Media Go Mad For ‘Gobgate’,

The media must have been dreading this week on Monday morning. What would they fill their back pages with? No Champions League, no Premier League, one Quarter Final tie in a devalued competition that looked a home banker. Not any more. Simply because one bug-eyed rant after the match is being blown out of all proportion. Now we have the print and the world of YouTube exposing, well, absolutely nothing.

Cesc is being hung, drawn and quartered by the rags on the basis of a grainy image from the Champions League a few seasons back, leaning over Ballack and giving him grief. According to the world outside of Arsenal, you can clearly see that Ballack’s head moves ‘more than would be expected from someone being shouted out’. So Cesc, you are guilty.

Slight flaw in their rationale though. On the clip in question, you cannot actually see anything emerging from Fabregas’ mouth other than the bollocking he is handing out to the German. The rest is supposition. Not that it matters because in the media land, flawed analysis is king. It does not matter in Brown-land either. According to the visitors manager, Hull City are ‘well aware of the video’, suggesting that they will be using this as evidence that Fabregas is a ‘gobber’.

It is becoming incredibly bizarre. Brown blew up in a BBC interview, accusing his interrogator of questioning his integrity. Apparently, as Brown ‘witnessed’ the incident we should accept that it took place. No doubt about it. Of course, that the Hull manager launched a rant so wild and fundamentally inaccurate after the game, a seeming stream of (un)conscious thought that would have left Kevin Keegan embarrassed, escapes Brown’s notice.

Problematically for Brown, his assertions of the incident taking place cannot be proved; no credible witnesses, no CCTV in the tunnel area – he is now firm in his belief that it happened there – so basically, no-one other than Hull City players and officials saw anything which leaves us with an unseemly playground spat in the media that is nothing more than a pantomime “Oh yes he did, oh no he didn’t”.

Equally, to my mind, the accuser and victim both lack credibility. Brown for reasons already covered, Horton for similar for a similar style when he managed clubs. The Hull duo could quite easily pass as inmates in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. My memories of Horton are always of a man seeking to blame others for his team’s failings when put under the stress of being interviewed by Motty or Bazza for Match of the Day all those years ago. The only equivalent for the two commentating stalwarts when they turned interviewers that I can think of is the description of Geoffrey Howe, being criticised by him was akin to ‘being savaged by a dead sheep’.

For the media, it is a God-send. Having disposed of one Arsenal captain – in their minds at least – they scent the blood of another, especially when the one they are ‘after’ now is one of the game’s current stars. Further fuel to fire is added by Fabregas giving an exclusive interview to The Sun, published this morning. In an industry that is perpetually in a circulation war, exclusivity to one equates to vilification by the majority.

No doubt this will blow over once the weekend passes and Benitez or Ferguson steps into the limelight with an equally unhinged rant following a poor result. It may soon disappear with a whimper once the FA have strutted their funky stuff through the disciplinary process only for it to re-ignite should there be a case deemed to answer. That is something that Hull may well be keen to avoid. At the moment, Fabregas is accused on innuendo; no-one has yet been provided with the answer as to what Horton said to provoke the reaction that is claimed. Given that this is a player who has lumps kicked off him in just about every club match he plays without reacting, provocation would have to be extreme. A case where the accuser may yet become the accused.

  1. Fuck the media, we are the Arsenal.

  2. Apparently Phil Brown is most angry about Arsenal fans’ treatment of keeper Myaz Boahill. He said,

“Don’t the Arsenal fans realise how sensitive Myaz is? Myaz has been completely destroyed. Luckily I got big Sam to say a few nice words to Myaz, which improved things.”

  3. I think this bol*ocks will go down as the tipping point when Brown’s career fell away and Cesc’s soared to even greater heights.
If I was Hull City’s chairman, I would be seriously thinking of sacking Brown sometime soon.

  4. Hull’s chairman claims that Arsenal stewards witnessed “an event” that took place in the tunnel.

They’d better prove this one! If they don’t Arsenal FC should very ruthlessly go after them.

  5. we shall fight them in the streets and on the rooftops. Let every Arsenal boy and girl know that we shall stand firmly and defend our own!

  6. Who misses me a little bit?

  7. As long as you fight with us arse21…welcome to the party…

but i have a question, where have you been?

  8. I wouldnt be too sure on that mingus, Hulls chairman has been all over skysports news declaring his backing for Brown and Horton, their tactics, their accusations and their ‘we was robbed, arsenal fands are not allowed to boo the refs decisions or hulls players timewasting……..etc

All this to deflect from another loss and a season falling away after such a promising start! Hull fans wont blame them when they go down, it will be Arsenals/the refs/apposition fans/saliva fault!

  9. Yogi,

I bet you miss me a little bit. Go on, admit it. I did make you smile a few times didnt I?

Phil Brown is struggling aint he, clutching at straws, you cant blame him he’s just shitting himself

  10. Spave Gunner,

    White hart lane

  11. Arse21…digging a tunnel under it and placing rat traps on their seats i hope

  12. All our targets this season go through Chelsea.

We’d probably have to beat Chelsea 3 times between now and the end of the season.

Beating them in the league will determine if we get one of the 3 automatic spots for the Champions League.

Beating them takes us to the FA Cup final.

And we could be drawn with them in the CL.

No wonder Hiddink was at the Ems on Tuesday.

  13. As long as you fight with us arse21…welcome to the party…

but i have a question, where have you been?

The other day Arse21 revealed himself as BlogHead, a sad sp*rs fan who spends all day craving attention from Arsenal supporters on the net. Ignore him like he doesn’t exist and he will go away.

  14. Space Gunner,

No I was there supporting Spurs

  15. Blackstock,

    You love me really

  16. One newspaper has said that Horton called Cesc an arrogant Spanish *****
    this word is not clear.

Hull have embarrassed themselves we should really ad salt to the wound by laughing it off and not giving it credibility. Brown claims to have seen it take place in two different places.

