Another Spanish Inquisition

A day when the Spanish will no doubt be launching another Inquisition with the media playing the role of Tomás de Torquemada as they seek out the root of evil that forced them to lose to the USA. In the meantime, several self-appointed Torquemada’s will no doubt appear amongst The Emirates faithful as Cesc gave honest answers to questions put to him by the same media yesterday.

With little else going on, sensationalism has been the name of the game. Most opt for the route that Cesc is touting his wares for his home market. Frankly, I do not see any ‘Hello boys, come and get me‘ flirting in the direction of Madrid or Barcelona by Fabregas.

Actually, what did emerge is the picture of a player with a strong desire to win and who whilst he respects his manager, does not see their futures as interdepended:

I admire Arsene Wenger but each of us has his own life and looks after his own interests. If I have to say I want to leave I will do it face to face. If one day I’m not happy, I am the first who will tell the manager

His answer to the question of how his family would react to his signing for Madrid indicated that their love for their son/brother/nephew/grandson/uncle would override the tribal loyalties that the journalist in question was digging at.

Quite simply, the question was posed to try to eliminate Madrid as a destination for those reasons. OK, they were hoping for a slip of the tongue to suggest that Madrid has contacted him as part of Los Galaticos but the snippet was never uttered.

The player’s frustration about not winning trophies is nothing new. He has vented these feelings before and will do so again in the future until a piece of silverware is nestling in his bank safety deposit box. It shows nothing more than an inherent desire to win. If there are any players at the club who do not share such anger at not winning trophies, they need to develop the same intensity. It is hard to believe that Wenger would not have already have weeded them out in any case.

There appears little in anything Cesc said, nothing that is new nor unexpected. The only reason that it has been reported is that there is so little going on elsewhere. Mind you, anger is contagious amongst the squad since Theo wants to prove Stuart Pearce wrong for dropping him to the subs bench. Quite right too since if it did not provoke this reaction, questions would be asked about his motivation for playing for the Under 21′s.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. Good perspective on the comments Yogi.

I’d have been far more worried if Cesc had said, i’m not really bothered about trophies!

  2. I would like to know where this came from????

I have checked all the spanish press, no mention. How did the sun get this interview before them if he is away with spain?

He mentions madrid, but none of the madrid press carry the story today and my mate who is a member of the club and always up on the news/rumours said it was news to him.

  3. ole

your using the media to argue the case against the media????? wtf

how do you know courbis comments arent twisted?????

nah mate not slow…just not that stupid…

i dont care what the media say…but ive heard ade talk shite form his own gob….therefore no i dont give a toss whats wrote about him because for all i know he could of started it….

  4. The player’s frustration about not winning trophies is nothing new. He has vented these feelings before and will do so again in the future until a piece of silverware is nestling in his bank safety deposit box.

    top top comment YW

    my sentiments exactley…

  5. Y do all newspapers hate Arsenal??

  6. JonJon,

I care about the media publishing falsehood as truth. We simply can’t have that.

    That is the issue here.

And dont be so silly. If Adebayor did not say he wants to work with Ancelotti, he shouldn’t be reported as having said so.

  7. I don’t know whether man utd fans abuse the lesser Ronaldo, but by all accounts a lot of them dislike him, and are glad he is leaving. Everyone associated with man utd is an arsehole, and one might suppose that an arsehole would admire a greater arsehole. The opposite, though, seems to be true. A man who (objectively speaking) is an arsehole is liked by similar arseholes, and in fact not considered an arsehole at all; but a greater arsehole is still an arsehole, and is hated, albeit that the hatred might be attributed to envy rather than the distaste that others feel.

  8. arseneholis, the interview if from Marca. Here’s the original interview. You can read it yourself. the sun mixed two separate interviews in Marca. Here they are:

  9. My interpretation of Cesc’s last sentence as you quoted it, YW, is quite simply that if he wanted to leave the manager would be the first to know. Not the press and media or indeed another club, but his manager. Furthermore I would interpret that as ‘I am certainly not intending to leave at this point in time’. Excellent. Nothing has changed. Cesc is still with us and will be for the foreseeable future.

  10. I would not be at all surprised if you have to put up with Ade for another season at least, JonJon.

  11. on a more positive note great to see gibbs get a new contract. What a feeling to know you are going to be a milllionaire by your early 20′s.

ive seen play a few positions but ive heard he is very suited to a central midfield role. has anyone seem him play in this role, if so whats his game like there?

  12. but ole mate…thats life….thats football….

manutd have had the same problems all season with ronaldo and tevez…

    liverpool with alonso

thats what the media do mate…stop crying when it happens to us and get over it…

as far as ade and his agent are concerned…i dont normally believe the media…but in this case i dont dis-believe them…and theres nobody else to blame for that than ade….

  13. This is how I see it at the moment.

I don’t think newspapers hate Arsenal. They all have websites which are making a massive loss right now.

The publishers need to recoup some of that money.

Arsenal fans are impatient and uppity after 4 years with no bragging rights. We’re an easy target, and will sure as hell click on a story about the club – especially if it involves a transfer or something negative about our players. More traffic means more money from adclicks.

    A side note.

The Independent is in real trouble at the moment – there are rumours that it could close down very soon. It’s no coincidence that recently their website has a new “Top 10″ of everything every day, as well as a crazy amount of headlines with the word “sex” in the title. They desperately need traffic for their website, and people click on that stuff.

I think QoS knows more about all this

  14. Quite happy with him playing down the left, geeGunner. He is a good left back at the top level and I would not be surprised if he makes a great left winger at the top level. Gives us options occasionally.

  15. YW,

Why is my comment in moderation?

  16. I have to say I can live with the poisonous comments of the press and media, they are very predictable. What mystifies me is that Arsenal supporters would want to believe the negatives so readily.

  17. Haha – “uppity”?! That’s not what I meant – “fussy” is more like it. I can’t type and think at the same time.

  18. as long as he spends most of it on the bench frank i dont care.. lol

  19. OG

Probably due to two links in the comment. WordPress identifies spam as being a high probability when there are two or more links.

    YW

  20. Just read the other thread, genuinely bizarre that this is a twist of yesterdays story in spain, creating news in england, but there is not even a mention in todays press. It must be a real big issue, a tidal wave in this summer’s news.

Whilst out asking around about this story – no one even mentioned it was from yesterdays paper, didnt pay it much attention i guess – heard this rumour:

If barca can agree a deal for mascherano they will sell us Toure. Seem t think out here that is our first choice, Melo or anyone else is a back-up option.

  21. So Gibbs is going to be competing with Vermaelen for a place in central midfield next season?

  22. Frank @ High Noon

    Exactly.

    YW

  23. Cheers frank.

Ive read on young guns that he is very good centrally and some seem to think that that is where he will end up when fully developed. add to that he has played there for his country and scored playing that position recently.
Its great that we have so many players that can play multiple positions. theo, vela wing/striker denilison cdm/cam, nasri, arshavin (everywhere bar defence) it helps to keeping our football smooth and fluid and tactically confuse the hell out of opposition

  24. Yep instead of 4-3-3 or 4-2-4 we are going 0-10-0. Saves a lot of time with numbers and stuff and it makes the pre-match talks easier. When they have the ball, tackle em…and we have the ball, score.

  25. All the talk of players leaving – i hope we keep everyone – made me wonder. Where do you all think we would have finished last season if arshavin had been with us from day 1????

