A Night To Remember Not Four-get At Anfield

Liverpool 4 – 4 Arsenal

0 – 1 Arshavin(36)
1 – 1 Torres (49)
2 – 1 Benayoun (56)
2 – 2 Arshavin (67)
2 – 3 Arshavin (70)
3 – 3 Torres (72)
3 – 4 Arshavin (90)
4 – 4 Benayoun (90)

Arsene said after the match that he was ‘half happy’. Little doubt that the other half of him was relieved, for a multitude of reasons, not least of which is that a ‘1’ could quite easily have been inserted before the ‘4’ in the Liverpool score were it not for an outstanding display under the circumstances by Lukasz Fabianski. Strange as it seems, the Pole had a blinding first half where he wiped away any doubts he had about his abilities with a string of excellent saves that allowed Arsenal to enter the interval with a goal advantage. Arshavin is garnering the headlines but it would a close call for Man of the Match.

Four goals away from home is no mean feat yet it is tinged with disappointment. To have held the lead three times – the last with barely two minutes remaining on the clock – and to walk away with one point is something that Wenger and the squad will regret. That Arsenal were battered for an hour and deserved to be trailing will temper that somewhat.

Liverpool started brightly and were able to dominate possession. Fabianski was called into action early on with a ‘routine’ save from Torres. Shortly afterwards, he had rolled back the years, diving at Benayoun’s feet in a manner that Bob Wilson would have been proud of. It was to set the mark for the game. Where Fabianski scores highly is his ability to ‘forget’ mistakes quickly. Make a hash of a cross? No problem – the next one is connected with.

When Fabianski was beaten, Nasri and Gibbs both popped up with timely interventions. I felt sorry for Gibbs all evening. He was exposed on the left, Liverpool regularly doubling up on him to get around the back and deliver a threat from the wings. To his credit, he did not let it ‘get’ to him and continued to fight until the last minute. Fortunately for Arshavin, he scored four goals for his all round contribution to the game was lacking. The flipside of that coin though is that the Russian did exactly what he was purchased for; scoring.

Unfortunately for him, his part in the fiasco that led to Liverpool’s second was punished. Silvestre, under pressure, played a poor backpass to Fabianski. He then was pressurised and played a poor pass to Gibbs, the stands a better option, surely? Gibbs then was pressurised and Kuyt repeated his cross for the equaliser when he capitalised on a poor Sagna clearance. Both goals avoidable from that perspective.

Liverpool will no doubt feel the same about the Arsenal goals. The first was a good team goal. Fabregas and Nasri both tackled Mascherano hard to dispossess him before working a neat passing move to free the Spaniard on the right for an excellent cross for Arshavin to score. He followed that by capitalising on a mistake by Arbeloa to drill home a fierce drive across Reina.

By this time the match became increasingly manic. Liverpool once more dominated possession and created some dangerous situations although tending to rely upon set pieces. Yet it was Arsenal who took the lead, Arshavin punishing sloppy defensive work in the hosts penalty area.

It was not the end of matters though. Walcott broke from a Liverpool corner and found the ideal pass to Arshavin who proved that he has technique his English counterparts can only dream of, by leathering the ball home with his left foot.

At that point, the game should have been closed out, even with a makeshift defence. Yet, as in last season’s Champions League, we failed to do so. On that occasion, the defence was considerably stronger in make-up than last night so the usual criticisms are being fielded. There is an element of truth in that. The current squad lack that crucial aspect of the game on occasion and that is the key. There are momentary lapses but to lay the blame entirely at the door of Silvestre is not correct. Collectively, there were mistakes but this quartet has probably not taken the field together before; that takes time together to adjust to.

One man who set an example to them all was Toure. Whatever ailed him on his return from last year’s African Cup of Nations has worked through his system and his performance last night was reminiscent of those that made him one of the best defenders in the world. He was everywhere, blocking, tackling at times like a whirling dervish.

A good point, tempered by the knowledge it could have been more. Even so, a confidence building result given the exit from the FA Cup at the weekend. More importantly, players are returning to fitness at the right time ahead of the Champions League clashes with United. Anyone worried by them should not. There is enough quality in this squad for progression to the final.

  1. …………that game yesterday was sooo HOT……..

  2. One of those matches where you didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. One thing is abundantly clear our best form of defense is attack!!

  3. Heard on arseblogg that Bendtner’s and Cesc’s goals were onside???

  4. So we won 6-4. Not bad.

  5. There might be difficulties in interpreting statistics, but that doesn’t mean they can be rejected whenever they disprove one’s own opinion.

  6. Frank's biggest fan

We didn’t have any composure with the way we defended as a team. The players who were on the bench for the Chelsea game : Nasri, Arshavin, Bendtner, Song were all fresh and better than the rest. Sagna was just coming back from flu, and lacked fitness and required sharpness. Denilson has lost confidence and shouldn’t really have played that badly. Look at Gibbs, he is young and showed his fitness playing immediately in 3 days. Apart from Denilson, the team did what they could after playing in that horrible wembley turf. Cesc couldn’t move properly. Touré looked edgy once but played like a warrior next to a walking disaster in Silvestre. Fabianski was good and would have done better with a composed back-4 in front of him. Gave his all, you can’t fault him.We have to work on our substitutions, we can’t give away goals straight after a substitution. AW needs to sort that out. We need to work on our clearances better (Ditto Liverpool defence).

  7. I have read every report and blog that i can find about last nights game, and the one name that is missing from every single one is Bendtner. Why oh why do we persist with this overated under acheiver.

  8. ………..very true Pz but it was to be Arshavin’s night…..having just watched the game again it’s clear as Yogi has pointed out Gibbs didn’t get the support from AA that was required…. does anyone know why Nasri was moved from the wing to support Bendtner instead of AA…?

  9. Not at all, 1964. As ChrisGOONER has just informed us, he scored our winning goal. An excellent finish from a very tight angle.

  10. Frank's biggest fan

Fortunately for Arshavin, he scored four goals for his all round contribution to the game was lacking.

    Wrong, Yogi.

He definitely worked hard as the attacking midfielder coming from left. He even put some tackles in and helped out Gibbs when Denilson was ball watching.

    Chalkboard of Arshavin’s display:

    http://i44.tinypic.com/2r3wbw4.jpg

  11. It’s worth reading yogi’s Liverpool link … it’s interesting and a bit of history in there.

  12. Alex Ice Cream

    1964,

Bendtner is only 21 and was playing upfront on his own – not his favoured position. He scored a great goal that was not offside (I think).

Why do we persist with him? Isn’t it obvious? He has talent, that’s why.

  13. Don’t forget who scored the goal against Wigan that gave us the lead for good and 3 points. A certain Silvestre. (Sure, a simple tap-in. It still needs to be converted and be there to convert it.)

It could very well have been 1 point instead of 3 because the final score of 4-1 flattered us. The last 2 goals were scored in 90+ mins.

Let’s be measured when judging one of our players.

  14. Still feeling a bit dizzy after watching the game.

Arsh is class. I’d tip my hat to Song, too. He may be blamed for not protecting the central defence enough, he harrased ‘pool’s MF and won several balls and his passing was good as well.

Gibbs will learn from these games, and he was far from being the worst in our defence. Cesc’s wasted so far upfield, and he was caught in possession several times yesterday even when he tracked back. Set up a good goal, ‘though. Good second half from Nasri.

    Right, I need more coffee.

  15. Bendtner had to play at top on his own, he done alrite i thought. But u look at the difference down the other end, Torres was amazing and caused us problems all night long. Bendtner didnt really trouble their defence at all im afraid to say, i expected him to hurry them alot more. He looked very lazy with his tracking back as well.

I aint a hater of the lad, i think he has talent and will be a good typical strong CF. He can spring a pass or two as well… but last nights performance didnt warrant much. If that goal counted maybe we would all have a different perspective.

  16. Very good analysis. Only forgot to mention my MOTM besides Arshavin of course.

Song, he was composed, combative, congratulations to him.

It was a tough game, against a team in top form looking for the title, so a good result. We are unbeaten for 19 games, and still to put together anything like our best 11, so lets get behind the boys, as some blogs are going way over board with their criticism of the side last night.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  17. Pol,

I am not saying you should reject stats, or use them as an absolute – what i am saying is that they are always open to intepretation, and there is always going to be a grey area on some.

For example – the stats show that Arshavin made twice as many tackles as Silvestre yet people here are questioning his all round performance?

It could be that because he is in midfield, the ball was in play in that area more, resulting in more tackles?

So is the stat 100% right, or is it 100% wrong, or somewhere in between?

There are too many variables to use stats as an absolute.

  18. thanks brdgunner … exactly right …

  19. Comparing Bendtner to Torres is a little unfair at this stage in time, Torres is probably the best striker in Europe on current form.

  20. Liverpool spent more time attacking than we did, so it is inevitable that the performance of Torres should appear better than that of Bendtner.

  21. Alex Ice Cream

    Matt,

Interesting stat on AA’s tackling. What an awesome player.

    Can’t compare Bentner to Torres.

  22. Frank's biggest fan

“He looked very lazy with his tracking back as well.”

You can’t fault him from last night’s display. We should be watching different games I reckon, In my estimation he looked promising with the way he fought on his own (I specifically counted 50-50 domination in the air against Agger & Carra – especially good control and technique to bring the aerial lobs to his feet) and covered ground up front.

  23. I sometimes look at the statistics they put on Arsenal.com before matches, and the numbers for tackles are often very surprising, with tackles for attacking players being higher than expected, and tackles for defensive players being lower than expected.

  24. to all the danehaters: bendtner was working hard and was tactically isolated for long stretches of the match, arsenal only started to deserve a point after walcott replaced denilson, whom i like, but he just loses to many balls and has a lot of slips of concentration.

  25. anyboy got an idea what the five minutes of added time were meant to make up for?

  26. Nice one Yogi. I enjoyed the Liverpool Blog. Not some relative writing it, is there? Very level headed.

I made the Bob Wilson comparison to Consolslel last night. That save at Torres’(?) feet reminded me of Bob dispossessing George Best in the same way at Highbury in 1970 (?). Best went running on thinking that he still had the ball! Manu had on horrible purple shirts I seem to remember.

Too much analysis of a brave performance from our usual injury ridden side. Well played Arsenal, well played ‘pool. They, ‘pool, earned some respect last night.

  27. There’s not much more to say that hasn’t already been said. Our make-shift defence needs a few more games to get a better understanding. Unfortunately, those games are massive! Anyway, I am drooling at the prospect of an Arshavin / Eduardo combination.

  28. Frank's biggest fan

It seems two goals were wrongly disallowed. One from Bendtner and other from Cesc.

  29. one last thing: abou diaby gets on to the pitch, just to watch the frantic final minutes in arsenal’s box from a safe distance? was he waiting for another counter attack to score a fifth?

  30. Malaysiangunner

    YW good analysis

I can not contend with you on AA contribution being lacking except the goals as I did not watch the game yet.

But if can consistently add to the attack in 12 games 7 assist, and 7 goals not all starts. He may yet outperform the great TH 14. So he not only score goals he contributes in the overall attack. His passes is sharp and causes the opposition all sorts of problem.

If he can be trained to track back MORE(from what I have seen of him he has already done so) when we are under pressure he will be an even brighter star.

I am excited about the future, if we do not win anything this season it is OK, next season we will RULE the world.

    Up Th Arse!!!

  31. Nicky B played a good game. Wait till the other players begin to defer to his intelligent runs in the box…ooh. The kid will be more than alright in a year or two. Bendtner will be world class!!!!!!

Lovely writeup YW. Felt the draw was the least the Scousers deserved. I wonder if the FA routinely takes their urine samples @ Liverpool. They are such a manic team.

Wish we played Liverpool once a month to remind our young players (& finicky fans) of how good we really are. What a game!

Can’t really blame any one player considering the overall realities surrounding our team right now. Got to give it to Fabianski for his 1st half performance. What a way to come back from birthday blues.

AA was class. His 2nd goal was of perfect technique & I hope the younger ones were inspired enough by it.

Oh well, on to the next game in good spirits.
Sagna & Almunia should be fitter. Time we pulverized Aliadiere & his chums. U know, show them that we are in fact THE BEST….

    We are THE ARSENAL!

  32. I am a Liverpool fan and must say that last night was a great game between two great teams. Unlike our recent games against a certain west London club, there was no attempt whatsoever to cheat or con the ref by Arsenal (not that I’m implying that I am surprised by this), only that it was refreshing considering our recent games against THAT team!! At times you looked out of the game in terms of possession and how strong we looked. However, your boys stuck in there and always looked dangerous going forward and played the game in great spirit! No diving or antagonism between players etc!!
To me this mirrored the great comments I have read from your fans (from a number of sources) regarding the 20th anniversary of Hillsborough last week.
So much respect to Arsenal and I sincerely hope you can do the job in Europe this season!!

  33. i had a dream sorry but i feel this season like the last 2 or 3 are going to end in pain piss poor defending from both teams i don’t know if i can handle watching next week sometimes i hate football and last night summed it up ,was it a good game was it a poor game bring back senderos .. arshavin brilliant why oh why was he on the bench saturday .. and he’s not about for the semi’s bad dream !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Song was excellent once again.

Denilson, Bendtner, Sagna, and Silvestre were all struggling to get a grips of the game… It was a very fast game, and with a makeshift defence and just having played on saturday we done alrite to get a point… 4-3 in the 90th min i think every1 will be gutted not to have taken 3 points back home.

Remember for liverpool this was their season, they are not a bad team… i cant remember any other team given us a good battering for possession and chances like that this season. Man City only springs to mind and we were having all sort of troubles then. Like Wenger said, we can be half pleased. Hopefully a few more regulars get back in time to steady the ship!

