Cesc & Gael Aren’t Going To Spain, Theo & Kieran Need To Step Up A Notch Or Two.

Cesc issued a denial of the headlines that surrounded his comments in the Spanish media without denying the content. Speaking to Marca, he denied saying that he would leave Arsenal if Guardiola called him. Which is entirely correct. If he wants to avoid falling into ‘traps’ as he called them, the best thing would be a media silence otherwise he will spend the summer denying breathing in the direction of the Camp Nou.

Also not joing Cesc in La Liga is Gael Clichy. The left back was the subject of speculation, lumped into the same article as media observations suggesting Eboue was on his way to Atletico. Clichy said:

I heard there is an interest from Real Madrid, but I have a contract with Arsenal which I intend to respect unless the club say otherwise. It is great to be linked with Real, but I want to win things with Arsenal

Good man. Mind you it is not surprising that he does not want to go to Madrid since there is a massive clearing out sale going on with 90% of the squad seemingly up for grabs now. Even then, the dressing room would still be cramped, filled to the brim with Ronaldo’s ego.

Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs, ahem, starred in England U21s victory over Finland last night. The young England team proved that they are more than capable of stepping into the full international squad, replicating the usual national team opening match at any World Cup or European Championships, with a decidely ordinary performance against the weakest team in the group. Gibbs was solid enough but Walcott was non-descript in the first half, making way at half-time.

Once more Theo has asserted that his ‘favoured’ position is that of central striker. As he said to Daily Express hacks:

I spoke to the boss and he wants to sort of gradually move me into a striker role. I’ll happily play anywhere for this club. But no-one has seen me as a striker at the moment, which is my main position, so I’ll be working well on that in the next couple of years.

In the current edition of FourFourTwo, there is an excellent article about Johan Cruijff. In it, the observation is made about the manner in which the Ajax youth system works and it appears that it is something that Walcott would benefit from. So that players understand all that happens on the pitch, they serve a spell in each position. Dennis Bergkamp acknowledges the benefits he gained through playing in defensive positions, ensuring that his understanding of his own role was enhanced.

Walcott has the pace to give rise to many concerns to any defence in the world yet at times he is too easily shackled by the full back and/or left-sided midfielder. Serving a spell in training at full back may develop his awareness more acutely that running at Gael Clichy or Kieran Gibbs, especially since the latter is still learning his trade. If Walcott desires a move inside to a central striking role, a spell at centre back may produce an outcome where his runs are cuter, for want of a better word.

Centre forward is a high profile position and not one where Walcott can ‘learn his trade’ in the Premier League. It would necessitate a learning curve in a competition such as the Carling Cup to allow him to develop in a few games over the next couple of seasons. If you add in the FA Cup as well, he could quite easily reach double figures before having to set foot on the pitch in the EPL as a lead striker. He has stiff competition.

Assuming Robin van Persie remains at the club, Andrei Arshavin, Nicklas Bendtner and Carlos Vela may all have something to say about Walcott’s desire. Arsene may wish to see Walcott centrally but if others are performing well there, he has little incentive to accede to the England international’s wishes.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. 1st? Is it at all possible I am first?
Is it because of my intelligence and good looks?
Not very likely … nearly lunch so humble pie it is.

Walcott as central striker? Eventually. First learn to be a great winger I say.

  2. no.2?

You forgot about Dudu in the striker role..

  3. There you go, pipped at the post by winking Luke. Maybe seconds of that humble pie, yummy, tastes fine.

  4. Anyone see the Sagna story, amazed me really. Out of all our players i would expect him to deflect any tranfser story away from himself.

  5. Walcott seems to be getting into a rut. The hattrick against Croatia for England senior seems so long ago. I hope he gets his chance to shine for U-21 to spur him to break out of the rut. He’s such a gentleman, as Stuart Pearce says.

  6. Maybe he’s on holiday

  7. ZP ;)

I was winking at whoever was eyeing 1st

  8. Luke

He is under too much pressure to perform, and i think playing in both the seniors, the U21′s and club team might be taking a toll. How many styles of play can a player adjust to exactly???

  9. but, but, but… it was empty when I arrived

  10. “both” … i meant all three

  11. Walcott to solve our defensive weaknesses?

  12. YW

why are you excluding Adebayor from those strikers to remain at Arsenal in Theo’s way??

  13. ZimPaul,
Have you tried eating crow? It makes a tasty alternative to humble pie.

  14. If Walcott wants to play as a striker, he’ll first have to spend a season in goal for the reserves.

  15. What is the question to the answer …
    “Yes! There are NO bananas”.

  16. Hard to catch crows. They fly away singing “f*ck off, F8ck off”.

  17. CG

Adebayor / Eduardo were excluded since I believe that those two would be Arsene’s first choices are lead strikers.

Personally, I don’t think TW can hope to be a lead striker for many seasons to come.

    YW

  18. A rifle shot catches them very well.

  19. I am against guns you see.

  20. It’s so CLEAR that walcott is NOT a winger! Henry did not play on the wing for that long and for me in wenger’s head he wanted to convert Walcott to a winger but it’s clear that he is unhappy playing that role. Playing on the wing is NOT just about pace, u have to have the understanding and have some tricks to beat ur man and Walcott clearly is a striker. Get rid of Adebayor and play walcott up front with arshavin / nasri and rosicky on either wing. Ever since wenger came to Arsenal he has always had a striker who has pace up front who In the channels, wright, anelka, henry, adebayor can’t run, having a target man up front is garbage! Play theo up front end of story!

  22. YW

I see…. i feel the same, Theo is probably the last choice striker in Wenger’s mind, but i wouldnt rule out him getting more minutes there this season alongside a bigger strike partner like a Bendtner or Ade. I remember on a couple of occassions he was moved there and scored at least once playing up front. He can be effective with a striker partner with his lightning pace and intelligent runs.

With Ade, Bendtner, RvP, Vela, and Eduardo all looking to be in front of him hes got alot of work to do… but going by Wengers comments on Theo he rates him highly for his finishing and has always stated playing on the wing is a learning curve for him… we have to wait n see i guess.

  23. Walcott with leg extensions would make a very effective header of the ball. IMHPO.

  24. A point worth making twice?

    You decide.

  25. Ultimately, perhaps Wenger sees a scenario where a player could ‘nominally’ be positioned on the left, but switch several times, as the game moves, and take up a more central position.

  26. “If a point’s not worth making, it’s worth making 73 times” D&G Family Values rule # 14.

  27. Luckily both will be faithful because they have money to burn. It is the funniest, ugliest pairing in recent memory. A match made in Bernabao.

  28. Or right, as in Walcott’s case.

  29. Ade can’t run? Oh dear God. What next?
FWIW I think Theo will terrify slower turning central defenders once he’s learned his craft on the wing. Modern fullbacks and the midfielders he faces now in the narrow channel of the wing are nimble tricksy hobbits. He’ll be bewildering lumbering CH’s up and down the country in 3 – 4 years time don’t you worry.
    Let’s all remember he’s still a kid.

  30. I think that’s fantastic news.
I was really worried that their relationship was gonna be over before it started, but if they both really want it to work and will be faithful to each other, it makes me feel so much better.

