jimbo was on a wind up. The problem is that there is a difference between supporting the team and making constructive comments and thinking you are supporting the team and making comments that are not based on anything other than subjectivity.
Example: Ade didn’t work hard enough last year. Now Ray Parlour may be a legend, and Jimbo too, but comments like that are based only on your opinion. They need to be accompanied by clear statements to the effect that 1) there is no armchair method of determining effort, and 2) you don’t have a fricking clue how much effort anyone on the pitch is putting in. If phrased that way then comments won’t be riduculed. Merely stating that someone is crap because they put no effort into playing for the team is baseless and in itself LAZY. If all you can do is spout garbage about how someone is crap and lazy and not putting the effort in without backing those assertions up with OBJECTIVE data than you are guilty of lazy commentary and deserve to be ridiculed.

In addition I feel that if you are going to support the squad but are not happy with the amount of effort you think someone is putting in then keep your mouth shut and find something good to say instead rather than taking the lazy way out and spouting off complete and utter tosh.

In my opinion signing Huntelaar would not replace Ade immediately. I think bringing someone in, if we have to, that has not played in the PL, may be a small step back. Despite how well Arshavin seems to have adjusted my suspicion, and I have no clue whether this is right or not, is that he was more the execption than the rule. I’ve heard it said, but don’t have the evidence, that it takes time for people to adjust to the PL. Bringing in someone who has not played in the PL as a replacement seems like a natural step backward if they can’t adjust immediately.

  181. Gris Gris, Good post. But I did watch Ade very closely last season and although I am 99% sure that his heart wasn’t fully on the job. Its not a ground breaking thought, thousands of others felt the same way

  182. frank…

    what’s roll play?

  183. Blazon, Juggling Big Macs

  184. It is where two people cover themselves in egg-white and roll around in flour, Blazon. The braver ones even warm themselves through in one of our patent love ovens. We call that sausage roll play. You never done it? Just one of the tricks our gigolos all have in their portfolios. Interested?

  185. arsenalkabisa,

He definitely would fit right in, a top clas finisher and can play a bit. I though Man Utd would of taken him, or Juve or someone. Everyone is broke except for about four clubs.

  186. There were several factors that hindered Ade last season.

For one, compared to the previous season, he did not have the services from the midfield that he had gotten from Cesc, Hleb, And Rosicky.

Thus, based on his low return, he was easily the scape goat of a mediocre season due to his summers flirtations with Milan.

When the Fan support went, so too his head went down, and with that, his performances.

So which came first? the chicken or the egg?

  187. Everyone is broke except for about four clubs.

    And these are?

Me thinks clubs are just getting wiser. Apart from Real (who seem like a small boy with a new credit card) and Mancity (A slum boy who just one the lottery) everyone else, even ManUTD and Milan, with all their money ayn spending like fools.

Me thinks the football world is strting to listen to wenger’s ideologies..

  188. After the fiasco at Real at least Blatter and Platini cant place all the blame on the premiership

  189. thoughts are with hartson today. Guys is only 34 hope he comes through

  190. GrisGris, good post.
Like you I wonder how someone can say a player is lazy, not playing with his heart when the only evidence for it is our limited view of the situation.

Players who are feeling unappreciated are the ones who seems to be unmotivated. Look at the situation Robert Pires found himself in at Marseille before he joined Arsenal. Pires’ final season with Olympique Marseilles saw his form dip when he suffered several annoying injuries that kept him off the pitch for over a quarter of his club’s games. It was a traumatic period, where he had been abused by fans and had been stripped off the captaincy.

Some quotes from his wife in 2001:
‘The worst thing was that we liked it down there, but give us a choice today between the sun of the south of France and the rain of London and we will surely choose the rain. We have rediscovered a normal life and Robert feels so good about everything.
‘Pressure and aggressiveness do not work with Robert. He has to be free and that is a reality at Arsenal. At Marseille his qualities were not given their proper value. I saw him give an enormous amount for that club. He played with fear, knowing he was not respected.’
    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/archive/england/news/2001/1120/20011120afcpires.htm

I’ve already posted this some time ago on this blog. Sorry if I have to repeat myself.

  191. @notlager

Its a Cycle, player gets slated doesn’t play well, doesn’t play well gets slated. Which comes first? the not playing well, or the being slated?

  192. notlager, stop repeating yourself

  193. kabisa, spot on. Fergys comments about over priced players made me laugh but there is truth in that, thats why its a good idea to get 25 million for a player like Ade, we might nopt get another chance

  194. arsenalkabisa, I think with Ade the general acting like a bit of a Pri-Madonna came first, and the head-but on young Nik was the last straw for alot of people, he weren’t getting much respect after that. Huntelaar is better anyway

  195. Support on the pitch, feeling loved and being forgiven by the fans especially after a big defeat….. you can’t tell me that is not important for a player.

Here a some quotes from our Superbob in 2002:
‘I will always remember the week after we lost 6-1 at Manchester [25 February, 2001]. That week, I met Arsenal supporters and they told me: ‘Right, what happened in Manchester is no big deal, you have to forget it. The important thing is to beat West Ham this coming Saturday.’ There is only one country where supporters can say that. And they are absolutely right, because the next week, you win 3-0 and everybody forgets what happened the week before. When I hear things like that, I really want to give the maximum.’

    http://observer.guardian.co.uk/osm/story/0,,626717,00.html

    How things have changed…..

  196. notlager, stop with the boring posts

  197. wherever. Forever. Arsenal.

    When are club numbers Issued?

  198. notlager,

Good post. Most creative players have mental characteristics not much unlike artists. Many slate AW for being too soft and gentle with his team but considering the number of creative players we have had and still have, perhaps that is a deliberate strategy.
Overmars, Henry, Viera and Pires are just some of the players who came to us because our manager and later the fans valued them more than their previous clubs ever did.

  199. Malaysiangunner

    YW excellent as usual

Only Ade and AW will decide whether Ade stays. QOS, plse do not doubt that Ade will be paid much more at Manshitty than at the Arsenal but is it enough for him to turn down CL football and stay at the club whose badge he kissed regularly, I am not sure. Like what Eddie McGinty wrote, if he did turn down Manshitty to stay and play for the Arsenal without a pay rise , I will start believing that I am wrong and will eat healthy chunks of humble pie and start cheering him on. So should the Arsenal faithfuls. He must want to stay on his own volition.

Lets see what happens as Eddie had said it is a test and a win- win situation.

As I have said before , I still fancy the Arsenal chances with Dudu, Ross, Vela( one year wiser) RVP and Bendy plus Simpson with Arshavin. We will be runaway champs next year.

No Fear !!! We Are The Arsenal!!!

  200. You hit it right on the head notlager. That’s exactly why we should always support the players in every public utterance.

  201. The Magic Hat

What people are missing is now Ade has gone RVP and Eduardo will be fighting to be the main striker and our best player Arshavin will now be able to play in his prefered position behind the main striker.Arshavin will be the player of the season and will get 15-20 goals Premiership beware

  202. I wonder if Ade will go? Seems odd it isn’t discussed more on the net.

  203. @Jimbo

Me thinks that the fans were on his back even before he became a Prima Donna.

Saying he wasnt as good as Henry, He was slow, he held up paly, He was not selfish enough in front of goal, he was only competing with the Lesser Ronaldo for the goldedn boot and not mindfull of other team players..etc etc

I thought it all went away when he shaved his hair (not a good sign when a player changes hair style)

  204. Then again that would just be tedious speculation so why would anyone bother?

  205. Finsburyparker

    Nice posts notlager.
    (& YW!).

Someone on here yesterday was comparing themselves to Chelsea fans. The logic being, if Chelsea fans want Drogba out, what’s wrong with wanting Ade out?

Why anyone want to compare themselves to a Chelsea fan?

Steww, I saw that crazy stream, but I managed to get another signal on Ustream. Fortunately!
    That was very funny.

I think next season Justin TV will struggle, definitely within the UK, I don’t know if the broadcasters bother to hack the streams abroad as much.

When not at games I used:
    http://www.myp2p.eu/
    http://www.rojadirecta.com/
    or Ustream.

  206. I like beautiful blogs!

  207. arsenalkabisa, But isn’t that all part and parcel of being a professional footballer? Ade was obviously a very weak man and were better off without someone who cant handle the pressure. He could easily flop at Man City but I think he only cares about the wage anyway. Were well shot of that wimp we should be celebrating

  208. Steww, did i tell you about this phone call i receieved?

    Well…………………

  209. Only joking Ateeb!

  210. Finsburyparker

    Top posts notlager (&YW!).

Someone here compared their dislike of Ade to a Chelsea fans dislike of Drogba.

Why would anyone want to compare themselves to a Chelsea fan?

Steww I saw that crazy stream.
It was very funny. Fortunately I found another stream.
I think Justin.TV is hacked by the broadcasters within the UK a bit better now, and the few streams that get left are high in demand and low on bandwidth. I don’t think they bother with broadcasts outside the UK as much. Last season when not at games I ended up using:

    http://www.myp2p.eu/
    http://www.rojadirecta.com/
    & Ustream.

  211. Um Matt, you may have mentioned it…

  212. You gouge out a man’s eye and then stab him in the heart for crying out when you gouged out the eye.

Yes, its so much fun to be booed, and castigated, and ridiculed and have your every action misrepresented. If it affects you it’s your fault. Not the bully’s.

Jimbo, go look for your type. The discussion here is over your head.

  213. @Jimbo

    True that.

Song has had some major slating, but it has gone to make him the fighter he is. Same situation. Different men. Different results.

Ade will warm the bench after three games. the Pressure is now with City. Any bogus result and they will be so under the microscope!!!

To miss the glory nights of champions league with Arsenal for money?? I would play for Arsenal for free!!!

    A disaster waiting to happen!!

  214. Yeah Matt it was just a passing mention though.

  215. LOL – anyone want me to post it again?????

  216. I thought not……….

  217. The Magic Hat, He is so good isn’t he. He’ll have a full pre-season and a full season. Whoever his strike partner is will be thanking him for alot of assists I imagine

  218. ole – apart from one slip we were all managing not to feed it. Please – I like the thought of it starving slowly.

  219. good posts notlager. agree absolutely. Jimbo, I’m still not convinced that just because lots of people think something that makes it right. there seems to be quite a large contingent of fans of the club that are not of the ilk “no matter what happened last week, the important thing is to win next week.” notlager’s post is illustrative. we need more supporters like that and fewer fans who slag people off because they “think” the player is being lazy.

  220. steww, you’re pretty sick steww, I’m almost starting to like you, but you cant stop what is already written.

Ole Gunner, He couldn’t handle the pressure, get over it. If he thinks the rsenal fans are bad wait till he starts hearing the groans when Man City are thenth in the league and he hasn’t scored for ten games

  221. That is the beauty of football, no matter how bad a performance or result is, there is always the next game to give you the chance to forget it….

Unless you lose to a Nayim goal from the half way line in the 90th min, or batter Pool for 90 mins to then let a 1-0 lead slip in the FA Cup final…

  222. GrisGris, Thats fair enough but sometimes, sometimes players need a good, hard, kick up the arse. We all do dont we?

  223. Sorry new to posting on here but read it everyday, had to post this after reading Jimbos so called apology earlier

    Jimbo Says:
    July 15, 2009 at 09:08

    Wenger out!

    LAzer Says:
    July 15, 2009 at 09:12

So you’ve wanted Wenger gone since 2006 then right Jimbo?

    Jimbo Says:
    July 15, 2009 at 09:16

you bet LaZer, I’ve wanted Wenger gone for a long, long time.

It became clear after 2005 that he was in the process of flushing the club down the toilet, chasing his own personal ideologies, and I want no part of his silly fantasy any more.

I’ve wanted Wenger gone for quite a while.

  224. Jimbo ,Ive been reading with interest your on-going battle with some that dont agree with you. they abuse you but you dont give up, they boo you but you dont give up, if only Ade had your desire and passion

  225. Confirms what we all suspect TG but we still must not feed it.

  226. I’m knocking up a brochure that takes the piss out of Chamakh, just in case he signs for us. Anyone want to help?

  227. No, no, no, Matt.

However good a performance or result is, there is always the next game to give you the chance to forget it.

  228. Damn! It looks like we’ve missed out on Peter Crouch. Perhaps a last minute offer from Wenger will change his mind.

  229. No don’t say it’s true. He’s been the missing piece in our jigsaw since John Radford left.

  230. TrueGooner,

I’ve had this conversation with Alex already dumbo. It must be a differeent Jimbo out there somewhere because I would admit to what I think. Anyone who thinks we dont have one of the greatest managers of all time knows nothing about football. Good researching though clever cloggs. You’re like a shit Inspector Clueso.

  231. Ole,

Go with me on this – Lets assume that Ade is gone (fair assumption given Hughes has confirmed that Citeh are discussing terms with Ade).

Then, trying to accentuate the remaining positives:

Wenger will get 25m on top of the existing budget will enable him to bring in more reinforcements – which in his most capable hands could be very potent. Its true that the panel is deep – but it is also true that we have highly technical players and as such, we have a higher propensity to have 3 or 4 players injured simultaneously.

Furthermore, it does signal a change in formation, abandoning 4-5-1 (as you rightly, IMO, make the point that outside of Ade, there’s nobody else that can play that holding role as effectively).

This would probably mean seeing AA and RVP upfront, with combinations of Eduardo / Rosicky / Nasri / Vela / Walcott / Bentner / and Ades replacement playing off them in a committed attacking formation in 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.

I think Arsene would have been impressed with Barca’s style of play and I don’t think he would consider our normal brand of football to be all that different to theirs.

Alex – Your point about Arsene’s soft and gentle approach to coax creativity is undoubtedly valid and has reaped great rewards up front and in attack. But is not the converse true of defense –where you need to be disciplined and aggressive ala Mourinho and Fergie? Is there not a balance to be struck here? Because I think we’ve always had the players – but lately we’ve not had the discipline or aggression that Keown, Adams et al had.

  232. Boomer,

Thanks Boomer, these boys on here are nuts. Alot of them are cool but theres also alot of cowards, the same with some of our team members I suppose, one of whom is gone now thank god.

