AW On Transfers & West Ham Preview

Arsene summed it all up neatly:

I do not like it [the transfer window]. Every press conference is a bore about players who might come in than about the players who play and do something for the Club

Hear, hear dear boy. It was obviously a quiet news day yesterday when Sky Sports News fell hook, line and sinker for a jolly japester’s wheeze that Arshavin had been granted a Work Permit, denied later by Arsene at his press conference. Even so, his statement was rather more bullish about the deal:

Whether we are close or not has little meaning – it does not matter how close you are, what is important is that you agree. At the moment, we have no agreement with anybody for any transfer. But we have not applied for a work permit yet for anybody. Not for Arshavin or anybody else.

Which pretty much puts the mockers on this morning’s planned early headlines like “Ars-havin him” or some such pun. Any further dealings are being kept quiet in the usual Arsenal way, hinted at in the final sentence of the above quote but any hopes that were held of others coming in were, not extinguished, but certainly dampened:

We are always confident, we try our best but we respect our budget. If we can find an agreement, we will do it, if we cannot we will not overspend what we have planned to do.

Another brickbat with which he will be beaten next week by those who demand that we sign someone and ‘an extra £3m is not that much, so why not just give it to them‘, the latter part of which I won’t even dignify with an acerbic comment.

Wenger also re-affirmed his faith in the squad, for the umpteenth time this season:

Finishing outside the top four does not worry me at the moment because we have a very good opportunity to be in there. I am very positive and believe very strongly in my squad – why should we consider all of the negative aspects of the season? I do not want to prove everybody wrong, I want to prove that I am right to believe in my players and in my squad, that is all.

He didn’t quite have a ‘seagulls following the trawlers‘ moment but was on dubious ground when comparing it to burning buildings. He left himself open to a tough summer when he said:

I try to give my best and put my players in a condition where they believe in their strengths. We have a very young team who are doing well, but why should we always face a catastrophe? We have all the positive reasons to believe in our future. If at the last day of the season, we are not in there, then I will take all of your questions, and [accept] all of my responsibilities.

It is, of course, the only time that he should be judged; the final points will have been counted and the roads to Wembley and Rome ended. To some though, failure this season is going to require that he be tarred and feathered, dragged from Traitor’s Gate to the stadium where he will be hung, drawn and quartered. And that is just for failing to get the team to Wembley in the Carling Cup…

Onto West Ham. A positive result this afternoon is required against a team that has turned itself around from the time of the Arsenal win at Upton Park back in November. I am not sure that I am overly concerned by the performance either; three points is king and if that is as a result of the ball ricocheting into the West Ham net for the winner, via the referee’s arse, I’ll take that for the decisive goal. Villa enterain Wigan, United have their traditional three points against Everton whilst Liverpool and Chelsea meet – the points simply matter more.

The proximity of the Cardiff replay means that Arsene is going to shuffle things around. It is widely accepted that Toure will come in for Gallas in the heart of the defence but I doubt there will be any other changes there. It is tough on Toure for his form with Djourou has been no worse than Gallas’ with same defensive partner. I suppose JD could be rested with Song dropping back but that seems unlikely.

I suspect Arsene is going to put more emphasis on this result than Tuesday’s so midfield will most likely contain he usual culprits. If he is going to change it around, I would suggest resting Denilson (not for any other reason than I quite like the following notion) and moving Nasri into the centre with Vela on the left. It won’t happen so I suspect it will be Denilson and Diaby in the middle as the defensive requirements are not as crucial as in an away match. You need to protect your back four but expectations must be that West Ham will sit back.

The line-up will be something like:

Almunia; Sagna, Toure, Djourou, Clichy; Eboue, Denilson, Diaby, Nasri; van Persie, Adebayor

Enjoy the match wherever you are watching it.

  1. Yogi- I like the pun “ARS-Havin Him” you should use it for your next blog. Most Arsenal fans were not too concerned if we didn’t sign Andrew Arshavin but just the thought of a line up like this
Walcott- Fabregas- Nasri- Arshavin- Eduardo-RVP making me drool already. I can’t wait to see it. it will scare the hell out of many defenders an absolute nightmare to defend against. Zola said he is copying the Arsenal model in terms of youth and good football and it starting to show the last game they looked good but he’ll be against his master today and we will show them how its done.

  2. Just pay the money….how much has Wenger lost by not signing up players in the last few years? We lost 14 M on Palacios, about 15M on Flamini, and we coulda had Gourcayeff from Milan over the summer for Adebayor! That 29 million, plus Gourcayeff and 10-15 million more for Ade, we coulda bought Eto’o. Imagine, Eto’o, Gourcayeff and 20-22M!

  3. Gourcuff! I suck at spelling, but if he woulda been at The Arsenal, I woulda gotten it right. Best goal all year…

that link doesn’t work, but just youtube his last goal, amazing!

  4. You believe in your current squad Arsene Wenger, I believe in you man.

  5. Why so many suggestions that Nasri – in absence of Fab – should play in the middle and Vela out left ? … It’s exactly what is needed to add creativity, and it is hard for me to believe that AW doesn’t see it.
Oh well, get 3 points tonight or even Arshavin doesn’t help much anymore this season.

  6. Hmm … Walcott- Fabregas- Nasri- Arshavin- Eduardo-RVP (Le Gunner) … that indeed should give nightmares to any defense … and then Vela, Wilshere, Ramsey to step in anytime … but I’m afraid we might see this only next year :(

  7. Hmmm… If you’re expecting us to sit back, you may be in for a shock. Looking forward to an entertaining afternoon.

  8. RVP….Click..Click..Click

  9. Leftpinky,

It is rather silly of you to list a bunch of players that we should have signed to them sell them on. Yes, we could have had those. We also should have signed messi at age five and Buffon while still in the womb. Nobody and I mean nobody in world football has extracted more value in the transfer market than wenger. Enough to say that toure clichy djourou fabregas all came in for under one million.

Wigan might just cause villa trouble. Ditto everton for Manu. And Chelsea and Liverpool will draw cause that’s what they do. We might just pick up two points on all of them.

  10. It isn’t like signing Buffon or Messi at age five, these were distinct possibilities and Wenger just messed up. Still one of the best managers in the world, but he’s messed up and needs to spend the extra money to win. Would have been to sign someone who isn’t cup-tied, but making the champions league should be the priorty for the season at this point. If we catch up to ManU, then we can think of the title, but not now.

Everton may get a point, but it’s going to be hard since they don’t really create much, but we’ll see. Pool and Chelsea probably will draw 1-1, but know knows. I’d rather Pool not make the Champions league since money is way more important to them than to Chelsea, and Yanks may be forced to sell at a cut price deal.

  11. Malaysiangunner

    Good one Yogi

Wishing all Chinese bloggers a Prosperous Chinese New Year.

AW has made the decision to trust his team and by the end of the season he will either take full credit if we do win something and stayed in the top four or take full responsibility if we win nothing and do not qualify for the CL. Do no be fooled by the PR that not making the CL is of no consequence. IT will cost us 40 Mio pounds and the ability to attract any good players and retain good players that feel they want the CL to prove themselves.

With the property prices tumbling and UK in a full blown recession, Highbury flats will suffer defaults but to what extend it is unclear to me just yet. So the monies coming in from participating in the CL will be much needed.
The board and AW has chosen to save 3 to 5 million punds here and there which is their perogative and also it will be upon their head for decisions made that proof to be our dropping away from the top four.

Plse make no bones about it, AW has brought the Arsenal lots of glory and have been lauded and paid handsomely for the success that he has brought us. He has earned his right to make those hard decisions and for the club to follow his way of doing things.

But in life, business and football the last question to any one is What have you done for us lately?

    Up The Arse!!!

  12. Breaking News

Arshavan on his way to London on BA flight. Medical is expected at London Colney today.

Hope and pray he’ll help improve quality in the team which has sung so low to midtable team level.

  13. Queen of Suburbia

Not many teams in the mid-table go on long unbeaten runs Howard.

We’re not at our scintillating best at the moment but we are getting results.

I’m confident of three points today. Nobody can handle RVP at the moment.

  14. You’re quite a good stick really, Queen of Suburbia.

  15. QoS, Big Al,

This post is in response to a debate you were having about LG and thwir attempt at ‘commercial success’.

    1) As Big Al points out, there has always been an almost irrational pride at LG about logging the most number of comments. Never mind that half of those comments would be guys saying 1st, 2nd…last etc. The other half of the comments would feature Geoff saying ‘Alex Song is at the root of the world’s problems’.

    2) QoS, you wouldnt have failed to notice the ‘ticket exchange’ that LG features on their site. You actually think there are no profit margins involved in that?

    3) Arsenal blogging is already quite commercialised. As you know, Arse Blog is paid by Ole Ole for his services and he has revealed that fact openly. Is it inconceivable to think that blogs taking a virulently anti arsenal board and Wenger line could be on the payroll of vested interests?

  16. Not many mid-table teams are in the top five in the table…

  17. …Villa is the only one I can think of.

    What a f***ing fantsatic day to be a Gooner…oh yes…..

  21. Such relief when I saw the big transfer news this morning. It`s been rumbling on for ages. Thank God it`s almost over.

    Charles N`Zogbia is joining Wigan.

  22. Yeah apparently AA is on a flight to London & its not like ‘Skysports understands’ they are stating it as a fact. May be we might see him (in action?) in the Cardiff match then.

  23. F.Frederick Skitty

This from Arseblog made me chuckle:

“Finally for today, a cheery tale. It turns out that Sp*rs, for the game next weekend, have sold tickets to Arsenal fans at the wrong price. £10 less than they should have done, in fact. When the Arsenal box office sent out the tickets to Arsenal fans they included a letter saying fans should do the right thing and pay the extra tenner.

I think we all know what the ‘right’ thing to do here, is don’t we? What are you going to spend your tenner on then?”

    Up the Arse!

  24. It’s funny how gradually more and more people are coming round to this idea of Vela playing on the left. Other people have been suggesting this for some time; some tried to call for it during the Wigan game while others felt so strongly, that in an attempt to get this to happen, they actually booeed,. I was vilified on this site for suggesting a three pronged attack of Vela, Ade, RVP. The idea was met with the site’s favourite put down are you at the training ground every day. I note how the owner of this site suggests that it might be a good idea but despairs of it happening. This is so obvious you might be getting closer to understanding why some of us get a tad frustrated at times with our manager.

  25. Unbelievable, London…unbefuckinglievable…

  26. …that has to be one of the most stupid posts I have read in a long time….

  27. Nothing new about playing Vela on the left London. More, the concensus has been that he is too slight at this stage in his carreer to start there and would also not provide enough cover for the defence given the already makeshift nature of our midfield.

Why try and turn your point into a dig at posters on this site and Wenger? Your suggestion is hardly world shattering in it’s boldness or novelty.

  28. I’m not taking the bait.

  29. You said it so much more simply than me Frank. All we need now is Passenal to come on and say it in three words.

  30. Curses! He’s spotted our cunningly concealed trap.

  31. …you should have seen the post awaiting moderation….poor thing will never see the light of day…

  32. Jesus H. Christ! It’s not rocket science. I think he is an option, but not necessarily the answer.

Vela started left against Porto, and didn’t do much at all. I’m not suggesting that performance conclusive proof that he can’t start in this position, but…

As I see it, Vela, being a natural striker, wouldn’t really offer as much defensive cover down the left. This wouldn’t be normally be a problem, but most people want to see Nasri moved to the middle.

I think that side would offer a bit more zip, but it would be a very reckless line-up to take to a premiership away game. Defensively very brittle.

I prefer him as an impact sub – running (which he does well) at tired defences.

The big problem with fans at the moment is that everyone on the bench is the solution. It’s just another way of attacking Wenger and the players he picks.

  33. …’bait?’…..more like a f***ing broadside, son…..you don’t have a choice about taking it….

  34. …that’s interesting….woops is an Americanised version of whoops

  35. …sorry for those in the US….Americanized

  36. …don’t mean I am sorry for those in the US…that would be very patronising….I mean patronizing….OR for Burb……matronising…sorry I mean matronizing…

  37. “For what we are about to recieve..”

Are you a Hornblower fan Frank?

  38. …sorry it is the excitement…I am so happy to be going to the game today…..what a thrill….I love London derbies….and I love Arsenal….and how great is this…I hate West ham…..not Zola though…like him…but the rest of West Ham…especially the supporters…….hate em….

    ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL

  39. Hornblower….well I liked the books as a child….rip-roaring stuff….hated Hornblower being played by an American though in the films…..nothing against Americans but you know Hornblower was quintessentially English……..the TV series though not very faithful to the books was fun…..trouble is the principal actor in that was Welsh…and well…hrrrrummpphh…er…welll…you know….

  40. Frank, you are clearly a life long Arsenal fan who always chooses to see the good rather than the bad. What’s to dislike? I repeat: I have the utmost respect for your unswerving loyalty.

  41. Is “hate em” an Americanised version of “f*cking hate em?”

  42. In the Belgian version of Hornblower, the hero is played by none other than Mary-Anne Fellatio.

  43. …..I am sure you are too, London…but Big Al and Cb expressed themselves better than me….I am just a f***ing oaf…don’t you think though that AW who works with the players 24 hours a day, seven days a week and who brought Carlos Vela into the side before any of us knew he existed and arranged for him to play in Spain as prep etc etc…might have slightly more insight into when and where he should play to best effect in the short, medium and long term……than you

  44. Sorry, Mary is an Anglicised version of Marie.

  45. …thats Anglicized, Americans…ok

  46. I was responding to Yogi’s post above in which he expresses a desire to see Vela play on the left but despairs in the knowledge that it won’t happen today.

