Black Eyes Here We Come

Blackburn this evening and the for the ‘Colts’ side to turn out en masse, I suspect, given the proximity of Sunday’s clash. There are a smattering of first teamers in the squad but it seems unlikely that any who started would be recovered. Except of course, for the Six Million Dollar Man, William Gallas, who has been named in the squad in this mornings Guardian.

If he plays, it is a tough call for him. Sunday was not a routine Premier League fixture, it was a gruelling affair for those on the pitch for the full ninety minutes which would make his inclusion understandable but a risky venture nonetheless with the number of games coming up in the next three weeks which is why I think the report is a red herring.

Sky Sports News also reports this morning that Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott are set to start this evening. The latter is no surprise, if fit, whilst the former to me would be better suited to a substitute appearance although his inclusion makes the 4-5-1 formation that will be employed a little more workable.

Mark Hughes has been complaining in the Press – a sure sign he will be Ferguson’s replacement when the Scot eventually retires – about how others, i.e. Arsene, try to influence officials ahead of matches against his thugs, sorry, charges.

There always seems to be a tone leading into games against Arsenal, where people tend to highlight our misdemeanours and how we approach the game…Certainly in the past, some clubs have put comments out leading into games against us in an effort to influence the referees. It’s a touch of the dark arts, I suppose. But Arsenal’s players have been banging the drum about how they can cope with the physical side of the game this year, so they know that it is part and parcel of the game

Right. So criminal assaults such as the one Andy Todd perpetuated in Cardiff, are ‘part and parcel of the game’. This morning’s brain teaser is to re-arrange the word ‘part’ to find my opinion of Hughes.

It is without doubt a tough tie. However, it will be a good learning experience for the youngsters who have gained experience in such ties over the past two seasons. I would suggest that the team for tonight will be something like,

Fabianksi; J Hoyte, Senderos, Song, Traoré; Walcott, Diarra, Gilberto, Diaby; van Persie, Bendtner

With a bench of

Mannone, G Hoyte, Denilson, Eduardo, Bazarite

Possible changes to that might be the inclusion of Gilberto at centre half or the relegation of Diarra to the bench, Denilson moving into the centre. Diarra is certainly not flavour of the month. If translations of his comments to L’Equipe at the weekend are correct, it seems his elevation to the French National Team is swaying his thinking. Having joined the club two weeks into the season and not being used to the style of play, the logical thought process would be to believe that it might take six months not six days to earn a place in starting line-up. He had a chance to make it difficult for Arsene to drop him in Flamini’s absence but did not make a strong enough case in a weakened team. He should learn from that; instead the toys came out of the pram at a rapid rate of knots and he has earned himself some deserved derision. Whether he stays or not is for Arsene to decide but comparing his behaviour with that of Eduardo, is like that of chalk and cheese. One is professional and one is not. The Croat understands Arsene’s thinking and whilst he may not agree with it, he is prepared to work to change his mind.

Diarra would be better served by following the example of Flamini. Despite seeming to be on his way out of the club, he has fought back to earn and keep a place in the side. Reports in The Times <http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/arsenal/article3063268.ece> suggest he has been offered a £40k per week deal but understandably he is taking his time on agreeing to it,

I have been talking a bit with the club. I am happy here, but I am a free agent in January. We have so many games in December, so it is very difficult to be concentrated on this kind of thing as we are playing every three days.I am just focused on every game and for the contract, we will see a bit later

Which is fair enough, given that the club were prepared to let him go in the Summer. At that time, you would have struggled to find anyone who believed Flamini would be as important to the team as he clearly is now.

Enjoy the game wherever you watch it. ’til Tomorrow.

1. Flint McCullough

Thanks for another interesting article YW.

Your team is a possibility but I would be surprised if RVP was exposed, despite needing match time. I would have thought Denilson would be a certain starter, with maybe Gilberto at CB.

Thanks to you for an excellent blog YW, & also the very many fine contributors to the comments section, whether I agree with them or not.

Aman made a comment last night that rang very true. I shall read your well written posts with great interest but I shall be thinking long & hard about whether to comment again, whilst this current atmosphere exists.

