Are Arsenal Too Reliant On Wenger, Arshavin and More

So what’s new in the world of Arsenal? New away kit for next season, preserving the commemorative status of the current version. In no way whatsoever is this a commercial exploitation on the club’s part, No Siree Bob. As it happens there is nothing wrong with the blue – it’s blue, whichever way you look at it, not Midnight Blue, just as the away strip a while back was not Anthracite, the shorts were, well God alone knows what colour.

Robert Pires made a few interesting observations regarding the manager’s dilemma about his future, even if the quandry no longer exists:

I must say that Madrid are above Arsenal in terms of status and for their history. Arsenal need Arsene Wenger more than he needs Arsenal. His youth policy will pay off in the future, no doubt.

An interesting proposition put forward. Is the club dependent on Wenger to the point of over-reliance? Personally, I am not so sure that the issue is as black and white as Pires has stated.

Project Youth is by no means the finished article, the consistency required to win is coming through. To that extent, and it is a point that Pires made, Wenger most likely would not abandon a project in which he has staked his own reputation and a considerable amount of physical, mental and emotional energy. However, that does not mean that his head cannot be turned by a substantial offer from a club with Real’s history.

The issue becomes clouded simply because it is Wenger who has built the systems and procedures that sustain the scouting. In a time when money is an issue at Arsenal, these are of the utmost importance. Keeping the wheels well oiled would be crucial for long-term sustainability of the direction that Wenger has chosen yet the club would not risk appointing a novice as his replacement.

Pires identified a potential replacement in Pelligrini, whose background and playing philosophy appear similar to the Arsenal manager. There is no doubt that Wenger’s eventual successor will need to be someone with experience of football at the highest level and be able to build on the Frenchman’s foundations.

There exists a mutual dependency between the club and manager. Wenger has returned the club to the top of the English game, something that had slipped in the latter years of Graham’s reign and not substanitally improved under Rioch although in fairness to him, he was building a platform on which he could build. Wenger has built his reputation at Arsenal and has total control over the playing staff, a state of affairs not necessarily available elsewhere, even if he were to go to a club with the remit to start over again.

Anyway, it’s all supposition because Le Boss has stated he is going nowhere and so has Ivan GazidisMatt Hughes in The Times proposes that the players about whom he and his peers continually speculate should actually stay put. The general theory fits the notion that Arsene has been a reasonably good judge of character about when to terminate a player’s Arsenal career.

There is no denying that he has done well and some players have made ill-advised choices in the timings of their departures. Equally there are those who have been successful post-Arsenal – Vieira, Henry, Overmars spring immediately to mind – it is all down to luck and wise decision making, as well as a healthy dose of subjectivity in deciding how to define success. The crucial thing is that Arsenal will go on long after any player departures and has done so for the best part of a century and one quarter. There is no reason to believe that situation will change.

One man not looking towards an Arsenal future is Philippe Senderos:

I feel very good here and I would like to stay. I know that the decision does not depend on me, but on the two clubs.

A tinge of sadness about that because I believe Senderos will go on to become a highly regarded centre back. At Arsenal his confidence was battered and he needed a change of scenery to recover that. He appears to have done so with reports suggesting that he has had a good second half of the season. Best of luck if he does move, welcome back if he does not.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Andrei Arshavin is keeping dictaphone tape manufacturers in business during an extensive round of interviews in the past week. Like almost everyone else, he has some advice for Wenger:

I think we need to buy two or three players, but it is up to our manager to decide which positions he wants to strengthen.

At least he recognises that it is Arsene’s job to decide who joins. Arshavin seems confident that the squad is not as far from completion as the recent barrage of cynicism suggested:

I would not say we lack experience…but sometimes we could do with a bit more maturity or composure. It will come, you just need time.

As an experienced professional, you would expect him to see the signs of what was lacking this season rather better than you or I. The situation has not led him to plumb the depths of negativity though, the Russian confident that a full pre-season will see an even better Arshavin and a positive campaign in 2009/10:

I have settled in quickly, though, and am looking forward to the challenges of the new season – one that we all hope will see us bring some trophies to the club for the players and the fans.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. Must say I agree with you Yogi on Senderos. I would welcome him back.

The Bobby Pires comments show Arsenal is still in his heart, and I agree with him, Arsenal need Wenger more tham Wenger needs Arseanl.

  2. Oh and ’1st’, seems to be the done thing. (for some obscure reason).

  3. Great post as always, Yogi.

It’s very late now but I have to add some good news to your roundup of today.

It’s offical: Cesc did not spit and the FA, the English Media and Brown are a joke.

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/fabregas-did-not-spit-fa-rules-1689148.html

I chose this particular article because of this particular gem of a quote:

“The judgement also asks big questions about the FA’s disciplinary process when an investigation is launched on the hearsay of an individual’s quotes without any firm evidence of the incident having taken place. Hull did not submit any video evidence from the Emirates tunnel – where Brown claimed the incident took place – and instead they just sent the commission the testimonies of Brown, Horton and fitness coach Sean Rush.”

Oh the irony. Look what Sam wrote just two days after the Hull incident:

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/fabregas-growing-pains-risk-stunting-rare-talent-1648203.html

Also why “have the FA delayed the announcement” out of “deference to Hull City who are playing for their Premier League status against Manchester United on Sunday”? Shouldn’t Hull be punished for their lies which have cost the FA a good amount of time and money, let alone the damage Brown has caused to the reputation of our captain? The FA couldn’t show the same courtesy towards Arsenal when we appealed against Adebayor’s red card from the CC final in 2007 when we were left without a striker in our FA cup game against Blackburn. Instead of punishing Brown however, “the delay has meant that Fabregas has had to continue with the charges hanging over him.” Unbelievable!

Didn’t want to sleep before I could get that off my chest.

  4. TheSKAGooner

Le Bob, like Le Boss…pure class. I think Pires’ words were heartfelt and honest. Clearly he still carries Arsenal with him and cares deeply for both the club and AW. Regarding the club needing AW more than he needs them, I’ve read and re-read the full interview several times and I don’t think it was meant in any way to be derogatory. My take on it, after having pondered a spell, was simply that Arsene can go someplace else and more than likely have the resources at his disposal to start over again quickly. The club, on the other hand, would have to wait while a new gaffer built his own systems as Wenger has done. So in that respect, yes, we are much more dependent on Arsene than he is on us.

In any event, we love Bob, we love Arsene and we love Arsenal. So all is good.

  5. I agree with TheSKAGooner.

  6. I remember how people were blaming Robert Pires in his last year at Arsenal complaining that he was not good enough anymore and asking for his head. Then he left us and went on having a quite successful time in Spain…And now everybody is praising how good he was. I am an Arsenal fan but I can not relate to a lot of Arsenal fan at all. We are currently constantly criticising booing some of our players. Yet most of them have not done too badly. It is a shame with such a big stadium, such a good team why can’t we be better fans?!

  7. Welcome back Senderos?
    Are you serious??
Come on mate he was consistantly found out in the rough & tumble of the Premiership.
Do you reccommend we keep him because he managed to play well in the champions league & a much less physical Italian league?
Had planty of chances didn’t cut it but best of luck to him because he always gave 100%.

  8. My Letter To ANR
I have previously considered you a knowledgeable Arsenal commentator and it is even fair to say that occasionally i {to my regret now}, frequently took as given your supposedly insider story about the club. Your last post on Arsene Wenger’s supposed flirtation with Real Madrid has however confirmed beyond doubt that you are an hypocrite, who not only grossly misled those who took the time to read your articles, but you are also too graceless to admit you are wrong. Over the last 10 months or so, your articles have tended to portray AW as a crusading footballing fanatic hell-bent on showing the whole world that his so called ‘Youth Policy’ will win medals. Many of your write-ups have been geared towards this. You wrote about how AW had the opportunity to buy series of experienced players but chose instead not to. You even menioned that but for Gazidis, AW’s proclivity to penny pinching would have cost us the service of Arshavin. Many of us believed you, not only because you wrote about it, but also because people like Hill-Wood mischievously misled us with his platitudes about there being billions to spend if only AW was willing to spend it. It is now clear from AW hint on Real Madrid that this was not the case. Arsene was just too decorous and decent to openly controvert the board as many of the cheque-book managers would have doubtlessly done. It should be clear to genuine Arsenal supporters that AW has been denied the necessary spending power to compete with the likes of even Newcastle, Tottenham and Sunderland; teams now in the lower wrung of the premiership. It is a measure of AW undoubted genius that in spite of this financial limitation, the team has continued to punch above its weight. AW failure to spend has thus been because there was no money to spend. It has nothing to do with any obsession with ‘Youth Policy’ {or was it ‘youth policy’ that made him buy Silvestre?}. That you failed to acknowledge this and admits that you are wrong shows a lack savoir faire. Whilst you have lost a previously misguided admirer in myself, my respect and admiration for AW is reinforced. To paraphrase Roy Keane observation about the man: the apotheosis of AW is inevitable

  9. Anyone with a good guess on which youth player will be promoted to the first team. This is always the cheapest option. Surely we must have an Iniesta and a Xavi!

