Arsenal Firing Blanks On Sodden Afternoon

Arsenal 0 – 3 Chelsea

0 – 1 Drogba (40)
0 – 2 Vermaelen (44)
0 – 3 Drogba (85)

A scoreline which did not reflect the match but a result with which few could argue. It is a defeat that is damaging but does not end the quest for the title. The gap is notionally eleven points. Once the home fixture with Bolton has been played, the true gap is known. Until that time, nothing is determined. Winning matches against any opposition is important but losing against the current league leaders does not decide a season’s outcome. Unless of course, at the end of it you trail in up to three points behind.

Prior to kick-off, the question was whether or not Arsenal could compete in midfield; they did so. Neither side dominated that area of the pitch for the whole of the game. The final third proved to be the difference. It is this which may cause concern for Arsene.

Two matches out of the last three against typically English defensive sides, irrespective of the quantity of foreign players, has seen the forward line collectively fail to breach the back four. It is too simplistic to challenge the squad and call for signings in January. Too simplistic to say Eduardo failed to do this, Vela failed to do that, Arshavin the other. They all did not do their things.

The absence of van Persie for several months is something that has to be dealt with. Perhaps tweaking the formation is required to exploit the talent that Arsene has at his disposal. Reacting now by demanding that Arsene must sign another forward in January is kneejerk; nothing more, nothing less. That is not to deny the failings in front of goal, an issue that will be worked on resolving in training. If by the end of December the problem is not solved, two things are certain: one, Arsene will sign someone in January and two, all hell will have broken loose, particularly as the fixtures in that time require victories.

Unquestionably, the pivotal moments in the match came in the five minutes before half-time. Questions were raised about the defence, a big centre back begged for pre-season. The clodhopping monster craved would not have prevented either goal. Twice Cole crossed from the left, playing the ball into an area of the box rather than at the man. Twice Chelsea scored. Once is an avoidable error, twice is carelessness. Having failed to close the opportunity for Cole to cross previously, the expectation quite reasonably is that the midfield / defence block the next occasion it arose. Arsenal failed to do so.

Vermaelen may have been unfortunate in that his clearance flew into almost the same spot as Drogba’s first effort but more at fault was the communication between himself and Almunia. There was no imminent threat from Drogba and the Spaniard would have collected the ball comfortably had Vermaelen not interceded. Was a shout made? If so, why was it ignored? If not, why not? Almunia had a perfect view of the cross and in those situations, it is not an unrealistic expectation for the goalkeeper to issue the commands.

The outcome might have been different had Arshavin not had a goal chalked off minutes after the restart. A loose pass from Drogba to Cech was charged down and the ball broke to the Russian. Time was not on his side yet he required that to shoot home from twenty yards. The ensuing passage of play found the ball on the right and hoisted into the area. Eduardo raised a boot, chest high on Cech, the rebound swept home by Arshavin. A good goal? Seemingly so except that Andre Marriner was entitled to deem Eduardo’s foot as being dangerous play. Alas the absence of malice in the challenge is no excuse to call an exception to that rule.

Other chances were created but not incisive ones. Nothing improved particularly in the second half with the introduction of Walcott for Song. Pairing the Cameroonean and Denilson in the midfield gave more solidity, indicative that Wenger wanted to offer Cesc freedom to roam whilst having the Brazilian there to augment defence and attack. It did not work out that way with little threat from the playmakers.

That is something Chelsea were effective at yesterday, disciplined in denying opportunities. There was no outmuscling, simply outsmarting on the pitch. The third goal sealed the win, flattering to some extent but well-taken nonetheless, power defeating Almunia, who must accept some criticism for positioning since the ball passed almost where he was initially stood before the ball was struck.

There is much to dwell on and no doubt that there is much food for thought. The first team has a week before the visit of Stoke to The Emirates, a well-disciplined side this season. A visit to Eastlands may prove a welcome relief with the Carling Cup squad shorn of first team players.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. Am i first?

  2. Youth policy failed. Its time for Wenger to change.

Spending big on quality players = success

The sooner Wenger gets that through his skull, the better.

  3. I was, Can I just say, we were totally outplayed all over the pitch yesterday!

Chelsea unfortunately are streets ahead of us, and in John Terry had easily the best player on the pitch by a country mile!

Essien and Mikel were poor by their standards but sill had far too much for us…..

Yes we should have had a goal, however they should have had two penalties, so I think its a little churlish of AW to make to much of it!

Back to the drawing board Arsene!

  4. I could be first, but I’ll type this out instead. The second goal is just one of those things…the reason good crosses are important. The breakdown between Almunia and Vermaelen was because the BOTH thought that Gallas had it.

They’re better. Full stop. I don’t know if they’re better than we are at full strength, but they’re better than the team we had on the field yesterday. I don’t think anyone else is, though, and we can still take care of business and capitalize on possible failings to come in January.

  5. I dont blame the players for the loss , i blame the system .Wenger cant even teach those players the basics of defending .We need some professional assistance in those areas. It wont hurt to see our players going for the 50 50s ,shrug off the players ,doing some professional fouls and heading the football ffs.

  6. Spending big on quality players = success
    ————–
    Yea like Real Madrid?

Having money to spend help but your equation is wrong.

I really don’t think it was physical strength that won Chelsea the game.

They had a better plan, was more disciplined in defence, and took their chances. That men against boys thing is lazy journalism.

Chelsea executed Ancelotti’s strategy to a tee. Even Ancelotti said so, Chelsea conceded the midfield, relied on their strength in defence, and took their chances on the counter.

  7. Pz: “It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good. Matt, Joe, and their kind are squeezing every last drop of pleasure from this.”

More of your horsehit Pz. I take absolutely no gratitude from seeing this team fail from the same persistent reasons that have plagued us for the last 5 years now. In fact it cuts me very very deeply. But I just refuse to live in a little bubble thinking that “our strikers are better than Drogba” and “Chelsea are a bunch of old men”.
While everyone on this blog was backslapping each other in self congratulations about our 5 and 6 goal routs – I was being labeled a “doomer” because I pointed to that fact that we conceded far too easily. It’s not a “blip” – its a serious phucking problem that has still not been addressed!

  8. Is Alex Song injured?

  9. I agree with Andrei Arshavin. A couple of wins at this will be behind us. I don’t think that Chelski were dominant at all. In the first half the shoe was on the other foot. We fucked up royally for all of their goals…but it will not always be like that. We were reeling from the news of RvP and have some reorganising to do up front. With a bit more confidence Eduardo would have been in at least twice in the first half. The injury to Alex Song made a big difference for the second half. But nevertheless our midfield was better than theirs throughout the game. The Chelski side on display yesterday was the best they have and they were not impressive….they will lose matches but more importantly they will draw. We just have to pick ourselves up and keep going….it will all look very different in January.

….btw for all of those supporters who embarassed us all by clogging up the aisles with 12 minutes left to play….fuck off we don’t need you. I would rather the stadium was only 40% full of the diehards for the whole game than have any of you lot come to games.

….btw extra. Chelski supporters were the quietest away supporters we have hosted. They only make a noise when they score. Very poor…stark contrast to AZ and Standard Liege.

  10. Fair comment Santino: Without defensive organization and discipline we aren’t going anywhere soon. Contend for third or fourth place hoping that the others in the pack fall off the pace, is the best we can hope for.
The worst part of it is that this inadequacy has been sticking out like a sore thumb for 2 or three seasons now and nothing has been done about it. Hopefully Wenger will wake up and get his act together now and we’ll not need to be thrown into Europa league places to come to grips with reality.

  11. Oh fuck off, Joe, you dreary man.

  12. Lot of crap is being spoken.

Not least by Pyles. But we’ve come to expect that from him. Where was Arshavin yesterday Pyles ? Your favourite player ? Even better than Bergkamp eh ? The best player in the premiership ?

We were overpowered and dominated. Err.. no..we were not.. the analysis is fundamentally flawed. We lost because of two lapses of concentration in the space of 5 minutes. I don’t want to apportion blame, but you can’t be too praiseworthy about the combined efforts of Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen and Almunia.

Up front ? Well.. it wasn’t great. But whatever problems we were having up front should have been tempered by trying to keep it tight.

As YW said, we need to go back on the training ground and become more solid.

Everything went Chelsea’s way yesterday, there is no doubt about it. And for Sunderland as well.

We need to pick ourselves up and move on.

  13. The better team won yesterday – no complaints.

We failed to play our game and Chelsea’s supposed power was not the deciding issue. They took their chances, we didn’t. Such is football and there’s a lot of work to be done at London Colney.

I’m bemused by the buy buy buy Wenger must buy brigade. We have the personnel to do the job – we need to change our mental attitude.

We’re still very much in the premiership race, and for me, the loss at Sunderland was more costly in the grand scheme of things.

  14. We’re playing Stoke at home next. Forget the Milkshake Cup on Wednesday.

The focus is on Saturday. We have to beat Stoke.

They’re a massive bruising team. With our 3 tallest players out, we just have to be incisive, and we can’t carry any passengers in attack.

Mr Eduardo please step up to the plate.

  15. Men against boys is a gibe we should ignore.

  16. I think our back four will keep cleansheets after cleansheets if they were playing for a different type of coach.Arsene never gives the art of defence its much needed recognition.

  17. Luke. Save that jibe for when the so called boys lift the trophy. It’ll be sweeter.

Wenger has already said it’s back to the training ground for solidity. What more can fans do before Saturday?

  18. In November we’ve conceded 5 goals from 8 chances conceded to the opposition.

The easy conclusion is that our defenders are utter poo. It means you only have to try once or twice to score against Arsenal.

But we know that is not true. Sagna, Gallas, Vermaelen….they’re not that prone.

So I hope they took a long look at themselves in the mirror when they last went to the loo.

They’ve got to do better. Simply have to do better.

  19. Time to regroup at London Colney. We are one third of the way through the season. If we can win our game in hand we would possibly be 8 points behind Chelski and 3 behind the Mancs after two miserable results. Chelski need to amass points for the 6 week ACN period. I don’t think that they will amass enough. Both the Mancs and Chelski are beatable and catchable. Dust ourselves off and get going again.

  20. yeah dreary wet and bad day at the office ..

    11 points whats eleven points?

Sunderland have one shot against Wigan this week but unlike last week fail to score with that singular effort..

Wenger has told the story of yesterday..

forget the players who aren’t there.. the ones you see now have the power and ability..

this can and will shift mountains ..

    Fans enthuse .. Supporters support..

    We are the Arsenal

  21. I have to say, Santino, that that is the biggest pile of shit I have read in a while. I would not like to have played in a side alongside you son thats for sure. As for Joe…I would not have let him in the clubhouse.

  22. YW

Dont know what game you were watching.Chelsea
were the much superior team. You dont lose 3-0 at home to your rivals and say the gap between us isnt huge.
We needed a striker to replace Ade in the summer we need one or two now to replace RVP because Eduardo is not the answer. We need a keeper too

To play one striker alone upfront against the meanest defence in the league didnt make sense
In the last two home games v the Chav we have conceded 7 goals. We have problems all over the pitch
Either Kroenke or Ushmanov takes over and pumps money into the squad or we are stuck in 3rd or 4th place.Or is that all Fisman and co want?

  23. Frank,
what game you play ,more importantly what game you watch ?

  24. Like everone I was disapointed at the result it is a bitter pill to swollow. All the hacks who were writing us off at the start of the season will feel vindicated. We have to prove them wrong. I do feel there is a vulnerability ln the team we need to beef up.

  25. Well i agree with Joe that Pol was talking shit.

Only the most blindly loyal could say that Chelsea didn’t deserve to beat us yesterday.

The important thing is to re-group, and make sure we get as many points on the board as possible, so when we do get the chance for revenge at the Bridge, we are in a position to make the most of it.

And i couldn’t agree with you more about the fans Frank – some fool told me to sit down and be quiet when cheering on the team – funnily enough he was nowhere to be seen with 10 mins left – wanker.

  26. FRANK have you looked at Chelsea fixtures during the ANC?

  27. I see few problems at all. Some days are like this. Football is like this. I’m a fair judge and I’m not convinced Chelsea is better than us overall, over a season, and time will tell. I seem to recall they were 11 points ‘clear’ of ManU at exactly the same stage last season. Their own problems are coming. The lads must dig in, and dig in they will. We are better than we were last season, and this will show. As for mean, fairweather and cowardly supporters, you are of zero consequence. Predictably you have nothing interesting to say.
I must say, I admire Drogba who proved the difference yesterday, not like, but admire.

  28. I don’t think Chelsea out played us, they were simply more composed, took their chances and never paniced, while we tried and tried but seemded to be looking for something genius to happen. But Bergkamp, Pires and Henry are long gone and no one now that RVP is sidelined, other than Cesc and Arsharvin has real confidence in themselves to think that they can change a game with or without the collective tip tap help of others.

  29. I hate reading stuff from Arsenal blogs. The only positive talk, only comes from Wenger. Seriously WTF! Everyone else tows the line perpetrated by the likes of Jamie Redknapp. It makes for good reading. We have been unlucky. People that put it on themselves to comment about Arsenal should do a better job. Don’t write anything till you have the benefit of reviewing the match bereft of emotions.

If you ask Wenger – he would rather have Bendtner, Diaby and Van Persie present for this game – that is a fact. Does anyone think Chelsea would have been as effective without Drogba and Anelka?

I listen to ex-Arsenal players – never ever give the club credit and it infurates me no end. The likes of Ian Wright, Paul Merson, Tony Adams and Petit going into bed with the likes of Jamie Redknapp is so so annoying.

It did not go our way, we should deal with it. It is a 38 game season, and people are not stupid enough to believe this is the end of the season.

  30. shango,

No excuses for losing 3-0 at home. Eduardo, Arshavin, Fabregas, Rosicky….all top class talent available for and who featured in the game.

  31. Gunner From Nigeria

I watched on ESPN Classic last night the 99/00 and 00/01 seasons of our matches at Stamford Bridge where we came from two goals down in both matches. You could not help but, admire the tenacity of Keown and the strength of Petit
as well as the never say die attitude.
Our present team needs a powerhorse which Bendtner and Diaby would become and, they should try to always get stuck in. Masherano is small but, he can’t bullied.
    Bye bye to November

  32. Yes I have seen the fixtures during the ACN and they include the return fixture.

  33. There is never an excuse to loose. But, you could win, loose or draw.
But when you loose, be intelligent about your analysis.

  34. shango,

We lost 3-0 at home. We had 7 blocked shots. They scored with 5 shots on target. We weren’t incisive.

Our defending and attacking play was not good enough. We have now won only 4 of 19 last encounters against top 6 sides. 12 of those were losses. Many were heavy losses.

What more do you want to add?

  35. Shango talks sense.

  36. thats some good sense drilled in to my head…..

but defensively we need to be much much better.

  37. Have to agree Chelsea were head and shoulders better than us yesterday. They looked what they are a team on mature professionals who know how to win. The rocked briefly at the start of the 2nd half but I have no doubt they could have upped their game.

Our last 3 games against the big clubs at home have resulted in 3-1, 4-1 and 3-0 defeats. If anyone doubts the physical inferiority re-watch the challege of Traore on Drogba who just bounced off him.

Wenger has a real problem we now have no real centre forward, Eduardo and Vela are lightweight, Almunia has demonstrated again that he makes too many mistakes.

I think he now realises this and for the first time his position as manager is under intense scrutiny. The Janurary transfer window is his last chance to redeam his position particularly with Hiddink/Mourinho available in the summer.

  38. Gunner From Nigeria

    Ole,
I could deduce that you are annoyed judging from your response to Shango and rightly so. Especially when you consider the attacking talents we had on the pitch yesterday.
Its easy to blame the manager but, these players should be ashamed of their performance not once but, twice in 7 days.
At times, i get apprehensive when Arsenal is playing as you never know what would happen.
Still, when will this curse of November go away. Prayers.

  39. ‘I think he now realises this and for the first time his position as manager is under intense scrutiny.’….you just made that up Vivb. That is just rubbish.

  40. Hiddink and Mourinho will never manage Arsenal…neither should they.

  41. Laughable rubbish at that.

  42. its a mirage. we lost to a fake team who should not even exist in the real world. arsenal are a real team with long future ahead of them. chelsea are one helicopter crash away from being out to sea for the rest of time.

  43. The problem is Wenger is not under any pressure to win trophies just to get us in the top 4.

  44. Vlame the defence as usual but we know we didnt look like scoring even agains sunderland we looked flat. Wenger has a problem fixing problems in the team copz we always complain abt the same stuff all the time.

  45. I think you just made a real fool of yourself, Austino…..you trawling for hits you brainless fucker?

  46. I would suggest to you, Michael, that AW is under more pressure from himself than you could possibly even imagine….or do you not read or listen?

  47. Gunner From Nigeria

If only i could fast forward to Saturday to the match against Stoke so that this Chelsea Nightmare and “daymare” would go away but, i just have to wait and hope for a better result next week.
However, the Man City match would be a good platform to relaunch, rebrand and reorganise our campaign.
I know its easier said than done but, we can get it if we really want we just have to keep on trying as the league is a marathon not a sprint.

  48. You will have noticed, Clay, that we have just lost two inform strikers. You think that it is a coincidence that with Nic and RvP now out our levels up front drop? As they would in any side. My proposition is that this is a temporary blip whilst AW and the squad regroup and reorganise, which they will do over the next week or so.

  49. We needed more of those situations that led to the disallowed goal, we needed to create a bit of havoc in the box and their robotic defence would lose its shape, there was no other altarnative, there was a huge wall we could not break down in fact the tactics for this game was an exact copy of Chelsea Barca game, Ancelotti looked at that and thought tactics sorted. The title race is not over If Wigan have beaten Chelsea then there is plenty of hope, we will catch up its a question of us doing our home work and keep clean sheets.

  50. I think that AW will continue to use the CC as a testing ground for the youngsters, GfN. He will stick to that policy on Wednesday. The signs of a resurgence in the league will come next weekend when the full squad play again.

