It’s A Myth-tery: Eduardo, Arsene & Ade

Just occasionally there are little gems that surface on the most unlikely of sites. Take for example, this one found on sport.co.uk, talking about Cesc to Barcelona:

The news of such an approach will come as little surprise to either Arsene Wenger or the Arsenal fans who have repeatedly weathered the storms caused by such imaginative reporting.

Yep, that’s right, a site that derives its’ content from others is criticising their reporting skills. You could not make it up.

Onto the usual gubbins. Eduardos injury woes are, hopefully, being put sternly in the past with a solid volley to the seat of their pants, with an operation on his ankle. He will have been out for marginally less time that Tomas Rosicky but let us hope that when the season’s training begins in July, both players are fully fit.

Arsene and Emmanuel Adebayor have garnered more column inches than Peter Andre and Jordan in recent weeks, no mean feat in itself. The manager confirmed his intention to stay at the club:

There’s nothing to worry about, it’s not an issue for me. I’m staying here. If that changes I will let you know, but don’t worry about that. It’s not an issue.

Wenger has received backing from Peter Hill-Wood since the Q&A session that led to the current bout of Arsene-bashing. The loyalty to the manager and the uncertainty about the size of the transfer kitty is being used as yet another stick with which to beat Lord Peter. I am not his greatest fan but he has done little wrong.

Unlike at other clubs where the majority shareholder is the focal point and usually the Chairman, the role at Arsenal is not so ‘important’. Hill-Wood has his football experience to contribute but his shareholdings at the club are not quite minimal but not enough to wield real power. So why is he being made a scapegoat? Like most rational and sane people, he was shocked by the ferocity of the attacks made by Arsenal supporters. He said so but because he disagrees, he is being castigated.

The transfer kitty is reportedly £13m with supplementary money available if Arsene sells. Why has that sum been accepted as the truth? To my knowledge, it originated in the minds of Daily Mail hacks because it fitted in with their series of articles designed to destabilise the club through Adebyaor baiting and winding up supporters. They succeeded but they have no inside track, simply a commercial desire to get hits or sell newspapers.

Even then, there is no divine right for Arsenal fans to be told information that is at the basic level, commercially sensitive. Even shareholders are not entrusted with this information in the normal course of a business. I cannot think of one instance where a company would wilfully share that sort of detail or commercially sensitive equivalents, irrespective of their industry. It is a ludicrous and futile gesture to complain that we should be told.

Wenger is getting some support though. REDaction‘s march before the Stoke City game is being labelled a “March of solidarity“. Personally, I would call it a “Protest March against the numbskull supporters who have whipped this all out of proportion, claiming to represent Arsenal supporters but who in reality are nothing more than egotistical gobsh1tes”. On second thoughts, their title might be a tad more catchy. Still, a chorus of “We Shall Overcome” might not go amiss, albeit somewhat disrespectful to its’ origins.

Meanwhile, Adebayor’s Mr20% is starting to feel the heat. Stephane Courbis is not particularly helping to get his client back into a love-in with Arsenal supporters:

I do not know if the future of Emmanuel is with Arsenal. The only certainty is that at the end of the season I will meet with Wenger to assess the situation.

At least he is not denying talks will take place but I would, sort of, expect that to happen with all of the key personnel in the squad, if nothing else to let them know that the manager still loves them. Problematically for Adebayor, even if he scored forty goals next season there will still be sections who find it hard to forgive him for last summer. A repeat this time is probably going to put the final nail in that particular coffin.

Finally, the official site is asking where were you when Mickey T scored at Anfield. Thanks to a lack of belief on the part of two gentlemen, I was there courtesy of a couple of pints at Waterloo and the face value for their tickets. Gentlemen, if you are reading this, I still salute your faithlessness to this day.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. Seems to be working now

  2. Nope Nirmit

    That was me.

  3. yes Yogi….:( i m 2nd…

  4. Nope that was me as well!!!!

  5. lol… well its your post.. so officially i m the first one to read it….

  6. I don’t understand why Courbis has to “assess” the situation. His client has a deal which, at one year of age, is relatively new. Will Ade take a pay cut, as Arshavin is reported to have taken?

  7. after u of course….

  8. Happy Gooner

Whys AA taken a pay cut?

  9. Given how much money Ade has donated to various good causes, both in England as well as in Togo, I don’t think he is particularly avaricious. Suspect M. Courbis is the villain.

