Past, Present And Future

A transfer speculation free morning it seems which is just as well since a night at the gee-gees has left me feeling a bit hoarse. Too much Corporate Horsepitality I think. I did not promise a pun-free zone though.

Martin Keown had some things to say about the defence yesterday, in particular putting to bed the asinine story in As…no, I still cannot bring myself to say his name…alleged autobiography:

I think Ashley was probably referring to the general arrogance of Philippe that may have been apparent at that time. Since then I’ve seen the complete opposite; he was very sure of himself but he appears to have gone the other way and become too critical of himself.

I was asked to work in a mentoring fashion and perhaps Ashley saw something which he deemed not overly respectful. However, it wasn’t something that Philippe demonstrated to me

When the story first emerged, I was surprised since Senderos has never seemed an overly-arrogant person from what I have seen. Well, no more than any other player has to be with the requirement for self-belief.

Keown had words of encouragement for the Swiss international:

If he has been able to learn from his loan move and if he is given another chance, he’s only going to be better. The thing with Philippe is he needs to learn the game.

He’s a highly intelligent individual but at times he’s made elementary mistakes on the pitch. Football intelligence is a different experience to that off-field. What will be fascinating to see is whether he has improved those elements that he needed to.

The frustrating thing with him is that he has the raw materials to be an outstanding player. Too often though he was involved in bad mistakes. As a defender you don’t want to be around goals being conceded – he was.

Which is correct but the biggest impact on his career has been his last four meetings with Didier Drogba where he was bullied to the extent that it had a detrimental effect on his confidence. During 2006-07 and the following season, it was sometimes hard to reconcile his performances with those in the preceding European campaign. It was definitely a case of one step forward, half-a-dozen sideways and three back for Senderos. Problematically for Senderos, I do not believe he will be given a fair chance by a section of the support, every mistake seized upon, every positive ignored.

He may have got that out of his game, but if he’s not given the chance at Arsenal I still think he has a big career ahead of him.

It seems that Senderos is on his way, in media speak at least. It would be surprising if he remained at the club given that Milan had the option to buy him at the end of his loan deal. Who knows, maybe he has improved but with, at a guess, four centre backs ahead of him, his playing time would appear to be limited to the Carling Cup and minor roles covering injuries, etc.

Keown was exceptionally positive about Jack Wilshere:

Wilshire is the one that stands out. He’s got an incredible radar for passing and even when he shifted into a more central position there was only one winner. He’s the obvious player to pick but I think the whole Academy is benefitting from the simulation of tactics from the first team downwards.

A weight of expectation is building around Wilshere that I hope does not get out of hand. When talking of him, some seem to believe he will emulate Cesc in the impact he has on the first team. That is a lot to ask and there is no doubt that he is an exceptional talent. What he needs though is to be brought through almost quietly to allow him to develop without pressure. Having made a handful of appearances last season, it would I think be a major surprise if he does not star in the Carling Cup next time around.

Keown gave credit where it is due:

Great credit must be paid to the staff Steve Bould and reserve team coach Neil Banfield. There was a time when Don Howe was there that the first team’s work was very different to that of the youth sides. Don obviously had established ideas having been in the game for a long time, but that changed under Wenger.

To a certain extent there is a philosophy now that what the first team does in training is replicated by the reserves and then the youth sides. It means that whenever a player takes a step up, he’s in harmony with the passing drills.

That is the core to Wenger’s eventual legacy at the club. The structure is in place for his successors to build upon and the staff know what is expected. The youth policy at Ajax that brought them success down the decades had this philosophy and the coaches at Arsenal now enforce that policy. A good sign for the present and the future.

  1. Woo-hoo. First again.

On the subject of the horses, the first race at Windsor last night had SuperFrank running, the jockey’s silks replicating the traditional home kit with a red body and white sleeves.

An omen, I thought and swiftly put some cash on it.

    It’s still running…

    YW

  2. Compared to a modest fellow like Ashley Cole, I suppose anyone would seem arrogant.

  3. With Jack Wilshire, I think there are similarities to Joe Cole. Both positionally, physically and the expectations. Perhaps Joe Cole has not become as great a player as he thought he would. However, he’s not bad. If our expectations on Jack are pitched at that level, then anything else will be a bonus for us. On Senderos, I think there is so much good will all round, for him to eventually come good. Certainly on this blog, and (I suspect) around the stadium, too. I would love to see him come back and be a revelation.

“Academies are working very well in England and we can see the results,” he said. “I’m very lucky, because I’ve had the opportunity to look at Arsenal’s academy where the England team train and their work is incredibly good.” from fabio capello.

positive news that wont get a headline in the newspapers, instead get ready for more cesc to barca, ade to milan, and toure to man city.

and after all the flak wenger gets for ruining english international football, you might understand why they dont want to analyse capello’s comments further.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jul/06/fabio-capello-england-confidence – It barely mentioned in the guardian buried right at the bottom of the page.

http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/22822/Capello_lauds_Arsenal_example.aspx – leads with the story.

posted that yesterday – considering the FA were planning to spending 350 mill on burton project(all gone suspiciously quiet),

considering england U21 were widely believed to be inferiour in terms of technique(and brooking even admitted that to the press) to other teams in the U21euro-championships,

condidering the lack of talent comming through from other clubs,

considering the amount of ex arsenal youth making a living in the top of english game, the fact NO paper is willing to analyse this and hardly any even picking up on capello comments, leads me to think the press has their own agenda on this

  5. “Who knows, maybe he has improved but with, at a guess, four centre backs ahead of him, his playing time would appear to be limited to the Carling Cup and minor roles covering injuries, etc.”

I cannot agree with that. Maybe he would be fifth in line for a chance, but rankings are not fixed at the start of the season. If he can demonstrate that he deserves games in the first team, he will get them.

  6. I would feel so proud of swiss tony if he does decide to give it another go with us, it will show extreme mental strength. I dont think it depends if Wenger wants him back, his faith in Senderos was there before and i doubt that has changed, i reckon its all down to whether Senderos wants it or not.

With Senderos back we will have:

    Gallas
    Toure
    Djourou
    Vermaelen
    Senderos
    Silvestre
    Song

7 Available CB’s, obviously Song may be depolyed mainly as a DM where he has grown in stature. So 6 players for 2 places…. Toure, leaving for ACN… leaves 5 options.

Seems overcroweded and unlikely that Senderos will return unless someone is on their way out. We will have to wait and see…

  7. Pz

No they are not fixed but if others are picked ahead of him at the start of the season, unless something happens to their form, why would Wenger drop them from the starting XI or the matchday squad?

    YW

  8. I agree Poliziano. And with Kolo out during the African Cup of Nations. I don’t know what it is about Philippe! Perhaps it’s his earnest, good intentions, his furrowed brow and clenched fist, his multi-lingual abilities, his heart-felt paternal attitude to those around him, his apparent love for Arsenal, his strength, his mistakes.

