Nasri’s Knacked, Columbia Crack & More

In the aftermath of the Adebayor transfer, Arsene asked that supporters ‘trust’ in the players that are in the squad. Perhaps he should have been a tad less so himself given the self-inflicted injury to Samir Nasri. Not that the French international knacked himself, simply that any non-muscular injury sustained is inflicted by the squad. It matters not who caused Nasri’s absence, just that it was avoidable. I suspect Arsene will be instructing that the sessions become non-contact for the remainder of the Austrian training camp.

There is almost a curse on these pre-season ventures into central Europe. Diaby and Adebayor have both suffered whilst the team is on their annual jolly in the past two years. There have been other minor knocks but none with as serious the implications. Clamouring for Wenger to rush to sign a replacement is misplaced. There is no rhyme or reason for him to do so given that there are replacements from within the squad. Arshavin, Walcott, van Persie, Vela and Wilshere are the most ‘natural’ replacements on the left from those who are match fit.And that is before you get to Barazite and Co.  Traore may be spared a loan spell as cover whilst Gibbs could feasibly fill in if resources become stretched.

One key element to this is Tomas Rosicky. Having made himself quite at home in his sixty-odd games for the club in that role but caution must surely take priority here. The season is still five weeks away, half or one-third of the time that Nasri is expected to be missing. Factor in the September international break and the Frenchman’s actual absence could be as little as six weeks of playing time, twelve games in all competitions. It is not the death knell to next season that the media, well the sensationalist element of it – although that be construed as meaning all of them – would have you believe.

The pre-season continued with SC Columbia being given a one-goal headstart and then turned over by 7-1 at the final whistle. An element of Jumpers for Goalposts if you will with Bendtner, Ramsey and van Persie grabbing a brace apiece and Gallas finishing it all off. Arsene will have been more relieved to have got through without any further damage to the squad.

Elsewhere, Klaas Jan Huntelaar has apparently broken off negotiations with Stuttgart over the proposed transfer but would probably be really, really upset if anyone suggested that it was purely a case of him waiting to see if Arsenal or anyone else for that matter, put in a coutner offer, something that seems highly unlikely with a £20m price tag. Meanwhile Marouane Chamakh is like a country experiencing recession, downgrading his boomtime expectations to Sunderland.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. Has anyone seen the youtube clip on Chemakh? At the start it shows him missing about ten sitters. I dont understand why anyone would post that up there?

  2. It’s to show his improvement over recent seasons, the progress from unreliable squad player to key component of the Bordeaux’ title-winning side.

  3. Maybe it was Patrick, you know how much he likes French / African players.

  4. lose “the”

And good post, as ever, YW.

  5. Just in case anyone hadn’t noticed (!) – i have set up a mini league called ‘ACLF’.

If you aren’t already playing the game then you can register at

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com

Once you have logged in and entered your team, click on the ‘Leagues’
link you can find on the right of the page. Now enter the code
245482-85755 to join the private league.

  6. Get your head out of youtube James, it doesn’t represent too much of what happens in the real world.

  7. Ole, I know I’m just saying it was a weird compliation, I kept expecting him to score

  8. Eduardo seems to be in the pictures from the training camp published in the AFC website, so the rumours suggesting he is out for 2 months seem inaccurate.

  9. AW comes through again having filled the gap we have in the defensive midfielder role in the friendly against SC Columbia. The man in the hole is Senderos.
Just as an aside, I would prefer we get Negredo rather than Liverpool or the Spuds, but would we stump up the cash?

  10. Wavey

I doubt it will be Senderos in the long term since he is apparently mulling over other offers.

Negredo is over-rated and since he is a Real Madrid player, no doubt he will be overpriced. He did well at Almeria but to me at least, will not cut the mustard in England.

    YW

  11. Sorry, a bit tongue in cheek on the Senderos comment, although I do feel that we still have this gap in the holding role which is not filled by existing squad members. I thought Frimpong really looked the part against Barnet, but that was Barnet after all. If we could blend Song and Denilson together we might have the right guy for the job. I’ll just get my hacksaw!
Negredo might not be the guy for us, but I feel that we could still do with a target man in the middle to hold the ball up, with all of our forward options a point man in the middle have a massive role bringing our runners into play. Ade was always involved in a lot of the give and go stuff around the box even though his touch was sometimes a bit heavy (and most of his flicks were crap). With Arshavin’s movement a man in the middle to hold the ball would be awesome.

  12. In fact, IIRC Negredo has only just been signed permanently by Real. I think they had something like a €5m option based on his original move to Almeria.

    YW

  13. Yogi,

I read Huntelaars price as around 15m – 17 with add ons, and 60k a week salary… sounds like money we could pay if we were interested. He would be a class replacement to Ade, and even cheaper, something I remember Ole Gunner being worried about.

  14. With their spending so far this summer Real might well be tempted to send Negredo out on loan to the Prem rather than sit him on the bench for the season. I wouldn’t be too surprised if he turns up as a season-long loan somewhere rather than a permanent transfer.

  15. I have always thought that Bendtner has done a pretty good job as a ‘target man’ when required.

And remember, he is still only 21.

Drogba is considered one of the best in the world at that role, but didn’t really excel at it until his late 20′s.

  16. Matt, what does ACLF stand for btw?

  17. Huntelaar is a good player, but £17M? Not for me.

If we sign anyone at all, i would prefer a central midfield player.

I don’t see the need for a forward at all.

  18. buy huntelaar for 15 million pounds

  19. Look at the name of Yogi’s Blog wondrinfree!

  20. I agree that Bendtner has the build for the role in the middle and has performed well in that role from time to time, but I don’t think he is ready to step into that role on a week-in week-out basis. I accept that he is still young and that Drogba didn’t really come of age in that role until his late 20s, but we really need somebody now not in 5 years time. I’m happy to have Nicky playing in that role as cover, but not as the main man.

  21. @Wavey –

I really think that bendtner will step up this season. He has bags of talent and works so hard for the team.

I would much rather we spend money else where.

  22. How dare Ramsey shoot inside a crowded box !! We, the Arsenal, are supposed to tap them in !! Guess AW would have given him an earful by now.. and come the regular season Rambo will be shot-shy, arsenal proper..

But seriously, is this guy good or what.. I know its just a friendly but im definitely not worried if the Fab leaves in a coupla years time.. We the perfect replacement !!

  23. Matt

hold on my fren am joining the fantasy team

  24. smoletar i agree there are other areas of the pitch which i think will add to the strength and ballance of the team and i think those positions should be defensive

  25. Bops,

Not only that – but Nasri could play that role as well, and is only 21.

  26. bring back hleb..except his finishing he is great player..now with nasri our for 3 months we can use him..also we will have great talent at our disposal

  27. make no mistake people , in Edwardo we have one of the best finishers in world football, some will argue that his injuries could be a problem but we dont know that. we are not far off making a seriouse challeng on all fronts with the sqad we have at our disposal, and there is still a long way to go before the window closes

  28. Nacho,

Huntelaar is a good player but there’s a bit of a question mark over him. I don’t know what or why but he’d be rated a lot more if there wasn’t.

  29. every year i hear the same old shit about arsenal… (wenger’s lost it, they cant keep the team together, spuds are going to knock us out of the top four) its bollocks all of it. i think we have all but one element missing, propper support. i cant afford to go to that many games i think i only went to four prem games last season, all at home, and i was one of the only people cheering on arsenal thruout the game. as for the so called “boo boys” if your not going to go and enjoy+support arsenal then give your ticket to someone who will. i have to save my money for weeks to go to the games and when i get there i love it, all i want to see is arsenal playing the way arsenal play (which is beautiful) win lose or draw. if you want to boo go and support the chavs.

  30. First time posting here guys. I was just wondering, with Ade gone and Nasri temporarily crocked, doesn’t that just cancel out our two “new signings”!

  31. Someone pointed this out at another forum. Take a guess who wrote this this morning?

“My friend had not seen a squad. On Tuesday I looked for a squad but it seemed that no squad had been announced. That suggested Kolo Toure’s absence was a secret. Where was he? Talking to Manchester City, obviously.”

  32. Actually, isn’t the season just three and a half weeks away? First league match is Everton on August 15.

  33. @Matt,

yah agree Nasri would be very well suited for that role too.. hope he gets well soon.. have great hopes on him this season !!

24 more days to go !! bring it on !!

  34. Ole Gunner, Huntelaars stats ( i know you guys love stats) blow Adebeyors (before he joined us) out of the water

  35. Sooth – got to be one of the worst passages I’ve ever seen written by a so called professional journalist. The fact that Kolo Toure was playing against SC Columbia, and that we all witnessed it on Arsenal TV, means that Pyles has now promoted himself to be the biggest tosser on the Arsenal blogosphere, ahead of either Geoff or Pedro from Le Grove.

  36. James,

Huntelaar hasn’t performed in a top league. Real Madrid is his first foray into a top league, and his stats there are good but he didn’t set the place alight or convince them.

I haven’t said he is not a class player because he is. Just that there is a question mark over him.

In any case I heard he and RVP don’t get along.

  37. A summer can make a big difference. Two recent examples are Flamini and Adebayor, both had their best season for Arsenal come after a season of indifference.

Last year no one really had that kind of season, I fully expect one or two of Diaby, Denilson, Walcott, et al to have their coming of age this year.

  38. Been sitting in the Club Level for the last three seasons, finally moving in with the real fans in the coming season as I’m moving into the upper tier. Whilst the seats in the Club level are amazing the lack of real support ruins it. The few real supporters are heavily outnumbered by the corporate ticket holders. This is especially bad in mid week games where the corporate lot are too busy getting their half time free drinks to come out for the second half. The Club level was a nice way to lock in some corporate ticket holders at higher prices, but unfortunately it doesnt help generate an atmosphere in the stadium.

  39. Sooth, Muppet,

There was a bigger problem with the article from Pyles but I cant be bothered anymore.

The so-called Grimandi telling L’equipe we’re a selling club is completely fabricated. Go to pressdisplay.com. They have all l’equipe archives. Search for Grimandi and see if you get any quotes from Grimandi in the last 4 months. Completely made up. Disgusting but we already know Pyles is a very sick man.

Then there was the L’equipe know what’s happening in the Arsenal camp better than the English media. Well, I’ve read L’equipe today, and they had pictures of the break. Somehow they must have sent a journalist to Austria to cover the Arsenal camp.

The British press sit in their offices and make up or misinterprete stories, the press in other countries actually send their hacks to actually report.

