Burnley Preview: Don’t Get Turfed Out At The Moor

Having clawed their way back into the title race, this evening’s trip to Turf Moor is a tricky fixture but not one that contenders should lose. The halcyon days of the Lancashire club may have long passed but they are setting about retaining their Premier League status following the path trodden by Stoke City last season; impressive at home adding in a point here and there on their travels. The paucity of the performance at The Britannia Stadium in 2008/09 should serve as a useful deterrent to any complacency which might set in ahead of this fixture.

Not having played a match there in the top flight for thirty five years, it is hardly surprising to find Arsenal has not emerged victorious in a league match at Burnley since the double winning season. The hosts have already claimed the scalp of Manchester United in the early season fixtures, the history books forget that it may not have been the fair result based on the performances that night but it was the final scoreline and that is all that counts in retrospect.

With all due respect to the hosts, it is condescending to say it is a fixture Arsenal has made a habit of losing over the years, even with squad’s that were supposedly far better than this one. The win at Anfield has reignited belief with a lot of talk coming from the players in recent days, acknowledging that the performance in the second half merited the result. Tonight a slack first half performance may not be forgiven so readily by their opponents.

The list of walking wounded visiting the London Colney medical rooms grew following the victory at Anfield with left back proving to be a rather cursed position, reminiscent of the way it was in 2005/06 season. Armand Traore has tweaked a hamstring and misses this evening whilst Denilson has a back injury although Arsene was unable to say if it was a recurrence of the Brazilian’s recent fracture. They will have to make their own amusement since renowned comedian, Emmanuel Eboue, has been passed fit for this evening.

With Denilson out, Diaby will slot back into the midfield following his return on Sunday, presumably Silvestre dropping into left back although Arsene could switch Sagna to there with Eboue on the right. It is up front that Wenger has choices to make. The second half performance on Sunday does not warrant any changes but Eduardo is now fit and Wenger has to decide if he is more effective as a centre forward than Arshavin? Likewise, Walcott was ineffective on Sunday so does Nasri retain his place with the Russian shifting to the left to accommodate a central change. I suspect that the latter trio is how Wenger will line-up this evening:

Almunia; Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Silvestre; Diaby, Fabregas, Song; Nasri, Eduardo, Arshavin

A win is vital. Pressure was applied at the top of the table with United winning last night. The home game against Everton should have been routine for Chelsea; the fixture against Portsmouth will be. Three points is necessary to keep the gap closed at six points, especially as the coming league fixtures allow Arsenal to take advantage of any further slips with the Christmas fixture against Villa an opportunity to increase the gap to fourth.

Enjoy the match wherever you are watching it. ’til Tomorrow.

  1. We will cope with the injuries this season. This really is the best Arsenal squad I have ever seen.

  2. The squad is actually very large, if we didn’t have as many injuroes we’d have a major problem in midfield keeping everyone happy.

    Good Preview YW

  3. ‘injuries’ i meant obviously

  4. I would like to see Arshavin continue as a False 9. Dudu is ineffective up front. His movement will be optimally used in the wings.

  5. Some Burnley players are upbeat about this game , the carling cup triumph gives them hope but I beleive we will beat them without any trouble, Arshavin will score again.
Lots of debate about the wolves for changing 10 players and fielding a weaker team against Manure, They should no have bothered to turn up and refund their fans their expenses. They are saving themselves for the Burnley game let hope Burnley beat them and they might learn a lesson.

  6. This season, each time a team receive plaudits and start believing their own hype, they become unstuck. It has happened to us, Chelsea, Man City, Spuds.

It’s not just consistency that will win the league, it’s concentration and humility.

Provided we don’t underestimate Burnley and start with a high tempo, we should win.

  7. 1LC,

We know that teams surrendering before they even get to Old Trafford gives Man Utd many undeserved points a season.

Look at last season when they won several matches 1-0. Many teams didn’t even show up. As far as I remember only Allardyce-Blackburn, Zola-West Ham, & Shearer-Newcastle even turned up, and they gave Man Utd a fight. Most other teams just went up their and rolled over.

    It’s nothing new.

  8. @ Kv….i agree with u about eduardo….but then another way to look at it is that maybe he needs to be played as the no. 9 so he can regain some of his form and finness….coz we know what hes capable of when in full flow. Then again…even Walcott needs a run of games to be match fit and fluent again…so i wouldnt be suprised if dudu is left on the bench and walcott is given the go ahead. Dudu can be called on when needed/

  9. If we start with this team:

    - – – – – – – – Fabianski- – – – – – – – – – -
    - – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -
    Sagna – Gallas – Vermaelen – Silvestre
    - – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -
    - – – – – – – – —- – – – – – – – – – – – – – -
    - – – – – – –Song- — – – – – – – – – –
    - – – – -– – – – – – – Fabregas – – – – – – –
    Eboue —- – – – – – – – – – – – – – – Nasri — -
    - – – – – – – – – –Diaby – – – – – – – – – – -
    - – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -
    - – – – – – – –- Arshavin- – – – – – – – – -

We shall walk out victors. Sorry Mr. Coyle we have a premier league to win.

  10. I’ll play;

    Eduardo Arshavin Walcott

    Diaby Song Fabregas

    Silvestre Vermaelen Gallas Sagna

    Almunia

Bench: Fabianski, Vela, Ramsey, Senderos, Nasri, Eboue, Wilshere

  11. Though you say Walcott was ineffective on Sunday, it was more a case that the whole frontline allowed themselves to be pushed too deep first half. In the second half, when we loosened up and took the game to Liverpool, Walcott played well, I thought. He didn’t catch the eye with a moment of brilliance and he may not have worked quite as tirelessly as Nasri, but he’s just coming back and he did well.

I think Burnley’s back four will really struggle to cope with him. Knowing they can be undone in half an instant by one clip through the gate for Theo – will drive them to their wits end.

  12. wouldnt mind ramsey ahead of diaby
i dnt know about tonight could be troublesome, bt weve got a title to win..

  13. Can Eboue play at LB?

  14. I like that PIRES, but as I say, I favour Walcott on the right and I’m also desperate for Eduardo to get a game (he does seem to have a beach of a time playing Burnley), and get a goal – so I’d go with Ole’s team.

I agree with you that with Diaby playing, Fabregas will naturally sit deeper and Diaby will roam about long-leggedly behind and amongst the front three.

    Can’t wait.

  15. I thought Walcott was effective against Liverpool. He had a hand in both goals.

We still need him to be a bit better in holding the ball up, and to do more to fit into intricate play on the edge of the opponent’s box.

I think he should start tonight. Burnley lack pace in defence, and Walcott will be exactly the right guy to pin them back, and create space for our attack and midfield.

  16. Ole yours is the more likely team to be fielded tonight.

  17. It will be very cold in Burnley this evening. Players must resist the urge to wear gloves. We play better without them.

  18. Dudu shuld sit on d bench.

    Almunia

    sagna verminator gallas fishead

    song
    diaby
    fab

    eboue andrey nasir

  19. All I want for Christmas is for Vela, Wlacott, & Eduardo to find their best form. We need our strikers firing. We have strength and numbers in midfield. Clichy will be back soon. Sagna and Eboue are ok. Gallas and Vermaelen are in good shape.

If our strikers roar into life we could be top of the league by mid-January!

  20. What chance Vermaelen at left back? Silvestre surely doesn’t have the attacking game to play as the type of full back we need, and I’d feel more comfortable with him at centre back. I’d love to see TV bombing up the wing this evening…it’s been far too long since we’ve seen him unleash that monster shot of his.

  21. Ole’s team every time for me. If Walcott or Edu get in the goals it could just start the ball rolling, for them and the team. A little confidence for either of them would be perfectly timed.

Also just want to say that McCarthy is the shittest manager in the league. Thats not sour grapes as they didn’t try to beat Manure, as even with the best wolves team out i’d expect nothing more than 3 points to Man U. It’s because of his lack of respect for his own team, he basically said you lot have no chance of beating them and the players he fielded you lot don’t matter if you are injured. Also what do the fans think.

  22. OG i also thought Walcott improved in his last 2 games. He appears t when he runs through the centre he makes defenders nervous. The rest will come.

As for Eduardo. How can we even doubt that he can play the number 9 position. Are you for real. If your memory can stretch back to 2008/9 season at Goodison Park Eduardo made the difference when he won the game by scoring 2 incredible goals from long punts over the top. I seem to remember him effortlessly losing his markers and the keeper to score as a lone striker . Before his injury he and Adebayor where the most lethal strike force pairing. With a run of games and a 2nd stiker he will be knocking them in for fun.

  23. No point disrupting centrebacks to fill a gap at leftback. Silvestre will be fine against Burnley and Vermaelen pushes forward against any and everyone.

  24. Arshavin has done what looked impossible, by replacing RVP’s level of performance.

Just as good as his goal on Sunday was the role he played in the first, dropping deep, dragging a CB out of position, holding off the challenge and passing behind the defenders to the runner.

What we need now is more production from the wide players. Walcott and Nasri each had a hand in a goal Sunday, so that bodes well. I think Nasri has been excellent, but is getting little praise for it.

Song is in the top 3 in the world at his position now, a brilliant players in every aspect of the game.