  10. Adebayo Kareem

What and who are you talking about?

  11. “CESC FABREGAS has been cleared by the FA in his spitting row with Hull No 2 Brian Horton.
Two charges of improper conduct against the Arsenal captain were both judged not proven by an independent disciplinary commission.

“Fabregas did not make a personal appearance before the commission but put forward a written submission outlining events on the night.

“Hull supplied a number of statements but, crucially, there was NO video evidence to back up the claims.

“Brown is now the only person likely to be punished for his part in the bitter row.

“He has also been charged with improper conduct for his post-match comments about referee Mike Riley but the case will not be dealt with until the season is over.”

    Hahaha!

  12. BarneyStinson

Now Cesc and Arsenal should sue Breakdown and co. for defamation of character.

  13. Adebayo Kareem is certainly refering to Myles.
I have long stopped reading the trash he pushes.

The guys is an imbecile. The worst kind as well, one that thinks himself so special he refers to himself in the third person.
    A nonentity period.

  14. Luke, good (and predictable) news! BUt where did you read it?

  15. Good article Yogi…. Lets now hope the best for next season….

  19. Adebayo Kareem,

Am sorry but this seems to be a definite case of mistaken identity. You seem to have mistaken some comments of some people who post here as Yogi’s opinions. That is not the case. The blog has maintained throughout that we dont know how much the transfer kitty comprises of.

All we know for sure is that the transfer funds have been adversely affected by our move to Ashburton Grove. The blog has throughout maintained that Wenger’s policies of building the club from its base of youth directly contradicts other cheque book managers and was the only way ahead for Arsenal after the move to the new stadium. Never has there been a reference to this ‘penny pinching’ that you speak about.

Please read some of the previous posts (and not the comments) and acknowledge your mistake.

  20. Cartman,

There are no prizes or peroni’s for posting first on this blog. Another case of mistaken identity perhaps?

  21. The disease afflicting Arsenal is the foreign thing. Too many foreign players who don’t play with their hearts out. They really don’t care. Adebayor and Diaby.

Amy Lawrence wrote about the club’s U-18 players as follows:

“Many of the issues that have been criticised in the first team are abundance in this young group, spirit, leadership and resilience”

You know why? Except Giles Sunu and Francis Coquelin, all the remaining players are English.

That’s the trick. Arsene needs to buy at least two English players to bring back the old Arsenal spirit in the team that existed in our trophy winning years.

  22. MybrotherBilo

My brother Bilo is in cage and my sister shows him her Phil Brown and says ‘You wil never have this la, la, la, la, la’. One day my brother Bilo escape from cage and he had it.

  23. “The foreign thing”?
Do you mean superior ball skills and a better attitude?

  24. @Adebayo Kareem

You can’t possibly be referring to YOGI. His points on Wenger’s transfer funds have always been clear and unambiguous. I think you ‘miss road’ as Nigerians will say.

A great man once said ” there is no past that we can bring back by longing for it. There is only an eternally new now that builds and creates itself out of the best as the past withdraws” So, we should forget about this season and, look forward to next with gusto.

  25. Superior ball skills?

Give me the superior ball skills that Eboue, Denilson, Song, Senderos and Bendtner have? Even Diaby who against Manu passed to the opposition 9 times?

  26. Duckster
I agree with your comments overall RE senderos, he was found out on occassion, but only against the most powerful strikers in the league, namely drogba and torres,

he was actualyl a part of 3 really good defensive runs – wen he first came into the side we barely conceded and i think he was named player of the month by the club; then the CCL run to the final; and then last year, when toure got injured, he came and made our defence very solid for a number of games up until the torres goal in the CCL

so really hes a very good defender. If he were to come back Im not sure how happy id be, or how confident id be to see him in a big game, but remember hes still not That old (24), he will have improved
and hes one of the few players who really cares about the team, not just himself

if he does move on tho, good luck to him, as u said

  27. …Phil Senderos made no more mistakes at the back than any other centre half…his time with ACMilan playing alongside possibly the best defender of our time will have taught him a great deal…..I hope he returns to Arsenal…and if he does he will have a long and illustrious career….and it would be nice to think that Arsenal supporters will back him….sadly he may opt for ACMilan fans if given the chance….

  28. So which two english players are going to restore the old Arsenal spirit?

Or does it not matter and it’s just the englishness of them that will bring back this spirit?

  29. There is no foreign disease you talk about Patrick (Howard) you racist turd. You are the disease.

I hope Ade is with us next season. But if not, that is Mr. Wenger’s decision and that’s OK.

As for Eboue, Song, Denilson, Diaby they will ALL be with us. Lovely players (Eboue is my favourite, for many reasons). Denilson will become the best defensive midfield in EPL. Song is amazing. Diaby will prove his detractors what stupidos they are.

We shall overcome!!! Oh yes. Patrick will weep.

  30. Patrick

Eboue is one of the best dribblers in the premiership
ditto diaby – who walcott said was our most talented player
denilson is very reasonable with the ball at his feet, song is slightly better than him, and bendtner can beat a man also

technically this side is as good as it’s ever been imo (i never thought edu or gilberto wer technically amazing for example), we just lack strength and experience

  31. …Patrick is a racist, ZimPaul…of that there is no doubt….his comments excite him….he is aroused by what he perceives to be bravery…he knows that he would not be able to make his comments in any football ground in the country…not just because of the law…but because he would be beaten to a pulp by the fans around him….our society has changed and these people are being left behind…throwback…reminders of a grim past….don’t respond to him…just leave him there as a reminder of the how bad the good old days really were…

  32. Davi

Not true. Senderos was not good, has never been good at Milan and don’t have what it takes to make it. I’m sure Milan won’t sign him. I expect AW to sell him to another club if he returns because he’s a failure.

Apart from Drogba playing around with him, he was also toast against McCarthy of Blackburn, Martins of Newcastle, Kanutey of Serville and many many performances I can’t recall here.

He and other foreign players are just not good to play for the team. Why Arsene should persist on spending struggling fans hard earned money on these players is sometimes strange.

AW’s penchant for bringing in average foreign players who eventually don’t make it is one of the main causes of the club’s recent failures.

  33. Patrick,

“Even Diaby who against Manu passed to the opposition 9 times?”

Don’t you mean 5 times? And that’s 5 out of 46 passes, which is very good, accuracy-wise

  34. I like Senderos too, and rate him highly. A nice guy too. Muliti-linguist. Hard worker. There were some games he was immense. Hope he comes back. Welcome!

The D&G brigade are on the retreat, making pitiful excuses for the anti-Wenger, xenophobic, anti-Arsenal atmopshere they created. A tiny coterie remain to cheer each other. It’s funny!

  35. Yes Frank. Good advice.

  36. …Senderos is going to be a world-class centre half…

  37. Patrick – i dont remember all those incidences, but the mccarthy one is unfair
that happend wen wenger moved him to RB, a really retarded move when we had toure in the side

hes not the most adaptable player, hes not half as good playing RCB as he is at LCB for example (same is true of djourou, sides reversed) but when hes come into the side hes generally been impressive

i think u may be blaming every goal wev every conceded on him, hes not perfect but he is a very good defender

  38. Happy Gooner

He’s got the attributes, but he’s also prone to mistakes and has that ‘accident waiting to happen’ feel about him. We need a rock like Sol. The problem is there’s never a rock around when you need one

  39. I had to laugh when asked ‘where were you?’. When Michael Thomas scored. Was it Rocky who passed the final ball if my memory serves? I was with my old team. We had just played a match and rushed to a friend’s home to watch on TV. I cheered (and drank until dawn). What a day!