So many draws he might have turned, the confidence he could have bought, plus a ton of goals if you average out what he got whilst he was there for a season.

  26. Oh I like that…’Frank @ HighNoon’….how fucking sexy is that….

  27. It will be interesting to see how many goals Arshavin gets. Last season, he got 6 in 16 games. Impressive. Four of those, however, were in one game, so he got 2 in the other 15. Less impressive.

  28. YW, you quoted Cesc as saying;

“I admire Arsene Wenger but each of us has his own life and looks after his own interests. If I have to say I want to leave I will do it face to face. If one day I’m not happy, I am the first who will tell the manager”

    BUT

it’s actually two separate resposnses to two separate questions-

Cesc was asked; “Q: But you can live without Cesc Wenger? Do you bind your future to his for always?

A: If he will not have to go, nor vice versa. He is a very important person, whom I consider a second father. He has helped and trained me. He has made me captain of Arsenal at 22 years. He has given me everything. As a person I rate him as a ten and I respect, appreciate and follow his advice because he transmits confidence. He is a coach is yet someone you can talk to if you have a family problem. I admire him, but each has his life and look for your interest.

The part about “If I have to say to him that I want to go I will do it face-to-face and not using the press. If one day I am not happy I will be the first to tell the manager” was a response to the hypothetical question of whether he would pull a Robinho and force a move away.

And you’re right that he’s essentially saying he’s staying. But you’re wrong to use those quotes as published in the sun.

  29. It was 6 in 12 PL games Polizano, that whilst he was getting to know the team, style, and league. Seems odd, as not many get 4 in a game (anfield to), that this should be seen as a question mark.

With him we surely would have been much closer last year, probably started with more confidence to. Bearing that in ind, how much does the side really need now bar a holding player and to keep everyone else.

Plus Cesc, Ade, Rosicky, Eduardo will almost certainly provide more than they did last year, Clichy to.

  30. arseneholis,

La Marca has published an article based on the Sun story which was based on the original Marca interview.

Now the sun would wait a month and of course write another story about the Marca story.

    It’s dizzying to watch……

  31. There,at least someone has something between the ears. Over-interpretation. Of course the kid is frustrated not winning anything. But should all that up to the club or he has a part to play in that failure? I bet he realise that but our lovely journo never ask that coz all they want is to show that Arsenal is a sinking ship and players are leaving.

Many of these journos support teams that outspent us and have nothing to show for that money. Spurs and Pool come to mind in that regard. Go on Arsene, bring in that tough tackling turk- Tasci to pair with Vermaelen. Hopefully Melo will come to partner Cesc and we’ll be fine

  32. player of the yr 2009/10

    arshavin!

    you heard it here first

    prem lg winner – arsenal!
    runners up – chelsea
    turd – man poo

    champs lg – arsenal?

fa cup/ carlin cup – arsenal?

  34. Chicken Tikka Masala

QoS says JonJon what did Adebayor do?

well last summer ur reaction to Ade transfer saga can be summarised in this comment u made on the ‘devil’s’ forum

    Queen of Suburbia Says:
    July 17, 2008 at 17:57

I’m so thoroughly depressed with this pre-season.

A couple of things occured to me with the Hleb deal – it surely means we aren’t getting Toure and/or E’to and it probably means we aren’t getting shot of Adebyewhore either. Otherwise all that activity would have been done at the same time wouldn’t it?

I face the prospect of booing an Arsenal player this season and I never thought that would happen.

I might cheer myself up by being the second lady to join the fantasy football league.

a lil typo with his name was it?

    Hypocrite

  35. He’ll leave at some point, but more likely to be to Barca as a replacement for Xavi in 2/3 years time.

    http://footballsnob.wordpress.com/

  36. Well said Cesc

Too many Arsenal players are happy to pick up large wages and not win trophies.

  37. OLE – no one over here gave a fuck about the story that i spoke to. Marca run about 15 rumours a day on madrid and cesc and wenger to madrid was a staple from about december onwards so i think they are all bored of it.

The whole thing is typical newspaper bollocks filling summer pages whilst wimbledon heats up and they can rave on murray.

Arsenal need 1 more player, no one to leave. Thus far every reliable word has seemed to say exactly that. Forget agents, ade, cesc, clichy, wenger have all said the squad will stick together and they will be here next year. Good, lets hope we can get a quality ball-winner to give all our brilliant attacking and young players a solid base. This far the rest of the top 4 seem to be regressing whilst we get stronger, lets hope it holds.

  38. Thank God the sun decided to write crap about cesc and not Ade bcoz cesc is untouchable in almost all goonerz eyes, ade on the other hand would have been crucified 4 a false story.sad bt true.

  39. YW and all,

I cannot open the second article so my comment is really a call for clarity.

I agree about the misquotes and typical negative media interpretations but what about the comments regarding his colleagues? The Telegraph claims he made an very negative comparison in stating:

“It’s difficult to explain how good the camaraderie is in the Spain team. I am now at Arsenal, where there isn’t this social group which is so human, so friendly, a group of normal people like my friends and we don’t talk about things too much.”

    Any views/clarification really welcome

  40. Arshavin has never scored a massive number of goals. I expect he’ll manage better next season than 1 in 7, but probably less than 2 in 5. His number of assists is very impressive, comparable to Fabregas’s. Since he was not fully fit during his first games for us, and since he will be more accustomed to our game next season, I expect him to do even better next season.

  41. OG

That quote comes from the Daily Telegraph…

    YW

  42. arsenalised,

Sad but true. What can you do except hope Ade proves his doubters wrong and makes it impossible for them to exercise their often extreme prejudices against him: although I think hell freezing over might occur before they change in attitude or desire to express it:~(

  43. I doubt Arshavin will score as many goals, game for game, as RvP, Adebayor, Eduardo, or Bendtner, but he could contribute as much to our attack overall as any of them.

  44. Dgob

    It depends on your interpretation.

For example, say you work for a multinational company, spend a lot of your time in one office but work occasionally in another.

Perhaps the first office is abroad and the second is at home and contains some people that you have known for most of your working career. It is only natural for you to feel perhaps more energised about the second office since you may feel that the company of fellow countrymen reminds you of home.

It does not mean you are unhappy in the first office, it does not mean that no-one gets on.

    YW

  45. I would like to know where this came from????

    Interview with Cesc by AS.com

  46. The telegraph sites the sun which says the quotes are from last weeks television interview, the same one where he apparently said that the midfield was not up to past standards.

Old quotes, out of context, followed by the editorialising: “arsene will be worried”

    a sensational scoop.

  47. dgob – iknow i saw that and wondered.

its difficult to comment when you only see cescs quotes but not the questions that lead to the answers.

The art of journalism eh… and to think football is kinda trival compared to serious things like politics, enviroment, war.

the amount of lies over such a trivial matter (entertainment) – dread to think what they do when dealing with real serious issues!!

  48. Dgob:ade will score 20+ goals in the league for us nxt season, that i have no doubt.

  49. @ arsenalised
Quite a few AFC fans slated Cesc earlier this morning just for assuming the hacks got it right but thankfully a few sensible blogs put it straight.

  50. Wengerball – that interview doesnt mention arsenal at all.

  51. I wouldn’t trust The Sun to get today’s date right. It must be the only paper you can wipe your @rse with and get more sh!t from the paper.

    Tw@ts!