    3 points a must.

  25. Limpar – Well the reason I choose eboue is because he’s more defensive but also offers the same thing Walcott offers in attack. I can only see Walcott being devastatingly effective coming off the bench where his pace will punish Burnley’s tired legs. Eduardo and Ramsey coming off the bench to replace tired players later on in the game will surely give Burnley more unanswered headaches. We shouldn’t throw in all our attacking players from the beginning. We should let Arshavin have his fun then throw in fresh hungry players.

  26. Thank you G4L you seem to have a bit of memory.. I also recall Adebayor underestimating Eduardo being selfish that year when he could have given him the ball in space..

  27. Ole I hope father Christmas is listening. I want the same gift as you.

  28. Is it just me or does Theo have an obsession with frightening defenders.. I wonder where that comes from..

  29. Silvestre will cope tonight, what a big game this is, if we lose i don’t believe we deserve to win the title, the Arsenal will have to do it on a cold night on a crap pitch.

    Come On Arsenal.

Arshavin won’t mind the cold, might remind him of his freezing away days for zenit in sh*t stadiums.

I expect him to be involved a lot tonight

  30. Actually, does anyone think Ramsey would do a great job being second striker?? The boy can shoot, he can pass and his positioning is immaculate. I can see him flourish if given the freedom to take that position.

  31. Him n Cesc can interchange positions too. It’ll be like having two Cescs in the team. The markers will go ballistic.

  32. G4L,

I don’t doubt Eduardo. I doubt he’s been in his best form. And we desperately need him to find it. We’re not a Chelsea content to be carried by Drogba. We’re not Man Utd depending on Ronaldo and now Rooney. We’re a collective side, and the more players in form the better.

We shouldn’t put too much strain on Arshavin.

    COYG!!

  33. I agree Ole about the strain but if you think about it its not just him that were putting a strain on. Gallas, Verm, Sagna, Song and Fabregas have been put in similar if not more pressure than Arshavin. Arshavin might not score tonight but you can rest assuured that any of the aforementioned players probably will.

  34. With Walcotts pace you can beat people with fresh legs lets just get him on and put some balls along the deck for him to run onto. Edu can do his thing on the left.

  35. Still think Walcott should be our super sub. If he does start I really do hope he makes me eat my words.

  36. Its clear that although its the number on his back that Dudu lacks the qualities of a no 9 striker..

  37. He just needs a player to play off of. I can see him and Bendtner be a devastating force upfront.

  38. or perhaps he just lacks fitness and confidence ..

  39. You have to keep in mind what he’s been through. Scoring was second nature until that devastating injury. We you score as many goals as he had n then just suddenly go through a drought must take a toll on ones ability and confidence. He must be mentally strong and overcome this stop start season. This is the opportune time to overcome his demons with all the injuries we have in the attacking department.

  40. Vidic was injured again last night, a calf strain that should see him miss the Fulham game. Wes Brown is out again too. This means some charlie called Ritche De Leat will play at centreback and Fulham will be fancying their chances.

  41. Right second time, KS.

Is anyone else fascinated by the media obsession with Arsene’s Liverpool team talk? That it is such a big deal three days later must be saying something about them, just not sure what!

  42. In my opinion, a pair of thermal underpants is as good as a pair of gloves. Keep the loins warm and everything else will follow.

  43. Fungunner 1st time was a feeble attempt at sarcasm..

  44. I don’t think Wenger was that pleased with Cesc saying that, I’m sure he’s had a word with him.

I think a lot of people forget how hard it is to play in the premier league, I think only if you know how to play football you really appreciate just how good the players are.

Hate it how everyone wants the players to be like in a playstation game, we have to remember they are human

  45. Edu is potentially far better in the central role than Arshavin or Robin Van Persie IMO.

  46. I seem to remember him(Dudu) starting off this season greatly.Things fell apart after his public humiliation and his recent niggles havent helped much but i believe he will come good again. Games is what he needs.

  47. OK, got you, KS.

  48. IT’S SNOWING

  49. Agreed, firstlady – his form suffered after the Celtic game.

  50. sorry for the over-excitement, but i feel like sh*t coz i have f*cking tonsilitis, and the only thing that will cheer me up is this snow and a win vs burnley

  51. bloody celtic, cheats. Aiden f*cking mdgeady pisses on abt how he cheated and against st.mirren, he dives and gets sent off after a second yellow. The new edition of the Oxford dictionary should have the definition of ‘hypocrite’ as aiden mggeady

  52. I like the Sky Sports snowman campaign.

  53. I know alot is expected from the players but i’m sure the players expect even more from themselves the the fans. They love Wenger and will go to any lengths to succeed under his tutelage.

  54. - – - – - – - – - – - – -almunia – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -sagna- – - – -gallas – - -vermaelen – -eboue – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – song- – - – - -cesc – - – - – diaby- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -eduardo – - -arshavin – - -nasri – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – -ma team

  55. than the*

  56. Thats a very attack minded team. Switch eduardo with nasri and I think we just might have got ourselves a winner.

  57. wait…that turned out terribly.

  58. How many teams have a 4th choice left back? Clichy, Gibbs, Traore all missing! Shouldn’t Clichy be back already anyway?

  59. Still think this is more balanced. Keep in mind that Burnley isnt goin to sit back. Their not gna pull a Bolton or Blackburn but rather are going to bring the game to us. Think this will give us a more defensive effort to cope with the early pressure.

    - – – – – – – – Fabianski- – – – – – – – – – -

    - – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – -
    - – – – – – – –- Arshavin- – – – – – – – – -

  60. I think his due back date has been the Hull game for a while now, Ole. Which I guess means he should be back in training now.

  61. Cliche surely is back for Villa in 2 weeks. What a huge game that’ll be.

well, every game is when you’re title contenders

  62. eboue, piresaholic?

interesting, you know i think that may work, but what about ramsey, he might just be thrown in

  63. Ole- I’m telling you he’s the forgotten man of arsenal. Can’t believe were that cursed with injuries. It must be depressing for all our non 1st choice players. Imagine waiting years for your chance only to get injured. Traore has the opportunity of a life time with the 1st n 2nd choice injured and wound up injured himself. Football is so strange sometimes.

  64. As many people have observed, when Arshavin arrived at Arsenal he immediately made friends with Bendtner. The foundation of their friendship was their shared appreciation of the benefits of thermal underpants. Coming from countries where thermal underwear is de rigeur in winter, they naturally continued the habit when they came to England. Team mates would often hear them chattering away about how warm they were kept by their thermal underpants. The pair often laughed at their colleagues as they shivered in their stylish but uninsulated designer smalls.

  65. I really miss Bentdner.

  66. Zap- I’m actually very impressed with eboue this season. After a torrid season last year and coming back stronger than ever I think he deserves a start. Plus he offers the same attacking options as Walcott would. Ramsey should come in when were in a comfortable position. Walcott in to scare the hell out of the exhausted defenders. I really love our squad after all these injuries. Seeing the depth we have to cover for the missing players made me appreciate it more.

Wenger is always spot on. Remember he tried to get Chamakh and noone else. If we did get him he’d be filling RVP’s void right now. Its like Wenger can see the future or something its seriously crazy.

  67. what a man eboue is, to come back after wigan last season.

So what did he actually do last season, i wasn’t watching it and arsenal tv doesn’t show it, what did he do that game?

  68. PIRES,

Eboue does not offer the same attacking options as Walcott, he doesn’t have the pace. He is a good option because he will cover Sagna all day long and create things cutting inside. But for me, Walcott should start. Graham Alexander was born with tired legs. Let Walcott stretch the game from the off and we’ll get the flying start we’re looking for.

  69. it 32 degrees here and its not snowing but hoping for a blizzard of goals tonight . i go 4 -0 arshavin 2 walcott 1 and eddy 1

  70. He was basically doing everything wrong. Misplaced passes or giving the ball to the opposition. Even taking the ball off our players by mistake. Everything he touched turned into an opportunity for Wigan. He actually got subbed off after just coming in. With Boo’s raining on him and his team mates consoling him. Probably the worst day in his professional career as it would be for any other player. Yet, he’s bounced back stronger than ever with some solid performances. Nothing but respect for such a reaction.

  71. yes limpar i agree, I’m watching the carling cup match again, and they are very poor at tracking back, and lack speed, so I think after defending a bit of pressure, we need to counter and score early on, which surely will bring down their confidence

  72. heres a vid actually

    poor guy haha

  73. LA I agree Eboue doesn’t provide the same attacking options as Theo.. but being one of our fastest players he definitely has the pace and the technical qualities for good distribution..

  74. Agreed Limpar I really do hope Walcott gives in a performance to remember. He needs the confidence boost after the long layoff. Maybe even make the world cup?? hahah joking He isnt going anywhere before playing his heart out for his club.

  75. I have a feeling Eboue is going to start today. He’s physical, quick, good crossing ability and is quite skilled. Can’t see wenger not utilising him.

  76. “Traore is out,” said Wenger. “I am down to my fourth choice of left-back, it will be Silvestre [who plays at Burnley]. That’s not good news for Silvestre!

Even Wenger knows that Silvestre’s legs have given out.