2. I would prefer to see Gilberto start in central defence and have Denilson partner Diarra in the middle of midfield, although I really would like to see Diaby get a go in the center of the park. But someone would need to play on the left and only Theo could effectively fit in there. Playing 5 in midfield with Edwardo on the left and just Bentner up front just does not do it for me.
Hughes is a complete tosser about his comments but I sppose the press led him in that direction, they don’t like Arsenal being hard as well as skillful, it does not fit into one of their boxes they have created, it also makes their continual comments that ‘Arsenal don’t like it up them!’ seem a bit stupid and the press hate feeling stupid.
Chelsea tried to intimidate us and Terry on Cesc was a straight red as when you see it on normal speed you can hear that the ref had already blown up for the free kick before he went in, so for Eboue to retaliate seemed honnor’s even. He is getting all the stick for being a dirty player but I am muuch happier for him to do the retaliation than any other of our players, someone has too and you can injured yourself. (I don’t like his diving and rolling around though it is unnecessary)
Feel mch better for having a rant.
Anyway come on you Gunners,

3. A stylish victory would be sweet with our boys running rings around the thugs and savages at Ewood Park.

Hopefully, defeat will upset Mark Hughes so much that he turns his palm inward and give us and/or the referee that famous salute popularised by Ashley Cole Esq.

4. Mark Hughes is clearly trying to buy the kind of lenient performance that Alan Wiley delivered in the league game at Ewood. Robbie Savage was actually carded for his NINTH foul in that game (3 unpunished) and should then have been sent off for diving. Blackburn are consistently high-foul count in ALL their games and often seem to encourage the opposition to have higher than average counts too (probably trying to get even). Their speciality is the early foul high up the pitch to disrupt breaks (as copied by Middlesbro recently) without getting a card or conceding in dangerous areas.

5. When Hleb got taken out at West Ham a few minutes later Flamini took Scott Parker out.

The bad tackles cooled after that.

Just saying…….

6. …you kick us we kick you back…harder (see Repka, Terry)

7. A little glimpse of the Fair Play League tells it all. Blackburn are bottom as they have been for most of the last five years. They have two more red cards than anyone else and Chelsea are second bottom (so much for the favouring of the top four)

8. If we want our secret weapons to be sharpened, Eduardo DS, Theo Walcott, Diarra L, N Bendtner, Denilson, A Diaby should all be definite starters. A brace each from Eduardo, Theo and Bendtner would be lovely.

9. On the subject of habitual perpetrators and vicious fouls, whether Eboue intended to injure Terry or not, once again that story is all we hear about while the premeditated Chelsea maliciousness is again swept under the table.
We get videos of the goals every week; what we need also is to get videos or stills of the FOULS — up and available on the net. That would make much more persuasive arguments than words, which are always dismissed as partisan by the other side anyway.
Even just a freeze frame of Terry so clearly sliding in for Fab’s thigh would tell the whole story.

10. It will very interesting to see whether Diarra makes the team. Wenger might not respond well to his demand to leave after such a short space of time at the club. normally wenger would respond better had Diarra been here for over a year or more but not a couple of months.
soI think midfield could be Gilberto and Denilson.

anyone know where Hoyte has been and whether he is definitely in the squad? I did not hear about an injury.

my guess:
Fabi
Hoyte Song Senderos Traore
Walcott Gilberto Denilson Diaby
Eduardo Bendtner

I’d rather have Diarra in the team and put Gilberto at the back though.

11. mr stitch, i agree.look at the statistics –

blackburn are dead last with a comfortable cushion in the fair play table. And that’s with Chelsea picking up an extra 5 cards this week!

Interestingly, Blackburn do not have a single player in the top 28 players in fouls. What that tells me is that Blackburn foul as a team tactic. Unlike most teams, which have a hard man or two bent on disrupting play and protecting their skill players, Blackburn players are encouraged en masse to lay into their opponents…

12. On Diarra..maybe he said ‘I have decided to leave Arsenal’, or maybe he said ‘ i need to decide whether to leave Arsenal’. Same with Flamini, granted he may have scoffed at the 5 year offer on the table, or maybe he just said thanks I have to much Xmas shopping to do, can i take this contract home and read it later. Ill be in touch in the NY, after our busy schedule.

Newspapers can spin anything into anything, T-G for Blogs!.

