Comings And Goings Of Arsene’s Reign

A popular theory around Arsenal is that Arsene Wenger rarely makes a mistake when letting a player go, their form either dropping significantly or injuries striking to mar a career. In some cases, it is not hard to suggest that Wenger got shot of players who were simply not good enough for the club, Richard Wright and Francis Jeffers spring immediately to mind in this category.

The theory gets clouded when you choose the benchmarks for judging whether a player has been released at the right time. In general, Wenger has got his timings right defensively. The solid back four of the Graham-era all slipped into retirement at the end of their careers, seemlessly replaced by the Campbell and Toure pairing.

The former’s exit would not have been predicted in the same manner that his predecessors were. Indeed, it was entirely disappointing that he pitched up on the South Coast rather than the Balearics. Perhaps the whole thing was a load of balearics, masking his personal issues behind a desire to play abroad. We will never know the truth unless he decides to write an ‘honest’ autobiography at some point.

Further up the pitch, there can be little argument that Ljungberg, Parlour, Hartson, Wright and Merson all left at the right time. Injuries, age and form in general dictated that they be released at the time they were. Pires was to my mind let go too soon.

Despite his age, he showed during the run to Paris in 2006 that he was adapting his game successfully to the challenges provided by age. Injuries have marred his spell in Spain, as they have Edu’s but were he to have remained at Arsenal, would he have suffered them? An imponderable for which no answers can ever be given.

Where things become clouded are those who left for other reasons. Nicolas Anelka was a bright young thing, his fee funding other signings. Yet is it true to suggest that Wenger let him go at the right time. From a personal point of view, he may argue that he has more ‘cherished’ medals from other pastures; a Champions League winner and runner-up as well as a title in Turkey, along with runners-up in Spain and England compliment the winners medals at Arsenal. Has he lived up to his potential? I would suggest not.

Patrick Vieira might well have given the best years of his career to Arsenal but he has not stopped winning trophies. Every season since, he has won a title (although the Juve win was scrubbed due to the Calciogate scandal) which suggests he must be doing something right. Whilst his performances may not be as highly regarded as before, his medal count is increasing.

Henry may well be equally successful. Certainly this season has seen him performing as consistently for Barcelona as he has in his last seasons at Arsenal. His role is different now, less central to the Barcelona’s team than he was crucial to Arsenal’s.

The Catalans are an interesting destination, for every success that there has been, an equally despairing stay in the Camp Nou. Opposite to Henry and Overmars are Hleb and Petit. The latter was always seen as a makeweight in the deal whilst the former seems unlikely to force his way into a midfield of Iniesta and Xavi. Perhaps the second season will be better for Hleb, if he gets that far.

The key to deciding whether Wenger has let players go at the right time is not on any misery or joy they find in pastures new. The defining aspect of any judgement must be whether Arsenal continued, improved or worsened. Only once can Wenger be perceived to have been caught out. The summers of 2006 – 08 saw a large number of departures by key personnel which have coincided with a spell of injuries in each season that make decisions seem incorrect. It was a crucial time for the club with finances tight due to the construction of the new stadium impacting on the manager’s ability to delve into the transfer market.

The youth policy may have been pressed into action sooner than Wenger may have wanted but they have maintained the club in the top four. That is not enough for some, a short-term view maintaining that we must win now at all costs. Perhaps Wenger would have bought others had he known how things would turn out but hindsight is a wonderful thing. We are never wrong with it.

One departure rankles with me: Mathieu Flamini. Not because of the role he played in the team but more the mythology that has built up around him. One good season does not mean he was a God that some believe. Nor, on the other hand, should his contribution for the season in midfield be dismissed. I wonder though how he feels when warming the seats on the San Siro bench. I have a suspicion that he is a player who will end up moving through the doors of a number of clubs before retiring.

His departure is emphasised by those of Diarra and Gilberto. Had either of those two stayed, then perceptions would be different. Had Diaby been fit this season more frequently, he may have featured more, the midfield more settled than the disruption suffered. If’s, But’s and Maybe’s, the three worst words in the English language after ‘Health and Safety’.

The truth is that Wenger is probably no more successful in this area than any other manager at the game’s summit. Good players want to stay at successful clubs and that is key to longevity of careers. What matters most though is that the club’s long-term future is well

’til Tomorrow.

    First.

  2. what is the measure of success?

    Again, a great post!

  3. Aspiring Pheonix

I believe the Reyes departure was something that Arsene would have loved to avoid. I don’t know how much you guys rated him but I believe had he stayed with us and been happy about it, we would have suffered much less in our ‘transition period’

  4. Aspiring Pheonix

But in the end I guess Reyes was not an ‘Arsenal material’ in terms of mental side of things. I hope I’m not being too harsh on him.

  5. This is such a great Blog..! Great Post Yogi. You deserve the plaudits for the time and thoughtful insight you consistently provide on this blog. If only newspapers could write to your standards.!

I have been watching Henry’s performances for Barca this season. While he has been scoring – most of the goals have been easy pickings from inside the box. The henry with the blinding pace – is sadly no more and he certainly doesn’t influence games at Barca in the same light. I can’t see him being Kept by Barca as he’s on colossal money and fading. I could never understand why he left Arsenal when he was so revered here.
I think Hleb has left a bad taste in many a fans mouth. No sooner had his transfer gone through than he was goading fans about the prospect of cesc arriving in Barca. I also think any player that goes behind a managers back to discuss a possible move the night before you play a CL match in Milan – is better off out of the club. Hleb has got what he deserved.
I thoroughly agree with your views on Flamini. Flamini only really delivered in his last season at Arsenal. As he was a free agent – Milan could afford to pay him much more than his true worth and I admire Arsene for standing so firm. But I too think Arsene got it wrong by not replacing him the same season.
I think Arshavin will steal the limelight from Cesc next season and become the most influential player in this team. He is an out and out No 10. While I think messi is a more talented winger than AA – I genuinely believe that Arsene may just have bought the best No 10 in the world. Liam Brady was commenting on the Euros for RTE during the summer. Brady is thoughtful, reserved, statistical in his commentary and doesn’t do hyperbole or exaggeration. He thought AA was by a long distance the best player he has seen in many years so its not surprising Wenger went hammer and tongs after him in January.
I don’t think were far away from having a panel that can win both domestic and European silverware.!

  6. A Sunday feature…like it, nice piece. Good read Yogi. Was it written recently? The irony being that on a Sunday with less hours than the usual, you have found time to re-invent yourself as a 7-days a week slave to the Arsenal!

All managers make mistakes with the timing of such departures, one season too soon, one season too late. A player stays and finds the minutes he seeked, a player leaves before accepting a new role in young squad.

Ferguson readily claims Stam as a depature too hasty, but what he and Wenger both do, is not dwell on such errors.

Flamini as an error of judgment carries little weight. One season before he had no role, nor looked capable of seizing one. He would not sign a contract, to prolong that benched (at best, often not even in matchday squads) misery and then as he finds himself at the heart of our side, he is free to consider his options. No blame can be proportioned to any party. Maybe, Flamini himself for not sensing having found his niche in the game, but really he followed his heart and that of his father’s.