  47. …don’t worry about it, London…we all know you are a star…and importantly a Gooner…oh yes

  48. I am so dis-illusinoed with my club right now, this is not the rant of someone who doesn’t understand how the club is run or someone who boo’s or moans at his own team I back them non stop and all the way but there comes a point when I can’t take it no more.
We have the same problems that have not been addressed from the beggining of the season, we need a dominant strong central midfielder and a dominant strong centre back, Wenger said himself that Song is not a midfielder at the AGM, Kolo and Gallas cannot play together and its been known for a long time, we are short wide and I am sorry but Eboue would not even get in another premiership team let alone a supposed top 4 team,I’d rather play Wilshire wide than Eboue, I am not sure what buying Arshavin would achieve and the fact it has taken a whole month to try and sign a player is a joke, we have Walcott and Van Persies contract up and we hear the same line from Wenger that he spouted about Flamini “he wants to stay and we want him to stay so he’ll sign” would you sign if you were Theo? Wenger has left us short in the squad and not addressed the age old problems, if every other club and fan knows how to beat us what does that say about us, there are 2 players that would make the invincibles squad Sagna and Fabregas, everyone else is not good enough either now or won’t be in future, Diaby is a failed experiment and loses the ball too much, Adebayor has hit fat contract now and don’t care, I really am tired of it and watching Arsenal is not enjoyable anymore, I really love Wenger and everything he has achieved and I blamed a lot of this on Wenger not having money at the start of the year but now with Arshavin why could he not spend the 12 million on people like Kompany who he is a big fan of and can play centre mid and centre back equally well, he would have joined us instead of City no problem.

  49. You are in fact named after my favourite place, London….I mean London,London….that is favorite for the Americans…oh and that is London, England, Americans… ..in the whole wide world…..and for those that don’t yet know it…..Highbury is in London….how fantastic is that…my favourite football club plays in my favourite place….and…and this is the best bit…I live in London…how f***ing convenient is that…..almost makes you want to believe in a god…or a god…….

  50. …what a star you are, Muppet….

  51. I don’t think anybody has managed to carry off the depiction of ‘Fighting sail’ on film. never looks convincing. never enough extras acting convincingly either.

A bit like that Sharpe series where you get Colonels commanding about 6 men of which one is a Lieutenant and one is a Colour Sargeant. Meanwhile cavalry charges are reduced to a few blokes who have never ridden a horse before struggling to move their nags away from grazing the grass and waving a bit of tin about.

Did Claude van Damne (?) play Hornblower Pz?

  52. …I suppose we should be thankful that they are real horses……..seriously feisty wenches in Sharpe don’t ya think?….

  55. F-4 PhantomPhreak

I so not understand why AW thinks that our midfield is strong enough to compete? Maybe it’s only me and then again maybe it isn’t… When we lost Cesc I knew right then and there that the combo of Song/Denilson wasn’t good enough to boss the midfield, and even though we aren’t far off the top spots we are just as far away as well; meaning we are average at best. Where is the fluent movement of the ball, most of our passes end up to the oppnents and if not then they just get the ball snatched off their feet. I love the Arsenal, but I’m not one bit concerned about being in the title hunt because if you believe we are then I feel sorry for you, all I’m concerned about is 4th place and thats what ALL of us should be concerned about, or UEFA beckons next season and we won’t have no one but Song/Denilson to rely on cause the rest will scoot and no one other than the Jimmy Bullard types will consider Arsenal next season. Call it doom or gloom if you want, and I’m NOT calling for AW’s head, he is the man but does he have the plan??

  56. Cheers BtH, I’m glad you’re concerned about our vitamin intake.

    -

    LOL Muppet,

That was tough! One of my faves is “Thanks for everything Wenger, but it’s time to go”.

    -

I heard that English people only started saying ‘barth’ for ‘bath’ after people left for America. It became fashionable in Kent about 200 years ago. I guess southerners have it wrong and Americans say it correctly.

‘Gotten’ is OK English as well, even though you don’t see it in the UK much.

  57. What is a French Horn called in France? Is it just, un horn? In which case, what is a car horn called? Un horn anglaise?

I know The Hornblower translates as La Femme de Paris.

  58. BtH….we are a tolerant bunch here…but we are playing West ham today…this is not the time to start chanting for gay rights now, is it….come on…join in with me…..ARSENAL, ARSENAL, ARSENAL, ARSENAL

  59. Is F4 Phantom Freak the new Muppet? or is Life imitating Art?

I don’t know Pz but I went to a local Hunt last year which had invited a French Hunt along. They called the hounds with a French Horn. With typical French over embellishment the call to hounds was a three minure Horn solo. The English Master responded with a two note blast!

Hang on. I hope no one sees any anti Wenger sentiment in my little story. Mercy.

I have also read that the americans, or at least those in some parts, where ethnic germans for instance do not dominate, speak English closer to Elizabethan english that we do as they, being poor primitive types exiled from the Motherland, were cut off from any subsequent development of the language.

Was I alone in hearing Devon accents in the long running saga of Texas oil folks ‘Dallas’?

  60. Is F4 the new Muppett or is Life imitating Art?

  61. I don’t know Pz. I do know that at a joint hunt last year attended by some French riders they called the hounds with a French Horn. They blew that horn for a very embellished three minute solo to which the English master responded with a two note blast. Very funny but you probably had to be there.

Obviously I do not think that all French people are funny. Certainly not some football managers and players.

Apparently, in those parts of the States where English descendants are the majority they speak english closer to Elizabethan English than we do. Cut off from further development of the language, you see.

I always thought that I could hear Devon in that long running saga of Texan folk, Dallas.

When Cesc went down? You realize we have been on a hell of a run since Cesc went down. Our dip in form occured before cesc got hurt.

  66. Seeing Eboue in that line up is so much depressing…i am not typical eboue basher…but if we cant keep him out with all those horrible performance there is some issue with our squad…if wenger can bring in wilshere or ramsey..then persisting so long with youngsters may not be such good idea..or relying on them wudnt be..gosh i want arshavin to join else..else i see depressing season for us…

and am so happy that mgt r realising that we have good chance of missing cl next year..just realising it make me feel ok..

  67. Good morning people. Add one more to the list of contradictory statements from the press:

    -Arshavin is in London
-Arshavin is not, and never was, in London

  68. QOS, Big Al

This is in response to a short debate you guys had earlier regarding the other site and their ‘commercial interests.’

    1) As Big Al points out, there has always been an almost irrational pride at that site about logging the highest number of comments. Almost like a newspaper boasting about their circulation numbers. Never mind that half of the comments would feature guys saying “1st!”, 2nd…and so on. The other half of the comments would feature Ge$ff proving how Alex Song is at the heart of the world’s problems today.

    2) QoS, you would not have failed to notice a ‘ticket exchange.’ at that site. You actually think there is no profit margin in their trading of tickets?

    3) Arsenal blogging has become quite commercialised already. Some bloggers like AB are paid to blog by Ole Ole. Is it inconcievable to think that some virulently anti Wenger and board blogs are on the payroll of vested interests?

  73. Theo gets a bit of a grilling from a 6-year-old boy:

Jack: I remember Arsenal were top of the league last season. And then they just started going down.

TW: Yeah, I think every team has a bad spell and we just had our bad spell at the end of the season when you don’t really want it. We’re sort of in the mid-table now really, so hopefully we’re going to be right up there at the end of the season.

Jack: You haven’t been there for quite a while.

    TW: Sorry?

Jack: Ever since I’ve been watching you, you keep on like [does hand gestures] up, down, up – it’s like a big sea.

TW: Well, we’re only six points off! [Laughs] Everyone’s beating each other. So, hopefully, we’ll do it. You never know. It’s a long season still.

Jack: Yeah. They’ve never been down, like, in the relegation zone.

TW: No, that won’t happen. Don’t worry about that.

  74. Van Persie is on the bench. What is Wenger thinking? This is a must-win!

  75. He can’t play 270 minutes in six days. I think it’s normal. We had to rest someone.

  76. Everyone wants to see the best player in the world on the pitch, but, as NEN says, he can’t play every match. Bendtner has looked excellent of late, so there’s no need to worry.

  77. Nice one Stoke.. Citeh in all kinds of trouble.

  78. Yet again..can’t find a free stream…anyone able to help ?

  79. Ponyboy,

    try this:

  80. A R S E N A L

  81. Tough Cookie – would be lost without you !

    Big KISS !

  82. No.. it’s like MTV..ah well. Thanks anyway !

  83. Pb,

    http://free-tv.tk/
arsenal match is on about in the middle.
just pause every other stuff’s going on!

  84. Yeah!! Got it – cheers, TCookie. Really appreciated..

  85. this is good just in case
    http://fusefry.com/44.html

  86. West Ham have parked the bus so far.

  87. Seriously.

Eboue was playing well until he got kicked out of the game. And I guess the Vela theory gets put to the test now.

  88. It’s a shame Garrincha had to go off. I thought he was playing well. West Ham hacked him down almost every time he got the ball, so it’s little wonder he got injured. Still, it means a chance for Vela.

  89. I’m watching on
    http://livefooty.doctor-serv.com/sat31.1/Arsenal_WestHam.html

if that’s any help to anyone

  90. from the little bit i caught vela seems to be brought down alot too.. ref isnt helping tho..

  91. we back off too much when defending, i think.

  92. dissapointing

  93. good result!! clean sheet. unbeaten run goes on.

  94. We battered them. Absolutely battered them.

How many last ditch tackles by WH?

    It was just ridiculous!

Nasri, Diaby and Denilson were excellent – they ran that midfield today.

  95. 10 unbeaten..and villa drop points..what else do we need..

  96. Yeh Big Al, that what makes it hard to take – we played well.

  97. F. Frederick Skitty

Well we got that elusive clean sheet! At least Villa drew.

I thought we weren’t too bad to be honest and the Hammmers played well. Disappointing result nonetheless.

  98. Very disappointing. The fact of the matter is that Arsenal need points now and they aren’t getting them. Wigan somehow drew with Villa so there were two points on offer against a team that should be beaten at home. West Ham are playing better of late but that is no excuse. Arsenal lacked a cutting edge around the box, too often passing across the field when attacks on the defense were warranted. If this current pattern of drawing rather than winning continues I fear it will be tough to make ground up on Villa. One can only hope that Villa make a good run in the UEFA cup because their bench is not as deep as ours.

  99. lets hope Man U drop points aslo.

  100. It would have been good to give RvP a complete rest. At least Eduardo’s back soon.

  101. It doesn’t help when other teams drop points and Arsenal don’t pick up any. I would say that we just dropped two points, only mitigated by the fact that Villa didn’t win. Wigan cleared at least three balls off the line and I still can’t fathom how Villa didn’t score. Arsenal were lucky today not to find themselves 7 points back of Villa.

  102. We need our creative players back to unlock these defenses. RVP should start every match and come out at the end. He is too hot to sit him for me. Bendtner can come in off the bench or sit Ade, he must play.

  103. 5 wins 5 draws! thats erm…form. some kind of form.

  104. Big Al, I dont think you can rest your best players when you are fighting – take him out early but we need points now and cannot really afford to drop points – 4 points this week, not good enough for the position we are in.

  105. With van Persie’s injury record, Wenger is never going to play him every match.

  106. Parking the bus is an understatement Muppet. 10men behin the ball at all times. West Ham came for the draw, defended in numbers and shut us out. We did try to knock on the door with Ade havin the two best chances but just not burying them.On the positive we tried a bit harder in the second half. What is frustrating is West ham were there for the taking in the second half.

  107. NOT a good result. But we played OK. A shame really.

  108. Is that the case PZ, forget that we need him in the match. We cant get those points back.

Just my veiw anyway, RVP had some freak injuries and was brought back too soon. He played anyway so he may have wel started.

  109. This team plus Arshavin will be brilliant. We were much, much better than them. Eboue in the attacking midfield Lampard role was intriguingly excellent for a little bit, then completely anonymous, then he got injured. Try that again, though.

  110. wenger is right the prem is getting boring. every home game lately we know we are not going to lose, its just a case of if we can score.

  111. Eboue is an elegant player when on form, and his passing is quick and difficult for the opposition to anticipate. I hope he’s not badly injured.

Vela didn’t have the impact some fans had promised us. Maybe Wenger knows something after all.

  112. Vela had a great impact recently. No player plays well in every match.

  113. It’s very dissapointing when even teams like West Ham with Zola as their manager play like that.

OK so they didn’t lose but what is the point of football if it is not entertaining? The prem. has been going this way for a long time. What was the last really good game that anybody can remember watching?

Too many teams getting in the faces of the better teams. Too many refs sympathetic to that approach. Too much stuff in the media praising it so that fans of these clubs believe that they have played well. In another time they would have been barracking their own teams for the poor entertainment.

I will obviously change my mind if we grind out a 0-0 to win the Prem!

  114. lets bring back simpson from his loan spell and give them bendtner.