  40. Patrick – and how do explain the runs of defensive solidity that seem to occur when he comes into the side?
Do u remember last year? he had pato in his pocket vs Milan, and he made us solid when toure left for the ACN

  41. In those days being an Arsenal supporter was lonely over here! It was all Liverpool. These days it’s different.

  42. …thats right.Sol….has a bad game and fucks off at half time….is that the rock you mean?…

  43. Happy Gooner

Ok, so he went mental, he’d achieved alot in his career though before he went mad. Senderos hasn’t achieved anything. IMO, He’s a decent defender but not the answer to our problems. A quick fix could be to buy Carvalho who cant get in the chelsea team and may be persuaded by Wenger. He’s also be could for the younguns to learn from. Would cost a bit though

  44. Davi

“explain the runs of defensive solidity that seem to occur when he comes into the side”

How much have you received from Senderos for advocacy? He’s not good. Check the own goal he scored against Villa when we were cruising to challenge for the title in 2007. He’s too slow and technically poor, and only Italy fits him.

As usual of Arsene’s foreign biased signings, he came with a huge reputation and ended up a flop.

In any case I like Myles Palmer and I reads him all the time. I’ll like to quote Palmer today.

“It’s true. Since Arsenal do not have a British dressing-room spirit, Wenger has had to create his own unique culture behind the remote-controlled gates of his high-tech French kindergarden.

If the Professor tries to build round his diamond by signing more teenagers from St Etienne, there will be crowd mayhem that makes the booing of Eboue like a primary school picnic”

Myles and Amy Lawrence have spoken today and the Professor must end the so called foreign-skilled-players crap.

  45. Patrick

Your comments are based around Myles and Amy Lawrence

    You are a complete turd.

Do you know how many English players we have coming through compared to the likes of Man U and Chelsea??

Do you know how much it costs to buy a Carrick..??? Do you think Carrick is better than Cesc

Point proven.. keep your mouth shut u turd because what ever you say stinks

  46. HappyGooner – If we could pull that off it would be amazing

I think Senderos could be an answer in a few more years, as I say, hes only 24 and theres been so many positives

Patrick – I know hes not perfect, but he would have been 22 then, and everyone makes mistakes. I think ud find he could make it in spain as well as italy, hes not too slow, hes probably the only true defender in our squad. the rest are or look like converted midfielders who rely on pace rather than good positioning

anyway, its a debate, fair points on senderos, we’ll just have to see what happens. I expect him to leave but I think hel have a good career wherever he goes

  47. Wenger has done so much for English football, he has ultimately upped the standard of our game.

    Patrick

What does race have to do with it, the streets of London are full of more foreigners than our club, why dont u complain about that instead?

  48. To clear up something from an early comment.

Adebayo Kareem entered a website called “My Letter To ANR”.

    HTH

    YW

  49. …the difference in achievement just might be down to the difference in age…

  50. Davi

His best bet is to leave, the pressure and focus on him when he returns may be too much for anyone. If he did decide to return and Wenger gave him the opportunity, will show how determined he is to prove people wrong. The year break away may have made him stronger.

  51. Chris – yes, english players are actually coming through who Have some technical skill now, and not just from arsenal!
I think wenger’s philosophy has had an affect on other prem managers, which has in turn affected the way players are brought through

i think it was rhys murphy who was talking about training with the england youth compared with the arsenal youth, and how much more technical training they had at arsenal in comparison – it looks as tho things have changed at other clubs tho, if you look at the players coming through sides like everton and man city

  52. …the opinions of Amy Lawrence and the hack dwarf are no more valid than any other Arsenal supporter…in fact I would suggest that they are considerbaly less informed and less able than many non-journalists…Amy moves in the wrong circles…and she has a career to consider…the hack dwarf…well…the runt is just that…a hack dwarf…

  53. We could say Henry, Vieira and Overmars were successful post-Arsenal but from a footballing perspective, they never reached the performance levels they attained at Arsenal once they were gone. Overmars gave his best years to Ajax. Henry and Vieira gave their best years to Arsenal. And that’s the same with most other players Wenger lets go. It’s rare to find an example of a player who went on and became 2ce the player he was under Wenger.

  54. Super Rob is wrong to saw Wenger doesn’t need Arsenal. He needs us. It’s a perfect match. Right manager for the right club, a matrimony of minds.

  55. There is an interesting open letter to Kevin Witcher, Editor of the ever negative Online Gooner, posted on the ‘Gooner today…it is well worth a read…Money, big signings, changing managers do not make for trophies – I suggest you read it Patrick, try and understand the club you seem to support, try and see beyond your selfish quest for bragging rights…or if you can’t, if it is only glory you seek, go elsewhere.

We won the womens FA Cup and I think the league as well, Our youth team has won the league and is in the final for their FA cup…the first team got the semis of the FA cup and after a poor start to the season got to 4th (for only the 4th time since 96) to qualify for Europe. I would say that Arsenal is possibly the most competitive club in the country, yet isn’t even in the top 8 spenders.

All over this club there is stuff to be proud of, a future to look forward, players to get excited about…not to mention an ethical and moral code that is rare in the modern world, let alone football.

Im at the Grove this Sunday, as I have been many times this season, I will not boo a soul, never have or will, I will stay behind and cheer and cheer…because I love this club, our manager and the players in the shirt. Uncondtionally.

I’m a Gooner through and through, end of.

    Up the Arsenal!

  56. …Andy B you are a star…

  57. Andy B

Very moving comment, i wish i could be there to cheer the lads on too.

They have done us all proud this season, hopefully next season they can go a step further and make us all that bit prouder.

  58. Patrick

Take Andy B’s comment as an example to ya… that is how a real fan represents their club

  59. Andy B,
Give one extra cheer fro me this weekend will you. All the way from Zi-zi-zimbabwe! Where Arsenal has many, many supporters. I see Arsenal shirts every single day on the street, not one or two, loads. We always greet each other. The favourites are Cesc, RvP and Walcott.
    Thanks for that.

  60. Zhidinha – It was Alan Smith who played the ball through to Mickey T. ;-)

  61. Andy B,

You sum it all well. What I’m about to say next would seem like heresy to the anti-Arsenal Arsenal fans but I don’t remember when we’ve ever had all-round, club wide this much talent.

The invincibles were fantastic. In them we had 2-3 all-time football greats. But the rest of the club wasn’t all that.

Now, from ladies, to U-11s, to academy, to yoof teams, to reserves, to first team the club is bursting with quality.

Yet we have an unprecedented level of Doom and Gloom.

  62. I am looking forward to seeing the Yoots tonight…

Frimpong, Wilshere, Emmanuel Thomas, Lansbury, Coquelin….

The future is bright people… :-)

  63. Ole Gunner

I agree and so do many. No one can look through our whole club and not be amazed by the abundance of quality.

For the senior mens team though, with the guidance of a true footballing genius in Arshavin, possibly having the experience of Rosicky next season, Eduardos prolific finishing and all our other creative players we will be a force to be reckoned with next season.

Couple solid players will help our youngsters express themselves more, but i can not see this team go anyway apart from UP.

  64. “Denilson is very reasonable with the ball at his feet.”

I’m sure he’d be delighted by that praise.

Denilson actually has excellent control and excellent ball skills. Brilliant player.

  65. Le grove are giving a bit of a slating to sties that mention them all the time. They really do think they are the bees knees dont they

  66. So glad Cesc is in the clear, i hope that c*nt Phil Brown is relegated & hung out to dry.

  67. HG

Doesn’t surprise me that you read that rubbish

  68. chris, It suprise me if you didn’t smell bad

  69. HG

Nice yp have you back with your usual intellectual comments….

did you happen to learn anything new on why you hate Adebayor at Le Grove???

