All Roads May Yet Lead To Rome

UEFA Champions League, Round of 16, 2nd Leg
AS Roma 1 – 0 Arsenal

Agg: 1 – 1, Arsenal win 7-6 on penalties

1 – 0 Juan (9)

When is an unbeaten run not an unbeaten run? Did Arsenal win or lose last night. I will set out my stall here and now; the unbeaten run remains. OK, it’s a tenuous and every-so-slightly dodgy logic but do I care? Do I F*ck (Mum, mum, Dad swore on the blog today).

All that mattered at the end of last night was that the Quarter-Final and let’s not forget, the Semi-Final draw, includes a ball which when opened has a slip of paper on it that reads not “AS Roma” but “Arsenal FC“.

Not pretty, unconvincing by recent standards but a test of character that was passed. The received wisdom is that Arsene would have told the players to keep it tight, mark properly and not to concede an early goal in what was a crackling atmosphere. For all of that, he definitely would have said to them, if you do concede, make sure it is no more than one. So keep it tight.

Nerves do a funny thing to people, affecting judgement, performances, etc., but experience helps to overcome them. So what do you do when your most experienced players perform a Gentleman’s Excuse Me and allow a ninth minute aggregate equaliser? Don’t panic. Rely on your ‘troops’ to get you through the tie, believe in their abilities and just rewards will come.

And run their hearts out is exactly what the players did. Both sides did in fact, Roma’s tactics spot on in denying space to the visitors following the 1 – 0 drubbing in the first leg. Arsenal responded with similar energy, plenty of questions asked and answered about their ability to hack out a result.

In games such as these, you know the home side will enjoy vociferous support and every chance will be greeted as if it were a golden opportunity. At moments like those, you need your goalkeeper to have a big game; Almunia did just that, quashing doubters who believed he could provide such a performance. That does not mean he is suddenly ranked in the top three around the world, simply that he is a damn sight better than many give him credit for.

There were faults in the performance collectively, these will no doubt be addressed by Arsene and the players in the build up to the Blackburn game on Saturday. The question that you have to ask is whether or not they matter purely in the context of the Roma match. The answer is no, they do not matter, the result last night was everything and progress was achieved.

A good day to be a Gooner and if you cannot enjoy the morning after the night before, what the hell are you drinking for I want none of it.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. A great day to be a Gooner! And who cares if our unbeaten run ended or continues. We went through.
MOTM Diaby! I love the use of the word immense, when describing his performance last night. I agree, it was immense. Great game from Denilson, and how much did scoring his spotkick mean to him?!!!! He misplaced about 2 passes, when up against a hugely compact and crowded midfield, filled mainly with Roma players. I thought he did a man’s job, holding it all together, and his work rate was great. As was Sammi’s. Roma made it difficult for us all over the pitch. And didn’t allow us to get into our deadly rhythm. Fair play to them. I thought they did what they had to do to stop us, because they were more scared of us than we were of them.

  2. Cyprus The Immortal Gooner

They also had huge injury problems and they were very improved tactically from the first game. BUT…the Arsenal qualified. This is going to be a big boost for the team. Let’s hope we don’t have another injury (we paid our share didn’t we?) and make a final sprint until the end of the season. We’re still in the FA and CL, and hopefully we can clinch the 4th place. This is my “complaint”. Imagine how far this team could go with 2 more world class players…

I bet we’ll draw an English team next round )-:

  3. Mr Platini will sort out some hot balls in next weeks draw, 3 out of the 4 english teams will be in the same half of the draw.
    Just like last year.

  4. Mingus
not sure on your comments about Denilson, however it IS a great day to be a Gooner. Here’s hoping for a favourable draw in the quarters!

  5. gr8 game from denilson, tell me your joking please???

  6. That gives me an idea for a kind of imagist poem:

    David Platta
    Is very fatta.
    Stick a shotta
    Up his botta.
    Pull the trigga:
    Storm o’ shitta.

  7. What a wonderful and fitting poem for Platt the tw*t!!

  8. what would we call a favorable draw? that’s my main head ache.

Of all the teams renaming, Barcelona conceded 3 goals, the highest, yet on paper they are one of the favorites and re scoring for fun.

after man u and pool 0 goals, we and Munich concede the least 1 goal, yet they score 12 while we score 1 so there goes the difference in how the 2 teams are being rated.

Am seeing us more and more with the FA and CL crowns. may we continue to draw nearer and nearer to them

  9. Alex Ice Cream

    JD,

Agreed. Denilson was poor but Diaby was our best player. The 4-2-3-1 left huge gaps everywhere – the midfield 2 were islolated as was RvP.

Anyway who cares. WE ARE THROUGH!

Great test of nerve but we can’t expect to play like that again and go through next time.

Hopefully Cesc should be back and Eddie and Theo should be fitter.

  10. clockendgooner

Thought that both Platt and Smith were gutted by the result. Forced them to rewrite their epitaphs to the team and to Wenger. They really are a pair of insufferable, negative, Sky-b*llsh*t imbued w*nkers.

  11. AIC I agree that there were gaps everywhere, but I thought that Denilson, who was often isolated in the middle of about 4-5 Roma players, did well. I thought he held it together when there were few options or clear paths to his teammates.

  12. But his shitta
    Eez very bitter
    Maybe he eatta
    A little critter

  13. AIC

En route to any knockout trophy, you need luck. We had it in Villarreal, a poor performance but progress made; Barca had it in the final.

We can play that badly and progress so long as we have a second opportunity to rectify the result.

    YW

  14. Alex Ice Cream

    Yogi,

I agree. We stank v Villareal but got through thanks to Huge Jens.

Liverpool have had their share of bad performances and got through in the past. Porto won it by scraping through and diving and cheating.

It doesn’t matter how – we are there!

  15. Roma are the equivalent of everton. Theres no room for Eboue against Barca

  16. David Platta
    Is very fatta.
    Stick a shotta
    Up his botta.
    Pull the trigga:
    Storm o’ shitta.

Pure brilliance. Who said poetry was dead?

  17. Denilson was terrible last night. And Gallas and Toure were back to there early season dodgy form.No outfield player played well.

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH JULIO”THE BEAST”(dont laugh)BAPTISTA ONCE A GOONER…….

  18. Yogi

What the hell am I drinking? What WASN’T I drinking. :)

    Hic

    Hic

    Slurp.

    Burp

    That’s the sound of it.

    Going down the hatch.

  19. Oh really, Arse21? Who do Everton have that compares to:

de Rossi and Totti – World Cup Winners
    Baptista – Regular Brazil International
    Aquilani – Italy International
Vucinic – One of Europe’s form strikers this season
David Pizarro – 10 years of Serie A & international experience

At a push you could probably replace Taddei with Arteta. Or maybe not, because Taddei is bloody good as well.

Roma have been league runners-up two years running and battered Chelsea earlier in the season.

Getting any kind of result there is an achievement.

  20. oneofus,

Come on, there crap, you watched them as well. To beat man u we had to play out of our skins, if we’d played like that we’d of got battered. Roma are a shite team in a dying league, they even wouldnt qualify for europe in the premiership.

Utd beat them, what was it? 7-0?

  21. Arse21 you don’t know what you’re talking about. For years Roma have been regarded as the only possible team to halt Inter’s Serie A hegemony. They’re not Everton, they’re Chelsea or Liverpool.

  22. Deary me. A dying league? Man, it only produced the last world champions. Must be utter dross.

And Roma must be turd. Only 4 World Cup winners in their squad. What a joke they are.

Why can’t you give our team any credit?

  23. Arse21. They beat Chelsea so they are not that bad yes they are not the gratest team in europe but they are not bad they keep the ball down they play good football. I thought Motta was Excellent on both legs. We should buy him.
Yes it wasn’t Vintage Arsenal but these players have learned a lot from this game to come throuh extra time and win it on Penalties is a lot harder than winning in the 90 min it takes lot Cojones (Balls) to keep your nerves in atense atmosphere

  24. F*k it all .. we won !!!

Spalletti anticipated that aw would come up with the same line up and set up his team very well.. clamp down nasri and we wudnt create too many chances.. and thats what happened..