  52. A really depressed Gooner with no life

Just checked the news. Why is Cesc leaving? We’ve given him more than anyone could have given him at such a tender age. Been a crucial part of the starting 11 and made him captain at 22. Is that the way Cesc repays us? By leaving us? I am really depressed.

Any news on the transfer details? How much are we selling him for?

I think we should try to get one of their players in the deal. How about Keita or Basquests?

  53. WMD anyone?

  54. Alex Ice Cream

    PZ,

I am not so sure. I think AA has the potential to score many goals. Ljungberg, Overmars and Pires scored far more goals for Arsenal than for their previous clubs and AA could also fall into this category. Of those you mention I think potentially Eddy could score the most.

  55. geeGunner. Your quite right about Gibbs, I have kept an eye out for him for a couple of seasons now.
He recently played an absoulte blinder in cental midfield for Stuart Peace’s under21′s, very Cesc like and weighed in with a couple of goals to boot. OK the competition was not up to much, but remember even for the under 21s he was the youngest player in the team. He has a fantastic footballing brain, he is not just a left sided player, he has proved he can defend at the highest level, attacking wing play, playmaker and an eye for goal. I believe over the next few years, this boy will really take the game by storm.

  56. YW That’s exactly it, it is obvious that the camaraderie on an spanish bus be more natural than a london bus with 20 different nationalities.

It is sad to me that a national newspaper cannot translate an article to convey the correct meaning of the original language.

Instead it is satisfactory for said publication to simple translate the story via google and print the result as gospel.

What is even more saddening is that we accept that gospel as fact.

  57. Chicken Tikka Masala,
Thank you for the information about QoS. It just shows that if you lie with dogs you’ll catch fleas. The difference between QoS and you, CTM, is that QoS chose to leave the infested area, finding the fleas offensive, while you treat the fleas as friends.

  58. Word up berg10 – how you doing dude?

  59. Pz,

“I doubt Arshavin will score as many goals, game for game, as RvP, Adebayor, Eduardo, or Bendtner.”

Are you a real fan? Thats blashpemy my friend, to make such a prediction. Arshavin the God will score more goals than anyone has ever scored in an Arsenal shirt. You’re just a RVP fan, arent you? I bet Arshavin can score 2 times the number RVP will score next season.

  60. AIC,

lol, you beat me to it. What a strange coincidence, that we would make the same comment.

  61. I think i will pop 10 quid on Bendtner top scorer next year. Sounds backwards, but he missed so many chances, that if he settles down, stays calm he will score a ton. Similar to cesc 3 years ago when he scored once then went made the next year.

  62. Arshavin pisses on Bendner, Eduardo hasn’t had a real chance

  63. Ole

I read the original translation too from the Cesc interview. Just made me laugh when they asked the last question on Wenger… and all we hear in the papers is Cesc will go his own way…

they forgot to mention he also said “he is a very important person, whom I consider a second father. He has helped me and trained me. Has made me captain of Arsenal in 22 years. He has given me everything. As a person is ten and I respect you, appreciate it and hear his advice because it transmits confidence. He is there for me with family problems.”

  64. I wouldnt trust the sun to get todays date right ha ha ha well put Gaz.

  65. Real Fan

“I bet Arshavin can score 2 times the number RVP will score next season.”

i wouldnt put money on that myself mate

  66. Hey there arsenehollis, good thanks matey, you too?

Arshavin may be rumbled next season after sucha flier for his first where he may have surprised a few managers, but I still expect him to shine.

Bendtner is also on the rise.

  67. this is really a NON-story..im bored out of my mind

  68. cheers Kingsalami

wasnt aware that he was the youngest player in the team.
Ive only seen him play left side, never in the centre. the one thing that stood out for me was his passing ability, his positioning and tackling. his performances was excellent last season considering he only just started playing left back for the first team and noticed his tackling is really strong. the boy doesnt flinch on 50/50′s. i remember wenger saying that he reminds him of giggs. giggs to me at that age was more direct and a bit more skillful (more of a winger)but like you said gibbs might have more of a football brain – hence him being very good in different positions

  69. It’s called perspective Franchise aka Chicken Tikka Masala.

If anything, it shows how easy it is to get swept up in the poison on that site. You’re surrounded by negative fucktards like yourself and you get into a negative mindset. Away from it, you see things more clearly.

Besides, have you never met a reformed smoker?

That you and Pedro would stoop so low as to crawl back through the archives on Le-Grove just to try and get at me, who incidentally has never had a go at you. Says all I need to know about you.

You’re a coward, you got shown up on this blog by Yogi, Ateeb, PZ, Frank et al. You couldn’t run with the big dogs, so you think you can try an easier target.

  71. Berg10

He will exploit a few teams and score a few goals at least, what we shouldnt do is expect wonders from him after them 4 goals against Liverpool. The main factor that leaves us being positive is his interplay with others like Cesc, Nasri, Clichy etc… he came into a team which wasnt flowing and linked well with the team immediately.

The goals & assists will come and go, we have seen that with players like Rosicky, Nasri, Overmars, Ljungberg etc down the years.. as long as we score as a team near enough the same or more as we did this season and sort our defending out we will challenge.

We all know we have the firepower to score them goals, Eduardo and possibly Rosicky added to our ammunition is a very exciting prospect. Vermalean added at the back is a sign that Wenger is trying to strengthen that area.

  72. Good berg, just finished teaching for the summer so time to fritter daydreaming about a new DCM and our conversion to barcelona style 4-3-3.

Imagine an attacking 4 of cesc, arshavin, rvp, Rosicky. Then walcott, nasri, diaby denilson for variation or rotation.

A good pre-season, no outs a couple more ins: Arsenal champions.

  73. Get back to your flea circus, CTM.

  74. Probabaly the only filled c*nt you’ll ever see.

    Have a nice life.

  75. What a way to spend a summers day, spewing filth at other people, sad.

  76. who is this Chicken Tikka Masala?

he besmirches a dish that I love

  77. That’s a bit graphic, isn’t it, QoS?

  78. Talk about arsenal and everthing will be okay.

  79. QOS @ 1:13

    nice reponse

they must be out for you – they even went through archives for like a yr to find a quote to prove a point. you must have rubbed them up the wrong way!

  80. ChrisGoona – true (AA) and even if he’s man marked closer this opens up space for the rest.

arsenehollis that sounds pretty good to me, then we have Vela, Eddy and Bendy to add…

One more ‘IN’, a mean b@star* DM

  81. Please do CTM
    … and dont come back

  82. Go away, Tikka. She never mentions the grovellers. She’s too busy making us blush with her obscene language.

Are you Geoff’s guard dog? Do dogs have guard dogs?

  83. Berg – i think toure would be the best, he was amazing for barca. It seems mad to me that they would want a replacement, but mascherano would have to be that. That Melo looks good though, if there is any truth in it. Once we have that, our skill players will shred teams.

  84. Both ACLF and Le-grove are good blogs,so everbody should take their cup of coffee in their favourite restaurants.

  85. Eboue, Bendtner and Adebayor all got booed last season. A few misguided people who thought they could somehow send a message to the manager by abusing the players soon realised that booing in the stadium, or trashing the team on blogs, doesn’t help anything.

It was kind of a watershed. I’d be more worried about the fans that didn’t learn from those incidents.

  86. Great avatar Berg10!

CTM, great dish, awful poster. What sort of life do you lead you wanker? Really, you are just pathetic. Run along home now and change your wet sheets.

