Tom & Bob: All In, All Out

Remember the TR7? No, not Tomas Rosicky but the Triumph TR7, a fine example of all that was wrong with the British car industry in the ’70s. Promised so much, delivered for a while and then invariably ended up in the knackers yard. The player is somewhat more refined than his namesake car yet the same problems have arisen. However, unlike the car, Rosicky is apparently on the verge of rising from the ashes. Well, the end of next summer if reports are to be believed.

According to comments attributed to him this morning, Rosicky has the 2009/10 campaign to prove himself worth a new contract. The regard that his manager holds him in shows through in the one quote:

If I find the form I had before my injury then I will play. Wenger was frustrated when I told him I would need to undergo more surgery. But he has not tried to kick me out so he has faith in me.

For Rosicky it must hae been infinitely more frustrating to be on the sidelines than it was for us as supporters to know the talent was laying idle. His form before injury was excellent, one of the major reasons for the title challenge in 2007/08 with 7 goals in 25 games, a more than decent return for a midfielder. If, and it is a big IF, he is fully recovered the prospect of a midfield containing himself, Fabregas and Arshavin is indeed a mouth-watering thought. Should he prove his fitness, there is little doubt he will be offered a new contract. It would be an interesting test of loyalty if a wallet-bulging amount of cash were to be put in front of him in January.

One contract that is being resolved soon is hopefully that of Robin van Persie. Reports from unreliable sources say that a meeting is to be held this week to resume the negotiations. That is not good enough for a contradictory Charlie Nicholas, short of a bob or two now that Soccer Saturday is over:

Van Persie’s playing a daft game saying he wants to know what the future holds for him. Who the hell is he to ask Wenger or Arsenal that? To be fair…he put in a good shift last season. But that doesn’t mean he should start throwing this stuff at the manager’s door – wanting to know who’s going to be coming in before signing a contract. He’s had plenty of chances, just like the rest of them, to do something about it – and, at the end of the day, it just hasn’t been good enough.

Nicholas knows a thing or two about underperforming Arsenal teams, having been a key member of the 1980s version. I am sure that Charlie never held a club to ransom and in no way played silly buggers over his contracts at all. And to be fair to van Persie, he is not playing silly buggers. As far back as three months ago, he made it clear that these negotiations are not about money since the club’s offer was more than satisfactory. He has a desire to win and wants to know that the club can achieve that.

The same issue which Rosicky may face can also be said to exist for van Persie. During his time at the club, he has missed more than one season of games through injury, the major ones being caused whilst on international duty. Should he sign simply through loyalty or some debt that could be said to exist for supporting him through the bad times as well as good? It probably does but at the same time, he has to be happy within himself, that he can achieve that which he desires, that which drives him on, with Arsenal.

Nicholas ranted that Adebayor, Eboue, Djourou and Gallas – “If he is not up for it” – go this summer. It always amazes me when people want wholesale clearances of players. One of the reasons Wenger has been successful in the past and will be so in the future, is that his sides evolve. They do not turn up with the flourish of a chequebook. Bergkamp last week observed that new signings pep up a squad. No argument with that but when the areas of the squad that need strengthening have their heart ripped out, it strikes me that the opposite effect would occur.

The weakness of Nicholas’ arguments are shown with his assessment of Adebayor:

If you’ve not got a striker scoring 25 goals a season with the number of chances they create, then there’s something wrong. He’s not fitting in.

So Adebayor should have scored a goal every game last season then, eh Charlie? Never let a fact get in the way of a populist rant. No doubt Nicholas would criticise the fans for displaying an “I want it now” attitude if they espoused the same theories.

Hot and sunny this morning so play nicely. ’til Tomorrow.

  1. Wow! The TR&… What a car…. Hahahaha!

Im sure Charlie Nicholas was smashed out of his tree when he made those comments…

  2. Ya its not about money..right… you’ll see he wants big fat contract to match Fabregas. He’s being playing a good game in the media.
Clearly we’ll never match his ambition…”winning every competition”. Personally I’d sell. He’s great player that does’nt suit our team. Wenger plays 4-2-3-1 right through the arsenal set up….with a fast striker, Not VanPersie and we have better players for the 3 behind or we could buy them (VanDerVaart/Snejder come to mind)

  3. I totally agree about Charlie Nicholas rant YW, it was a bit harsh and not based on facts. Specially about Adebayor.

He has not played the full season as he played the previous one, plus he was the lone striker when he scored 30. Some one had to pull the weight and that was Van Persie.