  77. that video made me fucking sick of some Arsenal fans. If anyone on here reads this and you booed eboue that day, fuck you, ur a disgrace to the club and shouldn’t be considered an arsenal fan.

    FFS

  78. rather pires.. as previously shown Wenger considers silvestre a cb back up, who can fill in as a left back.. Silvestre is aware of this, as Wenger doesn’t want to disrupt his 1st choice cb partnership..

  79. He will make the world cup alright but only as a spectator.

  80. Frank the Gunner

We will win tonight because sideways Denilson is out and Diaby is back.2-0 Arshavin double

Although i am shitting myself about”i have seen milk turn quicker” Silvestre starting at LB.Lets hope Traore is fit for Villa away

  81. I can’t believe the stick Walcott is getting from some. He sprinted down the middle and frightened Johnson, had he not deiverted the ball to his own net Walcott was there for a tapping. Walcott will come good down the middle it will take a bit of time. He will be top class. Henry was not prolific as 19-20 years old. So i don’t know why people are so negative towards him.

  82. Frank the Gunner, a solid performance from silvestre would shut you up wouldn’t it?

  83. 1LC the stick he gets is unjustified.. but “frightening” or fear factor shouldn’t be the 1st thing on his mind ,as he shows in most interviews.. Messi doesn’t try to scare defenders, he plays his game and fear is the by-product from defenders is the side effect..

  84. Frank the Gunner

I think Fabianski will start tonight.Burn-ley will play lots of High balls into the box and Ab Fab will be better at dealing with them than Al who has looked shaky this season

  85. Its not about giving Walcott stick its more about being realistic. Walcott hasnt yet become what every fan wants him to be. He most probably will but he cant expect to be on the first team automatically. He must work harder. His first game was against the greek champions with a fairly inexperienced squad. Second game against liverpool was even tougher. So you cant judge him on those two showings even though he was solid enough. Today is a better game to judge him in as he can flex his footballing prowess against a weak opposition. Ok before everyone jumps on me I do understand that Burnley isn’t going to be a walk in the park because of all the hype surrounding their home form but c’mon if Wigan can do it i’m sure as hell a half crocked arsenal can do it too.

  86. Oops sorry 1LC. I think he is world class but I doubt he will remain fit for the rest of the season but I hope he does. If he is in one injury after another he wontget to play hence him missing WC. Here is to him staying fit and playing well for us and going to S.A. Salute

  87. is Le Groove like the gunners version of the sun?

  88. kitchen sink- He made that run and made himself available in a very dangerous position that made Johnson nervous otherwise it will not lead to a goal. RVP opens up space drags defender and let others come in that is why Fabregas scored lots of goals, RVP is 26 and took him a bit of time to dapt to his new position so I’m expecting that Walcott will need lots of time to finally become prolfic. You can see Wenger is slowly easing him into that position without putting to much pressure on himand that the right thing to do.

  89. Like what I find funny about Silvestre is that he’s never made huge errors or bad decisions. He’s been doing all the right things and all thats asked of him its just his body can’t keep up with him. Seriously if Silvestre can somehow gain back a yard of pace I think he’d reliably be solid all season.

  90. This is the best team
    Fabianski
    Sagna,gallas,tv5,silvestre
    Diaby,cesc,song
    Dudu,arshavin,nasri
    And 3 points

  91. I’m surprised people are sayin walcot wil make it he is modern day jeffers

  92. 1LC his presence in that goal was crucial.. but as you say he needs more time to reach his potential..

  93. No, Frank the gunner, Almunia will start.

  94. Stranger- “modern day jeffers” as if Jeffers is 100 years old. You are talking absolute tosh. Walcott has a bright future ahead of him he just need to play and play more, people seem to forget he is only 20 and has been playing as a winger since arriving at Arsenal. He played 2 or 3 games as striker one of them against Chelsea in C cup final and scored a brilliant goal. I have no doubt he will come good.

  95. “Even Wenger knows that Silvestre’s legs have given out.”

as if Wenger knows anything about Arsenal players..

  96. PIRESAHOLIC,

Never made errors? Are you joking? How about gifting Drogba a goal in the FA Cup semis and blaming Fabianski for it?

How about the goal he gifted SWP at the Middle Eastlands last week. How about the comical trick of letting the ball bounce on his shoulder, and then having to bring down Adebaywhore?

I can count 15 comical errors made in the less than 15 games he’s played for Arsenal.

  97. Ole gunner you must consider that his 1st season was blighted by injury and the lack of pre-season training..

I won’t claim to be very enthusiastic about him but I won’t overlook that he has also shown himself a different player this season and made some good moments too..

  98. Fuck off shebby_singh@espn.

Unless you have evidence don’t post things like that.

  99. Ole- We can also say that other players have made the same amount of mistakes too. He’s not great but he certainly isn’t a disaster. That was the point I was trying to make.

  100. Seriously shebby. Fuck off.

  101. PIRESAHOLIC,

Gallas and Vermaelen don’t make that many mistakes. Not even Senderos makes as many.

Plus, they’re all much better than him.

What I do like about him to be fair is that he puts his body on the line, and he must be very professional to have a top class career with such limited talent.

  102. Another thing Ole Diaby headed in our own fucking goal FFS and noones giving him as much stick as Silvestre’s been getting. Just because we think he isn’t going to get any better doesnt mean we have the right to write him off.

  103. I’m glad its Wenger who decides who’s good enough..

  104. Trust me I never thought i’d be defending the man but the comments i’m reading help me to think that he deserves better from supporters. He is after all an Arsenal player.

  105. Silvestre over Johnson anyday! LOL

  106. PIRESAHOLIC,

Diaby’s had a lot of stick. But he’s a much better player than Silvestre.

Plus Diaby is a gunner and not a manc.

I don’t rate Silvestre. I never did. He’s yet to have one single brilliant performance in an Arsenal shirt.

I mean, if you come to a top side from one of its rivals, you have to know you need to play brilliantly to win the fans over.

What’s Silvestre done to stop me seeing him in a Man U shirt, as a doped shite cunt, as bad as Neville, Horse Van Nistelrooy or bloody Roy Keane?

  107. Has Silvestre ever had a game-winning or even game-changing performance for us?

Has he ever played well enough to warrant a rating higher than 5.5?

  108. Gunner From Nigeria

If Chris Eagles starts today, Silvestre would need some help from Diaby.
However, we can’t take away the experience he has. It would be valuable in games of this nature.

What’s Silvestre done to stop me seeing him in a Man U shirt, as a doped sh1te coont, as bad as Neville, Horse Van Nistelrooy or bloody Roy Keane?

  110. Ole Gunner Wenger wants him in the Arsenal team, so don’t question him

  111. YW

Almunia; Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen, Silvestre; Diaby, Fabregas, Song; Nasri, Eduardo, Arshavin

A very strong team. its almost like cheating…

  112. shebby_singh@espn

OG, u think corruption especially among the refs do not exist? They earn peanuts compared to the players. Do u think winter or poll are angels? U must also think blair and the cabinet ministers dont use their positions to make money. U need to learn how the world works lad. The Pound note opens doors to places these refs can only dream about.

  113. He did very well against Liverpool in the curling cup. How do you expect a brilliant performance from him if he never plays?Cut the guy some credit OLe G.

  114. Zap,

Well, I didn’t start the topic. To be honest, I hate the guy. Changing from a Man Utd strip to an Arsenal shirt wont change that for me.

I disliked Gallas but he’s won me over with his performances.

Silvestre has been even more crap for us than he was for Man Utd. So, when I see him, I still see him with a vodafone logo on his chest.

Anyway, I take your point, he’s an Arsenal player and I wont slag him too much.

  115. Firstlady,

You’re right. To be fair he’s had a handful of decent games.

For 50 minutes he was brilliant against Money City, and then………

  116. “All I want for Christmas is for Vela, Wlacott, & Eduardo to find their best form.”

    Amen.

    -

Why are you getting so excited shebby_singh@espn?
In Germany this week the football news has all been about some match fixing scandals, that and a little bit on Jens Lehman. Well thats what some German journalist said on the Guardian podcast, maybe you know him?

  117. Kabisa where have you been hiding?

  118. “Has he ever played well enough to warrant a rating higher than 5.5?”

sounding a bit like a calculator..

Amongst other things he did very well against Liverpool in the cc, last season had some good games which warranted starts for his country, made an essential assist to Nas to get us back in a tight game and scored some crucial goals..

whats the opposite of rose-tinted lenses?

  119. shebby_singh@espn ,

Loose allegations are dangerous. Show hard facts if you have them or be quiet.

  120. cool OG. No, I know i think we all see him with the vodafone logo, but now it’s fly emirates, and i think he knows what his role is, as he accepts he is a backup and his glory days are over.

  121. So much anti-support around on the various blogs and comments today. Disappointing stuff.

Three points for the gunners tonight will shut them up for a while….

    Oh wait…. no it won’t.

  122. Those left to right runs by Theo on Sunday were sublime, maybe he has his form and just needs to get some fitness. One thing he obviously has that some Arsenal bloggers don’t, is a ‘football brain’.

Theo cut across the line at full tilt, and I think Johnson’s legs just got confused with delayed signals from his brain as he tried to keep up with Walcott. This England quality football brain then tries to tell it’s legs to stop, but the response time at that speed was just too slow, or maybe Johnson was just trying to catch his breath from the first half.