There are just two in my thinking, but Wenger cannot take sole blame, for it is his players, that he empowers with their own freedom and who’s implicit trust he gains as a result, who have seeked new pastures.

Pires as previously mentioned, simply could not accept Champions League rejection. Bobby, someone had to come off, it could only really be you or Freddie for my money, although I would have withdrawn Freddie, he was in better form and the more combative of the two in a dogfight. It made sense, but it was the saddest way to say goodbye and will be a regret we all harbour. A true Arsenal great, an absolute pleasure to watch, still.

The other is Manu Petit. His head duly turned by a stunning rise to footballing prominence and opportunity to grace the great Camp Nou that seems to cast such a shadow over our club in particular.

His personality, was that of a winner, combative and part of the best Central Midfield pairing of my lifetime. I cannot help but to feel, he is the one. If he had of stayed, the trophies would have continued to flow. They seemed perfect together, where one needed to roll his sleeves up, the other could roll his socks down and then seamlessly they could switch such roles.

But, that is of course hopelessly romantic as he failed to recapture his best form, beset by injuries.

I still cannot help but to wonder!

  7. Let’s not forget Flamini f*cked us over every bit as badly as Hleb.
    ‘Yeah, gimme the contract, I’ll sign it…yeah, later…when I’ve got a minute…….oh, actually…no. I’m off’.

I don’t get why he hasn’t been getting games in Serie A, especially with Gattuso out injured. To my mind Flamini was our best player last year, so I’m amazed he hasn’t been an instant success in Italy. On the other hand, I hope sitting on the bench hurts.

As for not replacing him, how easy do you think that is? You don’t just stroll to the footy supermarket and look in the DM aisle. There are very few players available who would have fitted the bill, and although a lot of the press reports are meaningless, there were strong rumours about Alonso and Inler.
I believe Arsene tried to sign these two, but it didn’t work out. That’s life.

I agree though, that we’re very close now to having an amazing team. Next season will make up for all the pain and frustration this one has caused us.

  8. Joe’s post is right up there too.

Whatever the reasons that players leave Arsenal, the club and supporters have to move on with those still at the club, and those who will arrive to fill the places vacated.

In the new world order of soccer, it will be hard to find another Bergkamp who played for us right till his retirement.

  9. Excellent post Yogi. Excellent contributions from Joe and Danny too.

In comon with all our posters this morning, I believe that next season will be ours.

Not of course if you read the NOW which has Cesc off to Spain as Arsenal ‘..thinks he perceives himself as bigger than the club’. Although I don’t think they used a word as long as ‘perceive’.

    God Rot All Sports Journalists.

  10. Talking of sad journos, this is nice.

    http://www.arsenal.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=513828

A bit late but nice. I wonder why they apologised. A threat of legal action by Nic?

  11. Oh, by the way, the clocks went forward last night Yogi. Wake up!

  12. It has all happend and have to move forward like the situation we have now that fab is hinting that he may move to werever and hence we are performing well in his absence and that many thought he is our GOD. So lets consentrate with the loyal one’s after all leaving arsenal is a caurce count all of them mybe one or two’s .

  13. Consolsbob,

Still fancy us, for something this season. Have to consider F.A. Cup most likely, as we are just two big games away.

Consider us a threat in the Champions League, just trying to guage what impact Fab and maybe Rosicky could have on our chances.

Could it be, the absence of Arshavin could just unnerve us! Should not be the case, as fully fit, we have plenty of attacking options and if we can out-punch Villareal, it is our little French playmaker, that thrives against United.

Next season, I’d make us favourites for everything!

  14. Bit early to be on substances Alex. Unless you are elsewhere on the world.

  15. When I said the season will be ours, Danny, I did mean that we would be the best side around and up for the lot!

I agree that we are still strong contenders for the two cups. Agree also that the FA cup is the closest to our grasp but the CL? I have a good feeling about that.

Therefore, obviously, we will win it.

  16. YW,

This is my first response but I have been reading your blog for a while now.

I just wanted to congratulate you on the consistently high quality of your posts; you certainly give those “professional” journalists a run for their money!

I am glad to see that you and goonerholic have ket the faith over the course of this season where others (who I had thought to be as optimistic as you at the beginning) such as Goodplaya and Arseblog have been sorely tested and found wanting.

As you say hindsight is always 20/20 and all in all I think Wenger has done a very capable job. The signing of AA is another astute move by Wenger.

Anyway enough ramblings – keep up the good work!

And congrats to your regular respondees contributors too whose responses are always well thought through and articulated.

Phoenix – I often wonder whether if Wenger had started Reyes from the start of the Paris final he would still be with us?

  17. Morning all. Just read yesterday’s posts and was struck by someone’s assertion that “Cesc is arrogant and always has been”.

What utter nonsense. For a 21 year old genius he is a model of modesty and decency. Also, who says he is going anywhere ? Just stop.

Yogi – another good one, especially the “Health and Safety” quip.

  18. btw: Those Poles have got some balls! Of all the places to start a riot, they choose Ulster!

Not sure i’ll be popping over to Warsaw any time soon.. although apparently i am insane, so perhaps, perhaps…

  19. Morning to you Ponyboy. Have you been sharing your substances with Chase and Alex?

They must be completely out of it.

It is incredible how some ‘fans’ have forgotten Cesc and his key role for us after a few weeks away from the side. To them he has been relegated to the ranks of those no longer required.
They pick their favourites on form alone and on what they saw last on MOTD.

I cannot wait to see Cesc back in this side. the sky is the limit.

  20. Well, from your last post you can at least remember back a couple of days, Pb.

A brain transplant? One of Frank’s elephants’ lost his head?

  21. Very nice yogi..interesting blog. Wenger I think sometimes let go of players that don’t want to stay at the club like Anelka, Hleb. Flamini wanted a lot more money from his success of just 1 season. and Pires left because he wanted more games. Not sure why Edu left, again he wasn’t a glorious success.

  22. eboue`s friend

    morning everyone,

vela wasnt even on the bench for mexico against costa rica

  23. I’m sorry to see that the brains of one or two contributors have gone a wool-gathering. One very sane person, however, is Chase. I’m fascinated by his plan to move Arsenal abroad. Arsenal is supported by people all over the world, so why should Londoners only be allowed to watch them? Stop being so selfish! Having just finshed a new stadium, now is the obvious time for a move. In fact, I have an even more ambitious scheme. London is a cosmopolitan city, so why not move it out of England? With the London Olympics only a few years away, it would make access much easier if the location was on the continent. With everyone being so worried about climate change these days, many people will be reluctant to travel all the way to England to watch the Olympics. If London is moved to France, for example, consciences will be eased, and seats filled.

  24. Flint McCullough

    eboue`s friend

Vela was suspended for that game.

Good, thoughtful article, YW, & some worthwhile comments too.