  35. I enjoyed reading that Liverpool perspective on the game – he must be the Liverpool equivalent of Yogi – very balanced and measured. I particularly liked this point about our team which some of our own fans missed:

“out of all the sides that have played at Anfield over the last few years Arsenal seem to have the least fear? Many would have crumbled in that atmosphere however, they bided there time (the footballing equivalent of Ali’s “dope on a rope”?) and struck.”

  36. Passenal

we are the Arsenal, we show no fear!!

look no further than to last season at the San Siro mate.. never underestimate our lads

Arshavin, Cesc, Nasri, Song and Theo in midfield are going to be great for us… its a shame AA isnt 21 as well ahahha

  37. “I sometimes look at the statistics they put on Arsenal.com before matches, and the numbers for tackles are often very surprising, with tackles for attacking players being higher than expected, and tackles for defensive players being lower than expected.”

In a way that’s not surprising given the nature of our game – the ball is usually in the attacking part of the pitch more often than in the defensive positions. It is also linked with us trying to defend from the front, which Arsene must be drumming into the players as they all mention it in their interviews.

Thanks for the fair comment Ben – I have a couple of LFC supporting friends so I wish you luck snatching the PL championship from Man U since we can’t do it this season.

  38. Welcome, Ben, the Liverpool fan. Respect beget Respect. Your support of Liverpool FC is 2nd to none, and we gooners would do well to emulate such strong support for our club through thick and thin. Now that we have played the last game of this season against each other, I wish LFC the best of luck in your quest to wrest the title off Man Utd. I note that we have a common disdain for the same West London club.

  39. Alex Ice Cream

I think it was California as well as myself who were attacked when we suggested that if AW rated AA highly he should pay the “extra” £2m-£5m needed to sign him if the deal would be scuppered otherwise. In the end we got the best of both worlds!

I was told that it was wrong to “overpay” for players and that £2m-£5m was a lot of money.

I wonder now how many would rather have an extra £2m-£5m in the bank instead of Arshavin, our best player.

  40. That’s the whole point in comparing. to highlight differences, no? I do not see what fairness has to do with it, really.
I rate Torres highly. He is the best in the premiership for sure. but the best, second best, and maybe even third best in Europe are with Barcelona FC.

Excellent match, and very disappointing at the same time. More than ever, our principal weakness is at the back. but I am more worried with the fact that even when we take both leaky defenses out of the equation, we were pressured the whole game, just like we were pressured against Chelsea.

  41. KEV, you sound like a glass half empty person – your bad dream may well come true or equally it may not. But that is football. There are no guarantees, all we can do is hope for the best and back the team even in the face of the injuries which have decimated our defence. Faith and belief is all we have.

  42. ………..Just like to metion that while our defence has been plagued by injuries what was happened to Liverpools famed two lines of defence that we have come to expect for Benetiz their defending was just as comical….

  43. …AIC you really are such a f*cking puff, son….

  44. you’ve got to love ACLF haven’t you.

Yogi – I rarely disagree with your comments, but I’m going to take the other side of the argument re AA’s all round contribution. In the second half his tackling and ball retention were excellent, I thought. He did have a quiet first 45.

re. 1964 @ 10.58 – sorry I have to do my usual defence of Nick B. He was upfront all on hos own, the gap between him and the rest of the team was large, partly due to how we were set up and partly due to Liverpool battering us. He had his back to goal all match. And he had Carragher and Agger up his backside all night. A diificult exam paper and he got a B in my opinion.

And I still say he is the best 4th choice striker in the Prem.

I’ve also got to mirror comments about the Anfield crowd. They are bloody superb. They were the reason they went thru in last years CL qtr, and not us. The ref caved in their face when Babel dived for that pen. The ref did not cave in the face of our crowd when Hleb was pulled down at The Emirates. Wafer thin differences, and the crowd play their part (or not in our case).

  45. Good Grief, you are right again, AIC! How prescient of you to know not only what AA was worth but what we actually paid for him. I am in awe.

What will you dig up next?

  46. …isn’t it Chelski wo always have two lines of defenders, Maria?….

  47. i dont think anyone is claiming bendtner is the best in the world, even the best at arsenal, so it is foolish to compare. he’s a player with potential, he deserves his occasional start and when RVP and Ade are out its logical he gets a game. it would be fairer to compare like with like and compare our no 1 striker with theirs.

  48. Silvestre, Cesc, Denilson were well below arsenal standard. Cesc not only alowed liverpool to steal the ball from his feet several times, he got in the way of team on numerous ocasion messing our play up… that was the wrong position for him.

on the other hand Song was his now usual excelent self.. what a power house of good footballing technique. Ashavin was super clinical to say the least… i would like to see ashavin and eduardo playing the same time (just imagine the beautiful football). Anyway we should have won the bloody game even though we were out played for a considerable length of time. We took our chances and capitalised…
    The Troof

  49. Re AA and his defensive capabilities, I remember someone posting just after he signed, his CL Tackling stats, or something similar, showing that he was the best in the competition up until his club exited.

Anybody cast any light on that? My view of his first few games is that he does tackle back effectively.

  50. ….Arsenal supporters at the Arsenal Stadium have a long, long way to go before they can be compared to Liverpool supporters at Anfield…..our support is generally very poor…except for the odd important game …even then a large proportion of the crowd do not stay to watch the whole game…

  51. Welcome Ben, and thanks for the nice post.

I thought Liverpool played a fantastic attacking game.

  52. …why are you repeat posting, TT?…

  53. …a wheedling puff is what your are, AIC…..been like that all season….

  54. Good interview with Lucasz on ATVO for anyone with access

  55. We should not underestimate the work put in by the pool players.. i think they showed a lot of industry.. gave no space.. they were hungrier for the win than we were.. and the pool crowd was truly intimidating (Wish Emirates was like this).. yesterday pool were truly better than us.. and they went up a notch in my view..

Is it me or was fabregas poor yesterday (he has been poor most of this season imo.. has not reached the heights of last season).. hope he picks up for the manu game..

cant criticise any of our boys.. the defending was comic but we gave our everything..

    nasri,song,lukasz,toure – good..
AA – Star man( not many can score 4 in anfield)

All hail our lil russian magic man !!

  56. What a game, our two disallowed goals were probably on side, but we were lucky at the other end not to concede more. Our current defence is shredding my nerves every time I watch us play, we’ve never looked solid for a second (Valencia game excluded).

The draw was a fair result, and lets not forget, it doesn’t really matter to us any more. Realistically we’re going to finish 4th, no higher no lower. At least having no defence will make for some interesting end of season games in the PL.

CL is another matter though :s

  57. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

You have no argument against my last post so you resort to name calling which is your level.

The bottom line is that you were wrong but you just can’t admit it. You don’t like me because I have proved you wrong and worse, you have failed to bully me off this blog.

I find your so called insults laughable and you obviously have a character defect in that you can only respond with force when someone disagrees with you. You act tought but are in fact a very weak character.

I am not scared of you Frank so you are wasting your time. I am willing to wager that you are more scared of me as I could encourage others who you try to bully from staying on the blog.

I almost feel sorry for you but you are not worthy of my pity.

  58. Frank's biggest fan

LAst time we played Valencia, Carew destroyed us! :(

  59. Alex Ice Cream

    above should read

“as I could encourage others who you try to bully to stay on the blog”

  60. Alex Ice Cream

    Last 2 times!

  61. ……….So essentially AIC you are a the troll manager that everyone thinks you are…..well, atleast your self aware…

  62. ………A special thanks for encouraging Franchise to stay on this blog…..well do you….

  63. Edengrave

That is what worries me too… “but I am more worried with the fact that even when we take both leaky defenses out of the equation, we were pressured the whole game, just like we were pressured against Chelsea.”

Ive noticed this pressure too, we aint holding the ball anymore. Although we are still scoring, it would be nice to just see our players play it around a little so come 90mins they aint completely exhausted.

  64. Trolls…. puffs……

Sure are some weird names being thrown about on here…..

  65. Y.W. – Ur the best. Balanced, considered, thoughtful as usual. I have read similar reports in the English press and by many Arsenal bloggers (together with the obligatory player-ratings) and they are hilarious, until you realize that they are opinion-makers, and your head hurts. Ur link to the Liverpool blog was just as insightful.
Example – Most of them give AA a player rating of 10. Thank god, Passenal I think, referred to his blog where he himself admitted he was mostly crap in the 1st half.

Anyways, I am really proud of ACLFers, who in the run-up, during the game and after, refuse to fall for this manic attitude towards OUR team. We refuse to play this game where we belittle or big-up certain players at the expense of others, to belittle the opposition, and to drive a wedge between the team and the fans.

Sorry, won’t be able to post much today.
Mostly the OTT ratings given to Arshavin

  66. re checked with source regarding RVP delicate contract negotiations as reason why he started on Saturday and AA did not.

    confirmed 100pct.

source is ex player currently on staff.

  67. Maybe AA didnt play that well in the first half – but he did score 4 goals, away from home, so you can understand some people giving him top marks….

  68. ***Villareal, not Valencia, obviously.

  69. …I was not wrong, AIC….I think that AA is a wonderful player….I think we have other wonderful players in the squad too..many of us share that opinion….which is why I am always optimistic about Arsenal….

…but you are a puff….. as discussed with Franchise yesterday.. ‘puff’ means exagerrated praise…as for promotional purposes…overblown…it means you think too much of yourself…check out Sheridan’s plays….

…I don’t want you to be afraid of me…and I have no problem with you posting here….in fact you never fail to give us the best example of a ‘puff’…the hack dwarf is another one….actually his opinions are remarkably similar to yours…

…as for this player is better than that player…when both are exceptional….bit immature don’t you think?…..but you forced yourself into that ridiculous position becuase you are….a puff….

  70. Alex Ice Cream

    maria,

Trolls are soon identified. I have no authority or desire to censor Yogi’s blog and you can think what you want of me.

In answer to your post yesterday I would want to keep everyone in the squad with the possible exception of Eboue. He’s a decent squad player at a push and although he has improved and stopped diving I just don’t think he is good enough and his wages could be better spent. If he stayed I would have no issue with it though.

We need a centreback though. Zapata has been mentioned but I have only seen him play once or twice so I can’t comment on whether I think he is good enough. Agger may be available but again I haven’t seen him enough to know. Chielli perhaps but not seen enough of him and he probably won’t leave Italy.

  71. A performance for the ages or just a strange quirk on an evening of oddities?

Andrey Arshavin touched the ball on only 20 occasions against Liverpool last night, four of those touches resulting in an incredible four goals – the first player to score four at Anfield in a league game for over 60 years.

Arshavin’s 16 successful passes compare unfavourably with the 41 of the man on Arsenal’s other flank, Samir Nasri, but his deadliness in front of goal is certainly not in doubt…

  72. …which ex player, Matty?…there are some bright ones and some stupid ones…some tell the truth…some wouldn’t know the truth if it jumped up and hit them in the face…..identifying the ‘source’ is important..and the contest that the ‘information’ was given in..only then can we establish or at least venture our opinions as to the veracity of the ‘news’…..if you can share the news….why not the identity of the ‘source’….

  73. Steve Bould.

  74. contest=context….although contest might be more fun…

  75. ….oh excellent…do you know Steve Bould?…

  76. I do Frank.

  77. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

That was a bit better. If you think that I think too much of myself then that’s fine. Maybe we are all guilty of this from time to time?

I have no promotional purpose though.

Why don’t we stop the name calling and stick to football. Let’s keep it civilised after all we obviously both love Arsenal.

The RvP and Arshavin point that I made a few weeks ago is that both of them prefer to play the number 10 role. In my opinion AA is the better player and he should play in his best position which means no room for RvP in the 1st team unless AA doesn’t play.

This doesn’t mean I hate RvP or even dislike him. It doesn’t mean that I don’t rate him because I do. I just believe that AA is a better number 10 and he should play in his best position. That’s it.

  78. ….which players does he think are going to make it?….

….does he think that RvP will sign a new contract?…or will he be off in the summer?…

…what does he think of Adebayor?….what does he think of RvP?…ditto Nick….

    ….does he read blogs?….

….is a he a straight forward sort of guy or does he play games…..good coach I reckon…?

….the dam has burst here, Matty…this is massive…

…this news is going to be round the blogosphere and in the papers by morning…..

  79. …shut up, AIC there are more imprtant issues to discuss here…

  80. Anyway, to change the subject, since we’ve analysed the last 2 games to the nth degree, I hope the under 18′s get a good crowd tonight and get past Man City in their semi-final. I’m really disappointed that ill-health is forcing me to miss the game, which is why I’ve had time to waste on here this week! Rather ironic for the ACLF minister for Health!

  81. …wow, matty…this is sensational…what did he mean by RvP had to play for contract reasons….was RvP about to walk if he did not get to play in the FA Cup Semi?…is that what he meant…better get this right beacuse the tabloids and Arsenal blogs could really hammer RvP for this….crucify him in fact …

  82. well i hope he doesnt read this blog otherwise i’m in trouble. good job i’m under a pseudonym !

  83. Matty, that could still be his opinion rather than actually knowing something, because I’m sure he’s not actually involved in the contract negotiations.

  84. ….well you need to tell more Matty…what was the context?…why is he involved in RvPs contract negotiation?…

  85. i think there were some footballing reasons to pick RVP, as has been disected and alluded to on here very heavily.
and then there were the contract negotiations, which could have proved to be the tipping point in the decision on the day.

a big picture decision – especially if you think that if the match had gone to extra time both players would have been on the pitch for similar length of time.

i don’t think this is anti RVP, he doesn’t pick the team does he. this wasn’t a ”pick me on satrurday or i walk” scenario.

  86. The media claim that Arshavin is a departure from Wenger’s policy.

These guys can be so stupid sometimes. Wenger has a youth policy but the fact has always been that when Wenger buys a player to fill a position in the team today he buys experienced players.

