Beaten & Bloodied But Arsenal Are Not Broken By CL Defeat

Champions League Semi-Final, 2nd Leg
Arsenal 1 – 3 Manchester United
Manchester United win 4 – 1 on aggregate

0 – 1 Park (8)
0 – 2 Ronaldo (11)
0 – 3 Ronaldo (60)
1 – 3 van Persie (75 pen)

Fletcher sent off (74)

The undertakers started hammering the nails in the coffin of this tie before double figures had passed in terms of minutes, finished their work just as the eleventh minute passed. Two quick United goals left Arsenal with their own K2 to climb; it was a mountain too far.

Arsene said after the game:

This is one of the biggest disappointments of my time here because the fans were really up for a big night and hurts so much to disappoint them all

My over-riding memory of this tie is how effectively a team who pass the ball so sweetly and efficiently were kept comfortably at bay. A deeply disappointing end to the pursuit of glory yet one that should not disappear in a mire of recrimination and finger-pointing. Positively gutting; absolutely disappointing.

Fingers are pointing in the direction of Gibbs and Almunia, the youngster replaced at half time by Eboue so shot to pieces was his confidence. Before castigating them too harshly, remember the contributions that they have made in getting the club to the semi-final and in Almunia’s case, keeping the team in the semi-final.

Questions undoubtedly will be asked about the squad, not least in the . Are the players good enough to win silverware? History will tell us the answer to that in years to come. I point you to the history of the club and draw parallels between now and the period of 1986-88 when a team that threatened to win the league in both seasons before fading badly, winning the Littlewoods Cup in 1987, won nothing the following year. That was the last squad that had youth and potential. They had opponents who possessed superior experience, superior firepower for two seasons. The third season proved that patience is a virtue. Not easily acquired. Easily discarded.

Before moving onto the match itself, a word of credit to Manchester United. They deserved their place in Rome. At home they were dominant, away they capitalised on the early opportunities presented to them. There is no shame in losing to a better team, tribal rivalries should be cast aside in recognising this. It is not often that I feel magnanimous towards a team which has vanquished Arsenal but rather like Spartak Moscow in 1982 / 83, sometimes you just have to admit that the better side won.

Crucially, Arsenal failed to create a chance worthy of the name during the two legs of this tie before it was over, save for two opportunities from Fabregas in the first leg and van Persie last night. Both were from twenty or so yards which sums up the insurmountable problems faced in this semi-final. The forward line was well-marshalled by their opponents defence, the midfield shackled by their peers.

Yet for eight minutes of the second leg the scene was set for a rampaging performance. Passes were strung together, tackles made as snappily as their equivalent in the first leg. All that was undone by an unfortunate slip by Gibbs, permitting Park the opportunity to break the deadlock. Three goals in eighty-two minutes? Not really an issue, still achievable. Four goals in seventy-eight stretched belief.

Ronaldo hit an exceptional free-kick. Hindsight – and the advantage of a sado-masochistic choice to watch the match in it’s entirety on returning home from the game – show the error that the Spaniard committed in his positioning; not an easy observation from the opposite side of the stadium in real time. Interestingly, Jens Lehmann – not Almunia’s biggest fan- spoke in his defence in the post-match deluge of crap that was spouted, blaming the design of the ball which apparently enables it to pick up speed the further it travels. It doesn’t matter as to the ‘whys’, the result was Almunia picking the ball out of the net for a second time.

The Spaniard learned his lessons, producing good saves from Ronaldo and Rooney, efforts from distance that were goal-bound. Arsenal though reeled, punch drunk, stumbling through the remainder of the first half. The players were visibly shocked by the two United goals, struggling to get their foothold in the match. A response before the interval would have lifted them; it never came.

On the hour mark, the end that was inevitable became confirmed. United broke at speed through Park, Ronaldo and Rooney before the latter crossed, Ronaldo meeting the ball in the area to score the visitors’ third. It was the sort of goal Arsenal has scored on numerous occasions, a joy to watch unless you are on the receiving end.

The awarding of a penalty to Arsenal gave a crumb of comfort from a night where consolations are scant, van Persie drilling home an unstoppable shot. Fletcher’s red card is unfortunate for the lad, joining a list of players from the history of football who have been robbed of a ‘glory night’. Personally, I cannot see the reason why the decision is being queried, save for the unfortunate outcome. The tackle came from the side and impeded Fabregas, a decision that would have been given in every Premier League match. The referee was directly behind the action and gave the decision based on that which he saw. No instant replays for him nor, I suspect, a change of heart even if he had that benefit.

Post match, Arsene said that he will ‘evaluate’ where the team went wrong. Aside from being outplayed, he has to strike a balance between what is genuinely wrong and that which has gone wrong through mistakes. Mistakes that can happen to a player with ten years experience at the highest level as easily as they can with players who have ten games under their belt.

The problem for Wenger is that if he buys, he is limited as to what position to fill for. The purchase of Arshavin has reinvigorated the side and is being held up as a model for the spending route. However, the Russian is an exceptional player, something hard to match in defence for example.

I hear and read many comments over time about how this side lacks experience, how that is crucial in winning trophies. That is correct for they have won none. Let me ask you one question. When talking about experience, how many Arsenal teams who had that commodity in abundance, won the European Cup in its various guises? How many of them even reached this stage?

‘til Tomorrow.

  1. Frank's biggest fan

    Good post.

  2. Good balanced report, Yogi.

A word of praise for Song who was magnificent – as were Man U unfortunately

  3. first ?? nice i never come first..

shocked is the right word.. i was preparin myself for some last minute goal from united where we wud win 2-1 but ultimately go out.. but at 11 mins i was numb.. tragedy, disaster, catastrophe etc etc..

well shit happens.. at least we still have to play them again.. least we can show that yesterday was just a bad day in the office..

and admire ur courage for watchin the match again..

  4. Spot on. We were comprehensively outplayed over the two legs by a better team. The respective league position of the two teams demonstrates this.
I feel desperately sorry for Gibbs and Almunia as they were our best players in the first leg.
It should be remembered also that Almunia made a couple of top class saves last night.
The result was very disappointing but predictible and, considering how we have struggled in the league, to get to a CL semi-final is an achievement in itself. The problem is though as we continue to lag behind our domestic rivals and the premiership teams remain so dominant in the CL in Europe, how are we ever going to win a two-leg game against one of them?

  5. The referee was hopeless last night.

I realised something about us Arsenal fans. We very strongly hold on to notions of Arsenal being a special club. We might never really always win, but we’re glorious, and we most often beat ourselves.

This mentality allows me to deal with yesterday’s result. It’s much easier to swallow if we just let in two goals we simply normally wouldn’t let it. For some reason that cushions the blow.

  6. We were good until the two goals. If Gibbs doesnt slip, Almunia isnt shellshocked and saves the free kick and we attack for the rest of the game. Would have been great to watch unfortunately it didnt happen

One midfield player next year and we will be right, a definite challenger for the title. Also a swap deal with Adebayor.

  7. Everything seems to go wrong when Wenger pushes Cesc up the pitch to play like Gerrard or Scholes. I just don’t get this approach at all. All of our best memories of recent years involve Cesc lying deep and dictating play from the back – playing short incisive passes, or dropping balls onto the striker’s toes. Meanwhile Samir can play wide on the left or right and cut in and score. I think AW overcomplicated the tactics last night – as he did against Chelsea in the FA Cup. At least next year Arshavin will make this position his own and Cesc can get back to what he does best.

  8. Well done Yogi, once again you prove to be the best Arsenal blog by a country mile.

I for one would like to point out that Adebayor has his mind in Milan already. He doesn’t look like he wants to play for us any more. You cant even put his performances down to “His languid style.” He used to really put a shift in and make himself a nuisance whether he was playing well or not.

For me Bendtner offered more when he came on for 15mins than Ade had for the entire 2 matches.

    Read this!! http://www.footylatest.com/adebayor-drops-milan-hint-and-speaks-to-galliani-often/

  9. I’ve got the same feeling that I’ve had since the Hatton fight. I really thought we were going to win, or at least go the distance. I t turned out to be a bit of a non-event, so gutted.

  10. very good blog makes me fell a little better – but when i couldn’t sleep last night i kept having the same nightmare why did he let Flamani go he was a player came through the new system that was being put in place and knew the Arsenal way he was the type of player we missed in the two legs he knows the Arsenal way of playing but also has a little experience to know when to get back in a good position to defend and get stuck in and make tackles that count – lets get behind the team and win the last few games as we still have a very good team

  11. Totally gutted by the end result yesterday. But I must say I agree to the points that you have raised, Yogi. We were totally outplayed and the desire in the United ranks to reach a consecutive CL Final was probably much more intense than we assumed it to be.

Loved the way in which you’ve ended your article. Gibbs was unfortunate to slip & hand United the goal. I am sure that the “experienced” Silvestre could not have done anything better.

  12. It wasn’t Gibbs fault, it was the whole teams. Tey just weren’t up to it on the night. They definitely have the talent, the only thing I ca put it own to is nerves

  13. Drew10,

“I for one would like to point out that Adebayor has his mind in Milan already. He doesn’t look like he wants to play for us any more”

I could say the same thing about everyone’s favourite boy “Cesc”. But that would be blasphemy…….

  14. …seems to me that Ade’s interview on Arsenal.com after the game gives the lie to that article you put up, Drew10….

  15. Drew 10 – I agree with you about Bendtner, I thought he tried hard and looked good when he came on.
Why fans choose to criticise him instead if Adebeyor I don’t understand

  16. And that was a really stupid link that you gave us…..” Im working day and night with my agents”? What the hell….how dumb can you be to believe in such crap……

  17. I think the last Yogi’s last para sums this up. I have to admit I did not think we would make it this far when we were drawing ever game 0-0 after Christmas.

Yogi what are your thoughts about Kroenke move for more shares and the increased ambition Gazidis has brought to the club. I understand that it was actually these two that were the reason Wenger was able to sign Arshavin.

  18. I hate to be the one to be getting the knives out, but I honestly don’t want to see Adebayor in and Arsenal shirt again. We have a diving show pony up the other end of the pitch running his socks off all night and what do we get? Bendtner for all of his faults won more headers in the 15 mins he had on the pitch than Ade did all night. Where was the pressure on Ferdinand with a suspect rib? One great goal against Villareal does not make up for the 360mins of crap that have followed.

  19. BigM,

“Why fans choose to criticise him instead if Adebeyor I don’t understand”

What I don’t understand is why so called fans criticise any of them. Adebayors goals and assists speaks volumes about his contribution this season, with a completely new midfield that lacked creativity. And Bendtner has enough goals in him, to make the grade in any of the top 4 teams. And he is still our 3rd striker. Can’t get better than that.

  20. …I don’t think that Kroenke and Gazidis bring increased ambition…that has always been there….I think they bring in extra pairs of hands to help AW….DD was the man who went out to get the players for AW….he has been a big loss…and it is no coincidence that AW and the squad have had a tough time since he left….now perhaps AW will get the support within the club he deserves….

  21. Descarte….come on…..you enjoy taking the knives out……don’t you now? The first chance you get and STAB STAB……couldn’t wait for the season to be over?

  22. If the link, stood alone then perhaps I would agree but just look at his performances and his body language. He just didn’t seem to care it hurts me as a fan to see such apathy from our players.

Personally Bendtner offers far more especially when we play 4-5-1 I cant remember the last time Ade one a header when the ball is pumped long.

And Ateeb, why does me sharing an article with people make me dumb? And let’s face Ade isn’t going to come out and say “Well it dont really matter how we did because I aint gonna be here next year!” Is he?

  23. Fair point Frank. Do you think Kroenke is also willing to bank roll any big signings that AW would like to make?

I honestly think if he had more cash over the last few years we would have made a few more big name signings. What I am not saying is that this would have changed the net result.

  24. Because that was a dumb article to begin with. There is alot of crap floating around in the internet…why don’t you gather all up and give us the links?

  25. Faceman,

Please dont go by whatever Pyles Malmer says on ANR. Gazidis tries to sign players AW has shortlisted in order of priority much like the Football director/ chief executive of any club.

So while Gazidis definitely seems to have taken off a bit of AW’s workload regarding transfers, lets not think that he draws up the list of players that Arsenal needs to buy.

  26. Dixie Normous

We have to hold our hands up and remove our red-tinted specs and admit Man Utd are a superior team than us.They have players in Vidic,Ferdinand,Rooney and Ronaldo who are better than anything we have.

Lets be honest how did we ever believe a team that has struggled all season to finish even 4th beat the European champions

Until the board the manager the players and the fans get a huge grasp of reality success will continue to elude us

The blind faith shown to Wenger by the board and fans has to stop the blind faith in average players has to stop

Last night should be the beginning of a New Arsenal but it wont be unless the necessary changes our made

  27. Faceman

No, I don’t think that Kroenke will ‘bankroll’ Arsenal. One of the reasons why he will be investing in the club is that it is financially sound and well run, otherwise he would not be paying several thousand pounds a share.

For that matter, nor do I think Usmanov will splash the cash either. In both cases, were money to be made available by them, it would be in the form of a loan to the club which would be expected to be repaid with interest.

As for your earlier comment re ambition, Frank summed it up very nicely indeed.

    YW

  28. Agree absolutely with YW on this: “When talking about experience, how many Arsenal teams who had that commodity in abundance, won the European Cup in its various guises? How many of them even reached this stage?” So it is not just by experience alone. And on the experience factor, our side last night had been decimated by injuries to Gallas, Clichy, Rosicky, Eduardo, etc. all very experienced internationals.

Reflect also on this: We can never look pretty when losing, esp to Man Utd.

A victory fully deserved for what they did on the pitch.

By the way, Graham Poll agrees with the sending off decision. I can understand his rationale. Even if Fletcher had played the ball first, if he had not got the man as well, Fabregas could still have scored.

  29. …oh dear oh dear oh dear…

  30. Excellent post as usual. The biggest disappointment of the night for me was the stream of Arsenal “fans” pouring out of the ground with 25 minutes still to play.

  31. Alex,

I realise that Wenger has total control over the players he brings into the club but I have heard from other people involved with the club that the deal would have fallen over if it were not for the input of these two guys. I know I am not alone in thinking Arshavin could be the best player in the league next year so if they were that influential I think that is positive.

  32. I am just saying that if he was giving everything busting a gut then you could easily dismiss such articles. But if he wanders around looking disinterested in a Champions League semi, then the numbers start to add up.

  33. Dixie Normus,

And you need to get out of your own a**…..come on now…give it a shot……

  34. Great article mate, always is on this site, one of only three or four that are any good.

Very disappointed, I just cant believe the manner of the defeat. Gutted.

I think Ade should go, he is not playing for us, sell him and replace him.

Otherwise, I think the squad is very good, maybe a defender. I think Cesc should drop back, I imagine Song to be very good next year, so maybe wait till Jan before buying A CM.

    Lets finish on a flourish.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  35. ….of course Gazidis was involved in the deal…that is his job…negotiating contracts….

  36. Mr. Wenger was carried away when he discovered Cesc Fabregas at the tender age of 17 years old, he probably think from that year on he should just stick to upgrading his youths. He believe he has several raw diamonds like Cesc and Ronaldo in the Arsenal stable. I do not disagree that he indeed have many good players but they are not special talent like Cesc. Remember that Arsenal have alway purchased players who from other established club. These are already experience and blooded mature players. Viera, Bergkamp, Petit, Overmars, Henry and Lundberg, I can go on and on but will Wenger accept the fact that these super players are all not from his youth ranks. The success of Arsenal is definitely not from the rank of youth players. When he started refusing the purchase of quality players from other club a few years back he begin to lose grip of the throphies and ranking. He should be awake by now because a quality player like Ashavin would have woken his senses. It is time to realise a dream is just a dream it is not reality. If he continue with his flawed principle it will lead to his eventual downfall !

  37. Dixie Normous

    Decarte

The difference between Rooney and Ronaldo and RVP and Ade was huge.Rooney and Ronaldo ran there socks and made things happen Rvp and Ade on the other hand put no effort in and waited for things to happen.

Rooney and Ronaldo are rich men who still have that desire to win you cannot say that about RVP and Adebayor.I would never play Adebayor again for Arsenal.Drop him for the final games of the season and sell him in the summer

  38. Faceman….can u give us more detail about who fed you this piece of information….

  39. Frank,

Again I realise that but the fact that he was involved with a positive result it is good for the club going forward. We appear to have made a very good deal for an even better player.

  40. Wise words as per usual, YW. As for Gibbs, I feel sorry for the lad. He has potential in buckets, and has been good since he came into the side. For fear of repeating myself, get back on the horse, son. Hopefully as soon as this weekend.

  41. What hurts the most to me is that last night we did not show any fight at all.

They players have already given up (from their body languages) when the 2nd goal was scored. This is the main difference between us and Chelsea, Liverpool and Man utd. This is the reason why they are above us in the league.

In terms of techniques, physical abilities and skills, we are at least as good as, if not better than them.

How many times have we seen our team come back when we are 2 or even 3 goals down? I don’t recall anyone in the recent years, especially since Henry left. Just look at how many comeback games have the top 3 clocked in compared to us.

To me, this is the real reason why we will never be able to win anything of note, until the never-say-die attitude so visible in the top 3 in the league has in abundance is shown by us too.

  42. The fans leaving was heartbreaking. The whole world saw that. You wouldnt get that anywhere else, even watford. I was watching it the pub and that was the only thing i had no excuse for, I got well an truly roasted by my piers, and rightly so. Who leaves after 60 min? The mind boggles

  43. Ateeb is the post police, unless you reveal your sources he will tear you apart!

  44. Following on from what I said in a previous posting (“We can never look pretty when losing, esp to Man Utd.”), it would be wrong to single out Ade or any other player for criticism. We were collectively overwhelmed by mistakes at the back and the loss of belief when faced with a daunting climb up Mt Everest.

  45. …seems to me that you should take AW at his word…he is deeply disappointed and as an intelligent and knowledgeable manager he has said that he needs time to reflect upon his strategy….he will not do that in isolation…he will speak to a number of others about it….mean time I strongly recommend that he does not listen to people with very little knowledge, with far less intelligence and no access to information or facts…

  46. Luke, that does not explain Ade’s lack of drive in both ties!

  47. Another good post I must say.

To be honest, I would have bought this season a couple of months ago: A CL-semi, a FA-cup semi and finishing fourth. Remember when we trailed Villa by 8 points?

So far it is ok. But we have to move on, and I disagree with those (maybe also Yogi) who claim that we dont need experience. Of course more Silvestre-like players are not the answer, but proven and expensive quality is.

If AW does not spend big in the summer window I guess we have to keep being satisfied with being number four. After all its far better than how we fared in most of the sixties, seventies and the eighties, but we wont be the greatest team the world have ever seen…

  48. Dex, the sooner some of the season ticket holders who left dont renew their tickets and pass them on to us poor country cousins on the waiting list, the better.

  49. Am I right in thinking that fourth place in all the leagues are randonly drawn together for the CL qualifier? We migh have to play fourth from spain or Italy? I could be wrong

  50. Our boys will have a chance for revenge on 16th May 2009 at OT. Surely motivation enough?

  51. What I don’t understand is where has all the invention gone. That moment when RVP twisted and turned his way through the defence and had a shot begs the question why don’t we see that kind of thing more often?

Walcott needs to get back to a more Overmars style of play, forget tricks just boot the ball and cahse after it! He has the pace to beat anyone but all to often tries to dribble.

  52. …Faceman…did Gazidis not say that he sat in on the transfer to learn about how contracts are constructed…he said it was oh so different to the way business was done in MLS…

….I agree that replacing DDs know-how was a priority for the Board….I think their focus was less on supporting AW and more on building the stadium….you only have to look at the spectator ‘experience’…building the stadium was a huge distrction for the club….by employing Gazidis I hope they have gone some way to rectifying that loss….in Arsenal terms it was earth shattering in its magnitude….

  53. At least we have Arshavn next season, he’s proved what weve been missing – developed talent. Sign an experienced centre back, keep our current players and we’ll be contenders again. We need a John Terry, Rio Ferdinand or Sol Campbell

  54. We are all gutted by the results, but some of the stuff bandied about is just pure guff.

Experience is overrated. – How many of our experienced teams in the past even made it to a champions league semifinals.

I’ve even heard some pundits blame Gibbs slip on his youth, how can a player lipping be down to his experience or lack of?

We were blitz by United- We had the better of the opening 10 minutes, 1 goal from a slip against the run of play, and another from a speculative free kick does not constitute a blitz.

It is a bit difficult to keep your head up when you’re down 4-0 after 10 minutes. Do you really think that any other team in the world would come back from that. Let’s see Chelsea or Barca do that.

  55. Drew10

If we want to be critical, why not criticise Walcott, or golden boy, too? Why Ade and not Walcott? Was Walcott not dominated over both legs and ineffective?