  9. Maybe Big Phil ought to take note of this from yesterday’s Fiver:

Miffed Atletico Junior midfielder Javier Florez isn’t one for taking criticism lightly. Days after being called “lousy” by fan Israel Castillo during his team’s Apertura Championship final defeat to Once Caldas, he went round to Castillo’s house and shot him dead, according to police in Colombia

Might work on a few supporters that I can think of…

    YW

  10. I think I’ll do a brochure on him.

  11. You make him sound like a young Tony Adams, Mingus. Apart from the multi-lingual abilities of course.

  12. True! And as was discussed here recently, perhaps defenders in the style of TA are out-moded. Which would not be good news for poor Philippe!

  13. YW @ 11:16 am – H’mmm. They had better keep Ade away from the gun store.

  14. @Mingus,

i think its the furrowed brow. It just shows TOTAL concentration. He would die in that shirt. He gives 200%.

Me thinks he is the ugly duckling. If there was a vote, I would say we wait till the swan appears. Center backs can take long to totaly cultivate their game. If he doesnt mind part bit roles, he should stay.

But knowing arsenal and it’s constant injuries, trust me, he will be playing as a lead striker come September when the whole front line is in the injury room.

  15. You would think that 7 players for the 2 CB spots is overcrowded to start the season, even in January we would still have 5 left from the ANC. Especially as Silvestre said he moved to us to get more playing time – surely that aint gonna happen again.

If it were me and someone had to go Silvestre would be last in first out. He will be gone a the end of this season for sure when his contract is done, so why lose a prospect to keep him?

If Wenger is serious about rotating players, you need horses for courses. Toure gallas would be good at home, small and quick. Senderos Djourou would be better at bolton, blackburn or any other club that caught the sam allardyce disease and thought it would make them england manager.

  16. I think that the problem for young CB’s like Senderos and Djourou is the lack of time for them to mature in the premiership. With so much expectation on sucess in the league and the CL, any mistake made is now magnified, by the media and fans alike. If you look at some of the mistakes Tony Adam’s made at times as a youngster, they would receive far harsher criticism now as they would have done then. He was abe to mature into one of the finest CB’s of all time, by the time he was in his late 20s. It’s a shame players don’t have as much oportunity to do so now.

  17. Though I still think if Senderos stays, Then one of Sylvestre or Kolo would have to go. But in that Gallas’ and Sylvestre’s contracts will be expiring in a year, me thinks he should stay. time is on his side as a CB

He should stay, keep under the radar and work on his game. in a years time he will have Drogba in his pocket.

All he needs is a blitz of a game in which he shuts Drogba totaly out, and VOILA we have the Sendero’s of the Champions League run.

As a side point, why did Arsene Buy Gallas and drop him after that CL run? Did the boy some damage in his confidence!

  18. CBs are all about experience, if we can keep our youngsters, keep them happy, keep their confidence intact, and give them as much experience as possible they will age and become amazing CBs for our club. Senderos and Djourou have everything that is required to become great CB’s, only thing they need is time to do so. Patience is very thin in football, we can big a player up as quick as we can get rid of one.

  19. Senderos got done by drogba at a time when he was turning over most defenders. He did the same thing to kolo and billy the season before last at their place. Senderos is also excellent in the air, which is something we could use, especially late in games away.

  20. Chris..

U should count properly.. We will have 6 CB’s..

Dont see Sylvester being either center or back..

  21. arsenalkabisa

It wasnt as simple as bringing Gallas in and dropping Senderos. That season he was making the same errors in the league, but the champions league is a different ball game. The high tempo of the Premiership was catching big Phil out, Gallas came in and relieved him of that pressure of playing week in week out with all the fans on his case. His confidence may have dropped while having less playing time but Wenger knew the longer he left him in the deep end he will soon drown.

After taking a backup role to Gallas and Toure he worked his way back in the team where Djourou was left to go on loan, Toure went ACN and Sende came in and done an amazing job. It wasnt untill the really high pressure games where Senderos got caught out, his partnership with Gallas before was good, but his high profile errors were a major part in our teams elimination from the champs league, and costing us some league points.

Every Arsenal fan feels for him, because he has shown he can be a great player and he wasnt played with desire and his heart. There was many games where he would completely dominate some strikers and not give them a sniff. His physical presence overwhelmed in some games, but in others his lack of speed an positionaly ecperience proved costly.

  22. bops

    You are so funny

  23. Logic says keep Senderos, and challenge him to fight and get into the first team like everyone else.

Plus he gets along well with Cesc (in case Barca starts thinking of Silly DNA’s), knows a thing or two in relation to the Italian way of defending, is the only player i actively see organizing the defense and yelling to others, is as big as a horse compact as a brick, attacks high balls, has furrowed brows,

if only he would get rid of the nerves in his game, reassure other team members to trus him more, then you would get the first all Swiss pairing in Arsenal — for years to come.

  24. Did anyone see the Martin Keown interview? Is there a transcript from the original source? There is something about it that just doesn’t ring true.

  25. I remember reading somewhere that Wenger considered making Senderos captain when Henry left. Surprising seeing he was more back up to Toure and Gallas at the time, but indicates that Wenger had a lot of faith in him.

I think it was Senderos’ reaction to his mistakes at Anfield in the Champs League QF that was the final straw just as much as the mistakes themselves. I think the story was that he called his parents from the dressing room in tears.

I would love Senderos to come back to Arsenal with renewed confidence, as I don’t see too many centre halves out there that are any better.

  26. “Every Arsenal fan feels for him, because he has shown he can be a great player and he wasn’t played with desire and his heart. There was many games where he would completely dominate some strikers and not give them a sniff. His physical presence overwhelmed in some games, but in others his lack of speed an positional experience proved costly. ”

He reminds me of Brazil’s Lucio, not the fastest CB, but the team covers for him, Maybe his CB pair should cover for his lack of speed. I think his positional sense is at par with Djourou. hence his high ball winning antics.

He should work on his confidence, pick his big frame from the ground after an own goal, and score two screamer headers on the other end.

Ey, but me hears he was in tears after the Liverpool CL exit. But who of us wasn’t?

  27. Senderos staying?

    Not a chance guys.

The club have put him out on loan with an option to be bought – therefore the clubs intention is crystal clear for all to see. The option was turned down by Milan.

Phil is a very talented and promising player who ultimately has not made it at Arsenal – with even tears being shed after the liverpool CL game if we’re led to believe some accounts.

If Wenger brings him back now, every mistake he makes will be scrutinised to a chorus of “What was Wenger thinking bringing this guy back” doing harm to both player and club.

Its best for both the club and the player if he moves on and gets the opportunity to make the most of his talent with a career at a club that will give him an even chance.

Its patently clear he won’t be at AFC next season. The player himself asked to stay at Milan until Milan rejected him. There are apparently a number of other clubs interested in him – so he’ll go elsewhere. Its just a matter of time and debate to the contrary is just futile IMO.