Of course, there is also so much more about keeping or letting player leave than we will ever know. We tend to make our opinions based on playing merits only, whilst the club & players concerned have many more issues.

I don’t think AW has made many mistakes.

Jeffers & Edu were not bad players but could you rely on them to play often enough? PV4 was at a point where injuries needed him to play a different game, that would not have fitted what we needed at the time. Petit was also injury prone & we did well to get so much money for him.

Overmars & Anelka obviously wanted to go & in Bob & TH14 we got replacements, who eventually did much more for the club. All those players were good business.

Freddie & Campbell were sadly finished at our level, whilst Reyes proved unable to settle in England, so it would have been counter productive to have kept him.

We shall probably never know how much AW wanted TH14 to stay or go, but it was probably the right time for player & club.

Flamini & Hleb sought the big pay days & I very much doubt AW wanted them to go. It is not his philosophy to keep players against their will so they went. Flamini has actually featured in 21 games for Milan. Hleb appears to be in the wilderness.

The only really contentious player to leave, who we might have tried harder to keep, was Le Bob.

It is easy to forget, because of his great games leading to the CLCF, that he was not performing that well in the PL games. If he had stayed & I believe he was offered a 1 year deal, his playing time would have diminished so I think he took the best option for himself.

Diarra appears to be in the Cashly camp on esprit de corps, so it was as well to let him go. I would have liked Gilberto to have stayed & converted to CB but we won’t know all the issues there.

My view is that by not replacing the latter 2 we will get a huge future dividend by fully bedding in the likes of Denilson, Song & Diaby. I think we would have had the same sort of season with or without the comings & goings.

You miss out the juniors who were allowed to leave. Sidwell, perhaps Bentley could have been usefull players for us but it is an important part of AW’s style to be fair to the players’ wishes, so that other will always want to come. That is why he has almost universal respect from the playing fraternity.

  25. Consols..
At last! You are making even less sense than me..takes some doing, but you kept at it. Congratulations, old boy!
    * * * * *

Ruislip. Time to go back home now.. safe journey!

  26. Bonjour Mister Yogi

Thanks for the read, as always, and keep up the damn fine work.

    Happy Sunday all.

    Tally ho.

  27. you can mock my posts all you like. but i just say what should be done, and what mr wenger and arsenal players wish were done, not what can be done. you must see that english players and press and hold the team back. walcot example, he is sub standard, everyone knows this but he gets played because he is english. eboue is three times the right winger walcot is and eboue just gets stick. unfair and irritating

  28. Joe: great post, and I certainly agree about AA. I know I wasn’t the only one at the stadium watching his debut first half performance and thinking, even at this early stage, there was a clear messi-like quality to his turns and driving runs. There’s definitely something special there, as HRH Brady points out.

Danny: great post, as well, and I share your pain and wonderment at your Petit pondering. Those two together were head and shoulders above any pairing I’ve ever seen live.

    What if…

  29. Good news… Heskey is out for England (and Aston Villa) with a hamstring injury.

  30. chase….vive le resistance!!

  31. Chase – surely no-one is knocking your posts..

  32. Or mocking, even.

  33. I have to say this thing about Flamini warming the bench at Milan…… it’s just amazing; one website says it & then everyone just assumes it’s true.
It isn’t. There are very few in the Milan squad who’ve started more games than him this season.
I think it’s just wishful thinking from Gooners still upset at his departure……

  34. I’ve just had a quick look on Wikipedia. Appearances are not listed for every Milan player, but most of the ones who are listed have played more than Flamini. David Beckham, who only arrived in January, has already made 12 appearances, only three short of Flamini’s total of 15. I also think that many of Flamini’s appearances have been as a substitute. I can therefore confirm that Flamini’s main role at Milan has been as a bench warmer.

  35. PD,

The truth is in the middle. It’s not like he’s always on the bench, but he’s definitely not a regular. Seedorf, Pirlo, Kaka have had as many games as he’s had. And Beckham who only got there in January has had almost as many starts as he’s had.

    Luke,

I think that’s good news for Aston Villa not bad.

  36. What is it with these people? Where do they come from? I think Yogi must have a ‘Random Idiot Generator’ installed on his blog to ensure that for every fool that we see off, another is generated.

He’s afraid that we’ll get bored during these football free times and wander off to the Dark dide.

Very kind of him to give us people to abuse but really, we can just take the p*ss out of each other if we need too.

Good to see the usual sense from Flint again.
By the way Flint, have just found a picture of the Met. Police band marching in 1980. Perhaps if the police have a problem with a new marching band as suggested a few days ago (by Blackstock?), we could get them back. Surely no objections there. Great half time entertainment and crowd pleasing. As long as he keeps throwing the baton.

  37. Joe,

I swear, when I saw Arshavin at the Euros, I also felt like he was Pele in full pomp. Every thing he did came off. He just seemed unstoppable. He was everywhere, doing everything.

I had already seen him against Rangers where the same was the case.

Arshavin seems a top talent. And if anyone can get the best out of him, it’s Monsieur Wenger.

I really hope he doesn’t get too much hype until he’s actually proven himself in the Premier League. And he seems very mature, so that’s very likely.

On who we let go and who we didn’t; I personally prefer not to dwell on it.

It boils down to complete belief in Wenger’s judgement. He’s unique as a manager who doesn’t sacrifice the good of the club to his own ego, the short term for the long term, and principles for praise. So any mistakes he makes are honest mistakes, and most probably unavoidable. For me a good decision is the best of choices available when the decision had to be made. If hindsight makes it look wrong, one will be comforted with the knowledge that the best choice had been taken when the decision had to be made.

I’m the worst of the AKB. And in my mind, justifiably because he really does know.

  38. Poliziano, you might want to check something more reliable than Wikipedia before you decide to ‘confirm’ something.
Flamini has made 21 starts & 7 appearances as a sub. He didn’t get in the team at the start of season & was then dropped for a few games when Beckham arrived in Jan but is now back in. In between he’s been pretty much a starter when fit.

  39. Chase – You are a moron. Arsenal have one regular English player in the squad who is improving in leaps and bounds. Without restarting the anti Eboue brigade Walcott is a far superior attacking player.

  40. It’s difficult to know all the facts regarding players leaving. Petit is a prime example, Arsenal published a joint transfer for Petit and Overmars for £30 million, however I heard that Petit had been causing problems in the dressing room and Wenger wanted him out and the transfer was waited £25 million for Overmars and the balance for Petit. This is backed up by an interview I saw about 3 months after Petit left where he claimed he never wanted to leave while looking like he was about to bust into tears.

All we can really say is that Wenger get’s it right a lot more often than he get’s it wrong.

  41. Ole,

Nice post. Why it is so hard, for others to take a grown up outlook, I have no idea!

The Arshavin of the Euro’s was absolutely sublime, on the run, splitting defences with either timed passes or nimble footwork. It is a testament to his quality that he has settled into such a unique League.

I can understand the Messi comparisons, but I would liken him more to Pavel Nedved at the height of his game. Both strong off either foot, with a rifling strike. Cunning operators, physically far stronger than their diminutive frames would indicate.