  10. Happy G, it has been reported that Arshavin took a pay cut to join us from ZSP. Reportedly, he is being paid less by us.

  11. I can’t wait to see a midfield of Cesc, Arshavin, Nasri and Rosicky.

I hope Rosicky can get through his challenges before pre-season.

  12. I guess that as Courbis was quoted in the Italian media, responding to questions put to him, that he would “assess” the situation as “Keeping his client’s options open“.

  13. That’s the problem with agents – looking after their client is too often confused with looking out for themselves.

Having said that, I hope Kia J looks out for himself and doesn’t reduce Tevez’s fee. Tevez is the one Manc player I really worry about, even more than Ronaldo and Rooney.

  14. If I were Adebayor I’d get a new agent tout suite.

  15. Why would a chorus of “We Shall Overcome” be disrespectful to its origins? There can’t be a game that is more of a great leveller than football, and Arsenal is very much an international club.

  16. I remember reading a profile of PHW in the Guardian a few years ago which, at one point, compared his record at the club with his father’s. Wish I could remember what exactly they said, but I remember that it was not complimentary.

  17. PDT

    Civil Rights v Arsene’s contract. Hmmmmm….

    YW

  18. OG, I doubt if the new agent will be any better.

  19. Well, it is an ode to unshackling the future, which, ina a sense, is what Arsene is committing to do for the club.

  20. And Dennis Lachter hasn’t gotten into the act yet!

What a summer we are going to have!

  21. The breaking news about us wanting to sign Barry will start any day now

  22. Malaysiangunner

    YW good one.

Tried to post but failed. Good to see the REDaction contributing to the club by supporting AW. Lets see how all these positiveness will translate to on players actions both on and off the field.

Yes , PDT in the attack , there is alot to drool over and I personally can not wait for the season to start again. Just keep every one together, make a huge good signing for the CB and we are good to go. Plus train , train and train to attack and DEFEND as a team.

Plus some investigation or audit should be done on our constant injury situation. Other teams seems to have injured players come back much quicker than Arsenal’s injured players. This can not be right in that for the last 3 seasons it has been so consistently bad. It is costing us big time in the business end of the seasons. We need to keep key players fighting fit.

    Up The Arse!!!

  23. Malaysian

It was a cursed post all round – had to retype it as it all got lost. Then the comments wouldn’t work.

    YW

  24. Wengers a master at all the little things, he must have a modern top class medical staff surely. Most of our signings tend to be quick, skillfull players who by nature get kicked alot

  25. Where do Liverpool & Tottenham get all their money from & why don’t the diamond dealers on our board share some of their wealth?

  26. Rev, they dont have a £500 million pound stadium

  27. Malaysiangunner

    rev

From the major holders who borrow via the club from the banks. If you think the US budget deficits is great relative to their GDP then you should look at ManUres, Spud, and Pools budget deficits. Chel$ki owing does not count until the Russian gets tired of his toy then if and when he wanst back his monies Chel$ki will go bankrupt.

We too owed money but it is against assets and the Highbury Square development who most likely is doing badly but when that turns around we will be OK. With so much money being printed by all the governements of the world , debt for future payment is not a bad idea. If we can we should refinace at much lower interest rates now provided some one is willing to lend us money. In that respect getting pass the first round of the CL is of paramount importance. We absolutely need the money.

    Up THe Arse!!!

  28. Malaysiangunner, which part of Malaysia are you in? I am in Singapore.

  29. Teams tend to be extra physical with us, thanks to the Allardyce doctrine of “Kick them and pack your defence and thou shall come away with one point”.

  30. Malaysiangunner

    PDT

I am in Singapore now but I am Malaysian and have been supporting The Arsenal for 39 years now. But this part of the world is full of Liverpool and ManUres fans

    We are The Arsenal!!!

  31. Although Ade’s behaviour last summer was somewhat questionable at best, I don’t think he would have had the same problems with the fans this year if he was seen to be working hard for the team.

A lot of our defensive problems stem from not enough pressure being put on the opposition through being closed down etc and as that starts with our front man, Ade is the first to get the blame.

The offsides are even worse as he seems to either not understand the offside rule or, more likely, not be sufficiently aware of his position in relation to the last defender. It’s infuriating to hand over posession so cheaply when the strengths of the squad stem from retaining posession.

