Telling Storey’s For A Song And Succession Planning

Anyone who doubted whether Arsenal would bother complaining about tapping up from Barcelona, received further evidence this morning as to why it is simply not worth it. According to The Guardian, FIFA is still investigating the allegations made against Jose Mourinho, Chelsea and Pini Zahavi over the meeting with Ashley Cole ahead of his transfer in 2006. Three years down the line, the Gnomes have been too busy tending various gardens and making no head way whatsoever on any issues to do anything but issue repeated statements that “the investigation is ongoing“.

Vaguely on the subject of Cesc, Daily Telegraph hacks inform us this morning that the player has been the subject of ‘fevered speculation‘ recently. Presumably the fevered speculation referred to is in no way the same that the Telegraph is indulging in when they observe that the player is on his way back to the club yet no decision has been taken about whether he will turn out for the Spanish national team.

Alex Song received high encouragement from Frank McLintock:

When they have three in the centre of midfield and they leave Van Persie up front, it’s making us stronger in midfield. We always played 4-4-2 with Peter Storey as the anchor man in midfield and he was very protective of the back four. Song is one of those players who can do the same kind of job as Peter Storey.

Storey would probably miss half a season through suspension in the modern game, tough tackling being a tad of a euphemism. He is underrated though when people reflect on the early 70s, Hunter, Bremner, Giles, Smith tripping off tongues rather more easily that Storey. Perhaps it is because he was not an England stalwart, not a regular in the Golden Age of 1966-1970 rather than Storey’s era of the Great Depression 1970 – onwards.

It is, at long last, decent recognition of his efforts to find consistency in the team though, no doubt aided by a regular starting place alongside Cesc and any of the others who happen to have a fleeting moment of fitness.

Arsene meanwhile has observed that he will not be naming his successor and will only offered any opinions if asked. Nothing unusual in that and provided he is not leaving under a cloud, you would suspect that the Board will ask for those opinions. Few candidates emerge if you glance internally at the club, and few, if any ex-players from outside are anywhere close to being good enough at this moment in time.

Wenger wants to leave the club in good hands and when the time comes, no doubt a proven manager will be appointed. Having taken a risk with Wenger at the time, foreign coaches being less welcomed than a dose of the clap in the mid-90s, the club is appreciably different to then. The players, the expectations, everything will scream for a proven winner, capable of challenging for and winning silverware consistently.

Should he move into a Board role, you would expect him to be hands on in the appointment and quite possibly making the announcement. One danger in that though is that Wenger would still cast a large shadow over the club, rather like that of Sir Matt Busby at United after his departure. A proven manager would be able to handle that, or at least should be able to, whereas a relative novice may be intimidated in those circumstances.

Given that such movement is seemingly some way off, it was a curious conversation to arise but it does hint at some succession planning being required. Perhaps someone like Bould has already been identified and may over time move up to first team duties. We shall see.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. 1st. Good Article Yogi!!

  2. Damn you arsenalkabisa!

  3. Bergkamp Ghoulfest

    I’ll have the Spuds’ spot.

  4. Well received deafmetal…

was going for third spot too before the damned thing told me i was posting too fast. So it afforded me time to go read the article…

  5. @Bergkamp Ghoulfest

i thought that was relegation zone?

  6. Bergkamp Ghoulfest

@arsenalkabisa The comments were coming so fast I thought I’d slip in just under mid-table. Grave mistake.

  7. @Bergkamp Ghoulfest

    LMFAO

  8. Bergkamp Ghoulfest

Nope.. Spurs make that mistake every year, “predicting rather higher up the table!” … just minus 10 positions and that should be about right

  9. Steve Bould would be just smashing.

I would love Keown, to rise through management and have the cajones to take the role.

Do you think the likes of Pires, Henry, Vieira taking the hot seat is a lost cause?

What happend to big tone eh? He seems so off the button with everyone of his predictions. Shame that. He seems so stuck on trying to prove he’s an intellectual to everyone.

  10. bit too late, sorry!

  11. I think Slaven Bilic is the best option. Bouldy looks good too.

  12. Yogi I can well remember Peter Storey being likened in the press to a JCB shovelling the opposition aside.

He was respected because although he kicked a few, he never complained when they kicked him, often getting up and turning the player round who had kicked him, letting him and the fans know that he had got his number LOL

After one particular hard match against Leeds at Highbury J L Manning wrote the next day an article that started, “last night I walked the streets of London still shaking from the ferocity of some of the attacks launched by these so called sporting rivals”

Pete could look after himself alright and he and Norman bite yer legs Hunter were worth the admission on there own.
If Song can do that job for us, look out for old red nose complaining to his friend the Ref.