I dont think we will see RvP, Diarra and Denilson will start, Bert either CB or bench. song will also play

13. hughes tells his team to go out and play like that to disrupt the other side. Blackburn until about 3 weeks ago were doing very well so it vindicated this ‘style’. hughes always tells the ref via the media how they are always unfairly targeted etc but the refs in the majority of cases dont carry any bias into the games and generally you get what you deserve and the fair play table is not lying.
Hughes will learn one day that having players booked all day long and getting red cards is not a good formula for a football club. I dont think Man u would want a manager whose tactics are mainly to maim the opposition.
I doubt it will be a pretty game later on.

14. Dont worry, Im sure Traore will be packing his ‘duster’

15. Given that Gallas played on Weds and Sun, I don’t see him playing tomorrow. Toure, maybe? Diarra may well find himself out of favour for a while just as Flamini was towards the end of last season when he was talking about leaving. I don’t think anything should be read into his comments about his contract as he also said earlier in the season that he did not really want to think about his contract until the season was over. But he was certainly talking like someone who wants to stay. Why would he go anywhere when he is a crucial member of a team, which is top of the premiership?

Flint, I get your point, but my approach is to post my comment and not get involved with the arguments which pass for debate at times. I don’t mind reading a well composed view, which differs from my own, but when I know that I will be reading the same ill considered drivel time and again, selective reading is called for.

16. Message to Flint: You are a voice of reason on this board. Don’t let the crazies scare or intimidate you. They have been wrong on every count this season and when you and others expose their rank foolishness they resort to ad hominem attacks. You Flint are very restrained in your language (unlike The Shotta) which is a tribute to you, but paradoxically it makes them even crazier. It is posters like you who make this site a place for reasoned discussion rather than the drivel, misogyny, chauvinism, racism and sensationalism I read on some Gooner sites (I troll them all – trust me.) Keep posting!

17. Here Here – Flint McCullough – a scholar & a gent, keep posting.

YW

19. PS: How “reasoned” can a football fan be? I love being a a “gunnah” among gooners and getting a laff at the expense of our opponents especially that cunt Cashley Cole. That episode with Cesc at the end of Sunday’s game was classic. Isn’t our little Cesc a legend in the making. He had a rush of blood when he lashed out at Cuntley, who then swatted him in his face. Once Cesc realized his error he rolled around like a litlle girl…even now I can’t stopped chuckling. Hey guys, it may not be “fair” but these things happen in a game. Some players like Cesc (and Eboue) play with emotion and will do every thing to win a game. Heh, Heh, Heh!

20. I think Blackburn will definitely be up for this game , i really hope arsene takes this game seriously as it would be a confidence booster for the club and fans alike. ( TO LIFT SILVERWARE)
It will probably be as yogi describes another 4-5-1
I have my personal reservations on that formation ,However if RVP is the lone gun ,I’m sure we will be in with a chance…
I would start with the youngsters but i would include some experience on the bench as the game might need turning ..

I think its important to include hleb or fabregas
as a Marshall in the center ,just to maintain some creative consistency . I think the last thing we need is to be knocked out of another cup .

21. I think Blackburn might be a little to strong for the boys tonight. I went to the away game up there earlier in the season and it’s quite an intimidating place.
I wonder if Arsenal go out tonight, whether Wenger would consider giving Eduardo to Pompey for the remainder of the season. He needs a run of games and they need players. It might suit both of us, with Bendtner and Theo staying on board as back up.
Team for tonight
Fabianksi
J Hoyte, Senderos, Song, Traoré
Walcott, Diarra, Gilberto, Diaby
Eduardo, Bendtner
Hold Van Persie back for the scum on Saturday.

Good post as usual Yogi.

22. I think the last thing we need is two legged semi final v Everton, Man City/Spuds, Chel$ki/’pool in the new year young players or not. Defeat therefore could be a blessing in disguise. Although it gives the press a chance to dust off the Arsenal crumbling line again and Hughes to crow he has got Arsenal sussed.

Christmas will be interesting we have Spuds (H), Portsmouth (A), Everton (A), West Ham (H) compared to Man Utd’s Everton (H), Sunderland (A), West Ham (A), Birmingham City (H).