I also agree about these stupid whole sale changes which definitely would have the opposite effect on the team.

This team only needs the final touches, and could be the best team ever to come through for Arsene and Arsenal.

Let the man figure it out…

  5. I think Sepp Blatter is a secret lover of the English Premier League, and he is so pleased to have the stain of the lesser Ronaldo cleaned from it that he will not even moan about the inflated price. Even man utd fans (who, let’s admit it, can hardly be averse to an arsehole) hate him.

  6. ”winning every competition”

Surely he didn’t mean all in one season, probably he wants to left all the trophies PL, CL, and FA.

Even if he does, why not win every competition? If you don’t dream, you don’t live and if you don’t play, you don’t win.

  7. Yogi…whilst Charlie Nick has the right to say what he believes because he has been there and done it, you on the other hand have armchair status mate.

What he says about (a) VP, is right on the money. This is a player who has been shielded in more ways than one through his dodgy past exploits and has been out for long periods of the season but paid for it. AW has shown a loyalty second to none. As a Gunner he should sign because he loves the club..if not go to Milan asap.

and (b) Chas has every right to line up the vgroup who caused AFC more than enough problems last year and suggest they should be moved out.We have a great squad and it would NOT be weakened by the sale of at least 3 of them. I would get rid of mecenaries like AdeB and Gallas who obviously are not liked much by the other lads and have lost the love of the fans. Why? well Gallas was a disgrace during his captaincy and only played well after he had it taken away. AdeB, well he has never been the same after being tapped up by Milan or his agent tapped them up? Anyway he strolled through most of last year and was missing whilst on the field in the very big matches. In fact he was not missed much when we had a few other strikers back from injury. Eboue well he seems to have learned his lesson…cutting out most of his diving and playing his heart out in any position Aw needed him to play. He has the skill to be a good suad man we have seen it when he came into the team at right back. As for Djourou , well I dont understand Charlies words on him because I think he has been treated badly by Arsene. He came in several times last year and as soon as he settled into being one of our best performers, he was dropped because someone else was fit???
I think he and Eboue deserve a chance. The others…sell them and buy players who are desperate to play for the club.

  8. The Doomer's INC.

We encourage Doomers to apply as soon as possible. We will be monitoring this blog today. Shortlisted candidates will be informed, by 0500 today.

Gunnerpete we encourage you to apply. You have the flare, to achieve greatness in our corporation. Don’t be discouraged if you’re not an Ex-Arsenal player. You could twist the words of some Ex-Arsenal player’s and that’s just as good.

  9. Great article, very very good argument. The most remarkable thing for me is, there is a strong relationship between the people who moan about the ‘squad size’ are the ones that want ‘wholesale clearance’. And David Villa of course.

There could be a shift of power to the Spanish league in the near future. This will hinder all clubs in debt, except Arsenal to some degree. The controlled manner in which our Great Manager and board have run us, means we could survive a decline in Premiership revenue.

I am grateful to the club for how it is run. At 27 I have years of following Arsenal to come. I do not want to risk them years for a title this year or next.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  10. Am I the only one who notices the fundamental flaw in GunnerPete’s initial argument and comment?

    YW

  11. With so many flaws to choose from, how did you find the fundamental one?

  12. I doubt it Yogi!

  13. Have we signed Buffon yet?

  14. Im quite surprised at the quotes attributed to Chas. He normally seemed a bit more rational than the likes of Merse and Wright-Wrongun, to me.

He thinks we should sign a keeper. Bit to me, Almunia has been solid and dependable and made many match saving, erm, saves last season, not to mention world class ones too. His improvements in the last couple of seasons has been phenomenal…

BUT, we should deffo get rid of Cesc, RvP, Clichy and Nasri, coz they’re all shite, IMO.