Also rvp didnt help.. he had a very poor game..

Is it me or does everyone think that we have scored recently when rvp was not playing ??

  25. Alex Ice Cream

    Arse21,

I have agreed with you in the past and I also agree that we played badly. I would even go as far to say that ManU would have battered us if we played like that but and there is a but..

WE ARE THROUGH SO WHO CARES!

The next round is another day, another team, another match. We should have Cesc back by then.

Enjoy our prrogress to the QFs you miserable basstad! If we go out in the next round so be it we can all moan then but in the meantime let’s enjoy the result.

  26. A great day to be a Gooner! Winning when you are not at your best is massively important and the lads did it! Nothing else matters. Now it’s on to the next round with belief and maturity banked in the brain for all who participated in that match. This is a massive boost for Fabregas and Adebayor and Rosicky too as it holds out the chance for them to get some CL time. You know they love it and would be crushed if Arsenal had gone out. I know Arshavin is gutted to be cup tied.

I think it just might be our time to be the PL team by itself in a bracket. Let Chelski, Manure, and Pool fight it out amongst themselves. Of course it won’t work out that way, it never does. Liverpool will get the easiest draw.

  27. We did not play well, but Roma played their f*cking hearts out. What a savvy veteran team they have, taking every little advantage, and pushing every limit. That was the best I’ve ever seen Arsenal defended…they studied our offensive tendencies and prepared perfectly. When their defenders attacked the ball, they never ran straight at the player, but always angled to where the player tends to want to move the ball.

It’s lovely to be outplayed and go through anyway.

  28. Crafty bison,

When I compare them to everton I mean in terms of how good the team is currently, not how big the club is

  29. twotouchmiracle

roma would mop the floor with everton. you have no idea what you’re talking about

  30. I sometimes don’t understand some Arsenal fans and critics. Win or lose the team is derided. When the team wins then the opposition was sh*t and Arsenal were lucky, when the team loses then…I don’t need to remind anyone what happens. The Roma team that we eliminated finished above Chelsea in their group having also beaten them 3-1.

  31. …you obviously did not see the first leg against Roma, bops…you f*cking pr*ck…

  32. Arse21, they’re not a “big club” in the sense of Inter, Juve or Milan anyway. “How good the team currently is” should not refer only to a slightly poor season but to the last couple of years, in which they’ve generally been brilliant.

  33. For those who believe that winning is not everything, but the only thing in this game, then there is no more reason to whine.

We have advanced, although not in style.

    Rejoice.

  34. Look at it this way: we have now the experience of playing in Rome. Maybe the Romans might support the conquerors of Roma in the final, to show that Roma lost to a good team capable of winning the Champions League.

  35. …you see Luke…I beg to differ….we have advanced with real style and grace…we won after very, very hard fought second leg in a terrifying stadium….the penalty competition demonstrated real nerve as well as technique….and after the game we had the good grace to congratulate the opposition on their efforts…..there are no prisoners in games like this…two teams really going at it for 120 minutes…in front of a fantastically partisan crowd, for which I salute them…this is what football is all about…I for one thought last night was as exciting as football gets…..if people don’t get that…I just wonder why they bother watching….phenomenal performance from our boys absolutely phenomenal…..they will have gained so much from this…..unfortunately that does not include support from their so-called ‘fans’…

  36. Good morning all,

Arse21′s comment is just a silly attempt to get responses, it holds not merit whatsoever.

Its is a complete joke to say “if” it was another team, well what “is” is Arsenal are through! How many times has Arsenal thoroughly outplayed opponents and not win?

Arsenal to win the CL, even if by the skin of our teeth!

    God Bless!

  37. Frank I agree with you there.

Funny thing, when teams defend against Arsenal it is hailed as a great defensive performance but when we defend well, we were crap. I didnt like how we played overall, seemed cautious, but lets give credit were it is due, we did it! Plain and Simple.

  38. With a few exceptions, I have a very low opinion of posters on most blogs who, as armchair experts, seek to rate Arsenal players after a game, usually coming to the conclusion that X and Y are crap. Usually they are talking out of their arses. Last night/today’s slating of Denilson falls into that category. I agree 100% with Mingus, he might not have had his best game but, as the most defensive of our midfielders, he did a ‘good’ job despite often being isolated against an aggressive Roma plan to press and harry and deny us space in midfield.
In my opinion, who we truly missed last night was Ade for his physicality, his general hold-up play and overall offensive threat. But then the armchair experts still want to run him out of town. What the f*ck do they know?

  39. Agree 100% Frank. Really good to read this blog and all the posts. Just been on LG and its depressing.
Thought Almunia had a great game and kept us in it and Diaby was immense.

The team as a whole worked hard, you could see the atmosphere had got to them, but they stuck to it despite some wayward passing.
The away support was as usual brilliant and was loud and clear on my stream.
Great experience for them all and certainly will help them in the next rounds of CL and FA cups.
Fantastic !!! Come on you gunners

  40. Shotta, whata gwaan?

when watching a game you obviously want your team to score, so you are dissapointed when they dont, but after such a result you have to admire the fighting spirit of the performance. It may not have been pretty but it was effective.

  41. Frank, spot on. That was proper football last night. Why do we love the game? Because of matches like last night. Tooth and nail stuff. Tooth and nail.

And, for the record, Roma did not outplay us. Check the stats. Rewatch the match without the nerves that we all had at the time. I bet you the Roma fans knew they had lost it by the 70 minute mark when they ran out of steam.

  42. Frank

I have been spoilt by the many out of this planet performances from the Arsenal team. (You see, I remember RvP’s quote from last season. I’m an Arsenal supporter like most on ACLF.)

  43. Mr. Bob, we were not outplayed I agree but all of us just wanted to see a killing (seeing how we have played our last couple of matches) so the criticism’s are overboard. Even the goal they scored was more down to us than them, in my view at least.

  44. Even Middlesborough beat Roma

  45. Dec 08 – present, Roma have lost twice in Serie A.

  46. Sorry, that last comment was a wind up.

Its only cos everyones so defensive all the time.

    Chillax dudes.

I tell you what though, if Gallas and Toure were half as defensive as you lot we’d win the league.

  47. Paul N,

Roma are shite mate, shite shite shite shite shite

  48. I feel sorry for Arse21 because he/she definitely doesn’t enjoy football. S/he spends most of the match time looking for the slightest excuse of a mistake by the boys so he can have something to write about….

  49. Luke,

    What, RVP reads this blog?

Dont take the piss, ha ha ha ha ha

  50. …I know you are Luke…you are a star…

  51. UgGunner,

And I feel sorry for you because you dont enjoy tiddly winks.

Whats wrong with you I’m just saying Eboue was awful and shouldnt play again when we play much better opposition like Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barca or Bayern Munich.

    Thats the troof !!!!!!

  52. The ‘star’ thing is well gay, ha ha ha

  53. Its not funny Arse21. Like a comedian who only crack themselves up, come on dude!

People are not being serious but we are all proud of what this group of mainly younsters have accomplished thus far. SO, when you come on here with something totally contrary it will not sit well with those of us who feel this is a great accomplishment.

    NOT KOOL MAN!

  54. Arse21 on March 12, 2009 at 1:48 pm

    Arse21

You don’t seem to have the ability or mental capacity to understand simple English.

  55. I would love to reserve Barca or Bayern for the finals.

Can I just dream about it?

  56. ….a much depleted Roma side against Middlesboro…Totti not playing…Middlesboro did very well….

  57. I tried!

Another 3 points on Saturday and Villa will go down against the Spurs!

  58. …Barca or Bayern would be great….