  13. All this Cesc and Barca talk used to really get on my nerves. But then I started thinking about it another way.

Presume for a second that Cesc is definitely going to Barca at the end of this year. It’s absolute and there is no chance of that changing. So this is the very last season he is an Arsenal player.

How would I feel? If that was the case I’d be upset, disappointed, worried about what the future holds for Arsenal, etc, etc.

How would I feel towards Cesc? Would I resent him? Hold it against him that he wants to go there? No. He’s been with us for six years, always performed, always entertained, was our talisman through some of our leaner years; a transitional period and helped us through it. If he wanted to go back to Spain to play in La Liga with Barca I don’t think that I could resent him for that.

So then what would I want for his last year with Arsenal to be like? I’d want him to be massively successful. A ton of assists and a ton of goals. Player of the season. European player of the year. Captain of the Champions League winners, the FA Cup winners and the Premier League winners. I’d want him to bow out of the Emirates in a blaze of glory. And under a symphony of applause and cheers. Every game, every fan singing his name and cheering him on. No hatred. No resentment. No scorn. No bitterness. Just a mutual love of the game, and all the joy that, that brings.

Like Adams, Vieira, Bergkamp, Pires, and Henry before him, I’d want him to feel a bond; a connection with the club; with the fans that he could never forget. I’d want him to remember his time here as the best of his life and his last year as the pinnacle of that time. I’d want him to say that this was a special club, with special fans and that he always had a special relationship with them. He’d leave the club a hero. A legend. And Always a favourite of the fans.

But the thing is, that I would want all of those things whether Cesc was leaving, whether it was his last year or not. I wouldn’t want for anything to happen differently. I wouldn’t want Cesc to achieve any less and I wouldn’t want the fans to be any less supportive. No matter what the future brings it shouldn’t change his actions or ours in the present.

Nothing lasts forever. Everything changes. The only thing we can do is to enjoy the present. Savour it. And deal with tomorrow when it comes. When the time comes we will bid him farewell in a manner that is worthy of him and more importantly worthy of us. We are the Arsenal. We will survive. We will prevail.

When you look at the Barca talk in that context there’s little that they are capable of doing to change that paradigm. There’s little they can do to affect us. If anything their actions could push Cesc away from them and further endear Arsenal to himself.

That’s my pennies worth anyway. Well, I’m off to have my wisdom tooth removed. Good article as always Yogi. See guys later.

  14. els

I ain’t 100% convinced that any of our former English players have what it takes to take over from Wenger to be perfectly honest.

I could be wrong but they lack that technical knowledge in their playing career’s that the likes of Henry, Pires, Vieira, Bergkamp etc would know what they want to get out of a former Wenger crop of players.

Its no good handing all these technical players over to a Ray Parlour who tries to make them kick lumps out of the opposition Mourinho style!?

I like Henry’s attitude, my preffered for the job would be Bergkamp. He is a cool customer, and a very intelligent man.

  15. International breaks are so boring.

Can you believe there is another one on November 14th for England to play Brazil in a friendly in Qatar or somewhere?

The Premier League should just break off from the FA and tell them to go fuck themselves.

  16. What happened to my Avatar?

  17. Ah, That’s better!

  18. Bergkamp doesn’t fly though Chris – you can’t have your manager not turning up for away games in Europe.

  19. @Matt,

He will be leaving two weeks earlier to go by train…

What about Pat Rice? anyone? he has been under the master for long enough, and must know a thing or two by now, am sure he can copy Wenger to the T?

  20. my masochistic nature kicked in again and stupidly clicked on ANR link on newsnow. does anyone have the technical nous to shut that godforsaken site down, its SO IRRITATING.

    xenophobic pompous ass he is

  21. arsenalkabisa

We don’t want a replica mate, we want a man that will come in and manage the team to their own style but continueing on the same platform the club and Wenger has laid.

    Matt

We can have Bergkamp on 3G video phone.. giving half time team talks… watching the game over the net. He might even see some faults in our game that a manager would fail to see sitting on the touchline!

  22. Arsesalkabisa Pat rice must be knocking on a bit himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hung up his PR jacket when le boss did.