He bought Rosicky, he bought Gallas, he bought Eduardo, he bought Silvestre…

Where does this silly myth come from?

  87. ….what is your opinion of RvP, Matty….?…before and after this piece of news that Steve Bould gave you….

  88. no no Frank – def not involved in contract negotiations. that has to be just AW and Gazidis doesn’t it ?

    as Passenal says.

  89. i am a big RVP fan.

  90. AIC you are a magic dragon!

  91. …I can’t imagine AW picking a team for anything other than football reasons…but there is a hint in your ‘news’ that some sort of extortion was occurring….and that without the contract negotiation RvP would not have been picked?….could AW not have picked AA and RvP?….

  92. dsqd’s attaitude in the comment above disgusts me. What does he mean it doesn’t matter? 3rd is better than 4th. MUCH BETTER. And it makes a difference in qualification too….

This is evidence of media brainwashing of some fans. The media have so long said that 4th was Arsenal’s this season and this is internalised by fans.

EL NO! We’re looking to finish as high as we can, and we should still aim to beat Chelsea at home and Man poo away.

  93. …but Steve Bould said to you Matty that AW was in a position where he was going to pick either RvP or AA but was undecided and went with RvP becuase of his contract negotiation…and he told Steve Bould this…?

  94. Maria i see that our strange obsession with each other is on full swing

  95. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

Ok, let’s move on from that but I am trying to diffuse some hostility between us.

    What say you?

  96. this was SB’s perception.

i’m a bit uncomfortable with this now, inappropriate blogging on my behalf.

  97. ….whilst I am not disputing the fact that Steve Bould knows or is related to you, Matty…is it possible he was pulling your whatsit?…what was the context of the conversation?…

  98. RVP has already come out and said he wants to stay and the management want him to stay. He is happy to wait until the end of the season to conclude the negotiations because Arsene wants to focus on the big games ahead. There’s an interview on ATVO to this effect. I don’t think he needs to be given ‘sweeteners’ to stay. If it’s true that he wants his ambition to be matched by the club, that will include competition for places from more established players. I would have thought he would welcome that. And besides, RVP has earned that starting spot by his performances on the pitch this season. In fact didn’t he score the 2 goals that beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge? Maybe that had more to do with the manager’s decision making process.

  99. Alex Ice Cream

    Matty,

I have no reason to doubt you but if this is true this asks a number of uncomfortable questions.

  100. …fine, AIC…but the Matty, SB, RvP, AA thing is explosive stuff…a real rarity on a blogsite…

  101. Alex Ice Cream

    jeffers,

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a magic dragon?

  102. puff the magic dragon..he lived by the sea

  103. Matty

I think its best you keep ur mouth closed, if any of that is true.

If the media get their dirty hands on that info, hell will break loose.. we dont need negative publicity. Frank shut ur mouth

  104. …it seems scarcely credible, Matty…but cast your eyes around the Arsenal blogosphere and there are many RvP haters who would love this piece of info…..including the hack dwarf himself…who I am beginning to think was spurned by RvP…his hatred is so intense…

  105. Wenger has his reasons for picking his starting XI’s… they are down to him. Why rattle your brains wondering why he picked this player or that??

  106. …you really are a f*cking idiot, CG…an absolute prize…Arsenal bloggers specialise in negativity….why do you think some of us here adopt the stance we do…catch on and keep up, son…

  107. Alex Ice Cream

It raises the sceptre of too much player power and that the contract negotiations are not settled.

If true it doesn’t say much about RvP’s commitment or about AW’s strength in handling players.

I hate to think that teams are being picked on this basis.

Did RvP or his advisors say or imply that if he didn’t play he wouldn’t sign?! I know what my response to this would be!

  108. RvP haters…. what are you trying to do here Frank. You heard of a phrase sh** stirrer!!

Really cant understand your intentions on this blogg… u seem to thrive on creating confilcts, u a spud by any chance?

  109. I would have played RVP over Arshavin on Saturday. And I rate Arshavin and always did.

I might have considered dropping Walcott for Arshavin though.

But I won’t drop a player with a history of scoring for us against Chelsea, who can scrap in midfield, and is good in the air for a player (Lord Arsh) who isn’t good in the air, not yet used to the scrap that a a game against Chelsea is.

But of course it’s harder in hindsight to justify dropping Theo seeing as he scored….

  110. Alex Ice Cream

    jeffers,

That joke is about as good as your namesake was at Arsenal.

  111. Alex Ice Cream

Find this RvP stuff hard to believe though.

  112. Frank

If you know arsenal bloggers specialize in negatvity… why on earth would you be so excited to uncover and tell to the world this piece of speculation brought about by such a reliable source!! ur a complete kno*

  113. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

Have you ever been called a spud before? Ouch.

If you want to call people names then you should take some lessons from Chris.

  114. AIC

Whilst I have no doubt that many would gladly see RvP ascend to the throne so that he can wave his sceptre, perchance you meant “specter”.

Mind you, a few sphincters will tighten if player power has got that out of hand.

    YW

  115. i’d really like to stop any negative conotations towards RVP with regards to this. it was not the context at all. let me state clearly this was not a ”play me or else” situation, it was more the perception of one insider as to the reasons for the managers choice of one player over another.

apologies for my naievety with regards to some peoples reading of this, it wasn’t my intention. i should have thought this through first.

  116. Matty

everyone knows RvP is in contract talks, they were stopped by Wenger so we could focus on the football. Why on earth would Steve Bould say maybe Wenger didnt pick him because of his contract negotations when they aint even in motion right now..

Also… Wenger isnt the type of person to dosclose why he didnt pick someone, everything is quite discrete. Like Matty said, its Steve Bould’s ‘perception’… that is the KEY WORD here

  117. …if you read AICs post at 1.09pm….there you have your villain….he could not hold back…becuase he is a puff…and he doesn’t really like RvP at all….

  118. AIC

    Is this true??

  119. I think something out of nothing is being made by the omission of RVP against Liverpool. It was clear that he was carrying a knock from the Chelsea game and he is being saved for the CL against Man U. IMO contract talks have nothing to do with the issue as that is not how Wenger operates.

  120. …it is OK, Matty….your secret is safe with us…I don’t suppose that anyone gives a monkeys…..and AIC has exposed himself….well done, Matty…I think you are a star….

….I am sure that SB is very loyal to RvP and the other players …he is a great coach…

….don’t worry CG will probably catch up a bit later…

  121. …frogman….RvP ws injured for the game against Liverpool…

  122. CG, I think you are reading Frank all wrong. The way I read it, he was challenging Matty to prove that there was substance to his claim. Once Matty said it, the information was already out there and without challenge it has already got someone on here ready to believe it might be true because it fits his view of the player concerned.

If SB said it, it was very irresponsible of him and could only be speculation on his part because he is not part of the first team set up and would not know the detail of why player X is chosen over player Y. Only Arsene Pat Rice or Boro Primorac would have that discussion about who to play and why and I believe they are too professional to make a decision on that basis.

Remember on the internet you can be whoever you want to be and claim to know whoever or whatever you want to. I have no way of knowing either way, so I tend to take most things I read from people I don’t know with a large pinch of salt.

  123. I cant imagine there being too many RvP haters… hes one of our more exciting creative players, has a great winning attitude, and has technique which is up there with the best in the world. When hes on form he is unstoppable… look back to last season b4 he got injured, his scoring record was amazing and even this season he was in fine form and stayed injury free. We aint talking about tap-ins with this guy, he makes his own goals. Be it from a freekick, mid air volley, or a delightful curler.

We have RvP and i hope we keep him.

  124. Passenal

I think Frank is a complete twat and has a big mouth.

  125. …a star Passenal…a star…

  126. Frank; That is what I was refering to, I said he was carrying a knock from the Chelsea game and was being saved for the CL against Man U.

Does anyone have any news on Djourou and Clichy and has it been confirmed that Gallas is out for the rest of the season?

  127. …I agree with CG @ 1.25…and @1.29?…probably right, CG…cheer up…

  128. Thanks for your post clarifying the point at 1.14 p.m. Matty, that is what I thought.

  129. Personally we need a fully fit RVP back in the team. On his day, there are not many better players around. Arsenal do not want to loose him. I just do not understand why he always gets injured when on International duty?

  130. …quite right, frogman…it seems that gallas is gone for the season….there are rumours about Clichy’s back…might be out for the season…Djourou is expected back but I don’t know when…

  131. Better to look forward than back, why ponder previous events… we should all be talking about the prospect of the Man U semi final and Boro on Sunday

  132. …If you compare RvP with Ade, frogman…just for the purposes of the injury thing…..RvP throws himslf into tackles and does everything with real intensity…he is quite a physical player….physical players get hurt…

  133. Matty, best thing for you now is to just stop fueling the fire. This can get out of hand quickly.

Fantastic match last night, gutted we didn’t win but when your back 4 has one who is weak from sickness and two second choice starters and a second choice keeper the margin for error is minimal. Mistakes will be punished against the likes of Liverpool. I was disappointed with the last goal by ‘Pool as on the Sky TV highlights it looked like there were more red shirts than yellow in our box, and this in stoppage time when we were ahead.

As for Arshavin, what can you say. He is fantastic! Let’s get some rest for the ‘borough game coming up and then hit the mancs with all guns blazing next week.

    COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!

  134. Frank; I think that loosing Gallas is the biggest blow of all. Since he gave up the Captains armband I believe he became a better player for Arsenal and inspite of the so called issues between him and Toure, they developed a solid defensive partnership.

  135. CG there are several people on here even today who are suggesting we sell RVP and suggesting that now we have AA we don’t need him, and if it wasn’t for him AA would have played and won us the game all by himself and blah, blah, blah. We also have the hack dwarf with his campaign against RVP and there are plenty of people who are influenced by his bile. A lot of people seem to have very short memories. A player only has to miss a couple of games or have an off game and they seem to forget all that went before. Both RVP and Cesc have been recent victims of this.

  136. oh, and Yogi, I believe that Toure may finally have his malaria under control. Didn’t he pick that up in the close season? It’s not a laughing matter and can really have an impact on someone, especially a top athlete.

  137. Frank; True comment, as you say, RVP is more physically involved.

  138. Gris Gris : agreed.

  139. ….Middlesboro could be tricky with the Mancs game following shortly after…we don’t want key players to be injured…and lord help us if a defender gets injured…Middlesboro need the points so we cannot expect an easy ride…particularly at the back….we need to press them and keep them in their half…

  140. in Clichy’s case it was said:

He is half way through his 2 and a half week injury lay off, then he will go into recover or something like that.

So they didnt put a time on him, but his 2 and a half week is nearly up i think. Anyway Gibbs looks capable and is proving to be another English revelation. Its just having Silvestre and Gibbs at the back in that area which makes us seem alot more vulnerable. Having inexperience next to Silvestre isnt very reassuring

  141. Alex Ice Cream

    Chris,

Is what true? That I hate RvP. Absolutely not!

Frank, I am trying to make things a bit less unpleasant betwen us. Is there any point in me trying to do this. Please don’t spread lies about me.

I would tell any player who said play me or I won’t sign a new deal to f*** off.

  142. Alex Ice Cream

    Yogi,

    Yes. Thanks for the correction!

  143. Passenal, You are right, it is crazy that people would even think about getting rid of RVP. He is the one player who can create some magic out of nothing. Comparrisons of him and AA should not be made as they have totally different styles of playering.

  144. I agree Frank, Middlesborough could be tricky, especially if the referee allows their offside goals to stand whilst ruling out our perfectly legitimate ones!

  145. …I agree with frogman @1.37pm…though a fit Djourou could inspire a lot of confidence….Kolo is back to his best…hopefully Bacary will be fitter on Sunday…Kieran just has to keep gaining that experience..game after game…he is going to be a great, great left back one day…

…4 goals from AA in the first half should take the pressure off…

  146. Passenal

Its just rediculous how we are always complaining we need players etc… now we have a wealth of fantastic attacking players, what is the purpose of speculating about our own players futures. It just dont make sense, this summer would be great if there wasn’t any transfer activity and we started the season over in August with all our squad fit and injury free.

I think alot of our fans get convinced in some way by the media crap that floats around from other various turd camps like Barca and Madrid.. and actually start believing and speculation that our own players will leave. In the end it creates an awful lot of doubts about that player, this cannot help at all our perfomance on the pitch.

  147. AIC; In defense of RVP there is no proof that anything like that was ever said!

  148. ….yep…we should have won 6-4 last night, Passenal…can you imagine that…6-4….wow….

  149. AIC

that is very true, i dont think Wenger would tolerate a player demanding to play him.. if that is the case with RvP.. he would have been benched and sold in the summer. Attitude is no.1 attribute that Wenger looks for in his players

  150. IMO I don’t think Sagna was fully recovered from his illness and was rushed back into the Liverpool game. Depending on the type of virus he had, I am sure that his body was physically drained.

  151. CG: Again, no proof that anything like that was ever said.

  152. Frank and AIC will you two just get together and have a shag?

Jesus it is so obvious you love each other if were in the playground you would be pulling each other hair and running off.

Seriously get it out of your systems so we dont have to listen to it any more.

  153. frogman

Sagna did not look like himself, just wonder if it would have been better to play Eboue??

  154. CG: To be honest I was surprised that Sagna played I had expected to see Eboue start.

  155. …you can hear the conversation, drew10?….how long have you been able…sorry do you believe that you have been able to do that?…

  156. CG, I wonder whether this constant fear that our players are about to leave is behind this negative attitude to the team? It’s like fans are afraid to get invested in a player in case he leaves and they’ll be devastated. The reality is that nothing lasts forever, so why not just enjoy them and appreciate what we have while we have it. Isn’t the fact that their names are constantly linked with top teams an indication of their quality? Why can we not appreciate that and show them some love so that they will want to stay? Look at how Liverpool support their team compared to the rubbish support we mostly get at the Emirates? If I was a player, I might look at things like that and wonder…

  157. “….yep…we should have won 6-4 last night, Passenal…can you imagine that…6-4….wow….”