    COME ON THE GUNNERS

  17. The stuff about not shaking hands appear to be untrue -check out Arseblog!

  18. listened to the BBC interview with Miss Derbyshire, it was hillarious..Brown said the ref and officials had gone back into their lockers and so did wenger and most of the Arsenal players and staffs,so when asked who else witnessed the spitting incident (if it even happened) Brown quickly jumped and said “good question, how do i answer you?” when asked further if it happened in the tunnel, surely there must be witnesses..he retorted “are you questioning my integrity?”
poor old phil your integrity is indeed in doubt..

  19. brdgunner,

The word is not clear because you wrote ***** instead of it.

    Please tell us the word.

  20. Brian Whoreson will find proving the allegations an up-phil task.

  21. kiss my arse arse21….i hope you fall into one of the rusty pipes under the white shit lane…end of you mentioning my name again.

  22. If he’s found to be a liar, he will be admitted into the footballing Hull of Shame

    - and Brown will be admitted into the nearest mental asylum.

  23. Crab cake, what did you say to Butcher Brown and Hairy Horton to upset them like this?

  24. Zimpaul,

I told them Fabregas gobbed on them when they werent looking, they took it hook, line and sinker

  25. This incident is going to leave a stain, a Brown stain, on Hull City’s reputation.

  26. Space Gunner,

    I love you too

  27. This country’s media has gone to the dogs.

Arse21….you are like the annoying honk outside my window…surely you cant be that desperate for attention. Are you lonely?

  28. DeiseGooner, I still wouldn’t be surprised if sooner or later, he was sacked. If you were a Hull City player and your manager has acted like he has this season, (the centre circle half-time talk included) would you seriously have much respect for him? I know I wouldn’t. And eventually, this will filter through to the chairman, who will do the honourable thing. It would be for the manager’s own good, in the long run.

  29. Poliziano,

And a stain on Hortons shoes, apparently Fabregas has just finnished his second Milky Way before he spat.

  30. Space Gunner,

Yes, I am lonely, will you comfort me Space Gunner

  31. mingus,

Brown a dead man walking, he’s raised there expecatations and they’ve been atrocious the second half of the season. He’s made sub weird tactical choices as well. He’ll be gone even if they stay up I reckon, probably replaced by Alan Curbishly, Mourihno or Scolari

  32. no, i wont comfort you, Arse21

maybe you can phone phil brown and request to share a mental asylum with him. You two will make great roommates

  33. Yogi seems to be rather accomodating of trolls on the blog.

  34. The Independent seems to have cataloged all the main points, except that awkward bit where Brown said that Wenger never shook his hand after the loss last year (photos have since shown that he did), and where he denied on 5 radio that he had made a silly remark about this incident showing what sort of club Arsenal is (the interview shows that he did).

If it existed, one assumes they would have left out mention of footage showing that he might be lying about the spitting incident, too.

    But here’s an interesting question.

According to Brown, Horton and another geezer went ahead into the tunnel and waited for Cesc. Isn’t there something a bit wrong with Horton, who seemed remarkably aggressive toward Wenger on the sideline the whole match, going ahead up the tunnel to head Fabregas off and create a confrontation?

Nothing wrong with that in anyone’s estimation?

  35. It’s the Fill-it-Brown and Whory-Scrotum show

    roll up … roll up

The funniest show in the land.

  36. Ballack also admitted after ‘that incident’, that Fabregas DID NOT spit at him.

Phil ‘Toxic Tan’ Brown is a big girls blouse.

  37. Le Bob at 10:21 am said “Sensible things emerging from the Times, at least.” Are you kidding me? The Times has been as sensationalist as most of the other rags. The only difference is they have been playing two sides of the coin, with alternative stories, obviously aimed at stirring readers from either side of the fence. There is no serious effort at seeking the truth and putting this side show to bed.
Worst of all, their chief football correspondent, one Sam Wallace, has written a piece on Cesc that is filled with innuendos and half-truths, that only bug-eyed Phil Brown could exceed.

  38. They tell jokes and play in a spittle band …
    ho ho ho

They wear spitoons on their head

What a double act … the shame of ‘ull shity
    One’s a clown and t’other looks like a convict
    what a show!!!
They are really scary … and funny and have integrity … and they manage a great, great football team … it’s all too much

Uh oh, oh shit, oh spit, here come the lunatic doctors to put them away ha ha … what a show

    Wonderful … wonderful … applause … what theatre … vaudeville …

  39. Frank's biggest fan

    http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/fivelive/606/606_20090318-2259b.mp3

Worth a listen. Brilliant reaction by few Arsenal fans.

  40. Ole

Not as tolerant as some would believe…

    YW

  41. News just in:

Brian Horton has now alleged that Arsenal club captain Cesc Fabregas also thumbed his nose at him in the tunnel after the controversial F.A. Cup tie on Tuesday. The F.A. has released a statement saying it takes all reports of nose thumbing very seriously, and that it will carry out a thorough investigation. Meanwhile, a video has emerged that seems to show Fabregas thumbing his nose at an opposition player in a League game two seasons ago. Although Fabregas’s face is not visible in the video, the movement of his victim’s head, according to experts, suggests that nose thumbing may have taken place.

  42. this footage from the Emirates tunnel clearly shows Phil Brown provoking Cesc Fabregas.

  43. Its Fabre-gate

  44. hope hull is relegated…they are full of shit

  45. I haven’t had an opportunity to read all the posts so my apologies if somebody has written this already.

Throughout the 2nd half Phil Brown & that odious c*nt Horton were gesturing to Arsenal hands behing the bench. Basically, insighting a reaction from them.

Is this not against the rules? If so, how do we go about reporting it?

  46. meant to say ‘fans, not ‘hands’… hung over again…

  47. twotouchmiracle

has ballack denied being spat at? awesome! is there an article or a link or something?

  48. Fab shoulkd have the book thrown at him…..its a disgrace……there must be a law against it.
“5 game ban demanded for being dressed in a disturbing manner”
“Officer, arrest him now he gesticulated with his thumb.