@ Chrisgoona, I’m not sure that being a classy player necessarily gives you a penchant for a classy management style. Look no further then Arsene himself, not much of a payer and not stylish in play yet he has gone onto be the greatest.

A great understanding of football is necessary, and in this case a great understanding of our glorious club. I would love one of your mentioned legends to be in the fold. But wouldn’t Bould, (look at what he is achieving now) or Keown be ideal, would it be an easier transition for these guys and possibly work better with Wenger in a director role?

Who knows, but it’s got so much riding on it. I really do hope Arsene gets to have a say in the appointment. Perhaps he would be tempted by Pires with an Old gaurd supporting him.

  23. Regretably jabberwocky so long as people like yourself keep clicking on the ANR site Myles has nothing to be worried about!

  24. It certainly is a curious conversation to arise and one I’d rather everybody just not talk about. Having said that…

I understand the importance of planning for a future successor but i’m unsure as to the virtue of opening such a dialogue up in public, now.

Arsene is physically fit as a butcher’s dog, mentally stronger and wiser than ever before and with a team on the cusp of greatness. Here is a manager in his absolute prime. Why even consider, in public, any other?

Maybe there’s some clever PR/boardroom-political/financial motivation behind it, who knows. Regardless, I think we can all look forward to many more years of Arsene.

In fact my greatest hope is that Arsene Wenger, whilst holidaying in Tibet, tasted of the fabled orange blossom and has quietly acquired the status of High Lama of Shangri-La. Perhaps even he’s grooming us a Robert Conway type to take up the mantle for our red&white children and grandchildren when he finally retires aged 121.

Incidentally, having met Steve Bould – though a genuinely lovely man, is not the Robert Conway type we are looking for.

  25. Limpar god forbid that this convo is anything that may happen soon. But theres no harm in future preparation, you can be sure that these issues have been raised with the board.

  26. Arsenal kabisa, yea i do.

  27. LimparAssist

Arsene himself has openly expressed his view on this matter, theres no harm in expressing our views is there?

I too reckon Arsene has at least another 5 years in him, a few Premiership Titles and a couple Champions League winners medals… but its a stressful job with many ups and downs, you just never know. How much can one man give? The whole club must prepare and constantly think ahead like it has been doing with the playing staff. I just dread to think of the pressure the next manager will have following our greatest manger…

  28. I think the likes of Henry, Bergkamp, Pires, Keown should all be considered as coaches if they want to go down that line. Manager is probably a long way away for that generation, they need the experience. Just look at Tony Adams, a great defender, a great captain, obviously management has proven difficult for him like most.

Bergkamp i believe is currently a coach at Ajax? and gaining badges… can someone correct me if I’m wrong. Hes also mentioned how he would like to come back to London and be a part of the coaching team. I really hope he does, true legend and a great example for all.

  29. Matt

A manager not flying is not an issue – for players, for example, travelling to Eastern Europe by car / train is simply impossible. They cannot rest properly and muscles would tighten through being sat down / laid down all that time. For a manager, he can leave on a Saturday after a game and be there in time to meet the squad.

A pain in the arse but not necessarily a reason not to hire someone. Enough to make you think twice though.

    YW

  30. @FL, from where?

Darius does too, so we jabber a little when we want to spoil our selves rotten. bad habit though on an international blog…

    @CG

Arsene will go for another 10. Squeeze 6 EPL titles in there starting with this one. look at red nose… who has three more seasons IMO. Arsene will do 20 more years if it kills him.

according to his words, he doesn’t see himself doing anything else, and he prefers grass to carpet….

  31. I hear Human cloning is at an advanced stage…

  32. Chris, didn’t mean for us not to talk about it! No harm in that. I’m just curious as to why they’re talking about it on arsenal.com.

    Well said arsenalkabisa.

(to the chant popularised by Americans in an election year…)

’10 more years, 10 more years’

  33. Arsenel kabisa you mean swahili from where? isnt all swahili the same?

  34. We are the North Bank boys

Diego Maradona will be the next Arsenal manager. You heard it here first

  35. No you cannot manage a top team if you can’t fly. You can have a game in eastern Russia three days after a tough PL game and the players need you everyday for training, focus and preparation you cannot just send them and try to meet them three days by the kick off(or by chance at half time!)