  28. It was apparently an ‘exclusive’ with sport.co.uk

  29. People remember Sendero’s error, but Kolo too brought that Liverpool wanker down, when Gallas had his path of flight Covered. That, costed us the game, and not Sendero’s Marking… ()

  30. @frank No one seems to have the transcript to the “exclusive.”..

  31. You are futile as well, Joe, but you still exist.

  32. @joe

I think Wenger was crafty in loaning him to AC.

Why not just sell him if the he wanted to get rid of him? And why to AC. if Wenger wanted to get rid of him, the he would have done so long ago.

But me needs to find out who has reported for pre-season. Does anyone have the list of names?? is certain a Mr. Senderos, a certain Monsieur Ade, Sylvestre Edu there?

  33. All CB’s make mistakes, its how they deal with them and how often they make them which counts. He has years ahead of him, where ever he ends up i wish him the best. If he ends up staying which i know is unlikely i will still support the guy.

  34. Chris..

Too much work does that to you..

  35. It is a bit strange, a loan deal then option to buy… could be Wenger’s craft – i agree with you ‘arsenalkabisa’

Make them believe we dont want him, tell them “loan him for a year, if you like what you see take him” … when really Wenger didnt want to let go of him that easy and has hoped deep down Senderos comes back wanting to start again? Its possible

  36. I believe that most of the squad will not at pre-season training until 13th July. Apart from those who did not go away, which includes Abou and Tomas.

  37. Eusebio was an outstanding player.

  38. Thanks for the link Frank – a good read. Mr Keown seems an eloquent chap.

  39. CG

I will support the guy too, even if he doesn’t stay with us. I would really like to see him do well – because he appears to be a very good bloke and has given his best to AFC. The reality of the situation is simply that not every player makes it. Remember the standard to play in the first team is very very high.

Kabisa : I think Wenger generally gives players every chance to come good and I do think that he’s given Sendy every chance too but somewhere along the line, Sendy has passed a certain point. Sending a young player to get experience like traore to pompey or Bendtner to Brum is much different to sending an established player out on loan to a club like Milan with an option to buy.

I just think its pretty clear cut.

  40. Perhaps Phillipe Senderos asked to leave Arsenal before the deal with AC Milan. The buy back clause implies that AW did not really want him to go. His confidence was low just before he left, and if he has watched the games over this last season he will not relish returning to play in front of our home supporters.

  41. It was a bit strange seeing Eusebio and di Stefano on stage with Cronaldo last night. It threw Cronaldo’s stature – and the fee Real paid for him – into relief. If that makes sense.

  42. Eusebio is very relevant to the never ending ‘discussions’ about defensive midfield players. In 1966, Nobby Styles was delegated to be his marker. Nobby ‘s job was to kick lumps off Eusebio if he could not win the ball fairly. Nobby set the pattern for defensive midfield players and only one or two English clubs have bucked the trend since…..Arsenal is one of them.

  43. Now of course Eusebio is Mozambique’s biggest football export which is relevant to the discussion yesterday. Much to the chagrin of Arsenalkabisa.

  44. Joe

Maybe you are right, i cant see him coming back but you can never rule anything out in football. Now Milan dont really want to buy him how does that fair on his confidence where ever he may end up?

He couldnt make it at Arsenal, his loan move to Milan doesnt seem to have warranted him a deal… his confidence must have took another hit in my view.

  45. Knobby style players are not in favour at Arsenal.

  46. @joe.

For a CB, Senderos is “young” CB’s and goal Keepers rarely age at 30. me thinks of a certain Mr, Puyol, A certain Mr. Cannavaro, a certain Mr. maldini and to some extent a certain mr. Gallas.

After next season, Then Sendero’s time will start to wear thin.

How would you explain the buy back clause then?

  47. @frank

I wasn’t disputing what you said. I wasn’t supporting nor defending Yoda either. All I was saying is this aynt the forum to tear into other Arsenal fans.

If it makes you feel good>> then you win mister :)

  48. Sorry, YW, I did not see your comment. It appeared on the previous days board.

    ‘Frank

What did not ring true about it? You can see by his comments that the interview happened last week since he talks of the Board meeting last Friday.

It was nice to see a former player talking sense about the club than the usual tosh that Wright comes out with, for example.

    YW’

I like Martin Keown, YW, although it seems a little out of character to talk of one particular player i.e. Phil Senderos in those terms. It was undertstated but it was quite derogatory. Also having read the sport.co.uk interview his comments on the share issue seemed a little naive.

But I agree with you it is refreshing to hear from an ex player who seems to still have respect for the current manager and squad, and I am probably being unduly critical.

  49. I could not agree with you less, Arsenalkabisa

  50. Joe

It seems illogical to assume that the club would have tried to loan out Senderos this time last year….he was an integral member of the squad….Wenger viewed him as a valuable deputy….Far more logical to assume that Senderos asked for the move himself…..the details of the move to Milan only being finalised late in the transfer window….leaving Wenger little time to manoeuvre, but still managing to get an experienced Silvestre…..a clever acquisition given the time restraint….As soon as this transfer window opened Wenger was able to restore the balence and bought Vermaelen.

  51. I remember Tony Adams being followed everywhere with ‘eer oor’ jibes for a long time at the start of his career. Remember the pictures, probably the Sun. with donkey’s ears superimposed on his head?

    He was given time.

  52. I remember it well, CB

  53. And AC have gone ahead to sign USA’s Uguchi Unyewu who stared in the CONFED

“Onyewu, who had a loan spell at Newcastle in 2007, has signed a three-year deal with the Italian giants after leaving Standard Liege.

The 27-year-old was linked with a host of English clubs earlier this summer, but Milan have moved to lure him to the San Siro.

Onyewu impressed during the recent Confederations Cup helping the USA reach the final and Milan have decided to bring him in to bolster their defensive options.

A statement on Milan’s official website read: “AC Milan would like to inform that they have signed Oguchi Onyewu on a permanent basis from Standard Liege.

“The USA international has signed until June 30, 2012.”

  54. Frank,
    Good Afternoon.

did you attend any of the 1966 World Cup matches. If you did,as you seem to have a remarkable memory of days far gone by,wasn’t jimmy greaves initially dropped for the first few games because he had or was injured but was fighting fit for the final, but Alf Ramsey(as he was known then) opted to keep Roger Hunt in the team.

  55. Equine players can be excellent. Ruud van Nistelrooy was typically depicted as a member of the horse family, but is a top striker.

  56. Wasn’t it Geoff Hurst who was preferred to Greaves?

  57. Partially correct kelsey. It was of course, Geoff Hurst that Ramsey kept in the side at the expense of Greaves.

    What is your point?

  58. Indeed. PZ.

  59. Jimmy Greaves was indeed fit for the final, kelsey. Even though he was a spud I remember being upset that he was not picked because I thought that he was England’s best chance of beating West Germany. I did not attend any of the World Cup games. I was a passive England supporter at that time, but had any lingering interest in them drummed out of me by years of torturous mediocrity suffused with utter migraine stimulating inanity from the country’s ‘fans’.

