Show Me The Money, Fred’s Not Dead & Melo Feelings

So the plan by Sherrif Fatman to become a Man of the People is to be given serious consideration this week at the Board meeting. Quite right too for a Rights Issue in the broad terms that Sherrif mentioned is not a bad idea, as it would theoretically give supporters the chance to buy shares. Where the waters turn murky grey is Fatman underwriting it, ie guaranteeing to buy any shares that are not purchased, a nice back door way to gain a bit more influence at the club, may be even being put into the position of bidding for the club as a result.

Quite what the legalities of it all are enough to send lawyers into an orgasm over the size of the bills that they will be able to issue for services rendered. Depending upon which media outlet you believe, the Arsenal Board are either not against it or rabidly opposed. The latter is hardly surprising since it leaves the way open for their shareholdings to be diluted (The Guardian) or are taking advice from their bankers over using the money to reduce the debt (Daily Telegraph). The latter media outlet has the wrong end of the stick though for it wants to portray Usmanov as having pumped money into the club whereas he, like Kroenke and others before him, has only invested in the pockets of those who sold their shares to him.

The latter course of action is not how Usmanov positioned the idea when he floated it a month ago. The money was to be made available for Wenger in the transfer market. Gazidis was interviewed in The Sunday Times yesterday and mentioned the debt and how it is being impacted by the property market being depressed. The Highbury Square development borrowings are ringfenced away from the football side of things and are due to be repaid next year. The club want to defer this repayment but as of yet has not agreed this hence the serious consideration being given to Usmanov’s proposal.

The position that the Board would be put in depends largely on the lenders yet it will be they who are castigated should they be forced into an alternative course of action. I doubt that they will be enticed into a situation whereby Usmanov underwrites a Rights Issue. They may if it were a joint exercise with Kroenke but that path is fraught with difficulties, not least because The Takeover Panel could determine that the pair had acted in consort and therefore have to make a bid for Group.

Of course it gives more credence to the view adopted by Freddie Ljungberg last week, a Jerry Maguire moment where he bellowed, “Show me the money!“. Well OK that’s not how The Mirror hacks reported it:

The feeling I get is the financial situation is a bit tight – what is the state of the club?. Nobody’s come out and said why they’re not spending. Everyone is asking that. I get sad just to look at the results in the last few years. When I played there they always said if you don’t win a trophy every year then it was not good enough. I hope they turn it around.

Well, actually, Freddie, Arsene has said why he is not spending. He is working within his budget and strengthening the squad where he has identified weaknesses. Wenger has not denied this needs to happen but it seems that Freddie believes Arsene has always been able to spend the sort of money that Real has this summer when he knows that is patently untrue. Ljungberg is of course right in saying his bit about the trophies. Those were the days of developed internationals coming to the peak of their games, augmented by unknowns such as, oooh, er, Freddie Ljungberg; the days of Bergkamp, Henry and Pires with a smidgen of Vieira and the back four mixed in. Days that are probably on the verge of re-emerging thanks to the development of the squad that Arsene has undertaken.

Contrast Freddie’s reported uneasiness with that of Gilberto Silva. The guitar playing, samba merchant passed his opinions of Felipe Melo with the smooth, unruffled simplicity that was the hallmark of his game when at Arsenal:

If they got him it would be great because he is a player they need at the moment.I’m sure if they got him it would be a good signing.

Arriving late on the scene to deposit the ball in the back of the net, he went on:

I have told him Arsenal is a great club and I am sure next season they will improve

You’ve got to love former players who see the positive in things. ’til Tomorrow.

  1. Not just former players….

  2. gotta love g. silva

  3. May be the first but until someone else posts I am also the last. As the say, the first shall be last and the last shall be first.

  4. Oh, looks like I could only manage measley third…

  5. Good to here sense on the Rights Issue.
There seems to be a lot of copy out there billing FatN’Orange’s proposal as a PR stunt, when it is really just a tricky power grab.
If I understand this correctly, rights to the shares in the offer go to existing shareholders on a pro rata basis. Whenever a shareholder chooses not to take up his allotment, then the underwriter, the Fat guy, gets first rights to buy those shares himself.
Presumably, all the well-heeled principals would take up their apportionment. However, especially given the current economic climate, a lot of smaller holders who might not otherwise sell their existing stake, will take a pass on buying more. So if FatN’Orange cannot shake any more shares from the existing trees, this is a way to create new trees.
The PR part is just a smokescreen, but this morning I was wondering, too, whether possibly this recent sudden burst of headlines about high-priced Arsenal acquisitions (the fairly ridiculous 30m for Benzema and the utterly ridiculous 40m for Mr Robbery) may not be an orchestrated part of this — just to try to beat the mindless into another froth about spending in advance of the meeting.

  6. The Freddie quotes come from here:

    http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/2830557/

I dunno, it feels like analytical titans such as these shouldn’t be wasting their time concentrating on Arsenal.

  7. No way should there be a rights issue. Under the current conditions, those poor Arsenal fans who are cash strapped would disapppear. Who benefits? The fatman. Arsenal is not in distress, they are well able to pay their bills. A rights issue to buy players? Highly risky assets like that? That’s stupid. Clubs must live within their means, end of.

  8. I’m not over keen on Melo, I must admit. I have only seen the Confederations cup, and know that Arsene has liked for some time.

Arsene Knows far more than me, so if he comes, sweet. If not I wont be to disappointed.

It is very interesting what is happening at the club. I saw an interview of Arsene’e in which he said that Barcelona’s success is down to Kruyff. He talked about the structure he built. So I think this is Arsene’e ultimate goal. It to see an Arsenal that is always at the top challenging.

Thank you Arsene, your the greatest. I will support Arsenal my whole life. I would not want to sacrifice the next 40 – 50 years for a quick title over the last 4. The 4 years which have passed are the most significant in the clubs history.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  9. The 30m for Benzema just seems like more anti-Arsenal meddling in the press, dressed up as good news. Knowing we are not going to spend that much on a player, the N.O.T.W dangle tit-bits, exciting enough for (some of) the fans, only to be disappointed and angry when it never materialises. Not that it was ever going to in the first place.

    Yes, Gilberto Silva. Great man.
Freddie, talking out of his pants.

  10. Family Enclosure Man

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Gilberto Silva is a class act.

  11. brdgunner,

Who tells you Arsenal has liked Melo or is remotely interested in him. Gilberto even said that all Melo himself has heard are rumours.

    LB,

I don’t have a problem with a rights issue so long as it does not change the existing ownership structure of the club.

It is fundamental that we maintain dispersed ownership.

Do we really need to spend £100M on the squad? I don’t think so. But reducing the debt would be nice-

  12. Just had a look at that Freddie link,
God I hate pundits. Leaving aside the actual words that come out of their mouths for a second; just the intonation of their voices is enough to piss me off.

  13. The rights issue process is pretty straight forward and YW is right; shareholders are offered shares pro-rata to their current holding. Shares are normally offered at a discount to the market share price, and in a ratio to current shareholdings, e.g. you are offered one new share for every two held. Now if Stan, Red+White, Danny and Lady Nina all take up there holdings, there won’t be much left to pick up, as between them they own 85%, but what are the chances of Danny and Lady Nina taking up their rights? Danny sold a third of his stake to Stan and Lady Nina has been kicked off the board.

Stan and Red+White are both close to the Takeover Panel threshold of 30%, after which the rules dictate that they would have to make a bid (but people do not have to accept it) for the remainder of the shares at the highest price paid by each of them over the last year. If either (or both) where to underwrite all but the smallest of rights issue, it is likely that they would have to make a full bid.

I agree with the comment that a rights issue to buy players makes little sense, but a rights issue to clear the £150m of debt (albeit offset by £75m of cash) due within the next two years (which is a very different matter to the £250m long term debt on the stadium) does make sense, as it does cast a shadow over the club and reduces their flexibility in the transfer market. Clearing that short term debt would remove restrictions that I am sure the banks will have imposed on the club.

The thought going through my mind is whether Stan and R+W might even work together on this?

  14. The only decent and fair pundit is Ian Wright, the legend himself

  15. Gilberto = proper gent.

  16. Tommy Tank,
I see that you still don’t understand. You are the joke. If there was any humour in my comment, it came from reminding people of you.

  17. the rights issue as declared by R&W will only attract small investors if it is preceded by 100:1 share split to bring the company share price down to something like £80 which would be affordable to most supporters

  18. Tommy do you think that Gallas was “forced on us then”?

Do you think that Clichy has been better than Cole?

Do you think that every good thing that happens is due to pure dumb luck and every bad thing is down to incompetence?

  19. a99 is right; the current share price does not encourage small shareholders.

  20. That is a good point a99.

  21. Poliziano, keep trying jokes, maybe do stand up in front of your mirror at home, start with simple one liner jokes and then build yourself up. Dont worry you’ll get there one day.

QOS, Ideally we would of kept Cole, so to say otherwise is just lying

  22. Tommy you’re the first gooner I ever saw who says we should have kept Cashley.

  23. Before or after his illegal meeting with Chelsea Tommy?

Once his true colours were revealed, I don’t think there was a chance in hell we wanted to keep him.

It did allow us time to have Clichy ready to step up though.

By holding and holding on the deal until the transfer window was closing…we didn’t give Chelsea time to replace.

I agree it was a regretable situation in the first place, but I think we handled it quite skillfully.

I’m not sure if that view makes me a “liar” or not…or indeed why you feel the need to call me names simply for not sharing the same opinion as you either….

  24. Arsenal is great team and maybe they will not be able spend much.. but Benzema would a great asset to the side. Am positive that Arsenal will be in top of the league this time… they are energetic and enthusiastic bunch of Young Guns… Go Gunners

  25. QOS, liar liar pants on fire, joke. You do make good comments I’m just stating my point.

  26. 1 Loose Cannon

Yes our old boy Gilberto is a man of dignity even when when he was on the bench never complained spoke to Wenger quietly and let him go without any fuss a really true gentleman by the way watching him play last night he can still play the old fox.I’m happy for him.
Daily Filth said we are in for Ribbery for 40 millions and also Benzima for 30 millions you just have to laugh. We’re no mugs thank you. Maybe its Mr Usmanov’s fault for opening his mouth about the money and got the money grabbers excited and started linking us with their players to start a bidding war. Its looks like Melo is in the picture as Gilberto confirmed the player’s enquiries about Arsenal. I watched him for the first time last night he is a good player very rough conceeded lots of free kicks around the box which he can’t afford to give away in the Premiership but if he comes under Wenger’s guidance he will improve that side of his game. My conclusion from only watching him once is I can’t see why he is better than Denilson who is only 21. very similar they look similar too.Maybe Melo a little rougher than Denilson. If he comes I think a combination of Denilson Melo and Song will be great.