  115. Bob, its as much financial these days – for most teams in the PL just not getting relegated in a big deal. Football will only get worse unless you implement some type of rule that causes teams to play.

  116. I thought Bendtner had another good game today. He contributed to some great moves down the right.

  117. Duke, Simpson looks the real deal!

  118. I think they need to change something so that clubs are not so financially doomed if they go down. up the money in the championship. cut the league down and get rid of the stokes and the yi…oh wait …spuds. or just create the european league, something has to be done because there are to many shite games.

  119. Blimey, the fox is in the henhouse on LG.
Care to guess who gets the most vitriol poured over him?

  120. the team played good apart from a few stray passes but we needed something special like wednesday.

  121. played well, that is – my wife always corrects me.

  122. As soon as a team gets into the Premiere League, they start spending money like they’ll always be there, and then they can’t afford relegation. The high-profile bankruptcies we’re all eagerly awaiting might change things.

  123. Is it Adebayor, bob?

  124. maybe make it 4 points for a win!

  125. I know that you are right Paul but three teams will go down however negatively they play. Do they really stay up by grinding out a few results against us? How much longer can the Prem. sell itself as a top quality product? Eventually it will spill over into lower attendances and lower TV contracts. We ain’t rich any more.

The mindset of managers and fans has to change.

Football is meant to be entertainment.

  126. Spot Pz. You must be psychic.

  127. maybe only two go down!

  128. I agree Bob, I think its better to try to do the right thing and lose more than play crap and maybe still go down. How can teams learn to play good football if they never try?

Well all the pundits in England agree with it(as you say) and applaud the defensive stance and makes it seem as if it is good football overall. You know – “you heve to get stuck in”, “play to your strenghts” and all that bull.

The fans (except for the teams) are the ones who are not taken into account as they pay to watch a one sided match, its a shame!

  129. It’s a disgrace and will be the death of top level football in this country.

  130. Our place in the CL grop is in danger. The form Ade is not helping the team at all. Ade looks so average and has no fight in him.

Diaby played very well and if he can continue like that then he could be the tower of strength in the midfield. His direct approach is far better than Denilson’s backpasses and sideways passes approach.

I hope Diaby’s injury is not bad enough.

Ade should be sold in the summer; he doesn’t deserve to be paid 80k per week. He’s confirmed to some of us that he is one season wonder.

  131. Duke, I just think the football powers need to complain about it, at least for starters, its a crying shame and disgrace that these dudes get paid to stand in front of their goal.

  132. The whole team played well today, and it’s unfair to blame one player because we didn’t get the result we wanted.

Denilson in particular caught my eye today, as he has so often before.

  133. The crisp, unerring passes of Denilson are a joy to behold. They make the telegraphed punts of Gerrard look comical by comparison.

  134. I agree PZ, no blame game foolishness.

  135. Vidic has apparently caught an eyeful of Fellatio’s public head.

  136. F. Frederick Skitty

I think beating Cardiff and, especially Tottenham, will go a long way towards the shift up from draws to victories.

If we keep on this unbeaten run and make clean sheets the norm, anything is still possible.

I thought our defensive play was good today and that we really battled. I feel we need one really convincing performance in order to really kick on.

I can’t wait for the next games!

  137. hat should be pubic head, not public head.

  138. That should be that, not hat.

  139. what do u guys think of vela’s ‘dive’?

  140. Thank God it wasn’t Eboue.

  141. There was little contact, i thought that was the way to do it.

  142. i felt he got sandwitched between two guys… definitely enough contact by one of them to be brought down…
    was a nice run tho…

  143. Watching Everton now. Much better to watch than Villa. No forwards on the pitch but they are attacking Manu. Good for them.

They don’t like Fellatio do they? Lots of sly fouls going on.

  144. didnt like the commentetors go ‘very theatrical’… fukkers..

  145. PZ,

I wouldn`t mind Gerrard making `telegraphed punts` for our side. He scores a few goals too.

Another game in the EPL where one team is intent on survival. I`m sure the pundits will say the Hammers dended heroically & it`s up to us to break them down but they`re not even in the bottom half of the table.

If we went to Upton Park & played like WH did today we`d be slaughtered by the media & rightly so.

  146. Diaby (Hopefully not badly injured) is becoming slowly but surely like a Vieira in the making.

Denilson was excellent, with a more composed shot he will be great. Contrary to the drivel of one (you know who you are).

Bendtner should have stayed on, Ade subbed.

Vela played a longer period than usual in a closed game, Wenger knows he is still young and will be given the PL harsh treatment by opposition (English Stupid Giants) and referees alike.

Eboue played well and was driving the team forward until injured.
    ===

It would’ve been nice to close the gap on Villa, but it remains the same…So, we move on and keep building on the run.

  147. I seem to remember that Fellatio gave the united defence a lot of problems earlier in the season.

  148. F. Frederick Skitty

I’m a little ambivalent about diving. I’d rather it didn’t exist, but I wouldn’t like everybody else to continue profiting from it to our disadvantage.

  149. I don’t care if people thought we played well. We couldn’t even score 1 at home and dropped 2 more points. At this rate we don’t have the time to wait for players to get back.

Diaby made some Paddy-like runs through midfield though which made me smile!

  150. I thought we played fairly well and that West Ham were incredibly negative. It was disturbing to hear how much praise they received from the announcing crew. They did nothing but defend, and it’s not like they’re some tiny club with no players. They’re a decent side and they offered nothing.

Agree with those who said these games are getting boring. Basically it’s a matter of hoping a bounce goes our way in the box. If it does, 1-0. If it doesn’t, 0-0.

I think we need a midfielder who can shoot at distance (or to try this strategy more often). We don’t have the ability to break down defenses consistently when they pack the box. Maybe nobody does. When you look at how teams like Liverpool and Chelsea snatch points from games like this, it’s often from a fantastic shot from Gerrard or Lampard or the like.

  151. As long as you give a point for a draw, smaller teams will always play defensively and nothing will change.

These teams know if they play against the top teams with an open game strategy, they will most likely lose all three points….so why not get one?

The only solution against those teams is to score early to open them up, the longer they stay without conceding the better for them. In many cases, they can even steal a goal from a corner or a set piece in the last few minutes and steal the whole 3 points.

So if we were West Ham, we probably would be very happy with this result.

  152. It wasnt that much of a dive, he did seem to be off balance a little. The commentators made it seem much worse than it was. Vela took some kicks and stood up all game.

  153. What did you expect!?!

  154. Diaby seems to be growing into a Viera reincarnate. Whoever advised him to alter his playing style has done a great job. He was really solid today and if he can continue to put his foot in and cut the dribbling then he’ s the best to team up with Captain FAB4.

I only pray that he can get over the injury and get down with it. Diaby has a physical presence and good ball control, his passes are incisive unlike Denilson. His shots at goal are very good.

We’ve found the Viera-like to partner Cesc at long last. I think his initial exposure at the wings has helped him.

  155. I meant that about Man U getting a penalty

  156. Howard,

Diaby is essentially an attacking player so you can’t pair him with Cesc in a 4-4-2 unless he learns to play more defensively.

Ade gave his usual lethergic and inept display.

  157. If I was a WHU fan G4E I’d be furious that we had no ambition given their proud record as a proper footballing club.

Stll, if even Zola has learnt to be afraid of losing after only a few months in the game, you have to fear for the future of football.

  158. Nice one Howard

  159. AIC.. i thought Diaby put in some good tackles n helped out alot while defending… he had a gr8 game…

  160. No. I don’t want Gerrard; I want Denilson.

  161. Howard.. nice…

  162. Howard.. any possibility that ‘whoever’ might be wenger? :)

  163. Diaby gave a good all-round midfield performance. Excellent dribbling.

  164. Alex Ice Cream

I get you, but that’s what Diaby is doing now, defending and attacking when he wins the ball, a box to box CM. Today he’s show that he can play in that position better than Denilson.

He’s taller so wins balls in the air
He’s more skilled and able to move away in difficult angles
He has immense shots in his legs
    He passes straight not sideways
    He runs and plays direct

If Diaby can do this, game by game, then he’s more qualified than anyone to partner the Captain when he returns.

Today is his best game in that position. Its like he listened well today. He was tackling all the time and moving the ball forward not sideways or backwards.

  165. Pz,

    Why mention Gerrard ?

    We played West Ham today

  166. That is one of the other Howards. I just do not believe that ‘Howard’ Howard would make such a post nor make it in a literate fashion.

There’s a wind up going on somewhere.

Wenger looked furious at the end and barely touched Zola’s hand. I think he wanted him to know that he was letting himself down. It must trouble Zola to play that stuff. I don’t believe that he can be as cynical as, say, Fat Sam yet.

  167. Sorry, pw, I didn’t know we were only allowed to mention players who were in the day’s opposing team.

This Howard is not so different. He’s just using Diaby as another weapon to attack Denilson.

  168. I’m told Diaby’s injury doesn’t look too good just as he’s beginning to show his capabilities. Few weeks away will take his current form backwards.

I’ve taken Diaby’s name out of the average players from today. I’m full of hope for Diaby.

    We should pray for him.

  169. I don’t know Pz.

I think he is right that Diaby is a potentially better partner for Cesc than Denilson. That’s not a criticism of Denilson, I just think that he is too similar to Cesc in so many ways, including physique. Diaby offers something else. Whether he can perform his defensive duties consistently is the key.

  170. Howard you a good soul? Deep down?

  171. Poliziano

You don’t understand me; I call white when I see white, rather than call it black to please fellow fans.

I’m not using Diaby to attack Denilson. I looked critically at Diaby today and can firmly say that with patience on our side, he’s the midfield solution.

Denilson is not the solution, Diaby is. Denilson is trying his best but the natural abilities that is required for that position is rest with Diaby than Denilson.

Diaby just need to focus on his game from today, avoid injuries and he’ll be the natural partner to Cesc.

    He proved it today

  172. PZ,

    Fair enough – just wondered

Pity about Diaby but he`s suspended for the Spurs game & may not have featured in the FA Cup game(s) so hopefully he`ll be back for the Sunderland match on Feb 21

  173. I was there today.

Ironically we played better today than we did against Bolton or Portsmouth.

Diaby did well, don’t know how bad his injury is, hope not too bad.
Bendy did well at right mid (again).

Eboue – some kind of headfit. In the 20 mins he was on the pitch, he played everywhere but right midfield, where he was supposed to. I really think he is having a football mental breakdown.

All the pro Vela people on here – you’re wrong, he’s not ready for a prem start – yet.

I think Wenger asked for trouble not starting with VP today. Not his finest decision. Rest him on tuesday v Cardiff, but resting him today was madness. And that’s not said with the benefit of hindsight, we all said it when the team was announced.

Ade – needs a kick up the backside. Missing the 2 best chances of the game is one thing, but his lack of mobility when team-mates had the ball and he wasn’t showing is really unacceptable.

And I thought Wenger had come to the conclusion that Toure/Gallas is not an ideal partnership ? It made no odds today because West Ham hardly had an attack – but Carlton Cole is about 6 ft 3 last time I looked.

    We need Arshavin.

Spurs see Defoe injured, out for maybe 8 weeks, and they immediately look to buy again. I just don’t get it. I’m all for living within your means – but this is getting ridiculous.

This time last week I was still thinking we were fighting for places 2 thru 4.
Now I’m thinking we are fighting for 4th only.

I’m a big AW fan. But he is worrying even me now.

  174. Should read:

natural abilities that are required for that position rest with Diaby than Denilson.

  175. Why didn’t you say before that you’d “looked critically at Diaby?” In that case, everything you say must be correct.

  176. Ade should have been sold last season.

3 seasons on, his first touch is still poor. He brings the ball back rather than taking it forward as a striker.

He’s shown his true colours this season, lazy and don’t fight for his colleagues and always complaining.

He doesn’t show any love yet he’s collecting 80K

  177. Matty, I appreciated your post until the last three paras. We don’t want to go where Sp*rs are going. Trust in Arsene.

    Don’t lose it friend.

Howard is starting to lose it, like that android in Alien. Short circuit.

    Fair point on Diaby though.

  178. The aim of a football team is to score goals, but that doesn’t mean that every player must continuously move himself or the ball in the direction of the goal. I should have thought that was too obvious to mention, but it seems not.

  179. You’re still a bit eggy Pz. Relax.

  180. I’m starting to see this game as a bit of an anomaly. That’s the best performance I’ve seen from us since around October – no kidding at all. We’ve been gradually improving over the last two months and it appears that things are falling into place (despite our absent players).

I think we all know that Ade is out of form at the moment. It looks like he’ll have a week’s rest so I hope that does him some good. Eduardo’s going to be an option in a couple of weeks, which should also create a bit more competition.

And one more thing. Does anyone here have the ‘arses’ on arseblog open during games?

Arseblogger’s really got it in for Eboue!

  181. Matty, how do you know where Eboue was “supposed” to play? Looked to me like he had a free role and he did very well at it initially.

  182. I do trust in Arsene Consolsbob, for all that has gone before, and for all the times I have second guessed him and he has turned out to be right.

I don’t want to be anything like the Spuds, if my post intimated that, it wasn’t my intention.
I just wonder where their money comes from.

Probably a knee jerk reaction to the frustration of the afternoon. I will be better in the morning.

But – in the morning I will still think that not starting with RVP was a big error.