  40. OG,

The man is a menace, and a blight on Arsenal.

Unable to find a way into the Wenger hierarchy, losing the access he once had under George Graham, he sits and writes pernicious and sniping articles from the sidelines. As you say, a sick man.

If british hacks can’t be bothered to report on actual news stories, and instead spend most of the day in the pub, with some last minute plagiarism to present as their days work, then they should all be fired. And to think this man actually had the audacity to criticise Arsenal’s marketing efforts, when all he can do is put up a shitty website with barebottom support.

  41. The guy is scum. He calls it Arsenal News Review, but he doen’t even attempt to hide the hostility towards Arsenal and AW in every word he writes.

  42. Ole,

I just watched back the interview with AW and it is a little confusing.

In one sentence he says we have Eduardo back, and then a few sentences later he says in the next 2 months we have him back.

I guess we will see over the next few days if he plays or not.

  43. Non Edible Nacho

Eduardo is not injured. What Arsène apparently meant was that “in (those) 2 months (in which Nasri will be out) Eduardo would be available”.

  44. Matt,

my understandin of AW’s words on
Edu, “And in [those] two months Eduardo will be back as well” is that *in those two months while Nasri’s out*, we have Eduardo.
Clearly Eduardo has been training since 6th July, and therefore him being out another couple of months doesn’t make sense. At least I hope so.

  45. Good lookin’ out Nacho..

  46. Here’s a stab at an ‘Indispensable’ Top 30 Chart. I’ve taken only players appearing as first team players on Arsenal.com and added Gilbert and Simpson as extras. All this could change based on Arsene decisions and transfers.

I’ve listed them based on quality and replaceability within the squad, including impact on team and fan morale if they left. For example, Almunia is higher up than if this was based on pure quality, largely because his replacements are relatively inexperienced. This is NOT a best player chart.

Complete guesswork on TV, and he will move up the charts. Wilshere, Ramsey and Vela are higher than a few more established players because their departures would have a greater impact on fan morale than say, Eboue.

    30. Mannone
    29. Simpson
    28. Gilbert
    27. Silvestre
    26. Senderos
    25. Traore
    24. Fabianski
    23. Eboue
    22. Djourou
    21. Gibbs
    20. Diaby
    19. Vela
    18. Wilshere
    17. Ramsey
    16. Vermaelen
    15. Song
    14. Denilson
    13. Bendtner
    12. Walcott
    11. Toure
    10. Nasri
    9. Rosicky
    8. Eduardo
    7. Clichy
    6. Gallas
    5. Almunia
    4. Sagna
    3. Van Persie
    2. Arshavin
    1. Fabregas

If Adebayor was still here, he would have been #8.

  47. And what else do you do in your free time?

  48. Eboue should of been number 30

  49. Matt,

It seems Eduardo is back in training. I think he features in the photo I posted above. Looks like him but I’m not absolutely certain.

  50. Ateeb,

Sorry, making stupid lists and getting excited about the upcoming season is what I’ve always done. Part and parcel of being a fan, I guess. You’ll be pleased to know I’m still able to hold down a full-time job and lead a healthy social life…what’s your excuse?

  51. José Mourinho, the portuguese whom the Association has sought to woo as its new technical director, is expected to be appointed manager of Arsenal this week in succession to Arsene Wenger, who was dismissed on Wednesday. With a name like his, some would say it was a formality.

Peter Hill-Wood, the Arsenal chairman, declined to deny that Mourinho was about to arrive at The Emirites. “Nothing is confirmed,” he said. “There is a lot of speculation around, but I am not in a position to comment.”

However Hill-Wood cited Wenger’s alleged lack of communication as the main reason why he was sacked. “He hardly talked to us. We did not know what was going on or what his thoughts were and that is not healthy,” he said. “We employed him in good faith and thought he was the right man for the job. He was not and now we are looking again.”

  52. santino,
    WTF, Are you drunk??

  53. i thought its pre season which means write your fantacy time.

  54. Somebodys been on the crack again

  55. Silver Gunner

I hope Eduardo is fit cause to loose Ade, Nasri and EDS in the space of a week to sales and injuries would be a tough pill to swallow, and an offensive player with experience may have to be purchase.

I don’t see anything wrong in asking Real Madrid if we can have Huntelaar on loan till Jan with the option to extend they would probably jump at the option as he doesn’t want to play in the German league, apparently prefering the EPL.

lagooner i like your list with the exception of Simpsons position I think this lad has a great chance of making it and was arguably our best loanee last season, I would have him in Traore’s position but thats just me.

YW BTW keep up the good work your blog is well written and relatively impartial unlike most.

I missed yesterdays mauling of SC Columbia but we played well by all account with the exception of some nervy goal keeping from almunia.

    La gooner

  56. Silver Gunner

apologies for signing la gooner dodgy typo i dont even know how i managed to do it :>

  57. Matt

I have joined the private league..can i see teams of others?

  58. Santino, then write something like Manure relagated, Fergie being sacked, Arsenals quidraple….

  59. adc, You can if you click on the ‘opponents teams’ link. But you get deducted ten points for being a nosey parker

  60. adc, that was bullshit by the way

  61. I woulda thought Eboue would be above Ramsey in your list LAG … well just a thought you know.
    Diaby and Vela.

    Otherwise, it’s thought-provoking.

  62. That indispensable top 30 chart is a heap of sh*t, I’m afraid.

  63. I’m afraid you’re quite right..

  64. Could be a reflection of his full time job and healthy social life.

  65. Silver Gunner

Guys are u incapableof having fun that chart was just that a bit of fun.

  66. You must have misread my previous comment, Silver Gunner. I didn’t say it was heaps of fun; I said it was a heap of sh*t. There’s a subtle difference.

  67. Nasir Jones-Nasri

    James,

What don’t you understand about the words get the hell out of here. You come on here pretending to be civil, and then you say some imbecilic comment about a quality player like Eboue. I know what you’re up to as well. Your wish is to dumb this wonderful blog down to your home blog LG’s level, huh? Just get the f*ck out of here already, you buffoon.

  68. I love the way some idiots feel they have the right to decide who come on this blog, telling people to fuck off and name calling ,, it really is rather pathetic. Grow up people! you know who you are.

Any one else suprised bye senderos playing DM yesterday?

  69. WTF? The Gaurdian reported Eduardo injured…is he or isn’t he?? Arrrgh…

  70. Nasir Jones-Nasri

I hope that’s not directed at me. If that’s the case, you can f*ck off as well.

I’ve got no sympathy for uneducated trolls who have nothing better to do than slag Eboue and Denilson off on such a fine multi cultural blog like Yogi’s.

  71. @ Nasir Jones-Nasri on July 22, 2009
    at 3:40 pm
Post of the day. Thank you.

  72. And i have no sympathy for you Nasri Jones Nasri,, its intolerance that is the most pitifull sin of them all. The different characters on blogs make them interesting, i dont agree with many things and seriously doubt alot of peoples intelligence and intentions on here but its what makes it what it is. People who cant deal with that should go find some thing else to do. But resorting to telling people to fuck off and name calling,, well its pityfull to say the least, you not the only one guily of it there are many. They have just as much right to post here as you, you are nothing special.

  73. Nasir Jones-Nasri

That’s where we disagree. You don’t mind posting among mongoloids, I do.

  74. There’s mongolians on here?
    :)

  75. Well its some thing you have no control over, so its better to ignore them rather than get sucked into resorting to hostile comments and name calling. I see the humor in some of the more retarded comments and love reading some of the pathetic explanations for them. I love it when they get called out and shot down, but its so much more satisfying when its done with witt and superior intelligence rather that swearing, abuse and name calling.

Now am i the only one even slightly curious as to Senderos playing DM yesterday?

  76. @ gunnerjones on July 22, 2009
    at 3:55 pm

Post of the day. Thank you.

  77. @gunnerjones No you’re not. I couldn’t see the game. How did he do? Is it a possible way for him into the squad? Maybe where he should have been from the beginning? ( I always thought he had the intimidating look anyway…)

  78. Gunnerjones,

I think Wenger has already come out and said that Sendy has offers from other clubs – so its most likely he’s just plugging a gap in training until he departs and we supplement that position with someone new in the transfer market. We’ve already missed out on Melo – and Matuidi seems to be on the radar. So its just a question of being patient to see what pans out.

  79. arsene was advised to play a dm whose first name is philip . first he thought it was melo .then he realized who it was .the rest is history.

  80. Axis, I only got to watch the highlights so i didnt get to see much of him. But i just read on the official website that he played at DM, I found that rather interesting. Wonder if Wenger wasnt testing the waters for next season.

  81. Or perhaps he just wanted to give him some game time. I would have though he would be using the games to figure out the best player to fill that position. Not give one on his way out of the club a run out. ?

  82. Silver Gunner

gunnerjones @ 3:55 well said dude.

People like me also find it hard to understand the hosility shown by some on this and other blogs, btw this in no way has anything to do with YW blog as like i have said is well written and thought provoking.

Can we not just get on without the name callin’? If we disagree with something someone else has said do so in a civil manner, as oppose to mindless namecalling.

OK rant over just getting sad seeing all the slaggin’ off going on this blog.

  83. Gunnerjones,

I just can’t see it with Sendy. He was released on loan to Milan. He asked to stay at Milan. Milan refused to take up the option. He gave an interview whereby he said he had other offers. Wenger has since come out and said that the club is letting him make the call about where he goes.
He was apparently offered as part of the melo transfer – which fell through.

Last season Wenger took a gamble with Diaby / Denilson / Song stepping up to fill the DCM slot after failing to sign alonso and loosing 3 specialists in that area in Flam / Diarra and Gilberto. Where Song and Denilson made great progress, I think it would be negligent of him to take a similar gamble again this season given how our defense finished the season on its knees.

So no, IMO, I can’t see Sendy being kept and certainly not filling a role in DCM.

I still see us in the market for a DCM.

  85. Couldn’t agree more Silver Gunner.

It doesn’t make you any less of a supporter to favour certain players over others, and to make light hearted comments about others.

And just telling people to fuck off the moment they dont say something that fits in with your way of thinking is not massively intelligent is it?

  86. somehow there are people here who think they should just say complete trollish shite and never get called on it. I mean, we all talk shite, but if you come here talking pure horseshite, people will tell you.

If you pay attention and look closely, there’s a very healthy diversity of opinions here.