  36. ArsenalArseneArshavin

We have never seen black top managers at top clubs in Europe. Patrick Viera is my choice. Like Obama said it’s time for a change…

    yes we can

n.b. I’m not black my the way

  37. By the time Arsene Wenger retires aged 121 methods of transport will have progressed far beyond the public imagination. A hyper-uber-sonic-bullet train will make the distance across mother Russia in less than 7 hours. Perhaps even making time on a still day, and DB10 will crash champagne across it’s streamlined nose and straddle her across the land on it’s maiden journey to our first Champions league group game, against Barcelona, now a Pot D team.

  38. hahhaha @FL

Theres Congolese swahili, Kenyan, Tanzanian… most kenyan and TZ can understand congolese swahili. Where are you from though?

@We are the North Bank boys

i nearly choked! that fool may play RVP in goal, Cesc as a sweeper and Denilson as an attacker… shame he may even re-sign Ade…i shudder

    @ArsenalArseneArshavin

and a black James Bond too… hope i dont go into mod for this…

@Limpar, just clone the dude! damit!

  39. Limpar u hate barca that much eh.

  40. hey guys….

  41. I think many hate Barca on here Firstlady, they are a bunch of poaching low life twats!

We still need to publish some MESSI TO ARSENAL stories people.

    YW get you act together!

  42. @kabisa the coastal swahili.

  43. arsenalteranga

How many long journeys in a season do we have to Eastern Russia??? I know its not just Russia, but at most there is probably 3 maybe 4 games in a season where a manager who can’t fly wouldn’t be able to attend. It gives a chance for assistant managers to shine if you ask me!

  44. uwongo wako huo! bichi pande gani? Dar ama Mombasa

    @CG
Pep wants to come in as Pat Rice’s Assistant. (Arsene’s Assistant Assistant)

    @Maria
I thought you were in Central America? I see you and your boy have booked tickets to down south?

  45. Chris hating is such a strong word, but i do hate all the tapping they seem to be doing as far as Cesc is concerned .As for their game they are the closest competition we have in playing the beautiful way.

  46. ChrisGoona,

Ibrahimovich regrets not taking Arsenal chance 7 years ago. He’s now angling for a move to the Emirates.

  47. Aha FirstLady…Swahili sanifu. Legend goes that Tanzanian’s invented Swahili, Kenyans killed it and Ugandans buried it.

Arsene isn’t going anywhere for a while – the man is fitter than a butcher’s dog and has at least 10 more years and a couple of more invincible teams to build.

Succession planning is good though, but I get the sense possible successors will grow tired of waiting and move on.

YW, I support Chris Gooner, let’s get all the Messi to Arsenal stories out there…

I’m suffering a serious bout of Arsenalitis…how far is Saturday 3.00 pm. Can’t wait for the game against them thugs from Birmingham.

  48. Mombasa kakangu

  49. No am in South Africa, Bloemfontein.

  50. Is Eddy injurewd for the birmingham game………who love a hatrick from him this weekend!!

  51. Its not all kenyans that killed it , just the Nairobians..what with Sheng (read slang).

  52. @Darius

i thought that a butchers dog would be among the most unfit? what with all that red meat? Agree though that Arsene is fitter than a fiddle.

    psssssttt operation Messi.

Command what is the best way forward?

    lay ground work to proceed

  53. Maria.

I doubt Wenger will risk Dudu against Birmingham esp if Taylor is playing. He might get a cameo though.

  54. Eduardo won’t be ready, shame, and nor will Martin Taylor, thank god.

  55. Ole gunner not to be scandalous or anything but that guy remeinds me of “what’s his name from Togo” Maybe its caz he is just as tall?

  56. Am enjoying watching Flamini at Milan also!!

  57. Ole Gunner

Technically he is amazing, lets propose a deal to Barca.

    Ibrahimavic + Messi + 50m FOR Cesc

Lets see how much they really want our captain

  58. I like it Chris. Just to refreshen up the dressing room ofcause.

  59. arsenalkabisa

    pssssssssssssssttt… copy that
    :)

  60. Maria that story is so last month or is it a coupla months!!!Didnt he just say it after leaving barca to go on his loan? but hey we cant tire hearing his been miseable, serves him right.

  61. @maria
he sat out both of Croatia’s games though… i think he is still out injured, or its a paln by Arsene & Bilic to surprise those unsuspecting thugs… Bloemfontein, hmm preparations to host Vela?

@FL Mnairobi mie. na kiswahili changu ni chungu weh,
you should listen to the Congolese swa u’ll know it wasn’t the Kenyans or Ugandans that killed it.