  183. DON’T TELL ME TO RELAX!

  184. And don’t call me eggy.

  185. Lachter Football Agent

As your Boss likes to say, your team lacks a bit of sharpness in the final third at the moment. My client is still available if you are interested.

  186. Why is it that Vela has a bad game and he is not ready? I dont understand that.

The kid is ready, he needs more playing time!

  187. It’s very encouraging that WH’s pre-match game plan was to attack us – according to Steve Clarke at least. As it turned out, we forced them to sit back because we dominated the midfield and were efficient in defence.

Really, Denilson and Diaby were very good today.

  188. I so agree that not starting RVP was an error though.

  189. craft bison – I looked at the line-up.
then I looked at the team as they lined up as they kicked off.
then I looked at the massive hole on the right of midfield, as Eboue played inside left, left wing, centre forward, centre mid, everywhere but the big hole on the right.
then i watched Sagna shouting at him to get in front of him.
Then I watched Wenger doing the same.

the free role he had was in his head alone. the way the other ten players lined up made it clear he was supposed to be right mid, we had no one out there at all for 20 mins. other than when there was a break in play an Eboue wandered back to his correct position, only to forget it the moment play restarted.

  190. Zola also said he looked to model his team after Arsenal… uh?

  191. Paul N – Just an opinion re Vela. For me he had a big wasted opportunity today, and lacked spark, poise, composure, and didn’t make his pace tell.

But I do like him for the future, just gradually bring him on, gradually give him more game time. Especially in the Cups.

  192. There have been two twats on 606 so far saying Wenger has lost the plot, we are not a dominant side like Liverpool, etc. Green of course then compares Arsene with Benitez as managers who do strange things.

    What fans! What media!

God help us all. Anyone want to join me in forming the Ethical and Considered Media Company.

    Jamie Redknapp need not apply.

  193. Don’t be like that Pz.

I can supply you with all the free range eggs that you need. Sheesh, I’m just trying to make a living here.

    Very funny Lachter.

  194. West Ham fans are ringing in full of praise for their team and manager.

    God Help Us All. Again.

  195. Oh, I see. You don’t like me the way I am. Found someone else, have you?

  196. Frankly disappointed about the game.

    Diaby injured again?????
    Eboue as well????
    Vela did nothing???
    Denilson played well
    But we couldn’t score.
    Shit sucked!

Only the prospect of Arshavin excites me right now.
And even that ‘ll be over in a few
    …sigh

  197. I was at the game but I didn’t see how Diaby got injured, could someone explain. Thanks

  198. Poliz – please relax!!

For the first – and last – time, am pleased with Kevin Davies.

  199. DON’T TELL ME TO RELAX!

  200. Howard @ 6.46

    I will pray for you.

  201. Looked as though he landed badly, London – but was watching it on an unclear stream.. no-one hit him though.

  202. Poliziano,

    Calm down!

  203. Polizi – please calm down..Consols eggs, my valium…whip ‘em up!! :-)

  204. NO I WON’T CALM DOWN!

  205. Eggy doesn’t begin to describe him.

Ring up Alan ‘The Mouth’ Green. Take it out on him.

Eggs and valium Ponyboy? I don’t know. Young people today.

  206. I’ve always said it. That Kevin Davies is a star.

  207. Well, Polizi…just mellow out..Queen of Suburbia will be on soon with her comfort blanket..

~ Well, am thinking of something stronger now… maybe some Rohypnol ?

  208. Sorry. My Anima took over for a while there.

  209. Rohypnol? No, I’m not going to Wales again.

  210. I think I’ll stay clear of Queen of Suburbia. I don’t want her to beat me with her rolled up copy of Cosmopolitan.

  211. Nice article from ‘holic on how I’m sure many feel tonight. Rather wistful and sad.

    http://goonerholic.com/?p=1532#comment-24426

  212. Don’t go there Pz.

Remenber what happened last time. That woman is mean.

  213. Dammit – am laughing!

Two Le G classics: 1) AW should go and manage Woolworths [ nope, not ironic]
    2) Gallas has no patients…

    Well, that’s a surprise..

  214. Just read it Consols – agree. You tried to cheer the ‘holic up and just made it worse !! the death of football ?
Lately re-read Hornby’s book – seemed like there were more dull 0-0 draws then.. been a ‘supporter’ a while and remember those dark days.. Ok, Pz, join me in a cup of hemlock ?

  215. I’m really very different from the men described with such delicacy in Cosmo, so most of QoS’s shots missed their target.

  216. Well, she’s still a scary woman.. Give me Passenal (NOW!) or Tough Cookie any day.

  217. Toure and Gallas didn’t seem to kill each other today, that’s a plus

  218. Now, Ponyboy, I don’t want you making false promises to Tough Cookie. Treat her honourably, or keep away.

  219. I’m very disappointed with WH’s approach today. Of course, we should’ve been more clinical in front of goal, but I didn’ expect such negative approach to the game from, of all people, ZOLA!!

Anyway, as an eternal optimist, for me there was no shortage of positives from today’s game. Especially Denilson & Diaby’s performances!
I was really impressed with Denilson- little flair, but he was so composed and got on with his job quietly yet brilliantly. He was just constantly popping up here and there. I am sure that if he were playing for other teams, he’d surely be one of the players I hate most because he’s so annoying!!
Diaby was clumsy at times, but showed huge improvement in the defensive side of his game.
Hope his injury is not serious..

I was as surpised as anybody to see Robin on the bench. However, we don’t know the whole story; maybe AW was too cautious about overplaying the best player in the team, maybe Robin was too knackered after putting 100% every game in January. It’s just so easy to talk the talk about what should’ve been done in the hindsight.

I hope Eboue’s injury is not serious. I am not Eboue’s No.1 fan I have to admit, but he is a valuable squad player, the sort of player any team needs. However frustrating he can be, I was so glad to have him playing for us at RB against Manusa when Sagna was out injured.

I’m disappointed about dropping points today, but will remain positive.
    Villa dropping points?
That’s a little bit of icing on my burnt cake!
    Spurs dropping yet more points?
That’s like having a PINT of baileys – so sweeeeeeeeet!

  220. We’re competing wth Villa for fourth place. We used to compete with United for the title. Aah..transition.

  221. Jamie,

Its only for this season. Have some patience.

  222. There, you see, Ponyboy. A young woman who can write a post like that deserves a good man.

  223. Pz,
thanks for looking out for me! ;)

  224. Hanging head in shame..

  225. The FA is at it again; working to make sure that MANU will win the title once more.

Plain stealing, that’s what it is.

  226. Agree Howard.. SAF has some hold over them..

Btw: When you played professionally, which was your (main) position ?

    Serious Q..

  227. Tough Cookie – cocoa (?) and bed soon.. MOTD – no thanks!

You summed it up so well.. really, what is it about female Gooners ?? You just get it right every time!

If i may..a little kiss, for showing me the stream in which to bathe.

  228. Please I didn’t play professionally; I was a player when at Uni, many years ago.

I couldn’t sacrifice my professional academic work to play football to earn a living.

  229. two gems :

“I think I’ll stay clear of Queen of Suburbia. I don’t want her to beat me with her rolled up copy of Cosmopolitan”.

    and

“Toure and Gallas didn’t seem to kill each other today, that’s a plus”.

both cheered me up a bit !

And I just went to see “Slumdog Millionaire”.

Cheered me up as well, well worth seeing.

  230. Howard:
“I couldn’t sacrifice my professional academic work to play football to earn a living.”

Not even for 80 grand a week?

  231. Yeh Matty, Slumdog Millionaire is an excellent movie/film!

  232. So what’s your professional academic work Howard, chase the foreigners away?

  233. good morining fellow gooners

  234. Goodnight from here

  235. Queen of Suburbia

    Morning all….question.

Do you think teams are more inclined to come to the Emirates and play with two banks of four because they know most of our creative players are out injured?

Teams have always come to defend at the Emirates but lately it seems to be more “extreme” and they seem to sit even deeper.

I’m not sure such a deep lying strategy would be attempted if Cesc, Rosicky and Theo were all fit.

  236. I don’t know Queenie. Teams have done this for a long time now. It would sem to me that they have less reason to do it when we are lacking our more creative players.

Sirely they have more chance of beating us at the moment than when we are at full strength?

Typical report on the game in the Telegraph today. Writing us off as a footballing club while saying that WHU created little “.. but why should the?” Because it’s meant to be an entertainment, dummy.

Fascinating that everyone is creaming over Manure as well. They were fortunate to beat Everton yet no one has commented on their lack of penetration. There but for the will of God…

  237. Queen of Suburbia

I thinks almost the ultra cautious approach of we were only coming for a point and now without Fab et al…we’ve got a better chance of getting it if we stick to the game plan.

  238. Queen of Suburbia

Re: Man U – it’s the classic, to the victors go the spoils I think. They’re top

  239. Hi QoS and Bob,

It’s just beyond ridiculous to observe how all the media outlets are in awe of Manusa. They won by penalty, and I am not even sure whether that was indeed a penalty!

    Arteta,
I don’t know what to make of this guy.
I wished him to be in our team, but then he was just anonymous against us and manu. Is it the case of him recovering from injury or being just ineffective against big teams?

  240. Chelsea, Liverpool, and united have all been hot favourites at some point this season. I agree with Queen o’ the Sticks: to the victors go the spoils.

As for Arteta, he’s mainly a set-piece expert.

  241. Afternoon

  242. The reason ManU don’t get criticised for a lack of penetration as they score shitloads of goals. Apparently since we beat United we have only scored 4 goals at home – in 7 games!

I know that many creative players are injured but having Ade up front is a huge problem. He’s a disgrace, a joke.

  243. I think you will find AIC that Manure have won several of their last few games 1-0.

Here we go again. What are we supposed to do with the creative heart of our team on the injury list? My point was that manure are not creating much with almost a full squad. Especially now the media have decided that Ronaldo is back to his best. I tell you the only Manure players I would take at Arsenal are Vidic and Tevez.

I’m not sure that being nice to QoS as well as all the other women on the site will do you much good Pz. In my experience women like to feel special. Being nice to more than one at the same time just makes them all sneer at you. I am talking about chatting them up obviously. I am past all that so am nice to anybody who is nice to me.

That still leaves plenty of people to be rude to mind you.

  244. AIC

I like your views on Ade. If a player is crap we should say it. Ade don’t love the club; its about his pocket. Betraying the club to get paid 80K a season is no love. Ade don’t deserve that much money.

His first touch is still poor after 3 seasons. He’s the only striker whose first instinct after receiving the ball is to release it back to a midfielder behind him. He’s big but can’t shoot.

Arsene should have sold him last season. He’s just a one season wonder.

  245. ade is suffering and all the strikers are of lack of service.

  246. Sorry, Consolsbob. I have never liked to take a calculating and manipulative attitude towards people. I have never studied how to make a positive impression on women, or on men. I’m also incredibly arrogant, so the snears of vain women have little power over me.

  247. I’ve never met any vain women. Or arrogant men.

  248. Nobody’s snearing at you Pz -

  249. If a woman isn’t vain, she’s usually very plain.

  250. Good One Ponyboy! Laugh?

You really mustn’t do that, Pz is sensitive but he is man enough to face the truth.

  251. True – he’s a man’s man.. and a hero to us all.

  252. Stop it! It’s cruel!

  253. DOOMERS’ DIARY

    Sunday, February 1st

8am. Sooooo Happy. Arsenal drew and everybody is down. Go downstairs and say good morning to mum and dad with a biggggg smile on my face.

8.30 am. Bowl of cornflakes. Catch some more highlights of the game on football 1st. Start thinking about what to write on the blog.

9.00 am. 1st post of the day. Adebayor is shit, song is shit, AW needs to sign 3 players.

    10.00 am. Playstation.

10.30 am. Getting some opposition on the blog. Who are these tw*ats ?? Were they at the game yesterday, cos I wasn’t ? Will write carefully worded reply.

11.00 am. On a high. Lot’s of fellow sympathisers out today. Those geezers on the Sunday Supplement. Spot on mates. Wow, I might do this, go into journalism.

11.30 am. Looking at future fixture list on Arsenal.com. We will struggle there. Definitely. We need a defensive midfielder.

12.00 pm. Write another post about need for new players.

    1.00 pm. Playstation and lunch.

1.15 pm. Reading an article where DD says we have to strengthen.

1.30 pm Who are these guys who keep saying be positive on the blog ?? What planet are they on ? We clearly need another football club.

2.45 pm Watched the highlights again on AVTO. Song is shit. Yeah, I know he didn’t come on until the 90th minute.

3.00 pm Still on a high. Lot’s of comment still to make. Somebody will get the message soon. Maybe the club reads the blog

3.30 pm Let’s post something positive. Ok – next season we can start again.

4.15 pm Not sure that was well received. Tw*ts

5.00 pm Go and ask mum and dad for some dinner. Chicken nuggets and dinosaur potatoes.

    5.30 pm homework.

    7.00 pm bed.

  254. Le Grove poster “If this carries on, we may never make the top 4 again”.

Don’t know why i go there really; just to find some unbelievable crap.

  255. That’s alot of homework, Muppet – suppose Doomer wants to go to Uni and play football. Fair enough; or maybe an academic career ?

  256. Hilarious Muppet. Although I think there are a few Gloomers who live at home with their Mum and are allowed to stay up late. As long as they promise never to go out with girls.