  27. Hello everyone….

Just a quicky…OG…whats the difference between cashley, flamini, hleb and adebayor?????

il tell you what, there is no difference…other than ade got what he wanted…the rest didnt so they moved….ade would of moved too if we hadnt of tripled is wages

funny that isnt it???? half the player for triple the wage…pulled the same stunt as cashley….yet is still defended…

  28. Cashley, a man who was so full of himself and convinced that he was in the right (even when the FA fined him) that he ghosted a book which neither team’s fans would ever want to buy. The book remaindered faster than any other book in history.

  29. “Now if Stan, Red+White, Danny and Lady Nina all take up there holdings, there won’t be much left to pick up, as between them they own 85%.”

Respectfully disagree with this statement. A couple weeks back it was reported that Stan was now down to buying shares in lots of 1 and 3 at a time.

This struggle is coming down to the final stages, and each of Stan and R+W seem ready to grab every single, individual share they can get their hands on.

Even if Oozemanov cannot buy up a large block out of this, I think that he would be happy just to pick up some scraps out of that 15% — mind you, all under the guise of helping the club.

  30. If it was totally about the money JonJon am i right in thinking that Wenger has stated Ade was offered more money elsewhere?

  31. 1 Loose Cannon,

I am in the same boat as you in that I have only watched Melo in the Confederations Cup and I agree that he has a few rough edges which would need to be worked on for him to fit in to the prem. I thought he showed signs of being able to distribute well from the middle of the park, a feature missing from our team last season. Song did well in patches (he destroyed Wigan), but Denilson and Diaby can’t pass.

  32. a99

That was the nub of Sherrif Fatman’s proposal. The shares would be offered at considerably lower prices than the market currently dictates.

I doubt very much that it will happen in the manner that he desires, if at all.

    YW

  33. How on earth did you come to the conclusion that Denilson can’t pass Wavey? He has the highest pass completion in the league!

  34. QOS

i think it was about the money my dear….totally…ade didnt get a better deal anywhere else thats why he stayed…

if you cast your mind back to a few months ago ade did an interveiw which was broadcast saying football is all about the money…otherwise he wouldnt of left togo….

by all means defend him if you want…i just chose not to because i cant see how…..

    but quickly moving on….

  35. How can it be all about the money though Jonjon if he could have got more elsewhere….?

At the very least there must have been an element of money plus inertia.

  36. One important fact JonJon overlooks. Ade is an Arsenal player, none of the others are so yes, we support him. It’s really really simple being a supporter. You support.

  37. As pass completion includes bouncing the ball backwards and forwards between midfielders and defenders without actually going anywhere I am sure that Denilson has a great record.
I’m talking about the ability to make telling passes, spraying a ball down the line for a winger to run on to, or a defence splitting threaded ball.

  38. Here we go again, wavey says Denilson can’t pass.

For me Melo is no substantial improvement on Denilson, he (melo) may be better but not by much.

  39. QoS

he couldnt get more anywhere else…who told you that…thats why hes still here…

  40. Melo isn’t as good as Denilson. He’s more physical, but can’t pass as well (who can?), and doesn’t read the game as well.

  41. steww

    ade is an ade player

  42. That’s not what you said Wavey – you said he can’t pass.

So now you are backtracking and saying that he can’t make telling/defense splitting passes…

I’m pleased to inform you that Denilson also had a very respectable return of assists last season.

Which sort of passses are you now going to say you meant?

  43. Melo would be an extra player for our midfield, but wouldn’t replace anyone.

  44. HKM, my point was that if they looked to clear the short term debt, they would probably offer new shares on approximately a 1 new for every 3 held ratio, so the rights issue shares of the non-big 4 shareholders would amount to only 3.75% of the enlarged share capital. If Lady Nina and Danny did not take up their holdings, then on the same basis, then 11.75% of the share capital would be up for grabs.

I do agree with you about the “final stages” of Stan and Red+White. With both of them determined to stay involved, I think it is inevitable that they will start working together and that detente will surely break out.

Going through the cost of a Takeover Panel official bid process will be far more palatable for either of them if they are also raising the fresh money via the rights issue and are no longer hostile.

What are the odds on Lady Nina and Danny selling their holdings, Stan and R+W controlling the company between them and David Dein becoming the new chairman?

  45. I’m talking about the ability to make telling passes, spraying a ball down the line for a winger to run on to, or a defence splitting threaded ball.
    ——————–

And Melo made how many of those “telling” passes in his 5 games?

If Denilson cannot make such passes where does his assists come from?

  46. I think he means overhead kick passes from inside his half to within 15cm of the opponents penalty spot.

He’s right as well, Denilson sucks at that sort of pass.

  47. JonJon,

    There’s a big difference.

Ade compromised and thus showed some modicum of fealty to Arsenal. The others did not. They went and took all the money that was available somehere else.

Flamini was even willing to forego rather deep friendship with Cesc & Tomas.

And Cashley? It’s not just that he went for nothing but cash. It’s how he went, and where he went.

  48. Also I think your basic premise is wrong Jonjon…Flamini in particular would be “forgiven” if you read the utterings of most of the GKB brigade…despite the fact that he was the one we didn’t get a transfer fee or player exchange for…

  49. Sorry guys…we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that one…

  50. Isn’t the first time – won’t be the last, Jonjon :-)

  51. Well we certainly disagree.

I don’t see how you can vilify a player for accepting the club’s terms & staying at the club. It’s absurd.

  52. JonJon

Your point is invalid and QofS is right, Ade had offers on the table, better offers. He chose to stay for less money than he would have got elsewhere, actually far less money. In Spain and Italy i believe tax on earnings is alot less than here.. financially if Ade thought about all his offers Arsenal was the worst. He showed loyalty to Arsenal and Wenger ans stayed.

What is your point exactly and what is your agenda??

  53. i agree with that QoS

Ole…beleive me i can understand why you would defend anyone in the shirt…but when said player not only used the fact that clubs wanted him to get a payrise but went public with it too…and then doesnt give the same amount of effort he did the year before…to me that player becomes undefendable…

barca have wanted cesc for years…and yes he may have got a pay hike out of it…we will never know…but cesc hasnt gone public with it…the same with sagna the same with clichy and robin….they all have been linked to other clubs but the dont come out and say they may leave…

    only ade did that…

gallas was the same…gallas acted out of order by going public with what he said…but he buckled down and showed what a classs player he is so i have no quarms…i will defend him…

ade did wrong…and never recaptured the form that got him the rise…like i said we ended up with half the player on triple the money and he still couldnt keep his trap shut…

if he stays and he buckles down i’ll be fine with that…but judging by his record i dont think he can buckle down…

lets just agree to disagree and leave it at that eh??

i think we have a decent player with an attitude problem and you think we have an excellent player who has no attitude… fair enough..

  54. 1 Loose Cannon

Wavey -you’ve been a bit harsh there saying Denilson can’t pass for a first full season he has done exceptionally well he is only 21. Next season he will be stronger and even better. If wenger really intrested in Melo it will not be to replace Denilson I’m certain of that because it will be such a shame to nock Denilson after all the efforts he put in last season. He is also a good character and a nice lad.I hope he stays with us for a long time and establish himself.

  55. CG

do you have proof that ade had better offers or are you just making it up???

as ive already pointed out ade once did an interveiw where he stated football is all about the money…

thats why i said if there was a better offer he would have gone…

but my point is ade used the fact a club wanted him to get a payrise…fair enough..but why go public with it and create a negative environment around the club…??? he didnt need to…im sure wenger knew that milan were after him…ade didnt need to tell the world did he??

  56. JonJon,

What did Ade go public with?

  57. JonJon

Your argument is fair, but the guy has chosen to stay, been plagued with injuries and scored 16 goals. People say his commitment aint their etc… but you cannot really judge that so simply.

You say Cesc has always shown he loves arsenal etc… maybe his comments to the media are more thought through than Ade’s… but look recently what happened to Cesc’s interview, thousands of fans went mad and actually believed Cesc would leave this summer… This is a player that loves our club and will give everything to Wenger and the club.. If they can turn his comments to crap.. dont you think they can do the same to Ade.. There is only 1 answer, this means the problem arises from the media and not from Ade. Lay off and let the boys play because im sure there will plenty of articles that will make you wonder about many more of our players.

Sagna & Robin also already targeted, they did deny the rumours… just like Ade has done… its just many fans like yourself are already manipulated into the fact that Ade plays for money. Which obviously cannot be true if he could have gone elsewhere.

Your argument is flawed. Learn how to support and dont try cover your lack of support with comments like “we will have to agree to disagree”

My comment to you is “back the shit that comes out your mouth or dont bother saying it”

  58. JonJon

Do you have proof that he didnt??? Ade isn’t up for trial here if you didnt notice, there is no eviction process that warrants a player a transfer out of the club. Its the fans that call for players heads and slag them off who should be up for eviction. That is a very pleasant thought… only if…

  59. OG

1…ade does interview saying hes staying

2…ade then does an interview specifically stating he has several clubs after him and his future was uncertain

3…ade does and interview in africa and states that football is all about the money

4..ade does an interview for BBc and states that he doesnt understand why the fans dont like him and its their fault…

i could mention the beyonce thing but that was paper talk…the rest was ade talk….

    is that enough???

ade needs to learn to shut it and get on with it…

  60. ‘buckle down’ is an American phrase which is probably derived from the English ‘buckle to’,which means to put you back into it or work hard.

The English phrase in current use is ‘knuckle down’ which is a term used in marbles. The non-marble meaning to the phrase is ‘to apply vigorously’

  61. CG

read through my comments again very carefully

the shit that comes out of my mouth is backed up….insults do not back anything up but poor form my friend…

watch how i blog for a little while…sit back have a cuppa and chill….and you might learn something

  62. twotouchmiracle

Its hillarious to watch fans like JJ get stitched up by the media.