I guess the key is that we don’t lose too much ground on them

23. Arsenal seems to be looking at india for some future stars…http://news.webindia123.com/news/articles/India/20071218/851025.html

24. Hi Yogi,

… and fellow writers. I don’t often contribute to the posts but I have been an avid read sense I first learnt of it. I believe Yogi that your write ups are witty with informed opinion, that let does read and respond with our own is what this place is all about. All that being said I finally managed to get to read the blog yesterday and was eager in my anticipation post the game with Chelsea which I actually got to see here in Canada, how I was left aghast at the vitriol and personal attacks by certain bloggers. I can see where Aman is coming from and whilst there is little point in finger pointing or naming names, certain passionate people have always been a little over the top. Can I as a fellow reader implore all to take a step back and realise that whilst we all may believe passionately in things we love those opinions are not always shared. So what! Passion is fine, but the line was stepped over yesterday… learn to accept and appreciate the differences we have, there is no perfect right nor wrong.

Toronto G

25. Apologies for the typo’s early here and I was some what emotive in the writing.

26. Squad announced:

2 Abou DIABY (Age 21)
6 Philippe SENDEROS (Age 22)
8 Lassana DIARRA (Age 22)
9 EDUARDO (Age 24)
15 DENILSON (Age 19)
17 Alex SONG (Age 20)
21 Lukasz FABIANSKI (GK) (Age 22)
26 Nicklas BENDTNER (Age 19)
30 Armand TRAORE (Age 18)
31 Justin HOYTE (Age 22)
34 Kieran GIBBS (Age 18)
36 Mark RANDALL (Age 18)
40 Vito MANNONE (GK) (Age 19)
41 Gavin HOYTE (Age 17)
42 Fran MERIDA (Age 17)
43 Nacer BARAZITE (Age 17)

Really young team. It would be an amazing feat to beat Blackburn with that.

The press got it totally wrong again. No Gallas, no RVP, none of that. Wenger said last year that his strategy of mixing some first teamers for the Carling Cup matches could have been the reason for the injuries/tiredness later in the year, a mistake that he would like not to commit again. So I am not surprised by this selection (though I expected maybe Gilberto and Theo -who is apparently ill- to be included) and, Vivb, I don’t see how fielding a team consisting of this players in a potential two-legged semifinal could affect us in the league, as long as Arsène doesn’t feel tempted of throwing a Cesc or a Hleb here or there into the mix.

27. No gilberto, which I think is a good call and Theo is ill, which I think gives a place either to Gibbs or Barazite. I like leaving this one to youth. If we do lose, I can accept it. this competition is all about giving the young players chances to make mistakes or prove themselves.

Fabi
Hoyte Song Senderos Traore
Diaby Diarra Denilson Gibbs
Eduardo Bendtner

Bench: Barazite, Merida, G Hoyte, Mannone, Randall

I really like the look of Barazite and Gibbs from the really young players. I am still to be totally convinced by Merida and Randall but I am sure they will convince me within a year or two. Whatever, I’d like to see 3 of them given 10-15 minutes later but clearly the situation has to suit that. If its a tight game then its hard to make changes when the players coming on are so inexperienced.

28. Squad announced:

2 Abou DIABY (Age 21)
6 Philippe SENDEROS (Age 22)
8 Lassana DIARRA (Age 22)
9 EDUARDO (Age 24)
15 DENILSON (Age 19)
17 Alex SONG (Age 20)
21 Lukasz FABIANSKI (GK) (Age 22)
26 Nicklas BENDTNER (Age 19)
30 Armand TRAORE (Age 18)
31 Justin HOYTE (Age 22)
34 Kieran GIBBS (Age 18)
36 Mark RANDALL (Age 18)
40 Vito MANNONE (GK) (Age 19)
41 Gavin HOYTE (Age 17)
42 Fran MERIDA (Age 17)
43 Nacer BARAZITE (Age 17)

A guess at the team

Fabianski; J Hoyte, Senderos, Song, Traore; Randall, Denilson, Diarra, Diaby; Eduardo, Bendtner

Subs:

Mannone, G Hoyte, Merida, Gibbs, Barazite

No point in going 4-5-1 with the inexperience best to set as a 4-4-2. Possibly switch Diaby to the right and bring in Gibbs.