  62. Maria .. it is getting boring, its why most the smarter players stay at the Arsenal..

Bergkamp.. Pires.. Henry.. Cesc.. Keown.. Parlour

all stayed for the most part.

    Where as:

Hleb, Flamini, Anelka, Ade, Cole do not compare IQ wise!!! haha

  63. LOL Firstlady….wabara wataweza kweli?

@Kabisa, give me a couple of days and I’ll craft something up that will be from a reliable source from the Camp Nou who went to school with Messi’s Spanish girlfirends uncle’s shopkeeper’s goat herders step son. I’ll post it on my blog and engineer some viral marketing with a few press releases that the wire watchers will pick up. Thursday afternoon is a good time to dump a story like this on the wires ready to be recycled for the weekend.

  64. Firstlady

No no… its a fresh story, fresh tears

  65. I know but he keep saying it in the hope that Arsene is listening is suppose.

  66. miserable*

  67. I will be back welcome our young Mexico no doubt about that people.

  68. Ok ok guys

1st story… Messi’s grandad was Arsenal hardcore supporter

    then…

we reproduce another about how Wenger attempted to sign Messi in the summer which he stated!

    then…

the press will hound Wenger about the Messi story finally if we make enough noise

    then…

Barca will be swung around into the recieiving end of endless Messi to the great Arsenal speculation!!!

  69. Come on… whoever has a blog, whoever has contacts, get this stuff out there!! Lets F**k Barca up!

  70. Chris Gooner.

Keown is the only Arsenal player I know to have been re-signed by Arsenal after leaving Highbury. He played for Villa and Everton before coming back home (prodigal son maybe)….

  71. YW your blogg tomorrow and thursday should be dedicated to making this work, its time to turn the tables dont you think

  72. Darius

Who did I imply would come back?

  73. At kabisa umewasahau warwanda .. chao kibovu kweli kweli.

    Darius.hata….lo

Maria i guess that’s why its repeated so often too bad we don’t take deserters back.

  74. CG…I was just adding to your thoughts about players in your 2.50 pm post.

It was to do with Hleb’s cries over spilt milk hoping that Wenger might hear the cry for help.

  75. I don’t think your plan will work, ChrisGoona. Arsenal has the best players in the world, so everyone believes – and indeed expects – that other teams will want Arsenal’s players; but by the same reasoning nobody could credit that Arsenal would want the players of other teams, since that would be to wish to replace better with worse.

  76. Poliziano. Which players from Barca do you think might fit into a Wengerball team (except for Henry).

  77. Poliziano..the Chamakh and Matuidi stories were flying!!!

  78. Henry went to Barca to win the CL.Which if we are all honest he would not have won if he had stayed at Arsenal. Its sad but true

  79. Darius Messi might or even Xavi!

  80. DS

Iniesta, Xavi, Ya Ya, Piquet and Messi

  81. @FL. I like Messi. Very unpredictable and very lethal when in his element. I think he would enjoy Wengerball.

  82. The Don

    Sagna Piquet TV Clichy

    Iniesta Ya Ya Cesc Xavi

    Arshavin Messi

Although it does lack height!!!! But teams wouldnt get the ball off them

  83. Well Vela. It’s a shame that Yaya failed his trial with Arsenal then. No fear, we’ve got Song who is doing so much better than Yaya, Essien or even Mascherano (all of whom are constantly refered to as the SI unit of defensive midfielders) did when they were Song’s age.

Imagine what a monster of a player Song will be at 25.

  84. How silly, vela vela vela red red gooner.

  85. How do you like Bloemfontein Maria? It’s not everyone’s first (or um, top 25) choice destination in Southern Africa, how come you landed there? It’s quite a nice, neat little city, but eeek boring.
    How are you anyway?

  86. YW, I disagree with you on your view that few candidates exist internally to replace Arsene when he decides to call it quits.

In Bouldy, we have someone who has learned from the man and knows his ways from inside. Fortunately Bouldy being part of ‘Project Youth’ is personally known by the players coming through because he’s worked with them.

Bouldy will be the first on the list to replace Arsene.

  87. I think most would agree that Tanzanians, in a literary sense, speak and write ‘real’ Swahili, or perhaps we could say ‘deep Swahili’. I’m sure Kenyans would agree they do not have the same pedigree, much less Ugandans, and more distant yet Congolese and other branches.