  51. An honest observation at my time in Emirates yesterday. First of all that muscle thing is all wrong. We stood up to those guys in every area of the pitch. Experience bit is also overrated.

The mistake was we underestimated them. Again. And that happens every time we play them. In the initial twenty five mins we always dominate. That is the time to put in a goal or two. Then they get used to us and we really dont have anything to surprise them.

To expect a team like chelsea to be ultimately be bamboozled by our passing after 50 mins is putting the odds against you. They understand the runs and the movements of players who has the game progresses become slower and concentrate less.

Pick up the tapes of this match and the last match. You will find our attacking purposeful and dangerous in the first 25 mins. Then quickly move on towards the last 25 mins and you will see the difference. we look inept and our attacking woeful.

How to address it? Honestly I dont know. But I guess more long distance shooting by song and defenders would give make a difference with the existing resources.

  52. “”I think he now realises this and for the first time his position as manager is under intense scrutiny. The Janurary transfer window is his last chance to redeam his position particularly with Hiddink/Mourinho available in the summer.”

has to be a sad day when we start asking for the most succesful manager of our club to be replaced by ex chelsea managers!!! (grass is always greener on the other side but what the……?)

they are making losses even when winning trophies, they aim to break even when? how sustainable is it all? how much do they have to spend to stay in the same position?

someone else called for usmanov and kronke to hurry with the take over and just splash the cash.(what like liverpool? such a short term fix for such a short term gain) or like man poo? win nearly every trophy going and still make a loss.

to me their models dont look that sustainable, only time will tell. but in that time the rest have spent their way to glory, we have tried something different.

If it doesnt work out fair enuff but im proud of the fact we tried to do it differently and our manager and board were brave and visonary enuff to do it our way, the right way(live with in your means, dont sacrifice the club for short term gain) than sell our souls to the highest bidder and sacrifice the club so i can have bragging rights over my mates for a short term!!!!!

pity some of our so called supporters are cowards!!

  53. So has progress really been made?

End of November 2008: Played 15, Won 8, Drawn 2, Lost 5, conceded 19 goals

End of November 2009: Played 13, Won 8, Drawn 1, Lost 4, conceded 18 goals

  54. It seems that Arsenal supporters are so well off that we have taken to throwing cameras, iPods, mobiles (cells), B&O home cinemas etc at oppositon players when they are trying to take a corner. As opposed to the empty plastic lighters, chewing gum and used condoms hurled at players by the Stamford Bridge faithful.

  55. Beaten bye a better team,,, we were most certainly. two goals set up bye Cole. Drogba scores again against us again. People can say what they want about how good Arsenal are but the results are what counts. Chelsea are getting them we are not.
11 points is huge, teams that have real title aspirations dont need to rely on other teams to drop points,,, unfortunately we will not win the league any other way… Are Chelsea going to loose another 4 games,, and Arsenal none?
I call it as I see it.

  56. i dont want to doom but in arsene’s case you must admit that we have had the very similar frailties with the side the past 4 years and yet he still looks on in disbelief.

His comments and general attitude after these loses show signs of childish angst, he feels the world is against him and holds a very tainted view of the match.

He is very much the dictator at arsenal so its this point of view that will stand. He wont listen to other peoples point of view. he is extremely stubbon and I really dont believe he listens to fans at all. (rightly so judging by most comments i read but still quite an elitist attitude)

The problem is he has a very strong idealogy but he does not live in an ideal world. And for all his genius he cant see his own weaknesses.

  57. Biggest pile of shit on the board today, word. Well done.

  58. Go on have have a good grizzle, gunnerjones.

  59. The league is won/lost in May, not November. There are 24 games left in the season. It’s not over. Until it’s mathematically impossible, I’ll still believe. If there are “fans” who chose not to, so be it.

Onto football matters. I think the most worrying thing for me is the fact that way more often that not, this Arsenal team NEEDS to play well to win. But there are times when we do play well, yet still aren’t able to win. We dominated Utd, but we lost. We had plenty of chances at City, we lost. Everyone knows the story at West Ham. Sunderland had one shot on target (we didn’t really play well, but didn’t deserve to lose either). Chelsea hardly saw the ball for 40 minutes, but scored 2 in 5 at the end of the first half… Why does this keep happening? Are we unlucky? Do we lack a “killer instinct”? These questions need answering. And no, I don’t think the answers lie in the chequebook. Not all of them. Minus RvP, B52 and Abou this is the same group that humiliated Everton on their own ground. That embarrassed Spurs a month ago. That scored for fun… I believe we can bounce back. I’m just not too sure the players believe it. I really hope they do

  60. @Larry

The League cannot be won in November, but it can be lost in November. Remember last season…

  61. That was an unnecessary and pointless comment, arsenalkabisa. The league was not lost yesterday….there are many more matches of all combinations to come.

  62. Great Ormond Street Hospital

Tough loss by our boys yesterday but one positive that came from the day was that Arsenal donated their days wage and raised money to go to Great Ormond Street Hospital!
If you are interestedin donating please visit the Arsenal Be a Gooner Be a Giver web page, http://www.beagoonerbeagiver.org/

  63. Come on you whinging fuckers. Instead of posting negative grizzles, go to the site above and give something to GOSH. Evrytime to you moan you owe GOSH a quid…or a dollar and a bit.

  64. “It seems that Arsenal supporters are so well off that we have taken to throwing cameras, iPods, mobiles (cells), B&O home cinemas etc at oppositon players when they are trying to take a corner.”

im sorry frank i presume you would prefer the supporters to be poor working class scum like you? yeah a REAL man you can relate to down weatherspoons whilst spending your benefits together would certainly have thrown an old lighter instead. kids today hey?

it brings such shame on your city that we look like successful well rounded members of society. what an embaressment we must be to the rest of the english footballing world.

    you old blinkered bastard.

  65. “I think there is a period for any team to come out and show its strength,” he announced on the eve of the match. “For us, for my team, this moment has come. This is a game where everybody will look to rate our potential. I have no worries about that. We are not any more a team that has to be considered young. We have strength and we want to show on Sunday that we are strong enough to beat Chelsea.”

  66. I suppose many of us are getting the following email in our inbox today. For those who aren’t, here you go:

    “Dear Supporter,

We are all very disappointed with the result on Sunday, but I feel the 3-0 scoreline against Chelsea was a very unfair reflection of the game, but we cannot change it now.

I believe that Chelsea had absolutely everything going for them on Sunday and we can only respond in our next game. With their first shot on goal, they scored. With their second cross, they scored. And after it was difficult.

The turning point was when the referee disallowed Arshavin’s ‘goal’ early in the second half. I feel it was a very unfair decision. That was a very important goal in this kind of game, and I feel it was a mistake by the referee.

Of course, Chelsea are in a very strong position now, but this team, for me, they can drop points. I’m convinced of that. That’s an impression I have. Before we speak about the title, we now have to get back to winning games.

Also when you look back at the game, I think Carlos Vela could have had a penalty. I think it was at least a foul on the edge of the box. If the referee gives a foul when Drogba scored from his free-kick, he cannot say it was not a foul on Vela. But I do not want to talk too much about the referee. I think we make mistakes; we need to look at ourselves and ask why we conceded the goals.

Drogba is a good player. It’s funny because he doesn’t do a lot, but he’s efficient in what he does. You would be surprised by the number of balls he touched on Sunday. But Drogba is a great player, nobody can deny that. He’s very efficient. I think as well, at the moment he’s in a period where he kicks the ball and it goes in. On the first goal, at the moment he has complete confidence and he doesn’t wonder ‘will I score or not?’. He just goes for it and he did very well. It’s a great goal, the first one, but it’s a goal of a striker in complete confidence.

I do not think the title race is over. I think we are fighters and we have to show that in the next game. The problem we have at the moment is that people will not believe in us, so we have to make sure that lack of belief does not diminish our belief.

That’s where we have to be mentally stronger than we were until now. Because until now, we had some credit that we earned at the start of the season from the ‘specialists’, and then we a lose a game. And now it will be harder for us.

    Thanks for your continued support.

  67. I suppose many of us are getting the following email in our inboxes today. For those who aren’t, here you go:

    Dear Supporter,

  68. Kitchen Sink I concur. Its not the end of the world. We pick ourselves up, dust off and move on!

    We are the Arsenal.

PS. Fabianski needs more game time.

  69. Anyone read the Arsène Wenger post-match email yet? I tried to post it on here, but it keeps disappearing.

  70. Flint McCullough

    Great perpective today, YW.

The 2nd goal was the real killer, caused more by Gallas missing it than lack of understanding between TV & MA.

Thanks Frank for giving these quick fix antis the treatment they deserve.

The difference between the teams at the end of the day were the strikers. Theirs were powerful & intelligent but also did not have to face 2 almost totally defensive destroyers in midfield. My ‘beef’ about the refereeing was that Mikel was booked about an hour too late.

We needed big games from Eduardo & Arshavin, which neither provided.

I would not concede our PL chances on this game because our style of play ended up as food & drink to a very impressive Chelsea side.
Physically we didn’t trouble their rearguard & they could counter attack, to suit themselves, they can & will drop points to teams, who won’t go at them but will knock them about at set pieces. We talk about Almunia but Cech was shaky & very luck to get away with the disallowed goal because he was all over the place, never having the ball under control.

I don’t think it is a matter of getting a defensive coach in but more AW being prepared to settle for the stalemate, if necessary, in this type of match.

Chelsea are clearly short odds favourites but I always feel that if you are within 9 points of the leaders going into the 2nd half of the season you still have every chance. They are in top top form right now but it is hard to keep that up throughout a season.

Chelsea are at a collective peak, like our 2004 Invincibles. Arsenal are at the stage where Chelsea were at the same season. We have a huge potential to cross that divide.

The team has to retain its belief & the supporters, more than ever have to really get behind them.

  71. I really hate this ‘men aginst boys’ tag we have nowadays. Its embarrasing. Arshavin and Edurdo were dodging challenges and being nudged off the ball as if they were flys.

We must toughen up & become men.

  72. @Frank,

lets be honest. The team that played yesterday cannot win the EPL. How sure are we that it wont be the team playing for the rest of the season?

I think we need preseason training again.

I really felt for those who went to the emirates. It was embarrassing frank. We didn’t become a terrible team overnight. We were just shown that we arent there yet, and probably have a few more heart breaking seasons seasons to come.

  73. FRANK – some people like to articulate what they perceive to be the frailties of team after this kind of loss. sometimes its not just dooming for the sake of it (there are some bullshit comments tho agreed) but you can fuck off if you think standing in a circle signing arsenal chants is going to solve anything.

would you read a blog with 200 comments saying ‘up the gooners’ or ‘come lads we can do it’? – no that would pretty fucking naive and boring.

does arsene not bother to analsye a game afterwards? are we not allowed to as well then?

  74. The Beautiful Game

Arsenal played well. Chelsea were not the better team. They only had 1 shot on goal. They did not out-muscle or out-class Arsenal in the midfield.

Arsenal had more possession, more shots, more corners. Whilst this means nothing in the end of course, nobody can say Chelsea out-played or out-classed Arsenal in that game.

As far as im concerned, Chelsea were very lucky, albeit earned.

  75. We were painfully average, we were at home and we didnt create ONE decent chance or have any period of sustained pressure. We made Chelsea look good and is if they didnt even have to break a sweat.

Maybe sign Pat V untill the end of the season to toughen us up a bit and show the boys how to tackle. We also desperately need a striker to lead the line

  76. Flint has it dead right. We only have to remain within 5 points to be in the title race. We need to have a sparkling November.

This is the time when reputations are there to be made.

Players should be queueing up to step up to the plate.

  77. So ‘well rounded members of society’ throw phones at people from behind? I suppose if you can afford a phone and don’t use public transport, anything after that is justified.

  78. Well said Flint and Ole

  79. Sparkling December, Ole?

  80. I think we need a ‘sparkling’ rest of the season!

  81. no more pretenders against contenders match please.

  82. We need to string together a run of wins now. Other than the trip to Anfield no game left this year looks particularly tricky. We have put ourselves in a position where we need to win every game near enough until the new year, so lets do it. The points are perfectly redeemable.

With a third of the season gone we have lost 4 games, I don’t see us losing 12 overall. This team is better than last years and they pulled it around.

I don’t agree that we can write of man city on wednesday and focus on the league. We need to win, create some positive vibes and the team should give the supporters a two leg semi-final to look forward to. It may be the carling cup, but this game has taken on a big significance now.

Fabianski will be first choice keeper by January. Almunia has regressed. A poor penalty against manure, owngoal at city, and two cheap goals yesterday due to poor communication and positioning.

    Team for Wednesday

    Fabianski

    Eboue senderos silvester traore

    Coquellin

    Rosicky Ramsey

    Walcott vela merida

  83. I’m starting to worry that Eduardo will never been the same player agin after his injury. He was woefull yesterday and got bossed far too easily by Terry. Go I wish we’d never sold Ade, he was a big part of our strength against the better teams. Walcott, Bendtner and Eduardo arfe just not in Ade’s or Drogba’s or RVP’s class i’m afraid

  84. OK, I tried to paste it, like 5 times.

So here’s a screen dump. The email text becomes legible when you click on the image – I hope there’s nothing personal in there. In any case, I’ll be deleting it in a couple of hours.

    http://wengandaprayer.tumblr.com/

  85. Totally agree about Fabianski. He has more potential then Almunia who is getting worse every game he plays. Fabianski all day long.

  86. arseneholis,

Stoke City. They’re the tallest team in the league. They’re very well organised bruisers.

That’s a hard hard fixture, off the back of two defeats, and while missing our 3 tallest players.

  87. We need Ade back, he used to lead our line brilliantly, he’s a class above what we now appart from RVP but he is totally unreliable. This will be the third year in four that he’s missed at least half of the season.

  88. The Beautiful Game

    @RedTrev

The stats are there for all to see.

I understand stats mean nothing. But as Chelsea only had one shot on goal, there really is no weight in the claim: Chelsea played better, Chelsea out-muscled, out-classed, were better, stronger etc.

    They were quite lucky.

It is true that Arsenal didnt create that many chances either though. And they missed a tall, strong striker.

  89. chelsea just won ,we did everything else right.

  90. Beautifull game,

You dont need stats when you watch the game with your own eyes, and we were well beaten. If we dont admit that then we will not be able to move forward.

  91. Arsenalkabisa since you started going to Le-grove you have become overly pessimistic and i can tell you it’s very unbecoming.

FFS people get a grip! This chelsea team beat LP/MU so its its not like we are their first vicitms and for someone to come in here and say our title hopes are over is just the kind of crap we dont need at Arsenal!! How many top 4 teams did Manu beat last season? they still carried the trophy.

we should leave the top 4 games to the wire(as they could go either way)What we need to ensure is we dont drop anymore points against the other bottom teams and i am sure we will be in there with a fight come end of the season.

ooh one more thing..We ought to stop leaking goals, we didnt leak too many yesterday cld have ended as 0-0 coz it isnt like they had 10 shots on target.

  92. Its too early to write off the league completely but it is looking like a real longshot now. RvP’s injury has f***ed us. If he were fit I am sure that we would have scored in the first 25mins when we were well on top. The problem is that he is out for the season and someone has to improved hugely if they are to replace him. I cannot see who.

It wasn’t just 2 defensive errors – Drogba had 2 clear headers before he scored. This team cannot defend – look at the number of goals we have conceded. If you attack this team 3 times you will score a goal. The was Chelsea soaked up our pressure was instructive: we had the majority of the possesion but did not create a single chance apart from the disallowed goal while they looked comfortable every time we went forward. They had done very little but then killed the game in 3 minutes.

We have played them at home twice this year and lost by an aggregate of 1-6. This tells its own story. Defensively we are poor and give teams easy opportunities to score in every game and without RvP we have been toothless upfront.

  93. Chelsea were particularly strong in 2 areas – attack and defense. our midfield competed well and on many occassions outplayed theirs in the first 20 or so minutes but thier defense is really good and was too good for our not full strength attack.

even with a utility right back their defence was strong as a unit.

Ive said this before but the most worrying thing i see with this team is they are not at their best playing when a goal down. unlike previous championship winning arsenal sides, if this side go a goal down it seems they panic (esp in defense) and loose confidence rather than believing that they will get the goal back and go on to win.

even going 2 nill down you would expect us to always come back and get the draw, even the win in the past. Now i dont have the same confidence with this side if we dont score first .

these things can be resolved in training!

  94. Oh we must have lost a game. AIC has appeared.

Are you a little deluded, ReTrev? You seem to be under the impression that ‘we’ are a part of the management team.

  95. Frank we have lost 4 league games this season and this is the first time I have posted after a defeat.

  96. We must buy a big striker in January. Ade must be replaced. Walcot, Bendtner and Eduardo are no way near good enough to win us anything.

  97. Hey Joe, AIC has arrived….but you know that already don’t you, son!

  98. Naaah. Your habit is to spread despondency, AIC.

  99. You are a liar Frank.

  100. Are you a bit deluded Frank? you seem to be under the impression that are squad do not need a good hard kick up the arse

  101. Ole – i agree about stoke dude, tough team, but I don’t think man city is a game that can be ignored in turning things around. Above it was suggested that saturday is the first test of the team, i see the logic as a lot of kids will play wednesday, but I think it would be a real boost now to go and win in midweek.

Our record against the strongest teams is starting to look shocking. The stat you posted earlier, 4 wins in 19 versus 12 losses makes hard reading. It cannot be ignored or written off as bad luck when our performances merrited more.

I didn’t see chelsea do much to open us up, but we conceded 3 times. Same against utd, gifted it to them. Happened last year in teh second half of the season also.

A win wednesday and saturday would stop the negativity. A semi-final draw against a big side with our kids would be really exciting to look forward to. (If they could step up and win teh competition it would give the whole club a boost, whether it is the aim or not.)

We lose wednesday and saturday will seem more difficult. Plus with a youth team probably going to greece we might find ourselves in 10 days looking at a shocking run of form that is threatening to undermine the whole season.