Maybe he’s right in blaming injuries and having to play up front on his own for too many games, but I’m not so sure.

  32. Great! One more person who can relate to waking up in the middle of the night!

  33. I do wonder what value the shareholders…big and small actually bring to the club…I can see that they will all benefit financially when it comes to selling their shares at some future date…and so they have all made a great investment….I can also see that they have failed to take a dividend for a while….

  34. YW. Re: It’s a Myth-tery……. I know you like your headlines to have some kind of eighties pop references. So is today’s, a quiet nod in the direction of Toyah Wilcox, by any chance?

  35. I’d like to see Eduardo and AA as a pairing upfront.

  36. I like to see not just a successful Eduardo and AA pairing, but many options upfront with Ade, Bendtner, RvP, Walcott, etc. One successful pairing is definitely and obviously not enough.

  37. True. Pre-season experimental pairings will be interesting. But Eduarda and AA interests me the most. I could be wrong but didn’t RVP and Theo strike up a pre-season pairing possilby last season, due to both of them coming back from injury while the majority of the squad were on international duty…
Apologies are likely as past facts are not my strong point!

  38. Contrary to media hype, I think this off-season will be quieter than last, for Arsenal. The squad is all but complete. A defensive addition, or two. The real work starts with fine-tuning defensive organisation. I doubt Ade is going anywhere, his short term ‘value’ somewhat diminished anyway because of ACN. In any event, the Ade-bashers are way off the mark, speculating because of media mischief. But let’s see. 46 goals in 2 seasons is not a lazy effort, although like all our players, he has some off-season work to do.

  39. …and maybe no ‘pairings’ at all…..I prefer ‘multivalent’ teams…where the attacking ‘valency’ is decided during the game….

  40. Wishlist #1: I would like to see Song transformed into The Incredible Hulk, his jersey splitting at the seams, to really dominate as a defensive midfielder. Hahaha!

  41. …Alex Song is developing into a fantastic player….I think he will have a great, great season in 09/10….

  42. As long as he doesn’t get angry

  43. Malaysiangunner

    Frank

Valency sounds very chemistry to me. You a Chemist?

  44. Song had great ball control and alot more vision then Denilson

  45. …has

  46. i think denilson’s ball control is amazing..

    he’s gr8 in tight spaces..

  47. Denilson is a good player, and proved a valuable squad member this year and will continue to next year. I just feel more assured with Song on the pitch right now, his aerial presence and strength has helped us alot in discovering some sort of form this season. The 21 game run shows how Song emerged, hopefully more to come next season from him. Hes as good a DM/CB we will find on the market at his age. Great buy from Wenger.

Apparently his father died when he was 3.. and is know to be a very very strong character, brought his family up like he was the father of the household. I know i know nothing to do with football… but nice to know a bit about your players.

When some players went hiding in the BIG games.. Song played consistently well.

  48. of course.. song is gr8 as well.. :)

  49. steww dont steww

  50. They’re all great – they play for Arsenal.

  51. I have a hunch how they got to the 13m value of the summer kitty. Its simple, the hacks, being hacks can only think up round numbers, and usually odd numbers. Whenever a clubs transfer kitty or players value is being considered its always, “around 30m for berbatov”, “Benitez with 50m for tevez”, Ronaldo’s value has always been an odd number” 70, 90,110 m”.

So 13m, and you add 27 million from the sale of Adebayor. You get 50m transfer kitty. Why 27m because he didn’t perform well so his value goes down from last years quoted 30m.

(the odd numbers usually are the first 1-2 digits, followed by zeros.)

  52. Happy Gooner

We wont get 30 mil for Ade, I reckon twenty five million tops, people are skint. If he has another mediocre season it’ll go down to 10-12 million

  53. And another mediocre season and he’d be worth 5m….and before you know it…we’ll have to pay from our own pockets to offload him.

  54. Any thoughts on the new Away Kit?

    I like it……..

  55. I personally don’t think Adebayor will be leaving, but I’ve been wrong so many times that my opinion is worth nothing. The only opinions that counts are Adebayor’s and Wenger’s. If either one wants him out then he will be out. I don’t think that will happen but…

On the injury front I may have been silly to subscribe to Arsenal, The Official Magazine, but there is an interview in there with Tony Colbert, the fitness coach. First question asked

“Arsenal seem to have had more than their fair share of injuries this season, has this been the busiest season you can remember?”