  56. Does anyone know whether there are any good centrebacks out there?

  57. Luke see my previous post!

  58. >>>When talking about experience, how many Arsenal teams who had that commodity in abundance, won the European Cup in its various guises? How many of them even reached this stage?>>>

So, because no team won the CL means that we should not improve the current team and try to win it?? Arshavin proved that a couple of world-class experienced players can shift the team into another class. Who can deny Evra’s words about boys & men? As much as we hate to admit it, we were no match for them over 2 legs. And it wasn’t the slip. They would have scored on another occasion if it wasn’t for that because they are a gear ahead of us.

We are talking about buying 2 experienced players and it’s like a sin FCOL…

  59. Drew10, we’d have to get our money out. I dontink we have any young centre backs coming through so its our only option. Wenger did it with Arshavin so I think he’s starting to realise he was aiming for something impossible. To dominate world football you need top players in there prime

  60. …. I agree with Alex….leaving after 60 minutes is the worst performance by a teams’ supporters in many a year…we definitely have the worst supporters in the league…by a country mile…all this ‘the supporters were great last night nonsense’ is rubbish….the supporters sang and then when the first goal went in virtually stopped….but to leave after 60 minutes….dosn’t get much worse than that….

…having said that I firmly belive that we have a core of 20,000 supporters who are superb….

  61. Poor Jack Wilshere is going to rot in the reserves due to his lack of experience… 😦

  62. Dex

    I agree with you.

By the way, yes we could meet number 4 from Italy, Germany or Spain in the qualifying round.

  63. I know the MLS system is centralised and therefore by definition it is different. However, I would hope that that this not his only commercial experience as a Chief Exec. I do take the point that it will take time to learn how these deals are constructed, I do not agree that these means he had nothing to offer to the process.

Anyway I think we are in agreement that it is a good move and it has already had a positive influence.

  64. I just wondered if there were any CB’s out there that are in the mould of a Terry? Wait there is this swiss lad at Milan I hear!!!

  65. …I did not say he did not have anything to offer the process…I said I am glad he is now here to give AW support….

  66. Drew,

Sauron is a no non sense defender from the lands of Mordor.

  67. Ateeb, don’t you ever sleep? You seem to put in a 24 hour shift these days. Great to see but don’t burn out. There is alot of work to do.

I don’t think I saw the same game as some. I think Utd were better than us. They deserved to win but saying that the team showed no fight? What on earth? We kept playing, the possession and passing stats confirm that. We certainly lacked penetration and a bit of conviction after that early double blow but we never gave up. RVP fought until he went off as did Bendy when he came on. They weren’t alone, I saw nobody ‘give up’.

  68. …I agree with Cb…

  69. Consolsbob, You’re right and that was the problem, they were trying but they didnt have the confidence or extra special talent to spark a comeback. Had Arshavin been on the pitch it would of been a different game.

  70. Drew 10 – you are correct invention has been lost but this crop of players do not understand what position they are playing and what roles they have – they need to go back to basics and get positional play into their mindset as too many times they do not cover for each other and are out of position on to many occasions and against better sides they are left wanting they do not defend well period – djouru is not a good defender Wenger needs to realise that Swiss do not make good defenders they are resistance as cheese

  71. Ateeb,

Pssst…I hear Sauron controls the destinies of all the top striker’s in the world with some contraption he wears on his hand. Precious player as his team mate Gollum would say.

  72. …who knows how the AA deal was struck….we know that Zenit St Petersburg are tough people to do nusiness with…others failed with AA….maybe Usmanov had a quiet word…made someone an offer he could not refuse….horses head in the Chairman’s bed…it would be hilarious if that is how it happened…..not for the horse of course…

  73. I guess that is the thing with all of this stuff. All we really see is what happened on the pitch and selectively edited press conferences. I think the horses head theory sounds like a good one.

  74. Dixie Normous

    Consolsbob

Adebayor has given up.He wants out in the summer

  75. there were no real excuses yesterday lets just face it the team is not as good as man utd’s and good luck to them in the final. certain people are calling for Wenger’s head but that will solve nothing and you can tallk about flamini all u want but he would not have changed the outcome as song was our best player. ade can go van persie needs to find form and i feel that theo, bentdner, gibbs, djourou (who got eaten by ronaldo) are ready yet but can become better layers from the experience

  76. Frank – the deal was about to fall through because AA wanted 3-4million for sign on fee and Arsenal wanted that to come out of the transfer fee as all top players want around 80-100k per week to keep within wage structure Arsenal had to give a few million to AA when signed – the hold up was how they were going to give him the money all at once or bonus every year

  77. Consols,

“Ateeb, don’t you ever sleep? You seem to put in a 24 hour shift these days. Great to see but don’t burn out. There is alot of work to do.”

Sadly it’s going to come to an end. You’ll be seeing a lot less of me. Got an appointment letter yesterday, starting a job at a bank on Monday. But someone needed to deal with the orcs, hold the fort in these crucial days.

Lol @ frank……well he was sold below the market price…….

  78. Do you really think that AA would have turned the game around, all on his own. I think he is an excellent player but the way that some are treating him as a messiah is ridiculous and dangerous. We were not a crap team before he came and we are not an unbeatable team now that he has.

    Dangerous.

What happens to AA when he goes a few games not scoring or being less ‘inspired’ that he can be? I’ll tell you what will happen, he’ll get stick from the same fans who think he is our only ‘quality’ player. the same fans who are now starting to doubt Walcott or RVP or whoever else doesn’t meet their profile of a ‘top, top player’.

You would also think that he is the first player that Wenger has ever signed. Anybody remember, Rosicky, Gallas, Sagna, RVP and there are a few before them that could be trotted out.

There are some of you that need to actually remember what has actually gone on over the last ten years rather than swallow the crap that the media and their Arsenal hating chums who act as ‘pundits’ tell you.

  79. Indeed Faceman. Where would we be without Usmanov. Now if he could only make our board an offer they could’nt refuse non?

  80. Dixie, Let him go then, as long as we spend the money we get for him on a replacement

  81. Arsenal youngster Oğuzhan Özyakup has scored for Holland against England u17s.

    2nd half now I think.

Wilshere and Freeman both playing for England.

  82. Consolsbob, of course AA would of had a massive impact, look what he’s done for our league position. He’s had a hand in almost every goal we’ve scored, the boy is so much better then I though he was going to be, he’s brilliant and more importantly he’s the finished article

  83. A job Ateeb, hard luck. Could be worse though, imagine working as a ‘hospitality Coordinator’ at Chelsea.

I mean, having to suck up to chavs all day so that they will pay over the odds for burger and chips and warm lager and then watch the likes of Joe Cole and John Terry all day. I mean, they are not going to be happy customers are they. Plus, you are going to go home feeling so dirty every day. You couldn’t wash enough.

    Good Luck anyway, my friend.

  84. Credit to our team last night that in spite of not being in the game for 80 mins, they did not lose their discipline.

  85. Saying that he is a great player doesn’t answer the points I made, Dex. It is just stating the blindingly obvious.

  86. Consolsbob, sorry i thought you said that AA wouldnt of had an impact on the game, my mistake

  87. Consols,

lol. So i am better off working in a bank right? For now, offcourse. The recession, no jobs, take whatever you get. Take whatever you get, I’ve been conditioned in the last couple of months. Take whatever you get. Just take it. Wait for better times.

  88. we were inferior in all aspects of this game.
I couldn’t stomach watching after 2 nil… played tekken 4 instead. (bloody rubbish game). now let all those players wishing to leave arsenal please do so now – Ade Cesc whoever)… so we can start rebuilding… again. This is a sad situation

  89. Troof,

May I suggest you go give the Tekken 4 game, another shot?

  90. Street Fighter classic

  91. Street Fighter classic try that aswell

  92. Still proud to be a Gooner. Need to keep up the unbeaten run into next season. Can’t wait for the next match.

  93. I’m afraid that that is right, Ateeb. Better times will come. I bloody hope so!

  94. Hard to take but logically speaking and it pains me to say it, on balance…United and Barca have been the best sides in Europe this season…certainly in terms of consistency…so I guess it would befit a CL final if they were to contest it.

  95. Especially if Barca won it Queenie.

  96. steww

Sod the unbeaten record i want to see the likes of Wilshire,Ramsey and Vela play in the final games. The unbeaten run has made us believe we are better than we really are.The semi v Chelsea and the two games have proved that we have a long way to go

  97. Did you have your bloody shirt on back to front again, steww!!!

  98. Queen of Surburbia,

I agree 100%. United and Barcaare a different level at the moment, they have about six match winners in there team which save them when there playing crap

  99. Yogi,
nice to write like this for consolation. But I am still in tears, because I fought we were beaten by a team that had a better manager than our own.
On Saturday, AW put in a test of his youngsters against Porsmouth and the kids didn’t disappoint him; then he kept all of them including Bentner on the bench and go with the same team that was disappointing on Wednesday against United. I find this really shocking.
Then, yourself in your match preview, you said that the team was picking itself. I said no, the team doesn’t, because AW could read from Saturday match against Portsmouth to strike the right balance that the current first team is lackking. And I said everyone could see that we are missing Eboue in the current team. He could play at left-back even if Gibbs is doing well. We were missing Eboue’s direct play in the first leg. You can’t make any impact on the team if you take almost the same squad that was not only beaten, but humiliated last week! So I wasn’t really surprised of the result; but I was disappointed with AW’s stobborness.
I believe We have a team that can be better than this, but AW has to show some tactical quality in his team selection, as well as in the type of players he is signing, because we seem to be over-run, out-paced and out-muscled against our direct opponents in the league. He really needs to strike the right balance.

  100. Dex – it doesn’t matter about match winners when you can defend like manu and chel – the blue c**** will go through as they have a very good defence and the team know how to defend and they have a goal getter upfront – they only need one goal and then will defend to the whistle – we need better defenders a couple this summer

  101. …I thought that RvP scored and assisted every goal in January and Feruary….

  102. Dex,

Not only has AA had such an impact as to how we play – but I think he will redefine the strategy and the type of player the boss will want to play off him in the future as No 10 in the final third. Outside of Bergkamp – I have never seen a more complete player arrive at this club. Th14 and PV4 grew into the legends they became. But this guy is a full blown world class talent.
Last night was a watershed but this not a time for finger pointing. Never seen Wenger so disappointed. Hope he gets the support from Gazidis and Kronke to make the necessary changes and bring this group of players and this Club to scale the heights it so very much deserves. Considering the resources, the injuries and form we’ve had this season – its amazing at all that we’ve got this far. But we must learn from this.

  103. …don’t right off all of our players for goodness sake…AA is a great player…but we have others too….

  104. …write even…

  105. Yes but the others need AA to play off and learn from. four goals at Anfield? We missed that ls against Man U. AA wouldnt of been intinidated

  106. “Crucially, Arsenal failed to create a chance worthy of the name during the two legs of this tie before it was over, save for two opportunities from Fabregas in the first leg and van Persie last night.”
A small point: Nicklas Bendtner had a clear chance but headed over in the first leg.

  107. No Frank that is the problem we dont have great players.Who other than AA and Cesc are really great? RVP?too inconsistent,Ade? No way.Theo? little boy lost

  108. well im not writing off our players but i will say we was shite last night. its over now.. next year we win the league!

  109. unless fab n ade bugger off.

  110. …no Mike A we do…up front Eduardo and RvP are great players…RvP is not inconsistent and neither is Eduardo…

  111. Also I’ll admit I’ve never been Bendtners biggest fan, butwhen he cam on the hunger in him was brilliant, it really showed up th lack of urgency from the other players. I just dont know what they were waiting for because it doesn’t get any bigger then that. We needed big performances from our main players – Cesc, Ade and RVP, and unfortunately they weren’t at the races. Bendtner semed the only player who realised we were in a champions league semi final

  112. Theo? little boy lost

    Piss off

If we lost Theo to another club, I doubt you’d be too happy about it. Walcott will be a legend for Arsenal, just you watch.

  113. Ic, what are you talking about? Portsmouth are SH*T! Of course you can field the kids against them… if AW fielded that team against Man UTD they would have had even more of a field day against us.

The Man UTD team / squad were sensational last night, i think our invincibles from yester-year would have struggled to win last night. The pace & movement on and off of the ball was some of the best i have ever seen. There is absolutely no shame in losing to that team when they perform like that.

It’s easy to lose site of the big picture. We have one of the best stadiums in the league / world. We have AW to thank for that.
Once that is paid off we’ll be able to sign big money stars and compete with MAN U / Chelsea / Liverpool… until then, we make do… and if making do means two semi finals in two of the worlds best cup competitions and a champions league place next year then i’m happy.

  114. Blackstock, he was a bit quiet, I dont understand. If I was wenger I’d tell him to do what he does best and run at evra at every opportunity. Evra struggles with Lennon so I was banking on Theo roasting him

  115. …I think that Cesc is having difficulty getting back to his old form…he will get there though….Ade was neutralised…RvP was full of invention…the cross with his back to goal in the first half was an astonishing piece of skill…Ade should have scored from it…and his penalty was unstoppable…he was also defending when necessary and of course very supportive of Kieran…

…our major problem yesterday apart from two devastating mistakes early on was that our midfield lost the battle…only Alex Song really stood out in that department…

  116. Rev, come on, Utd didnt play that well over the two legs, the tie was lost by us. Yhe Invincibles would have any team pinned back for long periods of time, goal threats all over the pitch

  117. … I agree with rev….

  118. we have very good players that is true but we don’t have the mindset for big games when you get to the business end of comps you have to to able to change your playing style slightly and you have to have the players to do that – we have not the players to do that – ok we were unlucky with gallas injury but he could have played song at CB as i do not rate djouru put cesc in holding position ok diaby has not played well but put him in the centre and play him in position he is being touted for the PV position and a few times he has produced from that position and he gets tackles in
the mindset at business end of comps is keep it tight at the back make it difficult for the oppostion to score try to score without leaving yourself open we have not done that in the big games we can could not even get two banks of four over the two legs at any point and that is basic rule of defending you do not have to be great palyers to do that 30 mins session in training could have sorted that out

  119. Personally I dont understand why Bergkamp didnt play yesterday?

  120. It’s bitterly disappointing last night, but recalling the first 1/3 of the season when we lost to the likes of Hull, Man city, etc, to make this far in CL is a great achievement (typing this in tears tbh). I hope everybody’s right behind the team for the remainder of the season (and beyond) that has been beleaguered by serious injuries to our key players. Let’s support the team to finish this season on a high, kind of a prelude to some remarkable achievement to come next season.

    I love Arsenal!!

  121. Rev

When you do get to a semi final do you leave out your best player?

  122. Yogi

I have always found your columns very well balanced. Though one thing that needs to be looked at in regards to experience is in regards to what place in the team you are talking about.

Defence Midfield , Attack. Another area to be looked into is the place on the pitch. Central or Side.

Central positions holds key. As correct placements there dictate the movement of the rest of the team.

This would probably be more important in defence and midfield.

Younger blood has more room to make mistakes and not get punished when playing in forward positions.

You get crucified by mature teams like manu, who take advantage of such mistakes with killing efficency.

  123. Num-rudd – I suspect if you have sufficient coaching ability to impart the required knowledge of how to stop Manchester United from scoring in 30 minutes, using only average players..that you immediately stop whatever it is you are doing and shift career into football management.

Seriously, you’ll be in great demand, don’t delay, do it now.

  124. The thing that summed up last night for me was the 2 benches. compare the likes of Berba, tevez, giggs, scholes

with Diaby, Bendtner, Denilson, Vela all of which are good and have that word potential but ultimately at present not in the same class.

  125. Blackstock

There were some Gooners on here yesterday saying Eboue should start in front of Theo.Check yeasterdays blog.In both games Theo WAS a little boy lost

  126. Interesting to see who turns up at this particular time and what they have to say. Sadly no surprises though. I wonder what pleasure some people get out of football when they hate the team they claim to support so much?

  127. I love Arsenal, I just wish some of the players cared half as much about my team as we do!!

  128. …you should take up that as a hobby, Mike A…go back through all the Arsenal games over the ages….figure out which players did not play in all of the losses….propose that if these players had played these games would definitely have been won…and publish it as a manual for managers….

…btw AA did play in the semifinal…they scored the winner when he was on the pitch unfortunately…so that game will not qualify for your manual…

  129. He was just marked by a world class left back Mike A…Evra was incredibly tight to him over both legs.

  130. ….I think they care a lot more about your team than you do, Drew10…given your comment at 12.57pm

  131. …I thought that Evra was poor last night and there for the taking, QoS…

  132. …the reason that Theo was getting no joy is that they were doubling up on him….

  133. Frank, how can making an observation about the strength in depth of the 2 squads equate to me not loving my team?

That is just typical of one of your posts, unconsidered and pretty thoughtless.

  134. …my posts are never unconsidered and thoughtless, Drew10…your remark was not at all supportive of the ‘team’….for instance Bendtner and Vela when they came on were as good if not better than Giggs and Berbatov…

  135. Did you Frank? You’re right about the doubling up, but Evra being so tight meant that every time Theo fought his way past (and most of the time he was having to fight) it meant that the second united player could easily pick up the loose ball.

  136. re: Franks point @ 1.14

And cost a fraction of Berbatov alone.

  137. Vela and Bendtner are both good players but ultimately unproven at this level.

Both I believe will grow into special talents as they are so young.

My observation merely stated that when you put them head to head they had players in reserve that could really turn the tide if needed. I am sure even you could admit we now lack that sparkle from the bench.

Not so long ago our bench had Edu, Wiltord, Reyes etc, that calibre of player makes players on the pitch raise their game or loose their place!!

We surely need more competition for places.

  138. Rev.
If you have no clue about what I’m talking about, please keep away from reading my post. The team AW set out on Saturday had all it takes to win games: pressing hard opposition on the ball; attacking directly with players hungry to receive the ball at the other end and winning challenges on one on one. This has nothing to do with your crap, because this so called first team displayed none of that in both legs against United.

  139. United fan here, but u wrote a nice post buddy
In fact for the first eight minutes I thought United were going to get a real beating, given the way Arsenal passed the ball around. Had it not been that slip by Gibbs and the opener by Park, I think arsenal would have definitely scored one in the first half. That goal by United just blasted the confidence of the arsenal players, and the rest we all know.
Still it is an achievement in itself for Arsenal to be present in the semis, more experienced teams like Real Madrid or Liverpool have been knocked out in the earlier stages. I can bet you that in 2 years time this Arsenal team will be in the top 2 of the Premier League, provided the players dont leave. And a special mention to Arsene Wenger, a man I admire for his confidence in the youngsters, coz Arsenal is the only team in the Premier League with so many young players in the first team, unlike United, although we too have our bunch of youngsters 😀

  140. ….well no Drew10…I don’t agree….two of the players you mention are way past their best….and I don’t rate Berbatov in his Manc strip…and I think that the Arsenal players you mention have all turned games and importantly will turn games in the future….Scholes and Giggs days of turning games are all but over….so I would say I would be very happy with our bench compared to theirs…

  141. queen of sububia – i jjust meant that it is basic defending you get two banks of four and make it difficult for the oposition to score if they had done that at Liverpool we would have won 4-3 – what did manu do over the two legs have all players behind the ball but in two banks of four to constrict space then break when they got the ball because we had over committed ourselves this is a basic denfending ploy in all big games we have done this over the years but why has this tactic been forgotten about now is someone getting pakinsons – sure if this is the case then anyone with basic football tactics should apply – we do not want turn him into a messiah we all know waht happens to them

  142. Oh dear…Oh dear…..Oh dear…….

    What the fuck?

  143. …I know what you mean, QoS…about Evra….but we watched him very closely for a while during the game…he was having a torrid time against Theo…and both Theo and Sagna got in behind many times…I am a bit disappointed in the quality of the crosses to be honest…I wanted to see Samir and Cesc bombing in from deep to pick up the reverse cross….whilst Ade and after he changed position RvP occupied the centre backs…..but we can work on that…

….actually RvPs crosses from corners and freekicks are usually superb and most were the same yesterday but we never manage to get anyone on the end of them…

  144. silence fell in my house last night. upset at losing, thats normal. I dont give a monkeys who wins tonight or in the final, we are not init. Chelsea next, if we wipe the floor with them will everything be alright ? Last night was one game , lets not be hasty in coming up with conclusions. I trust the manager to make the right decisions and then we see. Arshavin makes a huge difference to our team, not just in finishing but confidence, passing options. I think Theo is ready to start up front, with AA just behind. nasri next to cecs, vella on the left rvp on the right, whoever is fit at the back, arson seems to be experimenting with the system, it does seem to space us out a bit and seperate midfield from up front so he might change it there. as for not having the experience, i hear this crap all the time. heard it last night on telly, what had man utd won before their first prem in 20 years. We are not the sum of last nights performance, we were up against it from the start if truth be told. i strongly believe in the future of this club, it might mean shipping out players whos quality is in question and bringing in players whos quality is not as in the case of AA. i dont think we need that many. i just cant wait for chelsea now and a chance for the team to play with freedom but above all else hard work. keep the faith

  145. Has Zimpaul posted today? He usually does……….

  146. Frank, why when we are talking about the game YESTERDAY and I was comparing the benches YESTERDAY do you say in the future these players will be better than ones who by then will have retired??

This is a pointless argument with a guy who could start a row in an empty room!!