  15. Bilo like Rosicky. We spent much time in cage together. Bilo think if Rosicky escape from cage and play many games for Arsenal next season, Arsenal will win titles.

Bilo no understand why people not in cage want to sell players. Bilo think squad is two experienced players short – left wing and central defence. Why sell players as soon as they become experienced?

  16. YW, I’ve found two, so is one much more fundamental!

    Brdgunner
I read Paul Haywards observer piece this morning in which he talks of the transfer of power to Spain.

He views the players that are there as the attraction and names several that did not come to the EPL. Yet he ignores the ( and I hate myself for using the term ) product itself.
Many of the players named did not go to the EPL because of the physical nature of the game, and fair enough. But it is this added speed and strength that makes it attractive. I think La Liga is right up there with the EPL but I do not think the power is shifting just yet. There will be more pressure on the sale of own TV rights though especially with the problems with Steanta and the Money Madrid have accumulated.

  17. Bilo also like Yaya Toure for defensive midfield.

Bilo like Ryan Babel as left wing and Hangeland at central defence.

  18. Ade is class and hopefully he will stay

  19. Should we be putting Susan Boyle, Tony Adams…and now Charlie Nick in the same ward?

  20. The Doomer's INC.

No they’ll be working in different departments for us.

Milan sign a 21 year old defender. Hint Hint, Sendros. Time to come back home.

  21. Grim

The fundamental flaw is the assertion that I am indeed only a supporter and by inference, my opinion counts for less than for a former player. That Nicholas and I share one thing in common – we are armchair managers – is conveniently missed out of GP’s observations.

GP then proceeds to give his opinion which as a supporter is by his own inference, worthless.

    YW

  22. I was gonna say that….

  23. GunnerPete, using your argument you are an armchair manager too and I should’nt have bothered to read your comment. Charlie Nicholas was a good servant of the club but ex players can not play armchair manager any more than the fans surely?

  24. Charlie Nick’s Team for next season;

    Rob Green
    Sagna Wheater Upson Gibbs
    Silva Cesc Nicky Butt Arshavin
    RvP Dean Ashton

  25. Tony Adams team for next season;

    Aristotle
    Cafu Mussolini Baresi Pluto
Picasso Joe Pesci Cesc Jimi hendrix
    Arthur Scargill Lech Walesa

  26. Fabregas' Dad

I’d prefer Adebayor staying because we won’t replace him if he leaves, unfortunately that may not be possible considering his relationship with the fans and if he plays like he did last season then Bendtner should replace him. Although in fairness to Adebayor injury kept interrupting his campaign and he still managed to score 16 goals, but his attitude is just annoying and his intelligence on and off the pitch is subnormal.

  27. How many GCSEs did he get?

  28. Gunner From Nigeria

The number of ex players coming out these days to say one or two strange things about the Arsenal is alarming. First it was Tony Adams and now this.

If the job of a manager happens to be a bed of roses why did they go into management to know where the shoes aches. They should all hold their lips.

  29. Fabregas' Dad

For fuck’s sake, we need Gallas. If we sell a centre back, make it Silvestre; Gallas should be last on the list to go. Djourou, Toure and Silvestre are all easily replaceable, Gallas is not.

I would sell Diaby, Silvestre, possibly Adebayor and the priorities for me would be one or two new centre backs, a new (defensive) midfielder and another winger because if Cesc gets injured we’ll have no one to deputise unless we move Nasri/Rosicky into the middle in which case we’ll need another winger and Arshavin is more of an attacking midfielder and prefers to play further up the pitch than a winger. Diaby, Vela, Eboue and Walcott aren’t great wingers.

Why am I even doing this? Damn summer…

  30. Wingers……we got to bring in a few of those. Where do you get wingers from? Can they cut inside or should they continue to run and cross, untill they get tired?

  31. Paul Merson’s team for next season;

    Frank Bough
Pablo Escobar Paul McGrath River Phoenix
George Best Paul gascoigne Cesc Paul Merson
    Pete Docherty Amy Winehouse

  32. How many days to the first match?

  33. “How many days to the first match?”

    Far too many!

  34. Thank you for your response YW.

I see now that what I thought were two, are in fact one and therefore fundamental.