  123. Zap,

    I missed his glory days.

But in the few games he played before the FA Cup final he actually played well. In the Wigan game he scored, and turned the game. Against Everton he did the same.

    It’s that vodafone logo I can’t get over…..

We need brilliance from him tonight. Good passing, good pace, no errors, good positioning.

If he’s MOTM tonight I’ll give him all credit.

  124. Rob Green fans, another howler for the catalogue last night. Please don’t bullsh*t about Green being a better keepr than Almunia again – it’s just wrong on so many levels.

  125. He also played well vs Liverpool in the carling cup

  126. Fins

Theo like all arsenal players has a reasonable football brain not detracting from Theos contribution but Carragher should have made the clearance, Johnson made a reaction for the ball but like a lot of British players, he has a lot of power on his chocolate leg (seen in his goal of the season last year) but lacked the control and finesse to make his reaction work for his team..

  127. @FL

My apologies got really depressed by the vitriol being posted following the Chelski and Sunderland games.

As its said, we have a league to win, we need the three points.

  128. I don’t think he needs your credit Ole..

  129. Loose allegations are dangerous. Show hard facts if you have them or be quiet.

I can say the same for you on matters concerning Silvestre. The only reason i detest him is because he once played for mancs but lately I really dont give a toss as long as he puts in his shift and plays his part.

  130. If we lose tonight, we don’t deserve the title.

  131. Kitchen Sink,

Damn right he doesn’t. He just needs to play well for Arsenal and not let his younger team mates down.

    Firstlady,

You really do think MS has been good for Arsenal?

  132. Zap a good supporter the other day I’ve forgotten their name none the less he made a good observation saying that “real fans don’t doubt”..

  133. That’s the great thing about it Ole, none of our players need the support of fickle fans, all they need to know is Wenger has faith in them..

  134. When did i doubt

  135. KS,

    We perfectly agree at last.

  136. I think real fans don’t doubt, but i also think real fans are realistic and dont cover up the truth.
I’m extremely supportive of the Arsenal, but i think you have to accept reality instead of being optomistic all the time.

Don’t get me wrong i may have phrased this comment badly but i’m basically saying that as a proper supporter you have to be aware and accept reality, which at the moment is very bright

  137. very bright indeed..

  138. Hey atleast he hasnt committed blunders as big as these…

    http://www.footytube.com/video/borussia-m-gladbach-hannover-96-dec12-29499

I’ll kill him if he does. KILL HIMMMM

  139. I like the fact that ACLFers defend Silvestre. Right attitude.

I just don’t like him or the fact he’s a gunner.

I understand why Arsene got him. It’s really good for example to be able to call on a player with his experience when we have 3 left backs out, and knowing he knows what a game of that level is about.

  140. dreams do come true.. Eboue in Hollywood..

  141. hahahah did u see benayoun hahahah he looks like a poof

  142. You bet your sweet bippie this match is important. It is all about the “W”. A loss or a tie will kill the big “MO” the Gunenrs have built up with since beating Liverpool. Arshavin and Nasri are deadly together. Walcott will come around. He is still not sure after his hammie injury. Players get freaked when coming back from this type of injury. They feel a twinge and then go Oh my God i can’t believe this is happening again. Spam bobby I love the posts. http://bobbygee.wordpress.com/

  143. Way to go garoto!!!

  144. I love that video. Check out Torres off the bench, he looks just like Harpo Marx!

I agree with bobbygee (!), we’ve got to keep the ‘big MO’ (momentum) going.

AW has called for a ‘great performance’ and I think we’re all set to deliver that.

It’s time to break cover and signal our intent with a Wengerball tour de force. If Coyle’s team does as he says and comes out to play, I think we’ll get just that.

  145. sorry, it’s completely irrelevant

  146. Just watched Auckland beat TP Mazembe in the world club cup,,, great worked goal n the final seconds of extra time to give the Kiwis a 3 – 2 victory. Brought a tear to my eye,, Although not a Kiwi my family all reside there and are citizens,, I have been living there on and off for the last ten years when my job allows,,, huge moment for NZ football.

  147. world club cup, the one man u won? I dont get that if it’s the club world cup why aren’t the best clubs in the world competing in it, with all respect to NZealand football.

  148. KS

Good analysis of the Liverpool defenders’ balance for that first goal, and yeah, it should have been cleared. I just don’t understand how someone like that numpty from Online Gooner could get up in a public forum (Arsecast) and say a player of Walcotts quality doesn’t have a football brain. Doh!

“none of our players need the support of fickle fans, all they need to know is Wenger has faith in them..”

Great quote, that has probably been the case over the last few seasons.

  149. Ive often wondered that myself Zap,,, I guess it the clubs that win the champions leagues of their regions, Wonder who Auckland had to beat to get there??

  150. On another note the world cup does not always have the best countries playing in it does it!
But hey! New Zealand are there!

  151. We cannot judge Eduardo and Walcott correctly since they have been injured so regularly. If my memory is correct both of these players were great when they were fit and playing often.

These two will shut many mouths in the near future!

I can see the goal floodgate opening also, starting tonight!

    Have a blessed day!!

  152. Who do you guys want in the draw on friday?

  153. I’d like Stuttgart.

  154. Why Zap are we doing secret Santa?

  155. yep me too, I think they’re the easiest of the lot

  156. CSKA are easy but tricky. Long flights and cold weather.

  157. hmm true, so yeah stuttgart.

Knowing our general luck, we’ll get either AC Milan or Inter.

I think we can beat both though, we can beat anyone from that selection

  158. We can beat anyone in the competition.

  159. If we are still in the title race in the closing month and a half or so, and everyone is fit, we will have a very strong team, especially when rvp returns

  160. The guy’s face is priceless when he realizes he got it wrong. Yoir right yoda the WCC is basically a competition between the winners of each respective continent’s elite football league.

For the draw i’d want Stuttgart or Cska Moscow (even though the prof said he would loathe drawing Cska and going to Russia.)

Teams to avoid: Inter, Bayern, Porto, Lyon and AC Milan

  161. abt 3 hours till k.0

  162. We’d have Porto easily, we slapped them 4-0 easily last season and they don’t even have their star man Lopez anymore.

    hahaha i know pires

  163. the EMirates in the world cup selection of stadiums for 2018. Bloody hell that’s a long time. By then the Emirates will have become a historic stadium, maybe not historic but still….

  164. Please Stuttgart in the draw! I live quite close to Stuttgart so that would be awesome.

  165. I think this could be a great game to unleash Theo down the middle. If anything he’ll make life for Nasri and Arshavin a lot easier by keeping Burnley’s middle very occupied. Another thing. Play Cesc further back and let him spread the ball around. He’ll surely find Theo with an awesome pass one way or the other. Plus our counter attacks would be so dangerous that we’d keep Burnley on the back foot all game long.

  166. What’s important is we get an early goal. Like sunderland, the longer it remains 0-0, the more confident they become, plus it would be nice to score within 15 minutes for the first time this season, something commentators piss me off about. It’s like any small thing and they turn it to make us look like a bad team.

So yeah, an early goal please Arsenal

  167. Barcelona are playing in the club world cup final, the most pointless and stupid competition ever to be introduced. Like i said earlier, why the hell should the winners be considered the best in the world when actually, to achieve this acknowledgment as the best, all they have to do is beat some unheard of team in Asia.

  168. You are already world’s best if you win the CL.

  169. But we scored between the 15th and 20th minutes of most games.

More media nonsense. And I’m surprised it bothers you Zap.

  170. EvilFiek,

How does winning the UCL make you the world’s best?

  171. It doesn’t even necessarily mean you’re Europe’s best.

  172. Because all the best teams play in Europe. While, especially South American teams, sometimes have great players, all in all, the world’s best teams are in Europe. So if you’ve already won the CL, you are the world’s best team. The club world cup is just something to make it “official”.

  173. It doesn’t bother me, O.G. Just making my point we need to score early or at least in the 1st half mate. I think this game could turn out like sunderland if we don’t capitalize on early chances, because like the sunderland, burnely will have good support, so we need to shut them up quickly

  174. It makes sense that the winner of the WCC is the best in the world.

  175. We might as well say that the winner of the EPL is the best team in the world. Since it’s the strongest league in the world.

    Why have a Champions League?

  176. The WCC is being held in Abu Dhabi. I used to live there. Been in that stadium a few times. The feeling of nostalgia is overwhelming me while im watching this game.

  177. @Ole
Spain and Italy have both won the CL more often than British clubs…

  178. Does that mean the EPL isn’t the strongest league in the world?

By the way, the stats are Spain 12, England and Italy tied at 11. Considering English clubs were banned for 5 years, that’s not bad at all.

  179. In any case, my point still stands, If Spain (or Italy) is the strongest league, why do we need a Champions League? let’s just say the winner of La Liga is the best in Europe and the world?

    just inverting your logic.

  180. Interestingly, only 2 Spanish clubs have won it, 3 Italian whilst 4 English clubs have. As for runners-up, 4 Spanish teams have failed, 6 Italian and 5 English.