  60. At this point in time from a ‘footballistic’ viewpoint I fucking hate England or anything to do with the English football establishment. Jack Wilshere and his Arsenal contemporaries may just have the power to change that position in years hence, at least temporarily.

  61. The reason I asked was the name Eusebio was mentioned a few posts back, and that reminded me of the Finals.

I saw Greaves play a number of times, and though the connection might not seem obvious I see a lot of him in Eduardo’s play.

  62. Eusebio was the star in that competiton

  63. 1 ST: – - – - – Walcott/Eduardo/Vela/Ade – - -

    2 AM: – - – - Arshavin – - – - – RvP – - – - – - -

    3 CMs: Denilson/Cesc/Diaby/Nasri/Rosicky/Song

If we are to be using a 4-3-3 i think we could shape up something like this in certain games. The creativeness and killer instincts of AA and RvP behind and feeding a quick striker like Walcott/Vela or even a predator like Edu is an option Wenger might look at.

Ade would thrive off the supply from these 2 also.

Then you have the deeper 3 CMs = their job is to create a 3 man wall when defending that covers across the pitch and provides support to the full backs. Going forward we all know each of them can give us quick intricate passing, and supply RvP and AA with the ball. The likes of Nasri and Cesc will be able to make runs forward from these positions where they will be very difficult for the opposition to keep track of as they can all interchange. Song could be the more central deeper lying CM and even Diaby would prefer to be in a midfield 3 rather than 1 of 2 CMs.

Ok Ok im just getting a bit too much into this and Wenger will probably have his own ideas. Point being we have the players to switch into different formations.

Vela/Walcott/AA/Nasri/Rosicky can also play wide in a midfield 4 or 5. Just very excited to see how we lineup in 5 weeks!!

  64. Forgive me. I just made a comment on Le-Grove for the first time. What can I do to rid me of this bad act?

  65. @ ChrisGoona: I think people are getting carried away with 4-3-3. If anything people are not getting too much into it.

  66. I see Arseblog has interviewed Ivan Gazidis. Good stuff but nothing more than he has said before.

Who do you fancy interviewing, YW? I reckon you should go for Boro Primorac.

  67. 1 loose cannon

Arshavin’s former agent still talking about Barcelona. I thought he got the sack from Arshavin how come he is still opening his filthy mouth?

  68. Don’t punish yourself, Brain. People here are very tolerant and besides bloggers should comment wherever they wish.

You fucking weakling, what the fuck is wrong with you man. Pull yourself together.

  69. I apologise for going off topic, but I wondered what people thought about this statement:

“In an hour or so arseblog will publish an exclusive interview with the club’s new CEO, Ivan Gazidis. Credit to Gazidis: he’s one of the first people on the club’s payroll to acknowledge that an audience exists outside of the official site. Hopefully this is the start of more congenial relations between the club and the huge online community that surrounds it.”

It’s quite a coup for arseblog but it’s the bit in bold that sounds odd to me. It’s not as if the official site is only available to subscribers or something! Seems symptomatic of the general distrust of, and distaste for, officialdom or authority.

  70. Yeah just read the interview Frank. No shocking reveals or anything, as you would expect, but interesting to hear (read) his thoughts none the less. So far his arrival seems to have had a positive affect on the clubs transfer and contract negotiations, which is good of course.

  71. I agree with you FG. The club might be somewhat disillusioned after a week of scouring the comments sections on certain Arsenal blogsites.

  72. I agree with that Jer.

  73. Fungunner – well I believe arseblog and I’m sure other blogs and sites have asked for interviews with staff at the club before without much success.

I think its good, the more interviews like this the better. Would the official site have asked this question?

” All the same I know my readers would not forgive me if I didn’t ask. Now, you can tell me, or not tell me, and I think I know which one you’ll go with, can you hint at whether we going to see more players arrive and if so are those arrivals dependent on other players leaving to raise funds?!”

  74. @Jer
I have no doubt at all they would have asked that sort of question. The whole “Arsenal have a £70-million transfer fund” misunderstanding of two seasons ago arose directly out of questions Keith Edelman was asked in an Arsenal online interview about how much profit the club had made and how much AW had to spend.

  75. Well that is the sort of question AW gets asked by the press and media, Jer. I don’t think that bloggers are necessarily any better than tabloids when it comes to rperesenting answers. In fact several Arsenal bloggers are a damn sight worse than the worst tabloids.

  76. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/training

    here we go, Arsenal kabisa.

Interesting that Phil Senderos gets a mention too.

  77. He’s a top bloke, that Ivan Gazidis, I agree. It was one of the first things he said – can’t remember the exact words – that the club had to reconnect with the fans.

    @ Jer
The original comment seemed to imply that fans had no access to the club’s website. Just seemed odd to me.

It’s not about “believing” Arseblog or not – that you say that is in itself is an example of fans’ faith transferring from the club to the satellite sites – possibly again because of an innate distrust. I’m not necessarily talking about you now, but generally, people will virtually swear fealty to, and believe implicitly in the opinions of a blogger they like without knowing the first thing about him/her or how good their information is. It’s not just in football, it’s universal. Weird. And dangerous, methinks.

  78. That’s quite a coup for Arseblog. Gazadis is trying to play the PR game and get the arsenal fans on the club’s side.

Regarding some Arsenal bloggers being worse than tabloids. I wonder what these bloggers motives are? Do they feel they have a differentiated and better opinion than others? Do they want acknowledgement/clicks. ad money or do they enjoy writing? Are they the future of journalism especially if they want to get into the industry later.

  79. Frank – Well I’m just comparing a blogger to the official site here, obviously the press would ask any question under the sun.

But its not so much the type of questions that get asked. The main thing is that it implies more trust and a greater communication between the official channels and fan run websites. Which cant be a bad thing.

These are the places I go for Arsenal news, ACLF, arseblog, etc. Not the daily rags.

  80. BTW, the arsenal training t-shirt looks great.

  81. @Jer
“Well I’m just comparing a blogger to the official site here, obviously the press would ask any question under the sun.”

Did you see my comment? Keith Edelman was asked about transfer funds by the official website – that’s how the whole story started.

  82. I have been an Arsenal fan since I could first kick a ball, my whole world revolves around Arsenal, my parents weren’t Gooners, I made that decision myself, let no one tell me I don’t love this club with every sinew in my body.

There are people out there that don’t speculate, how boring, what do they do when they start their day…

PS: I am looking to pass on my season’s ticket and some of my friend’s as well. I love the club. I really and truly do.

  83. Fungunner – I don’t think its that most fans dont trust the official site, more they believe that what they read there will probably have a positive slant and be more sugar coated sometimes. Probably with good reason.