  49. Brown is just digging a grave for himself now. He clearly has selective amnesia. The Times today shows Wenger and Brown graciously shaking hands after the first game at the Emirates. First lie. Today Brown denies calling Arsenal cheats and the crowd and Wenger influencing the referee. Second lie. It goes on. I think Brown is the one suffering from Arsenal getting under his skin and not the other way round. He should be ashamed. No brain. No class and going down. Anyway if Cesc had gobbed at Horton he would have hit him in the face.

  50. i’ve got a feeling the hand shakes in the pictures took place before kick off, not after… that said, its not in the rules that managers need to shake hands after matches, so why they’re even talking about it is beyond me… i doubt every player on each side shakes each others hands after the match either…

  51. Daily Noose: Breaking news: Third witness turns up in ‘Gobgate’

Phil Brown has won a moral victory after it emerged that a third impartial witness was ready to testify against Cesc Fabregas at a FA hearing. The third witness, Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was present as a witness via a web camera fitted in Phil Brown’s remarkable blue tooth earpiece.

Phil Brown, wearing a smug smile and a rat fur jacket commented : ” I am aware that my earpiece makes me look quite like a t*t but today thanks to this earpiece, Hull City has been vindicated and a media inquest into my managerial failures has been avoided.”

  52. John Terry gobbed on Tevez’s neck in the CL final (it was sly but the camera’s clearly picked it up), but no one made this much of a bruh-ha-ha about that.

    Where the parity??

    Neck to shoe (if that)?

  53. Cesc Fabregob.

I’m sorry to say this lads but opposing teams are gonna have a field day with this.

I tell you what though, Fabregas is the spit of wee willy winkle.

    (see what I did there?)

  54. Hahaha…just listed to the post-match interview with Brown on the BBC podcast. That man is off his rocker!!! What a tosser. I love it. Quality my a$$. And whoever that idiot Hull fan posting on here yesterday was, Wenger clearly says to the BBC “full credit to Hull.” He praises their efforts multiple times in that match. So, a cheat Hull manager and a cheat Hull fan…is this a coincidence? I think not! F%$king wankers. They are going down…nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey, goodbye.

  55. How clever, Blockhead. Your wit is exceeded only by the amount of free time on your hands.

  56. ….the whole affair is just another opportunity to demonstrate the class of AW, the players and the club compared to other teams….brown and horton look pathetic now and their players are going to leave in droves at the end of the season……Cesc Fabregas emerges as a player feared by other managers…the press and media have been shown up as the joke they are…..the team will be stronger as a result of rallying around the club captain……and it gets better…..we are in the semi-fianl of the FA Cup…and even better…yet again the Spuds fans have demonstrated their fear of our club and their utter desperation by spending all their time on our blogsites….what a fantastic two days

  57. …he wasn’t a Hull fan, Gris Gris

  58. Alex,

Come on, let me have my cheap laughs, I support spurs for gods sake

  59. Cesc: “I don’t even know who the assistant manager of Hull is or what he looks like.”

    Hahahahaha

  60. Frank,

I love you frank, you’re completely insane and dont even realise it.

  61. Gris gris,

    he wasnt a hull fan

  62. One question,

Would you rather your captain wear a suit on matchdays? I wouldnt care but its given people ammo hasnt it.

He did look like a theif though didnt he

  63. “Would you rather your captain wear a suit on matchdays? I wouldnt care but its given people ammo hasnt it.”
What the heck does it matter, what he was wearing? For landsakes i think a guy is free to wear what he likes within reason! Not like he was naked or something!

  64. For once I will answer the troll with a proper response:

Yes, all players on matchday whether involved in the fixture or not, should be required to wear club blazer and tie.

Why? Because they are representing Arsenal FC and should be properly attired.

    YW

  65. …insight is an important parameter when confirming or setting aside a diagnosis of psychosis….

  66. What I hate about the media is that the standards they use in the sporting pages will be completely acceptable in any part of the paper.

    They’re scum.

  67. Yogi,

And itd stop idiots like me saying silly things to there supporters

  68. …well I would go further…I believe that all supporters should wear club blazer and tie on matchdays…and preferably have quifs….and the girls well…they er they should wear…er….girls clothes…I know frocks…the girls should wear Arsenal frocks….below the knee…..the hem I mean…..

  69. Frank,

Sure sounded like one to me but that’s ok, he was still a complete booby.

  70. Frank,

    Bikinis !!!!!

  71. ….no beat generation clothes please…this is a respectable club….

  72. Hello Arse21 ! SO pleased to see you again…

  73. F#ck off Blog Head!!

  74. Ponyboy,

Hello!!! I was just checking in to let you know I was alright in case you were wrorried

  75. This is a bit off topic but just have to say that I watched ‘Slumdof Millionaire’ last night and its the best film i’ve senn for about 10 years.

    Well worth a look

  76. Brown charged for Newcastle fracas… good that he’s in the FA’s bad books:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hull_city/7952942.stm

  77. Great news, rev.

He now has an FA record and a bad reputation.

  78. Am always a bit worried about you, Blog Head… welcome to use my ‘username’ if you like..
    anytime! :-)

  79. Good morning/afternoon all!

Its is totally ridiculous (thanks PZ) for Fab’s clothing to be metioned by Brown, What does that have to do with it? As a man who likes to dress a bit, I didnt think Cesc was sharp enough, but thats all the problem I have. I would prefer wear what Cecs had on everday and be respectable rather than “look” the part of a respectable person and act like a clown as Mr. Brown has. Clothing such as blazers and suits do not make a classy person.

Cesc looked like a theif, did he? did Bernard Madoff look like one?

  80. Anyway, can we please kill Newcastle saturday by at least 3 goals?

    God Bless!!

  81. Our friend Joey Barton looks like he’ll be playing.. more fun and frolics ahead..

  82. Barton…………. now theres a wanker

  83. GO GO GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  84. I mean into the Chamionship. LOL ;P

  85. Frank's biggest fan

Barton is still injured. I think their defence especially Coloccini could be had.

  86. Hope so, fbf – just saw it on the same BBC thing as Brown getting fined.

Man, am i sick and tired of that creature.