  31. Paris and Ron is the new Posh and Becks.

  32. Shibbit, now I want Ronaldo back at OT so that when Paris visits to watch games, the whole world can laugh.

  33. Well, at least for 3 weeks, while it lasts

  34. He might sell a few more shirts cuz of it.. ;)

  35. Are they intellectually compatible? Not a worry. Will their friends get along? No problems there.

    This could work.

  36. Oh dear, as the “lesser Ronaldo” name catches on there could be problems. Perhaps she should do the right thing and become the “lesser Paris”.

  37. I’m rooting for them. Both will get the love of a good woman.

  38. P’raps Sir Alex Ferguson could give them away.

  39. He’s the new Cilla Black.

  40. I don’t know anything about Paris Hilton, but from what others have been saying she is a typical Parisian woman – though presumably not from Paris.

  41. hahahaaa.. what a lovely couple

  42. “Both will get the love of a good woman.”

They have that even when on their own.

  43. Is this what Miles Davis meant by the enigmatic “Bitches Brew”?

  44. Now I’m sure Henry had a career before spending 9 months on the wing at Highbury………ho hum……

He struggled there too on ocasion (pre Arsenal) as he ‘learn’t his trade’. Not first choice in France 98……then the rest is history……….

I love the idea of Walcott at CB, Cruyff’s ideas still stand, look at Barca this year and what Arsenal can
    become in the next 10.

  45. Good point Grim

  46. No, bitches brew is what the lesser Ronaldo calls his…

    No, I won’t say it.

  47. Football boots?
    um … socks?
    erm … team-mates?
    aaarggh … hairstyle?

  48. Henry spent 9 months on the wing?? Walcott has spent 3 years on the wing and he is still not comfortable with it. He doesn’t know how to get himself into the game playing on the flanks! Anelka is not a winger but he plays there and u can clearly see that he is not effective from that position. Walcott is the same, he has the same attributes as Anelka! Walcott is a striker that’s the bottom line!

  49. Is that a biblical reference Queen?

  50. I think Pol was trying not to talk about “Safe Hands”…

  51. Benitez strikes again! 17 million for Glen Johnson – even though he was valued at 8 million in January.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/8102625.stm

    What a genius.

  52. Very good, QoS. Alas, I’ve just made myself puke.

  53. Raphael is deperately trying to bankrupt Liverpool. Give the man his due.

  54. ha ha ha …

  55. Safe hands?

Is that what the lesser one called himself when he worked on the streets of Lisbon?

  56. Wenger annoys me. Nasri requested to play central midfield and wenger bowwed down and agreed to him playing there, when walcott request to play up front, there’s always an excuse, maybe it’s because Walcott is a goody goody!! The way I see it, players like Nasri should not be allowed to dictate to the boss about where he plays, if nasri can do it then Walcott should pressure manager into playing him where he is comfortable & that is up front!

  57. “Benitez strikes again! 17 million for Glen Johnson – even though he was valued at 8 million in January. ”

No worries. The coming january he’d be worth 8 million, and liverpool will sell him back for that amount to Portsmouth.

  58. In those days he sure dribbled a lot.

  59. But to little effect as I recall.

  60. Ateeb

    it wouldnt surprise me… really!

  61. Na-Sei,

“The way I see it, players like Nasri should not be allowed to dictate to the boss about where he plays, if nasri can do it then Walcott should pressure manager into playing him where he is comfortable & that is up front!”

I aggree!!! Do you think it had something to do with our manager being French and so is Nasri? And Walcott is English. And the French and English fought many wars a long time back.

  62. Then Fergie saw him and bought him.

  63. I agree with Ateeb, who agress with Na-Sei.

This kind of skullduggery has GOT TO STOP.

    Like the 100 years war.

  64. Are you trying to give me nightmares, ZimPaul?

  65. lol. You think Fergie sold him because he couldn’t dribble anymore?

  66. So sorry Pol, got carried away, as usual.

    A disprin might help.

  67. Walcot would be better then Vela. He deserves his shot up front.

  68. Oh man, this sh*t has got to stop, but before it does let me just point out that his dribbling might have become weaker, but his shooting improved.

  69. And on that note

    mercy, mercy, mercy …

I am worried about what the lesser Paris might make of all of this. Give new love a chance I say.

  70. Jolly, I can’t believe you want Theo to be shot up front. Give the lad a break. It’s a game, not a war. This kind of language has gone way too far.

  71. I heard a rumour that Walcot is made to sit on the floor in the dreesing room and they all throw there jock strap at him

  72. Na-Sei,

    Should we sell Walcott then?

  73. Walcott has a lot of ability but upfront he doesn’t have the hold up skills and the decision making to work there at the moment. On the wing he is too one dimensional although he can be a huge danger.

Nasri on the other hand has shown potential to play deeper. He hasn’t pressured Wenger; just he has shown greater development. He pressures well, harries opposition, good passer and great energy. It may be five more years till we see Walcott up front.

  74. I humbly apologise for some of my posts today. I blame Pz who led me astray with his streets of lisbon and Queen who made biblical references. I am also sorry for giving Pol nightmares though.

  75. You think Lesser Paris knows his dribbling is weak, but she’s ok with it because the hotel she lives, in has been open for a long time……I don’t know wher I am going with this.

  76. If Walcott isn’t ready to play on the wings and he has 3 strikers ahead of him, maybe we should either keep him on the bench or sell him.

  77. The Brain

To my knowledge i think we have seen glimpses of Walcott up front.. not many but there are many indications to suggest Wenger will soon give him a run there. The last year we struggled for form, i bet if the team was performing as good as the last season and we had less injuries in the wide midfield department theo would have got more opportunities.

Next season you will eat your own words mate

  78. or shoot him

  79. im not one to have a go at our own players but ive really had enough of the players lifting their skirts when the hint of a bigger ‘d*£K’ comes along!!!

Sagna should not be openly so flirtatious!! yes maybe real are bigger than us and granted loads of players have wet dreams over them at night but no need for him to take the piss so openly. if players are not commited then i think we should let them go or consider cashing in when the price is right. That goes for Ade aswell – if your not commited we look for the best price – if ur commited then shut da f*ck up and work with us!!!!

You dont openly say u want to work for your rivals when the boss and all the shareholders are in the room unless ur looking to get ur P45!!!

  80. Ole Gunner

If Walcott wasnt ready to play on the wings Wenger wouldnt pick him for the most part of a season there

  81. Ade should shorten his stride also…

    i think.

  82. geeGunner

I can understand your point of view, its like me telling my boss im sending my cv to other companies while im still working there. The only problem is in the football industry the other clubs and rivals have all our players cv’s already. So their comments welcome or not dont make a difference.

Like our mighty captain Cesc stated.. “its like a trap”

  83. “granted loads of players have wet dreams over them at night but no need for him to take the piss so openly”

This has got to stop. I don’t think thats even possible. Do they have dreams of the staidum or what? It’s improper to suggest such phrases on a decent blog site.

  84. Ateeb

    Ive heard alot worst !!!!!!!!!

  85. ChrisGOONA,

As I understand it from the website. Bac was just back from his holiday in Dubai. The hack calls him and tels him he’s wanted by RM.

Bac says; I am not up to date with anything. He was probably asked: Are your ruling it out? He says I can’t rule anything out, but my plan was to be back at Arsenal for pre-season. We’ll see what happens.