  70. nice to*

  71. Chris, no not really, it all comes from his own mouth. ‘Adebeyor needs the toilet…”

  72. Gooner sore Arse

Van Bronkhust was succeseful when he left us.CL winner in 2006.And Henry and Silvinho may do the same next week.Helb will get a winners medal even if he is on the bench

  73. Ian Wright done pretty well. He does Bow time on talksport, and Gladiators……….

  74. Ian Wright is so funny though aint he?, He has me in stiches on the way home. He’s a true legend

  75. Gooner sore Arse

They may be successfull in some way, after all they did play for the Arsenal so they have the ability to be, but if you ask them on a personal level the club that they enjoyed playing for the most…. theres only 1 answer.

  76. I like the youth team.

    James Sheer

    Eastmond Ayling Bartley Tom Cruise

    Lansburi Frimpong Coquelin Jay E-Thomas

    Wilshere

    Sunu/Murphy/Watt

The spirit, the love, the resilience you see in the team when they play is unbelievable. Why? Its all because of the British dressing room. They also have some French support coming from Sunu and Coquelin but the main stay, the spine is English.

If we can have 5 of these players coming through in 2/3 years time then Arsenal can win anything.

Frimpong and Coquelin are the midfield Arsenal greats of the future. Bartley and Ayling will play like Keown and Bould. They will be led by Fabregas.

The U-!8 is the real Arsenal future supported by Gibbs and Walcott, with Wilshere and Fabregas the conductors.

  77. HG

Ian Wright is a true legend, thats as far as i will go agreeing with you, and the fact he makes me laugh. His comments since the day he left Arsenal haven’t merited much amusement with the majority of the Arsenal faithful.

He seems to still carry a grudge on us im afraid in when he had to move to smaller teams to get 1st team football.

  78. Patrick

I thought English is the way forward, how can they be lead by a little Spaniard???

Also you tell me how many English players that play for Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool that aint in the National team. The simple factor is the rest aint good enough, and the ones that are cost 20-30m

  79. Patrick

I agree with you about the youths though, some will come through and make the grade, we have a long list of English players waiting in the wings who are being nurtured to play proper football. Something the English generation that blesses the Premiership now struggles to do without the assistance of Foreigners.

  80. Chris, so what you’re saying is that you dont respect a man who has served and loved Arsenal, purely because he doesn’t agree with you?

  81. Happy Gooner

No you tell me if you can respect a man who doesn’t seem to be capable or respecting your club after being let go???

This aint about me you fool, god your an idiot

  82. That’s all i keep hearing, but the future never seems to come. I have been hearing those words now for the past 5 or 6 seasons now. If the future is bright and we have such a good team why aren’t we winning trophies?

  83. chris, all he ever says is that we need a few older players to make us world beaters. Which is the truth. I dont hink you have the right to bad mouth someone like Ian Wright. Were you an Arsenal fan when he played?

  84. gunnerealist

what you’ve been hearing is in motion… when you see quality players like Clichy, Gibbs, WIlshire, Vela, Ramsey, Hoyte, Walcott, Cesc, Toure, and the rest of the youths coming through… the rewards will come mate.

If you are demanding instant success you will be left in dissapointment in any form of your life.

  85. Happy Gooner

Yes.. he was my favorite player at the time. But any achievements on the pitch doesnt merit him the right to slate our club as freely as he seems to do.

  86. gunnerrealist, I just think Arsene was talking with his heart when he said his project would take a couple of seasons. It’s going to take about six, Arshavin has speeded up the protest but we must keep our midfeild players together

  87. Happy Gooner

He has a number of issues which he has expressed down the years, everyone knows this. This is one of many instances of sour tasting comments which has come out from him. End of the day he is a pundit, he has to say what everyone wants to hear.

  88. chris, He doesn’t slate the club, alot of Arsenal fans need to grow a sense of humour and stop being so self righteous. All clubs get slated when they’ve played badly, get over yourself, fans like you make Arsenal sound like a bunch of pussys

  89. Happy Gooner

No its fans like you that are pussys.. your weak hearted and when times get hard you are very quick to jump on the bandwagon of criticism.

Take a look in the mirror and honestly ask yourself how good you are as a supporter. I think you will realise you aint that good.

  90. Chris do you think we have a devine right to win everything and never have a bad word said about us? Talking and debating and banter is what makes football so great

  91. Happy Gooner

Ian Wright is an Arsenal Legend and is a concerned supporter, just like the rest of us, but he has other motives behind what he says. He is a pundit who isnt that good in all honesty and a former player who was let go. Dont you think that will affect his opinion?

  92. Happy Gooner

Ive never thought we have a devine right for anything, when success comes it is nice for everyone involved in the club. Its when times are hard supporters like you need to learn how to deal with it more constructively

  93. Gunnerealist – surely your name is the biggest contradiction on here…..

As you may of noticed, the Champs League and Premier League are not easy to win, and only one team can win it at a time.

Some teams, Pool, havent won the league in nearly 20 years.

Moving to the new stadium has meant that in the short term, we have had to compete against teams with far larger budgets, and we have done admirably, playing some amazing football along the way, and coming pretty close.

AW knew this, and put a plan in place, by investing in youth, that would make us competative in the short term, but with an abundance of riches coming through.

Most Arsenal fans who are ‘realists’ recognise what the plan is, and buy into it.

Feel free to come along for the ride, but if you do, make sure you support the team in the process.

If you choose not to, then close the door on thr way out.

  94. chris, your arguments are based on my character yet you know nothing about me, brain of britain you are. Englands in a bit of financial trouble at the moment would you mind sorting it out when you get a minute? cheers mate

  95. BTW – I don’t think Ian Wright has ever said anything overly bitter about Arsenal…

  96. Happy Gooner

Every comment you make makes you look more and more like an idiot. Your support is very conditional and your comments are very amusing, Wenger and the players look at fans like you in pity.

    Matt

I wish HG shut the door on the way out too, being a supporter seems to be too hard for some.

  97. PLEASE HELP – QUOTE NEEDED

I can’t remember who it was, but a few days ago somebody posted the part of the interview in which Arsene discussed Real Madrid, when he made it clear that he was not thinking about going there.

If anyone has this, please may I have the link?

    Thanks.

  98. Matt

He has written column after column on what Arsenal is doing wrong, if he thinks he can do a better job than Wenger then he can be our guest and get his coaching badges ;)

  99. So you’re slagging off one of our best and most passionate players because you think he holds a grudge for being dropped when he was obviously getting on a bit? You think he had that little rapport with the fans that he’d have a grudge and want all arsenal fans to suffer?

  100. chris, at least when I’m being silly its obviously supposed to be silly, your comments about Ian Wright are disgracefull, absolutely disgracefull

  101. Happy Gooner

You can try blow my comments out of context, all im saying is his comments are heavily influenced. Your comments are unexplainable and you are yet to prove any sort of support for your club.

Like i said before, go take a long look in the mirror… might do you some good.

  102. Happy Gooner

Absolutely and disgraceful in the same sentence, that must have been hard.

Probably harder than supporting your club???

  103. Happy Gooner

‘Slagging off’ i wouldn’t stoop as low as your kind mate, go back to Le Grove.

  104. I don’t think he would get paid to just be nice about us the whole time…. ;-)

It’s similiar to the ginger fool Durham who sits next to him – most of what he says is total bollocks, and it is just to provoke people into calling in to the show, i am sure they have a good laugh thinking up things to say to irritate certain people.

  105. Chris, Ian Wright only states what the whole football world including the majority of arsenal fans think – We need a couple of proven players to compliment the youngsters and make us world beaters. If Tony Adams heard you talk that way about Wrighty he’d give you a well deserved slap

  106. Ian Wright comes across as a bit of a ‘knee-jerker’ with his opinions – ‘success needs to be bought’. He may have a slight point but he fails to acknowledge the job Wenger has done at a time when lots of money hasn’t been available.

Like a lot of fans, his perspective needs reassessing. How many times during Wrightie’s time at Arsenal did we perform better than we did this season – not always. Our patience then was a lot longer than it is today.

We may not have won anything in four years, but during that time, around the world, we have gained one hell of a lot of respect for the way we play. Wrightie needs to remember that and not to be fixated on trophies (much as we all want to win some!)

For what it’s worth, much as admire Senderos in the way he conducts himself, I believe that he is not fast enough to be a top class CB and we should invest in a CB using funds we could get by selling him.