On yesterday, how well you play includes defending. Giving away two cheap goals massively outweighes 40 minutes of possession play. We gave the game away, again. We have the talent though. Perhaps this will be our turning point, similar to 98.

  102. None of chelsea’s goals had anything to do with the size of their strikers.

  103. The parasit is back in time as always after a defeat. Along with his doomer friends. You must be a real miserable human being, AIC.

  104. No, it had to do with the quality of there strikers. Drogba is twice the player that Bendtner, Eduardo or Walcott are. He wins chelsea many games on his own. Now RVP is injured and we’ve sold Ade, we need to buy another world class striker or we aint doing shit this season.

  105. We still need to find a way to play when teams sit deep, pack the middle and allow us to play wide. Chelsea let us put cross after cross (mostly shite delivery unfortunately) in the box knowing that we wouldn’t trouble their CB’s

With cesc, nasri, arshavin, denilson on the pitch we couldn’t get the ball in front of their defence and pick a pass.

I can’t see why, if they sit on the edge of their box, we don’t take long shots to draw them out.

With what we have though, we should be looking for 6 wins out of 6 in the league in december. We are good enough.

  106. Nasri is another one that needs to step up a gear. He has been with us a while now and needs to perform more consistantly instead of one game in five

  107. Yes, AIC, I have indeed lied at times in my life. But not about you, son.

  108. Arseneholis,

What was the point of putting cross after cross into the box when the only person is there is Eduardo who is about four foot tall?

We run out of ideas so early it was embarrasing. Without someone to hold the ball up we could never get anything going.

  109. Redtrev – we need arshavin, cesc, nasri, rosicky, walcott, bendtner to win us some games.

World class strikers who can do the business the minute they arrive may not be that common and there is no guarantee that is what you pay for.

We will have a much better handle on who can step up and where the team is going at the end of december.

we may be closer than we are now in the league, with a plum draw in the champions league and a CC semi to look forward to.

We should beat stoke at home, we must, especially after that game. But that will be all the boys have to do for the next two weeks. They can rest and regroup.

The international break fucked up our form and fitness and not just the ones who are out.

Look at how much football and travel the french boys have put in. AA is gutted (bollox to that if you ask me, but it matters to him). Nearly allour players have played every 3 days for over a month.

If we get back to our level before the break we can go on a run, string some wins together out of the spotlight and turn this around.

  110. That was the point redtrev, we played into their hands. Keep up mate, you’re embarrassing yourself.

  111. RedTrev, let me give you an example. I think that Eduardo lacks confidence at the moment. Not surprising after recent events, he has been very unlucky. If he perseveres I think that he will find his form again. It is unfortunate that injuries to both Nic and Rvp have thrown him into the limelight a little before AW would have wished…but we are where we are. ‘Kicking him up the arse’ as you so bluntly put it is probably exactly what he does not require. Samir Nasri is another example….just playing himself back into form. ‘Kicking him up the arse’ won’t help either. So it seems to me that you know fuck all about fuck all….

  112. arsenehollis,

We shouldnt even be in this posistion this early in the season. We’ve had many transfer windows to bulk up our squad and we never did. Ade must be replaced, he must be or we aint winning feck all again for another year, and then we’ll have to worry about what players like Fabregas and Arshavins agents start telling them.

  113. I agree with arsenehollis

  114. Red give the guy a break. He hasnt played more than 5 games since he came back from injury.

Holis i was immensely disappointed by the long crosses!! Almunia’s long goal kicks didnt help either!!I can’t remember us getting on end of any of them.

  115. We should buy Yaya Toure if he is available in January as the papers are saying.

  116. Chelski made as many as 5 errors. The difference is that our striker didn’t get one single shot on target.

John Terry alone commited 3 errors that I remember.

  117. The interesting thing about Drogba is that he came second as player of the tournament in the ACN 2008….to Alex Song. Losing him at half time was tough.

  118. I have this crap defense argument thrown at me but as we all know that is too simplistic and if I tried explaining all the reasons why, the world will implode. So here’s the simplistic rationale:

    1) Let’s remember the way the side plays is a difficult balancing act; first you need to stretch play when attacking but the total opposite is required when defending which is to squeeze play.

2)Attacking is the one part of defending in this system which is defending from the front. Also if the side is more effective this will make an easier juggling act. Barcelona and Wigan have played this way; the former suffocate opponents through constant attack and pressure. The latter just haven’t got the skills to be as consistent either on the ball, defensively or ruthlessness.

    3) We are a team where being expansive will inevtably lead to gaps at the back, or more strain at the back will be more apt. It’s difficult to say the side has to be more ruthless as teams are then forced back by Arsenal for being better than them. Bendtner would have helped mix things up as remember we had lot’s of crosses which were duff. But the positive thing is we got into wide areas and where in a position to cross the damn ball.

There’s more I want to say but I feel there is a lack of people who want to read my comment so I’ll just give up half-ay through. Kudos for those who stayed awake.

  119. Yes I agree OG. An in form Eduardo would have three before half time so Chelski’s backline is nowhere near as impregnable as people…Arsenal supporters would you believe…. would have us believe.

  120. Bendtner scored one goal less than Ade last year trev. He played less minutes, had less starts, and has now improved massively. Very unfortunate for him and the club that he got injured when he did.

Ade was a wanker who did sod all and ruined the dressing room. Maybe we need a big striker, other than bentdner, but we definitely do not need to replace adebeyor. we are better without what he offered.

  121. Oh fuck no, not Yaya Toure…dear god.

  122. Frank, I’m afvraid it is you who knows feck all about feck all. A player cannot play so shit for FIVE games after he has been passed fit and be able to blame it on his fitness. If anything, Edurdos and Nasris performances have gotten worse. Nasris is a ghost most of the time, I dont even know if he’s still on the pitch.

We must do better, we’ve used all our chances and its only the end of november.

  123. The Brain,

I’d like you to say more. Only problem is I had no clue what you were saying in the last comment.

  124. The Beautiful Game

    @RedTrev

Yes, many people watched the game with their own eyes. And many have totally different opinions of what went wrong. So stats are very important to know, especially if it completely contradicts the belief that Arsenal were out played, or didnt play well. Or “were well beaten”.

Please explain to me how “we were well beaten”, when Chelsea only had one shot on goal?

  125. Number of premiership starts this year:

    Nasri: 2
    walcott: 1
    vela: 0
    rosicky 3
    eduardo: 5
    Denilson: 5

& players have combined for 16 starts in 3 months of football. Works out to about a game each a month.

You can see why maybe the form and sharpness isn’t their yet.

We have been caught in between a lot of players coming back from injury and lots of fresh knocks. We have rushed back forwards and needed them to perform against tops sides out to stop the arsenal. In an ideal world these guys would have been eased back in europe and the CC, but it didn’t work that way. No need to throw the toes form the pram with knee-jerk condemnation.

  126. The Beautiful Game;

    In statistical terms.

    Arsenal 0 Chelsea 3.

What says well-beaten better than that most basic of stats?

  127. It’s another Arsenal-Chelsea match where Drogba was the difference between the two sides. And Drogba is probably the best striker in Europe and incredibly difficult for anyone to stop.

  128. Not a fan frank?

  129. The beautifull game,

Dont be silly just for the sake of it. Chelsea schooled us on how to play away from home. Its o.k to admit it, it doesn’t mean you dont support the team it just means you are not thick.

  130. arseneholis,

I’m not having it. We don’t need any excuses. What excuses 3-0 at home, especially when we lost 1-4 the last time we played this band of apes?

If anything, we should have been fresher than them.

We had 7 blocked shots yesterday. You know what that means? They defended heroically, and threw their bodies in the way of every ball.

    Did our lot do that?

  131. @ Ole Gunner: Yes, the wording was s***. Um, basically, I wrote an article on this once (you may have commented on it) that the more expansive a side gets, the more strain it puts at the back. Wenger is trying to rectify that; the side is on the whole more dynamic and more direct (maybe not in the last two games).

But as the personnel are all ball players it is harder to shake off that over elaborate(ness) or simply, more possession. Having more ball means = more resources required = more strain at the back.

A tough predicament for Arsenal as we all want them to play good football and get results. Chelsea and United do not really care that much, especially so against the big sides. Should they care? That’s a debate for another day, but if you’re so good one way, why change? The Dutch ’74 side certainlt wouldn’t.

We’re swimming against a tough current – but we’re learning each match how to be more perfect. You can see that in Wenger’s reactions now and his subs also (although they didn’t work yesterday).

  132. arsenehollis,

Well maybe we should get rid of Walcot, RVP and Rocisky beacuse they are Always getting injured. I’d rather have players that will play the games.

  133. The Brain,

Now I get you. But what’s your take on why we concede so many from such few chances?

  134. “In England people think that the Solution is always to buy”

“Arsene, that’s what people think all over Europe and guess what? They’re fucking right. We’ve got ourselves a young team of players who don’t know how to win. We need super human players like Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Bobby Pires. We need to start giving the real talent games and stop trying to stop gap with poor players.”

Your fans want you to go out and buy success!
That’s not the Arsenal way is it..?????

  135. Remember we were in wide positions very much yesterday. Crosses were poor, movement was non-existent (admitedly Chelsea were very defensive) but the positive thing is they got into wide positions to take advantage. The next step is to improve on that and be able to be more direct.

  136. If the game had finished 3-2 or even 4-2 I would feel a lot better. We should at least be good at one thing.

Yesterday we were not good enough in attack and in defence.

We did win the midfield battle. Scant consolation. No point for possession or winning the ball back.

  137. I’m worried about SToke, there a tough team and our little players will get battered again.

Did anyone see when Joe Cole outmuscled Denilson who’s supposed to be our Midfield Dynamo? Joe cole is one of there weaker players, it was embarrasing.

God I miss Ade, he would of got right in there face. Eduardo, Nasri, Walcott and Arshavin were absolute shit and its just not good enough.

  138. @ Ole Gunner:

I can’t remember all of them from the top of my head this season but a lot were avoidable. Wenger’s admitted he wants concentration and mentality in his defenders and midfielders respectively. That comes with experience, not really his choice in a sense with all the young players, ideally he’ll like more experienced heads.

That’s one of the reasons why he’s moved to a 4-3-3 to defend from the front as they are not yet adept tactically and mentally. So it could be a matter of choices, concentration, tactical acumen.

Another is that we are more expansive and the defense is then given more work as more space is available at back. It’s easier to score with more space and against a less organised defence. They get ample one-on-ones and attack with speed.

  139. I think you forgot to mention Chelsea had a nailed on penalty turned down and an offside call that would have most likely have been a goal..

5-1 would have been a fair result..

  140. Where have most of the goals we’ve let in come from? Last three years it can be analysed from long balls through middle, knock downs and counter attacks. What is is mostly this year? Hard to pin down isn’t it.

  141. Were Chelsea better than us yesterday? Well we certainly had more possession than they did and their defence was made to work a lot more than ours, but it is not about possession, its about scoring goals and not conceding them. In defence YW pointed it out, “Twice Cole crossed from the left, playing the ball into an area of the box rather than at the man. Twice Chelsea scored. Once is an avoidable error, twice is carelessness. Having failed to close the opportunity for Cole to cross previously, the expectation quite reasonably is that the midfield / defence block the next occasion it arose. Arsenal failed to do so”. In attack it appears to be a reoccurrence of a worrying trend from the past which I hoped we were over, the inability to break down a defence lined up in front of us. RVP’s ability to so convincingly step into the centre foward’s role maybe clouded an issue we are still unwilling to address – we are missing a centre forward who can play with his back to goal. A player who can go toe to toe with the big centre backs. We have too many nippy little guys and changing the personnel around in the second half yesterday made little difference when we were just replacing like for like.
There is so much talent in this squad, but we are just moving deck chairs on the Titanic until we buy our target man.

  142. I have it in my head, Brain, than Gallas and Vermaelen are better than Gallas and Toure. Every time I see the latter playing for man city it supports my view.

Now you are the tactical analysis bloke. Explain what why the stats do not bear out this belief.

  143. RedTrev, you seem to read what you want to read…I referred to Eduardo’s confidence not his fitness…and I referred to Samir Nasri playing himself into form…not his fitness either.

  144. Sounds like I am suggesting we buy a player with some kind of deformity, “a centre forward who can play with his back to goal. A player who can go toe to toe with the big centre backs”.

Not sure how he’s going to do both at the same time unless his feet face the wrong way.

  145. Van Persie out hurt the Gunenrs. This was huge. Drogba is a killer. He is the main man for Chelsea. Drogba is a match changer. Mistakes kill ya. This is exactly what happened.
Cole’s crosses were killers. Why? They are seemingly not dangerous but in the end they kill you. Drogba’s goal and the own goal. Defensive lapses yes. But killers just the same.
The good news is this. Chelsea will loses at least twice possibly three more times this season. The EPL champ will have between four and six losses.
The season is far from over. http://bobbygee.wordpress.com/

  146. Ole – if there are no excuses to be made then all that can be said is that we got spanked by a superior team at home. We certainly got spanked at home.

If that is the end of the story and they are just much better then we can forget the league title this year.

Personally though I think we can come back and mount a strong challenge. I think Chelsea will drop a notch as the season progresses, they are just bang in form right now. I think we will get better than we are now and where yesterday.

we were rubbish. this team though is not rubbish. That we lost doesn’t mean that we need to throw the towell in or any sort of analysis of why we lost that thinks we were better than the game we played really is hiding in excuses.

  147. Frank,

Nasri has been playing himself into form since he arrived. He’s had two or three great peformances and the rest have been very, very average. Unfirtunately he is no Bobby Pires and never will be.

  148. @ consolsbob: I should come with a consultancy charge. Actually, something totally unrelated to this topic; I’m thinking about starting a scouting company. Just need the cash……

Um, getting back to your question. I think I answered it already if you scroll up but I’ll produce an almagmation of it below:

    1) Let’s remember the way the side plays is a difficult balancing act; first you need to stretch play when attacking but the total opposite is required when defending which is to squeeze play.

2)Attacking is the one part of defending in this system which is defending from the front. Also if the side is more effective this will make an easier juggling act. Barcelona and Wigan have played this way; the former suffocate opponents through constant attack and pressure. The latter just haven’t got the skills to be as consistent either on the ball, defensively or ruthlessness.

    3) the more expansive a side gets, the more strain it puts at the back.

The Dutch ‘74 side certainlt wouldn’t.

We’re swimming against a tough current – but we’re learning each match how to be more perfect. You can see that in Wenger’s reactions now and his subs also (although they didn’t work yesterday).

    4) I can’t remember all of them from the top of my head this season but a lot were avoidable.

  149. The Beautiful Game

    @RedTrev

So you cant answer the question. That all I need to know.

  150. I heard you have some briliant youngsters coming through, why don’t you give them a run out?…

  151. Here are the goals;

Everton: Eboue & Song failed to track the runner, Almunia’s save falls luckily to Saha.

Pompey: Almunia in generous mood fails to claim a simple high ball.

Man poo: Rooney dives to win a penalty (he did the same trick at Pompey on Saturday). Diaby scores a beautiful own goal after smoking some pot.

Man City: Vermaelen loses header to Richards, ball rebounds in luckily off Almunia’s back. Goal 2. Song lets Richards get past him after smoking pot and losing concentration. Third goal; We stop playing after linesman flags, they cross, and Vermaelen fails to cut out cross or stay tight to his marker Adebayor. 4th goal; We’re caught on the break and Vermaelen lunges for the ball instead of backing off, he misses, SWP is played in.

Blackburn: Vermaelen loses header to Nzonzi, Mannone’s position slightly wrong. Song out of position as Diouf hoof luckily drops for Blackburn player. Dunn’s ball is deflected in off Gallas.

West Ham: Mannone’s technique was bad as he punched the ball back into the danger area. Cole scores. Second goal: A non-existent penalty

Wolves: From a corner, Vermaelen loses his marker, and stunningly ducks as header flies towards goal.

Sunderland: From a corner, Vermaelen is beaten by Bent, header is flying out for a goal kick, ball hits Campbell’s shin and rebounds kindly for Bent to score. No Arsenal player ….Rosicky, Song, Almunia, reacted fast enough.

Chelski: Denilson fails to put in a challenge, Arshavin misses an attempt to intercept instead of tracking Cashley, Sagna runs back to defend but his body position is all wrong, he’s turned one way, then the other, he fails to throw his body at the ball to prevent the cross going in, Gallas fails to clear a ball he could reach, Drogba’s touch is poor but ball goes in off the post and bar. 2nd goal: Throw-in, no closing down of Cashley, cross is not snuffed out by Gallas who take an absent minded swing at it, Vermaelen absent-mindedly swings at it and scores spectacularly. Third goal. Unstoppable rocket from Drogba.

  152. Yep. Watch them against Citeh.

  153. Beautiful game,

    What question?

  154. Yes you are right, RedTrev…this is his first full season and he is just back from a broken leg. One of our many, many serious casulaties. He is a fantastic player…

  155. …second full season

  156. We are not working as hard to close down the ball as we were at the start of the season. We slip into a defensive attitude that seems to think that longer we back away the sooner they will give us the ball back.

For a team built as ours is and with its philosophy, Barcelona are the model.

They played well but not brillinatly last night. However, there kepper made a one-on-one save when needed early and Puyol and Pigue were immense. Must have been 7 last ditch blocks from them in the game.

Pique rubbishes the idea taht you cannot be a tall, commanding CB in a team that plays attacking football high up the pitch.

It is possible and very necessary to do both sides of the game well. The great dutch team we are apparently emulating won less than many teams that they were ‘better’ than.

If we need to buy I do not think it is upfront. If we do, I would buy a new left back, centre back and midfielder and tell fabianski that if he cant convince before the end of the season we will buy and put him back on the bench.

That siad, I think this team can do the business, but they must work much harder as a whole and fight front to back when we lose the ball. That is a mental problem, not a physical or skill issue.

  157. @ Ole: Just a few things I ‘d like to add too.