  87. AA has quite a football brain. Noticed that many of his quick passes went astray because his teammates have not played long enough with him.

Arshavin has never played with Eduardo amd Rosicky. I am slavering at the thought of this fully fit midfield trio playing alongside Cesc, Nasri et al.

  88. arsenehollis – My only concern with Yaya is he appeared disinterested in joining us recently, OK he plays for Barca but would his mindset be good enough? Maybe Kolo’s future would influence that, IF rumours were to be believed and he desires Citeh , I hope not.
Melo seems a more realistic option and based on a Brazilian bloggers opinion his temperament has been calmed slightly in the Salsa boys squad in response to his 17 yellows and 3 red cards.

  89. Berg – not sure the toure to man city story has legs, that was a january wash-out as i remember. I would guess another example of lazy journalism that it is being rehashed now, just like the cesc (mis)quotes. If we dont want to sell he will stay.

His brother was amazing for barca, i watched them a lot this season and he is something special, the right age, mobile – more so than melo it seems – and decptively good with the ball. You have to be to play for barca. I just think he looks a better player than melo for a pure holding role. For me that would be the best available, best in the world frankly with essien and masch, imo.

  90. 4th the target

AW is still talking up his players while it has become clear that players like Eboue, Diaby, Senderos, Song, Denilson, Sylvestre, Djourou and Almunia are not title winning quality.

He doesn’t seem to be interested in selling Eboue, Senderos and Sylvestre to bring in a natural ball-winning DM.

4th has become once more his target for next season but 4th will be tough this time round. We’ll be fighting with City, Villa, Spurs, Everton and perhaps West Ham for that position.

He’s only interested in keeping his Afro-French crap who haven’t won anything for 4 seasons.

  91. Chris Goona,

Lets make it more interesting. Let me double the bet. Arshavin will score twice as many goals as RVP in half as many games played.

    Franchise.

There can only be one real fan on this blog. And I can do a better job than you, without the offensive language. And I really won’t waste half my day going through some archives. lol. I can’t stop laughing now, that you’d go through so much effort to prove a point. Only for it to be thrown back at your face like that. Must feel humiliated and embarassed. I’d suggest this be the last time you come on this blog, save your self from more embarassment. Without the self respect, how would you go and boast on other blogs how you took the whole of the ACLF on your own? ;)

  97. Denilson, djourou, senderos, almunia – half the players mentioned as “afro french crap” arent even french or african.

  98. They’re french Arsenehollis. You haven’t realized it yet.

  99. 4′th, don’t you dare say “we” when referring to The Arsenal. You aren’t part of anything with that attitude, except maybe the scum.

  100. arsenehollis – I haven’t watched Barca so much this season but the few times I managed it he looked solid enough although how much of the credit needs to be laid at his talented midfield team mates I don’t know, but I won’t doubt your opinion.

  101. 4th the target,

Why dont you just admit that you are Howard in disguise and save us the trouble? You left this blog under the Howard name saying that you would start a blog of your own (!) to illuminate us. What happened to that project? Could’nt do it? Did you just turn out be as mediocre as Franchise?

  102. Ignore 4th the target people

He posts the same bullshit everytime he comes on, my bet he is a scummy spud who spends his day copying and pasting from a notepad file full of shitty anti arsenal comments into bloggs.

He just wants a reaction from someone, dont give him the satisfaction, hes a knob end

  103. He is fucking good berg, they even played him CB in the final against manure and he was flawless. Sure giving the ball to iniesta and xavi helps, but he is pretty handy for someone of his size, which is something we could use. he may not pass the ball as well as Melo, but he has good technique and i think can defend better, although i havent seen melo as much.

Either way, we get a good holding player and the rest is al there. Plus, with players back form injury and teh youth a year older we have a really deep squad number wie to.

  104. Gris Gris

Ha Ha, great avatar yourself mate.

4th the target – you’re talking through your arse

  105. Berg10

Toure played pretty well at the back filling in for the final too.. his defensive abilities are good, considering he is in a very much attack minded team it will seem as if Toure is the perfect signing. Strong, big, defensive midfielder, if he can pass the ball too like arsenehollis says…. When has Wenger ever gone out and bought the most obvious signing that we all scream for. I thought we already had a DM anyway in Song. He showed that he is ready. Plus with the ever reliable Denilson to play his part i cant see why everyone is screaming for Toure.

When we get our game together the Barca fans are going to wish and look at Song or any of our players and wish that they were playing for them. Its just a matter of time before the whole of the world of football has a watchfull eye on the football being played at the Emirates.

  106. Chris – the whole world already has a watchful eye, that is the cause of all these rumours. Personally i still think another CM player, a pure holding type guy would be good. Especially if we play 3 in midfield. Would allow denilson to play further forward, or possibly to get more attacking players on the pitch and still defend well.

  107. ChrisGooner

I’m with you on Song, even at CB he looked v. good, he progressed a lot as the season went on.

  108. I think an experienced midfield maybe needed in the CM area for sure, but Song for me will play the most part of the coming season in that position. Obviously some games will suit us playing more attack minded midfielders like in the champs league we could go for a midfield of:

    AA/Nasri – Denilson/Diaby – Cesc- Rosicky/Walcott

where as in the Premier you need a strong player like Song in there for them tricky physical away games.

  109. I know it’s been said that we shouldn’t sell anyone but the wage bill is already very high and with Gibbs and RVP recently getting more wonga surely we need to offload a couple of bodies.

  110. arsenehollis

I think a slight change in formation is possible this coming season, how many times already have we seen Arsene revert us to a 4-5-1 , 4-2-3-1 and so on…. Its just a metter of time before we see one formation working better than a 4-4-2 and being implemented.

Saying that though, the 4-4-2 wenger has played down the years has never really been a normal 4-4-2, with Pires drifting in and Ljungberg making central runs. Henry pulling left, Bergkamp dropping deeper. The formation we use will be personalised to suit our players, just a matter of tweaking it.

  111. Berg10

Depends really, maybe we might have to offload a body or 2, if you look at us being the 3rd highest on the wage bill behind Man U and Chelsea, Man U alredy losing Tevez and Ronaldo we will fair us quite high coming into a new season with Vermaelen + maybe 1 more also!!

Our wages our that high because we have so many talented youngsters, we could always loan a few more out..

  112. I think that a sexagenarian, arsenehollis, is a person whose preference is to sleep with people i.e. human beings. For some reason the person who accused me of being one reckons that to be an insult.

  113. ChrisGooner

Also we’re getting Sendy and Traore back which again will increase our outgoings although I read AW thinks Phil is surplus, though not Traore as Arsene has plans for him.

  114. Chrisgoona, if wage figures include non-playing staff, Arsenal’s wages are likely to be somewhat higher than the Mancs anyway just because of the cost of living differential between the North-West and South-East. Just as the cost of building a stadium and facilities is higher. Of course that is why our tickets prices will always need to be higher. When salaries and prices are compared there is always a danger of comparing apples with oranges.

  116. As I understand it, the 101m (or whatever it was) quoted as our wage bill includes both playing and non-playing staff (and MD pay-offs!) and as such you are quite right when you talk about apples and oranges.

  117. Edward de Bono quote for you, QoS…

‘“If you never change your mind, why have one?”

    …you are fine.

  118. Yaya Toure had plenty of flaws in the Champions League final. Luckily for him, Barcelona dominated in midfield, so Toure was rarely put under pressure. Pique was their star in defence.