  233. Joe,

Don’t worry I dont need much convincing on the strength of our squad. I see it more than the fookers here celebrating us getting weaker.

We have a lot of strength in attack but won nothing. Now we might be weaker. For no reason.

  234. Jimbo you also go on about your winding up people on this forum when you post on LG.

  235. Truegooner you’re wrong. If I was saying that on there and using the same name on here it’d be a bit obvious wouldn’t it? And why dont you post this under you’re real name you big coward? Alex is it? What a pussy

  236. The Magic Hat

    Ole

How can we be weaker when we have got rid of a player whose heart was not in the club whose performances had dropped to an unexceptable level.Wenger could see that why cant you,If it means we can now go and sign two new players we will be much stronger. And now he can play Arshavin in the Bergkamp role.Things were really bad for a spell last season and changes had to be made.Trust Arsene

  237. Steww are you Gollum in disguise?

I wants it!!!!! I needs it!!!!!! Dont feeds it!!!!!!!!!

  238. a fixture becomes traditional when it occurs at the same time every year for more than three years. it cannot be used for premier league games because these fixtures occur (allegedly) according to a randomly selected sequence, and do not happen at the same time each year. In addition, the Barnet game is played from choice, one of the factors influencing the choice is now the tradition that has been generated. League fixtures are mandatory and therefore there is no tradition, only compulsion.

  239. Ole Gunner he wanted to go, so let the pratt go, why do you insist on sticking up for a player that considered leaving the first chance he got and has now gone to Manchester City to play under Mark Hughes? There are other players who deserve your support and Ade is definitely not one of them

  240. Steww I can Imagine you sitting on a rock in your cave with a little laptop, wearing only your pants.

    Dont feeds it!!!!!!

  241. The Magic Hat

    Ole

Do you think he would have gone City two years ago? of course not he is going for the £££££££££££££
    no fucking ambition

  242. Joe, that is the interesting part of the potential loss of Adebayor. How will Wenger adapt? He is the master, in my opinion, so it will be fascinating to see what comes of it. However, changing formations because of players leaving at this stage still seems like a step back to me. It forces a re-evaluation of the squad and approach, which is counterproductive in my opinion. Still, the cerebral part of the game is interesting (usually because I’ve no effin clue about it).

  243. We need to see preseason to know what Wenger is thinking.

Barnet wouldn’t show us much, But through out preseason i want to see how Denilson Diaby Nasri Gallas, Toure are used, as they are the ones fighting for spots..

  244. arsenalkabisa, We’ll most likely sign a new DM and a new striker as soon as the Ade money gets transfered. Wenger is clever and like most of us would of known Adebeyor was long gone so will have a few candidates waiting in the wings

  245. Wenger might not sign anyone, and will be his stubborn self.

I would love him to sign, but who really out there would add to our squad?

  246. the magic hat,

Adebayor, even last season scored one goal every 2 games. In the Champions League he scored 6 in 8. Even last season his contribution was substantial.

  247. Huntelaar would add to our squad, Maybe get Viera back just so he cant join them down the road which will be a f#cking nightmare

  248. Ole Gunner, Thats all well and good but the fact is he wants to score goals for Manchester City now, he’s a wanker

  249. Anyone Arsene brings in, he must be careful not to stiffle The youngsters.

Cesc made the decision to sell Vieira easier. i don’t see Arsene bringing him in.

i like Huntelaar too. But that would mean Edwardo, Bendtner vela, Arshavin even to have less palying time.

Me thinks it would be okay for Arsene to go ahead with the squad as it is, or buy a novice.

Or he should bring someone up from the reserves. they days for buying are slowly coming to an end

  250. The Ade business is mostly ill-informed opinion, speculation and for that reason, uninteresting.

To get the context right we might take account:

    1. Wenger clearly will have a well-worked plan regarding tactics, strengths, style. There are factors we are not aware of (like the fitness and form of key players) and some we are.

    2. It is inconceivable that Wenger is not controlling this sequence of events, since Ade needs permission to even talk to MC.

    3. This means Wenger knew at least weeks ago, probably longer; and potentially hastened matters for reasons we can only speculate about.

It is completely wrong to ‘rubbish’ Ade. We don’t know anything. What is clear is that he is a good player, and an unusual player, but perhaps not an Arsene player in the long term – nothing else.

Funny how the most significant ‘soft’ news is not discussed – the implications of our team receiving 5 “new players” plus a few more and the impact.

    1. Rosicky back full time
    2. Eduardo back full time
    3. AA – first season
    4. Senderos – back I assume
    5. Vermaelen – in
    6. What players are getting promoted?
    7. What is the impact of the year older, stronger, wiser for many young guys already in first team (eg Wilshere, Song, Gibbs to mention just 3)

If Ade stays or leaves in reality little changes in the overall context. He might or might not be replaced. There might be exciting news.

But the core of this team is intact and wonderfully poised.

  251. Jimbo,

Would you be happy if we all agreed that Adebayor is a wanker and then moved on. The world according to Myles Palmer and Le Grove. The problem with this assessment is that it doesn’t really tell the whole story. Wenger has obviously sold him for a reason. Of course, you and your fellow doomers, who hold amazingly fixed and definite opinions it seems to me, will tell us that he is a useless tart and, of course that’s the reason why he has been sold.

Unfortunately, because of the track record of many bloggers on Le Grove, and particularly Myles Palmer, your opinion to me is about as credible as the idea that politicians are out there to serve their communities.

There are several shades of gray here. Firstly, there is a very real possibility that Adebayor has become demotivated by the rantings of a few very stupid arsenal fans, which has had a circular ill effect on his performances. Secondly, none of the doomers have really considered the effects of his injuries on his performances last season. Thirdly, Wenger may have other reasons to wanting to let him go. He may consider Bendtner to be equally effective, and with the transfer money available, we could go out and shore up the midfield or defence. We do not know. The only thing I am certain of, is that it is not as cut and dried as you would have be believe.

It seems to me also, that you seem to be somewhat naive. Every player that does not show 100% commitment for Arsenal is slated. Whilst we should praise those that do, we have to be realistic and realise that some players are mercenaries and do have their heads turned. Unfortunatley, Hleb, Flamini, Vieira and Henry have all looked elsewhere, which is disappointing, but the latter 2, inparticular did not receive the vitriol that has been reserved for Adebayor.

  252. arsenalkabisa, except for Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid and maybe f#cking Portsmouth

  253. The Magic Hat

I love Wenger but he said no one would be leaving and we all know that wasnt true.He offered Eboue to Florentina to try and get Melo so Eboue knows the manager thinks he is surplus. And either Gallas or Toure will go.As neither of them will want to be a benchwarmer. So the commings and goings wont end yet

  254. Muppet, Yes

  255. ZimPaul,

    Thank you! That was perfect.

  256. The Magic Hat

    Muppet

Do you really believe a player who is on 80k a week is demotivated by what the fans say get real.He should try doing a real days work.He is previledged to be playing football for a living.Try telling that to the 3m unemployed.I cant believe some people on sticking up for these pampered multi-millionaires who cant live on £2m a year and want more.Who pays their wages you and me through our season tickets.Adebayor was lazy last season we all saw that with our own eyes

  257. So, what am I saying? We might do better to talk about the team that is real, and not the gossip that ain’t real. This is ACLF after all n’est pas?

I like Ade, and I hope he stays. If not I say ‘good luck my friend, may your dreams come true’.

Did he or did he not serve the Gunners, play and score goals? What’s the matter then? If he does move, no problem, if he stays, even better!

  258. Jesus what happened to ACLF…seems the antigoon/moron/doomer types have taken over the palace.

  259. Magic hat,

you are talking tosh. were you sitting next to Wenger when he “offered” Eboue, Gallas, or Toure to anyone? No? Really? If you want to repeat rumours from the rags please cite references so we know you’re not making it up.

  260. It is completely wrong to ‘rubbish’ Ade. We don’t know anything. What is clear is that he is a good player, and an unusual player, but perhaps not an Arsene player in the long term – nothing else.

All playesr that are not with Arsenal are utter cunts. RUBBISH

If he is at Arsenal he is god. If he is not he is crap!!!

  261. I’d like all our rejects to go to Spurs. Perhaps our fans would then support our current players instead.

  262. Sadly, for all the odd bloggers out there today, Wenger does not discuss his actual plans with the world, but with his confidants and management.

He has a team to run.

We didn’t tell us? Grow up will you.

  263. The Magic Hat,

Everybody understands this point of view.

I am not a season ticket holder, so I don’t know if every performance given by Adebayor this season was indifferent. I saw him in a couple of games. He was indifferent, but in one game, he had come back from being injured for 2 months.

Match sharpness and total fitness could take up to 10 games. Finding form could take longer. You are telling me that as soon as he comes back from a long injury he should be on fire ?

The other thing to consider is that mud sticks. It is arguable that Fabregas was at his best in the latter stages of last season. But it seems to be universally acknowledged that this was because he too was out for a long time with injury.

  264. Too right Ole Gunner.

Not enough quality, too much of rubbish today innit?

  265. And just to be clear, I exclude all the regulars from that statement. You know who you are.

  266. Ole Gunner at 14:49, don’t worry about the doomers taking over full time. This place will be back to normal when the season starts. At the moment, apart from reading Yogi’s thread-starters, the rest is just bollocks. Playtime for the anti-support.
I agree with you that we will be weaker without Ade. But moving on from that, if we get Chamackh, he looks like he could score his fair share too, from the chances we create. It’s more about the chances we create. Anyway fuck off Jimbo. You are dull.

  267. Thing is ZP we can cope with those who’ve been lead by the media and anti-Arsenal blogs to believe it’s ok to slag of our players and manager. They can be persuaded by careful arguments but those infantile trolls and the sorry ones who just can’t understand what’s read need to be rowed out.

  268. .

  269. *off, sorry.

  270. Jimbo’s a bit of a nasty piece of work … talks too much … this may be taken as a big hug Jimbo.

  271. Too right steww … bunch of forkin good for nothing (I mean this literally) idiots.

  272. Nice link ARSLAN. God it makes a change for people to be talking us up. Why is it assumed that Man City will take our CL spot. Where are ManU’s goals going to come from this season?

  273. The Doomer's Family

Yyyesss…..ooouuurrrr Ppppreeeccciooouuussss……..bore these regulars to death. Keep repeating yourselves. You know the drill, we’ve been preparing most of you for a long time. The day is near, when he’d be finally gone. Our mission would have been accomplished.

P.S Many of you doomers, need to register yourself with us. We don’t recognize many of you, and like the AKBS here, we are as confused, where the f*** did you all fall from? However unlike them, we are more than happy to accomodate you into our family. Just fill up some forms, a few training sessions, medical mental checkup, and you’re ready to DOOM.

  274. I do hope that Senderos gets a chance to show what he has learned from his time in Italy, although that maight be asking too much.

  275. Hi Zimpaul, How are you? Sorry I am not allowed to talk to you as Joe says that I am anti-African and Anti-Arsenal. Your comments were spot on though.

  276. Oops, my bad. What the fuck was I thinkin about mentioning something, other than Ade, or Ade leaving, or Ade’s performances, or Ade’s wages…?

  277. ManU will certainly struggle at the top level this season without 35-40 goal lesser R, his goals turned a lot of draws into wins, and Chelsea too under new manager. Liverpool will probably retain their title challenge. Man City will take 2 years to build unless by some miracle this out-of-the-box team works as a unit. That leaves Arsenal which has significant all round round improvement in depth and quality, and stability.

  278. 2 days to the first Pre-season…

  279. Did anyone see the Football First interview that Adebayor did that Arseblog keeps referring to? I missed it, was it as negative as Arseblog makes out?

  280. Hey Frank. I’m OK. How you doing? I’m working way too hard. Joe must be a newbie.

  281. G4E – THANK GOD

  282. Hi Frank!

  283. Weird as fuck….

  284. Sort it out fella

  285. You been having fun on here today then?

  286. Does a Troll evolves into a Full-Retard? Or is it the other way around?

  287. I know Marc…I can’t wait to get on with it, it’s been so long without seeing Arsenal play.

  288. Zim Paul 4.41

A very good succinct post that says it all really,

If the doom mongers and buy a star brigade, were to manage their personal budgets the way they would have Wenger manage Arsenals. then bankruptcy would surely follow.

    Cheers

  289. OK – new moderation settings are in place. If you get caught, await freedom! Mind your language and you won’t get caught.

    YW

  290. G4E – I got to watch a rerun of the Arsenal vs Spud game from 04 the other day. Don’t think that would have made it without a fix.

  291. YW;

Oh sh*t dam! Thats gonna hamstring me to b*ggery for sure…

  292. Yogi – Are you saying we can’t swear anymore? Are you fucking serious?

  293. A troll usually lives under a bridge and eats children. Fully satisfied he writes endless drivel on Arsenal blog-sites to aid digestion. For play he writes and writes and writes the same thing over and over dribbling grimly over the keyboard. Then he goes to blog-which-shall-not-be-named and shares smutty jokes. Trolls regress, always, so yes ultimately full-retard is the equivalent of ‘wise troll’. The wisest go out and hit things with their heads – it’s ‘thinking deeply’ for them.

  294. The Doomer's Family

    YW,

Are the new moderation settings aimed at catching some trolls?

  295. Thanks for clearing that up ZimPaul.

    Whats a retard?

  296. Silver Gunner

Guys Ade staying or going makes no difference so long as who ever plays upfront makes the most of the goalscoring opportunities that present themselves in an arsenal shirt.

I dont really know much about Chamakh, you tube can be misleading if Huntelaar is availble at a reasonable price including wages we should make every effort to get him because he is a clinical finisher of the Roy Makaay type, and Chamakh looks like a raw unfinished type on first impreesioned.

Any regular french league watchers here please your opinion on him would be appreciated.

  297. Marc, these were nice games…I wish I can find them somewhere…I think I have some games on VHS but I don’t have a VCR anymore :)…nice.

  298. algerian-gooner

ade has just scored, what a goal

  299. The spuds are a bunch of masochists aint they? I mean, how many players do they want to come out publicly and state, that they have absolutely no chance of signing em…?

Whatever floats their boat I spose, the kinky losers!

  300. California Gooner

Ole, doom an gloom? I would hardly tar you as as doom merchant! But your are playing a dangerous game.