One last point- surely Overmars’ post Arsenal career can’t be considered a success….

Come on you young Reds tonight – can’t wait!

  107. How can you guys slag off Ian Wright? Its unbelievable, the self righteous bunch as well. Its like you’ve been brain washed

  108. Matt

I agree, all im saying is his comments about Arsenal and any other ex Arsenal player in fact have other influences. As they are ex arsenal they cant make themselves look biassed by backing us no matter what, so alot of them go the opposite way or just go along with what the rest of the pundits say. You cannot blame them as its their job.

Look at Dixon recently, a couple weeks ago he was speaking about where we are going wrong, everyone was. He was asked for his opinion. Then recently he called all the banter against Wenger disgraceful.. do you think his opinions a few weeks ago could have boiled up into bad comments against Wenger?

The way i see it is… all these little opinions in the media, by ex players, by pundits, they all have an affect on supporters. Every Sun newspaper picked up with Wenger being slated or Adebayor or Gallas or Eboue or Bendtner etc etc influences opinion. Influences what really goes on. These stories are made to sell, if they dont write nothing they dont get paid. They get paid for selling crap to people and supporters who are easy manipulated.

As an Arsenal supporter we should all know by now to take them stories with a pinch of salt.

  109. Happy gooner

If Adams and Wright heard how disgraceful your support is they would smack you the fu** up too.

  110. chris, of course they couldnt just be telling the truth as they see it, no way, there obviously doing it to hurt Arsenal. There talking about football for gods sake, not secret attack plans for an upcoming war

  111. Interesting past two weeks for AW and AFC

Week 1: After defeats to ManU Chelsea the media goes into over drive. Crisis at Arsenal – players are poor, reliance on youth is a failure, AW must spend, players will leave. This culminated in the AGM with some supporters and actual shareholders disrepecting AW and players. Media and and most Arsenal blog-sites are in total Doom and Gloom mode. (ACLF is one of few websites that resist the doomers.)

Week 2: In run-up to Man U, game Real Madrid express interest in Wenger, who rejects the possibility while observing that any offer by RM is interesting. In a matter of hours the media manufactured crisis begins to flounder as AFC fans and neutral observers contemplate life at AFC without Wenger. The tone in the media changes as most writers conclude that AW has done an outstanding job and the team is “punching above its weight”, whatever that means. Most bloggers now start off with the mea-culpa, AW is not the problem. It is either the Board’s fault for refusing to give him more money or it is the foreign players who are either lazy (Ade) or lack talent (Diaby)

Pity the short-term thinking, small minded fans for their continued lack of support for AW and the players. Maybe this past two weeks would have taught them a lesson; crisis at Arsenal is a media creation that serves their commercial interests, as long as AW pursues his vision and wise leadership of the club AFC will acheive great things.

  112. Happy Gooner

I have the right to criticise Wright and whoever i want just as you do as freely with your comments on Adebayor, Wenger and everyone else.

Dont try turn this on me when its your support here that is the real question, the same question the board, the media, the pundits and everyone else in this country have addressed.

Do you realise you make us all look like muppets you muppet!!!

  113. You think Adebeyor cares for Arsenal the way Ian Wright does? Muppet

    I never bad mouth Wenger

  114. shotta-gunna

Yep, it is a huge pity. Muppets like Happy Gooner thrive on media creation of bullsh** though, during the last 10 years or so they continue to buy the crap that we must endure.

Its a shame how most fans cant see how lucky we are to have Arsenal.

  115. Happy Gooner

You think a Rooney, Etoo, Torres or a Drogba would care anymore?????

If you have something against Ade that is your agenda, when he leaves you will just take your frustration out on the next player. When will it end??

  116. Chris you’re a relatively new fan aren’t you?

  117. Chris, name one player who wears the shirt with pride I’ve ever said anything bad about?

  118. Happy Gooner

You are a relatviely fickle fan arent you?

Ive been a fan for many many years, probably more than you.

  119. Happy Gooner

“Chris, name one player who wears the shirt with pride I’ve ever said anything bad about?”

That is your problem right there, you believe everything the media tells you

You actually thing none of our players care about the club?? Your pothetic mate

  120. Stop feeding the fucking troll. Howard is an internet troll, he posts nonsense to start an argument, ignore him and he’ll die.

  121. Happy Gooner

They are fighting off criticism from all corners yet they have to put up with so called supporters like you.

Really mate, go look in the mirror and ask yourself that question

Better yet, go hang out with the Spuds, they are more your scummy style

  122. Is that you Howard??

Cant we get this guy moderated…..

  123. Steww dont steww

  124. chris, you’re the one saying things about arsenal legends mate, not me. If you dont like my answers then dont talk to me. You always instigate our chats, next time please dont bother

  125. Happy Gooner/Howard

Instigate what exactly??? your only intention is to start an argument

    See you later, you troll

  126. Happy Gooner/Howard

Saying things about Arsenal Legends…. haha

If saying i dont like how Wright always finds a way to get columns out stating the negativity of affairs on our club then ill hold my hands up.

But i think as a proper supporter of Arsenal football club im allowed to stick up for my own club.. or is that a shock to your system.

    Moderate this fool please YW

  127. Chris Goona,

HG is not Howard. He’s here for a lil bit of banter. He is Bloghead aka Arse 21. Zim Paul and I dont have a shred of doubt about it. The steww dont steww comment just gives it away, its like his old comment Aman you need awoman!

  128. Just a random article i found…

  129. ARSENAL SHAREHOLDERS OFFER A PIECE OF THEIR MIND
    Friday 23 Aug 1996

Arsenal directors, under fire after the shock sacking of manager Bruce Rioch and the continuing uncertainty over the anticipated arrival-time of his apparent replacement Arsene Wenger, faced a rowdy annual shareholders meeting at Highbury yesterday.

More than 300 people attended the 90-minute meeting during which chairman Peter Hill Wood and vice chairman David Dein were continually harangued and interrupted from the floor as they tried to address their audience.

They were bombarded with questions ranging in topic from Rioch’s dismissal, Frenchman Wenger’s possible contract and why the club made a £3 million trading loss last season to why Arsenal paid £7.5 million for Dutch star Dennis Bergkamp when he was reportedly previously available at Inter Milan for £5.5 million.

Managing director Ken Friar said afterwards that there would be no comment from the club on the meeting, a private domain of shareholders or their proxy-holders.

But one shareholder said on the way out: “The old boys in blazers and ties, die-hard Arsenal supporters who have been following the club for donkey’s years, were visibly wincing at what was going on.

“They had certainly never been to an Arsenal shareholders meeting like this one before. There was a lot of shouting and bawling. And you could see David Dein was close to losing his temper a few times.

“As for dear old Peter Hill Wood, you could tell he was thinking to himself he wouldn’t want to face many more meetings like this.

“There were security people by the stage where the board sat and people kept hissing and jeering at the replies Hill Wood and Dein gave to questions.

“That was because they stonewalled almost everything including a question about George Graham’s sacking last year over the bungs affair. Their excuse then was that it was sub judice but now they still won’t say anything about it.

“He just kept answering questions about changing the club’s deteriorating image by saying ‘We are trying our best… we are trying.”‘

Local police today refused to confirm suggestions of an Arsenal request for officers to be on duty at the ground before the meeting.

Arsenal did confirm to their shareholders, however, that veteran director Sir Robert Bellinger, a former Lord Mayor of London with only a small stake in the club, is retiring and that no immediate replacement is envisaged.

It is clear, though, that fans are losing patience with events at Highbury where Wenger has still to be confirmed as the new manager.

Latest reports say that he may not be released by his current club, Grampus 8 of Japan until November. His future appointment by Arsenal is one of football’s worst-kept secrets but the date of his arrival remains unclear.

The Arsenal board insists that Rioch’s removal just five days before the start of the season was a unanimous decision but Dein has taken most of the flak from unhappy supporters.

He and wealthy diamond merchant Daniel Fiszsman, who also attended the shareholders meeting but declined to answer questions from the floor, now have a combined 61 per cent stake in the club.

Rioch had accused Dein and Friar of failing to sign any of 29 players the former manager said that he wanted at Highbury including Alan Shearer, Andrei Kanchelskis and Paul Ince.