Everton: Concentration, tactical but also I think it was a counter attack. Am I right or wrong?

Pompey: Avoidable. Loopy ball yes, but needed a bit more decisiveness about him.

Man poo: Good run from Rooney, good ball from Giggs (a bit of space, maybe), good dive. Diaby. Bad neck rotations.

Man City: Counter mainly. Concentration and Almunia’s back.

    Blackburn: Positioning, counter through one-on-ones.

West Ham: Manonne beaten by swerve, no real excuse from him there. Arsenal unable to sustain West Ham pressure for most of game, punished by stupid penalty.

    Wolves: Marking from set-piece. Again.

Sunderland: Again, Anticipation, concentration, braveness maybe. Vermaelen in all reality seemed the only one wanting it.

Chelski: You’ve said everything I need to say on that except Ancelotti planned for all this. He said the team will lose balance when defending after exerting too much energy and resources going foward and can exploit lack of organisation. Did so through channels, late runs and transitions.

  158. I think it’s a mental problem. It’s really baffling though. Every mistake of ours seems to lead to us conceding.

  159. If I have to express a concern about our defence it is about relying on William Gallas. Let us just put it down to age.

  160. Ole – so mental errors, poor goalkeeping and vermaalen are the main causes of our conceded goals.

The first the manager should fix. The last may have to do with the fact that a 5’11 player get assigned to mark the oppositions tallest players and best headers, or maybe growing pains at making a step up in quality, or maybe he is not a sgood as we think. Fabianski should play in goal. He might get the job from wednesday on if he does well.

  161. Actually, I’ve had an article planned in ages about mentality. With the unprecedented amount of other commitments, I have (I’m doing something else while commenting on ACLF), I don’t know if I’m ever going to complete it.

  162. Surely timing and athleticism are more important in being a successful header of the ball, than the height of the player.

  163. The Brain,

At Everton it wasn’t a counter attack. Denilson, Eboue & Song smoked pot and decided there was no point tracking the runner.

At Man City….only the fourth would I call a real counter attack. The other three we had a mass of bodied behind and around the ball.

Maybe it’s simple complacency/lack of determination.

  164. Mentality?…please spare us, Brain.

  165. You seem to be picking at a scab, OG

  166. Frank, from open play maybe, but with set-plays height makes a difference.

Going by Ole’s summary, 4 goals, a quarter of our total conceded have come through one player getting beaten at set-plays repeatedly.

  167. This squad is really developing now, but I belive that the centre-half combination is still a work in progress for AW. We opt to attack the opposotion, pin them back and score more than them. This often works, but to work more often it requires us to have two very athletic and alert centre-halfs. We have one at the moment because WG is a couple of years past his best.

  168. Who is the guy saying Nasri needs to step up, and is not a Pires?

The guy has just come back from a broken leg!

And in his first season, i would say he performed better, and at a younger age, than Pires did in his first season at the club.

    Nasri is a class act.

  169. Top level football is very much about mentality but how you define it is another question altogether. Some have it very thinly, i.e. concentration or willingness others more broadly, tactical acumen, vision to go with the others.

It’s a combination of factors which has led to letting goals this season, right down to that way the team is play attacking wide, which hopefully you guys have read as it took me a long time to type it.

Arrigo Sachhi, the zealot but fantastic former AC Milan coach used to have his side practice defendind with five back, all organised against ten unorganised attacking men. The result; the defending side always won. Rafa Bentiz is a keen follower as is Capello, Mourinho. Actually, defensively the latter has been the best in implementing the tactics but the thing with Sacchi’s sides was that they were exciting to watch also. Something to look up on if you’re interested in that side of the game.

  170. I think that if djourou had stayed fit he would be first choice now. A big loss.

He and RVP both out for the season is gutting.

We need to move on though. With senderos and silvestre out of contract at the end of the year, january would be a good time to invest.

  171. Scroll up to read my other comments on how we play affects our defending. Thanks.

  172. I am not able to go regularly to games, so having gone to 2 matches in a few days, was a pleasant exception.

My impression of yesterday’s game was simply that Chesea sat back and let us do all the attacking. There defence is excellent, and we did not have enough craft to get round them. But it was not the way of champions, just excellent tacticians. Much as I hate Manure, they would be embarrassed to succeed playing like that.

Eduardo needs time to grow into the position of central striker.

Theo was disappointing, but, as we saw at the end of last season, against the good sides he is ineffective.

Arshavin just was not there yesterday.

Chelsea’s first 2 goals, were more flukes than intended. For the first one, the ball hit Drogba, not the other way around, and the second, like most own goals was also a matter of luck, rather than skill.

Why the referee allowed so many nasty tackles by Chelsea players, only he will know. Had he kept proper discipline and stopped the bad tackles, the game would have been different. How many times did the Arsenal physio come on the ptich and how many times did theirs?

I was surprised that I was not upset. I think this was because I knew that the defeat had less to do with what our players were doing, than to do with bad fortune.

Yes, there is plenty of scope to improve. It will take a while for Eduardo to get used to a different role, so we must expect a dip in form, but it is November and we always seem to do less well in November.

  173. Frank,

I’m honestly baffled by the whole thing.

    arseneholis;

Yes that’s true. But the fact the he’s the one who keeps getting beaten doesn’t mean it’s all his fault.

  174. Drogba’s first goal wasn’t a fluke – it was a very good finish.

  175. Having dissected and analysed the game for the benefit of the chav fans at work and fending off accussations of being dominated and battered, let me say my love for the Arsenal is as infinite as ever.

It seem to me that we are currently still alittle to prone to opposition flurries. Both Man u and Chelsea scored 2 in 5 and Man City scored 3 in 10. We need to learn to regroup much sooner.

Defensively, both Gallas and Vermaelen played well yesterday limiting the always hungry and dangerous Drogba and Anelka’s chances. Traore was fantastic on the left. Our Midfield was fantastic too, controlling that area of the pitch moreso than Chelsea’s.

This loss wounded Wenger’s pride. You could see it in his eyes. He wanted this victory and his men didn’t perform, but I think they’ll bounce back and go on a magnificent run. We probably won’t win the premier league, but let’s take everything else.

My love for the Arsenal is unyielding and I shalln’t deny my love thrice, twice, or even once. In the face of the chav gloating, I’ll stand firm knowing our deliverance shall come

  176. There are a lot of disappointed people about who are looking for someone or something to vent their anger. I guess it’s only human. But at the end of the day, no amount of ranting on message boards will change what happened or bring about the necessary improvements on the pitch. The manager, the coaching staff and the players are the only ones who can make that happen. What we can do though is support the team through thick and thin. I haven’t seen much of that today.

  177. Some very logical and sensible points made on the blog.

The only problem is the crowing and carping coming from the ‘They don’t like it up ‘em’ Frank Spencer school of football fans.

If only Walcott Nasri & Vela weren’t playing in their second pre-season warm up game, if only Bendy and Diaby had been fit, I think the team would have played with more swagger.

Traore had a game to be proud of.
I only suggested Eboue at LB because he has been playing with great flair and confidence this season, & the composition of the starting eleven on Sunday had to many players coming back or struggling from injuries to be confident in their form. Traore was in his second start? That was the difference between the two teams, some of our players yesterday had only played training games together this season. Is it not quite difficult to move from training & practice to execution at the highest level in any discipline? Confidence has taken a further blow, and as we all know, confidence is easily lost, but hard to regain.

Anyone who thinks the squad is not stronger this year (barring two big target men, ie: two plan B’s, only one in this squad currently) is deluded.

As far as I can tell the differences between the top game in Spain and England yesterday, between the two short passing sides of arsenal & Barca was:
Barca kept a clean sheet, and when Alves crossed early, the big man Ibrah was on hand to knock it in after just coming on for Henry. That was possibly the ‘plan B’ they lacked last year, and it’s why they traded Ibrah for Eto?
Yesterday we missed our two most mature strikers (Eduardo is still recovering and needs to be given space and time), and were poor defensively.
A big positive was Rosicky showing yet again what an amazing player he is. I do prefer to see him playing from a deeper, midfield position. But like Eduardo, his form and fitness will be inconsistent for a little while yet.

  178. …or even yesterday, Passenal.

  179. We are the best, most beatuful, by far the greatest team in the world…. In the middle third.

No worries, being slapped 3-0 is never nice, particularly against the chavs, but come on Arsenal, lets go beat citeh, beat Stoke and win the league.

    We love you Arsenal

  180. Two most mature strikers = RVP & Bendtner.

  181. lol you make me laugh finsburyparker

  182. This team completely lacks power. Arsenal will not wins the league unil this structural error is rectified. Even Barcelona in Pique, Puyol, Keita, Toure & Ibrahimavic have much more power than Arsenal. In addition, we have to accept that Eduardo is rubbish and we need new striking options

  183. In a good way I hope KS.

  184. in pity..

  185. Well according to these laughing doctor’s in Mumbai, India, laughter can be therapeutic!

  186. If this is Chelsea bang in form as lots here seem to suggest – I think we can be very confident that they will drop points both home and away. Going forward, which they managed to do only very rarely, they were stilted and unimaginative. They got very, very lucky yesterday.

  187. Great post Gadget.

  188. I agree with LimparAssist

  189. The biggest disappointment yesterday though – as has been pointed out – was the leave-early brigade. Fucking disgraceful. The arrogance of doing that is a joke and can only be symptomatic of those that are very new to Arsenal and very new to the game of football.

  190. Matt,

Watch it again. It could have gone anywhere. It could have come back off the post. The ball hit Drogba.

  191. Btw, RedTrev, I’m guessing you’re on a wind up. That’s fair enough – if a little creepy, but if you really are Arsenal then you must be the biggest cunt in the universe.

  192. Btw, R$dTr*vor, I’m guessing you’re on a wind up. That’s fair enough – if a little creepy, but if you really are Arsenal then you must be the biggest c*nt in the universe.

  193. Limparassist, don’t you think we’ll drop more points home and away? Chelsea is no doubt the stronger team because they have bought high quality players with experience.

We won the league with a similar high quality squad of players. We can’t expect to beat the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd with our current offering of emerging youngsters.

Time Wenger gets his cheque book out and finds some quality players. We definitely could do with a new striker now that RVP is injured for the season.

  194. Sagna added: “It was like our match against Sunderland, we could not really create any opportunities.

“The absence of Van Persie has weighed a lot — we have to find a solution.

“Now we can’t fool ourselves, the gap was too large between the two sides.

“Chelsea were stronger, they were better in the challenges, possession of the ball, passes.

“Last season we got a lot of points against big four teams but we failed against some ‘minnows’

DIDN’T KNOW LE SAGNA’S ENGLISH WAS THIS GOOD….LOL

  195. Ole,

I have watched it again – and Drogba opened up his foot and made good contact, and the ball went in.

That is what a good striker does.

It may not of gone exactly where he intended, but it hit the back of the net, so it was a good finish.

It certainly didn’t just hit him and go in.

  196. Was moderated for saying laughter can be therapeutic. I’m guessing YW may be not in the best of moods. Fair enough.

The site of all those fans leaving really was disgusting. I’m still upset at that, not the result.

  197. I’m in mod. for saying laughter can be therapeutic. I’m guessing YW may be not in the best of moods. Fair enough.

The site of all those fans leaving really was disgusting. I’m upset at that too, not the result.

  198. Anyway – who really cares – it went in.

  199. I disagree, Matt but it’s an unimportant point. To me that ball could have gone anywhere. I don’t call that a good finish.

  200. I agree with Matt, it was a clever finish. Drogba knew what he was doing.

    Lets not live in denial.

  201. bendtner and diaby are not going to save our season…. sorry

  202. Oh the tosser is back. Hi, word.

  203. DAVE, you shouty, LOLing prat – if winning ugly means playing like Chelsea – you can shove it up your Richie Rich, Fulham-born arse.

F*ck winning ugly, f*ck Chelsea – this is why you’ll be remembered alongside Leeds in the 70s and Utd in the 90s. You are like the German national team – efficient and boring as f*ck. Noone likes you. The football pantheon honours those that attack. Not those that sit back and bore people. Football remembers Real in the late 50s, Ajax and Holland in the 70s, Brazil throughout the ages, and Arsenal under Arsene Wenger. This Chelsea side will not live long in the memory, just as no other Chelsea side has ever done. You’re just not very palatable.

What’s it like to have Didier Drogba’s salty bulb LOLing on your tongue, DAVE?

  204. It’s finally taken people a while the advantages Ibrahimovic gives Bracelona. He’s like a upscaled version of RVP in that he can drop off like the Dutch striker with his movement but has the ability to be a direct outlet. Wenger wanted him and that’s why Bendtner can be the key to Arsenal’s play in the next few months.

The key difference is in the head and Zlat is streets ahead but Niki B can catch up.

  205. The point is that the ‘season’ does not need to be ‘saved’. We just have to get back into the groove again, and we will. No particular player will be resposnible for this…it is a squad thing.

Presumably you were away shovelling some of that cash you keep under the floorboards into a GOSH bucket, word. You being very wealthy and all.

  206. Ibrahimovic is not an upscale, RvP….and he only plays when he feels like it.

  207. The Brain Zlat is an amazing striker and one day Bendy perhaps can be as good, but and this is a big but, this is not the direction Wenger wants this team to take (as we’ve seen since the start of the season)

In a similar way a couple of days before yesterday Pep admitted that Villa was his 1st choice but took Zlat as his second ..

Would like to get into a debate but have to go ..

    Ciou

  208. Bendtner is second rate at best. Not in the same league as Ibrahimovic. I really don’t see what Wenger sees in him.

Another cheap option who is failing to deliver the goods.

  209. You don’t really like Arsenal players very much, Gooner1, do you?

  210. i think a major big hitting striker maybe like dzeko could ‘save’ our season in a sense although dont worry i fully appreiciate we are very close to being a top side. But thats kinda of what hurts (without trying to sound spoilt) – we are so close to being a top side that really we should just push the boat out that little bit further and garantee success.

  211. Frank, I like the quality players in our side that can make a difference.

Bendtner is not one of them. He’s not a first team player.

  212. Actually he is a first team player, Gooner1. Very much a part of the side which had such a successful start to the season. You just don’t like him. Which is a strange way to support a football team really.

  213. Nothing strange about it. To me, supporting a football team does not mean agreeing with everything the manager/team does. I, like many others, have not seen anything in Bendtner to suggest he is going to become a top rate striker for us. I’d rather we got rid of him.

  214. Frank,

RVP has been our best and most creative player by far this season. Without him we will struggle to get into the groove.

I agree with Gooner1, Bendtner is a decent striker but he is not good enough to win us the league or the champions league, especially now Arshavin looks like his form has left him

  215. Losing RVP is like Man Utd losing Rooney or Chelsea losing Drogba.

RVP is a key player for us if we are to win trophies this season. His loss is massive and its something Wenger needs to address.

If it means buying a striker in January, then so be it.

  216. we did miss the option of bendtner no doubt but he is not likely to just slot in exactly to RVP’s role for the long term. You pissed me off before a couple of weeks ago infact when RVP first got injured (4 poeple attacked me for being a doomer boo hoo) – I suggested that we will Struggle with one man effectively leading the line (as RVP did at the start of the season) because it is a very hard role to play. I suggested we might need to revert to 442 to give edu some company (vela please). guess what? my predictiops were right against chelsea. we should however be fine against lesser teams in 433 but as i said before we could do with a firmer 442 ‘plan b’ option.

the problem is we have been so good this season because of our 2 DMs at the back partnership, when song came off we played more 442 i think and suddenly we are seeing the problems we had last season again. cesc doesn’t have the same feedom considering how far forward our full backs get.

A balance of fine proportions is required but Im sure arsene has already taken measures.

  217. word,

We only misseed Bendtner because Eduardo was so woefull.

Both Eduardo and Bendtner are about three classes down from RVP

  218. Gooner1 did not say that Nic is a decent striker…quite the opposite. You guys have got a miserable, miserable season ahead, RedTrev, because you don’t really see any value in the squad at all.

They will turn it around and Nic Bendtner will play a major part in that.

  219. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Hahah Hiddink and Mourinho are available and Arsene is on the hot seat. huh?

You thick, Le Grove reading mongoloid. Doomers and their love of all things Chelsea, past and present. It’s becoming laughable. It’s a sad world, when this Championship Manager generation of support are green with envy when it comes to the construction of the modern day Chavs and their style of play. It makes me sick to my stomach. And it makes me want to physically fight our own supporters. Thank God I don’t live in North London.

  220. To be honest, I’m more angry about Van Persie’s injury than the defeat to the Cham$ki’s.

Not trying to put the last two defeats on it, but Van Persie’s injury – in a useless international game – came at a time when our returning attacking force was not ready for it, Eduardo, Nasri, Rosicky, Walcott, Vela, and add to that Arshavin’s out of form.

Something has to be done about these useless internationals, the country should not have a regular first team player from the club if the game is a friendly. Let other 2nd string national players have their chance. It makes more sense, what use is Van Persie now if he’s out for 5 – 6 months and may not be in form when it’s time for WC games?

The loss to Sunderland now seems far more worse than losing to Chel$ki, at least if we won at Sunderland we would only be 8 points of the top with a game in hand.

We may be were not ready for Chel$ki at this time, but we should be ready for Sunderland.

It’s annoying, but my club in my eyes is still the best club in the world by a mile…no matter what.

  221. I do see value in our squad. I love the way we play and am highly impressed with the work Wenger has done with the youngsters – no doubt the team is progressing.

The question I have is whether this team is good enough to win titles? And the answer, for me, is no.

The team is behind Man Utd and Chelsea. I’m tired of going from one season to the next with the same old story…so much promise but no delivery.

Its time for things to change.

Wenger said that there were no excuses this time. This game against Chelsea was one where the team were ready for the challenge. The result proves how wrong he was.

Sorry guys, but please..lets face reality and not live in a fantasy world where everything is nice and rosy.