You’re right though, there are those who only believe certain bloggers opinions and don’t believe a word that comes out of arsenal, and they are idiots of course. It should be obvious which sites can and cant be trusted to tell the truth. With all blogs there comes opinion as well as facts, but any reasonable person knows the difference

  84. Good to see Rosicky in training.

  85. Fungunner – The problem with that question and answer is that it was misinterpreted by people outside the official site

  86. @Jer
Yes, that’s why I called the story a “misunderstanding” – I was just pointing out that the question was originally asked by the official website, showing that they, and not just outside media, DO ask that type of question.

  87. Jer – fair point in your comment at 2:29pm, btw.

  88. @Frank Bless you.

Me thinks that you can now talk about the Cameroonian, Egyptian, Ghanaian or whatever Leaugue you wants to

    : :) :) :) :)

  89. Yes, Steve, I agree. I noticed Henri Lansbury and M. Coquelin in there too. I still think that Henri will turn out to be our RB, but people who know a lot more than me disagree with me.

  90. Senderos was on at least one of the photos. He’s definitely there!

  91. Both Coquelin and Lanbury have played RB for the reserves in the last season. So both are very good choices for midfield and RB.

  92. M. Wenger doesn’t seem to be enjoying the weather.

  93. I agree with FG. The club will give out certain information, and the club are in total control of that process. It is not simply a matter of finding the right question to trap them, and it doesn’t matter who asks the question. The club will answer what it wants to answer no more and no less. If a hack or a bloghack or a man in the street fails to answer the question they wanted to answer, they will ask it themselves and answer it themselves…

  94. Is it only me or does Vermeelen look taller than Sylvestre…

i wonder what the 5’13′ debate was all about…

  95. Great to see those photos. Nearly football time again. Fantastic.

  96. @Pz
Yes, I noticed that slightly rueful look into the camera as well! Bit of a wry twinkle in there as well, though.

I think he should be ashamed of himself, training on his own. Is he trying to claim that he can’t keep up with guys 35 years younger than he is? Tsk, tsk!

  97. He was in front, FG, just lapped them.

  98. lol, Frank

    Yes, that must be it!

  99. @Pz & Frank

in slide 3 he is taking a short cut… me thinks that’s how he ended up to be in front.. LOL

  100. They probably get fined if they overtake him.

  101. I see Tomas is making use of one of the new urine balls so as not to interrupt the training session. William has been given the job of emptying the full ones…probably for overtaking AW.

  102. The Africans are not there; so too are the South Americans.

  103. Bit of a paunch on Eddy. On holiday with Ponyboy maybe.

  104. The Gallas picture comes before the Rosicky one. That suggests that someone forgot to empty the ball at the end of last season. No wonder Gallas is holding it at arms length!

  105. I never knew one could have a paunch on only a single side of one’s body.

  106. arsenehollis

Does anyone know if the Barnet game will be on TV please?

  107. What is the point of these umm….Balls…that weigh 8kg?

No jokes. Only serious responses are welcomed.

    Watch it Pz.

  108. A versatile item of exercise equipment, Ateeb.

  109. What muscles does it target?

  110. It’s versatile, Ateeb. With ingenuity, it can be used to exercise most muscle groups.

  111. Upper body mainly.

  112. @ arsenehollis

I’m pretty sure it will be on ATV. They promise to show all pre-season games, so… Fingers crossed.

Great to see Rosicky in training. According to him he feels more fit than when he joined us. Cesc still seems to be on holiday. Spoiled brat.

  122. ughhhh…..the disease has returned. Delayed posts. We need to find a permanent cure for this Yogi. It seems the last option we talked about could be the only way. But I dread to go down that road. It will be very painful, and there are no gurantees that it would work.

  123. Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Major and Minor, Triceps Brachii, Anconeus, Supinator, Latissimus Dorsi, Ateeb

  124. @ arsenehollis,

I’ve just checked and ATV aim to cover most pre-season games. But I would still expect them to be at Barnet.

  125. Rectus abdominis.

  126. Keep those muscle groups coming, Frank. It’s like being at a bodybuilders’ convention. Or a gay bar. Not sure which.

  127. Arsus major and minor, Sixus packus

  128. Don’t be deceived, FunGunner. The rectus abdominis are on the front of one’s body. Nothing to do with the rectum at all.

  139. shotta-gunna

Frank – I see you are in good form today. LOL.

    Remember to lighten-up, lighten up!

  140. I know, Pz (rectus not rectum) – but in any case, I was talking to Frank – hadn’t seen your contribution when I posted!

  141. The Brain,

The fact that this news comes from you makes it serious. Is your source a club insider?

  142. Gallus plumpus

  143. Beg your pardon – Eduardo rotundo

  144. I think Eduardo just has something under his shirt.

  145. Actually do you think Eduardo has been drinking pints this summer?

  146. Well yes… a beergut as I think FG was implying.

  147. I think Eduardo just has something under his shirt.

    Could it be Blaise Matuidi?

  148. I don’t think it is a beer gut. As I mentioned earlier, the left side of his abdomen looks flat, and his pectorals are well defined through his shirt.

  149. Best Bitter if Ponyboy was guilty.

  150. Perhaps, FunGunner, although he’s more likely to be up Wenger’s sleeve.

  151. I don’t think it is a beer gut. As I mentioned earlier, the left side of his abdomen looks flat, and his pectorals are well defined through his shirt.

well, nobody could accuse you of not having researched the matter thoroughly.

  152. Ah, but Wenger’s sleeve is the old hiding place. All the kids are wise to that one now.

  153. If you get a fishbone stuck in your throat, St Blaise is the chap to sort it out for you. He is also the patron saint of throat infections…for fucks sake no wonder human beings are in such a bloody mess.

  154. What the blaises!

  155. Exactly, PZ, they killed him with combs you now.

  156. Combed him to death.

  157. Alex: No it’s not an insider. A source but definitely not insider which I should have made clear. They’re probably trying to put two and two together but he was in London and Arsene did want to finish his transfer dealings before pre-season started.

  158. In Turkey as we now know it, this poor guy was combed to death. A democratic society, 10% of the voters wanted to tickle him to death, 35% wanted to flick him incessantly until he died, but as most of the electorate had attended hairdressing courses a massive 55% voted to comb him to death.

  159. …and amazingly Blaise just before he died saw a wolf mauling a pig, told it to stop it, which it did, in a flagrant attempt to win the animal rights lobby from St Francis of Assissi.

  160. Matuidi said a few days ago that he wanted to leave St. Etienne. Arsenal and Everton were reported to have been interested in him at one time.

  161. Apparently they have it at the bottom of Sky Sports news and also that we are in talks/to open talks with Melo. Something like that. Haven’t yet seen it. Maybe someone can confirm it.

I wouldn’t be disappointed although Denilson has been very good and still feel Diaby has much to offer too.

  162. Revenge of the Hairdressers, eh? Perhaps young Blaise had refused to join in the chitchat about sunbeds and where he was going on holiday.