    YW

  181. How do you judge whether a League is stronger?

    More money: EPL
Better technical players: Serie A / La Liga
More competitive: Who knows and how do you compare whether or not the Spanish 10th placed team are better than their English or Italian counterparts?

It’s very subjective at the best of times.

    YW

  182. I go to U.A.E all the time to see family, and i hate the way they think theyre gonna take over football with their money

  183. So you take for example Atletico Bilbao and let them play Wigan. Bilbao would win

  184. EPL: Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City

Serie A: AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus

    La Liga: Barca, Madrid

there are more teams here that can win the league, unlike the other countries

  185. Very true YW.

I think most people think the EPL is strongest. It also happens to be my personal view.

I think La Liga has more technical players but not Serie A.

I also actually think La Liga is more competitive but only in the sense that any team in the league can trash Real Madrid and Barcelona.

All said, I might be biased but I do love English football. Despite the mad pundits, crap referees and managers who cave to Ferguson.

In the end it’s our passion that wins it. Passion, and emotion is what football boils down to.

  186. yep i agree OG.

I think the pace of the P.L is very watchable if you know what i mean.

Watching a serie a match is very, very boring

  187. Zap,

I detest Serie A. It’s so cynical. No atmosphere, yet they have hooligans.

The games are so slow….and whereas they had mastery over the tactical side of the game….much of that gap has been eroded.

  188. I love Arsenal , but as far as other EPL teams go I just cant really enjoy watching to many others. Id rather watch a La Liga game,, Valencia vs sevilla over manu chelsea any day !
Watching the likes of rooney and cashky cole makes me feel ill…

  189. i think the EPL is the strongest for a couple of reasons

1st the top 4 in the EPL are better than the “top sides” in Spain and Italy, as ZAP said in Spain, its Barca and Real, Italy AC/Inter and he’s being generous with Juve in there.

2nd – the 5-8 teams in the EPL are superior to even the 3rd/4th place teams of La Liga/Serie A let alone the rest of the table.

all 3 leagues have big sides, but its teams like Aston Villa, Man City, Spurs (unfortunately) who are superior to the 5-8 place teams in those leagues and could give the lesser of the big clubs in those leagues a run (Roma, Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla) etc…

  190. change superior to comparable in that last post

  191. Serie A is a load of crap,,, Id rather watch Bafana Bafana play Botswana,,

  192. OG @ 5:29

i agree, i have a hard time even staying focused by the Milan derby matches.. so SLOW

    Yoda @5:30

i completely disagree, if i have some free time and theres anotehr EPL match on, ill at least pay attention and give it a few glances, cant say that for any match in La Liga outside of the big clubs, and forget comparing Serie A

  193. Perhaps villa I might watch,, Not too many others..

  194. thats what i mean… would you sit through a atalanta vs bologna match? or athletic bilbao vs espanyol? doubtful

  195. I hope we score at least six am getting quite sick of worrying about these gobby northern types evrything we trvel in the winter.Just our luck it snows today. P.S I also remember Eduardo against Everton the year we should of won it….down 1-0 halftime Eddy got us bac into the match my two as the commentator claimed clinical strikers of the highest order.

  196. Id probably not watch any of them,, !

  197. http://www.arsenal.com/match/report/0910/pre/reserves/arsenal-res-v-crewe?tab=preview

hope they win aswell, it was very enjoyable going to the emirates for the youth cup final 1st leg

  198. neither would I NJ! The only italian team i can bear to watch is probably AS Roma

  199. Due to my current location I get latin american sattelite, lots more la liga games shown that EPL,,, I do watch a fair bit of it and generally I do enjoy watching some of the lower placed teams play,, in la liga,,,
Very happy that today they are showing the arsenal match!!!

  200. When did players with good technique start to be called “technical players?” Is this a result of Wenger’s strangely poor command of English, or is it a bastardization of the language used throughout English football?

  201. what channel is that Yoda?

  202. One of the sports channels not sure exactly what number it is,,, Ill go have a look,, hold that thought..

  203. 651 fswe,,, showing the arsenal game @ 3:30 pm

  204. Myp2pfootball is the place to go if you need an internet stream

  205. Big games from Theo, Diaby, and Eddy today,, can just feel it!

  206. ill keep that in mind zap… is that pretty consistent in having a good stream??

  207. THanks Ill make a note of that for next time they dont show the match,,, my chick getting shitty with me for blogging,,, Its a hangover day today and Im wanted in the bedroom,,, till 3:30 at least !
    The its gooooooooo Gunners….

  208. im with you polizano… is there a set definition of a “technical player”

  209. yeah, it’s quite good….they don’t seem to be working right now, hopefully a few minutes b4 the game they will work

  210. What is the proper term, Poliziano?

There has to be some way to distinguish players like Samir Nasri from an Andre Bikey type bruiser who really has no technical ability.

  211. Premier league is just so damn fun to watch. When newly promoted teams are giving you a run for your money you know your in a tough league. I dont know about the state of Serie A today but I used to watch it prior to calciopoli, when juve were dominating and had that wonderful champs legue run with the brilliant Nedved. Back then Serie A was quality. So you’ve been there eh Zap? I lived there for 17 years. I miss it like hell.

  212. Hey where’s my avatar? I finally set up an account and my stupid avatar isn’t showing up. Rats.

  213. Will my p2p work on a Macbook? Do i have to download something? Or does it stream directly??

  214. Frank, is this the best Arsenal squad you’ve ever seen?

  215. I use it on my my Mac. I’ve found that the veetle player on Iraq Goals works the best. It’s just a simple download.

  216. the English premier league is certainly head and shoulders above the rest

  217. Heaven knows what “technically-gifted” means as well.

    As for technical ability….
    http://www.unssc.org/web/programmes/OP/smn/SMS%20Competency%206/SMS%20Competency%206-545.htm

  218. Does anybody know when the highlights will be posted tonight? I’ve got my bloody Christmas party. Feeling very Scroogey about the whole thing and have been frantically searching for a tiny radio I thought I had. I’ll be flying blind on this one. Come on the boys. ARSENAL!

  219. ATVO says this “Watch highlights of EVERY Arsenal match – including Pre-season, Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup matches. Highlights from all league games are available from midnight the day of the match.”

  220. We can see you nasirjonesnasri.

  258. Wow, we are crushing them. Another close chance. Wtf? Did Burnley even turn up?

  259. The first ten minutes we played like champions.

  260. any working links for the match?

  261. We should pile them on now…don’t let them get their feet.

  262. Well, according to Sky, the goal was against the run of play. Was it?

  263. Where was Almunia on that free kick?

  264. almunia needs to fucking learn to read the flight of the fucking ball.

  265. Almunia ~_~ Either you run out and punch the ball away or you stay on the line. You don’t run “half the way” and then wait.

  266. Arshavin off the post!!!

  267. Shava hits the post !

  268. Post denies Arshavin..

  269. Sagna shooting from long range,, I love it!

  270. goal for Walcot today !! come on..

  271. Walcott has been anonymous .. he needs to get inot the game more …

  286. FFS. I knew they would score tonight

  287. f*ck this. they will regret scoring against us.

    come on Arsenal.

  288. Theo’s been invisible. Bring on Eboue or Ramsey in the 2nd half

  289. Another pass to the opposition, Silvestre has looked good today.

  290. What a good game this is turning out to be.
    Fab is running things.
    Relax we are making chances.

  291. relax? I hate that f*cking annoying we are Burnley chant

  292. You lot sound like Chicken Little. The game is not even half over yet and it’s all hands overboard.

    FFS!

  293. most important thing is we don’t concede again

  294. This is a truly pivotal game for our season. lose and i dont think we can win the EPL.

  295. 1-1 at half time, 2nd half we will be revitalised

  296. that’s if it is 1-1

  297. That was a dive.

  298. Oh dear upwards and onwards!!

  299. A lot of fainthearts on here tonight.

Have you never experienced a challenge for the premiership before?

It’s ALWAYS like this. You never just stroll to the title.

    Cut and thrust.

  300. Zap please, eh?

  301. Great Fab is done it looks like.

  302. Fuck. Cesc is injured

  303. agreed axis zap is behaving like a 8 year old girl

  304. Fab looks bummed.

  305. What happened to Cesc?

  306. Jay Thomas on the bench, is he?

  307. My link was coming and going so I didn’t see Cesc get injured. Does anyone have any idea what happened to him? Did he do his hamstring?

  308. cant see wat the injury to cesc was

  309. Wow Cesc is out fuckin hell we need to dominate possession stop this gay ass going to the corner over lapping bullshit we need to switch it up abit

  310. Yeah i think it was the hammy, he was limping

  311. According to ATVO, Fabregas had a tight thigh before the game.

  312. Its alright Ramsey will pull through

  313. ‘A coward dies a thousand deaths….’

  314. Gunner From Nigeria

We have to dig deep to get a result tonight.
    Walcott should please wake up.

  315. VELA OR EDU FOR WALCOTT PLEASE

  316. The presenter on Arsenal TV says he thinks Fabregas is off in the summer. Wonder the source of the Cesc stories in the tabloids?

  317. Thanks guys.

  318. why would a presenter on Arsenal TV say that!? does he have some inside info.

  319. No, he said specifically that he had no info. In which case, why say it?

  320. Thats idiotic, Arsenal fans trying to enjoy the match and he says that!

  321. walcott is not going to south africa.