  222. We put all our eggs in a lone striker with an awful injury record. So once he gets injured we are clueless upfront. How can a manager of Wenger’s quality let this happen.Vela and Eduardo are just clones of each other

  223. Well, michael, we had Adebayor as an alternative last season. But he left.

Did we get a replacement? No.

    Perhaps now we should.

  224. As I said…you face a miserable season with no hope, Gooner1….becuase you prefer the look of other sides and have no faith. This squad will prevail with or without you. In the mean time you are attempting to make others as miserable as you are, which is a little unkind, don’t you think?

  225. That goes for you too, Michael.

  226. Frank, sorry if my posts are making you feel down about our chances this season. But what I am saying is my opinion based on facts and not written intentionally to bring doom and gloom to fellow supporters.

  227. No Frank, I think Gooner1 is talking about how shit we were yesterday and how we desperately need a top quality striker now that RVP is out for the whole season.

  228. I am not down about our chances, Gooner1, I believe that this squad will win the EPL and/or ECL. I am merely castigating you for trying to bring others down by creating a negative cloud around our squad.

  229. Limpar Assist@3.55pm

You say Chelsea were very lucky yesterday just like they were when they put 4 past us last season, just like Man Utd put 3 past us last season in the CL and just like Sunderland were last week.We are a great team the best in the league by far.We are just unlucky!!! and that is the excuse Wenger will keep on using if mugs like you keep buying it

  230. Well then you are wrong, Redtrev, he was talking about how poor he felt that Nic Bendtner is as a player.

  231. enough talking in circles for the day i think….

  232. Michael you’re the mug.

  233. Yes Frank…you’re not getting it….with every loss, we have to sign a player. If we didn’t score, sign a striker, if we concede an own goal, sign a defender, if we are out-muscled in the north in a game, sign a monster DM….and so on.

  234. Frank, fair enough, you are entitled to your opinion.

As I am entitled to mine.

You think the squad can win the EPL or ECL, then so be it. I don’t think they can based on historical evidence.

  235. It takes a special kind of person to evangelise against this manager and squad. Why would you even try, Michael. I actually don’t think you realise the enormity of your comments. The squad and system that this manager has built is on the verge of greatness…just becuase we have a hiccup people like you want to throw it all away and start again. Which will take many years and no guarantee of success. Why would you want to do that?

  236. Gooner 1

We sold Ade but didnt replace him that left us with RVP and Eduardo both injury prone Bendtner not good enough and Vela unproven,We could have signed Chamakh but Wenger would pay £5m.

  237. Gooner1,

I’m very curious to hear your historical evidence.

  238. According to a bunch of Chelsea fans my friend interrogated outside the stadium after the game, Arsenal were the more dominant team for the first forty minutes, and the only difference between the two teams on the day was Drogba. When I compare that assessment of yesterdays game with the comments of some Arsenal ‘fans’, it’s quite interesting.

Whatever the reasons for Eddy’s heavy touches yesterday, one would have thought that after having seen players such as Diaby crocked by cowards over the years that most Arsenal fans would have realised that for a professional footballer who’s been seriously injured for +12 months, as a vague generalisation approximately a further 12 months is required for that player to regain some consistency of strength and fitness, if ever.
For that reason I didn’t include Eddy in my list of senior strikers above, and only once he is settled & consistent in his fitness would it be fair for me to impose extra responsibility or expectations upon him.

  239. I think we can still win it. not with a miracle. With a good run of results. Look at it not point-wise, but like this.

    Arsenal- lost 4, draw 1
    Chelsea-lost 2, draw 0.

if they lose 2 games, which can happen when they underestimate teams (wigan for example)and lose or draw some more and we keep winning, perhaps slipping a little but being consistent, and beat them at s. bridge, we can win

    it’s not impossible.

We do seem f*cking destined to lose our game in hand though

  240. Gunner From Nigeria

All the articles i have read written about Arsenal in last 24 hours almost brought a depressive tears to my eyes.
It pains me to see the vultures that these writers are hovering around my beloved Arsenal because of a sorry 7days.
Alas! how has the mighty fallen?
If only our players would rise up and be counted so that these vultures can be put to shame.
    What more can i say?
Oh! Arsenal please arise lets these vultures be hacked down. Amen

  241. G4E,

Funny thing is it was people like the ones posting now who told us RVP wasn’t good enough at the start of the season.

  242. historical evidence? I’m sorry mate but what bullshit!!!!

  243. Injury prone bollocks. Players just get injured and statistically some will get more injured than others. Having 15 stone of gristle and bone and more than a few pounds of lard attached land on you with the express intent of damaging you is not injury prone. That is what just happened to RvP and happened to Eduardo some time ago. How long do you think that a player of RvPs world-class ability would sit on the bench not playing until RvP gets injured? You don’t go into the market for players who will not get injured in the future… the current squad will rise to the challenge and RvP will be back in Spring to finish it off…goals in all the semis and the important last 10 games of the EPL. Just be patient.

  244. thing is frank we have had similar poroblems for the last 4 years. is that just a blip?

  245. Chelski will lose games. Of course they will.

Let’s see how they get through the winter months. Their regular mid-season collapse will start any day now.

This time last season Chelski were about 5 points clear the top of the table as they are now.

They will lose many more game. It’s sure as good deodorant.

  246. If the EPL was a horse race, we havnt even finished the beginning stretch yet. There’s still the long middle part, from December to February, which will decide wether we’re still in it. At the beginning of the business end, 8 points off top spot i reckon and we’ll have a fighting chance.

I remain adament we’re destined to lose the game in hand, it would just be so us to do that.

    COME ON!!!!!

  247. No we haven’t, word. We have progressed gradually over the last four years with a revolutionary and developmental approach. Injuries have hit us at key parts of the season. But our squad are a tough and tenacious bunch of hombres with massive technical skills who will find a way through this latest set-back. Just watch them…and whilst you do, do try to stop whinging it is getting on my tits.

Fucking hell only two weeks ago everyone was singing our praises from the roof tops becuase of the sublime football we play. All I can say is I am glad that the players do not have the same attitude as some of our so-called supporters. We would be playing in the fucking Conference by now if they did.

  248. you’re right OG, and let’s see how they brave the month of January without Essien and more importantly, Drogba.

  249. Nasir Jones-Nasri

And I’d just like to say we need more Limpar Assist types supporting Arsenal. Hats off to you for your 4:26 comment. Bang on. Keep the faith.

    Long Live Arsene Wenger!

  250. Word,
i’ll explain why we didnt win these last 4 seasons.

2006/2007- Couldnt beat teams in the lower half, held to draws too many times.

2007/2008- The most depressing, f*cked up month of all our lives in the EPL thanks to 3 or 4 consecutive draws.

    2008/2009

Out of it this time last year, no Vermaelen, Arshavin, or experience

  251. I agree very nice post Limpar

  252. Ole G…the ones who are posting now are the ones who will be posting with every defeat not happy about the squad and asking always for more signings.

Nothing new with that. They will disappear when we start a winning run, and will appear when with the first loss.

  253. I just think it was a massive missed opportunity when you look at how we dominated the midfield and how average Chelsea were.

And yes, Michael, Chelsea got lucky. Our goal would have stood in 90% of other premiership games and would have come at a pivotal time time in the match.

  254. I thought Arshavin was what they wanted so bad, now that Arshavin is here, they want someone else?

I remember Passenal saying just wait until Arshavin’s form drop and the knives will be out in a flash…will guess what?

  255. We were fucked yesterday ! We didn’t play football at all,, I didn’t see determination and creativity. The second half,, our players were just standing there lazily waiting for the ref to blow the final whistle ! i was so disappointed,, we played at home, against one of our biggest rivals, in front of our fans, and we got battered. Let’s not blame Chelsea or the others,, see our team ! Our players are weak, have no strong mentality, and will always be losers.

Football is all about mixing. Maybe we have tons of brilliant young and talented players,, but they won’t win you titles. It has to be mixed with powerful players, experienced players, good manager, fanatic supporters, fine management, etc. Wenger HAS TO buy in January,, if he doesn’t,, we’re screwed.

Walcott is just another above average player. I don’t see the reason why he’s gaining 60,000 a week. He’s blessed with his dazzling speed but he can’t cross, he can’t shoot, he can’t link up with his team mates, he can’t timed his runs, and he can’t blablabla. Almunia ? Wtf is he doing wearing the number 1 shirt. He’s completely a mess this season. If he can’t bring back the last season’s performance,, he should be out next month. Eduardo is fucked this season,, he clearly can’t match in our 4-3-3 formation. Denilson should have been the one who do all the “dirty” job but instead of doing that,, he was harmed all day long yesterday. Sagna needs to perform if he doesn’t want Eboue to take his spot. Fuck off Arshavin,, hate to say this (as he’s my favourite player) but if he keeps his performances like this he should be benched.

Our tactics were nowhere near perfect. Ancelotti was a genius knowing with our shitty 4-3-3 formation we were weak on wings. It’s either we go back to 4-4-2 or we’re fucked until (at least) Bendtner comes back.

We don’t want excuses like our goal should be allowed again. We don’t want yet another trophyless season. We don’t want same mistakes to be repeated. We don’t want shitty players in our team. We don’t want to be supporters whose opinions are just thrown away like that. We have to look forward. Buy as many players as we can in January because injuries will strike again and again. Win the next game or we’re fucked. Enough from me.

  256. I wouldn’t bother, Zap, you will just get dragged down into the mire. Forget last season and the season before. AW always says there is no point looking back or dwelling on the negatives and he is right. If you have a belief in your approach then you must keep going. Arsenal are not just on the verge of sustaining a challenge and winning…but they will do so for many, many years to come. This is Chelskis swansong…and they will fail…and it will hurt them very badly because they believe that they have a divine right to win everything this year. But they are wrong. Just watch the away EPL fixture early next year…I promise you the result will be very, very different.

  257. You are not an Arsenal supporter are you, Renan.

  258. I’m honestly not putting this one on luck, we played well for 40 minutes but we made the first mistake. In these games, it’s very hard when you concede first, especially if the other team is in form.

We lost on the day, it doesn’t mean our players are permanently bad, it means they were bad on the day….that’s it.

  259. Nasir Jones-Nasri

And who are all these bored c*nts bringing Bendtner into this? Did he play yesterday? No. So shut the f*ck up about what you may or may not think he’s capable of, you sad mopey bastard.

And what a shock! All the doomers are now finally just coming to the realization that Ade is class and he was a big boost to the squad when healthy. Hope you pr*cks that wanted to run him out of town are happy, you spoiled f*cking brats.

  260. Gunner From Nigeria

The word “if” although conditional and speculative makes one to ponder what could have been.
Leave RVP, had Bendtner and Diaby been around both 6’4 and 6’2 respectively, it would have made alot of difference.
Its strange that the vultures’ favourite player has been one of our worst this season. I am referring to Arshavin. Eduardo’s struggles is understandable but, for heaven sake what is wrong with AA23?
If he doesn’t want to play, the bench…

  261. Nasir Jones-Nasri

What the f*ck happened to you Ole Gunner? Get a grip, pal. Justifying the c*nts that were waiting for RvP to fail now, huh? F*ck me. Your 5:24 comment is a load of bollocks.

  262. Frank

don’t get me wrong, i too hate dwelling on previous seasons, i just wanted to make a point. I too think chelski will struggle in the winter months, when

    a) They wont have essien or drogba throughout jan

    b) The cold will be too much for the fans and players to bear, and they will get cocky and underestimate teams like Hull and Stoke at home

  263. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Cancel that I misread your comment, probably due to the fact I’m quite angry right now. I apologize Ole. You’re definitely one of the good guys, and I don’t know how I misread that at first.

  264. I am also shocked that a.a is under so much critisism. he’s just traumatised abt not going to the world cup, imagine how you would feel abt not being able to go because of Slovenia?

Proffesionalism can’t prevail over emotions, for the time being anyway.

Hopefully anfield in a fortnight can give him some memories, and some spark.

    ARSENAL

  265. Nasir Jones,

    Your thick, be silent

  266. You are a star, zap

  267. Cant read all the comments but people are saying Chelsea are better than us and that I dont believe.

I think Ole said the individuals in defense and the goalie have to look at themselves in the mirror and get it together!
They are excellent players but we need to be more focused. For the second goal two players were defending Anelka while my friend Sagna left Cole open, unnaceptable.

I dont believe for a second that we are inferior.

  268. Paul N,

Its no shame not to be the best team in the the strongest league in the world, Chelsea have a great squad who are perfectly balanced and well organised. They have experience in abundance.

Thats why they just spanked us 3-0 at our own ground. We’ve still got a long way to go before were a complete team. To say anything else is just being delusional.

  269. RedTrev.

We all know we got slapped 3-0. We arent saying that we have more experience, Paul N isnt anyway,
he’s just saying on the day, they were nowhere near superior. We were, we always are. It’s unfortunately about taking chances though, and we didnt. Our beauty is what makes us a great club to follow

  270. Not just follow.
I almost cried of happiness when those fans sang ”we love you arsenal” when we went 3-0 down, as we were condemned to our 3rd and final slap of the evening.

I love Arsenal, I just wished the Emirates could hold all the true supporters

  271. Zap,

We didnt create one clear chance, you talk like a priest speaking bullshit to his subjects

  272. The true fans are the ones on the higher tiers and the one on the wrong side of the camera.
The rest are season-ticket holding buggers, excluding of course the middle executive tiers, which rather make a matchday feel like a bloody orchestra with all the clapping and so on.

Why cant the fans get that with some more atmoshphere, the team might just have more firepower and energy

  273. RedTrev, fuck off

  274. Zap, Chelsea have no atmosphere, home or away, so dont use our shit fans as an excuse.

We played shit, and got the spanking we deserved, be a man and get over it.

  275. Did I even fucking say that mate? We didnt play shit, we had more of the ball, just the same old story of continous passing around the box and they defended very well.

I’m not trying to cause trouble OK?

  276. MICHAEL, UR QUOTE IS LAUGHABLE AND HYPOCRITICAL

“We have problems all over the pitch
Either Kroenke or Ushmanov takes over and pumps money into the squad or we are stuck in 3rd or 4th place. Or is that all Fisman and co want”?

I THOUGHT U GUYS HATED CHELSEA BECAUSE OF OUR SO CALLED “SUGAR DADDY”…SEEMS LIKE YOU GUYS NEED UR OWN AMERICAN MAFIA OR MAYBE A RUSSIAN MAFIA…COPY CATS

LOL, WORD…” it’s a mirage. we lost to a fake team who should not even exist in the real world”….. IS THIS A NEW TALKING POINT FOR LE ARSE FANS…..SO BARCELONA MUST BE A FAKE TEAM THEN,IBRAHAMOVIC WAS BOUGHT FOR £70 MILLION….WENGUS WOULD RATHER DIE THAN SPEND THAT AMOUNT ON A SINGLE PLAYER….LOL.

AND I BET REAL MADRID IS ALSO A FAKE TEAM WITH THEIR 9 CHAMP’S LEAGUE TITLES….BUT THEY SPENT £400 MILLION ON PLAYERS JUST LAST YEAR….LE ARSE FANS ARE SO DELUDED…SO ARSE IS THE ONLY REAL CLUB….U ARE SUCH A JOKER.

LOL….ONEOFUS….UR LE PROFESSEUR IS SENILE AND DELUDED….DROG DIDN’T DO NOTHING IN THE GAME BUT SCORED TWO GOALS….FUNNY,SO IF HE BOTHERED,MAYBE 6 GOALS FROM DA DROG WOULD HAVE MADE WENGER TO PAY MORE RESPECT…HE CLAIMS VELA WHO DIVED LIKE A SWAN WAS A PENALTY BUT COULDN’T SEE SAGNA’S HOLD ON ANELKA AND VERMALOSE(OWN GOAL HERO) ON TERRY….SO HE SENDS U GUYS SOME STUPID E MAILS AFTERS LOSING BY THREE GOALS AT HOME TO HIS DIRECT RIVAL……REALLY CREEPY,.

..IT SEEMS HE WANTS THE LE ARSE FANS TO KEEP SINGING IN LE ARSE WE TRUST…LOL.WENGER SHOULD HAVE BEEN A POLITICIAN WITH SUCH A SPIN.