  63. 1 Loose Cannon

Jon Jon all your talk is based on speculation and his money grabber agent who can’t keep his mouth shut. Did you know Arshavin sacked his agent recently and that is proof that sometimes what you get from agent is not necessarily what the player thinks. we don’t really know what is going on I have never talked to Ade and you never did and we never will so we don’t know what he is thinking right now. Whatever happens to Ade and whatever he wants to do in his career is up to him.If he stays great if he doesn’t we wish him all the best. I don’t take any pleasure in slagging off other people without any purpose. If we are not certain about things we should leave them alone and not make things worst by adding more fuel to the fire.

  64. buckle, knuckle same thing..

and we are run by americans so…..

  65. Buckle and knuckle are not the same thing and we are not run by Americans…

  66. 1 loose cannon…

how can something that comes out of the mans mouth himslef be speculation…surley its fact??

  67. whos kroenke and gazidis then frank????

  68. The first is an Arsenal shareholder who currently has Board status along with a number of other Board members of differing nationality. The second is the CEO of the club, who was born in South Africa I believe and has lived in England and the USA previously. But never mind that, are you suggesting that you have started to adopt an American accent and phraseology, JonJon?

  69. ttm

the media havent made any of those interviews up…ade actually did them…do you watch TV???

  70. so who runs the club then frank?

  71. JonJon,

Ade should learn to shut it. That I heartily agree with. He talks a lot of tosh if you ask me. And his agent is very unprofessional. Ade’s agent is his worst enemy.

But I want to point out that many fans have been rather harsh to him.

I was deeply disappointed with Ade’s agent’s antics last Summer. Ade himself didn’t do much wrong. The Sky interviews was Ade making a fool of nobody but himself. He thought he was talking off-record I suppose.

But in the end, Ade wanted to stay with the club. Otherwise he’d have left. I hope you’d just simply acknowledge this. And it’s quite easy to assume he’d have gotten more money elsewhere. Given that Flamini got a bumper package from the same club. But you’re right that we don’t know for sure that he would. But the club obviously thought that he would get more elsewhere.

I don’t agree with your conclusion that Ade is a good player with an attitude problem. But I find it to be at least a reasonable conclusion. It’s based on your perception that he stopped trying now he’s got a fat salary.

The reason I disagree is that I’ve seen players with worse attitudes all over the league. Asking for more money from the club and making it public, seems mild compared to many other player episodes to be frank

But you also think he dropped his level of effort. If this is true, it’s a bad thing for any player to do, but managing that kind of thing is the Manager’s job.

I still believe 100% in Arsene. It’s why I think he can and he will manage Ade. Afterall he’s the one who took a player most people thought was a donkey and made him one of the better players in the Premier League.

Wenger says he wants to keep Adebayor. He resisted big money offers for him last season. And he says he wants to do the same this season.

  72. I don’t watch TV very much at all,JonJon. What was the context of the interviews you cite? If Ade was asked why he left Africa to play football and his answer was ‘becuase of the money, football is all about money’, why would that be wrong or used as a stick to beat him?

  73. good comment Ole

  74. The Board, including the Chairman, the CEO and ‘footballistically’ the manager, AW. One member of the Board is American. Who are the others Americans, JonJon?

  75. twotouchmiracle

Jon Jon, did you actually believe that Gazidis was american…..??!?!

    Shows what you know…..

  76. 1 Loose Cannon

Jon Jon for arguments sake lets say he did say those things last season . What good does it do in you bringing these things up again and going on about it. Leave it. No need for it. Talk about how we did this season footballing wise Where we can improve etc so many things to talk about. If you see Ade in the street would you point the finger at him and accuse him of all those things you mentioned or would you shake his hand an ask for an autograph? be honest.

  77. Oh come on people why do you guys waste time on trolls. Use the tested and successful method.

    “FUCK OFF JON JON”

    FUCK OFF WAVEY

    FUCK OFF TOM TOM

  78. what i find amuzing is that people who havent seen the ade interviews try to argue with me that he hasnt…its funny…they just make idiots of themselves trying to make an idiot of me…

trust me guys…try watch the interveiws first…then come back and tell me im being swayed by the media…

  79. lol @ “But never mind that, are you suggesting that you have started to adopt an American accent and phraseology, JonJon?”

    Hehe. Hahaha.

  80. You’re being swayed by the media Pom Pom.

  81. I have seen the interviews but I don’t watch a lot of TV. I just want to know the context of the interviews you use as examples,JonJon. My problem is that I find the context obscure and so it is difficult to truly undertand the importance or even the meaning of some of the comments.

  82. 1LC

he did say all those things and the reason i bring it all up is to prove my point that he has a bad attitude…would you agree…be honest??

  83. you would frank

    hello adweeb…been a while….see you havent changed…

  84. the majority shareholder owns the majority of the club and the CEO runs the club…americans…. or one american and one english south african american..still americans…… have the biggest say in the running of the club

wenger runs the team….not the club

    americans run the club

    there you go frank

  85. twotouchmiracle

Gazidis is NOT american. Just give it up.

  86. 1 Loose Cannon

Jon Jon-You haven’t answered my question. Would you point the finger at Ade face to face or smile and be nice to him?
If proving your point does any good for our club then I’ll go along with you against Ade. It just doesn’t do any good at all.Its pointless. Is it more important for you to prove that you are right. Ade still an Arsenal player and we should support him.Its simple.

  87. twotouchmiracle

He tried the get the game off the ground in the US, so now he is American…..

where is the logic behind that statement

  88. two touch….but he has an american accent

yes i have 1 loose…i answered it before you asked it…you havent answered mine though..

  89. JonJon you are a right plank

You know everyone is laughing at you right?? or you that stupid to realise it?? It must amuse yourself as well reading your comments yes? you get a kick out of it i bet you troll! lol

  90. 1 Loose Cannon

Jon Jon -My answer is no he does not have a bad attitude. He works hard he tries his best on the pitch and sometimes it does not work out for him like any other player. So what is your answer then ? Would you shake his hand or have ago at him face to face?

  91. twotouchmiracle

    no he does not.

    wow.

    Have you heard him speak?

  92. JonJon once gain you prove your arguments to be flawed and you prove to be a troll.. run along little chap and come back when you learn to back up your points. Better luck next time.

Try… http://www.trolltraining.com it might help you a little

  93. Walcott was on the free video from arseonline today. Says that histarget next season is 15 goals no injuries, fair enough. Just thinking, how many players do we have who could get 15 goals next year????

I reckon on top of the 3 who did it last year, Eddy, Walcott, Arshavin.

If we can get 6 players all scoring over 16 goals that would be something, no other team in the league has that sort of firepower now. City like collecting strikers, but we have people to create chances and make tackles to, they just have show ponies. No way hughes is in a job by the end of november. You can get 9/1 on us for the league, not bad odds people.

JonJon – Ade did the interviews, said the things he said. In hindsight let your agent talk up a move to get extra cash, no doubt about that. What i dont see, is why playing hard-ball for a new contract – which is what he did, rather than pull an anelka and wangle a move – is such a disgrace?

His form last year wasn’t as good as the year before, but the team didn’t play as well. Same can be said for clichy, fabregas, sagna even. There is no way to know that his drop in play was due to getting paid more, as opposed to worse service, less confidence, team issues, or getting booed by the fans.

Ade has aid publicly, in an interview which i am sure you have seen, that fans support makes a big difference. Vieira and henry used to say similar things. He handled himself badly, but he was 24 and in a situation he hadn’t experienced before. Why not give him the benefit of the doubt for the good of the club/team. This isnt a moral issue ffs.

  94. of corse i am CG

thats why you resort to personal insults instead of debate on the topic….takes one to know one…

adebayors interviews suggest hes got a bad attitude is responded to by you talk shit and your a plank becuase i say so

go figure who the plank is???

  95. What’s so bad with an American running a club? American owners seem to be doing okay in the Premiership, yeah?

Also, they were actually running the Ljundberg clip on espn.com last week. Basically the three commentators had him on to discuss the future of Arsenal for 3 or 4 minutes. His tone was not at all disparaging, but rather diplomatic and open-minded after stating that he was something to the effect of an Arsenal man forever. He was just rehashing the questions surrounding Arsenal’s finances that everyone in the media seems to be asking given their restraint in spending vis a vis Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea. And he said he wasn’t sure about the veracity of any claims surrounding whether or not the stadium is a hindrance at the moment. So basically it’s nothing to be pissed at Freddie about.

  96. What is a troll?

  97. A guy or girl who goes onto internet forums with the sole intention of causing trouble…you c**t!

  98. 1lc

adebayor doesnt work hard at all…thats the problem…he used to…he now doesnt

and no i wouldnt shake his hand….i wouldnt even speak to him

    ttm

yes i have he has an american twinge in his accent..and he has an american express card.

  99. So, someone who guys around calling people a cunt then?

  100. JonJon,

Don’t give an response like that….”but he has an American accent”.

He is not American. End of. You sound like Toxic Tommy when you say stuff like that.

  101. arse chicago….

so you agree that we are run by americans???

i say we are..what do you say??

  102. Jonjon – the whole squad had problems last year, the spirit was obviously low at times and form hard to come by. Why do you judge adebeyor differently from the rest on that?

By his standards, cesc was poor last year, very much so. He gets let off though, because he is great and popular, of course he should. Why not ade? The issue isnt his form or effort, not if he is held to different standards, but just that people dont like the guy. That is very unsuportive.

  103. but he lived in america ole…

    surley that counts???

anyway we are still run by americans…

  104. arsenehollis…

yes the whole squad was poor..but im not talking about form…im talking about ades attitude and committment…

its not unsupportive…im making an observation on a blog…it aint like im booing at the emirates is it??

ade doesnt read this…so how is it unsupportive

  105. and even wenger said that adebayors on off transfer threats destablised the team…he didnt say cesc, or anyone else he said ade.. so i jugde ade diferent on that basis…and the interviews ades done where hes made a total prat of everyone..

  106. I actually hadn’t researched his heritage, as I really didn’t think it to be a big deal. All I knew was that he had played a major role in MLS in America. So I just checked wikipedia….

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Gazidis

Assuming that’s all accurate, I probably wouldn’t classify him as an American. My point was, I don’t care if a Mongolian warlord is running the club. As long as it’s being run successfully and responsibly.

  107. arseneholis,

Hats off to you. You’ve communicated in fewer words, what I’ve been trying to say for 2 days.

Ade is being picked on. Many players in the squad didnt play as well as they could last season. Ade was injured. He made mistakes. His agent screwed him.

He’s still with us. Just support him.