  119. Anyone see Ramos’s mistake last night?

  120. Another one for you, QoS, from Churchill himself..

‘A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject’.

  121. It will be a long time before Franchise tangles with the Fish Wife of Suburbia again.

  122. lol! I like that quote.

  126. So he was basically saying that John Kerry would have made a great US President?

  127. PZ

    Pique was awesome.

  128. Pique and Toure can’t really be that awesome when they gave atleast half a dozen chances to Chelsea in the semis.

  129. ‘Well if you change your mind because you have new information then that is healthy, it demonstrates the capacity to learn and the courage to change direction…that is by me.

…that is from Oliver Herford a writer and illustrator again from the turn of last century.

  130. What sort of things do you read “for fun” Frank?

  131. “Consistency is, as ever, the hobgoblin of little minds”

Not as good as the churchill quote, but was in my bed-time reading last night, so I can throw it out there.

I think Song’s future is in defence, wenger always says so at least. If nothing else, as our only purely defensive minded CM we need another for depth. Personally, as good as he was, Song to me is nowhere near Yaya yet.

If someone needs to go, then Sylvester. If they can get along, it is best for the club to keep both gallas and toure.

  132. You have obviously been a keen student most of your life Frank.

It always strikes me as sad that, one spends a lifetime accumilating wisdom and knowledge only for it be wiped out in an instant.

Not, I hasten to add am i implying that you are in the twilight of yours!

  133. P*rnography when I can get it, QoS…other than that I have eclectic tastes in literature and music.

  134. I aggreee with arsenhollis

Except that Song’s future looks uncertain as far as position is concerned, but he can do a good job both in the defense and midfield. And I don’t think Song is too far off Yaya. I think Xavi, Iniesta makes him look alot better. And I dont think Sylvester needs to go, he should be kept as a squad player. And I also think that it matters less if Gallas and Toure get along.

  135. Well I am certainly not in the first flush of youth, thats for sure, QoS. But everything works quite well, except my eyes and this fucking keyboard.

  136. “It always strikes me as sad that, one spends a lifetime accumilating wisdom and knowledge only for it be wiped out in an instant.”

    You mean death is sad?

I don’t think it’s sad, because it really shouldn’t matter in the end. What would matter is that you’d be accumilating wisdom and knowledge and structuring your life in accordanceto what you learn.

  137. Ateeb – a lot of CB’s at the club right now. Toure, gallas, Vermaalen, Senderos Djourou, Song, Syvester.

Seems like the area to trim if the wage bill is too big as was suggested. Personally, I hope they keep senderos. He is great in the air and would add balance. Not so hot in the PL, but an excellent CL defender generally (anfield aside).

  138. “In much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”

  139. I belong to an over 50s activity club, QoS, which keeps me on my toes….quite literally sometimes.

We like to act out scenes from literature and cinema. You know like the Draughtmans Contract, The Night Porter, Jungoe Book…

  140. ..that’ll be Jungle Book

  141. Given that a significant part of not winning trophies in the last couple of years has been down to having large numbers of injuries at key moments…i think stuff the wage bill, lets go into next season overstocked and ready for fate to deal us the 6 first team players out against ManU card again!!

  142. I thought I had solved the keyboard problem by employing a small toffee hammer on some of the more difficult keys, but it slows the flow and I am not that accurate with it.

  143. Who suggested that that the wage bill NEEDS to be cut?

  144. and that’ll be the keyboard again!

  145. Well I don’t think it does, Ateeb, oh no, not at all.

  146. Yes it was I think we are out of sync, QoS. My universe is slightly ahead of yours. We need a wormhole.

  147. Atteeb – someone above, cant remember who. Although in fairness maybe the depth argument is most persuasive, especially with 2 of those 7 CB’s away for the month of Jan. Still, it also adds weight to the idea that we need another holding player.

  148. Then why would arsenehollis make such a claim? I think we need to get to the bottom of the story. Who has been feeding arsenehollis this crap about the wage bill needing a cut?

  149. Frank @ 3.46 – so does fr*nch*se !! :-)

  150. Ateeb

Given the fact we have possibly the 2nd highest wage bill in the prem, have upgraded several contracts (Gibbsy and RVP to name but two), purchased Vermaelen, Sendy and Traore are back from loan…would seem to be a larger burden than the previous season where we are led to believe we are skint.

  151. We have a small squad. Everyone says so. Even Wenger admitted we have a “compact” squad. We’ve added two players since then, but can that be enough to turn a small squad into a bloated squad?

  152. “Still, it also adds weight to the idea that we need another holding player”

I don’t think we NEED a holding player. We might benefit if an addition was made, in case of injuries, but don’t think we NEED one. And I personlly wouldn’t want anyone in that position than Denilson. The boy deserves that place.

1 Holding midfield position with , Denilson, Song, Diaby. I think we are well stocked. Just need to get to the end of the summer some how. Oh and Nasri thinks he can also play there. So does Arsene, and that French coach.

  153. Berg10 – what are the figures you are using to draw the conclusion that we have the 2nd highest wage bill?

I recall a Wenger quote where he stated that we report all our playing and non-playing staff’s wages in theat line on the balance sheet but that other clubs do not….

  154. You’re wrong, QoS. All regular grovellers are given unlimited access to Geoff’s wormhole.

  155. Berg10,

I think we made a sound profit this year. That should cover for any extra wages. And Sendros’s future remains undecided yet. I don’t think the wage bill would be too big an issue, to actually reduce the squad size.

And with the extra profits we’ll make next year, by winning the PL and CL, we’ll surely be better off.

  156. Oh and I think queen is right about those figures. We surely can’t be paying more than the Chelski and Manu. Not possible. Where are the stats people?

  157. Ateeb my view re: bringing in a new DM is that if he’s better than Denilson then great, we’ve strengthened and Denilson is young enough to keep working, keep learning and develop even further. We can be confident that even if we bought falcao himself, Denilson isn’t giving up the shirt without a fight!

If he comes in and Denilson keeps his place, then it means that he’s playing well enough to keep his spot. Either way works for me.

If Song goes to the ANC then we risk entering a very tough run of games with only one recognised DM…

  158. Ateeb – 2:40pm dude, dont think it is ‘crap’, just pragmatic perhaps. As Berg said, the percieved wisdom is that we are hard up for loose change.I dont know if that is true, but maybe, economy is tanking.

Polizano – just at CB we have senderos and traore back and vermaalen in, plus gibbs emergence. On LB should go on loan surely?

Then we have Eduardo, rosicky back from injury, simson from loan, vela maybe ready to start a few games, Ramsey too.

Dont get me wrong, it is excellent news that we now have a deep squad, but sense that at some stage platers need games. It is especially hard to rotate in defence, or risky perhaps. Silvestre came to us for games he couldnt get at utd, senders wants to play. Djourou and song needs games to develop, the three ahead of that will expect regular starts to. Personally i would keep them all until jan and see where we are with the ACN and let anyone who is unhappy go then, but who wants to send 1/2 a season on the bench apart from alex hleb?

  159. Ateeb

Hopefully we did make sufficient profit and agree on Senderos as stated earlier AW wanted Milan to keep him so he appears to be surplus and without prdjudice I feel we could let Silvestre go, we need better back up.

I’m with you on winning the double.

  160. Nasri may well become a good DM as may Diaby but i’m not convinced that its their best positions…or at least not until they get a run of games there.