YW

29. It is certainly going to be a tough sk for our youngsters to do it tonight, but they have nothing to lose, so bring it on!

I only just went back and read all of yesterdays comments, and have to say i was shocked by someof the posts.

This is my ONLY daily read Arsenal blog, as i know i can come on and share opinions and have level headed, intelligent debate with people on all things Arsenal.

The bottom line is we all love the club, even if we dont always share the same opinions on players.

Any feelings or critiscism i have on players is purely based on wanting my team to be the best.

I dont think Yogi, or anyone here wants to have comments removed, or people barred, so lets all try and be a little more sensible from now on shall we?

No names mentioned, Ethan! 🙂

30. only the centre backs concern me a bit but thats not to say i’d rather use someone else there because I dont. they just worry me. pace I think is the reason and the odd mis-kick! I hope Djourou returns in January. he would make me a lot more secure in games like this and while Toure is away.

31. Has the blackburn squad been announced ?
One presumes its full strength minus emerson..
I have to say that arsene isnt obviously taking this fixture seriously !? As much as i admire his policy on the youth and the CC fixtures .Very light on in defenders and central creativity . Lets hope Lukasz makes us proud !
Because he will need to do an almunia to get something from this .

gazzap
I agree its good to see the youth get there moment in the sun , but against blackburn ?
I can see some stretchers coming onto the field in this one !

32. You could be right with that team Yogi, the only change i might make is for Gibbs to play left midfield and bring Diaby over to the right and have Randall warm the bench. I think Arsene will go 4-4-2, and is right to play these lads as going out in the league cup is the least of our priorities and gives the boys fantastic experience. Its not worth risking injury with the programme we have coming up, Spurs, Portsmouth and Everton with West Ham coming shortly after, in my opinion Arsene is correct.

33. Matt

No names mentioned, Ethan! 🙂

Are you saying i initiated the name calling yesterday?
you need to grow up yourself . I was expressing my OPINION about ade ,tis all ! other people also agreed with my views ! Now you isolate me ! your no better than the Linch mob who victimized me yesterday !

34. Blackburn Squad

(from): Friedel, Nelsen, Samba, Warnock, Tugay, Mokoena, Reid, Bentley, Dunn, Pedersen, Santa Cruz, McCarthy, Roberts, Brown, Savage, Berner, Derbyshire, Khizanishvili, Treacy.

35. YW

I may not be the best commentators around and relatively new to this blog but I agree with Flint. Lately disgreements and hints of disgreements have been subjected to personal attacks which I find absolutely offensive. I need not mentoned names but you know who they are. Yours is one of the best written blogs and most of the comments have been from reasoned and well thot out with an air of conviviality and civility albeitb sometimes with a lot of passion. That is acceptable but personal attacks are I hope are not. It is my sincere hope that it does not descend into hatred filled comments on those who disgree with one another. Your blog deserve much better.

Cheers, we looked closer to winning the league for that I am delirious with anticipation.

36. I have got no problem with the squad .. AW is faithful to his policy of playing a young 2nd tier squad in the CC
Gilberto does not fit that bill any longer .. if he was leave AFC, there would be no point playing him altogether
also .. coming back to what I said yday about Diarra and his place in the French squad and subsequenntly Yogi’s blog today, my main concern is that one unhappy player can be contagious .. see Diaby who voiced similar concerns a few weeks ago .. same guy who apparently sold AFC to Sagna!!
that would not be good..either AW sorts Diarra out or he kicks him out asap..no 2 ways about it even if I understand where the player comes from

37. Ethan – maybe you should take a moment and wonder why people seemed to gang up on you?

You seem to enjoy fanning the flames and throwing names around just as much, if not more than anyone else.

If you stick to having your opinions, and dont throw your rattle if people disagree with you, then there is not a problem.

38. I’ve been impressed by Gibbs, hope he gets an opportunity tonight.

39. Robin Van Helsing

so the Times is saying Flamini has rejected an initial contract figure…other rumours linking him with a move to Milan after January.