Yes Frank, tiny margins once again. I knew that Fabregas goal was onside as soon as they failed to show the replay. Funny that, because had the boot been on the other foot, we would have seen it from every conceivable angle!

  158. Frank, that makes even less sense than normal!

  159. Passenal,
When I spoke of statistics earlier, I wasn’t speaking only of Arsenal players, but of all players.

Sometimes I get the impression you’re telling me off. :(

  160. http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arshavin-i-need-some-more-time-to-settle

Arshavin’s comments on the game. At least our players recognise that football is a team game even if some of our fans don’t!

  161. Poliziano, I would never tell you off! Sorry if I gave that impression – I’ll have to go back and read what I posted again!

  162. On a seperate note….good luck to the youth team tonight against Manchester City.

  163. P.S. Poliziano, I assumed you were just talking about Arsenal, but I guess the same is true of all teams trying to win the ball back when they lose it in the attacking part of the pitch.

  164. “On a seperate note….good luck to the youth team tonight against Manchester City.”

I tried to introduce that topic earlier frogman, but I thought no one was interested! I hope they do well as they have been playing well all season and it would be a shame not to get to the final. Ironically they will probably face Liverpool who are 3 – 0 up against Birmingham in the other semi-final.

  165. AIC,
There’s no question in my mind that you are trying to wind people up by saying again and again that Arshavin is our best player. Why do it?

  166. Passenal; Sorry, I must have missed your earlier post. It would be great to see them get into the final.

  167. Thanks for the Fabi interview shout Passenal he seems really distaught over the last week’s game still…..poor guy…..still while he was been Al replacement in the CL and league his played all the domestic cup games in goal and was one of the primary reason we reached the semis…..he does however have eyelashes that no amount of mascara could replicate….:-D

I have been trying to keep up with the youth team and have been impressed that the culture of football that Wenger has tried to imprint throughout this club has seen success with the young guns doing well both in their league and the youth cup…. does anyone know if the game live on Arsenalonline??

  168. Looking forward to seeing our CM in waiting – Coquelin and Frimpong – tonight. Anyone know if Wilshere is playing?

  169. Matty might be able to tell you.

  170. Maria there is audio commentary on ATVO tonight and Big Johan, I read somewhere that Wilshere is recovering from an ankle injury so his participation is not certain.

  171. Sorry, that did come off very nicely. It wasn’t a dig.

  172. OfUS as my commander-in-chief i demand a cease on all attacks on Matty…..and to my health advisor thanks and get well soon….

  173. I’ll see if I can spot Matty sitting near SB at the match. Matty, is your avatar a good likeness?!

  174. …..Matty is a star….

  175. @Matt – disappointed you have changed your avatar, bro ~

Keeley (?) scores just as often, methinks

    @Frank – “read Sheridan’s plays” – a laugh aloud one..

  176. It’l be on Arsenal TV on Sky, Maria, at least, these matches usually are.

  177. I think you are confusing Matt with Matty, Pb.

  178. CB – Have got ATVO – but never seem able to get games on it ~ why not ??

Liverpool please win the PL ~ what a difference reading another blog makes..(and credit to Ben).

  179. Could be Consols..
A green cartoonish character and – dammit what’s her name – look alike to us old folks…

  180. Of course that was meant to be, “didn’t come off very nicely”

I was trying to be affable!

I think PB misses the glamour girl, CB.

  181. ……….what PB??? and heres me thinking you were the only young guy on ACLF……to think all this time you were posting from you nursing home….eeeeewww……

  182. They let me out now and again, M. To buy a new tartan blanket for these cold cold days..

  183. Pb is in his forties Maria. If you want a mature man, go for the real thing.

In your forties you think you still have the body of a 20 year old and have gained wisdom.

When you reach 50, you know that you do not have the body of a 20 year old and actually attain the wisdom that comes with that realisation.

    Plus your muscles harden up.

No Pb. No ATVO but the Arsenal TV channel is on Sky every evening and carry Reserve team matches live. I thought the Youth Cup was on too but I can’t see it anywhere.

  184. re: Arsha –
There seem to be two chants being promulgated; the chorus of “Rasputin” by that groovy band, Boney M – and Kalinka (t.a.t.u do a good version) ~ but have only heard “ARSHAVIN!!” so far.. anyone who can get to games regularly know ?

btw: finally got some ££’s, so shall be at next game.. atlast!!

  185. No, Consolsbob, your arteries harden up.

  186. Thanks Consols –
Shall donate to Age Concern..as soon as am old enough to forget to do so..

Has this ANYTHING to do with the Arsenal ??

  187. PZ -
How do you hide those varicose veins ?
Have to go to Spain soon.. advice needed.

  188. Do they discriminate against the varicose-veined in Spain?

  189. ……Ofcause Pz but like all good English ex-pats Pb will show them the light……

  190. …depends where they are, Pz..

  191. …strictly speaking haemorrhoids are varocise veins….easy to get them through customs though….

  192. …varicose…

  193. Well, which part of Spain are you visiting?

  194. Aclefers, question:

Would you be confident with Silvestre at full back. If like me you think he’s a risk in defence, where is he more a risk. Centre back or full back?

  195. …varocise is a method of reducing piles with exercise….you can go to varocise classes….

  196. I’d prefer not to think about it, Ole.

  197. Alas, the ghastly part…Gran Canaria. But a free apartment and a woman of un-natural beauty beckon..
    It’s tough, going on holiday.

~~ Loved AW’s response in the post-match interview btw, when he was asked about Cesc and the journo reeled off a list of names…straight back –
“Well, I don’t know about your team, but it has seven forwards..”
Man, you have to love that man!

  198. I would guess he’s better at centre back, but that doesn’t really answer your question.

  199. …..depends who we are playing, OG….but I think the key is for Kolo and Sylvestre to develop a better understanding……

  200. Have yet to have piles yet Frank… but can claim gout. That’s quite rare these days for young veggies like myself..

  201. You perhaps ought not to tell us whether your woman’s beauty is natural or unnatural.

  202. It’s amazing that Wenger came under serious scrutiny earlier in the season for playing an unbalanced team that was too offensive. Now he’s getting slated for trying to balance the team.

Arsenal fans can be funny sometimes.

  203. OG;

I really don’t want imagine him facing Ronaldo next week…in recent years i feel Sagna, Eboue and Clichy have played well up against him but MS….it may well be a repeat of the FA Cup last year when Nani tormented Hoyte…. i am praying young Gibbs stays fit….

  204. I don’t have piles either Pb….gout or pseudo-gout?…

  205. What’s the most games Silvestre has played for us in succession so far?

  206. ….Pz “your woman”……???

  207. Frank,

I agree that understanding is important. But we don’t have time. The game against Man Poo is one week from today!

  208. Not you, Maria.

Silvestre played in our match against united earlier in the season, didn’t he? He played well, so far as I remember. I think he has it in him to give a reasonable performance.

  209. Maria,

I agree with you, I have been very impressed by young Gibbs, he’s got determination and speed. I just hope that Djourou is back for Manu, then I think we’ll be alright.

  210. Statistics
    Key:
    Shots on T Liv 14 Ars 4
    Shots off T Liv 9 Ars 4
    Corners Liv 12 Ars 0
    Tackles Liv 21 Ars 34
    Possession Liv 54% Ars 46%
On those figures plus fatigue from Saturday, Liv position in the league pushing for top, no game for a week from Liv, home game, injuries to defence and strikers then you would expect a comfortable win to Liv (and when it was 2-1 to Liv half way through 2nd period I expected that). So 4-4 is a tremendous result.

    Summary
Arshavin is brilliant and yes he puts in many tackles (watch him closely in a game and you will see). Excellent game from Nasri. If you complain about Denilson making too many simple passes, watch Song and Masch. Song has more presence and hoofs the ball away (not always successfully). Denilson usually has more composure on the ball and works better as a link, also usually puts in more tackles and intercepts (although past 2 games have been poor by his standards he is still no 1 in tackles and intercepts among the top 4). Agree that Song is playing better recently but these are all very different players (Den, Song, Diaby, Nasri, Cesc, etc) so it depends on the balance AW wants to play.

Yes, Arshavin ranks high in the CL stats (no. 1 for assist attempts, no 11 for tackling) even though he only played 5 games!

  211. Pseudo-gout, Frank ? i wish!! It is a nasty thing, and starts in the toes, usually. Like being hit with a spiked baseball-bat ~ usually at 3am.
It’s all down to Japanese beer, apparently.

Silvestre can be made to look slow, but i rather like him. Oh, and “Young Gibbs” – goal-line clearances at the top of his CV.

  212. …jbh….you really dont have to put Song down to explain Denilson’s worth….it speaks for itself….

  213. ….good habit i say…..

  214. …pseudo-gout has almost the same symptoms, PB…different crystals….if you have gout…then you know the remedy…no alcohol….

  215. PZ –
Have no idea! We have yet to meet. She wants to leave her husband first…
It’s the morality that is so attractive; am not interested in her long blonde hair or golden tan. Some credit please!

  216. Alex Ice Cream

    Pz,

I say that AA is our best player as I believe it to be true, epecially on current form.

Why does it wind you up that I have an opinion on who our best player is?

  217. Interesting statistics. They show that Denilson’s contribution was about average for the game. That just shows how much is expected of him.

  218. I don’t think he was Maria, I think he’s pointing that out to those who slate Denilson by over-praising Song.

Ole, I know you hate Silvestre, but what other choice does Arsene have supposing Djourou doesn’t come back? Let it go before you attract what you fear the most. As someone pointed out he played well against Man U at the Emirates and he might just be highly motivated for those games.

  219. I do think Silvestre is getting better with more playing time, but those back passes give me the jitters!

  220. …I think that Kolo and Sylvestre will get better s the latter’s match fitness improves…don’t worry about the Mancs next week…we can do it…

  221. Has Silvestre scored an own goal with a back pass before?

  222. ……..he could well be getting better Clee but his face just doesn’t agree with me…..

  223. …oh f*cking grow up, AIC…’best’ player indeed….it is supposed to be a team game…if you were manager you would have had the rest of the f*cking squad walk out after the first f*cking game…

  224. Passenal,

Alex Song. Why can’t we play Alex Song in there? What’s the risk? He’ll gift the opposition 3 goals in 2 games?

  225. AIC,
I don’t mind anyone having a favourite player. Of course not. I don’t have one myself, but I’m sure many people do. Most, though, don’t feel the need to tell us who it is quite so often as you.

  226. Alex Song has not played there this season so he will not have the understanding with Kolo. That also takes Song out of midfield where he has been playing effectively at a time when Denilson looks like he might be running out of steam. That would be my theory. But I guess we’ll see what the manager does as he was talking about the fatigue amongst the defenders so you might get your wish.

  227. haha Maria, maybe that coz you’ve seen it too many times in a Manc shirt…. But if faces are required would you be happy with Ribery in a Arsenal shirt?

  228. Ey yup chucks,

Does anyone know if the Youth Team game is on tv tonight?

I just flicked through the Arsenal TV listings and it doesn’t appear to be there.

  229. Maria –
Second time i’ve laughed on here today: “His face doesn’t agree with me”. Witty, and devastating…class!

  230. Hi – new here..

what a game, shame we are so poor in the defending, silvestre seems past it – we have to get better defender in the summer – hopefully hangeland from fulham or/and lescott if gallas leaves

also bentner and denilson look over paid and over rated, song is getting stronger and stronger. one ch and hm should be enough for next season and get rid of the players who are not good enough

  231. ML – its on afc online only

  232. Hi scooby11,

What about scooby doo at centre back and donald duck in goal ?

  233. Alex Ice Cream

    Maria,

How is jhb putting down Song to give worth to Denilson?

  234. AIC – i just read your comment on AA being th best player, I can understand why you think that – he has come into this side and done what many before him have taken a season to do. He showed already what a quality player he is – also, at the same time many other players are having a troubled time, if i had to chose one player right now, i too would go for him – he looked in a class on his own last night

  235. Passenal,

Fair enough. But Song is still an option. Not the best option but an option.

Do you think Silvestre should be ahead of Gibbs for left back once Johann comes back from injury?

  236. they already are i think muppet

  237. ……i really do love most of the players that wear the red and white shirt but i have hated that biscuit face for far longer than i care to remember and don’t forget he had the cheek to call the Mancs ‘best in the biz’ in his very first interview……

  238. Alex Ice Cream

Its Frank’s communist world where everyone is equal and there are no winners and no losers. Everyone wins the Prem and CL and everyone loses them.

Of course its a team game but some players are better than others. This is so obvious it’s funny.

You do make me laugh Frank, keep it up.

    Hahahaha!

  239. Scrappy-Doo could be the combative midfielder we’ve been looking for.

  240. Is this the same woman who you were going to go on holiday last time Pb? Sounds like it to me. Met her on the net didn’t you? Tell me, how old was the picture of you that she has seen?

jbh. Thanks for the stats. Looks like the ‘pool were not so much better than us after all. Nor did Denilson have the shocker that has been reported.

  241. Hi muppet, what do you think is wrong with cesc right now, his form has really dipped

  242. Passenal, AIC,

“If you complain about Denilson making too many simple passes, watch Song and Masch. Song has more presence and hoofs the ball away (not always successfully). Denilson usually has more composure on the ball and works better as a link, also usually puts in more tackles and intercepts ”

I may have misunderstood his point but claiming that Song hoofs the ball followed by Denilson has more composure clearly was doing just that….