  87. Barton, I thought he was a crip or was it a blood?

  88. Funny piece in the Mail today, I know, I know, but I was in a caff eating a bacon sarnie, by their Chief Football Correspondent, Matt Lawson.

He spends two pages telling us what a dissapointment Cesc is and how he has a problem with respect, citing, kid you not, Ballack, Hughes and Old Red Nose. He then says that the perverse nature of the FA means that it will be Brown up on a charge rather than the evil Cesc. He then tells us that even if Cesc is innocent, that he should grow up. Note the slide from allegation to assumption of guilt to possible innocence to the need to show contrition for what he has not doen.

The funniest bit was when he told us that Cesc had wound up the Hull players so much that they had to be restrained from assaulting him! Presumably assaulting anothe player is only acceptable during a match.

    What do we expect?

We are The Arsenal. We do it all ourselves, by ourselves.

  89. 3 Arsenal players in French squad, but no room for Flamini

  90. consolsbob

It’s kind of like last year all over again – Eduardo, I mean. Any excuse to hate on Arsenal. That’s what is so hurtful – it feels like journalists have been storing up hatred and resentment and this is their excuse to pour out their sanctimonious bile…for what? What has Arsenal done? Why Cesc, of all people? Is it pure xenophobia?

  91. 5 players, actually, Luke.

  92. Fungunner, u spoke/wrote the words in my mind!

AW, said after the Birmingham game last year that everyone will ignore the tackle & vilify Gallas – the captain then. Now in a similar situation, Almunia’s ankle luckily survived a similar tackle which has happily been ignored already & the focus is on vilifying the current captain!

  93. Fungunner,

Trust me, every team thinks they get the worst press coverage, and every team that does silly things gets roasted, (execpt man u in the sun obviously).

When piers morgan was editor of the mirror, he openly admits favouring arsenal in his book and constanly slamming spurs, you didnt complain then did you?

Appart from Man U getting special treatment from the sun, all teams get treated the same, but the fact is that Arsenal and Tottenham tend to do some really stupid things, come on, admit it, we do.

  94. I found one comment of the Brown Stain quite funny. He said about Cesc “I wouldnt have that kid at my football club.”

Like any member (no pun intended) of his squad is fit to tie Cesc’s shoelaces or walk his dog.

  95. Alex,

I dont know, they are pretty fit. They could definitly do the dog walking part.

  96. Alex Ice Cream

This is all a f***ing joke with the ManU loving media using any excuse to bash us.

They have absolutely no evidence of anything but its open season on Arsenal as usual. People are even trawling through Youtube to find videos of another non-spitting incident involving Michael Ballak. I was at that game and at the time no allegations of spitting were made.

This witchhunt is completely consistent with previous houndings of Arsenal by the media. The “Handbags at Old Trafford” is another example when some jostling resulted in Arsenal receiving a collective 10 match ban.

In 1991 Arsenal were even docked 2 points for a brawl at Old Trafford – which Brian Mcclair of United sparked off and the ensuing press focused on Arsenal’s misbehaviour of course.

These people are utter c***s. Why is an alleged spitting incident being looked at more than a potential leg-breaking tackle by Diouf on Almunia.

I blame Allardyce and Fat Sam Lite – Fool Clown- for this and the media for using any excuse to destabilise us now that we are showing some form.

I would rather Hull and Blackburn went down than Sperz.

I hope that we can use the siege mentality to propel us to winning something this season and to shove these words back down their bluetooth headsets. In the previous seasons with the ManU fracases we won the League. We won’t do that this year but still have 2 trophies to play for.

    COME ON ARSENAL!!!

Oh and for you North Bank Gooners in 1991:

You can stick your fu**ing 2 point up your ar5e!

  97. That’s the stuff AIC. We won then. We will win again.

  98. Alex Ice Cream

    Luke,

It serves Flamini right for leaving. He waited for 3 years to get regular football and after getting that he is now back on the bench – along with Hleb who is now complaining that he doesn’t play and wants to move.

I say let’s try to get them both back for free, offer to pay then the minimum wage of £5.70 an hour and give them a 100% guarantee that they can continue their bench-warming development at the Emirates.

  99. Yeah Blog Head I suppose they could do the dog walking part. They could fit Cesc’s dog with Brown’s headset which by the way has an amazing GPS system so that it doesnt get accidently lost.

  100. There's Only One Phil Brown

Sir Purple Nose has to be delighted with the media taking the spotlight off Vidic and his overall shiteness.

  101. The point is, we HAVEN’T done anything bad.

There is something very strange and twisted about the media’s attitude to Arsenal.

Firstly, despite all the allegations coming from Hull, the media are portraying it as Cesc or Arsene starting a spat or a feud, not Brown and Horton.

Secondly, the media are treating Brown & Horton’s allegations as proven fact, and making Cesc out to be some sort of thug.

There is a sense of long-nursed hatreds and grievances coming out, which is very unsettling.

    ****
siva, what you say is true, but what I meant was that all the sympathy was directed towards Taylor. Wenger’s outburst, which he retracted, was the excuse for everyone to cast Taylor as the victim and bring up ancient history about Arsenal’s disciplinary record.

  102. Alex IC and Fungunner

Every time a gunner leaves us for money, they leave behind little goodwill. Flamini and Hleb are among this category. I don’t wish them bad, but I do monitor how they are doing. Unlike Arsenal greats like Pires and Vierra who moved on, they always have my best wishes and respect. Decent gunners deserve respect and a warm reception whenever they return to play against us.

FG – I counted wrong and you’re right. There are Sagna, Clichy, Diaby, Gallas and Nasri. Ex gunners Henry, Anelka. Diarra is not counted as an ex gunner as he is a mercernary at heart.

  103. FG

One media site even cropped the picture with Fabregas and Fagan in it that suggests that Fabregas was showing aggression towards Fagan, while the larger uncropped picture shows that Fabregas was facing in another direction, not Fagan directly.