  322. Playing well. Theo needs a break.

  323. he shouldve put his foot through that!

  324. Seriously why is walcot still on?

  325. theo has had a long enough break.

  326. WALCOTT MISS IMPOSSIBLE GET OKF

  327. OOU, that was a break wasnt it?

  328. Get f*cking Walcott out of the game…he’s poor monkey piss. He needs play time but we are not winning…how long does any one need to see he’s crap?

  329. By that, he needs something to go right so he can get his confidence back.

    Phew, that was close.

    Come on Arsenal!

  330. We are always a little slow after a big win.

  331. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Diaby is class. I missed him.

  332. Nice one G4E! There’s no need to go Muppet on us yet, though.

  333. Hate to say this, but Arsenal are looking tired, de-motivated and bereft off ideas and pace :(
Almunia seems intimidated and Walcott severely lacking in match sharpness.
Can anyone see Arsenal win this ?

  334. We’ve been good, but Burnley is a formidable away game. A draw wouldn’t be a disaster, but I think we’ll win anyway.

  335. We are playing so shit im gonna speww!

  336. Gavin, are you a spud? I always see Arsenal winning until proven otherwise, i.e. the whistle blows are we are not ahead.

  337. Pardon, G4E?

  338. it’s like we are playing Barca out there

  339. I think we get too emotionally high after a big win.

  340. we will win, I agree!

  341. Gris : I’d like nothing more than to see Arsenal win.
For me, this win is more crucial than the one at Liverpool.

  342. We are second best at the moment bye a country mile.

  343. LOL G4E @ 9:12pm, I am cracking up. Good one!

  344. Be extremely luck to get a draw!

  345. offside goal.
Almunia shows his worth again !

  346. Come on Arsenal!

  347. Wow that was a let off.

  348. this is a nightmare game, what is going on? I’ll take a draw the way things are at moment.

  349. Paul : He missed a simple cross and Fletcher had it in the net

  350. I saw it!

  351. If Fabregas is missing for the next few games, we’re in trouble. The team looks really poor without him !

  352. The only good news so far is chelsea is 1-1 with Portsmouth. I’m really nervous about this game we don’t look good at all. all over the place there is no cohesion at all.

  353. I can’t see that game staying like that, GG.
    Chelsea are totally dominating Pompey.

  354. Chelsea drawing now, we mustn’t let a chance like this go. Toure and Ade are both playing absymally in the City – Spuds game, further proof that Wenger’s remarkably astute at knowing when to let players go. City look better for putting Santa Cruz in for Robinho but I can’t see them clawing back two.

  355. Wow, we looked so good in the first 20 or so minutes. What happened to us? But still…if Chelsea draw I think a draw will be fine. But still, if we win that would be a good chance to gain even more points on the chavs..

  356. any ball into the box and everyone panics.

  357. That was poor goalkeeping.
We cant even get 2 passes together at the moment, Ill take a draw right now..

  358. Oh for chrissake, stop whinging.

It’s a battle. You will have casualties. Things will not go according to plan.

    That’s why it’s a challenge.

  359. we will win!

  360. By the look of the game we will win this match. This would be funny.

Come on Dudu. Come on Arsenal.

  361. Eduardo looks even less match fit than Walcott did..

  362. how’s Ramsey playing?

  363. Chelsea 2 up shit

  364. he’s not getting much possession

  365. We are been made to look rather silly out there right now,,,

  366. Damn just a little too much for Dudu.

  367. we do look like the promoted team at moment

  368. we cannot give back the point we gained!

  369. Sagna kicks the ball away!

  370. We were fucking lucky to get a draw,,,,

  371. dissapointing draw.

  372. We should’ve won this game in the first 15 minutes

  373. Look. Stop. We will not win every match. That is true even if we had no injuries. Burnley are a good side with a good manager.

    Nothing is easy.

  374. All over. 2 points dropped or one gained?

  375. Not a bad result. We’ll get back on track against Hull on the weekend.

There’s a long, long way to go.

  376. I dont know why but when we win a big game we dont seem to able to follow it up with a good display.

  377. This game should have been 4-0 in the first 20 minutes.

  378. WALCOTT AND EDS both have lost it, EDs just has no speed like he used to Almunia was dodgy again

  379. it was hard fought point. Fair result but we should’ve finished them off in the first half. My main concern now Fabregas. I hope its not too seriuos

  380. Very very frustrating considering we should have been 2 or 3 nil up in the 1st 15 minutes. The forward play from Walcott and Eduardo was not quite sharp enough, otherwise we should have scored in the last 20 minutes.

  381. We’re back to 3rd.

  382. FRANK DO YOU THINK WE CAN WIN EPL IF CESC INJURY IS MORE THAN 2 WEEKS

  383. Points dropped all over Lancashire through clumsy Arsenal hands.

  384. This team can be together for 100 years but still can’t win anything. He thought recruiting foreign average players was the way to go now he’s been found out.

Rosicky, Eduardo, Nasri, Denilson, Diaby, Almunia, Eboue and Sylvestre are all not fit to wear the Arsenal shirt.

Bye bye Fabregas to Barca next summer. Sack Wenger and make Bouldy the new manager.

    Arsene Wenger is finished.

There are too many weak foreign players in the Arsenal team.

  385. The players have not lost anything, they are not match ready yet. They need time as you do with anything you do when you havent been doing it regularly.

    ARSENAL!!!

  386. No time to feel sorry for ourselves. bring on Hull at the weekend.

  387. Fuck off, Howard.

  388. MOPPET you always were funny but that statement that they were not sharp enough is beyond flattering

  389. 1 gained SD. Silvestre handballed it in the box, they should’ve had a penalty. I’m actually quite happy, i mean we did play allright against a team with possibly the best support in the EPL.

And what the fuck was Gallas doing with the header on goal, bloody hell. If that was eduardo the players would be coming back with 3 points.

  390. f*ck off Howard.

  391. It’s the courtesy point for the new PL comers…at least we didn’t have to give the 3 points.

I know people will think I’m crazy but we didn’t really want to win this game.

  392. Agree with PaulN. Walcott and Eduardo have lost confidence, not ability.

  393. Henry’s Foot, MOVE! yu likkle blow wow yu!

  394. And fock Off Howard.

  395. The foreign mercenaries don’t care; they have no desire.

  396. Nobody on here gives a shit what you think, Howard. Why don’t you take it somewhere else?

  397. OK, let’s look at the league. we’re now 8 points off Chelsea, with a game in hand. Chelski lose once more, which they will and we win our game in hand, we’re 2 points off. Amazing how one weekend can change everything. (or weeknight)

  398. When was the last time any of our players has had a one on one with the keeper lately? We’re playing out wide and totally allowing the opposition defense to create a barrier around our offense. It becomes hard to score when they have ten back and we try to pass it around our area. Especially since we don’t have a player to score off a cross.

  399. We will bounce back.

    I love our team.

  400. Im gutted, we were on a high so this feels terrible.
We will still win the PL though!!!

  401. Fuck off Howard.

A hard fought game and a fair result. Burnley beat the mancs when they played them so at least we got 1 point.

Some of you seem to forget that other teams have a right to play well.

  402. We missed Bendtner tonight. I mean i am certain he would have headed one of those corners in. It’s a strange feeling not being confident at all when you get a corner.

  403. Like all arsenal fans, I am disappointed that we didn’t win. Unlike many here tonght I do not think it is the end of the world or our title challenge,

    Disappointing display on ACLF.

In 1971, we won the double and lost 5-0 to stoke.

  404. Arsenal and his band of non-performers should get off our back now, they’re losers.

  405. Mr. Bob, you know we always have those who go over the top, its to be expected no?

  406. the media will start slating us again, so it’s basically normal service restored from that point of view. Really, one weekend will change absolutely everything,

    We Love you Arsenal

  407. It’s far from being the end of the world. But we do need to be amassing points now.

  408. This is the same Burnley that beat United mind you.

    So this is Howard huh?

  409. henry’s foot just piss off, like you have any impact on anything

  410. THEY are not your team, so why bother howard.

    Just piss off.

    Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaaaaal, A R S E N A L.

  411. We could’ve lost 3-1, eagles hit the post, they should’ve had a second penalty- on the other hand we could’ve won 3-1, if Arshavin scored in the 1st half when it hit the post and Gallas’s great chance at the death.

fair result, but let’s hope Cesc’s injury isn’t that bad that’s all im worrying about

  412. Howard, why don’t you stick Henry’s Foot up your useless whining arse.

  413. I hate to see the Spuds winning but the look on Hughes face is Priceless :) the end is near Hughes, the end is near sh*t face.

  414. We probably get too carried away when we win big games.
On balance tonight we did ok tonight. Should have scored a least another goal, early on. I’m a bit worried about Eduardo & Walcott alright. They looked short of confidence. Maybe Vela should have come on instead of Eduardo, (easy to say afterwards!).
Main thing is that we beat Hull at the wend, & that Cesc’s injury is only short-term.

  415. ARSENAL!ARSENAL!ARSENAL!

    Expected? Yes, Paul.

    Unchallenged? No.