I do shake my head when people have a go and then commit the very self same crime.

    Spike, LOL.

  35. Just watching the season review 2007-2008. IMO:), I think what we lacked this season were Hleb and Rosicky. Or in other words, some playmakers. Our team requires more than just Cesc to create the play, and this season we were literally playing with just RVP trying dictate play, for the larger parts of the season. Nasri, played his part as well, but you couldn’t expect too much from him, given it was his debut season. It is no wonder than that, with Arshavin’s arrival the team started to click again. And you could see the return of us playing the wengerball, for lack of a better term. Which frankly speaking, we hadn’t played for the first half of the season, apart from a few exceptions, such as manu, chelsea, fenerbache.

Secondly, Cesc scored around 14 goals the previous season, primarily because he had other players to feed him the ball in the right positions. I really hope we see Rosicky return back to to fitness, and play his part in the next season. Or else I would like us to buy another attacking midfielder, in Rosicky/Hleb mould.

  36. Why have all the Doomers and Doubters turned up on this blog?

So many of these posters have spent the entire year slagging Ade, Gallas, Eboue, Denilson et al all over the internet. Their shoddy arguments, treacherous support and general stupidity has been shot to pieces on this blog. Suddenly Charlie Nicholas, who has no experience or success in management, gives them a new lease on life and they turn up to repeat the same b-s.

Thanks Spike – tell them to take their stupid fantasies elsewhere and shove off. (You know who you are – at least post under a different name FFS.)

  37. The people who call for wholesale clearances need to think it through a little more. ManU have been the most successful team over the last few seasons. If you look at the comings and goings over this period Fergie brings in 1 – 2 players and maybe loses 1 – 2 a season. This keeps a core together and allows new players time to adjust and slot into a stable team. If you look at the opposite method I’ll use the Spud’s, a new manager every 18 months and with new manager a whole raft of new players who are then booted out when the next guy comes in.

  38. What a star you are Spike.

  39. Aww gee shucks muppet… means soooo much comin from you… No seriously….

  40. Marc;

It does seem odd that we are constantly told our squad aint big enough, that we lack strength in depth, yet then go on to say we should offload 5+ players!!! Crackers!

But we should sell Almunia, Theo and Bendtner though…

  41. Spike you forgot about Denilson, Diaby, Clichy, Eboue and some other foreign craps. Ring in the changes I say! Some heads are gonna roll.

  42. hello, this is my first time ever posting here…

Since this blog is known for their positive outlook on everything arsenal, i would like to know what most on here think about these following blog posts…

WENGER OUT!! And he can take the THICK Arsenal fans with him!!!

[Vote] Was Graham a better manager then Wenger?

Wenger throws his teddy bear out of the pram

    Whats wrong with our “FANS”?

you guys may have read these posts some time ago but i was just wondering what’s your take on them…

  43. Don’t worry Spike, we won’t have any players left if the media has it’s way – Cesc is just waiting for a call from his hero and then he’s off too!

  44. Yeah, saw that ‘story’ Passenal… Cesc happy at Arsenal, but a call from Pep would change all that….

Sheeesh, these ridiculous stories maunfactured by Spanish (in this instance) reporters firing loaded question after loaded question at a player until they get something they can use to create a headline!

“So, Cesc, you must have some kind of affinity with barcelona, given that you were born, raised and lived here with your family for your formative years…”

“Nah, its an effin insignificant little shit hole that I wouldnt wish on that mahogany veneered tango twat Phil brown or Fat Fwank Lampard, you bunch of delusional putas! When I do leave Arsenal, Im fuckin off to that mob down the road in Madrid! Now they are more than a fuckin club, you mugs!”

Lets see the barca press work that one round to their liking…

  45. lets keep the same team as last season and we will see what happens!

  46. Very simple indeed. Nothing new Kirby?

  47. Or we could add a few new faces as well kirby!

I think pep Guardiola should be our next manager too…

    When did Fabregas say that?

  49. Poliziano;

Well, I was paraphrasing a little bit, but it was from an interview in last months Good Housekeeping magazine…

  50. I imagine the bit about tango was your invention.

  51. ……it’s going to be a long summer…..

Was there a season review of the 2006-2007?