  59. Barca would be special!

  60. ….don’t try, Paul N…just skip past it….like avoiding shit on the pavement (sidewalk) after a while you develop a sort of auto-pilot…

  61. You seem to be right Frank!

  62. Still no sign of PoS! Had loads of post penalties contractions but nothing kicked on just yet.

Saw this and it made me chuckle. Especially the last paragraph. Someone at the BBC has a sense of humour.

“Police are investigating an allegation of common assault made against Jose Mourinho after a Champions League tie.

It has been alleged the Inter Milan manager punched a supporter as he left Old Trafford stadium after his team’s defeat by Manchester United.

Police have contacted United to request CCTV footage of the area and have confirmed a complaint has been made.

A spokesman for Manchester United confirmed they are aware of the allegation but made no further comment.

The fan is alleged to have chanted, “You’re going home, you’re going home” to the former Chelsea manager.

The man later went into Stretford police station, close to Old Trafford, to report the alleged attack.

The fan claims he was assaulted outside the ground

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Just before midnight on Wednesday 11 March 2009 a man reported he’d been punched in the face outside Old Trafford.

“Police are investigating this common assault allegation. Inquiries are ongoing.”

The allegation came after Mourinho watched his team crash out of the Champions League after Nemanja Vidic and Cristiano Ronaldo scored for United at the start of each half.

Mourinho has come under attack from the Italian media for his failure to get Inter through to the last eight teams in the competition.

The plane taking the Inter party back to Milan left Manchester at 0025 GMT.

The fan, who is not from the Greater Manchester area, did not report any injuries to police after the alleged attack and did not need treatment. “

  63. Frank,

    You’re a star

  64. i cant belive wengers body language yesturday . i never saw him like that .he was more rattled than the team . hell he was like martin jol

  65. QoS
    re Mourinho, lol!

    **
Those contractions were probably just PoS getting into the game and kicking every penalty with the team.

  66. Its been a difficult season and he knew this team needed pass this test. I was rattled much less.

  67. santino,

He was rattled because there keeper didnt have to make a single save, I know exactly how he felt.

  68. Luke,

I cant believe you think RVP reads this blog. In fact I think you’re right, I think he even posts on here under the name ‘I am a star’

  69. ARSENAL IN MOURNING.

Thousands of mourners gathered at the Emirates stadium last night to weep at the sad occasion of Arsenal’s progression to the quarter finals of the champions league last night.
Candles were lit as fans kept a vigil for the soul of Arsenal football club. Bells tolled across islington and supporters shouted “Goodbye” and wept openly as memories of the bad performance in Rome last night became to much to bear. A mock up coffin of Arsenal football club was erected outside the stadium shop and thousands of flowers rained down in respect from the north london gatherers.

A supporter, one of many, threw his season ticket on the burning funeral pyre, and said:

“We have witnessed the death of Arsenal football club. We pray for safe passage to heaven”.

Tributes came flooding in from rival fans, managers and emissaries from oversees.

A delegation from the UN arrived to conduct prayers in various religious denominations.

A motorcade from FIFA arrived to pay their respects.

The prime minister and leader of the opposition lit a candle in silence.

A message was received from Osama Bin Laden, a known Arsenal fan, hoping for a speedy expedition to the heavens.

    Another classic.

  76. …if a fellow stands in the street berating a dogturd for being in the street…and goes on to give it a goo ticking off for being a piece of shit…there is a fair chance that people in the neighboorhood will think that the fellow is stark staring mad…..’look at him’ they will say…’talks t shit you know’…..when their children go off to play..’ok ,make sure you mind the roads don’t talk to strangers…and especially do not talk to that chap who talks to shit’, their parents will say…..and so it is with people who try to reason with Arse21…you would have to be some sort of f*cking nutter to speak to him…

  77. Frank,

And thats why I dont like cricket

  78. Anyone who cannot take the greatest pleasure from last night’s result is not an Arsenal fan. They are not even a football fan. Last night is football.

It’s what makes all those games against Blackburn, Bolton, and their all too numerous ilk, worth bearing.

Proper football, proper opposition, proper game. Right result.

    Up the Gunners.

  79. Frank's biggest fan

    Brilliant Muppet.

QoS, Awaiting the news of arrival of PoS.

Hello Frank, FG, Paul N, Zimpaul, Consol, PB, Pz, AIC, Team Spirit, Davebluez, Shotta, and other usual suspects.

Well said YW. Cheers to Arseblogger as well. Few blogs have been disgraceful, but we already knew the black sheeps.

    Lastly, COYG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  80. ….the penalties were fantastic…only Eduardo’s and possibly Theo’s were too near the keeper…the others…perfect…just perfect….Denilson in his interview when asked about taking a penalty….’no I was relaxed…I wanted to take a penalty…’…class…real class…

  81. What up Fbf?

Theo – turns 20 monday next week

They have matured a year after than PS.

  84. Well, Paul, you obviously haven’t had the ‘pleasure’ of reading LG.

If you had, you would know that we were very lucky that Arsene doesn’t know what he is doing and that we would have struggled against Burnley with that team.

I don’t know. Maybe they just know their football over there better than we do. Maybe David Platt is an Arsenal fan and Alan Smith is just a realist.

    Pfffft!

  85. David Platt is a fat c*nt!

  86. Arse21

What time do your mum and dad stop you from using their computer? Can you let me know, and I’ll pop back then.

    Much appreciated.

  87. There will always be haters Mr. Bob, I could care less about that rubbish.

I am proud of the team.

I loved Toure’s penalty and I didnt expect Sagna to be so kool.

Denilson will be one of the best players in world football, what a confident young chap and you can see that he loves being an Arsenal player.

  88. what i find truly baffling is how people can anticipate the next loss of the team to crash out of the Cl without even knowing who our opponents are; seriously weird!

They just set themselves up for a fall though, cos this team is going all the way in the CL and FA cups!

  89. hello FFF, liked what you did with that Eduardo GOAL. more of that please

  90. Team Spirit, as they did as we beat Juve and Real on the way to the CL Final, they also “Knew” AC Milan wouldve beaten us last year!

    Haters!

  91. Paul N,

    Dont be a hater

“”Idiots,” said Neill, who has never hidden his admiration for the Frenchman. “Only idiots would get restless. Listen, Arsene doesn’t need me to defend him because he has done it all.

“He’s the envy of the football world, one of the truly great figures in world football. The only reason Arsenal have fallen away a little this season is because he has had to contend with a truly horrendous injury list.

“That’s not a weak excuse, it’s a fact. But they are getting some key players back – at last – and, let us not forget, they haven’t lost in the league for nearly four months.

“With two months of the season to go, I am extremely optimistic about things. If we had not had all those injuries we would still have been very much in the title race.

“You cannot legislate for the injuries we’ve had. Any manager at any club would have struggled with what Arsene has had to put up with.”

Neill, who spent 16 years with the club as player and manager, is adamant Wenger will bring more silverware to the club in years to come.

“I know people get bored hearing it, but we all must look at the big picture.

“The board and the manager know it and the fans must recognise it. Arsene has a long-term policy which will, eventually, bear rich fruits. Our foundations are now rock solid and the system we have from youth level upwards is magnificent.

  95. Frank ! Thanks for that.. a proper interview with an intelligent ex-Arsenal man.
    A good read.

  96. Disliking ex-gooners, loyal gooners who love the club, for telling the truth is sick, its sick.

Our ancestors from Woolwich would turn in there graves

  97. am relived that we win yesturday , but that wasnt proper football , the quality was lacking from both sides , especially the romans were clearly strugling with fitness . their main threat totti was walking all the night.

  98. ….thanks for that, santino…you clearly know your football…we all feel enlightened now….

  99. …the heart and soul of this club was born in Highbury…not Woolwich….

  104. …the founders of this club are my heroes….Henry Norris and Herbert Chapman…and they both would have held Arsene Wenger and this squad in very high esteem…like him they were both innovators….