  163. I will be very disappointed if Diaby and/or Denilson are replaced.

  164. I think the rot started when he refused to by any hair products, FG.

  165. that will be ‘buy’ any hair products I guess although if we were texting that would be perfectly acceptable

  166. If there is any truth to the rumour that Matuidi is joining Arsenal, I would take that as a sign that Wenger has given up on signing Melo – if indeed he ever wanted to sign him.

  167. They never call them “hair products”, though, do they? It’s all just called “product”. Perhaps that was Blaise’s mistake. People can be very stuffy about using exact terminology…that doesn’t apply to texters, obviously.

..amazingly Blaise just before he died saw a wolf mauling a pig, told it to stop it, which it did, in a flagrant attempt to win the animal rights lobby from St Francis of Assissi.

He should have got in earlier, shouldn’t he? Poor bloke dies in agony, gets recognised as a martyr and then finds that all that’s left in the badge bucket is “patron saint of throat infections”. Makes you wonder what the other choices were.

  168. The pictures of the “return to training” are not great quality but I can’t see Eboue, Adebayor or Toure, but none of them are mentioned in the “not yet returned” list. I know I sound like some made conspiracy nut, but you’s have thought they would be in one of them? Trips to Italy or Manchester maybe?

  169. .

  170. Excellent, FG

  171. I would be very surprised if arse worms weren’t still in the bucket.

  172. hair today gone tomorrow

  173. combed to death is a hairy business indeed

  174. I wonder if he had many knots from not using the right “product”

  175. There are at least 26 players visible on one of the photos. It’s impossible to tell who they are, but about 10 of them are not shown on any other photograph.

  176. was a case of speak no evil, see no evil, hair evil

  177. I’m taking a short break

  178. was it a religious matter, hairy krishna and all that

  179. A race perhaps and the tortoise won

  180. OK, break finished …

    Later

ZimPaul (king of the BAD joke)

  181. I think the arse worms are still languishing in the bottom (ooh missus) of the bucket. With or without mescaline, who’d pick them?
You’d rather Patron Saint of To Be Announced, wouldn’t you?

  182. Arsenal Insider

    Cana….

  183. I know it is impossible to pick out individual players in the group photo, as they are taken from so far away, but it is possible to make out how many black players there are, and then pick out individuals in the close ups. I count 7 black players in the group shot, and can pick out Gallas, Traore, Djourou and Silvestre, Diaby (based on height) and I think a couple of reserves.

  184. Maybe the South American and African players are getting a longer break to be with their families, given that they are a greater distance away – can’t nip over for a daytrip or a weekend so easily, perhaps?

  185. Didn’t they have quite a tough WC qualifying schedule after the season ended?

  186. Arsenal Insider

Only arsenal highlights seemed to have picked up on the matuidi story.

Same site that was claiming that Melo will be joining soon. Adebayor has been offered to Inter and Milan (again).

  187. Kind of:

    -

    “Later

ZimPaul (king of the BAD joke)”

I would challenge you for that title, ZP, but I’d rather not incur Dorothy Parker’s wrath again.

  188. I haven’t seen Song or Denilson either, so I think FunGunner’s theory is correct.

  189. Zimpaul, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

  190. So, it looks like Obertan is going to join Valencia and Owen. Is SAF doing this on purpose?

  191. I know, I know
    (head hung in shameful pose)
I blame Jon Jon. He bored me to idiocy. Just skimming past his many, many … many posts was enough to reduce to me to this state. I am suffering from trollus tedious. Why has he not featured in Private Eye’s ‘Great Bores of Today’?

  192. Dorothy Parker you say …

    THE Dorothy Parker?

Used to play left back for Spuds 82/83? Nasty tackle left him an octave higher of voice?

  193. Owen is a ManU type purchase and player.

  194. JonJon’s posts were hard-work. I agree with Alex, it was headache-inducing.

What do you reckon about this, ZP:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/jul/07/louise-taylor-south-africa-2010-world-cup

    Is it fair?

  195. OOU,

Ferguson would’nt admit that he is facing budget constraints but the change in his strategy seems too dramatic to believe otherwise. At the moment one cant see him reinvesting the 80 million he got for Ronaldo back in the squad.

  196. Sorry, that’s “hard work”.

  197. Agree, Alex. You can’t help but conclude that he’s strapped for cash, because at this stage he has nearly rebuilt his team with these mediocre players.

What do you think this means for the league next season – who’s going to be vying for the runner-up spots?

  198. Zimpaul/ OOU,

I was on the verge of resorting to Prozac before Ateeb and Shotta intervened on behalf of humanity and saved us from the daily torture we were being subjected to.

  199. LOL. It was a kind of a relentless, crushing silliness.

  200. One of Us … yep, it’s pretty fair, sorry to say. They might pull out all the stops and stop most of the crime, but as of now visitors are sitting ducks. There is nothing to fully describe both the cruelty and sheer scale of crime in South Africa. 300 years of social engineering under Afrikaaners will do that I suppose. Like Brazil it has a huge and unsustainable gap between leafy suburbs and grotesque ghettoes. A little cynically perhaps but in many ways South Africa does not regard itself as fully part of Africa, and the same applies in reverse. It is a complex issue – the most advanced economy in Africa is one of the least advanced countries socially. With apologies to South African friends because they also produce amazing, wonderful iconic people – like Mandela.

  201. OOU,

Though it would be premature to write off the Mancs at this stage, unless they get some seriously good midfielder/s its tough to see them successfully defending their league title.

Liverpool remain highly dependant on the combination of Torres & Gerrard for their goals and an injury to either both of them could derail their title challenge in my opinion. Chelsea to me seem the strongest of the other three currently because of their relentless physical attributes and ability to grind out results against mid table and other clubs.

I believe that we will challenge strongly for the league this time around. We now seem to have good quality all around and sufficient strength in depth assuming that there are no major changes in our squad.

  202. I should say ‘innocent visitors’ because those who travel there regularly, like me, are looking behind our shoulders suspiciously, always alert. In the road I usually stay in (middle class suburb) every house has been robbed within 2 years, many at gunpoint. I would like to believe measures will be put in place to protect visitors, but it will be hard.

  203. I would love it if Senderos stayed, I have always thought he has the qualities to be a top CB and is probably the only old school stryle CB we have (although Vermeallen is apprantly similar too)

However, it is prbably a pipe dream, given Wenger’s and Phil’s comments… Then again, he is back i training, so…

BTW, Rosicky looked absolutely f**ked in the Arsenal.com fotos today!

    Bless him

  204. In what way did Rosicky look f*****?

  205. Sorry for the delay Alex + ZP, your responses have coincided with dinner! Will try to pick up the thread later…

  206. He looked cream crackered!

Or do you wanna try and make something out of that comment too?

  207. Matuidi was in pre-season yesterday so he can’t have been in London. Sorry for that one although I was told by “source”. There’s no trusting anyone and I don’t usually pay attention to them so enough of rumours We may still be interested although Melo seems the firmer option.