It’s not flirtation. It sounds like a reasonable comment to me.

As you said before it looks like a trap. virtually anything he says about the issue will be used against him. If you’ve been on vacation and in your absence Arsenal was discussing with RM the possibility of selling you….

Would you, with no further knowledge say: I rule out the possibility of going to Real Madrid?

  86. ChrisGoona: I don’t mind eating my words because I wish the best to Wlacott. But my point is he still requires much work. He started football at 12, missing the much of the ‘golden ages’ of learning between 8-13.

There isn’t much more a player can learn technically when they’ve reached 18 but mentally it is the biggest difference. Look at RVP and you see his decision making and playing has a team has dramatically increased, tracking back and generally being less selfish.

There is more to learn but in five years time Walcott will be 25, same as RVP.

  87. And this is a decent blogsite …

I don’t want any of our players lifting their skirts.

  88. Na-Sei

I am regretting writing this as I type it but…….

My point was Henry played as a winger in his career upto and including his 9 months there for Arsenal.

He had difficulties in his development but overcame them to become the player he is.

That experience on the wing led to him being a better all round player.

In time Walcott will become the striker I am sure you see him to be, but with that experience to back him up.

    Regards…….

  89. I dont get the big attraction about RM..???!!!!

Sure they have won a bunch of champions league medals and la ligas… but it dont hide any of the discontent in their ranks and board room squabblings every season. They are a circus of a club with no morales, apart from money and prestige of actually playing for them a player has no other motivation.

Ronaldo and Kaka can say that they expect to win titles etc… but if Barca continue with their footballing methods Madrid will find it very hard to build a team that will get anywhere near Barcas level of play no matter who they buy. I think its down to the glamour of playing for them, the lifestyle and the money..

I hate Barca just as much, but you must appreciate good football, at the moment RM are a long way behind.

  90. some of u guys (zimpaul, ateeb & poliziano)have made me crack up big time over ur comments :) keep it up boys!i like ur post yogi.i’m usually on le-grove but this is a nice blog too.

  91. ole gunner – if you know ur words will be twisted then why give the opportunity. surely he has seen how cesc has to deny saying this that and the other to the media. so bac so naively answers a question without the thought of possible consequences.

Its very flirtatious – he just signed a extension to his contract like a few months back. he should have come out with “its up to the club” not “i would be interested” regardless if he is interested he should not be so openly flirtatious. it just shows a lack of respect to the club, his colleagues and the fans!!
Look at Cesc and Clichy commiting to the club without question – and bac lifting his skirt at the hint of the possibility of a move. Thats taking the piss in my book.

  92. not sure abt the Sagna link because Arbeloa was also linked with Madrid. The papers will twist & write anything nowadays.i believe he’s a loyal player & if he is interested,he should think – will i seriously get ahead of Ramos or sit on the bench as his backup?

  93. Um … Dr. Ateeb, there’s a patient in the waiting room.

  94. Transfer rumours: I don’t rate Glen Johnson as a defender, yet Liverpool is considering £17m for him. Is he worth all that money?

  95. Sagna is going nowhere, unless Wenger plans to stick Eboue there again!!

  96. Luke

If Johnson is worth 17m then Sagna is worth 37m

  97. geeGunner,

Naiive maybe, flirtatious I don’t think. Again, he’s just back from holiday. He doesn’t know anything.

Maybe players should learn to just keep their mouths shut. Just don’t talk about it.

Whatever the case may be, I don’t think Wenger will sell Sagna to RM.

  98. There is 0.00000000000000001 chance of Sagna going.

  99. Ole Gunner

wenger knows better than anyone that stability is the key, he will try his best to hold onto every player this summer… but as the saying goes… every player has their price. Arsenal fans know better than anyone, that also every player is replacable.

  100. Zp,

Ahem….Let me change my costume. Like that whatever his name guy changes into the superman costume…..

  101. Not a bad concept for a new super-hero.

  102. 17 mill for johnson – thats 2 sagna’s about 4 eboues, over 20 clichys/toures, shit thats more than cole and gallas, vidic, da silva twins, more than boswinga.

typical rafa ‘Checkbook’ benitez was he the guy that rented keane from spud u like for 20mil for 3 months?

  103. The Doomer's Family

I aggree with Gee gunner. I think it nothing short of slutiness on part of Sagna. He just signed an extention to his contract, and then suddenly he wants to make love to Madrid, while we watch him. Thats not only distgraceful but disgusting. Who wants to see their love ones make love to another person…umm…club. Sagna had a commitment with us, in writing, thats nothing short of a marriage. Sure he can get a divorce, but then he has got to come in and tell us that he doesn’t love us. Which he didn’t. This sort of whorish behavior should be minimised, for the success of our club. We should identify all sluts in our club, and get rid of them ASAP, to secure our future.

  104. Do not mock Benitez, he’s still concentrating on rotation, he can’t do everything at once.

  105. If Sagna doesn’t love us, I’m going on a big sulk.

  106. Ole gunner – i dont think wenger would sell without a replacement just as good but i was pissed off reading that as a fan/supporter. Imagine how wenger must feel knowin he turned them down to wrk with the club and players for one of the players to come out with the total opposite!!

  107. Wenger sets the example, they should all follow or find another club.. your with us or without. Sagna will soon come out and confirm his actual intentions. Just like Clichy did.

  108. The Doomer's Family

I am crying while typing this but….Sagna was the last person I expected to come out like that and lift his skirt. Stop it Geegunner, you’re making me cry. WHY WHY WHY!!! Why couldn’t Sagna just shut up, or just run away when the jornalist approached him. He had a chance, how easily was he corrupted. It’s Ade’s fault, for perverting the poor soul. He was so pure when he joined us, but when you have friends like Ade you can’t expect anything else. Bad company, took our love away. FU** U REAL MADRID and ADE!!!!!

  109. hahaaha this discussion is quite hilarious, think every Arsenal fan knows Sagna will probably be with us for a few more years at LEAST!!!

  110. I don’t think Sagna will go. Real Madrid want to sign a central defender, left back and central midfielder. Johnson will go Liverpool meaning Arbeloa will probably go Madrid, pushing Ramos to centre back. But RM do not need a RB.

  111. The Brain

I dont care what they need, you honestly think Wenger would sell Sagna to RM???? The guy is a rock and ever present!

  112. I remember Capello saying not to long ago that Walcott will be “the man” for England. He’s got pace and Wenger is making sure he doesn’t become another Michael Owen. The problem with most English fans is that they appreciate brawn over skill. Well welcome to the world of the technical footballer – even if he’s english!

  113. Why do people read the media and then believe what they have read. Every fan of every club knows the hacks need to make money or lose their jobs.

What is a small twisting, of a players words, worth in the media world?

If you must read that garbage please treat it for what it is and ignore it.

Cesc said “It is easy to fall into their trap”.

It is also easy to fall for their crap.

  114. back……..

  115. Walcott may be a gentleman, but I wish he’d stop making those comments about other clubs fearing Arsenal. Something bad always happens afterwards and it makes us look silly.

  116. This Walcott is a striker and should play as striker thing baffles me. As does the “Wenger should play people in their natural positions”. Is it just me or is the concept of “natural position” very 1960s?