Ironically, after Rioch was sacked Arsenal at once signed French international midfielders Patrick Vieira from AC Milan and Remi Garde from Strasbourg, although neither are expected to be fit to play for the team for at least another week.

  130. Alex, what kind of sicko would do what you are suggesting?

  131. Things never change, do they?

  132. The same guy who impersonates Ade at a Cuban pub HG!

  133. Chris – The media and too many blog sites keep appealing to trolls like H/G with their Arsenal-in-crisis mantra. Having created this psuedo-crisis, they appeal to the underlying racism and xenophobia of many supporters (e.g. Parick and H/G) by suggesting that there are too many lazy, disloyal foreigners playing for AFC. Damn the facts, it is better to appeal to emotion and prejudice.

Chris and all ACLFers – Keep up the good fight against this nonsense.

Chris and all ACLFers – Keep up the good fight againd this nonsense. sting that there are too many lazy, disloyal foreigners playing for AFC. Damn the facts, it is better to appeal to emotion and prejuidice.

Chris and all ACLFers – Keep up the good fight againd this nonsense.

  134. Yes Ameys the more things change the more they stay the same. The similarity of the transcript which you have extracted and the recent shareholder meeting and the current murmur among the fans proves that.

  135. Shotta-gunna @ 12.34 pm

Good post. The media just follows the news that happened in a week and extrapolates it to make conclusions and damning indictments. The defeats against Man U and Chelsea does’nt mean that Arsenal became a bad team overnight or AW a bad manager. Class is permanent.

  136. Alex, that actually happened

  137. Chris Goona

Im just going to ignore him anywhere, moderated or not. Anything he says seems to be an attempt to save face.

Any comments these types of suporters make have no explanation behind their arguments, we need to keep fighting off supporters like this. Once they all know that supporters should support Arsenal and if they cant they are not wanted, we will then get back to playing free flowing football and our great prospects will then become greats alot quicker. These supporters are the ones stalling their development.

  138. Now you’re talking to yourself. Thats the first sign of madness you know

  139. Supporters like HG & Patrick create negative media

Supporters like HG & Patrick make all our supoprters look bad

Supporters like HG & Patrick demand instant success and have nothing to give to the club

Supporters like HG & Patrick dont respect the integrity of their club

Supporters like HG & Patrick cant see that the youth system is bearing fruit

Supporters like HG & Patrick cant support during times of trophyless seasons

Supporters like HG & Patrick are not wanted!! END OF

  140. Happy Gooner

Now hey there people, won’t you lend an ear?
’cause I’ve a story to tell and I’m telling it here
I was born in a town in the great UK
From a baby to a boy to a man today
And I’m a musical man, and I’m a man of verse
But I’ve got a little problem and it’s getting worse

Well my life was so well planned
    Survivin’ and a-jivin’ in a f-f-funk band
’cause rappin’, it’s my, bread and butter
But it’s hard to rap when you’re born with a st-st-st, st, st-st, st,
    st-t, st-t, stutter!

Well no-one’s ever seen what I mean
    From the age of n-n-n-n-n-n-thirteen
We’ve all been caught in a m-m-mouth trap
So join with us and do the st-st-st-st-st-st-st-stutter rap

  141. Ok Ok i copy and pasted the wrong name… still dont look half the idiot as you have HG, keep up the good work!

  142. Ian Wright was never meant to be a pundit. It happens in every sport – cricket especially. He was a great player, wonderful character, but a bit silly truth to tell in the ‘media world’. We love him all the same, but don’t take a thing he says seriously (he doesn’t). He has the same sense of fun as Happy Gooner – just ‘aving a larf like, and keeping it all lighthearted. That’s Wrighty.

  143. Has anyone seen what a certain Ian Winwood has wrote in the mirror..ive just seen it on a Newsnow feed…Abusing Arsenal & their fans..!! who is this absolute cunt, and why is he allowed to put that shit in print….

  144. fredsmilek001

I think the youth will pay off… you just need to give it time and I think Arshavin playing there for a full season will help them

    http://www.fredjsmilek.com

  145. Zhidhina

I know, it dont make any Arsenal supporter love him less, but like i said to HG…. whatever comes out a pundits mouth is to please the majority and media reliant people of England mostly. A section of Arsenal fans have chosen to believe alot of what comes out in the media, its hard to blame them with the amount of crap pundits write. Just annoying having to put up with people who actually go along with it and use these media ploys and deflect them at our club and players.

    Its very distasteful indeed

  146. there's only one arsene wenger

I think the term people are looking for to describe the mindlessness of certain sections of the arsenal support was coined by the MIT Professer of Linguistics, Noam Chomsky: Neuro Linguistic Programming.
People can think for themselves, but propaganda does exist, and does work, otherwise why would the word be in the dictionary?
I suggest people don’t waste any time with these Trolls like HG etc… Much respect to all devoted Gooners on this blog, who can actually use their brains and see where the club is headed.

  147. there's only one arsene wenger

Q: Do people see all three of diaby/den/song staying long term…as we build a squad to rival the Man U, i think so, obviously…i see Song as potentially some kind of modern Beckanbauer, and would love to see him play as CB more, but maybe I’m talking crap, and he should conc. more on improving his positioning/experience at DM…??? He was brilliant against man u, though they did only play one up.

  148. ZimPaul here. Good post Shotta. What also happened is that our friends in the anti-Arsenal blogsites did a nifty move. Once they saw the volume and tone of reaction to their ‘Wenger must GO now’ hysterics (a number of silent readers started expressing their dismay), they started trying to have it both ways as in:

“righto then, thing is, we always supported Wenger, we were the first to support him, we’ve given him a piece of our mind now, and we hope he’s seen the light, and so we are willing to give him one more year to get things right”.

Everyone knows they’ve spent the entire year crucifying Arsene, and much of the team, week in and out, including the ‘smugometer’ insult.

Their defence of their hypocrisy was the funniest thing I have read. Man, they did head-over-heels and cartwheels and things. Like a circus act.

  149. Has anyone heard about Cesc getting cleared of gobsgate by the FA??

  150. I really like the way Steve Bould talks, it will be good to see him involved in the first team in some capacity over time.

  151. Agree ChrisG.

  152. Yep Maria, he’s cleared and Breakdown was seen being led away in cuffs. Bonfire of Vanities.

  153. Happy Gooner

Maria, he was fined two weeks wages and has to do two months community service at a laundrette

  154. hehe…..deserves more bloody tangoface!!!

  155. The rot at Hull goes right to the damn top. The Hull chairman went to the press saying what a bad role model Cesc was to the younger generation and all that just on the basis of an allegation by his manager and training coach.

Apaprently the videos that AFC submitted to the FA showed that Breakdown and Horton were in the tunnel when Cesc was still on the pitch. This is disgraceful. On what basis did they try to ruin Cesc’s reputation and make comments about our club? On no basis at all. I so wish we sue Brown for libel and defamation and Hull for supporting Brown’s charge.

  156. Alex was there anything in the papers about it?

  157. I didnt think we should belittle ourselves and stoop to their level, but the comments they made were very disrespectful. I hope we make Phil ‘dic* head’ Brown suffer for what damage he put on Cesc’s reputation. It was a personal assault on him and an assault on our club heritage.

  158. I’ve just looked at SportHull and predictably, they are whining about not getting justice against a big club, and laughably, claiming that this reflects badly on both clubs.

You what? I don’t think so, Hull!

  159. Can’t wait for ManU to spank Hull and relegate them on Sunday. It’s not often I wish ManU luck but all the best until Sunday evening.

Cue the usual claims that the FA always side with the big clubs. Breakdown be a man and admit you lied.

Will the papers carry as many column inches on the verdict as they did on the false allegations made about Cesc?

I not going to hold my breath.

  160. FunGunner – They’re not are they?

  161. They most certainly are! The fans, I mean. Following the lead of Breakdown and Horton who have been playing the “little club” card ever since they made the allegations.

  162. shotta-gunna

Zhidhina aka ZimPaul at 1:53 pm – Agreed 100%
I wanted to a fuller expose of this media-blog hypocrisy since Monday but time got in my way.

Let me remind ACLFers: Arsenal in crisis is the default position of the media. It is based on emotion not on facts.