Answer: “It’s been busy, but no busier than usual I wouldn’t say. I remember back in the 2001/02 ‘double’ season we had some big injuries that year – Pires, Ljungberg, Edu, Adams and Keown among others. So I don’t think it’s been worse this season. I just think it’s highlighted a bit more because they have been at the same time. As soon as you have two or three out, then you are stretching your resources, and that tends to lead to more injuries.”

From the horses mouth so to speak…but it sure does seem like this team is laden with a lot of injuries.

  56. You lot are hoping with all your might he will leave, what will be funny is if a few more leave as well. How would you feel then????? Never wish for something because it might just happen.

Personally i would like him to ignore all speculation and for the squad to keep all its better players. There is no doubt Ade is a valuable member and is one of Wenger’s 1st names down on the team sheet in most games.

If anything i hope we keep everyone, even Eboue, even Silvestre, and add 1 more experienced strong player. Those who listen to pundits who say we need 5 players etc… remember we have Eduardo definately back, Traore back from loan, possibly a fit Rosicky, Nortveit who is meant to be class, and everyone else will be more ready for the challenge. For alot of our players it was very much their 1st bite of 1st team action at Arsenal…

Denilson, Song, Gibbs, Walcott (started regularly 1st season), Bendtner (more game time) Nasri (new league), Fabianski, Djourou (always been injured)

we have blooded many players this season, then benefits will show next season of having so many players who we know we can now call on. Plus keeping everyone keeps a greater team ethic.

  57. @ Malaysiangunner
Thanks for the response yesterday. I still feel that the significant difference in how you view their behaviour is how you feel about each player.

Let it go. I agree with Steww:
“They’re all great – they play for Arsenal.”

  58. Oh yeaa…. we have a very talented group of youngsters (well younger youngsters) waiting in the wings…

Look at Ramsey, Wilshire, Barazite, Freeman, and all the other amazing youngsters. I know every tom, dick n harry is saying we need experience etc… but the more experienced past it players we stick in front of them… the less Cesc’s, Clichy’s, Toure’s, Gibbs’s we get out of it.

1 or 2 experienced stronger players i think will help our youngsters prosper. There aint going to be no shopping spree like Wenger said, you might call him stubborn or whatever, but he is a man sticking to the policy and to the club’s policy. Do we want to be another Spurs, or Man CIty, or Chelski….

    We are the Arsenal!

  59. @ Chrisgoona

AW sets a lot of store by continuity, so I hope that means no-one will leave and one or two will come in.

What’s our best 11? When you go beyond the back 5, it’s really hard to say! Which is fantastic. So it’s definitely a case of wanting additions, not replacements AND additions.

  60. Happy Gooner

    Ade will leave – 100%

  61. Chrisgoona,

I would say most people who are on here regularly want Ade to stay with some vocal minorities.

Outside of the fact that I rate Adebayor I think it would be folly for Wenger to let Adebayor to leave, especially after other senior members of the squad have voiced their displeasure over people leaving last summer.

  62. If only we could be so sure that you will leave, Happy Gooner.

  63. I just don’t know why Adebayor should leave.

  64. Happy Gooner

I spoke to Adebeyor in Havana, Cuba. He said ‘Adebeyor might leave if someones puts in a big offer, Adebeyor is hungry, buy Adebeyor some dry roasted peanuts. Adebeyor respects Wenger but if Henry plays for Barca – why shouldn’t Adebeyor?. Adebeyor is hot, please fan Adebeyor with the cocktail menu’

    Then Adebeyor left the pub

  65. HG..

Many of the Arsenal players want fans like you to leave….

I guess that must hurt, is this why u take it out on some players??

  66. Happy Gooner

Calm down chris no need to get your knickers in a twist

  67. Happy Gooner, so you are an Adebayor fan then. Was it happy hour at the pub?

  68. HG

are you really as stupid as you sound?

  69. Happy Gooner

Chris, Unlike Denilson and Song, Adebeyor brings the criticism on himself. He’s disrespected the club once to often

  70. Happy Gooner

Alex, I have no resepct for Adebeyor, he’s not a bad striker but for thirty million I’d bite Milans hands off

    Chris, Yes

  71. HG

Dont make me sing you another song, you had enough embarassment the other day. Either sort your attitude out and show us what a real supporter is made of – back up your arguments, cut the whinging out, show the players some support!