  105. the founders of this blog are frank and flint

what happend to flint frank ?? you buried him too

  106. I wonder what they’d have thought of Arse21.

  107. I think YW & the reasonable fans here sums it up pretty nicely…..who the hell cares about the performance, we are through….

The same people crying about the performance, would be the same people crying if we were out last night.

So you and the Sun know where to shove up your ratings and rankings, exactly where you shove up your negativity every single day. No wonder some of you have more than one Arse hole to keep up!
    ===

The celebration from the team after the penalties shows that the players knew they came through a difficult time together as one unit, when will the fans grow up and learn the same?

You want to know the real fans who would die for this club, those are the ones who travel everywhere with the team no matter how far the journey is, and no matter how dangerous it may be. Not every one have the time, money, or guts to do like them, but at least try to appreciate and support the team’s effort while you’re sitting on your lazy ass at home.

    Good Morning!

  108. “The same people crying about the performance, would be the same people crying if we were out last night.”

    simple but profound

  109. …the club was languishing in the second division and really had not progressed from when it was a ‘works’ team founded by Scottish workers…..then along came Henry…..f*cked the Spuds right royally and got us into the First Division….talk about double bubble…what a star….moved the club to a better fan base and closer to Central London…what a star……brought in Herbert Chapman…what a star…built a new stadium…what a star…changed the training facilities and methods and the playing style…what a star…..changed the kit to red shirt with white sleeves…what a star……introduced European football…what a star…..won titles and cups….what a star….

….that is the foundation of the club we know today…and AW is carrying on that tradition….there is only one difference between then and now…..the supporters…they were great supporters….as you can see on the blogs and in the stadium…..we are now sh*t supporters….only one group of people have let this great, classy club down……..and it is epitomised by you Arse21…you piece of shit…

  110. “Good Morning!” ha ha

G4E along with ur . this has made me chuckle!

    hee hee!

  111. …..this site was founded by Yogi’s Warrior, santino….

  112. Paul N
:) The Good Morning is for the people who actually believe a “Good Morning” can exist or possible.

It seems some people don’t believe it’s possible.

  113. if arsenal were found by supporters then this blog is founded by blogers

  114. ….YW’s campaign against the BBC after their coverage of the club in the Beveren affair was exemplary….

  115. Seems so huh!

G4E, I have long noticed that unless Arsenal beat teams by at least 3 goals, while conceding none, placing with all pace and slick passing, many Arsenal fans will not be happy.

I am happy and good morning to you too freind!

  116. …Arsenal wasn’t founded by supporters ….it was founded by players….this blog was founded by a supporter……come on keep up, son….

  117. Frank!! Walk around the dogshit, brother!!
You said it yourself…kick it and it sticks to you.

  118. Arse21 is more like an incontinent dog than a dogshit.

  119. Muppet that was a long time coming:)
Made my day. I’m having an awful time, so yeah its the little things that are making my day lately.

  120. i thought those days supporters and players were the same thing frank but am not too sure about that.

  121. …naah…I am just giving my old memories of the club a dusting off, Pb…great fun….the parallels between Chapman and Wenger are startling and very interesting…..the ant-support on blogsites just give us a chance to make some improvements in matchday support….first step is to identify rotten apples….found a few over the last couple of years…

  122. Well, the road to success is not always paved Paul N.

Maybe they’re young and restless, or maybe they’re old and have no patience…it’s hard to be balanced these days!

  123. usually not G4E,

Funny its so easy to see what is happening with this team! I just dont get what the fuss is all about.

  124. Paul N , my lord – respect sah!
Avoiding the dog-shit like you and the big-time supporters on this blog.
Yes siree, its a good day to be a Gooner!

  125. Seems like a new name has been coined for the Arsenal haters Shotta!

  126. Not sure either Paul N.

Maybe it’s the new “Cool” to be always unhappy?

  127. Alex Ice Cream

It seems that some fans would be happier if we went out. Reading some of the rubbish on the net today makes me wonder if we are indeed out and that I imagined us winning the shootout.

As much as it pains me to say so, I have to agree with Frank about the rank support of the team. I was in the pub last night which was full of Gooners but listening to the bile being spewed out all around me I thought I was surrounded by Spudz.

The same people obviously went mad when we won but I didn’t enjoy the “your sh1t ……” comments throughout the game. I felt like the only person in the pub who believed that we would win albeit without penalties.

The level of hostility that some people displayed towards the team was actually quite disturbing.

  128. ….I agree with you AIC…..what the hell has happened to Arsenal supporters…..

  129. I just thought Theo’s comment below was worth sharing:

“…it was like we had just won the World Cup Final in the dressing room after the game.

The atmosphere was brilliant. Even though there are all sorts of nationalities in there, we all get along and we are like a family in there. It’s just a brilliant bunch of lads to play with.”

  130. http://www1.uefa.com/Competitions/UCL/photos/index.html

scroll to the arsenal pic, this is all I care about!

  131. Alex Ice Cream

    Frank,

I must admit that I am at a loss to explain it. I went to the game v Sunderland and was amazed to hear the boos and the general hostility in the crowd which punctuated the long quiet spells.

I was really annoyed last night as well as some of the abuse I heard would have been bad if it were Totti that those people were screaming at never mind Eboue/Nasri/Denilson (take your pick).

You know that I believe in criticism but I draw the like way before unchecked and indiscriminate malice that many people see fit to vomit on the team that they “support”.

    Its a disgrace.

  132. …well said….

  133. Eduardo’s out for Blackburn! Bugger.

  134. …Theo’s comments are fantastic, Passenal…..

  135. It’s sad, but that’s what happens when a player is out for a year. I don’t wish it on Rosicky, but it may be the same for him when he returns.

It’s ok if they have all these niggling little injuries this season, because we want them all fit by the pre-season.

  136. Alex Ice Cream

I know I can be a miserable basstad but there is no pleasing some people. If we win its not good enough. If we lose we are sh1t.

    What do these people want?

Ok we struggled last night – there is no argument there and we may yet go out in the next round but let’s deal with that if it happens and enjoy our victory last night.

You don’t hear the Scousers saying “We won the CL in 2005 but its not good enough as we were sh1t over 120mins”. Ditto United in 99 after Bayern pretty much were in control until the 100th minute.

We won the Cup in 05 and were terrible but we won.

We played better in the 2001 Cup Final and lost. It seems that unless we smash teams 4-0 every game its not good enough.

If we go out in the next round it will be because of what happens in the next 2 legs and nothing to do with the Roma game.

I would have thought that this was obvious but it appears that I am sadly mistaken.

  137. AIC if u were the only person among the supporters who belived we can win yesturday in your pub then obiviously there is some problem in our team . it is not lke the anti arsenal media is filling the pub and stadium with arsenal haters as some people in this blog belives.

  138. Of course the anti-Arsenal-media will not fill the pub, why would they, when there are stupid fans who read their sh*t and believe it then spread it around?

  139. Frank, that’s why I posted them here – Howard would hate them!

G4E – Yet another reminder of why we can’t afford to get rid of any of our strikers, however much some ‘fans’ might dislike them personally. That’s also what people also forget about Diaby, whose ankle was broken and dislocated by that Sunderland thug a couple of seasons ago and he is only slowly getting back to the point where he can play more than a couple of games in a row without sustaining a minor injury.

  140. G4u are u saying majority of our supporters are stupid then??

  141. AIC – your experience in the pub is the fat end of the wedge that starts with the moaning on here, hence why some of us are so vehemently opposed to encouraging negativity, which then takes root in the fan base. There are countless people out there who really believe they are Arsenal fans, but they cannot be because their hatred (and that is not too strong a word) of the manager and the players is not compatible with supporting the team. A true supporter would defend their team to the hilt, not try to be even more abusive than the most rabid Arsenal hating manc or spud out there.