    What’s not tolerated;

    1. Regurgitated media shite.
    2. Patrick/Howard/Bodad & other racist monkeys
    3. Completely brainless comments
    4. Incessant bashing of players and moaning
    5. Perpetual Doom & Gloom mongering
    6. Chavism
    7. Spuds (shouldn’t be allowed in public places too).
    8. Glory hunters
    9. Plastics
    10. Gloryhunters

It’s a long list but in practice it’s really one type of person and it’s very easy to tell from the comments.

  87. I just can’t see it with Sendy. He was released on loan to Milan. He asked to stay at Milan. Milan refused to take up the option. He gave an interview whereby he said he had other offers. Wenger has since come out and said that the club is letting him make the call about where he goes.

  88. Oh, and watching the AW interview again, i get what he means about Eduardo.

Shame on the media that reported he is injured – the level of journalism in this country really does suck.

  89. Ole,

I agree to a degree, but what gives any one apart from Yogi the right to tell people to fuck off from this blog?

  90. i fit into all those 10 categories . most of the people here too.

  91. Like i said Ole

Dealing with as you would say trolls with witt and superior intelligence putting them in their place without resorting to vulgar name calling and swearing is the right way to go about it.
You have no right to tell some one to fuck off, it put you right down their on their level, or worse.

  92. I have to humbly agree with you too. However I have the right to tell Patrick to fuck off. Plus it’s fun.

  93. Educated person,a phrase that keeps popping up on this site.

What is the definition with regards to being uneducated with reference to this site,Arsenal or in general.

Educated or uneducated can both be mean and kind.

  94. Glort hunter,a much used phrase on many a blog.Again I ask what is the definition,as there appear to be several meanings more often used in the wrong context.

  95. sorry Glory

  96. Silver Gunner

kelsey, for me education has little bearing on the burning issue which is treating people with the civilty theu are entitled to, that goes for the so called uneducated and educated bloggers out there.

If someone needs shooting down, for a silly comment, this can be done by anyone without using random profanity.

  97. Glad Eduardo is ok…

    @gunnerjones

Interesting point you make about Senderos. He’s really not the guy to plug into that spot if you are pretty sure he’s leaving and you are looking for a replacement. It suggests that Wenger is already decided that the position is not going to be filled by a current squad player. Otherwise you’d be trying to get him as many minutes with the first team in that position as possible.

One of the aspects of the DM’s job that we really lack is the intimidation factor. Like Viera warning Roy Keane that he would pay if he kept obstructing the keeper on corners. The DM’s got to be a bit viscious. We just don’t have that. CF’s and Attacking MF players will put the boot right in on any defender, the keeper, etc. if the know that can get away with it. Tony Adams would break knees if you went in hard on an Arsenal player. Don’t get me wrong I love the beautiful football that we play but I miss the bit of nastiness in the our play that kept teams honest. We got chopped and harassed by some of the lower teams this past season. The word was that if you kick at us, we can’t play our football.

  98. .

  99. F*ck Off Patrick (AKA Sick Freak Howard).

  100. Ole,, yes i agree it can be fun, especially when dealing with the likes of Patrick, but it is just not right.
I do get a kick from some idiot getting put in his place, It just is alot more satisfing when its done right, i promise you they feel way more stupid than they do when sworn at.

  101. Strange. ACLF has turned into an old maids’ tea party.

  102. Major Santino,

How have you been? That was a good attempt at humour from your side. The mourinhio one. Where do you see us next season?

P.S There were only 9 categories( Glory hunter repeated twice). Don’t worry, you’re getting there.

  103. Silver Gunner

    axis

That can dude, Lorik Cana, from the french league fits the bill of the type of player you are looking at he is a monster but i fear that in the EPL refs would have a field day with and he would spend as much time in soho in front of an FA panel than on the pitch.

As per usual we as supporters will just have to wait and see.

  104. Silvergunner,
that’s was my whole point. Thank you.

Then Poliziano comes out with a bit sarcasm(I think).

No blog i have ever visited is perfect, but being civil to one another surely can’t be a bad thing.Age has nothing to do with it.

I don’t know what YW’s intentions are,but this blog is obviously growing in comments and hits, that in itself makes it harder to monitor.

  105. get over it ya jack-ass

  106. Poliziano, Ateeb,Kitchen Sink

Thanks for acting like the schoolgirl clique again. It will give me great pleasure updating the chart knowing how much you all hate it.
They rarely have a comment that isn’t just a reaction to someone else’s thoughts. At least Ole Gunner is capable of coming up with something new and thoughtful every day.

  107. Seems like the art of debate and conversation has taken a nosedive in recent hours…

  108. well YW, the one positive was that my chart prevented the comments section from turning into an all day anti-Myles Palmer rant. Come to think of it maybe that wouldn’t have been such a bad thing.

  109. To all those who believe civility is everyone’s due, you are wrong. You are not civil to the man who steals form you, the man who deliberatley kicks your dog or insults your children.

The idiots who come on here and spout rubbish deliberatly in an attempt to wind others up or destroy the blog do not deserve civility. Ignoring them is probably the best option but the other approach has it’s adherents and can be effective.

  110. Kelsey,
For the purpose of this blog, an educated person is someone who is able to comprehend the notion of free speech, and how it applies to a blog. He should understand that a person’s freedom of speech is determined by the law. Insofar as he can speak or publish without prosecution or censorship, he has freedom of speech. Laws related to freedom of speech and publication set the limits of what can appear on a blog, but they do not guarantee that anything can appear on a particular blog. That depends solely on the discretion of the blog owner. Nothing that happens on a blog in any way affects a persons freedom of speech.

  111. The other positive is that you’re now like the Ferris Bueller of the Arsenal blogging world. Everyone likes you, the trolls, the thought police, the gloryhunters…hell, even a few real fans too.

  112. Ateeb

thanks now i am major , for next season prediction i think bendtner is gonna replace ade and it will be huge step forward . no more ’20 offsides per game’ , no more ‘his first touch is a passback’ . no more ‘ his second touch is a tackle’,
and gladly no more headbutt your own player in a derby.

i think ramsy will step up and someone would have to make way . is it gonna be diaby ? i hope or denilson ? possible or cesc ? i dare not .

song will become the beast we all wanted not like the other beast from brazil .

i cant see any problems or vulnerability anywhere in the pitch .

selling adebayor was a master stroke by wenger .its like buying ronaldo benzima and kaka and getting some money for it. it will surely create feel good factor and lift players and fans.

i predict a double winning season for us.

  113. Haven’t seen either of the pre-season games, but some people on his blog have suggested we played 4-2-3-1.

Was this any different from our normal 4-4-1-1, or was it just that because we did all the attacking the two wide midfielders spent all their time up alongside the 2nd striker?

  114. The more I read this site, the more I understand the stance,if that is the correct word.
I agree if people just come on to wind others up,which is an art in itself, though rather time consuming, one wonders what else they have in their lives.
A lot of people spout rubbish, but not always intentionally.

Surely a difference of opinion with another blogger provided it can have a reasonable back up,does no harm.

I find it hard to believe that even 2 people have exactly the same views with regards to our club, the management, the players etc.So to get the impression that so many on here think exactly the same,is hard to swallow.

On the other hand some of the comments are very well thought out and interesting, which should promote debate.

I am just a fan,not a statitician and welcome the opportunity to debate or be corrected if i am wrong.

  115. kelsey

i agree 100% with you . everybody has different opnions and should be allowed to express it . if all true arsenal fans are alike then there is no need for comment section ,only need a button which states I AGREE ,or a . like G4E. By the way i think our quarterback is shit.

  116. Poliziano,

i understand what you say,but I am not as articulate as you,and i mean that sincerely.i just want to get a better feel to this site,so that one can at least be tolerated if not accepted, instead of the often first welcome of f*** off.
Anyway,I will not prolong this conversation, and thanks for your reply.

  117. kelsey, I don’t know.

Are you one of those who mix reasonable posts with wind ups? Are you genuine?

    Lets see shall we?

There are no thought police on here lagooner. I assume you mean those who will not tolerate idiots and timewasters. I don’t do that in my life whatever I am doing, wherever I am. Does that make me a ‘Thought Policeman’, or my own man?

  118. where is frank ?
    is someone bullied the bully
    most probably gone to preseason

Arsenal Arsenal Arsenal Arsenal Arsenal Arsenal

  119. ZimPaul,

I think Ramsey is more valuable than Eboue due to his potential. With a full squad and in a big game, they will both struggle to even make the bench, but as someone pointed out Ramsey might even be considered a viable replcament for Cesc in a couple of years. That’s why it would be a tougher loss than losing Eboue.

  120. Every once in a while though, Eboue shows flashes of what could be a brilliant player…short lived but still.

  121. Yogi's Warrior

    Consolsbob @ 5.35pm

Let’s just say, ignoring trolls would be the quickest way to get rid of them since their intention is to wind up. Telling them to Fuck Off is giving them the attention that they want and do not merit.

    YW

  122. JohnN: We have played 4-2-3-1 akin to last season but that’s mainly because we haven’t had two real forwards to play a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1. In fact in Austria, Ramsey wasn’t playing alongside Denilson therefore not really a 4-2-3-1 more a 4-4-1-1.

    1st Match: Arshavin behind Watt
    2nd Match: Diaby behind Bendtner

  123. lagooner

    i agree….

ramsey has the potential to be a 1st teamer within the next 5 years…

eboue has and always will be nothing more than a backup player…

out of the two….id rather lose eboue…

    hi kelsey..

  124. @Silver Gunner

True…Cana would be the right type. He has a lot fewer cards than one would think, but you’re probably right…the Refs in the EPL would be waiting for their chance to get him.

  125. Did someone call?

  126. axis i dont think canas good enough….

hes very agressive yes but agression alone is not what this team needs…if we wanted agression but no talent we could just sign joey barton….

technically i dont think hes better that what we already have so i dont think hes the right player for us…

we definately need someone in the CM role….i dont think canas the answer….we need someone in the petit/vieira/parlour/flamini mould….

who can break up play, get box to box, and mix it with the toughest of them…but at the end of it all they need to be able to fit the system…they need to be able to fit wengerball …or its just another weak link in the team……

i think cana would be a weak link……

  127. Thks Brain

  128. Consolbob,

I always write as I feel.Maybe not so wise on the internet,as basically you don’t know who you are talking to.To the best of my knowledge I have never wound up anyone on here.
I explained to someone privately that a few of us chill out on another channel (not LG),talk about a lot of things, not always football related, tell a few jokes, but never offer abuse to one another.I can’t speak for everyone but in the main, that is how we behave.