Maybe Arshavin is a little cuter than Nedved was and by that I do not mean his boyish looks.

  42. no marc, walcot is awful and runs into walls. eboue may have a agument but he’s twice the talent of walcot. walcot is only in the team because hes english. he cannot even get in a mediocre england team. he is not an arsenal player and i hope he leaves to an english club soon where he’ll fit better. he isnt happy

  43. PD

you might want to check something more reliable than your source of wisdom as far as Flamini’s appearance stats is concerned:

    You’re saying Flamoney made 21 starts & 7 appearances as a sub.

In fact he made 15 starts and 6 sub appearance, playing a total of 1339 mins in the league. In terms of playing time, he is only on 13th in all Milan players.

    http://touchline.onthespot.co.uk/guardian/StatsCentre.asp?CTID=13&CPID=19&TEID=29&pStr=Squad_Stats&t=4

  44. For me, Flamini is forgotten.

    Who bloody cares!

  45. Chase – Walcott is first choice right winger for England. He wasn’t picked because he is INJURED.

  46. rubbish marc. he is not as good as beckham, lennon or wright philllips and now would not get anywhere near the team even against those average players. he is not arsenal he belongs elsewhere with hoyte

  47. Chase.

    Funny guy!

  48. ggs & PD,

You’re both correct, but just measuring different things. PD has included Flamini’s 6 UEFA Cup starts, in addition to his 5 Serie A starts.

What PD is wrong about is that Flamini is a regular. He’s not a bench warmer but he’s not a regular, certainly not as regular as he was for Arsenal last season.

  49. One thing I admire about Wenger is his ability to rid himself of players at the right time. Ferguson does we’ll in this area too. A unified dressing room is more important than any one player. It’s something we had last year which has been undermined by a couple of players ranting this year. Suffice to say they are no longer with us.

Brown & Wenger – Peas in a pod.

In response to anyone who begrudges Walcott a place in the team. Your cheese has clearly slid off your cracker.

  50. 15 Serie A stats, I meant to write. Not 5, 15.

  51. Chase – Beckham is not first choice for England and will certainly not be able to play every game in an international tournament. SWP is still under going regular surgery to remove the splinter’s from his arse he picked up at Chelsea and Lennon has only shown a bit of form over the last month or so.

You do not know what you are talking about. Please check you facts before commenting.

  52. Ruisliptiger – You’ve put me in a difficult position – agreeing with you re: Walcott and arranging a padded cell re: Breakdown and Wenger peas in a pod comment.

    Good grief!

  53. The one sided Arsenal love in regarding the whole incident that night kind of drove me to defend my team regardless of the facts. There’s a lot not to like about Arsenal. However, there’s a lot to admire as well.

I was a little disgusted with what was said about my team. However, I have to concur that a lot of tripe was written about Arsenal aswell.

This Article gets across what I’m trying to say.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/146898-cesc-spitter-fabregas-raving-rafa-rolling-ronaldo-whinger-wenger

“This does not mean that I like you” Cool Runnings – 1993

  54. marc i believe walcott to be bad, you belive walcot to be good. maybe bcause you are english? if you are not english then i apologise. mr wenge does not want english

  55. Where are you from Chase ?

  56. Walcott is a promising kid with phenomenal pace. He’s also a very good squad player to have…

  57. Is someone with such bad spelling and grammar really worth addressing?

    Mushrooms in onion gravy.

  58. Question Aclefers:

Do you think the England squad would win the Premier League?

  59. i am of african origin and live in southern france. maybe walcott is a ok squad player we would be better of selling him for much much more then he is worth and then letting mr wenger bring in a young player with talent whos more suited to arsenal football club

  60. Ole,

Yes, they would get away with all sorts!!

  61. Yes, I’d say they look like they’d be giving the top 5 a good run at the moment. However, given time to gel as a team like the rest of them have had. They would be battling it out for top spot.

I’m going off the premise that there would be two Gerrards ,Rooneys, Coles etc. If not they’d walk it.

  62. I have to admit, probably like a lot of Arsenal fans, that the whole England thing is fundamentally depressing, a massive turn off. The reason – overhyped expectation followed by crap performances where we are outclassed by so called international teams that we should “easily beat”.

About 15 year ago, mabe longer, I can remember Uruguay visiting Wembly, and it was a draw, perhaps a 1-1. The subsequent phone in was full of outraged england fans, who had demanded a 5-0 thrashing and paid no respect whatsoever to the quality of the opposition, who had one south american footballer of the year in the team. The arrogance that we should be beating any opposition is somewhat at odds with our lack of technique and strength in depth.

We have 7 or 8 top top class internationals. Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Walcott, Ferdinand, Joe/Ashley Cole and John Terry. Beyond that, who have we got ? We were horribly embarassed against Spain and without Copello we would be nowhere. Wenger is probably doing more to promote english players than the FA. It’s a sorry mess.

  63. Chase,

    You haven’t got a clue.

  64. Chase,

How many hat-tricks have lennon and wright phillips scored for England.

  65. Chase – You need to move to London. You have a very lucrative career as a journalist awaiting you!

  66. Lovely insight there Flint (wouldn’t be your first).

I have to say i concur with the view that AW has for the most part made the best decisions @ specific times. Time usually does tell.

Flamini will rue his exit from us in time. Truth is its not in the number of starts but more in how well he fits into Milan’s style of play. Arsenal suited his style completely. Gattuso in his heyday had a younger Pirlo, Ambrosini, Maldini, Sheva & Seerdorf plus a pre-injured all-world Kaka by his side .

But hey, u left ARSENAL for the BIGGER club, monsieur! F**k off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chase, pls pls do some research on previous commentary here mate.

Then take some time out to decide if ACLF is the right blog for you. Your nationalistic rhetoric is gnawing foolishly at the expired cheese reserved for the less endowed.

A bit more RAM might help but I fear your processors just won’t cut it.

    ie, F**k Off Chase!!!!!!!!!!!!

  67. algerian-gooner

    fu**ck of chase

  68. Ruisliptiger – I don’t understand how you can take a defensive attitude towards Hull. Before the cup game no Arsenal supporters were slagging off Hull in fact when you beat us at the Emirates you received a very good reaction both at the end of the game and afterwards. The Hull management started this with what are appearing more and more like either unfounded allegations or the mutterings of a mad man. You now claim that big bad Arsenal fan’s are having a go at poor little defenseless Hull.

Imagine how you would feel if Wenger had made false claims about Hull players trying to get them a lengthy suspension in the process?

Imagine if these claims got one of your best players suspended and you were relegated because of this? (We’re at the opposite end of the table and still chasing cups).

I can understand how you feel to go out to such a debatable goal but we’ve had more than our fair share of bad decisions. This is no excuse to make up lies and slander our Captain.

  69. Someone get the men in white coats for this Chase fellah.

  70. @Danny/OG -
Interesting that when Manuel A. was asked which Arsenal player had the strongest shot, in practice etc., he mentioned both Arsha and, less surprisingly, Robin.