  147. My point Num-Rudd is that The Art Of Defending is a lot more sophisticated than simply getting two banks of four in front of the ball.

For a start, a team playing 4 5 1 can stretch it easily with wingers and a extra runner from deep.

  148. Frank…..RVP is a class act…….beautiful reverse cross….whatever you want to call that……ref blew it for us though…giving a foul against Ade. But what I admire about RVP, is that he dares to do things that footballers don’t even know can be done…….or just too afraid to try it out……..

  149. We have the finest group of young players in europe, the envy of every other club and manager, put together painstakingly over 2-3 years. In itself an unprecedented achievement that has laid the foundation for a decade; and at ensured Arsenal in financially strong.

That they are young means they lack some physical and psychological strengths that come with experience. But young players do grow and do learn. By age 23-25 (ie over the coming 2 years) most of our players reach their peak.

There is no crisis at Arsenal, and no need for sadness. Incredible accomplishment to reach both semis this year, and the fight back into the top four with so many ‘flair players’ injured. Cesc has obviously not had time to recover form after the lay off (very common), and nor obviously has Edu, and probably both Ade and RvP.

Nobody who knows a thing about football would write off Arsenal or even call for ‘major changes’.

There is nothing wrong with AW’s tactics. He has also bought wisely (Arshavin, Ramsey, Nasri, Gallas, Dudu etc …) and will continue to do so.

What’s wrong with y’all? We are closer to glory than most of you imagine, and probably needed a dose of ManU and Ronaldo as a good hard lesson. I remember when he was a puny lad 4-5 years ago, bullied by big men. Theo will be a legend.

  150. …they did not have two banks of four…they had everyone bar Ronaldo behind the ball at all times….and played on the break…Chelski play with two banks of four…bit like table football and not as interesting….trouble is neither system works if one of your players slips in the box at a crucial moment or your keeper has a bit of a mare on a free-kick….

  151. Drew 10……Didn’t you see the billboard behind the bench with the red neon lights flashing ” 750m in debt”?!?!

  152. ….Drew10….we were talking about the ability of the players on the bench YESTERDAY…and comparing their abilities…if we restrict those abilities to those displayed YESTERDAY…then we can only compare those that played..and ours played better…YESTERDAY….

  153. …I agree with QoS @1.32pm…

  154. There you are Zimpaul……..good post.

  155. …and ZimPaul at 1.33pm…

  156. We missed Gallas a lot. And in the bigger picture Eduardo and Rosicky for the season. We are so close now.

  157. Whatever Frank you do talk shite!

  158. We’re disappointed to finish the season empty-handed. But 2 semi-finals? To be one of the best 4 teams in Europe? That’s a disaster?

One or two of Chelsea and Liverpool WILL still finish the season empty-handed. And they are older, have spent more and “have more experience”.

    Where’s the disaster?

  159. Memory!

Look at the speed of improvement from last season to this season in Song, Denilson, Diaby, Gibbs, Walcott, Bendtner, Djourou, Fabianski (for all of them this is their first ‘real’ season in first team, right?). Continue the trajectory to next season, and the season after. Wow! Add Nasri.

Add Vela, Ramsey, Merida, Randall, Bisch, almost there, probably coming through fully next season.

Now add players at peak or ‘developed’ AA, Cesc, RvP, Eduardo, Ade, Kolo, Gallas, Almunia etc etc etc … Now imagine an off-season without injury or competition, and full squad for next season.

The depth is frightening. AW was right all along.
He will, as always add 2-3 extraordinary talents.

So we got a bloody nose yesterday! Exactly what the doctor ordered. We have to learn to beat that kind of opposition. Tough international class well-organised teams at their peak. Good. And we get over that particular challenge, like we have all the others so far this year, we are at the summit.

It’s worth the wait. come on gunners!!!

  160. queen of suburbia – i am just saying this has been going on for a while and a lot of goals have been scored against us this season and there does not seem to be any progression in this area we can only blame the coaches

the art of defending is subtle none of our coachs seem to understand ie players don’t either

  161. Ole gunner, I thinks it more of an anti climax feeling then a disaster. It was like the Hatton fight, all the build up andthen it turned out to be a non-event. The fans leaving was a disaster, a major disaster. That needs working on just as much as the team. How can we expect players to die for the club when the fans dont care enough to stay after sixty minutes? Sixty minutes? Its possible to score three goals in three minutes. Leaving a CL semi with sixty minutes to go is a crime against football fans everywhere. i was s embarrased. The world saw that

  162. We have let in too many goals this season, a simple look at stats tells us that, but we tightened up nicely since December. The defence is not at it’s best tough, without Gallas, Clichy. It was a kind of disaster, all in all, to lose them at the critical period. I’m not sure Djourou is in best shape either. Almunia had his spell out. Pity.

  163. it might have the case that our midfield were not confident in getting forward as the worry about yohann and kieran, man u got nearly all their players back behind the ball when they lost posession. came forward in numbers. if im honest i thought we looked slow and tired , or that could have been psycological. we still have a very good team that should get better with age, i like ability but attitude is as importantb especially in big games, and let us not forget dear readers that a modicom of luck is required, we havnt had much this season.

  164. Dex, it was truly embarrassing and also downright disrespectful.

It humiliates us as a club and annoys us true fans who used to go week-in-week-out but now cant afford a season ticket or find tickets hard to come by.

These people should hand their tickets in, stay to the end and support the team, it was at 2-0 down when the fans were needed to really raise the team and, as always, we were silent.

If nothing else at home, we should never be outsung regardless of what is going on.

  165. ZimPaul it’s always good to read posts from supporters like you – always looking on the bright side and reminding us of the reasons to be cheerful. There are enough people out there pointing out all our faults, so it’s good to see the alternative view to bring some balance to proceedings. Keep up the good work!

  166. glad to read some common sence today

  167. …I agree with drew10….

  168. boomer, It was like they were all waiting for eachother to win the game, No-one wanted to take control. It has to be said that as captain and our best player, cesc must take some responsibility (which i’m sure he will)

  169. ZimPaul – I agree about Gallas. He took a lot of stick at the beginning of the season, but has performed well in the second half of the season.
    We missed his experience.
Alumnia was excellent again, it is great to see how much he has improved.

  170. Amazing how what was great becomes intolerably bad after a single loss. Sometimes it’s just not your day at the office. Gibbs’ slip could happen to anyone, and the following lucky bounce meant we paid for it.

We found out very little either way about this team yesterday. They played well to open, then got a two-punch KO, and then it was over. They park the bus, we press, they counter… predictably 1-1 for the remaining 78 mins.

Man U. are better than us right now, but not that much better. And we are getting better. I think the only thing we really need now is another tall experienced CB. I’m now entirely happy with Song as DM.

Complaining about workrate sounds stupid. They all (including Ade and RVP) worked HARDER in the 2nd half than I would have expected, because they knew without doubt even before the third goal that they were playing without hope of victory. It’s such a hard thing to do.

  171. when our players gain experience as with flamani and cole around 24-25 we cannot keep them as our wage structure does not allow as more than a few players on high wages this is the main reason the players go where they will get better money that experience pays – this we have know but why has Wenger been wanting in this dept as well – he should be sorting contracts quickly recently he has made some blunders in this area big ones and this has added to list of what went wrong – has he to much work to do after Dein left

  172. YEAH Frank and I agree!!

    My work here is done!

  173. Here is a quick question for everyone:

If the players who have left over the last few seasons wanted to come back, which ones would we welcome back?

I know Wenger never resigns anyone but hypothetically.

Personally I would have Hleb back in a second we could do with his dribbling again. He is a tosser though!

  174. Pat V, our true leader, the invincibility left with him

  175. As the season draws to a close, it is also appropriate to give a thought on who has been the outstanding player of the year for us. Is there a name that pops up instinctively? (Denilson?)

If there is not, isn’t it also a reason to celebrate how we have navigated the season as a team? Think about the players who were in and out due to injuries and could not impose themselves for the whole season.

  176. Things could be worse. We could be Real Madrid.

  177. “If the players who have left over the last few seasons wanted to come back, which ones would we welcome back?”

None. They left, for various reasons. And you need to move on. Would you take back a girl that cheated on you? I wouldn’t……..

  178. Can i say a well done to all who attended the match last night and stayed the distance, your reward is understanding , peace , and future. As for those who couldnt handle their emotions on the night, your future is a little less predictable. But you showed us you are true Arsenal fans, you showed the watching world how much you thought of your team. Just like the Dad who walks out on his sons or daughters perfomances because they see themselves as a reflection of their childs sucsess/failure. This parent will say theu have the right to critisise, to complain cause its their child, like they own it, and they want whats best for the child, THEY DONT, they want the best for themselves. So well done all the fans that walked out on the team they declare to love. this might be a bit off the wall but im sick of them and their sick un-educated arguments. Im as sick of them as they are of our team so you could say im as bad as them, but no, i will welcome them back, and they will be back

  179. Luke,

I agree with you. Denilson for player of the season. A close second would be Robin Van Persie with his choclate leg….Third is up for grabs….I’d give it to Gallas……..the man really showed character after all that he went thjrough…..nothing but respect for him.

  180. I would love if for Walcott to teach Evra a lesson soon.

  181. And on a final note … um … nothing to add really. Oh yes, Arsenal is not, and I pray never will become a “Chelsea” who are not a credit to the game. I have a weakness for Liverpool (goalkeeper ‘jungleman’ Bruce Grobelaar in their heyday was Zimbabwean). I have respect for what ManU have achieved but can’t stand their arrogance, and Ronaldo as their ‘example’ really is a supreme prick as human being. His gestures are horrible (yuk) and say a lot about character. I would give him a spanking if I was his father.

    We are the ARSENAL!!!

Pity about some of those supporters of ours.

  182. Man U had the upper hand last night – it won’t always be like that though. We have beaten them before and we will do it again. They had a full squad to choose from whilst we had 5 first team players missing. People seem to forget that little fact.

  183. Ateeb

Just for clocking in the most minutes on the pitch (hope this is factually correct), staying virtually free of injury, Denilson deserves an award. He has performed the backroom stuff to allowed others to shine.

  184. RVP or Denilson for me.

  185. Drew10, Bench could have been Rosicky, Gallas, Eduardo, Clichy plus those you name.

Or, more likely, those would have been in the side and some of the 11 on the pich would have been on the pitch.

    Get it.

  186. we had the best midfield hleb, flamani, fabregas, rosisky we played football that was out of this world Wenger said my priority is to keep my squad we all know what happened

trouble is we cannot keep good players

but we do have to move on we cannot go back to the Wenger vision with this squad

Wenger has to be ruthless denilson, djouru, sendros he needs to kill them bring in players to replace

keep rest of squad and if new players fit in and have quality we will be champions next seson

but we have to keep our good players this summer this time round

  187. Passenal, the team on the pitch was capable, they just didn’t turn up, it was like watching freindlt after that. Theyd had the stuffing knocked out of them. Then the fans left and they must of thought ‘why bother’. It worries me because players want to be addored. They’ll see the atmosphere at the nou camp and the bernabeau and want to be there instead, who wouldnt? There not English after all so have no childhood loyalty to Arsenal. We’ll see what happens in the silly season but I expect at least one big departure, ade probably

  188. Jerome at work, Gadget at home

It occurs to me that the trinity of English clubs knocking us out of Europe has arrived. Man U, chelsea, and Liverpool have all successful knocked us out. Now hopefully it has passed we can begin to excel in Europe, and start knocking those guys out

  189. Yogi your analysis is spot on. It really turned out to be a David and goliath affair.

We continue to criticise Adebayor and interpret his failure to score in both legs as an indication that he wants to leave. How?He played his heart out as did the whole team.Man U were simply more decisive and ruthless and made every opportunity count. Shooting on sight. Every time an Arsenal player had a ball there were 4 shirts around each player disrupting our passing game it was over before we got going after those 2 goals. Even Rooney was defending.

This had nothing to do with expereince. They got there tactics right. There is no shame in loosing to the current World and European champs. Lets hope their joy is short lived and Barca put them to the sword for TH14 sake.

Our players need our support even more now.We will come back even stronger next year. We are geting closer. Last year quarter finalists, this year semi finalists.Next year winners. COME ON ARSENAL.

  190. Girls have cheated on you Ateeb? Surely not!

  191. The player of the season is Arshavin.Reminds me of Bergkamp true world class No one else stands out

  192. Sadly yes, not girls, but a girl. Recently. Wretched woman, I tell you. Much better off without her.

  193. It strikes me that this is a very bad time to be having a go at players, suggesting replacements etc. We’re all gutted by the result and by the performance, on and off field. But I’m sure the players are too. Some may leave, but that’s life.

I prefer to think about such things as the emergence of Gibbs and Song this season, the signing of Arshavin, getting more than 30 games out of RvP :). Positives. And AW hasn’t suddenly become a bad manager. We’re in all the big competitions again next season, with a squad that will have learnt a lot from this season. I’ve resolved not to pay any attention at all to rumours in the close season or waste time discussing them. There will be plenty of them. The only thing that counts is actual signings.

Meanwhile, there are three games left ……..

  194. Arshavin possibly, he has secured our fourth spot. Saying that though Villa did completely crumble, thank god

  195. Agreed Mike if it was just from Xmas onwards but Denilson in particular has been superb ALL season for us.

Criminally overlooked by Arsenal fans so I won’t hold my breath.

  196. How likely does everyone think 3rd place is?

I expect us to beat United and Chelsea.

  197. Gooner4life

C”mon. How can you say Adebayor played his heart out.He was a disgrce in both legs.Fans are not judging him on just these two games but over the whole season. He has been lazy and disinterested.

  198. Personally i will find beating utd without pressure a bit irritating. Everyone willsay w crack under pressure. We will beat them though, we’ll have AA to drive us forward

  199. QoS,

3rd place is gone. 9 points to play for, 6 behind + worse goals difference.

  200. QoS – who should win and who will win is sadly obvious.

  201. My players of the season are between, Denilson, Almunia and RVP

  202. Alex Ice Cream

The truth is that we got battered in both legs. We were never in this tie – no even from the first minute at OT. The injuries, especially to Gallas proved too much to overcome in the end. Maybe this issue will be addressed in the summer but maybe not.

We were lucky to still be in the tie but this only lasted for 9, perhaps 11 minutes. Gibbs were truly unlucky but we rode our luck previously and it ran out last night.

We barely created a single chance in 180 minutes and for a team that prides itself on attacking football it shows how much we were dominated.

Ronaldo is a c*** but his superb run when the game was over show what desire he has. The way ManU battle is illustrative. I was proud of how most of the team battled but others need to improve in this regard.

People here know what I think of Adebayor and I felt for him in the first leg as he was isolated. Yesterday however, the difference between him and Bendtner was obvious. Nik broke his balls when he came on and won our only header of the night in the ManU penalty area. If Ade played against Rio Ferdinand till the start of next season I doubt he would win even a single header.

AW is no mug and he needs to know that Ade is committed to Arsenal. If he is then fine but I for one have my doubts.

We didn’t lose because of Ade however, we were beaten by a far better team and this is the real issue. We have never been beaten like that at home v United in the Wenger era and it shows in how much we need to improve both in the CL and the Prem if we are to beat United once more.

It was a great achievement for this young squad to reach the semis but it was one tie too far. If we had Gallas and Arshavin maybe it would have been less comprehensive a defeat or we may have pulled it out. We failed in both FA Cup and CL semi-finals however and that is the painful truth.

The question is how we raise our standards to match and exceed those of United.

  203. My player of the season is Denilson – who played the most minutes for the team when so many were out injured and, despite all the criticism and vitriol aimed at him, kept on going quietly, learning his new role and showing some brilliant performances of the season (Roma and Mancity at home, for example).

  204. Good morning/Afternoon all!!

Thanks Ateeb, Frank and Mr. Bob for holding the fort and any other I forgot to mention!

Great article as usual Yogi, only thing I disagree with is that Man U are a better team. I am not biased (maybe I am) but for my money if you line up the teams, Injury free, we are better.

Man U were not even the better team last night really, its just that, for the 100th time, Gibbs slipped, this was when the tide turned and confidence was shot, we were shell shocked!!

Put it like this, I am sure the most important thing on the players minds was not to let Man U score at all. Not only do they score but within 10 minutes! how would you feel? especially with the power of the away goal. Then a minute after 2!
It is why we stopped being the best team after the first 8 or so minutes, we looked unbelievable and then BAM! This would take the wind out of most teams.

We must hope for an injury free season next year, this team is great but without the full compliment its been rough at times. Its has been so hard for us to play our best players consistenly which makes it hard for them to get an understanding of eachother!

Does anyone think that Walcott couldve been moved to free him up? He was a non factor because due to the constant double team.

Anyway this team will be great and the only bad thing is that the same people saying that we are not good enough will be hogging all the glory!

    Proud of the youngsters!!

    ARSENAL!!!

    NO FEAR!!!!

    Be blessed!!

  205. All wrong … the player of the season is …
    of course …

    Alex Song

(pure bias on my part, I like him, always did)

    then … Bacari Sagna

  206. AIC, Man U battered us when?

Not true, we were unlucky last night, no one was battered!

  207. I dont get it!!

I think maybe, Fergie got his tactics down better than us.

  208. I would give it to Denilson, it would be AA but I guess he is too new.

  209. ateeb i would take all my ex partners back. line em up and see how many i could remember

  210. 3rd is beyound us now – but i am looking forward to how the team will react in the next few games – i hope this defeat has not affected them too much

it will also show how good a manager Wenger is as well if he can motivate the players to winning or drawing the last 3 games to keep our run going

best player of season Song or Toure – Song has made vast improvement

denilson i do not see what everyone else sees he cannot not tackle always in wrong position i cannot ok he dosen’t get injured as much as a few of the others this season but below average

  211. Numm if you look at the stats for the team Denilson has the best stats out of any of our players

  212. AIC,

    I agree to a point.

    Except these;

    1. We’ve beaten this same United this season. And we were worth our win. I don’t agree there was a gap.

    2. We actually dominated yesterday’s game in every way. We had one clear chance, but so did they but they got 3 goals!!

  213. …RvP, Denilson and Alex Song…..in that order…

  214. Alex Ice Cream

    Paul N,

Did you watch either of the games?

At least have the honesty to admit that we were totally dominated.

If you compare the work and saves that Almunia got through with Van der Sar it tells is own story.

ManU barely needed a keeper over the two legs as he was hardly used. We failed to impose our passing game for any length of time over 180 minutes and scored one goal from a penalty. If not for Almunia’s excellence in the first leg it could have been 3.

  215. QoS

yes Denilson was so good Wenger didnt play him in the biggest game of the season.Strange logic

As for beating Man Utd at OT you were obviosly asleep during the last two games against them.Man Utd were shit and we were brilliant.

  216. OG, whats up? The scoreline is very flattering, not saying Man U didnt deserve it but it makes things seem much worse that it was.

Its the pain of being beaten in the CL Semi’s by Man U that makes it all seem so bad but if it was a regular season match we would be saying “damn only if poor gibbs didnt slip”.

  217. Alex Ice Cream

    Ole,

Yes. There is a big difference between playing a league game v ManU and a CL semi and we found this out over the last week. We were well worth our win then and deserved to lose yesterday.

Dominated is not the word I would use and after the first 11 minutes it was all over. After that everything became less relevant.

We didn’t “dominate” the scoreboard though and that is all that counts.

  218. Num-rudd

so Denilson cannot tackle and aways in wrong position that he’s made 97 tackles and 140 interceptions? More than Gareth Barry (96/80), Mikel (65/59), Macherano(75/71), and of course far more than Song (51/61).

You must be one of those who only count leg-breaking/crunching tackle as tackles.

  219. Alex Ice Cream, We are better than man utd, how would they managwe without ferdinand and evra, rvp just returned and above all they got lucky, now twat face is the best player in the world again ? Hes shit, his goal was flukey, and his second was undefended. And running around with enthusiasim isnt a quality twat face has, we were dispondent for gods sake, i could have looked good. im sick of hearing from the press how good he is, well thats an opinion and to be honest im not interested in being fair im interested in us Now all the same old argumants rage about where we are going wrong, i repeat, they got lucky.

  220. gooner Dan – sorry what?

  221. Paul N

The difference is Man Utd are a TEAM and we are a bunch of individuals. You say Man Utd were not the better team even Wenger said they were and he is the most one eyed man in the world

Except it over the two games we got Ricky Hattoned

  222. AIC, yes I did!

We were not totaly dominated, battered at all but for the first 20 minutes of the first leg. Yes we were not good but to say battered is ridiculous.

Read what the Man U supporter posted earlier, they were scared yesterday as Arsenal looked great. 1 Mistake!

“WE LOST CONFIDENCE AFTER THE FIRST GOAL!”
    get it?

Anyway you have a right to your opinion.

  223. third is not beond us, jesus. We will beat chelsea on sunday, they could then well draw their last two, until that happens i should wait and see

  224. Masn utd are a team alright, a team of wankers

  225. Paul N – I understand your pain, but we were outplayed in both games. Man U were the better team.
Compare the amount of saves Almunia made to the amount Van der Sar had to make.
The fact is we created very little and if it wasn’t for Almunia the aggregate score woulsd have been much worse.