  108. JonJon

JonJon, you deserve comments like plank, troll etc.. thats all you will get from me, and thats all everyone else should give you. You cannot put a point across to even gain an argument from me…

    points like:

“anyway we are still run by americans…”

“so you agree that we are run by americans???i say we are..what do you say??”

“wenger runs the team….not the club, americans run the club”

Hold on a second, i think Wenger has had more of a say in the running of our club down the years than Gazidiz has in a few months? Why you jumped to stirring a fuss with this agenda you have against americans now that your argument against Ade seems to have failed.

You get a kick out of causing trouble . FUCK OFF mate.. (on your bike if you prefer me not insulting you, you twat)

  109. me neither arsechicago…

but i still think we are run by americans….

and im looking forward to the ivan/stan combo….it will only take us forward..maybe we can conquer the US market…world and global domination….

    the pennies will roll in…

  110. no offence CG but your last comment made no sense whatsoever….

    can you rephrase it please???

  111. Using your terminology, JonJon, we are clearly not run by ‘Americans’, but you are well aware of that. There is nothing wrong with an ‘American’ running the club per se. I would imagine that ‘Americans’ come in all shapes and sizes and when it comes to running football clubs, each to their own merits. Not sure that I have seen an example of a well run club, run by ‘American’ owners in the Prem yet. But one day, Kroenke may be the first. He certainly does not run the club at the mement.

BUT…the point was really that you seem to believe that supporters should adopt the accent and phraseology of the club owners.

    Uvidmisia

  112. JonJon

Im off, keep up the good work. Good luck down at the Lane next year you yid troll cu** :)

    IGNORE JonJon people

  113. Whoops… uvidimsia…this stuff needs practice.

  114. CG

i have no beef with the americans i think its great…where did i say i didnt want them here???

    again rephrase please…

  115. I like the fact that Adebayor is African. That means a lot to me.

  116. frank…

i dont seem to beleive anyrthing other than ade has a bad attitude… what does american blah de blah have to do with the price of chips on a friday???

  117. JonJon

    FACK OFF

    you understand that???

  118. Ole,
The more I think about it, the more I side with you on the Ade situation. It’s easy for us to get all hot and bothered about his comments, but these guys are still very young guys. Just imagine how much more dickish we would all have been at 25 had we the money a footballer has. Anyway, seeing how other clubs’ fans support players that are rocking the boat suggests that it’s not too outlandish to put aside our sometimes disappointed feelings towards the business aspects of football in favor of supporting the club and each of its player components. While I’m not sure Ade is capable of being the #1 striker on an EPL title team, as a fan, I’m willing to hit the re-set button should he be on the club at the start of the season. Clearly he was a better player the year prior to last, and a lot of it had to do with the great chemistry we had at midfield that year. Perhaps he can regain that form to the benefit of the squad.

  119. JonJon

You might have no beef with them, but you should think about how you phrase your comments.. you seem to like starting an argument 1 way or another. Be it about Africans or Americans… some people may come to certain conclusions about you… You know what my conclusion is

Im off now, keep count on how many arguments you cause then let me know the final figure tomorrow pls

  120. I don’t believe that in the UK we buy potatoes from ‘America’, although we do possibly buy vegetable oil. The US might have an impact on the price of crude oil and it is possible that heat, transportation prices affected by the US could affect the price of chips in England. All in all I think it highy probable that the price of chips is affected by ‘Americans’.

  121. I think that Adebayors attitude is fine. I am sure that he will turn in good performances if he is still with us next season….and he probably will be. But we have to wait and see.

  122. CG

i arent starting any arguements…i dont need to rephrase anything

its just bloggers like you who dont read it properly and then dont make any sense yourself

what does ade being african have anything to do with it frank…are you suggesting africans have bad attitudes so its ok to let them off???? i dont understand

ade has a bad attitude…so what if hes african english outer tibetten….hes still a bad influence

  123. Arsechicago,

    That warms my heart.

I don’t think Ade will score 30 goals again. But if he maintains his worst strike rate he’ll get 20-25 goals a season. Which is by no means bad.

I really hope we keep him….and one of the reasons is cynical. I don’t want any excuses. Nobody will be able to say we didnt do well because we lost Ade, and the replacement took 8 months to settle.

Also, replacing player for player is not the goal. We don’t want to take A and replace him with Z. We want to keep A to U and add X, Y, Z so that we are stronger overall, in numbers and in quality.

  124. I really don’t see the problem with Ade, lot’s of players have dips in form, lot’s of players mouth off the the media, it’s been over a year now get over it.

Do you really think that a starting position of negativity towards a player will make him perform better?

Ade angled for more money, the management thought he was worth the extra money, get over it!

  125. Ole, agreed. You can lump Bendtner into the mix here. Though he’s younger than Ade, he, along with Ade, probably have this season to stake their long-term claim with the club. And with this season, there likely won’t be any excuses barring season-long injury.

If the story’s to be believed, Benzema wants to stay one more year in France leading up to the World Cup. Should the strikers not step up this year, I have to believe Arsenal will upgrade in 2010.

Until then, let’s let bygones be bygones with Ade if he’s on the club opening weekend. Sing a song for him and see how he responds from there.

  126. JOn JOn,

    “hello adweeb…been a while….see you havent changed…”

I see that you’ve changed over at the other blog. So you’d want Melo, Veloso, or even Gilberto for that DM role now?

  127. JonJon, I like the fact that Arsenal has African footballers.

  128. frank..i like the fact we have a diversity of talented footballers…not just african…all nations…and im extra excited about the kids like jacky and jet coming through…not only them but coquelin too

    adweeb…veloso if im honest….or flamini….so no real change….

glad you read the comments though…some of the contributers are really insightful and clever…you could learn alot…..

  129. sorry correction…all of the contributers..just a figure of speech…

  130. No I am particularly happy that we have African players in the squad. On the Ateeb comments I have always assumed that your intention was to wreck this site in order to promote your own site, JonJon…

  131. Jonjon – how can you say that ade has a bad attitude, but everyone else in the team just struggles for form? How do you know that? Henry looked a sulky mare sometimes, but would never doubt his heart for the fight. You cant know what his attitude is, that is subjective and UTTERLY irrelevant. Does he play, does he do well, will he do so in the future? Yes on all counts,he will probably improve on last years showing, just as many of our players will.

Dont see though why people are being so abusive about your opinion though dude. That troll guff is rubbish, a refusal to think. Why be here if everybody agrees?

Ole – bang on dude. We should strengthen by adding more talent, let them fight for the places and have a deep squad of quality players.

Bringing youth into the team will be much easier when we can do it with a core of established pros and a solid side to help balance the youth in tough times. Ultimately the future of the club is how well can wenger bring through the brilliant talent behind the first team whilst winning now. Letting Ade go would certainly not help that.

  132. frank…i keep telling you..it aint my site….i just do a write up everynow and then…

i dont intend wrecking anything frank…ive said before that i like YW’s write ups…..its some of the bloggers that let it down….

i like to talk arsenal…ade is so far an arsenal player so i will talk…call me whatever names you want and be as sarcastic as you want…this is only a blog world…nothing to do with my personal life…i couldnt give a shit what you say about me and my opinion wont change…il still think ade has a bad attitude and should be sold….

  133. How very nice of you, arsenehollis.

  134. I didn’t call you a name, JonJon, and you know perfectly well that the community of commenters is part of the site. You also like the commenters here otherwise you would not return.

  135. arsene hollis…ive come to the conclusion that ades attitude is not only mirrored by his form but by his actions/interviews off the field too…the rest of the team may have had slight dips but they kept their mouths shut…

you cant compare ade to henry…henry was special…ades special needs…

i mght not agree with you matey but i respect your view….

    and thanks…

  136. You are too hung up on Adebayor, JonJon, and you are acting illogically. You don’t like him and you are vainly searching for material to support your dislike. The material though is anaemic at best and proves nothing at all. You are trapped in a bubble.

  137. maybe not you frank…but others who dont like it do brand names…

its not necessary really…if they dont agree fair enough..say you dont agree…and backup ypur point…calling someone a troll and a doomer and a c**t just leads to nowhere…

and i do like some of commenters…not all…but some have excellent opinions…it just takes a lot of work to here them…

  138. The sun is shinning where i am frank, no reason not to try and spread it around a bit.

Jonjon – i have to agree with frank, you do seem overly hung up on adebeyor. His attitude always seems enthusiastic to me,i thought he was bang to rights to slate the boo boys at the ground as well.

You want him sold, he probably wont be. He stays, he plays for arsenal, you should be happy to see him do well and hope that last year was just a particularly difficult one. I still think a fit, happy, in form adebeyor is the best thing for arsenal this season, better than anyone we could buy.

Beyond that, how do you see our chances next year?

  139. Jon Jon,,

I am born and raised in South Africa, just like Gazides, lived in the UK for 2 years, lived in the US for 3 years, now live in the caribbean,, I will be south african till the day i die, just like Gazides, dont be a prick, He is South African, allways will be, might get a new passport, hell im going to apply for a new zealand passport as my whole familly are citazens there,, Im still South Africa,,
O damn ,, i forgot i have 2 american express cards, and im dating an American, Shit i must be American then!!

  140. Well we have many, trolls and doomers and anitgoons on this site, JonJon. They get treated as they deserve, with short shrift. The worst are those who repeat themselves endlessly and foundlessly

  141. “adweeb…veloso if im honest….or flamini….so no real change….”

Umm. So you have problems over Ade’s attitude, but you’re ok to have Flamoney back. Hmmm. Nothing surprising there. Can someone please help Jon JOn to realize the contradiction there. Time for you to leave this blog.

  142. It is sunny here too, arsenehollis, and there are many on this site who have retained a very positive outlook for many a year.

  143. if im honest arsenehollis i think we have an excellent chance…..

manure a weaker….we are another year stronger….we could do with another signing in midfield and then i reckon we have a chance at the PL because chelsea and liverpool are shite

i think barca will dominate the CL for a couple more years but or time will come…

  144. Let’s see you wriggle your way out of this one. Go on, give it a try. With irrationality, the possiblites are endless for simple folks like you.

  145. adweeb

flamini was missed.. ade wont be…

    there… happy??

  146. Just come back from a fine lunch with a nice steak and a good bottle of wine, so feeling pretty good.

Not sure why I am receiving abuse, I think that is a bit harsh as we are all surely allowed to have our opinions in an open forum. Fuck it, who cares?