  416. I hear you Mr. Bob!

Can we stop having blasted injuries now? messes up the blinkin flow man!

    ARSENAL!!!!!

  417. I’m beginning to lose respect for Howard.

  418. Two away games within 3 days: 4 points.

Manure: 2 home games, 1 lost, 1 won against Wolves who fielded their reserves: 3 points

Chelsea: 2 home games: 4 points

Liverpool: 2 home games, 1 lost, 1 won: 3 points

  419. No Paul N, I don’t expect people who call themselves supporters of The Arsenal to go over the top when the team draw a match away to a team that beat manure. I expect, if people are passionate about Arsenal, for them to vent privately and then come on here and actually post something intelligent rather than little sentences like “ We are playing so shit im gonna speww! and stupid comments like “ FRANK DO YOU THINK WE CAN WIN EPL IF CESC INJURY IS MORE THAN 2 WEEKS .

For chrissake, this is a season, not a one match playoff for the title. Last I checked the season still had many months to run.

  420. notlager: good points!

  421. Gris Gris, I dont either but the clowns always come out after a loss, so I am not dissapointed by those folk, anymore atleast.

Though I did tell Howard to move him blow wow!

  422. there are no excuses on this one because we see the same kind of weaknesses every other week. someone needs to get a fresh perspective and figure out what we need to win games like this. We are treading muddy water in 4th place and I’m wondering if I even have the consolation of enjoying watching all of our games now.

What we are doing when struggling to break through is really not that intelligent at the moment. wengers delighfully smug face after the liverpool game looks pretty silly now in hindsight.

  423. consolbob @ 9:52

    masterful understatement…

  424. I mean expect as far as you know it will happen not as far as me agreeing them and thieir foolishness.

  425. good result..point gained..should have lost..played rubbish for 80mins..

cesc is a big loss..AA missed him..

theo?? oh dear oh dear.. 4th game on the trot..match fitness or pure shitness?? think the latter applies..back to the reserves for you sunshine

almunia..hes lost it and he aint getting it back..time for fabianski to get a run..that was a poor pefrormance..4 kicks straight into touch, beat at the near post only saved by the woodwork..and the dissallowed goal?? oh dear..lucky boy..

still 5 points off if we win the game in hand but we wont win anymore games if we play like that..

time to regroup. re-think and go on a winning streak of birminghams quality…

  426. Win vs Hull is vital, but the following match vs Aston Villa is monumental. Of course we can win the title, Chelsea will drop points, ManU will certainly drop points….As long as we keep going, win the big matches and be confident, we can win the League

  427. word,

    we’re 3rd.

Who gives a f*ck wether you’re going to watch any Arsenal games in the future. Spare us with your self-pity.

  428. Fuck off to Le Grove JonJon.

  429. Not a bad result really. Burnley are a good team, especially at home where thay have a very good record.
I don’t know what planet some of the people on this site are on. We are not just going to turn up and stroll vergy game because we are Arsenal.
It’s a fight all the way!

  430. Chelsea’s next few fixtures:
    West ham away
    Birmingham away
    Fulham home
(month without drogba or essien starts here)
    Hull away
    Sunderland home
    Birmingham home
    Burnley away

  431. muppet seriously you need to pack this bad fan good fan bollox right in..

you know i dont post on LG so whats the point…

i say it as i see it and i didnt see anyone saying wenger should f@ck off to LG when he told the players they didnt deserve to wear the shirt???

give it a rest its getting boring…

i said it was a good result.. what more do you want?

i aint going to lie about theo..wenger subbed him..and it wasnt cos he was tired was it??? he didnt do anything all game..

  432. Chelsea will drop points.

  433. You are a hater JonJon. You and your like are responsible for bad support on match day.

  434. i would say you were the hater muppet..u cant even agree with your manager on certain things..only when it suits you..

anyway i dont want to get involved with you..say what you want..not bothered..you dont even know me..

  435. Irrespective of how good Burnley played or where they are, it’s a game we should have won.

They were there to be exploited but the Gunners lacked people to make things happen. Arshavin, Fabregas and Song were good, Nasri tired to get more involved in the second half but in doing so conceded the wing. If Cesc is out, Nasri should be the one who replaces him.

But the key was, Burnley pressured well rather than physical. The side was nervous, anxious and at times lacked concentration. The support to Arshavin dwindled and ultimately paid the price.

Disappointing but I suppose it has to be chin up although that can’t be the maxim for title challengers all the time.

  436. the keepers a definate situation that needs assessing..and quickly..

  437. Fuck off JonJon you tosser.

  438. good post brain

id like to add that we were lazy and didnt look like we wanted it…if we wanted it we would have won..but we didnt and we got outplayed..by burnley..for almost the entire match…

we were lucky to draw in the end…

  439. ok muppet..thanks..

lets hope we never meet eachother eh??

  440. lazy, jonjon, that’s the exact description of how your brain works.

  441. jon jon has my condolences. it seems a number of the ‘good fan’ commenters here would really rather just all hold hands and sing happy songs about beautiful arsenal. clearly these are the kind of guys we need on match day.

say it as you see it approach is far more practical. I really dont want to be the guy on here saying ‘actually statisticly burnley have a very good home record…’

At the end of the day arsenal are a team ‘in transition’, we are not quite there yet. I for one would like to have a say on how we do adapt and evolve as a team. whether anyone agrees or not its how i see it. covering up losses like this is just sticking your head in the sand.

  442. very good n*tlager…
    truly amazing..wow,thanks..real eye opener mate..

hats off to burnley, they deserved not to lose…they put in a good shift, won all the 50-50s and we couldnt match them..we were lazy..

  443. good point word

we seem to be in transition..i really thought this year we would kick on but it seems the lessons of last year havent been learned..

we started off on fire..but i beleive that was down to work rate more than anything…that work rate seems to have dwindled slightly and we are starting to stutter against the teams who put in ‘ a shift’

i think wenger needs to remind the players that we need to earn the right to play wengerball first..it wont just happen..teams wont allow it…he needs to show the players videos of the games against the teams we played at the start of the season and urge them to up their workrate again…

tonight was a typical example…no workrate, no wengerball, no 3 points..

but plenty of time to turn it round…were not out of it yet..

  444. Just got back from watching the game at the Emirates. After the first 15 mins we were lucky to get a draw. The wrongly disallowed and the Silvestre hand ball in the box were strokes of luck for us. Almunia is shit.He is giving Gallas and TV kittens and why the fuck does he keep kicking the ball into touch.Fabianski to start on saturday
As for Walcott the time has come for us to be honest about him.He aint that good. He’s going to the world cup alright………..as a tourist

  445. That’s the whole problem with you, jonjon.

You write: we were lazy and didnt look like we wanted it.

On what basis? You can label people you’ve never met lazy and arrogant and if people do the same to you you cry: but you don’t know me.

Are you so daft to comprehend?

  446. Silvestre turned in the worst performance of defending since Stephanovs left
Why would Sir Alex sell us a player if he was any good?
Definateley a double agent for Man Utd

  447. spot on TJ..

gallas body language is of a defender who has no faith in his GK…when that happens its time to change keepers cos the GK defence partnership is one of the most important on the pitch…and when Almunia plays, the absence of that partnership is obvious…

  448. Almunia is a poor keeper who is not in the top ten keepers in the country,As well as a striker in january we need a keeper because this clown is making TV and Gallas look poor.Almunia just doesnt inspire confidence

Walcott had another shocker at the moment he is pace and nothing else.Cant see he starting on saturday,Eboue will start in front of him

  449. keep it to footy n*tlager..

stops you from making a fool of yourself with comments that make no sense…

  450. you are daft jonjon. and a waste of time.

  451. eboue is better than theo..he can play wengerball better and sagna always plays better with eboue cos theos one lazy overpaid boy…

and i dont even rate eboue either..but at least he puts in a shift…

    lennon cos the spuds 1million…
    theo cost us 12…

theres many things that we laugh at the spuds for but they beat us hands down in that department…

  452. What has happened to Eduardo he looks lost?

  453. like theo,n*tlager…

hes a waste of time and money..

  454. lack of confidence i think,get into them…

  455. The Arsenal MOTM was Gallas and that sums us up tonight.
We saw what we all know about Silvestre he is not just shite he is shite with no pace
Walcott is not go enough. He does nothing.

We cannot keep relying on Cesc and AA23 to get us out of jail

  456. IS IT ANY WONDER WE WERE SHIT TONIGHT WHEN WE WERE PLAYING IN THE SPURS KIT.

  457. Dissapointing but a point gained all the same. Every point counts in the end. Anyway the champions Man U also known by the press as the best thing since sliced bread lost on the same ground. I doubt that this will be reflected in the papers tommorrow. Just the usual crap that Arsenal are apparently “weak, lack physical prescence, goals, title credentials”…Yawn!

You can be sure if Man U drew the press would be extoling the virtues of Man U’s valiant never say die attitude and refusal to concede the game to the oppositon and mark of championship quality by drawing a tough away game.

  458. Eight points away from first place Chelsea with a game in hand. And not even half the season has gone by. Not bad at all.

  459. if we had drawn against Burnley @ the emirates i think it definitely wouldve been something of REAL concern..

2 away games in 4 days thats tough on any team especially after how draining Liverpool surely was for the squad.