  52. yeah who do we add spike yaya would be nice but we do need defenders!

  53. Afternoon all,
just did a bit of research re who is financing real madrid with these transfers. It is a savings bank called la Caixa, the third largest in Spain.Saving Banks are not regarded as safe as traditional banks, and the interesting thing is that they are currently offering a fixed 5% interest for one year, which is more than double the going savings rate worldwide, which usually means they need to recoup money. No such thing as a free lunch.

  54. Finsburyparker....formerly known as 'there's only one arsene wenger'

re:ex players’ comments about the current team…

…Arseblog interviews Ray Parlour on his Arsecast, you can skip forward a bit to the interview.

    http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog/posts/arsecast-special–arseblog-meets-ray-parlour

What’s interesting is how Ray conducts himself, the way he expresses his own opinions, and the respect he has for his former manager. Arseblogger got excited at one point and tried to sucker Ray into the doomer family’s hate logic, but Ray was having none of it.

  55. Good stuff Yogi.

“It always amazes me when people want wholesale clearances of players. ”

Same here. Yeah, let’s destroy the whole team and start from scratch again! It’s ridiculous.

  56. Kirby;

Not sure fella… I guess a CB and a central midfielder, a defensive stylee one… But this is stuff thats been bandied about for ages! As for names??? Erm….Zapata, Lorik Cana… (Even tho I have no idea who they are and have just seen their names on various sites, therefore i feel adequately informed to state, categorically, that these 2 players are just what we need…)

  57. yeah not sure what arsene is gonna do maybe all this money being passed by madrid is putting things on hold for us getting some players in.

  58. Hold on a sec.

“If I find the form I had before my injury then I will play. Wenger was frustrated when I told him I would need to undergo more surgery. But he has not tried to kick me out so he has faith in me”

He is talking about the surgeries he has already had, right? Or is he to have another one?

  59. Im pretty sure it was the operations he has already undergone…

  60. I don’t trust you Spike. Not yet.

  61. previous operations

  62. @5:53 hehe Ateeb, you’re so funny 🙂

  63. To: DOOMERS FAMILY HQ

    Subject: Operation Jelly Bean

Subject know as Spike exhibits unusual intelligence and has shown great skill in blog infiltration. Could be possible double agent under control of LG. However, exhibits remarkable good humour under close scrutiny. Possible defector. Will offer political asylum.

    Over and Out.

  64. Spike could be Mike Hock. Both are named after a prick.

  65. Oh you guys…… Soooooo suspicious….

Spike to base, Spike to base, come in base…

  66. The Doomer's Family

Yes Spike. Go on, this radio transmission is secured. Hope everything is going well. Did slating the team in a satirical manner work for you? We’ll be using their own weapons against them. Everything is fine at base though. We managed to twist Bergkhamps comments, and raised alarms that we needed a clear out.

  67. What about she???

Was that part of our, erm, I mean, your plan too???

  68. The Doomer's Family

Don’t know what you’re talking about. Be clear. I told you the transmission is secured.

  69. Poliziano;

I thought we had been thru this already? Spike is a supa cool name for many many outstanding reasons..

  70. The poster at 4.02pm….

  71. To: Doomers HQ

    Subject: Possible Mole.

Poster name ‘she’ possible double agent. Tactics – charm offensive. Watch out for feminie allure and innocent ‘don’t know much about football’ line. Possible collusion with Spike. Treat with extreme prejudice.

  72. The Doomer's Family

No, no, no. Even we wouldn’t go that far. She is an evil that no one can control. No one knows her identity, or where she came from. Some says, she is Howard’s wife. She works on her own.

  73. A femme fatale praps?

    Mata Hari styleee…

Jeepers! You think Im in cahoots with ‘she’???

  74. Just checked out the links that “she” posted. There is another world out there, and it’s creepier than the other world that most of us are familiar with. This Sinbad dude, is way creepier, than the creepy dude we already know about, from this other than other world. I think even the creepy dude that we all know about, would never go so far with his negativity than Sinbad. Maybe we could all arrange a big show down between Sinbad and Ge…other creepy dude we are familiar with.