Strange that nobody decided to defend Diaby, lol.

Denilson is young, I do not question that, but he has had a lot of premiership experience. He has played a lot of games over the last TWO or even THREE seasons.

I enjoy your banter QOS, but Denilson has been an average midfielder for us. I hope he will develop, but we need a holding midfielder now. As I said, I have only seen Melo in the Confed Cup and in that tournament he looks like he could pass the ball around a bit. If that’s not true I will bow to the knowledge of more aware commentators than me. I will say that Denilson is not the experienced holding midfield player we desperately need right now.

By the sounds of things a lot of people on here think that our squad is good enough. I’m not convinced.

Do you really believe we can win the prem with what we have got?

  147. Ade’s goals would be missed. Certainly he was missed in the side when he was injured last year.

Did he not score 6 in 8 in CL league as well last year?

  148. and we should of offered flamini a new deal long before we did… ie 2006 CL run… not waited until the last minute and tyr to flog him to birmingham…

    but whats done is done…

  149. To answer your question Wavey – Yes I think this squad is good enough to win the Premiership.

Injuries have derailed our last two efforts…surely we can’t be that “unlucky” a third season in a row?

  150. There is a myth springing up that Flamini guided us to the CL final in 2006…double J just reminded me of it.

Flamini was often regarded as the weak link during that run – the real star was Senderos ironically enough…at times he was magnificent.

  151. I think Denilson can do everything Flamini can do in terms of winning the ball and he keeps the ball better too. He also runs an incredible amount too.

Put Denilson in a midfield with 3 out of Fabregas, Rosicky Arshavin and Nasri and watch him shine.

  152. Maybe this squad can win the league, I certainly think so. But it seems silly to make the choice of buying a new midfielder into a contest between what we have and what we might get.

Why not have them both, the boss can have that problem, and whoever wins the place the squad will be stronger for it. If we get melo, got a call from a friend in london who says it is a done deal basically, it wont hurt our chances of winning the league and we are covered for the inevitable injuries. Two deep midfielder seems to be the fashion now, we have song and denilson. One injury and we are playing an attacking player there. Why not have a specialist?

  153. I am glad that Flamini has gone. I don’t think he had the potential of the current midfield players and Diaby, Denilson and Alex Song have passed him by. Jack and Aaron are about to too.

  154. Wavey, I made the mistake of watching the 07-08 Season in Review a few weeks back, so I suppose I’m erring on the side of optimism. That team in that form prior to Eduardo and Sagna’s injuries would be good enough to win the league. A lot of the parts to that team are still here. I do remember that following Henry’s departure, expectations weren’t all that high and the team surprised many. Perhaps the youth will use the experience from last year as a springboard to match what Hleb and Flamini provided? If at gunpoint and forced to give my honest assessment, I’d say we’re still a top 4 club, but not good enough to win it all. If Eduardo stays healthy and if we maximize Arshavin, throw in an older, more able midfielder and we’re then good enough I think.

  155. JonJon,

Ateeb is right. it’s irrational. Ade is, frankly a better and more valuable player than Flamini. A more accomplished player by any measure.

Anyway, believe what you will. You’re even allowed to tbe irrational and wrong.

  156. Flamini’s importance, while likely overstated, was more his fire, intensity, and attitude. Players play off of guys like him and Denilson, Diaby, Song et al couldn’t claim to provide those intangibles.

From a technical playing ability perspective, Hleb set the table far better than Flamini could/did.

  157. I agree Arsenehollis – I’d also add that given our luck with injuries over the last couple of seasons, i’d rather see us overstocked and have the problem of keeping everyone happy than go into a Champs League ssemi-final with 6 first team players out again.

  158. Bizarre that people think we cant win the league. Last season was full of problems: injuries, morale, form, players leaving, the captaincy, fans negativity. We had a poor season and finished 4th and made 2 semi’s. This year will be better, we are stronger, others are weaker. 9/1 at the bookies is a steal, this is our league to lose! Up the arse.

  159. QoS

it was no myth…flamini played at LB..and we still didnt conceed and got to the final…he played his part…

his workrate and distance covered is greatly missed…

diaby denilson nor song have this attribute and that lack of it showed in our midfield last year…

    IMO

  160. QoS – depth is good for sure, I say keep the players, but add some to. Why not Melo and denilson, that would be a pretty tasty combo behind cesc, arshavin nasri for away games, keeping it solid. Honestly, melo looks like denilson will in a few years time to me. Bit bigger maybe, but very similar, denilson has the potential to pass the ball just as well and is more mobile. If we have the cash though, why not add.

  161. jonjon – flamini wasnt offered a new deal because the following year he refused to play full-back, so said wenger. Managers dont like that, he forced him to prove his worth rather than give him a new deal 2 years early. Back-fired, but only happened because flamini was a rat, which is the same way we got him and the same way he left. Missed as a player maybe, but not as a person.

  162. Watch the games again JonJon…Flamini was often caught out at LB….that’s not to minimise his part in a magnificent acheivement but it was obvious to most observers that he wasn’t an accomplished Left Back.

So at that point Wenger looks at him that summer and thinks…he’s not going to get in my squad as anything more than back up. 2nd or 3rd choice LB. 3rd choice for the DM midfield slot.

Then Gilberto goes to the Copa America, Diaby gets injured and suddenly third choice becomes first choice. He slotted into that midfield well and made the position his own.

It was a shame to lose him – but I can understand what the thinking was during the summer of 07. His 07/08 performances then earned him an offer of a new contract but he choose for several reasons to sign one with Milano instead.

I’d be interested in seeing the stats you quote about his workrate JJ because I have a feeling that Denilsons work rate isn’t far off…

  163. Neither Flamini nor Hleb were irreplacebale. The problem was that they ripped the heart out of a young side just as the confiedence was beginning to build. Their attitude though understandable financially was appalling. Good fucking riddance to both of them. They are history and will never be Arsenal legends. Diaby, Song and Denilson will become Arsenal legends.

  164. obviously not QOS..but he did the job…i cant see denilson song or diaby moving to LB and doing the same job do you??

  165. completely agree with that frank

  166. jonjon – we dont want them playing LB, that is irrelevant to, as we have clichy, gibbs, traore, vermaalen, gallas silvestre now who will all do that for us. Benefit of squad depth.

Those 3 are all quality players and are the future, but only 2 of them, maybe 1 depending on how you see denilson developing, are defensive minded – we need another player for that role.

  167. its not irrelvevant though AH

im making the point that flamini was a good player becuase no matter where he played he could do a job…..

what im saying is that if by some chance we needed diaby song or denilson to fill in at LB they wouldnt be able to do it… flamini was a better player than the other three and it showed last season

    IMO

  168. Its a very weak argument though JonJon.

“Flamini is a better DM than Diaby, Song and Denilson because none of those players can fill in at left back”

Not going to convince anyone with that.

    IMO

  169. I think you are clutching at straws, JonJon.

  170. The continuing attempts by certain fans to alienate Adebayor from our club, our most productive striker over the past three years, to in effect destabilize the team even before the 1st day of pre-season, tells a lot about the piss-poor supporter in our ranks. Rather than support the players who play for Arsenal, they join the commercial media and the enemies of the club to do every thing to weaken the team. Rather than celebrating the fact that the squad is maturing, growing in confidence and even better able to dominate the league, they spend hours manufacturing reasons to dislike Adebayor. Today it is Adebayor, tomorrow it may well be Cesc. Last year it was Eboue, Song and Denilson. Who next?

This blog plays an important role in trying to educate and inform the naive and the misled. But trolls like Jon-Jon who continue their campaign of destabilization deserve nothing but our contempt and ridicule.

  171. Strikers:

Arsenal: Ade, RVP, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela, Walcott

Chavski: Drogba, Anelka, Kalou, Di Santo, Stoch

Liverpool: Torres, Kuyt, Ngog, El Zhar, the Dutch boy

Man Poo: Rooney, Berbatov, Marcheda, Wellbeck

Best: Arsenal, Next Chavski, next Man Poo, next Liverpool.

    Midfield:

Arsenal: Fabregas, Rosicky, Arshavin, Nasri, Denilson, Diaby, Song, Ramsey

Chavski: Ballack, Essien, Lampard, Mikel, Malouda, Joe Cole, Belletti,

Man Poo: Scholes, Giggs, Carrick, Hargreaves (?), Nani, Tosic, Gibson, Fletcher, Park, Anderson

Liverpool; Rieira, Gerrard, Xabi Alonso, Mascherano, Leiva, Benayoun, Plessis….

Best: Chavski, next Man Poo, next Arsenal, next Liverpool

    Defenders:

Arsenal: Gallas, Toure, Clichy, Sagna, Eboue, Gibbs, Traore, Vermaelen, Djourou

Chavski: Cashley, Terry, Carvalho (?), Alex, Ivanovic, Mancienne, Ferreira, Bosingwa

Man Poo: Evra, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, O’Shea , Da Silva 1, Da Silva 2,

Liverpool: Skrtel, Arbeloa, Aurelio, Carragher, Agger, Insua

Winner: Harder to call than other categories. Man Poo, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool in that order I’d say.

Contrary to what people think we’re not very uncompetitive

  172. ArseChicago,

I think you just made my point for me, “throw in an older, more able midfielder”. I don’t actually want to sell any of the squad, I just think some of the players are a little inexperienced and that we could do with some older or at least more experienced/established heads. That’s not quite true, I am still unsure about Ade.

As an aside, one of the things Hleb did give us was a player who could run at people, strangely enough the only player in our current squad who can run at players well is Eboue. Shame he doesn’t know what to do next.

To add a little more fun to the Flamini arguement, was Wenger right to drop Flamini at LB for the unfit Cole in the CL final? Both of their late goals came from the left when Cole was obviously starting to feel the pace. Would a fully fit Cole have been stretched by an ageing Larson?

  173. sorry

flamini is a better midfielder then diaby song and denilson beacuse when he was a regular he helped us to finish 4 points off the title and was a perfect foil for cesc

when the others play cesc doesnt know what his position is and we end up 19points off the title

id reckon those straws are awfully big….

  174. “what im saying is that if by some chance we needed diaby song or denilson to fill in at LB they wouldnt be able to do it… flamini was a better player than the other three and it showed last season”

How do you know? Did you see them play there before?

Plus Song can play CB, Can Flamini?