Jon Jon, in the same way that the English media and pundits/hacks make overly definitive statements about the title race being over in december you discuss our team. a team in “transition”?? get real man. also your raw hatred of walcott is tired. third epl start of the season, first one he was taken off in the 33rd. try and stop revealing your lack of intelligence with your extremely short sighted comments

  460. This is a team growing up in front of our eyes. A lot of commentators on this site expect instant champions, as if you could just put water on them and they spring to life. Belief doesn’t come easy in football, no matter what anyone says. It takes a complete team working in the same direction. The commentary on FSC was it’s usual shite but one of the knobs made a good comment about how Burnley is greater than the sum of its parts. No one of great, individual talent but somehow they all play together and that makes them better. This is what Arsene is trying for, what we have seen in fits and spurts this year, and what makes champions. Burnley’s big problem is that they are mostly shite players so when they play as a team they are barely PL class. We know what happens when The Arsenal play together, they put 6 past Everton with ease.

It’s not even 2010 yet and some idiots want to write Arsenal off. We sit 5 points behind the front runners once the game in hand is won. No one takes us seriously and the team seems to be struggling a bit with injuries and form. Once they are through this patch, and stronger for it, once the belief comes back and the goals go in, there will be no stopping us.

    We are THE ARSENAL

  461. Hear hear, Gris Gris.

  462. BORING!!!!!!!!!!!

Did’nt get to watchthe match so was looking for updates on ACLF and from the way some people we talking I thought we had an horrendous game. I have since had a catch to watch the full game and from what I could see we battled hard should of won it early on were unlikely (Andery hitting the post) but didn’t fold and came away with an well earned point.

    COYGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    A R S E N A L T I L L I D I E

(Don’t you just know that slimy old AIC will be on tomorrow)

  463. I thought we should have won this game, Burnley actually came out to play football instead of the usual stoke business.

  464. Burnley hit the woodwork twice and had a good goal disallowed.Burnley were well worth the draw

But the performance again of Walcott should send alarm bells ringing at the club.He was poor again.I am no big fan of Eboue but he has to be a better option than the ineffective Walcott who just runs down blind alleys and his final ball is non existent

Our best player by a mile last night Gallas

  465. Barcelona had a 12 point lead on Real Madrid last season and RM still caught up towards the end of the season but lost the head to head. We need to make sure we get as close to the leaders as possible before February crunch time. Hull up next we need to stay focused and cant keep dwelling on what happened. We move on to what’s in our hands.

  466. If Silvestre is better than Senderos how bad does that make Swiss Phil?
And Wenger wants to give him a new contract!!!!!!!!

  467. ZAP AND HIS FELLOW BOYS ARE SO OBSESSED WITH CHELSEA.

U GUYS ARE ALL PRAYING FOR CHELSEA TO DROP POINTS INSTEAD OF CONCENTRATING YOUR ENERGY IN ASKING HELP FROM SOME MAN IN THE SKY ABOUT CONSISTENCY FOR YOUR TEAM.

WHAT GOOD IS IT ,IF AND WHEN CHELSEA DROP POINTS AND YOU LADS,DON’T TAKE ADVANTAGE.

WE DROPPED POINTS AGAINST EVERTON,WON AGAINST PORTSMOUTH WHILE U WON AGAINST LOOSERPOOL AND DREW AGAINST BURNLEY.

YOU WON AT LOOSERPOOL AND LE PROFESSEUR WENGUS STARTED BRAGGING ABOUT WINNING THE LEAGUE(lol)..BESIDES EVERYBODY BEATS LOOSERPOOL THESE DAY..EVEN IF CHELSEA DROP 10 POINTS ,LE ARSE WILL WIN NOTHING WITH KIDS..

.MAYBE MANURE OR ASTON VILLA BUT NEVER LE ARSE…I ALSO HEAR FABREGAS IS INJURED(POOR LAD,HE NEVER GETS A BREAK).

..I ALSO HEAR ASTON VILLA IS GUNNING FOR A CHAMPION’S LEAGUE PLACE AND MARTIN O’NEIL HAS GOT SOME PLANS FOR U GUYS IN TWO WEEKS TIME..

.WELL,WELL,WELL…U GUYS SHOULD THANK UR LUCKY STARS TODAY ANYWAY…BURNLEY WERE CHEATED BY A STUPID REF, WHO DISALLOWED A GENUINE GOAL AND A CLEAR CUT PENALTY.

.BESIDES THEY HIT THE BAR ABOUT TWICE WHILE VERMINATUS DID HIS BEST OWN-GOAL- SCORING-HERO ROUTINE ONLY TO HIT THE BAR..

MY INFORMANTS TELL ME BARCA ARE COMING ALL GUNS BLAZING FOR FABREGAS…WELL.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT,LE ARSE OWES US THREE POINTS WHEN THEY COME TO THE BRIDGE.

    UR BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER…..

  468. A bit of the pot calling the kettle black hey Dave. For someone who thinks Arsenal bloggers on this site are obsessed with Chelsea you are right up Arsenals crack Dave. We couldn”t give a shite about your crap team.Without Drogba and JT you might as well be Bolton in disguise. why woul you bother positng your crap if you werent worried about Chelsea dropping points

You have been waiting patiently to drop your lines once Arsenals dropped points. Who is watching who? Have you seen any of us posting on your Chelsea blogs. Worry about your own team mate. They are not going to be on top for ever.

  469. I am not too worried about Cesc’s injury if it’s not long-term. If he doesn’t miss more than a couple of matches.

If he does, then I’m quite worried.

  470. WITH ALMUNIA IN GOAL WE WILL NOT WIN EPL THIS SEASON

  471. Dave- Thanks for the info on Arsenal I’m surprised how much you know, please let us know if you have anymore as you seem quite knowledgeable about Arsenal . You are obviously not bothered about us.
Retirement is beckoning for your overpaid overfed fatcats. Make the most of it while you can

  472. Denilson’s mum, and Diaby’s dad must be doing a jig right now.

Almunia is the scape goat de jour.

  473. Are Dave and SOL the same person?

‘Capslock ‘ Dave and he certainly seem to share a certain style and a love/hate thing with our team.

  474. oh no Dave is back.

  475. Am I Dave’s best friend?!

  476. You only just won……against portsmouth…….at home……in front of your own fans.

  477. FFS why won’t people just ignore the wind-up?

  478. I didnt watch the game but from the sound of things a draw was not too bad an outcome for us.

I see the D&Gs are out in droves.

  479. Zap they won from a penalty and if I ever saw a dive, Ivanovic’s was one.

  480. Firstlady,

We could have been 4-0 up in the first 15 minutes. We had 3 separate 1-on-1s with the keeper… Arshavin, Nasri & Fabregas.

For me we should have won.

It’s not like Burnley scored first and then we had to scramble a late goal.

We could have been out of sight, and then we stopped creating.

  481. Silvestre was poo again last night by the way. But he’s our 4th choice left back, and that’s just about where he fits in I suppose.

  482. Well, Hull is the game to win now, it would be title hopes over if we don’t beat a weak side at home. Without Bullard they are easily beaten. Does anyone else think maybe we should play 4-4-2 when we are being pressurized so much, for example yesterday when we weren.t allowed to play our flowing football.

Hull is a huge game, and without cesc out it’s that bit harder….Come on the Arsenal.

My team against hull, provided we don’t pick up any injuries….easier said than done right now,

    almunia-he needs a big game.
    sagna gallas vermaelen silvestre
    song diaby nasri
    eboue arshavin eduardo

  483. Fuck Celtic
    F*cking hypocrites

  484. bloody hell i just saw cesc’s 1 on 1, my satelite went for a few mins last night and i missed it, what a chance that was…..

  485. I would consider playing 4-4-2. We need Eduardo, Vela and Walcott to find form. So far, to me, they look more likely to score in a 4-4-2.

  486. yep. I think theo should come off the bench. His electrifying pace is so much more useful when up against tired legs

  487. Don’t concern yourselves with Dave from chelsea. He’s lonely, that’s all.

We missed the match last night and Mrs. ZimPaul was not wearing her foolproof Arsenal mits. Sorry everybody!

From what I read Burnley performed very well after a torrent of early pressure. If so, nothing to say except well done Burnley. Whoever said earlier we are witnessing a team grow up before our very eyes could not have put it better. They fall, they get up. Enjoy it while you can, in no time our lads will be all grown up.

Sounds like a pretty normal title chase to me, as Consols has said. Adventuresome and exciting!

    Arsenal are my team.

  488. Ole,

4-4-2 is never going to happen again to my mind.

You can’t change the entire philosophy/formation of the team set up mid-stream just because some players are out of form/injured. This would effect the team performance irrespective of the formation. Especially when its been such an important change to implement.

4-4-2 didn’t best serve the all-out attack philosophy at AFC which is why we changed. And knowing how stubborn AW is – do you honestly think he’s going to change now?

Agree with you on Silvestre btw.

  489. Ole I understand first half was ours whereas the 2nd one was theirs and that they got a good goal dissallowed. Supposedly Almunia was at his disappointing worst again.

  490. Almunia wasn’t bad at all, he didnt concede a single goal from open play, and the pen wasn’t his fault either.