REDTREV,THANKS FOR AKNOWLEDGING THAT LE ARSE PLAYERS WEERE NUDGED OFF THE BALL LIKE FLIES…LOL.I WAS LAUGING AND CHEERING ON DA DROG WHEN TRAORE BOUNCE OFF HIM AND WENT FLYING AS IF HE WAS HIT BY A 20 TONNE TRUCK….LOL

The Beautiful Game IS ANOTHER DELUDED LE ARSE FAN…..” Chelsea were not the better team. They only had 1 shot on goal.”……SO CHELSEA WERE THE WERE NOT THAT GOOD BUT SCORED THREE GOALS…MOST SURPRISINGLY,ALL THREE GOALS CAME FROM ONE SHOT ON TARGET….SORRY,MATEY…IT SEEMS THE DEFEAT AFFECTED SOME PARTS OF YOUR BRAIN….DIDN’T KNOW CHAVS WERE MORE EDUCATED THAN THE FRENCH TEAM AT LE EMIRATES..LOL…DO SOME ELEMENTARY MATHS, DUDE

SOZ, RedTrev…U DIDN’T MAKE US LOOK GOOD,BUT WE MADE U GUYS PLAY LIKE LITTLE KIDS….MEN AGAINST BOYS…WE ARE NOT SPURS THAT GO TO THE EMIRATES TO WATCH U GUYS SCORE…LOL

REDTREV NEEDS ADE BACK…VERY FUNNY…AFTER U GUYS WERE ABUSED HIM AND CALLED HIM SOME RACIALLY INSENSITIVE NAMES…

FRANK, DROGBA CAME SECOND TO RIDICULOUS SONG BECAUSE HE REFUSED TO APPEAR IN PERSON TO GET THE AWARD….HOPE U DON’T ACTUALLY THINK SONG IS BETTER THAN DROG…MAYBE LE PROFESSEUR THINK SAME WAY 2,THAT Y DA DROG KEEP PUNISHING LE ARSE

    OLEGUNNER….” In statistical terms.
    Arsenal 0 Chelsea 3.
What says well-beaten better than that most basic of stats?”
U ARE THE ONLY GOONER ON THIS BLOG WITH A BRAIN
BUT IT SEEMS UR APE BRAIN GOT THE BETTER OF YOU WHEN U CALLED CHELSEA PLAYERS A BAND OF APES…LOL
FUNNY, ISN’T…BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD, THE MIGHTY LE ARSE …GETS BEATEN BY A BAND OF APES…WHAT A HEADLINE THAT WOULD BE…
I BET LE ARSE ARE FROM THE PALEOZOIC ERA THEN ,DUE TO THE GULF IN CLASS BETWEEN US AND U GUYS

YH, REDTREV, JOE COLE OUTMUSCLING DENILSON WAS VERY FUNNY…BECAUSE JOE COLE IS OUR WEAKEST PLAYER, BODY-WISE
OLE GUNNER,I THINK THE MENTAL SIDE OF THE GAME IS ONLY PART OF YOUR PROBLEM….BUT I DID LOVE THE LOOK ON FABREGAS’ FACE WHEN THE THIRD GOAL WENT…HE LOOKED LIKE A MAN,WHO HAD LOST EVERYTHING IN A HOUSE FIRE…LOL

HERE IS MY OPINION ON WHAT WENGER NEEDS TO DO:
(1)LE ARSE NEEDS TO EVOLVE…EVOLUTION AND CHANGE ARE THE ONLY SURE THINGS IN LIFE…BUY SOME GOOD PLAYERS…IF BARCA CAN SPEND £70 MILLION POUNDS ON ONE PLAYER (IBRAHAMOVIC) THEN WHO IS LE ARSE TO CLAIM IDEOLOGY AND TRADITION OVER BARCA

(2)STOP WITH THE STUPID SELLING CLUB BEHAVIOUR…..GROW A STAR TODAY,SELL HIM TOMORROW AND HAND OVER THE CASH TO SHAREHOLDERS…LEAVE SUCH BEHAVIOUR FOR MORGAN STANLEY AND GOLDMAN SACHS…U GUYS SOLD HENRY(BARCA),DIARRA(REAL MADRID),VIERA(INTER MILAN),ANELKA(CHELSEA),TOURE(MAN CITY) TO MENTION BUT A FEW …ADEBAYOR CREATED AN EXCELLENT ASSIST AT THE BRIDGE LAST YEAR BUT HE’S GONE TO ONE OF UR RIVALS FOR FOURTH PLACE IN THE EPL…LOL

(3)STOP DISCARDING YOUR PLAYERS ONCE THEY’RE CLOSE TO 29 YRS OLD…THIERY HENRY WAS GIVING REAL MADRID A TORRID TIME YESTERDAY…BUT HE WAS SOLD OFF ONCE HE TURNED 30…ARE U GUYS BETTER THAN BARCA…RYAN GIGGS IS 36,BUT HE STILL DOES THE BUSINESS FOR FILTY MANURE.ARE U GUYS BETTER THAN MANURE..HOW ABOUT SCHOLES AND THE REST OF THEM
DA DROG IS 31 BUT VERMALEAN, SONG AND TRAORE MUST HAVE THOUGHT HE IS UNDER 25 WITH THE WAY HE BRUSHED OFF SONG YESTERDAY…ONLY TO WRONFULLY CHANELLED THE BALL TO J COLE…DID U GUYS SEE HIS SPEED WHEN HE RAN OFF SONG…TRAORE WAS BOUNCING OF HIM ALL THROUGH YESTERDAY AND HE CONFUSED THE VERMINATOR (lol)…SO MUCH SO, THAT THE POOR LAD DECIDED TO SCORE AN OWN GOAL
THERE U HAVE IT….WORDS OF WISDOM FROM A “CHAV”.
    ALWAYS REMEMBER…”MEN AGAINST BOYS”
I HAVE PERSONALLY ENCOURAGE MORE DEBATE IN THIS ECHO CHAMBER…U GUYS WERE BASICALLY SINGING TO THE CHOIR ON THIS BLOG WHILE PATTING EACH OTHER ON THE BACK AFTER EVERY DEFEAT
    I’M OUT……..LOL

  277. Nasir Jones-Nasri

Not even close to being as thick as you and the people that brought you up Red Trev, you f*cking raving lunatic. You are filled with hate and don’t know what to do besides hate. I feel sorry for you and the people around you.

  278. RedTrev,

I agree there’s no shame in agreeing they’re better than us.

On the other hand they had a better squad than the mancs for three years and won nothing.

So I won’t 100 percent concede that to our boys.

We should not be losing 3-nil at home. Not ever.

Simply put we can and should do better.

  279. Ohhhh the doomers.

Just look at the Guardian “chalkboard’ stats to see how hard many of the Arsenal team worked (especially Traore and Sagna). It’s not too difficult for a top side to negate a beautiful playing team, if all you want to do is stuff the midfield and defence, and kill the game. If that is what you really want, then perhaps you should not be supporting the Arsenal.
Shit happens, didn’t Chelsea lose to Villa and Wigan? And it’s time Cech stopped wearing that hood to gain sympathy from the refs.
    C’mon Arsenal, f**k off doomers

  280. 3-0 didnt reflect the game though…

forget abt it c’mon, we can win the title come the summer

by which time DAVE will have started nursery!

  281. sorry, no exclamation mark intended

  282. Nasir Jones-Nasri

How many times can one post the same drivel, Dave?

F*ck off, you wish Chelski were as classy and honorable as The Mighty Arsenal. Your whole team from top to bottom are nothing but a bunch of crooks.

  283. Dave, save yourself the typing, no one is reading it.

  284. Fuck off Dave.

  285. . In fact you probably are a fucking 20 year old aren’t you. You been taking drugs? Probably,

no wonder you are under the illusion chelsea will win the epl, and no wonder you have caps lock on LIKE THIS LOL LOL

  286. COME ON,ZAP…HAVE SOME DECENCY…CURSING IS FOR PEOPLE WITHOUT CLASS…..U HAVE TO ADMIT THOUGH,I’VE GOT MORE CLASS.
U MUST BE A CHAV THEN COS THE FRENCH ARE MORE MANNERED

  287. I posted this in Untold Arsenal but it is worth reposting an excerpt here. At the outset let me be clear; we did not lose yesterday because of the referee but the outcome was decided by a pattern of biased refereeing that has been evident since the Eduardo incident, which BTW, he was completely cleared and exonerated.

“What concerns me, more than anything else, is that playing field is so tipped against Arsenal, especially in the hands of the referees yet there is no outrage expressed by the mass of Arsenal supporters. Many of them are too busy walking out on their own team when the chips are down, picking the bones looking for scapegoats, that they fail to take action to expose the lack of elemental fairness by referees, appointed the FA, to officiate Arsenal matches. Ole Gunner, a fellow poster at ACLF, identified 9 clear incidents this season when justifiable shouts of penalty were turned down. How many times have Man Utd, when chasing a game have been awarded penalties in the dying minutes of games, often to salvage a draw or to win a crucial game? Is it because …. our team doesn’t have an English spine that our supporters are quicker to say how great is Chelsea, rather the the referees are inept?

“Wenger says he can’t say too much about the referees; for obvious reasons. So what about the supporters? Caught up in their political correctness, are they afraid to say the truth?”

  288. I’M OUT……..LOL

Thank goodness for that Dave, but I bet that you cannot resist coming back to bore us some more with your “UR”, “LOL” and “DA DROG”.

  289. Nobody even reads what you say Frank

YW Please ban him, its taking up 50% of comment space bloody hell

  290. PASSENAL,U LIE….U’VE NOT BEEN READING COS U REFUSED TO LEARN HOW TO READ AND COMPREHEND

  291. DA DROG IS 31 BUT VERMALEAN, SONG AND
TRAORE MUST HAVE THOUGHT HE IS UNDER 25
WITH THE WAY HE BRUSHED OFF SONG YESTERDAY…ONLY TO WRONFULLY CHANELLED THE BALL TO J COLE…DID U GUYS SEE HIS SPEED WHEN HE RAN OFF SONG…TRAORE WAS BOUNCING OF HIM ALL THROUGH YESTERDAY AND HE CONFUSED THE VERMINATOR (lol)…SO MUCH SO, THAT THE POOR LAD DECIDED TO SCORE AN OWN GOAL

  292. Nasir Jones-Nasri

You have class? Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahah…….ah man that was a good one. Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

You’re nothing more than an envious Chav. Or else you wouldn’t be posting at such a time. Kicking us when we’re down may fill you with pride, but it only serves our opinion that you are a classless Chavvy twat.

  293. Dave fuck off seriously

  304. ZAP,IT SEEMS UR OBSESSED WITH ME …SO UR NOW DAVE NO 2,…..LOL.SORRY MATE,U CAN NEVER BE A DAVE BUT ONLY A ZAP…AS IN SOME KIND OF WILD ANIMAL…SOZ MATEY,IT SEEMS LE ARSE FANS ARE NOW PROJECTING THEIR DRUG FILLED LIFE STYLE…I BET U’VE DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW PROJECTING WORKS…..LOL
    GAY LE ARSE ZAP..

  305. Carlton Cole is out about as long as RVP will be. Could be a good choice though.

  306. You have a serious problem Dave. You see this is an Arsenal supporters site. We say things that show our love of the club. We moan a bit because all fans do when things go wrong. We have differences of opinions. In general though, those who post here have npthing but contempt for the ‘buy a title’ approach.

It’s unnatural for you to spend so much time here.

Tell me, I’m curious, can you post a link to show us what you are saying on a Chelsea fan’s site? I’d like to know.

    Otherwise, just fuck off.

  307. ZAP WANTS SOMEBODY BANNED…LOL.BOY,IF U WERE GORDON BROWN,WE WILL ALL BE YOUR SLAVES NOW….IT SEEMS U CAN’T STAND OPPOSING VIEW POINT…LOL.U NEED UR MEDS,MATE

  308. just do everyone a favour, and bugger off.

Why are you on here anyway? Is there a secret love for Arsenal you want to confess?

  309. I wanted you banned you twat

  310. REDTREV NEEDS ADE BACK…VERY FUNNY…AFTER U GUYS WERE ABUSED AND CALLED HIM SOME RACIALLY INSENSITIVE NAMES…

  311. Sorry Frank, I got the names mixed up.

Unlike you, I am a normal, decent human being.

I’m not even gonna curse you, I just feel sorry for you. Get some help

  312. That was for you dave. You obvioulsy need reminding what with your attention span

  313. Don’t feed the troll guys…just let him bark until he gets tired then he will go to sleep.

  314. I do find myself wondering if I should have had a pie after all yesterday. Might have made all the difference. But you can’t blame yourself for these things can you? That way madness lies. Still I made nearly two grand on the Joe Cole shorts. Might send a bit to GOSH. Might spend a bit on fake cameras and other electronic goods to throw at opposition players……second thoughts I might buy up a few to sell. Invest it…plough it back in. Basic economics…good business sense.

  315. So we’re cool Frank??

  316. Oh I forgot to mention…you know the Dutch medical team who misdiagnosed Robin’s ligament tear? Well they won’t be doing that again.

  317. consolsbob AND ZAP….I’M HERE BECAUSE I WAS TIRED OF ALL THE BRAGGING BY LE ARSE FANS ON HOW THE SO CALLED “CHAVS” WILL BE TRASHED AT THE EMIRATES….ABUSING MY BELOVED CLUB WITH UR STUPID ARTICLE ABOUT EXAMINING THE GAP BETWEEN LE ARSE AND CHELSEA…APPARENTLY SOME OF UR FANS LOVED THE ARTICLE TO BITS AND POSTED LINKS EVERYWHERE….I WILL ONLY LEAVE AFTER U GUYS ADMIT THAT THE GAP BETWEEN CHELSEA AND LE ARSE IS A DEFEAT BY A 3 GOAL MARGIN AT THE EMIRATES….FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS..LOL

  318. What they’re fired??

  319. Yep we are cool, Zap. Actually I am freezing, I might even switch on a bar on my electric fire tonight. Luxury I know…but I think I might push the boat out.

  320. Dammit! Sorry Frank, some of my last comments may have given the illusion that I’m directing comments at you- they are all at dave

  321. Enjoy the swansong, Chelski fans. It will be over by January….and you will be steadily making your way downwards. This is your glory season and it is about to falter. Drogba will be gone in January…and then injuries, in-fighting….

  322. It really is OK, Zap

  323. haha, this weather is just depressing.

  324. ZAP…MY GOOD FRIEND…APPARENTLY,I’VE SO CONFUSED YOU THAT YOU ARE NOW ASKING FOR UR FELLOW LE ARSE FANS TO BE BANNED…JUST LIKE VERMALINATOR(LOL) WAS CONFUSED YESTERDAY AND SCORED AN OWN GOAL..LE ARSE PLAYERS LACK MENTAL FORTITUDE…SAME GOES FOR THE FANS

  325. It seems Dave has small intervals of falling on the ground and shaking his/her/it’s legs vigorously- scientifically called doing the drogba- Is that your daily routine?
    do the drogba-post-do the drogba-post

  326. If you went down 3-0 would you stand up and sing, and smile at the fact you are watching your team with pride, no matter what the score is?. I think your travelling lot had a bit of a shock when they saw the remaining gooners sing we love you arsenal…they would never be loyal at the bridge under the similar circumstances

  327. Dave doesn’t exist. Classis troll behaviour. Ask him a question and he ignores it. He’s just another twat. Obviously he has nothing to say on a chav site. Only so much you can say about Chelsea I suppose.

Delusional too. He can post forever if he’s got the time to waste.

Still, one last go. Why do your players wear shorts two sizes too small?

  328. FRANK…IF DROGBA GOES,WE’VE GOT ANELKA(HIGHEST GOAL SCORER LAST SEASON)REMEMBER…LOL…THOSE SILLY THINGS CALLED STATISTICS…WE FEAR NOBODY IN JANUARY…NOT BURNLEY(WE’VE ALREADY TRASHED THEM)…NOT EVEN HULL(ALTHOUGH THEY TRASHED U GUYS LAST SEASON..LOL
WE’VE ALSO GOT MALOUDA,JOE COLE,DECO AND A HOST OF OTHERS…U GUYS SHOULD BE THE WORRIED ONES BECAUSE WITHOUT SONG…LE ARSE WILL CONCEDE CHEAP GOALS…LOL

  329. …..and Dave is back to doing a Drogba- soon he will type up some fresh nonsense

  330. Let us just wait and see, Dave. I am more than content to do that. Looking forward to it in fact.

  331. Btw…Nicolas Anelka? Ashley Cole?…you have a loyalty problem there,son, time-bombs waiting to explode.

  332. ZAP,NO….U DIDN’T TALK ABOUT FANS, DID YOU…APPARENTLY, U ARE AS DELUDED AS THE ECONOMICS TEACHER,LE PROFESSEUR WORMGUS….UR FAIR WEATHER FANS DISAPPEARED ON THE 75TH MINUTE OF PLAY…WHEN DROGBA SCORED HIS FREEKICK..ALL I SAW LEFT OF LE ARSE FANS WERE RED PLASTIC…LOL.LET ME NOT INSULT THE PLASTIC SEATS ANYWAY..ATLEAST THEY’RE ALWAYS THERE COME RAIN OR SHINE UNLIKE THE PLASTIC FANS…HO…HO.HO

  333. For Wednesday…

  334. Quite cathartic this…

  335. consolsbob,SO THAT MAN-LOVING LE ARSE FANS CAN GET A HARD-ON…LOL

  336. Dave, true Arsenal fans cannot be contended with-dont think the ones who go to the emirates are fair representatives of the backbone of the support- maybe the backbone of income, but not true support-

oh, I’m sorry, was representatives too long a word for you- let me break it down… rep…re..sen…ta…tives

Did you get that? Good boy

  337. FRANK,THOSE TWO ARE AS LOYAL AS ANYBODY IN THE CHELSEA TEAM …ANELKA HAS ALREADY SAID HE’S SPENDING THE REST OF HIS CAREER AT THE BRIDGE…UNLIKE DISLOYAL FABREGAS…WHO HAS ALWAYS BEEN FLIRTING WITH BARCELONA…LOL
ARSENAL WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE HIS SECOND CHOICE…HE WILL GO BACK HOME..LOL

  338. Interesting choice Limpar, you know what i reckon Walcott will also been given a start, considering how desperate he is to recover form and confidence as we will be looking to use him more regularly in the coming months….

  339. LimparAssist, I wonder if AW will play Traore, given our limited options there at the moment? More game time would be good for his confidence though and it would be great for him to be on the winning side!

Frank, I’m glad to hear those Dutch medics have been sorted. And if there are football ‘consumers’ (I won’t waste the terms fan or supporter on their ilk) who can afford to throw their electronic goods at the opposition players, I applaud your enterprise in exploiting them in the spirit of capitalism!

  340. Oh sorry, you did include him!

  341. Admittedly I am relatively new to ACLF so have not been present since the early days like some appear to be. However, I was drawn to this blog due to the insight offered by YW and several of the posters which was/is of greater quality than much of the material out there including mainstream media.

It becomes tedious when there is a slanging match between Arsenal supporters or the content is so provocative that it draws in opposing fans like DAVE. Can we get back to the sharing of opinion on Arsenal tradition, style, tactics, player assessment, etc. I dont think DAVE would hang around if we elevate the discussion.

I, for one, have changed my opinion that we must strengthen by buying two or three big names every season as a methodology for success. AW philosophy of youth is being widely adopted as the blueprint for long term success. As we know he will buy when he knows we can strengthen significantly in a particular area.

Opinions change as the facts change and sharing of knowledge in a positive manner can only be constructive for the supporters of the football club.