  208. Well, I really thought the melo story was just that, but it seems to have a bit more substance. As for matuidi, Sky Sports news and the appaling Talkshite radio are both stating he was in London last night and met Wenger and Ivan…. So, that means its bullshite then…

  209. “do you wanna try and make something out of that comment too?”

Are you turning into a mentalist, Spike?

  210. You talkin to me? Are YOU talkin to me???

  211. If the sought after effect is Taxi Driver, the result is curly wig, droopy moustache and scouse accent, Spike.

  212. I heard Wenger went to watch Matuidi in pre-season training.

  213. Try not to be so spiky.

  214. Did RVP sign his contract or not? Any one know? I didn’t see it on Arsenal.com

  215. With modern transport, The Brain, it is possible to travel from St. Etienne to London in a day.

  216. Fank;

Kindly keep your mucho macho gay dreams to yourself, ta.

  217. Who’s Fank, is he a doomer??

  218. Sorry Polizi, its been a bitch of a day, I put the washing out on the line, then the heavens came down, I burnt the casserole and the scatter cushions arrived and they were the wrong hue of dusky pink….

  219. Never ceases to crack me up, the typo joke!

  220. Spike you need to get a woman. or if you have one get her in line.

  221. Get HER in line???

She’d bleedin kill me if she even knew we were talkin bout her like this…

  222. Spike i think you might need some advice off Frank in how to keep your woman in line.

  223. Frank digs chicks?

  224. Not another one talking about digging. I doubt very much that Frank digs anyone.

  225. What does the term mean in your world Polizi?

  226. dig
2  /dɪg/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [dig] Show IPA
–verb (used with object), dug, dig⋅ging. Slang.
    1. to understand: Can you dig what I’m saying?
    2. to take notice of: Dig those shoes he’s wearing.
    3. to like, love, or enjoy: She digs that kind of music. We really dig each other.
    Origin:
1935–40; perh. < Ir (an) dtuig(eann tú mé?) do you understand me? and parallel expressions with tuigim I understand (see twig 2 )
    dig.

  227. shotta-gunna

    Lighten up Spike, lighten up.
Just a bit of advice I got from a tosser yesterday.
I think your heart is in the right place, but…sometimes you get real spiky.

  228. Shotta;

Thanks for that. Yeah, I think it looks a lot spikier in text, when spoken it tends to sound a lot less aggressive…

  229. Like trying to be sarcastic in a text message… its difficult, I have got into a lot of trouble from doin that!

  230. or trying to be patronising in text ,thats when you make someone out to be beneath you Spike.

  231. Digging doesn’t happen in my world, Spike. I’d never heard of it until JonJon mentioned it the other day. I’m not going to say what it means, as it will be offensive to most people.

  232. No patronizing is easy actually.

  233. What happens in your world Poliziano?

  234. Anyone seen the new utd kit? ha ha .it looks like it has an arrow on it pointing in the direction they are heading.

  235. I had to stop what I was doing and come on here and comment.

I have been listening to the comments on here on text to speech (a good way to do the chores I must say) as I usually do when I do not have time to read and I was listening to the muscle groups from Frank and Poliziano and I was in tears of laughter. Literally tears streaming down my face so keep up the good stuff guys.

I don’t even know how bloody far away that was but I had to mention it.

It really is great to see the lads back in training, really makes me excited about the new season. At the end of last season we were without..

    Gallas
    Clichy
    Rosicky
    Eduardo
    Vermaelen (obviously)

Which is just under half a full team. I have no doubt that we will win the league next season if we can avoid ridiculous amounts of injuries to key players.

Which team can match the creative power of Cesc, Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri and Walcott? They will create an insane amounts of chances and if Adebayor stays then he will have a better season than 2007/2008

    COME ON THE MIGHTY ARSENAL!

  236. SSN reported earlier that a French DM was in London with his agent tonight and was reportedly meeting with Arsenal.

    Anyone have anymore details?

  237. Blaise Matuidi apparently

  238. Marc

I’ve seen this – it’s breakin on IMS global football

His name is Cha Cha Putain and he plays for Montpellier

    Arsene does it again

  239. I even more confused now.

  240. silver gunner

MELO has been signed by Juventus for £20m

  241. silver gunner

So that story can be canned now…..

  242. Melo signed by Juve – it looks like Wenger is moving fast for his next target – I hope this Cha Cha Putain is the business

  243. silver gunner

    alang wtf?

  244. silver gunner

no one could possibly be called cha cha putain

  245. Cha Cha Putain? That does not sound like a real person

  246. See IMS Global football – it’s breaking there..seen in North London tonight

    He plays in Montpellier

  247. Melo was never an option Wenger will never spend 20m on a player not even Messi!!!!!!!!!

Cana is the man we should sign

  248. No Gooner Ted – Cha Cha Putain is the man

  249. Gooner Ted – Wenger would spend £20 million on Messi in a heartbeat. What he won’t do is pay over (what he considers to be) the odds.

  250. Cha Cha Putain is up on youtube – but I made a mistake

He is a cross dressing saxaphone player that plays in Montpellier – not for them

He is in North London for a gig tonight

Sorry – these search engines can really throw you a wobbler when you are desperately seeking positive news

  251. alang is taking the piss.

The story is that Matuidi, as Marc said, was reportedly in London neeting Wenger and Gazidis.

    There are no other sources.

  252. alanG – That’s one of the funniest things I’ve read in ages. You’re either very funny or really daft.

  253. If I were Senderos, I’d stay at Arsenal and fight. But I’m not him and he’s certainly not me and now he’ll be off to some lesser club in some lesser league and his career will taper off.

  254. AlanG has a whole head full of piss. Why would he want to take more?

  255. silver gunner

    Poliziano
    Quality……….

  256. Cha Cha Petomane is more likely, people can dance to his farting accompaniment.

  257. Cha Cha Phart’a'Toi

  258. Sorry there must be some mistake here. The new Arsenal monster, midfield enforcer is 5’9″ and called “Blaise”.

  259. Who said the nedia did not read blogs. This is off SkySports.com.

“”Fundamentally we believe in the squad that Arsene has been developing,” he said Gazidis, speaking in an interview with the Arseblog website.”

  260. missed half an M there.

  261. Arsene was never going to buy Melo – not for 20M. With Dennilson and song playing a screamer last season, we dont need a Defensive Mid. We need team spirit…

  262. Though an unknown french lad looks like the Arsene way. Or someone from the reserves or the Academy will step up… but there wont be any mega buck signings

  263. Let’s go and buy that team spirit!!!

    Who is he playing for?

  264. Well if you needed any more proof that the press and media feed off the negativity on blog sites. Today is it. Arseblog has been plundered by internet sites and The Mirror directly. The doomers of course will be really pleased with this.

Personally I think it is a fucking disgrace that a blogsite purporting to be an Arsenal supporting site should put out such shit about the club, manager or players. Well done Arseblog. Who needs tabloids when we have you.