Last year, when intelligent posters such as NYMarcus and AIC expressed doubts about the team post-Hleb and Flamini they were ridiculed as doomers and accused of not properly getting behind the team. If memory served, NYMarcus would run hot and cold, one day expressing hope, the next despair at the state of the team. And then we lost five game and were basically out of the title race in November.

Anyhow, how is your despair at Ade’s departure and fan’s unwillingness to see his value any different? Will nuance be allowed on ACLF? Or will Poliziano now come and hound you for no believing in all our brilliant young attacking talent? Anyhow, I hope this board becomes a bit more tolerant of different styles of support.

  301. Did anyone see the Football First interview that Adebayor did that Arseblog keeps referring to? I missed it, was it as negative as Arseblog makes out?

    Hi, Marc
I saw it. It wasn’t negative at all – he said essentially that he loved being at Arsenal, but that he missed the fans showing the love like they had in 07/08 and that he felt that whatever he did, the fans were not going to warm to him again. He was very down. He knew the fans had been annoyed by his flirting with other clubs, but couldn’t understand why some still bore a grudge. I think that the i’view is being portrayed as disrespectful or negative about the club in order to justify the treatment meted out by some.

It’s clear from the interview that he felt that staying with Arsenal for less money than he could have got elsewhere was sufficient proof of love from him. He’s obviously the kind of player who needs to feel loved to do well, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he’d decided to go, especially after that business with the brochure getting into the national papers. It must have been quite humiliating. (I noticed on SSN that Michael Owen was touchy on the subject of whether other clubs had been interested in him.)

    ***

I am nervous about the prospect of next year without Adebayor, for the reasons YW has listed, but if he does go, I assume that Arsene has a backup plan, or has a good reason to sell him, or both. I just hope this is not a case of fans’ behaviour forcing the manager’s hand.

Anyway, whoever we end up with in the squad in September…I’ll be 100% behind the players wearing the shirt. We are The Arsenal. We Rule.

  302. CaliG;

Ole is the biggest Doomer on here… he is always carpin on about how we will be relegated if Ade leaves….

  303. Marc

For the moment, no, since (a) there were 197 porn links posted through on Monday and (b) the levels of complaints are rising.

    YW

  304. The Doomer's Family

I have to aggree, the board should really make a separate section for the doomers at the stadium. The doomers are mentally challenged, and hence need to be kept at a distance from the normal supporters and the players alike. Sound proof sections. Give them masks with big smiles, as mandatory to enter the stadium.

I remember Nymarcus and AIC……..but who are these intelligent posters Cali Gooner is talking about?

  305. Ateeb – working on it.

    YW

  306. Greedy granted a work permit. Now will everyone admit he has gone
    Well done Matt

  307. @ California Gooner

You weren’t talking to me, but I’ll tell you what the difference is. (This is addressed to Joe as well, incidentally.)

If we have a bad patch, I will not be constantly harping on about how we would not have lost if Adebayor had not been so foolish as to sell him.

I will look for the positives in any replacement player, or in the other forwards, if no replacement is bought. I will believe we can win the lot.

If we lose a game, I will not be crowing about how clever I am and what a naive fool Wenger is to have sold Adebayor.

Anyone can have an opinion, but not everyone’s opinion should carry the same weight. I don’t want AW to sell Adebayor. But if he does, I will back his judgment because I rate it higher than mine. Not because I am a serf or a member of the Chinese Communist Party, but because AW has talent, a track record and 30 years of experience.

When the season starts, I will be – to quote myself – “100% behind the players wearing the shirt.”

  308. YW,

With regards to (a). Do you see any direct correlation with the number of (a) rising and the number of doomers increasing on this blog?

  309. It’s interesting that you say “Well done Matt.” I wonder if Adebayor would have considered leaving if Matt hadn’t caused Sky to run the story about him going to Man City. I can imagine the disappointment that Adebayor, still reeling from the Arseblog brochure, must have felt when he learnt that the source of the story was a blog that he had always thought supported him.

  310. Alan, and I hate myself for giving a prat the time of day, but here goes; Alan, how is a player greedy when he turned down more money to stay? I’ll bet the money is a significant factor in any player’s decision making process but this greedy nickname started before Manchester Of Arabia got their cash.
    Your argument ,sir, is facile.

  311. Ateeb

Nope. The only correlations between trolls and anything is the increase if “DNFTT” and “F*** off” postings which are making the sane discussions increasingly hard to follow.

    YW

  312. Wait till the Man City press conference when Ade holds up a City shirt and kisses the badge and says its always been his dream to play for Manchester City and to play for a manager like Mark Hughes.Cant wait

  313. Great double back to back punches FG.

On the same topic, ideally I have no doubt that Arsene would have liked both Flamini and Hleb to stay. Their depatured, and subsequent injuries allowed us to rethink our strategy on many fronts. What we got out of it though, was the grooming of our young players, who’d play a massive part next season, both as starters and coming off the bench. Likewise, given the level of access we have to the information with regards to Adebayor, I think Arsene knows he is important to our team, and ideally him staying would be the best thing for the squad. However if things turn out any other way, as FG suggested, our role as supporters should be to be 100% behind EVERY player that wears the Arsenal shirt.

  314. Guilty Yogi but if you don’t encourage people not to feed the trolls people do and then you have no discussions at all. What should we do? People won’t ignore them until they have it pointed out what trollery is afoot.

  315. I agree with FG. Need a gigolo, FG?

  316. You telling me a I can’t sell my gigolos on ACLF, YW?

  317. Oh this fucking keyboard. It is an I you fool not an a.

  318. Frank

You can – perhaps you could describe them as something else. I dunno, like a washing machine…

    YW

  319. Ateeb

What are you talking about? You sayWenger knows Ade is important to the team.Whose decision do you think it was to sell him then? The cleaning lady??

  320. Dave – shh. It’s better to say nothing and be thought a fool than to speak and prove it beyond doubt.

  321. California Gooner

FunGunner, thanks for clarifying. So there is some water-under-the-bridge principle at work for you. I guess some people put these things behind them more quickly than others. I guess my larger point is that board could be more friendly towards people who are fundamentally fans, have a huge desire to believe, but also have some doubts.

  322. Well, my dear, and how are you today. Need a little pampering. Want spoiling. Want a little something that you might not have seen for a while. Want something that will really hit the spot. Let me introduce one of my washing machines….
…you trying to ruin me, YW.

  323. Catch him Yogi!! Just found one, goes by the name of dave. We had a blue dave a few days back, could be his cousin, or lost the blues after hearing of Ade’s departure.

    Dave,

I didn’t get your post. Who is the cleaning lady? And how is she involved in this rumoured transfer proceedings?

  324. Do you lead an exciting life, California Gooner?

  325. How does one stop FDT? Even steww has caught the disease now. The only one who seemed to be immune to them.

  326. You sayWenger knows Ade is important to the team.Whose decision do you think it was to sell him then? The cleaning lady??

Of course it’s Wenger’s decision. Ateeb is saying that there must be other reasons why AW decided to sell him despite his importance to the team. It could even be that AW thinks other players can take up the slack, or has a replacement lined up. We probably won’t know until AW writes his autobiography!

  327. This cleaning lady? Do you think she might want a washing machine?

  328. Caligonner,

” I guess my larger point is that board could be more friendly towards people who are fundamentally fans, have a huge desire to believe, but also have some doubts”

Could you clarify a few things:

1.Who decides the different levels of doubts that are acceptable and that are not?

2.Should booing and making silly brouchers acceptable, since they’re just expressing their doubts?

3.Where would you like the line to be drawn?

4.Did you manage to understand why RVP and Arshavin can’t play together, since you must be able to understand more clearly the intelligent posts by AIC?

  329. AIC, Joe, NYMarcus….aren’t they all the same person, California Gooner. I used to like Randy California’s music. Do you find yourself introducing yourself as Randy California to …er …what do you guys call them…dames…thats it…no… chicks…chicks for sure. Do you?…

  330. Now that Adebayor’s departure seems likely, and assuming Wenger is allowed to spend the money, we’re now looking at the following situation:

    Available Funds: Approx $27,000,000
ADDITIONAL salary funds: $80,000 per week (yes, Ole Gunner I know you struggle with this fact. I also recognize that we arguably have one more spot to fill now)

I recall hearing that available funds included salary expenditures, so there might not be as much money to go round as everyone thinks.

These are the five most viable options as I see them:

    1) Make one or two small signings (young players at 3-6 million each) and put the money in the bank or hold until January.

    2) Spend the majority of it on a world-class central forward or defensive midfielder.

    3) Do nothing and go with the current squad

    4) Bring on 2 players at 10-12 million that will strengthen the squad. With the increase in transfer values, this would be the equivalent of signing Sagna and Eduardo a couple of seasons back.

    5) Sign one quality player and pocket the rest or keep until January.

Option #1 makes little sense with the number of young quality players in the squad already and #3 will be suicidal. Option #5 is possible if Arsene is comfortable sticking with Song and Denilson as his main dm choices. Although Cesc’s comments about this being a weakness last season means that his morale might be down if we don’t beef up in this area. TV is also an option (see below)

From everything we’re hearing, the 4th option looks the most likely. With Adebayor gone, Arsene needs to find someone who can run on to the inevitable through balls coming from Arshavin, Fabregas, Eduardo and Nasri etc.

This player needs to be tall and quick with some finishing ability, but the focus should be on pace here as this is what is now most lacking upfront. It’s what makes Chamakh a logical contender, but knowing Arsene it could easily be another underappreciated striker with great potential.

As far as strengthening the defensive midfield spot, I still wouldn’t count out TV as an option Arsene’s considering, much in the spirit of Petit.

If he goes with a current specialist, I don’t see anyone out there that’s affordable who can also bring a little more height than Matuidi would. With two smaller central defenders being the likely scenario for Arsenal (Gallas, Toure, Vermaelen all not giants) then a defensive midfielder in the mould of a younger Gilberto would be ideal. Luckily, we have Arsene as manager and he might have someone in mind.

I’ve already put my two cents in for Wigan’s Scharner. He would be worth a punt at 6 million and has professed a love of Arsenal and is strong in thre tackle and in the air. The only real question mark is his quickness to the ball, but that didn’t seem to detract Arsene from Xabi Alonso (although he is a different class to Scharner, but also valued at five times the price).

That said, Arsenal could do a lot worse than an 8-12 million striker in Chamakh or someone of a similar ilk, and a 6-10 million defensive midfielder or central defender if Vermaelan moves up to partner Cesc. Doing this will both strengthen the squad and still leave some room for January (with Hleb and Arshavin as his last two January signings, Arsene probably feels confident he can succeed again at this time). DOn’t forget his funds could swell with the probable departure of Senderos and the possbible departure of Eboue.

Regardless, even with Ade gone, Arsenal are looking in great shape. Like I said yesterday, I still think Arsene will be prepared to buy a world-class player if he thinks that player can win us the title or Champions League.

For all the pessimists (they like to call themselves realists) who accuse the rest of us of being Fantasy Football players, it is an option Arsene has left open in the past. I’m sure that Liverpool are quite happy to have snapped up Torres for around 25 million now that he’s worth at least 45-50 million and has turned them into title contenders. We can get a lot less a player for 25 million now (see Tevez and Adebayor), but still find someone who could be a difference maker come crunch time and who will also put his heart and soul into every game. Bendtner gives us the physical option still, but we need a smart, sharp and speedy striker to add the finishing touch to our great creative play. It’s why even at 11-12 million, Crouch shouldn’t even be mentioned as a possible signing.

Prediction: Arsenal to go with a relatively inexpensive striker and defensive midfielder in the 8-12 million range and maybe one more addition in January.

We’ll win the F.A Cup, finish 3rd in the league and reach at least the QFs of the Champions League. That’ll be enough to keep Fab and Arsh for another season, imo.

  331. I don’t think the cleaning lady would have time for washing machines. She must be working really hard to get this transfer rolling. But who is she? Does anyone knw anyone who knows no one but the cleaning lady? We need information.

  332. ‘Well big boy whats your name?’
‘They call me California G….er…California thats my name…Randy California’.

  333. I’ve never had a problem with Ole. He’s a proper Arsenal supporter. No question. I think that at times he has exaggerated the importance of Adebayor. Ceteris paribus (that’s for QoS), we will of course be weaker without him. In my opinion, however, Arsenal is not reliant on any single player. In the recent past, we have perhaps had a psychological dependence on Henry or Fabregas; but that is no longer so.

If, next season, we have two strikers (RvP and Eduardo, for example) who are scoring more than a goal every other game, and someone starts claiming we can never win the league because we have lost Adebayor, then I will strongly disagree. That, in essence, is what the anti-supporters did last season.

  334. Steww– shh. It’s better to write nothing and be thought a plagiarist than to write and prove it beyond doubt.

  335. Doubts will not help the belief CA Gooner, doubts destroy belief…

Confidence is a very weird thing, if we the fans lost confidence in our players, how can we expect them to be confident? It’s a two way street, you support me, I will get the confidence that my fan is behind me…you yell, boo, and sit quiet with doubts about me…I will hold back, try less, and most likely lose.

Try to support without doubts, you will feel a lot better and make our players more confident.

  336. We need to use the cash that we get from Ade’s sale to Man City, to invent a “Know thy supporter” meter (KTS). It will be able to detect the level of doubts that radiates out of a supporters body. Scanners can be installed at the entrances, anyone over shooting on the doubt meter, be kept out. We can organize our support better. The maxmimum level of doubt that a certain supporter radiates and is acceptable, be seated with supporters with the minimum or no doubt levels. The better supporter, to be equipped with a taser gun. Or if the the better suporter is a member of the DNFTT gang, than we need to keep them away from the high doubters. Very high doubters, can be made to sit in one section of the stadium, and made to wear t shirts that say “FUCK O**” on the back. That should keep everyone quite, except for the ones in the front row.