  342. ZAP,BEATING ABOUT THE BUSH,TRYING TO DEFEND PLASTIC FANS..SO THE TICKET-PAYING FANS IN THE STADIUM ARE NOT TRUE FANS OR “TRUE SUPPORT”…TYPICAL LE ARSE FANS ARGUMENT…IT SEEMS LE PROFESSEUR IS TRYING TO TEACH U GUYS SOME SPIN…JUST ADMIT IT,MATE…LE ARSE FANS LEAVING AT THE 75TH MINUTE WAS A PLASTIC BEHAVIOUR…U MUST BE DELUDED TO THINK OTHERWISE…

THANKS FOR COPYING MY STYLE REGARDING UR REPRESENTATIVES JOKE..BUT IT WAS SO LAME..I DIDN’T KOW I WAS MEANT TO LAUGH..
    TRY SPELLING WORD, P..L..A..S..T..I..C. FANS

  343. Why not Eddy, Limpar? He needs the game time. Get him sharpened up for Saturday.

  344. I’m saying the fans that remained are the true fans- Look, I don’t like to cause trouble, I dont come on here to have silly squabbles with the likes of you who has yet to master the ability to read properly. OK? I come to say what I feel about the team i love, nobody wants you on here.

  345. ZAP IS STILL CONFUSED…LimparAssist INCLUDED WALCOTT IN HIS LINE UP…I BET U NEED SPEC SAVERS…LIKE LE PROFESSEUR,THE ECONOMICS TEACHER…
ABEDAYOR IS GIVING U GUYS A SECOND LESSON IN RESPECT TOMORROW ANYWAY…AFTER THE ASHLEY COLE LESSON…BOOING ONLY MAKES THEM STRONGER HENCE THEY PROVE A POINT TO DRIVE UR PLASTICS FANS OUT OF THE STADIUM

  346. Redtrev, didnt we score a goal that the ref disallowed for some idiotic reason.

Also Chelsea got spanked 3-1 by Wigan a much lesser team, does that make Wigan better than Chelsea.

This can happen, but when you make a season out of one match while negating the win streak we were on you are a glory hunting, no faith having, weakling who just rides the tide.

I have no doubt that when Arsenal goes on another win streak you will on here saying, “COME ON ARSENAL!”

The said thing is you cannot keep people from jumping on the bandwagon.

    ARSENAL!

  347. Thanks for having my back there zap!

  348. I agree with Mr. Bob, Eduardo needs as much playing time as he can get. This guy is deadly when on his game.

  349. I agree consolbob, eddie really needs some confidence.

Has everyone forgotten that his career was almost ended on that day against birmingham? Why the critisism? He’s not RVP, but he provides something else that we will only see when he rediscovers his form, hopefully with the help of appearances in games other that EPL ones.

  350. Good to see one or two Arsenal fans on here today. Alas, there are too many of those experts Wenger mentioned, who are able to work out what happened in a football match merely by reading the score. Arsenal were by far the better team for the whole of the first half up to the first goal being conceded. My impression is that they would have benefitted from taking a few minutes for their nerves to settle after the goal, rather than going for the instant response. That left them vulnerable. It was the second goal that was most expensive, although I suspect the result would have been different if our second-half goal had not been unjustly denied.

  351. No probs Paul N

  352. ZAP…WE COOL,DUDE…NO BEEF WITH YOU.BUT U’VE GOT TO ADMIT TO THE TRASHING YESTERDAY…WERE U TRASHED OR NOT

  353. agree there PZ!

  354. Poliziano, that’s right, the whole game would have changed, but no point dwelling, we’ve got Wednesday to look forward to.

  355. Arsenal lost and there is nothing we can do about it, Chelsea deserved victory. However it was not as bad as the scoreline and Arsenal were not mandhandled physically in the least.

  356. Dave, 2 quick questions:

    Seriously how old are you?

    Why are you on here?

  357. Dave, we dominated the game, we were better possesion-wise but the truth is we were slapped 3 times without reply.

Please tell me how old you are

  358. Nasir Jones-Nasri

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see what the boss does with the squad and formation, Limpar Assist.

  359. zap, stop feeding the troll. He has nothing of interest to say and he is just on a wind up. If you ignore him he will move on.

  360. Zap, thats the match really, we need to tighten up at the back and we will be fine. Maybe until we get the players back to game speed we should deploy a more defensive game as Wenger did for a period last season.? These teams dont play football, they just try to catch us out and we are not being disciplied or aggresive enough at the back.

We will get it together though!

  361. I do wonder wether this 4-3-3 isnt such a good idea against a team so stong in the midfield- I reckon a 4-4-2 would have been better yesterday.
Denilson has said in an interview we can win the league

  362. Another goal for Jay Simpson at the weekend. That’s 8 in 14.

  363. Paul N,

The ref disallowed the goal because Eduardo almost kicked Petr Cechs throat off.

I cant handle these pathetic excuses, its such a pussy thing to do.

We lost, we deserved to lose, get over it and lets hope the team sort there shit out before the next game.

  364. Poliziano,I DIDN’T KNOW GOONERS COULD BE SO OUT OF IT…GET OF UR MEDS,MATE…THE ONLY THINK THAT MATTER AT THE END OF THE GAME IS THE 3 POINTS…NOT SOME STUPID POSSESSION GAME..PASS..PASS…PASS..BOUNCE OF JOHN TERRY…THEN PLAY TO BACK TO “ALUMINIUM”…YOU GUYS SHOULD GET RID OF THAT ILLUSION ,OF LE ARSE BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL…EXCEPT THE GAME IS A CHARITY GAME…THE ONLY BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL IS THE EFFICIENT ONE THAT ENDS THE 3 POINTS…SIMPLES

APPARENTLY,IT WAS A CHARITY GAME ANYWAY FOR U GUYS…SINCE LE ARSE ALL DONATED THEIR DAY’S SALARY TO CHARITY…WHICH IS A BENEVOLENT ACT BUT UR PLAYERS ENDED UP PLAYING LIKE THEY WERE FORCED TO CONTRIBUTE TO CHARITY…LOL…CRYING FOR THEIR DAY’S PAY THAT THEY SCORED AN OWN GOAL

  365. RedTrev

We have got over it. Get over it, you have been saying that for 2 days now mate

  366. Zap,

I was answering a question from Paul N.

Is that ok? You’re not going to try and get me banned now are you?

  367. Oh f*ck off, I said Dave should be banned, and if you read the worthless shit he posts you would agree. Bloody hell, anything I do and I’m at fault? FFS

  368. Eduardo almost kicked Cechs throat off, ha ha!

  369. It really should have counted. Ah well, no problem, In fact in a way I’m enjoying Chelsea being so cocky, so when they suffer their inevitable downfall, it will be even sweeter

  370. paul n,MAKING PATHETIC EXCUSES…EDUARDO COMMITED A FOUL…I BET U DIN’T C SAGNA’S FOUL ON ANELKA JUST 18 MINUTES INTO THE GAME

  371. I cant handle those who jump off when the team plays poorly and then gets back on again when we are flying high.

Talk about acting like a very big womans sexual organ. Where is the honour in that, may I ask?

  372. ZAP IS TRYING TO GET EVERYBODY BANNED…NOW YOUR ON TO REDTREV…PATHETIC

  373. Sagne did foul Anelka dave

  374. redtrev, its sad when fans of other teams start befriending you, dont you think?

  375. Look, I dont want anyone banned, i just think you should bugger off to a Chelsea blog, I dont want to cause any corruption or misenterpretation on here, I just want to vent my opinion on the team I love- For the last time, I am very peaceful and I hate to make anyone angry, some people like you Dave piss me off.

  376. I don’t think it was a foul. An arm around him, yes, but Anelka slipped as he played the ball at a weird angle. The ball was virtually behind him.

  377. Paul N,

Theres no shame in losing, take it like a man.

Dont make excuses though, we was awfull and got what we deserved.

Hopefully they’ll gst there shit together before the stoke game. I just hope Delapdoesnt play, them throws will make Gallas and TV shit there pants.

  378. THIS IS FROM AN ARSENAL FAN
    Before the game, Arsene said:

I think for our team this moment has come. We are not any more a team that has to be considered to be young.

After yesterday’s defeat I think the uncomfortable truth is that we are a team that has to be considered not good enough to mix it with the big boys. Chelsea didn’t really break a sweat yesterday and they dismissed us with consummate ease.

You can say ‘Well, how would Chelsea have coped with Anelka, Drogba and Ashley Cole missing?’. That is irrelevant. We were the ones who had to cope with some of our important players being out and we couldn’t do it. I don’t particularly have any time for Arsene’s ‘Everything went against us’ either. I can almost guarantee if the Arshavin ‘goal’ had happened at the other end and Anelka had kicked the ball out of Almunia’s hands he would be absolutely fuming if that had been given.

Of course he’s right to say at 2-1 it would have been a different game but I think pointing the finger at the referee fudges the issue – which is basically that they’re a better, stronger team than we are. And it hurts to say that.

NOW THAT’S A ARSENAL FAN I CAN RESPECT …HE SPEAKS TRUTH TO WENGER’S POWER…NOT GIRLIES LIKE ZAP
    http://www.oleole.com/blogs/arseblog

  379. Paul N,

I couldnt give a rats arse who’s who on here, I’m just venting a bit of spleen.

  380. What are we hoping for tomorrow then? Extra-time, to exert extra tiredness on the players, so they can underperform on the weekend? Come on Blackburn, please beat chelsea so they can stop pratting abt on our sites.

Nobody wants you on here Dave

  381. FFS, for the last pissing time. You are stronger than us, and it will be some time before we can match your experience. I don’t come on here to have arguments Dave, so if you shut the fuck up, we’re all cool ok?

  382. Usmanov’s machine is back in play. Channel 4 is showing a documentary on Usmanov and his plans for Arsenal.

  383. redtrev, take it like a man? What man gives up on a whole season and the team because they lose one match?

    Take you own advice there.

You dont have any faith, so you have lost before you even started. It takes no effort to believe when we won 12 games in a row but now that we have hit a rough spot, the REAL men and women supporters will keep believing.

    you get it?

Take it like a man, ha ha!

  384. redtrev said we didnt have a sniff at goal but if we had a goal dissallowed its obvious that that is a foolish statement. My statement has nothing to do with whether we wouldve won the match or not.

Thats why you need to keep your nose out of the business and dont assume.

  385. ZAP,DON’T WHINE LIKE A BABY…I’M BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE SOME DICTATOR IN ZIMBABWE..LOL.DON’T GIVE IN THAT EASY ….BE STRONG,MATE….DEFEND YOUR TEAM TO THE LAST AND STAND BY THEM…I’M GOING OUT NOW WITH A FRIEND,THAT CAME BACK FROM A TOUR OF SERVICE IN AFGHANISTAN…HE’S A WOLVES FAN….
U GUYS DO ME A FAVOUR AND BEAT MAN CITY TOMORROW…THEY ARE LOSERS ANYWAY…DRAWING EVERY GAME

  386. Redtrev is a dumb shit who is looking to pick a fight.

  387. at last you are fucking off

  388. Passenal, I guess the leftback decision will be informed by how Clichy is doing. If two matches in four days takes it’s toll on Traore, and Clichy isn’t quite ready – we can play Silvestre against Stoke.

Consolsbob, you’re right about Eds. I was feeling very pro Vela after watching his interview. It’s hard not to get excited about Vela. They both need the game time but Eduardo is higher up the pecking order.

Incidentally, I thought you were also right when you said, “…they were so much better at doing what they do than we were at doing what we do.” I’m just glad that what we do is so much more exciting and inspired than what they do. When it clicks for us beautiful things happen that capture the imagination of the global football community – when it clicks for them, they grind out results.

  389. That’s very true LimparAssist.
In January going into Feb, we’ve got Villa vs Arsenal, Arsenal vs Man U, Chelsea vs Arsenal, and Arsenal vs Liverpool. Man that will be a hell of a 4 weeks eh?!

  390. That’s the truth, Limpar, that’s the truth.

Come the great day, comrades, when doing it our way brings the title home.

“…the hotter the battle will be, the sweeter the victory”.

  391. Actually it will be a fantastic four weeks. By the first week in February we will be top of the league….and everyone will know what a great player Eduardo really is. One thing is for sure…AW will not compromise on style. I will laugh my fuckong socks off (actually I often wear two pairs on cold nights) if Chelski and Citeh spend £40m on players.

  392. …£40m each that is

  393. Oh I haven’t got a fuckong…least ways if I have it is a very small one.

  394. I certainly don’t put socks on it. Well not often.

  395. You have to smile at all of the comments. Too many people making ridiculous assumptions. Even on 5 Live, the hacks, including Ian McGarry have jumped to the usual conclusions that we lack power and height, which is of course why we lost…

Then there is the spend money brigade. Spend spend spend. We need a new goalkeeper, midfielder, striker. Yadda yadda yadda. Guess who won the ATP world tennis championships yesterday. Anybody know ? Davydenko. A russian midget, who outclassed Del Poltro in straight sets, a 6ft 6 argentinian giant. The era of giants in tennis ? Not according to Federer and Davydenko.

How about coaching, training and nature ? How about waiting for Bendtner and Diaby to come back ? No…. we need x and y. Well, thank goodness none of these people are the manager, because they are utterly, utterly clueless, as revealed in their comments. Lazy, inaccurate, cliche ridden and prejudiced journalistic comments. Utter utter bullshit. The reason why england have won nothing since 1966. A lack of football intelligence and a complete inability to grasp the need for technical excellence in football, which has rendered us as the laughing stock in european competitions on many occasions. Whilst the danish media were praising the chelsea performance in beating such an excellent team, and saying that they would beat the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, our media were dishonouring our name and insulting us with commercial hackneyed garbage. It’s about time true arsenal fans got onto 5 live on a more regular basis and challenged this claptrap, and also reminded them of the faux chav empire that has distorted the domestic scene.

  396. by a hell of a 4 weeks i meant great 4 weeks frank, haha, you mention being cold a lot, where do you live?

  397. London, zap.

  398. Poor circulation.

  399. really looking forward to wednesday night.

  400. I should get out more.

  401. Me too. I am very, very fond of this squad. Best squad Arsenal has ever had.

  402. i spend too much time watching tv.

ARsenal really gets us through the week doesn’t it? I mean when I’m doing work and I’m stressed out, which is something that happens on a regular basis, I think about arsenal and it’s zoom- paperwork- zoom, stress- zoom, job offers- zoom

  403. no i’m kidding abt job offers but you know…

  404. Actually the tough times and the adversity over the last few years…and the fact that many of the squad were/are very young. It will be fantastic when they win trophies at the end of this year and for many years to come. I will share their joy. It is rare when football supporters can feel part of the success of a team, but many of us will have lived and breathed every moment of this journey with the players. Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

  405. I feel sorry for people who don’t feel that way. Those that knock it are wasting their time. They should just fuck off.

  406. exactly right mate

  407. Sports pundits are full of shit, whatever the sport. When Federer lost at Wimbledon last year, the all-knowing experts were doubting that Federer would ever win another grand slam. He won three of the next five. Before the final of the U.S. Open last year, Pat Cash was claiming that Federer simply had no shots that could hurt Andy Murray. A couple of hours later, Federer had crushed Murray in straight sets.

  408. Right well the dogs are fed and the horses are tucked up. Blankets tonight especially for Peter. Bit of whiskey in my tea, turn the fire off and hit the sack. Feed Herbert and Henry my goldfish and dream the same dreams I have for many a year…mainly about shagging….but often about Arsenal.

  409. Frank @9:28.

I love the last part of the statment about getting the chance to feel a part of the success of this team.

I co-sign that. If we could only get those who jump on and off the bandwagon to stay off when the trophies come pouring in, sadly we cant!

  410. Agree PZ. Is it Real Madrid who have failed to get to the quarter finals of the champions league in the last 4 years. If this is the case, why is their team full of superstars ?

  411. Spot on muppet. All the monkeys masquerading as fans should go back to the zoo. Its bad enough having to put up with the nauseating eulogising of the ‘imperious’ Chelsea and rabid journo crap from Steven Howard and Shaun Custi than spoilt fans. The same fans and journos who will be the first to shower adulation when we are victorious

Apparently JT marshalled the Chelsea defence with ‘Beckenbaueresque’ style and he was swatting of Arsenal attacks like they were flies whilst making foraging runs and spraying passes at will…Really?

So Chelsea beat us! So what? Is this not the same Chelsea that was beaten by Wigan 2-O and by Aston Villa? Was not the same Wigan beaten 9-1 by the same Tottenham who we beat 3-O? It just says that this league can produce crazy results. Save your epitaphs for when the season is dead and buried. We are not even halfway yet. Game in hand won and return leg at the Bridge won ….6 points from 11 point gap leaves 5. And dont believe that Man U,Liverpool, Villa, Spurs and draw specialist Man Citeh wont give them a game. We will see how good Chelsea are when Terry and the Drogba get injured.

After the 500m they have spent in the last 5 years Chelsea have still failed to win the last 3 titles or any Champions League trophies. It is currently an unfair playing field that Wengers is addressing with a sustainable blueprint that is envied by all. His genius is wasted on these imps.

  412. Frank, who are Herbert and Henry and what have they done that could possibly deserve being fed live goldfish?! More to the point, what have the goldfish done wrong? Poor little guys.

  413. One more note.
There are games you need your A team for games. Clichy and Rvp where a big big loss.

Wenger must be pretty irked that he could not name his A team against an inform physical Chelsea side.
I don’t mind loosing to Chelsea, what really hurts is the loss of Van Persie for the season. That has really done major damage to the team.

Walcott’s decision to go to the U21 tournament was really really stupid.

Days like this I fancy taking a punt on Arsenal winning the league.

  414. All these frelling doomers can frizuck right off. Where the love for your team? Your support should be unconditional you bunch canunts. I’ve not read anything remotely sounding like constructive critism or support for the players in our team. Yeah some didn’t perform, yeah we got beaten, but where’s the faith and love of the team?? How can you support a club, a badge, a uniform, without supporting the men who wear it upon their backs, upon their chest?? Support the players you support the club you fickle bunch of frussies.