  175. shotta gunna

    eh???

and doesnt shotta mean gangster….im lead to beleive it is….

we’ll leave that one there shall we gangster??

  176. I have to disagree with that JonJon. Time marches on. Flamini is not a better midfield player than any of our current options.

  177. You wll need to be wittier than that JonJon. Not clever enough to even raise a smile I am afraid.

  178. Flamini was a twat, but none of the current 3 young midfielders has played as well for us YET as flamini did season before last.

OLE – no way manure have the 2nd best midfield, 4th by a distance dude.

  179. song was shit at RB against everton G4E

i reckon he wouldnt be much better on his wrong side do you???

flamini can play CM can song???

  180. Are you this dull at home, JonJon?

  181. Torres is the world’s best striker. While they don’t have the depth of other squads, I’d rate them first for strikers as long as he’s starting upfront. Followed by Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Midfield: Sorry, you rate Liverpool and Gerrard fourth out of 4? That seems wrong. 2nd seems about right behind Chelsea. I’d put Arsenal/Man U even at third.

As for defense, I’d rate Arsenal 2nd, at worst tied with Chelski.

    Still, very competitive.

  182. arseneholis,

I’m taking it at face value. I actually agree that take Giggs, Scholes and Hargreaves (who might not play again) out of the equation, then you have Nani and Anderson who have failed to perform but have potential, and then you have donkeys like Fletcher and Park. Carrick is overrated but is a good squad player.

So I agree with you. On paper though, they get the full points though they dont deserve it.

  183. dont start frank….you do it everytime..

  184. Alonso, mascherano, gerrard is the best CM in the world. That gets broken up and i think they are nowhere near the same team.

  185. Start what, JonJon? You have just bored everyone wittless for the afternoon.

  186. For one game? Flamini didn’t have a nice time when he played left back, only after he played there for a few games…he got it.

    Song plays at CM?

If we are playing the ridiculous game, I’m really not good at that…So knock yourself out JonJon.

  187. We had a deal for Carrick sown up and for some reason we backed out and let him go to Spurs.

With hindsight, was that the right call or would a young Carrick have been a good buy?

  188. To counter that i’d say he was playing alongside an in form Cesc, Hleb and Rosicky for a good portion of that season.

But that’s not really the point, i wouldn’t argue that he didn’t perform exceptionally well that season, I would even accept the arguement that Cesc seemed to prefer playing alongside him – the point is that none of that had happenned in the Summer of 2007 which is why Wenger wasn’t in a rush to sign him to a new contract at that point.

  189. Frank, it seems you hit the spot there? :)

  190. i wouldnt say i have frank

almost every comment this afternoon has been directed at me

i would argue against your statement

  191. If Cesc plays at his best when he is comfortable alongside his midfield partner, isn’t it right that we find a new one for him to be comfortable with?

He certainly doesn’t seem to be completely comfortable with the current options.

  192. Oh for fucks sake you conceited stupid individual, JonJon.

  193. We had Carrick “in the wings” to replace Paddy…but he decided to stay which is why we didn’t take that option.

  194. Jon Jon its about time you be gone gone. There it also rhymed.

  195. There should’ve been a reality show, akin to ‘The Bachelor’ (do they have this in the UK?), where Cesc gets to pick one midfielder from 25 eligible midfield bachelors to commit to at Arsenal for the long-term. Each week, a few midfielders are given red cards and sent home, while the survivors live on another week. Hosted by charismatic TV personality, Emmanuel Eboue.

  196. Anyone else watching ATV? It’s the reserves demolition of Sheff U – man those goals make me smile. Vela’s second especially.

  197. Anyways…Now to more important things than gone gone.

I hope Walcott succeed today in the striker role. I personally think, this is his best position in the future. Currently with Arsenal, he gets more playing time + experience on the right wing, but eventually he should be used as a striker.

    Good Luck Theo..

  198. I wonder what Tony Adams thinks of Melo. Someone suggested Wenger uses Adams as a kind of anti-scout: if Adams disapproves of a potential transfer, it goes ahead; if Adams approves, it’s cancelled. Adams might have been a reasonable centre-back, but his understanding of modern football leaves a lot to be desired.

  199. Time to go home.

Good call Gunner4Ever, I’d love to see Theo do well in the CF spot. He has the ability to be a great player, but not a great winger.

    Night all!

  200. Polizano – lmao. Great defender, clueless old drunk now though.

We had edu, gilberto, parlour, and some dude called vieira when we were looking at carrick no?

  201. We all wish Jon Jon were Gone Gone.

  202. “Anyone else watching ATV? It’s the reserves demolition of Sheff U – man those goals make me smile. Vela’s second especially.”

I am too Steww and aren’t they great? People need to remember that when they are calling for this player and that player to come in.

  203. Flamini did provide great workrate and I’m not sure that physiolgically Song or Diaby can match that, maybe Denilson can.

however it is very easy to overestimate Flamini due to the differences between the 07/08 seasons and the 08/09 seasons. Our midfield was not only missing Flamini, but Hleb had left, Rosicky was injurred all season and Cesc missed a fair bit of the season, so at times we were playing without all 4 of our 1st choice 07/08 midfield.
Worse still AW would have considered our 1st choice midfield for 08/9 as something like Rosicky, Cesc, Diaby and Theo. Against Spurs away for example we had to play Eboue, Denilson Song and Nasri.
So in the scheme of things losing Flamini was a small part of the problem.

  204. Speculation or fantasizing about the personnel in our team is an excellent way to pass the time but invariably I have seen it degenerate both in the press and the blogs as a way in which certain parties with covert interests seek to unsettle players and destabilize teams. It happens to Arsenal every day. (Ade, Cesc come immediately to mine.) While I despise Donald Rumsfeld for everything he stands for, he made an infamous statement which rings true about Arsenal Football Club:
“…you go to war with the army you have—not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.” Unlike Rumsfeld, we are going to war with a team that Wenger has been tried and tested and needs only a couple of additions, not the distractions of the anti-goons.

  205. That’s a great quote Shotta and very apt for our team and our times.

  206. JohnN – last pre-season Denilson was the only Arsenal player to play 90 mins Sat & Sun. He also played the most games of any Arsenal player last season and he has not hit his physical peak yet.

  207. Passenal
I agree , Denilson looks the right size and shape to be able to run around all day.
It’s just that I haven’t seen any figures on ground covered, which is why I only said Denilson may be able to reproduce Flamini’s workrate.
I’m a great believer in measurable fact rather than personal opinion.

  208. As for the Rummy quote, most folks were angry with him for saying what he said because there was this unnecessary rush to war without making adequate preparations. As for Arsenal, most fans from the start of last offseason were clamoring for an experienced replacement to be Cesc’s partner in the middle. Clearly the offseason provides ample time to accomplish something like this, but it was not done. We all supported the “army” that was put out there, but what ultimately happened this past season was not too much of a surprise given what was not addressed going in.

  209. And we all now know, that there was no money to spend. So, I think Wenger did very well with what he had. Too much crying and too much drama…let’s move on. We will be much better than last year with the current squad, and we adding to it.

  210. We all move on, of course, but not blind to the past. But we are on here to talk about what we think should or hope to happen in the offseason, or about what we see happening once the season starts, right? Past is prologue, thus the mention of the season immediately prior to the one upcoming. If there was no money last year or no money this year, I agree, it won’t change our allegiances. No crime to make a Christmas wish list.

  211. JohnN,

I have some incomplete data on Denilson’s distance covered. In the Champions League games they often showed the distance covered per player, and Denilson was always 12-13KM each game.

It’s incomplete and anecdotal, and I cant lay my hands on the actual data

  212. Hope Santa comes down the chimney for you this year ArseChicago :)

(Hope he knows to come before august transfer deadline though, or he will be too late)

  213. OG
    Thks
When Flamini won a charity comp for greatest distance run on a particular premiere league weekend the distance was just over 13k, so looks looks like Denilson very similar to Flam

  214. Morning afternoon all!

But it made no sense for Arsene to buy a replacement for Flamini when he had Song, Diaby and Denilson.

Have we forgotten that Flamini had only one stand out season with Arsenal and that is after getting experience from the precious year.

Have we forgotten that Denilson and Diaby were on there way to being brilliant players before injury hampered their growth.

Have we forgotten that this is really their first full year in the PL as far as playing regulary?

Song is a beast of a player who many people thought should be sold and is quite good in defence also!

Its ok with me that Arsene didnt buy a DM as the experience of this year will be invaluable for the players next season.

  215. If Santa doesn’t come down, I hope it’s Megan Fox.

  216. Paulie Walnuts

    ArseChicago
`Flamini’s importance, while likely overstated, was more his fire, intensity, and attitude. Players play off of guys like him and Denilson, Diaby, Song et al couldn’t claim to provide those intangibles`

Agreed & true – but Denilson, Diaby & Song are all still developing & can add those to their game whilst Flamini will always be limited.

  217. “but Denilson, Diaby & Song are all still developing & can add those to their game whilst Flamini will always be limited.”

Great point Paulie! cant really see Flamini becoming any better than he is and dont think he will ever reach the level he did at Arsenal either.

  218. Who was Flamini????

  219. The guy that had the Superman logo on his shirt instead of “Fly Emirates” Duke

  220. Of Denilson, Song and Diaby, I’d say Diaby’s the most gifted. That being said, Denilson and Song each work much harder than Diaby. While it’s great to have young players of this caliber on the squad, the fact is none of these kids could’ve started next to Gerrard or Lampard, or supplanted Fletcher or Scholes on Man U. In all fairness, Flamini might not have supplanted the starters on any of those teams either. But as I said earlier, I saw Flamini’s intangibles to be his biggest contribution to the squad. In much the same way Scholes or Fletcher or Essien does for their teams. Heck, I think the criticism of Arsene going into last year would’ve been half what it was had he simply kept Gilberto. The fact that he got rid of him should’ve been a sign that Wenger was dead set on getting the kids in there now. And I hope that experience they all got last year will prove valuable this year and beyond. The question remains, at least to me, will Song or Denilson help Cesc make midfield a valuable asset or will they merely make it less a liability than it seemed at times last year?

  221. Queen of Suburbia

Flamini once bodyslammed Andre The Giant in front of 93000 people in the Pontiac Silverdome.

  222. Queen of Suburbia

Flamini is the highest selling musical artist in N Korea.

  223. Queen of Suburbia

Flamini is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head.