  243. I think he likes it at Arsenal Maria. I really believe that he is trying his best. A bit more fitness and more time on the pitch, not at LB Ole, and he’ll improve.

As it is he is the best we have. Experienced and whole hearted.

  244. Good to see Fabianski have a better time, a lot more confident, shame those in front of him didnt give a bit more

  245. Actually, hoofing the ball away can be a good thing at times – we should have done more of that at the back yesterday for example!

  246. Yeah – we could have snow white and the 7 drawfs on the bench, Scooby Doo and the Lion king in the midfield, Donald Duck along with minnie mouse and friends in defence, winnie the pooh left wing, goofy on the right wing and Beauty & The beast up front. Any takers ?

  247. Passenal – too right, if in doubt row Z and get composed

  248. I would have Eboue right and Sagna left if Clichy isn’t back. Eboue has played against Ronaldo before and kept him quiet and Sagna can play left back. I don’t think Gibbs is yet ready to face Ronaldo especially if he is not well protected by the left midfielder in front of him.

  249. ………Row Z never looked so attractive…..

  250. scooby11 – er.. nothing wrong with Cesc.

  251. muppet – are you taking the micky?

passenal -i agree, row Z is sometimes much better than pass pass lose the ball

  252. muppet – are you taking the micky?

passenal -i agree, row Z is sometimes much better than pass pass lose the ball

  253. row z is better than conceding a goal maria, big tony loved doing that as did keown

  254. row z is better than conceding a goal maria, big tony loved doing that as did keown

  255. does it always take a long time for comments to appear after pressing the send button – can anyone tell me please

  256. Actually, Micky seems to have been left out of the squad.

  257. Ole, sorry if I disgust you. 3rd is better than 4th, of course. I was just saying it was already very unlikely before last night. If we beat Chelski and Manure, and I hope to god we do, I still don’t think we’ll be 3rd.

The way this season started though, I am….relieved, to have 4th place sewn up. The media, lest we forget, spent half the season creaming themselves over us ending up 5th..I don’t remember them saying 4th ‘was Arsenals’ then.

  258. Poliziano, i take it you are now, i had been told it is friendly here..

  259. No scooby11, I haven’t taken Micky – he’s gone to Barca.

  260. maybe i should come back when there are some football bloggers rather than sarcastic pee taking people

  261. Enough with this fantasia football! It’s doing my head in.

  262. “does it always take a long time for comments to appear after pressing the send button – can anyone tell me please”

Not usually scooby, although it is unusual to get so many double posts.

  263. hehehe – an entertaining evening in store.. 2 years ago, CB ~ when i was still hitting the gym….:-)

  264. A young man in a hurry…. but he’ll turn out to be the Manager in the end, Scooby…

  265. When a comment is particularly good, the system delays displaying the comment in the hope of making the poster submit twice.

  266. “maybe i should come back when there are some football bloggers rather than sarcastic pee taking people”

You’ve missed all the football talk on the blog earlier – we’ve run out of steam now and are having a ‘humour’ break!

  267. passenal, thank you for that

  268. Does anyone know if we expect to get Senderos back in the summer?

The Italians are often labeled as being the best defenders in the world with the Italian teams being more defensive minded. I wonder if Wenger sent Senderos to Italy to get a bit of training so to speak.

As I’ve commented before I believe that Gallas will be gone in the summer. We need to buy a top class defender who is ready to go.

If we can do this and assuming that we can limit the number of serious injuries to something a little more manageable the PL will be ours.

  269. #Scooby-Dooby-Doo, Arsenal? We got some #work to do now.
#Scooby-Dooby-Doo, Arsenal? We need some #help from you now.
    #Come on Scooby-Doo, Arsenal.. pretending you #got a sliver
#But you’re not fooling me, cause I can see, the #way you shake and shiver.

#You know we got a mystery to solve, so Scooby #Doo be ready for your act.
    #Don’t hold back!
#And Scooby Doo if you come through you’re #gonna
    #have yourself a scooby snack!
    #That’s a fact!

    #Arsenal !

  270. …what a polite young fellow….no asbos for you hey scoobs….?

  271. I would like to see Captain Cavemen in the central defense, he would do wonders with that club of his!

    sorry OOU, couldnt resist!

    anyway, Good morning/Afternoon folks!

Watch the highlights again and I must say Arshavins 2nd and 4th goals are a work of art – great combination of composure, precision and power!

    WOW!

    Blessings!

  272. …I would love to see Phil Senderos succeed at Arsenal…really liked him….alas it looks like he is away….but you never know….he made one or two mistakes…but f*cking hell some right rotters do that and get great press especially if they are English….

  273. what is it with the fixation on “believing” Gallas is leaving in the summer? no disrespect but what is the point?

  274. What a game yesterday.AA is pure class, there is no denying that, thought Song had a very good 2nd half,Gibbs is going to be great someday,Denilson maybe needs a rest,Cecs not back too his best as yet. Considering the circumstances a draw at Anfield is a good result .

  275. The thing is Scooby, someone might always be taking the proverbial here. The knack is to know when.

  276. When Senderos is on form he is really good, hopefully he is learning to remain confident, even after making a mistake.

  277. Other key stats:
    Injuries in the 2nd half – 0
Time wasting in the 2nd half – 0
Subs Liv and Ars – 4 (=30sec per sub or 2 mins)
    Extra time – 5 mins
    Extra time played 6.5 mins
Liv goal – 3 mins in.

Maria – certainly not dissing Song. Both Song and Denilson are excellent players. Its just that they have very different playing styles. AW uses them appropriately. If you follow the games closely you will notice that AW has selected Den for all Prem league and all CL games. This is for a reason. He wants him to play a possession game keeping it simple getting it to the play makers and breaking up play with tackles, intercepts and pressing the midfield when not in possession. He is also expected to do that all over the pitch (why he covers more ground than any other). Song is used as a 5th defender or more classical defensive midfielder and is also doing very well.

I don’t think Denilson is tired. I think that other teams are waking up to the fact that greater pressure on Denilson and company further up the pitch can pay dividends. Also when he is kicked or fouled like most Sth Am players he goes down (why he is high in the Fouls won table). All the players are fighting for CL places and want to make the semi (and hopefully final). Tiredness doesn’t enter into it.

Will be interesting to see who plays next Weds (Song or Denilson). Maybe both?

  278. ………..I can imagine Senderos watching the game he most of felt for MS and Fabi………

  279. Can you remove the Liverpool goals from the highlights Paul N ?

  280. sorry muppet, yes it hurts to watch their goals, especially the first 2 for me!!!

  281. I watch Arshavin in amazement!!! what a player!!

  282. This guy is giving all of Arsenal’s goals to Pool errors, the third but I think we worked for the rest of our goals.

  283. Paulie Walnuts

    Exceptional match last night.

Arshavin didn`t track back & never won a thing in the air all night. On the plus side he tickled in a nice hat & scarf trick (what do you call 4 goals ?)

I thought Song played well again but Denilson seems to have `hit the wall` & needs a break.

Positives were Fabianski`s first half display & the away support.

I won`t mention some of the Keystone Kops defending.

  284. Interesting point about Denilson jbh – there could be something in that. Denilson certainly seemed uncomfortable with the pace of the game last night probably because it is a million miles away from the type of game you would get in Brazil. Even Cesc seemed not to have the time on the ball he usually has. Usually, even in high tempo games he seems to know where the ball is going before he receives it and seems to be able to make time for himself. Yesterday, the noise and the frenetic pace seemed to unsettle the players, but they did not completely crumble and that is important. I doubt Denilson will be dropped for the rest of the season, as he still has something to offer in the right games.

  285. …I felt that if the supporters had stuck by Phil Senderos he might have been around now…Arsenal supporters are quite Defargian…have a tendency to bay and boo at players they disrespect….even worse give em the silent treatment….get home …have a beer…burp…fart… and give em a real tabloid hammering on the Arsenal blogs….maybe burp, fart again and do a phone-in or two….that’ll show the f*cker..

….but who knows he might have gotten himself injured as well…. we will never know….

….one of his great attributes was understanding the game….a real thinker on the pitch…I like those sorts of players….they mature much more slowly…and I still think that great defenders mature with age….positional sense is so important in defence….so is discipline….and total, total understanding of your fellow defenders….I can’t help thinking that if he goes he will be one of the few we look wistfully at in seasons to come and think….f*ck we let a real diamond go there…

  286. …..Franky many thought he could be a future captain of the team…well respected by the staff…on friendly terms with most of the players in the squad and most importantly he really seemed to love Arsenal the club not the team….someone once described him as young Arsene Wenger….i can’t think of a bigger compliment ….

  287. Paul N u need 2 put people under pressure 4 them to make mistakes for that give Arsenal players credit for all our goals .

  288. …excellent, Maria…maybe he will be back one day in a different capacity…

….why do we treat our players so badly as supporters….?….those Liverpool supporters last night were absolutely massive….the tension must have been unbelievable…games like that must bind our players together surely….real heroes…

  289. Arshavin the Goal Assassin…

Goals are scored because someone has to make an error somewhere, and in football the list of errors leading to a goal is a very long list that can start with the striker not closing the defender at the other end.

Our goals were much more better than theirs, they might appear as individual efforts because they were all scored by the same player, but they’re not.

First goal was a well worked out goal.

I disagree listing Arshavin’s 2nd goal as just an error by Arbeloa, but it was Arshavin’s smart quick mind to sneak on Arbeloa and dispossess him of the ball. He did that against Wigan when he sneaked behind the defender for the third goal.

3rd goal was a good cross by Nasri, and the defender missed it up, the Goal Assassin was right there at the right time…and did the right thing, shoot.

the 4th was from a counter-attack book of records goal (Author: Arsenal football club).
    ===

I think Sagna had the worst game in an Arsenal shirt, poor guy…maybe he needed another game to rest.
    ===

Song was running like a well tuned engine…I’m loving this little Rasta.
    ===

Good result, we do have a say in who will win the title…I think the other two are scared.

  290. …but what must their supporters have done for them….superhuman stamina is what it did….mind you the adrenaline rush blinded their players…they committed suicide league-wise….what a spectacle…what an event…we won’t see a game like that in a goodwhile…well until next week anyway…

  291. …I really do agree on this one F recently watched him playing for the Swiss….it reminded me of why i really love him…well before the DD fiasco ofcause after that he was dead to me….maybe we can sell him to Barca……..

  292. Frank,

    Agree on the sendros comment.

And umm…don’t really have anything to add, you didn’t leave anything.

This whole rhetoric of buying hangeland(?), that all D&G merchants keep putting out. I’ve never seen him play. Anyone know how good is he? Is he the next Maldini? Why is he such a big arsenal fan favourite?? And who the f*** is Zapata from Udinese or Udinese from Zapata??!?! how good is he??

Why exactly are these 2 players alone, being courted around by the D&G merchants??

  293. ………….JW is in the team……………

  294. is it safe for me to come back yet ?

  295. Muppet @ 4:45. – Scooby knows diddly. LOL!

All those fantastic new defenders for Arsenal, who happen to be currently contracted to other teams. Scooby simply needs to return to his playstation.
If is not even May and the young uns are buying and selling players for their fantasy league. By refusing to humour them, they complain that we are intolerant on this blog. Damn right – we are intolerant of this kind of rubbish!

  296. Matty,

Lol…..Depends on what other news you’ve brought us?:)

  297. What did you do?

  298. ………Sure Matty, i have already ruled on the issue and there will be no enforced exiling by the ACLF court today………

  299. if it is, i’d like to vote for Phil S to come back too.

Like Nick B being the best 4th choice centre forward in the EPL, Phil would be the best 4th choice CB in the EPL.

  300. …why was PS dead to you after the Drogba episode, Maria?…

…now Paolo Maldini, Ateeb….what a player….what a cultured player….now Paolo Maldini is all about positional sense…economy of movement….total understanding….locks in to his fellow defenders game….any young defender must watch videos of this man playing…what a defender…

…lets do some research…not just listening what the know alls say…lets look at some central defenders play…and let us find the ones with a brain….they could be Arsenal players…and lets look in our own squad and the youngsters teams first….and then work outwards until at the end of the season when we have done our research and we can draw our conclusions…

  301. phew – thanks Maria……

Ateeb. I’m thinking before typing from now on !

  302. ….Matty, you are a star….

  303. Frank I agree re Senderos – I would like him back too, but I wonder if the experience he had in his last season with Arsenal has put him off coming back? I think Arsene would like him back, which is probably why he only bought a stop-gap player like Silvestre rather than a longer term solution. I think the loan was a way of giving him time to re-group and get over the negative experiences in the hope that he would learn something and regain his confidence. It’s a shame he has not featured more often for Milan this season as that would have been good for his development.

  304. ………..just a cheeky jab @ the D&G fans Franky it goes along those lines does’nt it… a players s*hit lets sell him to AC milan, Madrid,Juventus etc since we all know they love those type of players……Case in point; Adebayor….agreed on Maldini lets hope Sendy is picking up insightful tips from the AC defence while his there…..any ideas why they took him on??

  305. Frank,

One of the best defenders over the last decades. A role model for other players. Heard he donates a hefty amount of his salary to charities. A very down to earth man. Another one I really enjoyed watching was Pirlo. But since last year, he’s been struggling bad. Not the same player as he was.

With regards to Hangelaand and Zapatta, I wasn’t suggesting that we need any reinforcements. I’d be more than happy if Arsenal was a transfer free zone this summers. It’s just that why the h**** are these 2 players being courted around? There could be a dozen other defenders and midfielders. But who suggested these two orignially, and the sheeps followed. Been since january that you go over to different sites and these two are being mentioned as the ones we absolutely need or else the world will fall apart next season.