  71. surely there are people out there who agree walcot is over rated

  72. yes Chase…they are called Spuds.

  73. But even the spuds know deep down that Walcott is better then that Aaron runs like a duck lennon.

  74. eboue is better, much better and more arsenal

  75. Ruisliptiger,

You’re “going off the premise they is two Gerrards, Rooneys, Coles etc, otherwise they’d walk it.”

    Hmmmm.

    Pre-Arshavin maybe!

But we could cope without our English players and I would now fancy us to give them a fight.

However, the dirty foreigner tag and the English passion perception, would probably see them che….ahem…beat us.

In fairness, Ferdinand, Terry, Gerrard offer something, but England do not have the flair of an Arshavin, Fabregas or Van Persie!

  76. Chase – If Arsenal put Walcott up for sale at £10 million and Eboue up for sale at £5 million. Walcott would be sold first.

How do you know what it takes to make someone more Arsenal?

  77. because mr wenger has an unspoken connection and agenda which certain fans pick up on and others do not. platini is trying to ruin it but will not suceed

  78. A very pleasurable blog today with a variety of comments that are well thought through.

  79. Danny – I’m not so sure. Last night’s performance might be getting get reviews but from what I saw they were bloody awful.

I still maintain that all of England’s top players have foreign quality around them to bring the best out of them. Whenever you put England against a quality foreign team they look very ordinary.

  80. Marc – I’ve already been through what I think and got nowhere. I’m sure you’d struggle getting yours view acknowledged on a City Forum. The view you have expressed just then is a very one sided one and maybe you should seek a clearer view. I have and feel better for it.

Phil Brown’s rants were ill advised and made him look stupid. It is over stepping the mark though to suggest he’s a terrible manager who’s lost his marbles.

Something must have gone on in that tunnel, we just need to wait for the facts to present themselves.

I’ve never heard anyone ask for a lengthy suspension.

There is no proof that these allegations are lies.

I have never complained once about the goal. These thing happen and it is not the fault of Arsenal. However, Mr Wenger did seem to have difficulty acknowledging his good fortune.

I’m not saying Big Bad Arsenal Fans are picking on Hull. It’s just me being outflanked on here, which it perfectly understandable.

The first point I first came on here with was Arsene Wenger’s lack of class after a game. Some of which has been disproved. He is on occasion not very gracious after a match and fails to give the opposition enough credit. Often due to them being unable to match his free flowing style of play. I still feel this is the case but I felt it a little stronger after the game, which I’m sure you can understand.

  81. Chase – I’m the last person to want Platini’s plan to succed but you are just wrong about Eboue. He is our 4th choice right winger. If you want to argue that Nasri or Rosicky (when fit) should play in front of Walcott some will agree, some will disagree but Eboue – for fuck sake.

  82. ruisliptiger dont say thing like that about mr wenger you fool

  83. I hear plenty of negativity about Eboue from alot of people. Where do you all feel his natural level is? Spurs? Hull City? West Ham?

  84. Eboue’s level is at the Arsenal. only pr*cks cant see he is a quality player.

  85. ruislip tiger you support a stupid team so please dont comment on mr wengrs arsenal you have no right. you love dean windass

  86. Why do you people even bother responding to people like CHASE?

  87. Dean Windass is an idiot. But yes, I’d let him bum me.

  88. Ruisliptiger – Wenger is a bad loser. You don’t have to like it, that is what partly makes him successful.

You need to look at the events to see why I’m taking the view that until evidence its produced to show otherwise the allegations are false.

    i) Phil Brown (I’ll revert to Breakdown in my next post) has repeatedly changed his story. In a court of law this would make him an unreliable witness and call any other claims into question.

ii) Brown claimed that Wenger also refused to shake his hand after the previous league matches. This has proven to be false.

iii) Claiming that Cesc clothes were not suitable. What? Your getting desperate!

iv) In a BBC interview a few days later Brown questioned whether he had actually made some of those claims.

I genuinely think that Brown completely lost the plot during the interview after the match, hence the memory loss. As I’ve said crappy goal to go out on but blame the ref, blame the linesman. Why not make the spitting claim in private and wait for the outcome. As for not asking for a suspension. What do you think that the FA are going to do if Cesc were to be found guilty? Send him a letter, he’s not bloody Rooney.

  89. Ateeb – I’m looking for an argument and I thought I’d pick an easy one but I forgot you can’t convince a moron.

  90. Chase, are you Deano in disguise?

  91. ruislip tiger that is funny.

i think Ateeb would let him bum him as well. ha ha ha ha very good ruislip tiger

  92. Chase

Did you get your name from your hobby of chasing parked cars?

  93. seems unfar to let people say bad things about someone else they dont even know and then not let the person answer back

  94. Flint McCullough

    Exactly Mark.

Phil Brown has done exceptionally well, as have the Hull City club, over recent seasons.

They have let themselves down in this matter though & have lost the goodwill they gained from their excellent performance at New Highbury, in the PL.

It was a matter that ‘grown ups’ sort out in private. If, & I mean if, there was something to complain about with Cesc’s behaviour, it should have been sorted out manager to manager, or chairman to chairman.

The media are now trying to give Cesc a reputation that, on past performance, he has not deserved. Nobody is saying he is perfect & he has done some silly things as all 17-21 year olds are prone to do. He, in fact, has been remarkably mature for his age.

That is something that cannot be said of Brian Horton on that particular night. I was a few rows directly behind him. AW never gets the licence he had from the officials then.

What riles us is the media slant on Wenger, misinterpreting him on every turn. He is a bad loser & he doesn’t like it when the other team kicks us off the park, eg Stoke & Blackburn (but not Hull).

Most of us get to see the full press conferences, so hear exactly what he says & not the bullshit headlines that the likes of Ruisliptiger & any other supporter of any other club love to lap up.

  95. Dave bleuz you watch blue movies with men in them like your name suggests?

  96. Ruisliptiger,

What’s the polite way to say f**k off. We’ve humoured you enough. How dare you accuse Wenger of lacking class when your odious manager crapped on the entirety of Arsenal with no basis whatsoever and Wenger has not directed one single derogatory statement at Hull?

You seem to have forgotten that a loss was in any case what you deserved from a game in which you had 2 shots on target to our 17, your team cleared off the line a few times, had a lucky deflected goal and simply had no chance of winning.

  97. hull should play the game so we can etertain the crowd. yes they will get beaten but we are arsenal and deserve it. hull blackburn, bolton, stoke have no business playing us anyway and should play the game so crowd gets pleases with our magic. they defend, boring. they should attack so w can thrash them like they deserve to be thrashed

  98. Marc – Phil Brown (Tabloid style nicknames are the Devils work.) did lose the plot after the match and said some things he must regret. I think this shows inexperience on his part. A more experienced manager would have turned down the interview and gone away to calm down before passing comment. This is not the first instance of managers ranting after a game. None come away with much credit. There probably is a little back peddling going on. The fact remains though that despite being give chances to sweep it under the carpet, he still insists something went on. I believe him.