  226. man utd couldnt dominate in a black dress and whip, though i expect they would like to

  227. No Gooner Dan, I reject that!the problem we have too many injuries for the team to be cohesive, which you need when going against the best teams.

Have we forgotten, that Cesc, Sagna, Ade, Djourou and RVP just got back? Eduardo comes back and gets injured again! Gallas and Clichy out! not to even mention Rosicky!

How many teams would be at their best if they had this situation to deal with?

  228. Alex Ice Cream

    boomer, Paul,

We were overun in both games.

In addition to scoring 4 goals, ManU hit the post and Manuel made at least 4 great saves.

We scored from a penalty that was irrelevant and VDS made one routine save in both games. That’s it.

You can deny the reality and think that it just luck that ManU won the Prem last year (and this almost), won the CL and are in the final again or you can acknowledge that we did very well in getting as far as we did but they are just better and have a more experienced squad.

  229. Denilson’s my man of the season. He has been consistently good. While his performance in the home game vs Roma was just massive. Totti was so mad at not getting a kick of the football that he tried to kick Denilson’s balls instead.

Then RvP who carried our attack through the most difficult part of the season.

After that Alex Song who was consistently good from start to finish.

AA has to get a special mention, but nothing too Nietzschean. (hope I used that correctly)

  230. drew 10 – stats aren’t all their cracked up to be

when i watch arsenal even in the games we are doing well players like djouro and denilson do not inspire me with confidence – they are below average i get the same feeling when cygan first arrived first game and couldn’t control the ball on the first few touchs he had they are not Arsenal palyers which ever way you fudge the figures – we can better and we should get better this summer

he needs to be ruthless this summer keep hold of the good players and get rid of average players crunching numbers

  231. theBigM, I am in no pain but defending the team against all the negativity.

I never said that Man U were not the better team over both legs, it is why they are in the Final. they are not a better team to me though.

But they did not batter us and I will say this till the day I die, if Gibbs doesnt slip we may well have been rejoicing since last night. It was very unfortunate.

    NO FEAR!!!

  232. if you have a substitute defence then the goal keeper would be expected to have mopre input, this is why almunia was more involved, van der plank didnt because their defence had more work in time than ours. We were never dominated. paul N. your right , man

  233. I agree with AIC…we were outplayed and outfought by the mancs. we were piss fukin poor. but we are not piss poor. good to reach the semi’s though. just a gutter that we didnt show up…in either game.

  234. Dunfermline beat Morton 2-1 by the way.

  235. i understand everyones pain also, but negativity and believing the press is not the way forward. take off your black sunglasses

  236. oh ffs..what a waste of a fukin comment

  237. why did we have the majority of possesion Alex Ice Cream if we were as you would have us believe “over-run”

  238. Alex Ice Cream

    Paul,

“I never said that Man U were not the better team over both legs, it is why they are in the Final. they are not a better team to me though.”

This makes little, if any sense.

“But they did not batter us and I will say this till the day I die, if Gibbs doesnt slip we may well have been rejoicing since last night. It was very unfortunate.”

Gibbs was unlucky but over the 2 legs we were not. Ifs and buts mean little. How about if ManU were worse than us? If they had scored fewer goals, if Almunia had his hands, higher, if Park had missed?

We do not live in some alternative reality.

We can admit we were second best and strike to improve or we deny the reality and stay winning nothing.

  239. AIC, I cant get with you man, you only see the worst! you are up when you think we can pull it off and are full of negativity when it doesnt work out inour favor.

I like you, but this is why you get dogged on this blog so much, because you ride the tide. When we are up you are positive and when we are down you get negative in the worst way.

Man United over ran us because that is how you think.

They were better, that I cannot deny and will not.

    Boomer, Big Ups!!!

  240. …looks like an almighty battle royal is about to start amongst the shareholders….according to Arsenal Supporters Trust anyway….by the end of the summer the ownership of the club may be clearer….looks like the Carrs are making and even bigger pigs ear of this than the Hill-Woods oh so many years ago…..what a to do….what a bunch of flipping flippers…

  241. Alex Ice Cream

    boomer,

We didn’t at OT. We had possession last night but not often in dangerous areas. They played on the counter after the second goal.

The game was over after 11 mins the rest is irrelevant.

Who cares that we may have had more possession when the game was dead?

Who cares about possession when you need 4 goals in 70 minutes?

    Wake up!

  242. we have half our defensive unit out which obviously places strain on midfield. that is what happend, if you cant believe that we are better than them with a full team so be it, but your argumant about experience does not and cannot hold water,by that rationall a team that hadnt won couldnt win.

  243. ….talking of flipping flippers…almost none of the club level fans came back after half time….

  244. …perhaps had important meetings about shares to attend…

  245. ice cream guy, your the one who talks about domination. and dont tell me to wake up you self rightious twat

  246. Paul N – Saying a team played better than us is not negative, its called SPORTSMANSHIP.
Sometimes you have to be honest and say that the other team were better.
I know injuries have cocked up our season and if we had some our missing first teamers the story might have been different, but just because we had a lot of posession doesn’t mean we were dominant! Look at the number of goals and shots on target!

  247. …I suspect that some of the club level fans are swingers anyway….support wise I mean…

  248. That makes little sense does it AIC? Hull beat us this year are they better? Aston Villa beat us once and we drew once are they better than us.

When we beat Man U earlier on in the season, were we better than them up until the CL semi’s?

We best Chelsea too, were we better than them only up until the FA Cup semi’s.

You see for you best is only marked by wins and losses which would make Fulham better than Man United at this point.

    Gimme a break AIC!

we dont live in an alternative world, so are you telling me that unfortunate situations canot turn the tide in a match and it has nothing to do with how good the teams are? So Man U gettin the bogus penalty call against the Spurs had no effect on the outcome.

So us not gettin the penalty call in the CL last year and Pool gettin it had no effect on the game? please tell.

Yoy sir are off the hinges!

  249. “We can admit we were second best and strike to improve or we deny the reality and stay winning nothing.”

And here’s me thinking it was Wenger’s job to decide whether to make changes or stay the course.

Maybe we do live in some alternative reality where Arsène consults the armchair managers!

  250. Alex Ice Cream

    Paul,

Its not like that at all. I think we did well to get as far as we did and better that I thought we would.

    Negative? Just watch the games.

Just waiting for an excuse to “dog” me were you? I expected better from you but I was wrong.

I can accept the simple reality wheras you are totally deluded. This has nothing to do with positive or negative.

I have watched football for many, many years and this is my honest opinion, nothing more.

Its not my fault if the truth is too much for you and you need to stick you head up your arse to deal with it.

  251. “….talking of flipping flippers…almost none of the club level fans came back after half time….”

It looked like a bomb scare on TV.

  252. Alex Ice Cream

    OOU,

Yes it is his job. He knows what he has to do and he will be judged on what he achieves.

  253. “Paul N – Saying a team played better than us is not negative, its called SPORTSMANSHIP”

BigM – read my posts before you post, I have said it numerous times that Man U were obviously the better team over the 2 legs but unlike AIC, I dont think they over ran us outside of the first 20 minutes of the first. If I want to be biased why would I even see that?

  254. Alex Ice Cream

    OOU,

Some people wanted to leave after the first goal never mind half time.

  255. Jerome at work, Gadget at home

I have uttered this squad is in a much better position that we were last season, but Arshavin’s somewhat pivot nature in the squad does need to be addressed.

As much as I’d love to see Tevez in the squad, I do believe (or at least hope) the squad will improve to the point where Arshavin is a less crucial cog within a well oiled and serviced machine.

I think this belief is well founded. All the young’uns have shown immense improvement. Bendtner, Denilson, Song, Gibbs, and Walcott have improved. Hell even Eboue has gotten better.

I don’t think we truely need to make any purchases given the progress we’ve see thus far, but if anyone leaves…

  256. “Its not my fault if the truth is too much for you and you need to stick you head up your arse to deal with it.”

I can deal with any truth, It takes nothing off of me to say that Man U deserved to go to the Finals, they did.

I dont by your dominated talk, thats about it.

Answer me, when we beat Man U earlier this year, did that make us better than them?

  257. Alex Ice Cream

    Paul N,

We didn’t have much of the game v Bayer Leverkuesen in fact they had 66% possession at Highbury but we won 4-1.

Don’t tell me what I think about football with you pathetic argument about results. I will spell it out for you so that you can understand shall I.

    ManU 2(3) consecutive Prems
1 CL plus 1 final at least, comprehensive 4-1 win over us in semi.

    League Cup

    Arsenal

    No trophies
    CL semi and final.

    Get it now?

  258. …I wonder how AW copes with having three major shareholders…nay four hanging around the club….must be quite intriguing….every time he walks through the offices….psssst Arsene…Arsene over here…stick with me and I will get you some players…help you improve the Deeefence………..pssst Arsene over here don’t listen to that fellow….stick with me…I have always been good to you darlng…haven’t I big boy……….pssst Arsene over here…don’t listen to those schmoozers…I will get you the best watch in the world..real diamonds…still got blood on em….diddleipdipdipdip….ees zat Arrrrzen….vy yoo nat ansor yorrrphone?….steeck with me…or quite simply you die….i

  259. Alex Ice Cream

    Paul,

I don’t judge by just a couple of results.

    You do.

  260. …Tallyho, Arsene how are you old chap…oh blimey I have forgotten my bloomin trousers….so many things to think about…

  261. we are out and not going to the final.

the team needs to inprove or we are going to end up 3rd raters for a few more seasons –

gibbs was unlucky but he has been a revelation and have confidence that we have cover next season for that position and we can rotate

its just other positions sometimes it looks like the players do not know what role they are meant to be playing and that pisses me off as looks like the coachs and mangers are not giving players the information to gain experience they are just being put on pitch to figure it out for themselves without any direction and that seems evident more in the CL semi-final

the scarier part is that last night of all nights there was no reaction – even after we scored they went down to 10 men the tempo didn’t increase (maybe because RVP got injured it took sting out) but come on down to 10 men should have give them a lift even if we were out

what type of players should we bring in and who should go?

  262. Listen to this guy!

AIC, you are the one judging by a “COUPLE” of results, not me.

We are talking about this season, no? If we are to say this season, we are the now inform team in the PL. Since we have a unbeaten streak of 21 matches does that now make us better than Man U, Chelsea and Pool at present?

I Just want to see of your logic covers every area of who is better.

  263. …did you guess which ones were which everyone?…well did you?…sillybillies aren’t they?…and one of them….one of them mind….is going to own the whole club one day…and maybe even the whole world….

  264. Frank, what us man?

  265. …naaah, Paul N…read the threads…trying to cheer you up…

  266. Num rudd,

who we should bring in…….no one.
    who should go……….no one.

  267. Agree with Gadget……And who will be coming back from loan, and make a certain combination for next year? Where does Traore stand right now. Is he our second choice LB or third? What about Barazite, he’s 19? Simpson? Who’ve shown enough progress to be included in the squad for next year. What about the younger ones we saw little of this year in our first team. Do they stay or do they go out on loan?

  268. – combination
    +contribution

  269. Thanks Frank!

I am a little heated, It just pains me that these fans will be celebrating with us when Arsenal do the great things that we know they will do.

I am so proud of this team and will not allow any man to behave as if our team was totally outclassed and run over!

  270. …one of our big shareholders…shares a wigmaker with Phil Spector….

  271. One of them is related to Jabba the Hut

  272. …one of them had a bit part in Marathon Man…….

  273. Paul,

erm..we didnt turn up man.. we were shite. i cant remember vandersar making many saves. I have not seen us look so un threatening for a long time. we all know this a great team…im just miffed as to what the f*ck happened and why we didnt turn up.

  274. One of them is the ugliest creature ever born

  275. …one of them is a very small man…but wears a fat costume…if you look carefully you can see the top of the zip at the back of his neck….

  276. …one of them has a picture of Mata Hari…on er…their…thats it their..if I say her it will give it a way…wall….

  277. One of them looks like he lurks in Pans Labyrinth

  278. ok DG, ok.

  279. one of them looks like he likes to chew mops

  280. Second CL semi-final in all the club’s history. And we have gone backwards?

  281. Alex Ice Cream

    Ateeb,

Traore, Barazite and Simpson are not the answer.

  282. ….we are almost there and that is why people are so frustrated…but we have to stick by the manager and squad…stop dising them all…thats the hack dwarfs job….fed on AWs ascendancy and now he thinks he is going to stick his snout in the trough of Arsene’s descent…ain’t gonna happen, warty little toad…ain’t gonna happen……

  283. one of them looks like a hairy fish in jelly

  284. LosAngelesGooner

I honestly believe we were done in by a fluky slip of the foot and the horrible horrible UEFA away goals rule. Until the first goal I thought we looked positive and good and sure to create some chances. Afterwards we totally deflated, because any sane person would realize that three unanswered goals in this circumstance was all but impossible (sans Arshavin, of course!) and we knew it. If all goals were equal no matter where scored, which in the sport of football is how I remember it working, we’d have still been a longshot at that point but doable. To say the better team over two legs won is true, but heavily affected by what happened at 8 mins of the second leg, if Gibbs stays on his feet as he would do 999 times out of 1000 times I’m 100% positive you’d have seen an entirely different Arsenal for the remaining 82 mins. Enough to win it, who knows, quite possibly not, but it would have been a match.

  285. …which members of the squad’s first names are Armand, Nacer and Jay?…

….Traore, Barazite and Simpson…correct….thats the answer…you are wrong AIC…. you were asking the wrong question….

  286. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

    I didn’t ask a question. I gave an answer.

I can see it now, CL semi next year and we have those 3 on the bench to turn it around if needed. Our opponents must be sh1tting it.

  287. …yes I know…you got it wrong….I just happened to ask the question after you gave the answer….

  288. …you need to read the question before answering…

  289. Don’t fu** with their brains Frank…….not cool…..after all they’ve been made to go through……

  290. question – how much money have we got – have we got any money to spend?

  291. silver gunner

guys have you seen the tabloid pic of bendtner caught with his pants down, not good in wake of our humiliating exit to the mancs

  292. silver gunner

sorry but this is not sending the right message to me as afan

  293. silver – and it gets worse people are already laughing their pants off

  294. silver gunner

I just miss the days of trully commited players not a bunch of mecenaries that dont give two shi*s about the club they play for.

  295. …you read the Daily Wail, sg?…

  296. Putting a link to the Daily hate on this forum is not sending the right message. I miss the days of truly committed fans, rather than fans who truly should be committed.

  297. …I agree with steww…who needs fans like sg….doing the tabloids job for them….

  298. What I dont understand is how the Fletcher foul wasn’t a red card offence. Can somebody explain that to me?

  299. …sg, the online paperboy…

  300. Just remember these people hate Arsenal, we are Arsenal fans we therefore love Arsenal. Why on earth would we want their poison made available here of all places.

  301. Oh Bendtne why? How much do you want us to defend you?

On anoter note. What the fuck is wrong with you people? It’s his private life, he can do whatever the fuck he wants after a game. It’s sad that he has to try to hide his face because of fuckers like you who are so judgmental. Gallas with a cigratte? What the hell was that……

P.S He almost got away with it, just one picture with his face. Good try though. Hope it was worth it. lol

  302. I don’t mind. He looks like he’s been drowning his sorrows. I kinda relate to that.

Besides, the way these young’uns wear their trousers these days, it was an accident waiting to happen. And why are there no creases in his jeans?

What irks me isn’t that he’s had a rough night, it’s the unfair juxtaposition of the Bendtner pics with the Man U players who still have a title to chase this season, and logically wouldn’t be given a night off. And the suggestion that Rio and Rooney are angels off the pitch is also pretty offensive.

But then it is the Daily Heil.

  303. silver gunner

guys the picture doesn’t lie I am a loyal fan and was dissapointed seeing him ousted from a nightclub with his pants at his knees.

Don’t misunderstand me I dont hold much with what was written but like i said pics dont lie

  304. …very expensive pants….quite a snappy dresser, Nic…as opposed to the Manc players in their M&S suits…

…wouldn’t mind betting that Phil Brown lodges a complaint with the FA on this one…

  305. silver gunner

frank not a paper boy just a messenger for our supposed pro footaballer, as wenger employs a strict no alcohol policy what do these pics say

  306. …pictures very often lie….he may well have been adjusting himself when the bouncer man-handled him…we are witnessing a clear case of assault and all you are bothered about is his pants…

  307. silver gunner

well i was gutted yesterday, i hope gibbs doesn’t feel disheartned for too long cause over the two legs he done himself proud

  308. dont think much more can be said, still feeling gutted .I realy dont want anyone 2 leave in the off season, maybe 1 or 2 coming in will be ok.I also think that Man poo wanted it much more than us.also the refree was against us as usual .

  309. …the pictures say nothing…context is everything and the hack made the context up….

  310. AIC,
You are verbose, and unable to provide context which is what Paul N is helping you with.
Argue, argue. We will never agree with you.
I’m not sure if you’ve played football, but I will tell you for certain that the difference between the teams last night was minimal. Had early momentum gone the other way, and it could have, Arsenal would have looked ‘dominant’ and ManU would have looked a bit ‘ragged’. The difference would still be minimal. Psycology.

  311. silver gunner

Frank pants being trousers dude and given his often arrogant attitude this does not sit well with me personally. But frank heah some fans may not care…….

  312. oh yeah getting caught pissed with your keks down is alot worse then say…roasting or being a thug or missing a drug’s test due to smoking some weed.

  313. daily mail – did any read the article in sports section on sunday by piers morgan about red swine flu very funny

benthr should not be caught with his pants down how many other Arsenal players now do you see being caught with their pants down – idiot

    he will go now

  314. silver gunner

Frank the pics are pretty self explanatory i would have thought….

  315. …no pants are knickers…that is I was referring to his underpants…they look pretty classy…

  316. silver gunner

DukeGoonem who missed a drug test for weed smoking surely not a pro footballer? and going out on the pis* with mates is all good but on the day you get KO’ed by the mancs and outplayed the way we were, maybe just me but it didn’t sit well.

  317. they look like pants to me Armani for women like the women he is does he not like to wear pink boots and have lace on his kit

  318. Disapointed, but not overly so. Now that’s is over, I can say I did not expect us to win. Despite great fighting words from AW, Even the most biased knew we are significantly weaker this year.

United once more made their point. You have to shake your head with begrudging admiration, but they have our measure. our worst defeats seem to always come at their hand.

Although I have lost belief in the team this season, In seasons past we could at least fall back on the argument that we play superior football. I have not seen much wengerball this year, even in our runaway victories.

It says a lot that I am looking forward to the other semi more than I was looking forward to watching our own. I expect some great football, and as I have no stakes, a stress less and enjoyable match 🙂

Still, I will take the positives: The worst run of injuries in years, and our weakest team in years, and we went deep, and easily met our minimum target in the league.

However, some very serious issues to resolve if we want to improve.

  319. …all you know is what you can see… Nic Bentner’s trousers have fallen down…perhaps because a man has him by the arm so he is unable to pull them back up….the rest is surmising,sg

  320. “Besides, the way these young’uns wear their trousers these days, it was an accident waiting to happen. And why are there no creases in his jeans?”

    HEE HEE!

Now thats funny OOU! Have you seen these younsgster walking with their legs spread apart to ensure their jeans dont hit the ground?

    That “style” gets me everytime!

ZP, listen to the song change when we beat Chelsea over the weekend!

  321. “given his often arrogant attitude”

Hold up. I’ve never thought of Bendtner as remotely arrogant. Quite the opposite actually.

What’s he done/said that’s meant to be arrogant?

  322. sorry OOU, creases in jeans in a no no for young folk, from the dryer to the body.. is how it we do it.

people laugh at me all the time because I iron my jeans!

  323. NB, has been a classy young man this season, thats for sure and he came on last night and played as if his neck was on the line.

I dont endorse gettin druck, but “if” he did, he is not the first and not the last for sure.

Give the young man a break.

  324. silver gunner

OneOfUs “i think he was quoted saying that he believes he will be world class”. Even if that were the case dont go out and say it if your aren’t anywhere near there yet. It is all good having faith in your ability but that comment bordered on arrogance for me.

  325. …you don’t know anything of the sort….all you know is that he has his trousers down and a fellow is holding him….the fellow with him would appear to be colluding with the photographer…

  326. …where did you read that, sg…in the Daily Wail….?

  327. The Arsenal Board have a lot to do with our lack of spending. They dont want to spend the cash and Wenger agrees with that policy. The board are busy lining their own pockets trading shares and turning highbury into flats (if they had sold highbury we could have spent some money by now) and are happy just being contenders not winners

  328. Haha, PaulN. I never got the round-the-ankles look either… although I’m not really very old; I was just imitating something my Dad might say.

    What’s an iron? LOL

A friend of mine once wore the same pair of jeans every day for four months without washing them. He’s a junior doctor now…

  329. come on we have a big game this sunday – if he was really committed he would have had quiet drink at home called a few call girls and not made a arse out himself – he has let us down big time

    he has got to go

  330. silver gunner

Frank dude you believe what you want he looks pis*ed, his trousers are around his anckles, he fails to bring his trousers abouve his ankles in the cab just basically looking off his head the day we get knocked out?