  129. “the petit/vieira/parlour/flamini mould”

From the sublime to the ridiculous.

  130. Honestly, I might swear like a sailor’s whore but I do like and appreciate civility. It’s tedious to keep on shooting down individuals directly. So for me personally, all points taken aboard.

But Poliziano got something really right. If all you do is come here and denigrate the players, the board, the manager and the club you simply have no right to complain about getting the same treatment.

Maybe that’s the heart of the matter.

  131. Ok Kelsey, We’ll see.

I agree Yogi. I cannot condemn those without the patience or the inclination to ignore idiots though.

We know who the trolls are. They are easy to spot. I see Tony has his own methods of dealing with them over on UA.

All in all, I prefer your approach.

  132. @JonJon

I can’t speak to his ability. Youtube highlight reels don’t show anything worthwhile. I guess I’m just reluctant to come to the conclusion that the player we most need might not actually be out there.

  133. @ Matt

“I agree to a degree, but what gives any one apart from Yogi the right to tell people to fuck off from this blog?

Presumably the same thing which other posters feel entitles them to insult players?

Just to be clear, I also don’t like name-calling and insults. However, I also believe that if you live by the sword, you die by the sword. There seems to be a sense amongst some commenters that insulting the team members or the manager doesn’t count – it doesn’t seem to register with the person as an insult. But other people will take umbrage on their behalf. If you identify with the team members, that is what happens. Is that any different from taking offence on behalf of another poster who you don’t know, either?

Another point: one person’s “lighthearted comment” is another person’s mortal insult. I laugh at the parodies and caricatures posted by Muppet or Doomer’s Family, other posters are deeply offended. If you put something out there, you have to take what comes back.
bendtner is gonna replace ade and it will be huge step forward . no more ‘20 offsides per game’ , no more ‘his first touch is a passback’ . no more ‘ his second touch is a tackle’,
and gladly no more headbutt your own player in a derby.”

Santino thinks this funny, it might seriously piss off someone else. It came across as if you were trying to wind up other posters. Just be aware that you’re dealing with very powerful emotions; some people feel about the players or the manager like they do about members of their own family.

It isn’t a question of people not tolerating other people’s viewpoints. It’s mostly an emotional response to how they express their views. Anybody can and does say what they want, but they can’t expect not to be challenged.

  134. Spot on, Fun.

  135. @ consolsbob
Agree with yours at 6:47pm as well. I try to stay civil, but I empathise with the people who get to the end of their tether.

    ***
On another note, how good was Ramsey last night?! Calmness, composure and vision – the head of a 28-year-old on an 18-year-old’s body.

  136. axis…

i agree the you tube highlights are abit of a poor way to judge a player….especially if youve never seen that player play….

i dont think wenger scour hours of you tube clips to find his next superstar…although its what erikson seemed to do at citeh…each to their own…

but i can guarantee theres alot of talent out there thats better than what we have….if the price is too high then wenger will try to develop what hes got….but when your coming into your 5 season without silverware im sure wengers got his backroom staff working over time to find him the right player for the right price…

i can see a signing real soon…especially now we have 25mil to spend…

  137. You see what I mean.

  138. Tony sure does have a good way of dealing with them on UA but they are plagiarists a far lower form of individual than a so called troll.

  139. JonJon

    Here’s to hoping you’re right!

    (…also nice post Fun.)

  140. No, Trolls are the worst kelsey. They have nothing to say, their entire point in posting is to wind somebody up.

    Plagiarists are just idiots.

Your grammar is improving, Should we be suspicious?

  141. yep… i don’t like swear words and definitely on the side of civility all the way.

see the point dun, consols and ole are making though…

all in all, lets make more effort to be civil and ignore those that are too bad, lets see how things unfolds

Pls sendy should stay… All are needed and i so want him to win trophies with arsenal. He should stay and fight for his place!

  142. Kelsey, in my opinion, is a doomer, but not a troll. There is a difference.

  143. consols

if it truly is the case that a trolls entire point of posting is to wind people up…then surely ateeb is the troll king..???

i think a spuds entire point of posting is to wind people up…so indeed they could be branded as trolls…

    or in my world arseh@les

people that have a differing opinion….are not trolls….pessimists yes….in some cases realists….but trolls.i think its a harsh word to use…

the word troll just seems like the easy way out to win an arguement…..

yet if someone threw the A.K.B line it would be just as bad….

i always see the words troll and doomer and gloomer branded about rather freely by some…yet its very rare i see the A.K.B remark…

    funny that aint it….???

  144. Sven said he is going to set up a scouting system at Notts County, does that mean he is going to buy the manager a DVD player?

As far as bringing in players, I believe AW thinks continuity is very important and therefore will only bring in players much better than those we have. He will not risk disrupting the team for a marginal improvement.

This differs from the view of for example Pep Guardiola who thinks it important to change things to freshen up the dressing room.

  145. hahahaha

    LMAO JohnN…and i agree

    DVD player….classic…

  146. JonJon,

No not nearly. I take being called an AKB as a compliment.

  147. Arsene does know.

  148. I am an AKB.

  149. I think that the AKB ‘remark’ is bandied about on some sites.

Those that do not bandy about ‘doomer’ or ‘troll’.

  150. I’m a fully paid-up member of the AKB, too.

    ****
    @ JohnN

    Good post

    lol about the DVD player.

England manager to Notts County manager…how the mighty are fallen.

  151. Card holding member of the AKB right here.

  152. JonJon,

The word AKB is bandied about quite often actually. You only need to share a peroni with some smashing blokes to hear that term often.

  153. Poliziano

    #

Kelsey, in my opinion, is a doomer, but not a troll. There is a difference

and what is the difference,do you mean more half empty than half full.

    Consolbob,

why are you so distrustful.I had to google plagiarists. i thought you would ask me how i knew.

  154. I have to agree with Pz, Fun, and CB.

  155. @ Team Spirit

I feel that the problem with the F offs etc, while deeply satisfying at the time, is that they enable the (non-Troll) poster to adopt a posture of moral outrage/righteous indignation and avoid answering any challenge to their argument.

  156. Another AKB checking in

  157. but an AKB is an arsene lover ole…not an Arsenal lover…

an AKB is someone who would of followed wenger to madrid if he went for example…..

its a word used to describe someone who doesnt really know alot about arsenal…someone who only follows arsenal cos they follow wenger….

its not a real fan…..so its quite a deregetory term to throw at someone….

just like the word troll is….its just as bad…

yet alot of people who are targetted on here for being trolls have never come out with the AKB line as a reply response…it just isnt cricket…

the only people that seem to be abusive are the ones who brand the others….and i only see one way branding….

its not a competition to see who the best fans are…we are all different..at the end of the day we still want whats best for the club…whatever our opinions are……

i would say it was more the AKB’s who were causing the division between the fans…and not the other way round……judging by the insults and tirades thrown by some…wouldnt you?????

maybe i look to much into things but from the outside looking in it appears that way….

  158. Troll King,

When did you usurp the crown of Mr. T?

  159. Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

  160. I remember when you first came here kelsey, in the wake of the Queen. I am suspicious.

    Google plagiarists. Really?

For your information, as I am reserving judgement, a troll is a complete and utter prat. A doomer is merely a sad bastard.

  161. JonJon,

Appreciating and cherishing Arsene Wenger is not incompatible with loving Arsenal. That is just a theory you and your mates love to spout. Does’nt make it true. An AKB loves what AW has done for the Arsenal. When he moves on, AKB’s will wish him well and move on. Comprende? Think not.

  162. You see, trolls are easy to spot.

Did you see the last one kelsey?

  163. Troll King>>Ateeb

As soon as Mr.T abdicated from the throne. But I surely can’t beat his last post, when it comes to winding people up. “an AKB is someone who would of followed wenger to madrid if he went for example…..”

    A classic example.

You can have the throne back, Mr.T.

  164. JonJon,

Though he was despised by rival fans, Mourinho was loved to death by most Chavski fans. Does it mean that those Chavski fans now support Inter Milan?

Do Mancs who love Red Nose become fans of retired senior citizens when he retires and quit watching football altogether?

  165. not really alex…

i apreciate and cherish wenger too…but im not an AKB….neither am i a troll or whatever else….

    im an arsenal supporter…

anyway my point wasnt to provoke arguement….i was simply making an observation…

  166. Troll King>>Ateeb

“maybe i look to much into things but from the outside looking in it appears that way….”

Go on. Don’t stop here, you had me mesmerized. Why keep this line at the end of your post, you should’ve started your comment with it. Now I await, your observation.

  167. Actually QOS gave me the benefit of the doubt if I remember correctly.

By google i meant the spelling.

however i can understand your uncertainty but sad bastard ,I think not.

Sad on many occasions, but that is an entirely different subject, and though you may think it unusual,I don’t drink, not even peronis.

  168. I don’t see what’s wrong with being an AKB – Arsene knows better than some jumped up blogger or poster with an over-inflated sense of his own importance. Liking and respecting the greatest manager the club has ever had, recognising his achievements and how far he has bought the club is not something to be ashamed of. I’m happy for him to get on with his job because I have sufficient insight to recognise that I have no knowledge of the real restraints he is working under. I have no intimate knowledge of the players and what is going on within the club, so I’m not arrogant enough to presume to tell him what he ‘should’ or ‘must’ do unlike some people.

  169. Really JonJon, saying that you are Arsenal supporter on an Arsenal supporter’s blog is about the most obvious statement you can make. People here dont need to clarify that they are AKB’s and also Arsenal supporters. That is understood. Atleast by people who can add 1 and 1.

  170. Gritting Troll

On behalf of all trolls, we grit for you Mr. T

  171. trolls, exist everywhere.I defended arseblog the other week,as I think as many of you do that he writes an informative blog, but the comment section is utter garbage as a rule, which is sad,but nevertheless a fact.

In fact there are far too many Arsenal blogs, many haven’t been updated for months.

  172. I think Arsene should hire, Passenal. She could give some lectures and speeches to the players when needed. Especially, when we’re a goal down, or before a big game.

  173. yeah good point alex

but the thing again with that is that someone like GG was held in the same high esteem as all the managers that have been mentioned at one point in time…

yet years down the line GG gets a right pounding off some quarters of the fans…just as many ex players do…

but people like GG have earned the right to speak and i will say the same about wenger in 15 years time….

  174. JonJon looks too much into things.

Brilliant! Best joke I’ve heard this year.

  175. Queen of Suburbia

John – surely a broadband connection for You Tube?