  142. Passenal, I surely agree on the strikers issue. It would have been nice if Ade was there last night as an option with his aerial and physical ability. Wither Ade is better or Bendtner is better is not the important thing, the important is we have both options available.

  143. Passenal, these people most probably behave this way in every area of their lives, miserable and never satisfied unless everything goes their way.

  144. You “think” you’re in the majority Santino….I don’t think so…..

The stupid Media outlets make you wrongly believe you outnumber the believers, but you don’t…

  145. AI & Frank: My take on the poor supporters. If I am to go by a sibling of mine who years ago introduced me to the club, they are SPOILT. He ecame a supporter during the AW era and he’s been spoilt by the exploits of TH-14, PV Bergkamp, Bobby Pires et al. For him and me, the GG era is a faint memory, preferably forgotten, because even though we in the Caribbean were mostly treated to highlights, it was dull and dreary despite the many Ian Wright’s heroics. Not only spoilt, but they have no concept of the difficulty in rebuilding a club from a foundation of youth. It is like seeing your own children grow to successful adults (giving away my age). My reading of mostly English posters, and the Daily Mail echo-chamber, is there is an underlying animus to these foreign players whom Arsene, up until this year, has been forced to rely. Most of these so-called supporters are totally unwilling to give these young foreigners any time to grow and mature. Hence the totally unreasonable expectations of instant success and total perfection.
Added to this mix, is a sense of entitlement that now seem to pervade those of us in the West with access to season tickets, high-paying jobs, satellite tv, high speed internet (I am guilty on 2 of 4 counts) which apparently pervades the Emirates, which feeds into the chronic negativity of those who never had to suffer to succeed.
    Just my 2 cts.
PS: I never thought I would have a long-reasoned response to an AIC post.

  146. Hatred is very fashionable. It is the new black.

  147. A lot of people take their opinions from the newspapers. Not just on football, but on everything. They read nothing else, and they are incapable of independent judgement. They often regurgitate what they have read as if it is the fruit of long contemplation.

  148. “Arsenal – a great club, a club with tradition. Playing for this team – an honor for any player.”

Andrey Arshavin from his official website

  149. “The essence of optimism is that it takes no account of the present, but it is a source of inspiration, of vitality and hope where others have resigned; it enables a man to hold his head high, to claim the future for himself and not to abandon it to his enemy.”
    Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Christian quote but applies to our club!

  150. We may not be where we want to be now but that day is coming, very soon!

  151. PaulN – Correction, a quote of humane values.

  152. Frank,

Moved the club to a better fan base? You constantly bang on about us having the worst fans in the world, you think were scum. You dont call yourself a gooner anymore. You never wash.

I think the club should move back home to woolwich wgere the real fans are.

The return of the Woolwich Wanders !!!

    Woolwich !!!!, woolwich !!!!, woolwich !!!

  153. You could be right Shoota but there were planty of foreign players in those other successful Arseanl sides.

Me? I think hatred is very fashionable right now.

    Hate is the new black.

  154. I meant he was a Christian Shotta and he was talking about his faith but none the less, I agree it applies to life in general.

  155. This site is repeating me again…again..again…

  156. I agree Mr. Bob, no one is satisfied, things are so easily available for many that they think everything must happen now (Microwave, fast food mentality).

  157. I deny that arse-bashing is connected to pessimism. The arse-bashers are optimists, since they believe everything will be perfect if only we bring in Mourinho as manager and Kompany as a player. If ever there was blind optimism, this is it. Their optimism is simply directed in a perverse way.

  158. This is dangerous territory Paul. I agree with you but according to Big Al, I am prone to blame young people for everything.

Actually, it is not an age thing. The only people I detest are those with no respect for others. Those who think they have a right to walk over, whatever and whoever to get what they want. What they are ‘entitled’ to. The “‘…and what are you going to do about it?” attitude.

    Aggressive and ugly.

  159. That is very logical Pz.

You have the air of Mr Spock sometimes.

  160. So what do you call the hate towards the present manager and players?

  161. Hate!

  162. Exactly Mr. Bob, its not really about being young, its spoilt as Shotta has said. I know people who older than I who are more immature than some teenagers.

  163. Well they are pessimistic as far as the current manager and players are concerned, whom they hate, no?

  164. Pessimism is not the same as having a preference.

  165. I don’t know about their ‘pessimism’ or even ‘optimism’ Paul. I am not sure that they would even understand the concept. A debate like this is probably of no interest to them.

We are just a bunch of w@nkers.

  166. I haven’t seen the game on TV yet but my solid impression was that Denilson was poor in the first half, Van Persie disappeared, Roma were bright for 30 minutes and in the end we were lucky to qualify.

  167. So if you haven’t seen the game Ole Gunner – how have you formed this ‘solid impression’?

  168. I’ve tried not to use a swear word – but when I saw the piece by Amy Laurence, supposedly a gooner, basically stating that this team is not good enough, I had to utter “b*tch” – it’s almost like a reflexive reaction!
Why oh why people have selective memory!? Chelsea lost to Roma 3-1!!! Why oh why people refuse to give this precious bunch of players any credit for the mental strength and determination for all the talk of inexperience and mental fragility!! It saddens me greatly – I’d better watch the penalty shoot-outs again to lift my mood now…

  169. I have seen the game, but not on TV, Passenal. It was a strange game. I dont have many strong impressions from it. I can’t really say we were better. I can’t say Roma were better. I can say our offensive play was poor. I can also say we should never play 4-2-3-1 without positional rotation if the front 4 will be RVP, Eboue, Nasri and Bendtner. If they move around it works, if they don’t it doesn’t.

I’ll also say Wenger’s tactics yesterday baffled me. It was the first time in years that I didn’t understand what the game plan was. Not a criticism mind you.

I am absolutely delirious we won!

  170. Great blog
What matters is that we won yea we won and we remain unbeaten like it or not
do you care about the performance in these kind of tournament ( World cup , CL ect ) well NO.
it seems to me that if we Win or Lose the fans will not be happy come on you gunners we are in the next round ( the biggest 8 clubs ) so be happy
    ARSENAL 4 LIFE

  171. Ole Gunner – I think on reflection, not foresight, that Arsene’s tactics was to make our team very difficult to beat with that solid midfield 4. Over and over again when A.W. plumps for Eboue (or Song) over a creative midfielder/winger he is playing “with the handbrake on.” The fact that we are unbeaten for nigh 4 months after leaking goals at the beginning of the season in a most un-Arsenal fashion shows the success of the tactic. Now we have a platform to build on as we will soon have an embarassment of riches in terms of offensive/creative players i.e Arshavin, Eduardo and Walcott, Ade and Cesc either already in the squad or on their way back. Getting them back to playing freely and to their full potential will take a little more time. But at this stage of the season, it is good to be a Gooner.
    (Ask a Villa fan.)

  172. SWP with a brilliant goal! good player, why oh why didnt he come to Arsenal?!?

  173. Don’t worry, ToughCookie. Our players don’t give a damn about Amy Laurence. Last night, we caught a glimpse of the iron determination that young players like Nasri and Denilson have needed every day to bring themselves to the summit of world football.

  174. SWP?

He chosed more money on the bench (chealsea), rather than less money on the field (gunners).

  175. You think so, Poliz?
    Then I feel a bit better now…Thanks

  176. I agree TC, I can just imagine the type of player he would be know if he allowed Mr. Wenger to mould him. Still young but it almost seems like a wasted career.

  177. Denilson, and probably Nasri as well, come from very poor backgrounds. Success wasn’t given to them from outside; it came from within, from their own commitment, their own strength of character. Talk of Denilson becoming a man last night is just so much rubbish. For several years, he has been a man in a way that his critics will never be.