  75. Ateeb;

Im sure that makes sense, must be more code n shit…

I think that Sinbad is cool, I particularly liked the way he killed merdusa with her own evil gaze reflected back at her…And those skeletal soldiers!

  76. How bad are these sins?

  77. Well, looking at some of those posts, looks exactly like some of the bile the fella from the Gooner Forum used to put out…Aint seen him/her putting any stuff out for a while…. You don’t think….? Hmmmm

  78. It’s like you’ve been watching Simpson all your life, and thought Bart was a bit “break the rules” sort of a kid. And then you stumbled upon Southpark, and came accross Cartman. And your whole world crashes down, and you suddenly start viewing Bart as a normal kid. That’s what just happened to me, creepy guy we are familiar with isn’t that creepy after all. And there alot of really sad and angry people at that forum. The LG people suddenly sound like more restrained with their negativity.

  79. So, its agreed then…?

    Sinbad must be destroyed…

  80. Not necessary. The next season will destroy him.

  81. I can’t wait to see rosicky in an Arsenal shirt again! He’ll be like a £20m new signing!

  82. Queen of Suburbia

Spike – are you loved up/angry Loner?

  83. QoS;

Hello there! Long time no see!!!

  84. This should be interesting. Go on please. 🙂

  85. Ateeb;

Werent you around yesterday??? We;ve been thru this already….

You guys and your conspiracy theories…

  86. 2-0 Spain, Torres again…

  87. Make that 3-0, hatrick…

  88. I know Spikey. Thought maybe you and Qos had some unfinished bussiness. We know you both share a very dubious past i.e LG.

  89. Queen of Suburbia

You seare prepared ti tell em to have skillfully negotiated the first wave of hazing…but you know it’ll get messy when Frank gets here right?

By the way…enjoy your work on LG, you are one of the few that tells Geoff he’s a twunt!

  90. No offence Queen. Just interogating the new one. Nice pic though.

  91. There is no reason why we cannot do what Spain have been doing in this last 22 minutes. All we need is to be ruthless and clinical in front of goal.

    Cesc 4-0!

  92. Cesc scores! Cool

  93. Queen of Suburbia

What just happened to my typing!

  94. Ateeb; Unfinished business???

QoS; Haha! Thanks, I’ve been getting a fair bit of scrutinising for sure!!! But, you know me, I just tell it as I see it! If i think someone’s being a tw*t, then… who am i to let em off the hook???

  95. You must dread the day when your critical eye is turned on yourself.

  96. Queen of Suburbia

Why do you still post there?

  97. If Torres played for Arsenal he would get 50 goals a season.

Cesc has got the freedom to get forward in this Spanish team like he did the season before last he looks a different player

  98. Queen of Suburbia

Its amazing that you, faceman or sharkeysure have not been banned yet by He Who Is Never Wrong yet.

  99. Have you noticed who Spain are playing, Gooner Ted?

  100. Qos;

I enjoy an argument! nah, when the season ended, i gave it a wide berth, couldnt face seeing the negativos who come out the woodwork when things dont pan out.. Always the same when we lose a game, never see certain people when we actually win…. BUT, I have a larf with a lot of people on there, a few wanna probably kill me, but I kinda like that too! I dont take things too seriously and just enjoy chatting about ASrsenal and any other random shit that comes into my brain!

    You not on there anynore?

  101. Mean lean,

I think our carling cup team can do that to New Zealand.

  102. The amount of chances we create Torres would get 50 goals

  103. Puyol looks like an aging drag queen.

  104. I think i saw his act last time i was in barcelona… he did a marvelous Cherl Crowe impersonation…

  105. lol PZ. And Zp was saying he isn’t ugly.

    Gooner Ted,

I don’t think Torres plays for us

  106. Queen of Suburbia

Nope. I had a battle of wits with an unarmed man over there.

Truth is, i enjoy posting here 100% more, Yogi is a vastly superior writer, most of the posters here are funnier and more articulate than your average “Grover”. And there is no insane subtext like “existing to question everything Arsenal” on here.

As a consequence, I enjoy blogging again.