  176. Alex. Talking or yourself today? Solgooner seemed to do that for you yesterday.

    Was that welcome?

  177. JonJon,

Anybody who contributed at any point in there life to strengthening Arsenal as a club should be appreciated and GG has his own place in our history.

Its easy to see that you are a GKB (that is Graham and not G*off by the way) and that is fine. However, just because he gets pilloried by some fans does’nt mean that you need to compensate by belittling AW.

  178. Hi Consolsbob, had been busy at work and could’nt read yesterday’s post or the comments. I have’nt seen what Solgooner had to say and will check it out but suffice it to say that I represent myself and dont need anybody’s representation unless it is a blogger here who I really trust.

  179. JonJon,

I’m an Arsene-worshipper and Arsenal diehard. No false dichotomy…I don’t have to choose to be one of the two. I’m all of both.

  180. kelsey,

Arseblog’s comment section is very much like a suburban wives club. Have nothing against suburban wives clubs. Just don’t belong in one.

  181. I think you’re confusing Alex with AIC. There are two Alex here. One good and one bad. And yes its always black and white.

  182. Queen of Suburbia

    Oi!

  183. 4th the target

    YW

Do we really have a debate here?

This blog is a ‘hail the supremo” Arsene Wenger blog.

Arsene apologists. The man does no wrong even when its obvious he’s gradually pulling the club down.

YW is no more a moderator. He’s the conductor of Arsene Wenger Choir.

  184. Consolsbob,

Solgooner was referring to Alex Ice Cream when he mentioned my blog name. I dont know the guy ‘in real life’ as he claims.

  185. Queen of Suburbia

    You an Arsenal fan 4th?

  186. Well, I’m a diehard gooner, and if Arsene left I’d be pissed, but I still think he is the professor, the mastermind, le boss…all that good stuff. Heck, I even defend Tony Adams and he does/says some dumb shit. hahahha…but Wenger has certainly earned the respect that many have for him. Not just from fans but from the players and other managers. You have to give him his due…the man knows his football.

  187. well done ole…

im not categorising you….i never have and i never will….

that was my point….i dont categorise anyone just to win an arguement….yet the insults seem to fly alot in the other direction…

    alex…i aint anything mate…but an arsenal supporter…ive already said….

legends will come and go and they all will be loved for years to come….

but without arsenal there wouldnt be any legends….

wenger needs this club as much as we need him

i appraciate every thing hes done for us and long may it continue and he’ll always be a legend at arsenal….i would like to see a statue of him outside the emirates if i honest….

but i also realise that wenger wouldnt have been given the time at any other club to do what hes doing here….he would of been sacked by now…

that why i dont beleive he will ever go to madrid….4 years without a trophy….he would of been kicked out of the door after 18months….

weve got a good manager in wenger….but he knows hes got a good thing with us….so i dont worship him as much as others do…i do critisise but that doesnt mean im a troll….

  188. Fuck off 4TT.

  189. axis…well said…

    both about adams and wenger….

adams has said some things…but hes a legend still…

wenger has done some things but hes a legend still….

legends now and legends in 15 years….i would never slag wenger they way some people slag former managers and players do…..

they all deserve respect…and although they may not say the right things…they have earned the right to say what they say and not be slagged for it…

  190. Passenal is a lady, forgive me I didn’t know, not that it really changes anything i have said.

  191. :

  192. JonJon,

Another simple thing which you need to understand is that AW had to adopt the youth strategy when we moved to the Emirates. Was it a coincidence that the youth strategy elerged at a time when he did’nt have funds to invest in the team? Yes. What does that tell you?

It should tell you that unlike Bentez, Ferguson, Mourinho and others, AW is not a cheque book manager. His strategy to team building changes according to the needs and finances of the club. How many managers can say that today?

Lastly, if hypothetically AW were to go to a Real Madrid, he is smart enough to adjust to the needs of that club. Its as simple as that.

  193. Also, not for nothing – but it’s awfully easy to have all of our opinions with precious little real information and none of the true pressure or consequence of making the choices we think are so obvious. Considering that, and the boss’ success at the Arsenal, I should think that he deserves the benifit of the doubt. I’m sure he is quite fallible and maybe he is bringing the club down, but personally I’d be cautious to say so.

  194. For me AW is an outright visionary. A true great man. He’s one of those guys who if he’d been a journalist he’d win Pullitzers, a cop he’d jail serial killers….would have been great at any thing he’d done.

  195. JonJon is a sort of half-breed, sired by a troll, given suck by a doomer. We could call him a troomer, or perhaps a droll.

  196. Queen of Suburbia

Inside JJ there is a better Arsenal fan. Thats why he is here.

  197. alex…

how do you come to the conclusion that i dont know what the youth policy is about simply by the current debate we are having????????

ive said on many occasions what the youth policy is about and ive had several discussions on here with ole about it so dont got there…

ive also said that we are a selling club…backed up by the fact that wenger has tended to make a profit on transfers in his time here…..

dont patronise me i understand it more than what you do….

and let me give you an insight on a little well known fact….when GG took over as manager he changed the clubs fortunes by….yes you guessed it….bringing some of the youngsters through the ranks….

im not trying to compare and i aint saying the youth policy is rubbish.. AW’s doing a good job but weve always had a youth policy

where did the likes of adams parlour merson etc come from???

some of the kids that george brought in helped wenger win his first titles so dont make out the youth policy is a new thing invented by wenger….

  198. I bet the suburban housewives are not as prim as the old maids we had on earlier.

  199. When somebody knows more about a subject than you do he will at times make decisions you do not understand or agree with.

Sometimes those decisions will turn out badly. That doesn’t mean the decision was wrong. it may well have been the best chance of achieving the desired outcome. For example, if you are playing pontoon, you may know the the odds favour taking another card, but you do not know what card will turn up, so you may take the card and the result goes against you. That doesn’t mean it was a wrong decision.

If AW made all the same decisions as I would have made, I wouldn’t want him as Arsenal manager as that would show he knows no more than me.

When some of his decisions turn out wrong that doesn’t show he is a poor manager either.

Only if his decisions turn out to be consistantly wrong would I begin to say that he wasn’t the right man for the job.

Even then I would be on thin ice as I don’t know all the problems he is facing.

  200. JonJon,

Its quite safe to say that you dont know much.

  201. ^^ outstanding, John N!

  202. Alex, my apologies. Me compadres have put me right. You are clearly a righteous man!

    Good point John. No Fear.

I could never call JJ droll, Pz.

  203. ok alex…

    John…great comment…and thats why hes paid 6million a year….

in fairness though he doesnt normally get things wrong does he….id say his conversion rate on good decisions was 90%

but when he does make mistakes they are absolute stinkers i have to say….

but who doesnt make mistakes…everyone makes mistakes…if wenger was perfect we’d of won the treble the last 4 years on the trot…..

  204. “Sometimes those decisions will turn out badly. That doesn’t mean the decision was wrong. it may well have been the best chance of achieving the desired outcome.”

So you’re saying leaving Arshavin of the F.A cup final was the right decision. What about the C.L final, we could have kept Pires on, while taking Ljunberg off?!?! IT WAS SO OBVIOUS!!!

  205. Queen of Suburbia

Have you ever heard anyone on here say Wenger is perfect JJ?

  206. Wenger is perfect!!! That is why he knows, and in him we trust!!!

  207. Hiya folks

    Here’s my take, simple.

Arsenal is different to every other top club is important respects. A lot of criticism takes the club and its manager to task for the very things that give Arsenal its unique identity – in a sense they want Arsenal to be like ManU. They suck the joy out of supporting what Arsenal ‘is’.

That is the most dangerous criticism of all; it apes elements in the media that distort Arsenal’s considerable accomplishments (yes, even during the lean spells), because those achievements threaten the status quo.

Having a ‘different opinion’ is not a defence if that opinion undermines what makes Arsenal a great club. Opinions that seek to undermine what Arsenal has created, under Wenger over 13 years, are simply anti-Arsenal, and needn’t be dealt with by civility. Ole’s recent response to 4TT being a good example.

In general, if you support Arsenal one would expect a certain measure of respect and loyalty accorded to its manager, players and policies.

There is such a thing as constructive, humourous, witty, insightful and factual criticism – but really full of devotion and loyalty to the club.

Many of us on ACLF do not want ACLF to become like other blogsites, its a great space, so respect it. Otherwise support another club or just go.

    Bye for now.

  208. no QoS

and i wsnt asserting that either….

ateeb..i dunno about pires….we had that CL final but henry missed some sitters….wengers tactics were pretty much spot on under the circumsatnces…

AA on the other hand in the semi….and leaving song out…. wenger did mess up….but thats water under the bridge….

  209. eboue`s friend

    vive monsieur wenger.

  210. Queen of Suburbia

“In general, if you support Arsenal one would expect a certain measure of respect and loyalty accorded to its manager, players and policies.”

    Beautifully put.

  211. Sorry, but you all need to kill the AKB. I also think Arsene knows best but the acronym could also get confused for ‘Arry Knows Best.

Regardless, I’m in the give him the job for life camp. I would also have given him options for shares at a low strike price if I was on the board on top of the fat salary. Anything to keep him at the club. This is a man who has given the club Champions League football every full season he’s managed. Remarkable.

  212. “I bet the suburban housewives are not as prim as the old maids we had on earlier.”

LMAO…………..seriously Pz you have to stop!!!!

  213. The Doomer's Famlily

If only Arsene knew what we knew. We would’ve won the quantruple, five times over in the last 5 years.

  214. wenger will move upstairs when hes done…

we will see a director of football at arsenal and that man will be wenger….

    hopefully…

  215. Te think that’s supposed to be ‘the Doomers Flame Lily’

  216. Just as God has made this the best of all possible worlds, so Wenger has made Arsenal the best of all possible football clubs; and as with the world, so with Arsenal: the defects exist only the minds of the ignorant.

  217. Just clicked on JJ’s link…..this guy really is a moron.

  218. Great post ZimPaul.

  219. how to become a troll d&g and an akb all rolled in to one ?

where is alex ? he might help me

  220. …..Excellent post ZP…..my views on the matter to a T…..

  221. Maria, are you referring to the beautiful and succint post of JonJon on hs blog which goes –

    “Ade Signs For Citeh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
DING DONG THE WITCH IS DEAD!!!!!!!”

That was class now was’nt it.