  104. Does the “media conspiracy” really exist? I don’t think so. They are not anti-Arsenal or anti-anyone, they are simply anti-intelligence. There can’t be a conspiracy or an agenda because that would mean the media would have to be intelligent in the first place to organise it. It’s a ridiculous assumption that there is a pro-Man U or anti-Arsenal agenda. Who organises this agenda? Where do they meet? Who is their leader? How do you join them? What is their ultimate motive? It’s bizarre. I just think it all comes down to journalists being lazy. To actually sit down and write a well-thought-out balanced article requires a lot more time and braincells than to simply reprint the same old over-sensationalised garbage. Not only does stupidity save time but it sells more too, that’s why when you turn on BBC 5 Live, you are listening to thousands of people who have simply bought lots of stupidity, and believed all of it.

You can follow the sports press like a restaurant menu and pick whatever you choose to believe, whether you’re an Arsenal fan or a Spurs fan, you’ll find something vitriolic and stupid to agree or disagree with. No intelligence is required, there’s no need to use your brain, everything is laid out nice and simple for you.

  105. Alex Ice Cream

    Luke,

I don’t wish any ex-players bad apart from Cashley. They all had their reasons for leaving (or were sold) whether valid in my opinion or not.

Don’t get me started on Pires….

  106. The Hatchet man over at the daily ”we hate foreigners” mail is a complete PLONKER.

  107. The Hatchet Man will fall onto his own hatchet one day.

  108. F**k Hleb!
    F**k Flamini!

Both had THE opportunity to become legends by playing, growing 7 learning from the GREATEST manager & club in World Club football today but they gave it up because they’re 2 whiny punks who lack BALLS!!!!!!!
They SO disappointed me & a lot of RASERS

This irritatingly meaningless Hull episode needs to just go away…there are a couple of trophies that need to be won.

IN 5 days all the doubters will claim to be believers and AW their God………..
    oh yeah, FUUUUCCCCCCK OFF Arse21!!!!!!

  109. Please confirm this. Is Hull not the club who benefitted from London Colney training facilities prior to their qualification into the premier league?

I mean, I read somewhere that they trained at he Colney complex when they were preparing for the qualifying games last season. True? If true they’re a bunch of ungrateful lots.

  110. Alex Ice Cream

    Blackstock,

I disagree completely. If your arguments were correct then the media would be equally biased or lazy irrespective of who the club is. I simply do not believe that this is true. It doesn’t take much intelligence to have an anti-Arsenal bias at all. Most of the newspapers and media are controlled by a few people like Murdoch.

How easy would it be for him or one of his minions to instruct the “journos” to have a bias against a particular club.

When Diouf was at Liverpool he actually spat at Celtic fans and there was an outcry but Cesc has not been seen doing anything so why the abuse. The levels of media attention were similar at best but the difference was that Cesc has not been shown to have done anything.

  111. I am not gonna be biased here, Hleb and Flam thought the grass was greener on the other side and have gotten a rude awakening but I hated how Patrick Vieira left the club! Yes he is a legend but was it nice to have play the “will he stay” or “will he go” game every season. I HATED IT!

Pires and Gilberto are two whom you cannot say anything about! pure class!!

I hope I dont get cursed out!

  112. Blactstock, do you see the same amount of negative things coming out as far as Man U is concerned? It is a given that many people dont like that fact that Arsenal has played so many foriegners and yes racism does exist. Another thing is you wil always find faviritism, it is life, Man U is obviously England favorite team so why would they try to discredit them?

You do remember the ex ref, whoever his name is saying that they would not give the English captain a red card so easily.

I agree there is an Anti-Arsenal thing going on for whatever reason.

  113. sorry for my many typos!

  114. Hleb and Flamini can both get fxxk , glad they arnt finding the greener grass that was never there,,, in fact how about a Arsenal Barcelona CL final,, 2 /1 to Arsenal Eboue scoring the first Nasri (hlebs replacement) scoring the winner what about that,, fantasy i know but id be stoked.

  115. No Paul N, u are right about Pires, Gilberto & Vieira. In hindsight I’m glad Vieira left when he did..AFTER he had achieved LEGENDARY status!

PV like Henry they did his thing correctly but by virtue of their ages* & short-sightedness opted to cash in with “bigger” clubs. Old school thinking..but hey how many people imagined Obama as US president?

I choose to focus MOSTLY on those that wear the Arsenal jersey presently.

The future looks good and I’m betting will surpass the past!

    AW KNOWS
    He’s a RASER 4 LIFE!

  116. “I choose to focus MOSTLY on those that wear the Arsenal jersey presently.”.

    Me too Aman!

    Greatness is upon us!

  117. I just got back home from work and I didn’t expect to see this whole thing about Cesc ALLEGEDLY spitting at what’s-his-name is reaching the boiling point.
Anyway, I posted something about Cesc-spitting-Ballack late last night and I feel I shouldn’t have done it – I’m so sorry…I saw a lot of papers picking on that thingy and was just trying to make light of it, not realising the seriousness of the accusations and media coverage. I’m so sorry…

The team will unite even stronger, not be distracted, through this ridiculous accusations. Right?

  118. @ Blackstock

Speaking for myself, I was not talking about a conspiracy. It just seems to me that there is something about Arsenal that uniquely annoys or angers the press. We all know they love a fracas and they need to sell papers, but it’s as if there is a pre-existing, underlying resentment about AFC in particular which is tapped into now and again and causes them to go beyond the usual mischief-making (which most clubs suffer) into a sort of self-righteous frenzy.

With Gallas, they exaggerated, but there was something there. Their behaviour and attitude now is perverse.

  119. “The team will unite even stronger, not be distracted, through this ridiculous accusations. Right?”

    Absolutely right, ToughCookie.

  120. Can someone confirm this:

Did Arsenal allow Hull to use their training facilities as they prepared for their Championship Play Off?

If they did, i wonder if Phil Brown remembered that when in his accusation he inferred Arsenal FC were all about spitting.

  121. that is correct, jac – and previously, Wenger made time to advise Phil Brown when he was starting out in management.