  306. Come back Senderos!

  307. Dont be so stupid Frank do you really think he would loan out a player who he rated was good enough to play in the frist team now.

Arsene has not forgiven him for that performance in the CL at Anfield last season.

But that does not excuse Wenger buying that usless pile of shite Silvestre

  308. “…now Paolo Maldini, Ateeb….what a player….what a cultured player….now Paolo Maldini is all about positional sense…economy of movement….total understanding….locks in to his fellow defenders game….any young defender must watch videos of this man playing…what a defender…”

Totally love that guy – what a fantastic player! Hopefully Philippe would have learned a lot from him and want to come back to prove himself.

  309. Please, paul, tell me you’re joking. Please!

  310. Paul,

“Arsene has not forgiven him for that performance in the CL at Anfield last season”

LOL. Its absolutely hilarious how arm chair managers like you, are also very good mind readers.

  311. paul, how can you be so sure? What Arsene said after that game was that he really rated Philippe as a defender but maybe he needed more time. This is pure speculation on my part, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he asked to leave because he was so devastated after that game, but Arsene arranged the loan to give him time to clear his head and re-group in the hope that he would want to come back and prove his doubters wrong.

  312. ……….the game is on ArsenalOnline………

  313. I watched Hangeland closely in a couple of F.A. Cup matches this season. If I knew anything about defending, I’d be able to say if he is good or not. The main thing I noticed is that he is very big. I can’t imagine him being outmuscled. He seemed awkward on the ball. Very different from Toure or Gallas.

  314. The idea of Wenger holding a grudge against Senderos is risible.

Passenal is right. Senderos said he was devastated by that match, and that he blamed himself. It’s easy to assume such a statement is just words. Such devastation is often forgotten very quickly. In the case of Senderos, though, I believe it is true, and I suspect he needed a change of circumstances to regain his composure.

  315. Ateeb, Hangeland is big and ugly, which seem to be the main attributes for a CB in the eyes of the D&G merchants!

  316. Poliziano,

Maybe thats the reason why he’s a fan favourite. Because he’s BIG, and you know how our defenders are always outmuscled by the likes of Drogba and company. The way we play we don’t need big defenders, we need the pacier ones with good technique. Someone good in the air, though would be a plus.

  317. Reference the Senderos discussion. IMO he was a better defender than most give him credit for. He was a solid header of the ball and a good tackler. What made him look bad was that he is slow and does not possess the technical skill to dribble out of trouble. He is an old fashioned defender with plain basic defending skills, that does not mean he is a bad defender he merely needed to play to his strengths.
Additionally to call Silvestre a useless pile of shite is just stupid. He is a solid experienced defender and was unlucky enough to come up against two very fast and very inform strikers in the past three games and he came in after a long lay off and was lacking match fitness. He was never bought to be a starting regular defender, he was bought as an experienced squad player to provide back up when required.

  318. What does it say about our defence when Flapianski is our second best player at Anfield and still let in 4.

I am a big Sagna fan but his form has dropped considerably this season cant explain why.

Toure hasnt been the same player since the ANC.

Silvestre-what made Wenger buy him.He was injury prone last season and has been injury prone at Arsenal. Now he is playing in the games that matter. The signing of Silvestre may turn out to be a bigger miistake than Arshavingate at Wembley. Is he a Fergie spy?

    God we miss Gallas

  319. Djourou is the man if you want someone big and powerful in the air.
I think maybe he just needs to get a bit nastier, in the good football sense of the word, if you know what i mean.

  320. correction….three strikers in the past two games

  321. Man C just scored……….

  322. “Ateeb, Hangeland is big and ugly, which seem to be the main attributes for a CB in the eyes of the D&G merchants”

I am not surprised at all. Another fan favourite was Micah Richards, whose completely gone off the radar since his awful performances this season. It’s ridiculous that these very same fans who were calling for Richards are now supporting hangeland, and Chilieani. Will they ever learn? Or maybe they think it’s really simple to spot talent, analyse who we need, and than choose from a list of options. And here we have the crazy Arsene spending millions on a scouting network. All you need is to Google.

  323. Sagna’s been great this season. He was just off form yesterday.

  324. ^^^^^^^^……….Scrap that………..^^^^^^^^^

  325. Paul. You are missing the point…it says nothing about our defense. Sagna was rushed back in after a virus, I am sure his body was drained and he was not fully fit. Eboue may have been the better choice. In addition we are missing two injured CBs a LB and a starting keeper. I think you are just looking to be negative.

  326. Richards and Hangeland are both exceptionally powerful players, but otherwise as different as can be.

  327. Are you sure Maria, I thought kick off was 7.00 pm?

  328. ‘Toure hasnt been the same player since the ANC’

……..That is such a LAZY comment..why not just give us a link directly to the Sun…….

  329. Maria, how can that be, they have not kicked off yet. I am on setanta Arsenal TV:

  330. Toure and Gallas formed a very strong partnership and Toure is on form!!!

  331. I agree with most, Sendy was sent on loan to give him some culturing, playing time, a break from idiotic “fan” support typified by…well, you know who they are, and to learn from the best. He’s in a squad with Maldini (legend) and Nesta (nearly legend). I expect him back at Arsenal much improved. Playing time aside just practicing with the AC Milan squad would be enough for most. Plus I saw Sendy score a goal a few weeks ago! Nice header!

  332. ….well I was kind of working Phil into the same conversation with Paolo…..can you think of a better teacher? …especially of the ‘art’ of defence….Phil has got a brain…so has AW….so has Paolo…I wonder…

…no what as well….AC Milan…..pure class….people said don’t try to play football against Arsenal if you do they will murder you…get into and stop them playing….

…nope said AC Milan…if they can play football then so will we…and they did…and we murdered them…but they left with the utmost respect…..and that is very, very important…

….that is the culture that Phil has joined….what a clever boy

  333. Are you sure Maria, I thought kick off was 7.00 pm?

    P….I was watching the highlights…..

  334. Ateed

Arnchair manager am i .I was Anfield last night were you.Tosser

If Wenger really rated Senderos he would not be warming the bench in Milan.Wenger is a great manager dont you think Senderos would still be here,C”mon

Djourou is much better than him,We need a physical presence in the back four whigh we havent had since Sol left.

  335. Which team were you managing, paul?

  336. Bit much not having the youth semi on TV. Last nights game is replayed on ArsenalTV later.

  337. …I am not comparing Arsenal players…don’t like doing that…Djourou is already in the team and is second to KT/WG….we all know that….I was talking about one of our other defenders who is at this moment on a very exciting adventure….he may well leave for good…but AC Milan is a very classy dustbin to be thrown into…

  338. Senderos is not warming the bench at Milan, so far he played the 90 minutes in the last 5 or 6 games?

  339. LOL Poliziano. Great response. Paul, props for making it to a game that I was 3000 miles away from. I’m so glad you seem to be Wenger’s inner muse. Next time preface your opinions with statements like “I think” or “in my opinion” rather than attempting to convince us of your inside knowledge.

In my opinion if Wenger didn’t rate Senderos he would have sold him rather than sent him out on loan.

  340. G4E you look different every day.

  341. Did you watch any of his matches, G4E?

  342. “AC Milan is a very classy dustbin to be thrown into…” Frank you make a good point there. I think if it was a case that Wenger did not rate him then he would have sold him and not loaned him out. Senderos’s style of play is well suited to the Italian game and in Milan he certainly has some seasoned pro’s to learn from. I am sure that Wenger is closely monitoring the situation.

  343. I know Steve, I have to rotate my squad :) Does any one know who’s in that picture?

I did Poliziano and I think he is doing much better.

I have to be honest and say Flamini looked very good in the last game too…but who cares about Flamini? :)

  344. GrisGris, I was not stealing your line about Senderos being loaned out. Just coincidence we both said the same thing.

  345. Very funny Polziano

Why is it when someone gives a different opinion that get a cheap jibe theown back at them.

I love our club but if i see something wrong like the absence of Arshavin at wembley and the signing of Silvestre am i supposed to shut up.I will be at OT next week but if Silvestre is playing i will be Kacking myself for the 90mins

  346. That’s all G4E and I ever get to watch as Fox Soccer Channel carries 60% Serie A, 30% Premier League, 9% Argentinian League, and 1% other.

  347. Paul,

“Arnchair manager am i .I was Anfield last night were you.Tosser”

    Talk like Yoda do we?

Right so basically just because you were at the game you have better knowledge of football and our club. Good logic.

“If Wenger really rated Senderos he would not be warming the bench in Milan”

Wenger really rated Flamini and Hleb too. But………

The only thing puts into doubt Sendro’s return is that Milan I suppose have the option to buy him for around 8-9m. Correct me if I’m wrong.

  348. no worries Frogman, I’m sure we’re not the first to have that opinion either.

  349. Did you know you may have Setanta Gris Gris?

  350. Is it that any player that goes on loan is a player that Wenger doesnt rate? would Song fall into that category?

  351. …paul, son…ahh forget it…

  352. Djourou, Vela and Bendtner have also gone on loan, that does not mean they are not rated by Arsene too?

  353. I’ve checked G4E but comcast doesn’t seem to carry it. I’ll check again though, it would be so nice! Although I did have a good internet feed for the FA cup game. It was in Russian monotone so it sounded like I was watching a documentary. Quite humorous, actually.

  354. Its worth reviewing your comment before clicking on the submit button, i think.

  355. Oh I have Cox not Comcast Gris Gris…maybe this is why.

I didn’t even know I had Setanta until the FA Semi :)

  356. ………..Arsenal SCORE………..

  357. 3-1….Insider 1 minute…..

  358. Paul. What are the facts that you are using to say that Silvestre’s signing was wrong? I said earlier that he was not bought to be a starting defender. He was bought as an experienced squad player to fill in when required. He came on a “free” so how can you justify him as a bad signing?

  359. GrisGris. I own a home in Florida (go there three months out of the year) You can subscibe via the cable company for Setanta sports and the FOX channel has an English PL station that shows all the English games.

  360. Alex Ice Cream

Senderos was awesome in 2005-6. He made his CL debut v Bayern Munich in 05 and was the best player on the pitch IMO. Big Phil and Kolo kept a club record 13 consecutive clean sheets in 05 and 10 consecutive clean sheets in the CL in 06, also a record. Phil kept Campbell out of the 05 FA Cup final and along with Mad Jens was the main reason we won.

He did struggle from 06 onwards though after the injury in the world cup and Drogba, and his development went into reverse. The 05-06 Phil was better than last season’s. Phil’s main problems are a lack of pace and loss of confidence but he is an intelligent player, reads the game well, strong in the air and gets stuck in.

After Anfield I must admit to losing a lot of faith in Phil as he had such a bad game and it seemed that AW did as well as he never played again. I am not sure about this however.

If he came back I would say let’s wipe the slate clean and start again. Apart from Kolo, AW has not developed a central defender at Arsenal so maybe it was not all Phil’s fault that the did not develop as we hoped he would.

  361. Alex Ice Cream

    Guys,

Let Paul have his say. I happen to disagree with most of his post but there is no reason for people to be unpleasant.

    Paul,

Yes our defence was shite but I disagree that Sagna’s form has dropped considerably as he has been solid all season. The fullbacks were deliberately kept back from attacking as much by AW to stop us leaking so many goals halfway through the season. Last night Sagna did not look anything like 100% fit.

As for Toure, yes he struggled last year, especially at right back and lost some confidence but he got malaria in preseason which is serious. This may explain his initial poor form. He also doesn’t get on with Gallas but he has been really solid in the last few months so what you say about him is simply not true.

I don’t know why AW bought Silvestre either but AW doesn’t spend much money on centre backs and maybe the players he wanted were too expensive or unavailable. Personally I think we need another CB.

I agree that we miss Gallas but it wasn’t so long ago that people wanted him out.

  362. ………2 goals to the good………

  363. Maria who scored the goal?

  364. I’ve have watched Hangeland for years in the Danish League.

He is strong tackler, very good header of the ball and ideal for a low defending team.

Got no real speed and no good ball-passing.

In short a rock definitively not good enough for Arsenal except when we are playing Chelsea and Drogba

  365. …Paul is having his say….

  366. Alex Ice Cream

    Good.

  367. Thanks for your assessment Kaalhoveddk. If only football was like a computer game – but unfortunately defenders won’t sit on the bench and be wheeled out for a couple of games like the championship managers think!

  368. No one is stopping anyone saying what they want to say, but equally if someone doesn’t agree with them they are also entitled to say that too.

Steve, Sanchez Watt scored the first one and was fouled by their keeper for a penalty for the second one which Wilshere took.

  369. Dont like to see my name associated with such comments and such abuse.

Sagna was obviously not fully over his problem, you could see that he was a bit weak in trying to clear the ball but to say he hasnt been good this season is off to me.

    Toure has been great!

  370. And Bartley makes it 3 – a header from a Wilshere cross

  371. AIC. I have not been unpleasant to Paul! I am Just offering discussion fro the other side of the coin.

  372. AIC. Defender of Free Speech and pleasantness.

  373. Watt scores his second – I’m really annoyed now because I had a ticket for this but couldn’t go!

  374. The youth team are really playing well…. shame it’s not on tv…..

  375. Paul did call Ateeb a “tosser.” He deserves abuse for that.

The decision for Senderos to go out on loan must have been made at the last minute, making the number of choices for a temporary replacement limited.

  376. Steve;

    Brace for Watt
    JW, pen.
    Bartley

  377. Where are you guys gettin this info on the match from?

  378. Thanks Passenal

  379. and Maria

  380. Thia really should be on Arsenal TV. Why isn’t it?

  381. Pz, I am defending my name not actually this paul because I also think his comments are way out of line.

  382. Paul; ArsenalOnline……

  383. thanks Maria!