I just wouldn’t be mad keen on the idea that we may be forced to experiment with them as DM’s in a run og games that includes Manu, Chelski, Villa and Champs League…

  161. Isn’t the story that Kieran Gibbs is going to be offered £20k a week, proof that it’s not true that our youngsters are on crazy money?

If the story is true, it shows that the youngsters are not on £40k each as claimed by Myles Palmer, his footsoldiers and other antigoons.

  162. Lets be honest, none of what we have is a world class holding player. Denilson and diaby are not pure defensive midfielders, they both like to attack. Diaby has played a lot of LW or as a second striker, more than DCM. Song is the one and only, but frankly right now if Toure/melo came in i doubt he keeps them on the bench. Keep the players, but if we can add something better than what we have we should. We had players for LW, but arshavin was a good buy, so to sagna when we had eboue.

  163. Didn’t we have the 3rd highest wage bill last season? If, as pointed out earlier ManUre have reduced their bill (vastly without the winker) and Tevez soon to go, with our increases, and not taking into account any Manc increases in that area then speculatively we are up there.

  164. Berg10 – where did you hear that?

I suspect its the source that Wenger refuted when asked the direct question about the wage bill.

He said something like “we include all our wages, playing staff, coaches, scouts, and everyone on the payroll” – Other teams just report their playing staff costs which is why they look lower.

  165. A mature footballer who is worth anything will want to play, but the situation is different for younger players. I think it is normal for youngsters to play only now and then. Only in special cases does a teenager, for example, become a regular in a Premier League team. Last season, I think we ran short of players in almost every position at one time or another. We have of course added a couple of players. Another couple of players are returning from injury, but I’d be surprised if they are able to play 40-50 games next season. I am not desperate for any new players, but I doubt we will turn out to have too many either.

  166. Alex Ice Cream,

Overmars’ goalscoring record for Arsenal is very similar to his goalscoring for Ajax.

Whatever is the case, Arshavin has never been more of a goalscorer. I don’t expect he will score more goals than the strikers. But if he does it’ll be all to the good.

  167. You beat me to it Irish!

    Must be my red hair!

  168. The important thing about the wage bill is not so much it’s size but the ratio to turnover. If I remember correctly ours is about 50%.

  169. QOS – Ginger I thought

  170. Berg10,

But our revenue is growing, so what matters is to maintain a healthy ration between wages and how much we bring in annually.

I’m sure that one is under control me good man.

  171. There does seem to be a policy of managing the media reports more than in previous season doesn’t there?

Is this a lesson learned from last summer or the influence of new personnel in senior positions at the club?

  172. QOS

Hand on heart it was quite some time ago so I can’t verify, but Arsene is shrewd enough to ‘balance the books’ therefore I have no fear of further acquisitions harming the club.

    Nice one Cesc.

  173. Is our playing squad bigger than other teams?

Do we have more players on our books than other clubs? I really don’t know.

  174. You have red hair? That explains a lot.

  175. I hadn’t read that no – but its certainly fleshed out my thinking on the subject.

It’s a good move for sure, keeps things a little more transparent.

  176. Fabregas has affirmed his commitment to Arsenal more often than any other player. Speculation about his future come wholly from the minds of the speculators, not from him.

  177. The quashing of rumours/bad journalism has been an awful lot quicker this summer from what I can tell.

  178. I had a line there PZ- but i don’t want to make you blush again!

Nope. I’m not a redhead although I’ve pretty much tried every colour over the years! As has been previously discussed, its a women’s perogative to change her mind!

(Or at least, what’s on it!)

  179. They should have done the same thing with the comments about Ade from yesterday.

  180. Good man Cesc, was there ever any doubt?

Wages aside, the manager always needs to look at how to balance the squad with young talent coming through, players bought, back from loan, or returning from injury. Maybe 7 CB’s is too much? 6 and an open competition for the starting places with Hoyte as emergency cover seems ample, i think.

The first proud fan with the new arsenal shirt looks suspiciously like the dude at the end of my nan’s row, good man!

  181. Ole – the press never quoted Ade.

  182. You always have a line, QoS. I’m still blushing from before.

  183. They quoted his agent saying Ade wants to work with Ancelotti which is false.

  184. I even hestitated over the enter button out of consideration for you, Pz….

  185. My guess, its harder for the club to control the agents than it is to control their own employees.

They don’t hold the gross misconduct card.

  186. Cesc Fabregas, you are an absolute fucking star.

  187. But I knew Frank would want me to say it…!

  188. Do you need my toffee hammer, QoS

  189. QoS,

They could simply point out what I found out within 3 minutes of looking at the source story. That it had been twisted.

  190. I’m not sure what the etiquette of commenting on something said by somebody not employed by the club is though Ole.

I suupose they could lean on the agent to retract it though? If I was an agent, i’m not sure i’d agree to do that, it’d be in my own personal interest to allow a little ambiguity, it might shake out a suitor and then i’d be on for my 20% cut…

  191. Thank you for the consideration, QoS; but the examination of filled ***** having been discussed, I’m struggling to imagine how the conversation could get much more embarrassing.

  192. Poliziano, what a load of bullshit, he says shit all the time.

‘but I didn’t mean it like that I swear’

Dont be a mug all your life

  193. I like being a mug.

  194. I’ve only just noticed Tommy’s avatar!

  195. Maybe F mistook his mouth for a wormhole.

  196. just for laughs !!!

  197. this one is even better !!!!!

  199. .

  200. I don’t like those videos. A bit cruel, don’t you think?

  201. Fab4′s comments…now that is how a captain speaks!

  202. Not sure about the new haircut though!

it worked on Freddie but i’m less keen on our little Spaniards interpretation.

  203. Yeah, let’s concentrate on essentials.

  204. Here’s a really good article that ties into what we were debating here the other night about salary caps, and why the business side of football is not in the best shape these days. Well-worth a look:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jun/25/liverpool-robert-kraft-ownership

  205. While he plays football, let’s worry about his skills on the pitch. If, when he retires, he decides to start a career as a dandy, we can start worrying about whether his hair is a la mode.

  206. If only the lack of a salary cap did discourage buyers!

  207. Arsenal has a wage policy though does it not,OG. I thought we were the only top club in the EPL with a wage structure based upon wins, cleansheets etc.

  208. I thought the same, PZ. If buyers stopped coming forward there would be more of incentive for clubs to live within their means.

  209. From now on Cesc should actually start any comments to the media with ” I’m totally committed to Arsenal, and I’m not leaving” then he can continue with whatever he want to say.

Maybe this approach will eliminate the speculation frenzy every time he opens his mouth?

  210. I aam gettinng sick of this…the..aaa and nnnnnnnn keys keep gettinng stuck. We haad treaacle taaart aannd custaaard yesterdaay aand I took my teeth out to put them inn aaa glaass of waater for cleaaannning whilst I waas writinnng aann aaarticle. Some of the puddinnng residue must have dribbled onnto the…onnnnto the…onnto those keys aaand nnnnow they are very difficult. I put the teeth in my caardigann pocket now.

  211. Quote from the article:

“He also expressed concern at the idea that a team could spend €80m (£68m) before wages on a player who could, theoretically, suffer a long-term injury in their first game”.

Imagine we’d paid £50M for Rosicky and then that crazy injury happened?

What if Ronaldo smashed his ferrari, and developed a nerve problem that then affects his game?