  338. I’ve been mulling over this Ade business and thinking that the way he came across in that Football Focus interview, he was very down and almost tearful. I wonder if Arsene sent him away at the end of the season to think things over and decide whether he thought he could get past all the disappointment and hurt he was feeling.? I suspect that might be the reason why Arsene was saying things like he ‘believed’ Ade would stay and if he left it would be only if he wanted to. Despite keeping quiet all summer and not speaking to anyone about his future, I don’t suppose things like the brochure or the reaction of many fans to the reported interest of City would have encouraged him to think things might be any better next season. I sincerely believe that he enjoyed playing for Arsenal – after all it was the team his idol played for and he was playing in his shirt number. He seems to be the type who needs to feel the love to help motivate him so if he believed there was no hope of getting that at Arsenal, he might as well move on and go for a fresh start. I’m sure he would rather have gone to Italy or Spain, but since no top teams were in for his services at the right price, man city it is. At least man city fans will have no illusion about why any players are playing for their team and therefore cannot hold their salaries against them.

  339. Melo joins Juve

  340. moneybayor is a arsenal legend . dont blame him for leaving us for allmighty mancity , its his childhood dream .

  341. Very few of us have seen more than a couple of Chamakh games and some online compilation videos. One thing for sure is that he’s a greyhound of a striker. Let’s hope he proves to be more Anelka than Aliadiere. He certainly will supply the pace we need upfront.

  342. I agree with Passenal.

  343. Interesting link OG ‘ 7.02 pm – Philippe Auclair said that he had already been signed several weeks ago. Let’s wait and see what happens.

  344. And what if he is unable to supply the pace we already had upfront?

Private Santino, long time. Where have you been dooming?

    Agree with Pasesnal!!

  345. Why are so many people talking about Huntleer? Isn’t his move to Stuttggardt almost complete?
And if we want a player like that, whose only abilty is to put the ball in the net we might as well have tried to get Owen!

And do we have enough without Ade?
You could imagine a front 6 of Cesc, Denilson, Walcott on the right, Arshavin in the centre, Nasri on the left and Eduardo up front.
Only one problem, with none of our defenders being over 6ft we would probably have the shortest prem team ever!
    Bring on Stoke 🙂
But seriously, Ade and Diaby were brought in at a time AW realised the team was too light weight. We are in danger of going down that route again.

  346. Ateeb, that would be Major Santino. His promotion was richly deserved.

  347. ateeb
i was waiting for moneybayor to leave , tevez and moneybayor city gonna walk the title .

  348. Well said Passenal.

I would add it’s really disgraceful what some fans did to Ade, and they may regret it (if they have any feelings that is).

I think it’s best for Ade to leave, best for him not for Arsenal because we would lose a good striker. I have no grudges to hold against him. I just hope this will not effect the decision of future players to sign for us.

  349. Ateeb,

    What?

  350. California Gooner,

Every time we lose a first-teamer it affects the team. Ade’s move is very different from those of the Summer before.

    1) Tactical/Replaceability. Ade gave Arsenal another dimension we never had previously, rightly or wrongly. It’s harder to replace a striker around whom your play is built than Flamini.
    2) Practical- He’s the one striker we have we can depend on for now.
    3) Stability- We can’t rebuild every season.
    4) What it says about the club to sell one of our best to Man City
    5) A player has been hounded out of the club and I am dismayed, and worried.
    6) The other players chose to leave. We’ll know soon enough if Ade chose to leave but that doesn’t appear the case right now.
    7) We can replace Ade but the replacement will need bedding-in time. That’s the problem. This season we absolutely have no margin for error. We absolutely have to contest the league and win a trophy.

I don’t know if I have exaggerated Ade’s importance to the team, but it might seem so since I was very much stressing his importance. When you’re stressing the importance of something it can be construed as giving more weight to it than one really is doing.

In any case, whatever happens, I won’t moan all season that we sold Ade, and it wont change my positive attitude to the team.

  351. JohnN,

Our starting midfield and strikeforce provided everyone is fit would be more like Arshavin, Cesc, Diaby/ Denilson, Nasri, RvP and Eduardo. Walcott will be a super sub.

Our central defenders are 6 footers – Gallas is as is Toure and Vermaelen. Our backup defenders Djourou, Senderos and Silvestre are well over 6 feet as well.

Bentdner provides a physical dimension as would the replacement for Ade whoever it is.

  352. I fully agree with Passenal
What worries me is who will next become the scapegoat. NB has got some serious stick from fans despite the fact he was our 4th choice striker, and definately better than any other clubs 4th choice. If he has to play a more important role and misses a few goals early on what will happen to him?

  353. Once Ade’s been sold I’ll stop talking about his importance to the team, I promise.

However, does anyone think the other players won’t be affected by Ade being hounded out of Arsenal by a mob?

Will the rest of the squad rejoice, and think “wow, o how much I love our fans, they’re always behind us players”? Just asking….

Even doomer/antigoon thoughts welcome. No morons welcome.

  354. The Doomer's Family

    Alex,

I forgot about him promotion. Been kept busy with all the application forms that the newbies have submitted. Been a bit dissapointed with the doomers, nothing original. Same old crap. But they’re still part of the family, so they’re to be enrolled. Most of them are a danger to themselves even when assigned clerical work.

  355. Alex
I agree with your starting line up but RvP was too tall to fit my arguement. Why should I let facts get in the way of what I wanted to say, I been learning from a few others on this blog!

And I did say done of our defenders aare OVER 6ft,

  356. Ade has gone lets forget about him he is history,we now have 25m to spend. There is no excuse for us not spending all of it. Inler? Hangerland? Chamakh?Huntelaar?
But dont no one say we havent got the money. That excuse can be used no more

  357. You actually make some good points, Ole Gunner.

My only points of disagreement are

    1) Bendtner supplies the other dimension and physical presence if not the athleticism and ability to score outrageous goals. He does have a general awareness that Adebayor lacks (think of his pass to Walcott for our first goal (before Arshavin’s breathtaking second) against Blackburn.

    2) Adebayor only received criticism when he started playing games in the media last summer. Before then, he had almost unanimous support.

I agree that it would be better to have had him this season, even if he wasn’t playing at 100%. What we’ve lost is a player with pace and strength. Chamakh provides the pace and Bendtner provides the physical presence, but I’m not sure many of us would feel comfortable with those two starting upfront in the first game of the season against Everton.

I can see Chamakh up front with Van Persie or Arshavin tucked behind and Bendtner with Van Persie against certain teams, but neither one strikes me as an all-purpose striker.

  358. Ateeb,

I remember Santino’s promotion application being a borderline case till General Palmer himself intervened and we had to salute his wishes.

  359. I think we’ll sign Chamakh, and I don’t think the fans who forced Adebayor out will like it. I’m glad about that. I hope it sticks in their throats and chokes them.

  360. Paulie Walnuts

From the moment Ade said he might leave last summer there was no way back for him. He should have left then really.

Anything other than 100% `loyalty` can never be forgiven by some fans.

Even people on 80K a week have feelings though -I wish him well for the future (just not against us) as I do for all our exes.

  361. Is that enrolled, Ateeb, or entrolled?

  362. JohnN,

The point is 3 of our central defenders – Senderos, Djourou and Silvestre are well over 6 ft contrary to your statement.

  363. Ole

FFS let it go.Ade has GONE.He is a Man City player now.
The most important person at the club is Arsene not any player.
You either trust him or you dont.
You are the biggest Doomonger of the lot

  364. PW

So you wish Cashley well?.Oh well each to there own

  365. PZ,

If Chamakh does sign, him, Bendtner, Vermaelen and Gallas will be an absolute menace in the air from set pieces against any opposition.

  366. so sad that peeps cant see that we will struggle without Adebayor !

what if RVP and Eduardo dont stay fit season-long ?

what with BENDTNER and his erratism in front of goal ?

which decent striker are we thinking of ? Chamakh ? WHAT A JOKE !!!

have we thought of the fact that we should be adding bodies not surprising them in the name of making moeny for the club ?

thereafter we still would not buy a player for 25M, would we ?

I fear what would happen this season

In Arsene we trust indeed !!! hmmn . . .

  367. Just read the piece about Chamakh. I don’t know why, but it makes me feel better about losing Adebayor! Perhaps it’s the sense that Wenger really wants MC and he isn’t just a stopgap signing? It’s not ideal to lose an important player and disrupt the team, but we have to assume Wenger has weighed it up and decided the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Assuming Marouane is coming, let’s hope he does a Sagna and settles in really quickly. In fairness, the French league players usually do.

    *****
    @lagooner

    If I may…

    1) Bendtner supplies the other dimension and physical presence if not the athleticism and ability to score outrageous goals. He does have a general awareness that Adebayor lacks (think of his pass to Walcott for our first goal (before Arshavin’s breathtaking second) against Blackburn.
As you say, Bendtner is a brilliant player, especially in his link-up play, but he doesn’t offer the same options as Adebayor. Which presumably is why Wenger is interested in Chamakh.

    2) Adebayor only received criticism when he started playing games in the media last summer. Before then, he had almost unanimous support.
Not true, I’m afraid. He was still (after 30 goals) being slagged off as Adebarndoor, the goals-against-Derby-don’t-count rule was invoked against him, and he was dismissed as “not Arsenal quality”. There is a section of fans who have just never liked him.

  368. California Gooner

AIC and NYMarcus were most definitely not the same person, Frank. Some animosity there, AIC being rather more negative, NYMarcus having a heart/head conflict (the heart wants to believe, the head just doesn’t)… but then you were joking when you wrote that, weren’t you?

Ateeb, that comment is just silly and your sarcasm betrays a smugness that really doesn’t suit you. You are taking up the mantle of relativism against someone who dares to criticize your certainty.

I have always argued the board a place where more discussion is allowed. Your comment on AIC’s post about Arshivin and RVP is just ridiculous. Just because you can’t make sense of one comment that AIC made does not give you the right to silence him. There are a lot of ridiculous comments made by many people (me and you included). Formulating things incorrectly or partially or even getting them wrong is an important part of the thinking process. Respectful discussion hopefully helps everyone arrive at better understandings.

Where do I draw the line on what is acceptable? I don’t have the final say on these things nor do you. In general, I appreciate reasoned arguments and an environment that encourages them. I have no use for boards like Gunnerblog, where macho posturing and insult hurling seem to be the order of the day because no ever comes away much wiser from those boards. However, Yogi has the inevitable task of deciding the limits if everything breaks down.

My point was that some of you have taken it upon yourselves to police any negative sentiments, essentially by conveniently labeling dissenters as ‘doomers’ ‘trolls’ or just restating the ‘true supporters don’t criticize’ mantra ad nauseum until real discussion is simply shut down. This has driven away people who in my mind greatly enriched the discussion. NYMarcus and even AIC were putting forward arguments in a reasoned way and deserved respect, even if you sometimes failed to follow their logic or disliked their conclusions.

G4E, in advising me to suppress all doubts, where do you think my doubts lie? I have no doubts about my love of Arsenal, Arsene, and the current team. None. Or were you giving a dictum to banish all thinking? Can’t one question whether we will be better or worse without Hleb or Adebayor, whether we should play Theo or Eboue on the right, if we should buy a new DM, or can Kolo and WG play together in defense while still supporting the team 100 percent? Aren’t discussions like that what bring us here? Or is this just to be a place for us to ritually reaffirm our total commitment to the team?

  369. silver gunner

Guys he has gone end of i just hope he never cane rows his hair at man city….

  370. Well put California

  371. Lagooner – so used hackneyed clichés is now considered plagiarism is it? Half wit.

  372. Queen of Suburbia

CG – when you express said doubt…what do you want agreement or disagreement?

  373. California Gooner,

I respect your sentiments but why are we discussing the fact that AIC and NY Marcus dont post here anymore as something of gigantic importance? Its their choice to post here anytime they wish.

They are a lot more cultured and articulate than some of the trash that post here now. If they want to come back and post here its up to them. Either way its fine and not worthy of more discussion.

  374. lagooner,

Your point 1. I’ve staunchly defended Bendtner too, so I do know his strength. At 21 he already has like 24 international caps and like 7,8 goals. He’s very good ball to feet, and he has better heading technique than Ade. The goal he scored against Newcastle was technically perfect. Ade won’t have scored that. But Ade was better in the air. Contradictory? No. Ade’s leap and strength gave him sheer power.

However, Bendtner 1) doesn’t have Ade’s pace, doesn’t have his strenght 2) is a link man. 3) (Most crucial: He is not yet proven. To rely on him will be a gamble. If he doesn’t make the step up, watch him become the new scapegoat.

On Adebayor’s support. It’s not completely true! Go back to ACLF archives. Even in 07/08 people were ridiculing him on this forum. I remember long debates with the likes of Alex Ice Cream on this topic. The Adebarndoor jibe has been on since 06/07. I remember that goal he scored in 08 against the totts from a Cesc backheel, curled like Henry, so many said he thinks he’s Henry, he thinks he’s the dog’s bollocks.

  375. hi ole…

the thing is mate is that i dont beleive ade has been hounded out…

ade gave an interview last year on sky sports saying that he had a three year contract and he was happy…football wasnt about the money and he wanted to stay at arsenal….

within the hour he gave a 2nd interview saying a number of clubs were interested in him and he was going to sit down and discuss his future…

    ??????

1….if he was happy and he had three years left what is there to discuss about his future…

2..even if he was after a payrise you dont go on national tv and say it and use other clubs…

3…the fact that we had dudu and rvp as injury worries and vela nikki and theo too young ade knew he had wenger by the balls…..