  384. a is next to s on the keyboard.

  385. Maria, Setanta Sports Arsenal TV are showing Arsenal Youth at 9.15 tonight but I don’t know if it is a replay of something old or if it is a delayed showing of the game against City.

  386. Sorry, Paul N. I was replying to AIC there.

  387. FrogM,

I am not to sure but it’s 6-1 on agg. so it’s well worth watching….

  388. 4-0, WOW!

  389. 6-2 should i say…..

  390. my bad, Pz!

  391. Maria: Well then I certainly hope it’s the game against City that they are showing. Should be a great watch.

  392. City get one back just before half-time

  393. Paul: No offense, but you say a lot and yet when asked to provide solid facts to back up your argument you disappear….why is that?

  394. Arsenal TV is not very good for live games. They show reserve games live but not youth or ladies games, just half hour highlights.

  395. That is poor then Steve. Why not show the Youth and women’s games? No one else does.

  396. I think Setanta had a live earlier round game (Sunderland?) and sky are more interested in some crappy PL game than our important Semi-Final :-)

  397. Agreem, the ladies deserve it with what they have done in womens football, I would love to watch their matches.

Would also be nice to watch the up and coming young men we have coming through the ranks.

  398. Paul N;

    How was Miami??

  399. …well I think that Paul is a f*cking puff..

  400. Enland U18′s are playing Ireland’s U18 on friday, I wonder how many Arsenal players will play.

  401. Steve: Yes that is something I do not understand, they show the reserve games live, why not the youth games. The only youth games I have seen on Arsenal TV have always been delayed recordings.

  402. Frank; I am not from England, what does “puff” mean.

  403. Maybe they don’t want that level of scrutiny on young players who are just developing. There are a couple of websites focused on the youth players and sometimes the comments on there about who will ‘make it’ or not can be quite unbelievable at times!

  404. Anyone have the misfortune to put the Man U game on? Dear oh dear. If Big Nick was off last night …

  405. “Would also be nice to watch the up and coming young men we have coming through the ranks.”

That’s actually what you get from the reserves as we tend to play a very young team apart from the occasional first team player returning from injury. Unlike some teams who play their £17 m summer signing and the rest of their over-priced first team players who can’t get a game!

  406. I think in a couple of years we are going to get our very own “All Arsenal T.V”, when the corporations realize that we will be dominating the P.L for a very long time. Can’t wait.

  407. I’ll second that Ateeb

  408. not watching it steww – I’m half-following the youth game on ATVO. What’s happening?

  409. Maria, Miami was great.

Got to hang out with my family! and went to a wedding on the intercoastal across from Downtown Miami. Great view!

Didnt get to go the beach but next time.

  410. True Passenal

  411. Paul N;

…………I am so jealous but will try to contain myself considering you are a fellow Gooner……….

  412. I appreciate that Maria!

I am actually going back to Florida next month to Naples on the west coast, that is also a beautiful place.

  413. NEW ALIEN SPECIES DISCOVERED AT ANFIELD

Scientists crowded around their television sets last night to witness a new species thought to have arrived from an alien galaxy. Andrei Arshavin, nominally from St Petersburg in russia, scored 4 goals in a display of power and precision that scientists said was not normally associated with homo sapiens.

Arshavin, exhibiting speed and physical coordination appeared to slow down time whilst onlookers watch the ball go into the net. Scientists are interested in taking samples of Arshavin for genetic analysis. The player, who had very few touches of the ball in the first half, yet scored, exploded in nova fashion in the 2nd half, leaving puzzlement and bewilderment etched on to the face of Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp:

“Well yeah.. of course all top footballers can do what he did, 2 footed, strike the ball on the inside and outside of the ball and bend it both ways”

Scientists are not convinced however, believing that Redknapp was talking up the ability of spurs players out of embarassment and loyalty to his dad’s team.

Scientists continue to examine the video, believing that Arshavin exhibited super human capabilities that merit further study.

  414. Stick a fork in Man City, they are done!

  415. Arsenal 4 Man City 1 aggregate score 6 – 2 into the youth cup final. Well done boys.

  416. ………..Arsenal through to the FINAL…hope i am saying that in two weeks time……….!!!

  417. If anyone’s bored, the Barca-Sevilla match is just starting.

  418. Great Muppet!

I find Redknapp pretty funny, he just cannot hide how biased he is but tries to come across as so impartial. Funny guy!

  419. On the Sky Sports Ticker it read,

    “FA Youth Cup Semi-Final – Liverpool v Birmingham 7pm”

    Not a mention of ours.

  420. Did Redknapp really say that?

  421. ….so who won then Steve in that game?

  422. Maria, I cannot find the score for their game yet.

  423. Yes, he did say something like that PZ. And then quickly moved on to stress the bad liverpool defending.

  424. http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Football/2009/04/22/Prem-Anelka-on-WengerArsenalChelsea/gnid-49820/

The more i hear him speak the more i dislike him…..very much like most ‘glamour’ models Anelka needs to understand that it’s body over mind in most cases……

  425. Liverpool were 0-3 up from the 1st leg so I should think it would be them in the final.

  426. PaulN ~
That’s a good one; not heard it before..
(Sounds a bit American to come naturally from us, tho’).

  427. How did we ever lose to that Stamford Bridge lot. Cjelsea are crap that fat biased bastard Gray hasnt had much to say. And that Drogba for all his prowes doesnt half fall about. What a dissapointment and Anti Climax following the battle of the kop. Everton playing well. Jo has missed 3 great chances to put Chelsea out their misery.

  428. Maybe it is more if an American phrase, I dont really know PB, but I like also!

Actually I heard a guy say it on “yo mama!”

They would find the funniest people from certain neighborhoods, then they would clown eachother to see who was the funniest.

  429. G4L, I just think we showed them too much respect. If Bolton can put in 3 against them, I am sure we couldve done some damage if we attacked more.

  430. Other Paul –
So you were at Anfield ? Well, what a hero. It’s not that bloody hard to get there.
Please don’t knock Bac ( JD’s nickname, not mine) ~ over the season he’s been immense.
Bet his virus was the Ebola virus or something, as he’s one tough guy; gets clattered and just walks away – and i just love him. He’s got the kind of cool one can only envy.

@M: You watched the highlights before the game ? Nice one!
Been a mellow post today – thanks people.

  431. Other Paul ran away hours ago, Ponyboy.

  432. Are you okay at the moment, Ponyboy? You’ve seemed subdued of late.

  433. Barca scoring for fun now.

  434. …how many times do you have to tell people what a f*cking puff is…read your own f*cking Sheridan plays…give you a clue…The Critic…the F*cking Spanish Armada….ffs..

  435. Although we don’t have a word for it apparently the Russians call scoring 4 goals in one game ‘a poker’. From AA’s website

“arshavin.eu: Andrey, do people love poker in England? (quad goals are called “poker” in Russia – translator) (quad goals are called “poker” in Russia – translator)
AA: I’ll gladly play it in every coming game.”

I think I prefer the ‘hat and scarf trick’ someone suggested earlier!

  436. What’s the score Paul N?

  437. hello all, good result for us tonight with both chelsea and everton getting a bore draw….

  438. No Messi either, PaulN. Rare sighting of Hleb tonight though. Guardiola is kind to give him a pity game when the team’s already 4-0 up.

  439. by the way…. top post YW

theres been a few top posts today…..having a look around the blogs, the general concensus is that it was a good game last night…. a top top advert for the PL…..

makes you proud to be part of it doesnt it……

  440. Am fine PZ..
Trying to watch a DVD which keeps stopping.. so i pop on here –

Good to be subdued now and then ~ needed…
    That fu*king DVD tho…

    Frank: What’s a puff ?

  441. “Frank: What’s a puff ?”

You devil Ponyboy, are you looking for trouble?

  442. …its a f*cking dragon, Pb…well it might as well be…anyway…doesn’t anyone f*cking read anymore?

    ….stop wheedling JimJim…

  443. Can you get The Critic in ladybird format?

  444. we need a new keeper, a new striker a couple o defenders and a midfielder!!….well according to Ian wright.

  445. …well I doubt it…but you might be able to get it in talking book format…Drew10 could hear it then…

  446. ….and some pro-AW ex-player pundits…

  447. That made me laugh earlier!

    Isn’t it called synaesthesia?

  448. …ones who are not bitter and twisted because AW pronounced them over the hill…

  449. …yes I think it is…although the differential diagnosis is complex…could be he is just psychtic…as in schizophrenia….hearing voices and so forth…but if he can hear the actual words we are writing…and if that can be proved…that is impressive..

  450. fwank you dont suprise me one bit….
cant be bothered tonight….but that doesnt mean you’ve hounded me out…

i like YW posts and i will continue to read them, and comment on them whether you like it or not….

you say your pro arsenal…..but you insult the names of ex arsenal players (jack kelsey) you enjoy it when we lose (your own words) and you continually abuse new people to the site…..who happen to be fellow gooners…. not very pro arsenal is it?????

  451. …whoops psychotic..

  452. …I have no intention of hounding you out, JimJim…happy to have you on board…..you a friend of Kelsey’s then?…seems to me that Jack Kelsey would turn in his grave if he could read Kelsey’s rather inflated posts…Kelsey is a puff I tell you…but then you don’t know him do you, son…?…

  453. I used to love Ian Wright but I can’t believe how far he has fallen in my estimation since he became a pundit.

  454. Cool. You’re the doc.

    Some dude with synaesthesia:

“Whenever I hear, read, or articulate (inner speech) words or word sounds, I experience an immediate and involuntary taste sensation on my tongue.”

Let’s hope no synaesthetes ever have the misfortune of reading one of Howard’s posts. It could leave a really nasty taste in his/her mouth.

  455. …he is a populist, Passenal…..listened to the phone-ins…talked to the tabloids….read the Arsenal blogsites….just like the hack dwarf…there is money to be made in dising the manager and squad…that makes Ian Wright a whore….and a turn coat…now the former is fine…we all have to make a living…but the latter is intolerable to real Arsenal supporters….

  456. …reading Howard would probable give rise to the unavoidable sensation of desperately needing to fart…

  457. …and possibly even being able to approximate the vocalisation of Howards posts …but from the bum….

  458. Alex Ice Cream

A bit late I know. I challenged Paul on his views and he didn’t respond. A lot of people appear then disappear quickly or find it hard to deal with their views being challenged.

If he wants to reply then fine however.

  459. …you give him permission to reply do you, AIC…

  460. Alex Ice Cream

    Passenal,

I agree with you about Wright. I have hardly hear him say anything good about the club in the 11 years since he left.

The worse is Platt who seems to have a deep hatred for Arsenal even though we paid for his overdue retirement by paying the crock £1m a year.

  461. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

Funny, and I am not being sarcastic! I was implying that Paul didn’t want to reply to the (rather mild) challenging of his views but if he responded then maybe I was wrong.

  462. A tinge disappointed by yesterday’s result now because of today’s results, we could have been in touching distance of 3rd place (by gaining 3 pts when we play Chelsea) & a very realistic shot at 2nd place as well.

  463. …I agree with your comment at 11.10, AIC…

  464. …we still are, Siva…we still are…we will beat Chelski…and they will draw two more matches…just watch…

  465. Alex Ice Cream

I agree Frank. I have nothing against whores but Wright has betrayed us; he even told his son to sign for Chelsea

I prefer to totally blank our him and his words out now and just remember his playing days.

  466. Siva, I really wonder when everything will fall into place for us. We’ve just got most of our attacking players back and then lose our first (and second in some positions) choice defenders. With Gallas, Clichy, Almunia and a fully fit Sagna that game could have been so different.

  467. Alex Ice Cream

    Siva,

We still have to play Chelsea at home so its still not over. If we beat them them its game on.

Our draw does put a bit more pressure on ManU so perhaps they might not be able to rest too many players before the CL semi.

  468. I just read that they’ve got injury worries in defence too – Neville and O’Shea both got injured tonight and Ferdinand is struggling with a back problem. I even saw a critical piece about their performance tonight and wondering whether Berbatov was worth the transfer fee. Never thought I’d see that! Mind you, it could all be a bluff by Ferguson and they all make a miraculous recovery in time for the CL games – I wouldn’t put anything past him!

  469. Frank @ 10:59 – You are absolutely right about the reason these twats easily diss Arsenal and the Manager. It makes them money (pundits) or hits on their websites (bloggers). Troll NewsNow for any and all clubs in England and there are infinitely more Arsenal related sites than any other EPL. Tells me that there is a lot of eyeballs that that are attracted to the Gunners, and I am no rocket scientist. Take the following combination: Arsene is French; the club has a higher percentage of non-British players than most EPL teams; the club has taken a non-conventional, common-sense approach to living within its means and it relies on recruiting and developing young talent rather big-named expensive stars. This is ready-made for exploitation by those threatened by Arsenal’s success in contrast to their failed check-book policies, plain old envy, and the rabble-rousing xenophobic elements in your country.
As you’ve said before Frank – the biggest problem is not our envious, scared opponents, it is our own fans. They are like lemmings, fall for the shit the media propogates and pile on the most dirt and crap on their own manager and team. With a few exceptions, Y.W. being among the few, most bloggers are the worst offenders.

  470. Just read an article concerning player ratings from the 4-4 at Anfield and the below made me smile. Thought I’d share the smile.

Andrei Arshavin 9 Warrants a man of the match award purely for becoming the first visiting player in 63 years to score four at Anfield, three clinical finishes and one a swerving, bending, magnificent howitzer.
    :)

  471. What about the 4 goals scored by Baptista? That was less than 63 years ago surely?

  472. Ah… fair point, Passenal.

Although my amusement was more at the “magnificent howizter” than the [incorrect] facts.

Now he was a strange one, that Baptista fellow.