  178. …you do talk utter bollocks sometimes, OG…none of our players went missing at any time during that game….if you watch the game after the emotions have died down….Arsenal were the better team…we got screwed by a nervous error in the first 10 minutes…..nervous becuse the home support was incredible…we got caught before we had a chance to acclimatise…that goal gave a lot of confidence to Roma…along with their supporters…that was a f*cking hell of hill for a young team to climb…and you know what… they did it…they helped each other through it….RvPs reaction to Eduardo after his miss said it all to me….real camaraderie….

…don’t come here with your f*cking stupid armchair comments about individual players, OG…that makes you worse than the anti-support….

  179. …spot on Pz…@8.31…spot on…

  180. …of all the Arsenal squads I have seen over many years….this is my favourite….their sheer bottle and the way they conduct themselves makes me proud to be an Arsenal supporter….this squad is going to take on the world and win…..with or without some of you…..some of these guys have more courage than a stadium full of Arsenal supporters…very, very impressive…

  181. …they have class….

  182. @Passenal..”..the fat edge of the wedge” ~
    very classy!!

    @Consols.. sorry, the ear-trumpet’s palying up..what were you saying… ?? Eh ? Speak up!

  183. whoops..that’s what happens when you try and take the piss but aren’t funny.. am fleeing the scene- – -
Still, “fat edge of the wedge” still making me grin…

  184. I too agree with Poliziano at 8:31, people like Denilson, Nasri, and maybe even Kolo & Eboue..work their ass off to get to this point. No one hands them anything on a silver plate.

  185. What I’m really happy with and was not expecting – Thank God I didn’t watch the penalties live or I would be in the ICU – is that Denilson, Sagna, and Diaby all took their kick in a very cool manner like they’ve been doing it day in & day out.

  186. Yep, G4E -
In that atmosphere with 50,000 or so Roma fans whistling and jeering..
Love these boys, and the unity – something is clicking in this team now. Would have LOVED to have been in that Dressing-room!!

  187. Not being too negative , but several of the players last night were shite. RVP managed to sky every corner, so much so, that a zeppelin overhead would have had plenty of action coming its way. I don’t think it’s a selection problem, I just get the feeling that we are not being coached positionally. What we need a chart on the wall, the an ‘X’ marking the positions of the players. I suspect that some of the top managers in the world, perhaps Mouriniho would be able to stand up in the dressing room, with a pointy stick and tell which players to stand in which positions.

Without this, we leave massive holes on the pitch, particularly up front, when we don’t push on as part of a move. The team need to function as a unit, but the problem we have is that Wenger wants the players to work all this out for themselves, and doesn’t convey this from the touchline. Last night his hands were stuck in his body warmer and it was up to Pat Rice to do the shouting from the touchline.

What really worried be last night was Almunia. He stood like a rome statue in front of goal, and it was only that action that enabled him to make the first save. Kolo and Gallas performed the Laurel and Hardy double act, and got back into their old habits of seeing who could cause the most calamity in front of goal. Do they have trouble understanding their dialects of french ?

As for Eboue, the guy was laughably woeful. His instructions from Wenger were to get the ball, race like a hare at the dogs up the pitch and then distribute it to the opposition players as fast as possible, or if not, sky the ball into the stadium with the panache of a cat having a rocket up its arse.

Bottom line is we won, but the most delusional of us would actually think we have a chance of winning this tournament if we play anywhere as badly as that again. We should have wrapped this tie up before we started. We have too many poor players and accepting mediocrity is not my thing. I blame Song.

  188. What a treat that would be? To be in the dressing room on day like that PBoy.

  189. Have you been to Le Grove recently Muppet?

  190. Eboue’s shooting was funny, though! that goal turned him on big time. Ha Ha!

  191. Muppet! You worry me.. [ because i know you to be in the vanguard of piss-takers - but that sounds like a genuine critique ].
Watching the highlights this morning, with Italian commentary was interesting: the worry in their voices when Robin, or Eddy had the ball.. the awe with which Almunia’s (Big Al ?) name was mentioned and the screaming when they got the goal.. showed that some people were scared of us. And rightly so. Am not going to say it again, but Roma, at home, a goal down.. and we won.
We didn’t lose, we drew, and then we WON! :-)

  192. I bet we get Barcelona or Manchester United now. I’d hope for Porto or Villareal but I’d absolutely enjoy knocking the mancs off their perch.

  193. I agree with Muppet. Lol. No way can we keep on winning with the performance we gave last night. Only chelsea has the right to do that week in week out. And we’re not chelsea. No sir. Not again, we were lucky. But then again so were Roma. And thats football for you. .So grow the f*** up, whoevers putting our win to LUCK.

As for the pundits hailing Manu. **** em. If anyone saw that game, they would know that Inter were clearly on top. They just couldn’t convert their chances. Ibrahimovich the big match flop, missed atleast 1 sitter, and 2 good chances. Stankovich( I think) missed one, and Adriano hit the post. But Manu were good enough to convert 2 of their 3 chances. But I see no one moaning about their win, to the pundits they were hip n cool. F*** that. Where the f*** was ronaldo by the way? Woeful defending led him to score one. But apart from that he didnt show any signs of why he is the best player in the world.

  194. …well I for one will be giving the players a standing ovation on Saturday…..it would be nice to think that 55,000 other people will too…..but I don’t give a flying f*ck…I will be doing it anyway….

  195. How are you today, Ponyboy?

  196. That’s the spirit, Frank! Maybe like arsewipe, it’s best to simply ignore those who are still living in 2004.
Theo’s shoulder fully mended.. Cesc and Tomas coming back..
One last thing about the penalties – not a single man out there was holding back; they were ready and willing to step up. Not the same as a certain National team. No fear factor. Agree, OG – want to take the Mancs on now.
@Frank – thanks, didn’t see any of the game – just the usual shite about how good they were.
Oh, and Maureen, sucking SAF’s lumpy protuberance… obvious which job he really wants!

  197. See above Pz..full of vim, vigour and another word beginning with v..

Strange, but the worst of the last 3 days was nothing like expected..no shaking, sweating etc, but nervy, and lots of scratching (toxins ?).

Thanks for asking, bro – am (almost ) as new/old.

  198. Muppet – you are the best. Hell there was only one team on the field, with all their home support, Arsenal.

  199. Okay..not quite with it yet, then… Muppet!!

  200. Vim, vigour, and vitality?

I’m glad to hear it, Ponyboy.

  201. Bragging Rights Ltd

    Viagra?

  202. Well, Polizi -
Don’t want to give false impressions.. firstly, had some medication from the doc; secondly had a few glasses during last night’s game.. so – taking it easy. This weekend could be huge green spiders.. taking penalties on the ceiling.
Just idly looked at a ManUre blog ( Arsenal ones except ‘blogger sometimes just downers) ~
Liked their “Ronaldo to take diving lessons from Phelps”.
Unless i have very rose-tinted specs, that’s how our support used to be – laugh at ourselves.

  203. What’s the medication for, if you don’t mind my asking?

  204. Sorry, I’m being very nosey.

  205. It’s valium, Pz.. (tiny doses) – as in these Health&Safety days they were worried I might have a fit.
Which ofcourse i would have had anyway, had not the Beast slipped over – or Mad Manu run up to take a pen.
Not to turn this into some AA/NA blog; but was also a bit scared.. but am actually rather a lightweight; can’t drink spirits, as they make me sick…just bought a bottle of wine day after day, and then got the FEAR when i couldn’t get it…

  206. That was shit performance We have our old boy Baptista to thank for been so shit and fluffed a sitter .Denilson is crap he is so weak in midfield he has no presence at all its not his fault he is no Gilberto or Viera he is an attacking player doing the wrong job. We are lacking so badly in midfield I hope Fabregas comes back in time for the CL otherwise we don’t stand a chance we need to improve a lot defensively to keep the likes of Messi,Ribery, Drogba and Topdiver Ronaldo quiet.
Anyway enjoy the victory for now.