I get that players should play where they are comfortable. And I do know that certain players don’t have the skillset to play certain positions. But look at the average professional footballer and it’s rare to find one who’s only played one role in his career. Very very rare.

I don’t think Ferguson is wrong to have Rooney cover for Evra on the left. That’s where the team needs him to play. And Ferguson won’t have him do that if Rooney didn’t have the attributes to do it.

  117. if walcot had nasri’s/arshavins football brain and intelligence walcot would be as dangerous as messi. unfortunately he hasnt and appears very one dimensional against a good defender.

I think everyone knows he is a striker on the wing but he needs to use his brain on the wing more rather than his pace and natural instinct. He has a good touch, bit of skill and of course pace but i think his finishing might be his real asset and we have not really got to see that aspect of his game as much as he is doing the wing thang!!

He has got a bit of time to develop and working with top quality full backs can only improve him but ive seen better prospects at the same age. eden hazzard, mario bolothelo, wilshire etc. but i think he will come good for us

  118. I am predicting that 1 player will leave this summer, a player of Wenger’s choice, and a player who Wenger feels cant give no more to the team… this will allow a new signing or for Rosicky and Eduardo to come back into the frame.

  119. @ Chris Goona: Please read my comment again. I said Sagna won’t go.

Regarding Walcott, mentally he has a lot of work to do. One of my other comments covers this to.

  120. “if walcot had nasri’s/arshavins football brain and intelligence walcot would be as dangerous as messi.”

Are you suggesting a brain transplant surgery for Theo?

    Whats a football brain?

Is it possible to play with a football brain without squashing or injuring it?

  121. Ateeb – football brain – a bit like how neo see’s things in the matrix. some players like cesc, nasri, arshavin (playmakers) are so in tune with the matrix that they can see shit before it happens or see the bigger picture quicker than the other analogue peoples!!!!

Theo is somewhat analogue in his thinking! sometimes he does things that make us think he is intune with the matrix or could it have been a glitch in the matrix?

I think he needs fishborne to give him a blue pill or is it the red one

  122. The Brain, Hw can you sy Sagna will go? Dont be a fool Sagna aint going anywhere. Its people like yourself and chrisgoona talking shit that brings doom on the emirates

  123. Walcot is much better then Nasri, give the lad some cresit, Nasri is shite

  124. The Doomer’s family,

I know Le Sagna to Madrid affair has upset you but get a grip sir. You are the headquarters of a worldwide organisation. An icon. We look to you for guidance and daily strategy memos. You weeping like this is a ‘Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah’s couch’ moment for us. We are devastated. Will slash my wrists any moment now.

    Agent 000 (number not assigned)

  125. Who is this Neo guy? Who does he play for?

    What’s a matrix?

  126. Woah, woah. Back up a moment.

When did Nasri suddenly become ‘shite’?

  127. here comes the voice of arsena fans!!!

  128. Jolly Rodger

‘talking shit’ ???? please quote me as doing so please

  129. Jolly Rodger

Nasri is shite…. i think everything that comes ur mouth actually smells more like it mate ;)

  130. Chris,

I think that was Jolly Rodger’s attempt at sarcasm.

  131. he failed then

  132. So what we should be doing is changing our footballing philosophy and convert our style of play into matrix way, not the arsenal way???

Maybe we can use this matrix to scout and buy players, might be more cost effective…

  133. The Doomer's Family

    Doom Monger,

I apologize for my behavior earlier. It’s just Sagna was the last person we expected to lift the skirt. And it was heart breaking for us, because he is the only French player that we try our best not to slate. Don’t worry, now, we’re working on something new. I think it’s Ade is the one that has set a bad example in this squad. Since his couple of dates with Madrid, he’s never felt like the same person. And he’s corrupting other players as well. He’s spreading his slut germs all around. No need to slash your wrist, we’ll use this news to our advantage.

As for your assignment, could you work with YW to delete the earlier comment where I lost it. I don’t want the word to spread. I know people haven’t looked at Cruise the same way ever since he ” umm….jumped on the sofa”.

  134. “Who is this Neo guy? Who does he play for?”

Neo is a galactico in the intergalactic league. He plays for the club Nebuchadnezzar. He was an computer hacker who found his true calling in intergalactic football. His agent is that known wheeler dealer Morpheus. Trinity is the WAG.

  135. @ Jolly Rodger: Another person that can’t read. I said Sagna won’t go. I just came here to have a good football debate but right now it full of people that can’t read and at times funny but ultimately sarcastic comments.

To JR Tolkien this is what I said: “I don’t think Sagna will go. Real Madrid want to sign a central defender, left back and central midfielder. Johnson will go Liverpool meaning Arbeloa will probably go Madrid, pushing Ramos to centre back. But RM do not need a RB.”

I feel like Cesc Fabregas, refuting claims of going to Barca. Jee whiz.

  136. Now of course using analogue, some say, offers a purer footballer than the chopped up and compressed digital footballer.

A head full of Tube Valves.

  137. Just saw another example of a player using Arsenal’s name to secure himself a bumper new deal at his existing club.

    http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/06/16/Ligue-1-Jelen-signs-new-deal/gnid-57171/

Atleast he is honest about it. Every season, using Arsenal’s name gets so many players and agents massive paydays.

  138. “Now of course using analogue, some say, offers a purer footballer than the chopped up and compressed digital footballer.

A head full of Tube Valves.”

Yeah but you dont get the super sloooooo mo when analogue players do the knee slide towards the camera that makes everythin look supper koool wit a k

  139. damn, Alex, wished that worked for me. I’ll just claim Arsenal are tapping me up and see what happens!

  140. Alex Ice Cream

I wouldn’t much care if Eboue left. He is a reserve rightback at best and should not play more than a handful of games per season.

he claims (apparently) that he does not play enough but I would argue the contrary. He has made over 60 appearances in 2 seasons which is 50 too many. He is simply not good enough to be a regular and should be grateful that he has played as often as he has – which is too often.

  141. AIC,

if Eboue leaves who will cover for Sagna at right back? Besides we could always do with a useful squad player cant we? If he wants to leave then best of luck to him but I dont think we should take the initiative and unload him.

  142. To me Theo was one of the biggest letdowns last season. He is just not consistent enough. It alright having tons of pace but its what you do with the ball that counts.Too many times last season a full back sussed him out in the first ten minutes then he ended up running into blind alleys. Its time for Theo to deliver the excuses for him that is still young dont wash anymore.Cesc was a first team regular at 17,Theo is now 21

  143. chrisgoona, you and brain talk shit, sagna aint going you fool.

Nasri is shite compared to walcot, he’s shite compared to hoyte

  144. Jolly Rodger, have met met before? On this blog?

  145. met = we.