Think waht you want i have made my mind up without reading and daily mail crap.

  331. people, i want to say something:

if you think we are playing fantastic football, please fucking wake up.

we have become a team that can neither attack nor defend.

we can’t slice through defences the way previous teams could, because the off-the-ball movement isn’t there. we are not thinking one step faster than the opposition defence.

    the directness is missing.

right now, our players are all the kind who play as a team. there isn’t anyone who can truly go on his own, carry the team when the team is down.

that is the difference between us and the top teams around europe. look at rooney, look at drogba, gerrad and torres.

ok, i correct myself, we have arshavin. but we need more. previously, we had henry, pires, bergkamp, overmars, people who could turn it on and make the difference.

i am not saying who is shit or what.

i am just telling you what we have been missing all this while.

but i guess it is useless, not as if you could do anything about it.

  332. Most probably had his belt unbuckled and his buttom popped off while he was dancing. Manybe he was doing those moves that Eboue and Ade do? they look like they would cause a botton to pop off!

  333. were it not for the slip it would have been a different game thats for sure…united had a ruthlesness about them that we couldnt match….it was a real body blow.

But we are the better team. We’ll keep the squad we have…..we’ve been through alot this year….last night is the end of what has been a baptism of fire…a coming of age.

Arsenal to do the double next year…..

    Scratch that…the treble

    NO FEAR

  334. Passenal,

You got to admire the guy. After his lat year antics, he’s not once talked about leaving or anything of that sort. He’s continously come out to quell any rumours linking him with another club. That was some wise words from him. What’s sad is that people still hold him for what he did last summers, he stayed unlike Hleb and Flamini(someone everyone would love to have back and forgive him instantly). Really shows what retarded fans we’ve to deal with. 15 goals and 10 assists, wit the injury disrupted season. Pretty good for me. Still our number one striker.

  335. i wish we were shameless enough to take something we don’t deserve, like liverpool in 2005.

  336. …you see, sg…you say this sort of thing does not sit easy with you…..but that is not true is it…it sits very easily with you…in fact I would say you are very pleased to have discovered these photos and accompanying article….I put it to you that you don’t like Nic Bendtner very much and that you saw this article in the Daily Wail as a wonderful opportunity to stick the knife in…so to speak…so much so that you decided to spread it further by bringing it along to an Arsenal blogsite…maybe even several….

…you are a tittle tattle merchant, sir…and no good will come of it you mark my words….

  337. ateeb,

if he had dare mention leaving, do you think he would be playing last night?

no, he would have been in a coffin, dead.

  338. I think Big Nic will be huge for us next season. He’s come on massively this season and is a real team player, putting in his shift in whatever position he’s asked to play. He wears the shirt, I support him. I absolutely do not care what the Daily Hate want me to think of him.

  339. Not too old myself but this generation has flown by me as far as their style, I do like my pants around my waste, maybe a little lower, I am still tryin to be kool a little.

“A friend of mine once wore the same pair of jeans every day for four months without washing them. He’s a junior doctor now…”

damn! Well, I sure he has enough money to buy as many jeans as he wants now!

  340. gooner foreva

all i want for christmas is for bendtner to score more goals.

  341. silver gunner

tittle tattle, shmatlle dude, the guy needs to learn from the likes of Ian Wright and DB10 these were true pro’s they kept their private life private and would never be caught like this Frank you may not like me but the fact is this guy need to learn to behave himself apply himself if he is ever to achieve his dream of being world class.

  342. its common knowledge that the daily mail is a vile nationalist closet racist scourge of the tabloids….

against arsenal for them its personal.

By the way i would love to slap piers morgon

  343. After watching the game again last night…it looked like we missed the directness of Arshavin like players, and the Foxiness & Clinical finishing of Eduardo.

If you watch Arshavin play, he takes a direct route towards the 18 yard box of the opponent either looking to shoot, find the assist, or just create havoc.

Eduardo’s “know how” to score “Where to be” in a crowded box…was also missing.

We are very predictable without those kind of players, we reach as far as we can go on the wings and either cross to no one in the box, or turn around and go back inside to no avail.

With teams like Man Ur & Shamski who are very good at defending…this kind of approach will never work…We would have a better chance against Liverpool in any final, but not Man Ur & Shamski.

The good thing is, we do have those players like Arshavin and Eduardo….they were just not available yesterday.

Yes luck abandoned us yesterday – Nothing new there – but we didn’t really pressure Cheats United until minute 70 or so.

People wrote us off this year – just like every year – but we still managed to compete, we just have to learn “perseverance” to cross the final line to the winning side.

Still love you Arsenal…Love you Wenger, and a special love you Gibbs too….I really do.

    G4E

  344. silver gunner

I actually think the big dane could be good but i am worried his focus is elsewhere. If he could just get his head down train hard keep his mouth shut from the media, not get anymore dodgy pics from the media then he could make it otherwise he will go the same way as jemain pennant.

  345. ….I think Nic is alright as he is…he is a character….I like that….he is improving and developing all the time on the pitch….you want to read less gossip columns, sg…and just focus on the football….

  346. ….DB10 is a family man….Nic is not…..Ian Wright was very happy to play fast and loose with the press and media…

  347. gooner foreva

    gunner 4 ever,

i agree with you about the predictablity of our play.

have you guys ever seen barcelona play?
even against a team that went all out to defend, as chelsea did last week, they were able to turn them inside out a few times. people talk about how chelsea completely shut them out, but forgot that chelsea rode their luck sometimes.

i think the difference between barca and us is that the players look, get the ball, pass, and move.

whereas we get the ball, look, pass, and stop.

  348. I do agree that we have to look to be more direct, but we were doing that until that situation. I am sure if it was a matter of personnel but a loss of belief and maybe mindset of some players.

    I think!

  349. I am “not” sure…

  350. Paul, I admire your steadfastness under fire today. Your point was perfectly reasonable.

    No fear!

  351. Ateeb,

In my opinion, when fit and available, Van Persie is our number 1 striker currently. What he lacks in pace and aerial threat over Ade, he makes up in inventiveness, directness and better shooting ability.

Next season will be interesting. Have a hunch that Wenger will experiment with Arshavin as a striker in pre season. He has all the attributes of a good second striker who can play off the target man. If that is the case I hope Rosicky makes a return on our left wing. Onwards and upwards.

  352. ***NEWS FLASH***

6 days after he went missing police have annouced that Arsenal footballer(!!) Adebayor has been found. He had been in Rio Ferdinands pocket all this time
His first words were”where”s my 80k”.Police said this showed he was back to his old self

  353. Ah Rosicky…comeback my friend, what a valuable player you are…We really miss you.

  354. what a booger

  355. Nicholas Bendtner has explained why he was in a night club at 4 am with his trousers down by his ankles. The Dane said “i did it to prove to Arsenal fans i CAN score in a brothel”

  356. …well if people are going to post comments from hacks…here is one…

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/may/06/arsenal-supporters-champions-league

…many of our ‘supporters’ are an abject disgrace..u

  357. Thanks Mr. Bob!

  358. Juat fuck right off Arsenose. People like you really make me feel ill.

  359. And YES, NO FEAR!!

Trust me I am making sure I come to England next yeat to celebrate our PL title!!!

  360. Frank – the behaviour of some fans this season is more embarrassing than anything any of the players have done!

  361. If you do that Paul, I’ll buy you an orange juice. I look forward to the party.

  362. Great article Frank

An Arsenal supporter who admits Man Utd were the better team. Please read Paul N

  363. R.I.P

  364. Arsenal legend Emmanuel Adebayor in an exclusive interview in the Togo Echo when asked was last night the biggest disappointment of his career said “Of course not the biggest disappointment of my career was when Derby County got relegated”

  365. I think you should read what Paul N said, Arsenose.

I have been reading his posts for a long time now and he has always argued his position from the point of view of an Arsenal fan without abusing any individual or any club.

The first thing you do here is abuse players in our team and fans on here.

    He’s a gentleman, you are a knob.

  366. ZimPaul, u rock…RASER

AIC @ 3:03, well said. Agree for the most part.

I just got over yesterday after indulging in the diverse comments here on ACLF. I still believe in AW’s vision.
With 1 or 2 tweaks we’ll be where we need to be DOMINANT!

My deepest hurt from last night was not having Gael Clichy on the pitch cancelling out Ronaldo. (And Gallas’ experience as well).

INJURIES really really f**ked us this season (as always).
    But hey…we’re still ARSENAL

    The heir apparents.

We’ll see what ajustments Le Great Boss makes over the Summer.

But meanwhile I’m sitting back, looking forward to our final PL games.

Just for morale, shits & giggles

    RASERS!!!!!!!

  367. …the only humiliation last night was several thousand Arsenal ‘fans’ pouring out of the ground on 60 minutes….with no club level seats occupied at all….after the first half…to end our sides European campaign and applaud the players off…..probably about 8,000 fans in the stadium…..we truly have the worst supporters in the Prem…

….oi…fuckwit…Arsenal Nose….you listening…I stayed and clapped both sets of players off the pitch….real fans have that sort of class…

…they played better than us over the 180 minutes…but next year…we are going to stuff it right up Patrice Evra’s arse……and thats a promise….

  368. Some of our fans don’t have the “You’ll never walk alone” mentality…they actually have the “If we don’t win…you’ll walk alone” mentality.

Were the fans leaving is giving a statement of disapproval for the Manger, the Club, the Players, or all of them? But my questions is: What kind of message this reactions will give to teams visiting the Emirates, “if we hold on long enough their fans will abandon them?”

If our fans continue like this, we will be the joke of the PL. One thing I know I don’t want…is one of those fans fighting next to me and running away and leaving me alone on the battle field when the going gets tough….These are called cowards.

  369. honour Mr. Bob!

Didnt I admit that they were the better team in the CL Semi’s?

In America, they have a slogan “reading is fundamental” try it Mr. Nose!

I am coming and we will have to link up for sure!

maybe I will sip a beer, a wine cooler maybe for the fun of it, as long as I take my time I should be ok! ha ha!!

  370. Bendtner officially apologized on Arsenal.com …. I thought that was the MAGNIFICENT display i was expecting

“I love this club and was so disappointed to lose against Manchester United last night. Reaching a Champions League Final is one of my biggest dreams and getting knocked out was a massive blow.

“However, no matter how disappointed I was, it does not excuse my behaviour later in the evening. I may be young but my actions were a poor error of judgment and something I deeply regret. I want to apologise to the Club and the fans for letting them and myself down.

“I cannot change the past but will learn from my mistakes. Tuesday night is behind me now and I want to use my energy to fully focus on our three remaining games this season, starting with Chelsea on Sunday.”

  371. …too right Gunner4Ever….

  372. …good lad….

  373. …Nicky is going to be a real star…he has real bottle….

  374. …and great underpants….looked clean as well…his mum will be pleased…

  375. “These are called cowards.”

tell me about it G4E, full of bravado!

I love Arsenal, REALLY!… as long as we win every match!”

I think a good name is acting like a real Punk!

  376. Alex Ice Cream

If we are going to use the term striker to mean both the second striker and the main centre forward our number 1 is neither RvP or Ade, its Arshavin. He is on a different level to Ade or RvP. Arshavin looks like he is up there with Bergkamp, Pires and Henry.

Arshavin has to play number 10 which means RvP is a squad player. RvP is often injured and when he is for the big games he is wasted on the left wing. This has been his best season however, but I am not convinced he is durable enough to build the attack around or that he is as good as Arshavin.

  377. ahhh the pain……….. we deserve more….need confidence

    need silverware to gain confidence……

    need confidence to gain silverware……..

    we are growing

IN wenger we trust….I know next season will be ours

  378. That was a typically disgraceful mail juxtaposition of pictures tha assume that we can’t read the words and see that they are quite different occasions.

Excellent G4E, excellent. Join Paul and I for a drink this time next year?

  379. Here we go again AIC. AA is brilliant. RVP is second string, blah de blah.

  380. Alex Ice Cream

The people who walked out early are a disgrace.
On guy “threatened” to leave after the first goal. The guy next to me stood in utter silence after the 10th minute and looked like he was going to start a fight at any moment.

I spoke to someone and said that it was our duty as supporters to stay to the end. They asked why, and I replied that that is what supporters do.

I am not sure he was convinced.

The shame was that the atmosphere was great before the game and until the first goal. Even after the first goal there was still noise.

  381. Paul you’re in the US right? 🙂 CBob, are you offering a virtual drink?

I really hope I can do it one day CBob and meet many of the good Arsenal fans on this blog…London has a place in my heart and I’d love to go back and remember the good days.

  382. Hey, G4E we can have a virtual drink anytime. I mean I’m having one now, wait, that’s a real one.

Next year, last home game, we should all have a real one together. It will be a celebration i am absolutely sure. Ponyboy can buy.

  383. RVP is class and I don’t know why we compare apples to oranges? Arshavin has his traits, RVP has his. The challenge is how to get the best of each to benefit the team.

RVP & Arshavin did not play together much, so we don’t know if pairing them would work or not.

  384. We will CBob, I know we will…I have a feeling it will be the Premier League though, not the Champions League.

  385. Alex Ice Cream

Last night shows where we are in European football. We are almost certainly better than any Italian and Spanish teams with the possible exception of Barca and are also better than all the English teams bar those above us in the table.

Its a remarkable achievement given the youth of the team and the financial constraints that the new stadium bring.

However, it is not enough to win the big trophies as at the moment as ManU, Chelsea, Lpool or Barca will stop us.

Last night completed a miserable hat-trick for us – losses to Chelsea, ManU and Lpool in the CL in the last 5 years. The sorry stat is that in 6 games we haven’t won one tie.

We are not far away but we said this last year. Its clear that we are just missing something.

  386. People keep talking up one man but we beat Chelsea and Man U without AA and go to the CL Semis also

We just need to be injury free and it will be a different story.

Give me Gallas and Clichy at the back and things would have been different.

I am also sure that they players were apprehensive because they knew the defense wasnt the strongest.

  387. ah the good old days look time before we get them back something to look forward too i quess

drinks on me if we win league next season

  388. Those last two posts of Paul n and AIC sum up the difference between glass half full and glass half empty posters on here.

They both seem reasonable but one is miserable and the other optimistic.

  389. Alex Ice Cream

    Paul,

How are we going to have an injury free season?

I would take this over anything else but it doesn’t seem to happen.

I would love to know why we are so cursed with injuries.

    What is the solution?

  390. Well done Nik. He’s young, he made a mistake and he has apologised – end of story.

  391. Alex Ice Cream

    consols,

We just lost a CL semi so I am miserable.

I take it that you are happy about this?

  392. Nik, Blame it on the JUICE

  393. …RvP and AA are both class acts…no doubt about it…you can build a team around both of them….for me RvP is more like DB10 and AA is like TH14…..different stature…and of course they are there own players and don’t need the comparisons….but a side with both could be amazing…I am ok with Ade but for me the absolute nailed on forwards who have already made it big time and have real footballing brains are AA,RvP and Eduardo….

  394. California Gooner

I have to agree with Alex IC here, we were well and truly battered. Yes Gibbs was unlucky, but we were lucky to even bee in the tie at that point. And we failed to produce any real offense over the two games.

As much as I hate Man U, they are an awesome team right now. It will be interesting to see if we can close the gap with them through squad improvement and a few astute purchases. Perhaps their wall of debt will finally swallow them up.

Meantime, I look forward to the Chelsea game on Sunday and will hope Barcelona goes through and stuffs Man U in the final.

  395. Paulie Walnuts

Man Yoo did a job on us in both games.

Defend deep , pull the full backs in & crowd the midfield then with Ronaldo , Rooney & the runners they can always craft a chance.

These things happen & our boys WILL learn.

  396. AIC – solution to injuries we need be giving the players more steroid shakes as they do at manu and uventus only way to beef up cattle

not sure injuries breed more injuries as other players have to play more and then they get injured vicious circle of injuries

  397. Arshavin has to be the second striker next season. The guy is a football genius, the new Dennis Bergkamp. We just need to find him a partner,I just hope Wenger plays him there sunday.

  398. …why don’t you want RvP to play Thomas 4…?..

  399. Alex Ice Cream

    Thomas,

I would be tempted by Eduardo with Arshavin but their lack of size is a problem. I am not sure how Eddy would play upfront in that system either.

Arshavin as number 10 is vital if this team is to fulfill its potential and win trophies.

As you say, his partner is key.

  400. …so you don’t want RvP in your side either, AIC….?

  401. What makes you think it was your post that was miserable, AIC?

  402. …I would have thought that AA would be delighted to play with RvP and vice versa….

  403. gooner foreva

    Paul N,

did we beat chelsea, man u convincingly?

all these results don’t count, actually.

stop bringing up these games to tell yourself everything is all right, because that is what we have been doing for 4 years.

we have all been mediocre, all right? the team and the fans.

  404. “…why don’t you want RvP to play Thomas 4…?..”

Don’t you know there isn’t room for 2 good players in the team? Now that Arshavin is here, the players who were good are now seen as rubbish. Arshavin better enjoy his time as a fan favourite because his turn will surely come.

  405. Frank should go fuck himself.

  406. AIC,

Agreed – the entire team needs to be set up around AA in the final third. The problem is I think you really need to have fast technical players playing off him. We don’t move the ball at pace through midfield enough when AA is not playing. What I see happening is a two tiered strategy – 1 with technical fast players to play top teams and 2 a plan B for physical teams. Ade will revert to plan B. Plan A will include players like Rosicky, RVP, Eduardo, Theo, Vela. I can’t see Ade and AA linking – just as much as I don’t think Ade and RVP have really dovetailed either. The big problem with Ade is we end up having to play alot of crosses – and our full backs and wingers have not given him adequate service.
I’ve said it before here – I think Bendtner will be sold. He’s a very talented player – but I just don’t think the lad has the Raw Material to make it at Arsenal and Vela/Simpson now deserve a chance to cut it. I also think Diaby will be cut loose. He just hasn’t been delivering consistently enough. We need a left Winger, a holding midfield player, a CB and a goalkeeper.

  407. …when have AA and TvP played together for any length of time for you to make these massive judgements?…

  408. I see the scizophrenic is back

  409. Hey guys,

I still feel like s***, yet when i come on here i always feel slightly better…..it really amazing me where all these ‘fans’ pop up from after some games… because on the weekend when we beat Pompey away with a second string side….i only remember a select few coming on here…mostly Rasers…….Anyhoo i am still a proud Gooner…..i throught that those to suker punches were awful to concede two away goals in that fashion was something i cant imagine happening in the CL again anytime soon….still like i said yesterday i throught the team battled on well after that….

    Positives from yesterday…..

Nasri was excellent when allowed to roam and showed great ability to create….

    The gained experience….

We know that when a team has money and lcuk it’s a b****……..

King Kolo was back….commanding preformance without Willy…….

Eboue is a excellent full-back left or right…..

Biggest negative on the night….Arsene Wenger’s face after the second goal….i was near tears at this point…..i think the shock numbed me….

  410. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

Its possible that RvP as number 10 and Arshavin on the left could work but I believe that Arshavin should play number 10 as you know with Tom or maybe Nasri on the left assuming that we don’t buy anyone in this position. If Tom doesn’t come back, will he be replaced?

Arshavin’s best position is the same as RvP’s and I believe that Arshavin is far better. Your best players should play in their best positions. RvP can’t play on the left though. If he could, I would have no problem having him in the team but I don’t think RvP can play there.

Its not that I don’t want RvP in the team, its that with Arshavin at number 10 I can’t see where RvP fits in.

  411. Let me ask a few questions please.

What is the purpose of a goal keeper?

If a goalkeeper makes some great saves, is that luck?

Is it our fault that Almunia kept the game close? is that a bad thing?

    madness!

  412. if you are talking who to play on sunday up front it will be Theo, Arshavin and Ade – RVP will be injured as he was not ready for this game either

but he needs to play gibbs as well just to show he has faith and anybody could have made a mistake and hes english coming through the ranks thats what we want

also i would play Nasri, Diaby and Fabregas in the middle

and put Song replacing djouru at CB

  413. Alex Ice Cream

    consols,

I never said that my post was miserable.

  414. You are tieing yourself in knots AIC to avoid saying that you don’t think RvP should be in the side. Go on. You always say what you think.

Say it. By the way, you didn’t answer my question.

  415. Maybe you should 🙂

  416. No, AIC, your answer clearly made the link between your post and my saying that one of the two posts, including yours, was miserable.

    Relax. you were right.

  417. …let me get this straight, AIC…you cannot see how RvP and AA can play in the same side….

…my question was…do you think that either RvP or AA agree with you?…or AW for that matter…?

  418. silver gunner

Well Frank there is one thing I will agree with you on and that is the fans leaving early, you may think me a disgrace as a supporter for not agreeing with the Bendtner images but heah that what blogs are for….. voicing your opinions…..