  415. 420+ comments? Lots to think about on that one. We fell short, we need to respond and learn from it.

The best I’ve read on this YW, thanks for taking the time.

  416. YOGI,WHY DID MY COMMENT NOT APPEAR ON FRIDAY THE 27TH,I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW,IT WAS VERY INNOCENT.

  417. Will Drogba never die or at least retire ther guy is 31 and needs to removed himself from the PL and my screen…….having two of the biggst assholes in batty boy Cole and ol ‘donkey face having an hand in their goals is a trip……why or why couldn’t______have scored……oh ican’t think of a single player from theirs that i don’t HATE with a passion!!!

Oh how I hate those Chavsssss…………..

  418. Without Chichy or Gibbs BB Coles was allowed to breath for the first time against us….aaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh………………

  419. I see all the untouchables are back now that we are losing……..it’s disgusting really……

  420. http://fourfourtwo.com/news/england/43568/default.aspx

Even dirty Drogba claims to support the Arsenal…..will this hell never end!!!

  421. ….Now we finally have a leader for the trolls….11 in 9 games should have them on their knees…

  422. Benn watching Arsenalonline and there is allot of Barca worshipping from the Arsenal players….interesting it’s their favourite opposition on perfect match…mmmmmmm

  423. I am sooooooooooooooooo depressed only a 5-0 win on Wednesday and a Ade sending off could change my mood at this point………..

  424. Maria 5-0 sounds too unrealistic, though not impossible. City are a tough opponent at home and especially if we play the kids. I think it could be a tight game…..I want us to win it, but I also know that it will take an excellent performance from us to do it, something we have failed to produce in our last two visits to Eastlands.

  425. God I hate jet-lagg

  426. So Ian Wright wants us to buy Van Nestleroy….oh dear god.

  427. But he won’t have us…….loooooooooooool

  428. Or so they say……..

  429. Remember the chelski fan in one of their games a couple of weeks ago brushing his teeth standing behind the bench???…..yup….thats class for u….

  430. Are we to get Chamakh for free in Jan? His contract is supposed to run out isn’t it?

  431. His contract runs out in the summer so if we would buy him in Winter we would still have to pay some money.

  432. Sorry, LimparAssist, I did not see your post. My two fish are named after Henry Norris and Herbert Chapman and I assure you that they are fed on only the best proprietary goldfish food. It is called premium Super Fish and it is guaranteed to make your fish shine like burnished gold. In fact I nearly died of fright once when I woke up in the middle of the night to see a pair of bright goldfish hovering in the dark. Of course that was in my paranoid days when I used to keep a firearm under the pillow. Unfortunately I was so spooked I shot the fish. That was Herbert and Henry the First. I now have Herbert the second and Henry the Third, the cat, George, ate Henry the second.

  433. These past coupla days i have been called delusional, stupid, dreamy, cunt, and other big lettered words but it wont stop me.

WE WILL CATCH UP AND WE ARE IN THERE WITH THE BIG BOYS to win this trophy. Arsenal is truly amazing.

Those that are suggesting we buy, what happens if we buy and it doesnt work out? Will you suggest more buying and more buying until you run the club to the ground? Shame on you.

Arshavin should raise his game. I have lost faith in Almunia please somebody help me get it back. We should stop leaking goals and we will be ok. We should find our scoring boots again. Looking forward to happier and better days ahead.

  435. Sorry for the repost. the first one is/was in moderation.

Frank does Goerge swim or how did he get to Henry the II?

  436. The fish was in a bowl and the cat having sat patiently for many days making practice runs, flicked the fish out of the bowl. It was flipping around on the floor and I tried to save it, but George just bit it, swallowed it and licked his lips. Cats can’t burp but if he could he would have.

I think the comments of Tomas and Bacary demonstrate just how important RvP is to the side, both on and off the pitch. I think that the players were knocked sideways by the announcement of Robin’s protracted absence, as we all were. This week there is a chance to regroup, we certainly have the players to mount a bid for the ECL and EPL. It might help if Robin came back fro Holland at the earliest opportunity and maintained a presence at Colney and the Arsenal Stadium. He is a talisman. As for taking a player on loan. I think horseface would fit the bill perfectly if he is fit and he now seems to be. He owes us big time and it would cock a snook at the Mancs. I can swallow my pride on this one.

  437. FirstLady,

No ones saying ‘buy, buy, buy’.

We never replaced Adebeyor but while RVP was fit it didnt matter too much. Now RVP is out, we have no World class strikers who scare the shit out of defenders, and keep there players on the back foot (Arshavin has been a shadow of last season).

Do you honestly believe we could win the league or Champs league without a wprld class striker? We couldn’t do it last year with 2, so how could we do it this year with none?

  438. Frank

If both Thierry Henry and Horseface were available on loan, who would you choose? For me, that is a no-brainer. Henry of course!

  439. Firstlady

It is better to be happily delusional than to be unhappily realistic. :)

  440. Luke,

But whats the point of having a discussion on a discussion blog if you’re not going to talk about football issues?

  441. We need a witch’s curse to tame Drogba and turn him into a toad or something like that.

  442. Van Nistlerooy would score goals

  443. Huh? Mine won’t be the first off-track posting and won’t be the last in a blog’s comment section.

  444. Maybe, just maybe, the Chavs go and get beat Shitty and we beat stoke. All of a sudden the gap is 5 points if we win our game in hand. That would look a lot better.

  445. arsenehollis – your maths not quite correct. Current gap is 11 points. Sorry for the cold water.

  446. The chavs play away at shitty and London derbies with W.Ham and Fulham in December. We need to win our 6 games, or 5 wins and a draw, but there is certainly plenty of time to close the gap.

The question is not whether Chelsea are better than us righ now. It is can we go on a run and string together wins.

  447. No Luke, I said if we win our game in hand. My maths is fine mate, get the boiler on.

  448. Arsenehollis was including the game in hand, Luke. I am not suggesting that Nic, Eduardo and Vela can’t do the job, but with RvP out until the end of March/early April I would not be surprised if AW goes for a loanee. The advantage of horseface is that he is not compromised in the ECL, because he has not played in it this season. He would be happy to get the football in because he still wants to play in WC2010. Besides it would be hilarious. He and Robin are OK with each other too.

  449. I agree with arsenehollis.

  450. Frank, thanks for clearing that up. Although the cold has clearly driven you mad overnight – Van Nistelroy?

Arsenehollis, keep talking please, you’re filling me with great cheer.

  451. We have to assume we can beat Bolton at home, if we are thinking about titles.

There was a good point made about the forward situation on Arseblog. He highlighted how long it took RVP to find his form in the new system, start scoring, and bring others into play more.

Maybe Vela and Eduardo just need a bit of time and practice. With the first 11 probably only playing once in the next 2 weeks we have plenty of time to regroup and find our attacking fluency again.

The way we started the season, with all the goals and beautiful passing was no fluke. The fact we haven’t scored in 2 games is.

  452. LimparAssist,

Nistlerooy would be a no-lose situation.

    A) He scores goals

    B) He plays shit and everybody gets to boo the fuck out of him.

  453. Honestly, most of the damage was done last weekend at Sunderland.

If we’d won that, even the game against Chelsea would have taken on a different complexion.

  454. Yes I know, LimparAssist. Really strange having Ruud in the squad, but there is something almost artistic about the idea. Maybe that should be autistic.

I don’t like many Arsenal ‘supporters’ very much these days so it might be the shock they deserve

  455. arsenehollis,

Home form isnt the problem (Saturday excluded). Its when we go away from home and dont play too well, players like RVP or Drogba win there teams those types of games.

  456. I am an absolutely diehard AW and this squad supporter. But I am not an Arsenal supporter supporter.

  457. WOW – Van Nistelroy???

A c*nt, but he was superb in the Euro championships in 2008 as a lone forward. Showed he was more than just a goal hanger with a horse-face. I thik maybe if you are included in the squad, rather than playing, you are cup tied for the CL though.

I think Wenger should have had the balls to rest sagna and gallas after the international break. God knows where Swiss Phil is, but if he cannot be trusted in a home rubber against a weak CL side then we need to buy someone who can play.

The mistakes we made at the back were out of character, especially from Bak, but they must be exhausted.

A team with our attackers wont struggle for goals very long. We will have Bendtner back soon also, he had started to look really good before his injury, he woudl be perfectly suited to the CF role.

  458. One massive section of our Arsenal supporters are disgraceful. But none of that is new.

The funny thing is that, apart from the away supporters who compare to any supporters anywhere, everyone (especially Arsenal fans and supporters) thinks our support is utter poo.

  459. Some of the garbage about sacking wenger, selling all midgets, and getting in some of the dullest twunts in history to run the show are laughable. I read a Villa fan write last season after we drew 2-2 at their place in very difficult circumstances and it was seen as a disgrace: “Big Club, Brittle Fans”. It seems very apt to me.

We certainly have a problem now that we are a consistently top side, one of Europes best 10 without doubt over a period of time, that having a good team is taken for granted. We do need to step up and win some pots, but we cannot lose our class in the process.

I find the emphasis on size really strange. None of the Chavs goals came from muscle or height. We did well in midfield. Their smallest player set-up the two first goals.

Every team has a bad patch, lets hope ours is behind us. We were unfortunate to get two tough away games after intl breaks, we lost both, but chelsea and liverpool have also lost in that situation.

  460. Our in-stadium supporters are far worse at the new stadium than at Highbury,OG. In fact I would go so far as to say that our supporters are an utter embarassment. Every home game a few of us have to look at empty seats all over the stadium when the game is about to start. Every game we here that the stadium is full and yet up to twenty percent of the seats are not occuoied. Every game that same few have to watch people streaming out 10-15 minutes before the end. So many in fact that they cause a traffic jam i the aisles and completely block the view of some of the few. Our support is an abject disgrace and has gone from one of the worst to the worst in the division.

As for away support……maybe…but I sat in the stadium at Craven Cottage and listened to the fuckers booing a seventeen year old Alex Song.

We are wealthy, cowardly and lazy as supporters.

  461. In our stadium, at half time, grown men queue to pay £3.50 for a half a pint of shit Fosters in a little plastic bottle.

  462. What sort of fucking shit competition includes AA and Cesc in its list but not RvP. Just shows the dignitaries in football know fuck all about fuck all.

  463. You would think people could wait 45 minutes and then drink whatever they want all night wouldn’t you.

Also, Why dont people have something to eat before the game? Whats the point of cueing, missing some of the game, just for an over priced pie that tastes like shit

  464. Btw, you should have seen the Arsenal ‘supporters’ queuing up to take their winnings from the in-stadium bookies after the game on Sunday. All looking around furtively…but they shouldn’t have worried there is safety in numbers.

  465. against teams like chelsea playing on the break would be an option that we dont appear to like. Before the game AW said that he prefered to play high up the pitch because constant pressure creates more attempts on goal, as hitting teams on the break only creates a one off opportunity. I agree to some extent but when you are up against, and lets be honest, a good chelsea team, who get eight or more players behind the ball, it becomes very difficult. Against lesser teams i believe they get pulled out of position and usualy fall toward the end of the game. The invincibles were the masters of playing on the break, scoring ten seconds after the opposition had a corner, we dont do that any more, my point is that i think we should against teams which know how to defend in numbers. Now we have to move on, take one game at a time and work hard. Its not all over yet. Come xmas is the time imo that things start to take shape.

  466. Football authorities in Europe have become fat, corrupt and malignant. I have never forgotten turning up in Paris a couple of years ago to find that the whole set up including the music was geared towards Barcelona.

  467. boomer,

The invincibles never sat back like Chelsea do. Never.

  468. Let’s face it. Our season depends on Eduardo da Silva’s form. Better hope he finds some form

  469. I agree with OG. The invincibles did not sit back for large portions of the game with two banks of four.

Several Chelski players made a big mistake on Sunday. They demonstrated real arrogance and conceit. That will haunt them his season…November is far too early to behave like that.

  470. Chelsea are on pace for 96 points and scoring a 100 plus goals whilst conceding about 20.

If they keep this form up all season, through the ACN and many big games then fair play. That will and should win you the title, it is worthy of it.

    Are Chelsea that good?

I’m not convinced. They are getting older, the squad is actually pretty thin in key positions, and they have a history of starting well and falling away.

But we need to worry more about ourselves. We really need at least 5 wins and a draw in December.

Our team is better than last year. We need another 20 game unbeaten run, but we need it with Rosicky, Eduardo, Arshavin, Cesc fit and playing and with an improved Vela and Bendtner. If we could do it last year we can do it this and we can score the goals now to turn draws into wins.

We lost the title chase last year not in November, but with the draws at the turn of the year.

No team has beaten City at home this year apparently…

  471. If you mean up front, what about Nic Bendtner, AA, Theo and Carlos Vela, OG?

  472. In fact I should have included Abou Diaby in that set. I think there is a role for Abou now.

  473. http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2009/nov/30/emirates-airline-collateral-dubai-debt

“Arsenal signed a sponsorship deal worth £90m with Emirates in 2004 and is believed to have received the majority of the airline’s investment already, with £28m outstanding. It is understood that Arsenal is aware of more lucrative deals being signed by its Premier League rivals and would not complain if Emirates scrapped a contract that gives the carrier naming rights over Arsenal’s stadium until the 2020-21 season and a shirt sponsorship deal until 2013-14.”

  474. Bendtner is the one who will play as the central striker, he has been waiting for this and he wont disappoint.

  475. That would be nice, arsenehollis

  476. Frank,

Nick is out and won’t come back instantly. Vela’s still finding his way. Unless he explodes and really steps up to the plate we really can’t pin our hopes on a 19 year old who has 4 EPL starts.

We need to win the next few games and do it convincingly. From what we saw in the last 2 games, we lack an attacking pivot. If Eduardo doesn’t do better, we could do badly in the next few fixtures and that could kill us.

    Next fixtures: Stoke (H), Liverpool (A), Burnley (A), Hull (H), Villa (H), Pompey (A), West Ham (A).

Not a daunting fixture list, but a hard one nevertheless in which we play every 3 days.

  477. arseneholis,

Bendtner will be back for the ‘pool game at the earliest.

  478. Bendtners a good player, but he doesn’t have the technical ability or razor sharp brain of a top top player. We need a Van Nistlerooy, Ade or a Drogba. All top teams do, its why they are top teams. I dont dislike Bendtner, he gives 100% which is great but in all honesty he hasn’t shown me enough in his time at Arsenal

  479. Bendtner is improving and has taken big strides already. He scored 15 goals last season and would have had more but for a diabolical run of form where he couldn’t hit the proverbial barn door, that happens to kids though. He got the chances though and that is the first step.

He can hold the ball up, he has great vision and enough pace and strength to trouble the best defenders. At 21 he is his nations best player and will lead the line at the world cup. Quality.

  480. I know, OG, Eduardo and Vela must perform against Stoke. We have no choice. I think they will, and I don’t expect Nic back for the Liverpool game so they will need to do it again then. But I think they will. But it is not all about forwards. I think that London Colney could be a very interesting place to be this week.

  481. The game in hand to Bolton will probably come around the 23rd of December. After that the next possible date is the 13th of January just before the away trip to Boltonalready scheduled for the 17th.

  482. Well AW has the option to assess the current squad over the following games before committing to buying a player in the transfer window. I think that he will box very clever now.

  483. Luke thank you.

I wonder how people manage to drink/eat while watching a game. the only thing i could do was chew gum but Ferguson turned me off from it, When its match time i just sit back, relax(not so much), watch the game and throw obscenities at the ref/linesmen and the opposition. When things go down badly like they did sunday i bite my nails(gross but it helps me not explode).

Frank May Henry the II rest in peace. If i were you George would have got a good spanking.

Ole, Edwardo will get the form,Its only been two games as a CF.It took VP 4 games to score. Besides Bendtner should be back in a coupla weeks and he too can slot in.

Chelsea could have made any Italian team proud for the way they defended. Any time we went goalwards there were 9 men behind defending.

Hollis thanks for the uplifting posts. We are still in it.

  484. We dont need an Ade Red. If i remember correctly he did well for us 2007/08 when he had +30 goals. Last season he got too lazy and his ego too big to be bothered. Not to mention the offsides. those used to piss me off big time.

  485. Firstlady,

It’s not just goals though. RVP took 4 games to score but the attack then was functional anyway. Plus he had an assist a game.

I always believe quality will come through at the end. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t doubt what Eduardo can do.

All strikers have bad patches. We’re just unfortunate Eduardo’s having a bad patch, same time as we need him.

He was very sharp at the start of the season for example.

  486. chelsea will drop points

  487. Yes. The whining whinging Scots and UEFA lead a disgraceful witch-hunt against him. Bastards all of them.

  488. I think the time helps us get things sorted. We have almost 2 weeks until Liverpool, we can get oursleves together in that gap. It will be hard, but Stoke at home if we are serious for the title should be won even in bad form.

  489. It would be heartening if our youngsters tomorrow followed by the first team on Saturday came out like a pack of rabid dogs and ripped Citeh and Stoke apart. Cut them to shreds. That might shut one or two people up.

  490. Money can’t buy courage .. Riches mean nothing to us..

  491. Kitchen SInk,

Money can buy courage, Achillies was nothing but a jumped-up Hitman.

  492. deano,

Chelsea will drop points, but were not going to go the rest of season undefeated, no chance, unless we sign a proven striker and maybe a goalie.

We dont have to, but like seasons gone, we wont win anything if we dont.

  493. Redtrev unsurprisingly you missed the point, but following your school of thought Achillies like Superman was not brave..

  494. Superman was well brave.

  495. superman is the equivelent of a grown man beating up children in reception.

Takes no bravery he is invunerable.

  496. He’d only beat the spoilt kids.

What about when he kicked the shit out of the three dudes with the same powers as him. He could of stayed in bed all day and ruined Lois Lane, but no, he showed some bravery.

I’ve completely lost what were talking about.