  212. I think he already has a nerve problem, OG. It makes him keep stepping over the ball. We think he is show-boating but it is in fact a form of Tourette’s.

  213. Has Adebayor sacked his agent yet? Didnt think so

  214. Why should he sack his agent?

  215. because he makes his client look like a wally..

  216. I’ll take your word for it. You’ll know.

  217. “We lost Hleb and Flamini last summer and we have had to rebuild…..But we have done that now and the future looks bright. We don’t want to have to rebuild again, so I want to keep all the players together for next season. I don’t want to lose anyone.

“I want to add to the squad and have identified one or two targets. But identifying players and buying them are two different things.

    Arsene Wenger, 23/06/2009

  218. “I’m not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.

“So, for anyone who is unclear or may have misunderstood what my position is, let me make myself absolutely crystal clear. I am wholeheartedly committed to Arsenal and my future lies with this great club.”

    Cesc Fabregas, 25/06/2009.

  219. “I’m not sure how many times I need to talk directly about my commitment to Arsenal as I continue to say the same thing over and over again, but it appears that every time I have spoken to the Spanish media recently, my words have bounced back to England, leaving question marks about my future.”

    Cesc Fabregas, 25/06/2009.

  220. Need they say more?

    F*ck the media.

  221. Not sure if you guys watched the Video of TV taking the Emirates tour…link attached.

  222. they are picking on cesc and arsenal because their utd lost thier key player. I find it strange that they dont talk more about ade because they know it wouldn’t piss most arsenal fans off if ade did go!

  223. Thanks for that, G4E. I like the look of him. He still reminds me of Jean-Claude Van Damme.

  224. Any one know the SA Brazil score?? No feed down here in the caribbean?

  225. I think it starts in just under 20 minutes, gunnerjones.

  226. I know Poliziano, he looks Van Damme-ish :)

And just in case any one forgot what Rosicky is all about..remember this?

    ===

GJ…I don’t think the SA Brazil game started yet?

  227. O ,, got my times all mixed up then,,, thanx,, its crap not been able to get the games,. Im a x SA patriot and would love to see them play brazil.

  228. Vermaelen will fit in well at Arsenal, I think.

  229. I agree PZ ,, i haven’t seen much of him but if Wenger rates him Im a believer.. I really dont mind if he is our only addition to the squad, i see big things coming from Song this next season. And i dont care what people say of Denilson , he is a huge player for us. I he will be a Arsenal great, along with Cesc and Van Persie.

  230. Thanks for all the clarification,

I’m very pleased to see that Cesc has come out and supported our positive views: Arsenal to the bone!

Roll on August; roll on May 2010

  231. Has Goonerted found his brain yet? Didnt think so

  232. CESC I LOVE YOU

  233. You mean he actually has one Steve!

  234. G4E thanks for posting that video man

I really had forgotten the power of Rosicky, but now I remember.

I can’t believe we’re going to see Arshavin, Fabregas and Rosicky in midfield. How amazing is that! I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve now, waiting for next season to begin. Jesus Christ how am I going to survive the summer, I miss my Arsenal…

  235. Not for the Le Grove crowd

  236. I know Blackstock, sounds like a long wait..but the pre-season starts on 07/15 so we will start to watch some of them sooner than the EPL games.

  237. Yes , i just watchrd the Rosicky vid too, he will be like a new signing if he can stay fit, im watering at the mouth at the prospect of him AA , Cesc . with Eddy and RVP up front, i rate Ade but i thing RVP and Eddy have football brains and are better finishers.

  238. Anyone watching the Brazil-South Africa must be hard-pressed to say Melo is worth £15M.

  239. G4E,

Can’t watch youtube here at work, banned and not worth my job, but I’m guessing that Rosicky’s goal against the US at the last world cup is on that clip. I still get chills thinking about that one. It was shortly after the world cup, I think, that Arsenal announced they had signed him. I remember that too. Like Blackstock says, it’s beginning to look a bit like Christmas…keeping fingers crossed and touching wood that Rosicky is actually fit to start preseason training.

  240. What is that awful noise in the background of the Rosicky video?

  241. Dont rub it in PZ ,,, im watching the minute bye minute update on ESPN soccernet,,, sounds like a dull match, but SA still in it so im happy. If the commentator says the horns are the best thing about the match .. he really said that The horns are currently the best thing about this game, which is a bit like saying that death is one of the best things about life. Ha ha,, Ive heard those horns first hand they are awful .

  242. No, no, I’m not talking about the horns in the Confederations Cup. I’ve stopped noticing them. They can be annoying.

  243. I know you not PZ ,, i cant watch so no idea how Melo is playing! just found the horn part a bit amusing..

  244. From the look on Dunga’s face, I’d say he’s regretting not bringing Denilson.

  245. The commentator just said it himself,, Melo has been nonsense tonight,,, LETS BUY HIM !!

  246. Felipe Melo is no Patrick Vieira. He’s no Makelele. Heck, he’s no Gilberto Silvae. Not even an Edu.

He’s a decent player but I’m wondering why this is the guy we NEED.

  247. Here is confirmation that most Gaffers just use Premiership Manager to pick their summer signings! LOL!

    http://blogs.soccernet.com/thissportinglife/archives/2009/06/the_games_people_play_now.php

  248. Im being sarcastic OG..

  249. gunnerjones I got that….I’m just rubbing it on the faces of the flavour of the month youtube online whiners….

  250. Hi Gris Gris, this was a video of only his Arsenal goals…but I remember his two goals against the US, he was already announced as an Arsenal player, and it was awesome to see him score two beautiful goals…even though it hurt since it was against the US :)

  251. I really watched Melo in the last couple of games, he is nothing better than Denilson. In fact Denislon may be more technical than him. The only difference is Melo maybe taller, bigger and older :)

  252. That was a dull match. The whole Brazilian team was poor, so it would be unfair to judge Melo on the basis of that match, even though he was probably the worst.

  253. Right teeth in and new keyboard.

The press coverage of Cesc Fabregas was an utter, utter disgrace, matched only by the so-called Arsenal supporters who believed it with relish. I demand an apology from each of those so-called Arsenal supporters…an absolute, unequivocal, no conditions attached apology. If you cannot do that…then you really cannot call yourself an Arsenal supporter and the rest of us will treat you with the contempt you deserve. Your support has gone rotten and you really should turn to another cluib…because we just don’t need you. You know who you are and you know we know who you are.

    ….Arsenal…..

  254. Bleedin hell! Cesc is a c*nt!!! Sell the ungrateful fucker! Whats that you say? He’s refuted the comments??? Sod it, sell him anyways!

So, I reckon we can get about £50m for cesc, £25m for Ade, £5m for Senderos and £12m for Kolo….

And with that we can sign; David Bentley, Joey Barton, Jeremie Aliadiere and Kevin Davies…

  255. Worst is very hard to choose from that lot. Exactly right, Pz, Brazil looked very un-Brazillike.

They were lucky too. Gilberto, Luisao, Lucio, Ramirez, Robinho, Maicon and Melo looked really knackered.

If it’d gone into extra-time I’d really have fancied South Africa’s chances.

  256. We already treat them with the contempt they deserve.

  257. Cesc Fabregas you are a fucking hero…and soon to be legend. TH couldn’t do it, PV couldn’t do it. But today you showed the same class as Dennis Bergkamp. There is no doubt that you are Arsenal through and through and I take my hat off to you. I will cheer you in your Arsenal shirt to the ends of the Earth. You are my sort of Arsenal player and I am so, so proud of you.