If you cant do that then so called fans like you are used for amusement and abusement… thats all you ever get. If its not Adebayor it will be Mr Smith in a year or so… or a Bendtner, or an Eboue… just give up.

  72. Is it good to hold something again someone? GIve Ade a break! forgive and move on.

  73. “against” that is

  74. HG

Disrespected the club… look at the facts, Vieira, Cesc, Henry, Pires, Wiltord… etc etc.. near enough all our fu**ing players get their deals bumped up one way or another. Adebayor is a very honest person going by his interviews.. he keeps his options open, he loves the club but he wasnt a supporter, nor was many of our players.

You watch his latest interview in how he reacts to his season, and how its hard for him to play with the fans on his case. You tell me if hes not being honest.

  75. HG – Well at least I think you’ve a sense of humour :-)

So bad enough that Ade looks like he’s out the door (given not only the media speculation but the fact that he’s barely making the bench as well) – RvP has yet to sign on the dotted line as the club, (despite standing by him in his rape allegations, troubles at Feyenoord and his general 25% fitness rate) doesn’t meet his ambitions by qualifying for the semis of the CL. He has said money is not the issue. Wenger has publicly stated how the club has stood by him in the past – so whats up?

  76. The VITAL VITAL VITAL VITAL VITAL VITAL VITAL VITAL VITAL away goal he scored against Villereal has got to be the highlight of our season, and Arshavin’s 4 goals if we won!!… If you want more moments like that then support the guy.

The way things stand, he wont be scoring no goals like that at home. Spurs away… you remember that goal too.
What about all his headers last season on the road as well… a bit of support can go a long way..

Are you incapable of offering that to an Arsenal player?

  77. Happy Gooner

chris, If Adebeyor leaves will you come on here and say ‘I love Tottenham’

  78. HG

Why do you think our little Russian is doing so well by the way….?? why do you think Nasri got off to a blinder….???

Do you think maybe having the backing of the fans helped???

  79. HG

You can ask me that question on any player.. it just represents how pessemistic and speculative you are, and in fact its your section of the Arsenal fans that disrupt our players, and attract negative media attention.

Would you fuc* off and support spurs if nobody left???

  80. If Adebayor were to take a look on the internet and see some of the things Arsenal ‘fans’ have to say about him – then I wouldn’t blame him if he wanted to leave.

  81. HG

Your comments have alot to answer for and require reasons which you cant seem to handle with your pothetic excuse replies.

  82. ChrisGoona, I could not agree with you more. happygooner you are exactly the sort of worthless, so-called “supporter” this club could do without.

  83. Blackstock

He knows exactly what Arsenal fans think, same as every other player can see how fickle a section of our support is. These shit*y fans are giving us a bad name and its time we got rid of them one way or another.

People like UnHappy Gooner need to be pushed out of our club.. they have shown that when shi* hits the fan their support isn’t good enough

  84. Happy Gooner

chris, I hardly ever say anything negative about any of the Arsenal players. You’re taking your frustrations out ont he wrong man I tell you. Adebeyor has said some pretty silly things, and he’s letting his agent put him in the shop window. He’s mugging you off. Fairplay for not slating him, but dont support him for gods sake.

And dont blame it all on the fans, its a major cop-out from the players to do that. If they cant handle our fans they wont be able to handle any fans in the world. Our fans are probably the most easy going

  85. Happy Gooner

chris, AA is doing well because he has more talent in his left testicle then Adebeyor has in his enitire body including his dreadlocks

  86. HG are you a perfect person?

  87. Where the hell do the press think Liverpool are going to get £50 million for Tevez?

One of the papers today is claiming that Real Madrid are going to get Alonso for £23 million, now I wouldn’t be surprised to see Alonso leave Liverpool but if he was available for around £16 – £18 million last summer after winning the Euros why would he now cost over a third more, he is a year older and his contract has a year less to run.

    Sheer lunacy.

  88. Happy Gooner

Paul N, I try to be, but I do make mistakes just like evryone else.