  222. Well said ZimPaul – why does ACLF have to be like every other blogsite?

  223. No reason P…the same way as Arsenal doesn’t have to be like any other team.

  224. maria…

i wont be the 1st to say this but nice to see you still like to talk about football….

    alex….refering back to QoS comment

“In general, if you support Arsenal one would expect a certain measure of respect and loyalty accorded to its manager, players and policies.”

    Beautifully put.

ade showed no respect whatsoever so what respect should he get in return…if you miss him that much than you know what ground to find him in….

  225. Ade Signs For Citeh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
he is our hero he knows best
so lets follow him to the citeh

is there still any a(de) k bs here ?

  226. The Doomer's Family

    Come gather ’round doomers
    Wherever you roam
    And admit that the waters
    Around you have grown
    And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone.
    If your club to you
    Is worth savin’
    Then you better start dooming’
Or we’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are not changin’.

    Come trolls and doomers
    Who prophesize with your keyboards
    And keep your eyes closed
    The chance won’t come again
    And always speak too soon
For the transfer mill is still in spin
    And there’s no tellin’ who
    That we’re bringing’.
    For the loser now
Will never be able to win
For the times they are not changin’.

    Come ex-players and pundits
    Throughout the land
    Please do criticize
    What you can’t understand
    Your successors
    Are beyond your command
    Your old road is
    Rapidly agin’.
Please help us take out the new one
    And lend us your hand
For the times they are not changin’.

    The line it is drawn
    The curse it is cast
    The slow one now
    Will always be last

  227. JonJon,

You are the big away fan are’nt you? Perhaps you could stay back at Citeh next time and rid us of your banal arguments? Take your lapdog Santino when you do go though.

I mean you are supposed be an Arsenal blog writer for god’s sake and that was your post. Its not even a comment. It is the whole post. Tell you just how high brow a blog Avenell Road is.

  228. Queen of Suburbia

No its simple. Thanks Ade for the goals, i hope you never score another one unless its to beat Man U and hand us the title.

  229. Queen of Suburbia

I’ve never read that blog before – its basically people I haven’t seen at Le-Grove for a while!

  230. I like it Doomers Family!

  231. alex..

    yep

and ill be at the eastlands ripping the shit out of adebayor all game long…..im taking my adebayor money with me and im throwing it at him…..

i joined citeh and turned down barca to win trophies….my arse he did….

and ive told you before about the posts…if you dont like em..dont read em…yet you still do????

  232. no QoS…

we treat Ade the same way we treat cashley…

    we boo the prick…

  233. Well JonJon, its like this. I still cant believe how bad your posts are. Its like watching a live train wreck. In slow motion. I am enthralled. You have me hooked fella.

  234. Alex

glad you didnt move on with ade to the blue side.
it would have been a bigger miss than ade.

i highly doubt ‘the akbs will follow arsene to the madrid’ theory . all the ‘ade is god’ people are still here.

  235. YW, and anyone else commenting on civility before, look at this comment:

    “Ade Signs For Citeh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
he is our hero he knows best
so lets follow him to the citeh

is there still any a(de) k bs here ?”

This is a moronic comment with no value whatsoever. To me the only correct response is to point out that Santino is a fucking moron.

  236. Yes Alex sadly I am…..my poor eye’s expanded no end….I mean if my pleasure in Arsenal solely came from the amount of games we won or mocking our own players i would most surely have moved on the Chelski…..if you want to win a few trophies playing anti-football…..and hate your own players well there’s rich pickings over there…….. you could choose from the like’s of……

Drogba; the only black MAN that i have ever seen with relaxed hair which also looks tatty but seem to be his pride and joy.

JT:looks 40, runs like it and is worse of all just an average player.

Cashley Cole…….the name says it all!!!

Ballack: Just a hard faced psycho…….need i go on???????????????

  237. poli

very progressive__ Droll’s and Troomer’s.. sneezing out advanced species..

  238. ole gunner

you were the one who said our only chance to win the league is clinging on to ade ? do u change your mind now ? i know it hurts .i bet you cried when cashly left too.

  239. Also is it me or is Ramsey looking quite the player??

His really impressed me since that game in Cardiff.

  240. Maria, I love you.

Er, not like AIC obviously. I mean, not creepy or anything, I just like your mind.

    Honest.

  241. santino,

Do you like anything about the Arsenal?

  242. i aint said anything against arsenal mate. ade is now a city player . wake up .

  243. Passenal,

Didn’t like coming up with it. Made me sad. There is no end to these f*****s. You get rid of them, and they’re back with changed names, or some just slip in, unnoticed. And than you have the same ridiculous debates, that somehow some people always end up getting drawn into. Heard it all before.

  244. Santino, what do you think of the current Arsenal squad?

  245. Major Santino, haven’t you learned to fuck off, yet?

  246. alex

read my 5:41 pm comment , actully it was for ateeb but i dont think he reads all these d &g troll windups.

  247. @ Bob

…..well if you insist……but will be keeping a eye on that front in the near future….*winks*

@ Jon Jon that post @9.:25 was directed towards you by the way….

  248. Fuck off Santino. (Only correct response). His comment wasn’t intended to engender debate or civil response and shouldn’t. How do you respond to that?

    Maria,

When I talk to Shellsey fans I point that out. And I let them know that’s why they’ll never be a truly big club or have a truly loyal fan base beyond chavs- Not since that old Wimbledon team have I seen any squad so full of utter c–ts (pardon my French).

Just look at them, Drogba, Fat Frank, Terry, Cashley, Ballack-then baby c–ts like Bosingwa, Mikel, and borderliners like Anelka (gets a discount for his Arsenal links), Ivanovic…..all run by a backroom staff including the likes of Kenyon.

Thinking of Chelsea leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Just rub me the wrong way in too many ways.

Still don’t hate them as much as the mancs though because the mancs at least seem a bit more worthy of utter disgust.

  249. cesc is pretty armied up with his new hair cut..

    welcome to weapon world

  250. Aaron Ramsey looked good. He’s another reason for Wenger to be wary of buying another midfielder.

  251. And RVP, is going to tear down defences. And he won’t hit no posts this season. All of them will go in. And the curling freekicks. Can’t wait for the season to start!!!

  252. Honestly I think we have the best offensive players in the league.

    fabregas, arshavin, eduardo,nasri,rosicky,rvp,bendtner,vela,walcott.

    Which team is like that??

  253. Also has Arseblog reaaaaaaaaally gone downhill since i have been away or is it me???

“Young Arsenal forward Snoop Doggy-Dog talks about his experience playing up front with Andrei Arshavin. Word.”

WTF……..and this was a link to young Watts from the youth team!!!

    Borderlin Legrove in my eyes.

    @ OG

The majority of Chelski fans understand the disparity in class between the two clubs but there are those few that are in denial….which usually consist of the fans that supported them before the mob money.

  254. cem,

I agree. Unfortunately it’s also been our bane for 3 seasons as they’ve all suffered injury or been injury prone. Except Bendtner…

But I agree…last season if we had everyone fit we had very much the best offensive lineup in the league. Now we still do, because Man poo lost the fake Ronaldo.

  255. When I consider our squad, I feel astonished that any club could assemble so many great players.

  256. next season if our defence holds firm, we’ll win the league because i don’t see another team scoring as many goals as Arsenal.

Usually I’m not an optimist, but this is clear for everyone to see

  257. We have a strong defence as well. It might even get stronger, as I still think there’s a possibility of signing Bassong.

  258. Poliziano

Man Utd ,Liverpool and Chelsea can.Take a look at last years league tell.Or was that just a dream?

Nasri injured, now Eduardo and the season hasnt even started

  259. Sun Tzu say….

When your strength less its full
    Your weak more powerful

  260. ^^ ha ha, Pz

  261. Nasri’s injury won’t effect us as much as the media would have us believe. If Rosciky is fit enough, Nasri’s place in the first xi would not have been guaranteed anyway

  262. Last couple of seasons we had a serious blow to our strongest department which put a heavy strain on our weakest department and made it weaker becaquse there was no strength to counterweigh it.

  263. Believe please….

    believe

  264. You have to love Pravda.com dont you. On the day The Greedy one says he has gone to Citeh to win things the planks at Pravda.com are praising him!!!!!

  265. rat boy,

The Greedy one…is that a film about the Russian mafia hence why it’s on pravda.com?

  266. I’m dead serious. I’m not concerned about City at all because I honestly believe we are going to fight for the title.

Remember our form when Walcott, Arshavin, and Fabregas all returned in April? That was title winning form. Now all the players have more experience. I truly believe last campaign was a harsh lesson and they surely have learned a lot.

And United are weaker, Liverpool and Chelsea are the same, whereas we welcome back Arshavin, Rosicky and Eduardo for a full season.

Look at the positives. There are many…

  267. cem

There’s this American phrase I really like…”preaching to the choir”…that’s hat you’re doing mate.

  268. Ole Gunner..

and what does that mean mate???

  269. I’m not English so please explain

  270. i think its a praise cem

  271. ohh ok santiano

    thanks hehe

  272. you earned it cem you earned it

  273. i just write what i believe.

  274. haha

  275. belief as arsene might have put it.

  276. cem

It means you are trying to convince people who already agree with you.

  277. yes belief.

  278. Cem,

    Please ingore Santino.

  279. Fungunner,,

maybe but I read alot of negative comments on here as well so surely not everybody think like I do. It just makes me sad when people jump on the bandwagon and critisize the players and wenger. We are good enough to win the title

  280. Kill me anyone for saying this but JonJon’s blog-in the planet of Arsenal blogs, seems a reasonable blog. I don’t agree with the commenters but they don’t really fit more than one of the 9 categories which isn’t too bad…

  281. Has anyone read Arsenal Truth….that guy hates puppies if they’re Arsenal puppies…

  282. don’t mention the Arsenal troof , he is truly the worsest..

  283. “Unlike your dozy, lazy, greedy, big mouth, whore strike partner.”

Qoute from that site at the end of an article that didn’t even include Ade…….still an Arsenal player at this time.

There really is NO excuse for this OG….that will ever be acceptable to me regardless of the other filth that surrounds Arsenal fansites nowadays.

  284. @ OG

N what is up with Arseblog…??

  285. see where you’re coming from Maria..alright then goodnight.

  286. er. whats all this about Eds, havnt the time to read all the articles, is he injured?

  287. Is no one going to mention Steven Gerrard?

  288. Maria @ 11.07 pm – if you depend on ‘hits’ to get paid, it’s inevitable that eventually you go the tabloid route and appeal to the lowest common denominator.