So first Bendtner, Then Diaby, now Diarra, all moaning and whinging that they cant get a place, that they feel ‘unwanted’, lack of opportunities – this after the manager has put a lot of faith in bringing them here…wake up fellaz…your playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world…watched my millions, all so young and yet they demand first team opportunities…

now flamini might not sign cos he is not being offered enough…seems like a virus is spreading at the emirates…its symptoms include impatience and greed…and evryone wanting to leave for one reason or t’other

its pissing me off i tell ya

I blame their agents

40. For those youngsters we don’t get to see much in the first team, I really want to see Gibbs, Merida and Barazite. Guess Gibbs is closer to getting a starting berth because of the LW void. Hard for the other two for the Edu/Bendtner partnership is more established up front, and CM is just tough to get into, both at the 1st team and CC squad levels. But we’ve been hearing so many good things about these kids that I just can’t wait to see for myself, especially against some tough opponents like Blackburn.

May the best team win. And really really hope the kids come through it unscathed. It’s a good test nonetheless.

41. Matt,

Please stop!

I’m hoping for a big game from Fabianski. I would like to see him get some good experience. AW’s comments about him on the website were startling to read, especially the bit about challenging for a first team position. I have very high hopes for the young Pole and hope he will not disappoint. I truly hope he is the keeper for the future.

This team will have their mettle tested tonight. That is an a lot of inexperience to be sent out onto the pitch and Blackburn sounds like they will be in a “take no prisoners” sort of mood. I’m disappointed for Theo as he was no doubt looking forward to this match. Let’s hope for a breakout game from Bendtner and no serious injuries. As for Eduardo…AW has tipped him to be better in 2008 and that day is fast approaching. He needs some good play to come his way.

42. I’m all for people being passionate in expressing their opinions, and, everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, the problem with the insults and misplaced anger is that it is tedious, boring and completely devoid of humour or interest.

I read this site to have my own opinions challenged and, hopefully, a laugh. As soon as I see the post containing the name of Adebayor or Almunia, I switch off. It’s repetitive

What would have been interesting after Sundays game woould haqve been to discuss why Cole has become an average player. Even, when he was with us I thought he was overrated. Good, but never scored enough goals nor got enough crosses in (like Bridge).

Finally, just a reminder after yesterdays fun and games; We’re top!

43. The young lads need these kind of sometimes harsh games to learn that it’s not all rosy playing for a top club like Arsenal. I think Wenger record for the CC in the past 11 years shows we never won it, but what we win from this official competition is our young players who will have to compete against an EPL team like BBurn and there is a trophy at stake in their minds. That is different from playing in a friendly or the reserves.

I agree with Yogi on Hughes tactics & antics, it doesn’t surprise me with someone who was and is linked with Fergie & Man Ure…and the bottom line for both is “If you can’t play them, kick them”.

What’s different about our team this year is that they match the physical for physical but they never lose sight of the 3 points or lose concentration, you can say they do it more professionally now…and I like that.

It will be a tough game today, but if we fight for every ball and take our chances when they come, we still can beat them.

Good luck Gunners
G4E

44. Loiusa

I agree with you. I see Gibbs as the guy possible to come through next season because of the problems we have at the LW position and the fact that he’s been impressive so far.

I recall his sudden appearance in the pre-season Inter Milan game and recent CC game against Sheffield United.

Its possible that Matthew Connoly may also be back in the squad next season. He’s done well so far at Colchester as a CB on loan and has been called in the U21 so Arsene may be keeping a tap on him. He will definitely come back and compete with Senderos and Djourou for the back-up position and at 19, time is on his side.

Barazite could also break through at the RM position but I’m doubtful for Randal, Merida and Lansburi. There are so many good young midfielders in front of them especially in the middle where Fab4 and Flamster and co reign supreme and still young.

If Gibbs continue to perform decently as I’m hopeful he’ll play today then a breakthrough is on the way for him. Arsene has already described him as the next Ryan Giggs.

45. Howard, Merida and Lansbury are only 17! Seems a bit soon to write them off. Remember Cesc is the exception. I certainly don’t see any of our other young stars hitting the heights as early as he did.

46. This is why I always feel positive about Arsenal. We have a huge number of young talented players coming through and soon will be competing for a place in the first team.