4….he would of joined barca but they didnt offer him enough wages he was bound to be sat on the bench as 4th choice behind henry etoo and messi and they couldnt match the 80k…we beat them for wage…so he stayed….contrary to the belief that he was offered more money elsewhere like robin….he wasnt…we offered the most…..milan wouldnt meet the transfer fee so it never progressed to the wage stage…..barca did meet the fee but couldnt match the wage…

robin and cesc are repeatedly linked to other clubs…more recently robin…but they dont come on tv and say i need to discuss my future….they say they are staying and thats that….

robin said he was worried about trophies….but didnt want to leave and proved it by turning down much bigger contracts elsewhere….

ade then did an interview in africa saying football WAS about the money….

and then he did that BBC interview saying he didnt understand the fans and it was practically their fault for his form….why??? why cant he see that the fans arent stupid??? the majority of fans dont like players like this and ade walked right into it himself….

even wenger said that ades behaviour unsettled the side….and it was no surprise that ade was dropped for the next game after that BBC interview…

the fans havent forced ade out….hes forced himself out by losing touch with the people that pay his wages……treating them like fools and the fans arent fools….

and i dont think nikki will be sad to see the back of him do you???

what sort of an example is ade to the youngsters at the club???? piss him off and he headbutts you???

i can understand why you want him to stay but too much damage has been done….

the negativity around the club has been created by noneother than ade himself….

and i wouldnt say it was a handful of fans….the word mob suggests its a minority….its not…the MAJORITY of fans want him out and have done all season….

but the main reason why he isnt liked is becuase last year we lost alot of players….wengers not thick he knew we would have to replace them but we didnt… why???? because we are a club that uses a joint transfer/wages kitty…. the ade saga took weeks of wengers time and millions of wengers cash and he didnt anticipate it…he was forced to get freebies like bischoff and silvestre and rely heavily on youth…

ade totally messed up wengers plans last season….

i fully beleive that wenger had plans to offload ade this summer….when he knew his main strikers were back and his younger strikers were more experienced…..

and im fully behind wenger if he decides to sell….fully…

  376. heard that greedybuyor is demanding 170k per week . lets hope city wont get mad and send him back to us .oh no

  377. JonJon you have just exhausted the quota of all your remaining 292 posts with that last one!

  378. alex..yup..

but do you agree or disagree???

  379. Having read California’s comment, I have decided to stop silencing AIC and NYMarcus. From now on, their comments will appear in all their glory. Enjoy!

  380. Ole Gunner

I don’t think the other players will feel Adebayor was hounded out of the club. I think what affects them the most is when the fans aren’t 100% behind the team at the Emirates and start getting frustrated if we don’t score in the first 10 minutes. It baffles me why some fans think we’ll be able to roll over most teams before the game is even a quarter old. One of the team’s greatest assets is the ability to wear down the opposition. Fans getting agitated only encourages the other team and makes it harder for us to make the breakthrough.

  381. Yogi @ 6.06pm – Sorry, you’re not going to ban swearing because it might stop the porn links or the new moderation rules are to stop the porn links from getting through and the swearing is OK?

  382. Queen of Suburbia

I still see myself as a relatively new poster on here and generally i’ll try to converse with most of the “trolls” if they are attempting to make a point.

The reason being that I guess as a former regular LG poster…i’ve sat on both sides of the fence. I’ve had my moans, i’ve complained that we are playing badly and i’ve even once in a fit of pique suggested that it might be time for Wenger to move on.

After one day of a fairly big fight on here, I started to understand the place a bit more.

There was one moment in particular that stood out for me I think it was after the second Fulham draw and I said something along the lines of I’m worried about 4th place now. “Franks biggest fan” patiently posted the remaining games and explained how we would ensure CL football in 09/10. That post impressed me hugely and showed me how having faith in my team was a more enjoyable experience than dooming.

ACLF is home to a rag tag collection of extremely funny, witty, intelligent, erudite posters. I consider myself fortunate to post with them.

If I can play a small part in helping a jon-jon or an AIC to regain the enjoyment of being a fan and the opportunity to be an “accepted” poster on here…then it behoves me to try to converse with them.

  383. Chamakh is shit, seriously. Were better off saving the money

  384. Great post QoS. More power to you in your quest.

  385. “Chamakh is shit, seriously. Were better off saving the money”

    Please elaborate.

  386. Fungunner

I would still argue that the vast majority of fans were behind Adebayor until last summer. There’s a small section of fans that even bash Clichy (too careless) and Sagna (can’t cross) FFS, even though they are at least in the top 3 in the league in their respective positions.

  387. Dex,

On what basis do you make that allegation? He has’nt even signed for us and the barbs start!

  388. Balls, I doubt very much that Arsene would sell just for money. My own speculation for what it’s worth is that if you have an unhappy player, whose form is being affected by the atmosphere around him, you do what you can to reassure him, but ultimately, you might have to cut your losses especially if you believe the team can cope without him, or you have an alternative option.

  389. “G4E, in advising me to suppress all doubts, where do you think my doubts lie? I have no doubts about my love of Arsenal, Arsene, and the current team. None. Or were you giving a dictum to banish all thinking? Can’t one question whether we will be better or worse without Hleb or Adebayor, whether we should play Theo or Eboue on the right, if we should buy a new DM, or can Kolo and WG play together in defense while still supporting the team 100 percent? Aren’t discussions like that what bring us here? Or is this just to be a place for us to ritually reaffirm our total commitment to the team?”

Guessing if we were going to be better or not, is not the same as doubting your players. Playing Walcott on the left or right is not the same as doubting if he’s of Arsenal quality.

So can I say I believe in God but I have doubts?

You either have one or the other.

  390. the fights on here recently have been over the top QoS

i dont like him..but others do and i can see why they arent happy…

id of been pissed if someone was rubbing my face in it when we sold henry or wrighty…..

but fans have never been more divided over a player than adebayor…as shown on here…

vicious vicious arguements…..we shouldnt be fighting like that and its quite disappointing to say we all support the same team…

    the solution…sell him…and get the harmony back…

  391. The truth about Adebarndoor is his dream move was to AC Milan. But they were never going to pay over 20m for him.Its amazing that no one else other than City wanted him yet Wenger got them to pay 25m for him.Nice work Arsene. And just remember he is City”s 2nd choice after Samuel Eto”o turned them down

  392. The question of Adebayor being hounded out of the club is impossible to answer. Some will say he has been, some will say he hasn’t – either side refusing to budge. Part of the problem is that Adebayor has not really helped himself. Cesc is constantly linked to Madrid, a club he will not sign for, his response to the press is that it is very flattering but my commitment is to Arsenal. Adebayor’s comment after being linked to Milan (or whoever) it’s like Beyounce (or whatever she is called) coming on to you.

He was either looking for a move or could really have done with a decent PR man, who he let do the talking.

  393. JonJon – Careful talking about players who divide the fans. Someone will bring up Eboue.

  394. So, QoS, do you think signing Chamakh will be to Arsenal’s behoof?

  395. Dex

If Wenger thinks Chamakh is good enough i trust his opinion more than yours. And he couldnt be worse than the lazy one was last season

  396. ““Chamakh is shit, seriously. Were better off saving the money”

    No, please don’t elaborate.

  397. Queen of Suburbia

Fundamentally though – what is the argument against those fans who like an Arsenal player that you don’t?

Their judgement? Can’t be because they support the same team as you?

Generally it boils down to “you are deluded/robotic/question nothing sheep” that roughly translate as you support the players too much….how can that really be a crime for an Arsenal fan?

And how can an Arsenal fan in good conscience attempt to convince another Arsenal fan that one of their players is no good?

  398. eboue is different Marc mate because Eboue isnt worth over 20mill and isnt regarded as first choice…

as long as he stays a backup player then i dont think any fan would mind him staying…..

but when youve got a player that can make you 25mil like ade its a different story….

  399. The Doomer's Family

    California,

Don’t think anyone here has been slated just because he wanted to Discuss something that was worthy of a discussion. Neither have I, in my time, witnessed any of the regulars give someone a hard time unfairly. AIC, wasn’t driven away, he’s probably on a vacation. And many know it wasn’t just about his doubts, but rather his fluctuating support he showed toward the team. Can’t be two ways about it. As for discussion on team, tactics and the rest, you’ll always find Chrisgoona or Ole Gunner, to take you on, among others. I don’t know why you’re bringing up this AIC/Nymarcus thing? Maybe you’re just missing their perspective on our team and the manager, and offcourse, what it means to be a supporter.

I really didn’t understand your attemt to answer my questions regarding the acceptable level of doubts a supporter can show.

JonJon’s post can be summarised as:

“Thank God that Adebarndoor is gone!!!”

  400. Ole Gunner,

Point taken on Ade in the air and Bendtner is not the same type of player, no doubt. I agree that Bendtner doesn’t have Ade’s pace but he has a different type of strength. Ade can shield the ball as well as anyone given a good first touch but I would rather have Bendtner go up for a 50-50 header with a defender.

I think there’s a small minority that will bash nearly any player. Adebayor’s negative minority was a little bigger than some but smaller than many other players before last summer.

  401. JonJon,

I was not aware that Barca failed in landing Ade last year only because of the wages. I dont think this was the case. If they discussion had progressed to that level –

    a) News would have broken out that Arsenal had accepted an offer for Ade. I dont remember that happening.

    b) The tax rates in Spain are lower and am 100% sure that Barca could have matched the Net wage that Ade would have got if not the Gross wage. Net wage is all that matters anyway.

Anyway, as to your other argument of Ade and the fans, it is definite that Ade could have done a better job with his PR but that does not absolve a vocal minority of fans who booed him quite constantly on his return to the club at the start of last season.

The booing then transformed into outright hate and constant mocking of hs footballing abilities. Ade is not responsible for that kind of moronic behaviour.

  402. @ California Gooner

We’re debating right now whether we will be worse off without Adebayor. Nobody is being flamed or attacked for worrying. (Except by people who think they’re being funny.) And can you honestly say you have seen people flamed for discussing formations? They get flamed for throwing lazy insults about the players or the manager, or deliberately provoking other posters. Other people have a right to disagree – strongly – with your opinion. You have a right to say what you think – you do not have a right to veto any challenge to what you say.

The terms in which you frame your contribution has a bearing on the sort of response you get. As an example, Joe and AIC decided that RVP and AA could not play in the same team and so RVP would have to be sold. According to them, those who disagreed were not just wrong, we were “deluded”, or unwilling to face facts. Doesn’t that strike you as rather arrogant? It’s not surprising they are getting a bit of stick now. (Luckily for Robin and Andrey, Joe and AIC have now decided they can play in the same team.) Another example is your post of last night, castigating Ole Gunner for calling people imbecilic because they did not agree with him. As I pointed out to you last night, it was because their arguments were imbecilic, not because they didn’t agree with him. Can you see the distinction?

Finally, I don’t have a problem with fans who have “doubts” per se. I do have a problem with people who will not or cannot argue logically, or who respond to proffered reassurance or counter-argument from me, with accusations of complacency, delusion, or even stupidity. Which, given what they come up with sometimes, is pretty rich.

I do agree with you in disapproving of provocative remarks, insults and name-calling, but please don’t act as if it only goes one way. If you dish it out, you have to be prepared to take it. And if it’s directed at you without provocation, you don’t have to respond in kind.

    ****

    @lagooner

More fans turned against Adebayor since last summer, but the irrational haters were already a sizeable group even while he was having his annus mirabilis.

  403. but thats exactly it QoS….

you shouldnt need convincing….fans have their own mind and opinions will always be different…that doesnt mean you are trying to change someones mind….it just means you are offering a different opinion….

if nobody had an opinion then nobody would have a blog…..and sometimes…just sometimes opinions can be changed…with the help of reasoned debate and not f@ck yous or f@ck offs…

like yourself….you blogged on LG for ages….but you stayed even though you didnt like the posters… and now your on here…with different opinions….

  404. Jon Jon’s second post can be summarised as:

Eboue is a squad player, discuss Ade with me, for now.

  405. Queen of Suburbia

From the very little bits i’ve seen PZ – i quite like the look of him…very nimble, good in the air…able to ignore his own fans.

All good qualities for an Arsenal CF.

  406. Jon Jon

Don’t forget that Eboue has said that he doesn’t want to be marginalized as he was last season. This means that he will either be a disgruntled squad member (particularly with younger players coming through) or a regular fixture in the line-up or on the bench. It’s why it’s likely he won’t last more than another season. If he was happy playing as a 2nd-choice right-back and 3rd or 4th choice right-midfielder, then there would be no problems.

  407. I like the look of Chamakh: good in the air, agile, skillful, has good link up play, is bloody quick, and he was a key player in Bordeaux’ league-winning team last season. Definitely a player on the up.

He’s definitely more of an AW player than Adebayor, but whether he’ll be more effective is another matter.

Still, it behooves us to give him a warm welcome.

  408. Queen of Suburbia

Not different opinions JJ that’s unfair. I consider more a reawakening of the slighlty dormant supporter rather than allowing the critical observer to remain in the ascendancy.

  409. i agree alex the booing doesnt help….but before that was ade ever booed???

no…so it was ades fault sections of the fans felt that way by ades actions in the summer…….

the man is on 80k a week…its up to him to win those fans back…him and him alone…80k a week and 30 goals suggest he could easily….but he wasnt the same player…

and in alot of fans eyes he didnt win them back……and judging by recent developments the same can be said for the manager too…

  410. JonJon – I was kidding!

I honestly think that the lack of football (it can’t be the scotching summer we’re having) is causing everyone’s nerves to get a little to frayed at the edges.

  411. sorry Qos…

didnt mean it that way… accept my apologies…it did look unfair re reading my comment….

    your comment was better worded…

  412. “like yourself….you blogged on LG for ages….but you stayed even though you didnt like the posters… and now your on here…with different opinions….”

Man, Frank had a good quote about people changing their minds, but I came across this one the other day, which I thought was cool as well:

“Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”

    George Bernard Shaw

  413. your not wrong marc…

  414. Are “behoves” and “behoof” common words in your part of the world? I had to look them up.

  415. People here have short memories. If you let JonJon in again, you know he’s going to bore us to death with his usual rants. Think twice before getting into a discussion with him. I can summarise all he has to say without wasting acres of space.

“I can’t wait to see Ade in a blue shirt. I’ll support whoever steps up to be the first striker, as long as he scores 30 goals and wins us the title.”

  416. Ateeb – I thought you’d to be off saving the world!

  417. I will humbly apologise for bringing Eboue up. I was only kidding!

  418. Would it be to our behoof to give JonJon the hoof?

  419. QoS, OOU

What have you seen of Marouane Chamakh? I saw a YouTube clip – is that what you saw? I’m asking in case there’s something else I could take a look at.

  420. Queen of Suburbia

    No problem JJ.

  421. I looked it up recently and I still don’t know if I used it properly. They still use it in the South; I heard it in a film, thought it was odd and checked it out.

I’ll try and find out which one.