  122. Oh man I totally forgot!!

You can’t pick it up in English, but Cesc has quite a speech impediment when he talks in Spanish. Ballack never mentioned that he was spat at in that CL tie a few years ago but in that Youtube video he seems to react suddenly when Cesc is in his face. So it seems very likely that he flinched because a close-range verbal tirade from Cesc is probably accompanied by a certain amount of spittle.

    Possible explanation. Perhaps.

  123. Brown Hole showed that he is a weak character just like some English managers coming up from the lower leagues. He can’t handle the pressure of Hull’s free fall in the PL, and knows that time may be running out to stay up.

Instead of putting his head down and trying to figure a way out of the free fall, he will blame everything and every one else for the problem engaging in lies and false petty accusations.

Either that, or he thinks that he is a great manager and should have credibility let’s say as much as Wenger….and in this case, I would tell him…

My not-friend, you’re not only a weak character, but a stupid one as well. Go curl in Fat Sam’s lap, and cry on his shoulder (Don’t forget to take the earpiece off first).

  124. …watching the mental disintegration of a football manager is not amusing and is hardly the sport of a civilised society…..Setanta started this with their baiting…the others in the press and media followed….sadly for them AW, Cesc and the rest of the club are more than strong enough to deal with this…..Phil Brown is not…..these people are beneath contempt……truth means nothing…..and the personal integrity of individuals means less….their only goal is to serve their masters in order to make money….it will need at least one or two of them to be found swinging from a f*cking lamppost before anything will change….or if not that one or two publicly hung out to dry….but even then the rest of them will pick over the bodies to see if there is any money to be made….the maggots of our society….and they call it journalism…don’t make me f*cking laugh….next time you meet one….well… make his/her life as unpleasant as possible…..

  125. …are you serious, OOU?….

  126. I am absolutely fuming over the article that Oliver Brown has written in the Telegraph. It is a complete character assassination. Some of the more ridiculous snipes are as follow.

“Allegations of diving and disrespect have stalked him ever since he joined the club five and a half years ago”

“With his pop-idol looks, clean living and aversion to alcohol, Fabregas has commonly been depicted as the boy and girl would be proud to introduce to her parents. But on this form he appeared the bloke whom any sane person would strive to avoid on a dark night”

Is this guy fucking serious, I know the popular view is that Cesc was wrong to point out to Mark Hughes that he is a prick but what allegations of diving?

And as to trying to avoid him on a dark night, for fuck sake. You never hear about Cesc’s off field conduct but look at the England squad who are untouchable. Gerrard’s waiting for a court appearance, Rooney sleeps with prostitutes, Ferdinand has served an 8 month ban for failing to comply with anti doping rules, G Neville tried to organise a walk out of the England team when Ferdinand was banned for above, Lampard indulges in homemade porn videos, Ashley Cole has just been arrested for being drunk and disorderly and that’s just what springs to mind. These are written off as boy’s will be boy’s.

I know that I shouldn’t get so wound up but this sort of media bile influences ref’s. What happen’s if during the FA cup semi Cesc is taken down in the area but a penalty is not given because he has a reputation for diving (When no such reputation exists).

It’s about time that the club employs someone to deal with the media. I’m beginning to think that Fergie’s attitude to the media isn’t that wrong.

  127. Why is my previous comment in moderation Yogi?

  128. Frank, sort of.

I’ve just spent the last 10 minutes trying to find an ad that was a bit of a joke in Spain because Cesc has trouble trying to pronounce a few words… to no avail.

  129. Apparently we have CCVT in parts of the tunnel and it has picked up someone calling Cesc “an arrogant Spanish ****”. Is this not racist? If they had called Song “an arrogant black ****” this would be seen a racist. What’s the difference?

  130. I don’t think there was any spitting on Bollack. Sometimes, when you’re mad, unconsciously you can swing your head to deliver the word you want to delver forcefully. I think that’s what Fabregas did with Bollack, and you can say because Bollack is a tw*t and a coward he thought Fabregas was going to spit on him so he turned his head in that quick reaction..

Every one concentrates on Fabregas and forgets that the older guy (Bollack) who is suppose to be an example for the younger guy (Cesc) acted like he was shot dead by Cesc’s tackle prior to this whole thing.

  131. did you guys see this video from Shetanta?

    Click on my name

  132. ENOUGH OF BROWN!!!!
Change the topic of the debate.

  133. Marc

Nothing more sinister than you tripped the spam filter with a particular phrase. And no, it wasn’t the cursing either, Mr Sweary Head.

    YW

  134. Yogi – Wouldn’t want to offend anyone – Well no one on here anyway – Was just curious!

  135. G4E – This was part of my point the other day. Brown has had to change his story because anything that happened on the pitch was filmed. He is banking on the fact that there will be no film of anything that happened in the tunnel, the FA then say that it’s one word against another and there’s nothing they can do. Brown then gets to walk away having made what is clearly a false allegation. Meanhile Cesc has already been found guilty by the press.

  136. No one here! Did Ateeb & I finally achieve being invisible?

    Just kidding :)

  137. …ffs, YW….calling him a f*cking sweary head is a bit much….

  138. Alex Ice Cream

    Al,

Its not a speech impediment, its the accent.

Apparently a King of Spain (not Ashley Giles) in years gone by had a lisp and people copied it as it was cool to speak like the king.

Either way the “thhh” sound is part of the Spanish accent.

  139. …Brown walks away with his reputation in tatters…he clearly can’t cope….Cesc comes on scores a goal on his return…we win 5-0 …we win the FA Cup and CL…..Cesc is a hero…the press and media look like pr*cks as usual……there can only be one winner here….Arsenal…

  140. I think the best thing to do now, is like Wenger insisting on in his conference which is football.

Let’s ignore them, not give them the clicks…and go back to supporting our team….and of course honoring our Captain’s return.

He will answer them on the pitch for sure.

  141. Frank – You should hear what my Mum calls me!

  142. …pity the King of Spain did not have a terrible limp and Tourette’s to boot….Spain would have been quite an amusing place to visit….