Moving on I hope we can hold on to our influential players and not have a summer like last and loose three of our “experienced players”

We must do everything to keep our best if we are realistically going to challenge for the sumit again, the loss of Hleb and Flamini has been all too aparent this season and though it has given the likes of Song and Theo to shine we have lost that level of consistency they brought to the team.

I am sure all will agree that at times Theo looks world class but because he is young he can’t sustain that level of performance, I think the little boy lost comments are harsh but he hasn’t been at his best in past few games.

So long as we keep this core of players together we will be up there next year but my fear is we sell some of best players.

  419. Watching Arsenal reserves – Fran Merida scored a fantastic goal with his wrong foot and Vito Mannone made 2 fantastic saves.

  420. Fuck this RVP And AA debate…..anyone with the slightest brain can tell that they’d play great together……..the thing we should be discussing is something I saw on the television….” I SAW 3, YES, 3, Chelsea players in barcelano’s half at the same time”……not kiddding……they’re showing the replays of the 3 players……..again and again……they’ve stopped showing the live game……..

  421. “…let me get this straight, AIC…you cannot see how RvP and AA can play in the same side….”

Didn’t you watch the second half of the game against Wigan? Ade, RVP, AA and Cesc were on the pitch and we turned the game around from 1 – 0 down and all of them combined really well.

  422. On another serious note….just cant wait to see both RVP and Arshavin on the same ground…..

  423. My bad……Ballack didn’t cross the halfway line…..just 2 players in their half…….apologies….

  424. Paulie Walnuts

A bit harsh on Bendtner I feel, Joe. I think he`ll stay & continually improve. Simpson won`t get his chance (IMO)

Almunia was excellent in both legs against Man U & I don`t fault him for the free kick goal either. As keepers go he`s as good as any in the EPL. I`m not sure about Fabianski but he`s still young.

I`m with you on a midfield player & centre back but not sure about a left winger. We don`t really play with wingers.

I wish I had a quid for every name that`s going to be put forward on here this summer – I`d make a fortune

  425. No Ateeb, they can’t play together. Aren’t you reading AIC’s posts? Keep up.

  426. I cant keep up….im waching chelsea…was mesmerized by the fact that they managed to get 3 players in the opponents half….took them 95 minutes of this semi-final…..

    Fu***ers scored though..Essien……

  427. Someone has stopped taking his medication – I think I got the diagnosis wrong. It’s actually manic depression rather than scizophrenia.

  428. Typical Chelsea goal.

  429. Kyle Bartley looks like a promising young defender. We’ve also got another promising but very raw 16 year old defender Ignasi Miquel, making his reserves debut tonight. However he can’t possibly make it as a centre back – he fails miserably on the ‘ugly’ aspect of the qualification for that position.

  430. A deflection, do they score any other way?

  431. That’s it then. Chelsea will shut up shop now!

  432. If this time next season we haven’t won a trophy or media acclaim, even Arshavin will be dismissed.

  433. yawn……

  434. gooner foreva

    shut your face!

    forgive me LORD!

  435. You are forgiven, my son.

  436. Thank You!

  437. Nope…it will be Arsene let Arshavin down….he should have brought quality players like Barry….

  438. Lord, you have all wisdom, wasnt that a very dumb post by gooner foreva?

  439. Verily, it was.

  440. Its sad that many bloggers here use AA’s success to beat other players with. Why cant we just celebrate the team as a whole or if the team underperforms, look at problems in a collective fashion?

  441. Yeah Passenal, the centre-back combination of Bartley and Ayling has been immense this year in the youth cup. With Nordtveit and Miquel too it looks good, but there’s still (frustratingly) a while to wait before they can be thrown in at the deep end.

Imagine in 5 years time an Arsenal line up like this:

    Eastmond – Bartley – Ayling – Gibbs
    —————- Frimpong —————-
    Walcott – Lansbury – Emmanuel-Thomas – Wilshere
    —————— Afobe ————–

All class players, the only one i’m still not sure about is Eastmond, but we always seem to be a bit short for options at right-back (and rich in options for left-back… why is that?!)

Also notice that every singly one of those players is English, wtf!

  442. Last night was sad, now watching Chelsea lead Barcelona 1-0 at halftime am wondering if there is any justice in this world at all…

Also sad the Henry could’nt make it to the squad today because Sergio Ramos kicked him to bits in the clasico.

  443. Blackstock,

That reserve team squad looks great and hopefully they will be superb in times to come. If one could suggest any changes (based on personal preference) at all, it would be Coquelin in holding midfield and Luke Freeman as striker.

  444. Thanks again!

  445. So, there is another G4E….or was he a doomer all the time!!!?

Only kidding G4E (the real one).

Alex, you should know by now that there is no justice or Rooney would be really ugly.

  446. …thanks for the link to that post, og…the piece and some of the comments were excellent…pity that tit NY Narcus had to muck it up at the end…

  447. Yeah, definitely Coquelin as well. The boy has legs as strong as the eiffel tower, it’s scary.

Benik Afobe is ridiculously prolific in front of goal. If he can keep it up, he’ll be a fantastic number 9.

  448. Bring on Pleb…….

  449. Come on, Barca!!!

Blackstock, you’d have to put Nordtveit in your line-up, surely.

  450. Drogba has been in immense diving form……brilliant….never gives up a chance to dive……

Barca have been a victim of over passing….no directness in them…..bring on Eboue…..

  451. Bendtner’s an excellent player. He can take his trousers down every night for all I care.

  452. WBA reserves 1 – 1 Arsenal reserves. WBA had mostly 1st team squad players, whilst we played our even younger guns. The boys did well.

  453. Brilliant….God surely must not like beautiful football……

That was disgraceful refereeing. Cheating c**** chelsea are.

  454. These refs are a joke!
yes we need some kind of replay in football, too many errors!

  455. Wasn’t that a dive by Drogba?

  456. How does he keep getting away with it?

  457. Abidal is sh*t anyway. They won’t miss him.

  458. Its not right that games of this magnitude or any game for that matter should be influenced greatly by errors like this.

  459. Analysing yesterdays game is getting boring.
    So many wise men,
    Including AIC.
For me it’s about Mu got a defense, who loves to defend.
We got a defense who loves to attack
And I would not like it different.

And my god the Norwegian ref is so wrong showing Abidal the red card.

  460. we will beat both Chelsea and Man U in the league like they didnt know what hit them. Mark my words. AA adds another dimension to the team. But it is naive to believe that the team are dead without him. Down but not out.

Swedish ref doing his best to hand the game to Chelsea. Come on Barca.

  461. What happened?

  462. Pz,

You got that right. And alves’s crossing has been totally crap as well.

That’s possibly going to lose chelsea the match, taking off Drogba.

  463. Barcelona need a fundamental re-think of their strategy. They need to sign experienced players. They have been outmuscled by chelsea. It is men against boys. They need a goalkeeper, a world class centre back and a striker. They simply cannot handle the pace and power of Drogba. Time to spend money Barcelona.

  464. Blackstock, you’d have to put Nordtveit in your line-up, surely.

Yeah, there’s just so much talent bursting out of the seams I don’t know how they’re all going to play.

Szczesnzy, Shea, Eastmond, Bartley, Ayling, Nordtveit, Miquel-Pons, Gibbs, Botelho, Evina, Coquelin, Frimpong, Aneke, Emmanuel-Thomas, Barazite, Watt, Wilshere, Ramsey, Lansbury, Henderson, Merida, Ozyakup, Vela, Afobe, Sunu, Murphy, Freeman… just to name a few

What’s crazy is that just below these lot, there’s another legion of kids coming through who look just as promising. Trying to keep watch on names like Josh Rees, Callum Webb, Ben Glasgow, George Brislen-Hall, Jordan Wynter, Samir Carruthers, Nico Yennaris, Jernade Meade, Nigel Neita, Samir Bihmoutine, Jeffrey Monakana, Zack Ansah… where does it all stop!?

  465. What are Barca without Titti??

  466. Anelka actually tripped himself! A most blatant piece of dishonesty. Abidal made absolutely no physical contact with him and there was a fair distance between the two players as well.

The refree has f*cked this up on a massive scale!

  467. Passenal,

Abidal unfairly got a red card. Drogbas header towards, who could have made through, but performed a brilliant dive. One of the best I suppose, in CL history. 17 minutes to go, 10 man Barca needs to score once. Drogba taken off. Barca has had NO shot on target so far.

  468. But don’t even think about Eboue. He belongs to us!

  469. where the fu*k do chelsea get all this god damn fukin luck from??? first Henry who knows how to score against them is out and then a dodgy sending off. and they played a team with no defence in their other semi.oh and they always score deflected goals. anti football c*nts

  470. Here’s to a last-minute equaliser.

  471. BRING ON HLEB FOR F**** SAKES. WHO THE HELL IS KEITA??!!

  472. Yeah, no way is Hleb going to come on and score a last-minute wonder goal from inside the center circle…

no way… or will he, dun dun dun…

  473. Evil…is really reigning in the CL this season……..

I for one wouldn’t be watching another final with those to fools…i fell asleep last year….i won’t be punishing myself again….!!!!

  474. Ateeb, so Drogba gets all 10’s for that dive?

  475. Muppet,

Are you nuts? Barca is without Marquez and Puyol. Their first choice defenders. And Henry, unluckily got injured. No one can cope with that. 2 of the back four? And their clinical striker? No one can cope with that. Not even the supposedly BEST team in Europe this season.

  476. Yaya Toure is immense!

  477. Ateeb, thats common sense, isnt it?

  478. Has anyone ever seen Drogba smile whilst playing? EVER?

    I can’t recall witnessing it.

  479. Blackstock,

Hleb won’t score, but he can make that pre-assist. lol. Barca lacks penetration in the final third.

  480. Imagine the two must debt ridden clubs in Europe meeting in chl final,
Anyone for a game of golf.

  481. “Hleb won’t score, but he can make that pre-assist. lol. Barca lacks penetration in the final third.”

Why does that sound so familiar…..

  482. He has yet to develop the muscles that help you smile. He’ll get there. He’s having tickling practise.

  483. It did happen, once, Blackstock, but it was so disgusting that he was banned from doing so ever again.

  484. Ha Ha Ateeb – fooled you.

  485. Come on Barca – we can’t let anti-football win the day.

  486. Barcelona need more British grit! Their willingness to attack is harming them. If they were playing with 10 men behind the ball, they’d be winning by now. You don’t win a game by trying to win a game. Duh, you need to pretend, and then get lucky through refereeing decisions and set pieces.

  487. “Ha Ha Ateeb – fooled you.”

    Muppet,

    Quite a disappointment…….finally Ateeb….gets you with the double bluff…hehe

  488. Yours was better Pz,

    Muppet…you really got me there….

…….WHY IS EUROPES BEST TEAM WITH EXPERIENCED PLAYERS NOT GOING THROUGH THE FINAL…

P.S They haven’t had a single shot at goal, so far.

  489. It’s old men against boys.
    Same old story

  490. If Barca don’t like playing against the Chelsea thugs, imagine what they’d think if they had to play against the likes of Stoke, Bolton and Blackburn every other week. Hey Barca, welcome to our world…

  491. yay!!!!!

  492. I’m sorry, but on this evidence, Barcelona deserve to be pillored much more than Arsenal. They didn’t get a single shot on goal.

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  493. FUCKING YES!!!!`

  494. Not got the game but the street just erupted!

  495. My god my god exist…….Enieeasta

  496. Oh god!!!!!!!!!1

  497. FUCKING YES HAHAHAHA……….One of the commentator just went silent…..

  498. Never heard anything like it.

  499. come on barca

  500. I take it all back !!!!!!!!!!!

  501. The goal hasn’t even happened yet on my stream and i’m already celebrating!!!!!`11

  502. YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  503. Expecting 6 more minutes of extra extra time…..

  504. Its been a sad two days for football…

Barca despite the sending off have been sh*t today and there is no excuse for not having even one shot on target. Imagine…Petr Cech who has been dodgy lately need’nt even have come on to the field today.

Iniesta is the Barcelona version of our Ice cream kid Hleb. He will never ever shoot.

  505. Come on, Barca!

  506. a man down, also!

  507. “where the fu*k do chelsea get all this god damn fukin luck from???”

It’s the luck of the devil – someone has been sacrificing something in a clearing in the woods!

  508. LOL……Who are the fools now Muppet?

We were just kidding around. Right?

  509. HAhahaha……Did you see that? DID YOU SEE FUCKING BALLACK? He almost hit the referee…..Hahahaha……

  510. Thank You God

  511. RED CARD!

  512. Excellent! Keep it going Barca – a dispirited chelsea will do nicely on Sunday!

  513. Alex,

“Iniesta is the Barcelona version of our Ice cream kid Hleb. He will never ever shoot.”

We know you were kidding around. Like Muppet and me……

  514. BARCA THROUGH TO THE FINAL!!!!!!!!!

  515. Absolute mayhem here!

  516. LMAO LMAO LMAO

    L

    M

    A

    O

    Ballack

That was hilarious, can’t wait to see it again

  517. Is that a red card for Ballack? Finally justice is served – he should have walked in the Nou Camp.

  518. Chelsea fans bawling and cryin!

  519. The referee got lots wrong but justice has prevailed overall. And Titi could get his shot at Big Ears.

  520. Shocking……..they really are thugs…..

  521. What are you watching Paul? What red card?

The referee needs BOUNCERS to protect him……..Chelsea players have gone nut……

  522. Drogba is causing trouble…what’s the betting an Arsenal player gets the red card?

  523. Wells thats for playin crap football in the 1st leg!

  524. Weep Chealski
    Weep Coleski
    Sleep well

  525. Fuck off Terry

If the referee had any balls he’d land a swift right hook right into the side of Terry’s face

  526. No, I thought it should have been.

    Sorry folks!

  527. lol Drogba booked after the final whistle

    this just gets even better

  528. Is it all over then? Thank you God! Chelsea’s tactics should never be allowed to prosper and I really do not want them to be the first London team to win the CL. Hopefully TH will be fit for the final. If we can’t win it, I want him to get a winners medal even if it means the bench warmer will get one too.

  529. I go with Man U gettin thrashed!

Yes let Henry get it, well deserved!

  530. What an incompetent referee!! I thought the referees in England were poor. The refs in the semi-finals are simply diabolical.

  531. With you Passenal, I wish TH14 gets it this time…if there is any one who deserves it, it’s TH14 for all the beautiful football he played with us, and now with Barca.

  532. Would it be better for man utd to get thrashed in the final, or to lose to a last minute goal?

  533. Feels like a win for football

If only we were so lucky… the gods of football do seem to have blessed Barca with something special. One day that will be us… one day…

  534. Hahaha…..Did you guys check out the fired up Drogba? Fucking priceless.

Well to be fair Chelsea, based upon the 2nd leg should have gone through. They had too many chances, but they were just too casual. Barca kept the ball better, and absolutely had just 1 shot at goal. Lacked penetration, and were outmuscled by Chelsea. But credit to Barca for not giving up.

  535. Can we have this referee on sunday ?

  536. I AM THE HAPPIEST I HAVE BEEN FOR DAYS!!! Iniesta rules and God…thank you.

  537. Ole G

I think our referee from yesterday was an AS Roma supporter who was pissed off at us for kicking them out. There is no other explanation to his performance.

  538. “Anguish for John Terry…” Such sweet words.

  539. This blog is trippin!

I posted in response to Pz and it posts before his?

  540. “Chelsea fans bawling and cryin!”

Now I wish I was watching. I’m not surprised the arrogant sh*ts on the chelsea team are behaving so badly. They really thought they had it wrapped up – they must be gutted.

So how long until the ‘chelsea in crisis’ headlines then? I won’t hold my breath!

  541. i was 90 secs from giving up football for life.

    hahah so sweet.

Drogba – cheating scum and he now behaves like that.

At least when we lose we show some class.

  542. Titi…deserves it…….so do Barca…United winning another final….i would really feel sick……

How about that Barca defence though???

  543. Chelsea crash out of the Champions League!

Chelsea’s experience project does not work. They need to stop spending big and save some money. They need like 6 players, especially a couple of short green eyed mediterranean types.

  544. Would it be better for man utd to get thrashed in the final, or to lose to a last minute goal?

Thrashed. Humiliated. 7-0 perhaps. Nothing less. TH14 hat-trick. Rooney red card. Crinaldo bursting into tears. More beautiful than a priceless painting.

  545. Ateeb,

Fantastic. Drobga was saying ‘f*cking twat’ or something like that to the camera. Beautiful.

  546. Pz,

Based on today’s evidence, I guess the last minute goal would be fucking brilliant. Hahahaha….can’t stop laughing at Ballack, terry, and Drogba. They could have beaten up the the referee today. He looked scared, poor bloke….

  547. Does this mean no trophy for Chelsea for 3 years ?

  548. Both Abidal and Alves out……

  549. Yeah Muppet, he completely lost his head. Can’t wait to see replays. Who said Chelsea are all grown up… Would Denilson do that? Would Song do that? Fabregas? Nasri? Those Chelsea boys are too spoiled, throwing their toys out the pram… haha

  550. Muppet,

    Liverpool 4 years…….

  551. These dudes on ESPN saying that Barca were lucky! this luck thing is over used.

Barca kept playin even with a man down and you could see that Chelsea thought they had it in the bag.

There was nothing lucky about that strike and wasnt Chelsea’s goal a lucky goal?

  552. Something should be done about those chelsea thugs. The referee will need a police escort to get him out of stamford bridge in one piece!

  553. Maria,

In that case, Benitez should go.

    Hiddink should go.

Chelsea need to sign experienced players.

Liverpool need to sign experienced players.

They should both drop their respective experiments.

  554. “Chelsea crash out of the Champions League!

Chelsea’s experience project does not work. They need to stop spending big and save some money. They need like 6 players, especially a couple of short green eyed mediterranean types.”

    lol

  555. Yes our players are pure class while these dudes think they are entitled!!

I cant wait for our team to dominate the business, it will bring some class to football.

Barca, please mash up Man U for all the Gunners!

  556. If i was a Shamski….i would be embarrssed….their reaction was beyond the pale…disgusting…..

  557. Now that is what you call sore losers – I look forward to seeing more of the same on Sunday!

  558. haha FG

  559. it was OG, not me.

  560. Matty it should sound like, IF we loose.

  561. Love it, one shot on target and it is the decisive one.Ineista ……..Magic. Didnt they dig in with 10 men. Guardiola does a Mourinho on the Stamford Bridge touchline.Poetic justice. Arsenal will be in the final after all. Well in a roundabout way anyway.

It is fitting that the 2 best teams in Europe at the moment go through. So much for experience. Chelsea disgraceful in defeat. Drogba is such a bad loser.Yes 500million spent in 5 seasons but still no closer. The sick look on John Terry and Ashley Coles face priceless.Lucky Gus not so lucky anymore. The two games What a beast Yaya Toure is.

  562. Maria,

That will be a problem….Abidal and Alves……but who f**** cares…..hahaha…Chelsea players “MEN” cried like babies…..

  563. Soooooooo true Ateeb…… soooooooo true…………..

  564. Chelski players should be caged and displayed in the London Zoo….animals….

  565. The limits of cynical football laid bare. Yet the media here, tomorrow, will write about how Chelsea were robbed, Barcelona were lucky, UEFA didn’t want an all-English final, etc.

    NO!

Chelsea were undone by a poor referee, yes, but more by their own stupid tactics.

I can’t think of anything more stupid than trying to squeeze by this great Barcelona team with a 1-0 aggregate win. It was always unlikely!

  566. And some of our players were let down because Nik had his pants down……..I think they should get a chopper into the chelsea ground, and get that ref out safely. Seriously, Drogba had blood written all over his face.

  567. Trousers, damn it!

  568. HAHAHAHAHAHA

  569. If UEFA have any and I mean ANY testicular fortitude there will be retrospective disciplinary action against Ballack and Drogba. While they are at it hope they charge Terry too.

Gooner4Life, was thinking the same thing! Guardiola’s run down the Chelsea touchline has brought the game a full circle. Could’nt have happened to a nicer team.

  570. That was bloody funny. The dirty shite deserved that.

  571. The greatest thing about tonight was greedy Cashley Cole in tears. The nastiest c**t ever/

  572. Blackstone

The Gods of football hasn’t blessed Barca. The difference is that never-do-well coaches like Arsene Wenger don’t survive at Barca.

Barca buys good players, the players that can win the title and trophies not crap players with so called potential.

That’s the only difference. Sack Arsene and all our problems will be solved.

Arsene is only interested in his players not the fans. He keeps on saying that he does not want to buy any player and kill his so called ‘exceptional talents’ , in effect he’s more interested in his players than the fans who pay their huge wages.

WE WON’T WIN ANYTHING UNLESS HE’S SACKED.

Bould can be our Guardiola. He’s done it for the youth team and he can do it for the first team.

  573. I’ll go to Wembley as an Everton fan. Hope Shellsey finish the season with nothing.

  574. F*UCK OFF HOWARD

  575. Hello Howard. Was waiting for you to pop up. Don’t know if G4E is around. But i’ll be honored to tell you to….

    FUCK OFF

  576. “Bould can be our Guardiola. He’s done it for the youth team and he can do it for the first team.”