  146. Grim I understand what your saying but my argument is that wenger has too much loyalty to his French players, nasri against Chelsea was a clear indication that he can’t play that central midfield role he does not have the defensive instincts off the ball, he let anelka walk past him without a challenge and without pressing the ball and this is the result of a player who is great on the ball but off the ball he is not up to scratch. As for Walcott, I feel wenger is taking his kindness for weakness, I remember in a champions league game at the emirates and walcott played up top and was devestating, he scored two goals and was involved In alot of play, I.e holding up the ball and bring other players into play. Ever since then wenger took him out, it’s as if he don’t want the headache of having to play Walcott up front because he knows he can do a better job than adebayor. He has done the same thing with vela, vela is a great striker and finisher, he can hold up the ball, bring players into play, makes great runs down the channels and he can finish but wenger doesn’t want the headache so he puts him on the wing. It’s ridiculous! Just because it worked for Henry don’t mean it will work for Walcott! Wenger should play him up front before his confidence is completely drained

  147. I won’t believe, and choose not to believe, all that is written about the comings and the goings until I actually see it happens, no matter how credible the stories. There are lots of posturings by players, agents and some managers (not ours though) and sending messages intended for (other clubs, their own/other managers) testing the willing, the greedy, the principled, etc. for responses.

By the way, am I the only dumb guy who thought Paris Hilton is the Hilton Hotel in Paris? :D

  148. I think Walcot made a promising start to the season and then he gets injured on international duty putting him out for 4 – 5 months. He never really managed to get his form back once he returned.

The thing to remember is that players with the pace and finishing of Walcot create space for other players even when they don’t have the ball. He’s young and still learning and I think that anyone who has the support of Capello and Wenger deserves a little time.

  149. Na-Sei,

“Ever since then wenger took him out, it’s as if he don’t want the headache of having to play Walcott up front because he knows he can do a better job than adebayor”

FUCK OFF!!! Why in God’s name would a manager deliberately try to sabotage the team and result of a match? Grow some fuck** brain and then return. Actually no need to return, dumb f***!!!

  150. Yes Luke, you are the only dumb guy who thought that. You also happen to be the only 29 year old who still wets pants

  151. Ateeb, that was a bit harsh coming from someone who thinks we should of kept Senderos, you foolish boy

  152. Alex Ice Cream

    Alex,

Yes I agree. if he wants to go then he should. I have no problem with keeping him otherwise but I wouldn’t want him to play as many games as he has done in the last 2 seasons.

  153. Jolly Rodger = Arse21

  154. Agree that Jolly Rodger = Arse21

  155. Alex,

And why do you think he got so many games? Surely must have something to do with so many injuries all around the team. And he did a admirable job covering at various positions.

    Jolly Rodger,

I’ll take Sendros over many realistic players tat we can buy and you can name.

Lescott, Micah Richards, Zapatta….BEEEP!!! Wrong Answer.

  156. The sooner everyone stops worshiping the nancy boys who flit about doing sod all (Nasri, Song, Denilson, Diaby, Eboue, Rocisky) the quicker we can start being taken seriously again. Lets get rid of the shite and start again. A new movement – No more money for tosh

  157. Na-Sei, finally you have spelt out your agenda. Diaby fancies himself as a central midfielder but Wenger still thinks he needs to learn to use his left foot more and also acquire the ability to beat a fullback. He played Diaby on the left wing till Arshavin was purchased.

Arshavin who is a second striker or playmaker by trade was deemed good enough by Wenger in the interest of the team to play on the left wing and offer us penetration in an area we were weak in because of Rosicky’s injury.

Diaby is French. Arshavin is Russian. Are you suggesting Wenger is sabotaging their careers too?

Walcott is 20, has just signed a long term contract with the club and Wenger himself has said that eventually he will use him as a striker. Currently, Walcott cant be considered ahead of Van Persie, Eduardo or Adebayor for the striker role. When he is good enough he will play. Now please find some other issue to cry about.

  158. Ateeb you’d take whatever you could get with that face

  159. Jolly Rodger, I take it that you really rate Nasri and wish he played for your club.

  160. Jolly Rodger – Did you just actually call Rosicky a nancy boy who flits about doing sod all? One of the most talented players to have played at the club.

Who would you like to see us sign? I’m betting Kevin “Elbows” Davies is high up your list. A real mans player.

It will be the holiday of a lifetime, and no less than a top Rumourvore deserves.”

    Brilliant, BRL.

  163. .

  164. Dignitas is an excellent organisation. 100% customer satisfaction. At least, they’ve never had any complaints.

  165. I see Sagna has trashed the rubbish stories about the real madrid link.

    When will we learn?

Better still, how can we “teach” the @rsewipes in the media a solid lesson to stop this sh!t in future?

  166. Na-Sei

I am sorry, I did not pick up on your point about the ethnic preferences of the manager. My response was that Walcott like Henry is learning as well as aiding the team in all the games he plays, not unlike Henry who we all hope he can follow to such glories.

You feel that his confidence is being eroded by Wenger decisions of where to play him. Fair enough, but like Eboue, until the conflict, confidence problems, or be it arrogance of a young player are experienced and surmounted, then, then, it may be time to unleash a more complete player.

It was the point about Cruyff’s approach to total football in YW’s post that led me to broach the fact that this seems to be Wengers way with his young players, Henry of course being with him in Monaco.

As you say it may of worked for TH but not for Walcott.
Cesc may be different to any player we are likely to see…..ever.
And I am sure we will remain of different opinions.

  167. MikeSA, dont think we will ever stop the media as they need to make their money some how, inspite of the lies but is it possible for the supporters to stop jumping on every stupid story?

  168. I’ve said before, fans should get together and sue newspapers for the unnecessary distress caused! :-)
The important thing is not to take them seriously and start blaming the players.
At least this year a few Arsenal players have learnt from Addy”s problems last season and come out straight away to deny the rumours.

Fans turning against the players only harms the club. Last night on Setanta sports news some one texted in to say AW should sell Cesc and bring in “a real gooner”.
Has there been a more loyal player than Cesc, who didn’t go to watch Barca during his rehabilitation in Barcelona as he knew that would create rumours?
Yet we still get that sort of drivel!
Now a French source is regurgitating Eboue comments (maybe true) from a couple of weeks ago and everybody jumping on to that bandwagon.
So if he stays will he get booed again and his confidence destroyed!

  169. Since the Adebayor media debacle, the media hacks have found Arsenal fans – or at least big part – are so gullible and they believe anything they read, which in turn creates a crisis vacuum that turns those fans on their players, manager, and the club.

    Exactly what the media wants?

When I read the Sagna story headline, the first thing came to my mind is that it’s absolute trash, so I moved on to more important things. Don’t believe everything you read, have some logic of your own to assess what you read. Cesc swatted his Barca rumor, so they have to find someone else.

  170. mirabile dictu…

LG has been transformed today by an influx of apparently new voices…

informed, pleasant dialogue and argument…adult even…silly repetitive profanities minimised

well, well – wonder if it will last.

  171. Firstly Alex fix your face you bone head, if wenger feels he needs to put diaby as a left winger just so he can learn to use his left foot then that is ridiculous in itself, for me diaby should be able to use his left foot anyway plus if he see’s diaby as a central midfielder then play him there because that’s the only way he will improve his ability in that position. What is the point of playing diaby left wing if u want him to be a central midfielder in the future, it don’t make sense, diaby can’t pass accurately that’s why he played him on the left, the bottom line is he doesn’t know where to play diaby because he has too many players that want to play central. if anything diaby’s most effective position is behind the front one but obviously that position is v.persie’s! As for Walcott, everyone says he is young he will play up front when he is older but I didn’t hear wenger say this when anelka was introduced at the age of 18. I didnt hear wenger say anelka has to play on the wing to learn his trade, he played anelka where anelka wanted to be played and that us up top. Walcott has the same attributes as anelka, some would argue Walcott is even faster so my point is Arsenal would benefit if he plays up top simply because he can stretch the play and create space for others & he would put fear into centre backs.