  107. Are you sure it wasn’t a Scare Crowe impersonation?

  108. Fair do’s…

Im a bit of a blog slag personally! I frequent quite a few, including Mean lean’s one…

  109. Hahaha! Yeah, it is a scary image alright!

  110. I would have to agree with you Ateeb. To be honest we should have done this to Chelsea at the Emirates before they scored.

I would love to know where Eduardo features in Arsene’s mind.

  111. Oh and howdy Spike! 🙂

  112. Mean Lean,

Hoping Eduardo and Rosicky return fit from injury. Both of them could play in a variety of positions. That shouldn’t be a problem.

  113. Hahaha! Howdoo ML!

I think Eduardo may be quite a big feature in Wenger’s plans next season…

Obviously, it all depends on how he comes thru pre-season

  114. Queen of Suburbia

I can’t wait to see Rosicky back in action. That’s your world class experienced midfiled signing right there.

  115. Said exactly that QoS!

    Options a plenty in midfield next season;

Rosicky, Cesc, Nasri, Theo, Vela, Ramsey Arshavin, Wilshire, Traore, Barazite….

  116. Theo, Diaby, Eboue, Denilson and Song.

  117. Theo.

  118. Queen of Suburbia

    Diaby

  119. Song and Denilson are more DMs tho, Ateeb, Eboue seems to have been reverted to fullback too, LB or RB and Diaby is a 2nd striker, no? Already got Theo, although from what he has said, he wants to be a striker now. Which i wouldnt mind seeing, he is fast as fook and is a cool finisher too. maybe pearce will play him upfront for the U21s, although i doubt it…

  120. Queen of Suburbia

Plenty of options for different formations as well…defensive 4-4-2, defensive 4-5-1, offensive 4-3-3 etc etc all covered ably.

  121. Eboue was excellent away to Pompey at LB, as well as RB…

  122. Denilson isn’t really a defensive midfielder, although to some extent that’s the role he has played this season. He models his game on his compatriot Falcao, who scored about a goal every six games throughout his club career, and twice as many at international level.

  123. You said midfield. And Eboue plays good where ever he plays. I would like him to challenge Theo, for that RM role though. He is not that far off, just need to find composure and the final ball, because few in our team run at defenders like he does.

Denilson actually is quite good going forward, contrary to what people believe. He was restricted to the DM role, where he excelled really well. Earlier in the season, he was scoring and making assists, when he wasn’t so restricted.

Theo, still seems to learn a bit on the wings before he could be moved more central. And we have too many options for the strikers, for now.

  124. I don’t think Eboue is reverting to a full-back either. That just happens to be where most opportunites arose towards the end of the season.

  125. Yeah, maybe so, I just feel that as Sagna’s only real alternative, Eboue is better deployed at RB… Denilson has the ability to get forward and had quite a few assists last season, but I would say he is more a DM, maybe not a conventional one! Wasnt he a DM for his national team at U19 level?

  126. I miss Tomas Rosicky like crazy. What can Inesta do that Rosicky cannot?

We would never hear the end of it had Man U or Chelsea lost a player of that quality for that length of time.

How I look forward to watching Cesc, Rosicky, Arshavin buzzing around behind Ade, Eddie and Batmans sidekick

    Rosicky cautious over comeback

Tomas Rosicky believes his fitness is in a better condition than when he joined Arsenal, but the midfielder remains cautious over his return to action.

The Czech Republic international endured a wretched 2008/09 as a series of injuries saw him sidelined for the campaign.

Rosicky returned to training with Arsenal’s first-team in May, but manager Arsene Wenger resisted the urge to select the former Borussia Dortmund star.

The 28-year-old, who arrived in England in 2006, is now confident about his cardiovascular fitness, but admits he will need to ease himself into Wenger’s plans.

When asked how long it will be before he can feature in the first XI, Rosicky told deniksport.cz: “I cannot tell. According to (fitness coach) Tony Colbert, I could have been playing at the end of the last season, he saw no reason why I shouldn’t, as he thought my fitness was okay. The club decided not to play me.

“They did not consult with me. They saw that I was okay and maybe they just did not want to take the gamble. I think that it was obvious from the training that I was ready to play, if not for 90 minutes.