EMOTION: The media exploits the current conventional wisdom that says you must spend heavily to succeed. This perverse wisdom is aligned with the interests of the cheque-book managers, the greedy agents, the players, the Banks who make the financing available, and the media which spends weeks tiltillating readers and viewers with stories about the next big player for their club. AW and AFC have departed from this insanity.
FACTS: AFC has a long history of never hiring cheque-book managers, being self-sufficient, of having a budget and sticking to it. AW is not the first manager in this mold. However he is the visionary manager who not only transformed the club from ugly football to the beautiful game but the 1st to adopt a policy of dependence on youth if the club is to be competitive with the profligate spenders like ManU, Pool and Chelse AFC. Fact is for the past twelve years we have never been out of Champs League, never been out of the top four, several titles to boot and the club remains profitable and self sufficient. In todays financial crisis where several clubs are teetering on bankruptcy’, this is not only footballing success but a bloody miracle.

ACLFers: As the summer wears on and AW refuses to go in a bidding war for any player, no matter how great, expect the media and the bloggers to invent another crisis and spread hysteria among our most suceptible supporters.

(I can’t get used to Zhihina.)

  163. Happy Gooner

shotta-gunna, dude the way you’re so paranoid I think the hysteria has already started

  164. There has been a lot of comments around Arsenal recently about following your team through thick and thin, good times and bad.

I think Hull are taking this a little to far. Your manager, ass. manager and chairman have been caught in a lie or supporting a lie. To continue just makes you all look even more pathetic.

  165. Happy Gooner

I did see cesc wiping his mouth with his sleeve when he run off down the tunnel though

  166. OK, shotta I might go back to ZP. but I like Zhidhina, it was my football name. I was one of the ‘greats’ (ha ha) … in the sunday boozers league that is! I was a striker. Is it too late for me to play for Arsenal?

  167. He was eating some tapas HG, I saw him myself, I was 2 rows back, I often sit there, on the reserves’ reserves bench

  168. the rumour machine has started in earnest … Sakho and Hangeland to Arsenal … not bad choices I guess!

  169. For the media that is …

  170. I pity Hull. Reminds me of the Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin … in reverse!

  171. Good old English pig’s trotters ‘spine’ at Hull, with a topping of whipped Brazilian flair. Doesn’t really go does it.

  172. Good morning/Afternoon!

I cant understand the name HAPPY Gooner! what exaclty are you happy about?

    Blessings!

  173. Happy Gooner

Paul N, Its just my first name, and my second name is Gooner. I’m actually a miserable bastard who supports Wolves

  174. oh ok! so its like when something is good people say “thats bad”?

    I see.

  175. Is it a fact that videos show Fabregas was not in the tunnel at the same time as Breakdown and Whoreson?

  176. Hey all.

I’m with you shotta, come back ZimPaul, Zhidhina’s just not as emphatic a name.

Phil Brown should be fired by Hull (whether or not they survive) for being a dishonest, incompetent, small-minded manager who for almost 20 games could not secure the necessary SIX points required to survive in the Premiership. It’s most shameful, for a club that was 4th in October, to attempt to gain said points by fabricating lies against the captain of our much-domestically despised team of “foreigners” who play the BEST damned football in the UK!!!!

F**k OFF Patrick or Howard or whatever you are. Racism is not allowed here on ACLF.

    By the way, hello Yogi.

    RASERS!

  177. PZ,

Am trying to get a link to a newspaper where I read that.

In the meantime, I read this quote from a gooner reacting to the incident –

“Id love to tell Phil Brown to go to hell but he would just use it as a tanning opportunity.”

    Lol.

  178. .

  179. One of the newspaper reports which talks about video evidence –

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/fa-league-cups/fabregas-did-not-spit-fa-rules-1689148.html

Extract: “The judgement also asks big questions about the FA’s disciplinary process when an investigation is launched on the hearsay of an individual’s quotes without any firm evidence of the incident having taken place. Hull did not submit any video evidence from the Emirates tunnel – where Brown claimed the incident took place – and instead they just sent the commission the testimonies of Brown, Horton and fitness coach Sean Rush.

Fabregas was the subject of two charges: one in relation to coming on to the pitch at the end of the match and the second for the spitting incident. However, Arsenal were so confident he would be cleared that they did not even require the player to attend the hearing in person. Their documentary evidence included a video which showed that Fabregas was still on the pitch when the Hull staff, including Horton, were down the tunnel.

The FA have not yet revealed any details relating to the case which was heard by a four-man independent commission appointed by the FA chaired by a QC and including one ex-player, referee or manager. However, such commissions are not inexpensive to convene and Fabregas has said all along that he would be proved innocent.”

  180. Arsene Wenger Must Stay at Arsenal !

  181. Thank you Alex.

  182. WHER UNA DEY?

  183. What is the reasoning behind the last games of the year being all play on the same day at the same time? does anyone know

  184. Yes, where is everyone?

  185. Hi Paul N…I’m not sure but I think they play all games on the same day so no one can play with the results since they don’t know how the other games will end until the last minute.

  186. Oh. Seems very weird to me though, it should be a weekend when you get hours of football but you end up getting only one match in essence.

  187. G4E, whats up man?

  188. Not much Paul N, just waiting to get out of here and start the long weekend :) how about you?

  189. I hope Brown Hole gets the compound kick in the ass effect by getting relegated, fined, and suspended. I would be happy with that end result to the whole spitting lie.

It’s really shameful from a football manager to falsely accuse a player this way. The 22 year old ‘foreigner’ showed that he has class, and the ‘local’ manager showed great disrespect for his profession…what a maggot?!

When Cesc mouthed off to Hughes about his time at Barca, Hughes admitted that Cesc apologized to him later, even though that is not comparable to accusing someone of spitting when they didn’t. I think Brown Hole should publically apologize to Cesc.

  190. If Hull do stay by one point think back to september. AFC 1 Hull 2. We only have ourselves to blame if the cunts stay up

  191. Wenger says we’re keeping Ade. Yippee!

  192. I’m glad too Ole – I just hope Ade feels the same way. Even though there are a few people making a lot of noise, it would be great if he stays to prove them wrong because there are plenty of us who still feel he has a lot to offer the team.

  193. Togonator is staying with us, with just one addition (Or not) and we will enter the PL next season at full throttle blasting anything that stands in our way…

We will kick the asses of the doomers,
We will kick the asses of gloomers,
and Young Arsenals will be the new boomers..

  194. The lie might have originated with Whoreson rather than Breakdown. Breakdown might only be guilty of credulity. In my opinion, there ought to be an investigation.

  195. Same here G4E, so glad I had monday off.

I hope Ade stays but one thing I have thought about is how Eboue has coped with being booed and Ade. Eboue seems very happy, has Ade been treated worse than Eboue?

  196. Sebastien Bassong is the latest defender to be linked with Arsenal.

  197. So far it’s Haggeland and Bassong but I’m sure before summer is over the list will include my ancient grand grand grand father who used to play Center back with a ball carved out of basalt…so he’s really really tough, he actually has muscles in his toes

  198. Sunu scores…1-0 to the Arsenal!!

  199. The speculation is so dumb isnt it?

I am looking forward to our team next season for real. Look how Song and Denilson have played with really only a year of playing regularly in the PL. Its gonna be an amazing year for us!

  200. Don’t forget Zapata and the guy from Ajax.

  201. sweet, just found a feed. I am at work with and not busy at all!

  202. watching the match PZ?

  203. carinadoddss

HOMO SAPIENS ARE BIOMACHINES. It turned out that humans are living machines which cannot act randomly. In other words, a human cannot think, do anything, wish, work towards something, avoid something, love someone or something or even hate and so on and so forth, if it is not in his/her program. Human is a bio-form that is programmed by nature 100%, in this sence just the same way as animals, birds or plants.
    http://www.power-money-health.com/forum/

  204. 2-0

  205. Penalty!

  206. french-gooner

    penalty

  207. The boyz are pure class!

  208. 2-1 looks like the senior team :)

  209. 2-0!

    Wilshere penalty.