  172. Paul N, I was thinking along the lines of an offshore fund used to hire some large gentlemen to pay “visits” to offending media mullets…………….

Wouldn’t it be luverly to see the outraged media turds publishing photos of these fat tits, blood pouring from broken noses and large, puffy eyes?

I’d pay good money for that dream to be realised.

Oh well, one can but dream…………………..

  173. A bit like how all the media moaned about what Joe Kinnear had to say about them, and apparently still fondly imagine anyone other than a “journalist” would share their views that it was out of order.

I imagine a large majority of footie fans thought it was truthful, accurate and very, very well deserved.

Personally, I’d love a lot more of the same.

  174. Na-Sei,

Whats with the abuse? Culture is not something you can even spell can you ignoranus? Your impotent rants are not going to change Walcott’s future. He is talented enough to do it himself and thats that.
He will be Arsenal’s star striker after he proves that he has decision making ability, dribbling skill, strength to hold the ball up and composure under pressure. He has the talent. You clearly dont.

  175. I’d love to see AW be totally blunt with them, can you just picture it?

“journalist”: what do you think of xyz?

AW: Would you like me to give you a genuine opinion that you can actually quote accurately, or would you prefer to just make something up like you usually do?

  176. I’d like to see the media treated with the contempt they so richly deserve.

Why are they given decent seats at games?

If they get let in at all they should be made to stand around the stairwells, and get shouted at to move out the way when fans need to pass.

Why on earth do they get fed by the club at half time?

They should be made to queue for burgers and whatever else behind any proper fans who are looking for service. (Including opposition fans)

Any fan should be able to push in front of them in any queue in the ground, anywhere.

They should be treated as the scum of the earth, as a sort of sub=-standard species, which is exactly what they are.

  177. lol @ Blazon. Really? You enjoy it while it lasts.

Nobody voted for Geoff, hahahahaha. Hilarious. And he got enough votes for Le chump, and he’s blaming the AKBS. F***. I don’t think anyone from here even bothered voting.

  178. Yes Ateeb that was funny. Being voted by some 70 people as Le Chump – a term G*off himself thought of. Lets not hope it will be a reality check for him though. He is seriously deluded.

  179. Best comment of the day from the others:

“CANA CANA CANA CANA CANA CANA CANA CANACANA CANA CANA CANACANA CANA CANA!!!!”

    Where is Kirby?
If you’re reading this, please note that that Song and Denilson do alot of “Ball watching”.

  180. With all these players lifting their skirts, it’s hard to avoid a certain amount of ball watching.

  181. I agree with MikeSA…sorry MiikeSA

  182. lol @ Pz.

  183. I don’t know about other sites but anyone who did not vote for RvP as player of the season knows fuck all about football and should not be allowed to vote next season unless they have shown demonstrable signs of improvement in their ability to assess footballers.

  184. Arsene must surely be doing something right, if all our players have been linked with the big clubs of Europe. I haven’t seen a single rumour circulating where anyone would like to buy Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, and Nani. You may argue that they don’t lift their skirts high enough, but I’d suggest that they are a really untalented bunch of players.

  185. Well, there I was, all ready to have a right old spoilt Princess hissy fit and scream and scream till I was sick, all over Nanny’s feet coz Sagna had come out and said he wanted to go to Madrid and before I’d managed to bring up a single chopped carrot….. He only comes out and denies the quotes!!!????

The effin spoil sport…. waah waah waah..!!

  186. Well, I thought Nasri had a blindin season, considering it was his 1st for us… Not only did he play in several positions, was dangerous, scored quite a few goals, his workrate and defensive work were fantastic…

  187. Frank,

I think you haven’t been following our team since Feburary. We bought the Russian Savior that helped us secure the fourth spot. He has been a revelation, and carried the team to various victories. What happened before feburary, has been forgotten. Its Arshavin all over the blogs. I commend his contribution, but as you said anyone who doesnt rate RVP as player of the season knows fuck all about football. And personally Gallas and Denilson should be rated higher than Arshavin in any case.

  188. California Gooner

So, apparently Yaya Toure is set to sign a new contract at Barca. Too bad. But here is a thought: a straight swap, Adebayor for Yaya? I think you could even go like for like on salaries since apparently Yaya can earn a lot now…

I know this is just a way of playing championship manager, but does anyone like/particularly dislike the idea?

  189. Ateeb, everyone knows our players are great except for some Arsenal fans.

  190. I have a strong distatse for such ideas. Yaya Toure, is a fine player, but to trade him with one of the top 5 strikers in Europe would be idiotic.

  191. The Yaya bollocks has been nuffin but that… His agent wanted to let the barca big knobs know his client had options to leave if they didnt give his client (and him too, of course) a nice fat pay rise…

  192. Ateeb,
I don’t think you understand the skirt-lifting business. A player might wear a short skirt to attract attention, but actually lifting one’s skirt before definite interest has been shown could put off a potential suitor.

  193. For example many of ours players, before they came out to deny that they lifted any skirts. I get it.

  194. Spike,

So, basically, Yaya’s agent was helping Yaya lift his skirt, so he could make the one he wants(Barca) to feel jealous and come running after him with more gifts?

  195. Basically, the agent was simply telling barca that Yaya was sick of waiting at the bar and had caught the eye of the sharp suited gent at the corner table, who wanted buy him a drink, Yay was just about to accept the handsome starngers offer of a Malibu and lemonade when Barca decided, at the last moment to offer him a Bacardi and coke …. and a bag of honey roasted peanuts…

  196. But, as Spike tells us, “The Yaya bollocks” were revealed to be “nuffin,” so his suitors lost interest.

  197. haha………

  198. the thought of men in skirts is bad enough much less lifting them.

  199. Andrei Arshavin is a fantastic player, but I think that he would agree that anyone who voted for him as player of the season is a bit of a prick and knows very little about football at all.

  200. I agree to vote AA player of the season is a joke and a total lack of respect to those who fought all season long for the team.

Quite simple minded some of the fans!

  201. Evening all,
well at least i voted for RVP,does that give one provisional membership.

  202. PTL \o/

  203. In fact to vote for AA as player of the season you would have to have the attention and memory span of a gnat, and I don’t mean relatively. Of course the memory span of a gnat compared to the longevity of the adult stage of a gnat is probably quite long, but in absolute terms and compared to a human adult it is almost terminally small. In fact if an adult human had the attention span of an adult gnat in absolute terms, no doctor in the word would hesitate in diagnosing extreme dementia. Paradoxically the doctor would have no need for such a diagnosis because the patient would clearly forget to take his/her next breath. Otherwise known as the curse of Ondine. But I think in fact that our erstwhile football experts the ones who voted for AA as player of the season are quite simply frequent perpetrators of the sin of Onan.

  204. But is it true, kelsey?

  205. Wow,
    how do you follow that.

  206. Of course it’s true,Frank

  207. geeGunner – I think Sagna is waiting for your apology.

This is why the media continue with their BS because there are people like you only too willing to believe everything they claim despite the countless times they are proven to be liars.