  473. Shotta – Shut up. Get a life you paranoid freak. Do you look behind you when you walk. Do you have a neck spasm?. Yeah the whole world hate Arsenal except you and Frank. Think of a different topic you keep repeating yourselves over over. If it wasn’t for you and Frank Arsenal will not exist you paid for The Emirates. 60 thousand go to the Emirates are not worhy fans except you and Frank of course You probably never been to the Emiates. You make me laugh. You bunch of loonatics with nothing else better to do. Go and support the team don’t sit behind your stupid Pc and make yourself feel big.

  474. Yes, the howitzer comment was a good one. People seem to have forgotten Baptista, but let’s hope AA’s four goals at Anfield will be the start of something big and that he doesn’t turn out to be a damp squib too!

  475. CH@el$ki f*cked up…niiiiiice.

  476. Passenal the 63 years was in the league not the cup.

  477. …you are a star, shotta-gunna…

  478. …since you ask……I have had a season ticket since the eighties and go to every home game and as many away games as possible, boiled sprat….not many of the latter these days admittedly…

…I don’t know if S-G gets to games ..but why criticise supporters who are not able to get to games?….and why crticise supporters for getting angry with press, media and worst of all sites who undermine Arsenal support….I am sure this contributes to the poor levels of support at the ground these days…..the supporters in the Arsenal Stadium fall very short of Anfield…our away support is much much better….although I have known our away supporters to boo their own players recently which is very embarassing…

    …happy St George’s day…

  479. …..now I fancy West Ham against Chelski at the weekend…

  480. Happy St. George’s Day.

    I agree with Frank.

  481. By getting engaged as you did with the language you used, spoiled brat, you are doing precisely what you asked others not to do. “don’t sit behind your stupid Pc and make yourself feel big.”

  482. AA’s second and fourth goal were special strikes. The counter attack for the fourth goal was so reminiscent of 2004-2005. I saw Walcott sprinting down the right wing and thought he had no support.

Then a streak of lightning emerged on the left flank. Arshavin had actually outsprinted Walcott! The composure he had and the power he displayed on his left foot was super special. Havent seen a player so genuinely two footed in the league.

Nasri is displaying really good defensive awareness and tackling ability. He could play anywhere in the midfield. Two more amazing signings from the boss.

  483. …I agree with Alex…

  484. Now it’s time to get real. Andrey had an amazing game on Tuesday but I really hope Gibbs will get better cover against first Boro and then the Mancs.

  485. that’s a great article, thanks for highlighting the link Maria.

  486. It’s time to take down Flyes Balmer of ANR. The guy is not even an arsenal fan. He’s slowly moving to showing his Chelsea affiliations.

Let’s hasten the process and claim back the Arsenal space for Arsenal fans.

  487. Frank-I agree there are certain fans who have the money but don’t have a clue what its like to be a real fan and might not deserve to be at the Emirates. My question is what do we do?. Do we keep slaging them off and show that we are divided . When people come on this site and you insult them. I know your idea is to stay positive and never ever criticise the players or manager and that’s fine but try to respond to those who don’t agree with you in a manner that you might bring them on your side rather than alienate them. Frank you are smart enough to use your wit to defend and stand up for your principals but insulting your fellow gooners is not a nice thing to do. If Wrighty criticises Arsenal we don’t slag him off like you said he has to make a living he has given us some wonderful moments and I will not forget that. Just let him be. No matter what their views they are all gooners to me.

  488. Good morning. Different topic but I am wondering why it has all gone quiet at the FA on the Fabregas alledged Spitting incident. Surely they should have come out by now and annouced that Phil Brown is a w*nker and will be brought up on charges for his ridiculous charges.

  489. re. Myles “buy my book” Palmer.

he is a twat, no doubt.

but his last paragraph on his latest post is right – Chelski supporters really are the scum of the earth.

  490. I agree OG. How any fan can right such bilge after we get to the semi final of the CL is beyond me.

  491. Good morning QOS. I just copied this from Le Grove, I see people miss you, well except Geoff :-)

    MARK GOONER Says:

    April 23, 2009 at 09:17
    where has queen of suburbia

    aka mrs Denilson gone

    Geoff Says:

    April 23, 2009 at 09:19
    Slung off Mark, kept arguing.

  492. Matty; Agreed, Myles is a useless twat!!!!

  493. SB, thats fairly persuasive. However, what is the definition of an Arsenal fan? Quite a few people claiming to be gooners are just individuals who use their club as an extension of themselves whereby their year or life is defined by whatever happens at their club. For these ‘fans’, bitterness at failures becomes intensely personal and abuse for players and the coach is just a method of “letting of some steam”. After all, because they ‘support’ the club any whim or fancy that they have has to be pandered to or else….they wont renew their season tickets.

Moreover, whatever the manager does, some fans use any excuse to run him down. Many moaned that in the initial part of the season, our youthful team lacked experience and needed a finished article. Wenger buys Arshavin in January, and now many claim that splurging cash ala Chelsea, Man U and Citeh is the only way forward for our club.

Now..I am a huge huge fan of Arshavin but reading comments on some blogs like –

“Big names give you big performances… this guy (Arshavin) proves money buys happiness, excitement, and magic.” are absolutely appaling and exactly the kind of philosophy that Arsenal doesnt stand for.

  494. Very reasonable this morning, Spolied brat. Quite a different tone than your post aimed at Shotta last night. Why? Are you sober this morning or have you decided to write in English in honour of St George’s Day?

I don’t agree with you though. There are enough apologists for the likes of Wright, a player I loved, without me joining in. Anyone who attacks my team will draw my fire. Simple I am an Arsenal fan. Wright isn’t. Nor are his employers or those who write articles or post on blogs saying ‘Wenger is a liar’ or Song/Denilson/Eboue/RVP are not Arsenal Standard/fit to wear the shirt’.

The fact is they do wear the shirt and as such it is our job, the fans, to support them at all times. Thick and thin. Win or lose.

It’s bit rich you coming over all reasonable with your stuff about not alienating people. You have written some appalling things since you appeared on here. Live by the sword…

  495. Good one Muppet. If the Chelsea supporting hack’s website had a comment section, it would be the single most expletive ridden one in blighty.

He is a leech. Writes about our club and manager is an agenda suiting himself and whoever it is who can pay him to maintain his lifestyle.

  496. Feliç Sant Jordi!

    Cervantes and Shakespeare died today.

So boys and girls swap presents here. It used to be that boys got books and the girls red roses, but now both sexes receive books – and the girls still get to have a rose as well.

  497. …I agree with Alex and ConsolsBob…

  498. He needs to be taken down mr. palmer.

  499. Thanks for the link, Muppet….at least some Arsenal supporters recognise a parasitic leech when they see one…sadly the hack dwarf is not the only blogsite which has been consistently running down the squad and players season upon season…the constant drip drip drip is bound to have an effect on the psyche of match day supporters…many of them think more of their right to write bile about the club than they do the manager and squad….strangely none of them seem to be able to deal with their own tactics being turned back upon them…f*cking arseholes is what I say….regardless of what boiled sprats mum may think…

  500. I agree with Frank..

  501. It amuses me that so-called fans consider being entirely unsupportive as them being supportive.

Here we are mostly fans of the current regime, certainly the current manager, but do we feel neither make mistakes? Do we never shake our head at a team selection or public statement?

Course we bloody do, but then we dust ourselves off and move on, because that is how we choose to truly lend our support.

We do not vigourously attack, boo and insult our own players, least of all our own young “making their way” players. Some call this a right to voice their opinions, that they are entitled by the fact they “support” the club (what a farcical argument!)

Often these same so-called fans, declare they still “support” ths boss and are not requesting him be removed, yet they heckle every decision, abuse him and our players, because they have a right to voice their opinions of the club they “support”.

If these people think they are creating an environment where a club can be a success, they are seriously deluded.

That is my role as a supporter.

  502. …I agree with Danny…

  503. ..and Danny..

  504. Out of interest how much credit does Wenger get for signing Arshavin?

When the arm-chair twats had us signing half a dozen other battlers, defenders and defensive midfielders alike, when the pundits declared we do not need him, we have ten a penny of the lad already. When the rest of Europe decided not to persue an interest.

None, he’s now everyone’s favourite player and how unforgivable that he does not start a game.

Breaking News : We have found a new stick to beat the gaffer with.

I mean rightfully voice our opinion for the club and manager we “support”.

  505. …to illustrate the point…if the game on Tuesday had been played at the Arsenal stadium…half the Arsenal supporters would have left when it was 3-3….only 10,000 would have been left to applaud the players off the pitch….and because the Scousers scored last…wouldn’t mind betting that one or two would have booed…

….more or less happened in the home game….the atmosphere was great to start with….it reached a crescendo with the booing of Liverpool…we do booing rather well….and then petered out becuase lots of people started thinking about catching their trains and having their tea….

  506. I started my 10:45 rant/post with -

“It amuses me that so-called fans……”

What I meant to say is – “It royally f%cks me off that so-called fans…..”

    That’s better.

  507. …oh AW only bought AA because of the blogs, Danny….didn’t you know?…and even then he didn’t buy him when they told him….half of them are still after what they call a f*cking DM as well…

  508. …well corrected, Danny…it reads better now…

  509. Frank,

More breaking news: Arshavin dedicates his four goal salvo, to the blogs that brought him to the club and have made his integration into the Arsenal squad so seamless.

  510. …it is interesting and very revealing that so many bloggers have already converted AA into a rod for AWs and the rest of squad’s backs….

  511. Spoiled Brat,
Pls take the time to DIGEST FULLY the words of Alex & Consolsbob earlier,

make an HONEST assessment of your views as a gooner,

tune in to your club’s economic operating philosophy that places developing the young over SELLING OUT one’s soul to the bankers of the New World Order

while playing the kind of football people all over the world deserve to be watching in the 21st century (in their quest to remain sane & hopeful that this new reality isn’t just bullsh*t).

And if you still do not get why Frank & ACLF’s other RASERS here have little patience for the selfish, tabloid-soaked, sellout D&Gers….?

then just f**k off Spoiled Brat!!! U & SWP’s sellout dad!

  512. On looking back the AA transfer might broken down by the brinkmanship played by both Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg

  513. In reality, it does go something like -

Thank God and well done for Gazidis, Kroenke and whoever really, for bringing the little Russian genius to the club.

And pass me that stick so I can give that French F%cker another going over.

  514. Frank & Danny…..RASER star gents!!!!

    wholeheartedly agree

  515. Pope Gelasius said that George is one of the saints “whose names are rightly reverenced among us, but whose actions are known only to God.”….

…..I suspect what he actually said, when asked what this George fellow had done, was…’God knows…George who?…I don’t know any Georges…’….the press and media were just as good at deliberately misinterpreting in the middle ages as they are now…

….with todays press and media….we should probably change the name of Englands patron saint to St Mandy….patron saint …or matron saint I should say…of teenage pregnancies..

  516. …it is good to celebrate England though….England is a very good country…it must be because it has London in it….and London has got Arsenal in it…

  517. Good morning ACLFers – from the sunny Caribbean.
    Frank – you are right
    Dannny – f*cking royally right
    Consol – damn right
    Luke – on the ball
    Muppet – funny right
    OleGunner – analytically right
    Frogman – brand new right

Just thought I’d stick this to Spoiled Brat – another spoiled Arsenal fan who can’t stand the truth.

  518. You have to be pretty stupid really to think that Arsene wasn’t behind the AA signing.

Apart from the fact that he loves Arsenal, and wants to finish what he has started at our club, one of the major reasons why he will probably never go to manage a Real Madrid is the lack of control over player signings.

There is no way AW didnt want Arshavin, and no way he would of had a player imposed on him by the board.

  519. Mind you – he probably only signed him because certain blogs told him too, because they know 100% that AW reads them…. ;-)

  520. Shotta is Categorically right!!

  521. I am some what new here but it really bothers me when I read on other blogs and hear former players (Wright) complaining that AFC have won northing and it is unacceptable for a club of Arsenals stature to go this long without a trophy. I am the first to admit that Wenger has made his share of mistakes but if it was not for this man coming to our club in the first place then these spoilt brats that make these comments would have no substance to base there arguments on. I can recall some extremely long spells (up to 12 years) where we went without winning a trophy. These people and in particular Ian Wright need to shut their big mouths and respect and appreciate just what Wenger has bought to this club!!

  522. Matt,

My friend who who is AW’s housekeeper reliably informs me that AW would’nt dream of starting a day without a cup of piping hot columbian coffee enjoyed while reading and meditating over his daily LG post.

On some days Mr. Wenger, the 3 time EPL winner and 4 time FA cup winner, takes a print out of the post and spends an hour underlining some salient parts of it with a flouroscent permanent marker.

  523. AW clearly loves him some AA.
If not before the Euros, definitely during.

Once i read he said he didn’t think AA was strong enough to handle the EPL, I knew he wanted him bad!

AA clearly loves the club too.
A match made in heaven will always be disbelieved by the cynical loveless.

  524. Alex @ 11:50 am – Brilliant!

Thanks Ateeb, but I am not always right. For example – I wrote that our Big-4 game with Pool would be low-scoring. Just in case the Spoiled Brat goes back to Monday’s posts. LOL!

  525. I can quite believe it Alex! :-)

  526. Well I sure hope you believe it Matt. Your avatar looks quite incredulous to me.

  527. hello people, it has been quite a while…

  528. Am also really marveled t the idea that AW had a player he didn’t want imposed on him

And this coming from some people that believe AW has brown bigger than the club and has only desires imposed.

    Seriously baffling.

  529. team spirit,

Gazidis and Fiszman run the transfer policy at our club. Dont you read ANR?

  530. Anr is not exactly spot on in some issues. It just shows the views of Myles Palmer who may be a bit emotional sometimes.