  88. AK, I can think of none better than the mind of Ateeb to make ‘Op Mess’ strike its target.

  89. ZimPaul.

Kenyans who are not from the coast have no choice but to admit that they are culpable of seriously mutilating Swahili to an unrecognizable form of street slang. Tanzanians and Omani’s in the middel east speak the purest form of the language and as you break down into the hinterland of the East African region including Uganda and Rwanda, and as far down as Congo and Malawi, the purity of the language breaks down.

It’s lovely to listen to though when its spoken in its purest form by Tanzanian’s and Kenyans from the coast.

  90. Going back to Manager’s who could potentially replace the messiah, what about Paul LeGuen?

I know he had a mare at Rangers, but he played a big part in building up Lyon into the force they became in France, and is doing a decent job in rebuilding PSG.

All good expirience for a relatively young manager.

  91. Only Fabregas

So in disagreeing with me about the number of limited number of internal candidates, you actually agree with me that Bouldy is the only one.

Disagreeing in an agreeing kind of way?

    Pedantically Yours,

    YW

  92. Slaven Bilic has potential too – it would be interesting to see what he does at Club level.

  93. Theres only one man alive today who has the attributes to step into Lord Arsene Wengers shoes,

Take a bow – Alan Pardew

  94. James. Why stop there. Hell, let’s go for Stan Collymore.

  95. Live – Adaptive streaming is bullshit.

Get off your bums and go the games

  96. Darius,

    Now your just being silly

  97. Darius,

Whjat are your thoughts on us re-signing the Dickov?

We need a fox in the box, but Dickov goes one further, he is our ferret in the box.

    Thoughts please

  98. Omanis speak Swahili? Where in Oman?

  99. after Arsene (if I am still alive) …I would like a management duo of berkamp and Riikard.

  100. I would like to see Merse and Morrow given a chance.

  101. Hey Serk da Turk, thanks for that post. You’re right…I don’t think anyone would (or should) feel any resentment towards Cesc if he leaves…whenever that time comes.

That’s the difference between Barcelona and Arsenal in the end…we respect and love Cesc as a Captain of The Arsenal and one of our brilliant orchestrators on the pitch. Barcelona on the other hand appear to view him more as a pawn and as “something that got away”…like a part of a chess collection that they want back. I’m sure they realise his talents and value him for it but the way they’ve been going about this affair has been ridiculous.

They talk about “their prodigal son”…that’s rubbish. We have patiently watched over that kids development for the better part of 6 years with unwavering loyalty. To talk of Barcelona DNA is sheer idiocy…Saying that totally takes away from everything Arsenal has put into Cesc’s development.

Anyway, I’ll end up rambling on…thanks for your post. We will win something this season and I just hope that on our way to victory we slap this stupid arrogance out of Barcelona.

  102. Poliziano,

Thank you for the Microsoft IIS Media Services update yesterday, this would be great news, and specially on Arsenal.com.

  103. i would like rabah saadane to replace arsene wenger

  104. @ wazungumzaji kiswahili

    Kwenu ni wapi?

Its a moot point talking about AW succession as it wont happen any time soon. But as there’s no other news, its OK.

  105. I hope rabah is young enough for the long wait…

  106. Is back-knack the new black? The Arsenal players seem to be lining up to get some!

  107. Ridiculous isn’t it Passenal. There I was thinking Rambo was indestructable after a summer spent chopping slabs of granite with his bare forearms in the Welsh valleys; wading along rivers with stacks of slate on his shoulders, two randy sheep under each arm, coal daubed under each eye, and lashings of cold rarebit in his satchel courtesy of dear old granny Ramsey.

  108. LimparAssist, perhaps he carried one granite slab too many and now he is paying the price? But he’s a tough boy from the valleys so hopefully he’s be back soon!

  109. I assume you meant “a tough boyo from the valleys.”

  110. ha ha LimparAssist

Don’t forget Aaron’s stints in the baritone section of the Abergavenny male voice choir. I expect it was taking all those deep breaths and giving it some welly that did his back in.

  111. Let’s just hope it wasn’t caused by another infamous pastime of Welshmen.

  113. Maria (regarding Hleb)

Not boring to hear him over and over if it will finally sink in to any player thinking of leaving. Also I miss watching him play for Arsenal, even if the team has now adjusted to his absence.

Some of his performances in Europe leading up to the final against Barcelona were breathtaking. He was probably one of the most exciting players we’ve had in the last few years, and I would take him back in a second if it weren’t for the attacking riches we have at our disposal.