  208. Are you sure, kelsey?

  209. Just bored today so I checked the stock on the PLUS website. Looks like Kroenke picked himself up 9 more shares today at a price just above 7000 GBP each. Not a bad day’s work if you can get it. His share percentage didn’t change as 9 odd shares means f-all when you’ve got more than 17000. He’s still a little more than 28%.

On another note I just finished reading “Rebels for the Cause.” An excellent, excellent read. Some immense players throughout The Arsenal’s illustrious history. An area of the club where my knowledge is sorely lacking. It is great reading for the close season and really provides some context to the current doomer brigade’s spouting. One line comes to mind (page 173 if you’re interested):

“This was Arsenal, not Spurs, where signing the occasional crowd-pleaser has been a method used to silence disgruntled, trophy-starved supporters.”

This is the Arsenal, you lot playing football manager and slating the players, the management, and the supporters for not bringing in the flavor of the month, should go down to shite hart lane and become spurs fanboys. And those of you who go on and on about how you’ve been season ticket holders for 30 years should remember your history better.

  210. Vic Akers came 4th – didn’t play many games though

  211. Queen of Suburbia

Persoanlly I think that the vote of AA for player of the season fits perfectly with a “what have you done for me lately” culture prevalent on that site.

After all, it’s their justifcation for slagging off the board and the manager, plus Toure and a few others….

  212. Yes, Rebels for the Cause is good.

  213. “Andrei Arshavin is a fantastic player, but I think that he would agree that anyone who voted for him as player of the season is a bit of a prick and knows very little about football at all.”

Couldn’t agree more, but I’m not surprised as the average football fan seems to have the attention span of a goldfish. They only seem to remember the last thing they saw. It’s a complete insult to the likes of RVP and Denilson and even Gallas who worked hard for the team all season.

  214. Vic Akers came 4th – didn’t play many games though

  215. I voted for Keiran Gibbs….

  216. kelsey Says:
    June 16, 2009 at 09:23

I am a little surprised in the voting.Cesc didn’t have his best season but at only 21 when the season started and allowing for his injury,to get only 2% I find incredible.

To me Gallas was our best player at least in the second half of the season, until injured and doesn’t even feature.

I warmed to Bedntner in the latter part of the season, and again he didn’t feature.

Steve Bould is 3rd and vic Akers 4th, both did good jobs with the youth and ladies respecively, so as far as I am concerned there doesn’t seem to be much appreciation for our first teamers and promising players like Wilshere,Vela and Walcott don’t even get a mention.Or are 3543 voters saying most of our players don’t even deserve a mention.I voted for RVP by the way.
    ————————————————

I am sure you may have read this in any case Frank, but nevertheless here it is again.

  217. Steve Bould came 3rd

  218. I am sure that Cesc will be fine, but I agree with Passenal, Alonso is a liability. Don’t want him anywhere near our players on a training pitch. We have players who will outperform him next season so he is yesterdays news.

Also well done, Bacary. Put the record straight immediately. Arsenal through and through, son.

  219. hahahaha enjoyed your 8:32 comment Frank, if it made any sense it’d fit in nicely in one of Heller’s character descriptions in Cache 22…

What is wrong in voting AA as player of the season? It is a democratic process isn’t it?

  220. No I didn’t read it. Thank you, kelsey. I just picked up on the comment on here that AA had come first. You posted that on the LeGrove did you?

  221. California Gooner

I’m only online sporadically right now, but I can’t agree with you guys knocking Ya Ya. He is an amazing player, combining power and strength with finesse. There is nothing bollocks about him. As for Ade, top 5 strikers in Europe? I just don’t agree. He is very good when he works hard but totally replaceable IMHO. Anyhow, it was a pretty ‘what if’ kind of post, so no big deal if we don’t see eye-to-eye.

  222. Phil Brown was voted worst player of the season

  223. Naah, Yaya is too mentally unstable for Arsenal. No staying power.

  224. I did, Frank

  225. YaYa bollox – lost in translation

  226. Why, kelsey?

  227. I voted for Yaya

  228. Has Arshavin actually been voted player of the season? Where?

  229. I do like Yaya, good strong player, not sure about menatally but he gave Chelsea a hard time in the 2nd leg.

Ade however is not a replaceable player to me. Its funny that defenders have a hard time playing against him by their own admission but many think he doesnt do that much.

  230. Why did I vote for RVP or why did I post a response to the headline post on LG.

To answer, I believe RVP merited the award over the whole season, and obviously as a poster on LG i disagreed with the vote and expressed my own opinion.

  231. Anyway, I know where you are coming from, so i will leave it there,Goodnight Frank and all.

  232. No, cos Steve Bould came 3rd

  233. Erm, I am not sure about Ade, personally. He is deffo replaceable IMO, if he wants to go that is. I also think the formation we will be playing next season may not suit his game and think it WILL suit Eduardo’s more…

Saying that, ALL players are replaceable! They have to be, otherwise the club wouldve ceased to be a long long time ago!

  234. Ade’s stats are good.
    80k a week.

  235. On LG picking Arshavin as the player of the season, some fans value quality above quantity.

  236. Steve Bould came 3rd – how could it be player of the season?

  237. It was a vote for who brightened up the season the most…….Arshavin by a country mile

  238. Any player is replaceable “if they want to go”, even Man U thinks that with letting Ronaldo go, however to act as if Ade would not be a big loss is rubbish. He is a massive player for Arsenal, yu betta believe dat!

  239. Perry;

Tou answring your own questions fella?

  240. He would be missed, not by bendtner tho! But, as I said, with the way we will be playing, he may not be a huge loss in terms of the outcome of games, although we couldnt rely on Eduardo being the sole front man

  241. Yeah baby.

  242. And if it was a vote for who was the hardest working/conscientous/choir boy looking player then Denilson might have got the nod ;)

Arshavin arguably saved our champions league bacon so I think that’s enough reason to vote him player of the season.

Gallas would have been my choice, and maybe Almunia.

  243. nice one dickbrain

  244. Queen of Suburbia

Paulinho – I can understand the point but in that case, the vote should have been “who do you think is our most talented player” because it would be hard to argue that AA contributed the most over the season, as talented as he is.

  245. Queen of Suburbia

You could argue that Cesc had a large bearing on our CL qualification at the busines end too…and everybodies favourite high wage earner…

Although, i think if helping us get 4th was the criteria then Martin O’Neill should have been in with a shout!

  246. Replying to yourself again Perry?

Queen, yeah I agree, but I can see why people chose him. Almunia would be my choice actually.

  247. Queen of Suburbia

I wonder who would have got it last year on there btw?

The way he is now feted, surely Flamini by a landslide.

  248. I can’t believe Cesc is injured again. Bloody Alonso. Is it the same knee as before?

  249. Queen of Suburbia

Anyone want to chip in and have Alonso whacked?

  250. Is it a bad injury?

  251. Queen of Suburbia

    On Alonso? No.

    Not yet.

  252. It would have been a near impossible task Queen.

Everyone chipped in and played an important role.

  253. Queen of Suburbia

You know you want to say Hleb ;-)

I think if you took the vote for 07/08 season today then it’d be Flamini in a landslide. Which probably just shows how perspectives have changed.