Ade is not making mistakes though and thats my point, him and his agent know exactly what they are doing

  89. Chris,

HG is right. I was a huge Ade fan. I kept pointing to his record and his work ethic in the face of serious criticism. But this year – his relationship with the fans has completely broken down. This is not only due to fans short memories given what happened last summer – but a serious decline in his work ethic and attitude. Its also no coincidence that either he or his agent are shooting their mouths off given any opportunity they get when a little discretion is best called for given the negativity following our season. Ade will never be happy. Far away hills are green. But what doesn’t seem to click with him – is that the italians make even greater demands of their players and neither of the italian clubs can match Arsenals consistency of late so he could well be jumping form the frying pan into the fire. RvP could go too. So not only will we have to reinforce the defense, but also re-arrange the entire offense. I think the arrival of AA will force that eitherway.

  90. …perhaps the will all go…every one em…

  91. …not a player left..even your favourite ones will be off..the stadium will be silent….oh it is already…

  92. …pop concerts…thats the future…or giant games of football manager on enormous screens…

  93. …put glass over the top of stadium and make it a metropolitan Eden project….

  94. …make a huge pool where the pitch is and put sharks in it…offer excellent prizes for people willing to swim across….offer better prizes if they are prepared to swim across with bits of raw meat tied to them….

  95. …this board lacks imagination…

  96. Joe,

Give me a break. Ade hasn’t been had the form he had last season but he still scores one every two. If he can continue that, then he can come on, smoke a cigarette and sit on his ass and I won’t bloody care.

  97. …what else might he sit on?…

  98. …I mean is it possible to not sit on your arse..I mean sit but not on your arse…

  99. Happy Gooner

Frank, I like the pool idea

  100. I’m sad that some fans don’t understand Ade.

He is one of those who is almost too honest. There is no ‘spin’ with Ade. He says it bluntly. Of course, it’s not easy to appreciate this outside of Africa. I can’t say the same for his crap agent.
Ade said he will not leave Arsenal until the team has won trophies because Arsenal ‘made him’. That is loyalty – bluntly and honestly stated.

Second, he is not lazy. According to Wenger, who unlike us, attends practice sessions, he works hard. Much of his seeming ‘laziness’ can be attributed to niggling injuries this year. He has a lazy-looking ‘way’, but he wins and keeps many balls. He is amongst the top strikers of this ‘type’ in Europe – big, strong, awkward, a ball retainer. He seldom loses a ball once he has it. He is fast.

He has a good strike rate. He scores more goals than say, Rooney, for example, or Tevez, or Kuyt, or Heskey and many other ‘rated’ strikers.

But most of all, I can’t understand why anyone would think 30 goals (in any season), followed by 16 – missing a third of the season – is a fluke. Nope, you don’t score 30 goals in EPL as a fluke.

What more do you want from a player? Of course Wenger might have other plans, which is fine.

My guess is Ade is staying, and the will prove the doubters to be completely, utterly wrong – again!

  101. …well a brief check of the reference material indicates that in humans sitting definitely involves the arse…if it doesn’t it isn’t…sitting I mean…it is something else…

  102. He could sit on Joe’s face.

  103. …I don’t think that Ade will go either….he might…but I don’t think so….I don’t think that RvP will go either….why would they…they are about to lead Arsenal into its richest vein of form since record books began….

  104. As Montaigne says, though, however high (or low) a man sits, he still sits on his arse.

  105. …well that confirms it then, PZ…if Montaigne says so…that nails it for me…

  106. In his ability to merge serious intellectual speculation with casual anecdotes…I do believe that Montaigne would have been at home on ACLF…..and…and this is very important….and he had a sword….

  107. Happy Gooner

Maybe the sharks could have Lasers attached to there heads

  108. Mingus

Indeed it was a nod and a wink in her direction.

    YW

  109. I dont want any of our players 2 leave ,keep hold of all of them (maybe not Silvestre),just bring in 1 or 2 and we will be great .

  110. …I really miss the days when people walked around with daggers and swords….I have tried to sell some on the stall before now….keep em under the counter in case the hobby bobbies are about….but you can’t give the fucking things away….of course the anti-knife campaign has killed the market….but swords…where was the harm in it?….

  111. …or a stout staff…as carried by many an honest yeoman….

  112. Happy Gooner

Maybe the Emirates could be used for -

    ‘Inner City Sumo’

We round-up some fat people and put them in nappies.

We then put them in the centre circle of the pitch and get them to try and throw eachother out.

My mate Cock-piss-Partridge told me about it.

  113. Happy Gooner,

The cigars you smoked in Havana seem to make you think you are perfect. Could I have some please?