  207. It’s cool – never one to hide my frailties! But probably boring for others….

  208. That’s all unknown territory for me, Ponyboy. As I’m sure you have realised, I’m not the most worldly of men. I would have liked to be a monk, if only I had been a believer.

  209. BentleyThe FlyingSpur

Well done scum ! That showed Howard eh eh eh

  210. i’ve always wondered about that. if a team win over two legs, but lost in one of the game does is still count as a win?

  211. One of the formidable attributes of ManU is the ability to grind out 1-0 results, over a month or more, when they are not playing well with key players off form or out injured and the self-belief that goes with that (applauded all the way by the media).

    So, a question.

Over the 2 legs of the Roma-Arsenal tie, home and away, which was the better team? Here we are talking skill, tactics, spirit, fitness, possession, chances, defence etc … the big picture.

Why are some people so depressed?

Was Arsenal really ‘lucky’, or did the better team simply go through?

  212. Frank,

‘of all the Arsenal squads I have seen over many years….this is my favourite….their sheer bottle’

Its comments like this which make me haveto laugh at you and wind you up. You bring it on yourself.

  213. Arse21, I know you are only 21 but if the number was not there I would have thought that you were 14. Very very negative comments from you all the time. Even BORO beat Roma ?????? By that logic, a couple of weeka go BORO beat Liverpool as well so what is excactly your point ??

We did not play well enough, maybe Roma didn’t let us or we were just bad on the night, but next friday it’s our name that will come up, not Roma’s.
If we play like this again, I agree, we’ll probably get knocked out in the next round, but we have time and players are still coming back from injury. Cesc and Ade are very important players and we need them against top teams.

    cheer up lads…. or Arse21

  214. messi4arsenal,

Thats fair enough, I just cant stand Eboue. As a man or as a footballer.

Franks funny though, he honestly thinks he’s more of a fan then everyone else, he deserves to be laughed at.

  215. ..yes this is definitely my favourite…I have never watched a squad grow before…it is rare to have the privilege to see a winning squad develop…they are not far away now….and when they get there they are going to world beaters….it is also great to know that there are more layers below them and so our future is assured for many years to come….

  216. Well there’s never any doubt that Frank does support the club.

The same cannot be said for you, Arse21.

  217. Frank,

I’ll believe it when I see it, at the moment they look terribly average. Cesc cant do it all on his own again.

Now go on frank, state the obvious, come on say it – ‘get behind the team’

  218. Oneofus,

Franks not a gooner, he hates gooners, ask him.

Maybe frank should get his own team and see how far he gets, and also see how many of the players he loves so much would want to play for him without our money.

  219. …I will say this to you once, Arsehole21….you lost the right to have people reply to you a long time ago…..

  220. How many teams in the q/f’s of the Champions League? Eight, I believe.

That will be the 7 best sides in Europe and 1 terribly average one, then, will it?

Bloody ‘ell! What happenned to the other 200 or so who compete in the top leagues?

  221. That’s a pretty cr@ppy wind-up.

Anyway, in a perfect world, what would you have Arsenal do to become less “average”?

  222. I’m convinced he’s just on a wind-up, CB. It’s just that the game doesn’t seem to get old for him like it does for most trolls.

Some one called him a turd on a pavement.

That isn’t true. It’s a turd in a flaming paper bag on your doorstep; your instinct tells you to stamp it out but you end up wishing you hadn’t.

  223. Frank,

I will say this only once, your a moron.

  224. Franks a moron…….oops……I meant twice……sorry

  225. Oneofus,

Give the british kids a chance (not being racist I just think it’d be good for morale at the ground, and most of them are better then Eboue), get rid of the arrogant idiots like Adebeyor, and get rid of the tosh like Eboue. We have no Identity any more, no theme, were like a lost little rabbit. With big ears.

  226. You show the players too much respect, they’ve taken the club from us. In the old days players used to get roasted ten times worse and they took it like men, thats a fact.

  227. Arse21 has spent the whole night thinking of insults, and look what he’s come up with.

  228. Poliziano,

    Hello Mr interesting

  229. There’s one of his favourites. He noted it down some time ago, thinking it particularly witty.

  230. You all don’t like Arse 21 because he says it like it is and you don’t like the truth. Truth hurts.
You all think you are smarter than anybody who doesn’t agree with you. Grow up

  231. I think you have to catch up, Arse21. Arsenal has changed and I wouldn’t swap our new identity for anything. I shouldn’t have to remind you that in the “old days”, Arsenal wasn’t regularly among the top 5 or 6 teams in Europe. You’re going to get left behind with that attitude – and that’s not just as a football fan.

  232. You are right 1ofUs. He’s just 1ofThem. A hater.

    Leave it.

  233. Another one. I’m in agony. The truth does that for me every time.

    Pass me the aspirin.

  234. Correction on “new” it’s not “new” really. It has just evolved.

  235. You are a bunch of YES men or I should say kids who are afraid to be critical of bad players that is why our club will go down the shit hole. You accept low standards mediocre players. We are not F****g scum Spurs. You make these shit players know when they are not performing and keep them on their toes.

  236. Consolsbob,

I hope you can get to a game this century, it might open your eyes a little bit

  237. The strange thing is, Arse21 must have evolved as well, and yet he is inferior to all other living creatures.

  238. It’s like there has been some kind of inversion of natural selection – the survival of the shittest.

  239. Poliziano,

Or in your wifes case, survival of the fattest.

You started the personal stuff, aren’t you supposed to be too mature for that kind of stuff?

  240. A Darwinian blind alley Pz. All the other amoeba avoided the evolutionary option of becoming that stupid.

  241. I think it’s trial and error. Guys like Arse21 are the error, and they’ll either have to improve or go away.

  242. …oh dear oh dear oh dear……look who is back in town…..

  243. Is Spoiled Brat Muppet in disguise? If so that’s the best wind up he’s done. If not, he’s misssed out.

    Beyond parody perhaps.

  244. …no Arseworms Arseworm….I started the personal stuff…..we were trying excise the supporating chancre in Arsenal support….the supporters who are trying their damnedest to ruin the matchday experience…..the lazy support which has no voice…except to boo at the end of games…..and also the support which does an even better job of dising the club day in day out on blogsites than does the Mail or the Sun or any other Arsenal hating tabloid…..

  245. Consolsbob,

Buy a ticket and get down the ground you tight git.

If not, you have no right to judge those who spend a fortune – armchair boy

  246. Frank,

Get some perspective frank, you talking crap again

  247. …just for the record…I am not a gooner….that name did not exist when I started supporting the club…..but I am an Arsenal supporter….

  248. …actually I do talk crap from time to time…..I quite agree…..the main objective though is to improve support on matchdays…..outing pr*cks like you, Arsehole21, is just one of many initiatives…..it is working very, very well…and you still have not caught on have you……

  249. Judgement is for the Righteous.

  250. Aaaayyyeeee!!! I’ve taken a direct hit from Arse21′s fat-wife weapon, the sharpest in his armoury. He’s not as stupid as he looks. If I had a wife, and if she was fat, I’m sure that would have been a mortal blow.

  251. The team for Blackburn picks itself

    Eboue Toure Gallas Clichy

    Walcott Diaby Song Arshavin

    Bendtner RVP

    Hope Adebayor makes the bench.

  252. …’Aaaayyyeeee!!!’…fantastic, Pz…I have not seen that word since the early sixties ….often accompanied by ‘nnnngggggg’……’ugh’…usually after some poor soul had been crowned by ‘clickybaaa’……

  253. Consolsbob,

Get down the ground, cheap skate.

  254. Ole
have I missed something, is Sagna injured?

  255. Strong team, OG. I was thinking of Eboue at right-back as well. Sagna’s played a load of football recently. We need as much freshness on Saturday as possible,

  256. Poliziano- you don’t like women?
Frank- I’m not a muppet. You don’t like what I said? why don’t you have a constructive debate. Do you accept low standards at our club?