Talking of unbelievable crap Pb, Dein told the BBC that he left Arsenal because he could see this ( the decline) coming.

Funny, I thought he was escorted from the premises after being sacked.

  257. You are very nasty today Pb.

  258. Howard wasn’t quite clever enough to play football, so he chose an academic career.

  259. F.Frederick Skitty

    Good one Poliziano!

  260. Consolsbob and Ponyboy,
I take it you both have vain wives.

  261. True, Consols..such cruelty doesn’t suit; need to stop going to LG; it seeps in..

  262. Wouldn’t you want to know what Howard does in the world of academe?

Professor of Logic maybe. Or Ethics. No, wait, journalism. The North East London Sky Sports Chair of Television Punditry!

And you, Ponyboy, will go blind.

  263. Blimey Pz. You have got a way with women haven’t you. I’ve just shown Mrs Consolsbob, or Consolslel as she is known, your last post.

Suffice it to say that I just hope that you have not been the cause of distress to our chickens who are used to calm, soothing language of love and kindness.

  264. I don’t think Ponyboy is married, so you have probably got away with it there.

  265. Doomer’s favourite quotes –

    1) “Give me 5 million quid a year and I promise to take Arsenal down the championship manager route to glory.”

    2) “How can Arsenal players get affected by their own fan’s booing and abusing them? After all, they are paid 80,000 quid a week to cope with it.”

    3) “Alex Song is responsible for the credit crunch.”

  266. is time for aw to go?

  267. Is it time for your bed?

  268. F. Frederick Skitty

It’s hard to believe we are below Chelsea and Liverpool in the league. I honestly believe we are better than both of them and I still think we’ll overhaul, at the very least, one of them.

  269. My ex was very pretty – but she used to wake me up by kicking me in the face…
Hard to see what i’m writing..

  270. I was also at the game yesterday and I was very disappointed with WHU. They have been on an unbeaten run themselves and you would think that would have given them the confidence to at least try to play football. But it goes to show how much they fear us, despite knowing that we are missing so many creative players. We had them on the back-foot for most of the game, but just could not find a way through the 10 men camped in their half of the pitch. It was very frustrating. This trend of playing negative, defensive football is really killing the spirit of the game.

  271. Torres has scored.. Chel$ki are losing it now…
    – Lumpard off; 3 minutes to go.

    Passenal – totally agree. :-)

  272. Passenal

As you go to the game and watch the whole picture for yourself, do you think we are in freefall as the media are barking?

  273. Poor Ashley Cole

  274. Take away the point for a draw.

You win you take 3 points, you draw or lose you get nothing. That’s never going to happen though because the point was made for those smaller teams to survive.

Most teams like WHU play us like that, in fact stronger teams than WHU play like that against us. We have to break them, we played well but didn’t get that extra bit of class to break them. It’s frustrating and disappointing but it’s been in football for ages.
    ===

Glad Cole doesn’t play for us, Chel$ki’s fcuked…I hope they are the ones finishing 5th.

  275. Chelsea have gone to the dogs man, Scolari is one (season) and done, i think.

  276. i couldnt agree with u more FFS. Why r Arsenal always criticised 4 being big girls blouses when some of the theatrics on show 2day were even worse than Agbonlahore n Ronaldos dying swan act!

And they say we r a club in crisis. Questionable referreing but not even a fightback from Chelski. Can u imagine the stick Arsenal wud get. Cant defend the far post. Players not fit 2 wear the shirt, No heart, Spineless, Gutless.Manager to go. It shows u whata load off utter morons the press are.

Two assured finishes from Torres though. Somebodys got 2 make the mancs sweat.

  277. RVP should have sat out the FA Cup and played against West Ham. He is our most creative player at present and the best in the PL.

Not sure if you can take away the point for a draw, so draws and losses would be the same?

If it is not frowned upon it will not stop, nothing can/will be done if is deemed as a great defensive performance and not negative football.

  278. G4L, that header was sweet.

  279. 606 – hearing BIG Phil must go comments! :-)

“Out of his depth” apparently, unlike Mourinho, ofcourse. Fans are all much alike.. oh, that spells trouble ahead.

  280. Agree with Passenal and G4E. West Ham parked the bus. How teams don’t criticised for showing no ambition is beyond me, and we have to put up with at least 16 teams doing this every year at home.

  281. Yeh Muppet, sadly it’s not gonna change so we are just going to be more creative and up the tempo.

  282. “going to have to be more creative….”

  283. Gooner4Life – It’s more than the press being morons – There is an anti Arsenal agenda amongst a huge section of the media and before anyone jumps down my throat it’s not the sensationalist headlines that make me think this, it’s the almost orgasmic joy that many show when there is a bad story about us.

When you have Liverpool and Chelsea on the brink of financial meltdown what do you hear? Nothing!

The Spud’s – Spending money like it’s about to be abolished and facing a real relegation threat. Nothing!

The report on Premier League clubs season ticket holders considering not renewing – headline “Arsenal in crises” when we were near the bottom of the list.

Forbes releases their top 10 most valuable sport teams in the world. 3 football teams feature (Proper football not American, Aussie or anything else) ManU, Real Madrid and Arsenal. The media silence is deafening.

It would be a relief to be told that I’m paranoid but there are just to many after us.

  284. “Passenal

As you go to the game and watch the whole picture for yourself, do you think we are in freefall as the media are barking?”

We are not in freefall. Due to the injuries we have a young, inexperienced midfield at the moment and without some of our key attacking talents we struggled to find a way past an ultra defensive set up.

  285. Passenal – Do we honestly have fans who do not realise this?

  286. A lot of people in the media are united fans. They hate Arsenal, because although they have picked up a couple of trophies recently, everyone knows Arsenal play better football.

  287. Queen of Suburbia

Marc – not condoning it for one second, but i think the view some have is that we should have won the league last year but didn’t have enough depth in the midfield when Rosicky got injured and the club didn’t choose to correct that in the summer. Instead we lost Hleb and Flamini.

That’s the root of their gripe.

  288. Sounds like a case of sour gripes to me.

  289. Marc, I agree with you re the media and sadly too many fans swallow their bile and fail to appreciate what is really going on. If we had all our players fit and were struggling they might have more of a point. So what exactly is Chelski’s excuse with all their investment and their so called world class players?

  290. OofS – We should have won the league last year but I think that the turning point was Eduardo’s injury, the psychological impact seemed to affect us far more than the loss of the player. With Rosicky and RVP spending much of the season injured we did not have the flair players when they were needed (Cesc cannot be expected to do everything). Hleb was a good player but I personally feel that there was not enough end product for a player of his quality – How many times did fans groan when he played a pass rather than taking on the shot? Nasri is looking like a more direct and point winning player.

We did not replace Flamini. I don’t know the reason why and I would not presume to second guess Wenger but I do think that Denilson is growing into the role and should be supported. Please remember that Flamini had one outstanding season, his other time at Arsenal was as a useful but not exceptional squad player.

  291. Some fans are over the top but when you look at the injuries it looks like we should have added – all in hindsight I guess.

  292. We are where we are now, so I don’t see the point of continually repeating the same gripe. If we had Rosicky (he was expected back last September), Cesc, Walcott and Eduardo playing regularly I’m sure things would be different. But the fact is that we don’t so we have to get on with what we have and back the players who are out there trying their best while learning and improving every day.

  293. Poliziano – I’m not sure who you comment is directed at? If at me I would prefer grapes as apposed to gripes and preferably in a nice bottle of wine!

  294. We didnt replace Flamini because we had Diaby who was due to start as far as What Wenger has said, Denilson as you have mentioned and Song has been added to the mix.

  295. Passenal – Couldn’t agree more. When you’ve been knocked down you don’t complain the floor is dirty. You pick yourself up and get on with it.

  296. I agree Passenal, I dont think we need any players but we just seem to have so many injuries yearly that hinder the team from being at their best – its a shame as this collection of talent is to me the best in the PL.

  297. we still need a defensive midfielder because song isnt upto the job. other then that though we are fine.

  298. DukeGoonem – Do you not think that Denilson is showing that he is growing into the role?

  299. I agree with Passenal

  300. Took you a long time to get back from the match.

  301. Left the stadium about an hour ago…

  302. Did you get lost?

  303. Not exactly,no..

  304. Were there a lot of early leavers who had to be punished?

  305. That was not the nature of my mission, but since you ask there is one now buried underneath the centre spot…..

  306. I hope that it will not not come back to haunt us. A bumpy pitch can be murder.

  307. A whole early-leaver, or just his unmentionaballs?

  308. …I am a professional..

  309. …an intact one

  310. …except for a very small hole just below the sternum…

  311. I’m actually re-watching the game and apart from not getting a goal there were plenty of signs of improvement in our general play. I didn’t really notice some of that in the heat of the moment yesterday. Still, that’s 10 games unbeaten and a clean sheet, so it’s onwards and upwards!

  312. Something else to cheer me up after yesterdays result.

    Chelski lost.

    A B C

    Anyone But Chelski.

  313. Marc,

yes denilson is doing great but can he play with cesc? maybe he can but id be happier with someone else aswell in case but feel song is better suited to the seria a. or the acn. diaby and cesc are all attacking mids and im sure denilson is aswell so that leaves song as our natural dm.

  314. …what a star you are ,Passenal…I completely agree..

  315. ..we don’t need a defensive midfield player….

  316. There’s variety to Denilson’s game. He’s not just a defensive or attacking player.

  317. DukeGoonem – I think that Denilson is having to mature very quickly in a midfield that is missing 2 other first choice players plus Nasri who is still settling in.

We cannot make a definitive decision until he has played a reasonable number of games in a full or near full strength midfield.

Once that has happened we can decide whether he is a understudy for Cesc or a partner.

  318. FA cup. Think we can get that little baby once again..
CL – well – depends who is fit and in form, but, just possible.

May i have some cheese, please ?

  319. Passenal

As you have just re-watched the game can you tell me how Diaby got injured? I was at the game but I missed the incident. Thanks

  320. Ponyboy, please,
    Help yourself to cheese.

  321. Thanks Pz… a very ripe Brie feels right tonight; maybe lightly toasted.

London – as said; bad landing..

  322. London – he went in for a 50/50 ball and because his foot was on the turf the other guy’s momentum seemed to cause the injury. He looked in a lot of pain when he went off, so I’m a bit worried. Just when he was starting to look good in the middle and it looked like his injury worries were behind him.

  323. Some of Diaby’s skill and power yesterday was breathtaking.

  324. crafty bison – I can’t wait to see the Cesc/Denilson/Diaby midfield again. They gave Chelski the run around in the CC final a couple of years ago now they are more experienced – imagine just how good they could be?

  325. Apparently Arshavin has been spotted going the wrong way around the M25.

  326. Muppet, I don’t know why some people are getting so worked up about him. It will be good for the team to have another player with some experience to help out, but he is not going to ‘save our season’ on his own, now matter how good he might turn out to be, even if he signs tomorrow. He can’t possibly live up to the hype some fans are generating.

  327. Queen of Suburbia

I think folks are hoping he adds a bit of balance to the side rather save our season per se..

I’d be equally happy with one of our “creative players” back…

  328. Not judging by some of the hysterical comments I’ve read – some people are expecting him to step off the plane and straight into the team without even training and getting to know his team mates! Plus set up and score all the goals while he is at it!

  329. Passenal,

I think we should get excited about good players coming to Arsenal. On the other hand, I think we should be more excited about the potential of the entire squad. I’ve seen grudging posts that are finally coming around to the idea that Diaby and Denilson will be very very good players. We just need to be more patient.

  330. Muppet, I’m not saying don’t get excited, but if people are expecting too much, they will not give the player time to settle into the team or accept that he might not hit the ground running. I’ve seen how some elements of the fan base can be quite destructive towards our players due to their unrealistic expectations. Real life cannot be controlled like some kind of computer game.

  331. The cries of excitement are drowning out the sound of knives being sharpened.

  332. Absolutely Passenal, unrealistic expectations is a wider problem, and nobody has ever answered, at least to my satisfaction, why we should be top of the premiership, when the two red teams and the blue team have probably spent over a billion on their squads. Frankly, I hope Gillette and Hicks, Abramovich and the Glazer brothers all fall victim of the credit crunch.

  333. Was that report about Arshavin from a reliable source, Muppet?

  334. Yeah, it was from the ministry of truth in Russia.

  335. Ha ha!

    Good night!

  336. Malaysiangunner

Passenal, Paul N and et al

The need for defensive mid fielder and tall experience good in the air was never a hind sight issue as purported by you all. With the lost of Flaminu and Alex , plus the obvious deficiency of Kolo and Gallas playing together, it was OBVIOUS we needed to replace and strengthened. We brought in Nasri for Hleb but brought in Ramsey a 17 year old.
You may have said that AW judged that Denilson, Diaby and Song would be ably replace Flamini’s contribution( forget the player just focus on the role) Well, Flamini’s contribution/role in the tem was not ably replace just look at the points won, goals for and against our domination in mid field stats etc etc.
You say we had injuries, but injuries are to be expected and anticipated in football. If we do not have injuries is the constant refrain for the pass 2 to 3 seasons. We build a squad in anticipation of it. We do not let Gilberto go ,we keep Pires if we do not sign any one but we had let them go so our injuries have come to haunt us.
AW is balancing the budget we know but he will have gotten the balance wrong if we do not finish top 4, our income will fall significantly no matter what wages we would have saved it will not match our loss of income from not playing in the CL. We would be a much less valuable product and desirable marketing tool without playing CL football and we will have less world wide exposure and fans. Less desirable for top players to join and we will have difficulty retaining the best players that we have.