  289. No duke, a few doomers got carried away after misinterpreting what AW said after the game yesterday.

  290. Okay Poliziano, I never knew Gerrard had such a good punch!

  291. Has Stevie G been ‘exonerated’ then?

  292. I don’t think there’s any chance of him being exonerated. There’s video evidence and eye-witness testimony. All his chums have admitted guilt, and Gerrard is the guiltiest of the lot.

  293. Stevie G is a thug. The video clearly shows the victim being elbowed hard in the face. While he is still stunned, Gerrard follows up with a few upper-cuts. To claim that is self-defence is laughable.

  294. Excellent, Doomers!

  295. The great Scouser is just frustrated that the most points his team has won in the league in 20 years is only good enough for second place..lucks run out just goes to show the Scouser’s are always up for a scrap..

  296. 1 loose cannon

George Graham dismissed our chances then Fergie came out with his usual tosh the latest to join them is our old boy Cashley, he said ‘The players they’re ( Man city)buying are good and they might gel, click straight away and it’s magic. But you can’t really say until we see them play. I hope they do because I have friends there. I hope they do really well and finish above Arsenal.’
if we win the title this year it will taste sweeter than ever and I’m confident we will be far better this year. We have a very good squad and I’m happy even if we don’t buy we just need some luck on the injury front.

  297. Poliziano

Just as God has made this the best of all possible worlds, so Wenger has made Arsenal the best of all possible football clubs; and as with the world, so with Arsenal: the defects exist only the minds of the ignorant.

    No other comment needed, PPP.

  298. that is some soppy shit lagooner.

  299. lagooner………do you have a thing for Pz???

  300. Your attention ratio towards Pz is really getting out of hand.

How about commenting on ZP great post earlier today??

  301. actually dukegoonem, those were pz’s exact words. Thanks for pointing out exactly what I thought too.

Maria-I don’t have an issue with pz. In fact, if you look at earlier posts today, he continues to make unprovoked attacks. I knew by putting up a chart I would get a reaction because he spends most of his time trying to knock down others. Just giving him a taste of his own medicine, that’s all. It would be nice if you looked at some of his earlier posts to see where I’m coming from. My attention ratio is limited to pointing out his pomposity and dismissive attitude to anyone (and there have been several targets) who is not part of his little clique.

I’ve said before that there’s a very small group of posters that act like a clique, chiefly lead by Ateeb and Pz. The vast majority of posters here are not trying to score points at the expense of others, but are on here just to exchange thoughts and opinions. People like Ole Gunner manage to strike the right balance, and I agree completely with his critique of those posters who just come on here to cause trouble. If you look carefully at my posts over the last few days (not that I would wish that upon you) you’ll find that I’m far more positive than negative, and have mostly counter-attacked rather than picked the fight in the first place.

Btw, I did post to commend The Doomer’s Family on his excellent poem, but I also enjoy reading ZP’s posts, along with yours too.

  302. California Gooner

Yes, LA Gooner, Poliziano is our local Dr. Pangloss… of course the analogy breaks down when one realizes that even if this isn’t the best of all possible worlds, for an Arsenal fan it is a pretty damned amazing one — better than most of us deserve.

  303. Only a moron would gain more pleasure from rubbishing Ade and his move to City than praising and talking about the current Arsenal line-up.

Here’s a question for the morons. What if Ade really wanted to stay at Arsenal and was ever so gently pushed? Not for reasons that he was ‘bad’. Sometimes a manager weighs up options and decides, this is a good player, but he just doesn’t fit into long term plans. I have to set priorities. I have no doubt Wenger sincerely acknowledges Ade when he says ‘we have lost a great player’.

Then the moron comes along and says ‘Ade’s a c**t”. Can you spot the difference? It’s as if the moron is content to wear a sign tattoo’d on his forehead that says “I’m an idiot. Geddit?”. I get embarrassed for Arsenal ‘fans’ sometimes.

There is not a shred of evidence that Ade sought to harm Arsenal, or went an underhand route to leaving the club. If anything he was naive. He was an effective player during his Arsenal spell. The ‘outrage’ at his leaving smacks of a stupid kind of racism, like kicking an easy target.

This mob-mentality is all very un-Arsenal.

  304. zimpaul
i just cant agree with you. when cashley leaves for more money , he is public enemy no.1 .when ade did the same thing he certainly get praised for it. hypocrites.

  305. Santino. Who is praising him? When? How? All that is stated is fact – he was an effective player.

How do YOU know he left, and wasn’t quietly pushed? Why don’t you listen to the opinion of the manager, the one guy who actually knows?

There is no comparison with Cole, who went on to write a book tearing Arsenal apart, and was the complete mercenary. Ade was only at Arsenal for what 3 seasons. What about Wiltord? Anelka?

You my friend are a complete fool. If Ade left it is because Wenger decided that.

  306. I would like to endorse every word of ZimPaul’s posts this morning, and politely request that santino learn to think and then write before coming back.

  307. Ade – bought for 7m sold for 25m, earned maybe 7m tops, making a net net for Arsenal of 11m + 3 years work and fifty goals. And somehow in this Ade is a big bad bully.

  308. Latest……Chamakh is going to sign for Sunderland in a 10mil deal. Worth 40k a week.

I’m relieved we didnt get him cos according to Bordeaux’s fans, he’s worse than adepaymemoresoi’llbeyourwhore. Chamakh just couldnt shut his gob this summer about wanting a move….keeps saying that Arsenal is dream and the premier league is the best place to be and stuff like that.

Just imagine next summer…..Chamakh would go out and say things like this….”Real is the pinnacle of a footballers climb. I have been a fan of real since i was in my mama’s womb. It would be an honour to play for such a team”….’With Real’s president answering the call with this ” having marrouane would be like getting ur long lost son back after years in the wilderness…come to papa me iho !!!!!”

  309. ZimPaul,

Maybe I’m reading too much into this, but I detected a little subtle criticism from Wenger when he said Adebayor always put in great effort when he was on the field. The emphasis that his on field effort was strong seemed to hint at some concerns Wenger had with Ade’ off-the field attitude and effort. I might be over-analysing things here, but Arsene always chooses his words very carefully, and his emphasis on Ade’s on field performance stood out a little when he could have said he put in great effort and left it at that.

  310. ZimPaul

Ade is not a bully. Who said so? He’s just a money grabbing judas. He likes whore his arse off to the highest bidder.

If the spuds came in with a 300k a week offer, he will take it…trust me. The man has no honour. His word is not his bond. He is a politician at best. A hippo is more honourable than him.

  311. He likes to whore his arse ….

  312. Zimpaul,

Why the hell do u need to defend that piece of garbage anyway?

  313. well said, California Gooner!

  314. Max_Gunner

Why the violently hateful language? ZimPaul was just pointing out that Arsenal aren’t exactly walking away with nothing out of the relationship.

  315. Marca are reporting that Klass-Jan Huntelaar has broken off negotiations with Stuttgart, and that he is interested in a move to the premiership. They are stating that his preference is Arsenal. Initially though, he will be returning to training.

  316. I thought the discussions broke down over his wage demands? I think the Arsenal connection is a red herring.

  317. Yeah – bs from Marca.

  318. 1 loose cannon

Passenal that’s right its over compensation of 2 millions from Madrid as he will be getting less at Sttutgart and he wants the rest of the money that he sign for at Real Madrid. He has nothing about Arsenal

  319. 1 loose cannon

Correction ” He has said noting about Arsenal”

  320. Cali and La Gooners.

    Great posts guys!

    Keep the faith.

  321. By your friends ye shall be known.

  322. lagooner,
I’m sorry you were upset by my comment about your indispensable top 30 chart. It did not reflect any personal animosity. I was simply reporting the general consensus amongst informed readers that your chart was a heap of sh*t.

As for my use of Leibniz’s theodicy to praise Wenger, again I can only apologise for upsetting you. My comments are written for the educated general reader – a category that evidently excludes you. When you read a comment that is beyond your comprehension, it is perfectly natural for you to feel resentment, and you reveal a touching lack of self-love by so clearly acknowledging your resentment.

  323. Poliziano,

With every word you write you expose that little chip on your shoulder even further. Someone who keeps hammering on about being ‘educated’ sounds like a person who’s education didn’t help them a great deal other than giving them a false sense of superiority.

What really happened to you, pz? Laid off recently? Wife left you for Ice Cream Alex?

Pray tell-someone here might be able to help.

  324. correction-whose, not who’s. Not educated enough to avoid typos.

  325. Artificial Intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

  326. btw, as your friend DukeGoonem unwittingly said of your pompous words, “that is some soppy shit”

    I guess Consolsbob is right…..

  327. Behind your ‘Californian’ pose as a reasonable, ‘laid back kind of guy’ there is a man who seems to delight in being unpleasant.

I do not know why you want to keep stoking a feud with some posters here. Perhaps you seek popular acclaim with those who gleefully feed off your attempted put downs. Perhaps you really beieve that you see things better than others.

  328. Consolsbob, you’ve just described yourself

  329. Consolsbob,

The real problem, as perfectly evidenced in pz’s comments immediately after I put a perfectly harmless chart up, is that a few of you only know how to throw punches but start moaning when anyone punches back. When someone stands up to your bullying, out come the crocodile tears.

The ‘fax’ (as Rafa would say) is that I’m not looking to pick a fight with anyone. I’m more than happy to have no interaction with you, pz, ateeb etc as most of the energy you put out there is negative.

  330. Bob,

I think you should re-direct you comments to Pz who gratuitously cuts others and stokes feuds.

To foster any kind rational debate – “the Lion must learn to lie with the lamb”.

  331. What a lot of old tosh.

Is this the best that the New World can come up with? You claim that you are just giving us back a taste of our own medicine. A punch for a punch.

Sorry, doesn’t wash. You just don’t get it. No sense of humour, no insight into what posters are actually trying to do here. I mean all posters, not just those of us with ‘negative energy’ but those like your friends AIC, Joe and James.

Me? I’ll take Duke, PZ, Ateeb and so many others every day over the likes of them. They are the time wasters, the whiners and the plain stupid. In no particular order.

  332. You’ve made some interesting accusations, lagooner, but after a great deal of soul-searching I have had to conclude that they are erroneous. It is true I have a sense of superiority, but it is not false. I had that sense of superiority, however, long before I had any education worth mentioning. In fact, I can’t remember a time when I lacked a sense of superiority. As for whether education helped me a great deal, that is a subtle question – perhaps rather too subtle for you. I have always loved learning, and have continued learning throughout my life as a source of pleasure. Although I have gained some esteem among others of a like mind, I dare say I have not received the universal acclaim that you have enjoyed.