  224. Flamini doesn’t always drink beer, but when he does, he drinks Dos Equis.

  225. Pz, does Megan Fox come under the reptillian face women?

  226. Queen of Suburbia

Flamini hunts all his own food. In the Bronx.

  227. Queen of Suburbia

Flamini’s sweat is the secret ingredient in Coke Cola.

  228. So, it’s not working for England so far?

  229. The same Flamini who can divide by zero?

Some people wear Superman shirt. Superman wears Flamini’s shirt.

  230. the kids are struggling against the germans…shame really…it would have been nice for them to have won it…still…plenty of time left yet….

  231. It was crackers that no one came into replace , Gilberto and Diarra…. We were FORCED to rely on Denilson and Song coz Wenger didnt get the players(s) he wanted for whatever reason… Most probably a lack of funds….

Because of that, we were never goin to sustain any sort of title challenge, IMO… But because of it, we have seen the huge development in Song (particulalry for me) and Denilson…

Diaby doesnt really feature in this argument as he is a very different player and I sont just mean, injury prone..

  232. But that was then, this is now…

And England have gone 2 down now…

  233. i know spike…..i agree with all of that mate

  234. Real Mad say they’ve sold 2000 Kaka shirts in one week. At the height of the Kaka hype they’ve sold 2000. If the hype held (it’s very unlikely it will), then they’d sell 100,000 this year. Since They only get like €10 per shirt they’ll make €1 Million from Kaka shirts this year,

Only 60 years to go to make back the Kaka money!

  235. Paulie Walnuts

We don`t know what went on last summer after AW decided to release Gilberto. He may have been close to bringing in someone Inler / Alonso / Barry) but for whatever reason it didn`t happen.

Cesc`s average form & injury just exacerbated the light midfield but all the players mentioned who stepped in will be better for that experience next season.

  236. ArseChicago, no they wont, denilson and song are good one game, dogshite the next. They seem to be getting more inconsistent. Wait till we get a real player like Melo in the position and watch the difference. Just like the difference when we bought a real talent like Arshvin, he turned out to be one of our players of the year and he only played half the season

  237. I didn’t hear Walcott’s name for over 60 minutes now…is he still playing?

  238. we definately need more presence in the central midfield area tommy i agree with that…

an arshavin type signing in there and we’ll be alot stronger for it….squad depth is the name of the game nowadays..we seem to lack it slightly in this area

  239. why is it that everything falls on the DM spot, why may I ask? the only reason why everyone is saying that was the problem is because that was the only spot that changed. why are they the scapegoat?

Its a team sport, Cecs did not play no where near how he played last season, but thats Denilson’s fault surely.

  240. Tommy, I was in the camp of putting more of a veteran next to Cesc last year and I’m still in that camp. Can’t let the optimism that builds up over the offseason make me forget the very frustrating spurts of bad passes and failures to create by the midfield. We’ll see what happens. As always, I’ll support whoever we have there. Night all.

  241. Flamini was a veteran?

  242. Veteran in Money Arts

  243. I guess he was but only produced for one season as a DM.

  244. Germany is mashin up England 3-0

  245. flamini was a workhorse….a vital cog in the ‘team’…

he did the donkey work and allowed cesc rosicky and hleb to play the pure beautiful football they did

we no longer have that type of player and flamini is missed..definatley…

  246. exactly, he is only older but hasnt done much in his career.

  247. dont sound so happy about it paulN

  248. Bye Bye U21…Good job they reached the final, it’s Wenger’s fault they didn’t win it though.

  249. As soon as we watched Arshavin for the first game you remembered what you’ve been missing. Denilson, Diaby, Song, Eboue, Bendtner, Silvestre, are not telented enough. I dont even see Wigan trying to buy them

  250. I notice thers alot of anti-english on this website. Arsene fans, not Arsenal fans

  251. Should I be sad about it, I am just stating a fact, there was no emotional things about it.

    4-0 now.

  252. “I notice thers alot of anti-english on this website. Arsene fans, not Arsenal fans”

    Fucking retarded comment.

  253. Paul N,
The midfield in general has been criticized, rightly, for far too many bad passes and its lack of creative ability this past season. Ade’s form, I think, was a lot his fault, but we had a very long stretch of the season where we had Denilson and Song in charge of getting the ball to the wings and strikers. When our opponents pressed our midfield, we clearly had trouble making passes and setting up scores. Fact is our goal differential was +31 this past year, versus +43 the prior year, and we just couldn’t score enough (though we had only 6 fewer league goals this past year). In addition to Song and Denilson, we can also point to injuries as a scapegoat, we can point to Nasri not having enough experience with the players he plays next too, we can point to Theo sometimes disappearing for long stretches of the game, etc. So have at it.

  254. Paul N, dont lie you’re loving it. What country are you from?

  255. Oneofus, Are you retarded?

  256. “Denilson, Diaby, Song, Eboue, Bendtner, Silvestre, are not telented enough. I dont even see Wigan trying to buy them”

aah forget it! not worth it at all

  257. ok ok im sick of all this flamini had one good season shit….flamini had several good seasons as a squad player in numerous positions and then had a great season in his natural position….

i dont understand how some fans can write a good player off so quickly and say he had only one good season

on the other hand adebayor did have one good season and everyone fucking adores him…..

theres quite alot of gooners out there pleading for flamini to come back and couldnt give a shove whether ade stayed…

im beginning to think some people on this blog dont have a clue what they are talking about…seriously…some of it is laughable..

flamini had one good season and ade didnt is one of the top comedy lines ever… ever…

  258. Paul N,

You asked why it’s all always on the DM spot..

    BIAS.

You conclude and then substitute your conclusion for observation.

It works like this: We didn’t get a defensive midfielder. Any problems in the team are thus caused by not having a defensive midfielder. Thus anybody playing in defensive midfield is poor. Thus anyone else playing in central midfield can not be to blame.

  259. The england team did briliantly with the resorces availible. Theo never gets to play up front so needs tim to get back into it. He should definitely start before Bentdner who is dogshite

  260. Wasnt just the DM role tho was it? We lost 3/4 of the midfield, thanks to the Cornetto Kid and Falm leaving us for pastures green(back) and Rosicky not recovering…. That added to Cesc not playing well for whatever reason (having to cover for his inexperienced CM partners? Loss of form? Tiredness? Moon not being in Uranus? Who can say…. All in all there was a lot that changed in the midfield, so it was not surprising things werent working well and thats not even discussing the seeming ability to bother to turn up for those early games v Fulham, Hull etc….

But having all that happen and NOT signing a Flamini?Gilberto/Diarra replacement, added to a difficult situation, IMO…

Maybe some people are being overly simplistic and putting ALL on Flamini? I dunno, but as I said, thats history now and we should be looking forward, not backward….

  261. I was born in England but living in the US, so dont jump the gun.

11 Leatherhead Close, Holmleigh Road Estates, London, England N16

    How about that!

  262. Hackney that is

  263. By the way…F*ck Flamini, he’s a f*cking liar who said he’ll stay and he didn’t, he went after the money…so f*ck off any one who supports the tosser.

We made him what he is, when the tosser left after money..we had to make another, in fact we made two in Denilson & Song. The liar needed three years to be something, we should give Denilson & Song the same amount of time.

Can we f*cking forget about the lying tosser?

  264. Tommy;

Maybe Wigan dont want em, but AC Milan, Bayern, etc do….

  265. JonJOn, they only hear what they want and they hide behind the most ridiculous excuses, it is funny to read and very entertaining because they honestly think the good for the club even though I’d bet that they’ve never been to one game in there entire lives

  266. Spike, Who do Bayern and AC Milan want?

  267. exaclty OG, how silly can that be.

Spike id you now it there is more that one reason why keep jumping on the DM position, that is Bias as OG says.

“But having all that happen and NOT signing a Flamini?Gilberto/Diarra replacement, added to a difficult situation, IMO…”

But the players we have now are just as talented or even more than those who left? maybe not as experienced but isnt that what this past season is?

  268. spike?

  269. hahaha spike the cornetto kid….

tommy…some of the bloggers on here are actually quite reasonable…but theres a handful of them who fit the description of what you say….its that handful that tend to be the most insulting

    go figure…

  270. Paul N, do you think Denilson and song could of played left back as well as Flamini did? The answers no. Then he played DM twice as good as they have so don tak crap about them being just as talented because there not. And sont say ‘but next year’ because next year hsn’t happened yet. So far they aint done shit

  271. Flamini’s other seasons, JonJon, were seasons like Eboue, Walcott, Diaby, Song, Denilson etc have had. You’re being disingenious to pretend he’d played at remotely the same level before 07/08.

We lost the U-21 Final. What a team of artisans. I hope Patrick aka Howard was watching. Walcott is not ready to play striker. Muamba is a tenth of the player Denilson is.

Stuart Pearce hasn’t done a good job I’m afraid, but he’ll get a pass from me because he’s at least cared about developing youth.

He selected the muscular players. At youth level, what matters is technique. Think Barcelona not Bolton.

  272. There were many causes why the team didnt play as well and I think the biggest is what Wenger said, that last season affected the team more than he thought. Anyway, lets have some equity with the blame, if blaming is what we are going to do instead of looking to the future.

  273. Tommy;

Bayern and Milan have enquired about Bendtner… He is a quality player, if you cant or refuse to see that,. then I cant be bothered discussing it with you…
    PaulN;

IMO, Song and Deniulson were NOT ready last season, they improved a lot as the season wore on, BUT that was only becuase they played a shit load more games than their tender years and ineperience warranted….

Look, I wanna move on here, you keep dragging it back…. So where to next?

  274. PaulN

diaby song and denilson are not as talented as gilberto flamini or hleb…

we came within four points of the league with the latter…we came 19 points off with the former…

    your arguement holds no water

  275. Spike, Bendner has more heart then Adebeyor I’ll give you that but he’s an average striker. Crouch or Martins could do the same job that Bendner does

  276. JonJon,

Gilberto, Vieira must be crap since they finished 19 points off the pace once. We were lucky to even make Champs League that season.

Silly argument but not sillier than yours.

  277. the thing is ole is that if walcott isnt ready to be a striker then what do we do with him because he isnt exactly the best of wingers either

when rosicky comes back and with AA and nasri theo will be fourth choice wide man

and with rvp nikki ade and dudu uptop theo will not be first choice striker

so what do we do with a 60k a week player who maybe sat on the bench most games and doesnt know his best position???