  143. If Hull survive can you imagine the reaction of the players and fans when they come to the Emirates next season.

  144. “ENOUGH OF BROWN!!!!
Change the topic of the debate.”

Amen to that! Have people forgotten how ‘the battle of old trafford’ inspired the team that became the invincibles? These people are doing Arsene’s job of motivating the players for him.

  145. @Tough Cookie -
Yes. guilty too..didn’t even know about the incident. Man, really want to lay this to rest, but it looks like Ballack is simply freaking out at being called a **** by a 17 year old. What a wuss.
And quite why Cesc had to apologize for saying “That’s not the Barcelona way of playing football” to Mark Hughes… (actually one of the more decent people around now).
Good point Howard. AW is too damned NICE ! As is Cesc, infact.
    Madness.

  146. Yep, last word on the whole thing, Passenal.

  147. Well, Passenal, I have been waiting for the really big implication of this story to dawn on we Gunners.

It would seem clear that because of Cesc’s behaviour, Brown has blown his chance of succeeding Arsene.

Kept me awake last night, I can tell you.

Oh, and TC? Don’t sweat it. I don’t give a rat’s arse about a joke. We have serious fish to fry.

  148. Beside Cesc spit is probably like fire…if he spits on Horton he would be burned….It must be humiliating for Horton to live another day to claim he was spit on.

Sorry Passenal, I will zip it now (My mouth that is) :)

  149. “ENOUGH OF BROWN!!!!
Change the topic of the debate.”

I don’t see how we can just ignore the most important sporting event of the decade.

  150. The earlier point by Blackstock and the media.
I think he is right. The theory doesn’t preclude an anti Arsenal agenda.

We have always been envied and therefore a target for cheap shots. The script for each club is different. Our label is easy to sell. Foreign manager, fancy dans, foreign players, play football, don’t spend a fortune, don’t play the game as it ‘should’ be played.

In an age of supermarket journalism, every club has it’s place on the shelf of news, waiting for the consumer to choose what they want to read. Different product, different story. For our label, it’s easy, stack ‘em high. sell ‘em cheap.

More people hate us as well. Good. Makes winning all the better.

    Arsenal! Arsenal! Arsenal!

  151. Well, just one more (sorry!)… In his list of heinous crimes, the Times [ a paper i used to like ], they quote Mikel Arteta, dismissed for an innocuous looking “elbow” on Fabregas during Arsenal’s 4-1 victory at Goodison Park.

Later M.A said: “I don’t want to blame Fabregas because he was trying to gain an advantage for his team, and that is normal”
    Cool. Now, really will stop.

  152. I really dont think Cesc would do such a thing. What do you guys think?:)

  153. Sick of hearing about Brown. We have a big game on saturday.

A victory could take us 3 points clear of Aston Villa.

  154. Erm, he punched Teddy Sheringham, one of the great legends.. ( stop me..stop me!)

  155. Couldn’t care less if Cesc spat or not personally. He’s a tough boy, but very intelligent, and very willing to do what the situation demands.

  156. In the heat of the moment, I think he might NOT have done it.

  157. hmmm….so newcastle….on saturday……

  158. AIC, I think this is just a Catalan or Barcelona thing with the “th” sound, maybe someone out there can correct me. I thought that if you were from Barcelona you said it “Barthelona” but if you were from elsewhere in Spain, e.g. Madrid, you said “Barcelona.”

Massive game this weekend, again, and the whipping boys will be Newcastle. I love this fixture for some reason. We always seem to play well against them. No Barton, Owen not yet up to match fitness/sharpness, no more Shay Given. Come on you GUNNERS!!

  159. No, Gris Gris, it’s th everywhere.

  160. Arsenal should sue Phil Brown for publicly defaming their and their club captain’s image.

  161. There might be regional variations, but in most of Spain half the alphabet is pronounced th.

  162. We love you Arsenal….We do
    We love you Arsenal….We do
    We love you Cesc……Wee do
    AaaRrrsenal…….We love you

  163. Ok, enough Spanith for the inthane :)

  164. Quite right AIC, the King’s lisp is very strong.

Cesc’s is nothing like that. According to gf, Cesc’s problem is that a lack of practice, or living in England for 6 years, has affected the way he talks a little.

Still can’t find the damn ad!!

  165. Interesting that Cesc went clubbing with Ade and RvP ~ get some unusual friendships! Hopefully the music was loud enough for no-one to have to pretend to understand whatever Ade was saying..

  166. Ponyboy, I don’t think Ade is hard to understand, he just speaks fast, but his English is pretty good and he does not have a particularly strong accent.

  167. Either way, my theory was a bit off.

  168. Fair enough Passenal.. have only ever heard him speak after games, when he’s pumped up. Just nice to know he’s still very much part of the team.

Also, it’s hard to listen when he has such a happy and infectious grin on his face.

  169. Hi there, Big Al. :-)

  170. I’ve watched a few of his interviews on ATVO and he is very ‘enthusiastic’ all the time, but I’ve never had trouble following what he is saying.

By the way – according to the latest Mirror headline on Newsnow, we are now the most unpleasant side in England!

  171. One of Us..
Thanks for not dignifying that with a response. Blame Arse 21..he’s entered me like an incubus.

  172. Hello PB,

You can call me al! hoho

Arse21′s question earlier was funny: “Did you miss me”. What’s it been, 5 days?

  173. I cant believe that the British media is so immature, anything to get some hits, people watching and buy some newspapers I guess.
    What a shameful situation!

Well its seems it Arsenal against the world, well at least England!

  174. OOU – Nice one! Racked my braincell for a while, thinking of a musical riposte; nothing.

Passenal – Feels like for the first time all season, all Arsenal fans are united ( and will never..be divided! Mmm).

Unpleasant ? That’s both ugly and laughable.

  175. Don’t worry Paul N I didn’t give them the satisfaction of clicking on it – life’s too short!

  176. true dat!

Passenal, I am truly in shocked how this allegation has become the news of the day.

It is obvious that the man is a bold faced liar but the negativty towards Cesc and Arsenal persists even though nothing has been proven.