  333. Funny Consolsbob, but up until a week or so ago, I didn’t have a clue who AIC, Joe and James were.

Sense of humor? You can’t even find the funny side in Duke ridiculing pz because he didn’t realize I had just copy and pasted pz’s pomposity.

As I said before, we really don’t need to interact. You and your cronies exist for knocking others down. It’s just amazing to see your outraged reaction when you get called on it.

  334. pz-that soul-searching took all of 45 minutes. Sounds about right.

  335. You’re right, lagooner. The comment about soul-searching was just an attempt to apply balm to your injured pride. The truth is, I immediately recognised your accusations as rubbish, just as I, and everyone else, recognise all your comments as rubbish.

  336. lagooner, you’re not welcome here. This blog is for pompous pseuds who spout soppy shit.

  337. No outrage here lagooner. Can’t say as how I’ve noticed any on the part of others either. There have been far worse things said on here about me before. Who cares?

Don’t credit yourself with any ability to cause ‘outrage’. There are some big, bad men out there in the world who have a monopoly on that.

I will continue to have enjoy this site by reading and contributing as I see fit. Educate, inform, entertain.

You may not know your new friends, lagooner, but they know you.

Oh, and if you think you ‘get’ Dukes’ humour…

  338. pz-did you really think I thought for a moment you were being sincere? How cute.

  339. Consolsbob-

Sorry, but I didn’t claim to ‘get’ Duke’s humor. It had nothing to do with his humor, just my amusement that he unintentionally put down pz because he thought those words belonged to me.

Now that I know that your purpose is to educate, inform and entertain, I can’t wait to read your future comments for all the enlightening it will provide. Hopefully, it will exceed pz’s ‘all your comments are rubbish’ intellectual threshold.

  340. Goodness gracious me, what a palava.

  341. Any one of those would do lagooner. For any of us.

  342. Paulie Walnuts

    Funniest story of the day

    Bendtner to Milan for £10M

  343. Ashley Cole, what a wanker

  344. Yeah Paulie Walnuts the jouno’s have nothing to write about so they start fabricating stories.

  345. James he is but the “I want arsenal out of the top 4 story” is another piece of journalistic spin cashley actually ended the quote saying only joking but they have nicely chosen to omit that.

  346. Silver Gunner, He still could of not mentioned Arsenal at all, he’s basically just gaurenteed himself more vicious abuse.

  347. Paulie Walnuts

    Silver G,

It sounds like a typical hack job on Cashley but you would think he`d know better to say things like that even in `jest`.

  348. Didn’t wenger come out and say that were after Chamakh? If so, why’s chamakh talking to sunderland?

I have a feeling were going to sign Huntelaar

  349. Go figure. Cashley backing the team full of overpaid divas. God I want to put a few knuckle imprints in his face.

  350. Haaahaha the official site has rubbished the Edwardo story, and said he will play on monday

  351. Passenal last night, and others are blaming the media for the Eduardo injury rumour. Sorry but Wenger’s comments suggested it, and it was clear to some of us moments after the interview. I even communicated it to Arsenaldotcom.

Wenger’s exact comments were “in the next 2 months Eduardo back as well”.

It was a slip but wondering if Eduardo was out is a fair reading of Wenger’s comments.

  352. Wenger didn’t say we are after Chamakh, he said we might be after Chamakh. Substantial difference.

  353. Maybe Ole, but the glee with which the media swooped on the comments means that who ‘started’ it doesn’t really matter.

  354. I talked to a journalist friend this morning who’s been in America covering Chelski, and he tells me that within Chelski they’re very confident for the season because they think;

    1. They were better than Arsenal last season and will be next season.

    2. Man poo are weaker.

    3. Liverpool are weaker.

    4. They haven’t lost any players, and Zhirkov has been good in training, while they think all their big players are back to their best, and they’ll bring more players in.

He says they sound like they believe they’re much stronger than the other teams and feel they’ll win the European Cup next year.

I look at Chelsea and see a squad that somehow manages to be less than the sum of their parts. I don’t expect them to win the league next year.

  355. Ole Gunner, They’ll have Essien back next year so I wouldnt write them off

  356. Ole,

    Some interesting comments concerning Chelsea.

Although they themselves have proved that chopping and changing managers every five minutes is not a good thing.

They may of edged us last season, but whilst they are getting steadily older, we are coming in to our prime, and have 2 of our best players returning, so are clearly going to be stronger than last year.

Man U will clearly be slightly weaker, as they no longer have the best player in the world.

I don’t see why Pool will be any weaker – they missed Torres for a big chunk of last season, and have not (as yet) sold any players.

I think the League will be fairly open this season, and i definately believe we have as much of a chance as anyone.

  357. Hell there are some oddities on here of late.

LA goon – are you an american in LA or an expat?
Max- gunner – I simply state facts, you spout hate
Joe – …. oh never mind

And in my head YW is barking DNFTFT-YI

ConsolB and Pz – I really do enjoy your posts

  358. expat, ZimPaul.

  359. Just when it had all calmed down….

  360. I know West Coast quite well as it happens, Bay area a little better than LA. There’s a great jazz academy at UCLA.

  361. Hello James.

  362. I was in SF before moving to Los Angeles, and love the Bay Area too. How about you ZimPaul. Are you in England now?

  363. Hello Zimpaul, lets put a freindly sportsmans bet on Eboue this year ok? If Eboue has an ok season, helps the team and doesn’t cause any unnecessary trouble, I’ll come on here and say you were correct and I’m a knob (no tittering) and all that stuff.

If he acts the fool and costs us points, you come on here and say ‘Eboues a clown’.

    Deal?

I honestly mean this in a non hostile way, just something to make the season even more interesting

  364. Ole

I must disagree Wenger’s words were once again twisted to create further unrest ..he did say:

“The options are Tomas Rosicky who is back. And in those two months Eduardo will be back as well.”

Which can easily be misconstrued to something else but although he is extremely well spoken, English isn’t his first language: there for the order in the way things are said can be re-arranged resulting in a loss of clarity, which the media relishes ready to gorge themselves with their hunger for controversy.

  365. No LA, I’m in Harare, Zimbabwe. I’m fond of the Chinatown of SF, and in the Italian quarter there’s a wonderfully subversive bookshop that seems to stock every writer that’s ever been banned, canned, thrashed and denigrated. My wife studied at Berkeley, hence the connection.

  366. Of the Big 4, Chelsky scares me the most this year. Granted it was only a friendly the other night against Inter, but they were moving the ball incredibly well, flying around the field and being feisty. We can measure up to them on certain days, certainly. All I’m saying is that I’d feel very comfortable, today, picking them ahead of Liverpool and Man U this season.

  367. kitchen sink, to be fair to the press, I was a little worried myself when he said it. At least for once the website has done its job and nipped the speculation in the bud, if only they done that more often

  368. You’re on James!!

How ’bout a neutral ref? I mean he might score a few wonder goals AND throw a tantrum, which will make it 1-1. Cause havoc down the flank AND trip over his shoelaces twice. 2-2. I vote for Queen as a level-headed referee.

  369. Paulie Walnuts

I would say Chelsea are cocky rather than confident.

Had Hiddink stayed I may have agreed but Ancellotti may be another Scolari for all we know.

The EPL is new for him & he`s got some rather large ego`s in that dressing room.

On the pitch I still see them as functional & flair less.

Cech isn`t the keeper he was & the majority of the squad are past their best if not over the hill.

Man U & Pool will be strong but I`m enjoying the pundits writing us off already.

  370. AW missed out the word ‘those’ from your text above KS, which is what caused the confusion for such simple minds such as mine.

The usual suspects of the media and blog world’s then jumped on it, added 2 and 2 and got 10.

  371. From the top 4 I think Chelsea have the best starting 11 (replace ballack with Yuri, Carvalho instead of Alex).. but dont think their bench is as strong as ours.. Have to see how they cope with injuries and the ACN.. That I see as their only weakness otherwise they are the team to beat this year..

ManU are weaker, no ronaldo and tevez.. liverpool are the same but Gerrard will be in prison !! :)

  372. ZimPaul, Yeah I’d be happy with the impartial view of the Queen of Sub.

You watch now I bet he’ll have the season of his life

  373. Zpaul, ur right. I hate adepaymemorandi’llbeyourwhore as much as the mobile phone f@%ker ashley. So what? I dont care about facts concerning those 2 arse wipes. U can stuff those facts up cashley’s arse. He’ll love it.

  374. yes Matt considering the already mentioned and the scenario with which the situation takes place, its best to take things with a pinch of salt unless Arsene reviews an incident with more interest.. I for one was worried when people alerted to that interview as I had listened to it after the game but found no impression from Wenger of Eduardo having lost any progress..

  375. Arsechicago, If chelsea keep Terry which I think they will, they’ll definitely be challenging. Essien for me is the best DM in the world. He’ll of had a few games and will make them solid again. Man U will be weaker but you cant trust Ferguson when he says about not buying anyone, he always has something up his sleeve. Liverpool I think will fade a bit, just a hunch.

  376. Arsenal has by far the best team. Arsenal deserves to win. One never knows what fate will bring, but it is certain that if a team other than Arsenal wins, they will have done so undeservedly.

  377. Ole Gunner @ 11.47 am – I watched that interview too and I did not come away with that impression at the time. I heard it as Rosicky is back and Eduardo will be back. He did not say Eduardo is back because he had not played any part of a game yet unlike Rosicky. The first I thought I may have got it wrong was when I saw other blogs and media suggesting otherwise. But I’m sure the interviewer would have asked a follow up question if he thought Arsene was saying that Eduardo was out for another 2 months. Like Kitchen Sink says, Arsene is not a native English speaker and as fluent as he is, he sometimes constructs his sentences in a way that might cause some confusion.

  378. Kitchen Sink,

I heard the interview myself and while I suspected Wenger didn’t mean it, his words did suggest that Eduardo will return in 2 months. The official website should have clarified it straightaway.

  379. Passenal,

When I listened to the interview live, I didn’t get that impression too, especially since Arsene had mentioned Eduardo amongst offensive options. However, the exact words Arsene used did suggest that Eduardo will come back in 2 months. You didn’t have to twist his words to read it like that- Nobody is blaming Arsene….obviously it was a slip. But it should have been corrected by the official website immediately. They eventually did that today

  380. I still hope Senderos would stay though.