  422. OneOfUs – There’s a great one by Churchill in a similar vain. I just can’t remember it at the moment.

  423. Ah, FunGunner, what was the piece about Chamakh you mentioned earlier?

  424. atteeb…i can discuss football reasonably with anyone..even if they dont share my views…

my problem is that i get caught up in the my dicks bigger than your dicks game that you often like to play…and i dont give in…and it gives the wrong impression..

    i admit that…

  425. Queen of Suburbia

We behoof round here all the time PZ. Its tax deductable.

  426. Can you give JonJon a behoof up the behind?

  427. JonJon,

Great to see you behind Wenger for a change. If you do it all the time we’ll be fine…..

The Skysport thing, find the quotes if you can. He still never said he will leave if he didn’t get more money. To be honest, the quotes attributed to Cesc (mostly twisted and made-up) are worse than anything attributed to Ade.

What there was to discuss about his future is that there were offers on the table for him from Barcelona and AC Milan. Wenger says those clubs offered him more money. From what Flamini was paid, we get corroboration for what Wenger said.

He never asked for a payrise on national TV. He said Arsenal had to meet him halfway.

I don’t know if he knew he had Wenger by the balls. However, strikers who had worse goalscoring records than him were being paid 2ce to 3ce what he was getting. I mean I think it’s absurd that you lot complain that Ade was on £80K (reportedly) whereas Torres better striker, but similar scoring record to Ade was on £110K! Same scoring record, £30k less yet you begrudge him even that.

Wenger said that Ade stayed at Arsenal for less money than he was offered elsewhere. Wenger was in the room, you weren’t.

Robin said he wouldn’t sign unless Arsenal matched his ambitions. Which was annoying to me personally because if Robin had scored at Wembley or in the CL semis we might have won a trophy. In any case, RVP was offered more money and a new contract. He reportedly negotiated for a while for more money even then. And Adebayor never said he will leave if not paid more. Not in public. If you have some quotes or links put them up.

Ade said he wanted more money but didn’t want to leave and proved it by staying.

Ade’s BBC comment about money was simply saying that footballers are motivated by money. Big fat whoop. No news there, don’t be silly.

No I believe Ade said that the fans believed things written about him and blamed him for transfer speculation about him. He even said it was all well and good if he was getting stick for his performances. But it was unfair to blame him for clubs being linked to him. He said and was right-(that interview should serve as a wake-up call to fans) that booing players and hounding them will yield nothing. He pointed to how they’d ruined Eboue’s confidence. He said, and was right, that he simply couldn’t be happy if he scored and still got stick when the goal got announced and his name announced as goalscorer.

You’re lying that Wenger said Adebayor’s behaviour unsettled the side. Prove that one if you can.

Ade did not headbutt Nikki. I’ve looked at that video on a 100 inch screen. I think he did hit him.

Look, consider John Terry. Look up his list of litanies. Chelski are holding on to him. Xabi said he wants to leave Liverpool. Benitez is holding on to him. If you think what Ade did is remotely in the league of John Terry or Lampard or Cashley antics you’re deluded.

A mob is an unreasoning group of people. I don’t know that a majority of Arsenal fans want him out. It’s irrelevant. To me it’s a mob. You know mob behaviour when everything is based on disinformation. Ray Parlour said Ade was lazy last season, but pardon me Ray, I love you Ray, but you might have forgotten to mention that he was out injured 2ce in the season, and played with an ankle niggle for a couple of months. Not an insignificant fact if you’re going to say someone was crap and wasn’t trying. You didn’t mention that he scored 6 in 8 in the Champions League, contributing very much to only our 2nd CL semis ever. Oh you didnìt mention that based on Ade’s 1 in 2 scoring record last season, he’d have easily scored more than 20 if he had played more games. That’s how a mob acts. All sound no light,

I do agree that the Ade saga last Summer took a lot of Wenger’s time and even affected pre-season.

  428. QOS – Why the hell doesn’t my accountant know that.

  429. Queen of Suburbia

I may have read too much Phillipa Carr as a young girl.

  430. I doubt if Ateeb is arguing that your dick is bigger than his JonJon. You need a gigolo?

  431. if ade goes ole we will have nothing else to debate about….

hes the only thing we disagree on…

    end of an era…

  432. Great post as usual Yogi. I’ve followed this blog for quite a while, but I don’t think I’ve posted before.

Melo deal is indeed in the Juve website: http://www.juventus.it/site/ita/NEWS_newseventi_9A86F0EA090A4220A670BDCAB76E6060.asp

That is one of the very few real news I’ve seen in a while. The pre-season is all but started and there is almost no talk of football, I have to say I find this strange.

Why is Adebayor’s tranfer considered a certainty when almost all stories are the same and Hughes said something like “there’s been talks” and nothing else? Today’s only story in City’s site is about Dunne and includes also the usual stuff like: “We might buy someone, but don’t know who or how many”.

The UCL qualifiers are played around Europe, anyone following?

Talking about Arsenal then, I thought the piece in Guardian about Brazil’s formation in the Confederation Cup was good, and resembles Arsenal a lot.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/jun/24/the-question-brazil-4-2-3-1?commentpage=2

There was a diagram posted in the comments as well

Although that’s not exactly Arsenal, the idea that on the right there is a winger (Theo) and on the left a sort of inside forward (AA, Nasri, Vela etc.) makes sense. A little more attacking formation, and you’ll have an Arsenal 433. Any thoughts on this?

btw, jeorge birds arsenal youth-blog has written some good player profiles in recent days.

  433. I dont know about the gigolo Frank but he may need the washing machine. He loves washing his dirty linen in public.

  434. Merci beaucoup, FunGunner.

  435. Queen of Suburbia

FG he features quite promintely in a few of the Gourcuff (sp?) vids as well.

  436. Queen of Suburbia

Do you think Richard Gere would have had much of a career as an American Washing Machine?

  437. Behoof is a fantastic old word.

The Child Behoof Scheme. Behoof Fraud.

  438. put it this way guys…if ade leaves for 170 whatever k a week..will you lambast him the way you did hleb and flamini???

  439. Well point exactly, QoS. YW is ruining a perfectly honest trade.

  440. Moving off Ade for a second, is there a reasonable chance that Arsene will do a Petit with Vermaelen and have him partner with Cesc in midfield? Or is TV lacking something that will prevent him from succeeding in that position (speed to ball, distribution etc). From what we’ve seen and heard of him, he might fit the bill. He’s certainly captaincy material if Cesc ever leaves, whether he’s midfield or defence.

  441. I was quite enjoying the post Jon Jon era, except for the more than usual number of simple minded pr**** posting on here.

  442. Do a little what with Vermaelen?

  443. I am dissappointed with Ade’s decision to leave Arsenal. If indeed that turns out to be the case having been an admirer of sorts. Because if it was wasnt for Champions league football then clearly the motivation is money. Because if Man Shitty are thinking they can buy their way to success their having a laugh. They seem to forget that before Abramovich Chelsea had already been a top four tem and the nucleus of a strong team. I dont believe for a minute that Arsene does not have a master plan. Why wud he sell? I also dont think we will be shelling out on a new top striker. I am happy to be surprised by Wenger. I think Bendtner is going to be called upon to spearhead the attack.

  444. Marc @ 8. 19 PM,

That Beyonce interview made me angry. For a different reason. The Beyonce point was part of him saying that players are always flattered to be linked to top clubs. Beyonce was his own way of saying that AC Milan are glamorous. Cesc has said the same thing about AC Milan. Twice. After the last one, the Italian media said Cesc was off to Milan to replace Pirlo!

I thought Ade’s comments were wrongly timed. That’s not what you want to be talking about 2 days before a major semi-final…

It was like RVP’s ridiculous “we feel invincible” comment.

  445. give you that one Poliziano….

  446. Very unlikely lagooner. Ajax fans were saying that Vermaelen is not good in open play.

Also, Wenger admitted that he wanted to sign defenders in the last Match Of The Day interview.

  447. I feel a little strange asking this, and I certainly mean no offence to anyone, and I do genuinely mean no offence.

I had assumed that Chamakh was Black, of African Origin or whatever is taken as the current PC term until I saw the link by FunGunner.

Does this make me a racist? Personally I couldn’t give a monkeys what colour the player is, as long as he score’s lots of goals, makes defence splitting passes or great tackles but with some of the accusations that have been made on hear re: Adebayor I was curious how easy it was to “grouped” with another bunch or posters.

  448. Right so I see we have to do this f*cking boyscout f*cking tarty religious don’t like f*cking swearing f*cking crap thing now do we? Pretending we are not f*cking swearing, becuase it offends some pr*ck with a childlike brain who complains if he sees f*cking swearing written out in full. So then everyone starts using w*nky pr*cking words like feck. For f*ck sake when will people in this toad of a f*cking country grow up.

  449. Ateeb, some golden era’s are meant to be brief so that we remember them fondly.

  450. Bendtners better then Chamakh, he is pony

  451. I assumed that Chamakh was a Star Trek character. That probably makes me sad.

  452. Ole Gunner – That was my point. Have other players done a better job of deflecting press attention? Is this why Adebayor has gotten so much stick or is it something more?

  453. What are you saying, Marc? You can’t judge a person’s skin colour from his name?

  454. Frank – Just what are you trying to say?

  455. A pony is a behoofed animal.

  456. Queen of Suburbia

Have you seen him much then Dex?

  457. Fair point, Muppet, but there weren’t many of us that thought Flamini could do the job until the 2007-2008 season. Logically, Vermaelen stays in defence, but surely Arsene needs more height in front of smaller central defenders like Toure and Gallas. Arsene acknowledged it as a weakness, and is one of the reasons I think he’s persisted with Diaby and appeared to show interest in Melo. It’s also why he might just experiment with TV in that position.

  458. Poliziano – Well exacty I suppose. I hadn’t checked him out, until Adebayor leaves or we sign him I can’t get to excited. There does seem to be a ever growing number of top quality players who are of African origin.

  459. Ruud van Nistelrooy is also behoofed, and he’s scored plenty of goals.

  460. It isn’t f*cking possible to say what I f*cking wanted to say becuase f*cking swear f*cking words are now being moderated, Marc. So everyone has to indulge in this child like game as they did more than 100 years ago when they invented tw&ttish words like blooming, and blimey. This entire phenomenon is summed up by the word feck in Ireland. A country I have come to loathe over the years.

  461. lagooner – TV is playing CB, no question.

  462. Because of its pitiful lying hypocrisy.

  463. Frank-have a pint of Guiness and relax (your reply will probably be f*ck off)

  464. Frank – Ah, **** ******* **** so **** ****** I’m **** ******** **** **** **** ******** had ***** **** ***** **** *******. Enough **** OK

  465. ok-Marc. I will take your word for it. It’s the most likely outcome.

  466. lagooner,

It is unlikely that AW will experiment with TV in the defensive midfield position. If height and physical presence was the only criterion, AW would have experimented with Djourou in DM by now.

I think AW bought Vermaelen because he is a specialist physical central defender who has an eye for goal.

  467. Marc

I’m also the only one on the ‘Sign Scharner’ bandwagon. 6 million and he’s ours.

  468. Lagooner,

Well, Flamini was a midfielder to start with, not a defender. As for height, you make a point. Senderos still seems to be with us – he is 6ft 3. If Wenger does sign another central defender, we will then have, what, 6 or 7 central defenders – Toure, Gallas, Djourou, Vermaelen, Silvestre, Song and ?. I can’t see any more, unless Wenger sells one or two. I fdon’t agree that he’s persisted with Diaby because of his height. Diaby is potentially a brilliant midfielder, but he’s been inconsistent, as you know.

  469. lagooner – Isn’t he an Historian?

  470. Lol Pz @ 9:03

  471. Muppet-I said it’s one of the reasons he’s persisted with Diaby, not the only one. I also think he has outstanding potential.

As for Flamini, he was a midfielder to begin with, but not one who seemed to be able to reach the standard required to play for Arsenal’s midfield until the 07-08 season. That’s the reason I compared a possible TV switch to that of Petit, as he did make the transition to midfield. However, I’ve also yielded to Marc and agree that TV is staying in defence.

  472. Muppet, I think Diaby’s ‘inconsistency’ is more related to the number of niggling injuries he has suffered since his assault by Dan Smith. That is why I’m worried about us relying on Eduardo and Rosicky after their injuries. They could just as easily be subject to the Diaby syndrome of spending more time out than in, which is why they should be considered as ‘extras’ rather than to be relied upon or I can forsee the doomers – ‘he’s injury-prone – get rid!’ etc, etc, which has plagued Diaby.

  473. one final comment on TV. Arsene has previously referenced a new signing’s ability to play in more than one position (Ramsey, Arshavin etc). Djourou even said that Arsenal agreed to look at him as a defensive midfielder (I think Arsene was just being polite there). So if you go with the highly dodgy theory that Arsene wants a player to be able to successfully contribute in more than one position if necessary, then TV’s other role would be as a defensive midfielder because we’ve more than covered at left back.

  474. lagooner, give it up – TV will not be playing DM – he will either be a CB or LFB cover

  475. lagooner, Passenal,

Agree with both points concerning Diaby. I really hope that he can get over the injuries and become a mainstay in the midfield.

Don’t quite agree with this clamour for a defensive midfielder, but Wenger did go after Melo, so he must be after one. I personally would like the role to be filled by one of Denilson, Diaby and Song, because I think they will all come good.

  476. Passenal

If he’s cover for LB, than it’s very, very deep cover…

  477. lagooner,

When buying defenders AW seems to look at whether they are capable of playing across the backline not if they are capable of playing in another role altogether.

TV’s attributes are an ability to attack the ball in the air, hold off opposition strikers from the ball, decent recovery pace and an ability to score goals from set pieces. That would make him a central defender I hope.

  478. Arsene has been alleged to have gone for atleast 30 players already this summer. Every agent and coach uses the “Arsene rates him”, made up link, to increase the players value. I don’t buy it.

  479. lagooner,

Gibbs is still inexperienced and AW may trust Vermaelen as first choice backup for LB in very high profile/ important games in my opinion. But only for a year when Gibbs has sufficient experience.