  278. Crouch is how old? Martins is 43 I do know that tho!

Bendy, after a inconsistent start, has shown a fuckin enormous improvement IMO, he is skillful and can only get better….

Mate, you will deffo changew your tune on him, I am tellin ya!

  279. Ole Gunner, but the football still looked sublime. The football last year for long periods was like paint dry. Side to side to side to side to side

  280. Tommy, do you think Cesc could play left back well? who would you prefer to have on your team, him or Flamini? please enlighten me.

Flamini may be more of a jack of all trades but that does not make him a better player than Denilson.

I dont think Henry would be a good left back either. talk to me.

Spike, since they have gotten better that is a sign of good but the problem is the “supporters” have not seen or refuse to see the improvement and are still going on about the players even for next season. Many just want someone to come in and take Denilson’s and Song’s place in the team.

I look to the future and the fact is there were many problems according to your statement so to keep jumping on one problem is a joke. Lets talk about Cesc for a minute, why not?

  281. JonJon, yes they are.

  282. No jonjon, you are right, they are more talented than them.

  283. i like nikki, his finishing is abit suspect but he has all the other attributes to be a top top player…dont forget he’s only 21 and he hit the same amount of goals ade did last season and he is fourth choice…i would prefer him to ade any day of the week

nikki sorts his finishing out and we have one hell of a striker on our hands

  284. JonJon;

Maybe I am wrong here, but from what AW was sayin about changing the formation next season to suit the players we have (AND he used Theo as a specific example here) I think we will be playing 4-2-3-1

Which would allow the players like Nasri, Theo, Bendy, RvP, AA, Rosicky, Vela, Wilshire to play just behind a lone frontman (Eduardo, Ade, Eto’o, Villa, Benzema….)

  285. “diaby song and denilson are not as talented as gilberto flamini or hleb…”

What kind of a freaking comparison this is? Apart from Flamini – who’s not talented by the way, he just runs a lot – Hleb & Gilberto had years and years of playing time as regulars.

Denilson and Song are taking the first steps of their career.

Your argument is with Wenger for allowing so young players to play in Midfield. They’ve done very very well for their age.

    You’re just full of it.

  286. Anyway Denilson, Diaby and Song did not replace Hleb and Nasri for my money is a better player.

  287. thats it G4Em they want the youngsters to be crushed by some “experienced player”, Well where the hell did Flamini get his experience from – ARSENAL!!!!!!

Tommy, you asked me what country I came from and never responded?

  288. drop the m!

  289. who are you talking to G4E…i have no arguement with wenger..i havent mentioned wenger once…

i simply stated that i agree with spike that it was ridiculous that we let 4 midfielders go and we brought in one to replace them and used the youth team to replace the rest…

diaby isnt talented…skillful yes but hes really stupid and he’ll never make it…

denilson and song have a long way to go they are nowhere near the talent that gilberto or flamini had…which is what somebody stated on here…i was disagreeing

so why are you putting words into my mouth???

maybe because you dont know what your talking about???

    i think it is…

  290. JonJon,

That’s what Walcott should be I’m afraid. 4th choice wide man.

The young fellow has to learn to be comfortable with the ball at his feet. He has to learn to beat his man without pace. And to cut inside sometimes.

It’s like the converse of what Wenger said about Nasri. Wenger says Nasri has to learn to beat his man with his pace. Nasri knows he can beat his man anyway, and doesn’t then put the ball on the run, beat his man, and cross.

  291. i agree with both ole and spike on theo….

i dont think he’ll be more than a sqaud player next season anyway…an impact player from the bench

  292. How can you say that song and Denislon have nowhere near the talent of Gilberto and Flamini?

Boy Arsenal fans are a trip! no one was particular about Henry until last season, we didnt care if he left or stayed and many people didnt care about Gilberto either and I remember fans calling him crap.

    Believe that!

  293. I actually think Walcott never got his confidemce back after the CL Semi, he can learn but a confident Walcott has proved to be a menace time and time again.

  294. I think Theo was showing real improvements early this season, then he went and got injured… Its funny how people can remember all about Flamini, but cant rememeber the top shit Theo was doin back in Autumn 08!

  295. particular about “Flamini”!

    how did Henry get there?

  296. Spike, even when Theo came back from injury this year he was doing great. What I see from Theo is that when he loses his confidence he seems to try to hard and instead of playing within the game with his team he tries to hard to do something speacial.

Special talent, who will gain his confidence back, he is nothing regular at all, unlike Flamini, ha!

  297. Who the fook was the U21 keeper tonight? Now he WAS shite!

  298. Spike, Theo doesn;t seem to get the support from the club as some of the other players. He deserves a run up front

  299. JonJon, that’s exactly what I’m saying and you still don’t get it.

Don’t blame the young players, basically your gripe is with Wenger for not replacing Flamini the Great with another equally awesome one.

Denislon & Song done very well for their age and the amount of time on the pitch. Diaby, you can’t really measure since he never played as a regular in his preferred spot, and was always played on the left.

What’s this un relented attack on players coming from, I mean what the hell, probably Man United, Chelsea, and Liverpool fans are twiddling their thumbs since you – supposedly Arsenal fans – are doing their job.

All what left now for you to do, is attend the games waving the opposition flags…right Tommy? You probably would.

  300. Gunner4ever, everything you say is stupid, ha ha ha

  301. Y.W. How the hell can we have a poster on your blog who calls members of the team we support “dog shite”? This is not fredom of the press, right to one’s own opinion etc, this is plain abuse.

Tommy needs an anti-Arsenal website, not ACLF.

  302. Theo will get his chances upfront. He’s not ready yet though. That’s obvious.

  303. G4E;

I think now, more than ever, fans will rail against players at the meerest hint of a poor performance…. Refusing to recognise any improvements and merely watching games to see a bad pass, skewed shot etc, so they can confirm in their minds the fact that player is shite, while at the same time, excusing mistakes by their favourites…

I think, before, the tinternet, 24 hour sports coverage and news and effin radio phone ins (the haven for the media fed sheep and social inadequate), plazyers were not jumped on as quickly as they are now, well, not at Arsenal anyways…

Even players that were deemed not good enough, were cheered, maybe ironically, but it was done with a bit more humour and, as long as they gave 1–%, every else was forgiven…

BUT, that was when we werent expected to challenge every year, that, in itself has added fuel and anger to the fire, IMO…

  304. Bloody Germans.

  305. played well didnt they duke? they were deadly on the counter once the boyz had to chase the match.

  306. Fuck sake, what chance have we got to keep things together when you got the likes of man City allegedly offering players £250k a week???

    That is beyond obscene…

  307. well, we should start spending, all the other clubs are…

  308. Like Chrisgoona said earlier, please ignore Gone Gone. Debating with him is the single most futile activity in the world. Hitting one’s head against a brick wall is an infinitely more pleasant experience.

  309. Frank's biggest fan

Quite rightly Theo will be a supersub as a striker/right winger. He has to improve a lot. The beauty of this Arsenal squad is its depth in attacking options, hence why it will give Theo time and competition to become better!

  310. Franks biggest fan, Theo needs to play up front all the time. He’s not a winger and noot as talented as Henry to pull it off. He’s a michael Owen style striker who would score hatfulls given the chance. He deserves his chance because some of Bendtners and Adebeyors performances this year have been abosolute dogshite

  311. Whats this crap I’m hearing about Arshavin?

  312. Frank's biggest fan

    That’s just IT. C.R.A.P

  313. We need Arshavin, we need him bad

  314. Tommy are you on a wind up mission here or are you actually serious?

  315. Why do some people on here attack peoples characters instead of talking about football and football players?

Alex, of course I’m serious. If Arshavin leaves we are in big trouble i’m sure you’ll agree

  316. When this imaginary attack on your character was I would’nt know but anyway..

Tommy, do you seriously believe the story the media has spun about Arshavin? You seem incredibly naive.

  317. Alex, I love the way you make out you dont attack peoples personal characters one sentence, then go and do exactly that in your next season.

If Arshavin does leave we will be in trouble because he saved us last year. He balanced out the dogshite

  318. Tommy, if you believe the Arshavin story you must also then believe that Cesc will leave, as will Van Persie, Clichy and Sagna. I love the way you believe everything you read.

  319. I do not believe that Sagna, Clichy or Cesc (yet) eill leave, but I dont trust RVP or Arshavin. We need to keep them two becuase without them our team will be dogshite

  320. Tommy = Arse21

  321. Tommy, breaking news in The Sun:

“Real madrid have decided that instead of individually buying half the Arsenal squad and then luring its manager, buying the whole club will work out cheaper. Madrid have lodged a 700 million pound bid for Arsenal – a price they believe would be sufficient for the board and Uzbek hardman Usmanov to sell up and ride into the sunset.”

  322. Oh great Poliziano is here. This’ll be funny – not

  323. If Arshavin left I would cry into my pillow. Him and RVP are the only players that cesc can do some world class passing with. Denilson is good at passing as long as he folow the white lines on the pitch, Denilson is like a machine that can onlyu move along the white lines on the pitch. Thats also why he’s so shite in the air because he’s stuck to th white lines. Dogshite.

  324. i agree with you there tommy…

we dont have enough players in the squad who can play wengerball…..

one of the main reasons why cesc wasnt on fire last season is becuase he had nobody to play wengerball with….hleb had gone, rosicky was injured and AA arrived too late

with AA and rosicky in the team from the start next year should be a different story

  325. As a precaution I thnk we should keep Rocisky in a specially designed incubator at the Emirates. We could stand it up so he could watch the game and then unleash him when necessary

  326. Tommy, if Arshavin is insulting us fans like this by stating that he wants to play for another team wouldn’t it be wise if we let this little swine leave, along with Cesc of course.

  327. BarneyStinson, I know what you mean. Arshavin may have said this once but Cesc has definitely said it about ten times and then gone ‘I didn’t mean it like that I swar’ ‘I love arsene….I mean Arsenal’

You are correct about that barney but Arshavin story needs to be proven first in case its dogshite. I wish the dogshite players said these silly thing instead of our best players.

  328. i think the AA story has been dragged up from last year….

    dont worry

  329. I don’t know where you both think you are. coming on here calling our players dogshite, insulting Arsenal fans just because they can’t get to a game at the Emirates and generally being onnoxious.

This is a site for Arsenal fans. Try somewhere else.

  330. Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting. I’ll definitely be coming back to your site.