    You couldn’t make it up.

  577. Come on, my friends. Save your hatred for man utd.

  578. And before you fuc* off…..what’s/who is Blackstone?

  579. Sorry howard, but you have completely lost the plot – do the wardens know you are out? You are the worst possible advert for care in the community you sick freak.

  580. Am so happy even Howard post sounds funny! Thanks for the laugh Howard.

  581. Pz,

No worries about that. Three weeks for that game. We’ll regenerate our hatred, the second we see Ronaldos face.

  582. Especially for Howard from Andrey Arshavin’s website:

“I think Denilson, who was playing in the central position destroyed their midfield, he made all the tackles, outplayed everyone trying to pass him.”

  583. It’s not hatred Pz – it’s complete and utter contempt!

  584. He must be talking about William Blackstone, a great jurist of the eighteenth century.

  585. Howard’s posts shold all be like this

  586. haha it’s like a chorus

all together now… FUCK OFF HOWARD!

  587. all together now…..FU CK OFF HOWARD…..Didn’t the beatles wrote a song on this….was it FUCK OFF HOWARD….can’t seem to remember……

    ALL Together now….FUCK OFF HOWARD…….

  588. Which match is that quote about, Passenal?

  589. But why would he talk about William Blackstone?

Howard are you going to respond or you’ve fucked off already?

  590. It was the portsmouth game PZ.

  591. About Portsmouth last week.

  592. The Portsmouth game at the weekend.

  593. Fuck off Howard.

  594. “Sorry howard, but you have completely lost the plot – do the wardens know you are out? You are the worst possible advert for care in the community you sick freak.”

    hahahahahaha….LMAO

  595. He was AA’s MOTM

  596. lol Ateeb

    # All together now !!

  597. Howard really is not well…..i can’t believe isn’t in tears like his English commardies…JT and Lampard…

  598. ALL OF YOU SURE IT WAS PORTS0MOUTH?

You can discuss it amongst yourself, before giving the final answer……

  599. A slight change in Howard’s greeting, but I feel it’s due…

“F*CK OF HOWARD YOU SICK FREAK”

  600. Anyway, back to Schadenfreude – it does indeed serve Chelski right for making no attempt whatsoever to play against Barca last week.

  601. I think Howard is Pyles Malmer in diguise. He writes the same sort of idiotic nonsense to prove it.

  602. Ateeb, it was definitely Portsmouth, I think!

  603. ALl together now…..FUck OFF HOWARD……All together now……FUck off Howard……All together now…..IT WAS PORTSMOUTH…..wait…..Fuck off Porsmouth…….wait….Fuck off Howard…..

  604. Thanks for 10:16 post Ateeb…I feel good that I have real mates who can pick up my slack

  605. I love a bit of Schadenfreude FG, especially where chelsea is concerned – Ha Ha!

  606. Alex Ice Cream

At least Henry (hopefully) in the final makes me feel slightly better. Not much but anything is better than the tedium of Chelsea v ManU.

    Come on Barca!

  607. It’s great to see Denilson getting some praise. I feel he’s been rather forgotten recently, although of course he was to blame for the result last night. I’ll give him my vote (if I have a vote) for player of the season. I’ve really enjoyed watching him play.

  608. If Barca win the CL will Cesc not leave and join his childhood hero and BFF Hleb….lose lose on the final i say……if only Cesc was English and Merson was his hero and Westham his club….damn you……….Arsene……

  609. This may not wipe the sadness of defeat yesterday, but Shamski going out this way feels damn goooood…

  610. It was my pleasure…G4E…..

  611. Won’t Puyol be back for the final? I thought he was just suspended for a match. What about Marquez?

  612. Hiddink is just too stubborn. Abramovich is delusional. 5 semi-finals not won the CL. He wants to prove he can win the CL spending sh1tloads of money! The Chelsea board should show some ambition. Some of the highest season ticket prices in England.

  613. Yep Puyol will be back….Marquez out for 10 weeks or so…

  614. Alex Ice Cream

    Ole,

The standard of refereeing is not good enough. That c*** yesterday was a joke and tonight’s was no better but he is a lovely man for not giving the blatant penalty v Pique.

Refs are either incompetent, biased, bent or a combination of the three.

Its not acceptable that matches of this magnitude are officiated so badly. Technology must be used.

  615. Good points about Puyol and Marquez PZ. Here I was thinking Barca would play with Guardiola in defence. They both should be back.

  616. ppppffffft……hehehehehehe….
    pffft….awww deah…hehehehehehehehehehehe..
    hehehehehehe…..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAH
    HAAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…urrrgghh.HAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAA….

    ..did……HAHAAAAA…you..see…HAAAAAAAA…
    Drogba…HAAAAAHAAAHAAA…at….hehehehe…
    the…HAAAAAAHAAAAAHAAAA…end…..
    HAAAAA….Arsenallllll….HAAAAAHAAAAHAAAAA

  617. Puyol will be back. But Marquez may be out.

So they’ll have pique and puyol in the centre of defense atleast. Sylvinhio to play…..who else do they have on the bench?

  618. Was Yaya playing @ CB tonight…..??

  619. oh howie

  620. Sorry Maria you are right. Forgot about Marquez’s injury. Puyol should be back. Silvinho at left back, Puyol and Pique at centre and probably Seidou Keita at right back.

  621. “Sylvinhio to play…..who else do they have on the bench?”

    Is he still playing…..

  622. I felt really bad yesterday however, after seeing Cashley Cunt cry I feel good and hopefully can get a good sleep today.

Still we need to get rid of AW before the team can progress once more. AW has completely lost the plot.

Nobody is coming in this summer; the only player coming is the other crap Senderos. We’ll still have our Denilsons, Eboues and the Diabys and will be fighting for 4th with the likes Villa, Spurs and Everton.

We won’t win anything and the same time next year we will repeat the saying ‘next year’.

  623. Yes Yaya Toure played at CB tonight. Did a decent enough job barring a few risky tussles with Drogba and Anelka. Good in the air and decent technically. Lacks pace though.

  624. Alex Ice Cream

Words from Cesc: I think he sums it up rather well. He clearly is not satisfied that we have won nothing again, unlike some of our supporters.

He said: “We have gone 21 consecutive games without being beaten [in the Premier League] and that shows from the beginning to the end we have improved a lot – but when you play in these sort of competitions you have to be at your best and we have not been at our best.

“Fourth spot for Arsenal, I do not think is good enough.

“We have not been at the level that everyone expected for Arsenal Football Club, that is for sure.”

  625. Alex Ice Cream

    I agree with Frank.

  626. Arsenal fan suicide after yesterday’s match-video

  627. Yeah…I guess so…he came on today in the final minutes as well…..

  628. Yaya Toure is class, pace or no pace, that dude would not let Drogba bully him off the ball!

  629. What the hell dezee…grow up…..but before that fuck off……nutcase….

  630. To be fair, both Pique and toure got bullied by Drogba…..won alot of headers. But that was it, missed an absolute sitter.

  631. AIC, no one is satisfied that we have not won, we are just patient and have faith that we will do it.

    You have none!

  632. “To be fair, both Pique and toure got bullied by Drogba…..won alot of headers.”

    Somewhere Senderos is laughing!!!

  633. dezee’s clip should be watched by Arsene Wenger to see the harm he’s causing to Arsenal fans around the world.

  634. …don’t confuse lack of ambition with supporting our players, AIC….if you asked Cesc what he thought of the squad he would agree with the supporters you are trying to discredit….not with you…he certainly would not agree with you that RvP and AA cannot play together….becuase he knows they can and will….

    ….Arsenal…..

  635. Still buzzin

Ballack and Drogba, they have to get the book thrown at them don’t they ?

(How does that compare to the Cesc thing v Hull ??!)

    Karma man !

  636. …that comment, Howard….means that should you and I meet one day…you die…

  637. The play I saw at the end Yaya would not give up and won the ball form Drogba, not really talking about headers. The guy looked to be match for any and all comers.

  638. Alex Ice Cream

Not true Paul N, not true. I thought we would win last night but the truth is that we were well beaten in our own stadium.

Unlike you I can accept that we were thoroughly beaten by a far better team but you can’t. Its rather unsporting of you but delusion is far easier that the acceptance than we were second best in every department.

I waited for years before we won the league or even won anything probably long before you had even heard of Arsenal. I have gone to many, many games over many years and spent lots of money supporting the team so don’t lecture me.

We have a way to improve before we will win the biggest prizes and writing no fear on an Arsenal blog will not achieve this. Some changes might..

Pretending that everything is perfect and that AW is infallible will not win trophies.

  639. what the hell?

where’s your dignity, your pride, your backbone, people?

hoping that barcelona will beat man utd as revenge for us? being so happy that barcelona ousted chelsea?

listen, i hate chelsea, liverpool and man u to the core.

but why are we sitting around, waiting for the knight in shining armour to come save all of us?

  640. Frank…it wont come to that….watching tat video, im sure howard must have picked up some ideas….if Denilson plays 20 games next season….well we’ll know what happened to Howard….

  641. “that comment, Howard….means that should you and I meet one day…you die…”

    Me too……..that’s a disgusting thing to say……….

I actually feel sick….condolences to his family and friends…….

  642. @AIC

“Cesc…clearly is not satisfied that we have won nothing again, unlike some of our supporters.”

Absolute utter rubbish. Again. How dare you assume that those of us who do not shout and scream and lash out and insult or abuse the manager or players are “satisfied” with not winning trophies. It’s called self-restraint. It’s called having perspective, or looking at the bigger picture. It’s about tamping down your own feelings for the greater good. Get this through your head – you’re not the only person who cares, you just think that being able to vent your feelings is the most important thing – well, it’s not. Giving the team support is the most important thing.

  643. and you people should stop arguing among yourselves.

    everyone just shut up.

if you were a footballer, the coach would have told you: shut up and play.

    thankfully, you aren’t.

  644. Alex Ice Cream

Its horrible but I was waiting for a comment like that.

No surprise that it came from Howard. I have always tolerated your views on this blog, no matter how misguided they have been.

I have never done this before but:

FUCK OFF AND DIE HOWARD YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER CUNT.

  645. …we are not though are we No 7….we are expressing a preference…and most have chosen Barcelona…what would you expect Arsenal supporters to choose…

…and we are not waiting for a knight in shining armour…we are waiting for our next game…

  646. …oh sorry, No 7… didn’t realise you are…well…simple…sorry….

  647. Alex Ice Cream

Its horrible but I was waiting for a comment like that.

No surprise that it came from Howard. I have always tolerated your views on this blog, no matter how misguided they have been.

I have never done this before but:

F*CK OFF AND DIE HOWARD YOU COMPLETE AND UTTER C2NT.

    (first one was moderated_

  648. that’s good to hear, Frank.

  649. AIC….you’r being a pri** again……a f**** twat…..

    Spot on FUngunner

  650. …I agree with FG…

  651. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

I agree. I hope to get to him before you though.

  652. AIC, no one would expect the players to be ‘satisfied’ with 4th place, but if that is where they finish, some of us supporters are mature enough to accept that under the present circumstances it could be worse and not use it as an excuse to abuse the players or to believe that they didn’t want to do better. They made a bad start to the PL campaign, which was further compounded by devastating injuries.

There are enough people pointing fingers and thinking they have all the answers. Those who are only happy when they are wallowing in misery are free to do so, but should look for company elsewhere because personally I prefer to focus on the reasons to be cheerful. That certainly doesn’t mean that I’m happy we lost the 2 semi-finals or didn’t do better in the league. But whinging about it will not change the fact that we are where we are. Unlike some fair weather supporters, my support is whole-hearted and not conditional upon whether they win or lose.

  653. …I agree with Passenal….

  654. about the suicide, it is tragic.

we may say he is stupid.

but do leave him alone, for he has already paid for it with his life.

and yes, football is really serious business.

  655. I am not gonna get into it with you again, especially seeing you failed to answer any of my earlier questions.

Yes we were second best in every department, doesnt take a genius to see that.

AIC, I have tried to defend you most times as I thought you were coming around but now I can see why people give the bad treatment.

You are up and down from side to side depending on how Arsenal play, win or lose.

I can bet you, If Arsenal beat Chelsea and Man U in the PL you will be saying we couldve beat them in the CL and FA and all that other bandwagon crap.

this is a scripture that relates to you “a double minded man is unstable in all his ways”

  656. Even better Passenal……couldn’t agree more…..

  657. Sack Wenger!!

Appoint Myles Palmer the manager. He knows everything, and the players will be scared of him since he’s so insane.

  658. No7

    F*** OFF….we can only deal with 1 idiot at a time……

  659. FunGunner @ 11.02 – you said it so much better than me!

The suicide is a sad waste of life and a reminder of why people need to keep things in perspective. Now he won’t be around to enjoy the good times when they come.

  660. Alex Ice Cream

    Ah Ateeb

I find amusing that the likes of you who has never even been to a game lecture others about what being a supporter is all about.

If you think that writing some poorly thought-out post on a blog trumps decades of support which means actually going to games then you are even less well-informed than you seem.

  661. See this is what i hate about skipping AIC posts……i don’t see what the point of praises him when he supports the team than reprimanding him when reverts back to his natural stance….

  662. No7,

    What is your point?

‘if you were a footballer, the coach would have told you: shut up and play.”

lol….included in the ‘…..priceless……” list. Brilliant. Say something else No.7…..

  663. Alex Ice Cream

What did I say today? That we were outclassed and need to improve to win the biggest prizes.

    No sh!t!

I said what I thought at the start of the season. I dared to dream of the CL and thought that we would do it but the reality is that we weren’t good enough for whatever reason.

It does not mean I have no patience or no faith. It means that reality is telling us we need to improve I don’t want AW out, I don’t want us to spend £100m on new players but we need to make some changes.

  664. Alex Ice Cream

    Fun,

Supporting the team you mean like I did yesterday by making considerable noise chanting and singing throughout the game.

I did stay till the end. I always do.

  665. AIC,

Football has moved on from being confined to certain geographical areas. It’s a Global sport now, I’m playing my part by paying a subscription to the cable operators to watch Arsenal play. If I had the luxury to watch Arsenal play week in week out, I would. I would even make it to the reserve games.

“blog trumps decades of support which means actually going to games then you are even less well-informed than you seem”

Well going to the games for decades has done you little good. You’re still a P****, whose counter arguments always go down to taking cheap shots at others. Just because you’re telling Howard to f*** off, doesn’t make you one of us. The real supporters, who’d support the team through thick and thin.

“I find amusing that the likes of you who has never even been to a game lecture others about what being a supporter is all about. ”

Its a shame that people like you end up going to games. Real shame. Ask yourself this. Who do you think Cesc would like to see come to support in the stadium…..You or me? Who’d start moaning the first chance he gets.

  666. Alex Ice Cream

    Maria,

Your posts are utterly irrelevant. Try writing about football.

Go on, google the word “football” and cut and paste. Its sh1te but it will certainly be an improvement on the drivel that you usually come up with.

  667. Maria, I never trusted his change of heart because he was always one defeat or victory away from changing sides. He lacks character and tries to run with the hares and the hounds. I think I’ll go back to scrolling past his posts, but I couldn’t let that last post go without comment.

  668. Alex Ice Cream

    Ateeb,

Get off you ar5e and go to a game.

You are just a plastic. You don’t even qualify to be one of the “sh1t supporters” who left after the second goal yesterday.

One of you? No, I am no plastic.

  669. “Go on, google the word “football” and cut and paste. Its sh1te but it will certainly be an improvement on the drivel that you usually come up with.”

    I would actually to that….if you agreed to google….SUPPORTER….you little two-faced weasel…..

  670. You’re not a real supporter AIC, you’re as blind as the rest. Worse, because you’re a hypocrite. Always switching sides, if one of the kelseys, MH pop in right now, you’d fuck** suck up on them. You take a careful perspective here, because you’re sh** scared. You’re the last of the regular f***** who used to post here. But you’re a lonely man, you wouldn’t fit into the LG crowd. So you walk a cautious line here, so that people respond to you. And you can engage in some discussion, tryna keep a balance. Time and time again you’ve been proven wrong. I really don’t even pay attention to your idiotic posts anymore. AA and RVP can’t play together? You’ve surely picked up some pointers going to the stadium. And don’t forget, half the LG posters also go to the stadium. You getting me bi***?

  671. Alex Ice Cream

    Passenal,

So you are not affected by anything that happens on the pitch?

    Its called delusion.

I’ve said that semis was more than I expected just that we are not yet good enough. Its called reality.

Where have I beaten up on the team today? Its no shame to lose to the current CL holders.

You lot have an image of me and will stick to it no matter what I post.

  672. Alex Ice Cream

    Ateeb,

When you go to games for decades then you have the right to speak to me on an equal level.

Until then you are just a plastic, wannabe supporter who should know his rather lowly place.

I may be right, I may be wrong but you will always be a plastic.

  673. Alex Ice Cream

I didn’t say RvP and AA couldn’t play together.

    Read the posts.

    Plastic.

  674. AIC,

seems like you are not welcome here. why do you stay here? why don’t you go somewhere else?

    it’s better off that way.

you have your right to speak, and others have their right to listen.

since no one would listen, what’s the point?

everyone will be happier, you included.

you are staying because you are convinced you can convince them, don’t you?

    but for what?

everyone loves the team here in his/her own way…so just leave it be…everyone has the right to do that…

  675. AIC,
“So you are not affected by anything that happens on the pitch?

Where have I beaten up on the team today? Its no shame to lose to the current CL holders.”

See. You’re a coward, thats what you are. Shit scared of everyone here. Back tracking now.

    Lemme paste what you said.

“Cesc…clearly is not satisfied that we have won nothing again, unlike some of our supporters.”

Don’t play innocent now. You f**** twat. LoL….Don’t change the topic…..come on……have some self respect and dignity…..

  676. If Chelsea had won, the hacks would have said that shrewd Hiddink outthought idealistic Guardiola when the evidence couldn’t be stronger to the contrary.

  677. Alex Ice Cream

    Maria,

    Very good.

I am waiting for your first football-based post.

No doubt you are also a plastic who has never been to a game.

Is that why you and Plasteeb get on so well?

  678. Alex Ice Cream

I echoed the thoughts of our captain.

We are not where we want to be.

    Truth?

    Where am I back tracking?

  679. You’re acting like a child now. LoL. Really mature posts. I give up. I hope you’re not crying right now. Hope your mommy tucked away all those ropes. We don’t want you hurting yourself now.

  680. Alex Ice Cream

    Plasteeb,

Scared of you? You are a funny man for a plastic.

Instead of spouting limitless sh1te why don’t you spend the time working out how you can get to a game?

  681. Ole Gunner,

unfortunately, the hacks might not be that far off, if they had written that.

let’s face it, hiddink is a good tactician. don’t take the credit away from him just because he is coach of russia and chelsea, just because he is a good friend of abramovic.

give credit when it is due.

of course, barca’s win is a victory for football as well.

but if chelsea had gone through, you can’t say they don’t deserve it because they were playing anti-football. that is their interpretation of football, even if we may not agree with it.

having said all that, i must still say, i am glad it is barca in the final.

though it would have been nice if we were there as well..

  682. “You’re acting like a child now. LoL. Really mature posts. I give up. I hope you’re not crying right now. Hope your mommy tucked away all those ropes. We don’t want you hurting yourself now.”

    HEHEHEHE……….

Unless you don’t read my posts…your just embarrassing yourself Alice….

  683. Alex Ice Cream

    Plasteeb,

A part of my first post, just to prove that there is no back tracking. Go on go through them..

  684. Alex Ice Cream

Mum jokes, and I am called immature.

  685. You took a sting at us….AIC…….”Cesc…clearly is not satisfied that we have won nothing again, unlike some of our supporters”.

lol. Give it up AIC. It’s ok to let it go, stop trying to fight everything. We’ll win next season don’t worry. Wipe away those tears. Come on. Yoy say we were beaten comprehensively, but you’re not man enough to swallow the loss. ALEX IS CHILDISH…….Now….that sounds better….suits you too…..

  686. No. 7,

    That’s your preconception.

I think it was stupid to try to qualify by playing extremely defensively to prevent Barcelona from scoring.

I think that was a daft tactic. Ultimately they suffered from the fact that they didn’t get an away goal. They didn’t even try to get an away goal.

If you ask me Hiddink did worse than Wenger in the semi-finals. Wenger went for it. His players, the opposition, and the rub of the green went against him.

Hiddink went for a half-baked cynical strategy that failed, and was never likely to work.

  687. Ateeb,

stop being obnoxious and let AIC be. Really.

  688. By Alice as Ateeb knows….i was referring to you…

  689. OG,

    What?

  690. @AIC

You explicitly said that some supporters lacked ambition for the club – when it was YOU who was demanding that we give up on the league and CL and concentrate on the FA Cup!

    *****
    “Fun,

Supporting the team you mean like I did yesterday by making considerable noise chanting and singing throughout the game.

I did stay till the end. I always do.”