  257. I can feel a ‘Ragin’ fury’ coming on.

  258. Arse21- These people have never been to a game all they do is sit behind their PC cosy in their bedrooms write crap and call themselves fans

  259. ……I did not say a word to you, Spoiled Brat…I believe that you were conversing with Cb….did you not read the posts, son?…it really is important to do that if you are going to ‘debate’ as you call it…..

…I attend all home games and some away games…have done for many, many years…

  260. “Poliziano- you don’t like women?”

Do you have any reason for asking that?

  261. Another strike with one of their big guns! This is where we are meant to get into a willy waggling contest about how many matches we have been to and how long we have been supporters.

Keep it for the playground boys.

  262. JD Gooner,

Sagna doesnt look tired but he hasn’t been rotated in a while. Plus Eboue only played 60 mins on Wednesday. Denilson however is likely to be tired after 90 minutes in midfield on Wednesday.

  263. Consolsbob,

Maybe cheering for the team will help get rid of the rage, you talk about it alot so why not do it. I’m far far far from being well off but I do it.

    Armchair boy

  264. Consolsbob,

You should be saying that to your buddy, the big bullying yob frank

  265. ….yep I am a big bullying yob….I am pleased that you feel bullied, Arsehole21……and I love to take out people like you…..it is my hobby…..if you were a real supporter you would be out there trying to improve and increase support…defending the manager, the players…but you can’t do that……you are an impotent supporter…..non-productive….

….2million…that is the number of supporters the club estimates that it has around the world..the ground has room for 60000 less away support…..it is important that those in the ground support the players…..it is very important that those that cannot get to the games support the club in anyway possible…..particularly on blogsites…otherwise the club is under a constant barrage…not only from the press and media….

  266. …you still don’t get it do you, Arsehole21…..you can’t get it otherwise you would not keep falling for it…..your responses lead me to conclude that you don’t have the wit…but after all this time I would have thought that the penny would have dropped even for you…..

  267. Arse21,
You might go to matches, and you might not. If you do, it doesn’t mean you support the team. I might go to a brothel, but it doesn’t mean I support the whores. I just go to f*ck them.

  268. Just going to change position, this armchair is almost worn out. Ah, that’s better.. Now, where’s that off switch?

  269. …I doubt if he does, Pz….not many anyway….if he has a season ticket it is probably one of the seats which is perenially empty…..

  270. Another fine morning on ACLF… Yogi! We can’t step on the ‘flaming turd’.. couldn’t you just possibly ‘moderate’ the kiddie for a month or so..
Free speech has to have some limits.

Nice one Frank, Cbob, and Pz.. but man, it wears one down. And now he’s spawned, it seems. Lord, lay me down!

  271. COME ON YOU RIP ROARING REDS!

  272. Funny analogy ever, PZ. I think Emirates is like an S&M brothel for some of Arsenal’s “clients”. They get to groan in agony and be humiliated in public by demonstrating that they’re the worst fans around. Conversely, if it’s their thing, they get to abuse on young men.

AW summed it up as misplaced love!

  273. Funniest analogy…

  274. It is a fine morning Pb. Sun is shining, supporters of the best club in the world, q/f’s of the Champion’s league, Blackburn to stuff on the ‘morrow, hens laying like good ‘uns.

Few rodents in the compost but that can be sorted.

  275. The best riposte ever on ACLF. Nice one Poliziano.

  276. ….very nice day in London…bit cloudy…but a nice temperature….the smell of Spring is in the air…

…really looking forward to tomorrow…..seeing the lads back from their travels…..they deserve a standing ovation…..oh and away fans…those in Rome….my applause goes to you too…..if you were one of the ones screaming your head off for the players….I salute you…as they did on the day….you added that little bit of confiedence that helped them through…..

    ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL

  277. Spring. When a young man’s thought turn to love and an old man’s to the FA Cup Final.

  278. True, Consols..
As you say it’s a fine day, and to see the flip side, one does atleast get some genuine wit from the good people on here. Pest control turned into an Art form.

  279. Mind you Wharfarin still works pretty well. We have to ask ourselves if the exercise of our wit is worth it on certain specimens.

“Like feeding a donkey strawberries”, as my old Dad would have said.

  280. The Arnchair, by unknown.

I sat and watched her many a day,
When her eye grew dim, and her locks were grey :
And I almost worshipped her when she smiled,
And turned from her Bible, to bless her child.
Years rolled on; but the last one sped–
My idol was shattered; my earth-star fled :
I learnt how much the heart can bear,
When I saw her die in that old Arm-chair.

  281. Very nice Arse21. Got a sensitive side, have you?

  282. Consolsbob,

I am a poet, thats no mine though.

    Here’s one of mine -

    The Doughnut, By Arse21

    Sugar atmosphere,
    Jam at the core,
    Munch them like a piggy,
    Till theres no more

  283. Wowed into silence.

  284. Well, I asked a question. The better team won in the Roma-Arsenal tie, 210 minutes played plus penalties. It’s so simple. I reckon we are all agreed, even the idiots, and the dolts, and … and probably 90% of Roma support.

So we are in final 8 this year in Europe on merit.

What is so poor in this accomplishment that Crab Cake and his friends must rubbish the efforts. It is cause of celebration, is it not?

The thing is … Arse 21, you masquerade behind the jokes, but the reality is that you are annoyed that this is not a ‘proper english’ team in your perspective. That is what all this is about, not football, not Arsenal.

Two things Frank has said are perfectly true, and will be proven. One is that this is the best squad Arsenal has ever put together (well since I have supported, 70/71, the double). And secondly that Arsenal is an international football club. The support in Africa alone would fill the stadium several times over, with passion, every week.

I am offended. Seriously. That’s not easy to do.

I have watched my team, which I have supported every season from 1970 (when I was 12) just three times, in 1977 (v Coventry), in 2008 (Liverpool) and 2009 (Bolton). I am considered very, very lucky in Africa. It costs the same for me to see my team once as for you to see them all season. You are not poor Arse21. You don’t know the meaning of that. Oh, if only you could how we congregate in bars wearing our Emirates T-shirts and shout ourselves silly, and laugh and joke. We are SO PROUD of Arsenal.

I have to say that a few elements of the ‘home-base’ support, typified by Arse 21 and Spoiled Brat are deeply insulting to us in Africa.

But you see Arse21 and SBrat, you don’t represent Arsenal anymore. We do. It is our club now. We are the future. We are in Lagos and Lahore, Hackney and Harare, Trinidad and Zanzibar, St. Petersburg and Paris. You are in a tiny minority, but very loud with your mouths.

Go away you fleas. Your minds are too small. That is why the mouth takes over, like a spoiled child. You amuse us because we laugh AT your idiocy and how you are manipulated by media.

  285. There is so much wisdom in Africa.

Very well said indeed, Zimpaul my friend. My first real season at Highbury was 1970/71 too.

You make me proud to be an Arsenal supporter. I would love to share a beer with you in one of those bars one day.

  286. Hi ZP,

There’s a new blog. Think you should paste that post on there because it should be read.

  287. Zimpaul,

That was good post, but you’ve read me wrong.

Nothing you can say will change the fact that Eboue’s shite

  288. Well said Zimpaul. You’re a star!!

  289. If Eboue was english he would be considered, at worst, a much loved and frustrating talent, gifted running with the ball at his feet, an excellent overlapping defender, fast, athletic and yet somewhat erratic talent. Articles would be written about this great english potential, his ability to change a game, how defenders fear him, and how this can best be exploited. He would be on the fringes of the national side, as an impact player. He would be worth a fortune. You would be proud of him. You would never boo him.

  290. ZimPaul,

If Eboue was english he’s be sold, but thats a whole different argument

  291. If we beat Blackburn, we go 4th. But let’s not expect any favours from the scum. Don’t count on the totts to beat Villa for us.