Sorry to sound so gloomy but the above are clear and present danger that our beloved Arsenal face.
And we go on talking about wage structure and economic sense I give you the flip side of the argument of economic sense. No one is advocating Spuds or Chelsea or Mancity like spendings but 20 to 30 million to spruce an already decent team to a great team is what I am advocating. It will not send us to the poor house not qualifying for the CL may start the process.
The Arsenal exist not to break even only but to entertain and win things. We are doing neither at this juncture. The end of this season we will see if AW and the board is right in their actions in the pre season transfer window and the January window but it apppears to me the fat lady is clearing her throat, plse let me be wrong, please…

    Up The Arse!!!

  337. The Cardinals lost :( oh well.

MalaysiaG…I think we can understand your evaluation there, but we exchanged the wages of Pires and Gilberto for 4 or 5 young players who will be the future of this club not the aged old legends. the facts are:

*We didn’t have Cesc at the beginning of the season, then we lost him in the middle of the season.

    * Adebayor form and contribution dropped due to missing real creative player (Cesc), plus his form dropped in general after a previous strong season he had.

    * No Rosicky
    * Walcott injury
    * The list of reasons can go on.

Not qualifying for the CL for one year is not going to make Arsenal a 2nd class team, AC Milan didn’t last year…it didn’t stop Kaka from staying, and Your Flamini going to them.

I do think you will be wrong because when our injured, Eduardo, Cesc, Walcott, and eventually Rosicky come back, we will qualify for the CL and you will be happy you were wrong.

  338. Malaysiangunner

    G4E

With regards to wages for young and more experience players- I counter you the following -. How may times will AW put Pires on the left if he is fit versus Jack Wilshire/Vela on the left when Theo and Nasri are injured. Every time instead of playing 4 CMs as he had done so many times recently. How much are those wages versus playing time worth?

How much more efficient is Gilberto in shielding the back four versus Denilson and Song? just looked at the goals against us.

The fact that we did not have Cesc ,Ros and Walcott argues for retention of a bigger experience squad not a younger inexperience squad.

I believe winning comes first and youth development second, losing the way we have done does not build exeprience of the youngsters , in fact it may destroy the morale of young players like Theo/Denilson and even Cesc( who is just 21 years old mind you)

NOt qualifying a year in the CL may or may not put the club in a permanent decline but why do we need to run such a risk over 20 to 30 mio more pounds spending? I believe the books will still balance. The risk reward calculations does not make sense to me.

G4E , plse trust me I rather the Arsenal do well than me being right.
I am just thankful that Villa did not score any goals despite 3 goal line clearance and my heart was on my hands that whole match.

    Up The Arse!!!!

  339. I too hope you are wrong MalaysiaG, just as much as I hope I’m wrong on any doubts I may have.

I hope that at the end, Wenger will prove all the doubters wrong and we will see one day that his vision was the best for our club’s future.

I totally disagree on the young players experience, in fact playing in a tough environment when things are not all that well and easy will make them tougher and stronger for the future.

Chel$ki have all the over 30 retiree players with all the experience in the world…where is that taking them? Abramovich are paying wages up his a$$ and they’re not so much better off than us.

It all comes down to who will laugh last, some of us my be crying now….but I know we will have the last laugh, and we will be laughing for a long time. Our history as a club proves we have class and we always come back….and we will.

    High Up The Arse!

  340. Malaysiangunner

    G4E

In Chel$ki we have the other extreme of all retirees but what I want is to balance youth with experience.

Yes of course we have class and AW quixotic quest for youthful ideals and in my opinion misguided fiscal prudence is a show of class of sorts but lets hope we the Arsenal do not end up like Don Quixote with him.

    As Usual

UP THE ARSE !!! UP THE ARSE!!! UP THE ARSE!!!

  341. Is Arsene Wenger doing Brian Clough?

Yes I say so and my reasons are:

    1. Continuously selling our top quality players, season after season eg. Pires

    2. Buying players not of the same quality as those sold; infact buying poor quality players eg. Almunia

    3. Refusing to sell poor quality players who’ve not been performing eg. Eboue

    4. Making it a policy not to retain English players even when it’s evident that they could do better than their foreign counterparts eg. Muamba vrs Song, Connolly vrs Senderos.

    5. Buying only foreign players even though not-good-enough and not considering public image of the club of such a policy.

    5. Dictatorship and arrogance; not listening to any advice. eg. saying that he wouldn’t buy any player even if given 100 million.

    6. Lying to Arsenal fans that he will buy ‘super players’ but not buying eg. last summer

His actions are those that can lead us to doing Nottingham Forest

If we lose to Spurs, then the noise against Arsene Wenger to leave to his home country will be louder.

  342. Hilarious, absolutely hilarious!!!

    You’re a funny guy, Howard.

  343. He should have just kept the invincibles team, eh? Ha Ha Ha…

  344. P.s – Howard:

    1) Pires wasn’t anywhere near the player he used to be in his last season with us, hence his exclusion from the national side.

    2) Almunia worse than Lehmann? That’s certainly debatable! Who’s the more error prone?

    3) like our depleted squad can do with one less player at the moment…

    4) Since when was Muamba a ‘great player’? I think Song proved what a good player he is in the African Nations last yr – he was one of the tournaments best players.

    5) Why spend 100 million when he buys the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Patrick Vieira, Henry, Flamini etc for next to nothing…

    6) Is Diarra not a super player? Good enough for Real Madrid…

  345. Hilarious?

For almost 4 years, his only ambition is to place 4th.

He said winning the league is not the only barametre to measure success

    Arsene Wenger has no ambition

His only ambition is to qualify for CL and nothing else.

If we lose to Spurs then he has too leave.

  346. We will come in the top two…as AW has recently said…we are as good as the four teams above us and AV, Chelski and Liverpool will fall away…we will get straonger….AW has ambition and loyalty..many supporters have no loyalty at all…and loyalty is a key ingredient in the management of a football team….we will also get a good shot at the CL and FA Cup…..many of our supporters though will not be able to share in that glory…their consciences are not clear….their support has gone rotten…they have not supported the player or manager…we don’t need those supporters…we can do it withour you fellows…so f*** off…go on just f*** off

  347. Barometer ?

  348. Howard is definitely a professor of English – a great innovator in spelling and grammar.

  349. It continues to be so, as it’s been for 5-6 years, that every time I have to travel and have no means to watch an Arsenal game, we fail to get the result.

  350. There is a difference between a passion fuelled critical out-burst and persistent comments from someone who seems to revel in things that don’t go Arsenal’s way. Howard you are loathsome, you are no different from spuds who take enjoyment from watching us fail. The idea that Wenger is happy with 4th is ridiculous; he is a winner. That man is hurting inside because of where we are presently in the league.

  351. test

  352. When, Consolsbob? I haven’t done any revision.

  353. That worked. Anybody else having trouble posting?

As I told you all yesterday, it is clear that Howard is a Professor of Journalism.

His clear syntax, insightful and informed analysis and a deep compunction to tell the truth reveals him as a scion of his profession.

Actually you will note that this is the original Howard. The day shift Howard has gone to school.

  354. I have a recurring dream that I have a test in the morning and I haven’t done any work all year.

Then I realise, yes, I was only dreaming.

  355. “Bolton’s £15m bid for Miguel Veloso was rejected on Sunday night after a mystery Premier League club joined the race for Sporting Lisbon’s Portuguese midfielder.”

This from the Daily Star. Now I’m not sure how much credible this paper is in Uk but I would hope it was true and that the ‘mystery club’ was us. Which other club would want to be a mystery club in a transfer dealing than Arsenal. Or am I just one of those desperate gooners hoping for something to be true that would make my day?

  356. People should not get sucked in by the Howard. I personally don’t read whatever he writes.

  357. There are entire blogsites of Howards….

  358. Then why does he post here Frank? Do you think it is our wit and charm?

Or, and I have no wish to cast careless approbium on the young man, is he a devilish manifestation of that ‘other place’, as part of a attempt to wind us up.

Verily, I believe this sadly to be the truth.

  359. Although I don’t agree with everything he writes by any means, at least Howard has the honesty to admit that this team is rubbish. 4 goals in 7 home games and a series of draws against mediocre opposition confirm this as the weakest Arsenal team of the Wenger era.

This team is a slightly better version of the 1993 team where we were totally boring and if Wrighty didn’t score then noone else did.

To be fair, injuries have smashed us but we cannot use this an an excuse forever. The injuries have exposed a lack of real quality and size in the squad. Undoubtedly the injuries have forced Wenger to play young players more times that he would have liked and it has shown that too many in the team results in them struggling.

Hopefully the injured players can make a difference when fit but it may be too late for this season. Hopefully they will stay at Arsenal but you don’t know. RvP is rumoured to want assurances about the club’s ambition before signing a new deal and who could blame him. I wonder if the club will be honest and say to him “our target is to finish 4th, make a profit on transfers and maybe have a good cup run”.

Wenger’s persistence with shite like Eboue is unforgivable however, and he probably earns 40k a week which is an insult to the fans. Ade on current form is the worst Arsenal striker since Lee Chapman.

  360. Oh dear Arshaven heading back to Russia, apparently we cant afford him.
That bit of creativity we crave looks to be not arriving.
I dont think of a more difficult time than what Arsene has at the moment since his arrival.

  361. Forgive me, AIC…but you have a f***ing strange idea of ‘honesty’…..he in fact has a very pessimistic view of the club…pessimism is the lazy way…it takes less effort to be pessimistic….and less courage….so in fact he has the laziness and the cowardliness to be pessimistic….

  362. …as do you, AIC

  363. ..perhaps he has gone back to get his kids…or maybe he saw the Arsenal players train and realised he was not good enough….or perhaps he can’t stand snow..

  364. I agree with Frank. I find AIC’s dribble irritating and dour just like a miserable git.

  365. We may not be having the best time and our time might not be the invincibles of 2004 but we are certainly not having the worst time and this is certainly not the worst team Asernal have had.

I think Alex and Howard are just miserable and base their views on a starting point of -1000.

  366. …fantastic name, Arse Baggins…..

  367. Frank,

Honesty and pessimsim and not mutually exclusive. This team is a joke. It has nothing to do with effort or bravery unless of course you need to be brave to see the truth.

The results and more tellingly, the performances, speak for themselves. We were utter shite v Everton and were only saved by a moment of genius.

In midfield we are a collection of Ray Wilkinses who was known as “the crab” as he always passed the ball sideways. At least Diaby tried to run with the ball. Defensively we usually gift a goal a game, the midifeld neither protects the defence nor creates enough and worst of all we have that lump Ade upfront who cannot even be bothered to run 2 yards to receive the ball.

Wenger has tolerated underpeformances and bad attuitude and says he sold Diarra becuase of his attitude. Using that as a benchmark he should have packed Ade’s bags for him and told him where to go.

  368. Lachter Football Agent

Sigh…Sadly I will not be getting my (fair) % on this potential transfer. You guys are too cheap I should have known that when you booked Andrei at the Travelodge yesterday night…

  369. Didn’t he get the full English that we insisted on?

  370. No he just got toast. We couldn’t afford the full English

  371. No great feats are ever achieved by pessimists, AIC…. and all pessimists believe that they are realists….they don’t have the backbone to keep going…their whiney, dripping psyche drags them down….they don’t have the courage to enter the pit on their own so they try to drag others in with them…pessimists are generally cowards…and becuase of that they are often evangelistic….

  372. Lachter Football Agent

    Denied. Breakfast was not included…

  373. Frank,

That’s fine. We are still rubbish though!

  374. Lob in some pessimism…then try to get friendly with everyone….bit more pessimsim…bit more friendliness…..thats called wheedling, AIC….makes you a morally low person …not proud to have you as an Arsenal supporter…not at all….

  375. “all pessimists believe that they are realists”

    Nice one.

  376. Was watching Eduardo’s goals for Arsenal last night. I noticed the team playing in the Carling cup and the FA cup. Most of those players, have been involved in the First team for the PL this season, due to various reasons. Diaby, Denilson, Song and Bendtner. It’s amazing that these players, have stepped up on the big stage so quickly and have maintained an unbeaten 10 games run. Astounding. Injuries or no injuries next season, we’re going to have an even bigger squad next season because these players would be far more experienced.

  377. Frank,

In case you are wondering I don’t give a f*** about what you think or about the judgments you think fit to pass on others. You are a very arrogant man as you think you can determine who is a fan and bar people from calling themselves supporters.

This team is rubbish and your blind faith in them has been wasted.

Your comments make me laugh though, especially the one about me being a low moral person. You don’t even know me.

    Keep them coming deluded one!

  378. I agree Frank – like everything in life it’s so much easier to be pessimistic and to not believe rather than believe. It takes courage to have faith even in the face of adversity. Pessimists are so afraid of failure that they will not even try. You will always find that the people who make it big in any walk of life are optimists as they are the ones who are willing to risk losing in order to win.