We have a very bright future without having to spend hundreds of millions on players just to be like every other club in the top 4. apart from Himovichi (were money is nothing) every other manager probably envy us for all the talent we have, not just in our 1st team but more impotantly what’s coming through the youth system.

47. Passenal, Howard was not writing the kids off. He just pointed out (fairly) that the competition’s really keen in CM.

And on Barazite, I thought he’s a striker (probably because of his goal-scoring ability), but apparently he mainly operates as an attacking midfielder. I heard from someone (Steve Bould or Liam Brady or some youth coach) that he’s like a RvP-type technical player. I’ve found an article from last year where the kid says he does learn from RvP – click on my name.

48. And isn’t it awesome (almost scary) that we have these younger versions of Cesc’s, RvP’s, while the originals are still in their early 20’s?! RvP was still being called “new Dennis Bergkamp” or something, Diaby the “new Vieria”, Ade the “new Kanu” not that long ago. Amazing how Arsene and his scouts uncover these players so very consistently over so many years!

No matter how far we go this year (I think we’ve been over-delivering on initial expectations already), it’s going to be even more interesting next year when we get the likes of Carlos Vela, Jay Simpson, Matt Connolly and Djourou back. I wonder how Arsene keeps so many players happy…

49. Blackburn 0 – 1 Arsenal!

Evidently Diaby has a left foot! You wouldn’t know it from previous evidence but it counts!

50. Blackburn 0 -2 Arsenal!

Eduardo! All we need now is Bendtner to get on the scoreboard and we’re golden!

51. down to ten. will be tough from here. challenge did look bad though , thats all we need. I can already hear the dirty old arsenal b****** that will inevitably ensue.

52. get in!!!!!!!!

53. SONG…SONG…SONG…SONG…SONG…SONG

Eduardo…beautifully clinical, ran himself ragged

Denilson…nasty

Bendtner…tires too easily

Diarra…first 25 mins, wow

Hoyte…fantastic at end

Senderos…dreadful positioning throughout

Fabianski…he’ll do

Great all-round performance.

54. Funny how some of us (including me) didn’t believe in Song….it appears he was man of the match.

Didn’t see the game….yet again. Work sucks!

55. great result. fabianski looks good, no fault for the goals. traore looks good could even play left mid imo. song is better then senderos so i would rather him play there in jan!

56. Funny perspectives on Senderous…

The guy behind me kept shouting: ‘I hate that f*cking Cu*t’.

The guys I was with thought he was colossal – sure a few mistakes…but so did Song, Diaby and on from 1 to 11.

The ball just kept coming to him in extra time like some sort of magnet – but did Phil’s number one fan acknowledge that, or indeed anything good he did? Course not, but hey – if Song can turn it round so can Phil.

They’re young, particularly the defenders which is not a young mans game, they all make mistakes – but they’re all growing.

Phil in particular is cover and I think people expect him to be a world beater every time he plays. But he is only 22 which is very young for a centre half – I remember Tony Adams at that age…

And what entertainment. The booze definately helps as though it has to be said.

57. Oh…

When Barazite was being carried off – who was walking off with him?

Who was shaking his fist in his face, presumably telling him the boys were going to win for him?

Phil Senderos.

58. arsenal reserves march on in the cup again, 1 final and now a semi. aint bad. goodnight gooners!!!!!!!!!!

59. Well said JK, you write off a player and then they trun it around…..and you say to yourself, if I was a little bit more patient.

Hey, that’s life. I’m glad the boys won.

60. JK…

I don’t doubt his commitment to the cause and the team…

I want to like him…

but his positioning tonight was awful…showing it’s not just his miskicks that kill.

Song was on a whole different level.

But a terrific result, marvellous.

61. Joseph K.

Tony Adams was already out there at that age. TA made mistakes but it didn’t take him that long to develop fully.

Song was great and without him there was no way we could’ve won. Song was the guy who stopped all Rovers counteratacks and was very efficient in the air too. He capped that up by putting Eduardo through for the third goal.

Song has found his real position which is CB and with our weakness in that area I’m sure the future is bright for him.

While Senderos was okay, it became clear that in a fast and pressure game, he’s not for it. The way Arsenal play don’t suit him. He’ll do well in teams like POOL and Chelsea with a defensive approach to the game.

Good Night.