  480. let me clarify. TV has obviously been signed as a central defender. However, Arsene has already got 5 (6 if you reference his comments about Ramsey) players who can play at LB in Clichy, Gibbs, Gallas, Silvestre, Troare. I don’t think Arsene really cared about LB cover, but wanted a central defender first and foremost. I’ll drop any talk about DM unless Arsene experiments with him, and then I’ll come back and gently remind you all what I said might happen. Otherwise, no more TV talk from me, I promise.

  481. 3 days till we see the Arsenal again!!!!! Can’t wait…

  482. I agree, Alex- I can see him using TV ahead of Gibbs this season on occasion. Not sure if it’s the right thing to do considering Gibbs’s natural ability at LB and the need to show confidence in him

  483. Frank are you trying to get moderated?

  484. I’m with you Muppet but I also think we do need an experienced mature person in central midfield. It’ll be hard to square that circle….

My idea of it is to bring in a Senna type….still hungry, still has the physical condition but well aware we can’t build the midfield around him.

  485. Senna would be manna…

  486. I dont want Ade to go, I hope there is not truth to this!

    Whats up folks!!

  487. I was told TV can play across the back line.

  488. OG,

Maybe it will still happen. Sure, experience is invaluable. In this case the speculation about Matuidi doesn’t seem to fit the bill. If the fee for Adebayor is to believed then we will still have some funds left over.

  489. I didn’t hear him being touted as a back-up RB and we don’t need a backup LB. I hope that he’s so indispensable at CB that we wouldn’t even want to move him across the line.

  490. I like Muppet believe Denilson, Song and Diaby can do the job. I each season brings the experience the player needs. Senna is a beast though!

  491. Muppet, is it a sure thing that Ade is going? if so would we gotten more money for him last season?

  492. Vermaelen can play either LB or CB. That’s what I remember the Ajax fans saying.

  493. I have been out of the football loop for a minut, I didnt even realize Man C bought all these players.
    Show me the money!!!

  494. lagooner, since anything is possible, I will happily apologise if I’m wrong, but I agree with Alex. As much as Gibbs is promising and did relatively well when thrown into the deep end, Arsene would not have chosen to use such an inexperienced player in that role if he had the choice. Because of injuries to other CB’s he was forced to use Sylvestre there where he might have chosen him to cover LB rather than Gibbs. Vermaelen gives him another experienced defender in case such a scenario presents itself again. I am hoping against hope that we’ve had our share of injuries for a while and can enjoy some good fortune in that respect next season.

  495. Paul N,

It is a sure thing. And – no, we will get a lot of money for him. Probably more than last season, as Manchester City are doing a great job in parting with their oil money :-).

  496. Passenal

Fair enough-after all, not sure outside of Gibbs and Gallas (likely starting in the team as a CB anyway) whether we want any of the other players as cover.

  497. Thanks muppet,

Millions are like pounds and dollars to these clowns.

Well now I can say what I really thought about Ade, lazy bum! Ha ha! nah just kiddin!

I will miss him, great player but I hope we slaughter Man City when we meet!

  498. Very astute point Ateeb. Seems like what Fiorentina did to Juve. Juve were interested…half-heartedly until that “Arsenal are interested, you better play ball” press release. Suddenly Juve dove in and paid £15M too much.

  499. Football without football has to be the dullest thing in the entire world.

  500. …and when you think you are at the very bottom of the pit. They tell you you can’t swearr any more.

  501. ..and that you must all be nice to each other…

  502. …and what you should do is indulge in good clean debate…

  503. …what blinking nonsense….what the flip is the blooming world coming to…

  504. Frank… have you been drinking again ??

  505. No not at all, Moopay, drink doesn’t hit the spot.

  506. Ha ha Frank… only Arsenal hits the spot.

Not long to go now. You will be put out of your misery. Can’t come soon enough, all this bloody speculation is driving me crazy.

  507. I am going to load up the painted wagon. Lady Neena is desperate to get going and Peter has never been out of the paddock. He has a wander lust, just like his mother. Was a time when we could have headed up to Barnet Fair, when it was a horse fair. Nobody does that anymore. I think we will be off tonight. See where we end up.

  508. Watch out for the highwaymen then Frank. Modern day football agents by another name. Barnet fair is now hair is it not, in your neck of the woods. You should make your way to Austria, might see the team.

  509. Have any of you guys ever thought of writing a book? Many of you have a great way with words.

Maybe Yogi, could start a aclf online piblication where some of you guys write articles.

Just a thought, could be nonsense!

“He still never said he will leave if he didn’t get more money.”

Ole, I’ve spent some time digging again this afternoon, and have come up with these quotes and links below. I think these are the things supporters hung their hats on last offseason. If you can provide follow on quotes having him retract these statements, I’d be much obliged. Anyway, the June 29 quote seems to contradict your assertion that I pasted above.

Barcelona have made a good financial offer and there is also the chance to play alongside great players. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I’ll leave. I have to prepare for my retirement. Even if you are not scoring fine goals and you have money, you can enjoy a happy retirement. The time for preparing for that moment is now. – Adebayor, June 29, 2008

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/arsenal/2304361/Arsenal-striker-Emmanuel-Adebayor-interested-in-Barcelona-move.html

‘I’m in a position that I don’t know where to play but that is normal.’

I say to you that the facts are these: I have a three-year contract with Arsenal and I have a lot of big clubs trying to buy me, and it is up to me and my agent to sit down next week and find a good solution.

  511. Why are my comments seemingly awaiting moderation now?

  512. Ole Gunner, I’m surprised at you linking to that article. I’ve never seen those quotes attributed to Arsene before and the blogger does not state where they came from. Anyone could selectively choose quotes to support whatever agenda they are trying to push.

  513. OG,

The guardian are claiming that Adebayor needs more time to decide. They are going along with this rumour that he doesn’t know how his transfer will go down in Africa.

Given that he’ll be earning more that the GDP of Togo, it probably won’t go down very well.

  514. Interesting bit at the Guardian. It’s always great to feel wanted, but then you get to the precipice and a lot of times it doesn’t feel right. Maybe that’s what he’s feeling? The money reason would be just a cover; he’s free to insist on taking less from Man City on a weekly basis. My guess is that he wants the more marquee name, even if it’s still Arsenal.

Should this unexpectedly fall through because he decides he’d still like to make a go of it at the Emirates, I have to believe that if he comes out and says all the right things and works hard, I think the big majority of fans would find themselves willing to hit the re-set button.

  515. Good point Passenal. I remember that Wenger did make those comments. Of course I don’t remember his verbatim comments. So you’re right.

  516. But the article on Goon Blog is mainly rubbish.

  517. Arsechicago – 2 links is the default setting for moderation by WordPress. Having whizzed through a shitload of porn spam, I can confirm that this is a good setting to have…

    YW

  518. Got it; thank you.

  519. If Wenger believed Adebayor’s workrate had dropped so drastically, why did he continue to play him?

  520. ACLF is home to a rag tag collection of extremely funny, witty, intelligent, erudite posters. I consider myself fortunate to post with them.
    —————————————
    QoS; Why the sarcasm?

  521. If Adebayor is really concerned about the perception in Togo that he’s leaving for the money, he can really pull off a PR coup by keeping his initial 80k and giving the rest to Togo charities. The perception is the reality. He would be leaving for the money. Really nothing wrong with that, but that’s the only reason to leave Arsenal for Man City. Sure, he would take less to play elsewhere, but why would Arsenal accept less than the 25 million being touted?

I really do wish Adebayor the best if he leaves. On balance, he’s been a real asset (and a great investment) for the club.

  522. Ah, the envious man, that soweth tares amongst the wheat by night.

  523. Ahh, the fat faceless conglomerate who doesnt give a shite about his fellow man, and have no affinity with the poor of the world.

You are truely a sad c*nt…

Smug twats like you fuck me off. Im a socialistm what are you fat man?

  524. and who is the envious man, Poliziano?

  525. Ahh, the fat faceless conglomerate who doesnt give a shite about his fellow man, and hath no affinity with the poor of the world.

You are truely a sad c*nt…

Have you never heard of Socialism?

  526. Arse Chicago – “Hit the reset button.” That is simply an exquisite 21st century way “to forget and to forgive.” I doubt if there is any way back really … and this is coming from someone who “loved” Ade as an Arsenal player. IF, that Guardian report is true, Ade’s motivations are really more complex than than these experts on laziness and greediness have represented.

Frank – I agree with you 100%. When the f*ck did an Arsenal supporters blog become a ladies tea party? It is a place to support and to give short shrift to those who either innocently or deliberately undermine the team. Sorry Cali-Goone, I can’t agree with your appeal to order and decorum. The enemies of AW and AFC do not play by those rules. In the rough and tumble of football supporters you never win by high falooting talk. For example, QOS may be very measured in her comments but she has a very sharp pen/keyboard. My mantra, without being personally disrespectful, give as much as you are prepared to receive . FFS!

  527. Ahh, the faceless conglomerate apologist who doesnt give a sh*te about his fellow man, and hath no affinity with the poor of the world. dOESNT GIVE a fig about child poverty and thinks that by simply typing inane garbage on here can be a smug tw*t ad infinitum…

You are truely a sad c*nt…

Have you never heard of Socialism?

  528. lagooner;

Polizi took offence coz I dared to question big business and said that there was racist tendanciies within their macho middle class confines.

Of course, one may want to question Polizi’s motives for this attack on me, maybe he is a male, middle class white racist, or has been in the pay of such a faceless conglomerate, or maybe he is just a smug, git who has nothing better to do?

  529. Instead of being in a chatroom, fellas, why don’t you hit the streets of London and make people pledge their undying love of all things Arsenal, lest they feel the full force of your lead pipes and sacks of doorknobs?

  530. So you don’t think fans could forgive and forget? It’d be interesting to see to say the least.

  531. Alright, get some sleep gents. I’m sure everyone will be back here tomorrow arguing the same stuff.

  532. Thanks Spike. Be aware of those making biblical references. Might be a sign of pomposity…

  533. Funny how people get called racist for slating Ade, yet when certain inane inadequaites repute the fact big business is a haven for racists, not one says a word… That sh*ts alright is it?

Didnt realise this place was a haven for racists too??? Shame that

  534. lagooner;

    So, you seen that too?

Nice one, thought it was just me… and the gi*p makes out butter dont melt and is a true Gooner

  535. ArseChicago,

Those quotes are obviously not from the Telegraph. If you read it, that’s clear.

Tell me what was the original source of the article and I’ll give you an answer.

    Did Giles Mole interview Adebayor?

Also, pay attention, and you’ll see that I never said there are no quotes attributed to Adebayor about pay or leave. There are all kinds of comments attributed to our players. There was the Andrey is unhappy with Cesc & RVP story for example, complete with quotes. Or the more recent Andrey wants to be off to Barca, complete with quotes.

When we heard from Adebayor, and it was not tabloid stuff, he never said pay me or I leave. The interviews he did. I am quite sure I mentioned the Sky interviews.

  536. Spike

Having been questioned about my gooner loyalty for daring to question Adebayor’s commitment to the cause, I’ll always give someone the benefit of the doubt when it comes to supporting Arsenal.

I’ve been a supporter for 33 years, when as a six year old, the Arsenal shirt was the only team left in the shop for my granny to buy. 1976 wasn’t a vintage year for us, I guess. Having said that, it doesn’t make me less of a fan than someone who has 50 years of support behind them or more of a fan than someone following the team for 10 years

I was only a fan for 3 years when I first shed tears for the team (when United pulled it back to 2-2 in the final after I told my mum that we shouldn’t have brought on Walford). A year later it was Valencia and losing on penalties after the thrill of seeing Kempes miss the first one.

We all bring different experiences in supporting the team. We should celebrate that rather than compete for #1 fan position.

  537. California Gooner

Thanks for the comments and all else guys — I had some ‘real’ work I had to do…

  538. California Gooner

Ole, that is an interesting article re Adebayor. I was a bit on the fence about him. I think he is a very good player (despite how you might interpret my stance on the Derby Goals debate)… I agree with one of your statements that Bendtner, despite his size, is not really a substitute. But I think the team might be better without him. The team also improved after Henry’s departure two seasons ago because it became the impetus for everyone to step it up and led to that amazing spirit of fight and togetherness that carried us into first place. Ade’s departure will create that space and I think there are several players just waiting for the vacancy to step up and show us what hey can do.

  539. Cali Gooner,

I just want to say that I think your posts over the past few days have been a absolute joy to read.
In particular your call for leniency to those genuine fans who have legitimate and substantiated doubts about certain things, without being labelled a troll / doomer – whatever black or white pigeon holes people choose – shows a distinct lack of thought.
I also thought it was admirable the way you defended AIC and NYmarccus. AIC insights were always insightful and his absence is a loss to the quality of this blog. But I do think we’ll see him/her very soon again.

Fungooner – I will address your thoughts and opinions on me tomorrow / in the morning GMT when I have both the time and patience your input deserves.

Spike – keep up the milligan humour. Its refreshing and funny!….peanut butter….. heh!

  540. California Gooner

    Thanks Joe for the acknowledgment.

  541. Let him go.
We’ve got Simpson. He may not be the most technically gifted player but he’s a Gooner !!!! That’s worth giving the lad a run out.

  542. Ade is having second thoughts?

It seems that it is Ade who is pushing for the transfer as I just cannot see Wenger wanting to get rid of him.

  543. I saw that Paul N, but his haters will say he only stayed because he was afraid what his fellow citizens in Togo will say not because he wanted to play for Arsenal.

The guy is not going to win in any way.

  544. I love you full….ha ha …mbah surip…You know

  545. Hey guys…if Wenger has ambition..he should go for Etoo..I bet Barca are willing to sell for 15 mil or so because he is refusing to sign the deal and they dont want to lose him for free next year….

The only thing that may prevent him coming is his wage demands….

Most other clubs say they are finished buying…so we would not have much competetion…….

Only Milan because they seem to be losing out on Fabiano

  546. GOod article

    Ade-bashing gets so tiring

  547. Ade is having cold feet.

Maybe he wont go after all. But there will be repercussions. I tend to remember a certain Mr. Gallas

  548. Matters football.

Some complex system I was thinking about.