  379. AIC,
I am sure if I go 2 months back, you’d still be babbling the same thing. U have a habbit of taking things out of context. Tell me one team in the PL, that can deal with 6 first team starters out for large chunks of the season.

Rosicky, was to return in september.
    Eduardo, as well.
    Cesc got injured.
    Theo got injured.
Diaby was injured in the start.

And if fit these players, would be starting for us.

Take Gerrard, Torres, Xabi and Caragher out, and then see how they will perform.

Take Giggs, Scholes, Ronaldo, and Ronney out and then we’ll see how far they can go.

Chelsea, Lampard, Ballack, Terry, and Anelka.

The only reason, that Chelsea managed without Essien, Joe Cole, and Drogba was because of their huge spending power. Which frankly is idealistic and unachievable for a club like us.

DO YOU EVER SEE ANY POSITIVES FROM OUR TEAM? EVER? EVER?

  380. Ateeb,

RvP has been great lately and I think that the youngsters have done well on the whole. They are simply not ready to sustain a challenge.

Other than that there isn’t much to be happy about.

  381. Fuck being pessimistic!
    Fuck being blindly optimistic !
    Fuck this!

We really need ARSHAVIN, to boost our diminished morale,
    5th position, and
what ARSENAL means to the world of football!

Economics ain’t everything O Board of Directors!

Adrenaline can work wonders for fans, owners & players alike.

Don’t let the Russian genius return to St Pete

    Get his jersey ready

    Sign ARSHAVIN u fucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  382. Match off tom re. Cardiff

  383. Man Goo’s injury crisis is almost over. Their famous injury crisis is over. We’re still missing key players.

  384. It seems sad that AA will not be joining us as apparently he came over on his own accord so he could have a medical should the deal be agreed, he really wanted to play for our club.
Last resort i would have thought would have been a loan deal until the end of the season, which would have given us a chance to have a look at him in the Prem to see if he was worth that sort of money.
No doubt Ken or Ivan whoever it is negotiating tried that, but Zenit seem not the easiest club to deal with.
I thought it would have been in their interest to have allowed him to come as the player obviously doesnt want to play for them, and the manager seemed resigned for his departure.
    Such is life…………..

  385. I’m refusing to read Arsenal blogs groaning louder and louder as the 5 pm deadline approaches.

  386. Here’s a thought: if tomorrow’s game is cancelled will Diaby now be eligible for the spuds game?

  387. No London, apart from the fact he’s injured anyway, his suspension does not come into force until 7 days after his 5th yellow card, so he was always in line to miss the spurs game. It was such a shame as the tackle that led to the yellow card was purely accidental as he slipped and went into the WHU player.

  388. Frank, I know you don’t give a toss about my opinion but I must say you’re a bit harsh in your judgement of AIC. Pessimism from some supporters at this point in the season and after the last season is only, I think, a bit natural. Notice I said “some” supporters. It takes all kinds and just because everyone doesn’t have your kind of “optimism” does not mean they can’t be a supporter. I must admit I too am tired of the current run the team is on. It is admirable to see these performances from such a depleted squad but draws alone won’t get us into a CL spot. Now Villa have some UEFA cup matches still to come and that may end up diminishing their performance over time but I do admire their desire. Signing Heskey was a clear admission that they are going for it. I wish the same could be said of Wenger. All he keeps doing is repeating the mantra that he has faith in the squad and we don’t need to sign anyone and the injured players coming back are like new signings. We have heard this so many times before that it should be required memorizing by the support. Villa displayed desire and went out and made something of it by signing Heskey. I just wish Wenger and the club would match their talk of where they want to be with action rather than more talk. It’s clear to me that with all the injuries we are lacking some creativity in midfield. I had hoped Wenger would do something to address that but it seems all he wants to do is talk about it. The club have money to get something done. If they really wanted to do it they would. Being frugal is good and maybe I haven’t gotten the message that they won’t be spending to buy quality. You can’t really expect to sign someone of demonstrated quality without spending money on them. It is frustrating to see teams above you demonstrate their desire for more when all you get from your club is talk and no action.
Perhaps it is just Monday and I’m tired of transfer talk and no action every year. I know the stats and history on January signings too but I wish there was some action!

  389. Consolsbob
You were very close when you suggested “wit and charm” being the reasons I visit this site. But to clarify: I visit as I enjoy the owners posts; he stikes me as someone who has a great depth of Arsenal knowledge; in addition, I find the Frank and Poli show very entertaining and I also like Muppet’s imaginary conversations with editors of the sports pages. It seems to me that the ethos of the site is to try and find the possitives rather than the negatives. What’s to dislike?

  390. Exactly London! The internet is awash with negativity from the media and blogs so this place is a bit of a haven.

  391. Bloggers are engaged in a group narcissistic jerk-off. Take themselves too seriously if you ask me.

  392. I was referring to Howard, London.

However, I agree with you fully on this matter.

  393. My God OG! Where do they do that?

I mean, it all sounds a little unsavoury and also messy. Doesn’t it bother the ladies?

  394. Howard’s verdict: Wenger has to go.

Off you go Sir Wenger. Thanks for the memories.

Howard: professional journalist, ex England under 21 W(h)inger and all round great philosopher determines the agenda of our club. Join me in saluting our great leader.

  395. Ateeb – good one about the injuries. AW may have mentioned it, but he doesn’t moan about it; infact he barely mentions the injuries.
Fact is, 4 of our best players are out. No other team could cope with that. 5 if we include Diaby.

  396. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in New Highbury, we shall fight in the stadium and the seats. We shall fight with growing confidence and strength in the air (!). We shall defend our team, whatever the cost may be.
We shall fight in the games, we shall fight on the training grounds, we shall fight on the pitches and in the streets. We shall fight in the blogs. We shall never surrender !!

  397. According to Sky Sports Theo could be back in 4 weeks.

  398. Call me prudish if you will, but I find talk of jerking and creaming a touch embarrassing.

  399. To the posters who claim that Arsenal’s and Wenger’s ambition is limited to finishing 4th and making a profit on transfers. Why would they be happy to settle for this?

  400. It’s also on Arsenal.com Marc, so some light at the end of the tunnel at last!

  401. Passenal – Let’s hope it’s not a train.

  402. Gris,

Frank is a fascist who think that anyone who has the temerity to criticise is not a supporter.

He is unable to accept that this team is going nowhere but down.

  403. AIC,

I just think you’re unwilling to accept the team is not going down.

  404. AIC, the team is actually going up.

But I can understand being frustrated seeing how close we were last year.

I too think some mistakes have been made. I have said it already that I think RVP should have played Saturday and gotten a rest against Cardiff (the first match) also seeing the injuries I think we should have been a little more aggresive in this transfer period but what can we do about it? I hope Arsehavin comes and its not too late for that to become a reality.

It will be very hard for us to win the PL as we are not creative enough apart from RVP and Nasri and to wait 4 to 8 weeks for most of your dangerous players is along time. I do see us getting into the top four though.

I am not being negative but the reality is we dont have our creative players and we are struggling to score. Not sure whats up with Ade but he could make a big difference when he regains his form.

    Hope I am wrong though!

    Proud of the Team!

  405. i agree with AIC Frank is a passionate gooner

  406. Paul N

how many more times are you gonna say that RvP should have played on saturday?
As Passenal said before, you’re like a dog with a bone!

  407. Also, it’s easy to be wise with the benefit of hindsight. The players we had on the pitch should have had enough to get past an unambitious outfit like WHU but for some reason it just did not happen. None of us know the physical condition of RVP but Arsene is clearly trying not to overwork him given his history and our shortage in the creative department. How many people blame overuse of Cesc for a completely accidental injury? That’s why I take no notice of most fans opinions because the manager is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t!

  408. Pz -
    You are prudish.

  409. Is that the only thing I said?

Look how many things I wrote and you choose to comment on that one point. Just like a chance to be disrespectful – feels good doesnt it?

I was just talking to AIC, I wa just making a point that I understand the frustrations.

If you have a problem with my comments bypass them by all means.

  410. Passenal, sorry to have mentioned you in my previous post!

  411. Paul,

We are languishing outside the top 4 so how are we going up?

  412. Its just an opinion, if we are not to say our opinions ths blog with cease to be.

Passenal, I think Wenger made a mistake, its not big deal.

Why do people take this blog so serious as if someone is talking about your mum or something.

    Is “JUST” football, geez!!!

    Peace!

  413. I know that the Cardiff City game is off tomorrow…but I don’t think that AW reallty had any intetnion of playing RvP in that game….AW wanted his next game to be againbst the Spuds….as it happens RvP is now fit and will be able to demolish the Spuds…..and he will…oh yes….incidentally the very knowledgeable whingers were also anti-RvP for the first part of the season….and they ask us to believe their predictions for the season?…don’t think so…do you?…..

I love London in the snow and Arsenal is the finest football club in London…..Great snowy day to be a gooner….

  414. Oh.. just read what you mean. Not nice. Am a prude also, but do get whipped into a frenzy now and again.

  415. Well AIC, we were loosing regulalry and at least we havent lost in the last ten matches. That is improvement to me. I would call that going up, the season isnt over till all the matches are played, so I look for us to move up, you?

  416. Paul N – Personally, those people who get worked up about what people say about their mothers.. that’s really playground stuff.

It is strange, how much hatred hides behind supposed anonymity though. No-one feels better for it.
    Snow makes one peaceful.

  417. 15 games left….starting with Spuds….I am really looking forward to the run-in….this is where the fun starts…it is going to be very, very exciting…..some clubs will bottle it…Arsenal won’t…some of the supporters will….some have lost it already…..but the manager and the team and the real supporters…they haven’t bottled it…and they won’t…not a chance…..why?…becuase we are Arsenal…and that means we are hip…we are cool…we are Arsenal and we rule…lalalalaaaah….lalalaaaah….lalaaah.

    ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL

  418. Paul N,

I don’t have problem with your post.
The reason I kind of snapped at you about that RvP part of your comments was because I’ve respected your opinions generally, and I didn’t expect you to repeat that for the last three days, especially when many of us are a bit down and wondering what if?..

No offence intended, but I apologise.

  419. ….don’t wobble now, ToughCookie…this is where the fun starts…we need you now….supporters are very important to the manager and team now…..this is the time to stand up and be counted…..top two and some silverware…..no doubt about it….

  420. ponyboy, its just not that serious.
I am not attacking Wenger, he is the greatest manager in football to me.

I dont see the need for the disrespect for the life of me, its a shame!

  421. I accept that apology and thank you for that.

As you see that was not the point I was trying to make.

  422. Oh Frank, its not that serious.

  423. Fascists were very popular in Italy, but I never liked them. They went round criticising any opinion with which they disagreed.

  424. Big Respect TC!

  425. What isn’t that serious, Paul N?

  426. But they made the trains run on time, pz!!

  427. Don’t worry about it TC, I did say it and I meant it. I don’t have a problem with anyone making their point, but making it over and over seems a bit redundant to me.

  428. The little difference between TC and myself.

  429. I’ve heard Uncle Joe was the same in Russia. If someone wrote anything against the party line, Stalin wouldn’t just say, “I disagree with you, but of course one person’s opinion is as good as another’s.” Instead, he would start picking holes in his opponents argument, sometimes even using bad words.

  430. Passenal, whats the point of that statement.

Is it personal or something? what have I done or said to you to make you want to put me down?

I have always had great respect for your comments and just cant see the point.

    oh well, thats life.

    Be Breezy!

  431. Bad words ? Bad man!! Seems to be popular again, though, old Unc (as we used to call him) – they even had to rig the polls to stop him being named the “Best Russian of all time”.
    Some feat for a Georgian.

  432. Didn’t realise he was that old….

  433. Who was named the best Russian of all time?

  434. Peter the Great

  435. Actually Pz, I think he usually had them shot.

By the way, BBC reporting that the Arshavin deal will be completed.

  436. No… Alexander Nevsky!! Apologies.. Joe came 3rd.

  437. When Consols ? In the summer ? Only an hour to go!!
    Russian madness..

  438. Bob, that is good news, lets keep hope alive!

  439. Sky Sports are reporting that according to insiders we are very close to completing the deal for Arshavin.

  440. No Pb, they are saying this afternoon.

  441. If Arsene gets his man will this be a brilliant bit of hard ball by Arsenal?

  442. I am going to lie down in a dark room would someone wake me when the Arshavin deal is finished (Either way).

  443. Now reporting that the fee has been agreed, deal all but done.

  444. This would be excellent Bob, the right player for the right money at the right time!

  445. Personal terms have also been agreed But percentage of signing on fee still a sticking point.

  446. I’m getting confused here. Wenger’s having someone shot, this afternoon? That really is hard-ball.

    Who is his man?

  447. From Sky:

“15.48 At last Arsenal and Zenit St Petersburg have finally agreed a fee for the transfer of Andrei Arshavin to the Gunners. The deal is still to be finalised though with Arshavin and the Russians still to sort out a final payment. It is understood Arshavin will wear the number 13 shirt.”

    Fingers crossed!

  448. A. Venger

  449. It was Howard Pz. He was caught redhanded trying to negotiate surrender terms with the Tiny Totts. Despite pleas for clemency from AIC Arsene had him shot on the spot.

  450. What idiot pleaded for clemency?

  451. “It was Howard Pz. He was caught redhanded trying to negotiate surrender terms with the Tiny Totts. Despite pleas for clemency from AIC Arsene had him shot on the spot.”