  114. People who make the wrong decisions and regret it may duel on it over and over again wishing they would go back in time to undo it.

We on the other hand didn’t do anything wrong, we supported him when he was playing for us. There is no need for us to duel on it, we moved on because we are Arsenal and bigger than any player.

I agree though, it’s good he is talking about it publicly and it also takes guts to admit his mistake, this is a great example for not just the senior players but the young ones as well. The grass is not always greener on the other side.

I’m very happy Nasri is recovering and will be back soon, mouth watering….

  115. I “Faintly” remember a former Arsenal prospect called “Bentley” is he still playing football?

  116. What’s with our players and back injuries??

  117. arsenalteranga

Excellent stuff mate!! Keep it up

    http://arsenalteranga.blogspot.com/2009/10/exciting-news-despite-international.html

Come on people, more stories like this!! Lets do as much as we can to turn the tide on Barca, lets fight bulls*it with bulls*it…. well our aint even bulls*it because we actually made a bid for Messi!!! ;)

  118. RE: Hleb.

the boy was exciting like you wount believe. Add to his two footed play, and exciting ability, and making other team members “tick”

But he had no end product, and he forgot how we all stood by him in his first season at Arsenal when he was plagued by injuries and also as he played the shitiest football Arsenal has ever seen (okay next to Baptista of course)

    Miss him not.

RE: Messi to Arsenal, does anyone speak some Spanish we go into a few Spanish blogs?

  119. @G4E

    nah! he Quit playing.

Last i herad of him, He was trolling Arsenal blogs under the tag BentlyTheFlyingSpud

  120. arsenalkabisa

    Thats an idea!

  121. Does anyone have inside information if Mannone will stay in goal or if Almunia will be coming back?

  122. SAMIR NASRI has handed Arsenal a major boost by revealing he is ready for a first-team return.

The midfielder has been out since breaking his leg in pre-season but could be back in action this month.

He said: “I’m due to rejoin the Arsenal team this weekend, or at the start of next week.

“I think I will be back in action against West Ham on the 25th.

“The new style of play suits us. Cesc Fabregas has a bit more freedom in midfield, and the rest of us link up well with him.”

But team-mate William Gallas suffered two smashed teeth during France’s 5-0 win over the Faroe Islands on Saturday.

The centre-back is a doubt for the clash with Austria tonight.

    …………………………..

Lets just hope he doesn’t need his teeth to play for the Arsenal… Gulp!

  123. That’s a real pain in the Gall-ass. He gets through almost his whole career with his teeth intact, and then at the age of 32 he gets two of them knocked out. I wonder if he’ll have them replaced with chrome ones to match his Mercedes.

  124. He’s more machine than man now…

  125. @ ChrisGoona 7-28a.m.

    BRILLIANT . . . . ABSOLUTELY F****** BRILLIANT!!!

  126. Poliziano he was only 2 years away from retirement

  127. @PZ

    LMFAO

do you think he got a kick in the teeth? i always wanted to meet someone who got kicked in the teeth.

How low does your teeth have to be for you to get a proper kick? poor Gallas!

At least now he will keep his mouth shut and just focus on football. (me thinks its pretty ugly going around with your mouth open when you don’t have two front teeth at 32…)

  128. Just like to point out toshack as a proper gent and fine example of an international manager.

  129. Also looks like Baptista is flopping at roma. If wenger couldn’t find the ideal position and style for that guy then he’s a lost cause, what the hell is Ranieri going to do for him. He’d be best off at Bolton, Blackburn, sunderland or a team of that ilk. Shame about that guy I so wanted him to be our beast of midfield. Should never have left sevillia.

  130. els,

But he did play a mean Spanish guitar.

  131. Kabisa
You are being mean..somebody probably caught his jaw or whatever with his(the villain) arm or head. You cant blame him (Gallas) for being on the receiving end of a kick.

  132. Haha yeah he did. Did he jam with gilberto?

  133. The barca’s(read f***ers) are now after Arshavin..Shit.

  134. Firstlady – they will want YW and Arseblogger next…anyone who does anything for Arsenal ( slot-sliding included!) ~ gets a Barca DNA pack.

YW ~ Misinformed, old son. Crap comes from the Latin (Roman legionaire’s disease) – “Crapitas” – meaning, surprisingly…”SHIT!”
    Gerrae!

  135. Oh…wrong page! :-) Crap!