62. You missed a performance G4E, the kids did us proud. Fantastic for half an hour, Blackburn got back in with a goal that was offside. Start of the second half we were matched and they probably deserved to level. But the boys kept on fighting, Denilson deserved his straight red and with ten men we scored the winner through Eduardo who i agree with Arsene when he gets to grips with the EPL is going to be a key player for us, his finishing is awesome. Diarra did very well as did Diaby and yes i would agree judging on tonight Song is our most improved player made a few elementary mistakes but gave a super through pass for the winner. A few players were poor big Phil struggled as did Nic but all in all a great result and a superb fighting display.

63. Howard for once I agree with you Song was outstanding and is well ahead of Senderos, I APOLOGISE FOR SLAGGING HIM OFF IN THE PAST. Its shame hes going to ANC, he should be part of the squad.

We must hold on to Diarra he was great so was Diably, and Dudu showed how when he completely settles in he will be awesome. Big Phil has made too many mistakes at crucial times, Song should be the back up when he comes back from ANC. Now is the time to say goodbye and thank you to Gilberto.

64. Robin Van Helsing

Alexandre ‘BECKENBAUR’ Song –

what a performance!

65. Thanks for the report Vetran, the game was not on any network I have…so I will have to look around and see if I can see it somewhere online. I’ll be so mad if I don’t get to see it.

66. I got to tell you, what 3 goals those are!! They are really played very well. I don’t know where to start….Diaby’s cheeky one, at first I thought he didn’t mean it, but he actually did…and I don’t know what it was? a Chip, a well placed lop-shot? Whatever it is, it was real nice. Eduardo’s run and coolness should not take from the great ball from Denilson…although the defender helped by missing it. The third is an awesome inch perfect ball from Song, and again Cool-Eduardo…very cool.

I didn’t see the game yet so I’m seeing it from one side at the moment because I didn’t see our lapses leading to conceding the two goals.

67. Aah, classy sanity restored!
Thanks Yogi,
Lets Go The Arsenal!!!!!!!!

68. Thanks to ALL bloggers, guys & gals

69. That was a game of halves !
We won round one – they won round 2
and dudu was the clinical finisher in ET.
And the difference …
I hope that proves that him partnering with RVP in a 4-4-2 is clearly the way forward.

It was a good effort from the arsenal B side.
In fact maybe we should of played that team
in our EPL game against B’Burn at the start of the season 🙂 .

Our young keeper is ready ,I think with that said,
jens needs to pack his bags ASAP. selling him to wolfsburg would be a better idea than the manc’s.

Also from songs preformance we might be seeing him more once the ANC is in progress .But i think wenger we still look at a defender during the transfer window as kolo is too bigger loss !
All in all a sensational game.

Time to face Ramos …

I don’t think Song is part of the Cameroun team. He’s already played for France in the junior games, though born in Cameroun he seems to have opted for France, need to recheck this though.

I think from the chances Song has had in the CB position, Song is better as CB than CM and is all clear too that he shows better prospect than both Djourou and Senderos.

However’ will Arsene place Song above Senderos? Arsene’s ‘marriage’ to Senderos is becoming wierd as he proved once again last night that he can’t be relied upon to fit in when Kolo is off. Sendy did better than in recent games but his panicky clearance, poor mobility and apparent lack of confidence was worrisome in the Rovers game.

I’ll be very happy if Arsene considers Song above both Djourou and Sendy in the CB position. Song seems to be the most improved player of late. Arsene should give him more opportunities to shine.

I’ve criticised Song before playing at CM but he has proved of late that he’s another ‘Toure’ in the making.

71. Hey Howard

Just pulled this from arsenal.com

Alex was restricted in his first-team appearances, only featuring for 90 minutes in Prague. The Cameroonian is adapting to life as a centre-half this season and will be hoping for further chances to impress as he looks to make the his country’s squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations.

That was in November

Yes i think senderos definately looks the worst of our best.. If you get my meaning !
But i do attibute it to confidence, He would have been better served going on loan to say Birminghamthis season , to get some vital confidence and game time that he is clearly lacking .

His future does seem to be in the balance , and if he did go on loan we could gauge his progress through the course of the year .Which i’m sure would have made him come good .