  210. Not sayin the Pool kids are not good but it looks unfair at the moment. feel sorry for them!

  211. I spoke to soon!

  212. Thats was a good strike! cant really blame the defense the ball came straight back to the guy.

  213. Coquelin’s going to be world class.

  214. aaah very close to 3

  215. The Arsenal youngsters play a total different brand of football to the pool players. BRILLIANT!

  216. 2nd half starting now,
    http://www.justin.tv/sheffield_united
Don’t know why its on a blade site thou.

  217. What a pass, what a goal!

  218. How is that Ayala lad still on the pitch?!

  219. Nice, 3-1 there is so much quality on the pitch tonight.

  220. Wilshere is unbelievable!

  221. Paul N
Do you think he learnt that one from Steve Bould? :)

  222. Thats 4-1

  223. french-gooner

who needs ade when we have got emmanuel thomas.just jocking.

  224. great wasnt it!

  225. OMG. If we ever needed a reason to not give up on youth it is on show tonight at the Emirates. Those kids have absolutley battered Liverpool. And the fans Awesome. The future is bright and it is Arsene who will be having the last laugh in the years to come. Come on Arsenal..

  226. shoulda been 5-1, obviously not offside.

  227. Ayling and Bartley just remind me of Keown/Bould and Adams. The two Cb’s, very strong in the air and good on the ground is the future Arsenal CB combo.

There is so much quality on the field yet 90% English. How great for the Arsenal in 2/3 years time? wonderful play.

We should finish them off at Anfield. It could have easily been 7-1 but Lanbury’s finishing was very poor.

  228. …AWs youth policy is really paying dividends…shame all Arsenal supporters cannot get behind him…your performance this season, Patrick, has left a lot to be desired…you can’t support the strategy and playing methods of the whole club…you don’t get to share in the spoils…fuck off you cherry picker…we don’t need you…

  229. So Patrick is Howard, highlighting the “English” players at all times

So your middle name is Patrick? surely your name isnt Howard Patrick!

  230. That was an amazing display!

  231. …well Patrick is not an English name…

  232. Paul – I am already looking forward to next year. I am old enough to know that nothing is guaranteed in this life, least of all to AFC, but to paraphrase KK “I’d just love it” when we stick it to the doomers and gloomers.

  233. How can Patrick be Howard? Howard who? I only joined you recently so what do you mean by Howard. Howard is unknown to me.

I’ve read Howard a few times at Le Grove and Young Guns. So you can search for Howard there.

  234. Oh come now.

  235. ..in fact I believe that originally Patrick is a Roman name…so not even British Isles in origin…oh dear..it seems that you have an Italian name…great for us but it means that you are a foreigner, Patrick…don’t worry….we are very tolerant on this site…in fact nationality means nothing to us…

  236. …no you haven’t …Howard used a different name on those sites…Howard is his ACLF name, Howard…

  237. ..so you are not only not English…but you are a liar, ‘Patrick’….

  238. Frank…as you have said repeatedly…AW is a visionary who has built AFC the greatest foundation of all EPL teams….the foundation of youth. Young players are transitioning to greatness in front of our very eyes….only the blind, moronic fans cannot see. AW once said he never chooses players on the basis of their passport…if an English player is good enough he will succeed at AFC…no need for quotas and special privileges. Unfortunately its fans like Patrick aka Howard (because of xenophobia and racism) who are holding back the club. Unlike all of AW’s squad, no other other club wants them; they are like deadwood which we must overcome in our inevitable success.

  239. Yes Shotta, big things iare in store!

  240. …you are a star, SG….it will all become clear before the game on Sunday…the representatives of the real supporters will show the world what we think of AW and the current squad…we are so close now…it is a very exciting time to be an Arsenal supporter….the supporters have turned the corner….the idiots have had their air time…now we are about to see a class football club with class support….

    ….Arsenal….

  241. I think you’re right Frank – the formerly silent majority have been shocked into standing up and being counted in order to counter the unrelenting negativity that was threatening to overwhelm our club. The performance of the team and the supporters tonight was exceptional. It was great to see so many youngsters watching the game with pleasure, enthusiasm and sheer love for the club.

  242. Just got back from the Youth Cup Final. What can I say but AWESOME. 4-1 to the Arsenal, 33000 people, good atmosphere, great game.

Jack Wilshere was ridiculously good. Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, a premier league superstar in the making. Francis Coquelin, playing like he’d just downed a 6 pack of Red Bull. And can I just say what about our central defenders too? Luke Ayling and Kyle Bartley were incredible throughout. I lost count of the times Bartley won his headers, in fact, i’m not sure he even lost a single header in the whole game.

Also I must say respect to the Liverpool fans, they sung loud and proud even when they were 3 goals down.

Good day to be a gooner.

  243. How I wish Bartley and Ayling are 23/24; the combo is so solid. The difference between this youth team and the first team is that they can attack and also defend. Apart from their technical abilities, they can also be physical.

They play with love written on their faces. Arsene and Bould are doing a good job.

In Coquelin, one can see a real DM growing. He rarely ventures beyond the centre line and has the pace to recover. His passes are also solid; all types, long, short and squares. He can deliver incisive passes too, the kind both Song and Denilson lacks.

  244. Coquelin will be world class. That’s only the 1000th time I’ve said it. I am very excited about that boy. Him, Vela and Wilshere. World Class

J.E.T could be a Tony Adams. Mr. Arsenal. Captain fantastic.

    These boys make me happy.

  245. It could have easily been 7-1 but Lanbury’s finishing was very poor.

Nah, Lansbury set up some really good play, but occasionally it was just too quick and advanced for his team-mates to get on the end of it.

Also Patrick is a very French name, Frenchie.

  246. “Also Patrick is a very French name, Frenchie.”

It’s also popular in Ireland as well!

  247. Yep, Patrick sure does get around doesn’t he.

Another thing I noticed, which was quite strange at first, was that in the second half Jack was actually playing very close the Arsenal back 4, not very advanced at all. But he’d very elegantly rob the ball from the Liverpool player’s feet as they tried to attack, and then within 3 second he was up the other end of the pitch setting up a goal-scoring opportunity. Every time it happened (which was quite a few times), you could sense the sheer amazement from the crowd. This boy Jack does not waste any time!

  248. Fans who fancy Denilson as good DM should just look at Coquelin and realise that Coquelin is unmatched but of his age.

FC is quick and tracks back. He rarely ventures beyond the centre line. He can shoot and can give all sorts of passes. His tackling is solid too.

That’s the kind of solidity in midfield that we need and not what we have.

  249. Denilson is shit compared to coquelin, he is the nuts

  250. Patrick you are jumping the gun a bit. As much as I love this Youth Cup team, you have to realize that they are STILL learning. A lot of them actually play in the reserves regularly, playing against much older, tougher, more-experienced Premier League bench-warmers. They do NOT play as effectively against them as they do against Man City or Liverpool youth teams! When they play for the reserves, they actually seem quite average most of the time (which isn’t too bad, considering their opposition are often at least 5 years older).

If Francis Coquelin was thrown in at the deep end right now, it would kill him. I seriously doubt he’d be able to compete with Denilson, and some of the more vicious and impatient fans would get on his back. Give Coquelin another few years though and sure, he’ll be ready.

  251. Rubbish, he’s pure class and is already better then Denilson IMO

  252. Shut up Dex you moron.

  253. If you’d seen his class you’d see what I mean, superior in all departments and mentally tough

  254. Typical moronic fans comments from both Dex and Howard. This was a game between 2 youth sides not 2 prem league sides. As good as the young guns are they are not yet ready for the rough prem games.

  255. Hey Dex, here’s a tip.

When stating your “opinions”, it’s usually a good idea to try and back them up with some reasoning. This way, people might actually read what you say and not take you for a complete retard.

Example, consider that the year is 600 BC, and you have just discovered the earth is not flat. You run into a nearby village declaring

“The earth is round, the earth is round! It is round because I fucking say so and that is my opinion!”

Despite your ingenious discovery, you would’ve unfortunately wasted a golden opportunity here to forwardly progress civilization’s development by a few hundred years. If however, you had ran into the village declaring that

“The earth is round because I understand it’s relations with the moon and the curvature of the horizon etc etc…”

Then maybe people would’ve listened to what you had to say.

So now, convincingly explain to us why Coquelin should be ahead of Denilson in the team line-up, or fuck off.