….and with your new found legitimacy with the Gazidis interview they are going to be looking for you to take the lead in dishing out this crap. I am sure you won’t disappoint, along with other notable ‘Arsenal’ blogsites, who will see this a green light to increase their dising of the manager and players. Because they know best don’t they?

You fucking bastards, you know who you are.

    ….Arsenal….

  265. Fucking little shit no mark from leGrove wakes up one morning. ‘Oh I wonder what to do today. Fucking hate Adebayor he’s African, got too much money and talks differently to me’…..’I know I will write shit about him and gather some shit comments from my no mark friends’…’Never know that might drive him away from the club, specially if the tabloids do a a job on it’…..

‘Oh it worked. Must try that again and again and again’

    You fucking bastards.

  266. Today is a very, very black day indeed for real Arsenal supporters. We truly have become the very worst supporters in the Premiership.

  267. Arseblog has been annihilated by The Mirror. Seeing the Gazidis interview they decided to pick out material which would undermine the site. All they had to do was look back a day or two and they find the site dising an Arsenal player.

    Taking sweets from children.

I don’t suppose anyone with a grain of sense connected with the club will give an interview to a blogsite ever again.

Some bloggers are so utterly vain, conceited and stupid. It is like diving into a pool full of hungry sharks and shouting ‘look at me look at me’…

    ….Arsenal….

  268. Arseblog, Gunnerblog and to a lesser extent Goodplaya have gradually altered their editorial policy to cater to the lowest common denominator.

They have understood that a large percentage of their audience probably started supporting the club post the invincibles and can be easily misled and wound up for more hits. Its all about the money. Their online advertising revenue now drives them more than anything else.

LG ofcourse comes in an even lower category of being run by a blogger who like Pyles does’nt even support the club.

  269. I agree Alex. These guys have let us all down BIG time.

    …..Arsenal….

  270. Frank, you’ve managed to express everything I feel about this situation. Gazidis should have been warned that if he was going to speak to an Arsenal blogsite the ‘populist’ Arseblog was not the one to be associated with. But I suppose it’s the same as having to talk to the sun, star or daily mail – Arseblog has found his level and is in good company there.

  271. Exactly, Passenal

  272. Serk da Turk

    Frank

I personally feel that it’s worse than you realise mate. The fact that a blog has been used as a legitimate source of information actually legitimises other blogs as well. It opens a door for the hacks to delve into Le Grove and all the other sh!tholes and and pick out what ever crap they want and sensationalise it into what ever they feel will sell the most papers or get the most clicks. I think this may only be the beginning!

Today truly is a very very dark day for real supporters. I’m so disappointed.

  273. Hi Serk da Turk, that was the point of the comment at 8.15am.

    …Arsenal….

  274. The negative sites will not see this as a wake up call to support the manager and players. Instead they will see it as a breakthough into the big time, a triumph. More notoriety, more hits.

Arseblog will get more hits as a result of The Mirror article.

Bit twisted aren’t they? In what way are they different to the online tabloids?

  275. 1 loose cannon

Frank- It is sad these people exist. This is the only time I wished i was a hacker I would’ve destroyed his sad little shit of a site.

  276. 1 loose cannon

The problem is this kind of thing set an example to the other site who are deseperate for clickers on their site and might follow the same path. How they can we stop this crap happening?

  277. I agree 1lc

  278. It was obvious that the tabloids would become more blatant in their use of blogs to feed their own agendas. In a perverse way they can claim legitimacy from them as they are the true ‘voice of the fan’. See the comment on Arsenal fans ‘No 1′ hate figure for instance.

If this is a battle, and it is, then at the moment we are losing. We can keep this site strong but the poison on most other Arsenal blogs, and it is most other Arsenal blogs is widespread and systemic. As has been pointed out already, this will get worse as bloggers fall over themselves to get their name in the papers and hacks court their new and willing ‘inside’ sources.

Othello anyone? There are a lot of Iagos out there.

We are The Arsenal. This business is an absolute disgrace and shames us.

  279. Serk da Turk

Agreed Frank. They don’t understand the damage they are doing. They don’t even see that they are an integral component of the machinations against Arsenal.

“But it’s just a blog”, “I’m only giving my opinion”, “It’s not like I actually booed one of our players”, “I wasn’t one of those people that wanted Wenger out”.

No. But you gave them a voice. You gave them belief. Not just in themselves but in the idea that they weren’t alone. That there were others just like them. Thinking the same thoughts. Feeling the same things. And consensus more than made up for righteousness. The sheep are merely sheep. They merely followed. But your actions; your words; your ideas; they were the evil little seeds for all that has unfolded.

The worst thing is that I’m not sure that they have the intelligence to ever understand all of this.

  280. I agree CB

  281. Well said, SdT.

We are dealing with an age old phenomenon here. The bloggers have tapped into an age old formula which has kept tabloids in business for several hundred tyears now. The online negativity is just another manifestation of the same behaviour, the same tendency to gorge on misfortune and negativity, combined with a deluded ‘I know best’ attitude. It is not limited to supporting Arsenal, it is all pervasive in Football, Sport, Politics etc etc. Something at the very core of human psychology and behaviour is at the root of this stuff.

We need to box very clever here.

  282. 1 loose cannon

Yogi needs to remove Arseblog from his list and any of their links posted on here they shouldn’t get anymore exposure .I’m sorry they have gone too far with this .

  283. “SdT” Sounds contagious. Feel free to just call me Serks.

I agree, there is much need for a calculated course of action. And it is most definitely a battle! I have been reading the blog for sometime but generally don’t contribute (It’s difficult to catch the thread while the conversation is actually still going on, on account of the times I do for work. Usually one of you guys have already articulated what I thinking anyway. Or come out with something far more insightful). I think that you guys have been doing a great job of getting rid of the doomers and such. But I’m beginning to think that maybe the out right aggressive approach isn’t enough anymore. I think that people that actually come on here NEED to be educated. There is simply more of them then there is real supporters. Beating them isn’t enough. They need to be converted.

  284. Alex

I used to frequent Gunnerblog and really felt he was a decent Gooner. Never jerkin a knee, always looking for the positives… Howver, you are 100% correct, he has done down the slippery pole to the dark saide and after a few rants at him, have completely f*cked his site off….

As for Arseblog, he is funny and witty at times, but from about a year or 2 ago, he has been rather apt at chatting sensationalist bullshite and again, i have challenged him on this, but wtf can one do apart from ignore tha twat, which is what I SHOULD do with regards to Myles Palmer, but i can’t resist sending him cosy little messages of lurve now and again…. The w*nker!

  285. Frank, Passenal, CBob, Serk, Cannon, Spike – I concur with you guys 100%. It gives me very little pleasure to say I have long ranted against these f*ckers for their negativity and barely-concealed racism. The response of the naive was to “lighten-up.”
The “credibility” now given to the A-blogs of this world is simply going to make our job harder. I just hope the ACLFs, Arsenal Visions, Untold Arsenal and similar sites remain committed to becoming citadels of gooner support and enemies of the ant-goons.