I agree successful people are generally bad losers. Though a lot of his disrespectful comments come after wins as well. Wenger just needs to put a little more effort into hiding it though.

I can’t say I’m fully informed on the shaking hands situation. I have heard though that this shaking hands evidence was actually them doing it before games. I personally don’t know.

The point you make about the BBC interview proves my point about the original interview.

How Cesc dresses is a matter for him and his employers. However, I wouldn’t be happy with a member of our squad strutting about the pitch after a game, in anything other than a suit, or Club training gear.

Regarding the suspension. If found guilty don’t you think he deserves one? IF mind. What would you expect if someone spat at you. At the least I would expect a genuine, heart felt apology.

I really am tired of talking about this. Can I stop now please?

  99. Flint – My opinion comes from watching post match interviews. I fully understand than newspapers like to add their own slant on things.

  100. Ruisliptiger,

    Please do.

    Face it!

Your Manager and Assistant Manager, have behaved like over-grown Children. Horton’s constant commentary and touchline position is not suitable for an Assistant Manager.

It was not suitable for Phil Thompson, so Benitez and Liverpool displayed suitable class and got rid.

When you visit grounds in the Premiership, you ought not be intimidated but at least behave like Gentleman.

Both Horton and Brown acted like attention seekers and completely took the gloss of what was a brave display by Hull’s players.

Players get involved in ugly incidents, tunnels around the country have seen plenty of them. Players and Club officials alike, correctly aim to keep these from the public eye, which is often why you get some some stewards account of the action.

Phil Brown broke many unsaid rules in the professional game when he attempted to get a fellow professional in trouble.

If Fabregas spat at the feet of Horton as claimed by your middle-aged plenty old enough Manager. Is it not likely, considering the constant goading of our Manager, that your Manager and Assistant Manager were involved in some act of provocation?

It is bad enough they have behaved with so little class as to have an embarrassing war of words with a twenty year old, that they visited one of the biggest clubs in the country and then acted like coaches of a pub team, but then to run and want to tell Mummy once, they got anything back for their behaviour. That is utterly pathetic.

Hull may not be the biggest club in the county but they are bigger than that, and you and all your fans know it!

Accepting two old men, acting like drunken morons is accepting your club is without class and completely insignificant in the grand scheme.

  101. Flint McCullough

    Yeh !

15 – 20 second snipets cut how the BBC et al want it.

You clearly like the media slants, hence the links to stupidity that you have produced today, RT.

We are all going to support our own on this one. If Cesc had spat at his face he should get a short suspension from the prats at the FA, if he spat on Horton’s shoe, deliberately or inadvertently he should apologise, anything else it should be Horton & Brown apologising to AFC for being so trivial.

Brown should also apologise for not waiting to shake AW’s hand before going off to show his “respect” for the referee. (That c##t got an international yesterday, amazing).

If you don’t want to talk about it, why seek it out?

  102. huh,,?

  103. Ruisliptiger,

so what did you expect AW to say? Would that have made you feel any better?

I tell you what nothing would have changed. If Arsene really felt it was unjust he would have done what he did in 1999, when he offered Sheffield United a replay of their FA Cup 4th round game immediately after the match had finished, due to the controversial circumstances in which it was won.
Arsene wouldn’t say anything just to please the press or the opposition. His interview after the game was his way of stating that Arsenal thoroughly deserved to win this match. If you’re confident in your abilities you don’t need any false compliments or pity. On that FA Cup night you didn’t deserve any.

Arsenal, AW and Arsenal fans have shown their respect to Hull throughout this season and even before when the Arsenal let you use Colneys training ground for your promotion bid. Why are these actions so easily forgotten and weigh nothing against the absence of some silly words you crave to hear?

  104. I asked a Question earlier on where you all think Eboue’s ideal level is, only one responded. Do you all think Arsenal is his natural level, or should he find himself a nice UEFA Cup team. I’m sure he could do a job for Hull but we probably couldn’t afford him.

    Cheese & Onion Pasty.

  105. More than happy to have Eboue at the club. He’s a superb squad player to have.

  106. Eboue is excellent at right back, an unharnessed talent at right midfield, a stroppy teenager at refs and surely simply hillarious as a team-mate.

Got to keep him, has ability and GSOH, looking for love! Shame about the fans!

  107. Is there no Hull blog for you to share your veiws on ruisliptiger??
This is a Arsenal blog, and while i dont mind you dropping in to comment after the arsenal hull game, it was a few weeks back now, or sure does feel like it. Time to move on!
Chase !!! please go away. Walcot is going to be a arsenal legend, Eboue apart from scoring the winning goal in the CL final , will not do much at Arsenal,, And i have a funny feeling he is going to( score the wining goal. I know im going mad,,!

  108. Ruisliptiger – Sorry I won’t let this go because Hull have made serious claims. If Breakdown (I didn’t get it from the tabloids but from this site and till proved otherwise it’s quite fitting) was wrong why did your Chairman claim that an apology from Arsenal might, yes might be enough to settle the issue. You missed the deadline from the FA for the evidence and statements regarding the claim. Sow the whirlwind – reap the whirlwind. You’ve dug a bloody great hole and now want a way out. A word of advice stop digging.

What about the claims of racist comments from Hull staff against Cesc?

As a previous comment states Hull are undoing all of the goodwill they had built up.

What do you think is going to happen if Hull stay up and have to play Arsenal next season? Arsenal player’s will be out to prove a point. At best you’ll get thrashed. More likely you’ll resort to kicking lumps out of us and then blaming us for your player’s getting booked.

  109. Like I say GJ. I’m seeking out new perspectives. What better way to do that then to hang around here. I want to know what it’s like through your eyes. I’d go to a few games but tickets are sparse and it’s blummin expensive anyroad.

  110. I’m seeking out new perspectives.

How about the perspective of common sense?

  111. I’ve given my opinions Marc. You seem to want me to speak for the club itself now, I can’t.

And I know where the name came from. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s tabloidesque and not called for in serious conversation.

That Walcott fella, he’s good isn’t he.

I’m looking forward to Eduardo being fully fit. I reckon he can take Arsenal into Championship contention.

  112. davebluez – I think your being a little overly optimistic there!

  113. Another tolerant display by you people today. Hats off for your willingness to debate with RT but the man should not be here.

Sorry RT, you sound like a fan of your club and good luck to you but please go away. Your management has let you down. Deal with that, not carry on with the sour grapes that makes you look foolish.

Our opinion of Eboue? None of your business.

    Bye Bye.

  114. Looking for a new club to support RT? Go home, there’s a good fan.

  115. Bl**dy ‘ell.

I come on here and make a few very mild points about our striped visitor and get put in moderation. Meanwhile, he spouts rubbish all day.

Where is the justice? Where is the FA enquiry when you need one?

  116. Ruisliptiger – What I want is an apology from Brown and the Hull board.

We cannot allow this sort of episode in the game, I’m sure you love as much as I do.