    I have called it a 2 – 3 – 2 – 2 – 1

Its dependent on Gibbs and Eboue’s Attributes when going forwad

    —————–RVP

    —Rosicky

    ————–Arshavin

    ————————Nasri

    ———-Cesc

    Gibbs——–Dennilson—–Eboue

    ————Galls—— Toure

    —————–Almunia

  549. California Gooner

Did you guys see this rumor: “Bordeaux have told Arsenal that their €8 million bid for Marouane Chamakh will only be accepted if Mikael Silvestre is thrown in as well.” I mean, I would even offer to send Bordeaux an old chair that I don’t use any more … or any other junk, if they just ask for it.

  550. arsenalkabisa

In reality, this looks suspiciously like the 4-5-1 but with just a little more vulnerability in defence. Arsene allows so much interchanging that the 4-5-1 can achieve much the same effect (given the need) as your formation. They just press a little more on the flanks.

It’s also a shame I like the bench better than at least half the first team (Sagna, Clichy, Eduardo, Walcott, Song, Bendtner for example). And that’s before we see how good TV and any more new recruits do.

    California Gooner

This just sounds too damn good to be true.

  551. ACLF is becoming a blog for sanctimonious sycophants. On my way to Dover to see if I can blag my way onto a ferry with two horses a painted wagon, and…..not sure I should mention this…a rather frisky seventh wife, what! I’ll say! Wayhay!…..whoops spilt my tea…. come on Neena settle down now.

    Adebayor, Adebayor….Adebayor, Adebayor….

  552. So now the rumour mill swings another way. Why don’t the fuckwits just wait for the club to make an announcement?

  553. I hope Ade doesn’t leave. Looks like he will, but I don’t want him to leave like this. He is an Arsenal character for me. I still look at Kanu and think….Arsenal player…same with Ade. I am much more fond of him than I am the vast majority of Arsenal supporters I have met on this blog. He does things his own way. I like that.

Anway, wherever you are Ade…if you have to go….good luck, son. Stay safe.

Off to see a man who is going to get us across the Channel in a boat his grandfather used to bring back troops from Dunkirk. Secret. Imagine…a wagon, two horses and two lovelorn gypsies being smuggled into France. You couldn’t make it up.

    …..Arsenal….

    Adebayor, Adebayor…..Adebayor, Adebayor

  554. @CG

I have read that too. i wish it goes through, coz that would mean that Senderos stays!!!

But theres some article that I read and it was highlighting Arsenal’s strong points for the coming season, and it showed how for the first time we have Experience, Youth, And players at their peak in the right proportion. I wonder how that would be affected if Sylvestre goes (Experience)

    @LA gooner

Yap i know it does. But Rosiscky plays so advanced, almost on RVP’s left shoulder

While Nasri is not realy a winger, but a work horse on the right, and a foil for Eboue (How ramirez plays for Brazil)

While Gibbs and Eboue are not realy Left and right Backs but LB/RB/wingers.

Cescs role is to pick passes, hide behind Rosicky, feed off Nasri’s industry, and start moves from Dennilson, plus paly trianlges with Arshavin

Denilson is a shield, hide behind Cesc’s and Nasri’s Guile and create an outlet for the team when under pressure

  555. Gooner, Dont worry there wont be any more Ade bashing at the ground as from a couple of hours.

arsenalkabisa, Denilson’s not a bad player but Song brings more to the table going forward. What happened with Mello? Would of been a good signing

  556. So you are going via P&O Ferries then Frank ? 🙂

  557. Arsenalkabisa, your formation also reminds a little bit of the ‘Brazilian 4-2-3-1. I posted a link about it earlier (at 8:49 pm yesterday), but it was stuck in moderation because it had three links.

Note to self: use less linkage…

YW, does the wordpress have the option of adding a captcha field to prevent the evil pornlink sending bots?

  558. FOOK ME !!!!!!

I wake up and I find, to my FOOKING amazement that Ade is still at Arsenal.

FOOK ME !!!!! Somebody explain to me why.

You’ve got some explaining to do Arsene.

The silence from the club is amazing, everyone knows Ade is going to leave, but no line from the club !!!

As for this rumour that Bordo want Silvester, FOOK ME !!!!!! Hire concorde to take him their. If that doesn’t work I’LL drive him there personally.

Arsenal are in hiding. Everybody knows.

Wenger will HAVE to do a press conference on Saturday. I WILL be watching.

Personally I expect to see Wenger on Friday with TWO new players next to him in a press conference, and those players being unveiled at the Barnet game.

If it doesn’t happen then FOOK ME !!!

  559. Waiting for your reply Arsechicago from yeserday. Whenever you’re up in Chicago.

  560. ole you are right about one thing i’d rather keep ade then replace him with whoever the fuck chamakh is.

  561. Ole Gunner, Do you think we need to strengthen in any positions before the season starts or are you happy with the squad as it stands?

  562. Jimbo,

Why don’t you post your anti-Wenger tripe on here. We could all do with a good laugh.

  563. Muppet, because I’m not anti-wenger you muppet, I’m anti-no effort footballers

  564. Errr…. so what is this post on LG:

    “Sharkey,

Over the last year or so, I’ve come up with a number of suggested names to replace Wenger, who yes, has been a clueless twat since 2005. The problem is, it’s hard to know who’s available at any one time. Personally, I’d consider the following:

    David Moyes
    Laurent Blanc
    Didier Deschamps
    Ottmar Hitzfeld
    Guus Hiddink
    Louis van Gaal

But it depends on who’s available. Ultimately though, to improve on Wenger, we someone who’ll ditch his deluded approach to squad building, obsession on proving that Arsenal can win with kiddies, and understands the importance of some fundamental footballing concepts, like ‘Captaincy’, ‘The central midfield’, ‘the importance of winning trophies’.”

Is that your twin brother ?

  565. Muppet, I’ve had this conversation twice now you muppet. Thats not me, Jimbo isnt exactly an exclusive name is it, would you rather me call myself James? Thats fine. Trust me muppet I admit what I really think, I’d enjoy the debate. How can anyone honestly argue with wengers record? Its impossible to say bad things about the man because they would obviously not be true. I’ll post as James from now on

  566. Now you’ll probably go and find some comments from someone called James and say its me. Then I’ll have to change my name to something like
J-Dog and I really dont want to do that

  567. The only glaring thing missing in our squad is maturity, and experience in central midfield. It’s not a lack of quality for my money.

I am also worried about Mannone. Not sure he’s ready yet. Perhaps we need another goalkeeper to make Almunia and Fabianski sit up even more.

Most of what we need should be corrected in pre-season. The midfielders have to really work hard on defending….Cesc has to carry his weight in the centre of the park. Arshavin, Theo & whoever plays wide has to give cover to the full backs.

The full backs should work on stopping crosses. Given how good our full backs are 1-on-1 we let in too many crosses. We’ve improved on defending set pieces, and more improvement is needed.

We have to work on our counterattacking.

You’ll probably be surprised that I won’t insist we need a new striker. I have confidence in the ones we do have. Wenger can always switch how we play even if we lack the outlet Ade gave us. Bringing in a new striker/changing the team to attack in a different way = the same thing (to me).

  568. Muppet, please, call me J-Dog, Joke

  569. And just as I wrote about that goalkeeper thing, I was told there’s speculation Wenger is in for Fabio, a Brazilian keeper who plays for Cruziero.

  570. I think we are adequately covered in the keeper department tbh. Almunia was a success last year and Fabianski whilst still raw will come on again.

  571. Plus haven’t we just signed a young irish keeper for the youth team?

  572. Ole Gunner, I think Ades absence (if it happens) could benefit Bendtners psyche, it could give him the cinfidence he needs to step it up a notch. I thnik he deserves a chance after the great effort he was showing at the end of last season.

I’ve also thought we needed a keeper for a while now, I really rate Almunia but I think Fabianski has alot to learn mentally. Are there any good keepers out there though?

Do you think TV will start? I really dont know who wenger would drop out of Gallas and Toure becuase they are very similar

  573. QoS,

Do you think Mannone is ready? Is he pushing Fabiansk & Manuel? I honestly don’t know. In the reserves game I saw, he wasn’t tested much.

It’s me wondering. Does anyone know?

  574. I personally think Toure and Gallas are our best 2 centre halfs, and should play.

What’s so similar about Toure and Gallas?

  575. Of the games I saw him play last year, he looked solid and I believe well thought of at the club.

I really don’t see GK as a problem position.

  576. Ole Gunner, Size, Both good footballing defenders. It sounds as if TV has been brought in to compliment one of them, he’s supposed to be particularly strong in the air which could solve the set piece problem. I could be wrong. You disagree?

  577. Ole, Galas is getting on a bit as well actually isn’t he so maybe this season will be his last at the club

  578. OK QoS…He didn’t do too badly in the Stoke game…

  579. James,

Maybe, maybe not. He may leave, he may not. Useful answer?

  580. Ole Gunner, extremely

  581. now ade has been hounded out by the fools.. who will be the scape goat for next season if we play some poor games…. You know that saying you never know what you got till it’s gone.. People make sweeping statements based on tabloid press.. who said he was a bad influence in the dressing room.. who said that he was disliked by his fellow team mates.
We have lost a very good striker who would have been back to his best in this coming season (since he would have been surrounded by first teamers (including Ros, Ed Ces, Ash, Den, San Gal etc).
The Plan was to keep the team together and make some additions…

I have total respect for Ade.. and believed he was perfect for Arsenal.
If I Ade I would leave too and tell the fans to go F@@k themselves…

Although we are part of this so called big four some the fans with their venom has reduced our standing in world football… Which bloody footballer woud want to join Arsenal now.
couple years ago every quality footballer and his dog wanted to join Arsenal… not so anymore… not when you publicly humiliate your players when they have off days on the pitch.

I don’t mind constuctive critism and analysis about a player but when it comes to personal attacks, double standards and xenophobic reactions it turns my stomach…

I hope Ade doesn’t go, but if he does I wish him all the success.

    Aint that the bloody troof

  582. me i would rather we sell no one; just for the stability of entering a new season with additions to the squad only; no subtractions!

Does on do a medical before discussing wages? To answer my own question, i guess yes cos they should know u are healthy enough to be employed in the first place right?

  583. By the way, Good day all…

Ade should stay; just make up his mind once and for all and stay instead of this every summer speculations and near misses!

  584. Team spirit, some of the Ade reports seem curious. Like the work permit hearing for a player who’s been in england 3 years, and was Captain of his national team….

  585. The Troof, thats only the truth from your point of view though isn’t it? I take it you were at the ground last season supporting the club and Adebeyor like you say? Lets leave the Ade subject now though because my views obviously cause people to get annoyed even though I’m only telling the truth my my point of view

  586. James of course it’s from point of view. Anyone with any common sense cannot ignore the damage that has occured to the Team through the negative crap from the fans

  587. Ole

Nothing unusual in the work permit situation. He does not have a British or EU nation passport, is not from a British colony / dependency so therefore cannot work in this country without a Permit.

    YW

  588. TheTroof, Negativity from fans is a factor but it happens at every club in the world, Its not right, but it happens every week almost everywhere. Truly great footballers know how to handle it, or even thrive off it. I’m not saying its right, espcecially booing players at the ground, but it is part of the game and is not a valid excuse for a player not to do his job to the best of his abilities, IMO

  589. YW,

Yes but is it routine to have a hearing which the player has to attend? I know foreigners need a work permit. But usually you just send the documents. Wrong?

  590. The Troo, Actually not even truly great footballers should know how to handle it, any professional player whilst growing up in the game is proabaly coached on the mental aspect of the game and how you cant let it effect you or you dont stand a chance. Adebeyor is a mentally strong guy, anyone can see that. Look what happened with his national team, he didn’t care what anybody said to him. The fans contibuted maybe 10% to ades decison to leave (if he goes), IMO.

  591. You’re being rather definitive about your claim that the player didn’t do the job to the best of his abilities. Have some hard evidence that he wasn’t?

  592. yes ole but those documents require a signature…if ades signature wasnt on those documents he would of been required to attend a meeting to sign them…

it wouldnt be a case of an actual meeting…more of a case of ade popping round to someones office to sign his name

  593. james I don’t know any team in the prem league who has booed THEIR OWN PLAYER to the point they are frightened to touch the bloody ball.

these players are human and will have human responses to adverse situation.. an Arsenal player running for the ball looks across to the fans and see arsenal fans spitting venom and crap at him… who in their right mind wouldn’t be affected by that…

  594. ole Gunner, Well this is why its only IMO. I can only go by what I saw with my own eyes. Ade was an animal the season before, he was like an unstoppable monster terrorising the defeces of the other teams and never seemed to stop running. Last season he was strolling, shrugging, not getting up quickly, not getting back onside quickly, not concentrating and being caught off side, sloppy passing. I know he scored a few but so did Kewyne Jnes and Darren Bent, would you want them at Arsenal? Can I stress at this point that this is only IMO, and I dont mean to cause any offence. I am also kind to animals, am a pretty decent footballer and a keen golfer. I’ve also developed a strange obsession with the Queen of Surburbia, she’s cool

  595. JonJon they said he went for a hearing….anyway, it was probably just misreporting. It could be that the docs were sent, and that’s what the hack refers to as a hearing. Dunno…

  596. Ole Gunner, maybe it was a hearing where he was interogated by people saying ‘Man city?, Are you being serious?, Man City? How do you plead?’

  597. Could there be other reasons for what you say you observed? And yes I did observe that is some games but only after he came back from injury.

My problem is that you’re condemning somebody (with serious implications for player and club) on something that might not be correct.

  598. Ole Gunner, okay I can accept that, but its there in my head so what can you do?

I hope he goes to Milan, I’ll have a bit more respect for him then

  599. The Troof, All clubs have players which a section of the fans couldn’t stand, and remember, the really vicious stuff only happened after Ade openly lifted his skirt to Milan, so that was his mistake, what did he expect a pay rise AND a cuddle, it was never going to happen.

  600. Jesus Christ, do you have examples of fans of any club or ours hounding out a player for “lifting his skirt” to another club?

I remember countless episodes in which players did that, and didn’t get a public mauling.

  601. OG here here

  602. Ole Gunner, chelsea tried to hound out Drogba but he just fought through it. Lampard was hounded out of West Ham for doing absolutely nothing, tottenham hound out half of there squad for being crap. Adebeyors ‘mauling’ wasn’t that bad, relatively speaking