I’d have voted for Ade in 07/08 and in 08/09 I’d have been torn between RVP, Denilson and Almunia probably settling on RVP.

  254. Setanta reports that the knee injury isn’t thought to be serious, but he will miss tomorrow’s game. Don’t know any more than that.

No need for anyone to chip in – I’ll whack Alonso for nothing.

(Note to any lawyers or law enforcement agencies: above words spoken in jest and should in no way be taken as an expression of future intent.)

  255. Do you hear that, lawyers and law enforcement agencies. If Alonso gets whacked in the next couple of days, it definitely wasn’t FunGunner.

  256. It must be subconscious envy of Fabregas that makes Alonso keep injuring him.

  257. this year my player of the season was song absolutely brilliant and quite rightly replaced denilson in cm, when he got jaded.

  258. Sorry Queen, I thought the the original question was who would you pick as runner up to Hleb.
    :)

  259. 2007/8 winner in my eyes was flamini cmae from nowhere to be petit v2 gutted he left.

  260. It must be subconscious envy of Fabregas that makes Alonso keep injuring him.

    Yup! :)
Cesc is younger, better-looking, plays for a better club…

  261. ‘Arshavin arguably saved our champions league bacon so I think that’s enough reason to vote him player of the season….’

Says it fucking all really. Memory and attention span of gnats. Fucking disgrace. Apart from the obvious inaccuracy of the statement, how can a player who scored six times with four goals scored in a drawn game have saved any part of the season?

What has Arsenal done to deserve such poor quality support? It defeats me.

  262. lol frank, agreed AA had a big impact but in no way could he be named player of the season

  263. Frank, don’t you remember how we were playing before came?

If you don’t then maybe you’re the one with the memory problems….

  264. We were playing great before AA came, we went on the unbeaten run prior to his arrival.

  265. I would say that Arshy gave the team a lift whe he arrived, which in turn helped the results, thereby enabling us to clinch 4th….

BUT, player of the season??? Nah, not for me…

  266. I remember players putting in many performances before and after he came, Paulinho , you prick.

No wonder neither Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp won the ball D’Or or Fifa World Player of the year and Frank lampard came runner up in both. It just proves that football supporters, press and establishment are by and large, arseholes. Arsenal has a greater share of arseholes than most clubs.

  267. “I remember players putting in many performances before and after he came, Paulinho , you prick.”

It’s a pity the performances weren’t much cop, eh Fwank the Wank?

Those memory problems coming into play again…..

  268. Just as a atarter…you think that Kieran Gibbs, Robin van Persie, Denison, Alex Song, Manuel Almunia did not put in many decent performances during the second half of the season, Paulinho?

  269. Arsenal would have gotten 4th regardless of AA. I think any new player will give the team a boost and yes AA was a great addition but our team was playing well before he came. Let us also not forget that we did get to the CL semi’s without his help.

  270. FFS! Does no one apart from me think nasri had a top season, all things considered?

  271. this is rather silly, a fan saying that the whole team is crap, save one player who came after mid season.

    Great supporter you are!

  272. I thought that Nick Bendtner really played well in the second half of the season….and Theo began to turn it on when he came back from injury…oh hang on that was in the second half of the season too.

  273. Yep, Samir Nasri really began to show his mettle, I agree.

  274. evening all…………night all.

  275. Frank what dude saying?

Is it that the players got better when AA arrived? Or did they play like crap still and AA won all the matches by himself? What about the matches we won before he came and the CL, how did the players manage to do that?

    How does it work?

  276. what is this dude saying?

  277. Good night Duke.

  278. Nasri is brilliant, cannot forget 2 against Man U, especially the 2nd, great strike and the best build up to any goal of any goal I have seen this season! Brilliant play and more to come next season!

  279. PZ, can I answer you question from yesterday since things are gettin quiet round ere?

  280. FFS! Does no one apart from me think nasri had a top season, all things considered?

    I do!

21 years old. The guy is going to be a legend.

  281. Just watching the Ben Kinsella program, sad old story.

Anyhoo Frank, I would have given it to Almunia. And yes, all the players you mentioned did play well at different times during the period after Arshavin’s arrival but I thought it was pretty obvious that Arshavin injected real verve and direction into our play when we most needed it. He also seemed to re-invigorate players like Denilson and Bendtner.

Everyone has a different criteria when it comes to these awards. Just look at Ryan Giggs getting the PFA player of the year award, simply because he played a few half decent games and is jolly good professional and all that.

That was him getting award out of the whole league of players, so Arshavin getting voted the best player out of a squad of relatively underachieving players is not that big of a deal.

  282. Yes FunGun, legend in the making!
Funny, I think every single player at Arsenal have the ability to be something really special. This team if kept together will be the best Arsenal team in history!

  283. haters!

  284. It really bothers me when “supporters” do not show appreciation for our team!

  285. @ Paul N

Carling Cup squad looks like it could be tasty as well, doesn’t it? Gibbs, Wilshere, Ramsey, Coquelin etc… Can’t wait!

  286. It is not a big deal to you, Paulinho. For me it demonstrates just how poor our supporters are when it comes to judging the performance of players.

  287. FunGunner I’m a huge fan of Nasri I think he has done well for us the best moment for me the goals against Manure of course but that kick he gave to bully boy Barton and tripped him over like a little girl he made my day and I laughed about it. and seeing Kegan having a go at Nasri for tripping his little darling Joe was even funnier.

  288. The choice of Andrei Arshavin as player of the season is simple-minded.

  289. @1loosecannon

Me, too! I liked him already, but that trip on Barton just did it for me.
Same with Sagna the year before, when he dumped Huddlestone on his ar*e after he’d got lairy with Almunia.

I love people who stand up to bullies.

  290. Not that I am advocating on-pitch violence, obviously… In case there are any children reading.
    If there aren’t, I am.

    Just kidding.

    Or am I?

  291. FG-We can’t forgive what Evra got fron RVP Fabregas and someone else was it Sagna? I don’t think the Evra thing is over they will get him next season not by kicking him but by making sure we smash the mancs and rub it in his face.

  292. They will get him next season not by kicking him but by making sure we smash the mancs and rub it in his face.

I think we can all drink to that!

  293. I think all the talk about our players been soft is just rubbish really. I have seen on many occasions were we really had to put up with so much hacking from the like of stoke and still managed to play good football.

  294. 1loosecannon: Some great team goals in there.

  295. This is good news for Arsenal about Clichy, but just a question: didn’t Henry learn to be a center forward at Arsenal? I could have sworn he was a winger at Juventus and for France before moving to Highbury, so I’m not so sure a little on the job training is impossible for the immensely talented Walcott

  296. great vid! is there a goal of the season?

  297. @1loose cannon
Thank you so much – what a great way to start my day.
By the way any notice how crap Nic B, Diaby and Eboue were in some of those amazing goals? Or how Denilson ruined them with his backwards passing? No me neither, this is a glimpse of what these lads will be doing to people up and down the country next season.

  298. Please help to get the Clock reinstalled in the Arsenal Stadium…..

    http://www.redaction.org.uk/front.html

  299. This clock should be reinstalled inside the stadium at the South End.

    http://www.arsenal.com/history/the-arsenal-clock

  300. Felipo Melo to Arsenal!!!

  301. Another fucking Tribalfootball reader!