I will accept that I probably bite a little to easily but you should understand that Arsenal are criticised so widely that nearly all Arsenal fan’s get fed up with it and a little over reaction is the result.

Up to a few weeks ago Hull were respected and carrying the best wishes of a lot of people. Do not blame me, Cesc, Arsenal or Arsenal fans in general for what has happened.

As for Walcott, he is still young and learning but given time he is going to be a hell of a player. If Eduardo had not sustained that horrible injury last season I honestly think we would have won the title and Eduardo would be getting the same plaudits as Torres.

  117. moderation?

  118. Consolsbob – How’s life?

  119. Ruisliptiger – I’d rather not!

  120. If Hull’s management is talking cobblers then of course they should apologize.

  121. Ruisliptiger,

so all of a sudden you despise tabloids.

Was it not you who put a link to this News of the world article about Cesc?

  122. What is this moderation you talk of consolsbob?

  123. Ruisliptiger,

    Reality….

Your ever so intelligent gaffer, went with the “they don’t like it up em”, “let’s make it ugly” theory. Built himself and his assistant up into a frenzy of goading and provocation.

Duly angered, when your efforts were eclipsed, we were probably a bit spiteful with it!

Horton and Brown, with adrenaline pumping, having planned to get right to the edge of acceptable behaviour, inspired further by a sense of injustice at the fatal deciding goal, proceed to continue further over that line.

20 year old Arsenal Captain having watched helplessly from behind the dugout, as his manager, is totally disrespected by the opposition coaches, upon the final whistle proceeds to enter the fray and vent his anger.

What followed was a nigh on certainty! People defend their own.

Should Wenger shake hands…should he f%ck!

  124. notlager – It was put up as link in another place I frequent, I read it and thought of you lot. I thought you might want to read it. I was interested to see if anyone on here could shed some light on it. Having read a previous blog entry (yesterdays I think), I appears your ahead of the game.

  125. Life is good Marc. Very good.

  126. Danny – That wasn’t far from the truth, give or take a few things.

  127. Ruisliptiger,

Horton and Brown look more than capable of filthy expletives to follow their antagonising!

Have we run off to the media to quote what they said?

    No we have not!

  128. Maybe you should

  129. No maybe we shouldn’t!

Clubs of our stature don’t act like that!

  130. Ruisliptiger – It’s been shown already that many of Brown’s (I’ll try to be reasonable) comment’s were at best unfounded. At what point do you, other Hull fan’s or the Hull board admit the possibility of guilt or wrong doing. Your problem is that the longer this goes on the more stupid you will look when the truth comes out.

This is why Hull are desperately trying to find a way out.

I believe that the FA’s new deadline is tomorrow. It will be interesting to see what happens.

  131. Through all this you have been hopelessly attracted to our club.

If I was a Hull fan, with moron and moron as my management I too would pine.

  132. Unless Hull City have been understating what did happen in the tunnel, they’re creating a lot of trouble for themselves. “He spat at my assistant manager’s feet” is not just hearsay it’s unprovable. And they’re asking the FA to break a lot of precedence by sanctioning people for events in the tunnel. They’d better be able to prove it.

  133. There’s definitely a possibility. I just feel that there must be something in it.

surely this unspoken code that means of your “stature” don’t behave like this is wrong if it allows grown men to behave like teenagers. I know I wouldn’t be allowed to disrespect the employee’s of a rival just after clocking off. Why should they be allowed to get away with it.

I’m talking about all clubs not just this one single incident.

“Stature”. What does this mean exactly?

  134. Breaking News

Steven Spielberg spotted at Hull. He’ll be working all night, trying to meet the deadline, to complete a video of Cesc spitting at the assistant managers feet. His crew of special effects has also arrived. However rift remains between Brown and Spielberg, as Speilberg just cannot stop himself from adding a little alien in the tunnel, just behind Cesc. Also Cesc will be riding a flying bike to go with his clothes. Will the FA buy this video evidence?

  135. Boiled Beef & Cabbage

  136. Classic Ateeb.

There will be also time to put in the scene of “PB Phone Home”. This will show footage of the wireless headset Brown was wearing in the stands:

Brown: Eh up, by gum, our tactic of parking the tractor in front of goal is not working. ‘Tis time to phone home and get back on the tractor up the A1.

Horton: aye gaffer, we’ll need a miracle or summat.

  137. Ruisliptiger – Do you feel that there must be something in it because your manger would never make up such a ridiculous claim?

Well I feel that Cesc would never do such a revolting thing without severe provocation and then having realized that he made a mistake deny that he did it.

Your problem is that Hull given the opportunity to provide the FA with statements failed. Given the opportunity to say ” we’ve provided the FA with statements and we will not comment any more on the subject until the FA reach a conclusion” claim that Hull will accept an Arsenal apology.

Arsenal’s line – same as all along.

    Stop digging!

  138. Time will tell, hopefully.

I must say though. And this may be because you’ve been in the Premiership longer. Your experience in dealing with unsavoury incidents should stand you in good stead.

  139. Ruisliptiger – What? Another unfounded allegation. That’s like saying a multiple murderer has more chance of getting off because he’s more familiar with the legal system.

If Cesc is guilty he should be punished.

Maybe your manager’s inexperience at the top level caused him to him to lose the plot.

If the claims prove to be unfounded what punishment do you think Hull should receive?

  140. Spielberg has hired an actor who is said to be the spitting image of Fabregas.

  141. kolo and eboue played 90 min for cote d`ivoir 5/0 win against malawi.

  142. ENOUGH!!!!

Davebluez good one about the parked cars.
From suggesting the Arsenal move to Europe to knocking Theo, then trying to get ‘onside’ by knocking, of all people, paper tiger.

Atleast one sees who is worth reading, which is pretty much everyone today (special mention to Cbob, Marc and Flint, the male Passenal).

Yogi, either no-one has posted for a very long time, or you have gone on holiday!

  143. Great – But have they come through unscathed?

  144. I have already said something similar regard our managers inexperience.

If the claim is proved unfounded then Hull should be given the same punishment as they’d receive in a civil court. Likewise Cesc. Probably a fine and community service i.e. Some work with the respect campaign or similar.

What allegation? I’m merely saying that your experience in dealing with these situations in the past will help you. It is nothing like multiple murderers, that comparison is just silly. It is more like appealing a parking ticket. If you’ve dealt with it before you are more likely to know the system.

  145. Holiday.. fair enough..we all need one after some of the comments (two owls – funny..) today.

The point about not talking about Cesc’s non-incident is that it becomes a, forgive the cliche, a “no smoke without fire” thing, and the longer it’s talked about, the more cemented it becomes.

  146. Ponyboy – Cheers! It’s nice to be acknowledged.

Does anyone have any news about injuries and Arsenal player’s who have been involved in games this weekend?

I hate international weeks, it’s just like waiting for bad news.