    ….Arsenal…..

  258. And we should definitely sign melo, for whatever its costs….

  259. I know, PZ, I was just reminding everyone.

  260. Melo looked well off the pace tonight, maybe just tired, but we could do with someone extremely energetic and athletic i think. I pray for the brother Toure every day.

  261. How come you guys are getting into the Confederate…shun Cup thingy then? Thought we didn’t go for national teams in these parts?

  262. Why the is everyone talking about this Melo fellow?

  263. Sorry I am sure others have used that ‘rhyme’ (it isn’t really), but I didn’t intend it.

  264. Do you really pray for Yaya Toure, arsenehollis?

  265. This is Samir Nasri’s week, and we are talking about players who don’t even play for us. Samir Nasri is a very, very important player who has only played one season in the Prem. After a full pre-season he is going to be massive. Alex Hleb and Mathieu Flamini will be toast after we have watched a second season of Samir.

  266. Frank i think he is in the 3 best in the world in his position, if barca get mascherano then we can have Toure. That would be the most exciting signing since Sol campbell IMO

  267. Next season we will see a different Samir Nasri. He will add toughness and agression to his repertoire. PLUS a real understanding with the players around him, on top of sublime ball skills and blistering pace over 10-15 yards. Going to be the talk of the Prem next season, no doubt about it.

  268. South Africa can be proud of themselves my god steve pineear is quality.

I agree Melo was poor today but has had a good season with Fiorentina.

I can’t wait for the season to start, glad there is footy on the box at the moment but I want to shut all the doubters that keep spouting we will be vieing for a europa league spot, I say to them it will be the manure not us!!!

  269. You’ll have to find a new dream, arsenehollis, as the latest reports say Yaya is on the verge of signing a new contract with Barcelona.

  270. Naaaah…..arsenehollis. If we were going to sign Yaya, it would have been two years ago. I don’t think we need him. We have better.

  271. 1 loose cannon

First things first. Spike you are the thickest idiot on earth.
According to the evening standard Wenger is the least popular manager in London Roy Hodgson, Zola and Arry are all above him and that is according to a survey done with our own so called fans. 4th spot 2 semi finals apparently is worst than finishing 7th and playing rubbish football. We certainly have some fans who don’t deserve to support this great club.

  272. I will be very surprised if Arsenal do not win the premiership next season, silver gunner. I say that on the basis of the current squad. We may sign more, but after this pre-season we will have the best squad in England…and I would venture Europe too. The cup competitions are always awkward as even the best can have an off-night. But Arsenal are skillfully manouevring into pole position.

  273. I’m watching Brazil just because I want to see Gilberto & Melo. And it’s the only decent football on anywhere.

  274. I totally agree with 1 loose cannon.

  275. 1 loose cannon – you have to get with it, Spike is being ironic.

  276. Frank we just need to stop conceding the silly goals and top spot will be ours. Football is a confidence sport and if we start well it will be a catalyst for the rest of our season.

  277. I’m not keen to sign another central midfielder. If we do get one, I don’t think it will be one of the names that have been filling the newspapers recently.

  278. By the way, ilc, the Evening Standard are liars.

  279. 1 loose cannon,

It’s disheartening and most of it is just media-instigated bullshit.

Wenger’s record has been distorted beyond recognition.

We keep hearing about 4 years without a trophy. Yes, but here’s the record

    2006–>CL Final
    2007–>CC Final
2008–>Should have won the league until officiating and bad injuries halted us.
Even in the year (2009) that is supposedly the worst ever, we still made the Champions League semis for only the 2nd time ever!

  280. ‘We certainly have some fans who don’t deserve to support this great club.’…1ic is absolutely correct.

  281. 1 loose cannon

What up muppet? I thought he might be joking when he said Bentley. Is he really been ironic?

  282. Yes 1 loose cannon… he is taking the piss out of the doomers and muppets.

  283. I agree with you, silver gunner. I think we will come out of the traps at pace and not stop for the whole season. We have the players, the ability, the strength, the technique, the strategy, the togetherness and above all anger to wipe out everything before us next season.

I will make another prediction..the in-stadium support will be the best in the prem next season. We have learned our lessons. There will still be the thick, snotty fuckers on some blogsites but fuck them. They are irrelevant.

  284. By the way, I just went to at look at that LeGrove site. The article at the top has to be the biggest piece of shit written on an Arsenal blogsite for a very long time, and the responses are just fucking degrading. Fell for the press scam on Cesc hook line and sinker. What an arsehole.

  285. 1 Loose Cannon;

Just havin a larf at the cesc “outrage” fella! Thjought my choice of signings (all of em, not just rat face bentley!) was a bit of a clue???

And as for Wenger being the least popular manager in London??? Well, according to whom? The LES??? Bunch of twats anyways, same people who produce the Daily mail aint they?

  286. I think we’ll see the spuds being pissed off with good ol Arry sooner rather than later ahyways. They like nuffin more than drivin a manager out of their ikkle club, the fickle fuckers!

I can see Ancelotti doin sweet FA n all, but with the Russian’s ill gotten, they may still be up there…

I can understand Fulham fans being hapopy with Hodgson tho, he has done effin really well. Bet the spuds will tap him up when it all goes tits up for Redkrapp!

  287. Frank @10.29,

Couldn’t agree with you more. It beggars belief that they call themselves Arsenal fans, as they only seem happy when we lose.

  288. 1 loose cannon

Muppet you know the bloggers on here. Spike accept my apology.
Frank there is a paper in spain Called la Marca you probably know it. its R. Madrid mouth piece and they are full of shit they start all this bullshit . Everytime Cesc gives an interview they twist his words and the idiots here jump on the band wagon

  289. The combined mental age of the goons who comment and post on that blog, Frank, is about 90 years old. What do you expect?

  290. Anyone heard any gossip that we’re in for Hedwiges Maduro?

  291. Bit sad about Michael Jackson dying, puts football in perspective.

  292. silver gunner

indeed it does absolute musical legend

  293. “He is one of the worlds best players, if you don’t give him, Robin and Arshavin what they want, they will leave. And then what, do we think players like to play in a team that wins nothing, do you think they will sacrifice their careers to be part of project youth?”

The funniest quote from the fool running the groove (or onto the groove…whatever)

Just the stupid fact that Fabregas is the nucleus of so called “Project Youth” proves the the grooves are just as stupid as what they write.

From drivel, to higher drivel levels only you can achieve groove-head <== (it's an insult) no sorry for it from me.

  294. weird my last comment didn’t post or say it’s in moderation? hmmmm…..

  295. Where did you get the rumour about Hedwiges Maduro, Ole? I thought all wigs went on one’s head, but I’m sure QoS will have a line. He’s done very well this season, according to http://valencia.theoffside.com/team-news/2008-09-player-rankings.html

Since he can play in midfield or at centre-back, he could be useful.

  296. Hopefully young cesc will keep his mouth closed and his skirt below his knees from now on.

  297. I can’t see why having one’s skirt below one’s knees is any better than lifting it above one’s waist.

  298. Poliziano,

I spoke with a friend in Spain and he said that was the rumour he’d heard. I can’t seem to confirm it anywhere. The best I found is some post from one of those sites that copies articles from other sites saying we’re in a bidding war with Liverpool for an unnamed Valencia midfielder.

I thought arseneholis might have heard something. That’s why I am asking…..