“Until I play in a league match I will not be able to tell what my chances are. When it comes to fitness alone, I must say that I am in a better shape than I was when I came to Arsenal.

“But I don’t know what will happen after I make repeated sprints from one end of the pitch to the other.”

  128. Well, that sounds positive. he will be ready to go next season, no probs…

  129. Anybody going to the pre season tour of Austria ?

  130. Monday’s Daily Mail

Rosicky slams Wenger in play me or sell me shocker.

Tomas Rosicky is furious with under fire boss Arsene Wenger. Rosicky was a key figure in the Czech Republic team until manager Arsene Wenger got his hands on the talented individual.

Rosicky said: ““They did not consult with me. They saw that I was okay and maybe they just did not want to take the gamble”

Manchester City are set to launch a £4 million bid to take the unhappy midfielder to Manchester to team up with England great Gareth Barry

Sources close to the manager say that he fears losing fourth place next season

  131. PZ @8:41 pm: “Denilson isn’t really a defensive midfielder, although to some extent that’s the role he has played this season.” I agree with you here. At the beginning of the season he was going forward a lot more, deputizing for Cesc who came back from the Euro’s knackered. But we had bo balance defensively and lost too many games and it is obvious he was asked to sit deeper and play more conservatively. The beauty of the boy is that he did what the manager asked him to do and helped steady the ship. No complaining, no worrying about his stats particularly his assists. Yet the bozos continue to doubt his quality.
What a player! What an effin PLAYER!

  132. Where was that Daily Mail article posted ML!!!! Thats not too far off that their kinda shite

  133. Queen of Suburbia

Followed by “Wenger lets us down again” headlines on Le-Grove and a dozen other blog sites the following day.

Throw in a couple of comments about ticket prices, how we are playing the wrong young players, how Song will never be a Rosicky and we’re good to go.

    Rinse and repeat.

  134. I think its an effin disgrace the way Wenger has treated Rosicky… Really makes me blood boil!

  135. silver gunner

shotta-gunna dude there seems to be two schools of htought where denilson is concerned, either love him cause he is doing what the manager asked of him out of position or hate him because he is a water carrier without the perceived end product.

Watching highlights of the season i am inclined to go with the later although i think he played too any games, he went from not [playing many to probably double the number.

Next year will be his year to show us what AW sees in him and to shut all the doubters including myself up!!

On player that should probably go and i think if we had the +£20m Adebayor would be sold not because AW doesn’t like him but because his attitude towards his employers as perceived by us the fans in’t up to scratch. The only problem is that Milan who have been long term suitors have turned their eyes on Djzeko so the only other club that is looking for a similar type of centre forward is man city!!! I know nothing has been ,mentioned of this in the tabloids but I cant see many other destinations.

Ateeb i agree with your comments about our lack of creativity this year but i think the worst thing about us this season gone was how bad when we did not have possession.

  136. Golden Shower Gunner,
If Denilson’s performances this season haven’t shut you up, nothing will.

  137. Spike, I can read the future.

  138. What was the final score in the Spain/NZ match?
NZ managed to score 3 goals against Italy in a recent friendly, so I expected them to put up more of a fight.

Thanks for posting the TR7 news Mean Lean. Sounds like there might be a little psychological fear of breaking down again, but I’m sure once he gets that first appearance under his belt he will get better and better. It’s completely understandable after what he has been through, but the fact that he’s got pre-season to be eased back into competitive action has to be a good thing.

P.S. You really want that job at the Daily Mail, don’t you? That story you posted may have just nailed it for you!

  139. 5-0. A dull game if ever there was one.

  140. You’ll need to think of a nom de plume if you want to write for a newspaper.

  141. Thanks Poliziano – I just saw the Cesc goal and the defending by NZ was shocking! Whoever said Torres would score 50 if he played for us, I agree, but so would anyone if the opposition was as poor as NZ. That was hardly a test for them!

  142. nom de plume for the Daily Mail ?

    – wanker

  143. Just to clear my name here. I don’t really want to write for the Daily Mail. Just a long standing personal joke that really isn’t funny.

  144. Yeah yeah ML, I believe ya! Haha!

  145. awww shucks, my secret is out 😀

  146. Spike are you still about?