  147. Ruisliptiger – It’s nothing like appealing a parking ticket. Our captain and best player, having been injured for the last 3 months could now face a ban of 3 – ? matches. Just as we are going into a critical part of the season. An FA cup semi final, CL qtr final and ensuring qualification for next season’s CL. You want civil court punishment. What if Arsenal were to fail to qualify for the CL because Cesc was suspended? This would cost Arsenal £20 – 30 million. Could Hull even manage to be responsible for this drop in income? You need to wake up and understand that Arsenal exist in a different universe.

You were on the end of a shitty line call. This does not excuse Hull’s behaviour.

  148. hull should be relegated and the players should be whipped or there behaviour

the european league will save arsenal and save football, it will be the dream of all arsenal fans

  149. This has nothing to do with the shitty line call.

If Cesc is innocent then how would Hull become responsible for all that? He would be available. If he is guilty then it’s not our problem.

I’m confused as to how you managed to come to the conclusions in your last pararaph.

  150. Chase. Which team do you really support?

  151. Chase – It won’t happen. At least for a long time. You need to understand that while Arsenal have supporter’s all over the world (And most welcome they are). Arsenal’s home is London and a season without playing West Ham, Spud’s, Chelsea, Charlton, QPR or even Leyton Orient wouldn’t feel right. You need to experience the local feel of being a Gooner.

  152. what do you mean. you support a silly club who couldnt hang onto the windass. whats the point of playing if you lost the windass. why do you bother your kit makes me feel giddy

  153. It’s unlikely that Phil Breakdown would have invented the spitting lie if the disputed line call had not happened.

  154. marc you dont know what new arsenal is about or striving for. you still do not understand whats in front your face and eyes

  155. if fabgregas spit on him then good. i hope he got him in the face. i would spit on the whole of hull if i new where it was

  156. Surely the man-eater is not suggesting that Breakdown would bear false witness for no reason.

  157. Ruisliptiger – Because in my opinion Hull have gone around this in a completely unacceptable manor. As I’ve already stated if Cesc is guilty then fair play but Hull and more persifically Brown have undermined your case from minute 1.

If what Brown stated was true why the change of story. If Cesc is innocent then Hull are guilty by making a false allegation. You earlier mentioned civil court. Do you think it would be acceptable for someone to make false criminal allegation if the accused could face a prison sentence?

  158. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHH!!

A Hull ‘fan’ who likes Arsenal so much he stays here, and an imbecile who has finally found the oxygen of attention.
And not a drop to drink….

  159. Hull don’t have a manor at all. They live in a shack.

  160. Damn, your right Chase. What have I been doing with my life. I really should be supporting a decent team. Never mind tradition, loyalty and a sense of community. Why don’t we just have a franchise system where each team plays in a different place each year. OOOO I hope Ruislip can attract a decent team like Barcelona. That would be nice. Hull could have Dagenham & Redbridge playing at the KC. Just to remind them of their roots. Arsenal could go and play in Brazil, spread the beautiful game about. I sure you wouldn’t mind the extra travelling expenses.

  161. Chase – I earlier called you a moron. This was obviously incorrect. You are a cunt! How dare you.

Have you even seen Arsenal in the flesh?

  162. hull are guilty as sin. they disrespect a player who they are lucky to see. they should be celebrating and respecting mr fabregas. he can spit at them if he wants they are hull

  163. My last comment to Chase is in moderation.

Night all, I will see you tomorrow.

  164. Ponyboy – if we ignore them they will go away as they are only here for the attention. I haven’t even bothered to read their ramblings, never mind about responding to them!

  165. Hull do not have a manor, but Ruislip do. Hull has some lovely parkland, affordable housing, and an excellent line in quality traditional boozers where you can still get a good pint of Ale for under £2. You can actually talk to strangers without getting glared at on the public transport too. Once Google Street Maps is up and running there I’ll give you a tour.

  166. What is this moderation?

  167. If you lot stop talking about it then I will. I’m not here for attention. I’m rather astonished how a differing opinion has been met with such a reaction. You are officially adopted as my pet top four club forum. Now lets stop talking about City and focus on Arsenal. I expect a CL Final from you at the very least.

    Up The Gooners.

  168. ruislip tiger what you say about hull is no true. its a town with one shop and no roads. mr fabregas probably owns hull and cant sell it.

werent you in the top four for a long time. what happened you must annoyed with your manager and windass

  169. Chase is not who he says he is.

  170. ole gunner is not who he says he is

  171. I think that is obvious Ole Gunner!

  172. Why are there so many mentalists around at the moment?

  173. Flint McCullough

Passenal, my female side, how are you?

  174. i think people from hull are generally mentalists. except windass

  175. It seems to me that mentalists are evenly distributed throughout the world.

  176. mainly in hull

  177. Yep, Passenal – it usually works; but one of us always begins to froth at the mouth.
    a) not reading the nonsense…b) referring to them in the 3rd person and c) when all else fails, waiting for Yogi to get hungover and pissed off.

Poliziano is a danger though..he likes the pot to bubble and stew….
btw: still grin when i see an advert for The Damned United. :-)

  178. Hi Flint, I’m very flattered to be considered your female counterpart and I am very well this evening – counting the days now until Arsenal are back and hoping that our momentum will not have been disrupted by the internationals!

  179. I see you can’t take a hint, Chase.

  180. I know what you mean Ponyboy, especially when other ‘entertainment’ is not available, but resistance strengthens the will power!

  181. Why cant you guys stop responding to CHASE and others like him. WHY WHY WHY? LOL.

  182. Shevchenko speaks out about Arse Shaving:

“It seems to me that Arshavin will achieve great success at Arsenal. They are the only side in the English Premier League that always avoid playing the traditional English style of football.

“I would have been surprised if Arshavin had not established himself at Arsenal with ease, because he was born to play at this club.

“To my mind, Andrei was right to move to Arsenal rather than Barcelona, especially taking into consideration the fact that Arsene Wenger had been watching his performances for a long time before bringing him in.”

    Yep.

  183. This coming from a player who wrecked his career by making the biggest mistake of moving to Chelsea. LoL. No offence, lets hope he is right. Not hope, we know he’s right.

  184. Aspiring Pheonix

Morning all ACLFers. Just 5 days before we see our beloved Arsenal again.

  185. California Gooner

Almost everyone on the board today thinks Arshivin is top-drawer and many of you knew that when you saw him at the Euros (as did I). However, there were a lot of doubters about while negotiations with Zenit were ongoing back in January; many who felt that he wouldn’t make it in England. I think that even Arsene has been somewhat surprised at just how good he is. I guess there is a reluctance on the part of insiders to believe that all that quality was basically missed until Arshivin popped onto center-stage in June.

  186. Ateeb, I think it’s Shevchenko’s experience with Chelsea that helps him to be able to make that comment

  187. Moderation. Botheration.

Whatever happenned to free speech? To the spirit of an unwritten constitution? To a man’s right to tell a persistent ‘ull fan to go back where he belongs?

Oh, my England, my England! Lost!

  188. Consolsbob,

Maybe stop swearing so much. You have a potty mouth

  189. Aspiring Pheonix

Arsebloger reveals a copy of the letter Hull are sending to The FA. Most Illuminating.