    Embarrassing!

Anyway, its a load of Garbage plus Arsenal always deal with situations like this with the utmost class.

Let take our anger out on Newcastle this weekend!

  177. It’s not us who are suffering I don’t know why some gooners out there still have this victimised mind-state. Cry all you want, but we are the ones winning right now. We’re on top. The press are throwing their toys out the pram, we are laughing at them. Phil Brown has dug himself a hole and must now lie in it. Wouldn’t want to swap positions with him would you. Couldn’t care less about what the journo’s make up, they all snort coke anyway. Arsenal forever, bollocks to the rest. Cesc Fabregas is our mate, he has a red and white army 2 million strong behind him. Make way or the North London enterprise, the N5 mothership is landing. CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK

  178. *make way for

  179. Blackstock, situations like this mar the game of football, its not just about Arsenal, for me atleast.

  180. I dont feel sorry for Arsenal at all!

  181. We will rise above the crap and continue to dismantle any and all team before us!

  182. The true story:

Brainless Whoreson said something naughty to Fabregas. Afraid that his words would be made public, he made up a story about spitting, and told it to Phil Breakdown. Phil, madman that he is, persuaded himself that he actually witnessed the incident, and worked himself up into a froth of indignation. He and Whoreson never predicted the exaggerated reaction of the media. They thought their lie would soon be forgotten. Instead, their bluff has been called. They can either admit the deception now, or make a formal complaint and have the deception exposed later.

  183. http://arsenal-mania.com/articles/3106534/The-handshake.html

looks like Wenger shook his hand from what I can see on this video, blinkin liar!

  184. He is a blinkin liar…he is the one that went missing when he was suppose to meet Wenger half way to shake hands after the game.

The blinkin liar was busy on the pitch trying to find something to complain about and then made up the spitting story.

I think the 60,000 fans should have drowned him in spit…..the stinkin liar.

  185. Paul N and consolsbob – agree.
And Marc, I saw that article, too. Un-be-lievable.

    ****
Anyway, here’s something lovely to occupy our minds. If the U18s win v Watford on Saturday, they have wrapped up the league and will be halfway to a double. They are something like 20 points clear at the top of the table at the moment.

They seem like an exceptional group – and I don’t think there are any players over the age of 17 in that squad. Some of them have been playing together since they were nine.

  186. HALF TIME PHIL BROWN TEAM TALK

Eeh by gum, aye, I’m as ‘appy as a pig in muck, chuffed, cos we’re one up, so wot I want you all do to now is park the bus in front of those flash cockneys. Flippin ‘eck we could be 2 up or summat, if it wern’t for the friggin referee and the jammy southern softies. N’arn I want you to go out there and gizza your all, no faffing around or cack handiness and best y’do that to the best of your ability, I want no bad’uns in the team and we dursn’t fail.

  187. ey Muppet u t’ere luv?

  188. This Be The Verse

He f*cked you up, your former boss.
He didn’t mean to, but he did.
    You shift the blame for every loss;
To save your skin you flip your lid.

But he was f*cked up in his turn,
By men in caps and black waistcoats,
They taught ‘im how to kick – he learned
Dark arts to keep his team afloat.

Man hands on thuggery to man.
Because you swill at Fat Sam’s trough,
No one will care – no Arsenal fans,
When come late-May you fook right off.

  189. That didn’t work out so well. Why isn’t there a delete function?!!

  190. What’s wrong with it, Iofus (ne Big Al)?

  191. Muppet @9:41

    English please?

  192. By the way, Iofus (ne Big Al), I liked your joke about man eating tigers.

  193. AIC @3.09pm

”you can stick your fkg 2 points up your ar5se”

    great memories mate !!

  194. Why thanks, PZ. I’ve got some way to go to match your quips though.

    -

Cos the joke prob could only work with people who went to school in the 90s. People my age always remember that Larkin poem (he was a Hull man) because its got swearwords and its about hating your parents!

  195. I think the opening lines are well known. Having read them, who would go further. As Samuel Johnson says, “When I take up the end of a web, and find it packthread, I do not expect, by looking further, to find embroidery.” It’s the kind of poem I would expect Arse21 to write.

  196. Arsanal Haters and unfortunately some Arsenal fans too they’ve been posting links of a youtube video of Fabregas apparently spitting at Michael Ballack the Media jumped on it and started writing about the video.
I was listening to Philippe Auclair a well known french journalist who contacted Bayen Munich over the incident and they have confirmed that Fabregas did not spit at Michael Ballack so we should put this one to bed. As for Brown the matter will not be put to bed as the FA asking that mob at Hul to explain their accusations and they have nothing to back it up if anything they will get into trouble for making such statements without any evidence. Why the FA should beleive a man with a fake tan?

  197. I never understood the gambling odds and never gamble any way, but can any one please explain what it means when the odds for us to win the CL are:

    15-2.

    What’s the 15 and what’s the 2?

And why others have odds like: 6-1?

  198. You put one pound, they pay you six if you win. You put two pounds, they pay you 15 if you do.

  199. “You put one pound, they pay you six if you win. You put two pounds, they pay you 15 if you do.”

+ your original stake money – tax.

    simples

  200. Thanks NEN & Steve…I get it now mathematically, but what I don’t understand is: does this mean we have better chances in winning than Manure?

  201. I think it’s good thing I don’t gamble :)

  202. G4E

It means our chances are poor as we seem to get a higher return than MANU.

I’m sure they will swallow their words later.

If we beat CHAVSKI as I believe we will, it will be all the way.

  203. Champions league draw today. Yes?

No need to mention H*ll or Br*wn, then.

Today we have an Arsenal agenda. A football agenda.

    Another great day in ArsenalLandWorld.

  204. Barcelona or Man Poo…

  205. Quarters

  206. I’ll take that ts. Have you been reading the tea leaves? Can I put my money on it now?

  207. Saw Fabregas on the train this morning, he was totally emersed in a book.

I think it was one of the James Bond series, by Ian Flemming

  208. The word is ‘immersed’.