This is isn’t about whether you love Arsenal. We know you love Arsenal. It’s about support. You went yesterday to a glamorous game which could have been historic if things had turned out differently. Earlier in the season, when they were struggling, shorn of confidence, you made a point of NOT going to games. You say you were disappointed by our failure in the semis, but a few months ago you were adamant that the squad was stuffed with players who were not good enough – and would never be good enough – to compete. Another example – after we lost to Hull, you were on this blog receiving congratulations on your prescience in knowing that the team were no-hopers and thinking up unpleasant nicknames for the players. When we finally hit consistent form, you decided to jump onto on the bandwagon. And now that it is clear there will be no trophies this season, you’ve jumped back off again.

  691. FG,

That all but sums him up….excellent post!!!

  692. Shhh Maria……..keep it low….Alex the child sleeps now….u dont want to wake him up…and deny everything he ever said.

  693. AIC, I apologize for the double minded… comment as I should never use scriptures like that.

    Peace out!!

Folks lets not fight but get ready to kick Chelsea’s butt!!!

  694. “Just wanted to cheer you up guys…..

A little bit of Arsharvin in our lives

A little bit of Walcott down the sides

A little bit of Toure is what we need

A little bit of Eboue with his speed

A little bit of Fabregas his pure class

A little bit Clichy he’ll kick yo ass”

Hey Maria, I forgot to tell you I liked this very much from this morning…. 🙂

  695. Yes Fun, you have covered all the bases with that comment!!

    Its sad though!

  696. Your welcome G4E,

    Paul,

Don’t beat yourself over it….fighting only occurs on this site because we won’t allow people to nick pick when and how they choose to support our team…..

    …………….WE ARE THE ARSENAL………….

  697. Let’s stop fighting amornst ourselves and concentrate on the important stuff: Howard is either a huge, huge, HUGE idiot, or a troll. Seriously. That suicide comment eliminates all other options.

  698. Well, that, but without the typos.

  699. BarneyStinson

    *Dialing Leg Warehouse*

Hello Leg Warehouse? My friend AIC needs something to stand on…oh nothing for him to stand on? alrighty bye bye!

  700. OG,

you have to admit, they almost pulled it off, didn’t they?

that was their game plan, 0-0 at nou camp, and catch barca on the counter at stamford bridge. that they got the goal so early was a bonus, but you can’t say they got the counter-attack tactic right, because alves is too far forward. he was always struggling in his defensive duties, that’s why he got the card.

listen, i am not trying to defend chelsea. i am just saying different people play football differently.

  701. LMAO Blackstock….that’s freaking funny.

  702. Shamski play shameful football, and had a shameful plan.

  703. Here here G4E. Shame is the word. Deep joy that they went out and feel it was unjust.

  704. BentleyThe FlyingSpur

    I love AIC !!!! A true flying spur !!!!!

  705. Arsenal fans are suffering all over the world for not winning anything for years now. One man’s folly to import low quality players and stick to them even after it becomes evident that they’re not good.

Two years ago he said he needed a defender because of long ball through the middle but he did nothing to correct it. He maintains players who continue to fail.

He’s tactically poor and is more interested in fielding his favourites in games than helping Arsenal win.

Its hurting to Arsenal fans. The Kenyan fan who died is all because of Wenger’s policy of buying unskilled, poor quality players. He’s a loser. Without Graham’s players he couldn’t have won the three titles he always boast about. Graham won two titles and a league cup within a short span of time at the Arsenal. AW has been there for 13 years and there is nothing much in the trophy cabinet.

This manager should be sacked before we end up poorly once more in 2009/10 season. AW has lost it and must leave now.

Arsenal fans have began dying in far away Kenya.

  706. Holy sh*t Howard.

    Just…wow. That’s pretty extreme stuff!

  707. I agree with G4E and Steww.

  708. Arghhh! You wrote that stuff last night as well!

  709. FUCK OFF HOWARD

  710. Happy Gooner

Stop fighting in house children, its silly and if you carry on you’re all grounded.

This may sound like a whinge but I feel Adebeyor may have overstepped the mark. Why do players think they have a right to speak for the club?

  711. The problem is Arsene Wenger and he must leave now before somebody breaks his neck. He’s killing Arsenal fans in Kenya.

He brings in average players and claims their the best ever played football. 80% of our players can’t even get a seat on the bench at Barcelona, Manu, Pool, Chelsea and other CL clubs.

He spends the club’s money on average players.

AW SHOULD LEAVE IN HIS OWN INTEREST BEFORE HE KILLS MORE ARSENAL FANS WITH HIS BAD RECRUITMENT POLICY AND TACTICAL POVERTY.

    LEAVE, FRENCHMAN LEAVE.

  712. Passenal was right, Howard, you are a sick freak.

  713. I don’t care what affliction Howard has. He is of course mad, which we generally accept in Africa, but the racism is real, and I suspect he really is BNP using football to spread extreme right wing propaganda. That is not a joke. His continual posts and the content point to a campaign. I now wonder whether he spends all day posting on all the websites along similar lines. He doesn’t engage in debate but simply posts, continually.

It is a Wenger hate campaign, with disguised but clear right wing and racist signals, and in one sense quite clever. I advise people to be careful.

  714. You can’t expect anyone to take that seriously.

And you know people find what you’ve written very offensive but you’ve repeated it twice now.

Where’s Uncle Moderation when we need him?

  715. Happy Gooner

Howard you must be on a wind up.

    ‘Leave, Frenchman Leave’

You’re laughing as you write that

  716. No, Howard is neither sick nor a freak, but a rather clever and dangerous individual spreading right wing propaganda disguised as football talk.

  717. Happy Gooner

I think maybe Adebeyor wants to leave, I never believed untill his quotes this morning. Why else would he bother alienating himself. Another bench warmer for Milan

  718. ZP I think you are correct. YW please moderate this person, he is a cancer.

  719. Howard if you’re going to be a wind-up merchant, you’d do better to make it less so bleedin obvious.

  720. Happy Gooner

I dont think he means it horribly, he just says it because he knows it’ll wind you up

  721. Howard’s ‘agenda’ is political, it is about racism – BNP stuff – and it starts with the Wenger ‘hate campaign’ as a rallying point dressed up as “we are British” and Arsenal is a proud English team over-run by foreigners. It is a campaign.

  722. You can f*ck off as well, Happy Gooner.

  723. Frank's biggest fan

No, Howard is neither sick nor a freak, but a rather clever and dangerous individual spreading right wing propaganda disguised as football talk.

    ———-

He might be a sp*d who indulges in silly wind-ups.

  724. Continue to have faith Arsene Wenger until he kills you. He’ll buy no good player next season. Still the Gallases, Eboues, Diabys, Denilsons, Rosicky and RvP (in hospital) and we’ll struggle with Everton, Villa and Man City for fourth.

We’ll be here and talk about next year again.

He’s the problem, he must just leave. Kroenke should sack him. Enough is enough.

  725. Happy Gooner

Poliziano, That was a bit harsh, do I know you?

  726. I agree.

As much as i’m convinced Howard is just some elaborate joke by a Sp*ds fan with too much time on his hands, there are plenty of real people out there just like him if not worse.

  727. No, Howard is not on a wind up at all. His posts are continuous and consistent, he does not engage in debate, he simply posts. On all the sites? I wouldn’t know, but it is thought out – and with a clear and consistent propaganda message -Arsenal loses because it is “not English”, other teams win because they are “British”. It is endlessly repeated, ie propaganda.

  728. (sorry, “i agree” was in response to Zim)

  729. No, it wasn’t harsh. Some subjects should be exempt from these disgusting games.

  730. I don’t know what his agenda is, because when he thought Wenger could win us a trophy he posted a couple of times sounding like an Arsenal supporter. But the minute things don’t work out he’s back on the nationalist bandwagon. I think he should just be ignored now because no one is buying his bullsh*t.

  731. A very elaborate wind up though. He’s been on here for two years hasn’t he? I remember reading long discussions about David Dein back in 2007. I’m sure he was involved back then.

  732. Happy Gooner

Poliziano, explain yourself you make no sense

  733. Howard, on the other hand you should get off this board before someone kicks your sorry BNP ass.

See Howard, most of the bloggers on here are sensible and dont need to get an opinion from you. Persist with your comments all you want. Nobody gives a gnat’s d*ck what you spout whether you are serious (which would make you a sick freak) or are taking the piss (which would mean your sense of humour sucks).

  734. Howard may not even be an individual. I advise caution. This is a campaign. He drafts his posts before sending, they seldom if ever respond or engage in a string of debate. The posts are cleverly pitched to appear as ‘staunch Arsenal supporter with axe to grind’

  735. Alex!

5 star comment!! That’s the bottomline.

Not one person here takes Howard’s comments seriously or sees any value in them.

Just so you know though, Howie boy….Fuck you!

Not so sure, he strikes me as someone with very limited intelligence. Either he doesn’t engage in debate because he doesn’t have the intellectual capacity to do so, or because it will make him vulnerable to being exposed as an act. His writing sounds forced, contrived and i’m not convinced it’s even honest.

  737. Happy Gooner

He’s just being silly to pass time at work.

    ‘Leave Frenchman Leave’

Thats not racist its just silly, everytime you answer him angrily you’re playing into his hands

  738. A very elaborate wind up though. He’s been on here for two years hasn’t he? I remember reading long discussions about David Dein back in 2007. I’m sure he was involved back then.

I wouldn’t call that “elaborate” at all, just a bit sad.

  739. Or because someone else is drafting and he is just sending. The posts are not ‘intelligent’, but well crafted, propaganda. It is a Wenger hate camapign, and in my view, the ‘thin end’ of another right wing anti-foreinger message

  740. Happy Gooner

    ‘Leave Drogba Leave’

He should be banned for swearing at the cameras last night. Considering he’s the biggest cheat in football he had no right to moan about anything, unbeleivable behaviour

  741. I don’t care what you people say about me but I know I’m a better Arsenal fan perhaps than all of you. Unlike you people I don’t follow blindly, ‘hail Arsene Wenger’

AW has been bringing the club down for some years now while our rivals retool and win laurels. Alex Ferguson saw the danger Chelsea posed when Abramovich came along.

Sir Alex just strategised to compete while AW dreamed. Now the result is here for all to see. He spins for you to swallow and you people believe whatever he says.

The season has ended and AW will start spinning about his average players capabilities, the season will end once again poorly.

While our rivals buy quality he buys craps.

He’s driving the team down and by the time you realise, it will be too late.

Cesc, Ade and Toure have all admitted that we need quality reinforcements but he won’t because for him Arsenal is only a laboratory for his new age football experiments.

  742. snore…

  743. Chelsea showed real class yesterday. That is what’s different between us and them. Boys and Men. Our players are just too nice, they don’t speak up to the referee, or show any sort of frustration. They just get on with it, raising questions about their commitment to the club for trophies. Chelsea on the other hand, shows desire to win. You think Drogba is crazy? No, he was showing desire to win. And you got to admire that. The hunger and anger in Ballack’s eyes, was something to behold. Why can’t we have any players like that, that would show this sort of hunger to win? And you think what you saw on the T.V was it all? No, Drogba continued to chase the referee into the tunnel. It’s rumoured that Ballack even pushed the referee, away from public eyes. The referee had to escape to the pitch to save himself. Now that is what I call MEN. MEN willing to fight for their win, even off the pitch.

  744. I don’t care what you people say about me but I know I’m a better Arsenal fan perhaps than all of you.

    Frank,

    I’ll save you the bother:

    Howard,

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear

    YW

  745. Wenger brought Arsenal up and has kept us at the top. What a fantastic manager. What a fantastic human being.

  746. …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger………..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……

What’s happening to me? Someone stop me….why can’t I see what Howard is suggesting……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……
    …..Hail Arsene Wenger……

  747. Howard, you are a better, more loyal and infinitely more loyal fan than us. Can you explain how Arsene Wenger won the premier league unbeaten in 2004-2005 after Claudio Ranieri had invested more than 120 million quid of that Russian thug’s money on the Chelsea team?

  748. Howard responded!

Well, that solves that then. He is just a mad person.
AW SHOULD LEAVE IN HIS OWN INTEREST BEFORE HE KILLS MORE ARSENAL FANS
    LEAVE FRENCHMAN LEAVE

    Phew!

  749. AKBs ( Arsene Knows Brigade)

AW said ‘Judge me in May’

    AKBs, what is your judgement?

    1. The players will improve next season
    2. They are young
    3. We have quality so we won’t buy anyone
    4. We don’t want to kill our young players

What about Arsenal fans dying in Kenya? Don’t care?

  750. To be fair to Howard, he’s actually saner and less-stupid than Myles Palmer. And Howard doesn’t even try to make money parasiting off the insecurities of Arsenal fans. Howard is only Public Enemy #2. A poor man’s Myles Palmer.

  751. I change my opinion.
Howard is alone – evil and stupid, and a bit mad.
Yes, we also have such people.

  752. Stupid AKBs who don’t see the gradual destruction of the Arsenal.

AKBs swallow anything by AW even at the expense of the club. The club is more important to me than AW. AW is not Arsenal and is no bigger than the club, nobody is.

I know a lot of you will stop supporting Arsenal when AW leaves. Its just pathetic.

  753. I don’t mind Howard so much – he’s blatant, we can all see what species he is. It’s the AIC’s of this world bother me. It’s like the difference between Thatcher and say Boris Johnson. One is out and out evil in tooth and claw the other pretends to be OK and normal with just maybe a few differences of opinion, but they’re both stinking Tories.
Howard doesn’t pretend to be sane and misunderstood and picked on he just comes straight out with his crap.

  754. Howard am I right in thinking that you believe the solution to winning trophies is “sack Arsene Wenger”.

Do you really think that would work?

    Who would replace him?

  755. …let Howard post away…it is very useful….I certainly look forward to meeting him one day…

…you have obviously been knocking around a bit, who would you have as manager, Howard? …..

  756. …snap, QoS…

  757. Yes, I agree Steww, I had misjudged it.
I worried that Howard was something other than what he purports to be – delusional, angry, alone. But he is in reality harmless (thrashing around in the dark).

  758. Howard, never mind that you did’nt answer my previous question. We know you cant back up your musings with any logic whatsoever.

Btw, its great to know you have been reading Le Grove and have picked up the AKB terminology. Yes I am an AKB. So what? I will back whoever the manager of my beloved club is and if that person is as erudite, ethical and charming as Arsene Wenger, he will have my loyalty forever. Loving and respecting Arsene Wenger does’nt have any bearing on a supporter’s loyalty to Arsenal. They are not mutually exclusive you twunt!

  759. Any manager apart from Arsene Wenger will buy quality and stop importing cheap ‘foreign goods’ in the name of ‘exceptional item’ How I wish the foreign office will stop issuing visas to such crap ‘imports’ by AW.

AKBs will see clearly when we go 5 years without trophy next season. Your ‘God’ AW will make sure we don’t get a trophy in 2009/10 season.

Follow him blindly. He did well when he first came but he’s now a failure.

  760. I read someone yesterday suggesting we replace Wenger with Van Basten, who has failed to secure a CL place with Ajax. People should really be careful what they wish for, you never know what you’ve got until it’s gone…

  761. I would expect you to have sympathy with failures.

  762. Frank,

Didn’t howard used to post relatively saner posts a couple of seasons ago? The fact that we didn’t trophies for the last 2 years, has really affected him. His ability to think coherently has gradually deterioated.

    I agree with Steww.

  763. Yes, Frank I see the uses.
I would equally like to meet Howard, short but invigorating, not unlike passing the time of day with a skunk.

  764. Alex Ice Cream

    Who would replace AW, Howard?

Surely you have a long list of replacements.

How about Shearer or Keegan. David O’leary? Mourinho? Sven, Mcclaren are looking for new jobs.

Its a big statement that you have made, now back it up. If you can that is.

  765. …come on, Howard….you can see that if you make strong comments as you have, you should back it up with some constructive ideas…come on..managers to replace AW…who do you fancy..?

  766. Pyles sounds so much like Howard its eiry!

    http://www.arsenalnewsreview.co.uk/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=1265&cntnt01origid=30&cntnt01returnid=42

Agree with Ole Gunner. Howard is a poor man’s Pyles.

  767. “Its a big statement that you have made, now back it up. If you can that is.”

    lol…..

  768. “Judge me in May”:

    Positives

Two semi-finals and CL League Qualification
The additions of Nasri and Arshavin
Some exceptional CC performances from our youngsters.
The faith shown in (and rewarded) Song and Denilson.
Goals shared around the forwards more (less dependant on Ade).

    Negatives.

A lack of incision in some of our play at times.
I might be in the minority but i don’t think the quality of our football has been as majestic as it was in the 07/08 season.
Unable to win the “big games”.
Lack of squad depth not adressed at start of season.
“Balance” we’ve had some great defensive performances and some great attacking performances but rarely at the same time!

Some of it highly debatable I guess and pretty much off the top of my head rather than hugely considered – but i’d probably go with B-. I don’t think we over-acheived, but have steadily progressed through the course of the season.

  769. QoS

Quite a balanced report card you got there. Somewhat agree.

  770. I see AIC is back on his populist soapbox this morning. Ateeb summed him up very well last night. As for Howard, he is clearly a racist but is probably an Arsenal ‘supporter’. A deranged one certainly.

The fact that he is, or claims to be an academic, is more worrying than his piss poor posts on here which have no effect whatsoever, apart from giving G4E a useful pastime.

Van Basten was so good at Ajax that they are talking about replacing him with Mclaren.

  771. The major positive Queen must surely be turning the season around, character really, laying the foundation for the unbeaten run (which I still regard as more important than anything else, I suppose I am in a minority there) in a period of stress – Cesc, Ade, Theo, Eduardo etc all out.

That period ‘produced’ the goods in Denilson, Song, Eboue and others.

Later, in not dissimilar circumstances Gibbs emerged when the defence disappeared.

  772. Alex Ice Cream

    consols,

    Yawn.

Do you have anything interesting to say about football?

Have you ever had anything interesting to say about football?

  773. The world feels so much better this morning……

I must check with Pyles who is fit to clean Drogba’s boots this morning (clearly not Drogba himself as he is injured – or appeared to be for a couple of minutes…..)

  774. …well AW has gone for a developmental approach….steady improvement from a core of young players….I think we can see signs that next season will be a big improvement on this…which basically means improving on 3/4 in Prem…top 4 in Europe….top 4 in FA Cup…backed up by good performances from the players coming through in the Carling Cup and the occasional toungster in a higher level game…all of this after the devastating loss of two key players in the close season…

….PLUS the purchase of a top class player in Arshavin….

….AND a full pre-season to return to fitnes and train together….

….PLUS the potential to purchase one or two replacements if necessary…

…bring on 2009/10…with a more experienced squad…keep the developmental approach going to fruition is what I say…looking very exciting indeed….

  775. The problem is, that as I have only supported Arsenal since I was old enough to walk, that I am afraid to match my football knowledge with one as wise as you AIC.

However, as you know, I am an AKB, so am content to let Arsene do all my tactical thinking for me. Therefore, I am more than happy for you to give him a call for a debate on football, on the understanding that my views are very likely to agree with his.

Let me know who wins the debate.

  776. ZimPaul “turn around” suggests that the direction we were heading in needed a 360…

I prefer steady improvement. Other than vs Man City we were never especially bad, we were just not performing overly well.

And got better. For sure, that took character and hard work. Plus Wenger gets the credit for addressing the “creativity” issue. Good management at that point I think. And not the mark of a stubborn dictator as some would have us believe.

The best news is that there is still improvement to come.

I’ll make a prediction, we’ll win the league next season.

  777. …I should add that it looks as though some of the worst supporters we have will not be renewing their season tickets…which has to be good for the in-stadium support….

…..AND…we get several months to push for a new Atmosphere Coordinator….or maybe even set up an Atmosphere Coordination department….actually good idea…we could make it quite a big department and ask them to work on matchdays by sitting in empty season ticket holder seats…and singing non-stop for 90 minutes (plus extra time)…

  778. …I agree with QoS….not only that I believe we will win it by quite a margin…

  779. Well, Queen, agreed. Let’s say we ‘dug deep’ after Cesc was injured in December in a period when the outlook was difficult. Character.

  780. The thing that’s annoyed me about the reaction from some quarters since Tuesday night was the sheer lack of perspective.

We flew out of the blocks, looked superb and then conceeded thanks to a slip and a flukey free kick won by a blatant dive.

At that point there isn’t a team in the world that would recover and score 4 goals.

Key moments change games. And in the key moment, we were f*cked by the fickle finger of fate.

Sure after that we didn’t get going – but put the entire Barca, United, AC Milan or Chelsea side in Arsenal shirts 12 minutes into that match and it would unfold in exactly the same way.

Tuesday told us nothing about this side and nothing about Arsene Wenger.

  781. I think it showed us that he is a deeply dissapointed man Queenie. A man such as he will be even more determined to win next season.

  782. Howard, you are pulling my legs if you think that arsenal should take responsibility for a fan dying in Kenya… yes a fan not fans!

That was sheer stupidity… so what were Liverpool and Chelsea fans now to do having also lost out on the CL this season… for that matter, what should fans have done at he end of the 2005 finals?