  114. Hi Friends, Frank and Pz,
‘Tis me ZimPaul aka Zhidhina, which is a nostalgic football name for me.
How you doing? I’ve been up and down this side.
Here, the direct equivalent of a sword is a ‘panga’ used for cutting bushes, sugar cane, and kept very sharp. But the more correct connotation is the spear, an honourable weapon.

  115. Happy G, you are ‘Crab Cake’ aren’t you? Be honest now.

  116. …well what is wrong with that, Zimpaul…if people cannot carry honest weapons like swords, daggers, pangas, spears and staffs then they will find their own solutions…it is my belief that this is how coshes and knuckle dusters and other ‘low’ weaponry have come about….I mean I am not advocating supporters turning up for games with staffs…not at all…but if every stadium had somewhere to leave them just inside the entrance…like a …well…like a…well…a staff room…then where’s the harm?

  117. Happy Gooner

Alex, Yes, there availible at all good london housing estates

  118. I remember this classroom in northern Tanzania, remote, and on the blackboard algebra, and a Shakespeare play (Romeo and Juliet) from the day’s lessons. They were all dressed in traditional garb, flowing red and black cloth – Masaai and Balbeck nomads.

And against one wall (not allowed at your desk you see) piles of weapons, knobkerries (a kind of bludgeoning thingy), and spears aplenty.

Kind of surreal. It’s an interesting world.

  119. .

  120. Really funny!

  121. Frank @ 4.55pm – Absolutely brilliant. I think that I will make it through the summer after all, all I have to do is read that once a week.

  122. That was a hilarious article on Vital Arsenal. Tomorrow LG’s author will attempt to play the victim once more and try to forge a seige mentality among the doomers. The readers fall for it every single time.

  123. …here’s another one….hilarious…

  124. First!

  125. Sorry.

I didn’t know Mihir Bose is a spuds fan. Same goes for Richard Littlejohn, Phil Collins, Arjen Robben, Jerry Springer, celebrity news-wanchor Jeremy Thompson and Jude Law.

    What a bunch of tossers.

  126. where is everyone?

  127. Wenger is staying. The anti-supporters have lost, and have nothing to say.

  128. Seems so, was that ever in doubt though?

  129. If the papers can be believed, it looks like Senderos wants to stay at Milan – do you hear much about him in Italy Poliziano?

  130. I don’t live in Italy at the moment, and I don’t really pay any attention to Italian football (except the international team). As I’m sure you know, it is unendurably boring.

  131. I’ll be sorry if Senderos stays in Italy, but I won’t be surprised.

  132. Sorry Poliziano, I thought you were based in Italy. But according to Setanta he gave an interview to the Milan website saying he hopes to stay but it’s up to the two clubs. Like you, I think it would be a shame to lose him, but not a surprise. He’s definitely one player who has been chased out by the boo boys.

  133. I think Milan have to pay £8M if they want to keep him. Is that right? Can they afford him?

I suppose I’ll be happy for him to get what he wants. I just wish he wanted to return to Arsenal.

As you say, he didn’t get support from the fans when he most needed it.

  134. Adebayor is dishonest. We don’t need mercenaries like Adebayor at the club.

Do you know he flew to meet Milan’s Galliani in Italy last summer and lied about it?

That is the problem with all these foreign players, even though average, they never stop unsettling the club every summer. More reason we should recruit only English players this summer.

  135. I’ll be astonished if we sign any English players in the summer. Even Martin O’Neill has admitted that foreign players are needed if Aston Villa are to challenge for fifth place.

  136. I’ve just read that Cesc has been cleared of all charges brought by the FA, but of course the source (Daily Fascist) can’t help but try to have a dig about the outcome!

If that’s confirmed it will be great to have some good news for a change!

  137. What about Breakdown?

  138. “My future? I do not know what will happen. I like the club, I like Milan, I like everything here, but the decision is not mine. I will accept the decision the two clubs make together…”

Looks like Senderos’ statement was not quite as equivocal as Setanta was suggesting?

  139. 13+27=40, not 50

    “Even Martin O’Neill”??!!!!!

  140. “What about Breakdown?”

They didn’t say other than he’s likely to face a fine for his comments about the referee

  141. Frank,

Can’t be bothered to follow links; why are they good?
As for me…well I sit on my buttocks