Funniest comment I’ve seen for ages Consolsbob! While he’s at it, could he line up and shoot a few more?

  452. Can you believe spurs? Sell a player in the summer and buy him back in January? I would be deeply embarrassed if I was him, the club or a fan.

  453. This is fun!! Haven’t seen it anywhere but here.. The tension! The excitement! And the second half has already begun !

Gonna miss Howard. AW never thinks of the fans…

  454. Arshavin has passed his medical, says the BBC.

  455. Passenal – They’ve done it with Chimbonda already.

Has anyone added up what they have spent over the last cople of years?

  456. Can you imagine if after all of this he had failed a medical!

  457. Sky News latest – Fee and personal terms have been agreed. Zenit want a payment from the player before deal goes through. I wouldn’t get to excited just yet.

  458. Still a sticking point on the signing on fee. Apparently it is in Zenit’s hands.

  459. “Denilson on his way to Newcastle on loan for rest of season – was already a done deal, pending Arshavin deal.”

    this must be a joke?!!

  460. Yeah. Isn’t that typical of that selfish, has been Wenger Pz.

  461. Did you make that up TC? Utter boll*cks.

  462. NO! I didn’t make that up. I saw it on 606.

  463. Any one defending Howie the spud as an Arsenal fan should have their head examined.

Howie is not an Arsenal fan, and will never be. He obviously comes here with the same message to infuriate us and he probably sitting there behind his Spud computer screen laughing his Spudy ass off.

I think Frank was right to say the other day that the best answer to Howie and the likes is: F*ck Off (and that will do just fine).

From now on my respond to Howie will always be: F*ck off Howie

  464. ToughCookie, that was some random guy saying that, not the actual BBC guy

  465. I’m so dumb!

  466. Is anyone of us sane at this point in time ?

  467. Keep up G4E.

  468. Are you blond TC?

  469. It’s a bit like chasing Keira Knightley for a month…finally getting to the bedroom, and suddenly she begins her period…

Actually, that’s a crap metaphor, but it excited me… until she failed her medical.

  470. Consolsbob!

  471. Ponyboy!

  472. Things are getting out of hand here.

  473. Yes I’m sane…Howie is a Spud spy, an instigator who spreads the negatives so stupid people follow him and start spreading his negative and destructive agenda.

And many weak hearted will follow him….you know who you are, it’s a different kind of Le Grove, a moving Le Grove if you will. You can’t move Le Grove, but Howard and his likes can go from site to site spreading the hate for Wenger and his young players.

Howard and his weak followers are the enemies of Arsenal football club. We will defeat you scums….have your moments because you are running out of time….

  474. I don’t think there is really hate for Wenger on those sites.

Just a lot of people unable to utilise the correct vocabulary to express frustration.

  475. It’s out of my hands now, Polizi…

  476. So have we got Arsh-y yet or not?

  477. Sky Sports News have just claimed that Arshavin has agreed to a payment to Zenit and will be an Arsenal player tonight.

  478. G4E -
The Cardinals lost. But with a name like that, how could they win ?
Relax now, and – having checked whether Howard is under your bed – enjoy !!

  479. HRH

You don’t think Le Grove hates Wenger? You don’t see the hate for Wenger and his young foreign players from Howie the Spud?

Are you a Queen from another galaxy?

  480. Consolsbob,

I’m not dumb blond, but dumb chocolate!

  481. Yeah Pboy, it was their first Super Bowl…felt like Arsenal’s first CL final against Barca….but at least they got their and were so close like we were.

If Howard is under my bed, I would call the bug exterminator. Those bugs spread so fast.

  482. I don’t normally watch SSN’s but just had a look to see what all the fuss is about. They are so overblown and melodramatic, no wonder so many Arsenals fans are almost hysterical about this Andrei Arshavin transfer!

What an example of responsible, measured journalism, not!

  483. A dumble chocolate chip tough cookie.

  484. Hate? No.

I choose not to see hate. I think its frustration coupled in most cases with an inadequate ability to express themselves.

Most on Le Grove like Wenger but think he has his flaws.

Its sort of like the old maxim that a disatisfied customer will tell ten people about bad service whereas a satisfied customer will tell 3.

They seem to make a disproportianate amount of noise.

  485. What the f*ck are Zenit doing. During the summer they were demanding £24 million for Arshavin. We have agreed a fee worth £15 million (One way or another) they’ve already lost £9 million off the valuation, if they wait till next summer what’s he going to be worth then?

  486. Marc, if you’re getting your information from SSN, I wouldn’t get worked up about it. Just because they are standing outside Emirates, I don’t believe they really know they in and outs of what’s going on. We’ll find out soon enough.

Gunner4Ever, I totally agree with you

  487. Registration papers have been recieved by the FA.

  488. Poliziano!

  489. I’ll give you that HM, but constant dissatisfaction breads hate at the end.

In any case, I still think Howie is a Spuds instigator and should f*ck off.

  490. This time i think Sky have it right! I liked the shot of AA on his mobile trying to get his payment to Zenit through (from his Cyprus account no doubt)

  491. Yes, Consolsbob?

  492. Breaking News!!!!

Arsenal have signed a player. :)

  493. SSN – Have (apparently) an exclusive quote from Dick Advocatt re Arshavin along the lines of “He will be a sensation in England and he is a superb player etc” but also stated that “He is worth more than Arsenal have paid for him”.

  494. Any idea who it is, Arse Baggins?

  495. is he in or is he not…

i think this saga wud bring hamlet to shame…

  496. the russian snow storm hits london

  497. I can’t get to Arsenal.com?

  498. I don’t know Pz I was merely replying to your earlier “Consolsbob!”

  499. Everyone says the deal is off. Wait in horror.

  500. It’s off.

  501. its off

  502. For f*uck sake!

  503. A statement from the club would really be appreciated if the deal is off.

  504. F. Frederick Skitty

Maybe Arshavin’ll buy himself out of the rest of his contract and we’ll get him on a free in a few months time. If he isn’t surplus to requirements by then.

I just hope our fair-weather fans don’t spit their dummies and ratchet up their anti-support for the rest of the season.

It would be nice to see some real quality coming in at some point though. Although not as nice as it would be for AW to be vindicated with our current squad kicking into gear.

What about Spurs though? I wonder how much that transfer was for? Someone must have taken a hit. I guess they’ll be rapturous until we spank them at the weekend.

  505. Blind fans or ostriches?

Don’t you see that the Frenchman is now working to destroy the Arsenal we all love?

  506. Forget the weather today – it`ll be nothing compared to the sh*t storm coming the clubs`s way over the next few days.

  507. F*ck off Howard.

  508. Lachter Football Agent

Can somebody tell me what’s happening with my client and Arsenal ? I am a little in the dark now

  509. I’m disappointed the Arshavin deal seems to be off. With all the injuries now we need some creativity and I thought he supplied that. I would hate to find out that the deal was on and then off because Arsenal didn’t want to pony up 1/2 the cash right off the bat as the BBC blog suggested. If you’re prepared to buy a player than be prepared to buy the player! Don’t try and negotiate a deal and then say “oh, wait, we agreed price x and now you want 1/2 of price x for the player right now. No, sorry, no deal.” That seems silly.

  510. Howard – So Wenger is actively trying to destroy Arsenal now. What is his exact plan of action?

  511. He sold out all our top players and brought in craps, in the name of ‘exceptional talent’

Arsene Wenger is taking us on the Brian Cough highway.

Blind fans; can’t you the the damage Arsene Wenger is now doing to the club?

  512. F*ck off, Howard

  513. Eyes but no eyes? Can’t you see what is happening?

People are thinking of giving up their tickets next season.

We’re being sold crap football at a very high cost.

  514. F*ck off Howard

  515. F. Frederick Skitty

    I agree with Howard.

  516. Howard, why dont you go and watch really exciting football like what chelsea and liverpool served up yesterday – Scunthorpe and Rotherham in disguise………

  517. F*ck off Howard.

  518. F. Frederick Skitty

    …being told to f*ck off.

  519. Come and see the freak everyone…come on gather round….we have a captured a spud freak….come and have a poke….isn’t he ugly…oh and spitting wild….sniffing round the blog site he was….he calls himself Howard….

  520. F*ck off FSS.

  521. More trouble for us. Arshavin deal said to have collapsed now.

  522. f…off howard

  523. F*ck off spudy Howard.

  524. Howard – I hope your right re season tickets. If enough people chuck in there tickets I might just move far enough up the list to get one.

  525. Oops, sorry FFS.

  526. Us Howard? Why should the deal falling through cause trouble for the spuds…except of course that our boys are going to play you off the park…thats right your park next Sunday…

Come on, AIC…wheres your bottle…we have your freak friend Howard here…you not going to defend him? Some friend you turned out to be…..but then most pessimists are cowards….

AW needs us more than ever now….we had better not let him down…..

    ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL

  527. We are the Arsenal. We are the best.

  528. F. Frederick Skitty

    Consolsbob,

Quick on the trigger there! No worries though, We’re all a little on edge. Thank God for Howard’s ever useful contributions to divert us.

  529. i have more and more respect for arsenal fc and monsieur arsene wenger.i dont care if we finish 5th as long as we dont end up like leeds.keep the faith gooners.howard should be celbrating with the spuds fans instead of waisting his time on this blog.up the gunners.in arsene i trust.

  530. The main should leave now. He’s lost it big time.

I’m now convinced that his success was built on what Graham did.

Graham left behing players like Dixon, Bould, Seaman, Keown, Adams, Winterburn, Wright and he just build on it adding on the French boys Henry, Veira, Anelka, Pires etc

We should give some credit to George Graham who brought in the English boys that built a foundation for Arsene Wenger to achieve success.

Now that he’s been left alone AW don’t know what to do.

  531. Agree with Frank, it’s frustrating not to sign but now the team needs real supporters more than ever before. We have to let them know we believe in them, we believe in Arsene….all the way to the end.

Spuds like Howard are so happy they are buying all their players back so they can repeat the glory of the tin cup.

Mind the gap spuds, you might get relegated.

  532. Blind fans

Its amazing; when an Arsenal fan says the truth he’s labeled as a Spuds.

  533. Glad to see this renaissance of the hard line attitude to Howard. Some people were starting to agree with him a day or two ago.

  534. Ah, I see you intend to remove the distinction between singular and plural. Interesting innovation.

  535. Agree with G4E about the team needing support now but Frank, I must disagree about AIC and Howard being in the same boat. Calling most pessimists cowards makes you guilty of making gross generalizations. Now who else who posts on here does that on a regular basis…I wonder.

  536. eboue’s friend

No wonder Eboue is crap and the most useless waste of fans hard-earned money.

  537. the thing with howard is he is racist,he`d rather have arsenal full of average english players than good foreign players.

  538. F*ck off bloody Supddy Howard.

  539. well the word i should have used is xenophobe

  540. Come on everyone…..the f*cking freak wants to chat….this is the sort of monster that the pessimists revere…this is what they aspire to…come and look…..a shining example…

  541. F*ck off Howard.

  542. Friendly fire, FFS. Blue on blue if you will forgive the language.

The less literate Howard is back. Arsene must have shot the more literate one.

  543. Howard – Re your post @ 6.21pm. Are you serious? What about the Invincible’s. How many Graham players in that. You are going from the sublime to the just bloody stupid.

  544. Oh f*ck off Gris Gris…wise up…what do you think this is all about, banana brain…you are being suckered…….

  545. Surely it would only be a generalisation if he said ALL pessimists are cowards. At worst, he can be accused of exaggeration.

  546. howard, go and support lazio

  547. Now that is a gross generalisation. Some bananas make jolly good brains.

  548. SSN are still putting out reports that the deal could go through. What the f*ck is going on.

  549. Nobody knows anything at the moment.

  550. the deal will go through and arshaving will score the winning goal against howards team on sunday.

  551. Who cares about gross generalisations.

It’s the gross fans that upset me.

  552. Poliziano

I’m not writing a theses and I don’t have time to read over while putting my opinion across, right?

You can believe Arsene Wenger even if he’s pushing you over the cliff. That’s you. I will retain my freedom to talk about our beloved Arsenal.

  553. Extra time was going to be allowed for clubs whose deals were delayed by the snow. Perhaps negotiations are still underway.

  554. I can’t make up my mind which Howard would prefer. Arsenal to sign Arshavin and be a major flop or Arsenal not to get the player.

  555. Howard,
How many of the comments on here do you believe constitute part of a thesis?

  556. Let’s stick to “F*ck off Howard” we don’t want to discuss anything with that Spud. He likes that, it makes his instigation of us successful.

F*ck off Howard will do just fine.

  557. f*ck off howard then

  558. Queen of Suburbia

    I counted 14.

  559. The next phase to cure ourselves and get rid of the Howard disease is to ignore him completely.

  560. Gillette is definately not the best a man can get.

    Especially in January.

  561. I do hope the deal for this player goes through and that he can get settled in quickly. We just a need a little bit more creativity and we can turn these draws into wins.

  562. Seems a bit odd to give a dispensation to a club because of snow in a deal with a Russian club…in the winter…do they get a special dispensation for dealing with English clubs because of the rain at any time of year…?

  563. …oh I forgot…..f*ck off Howard…

  564. I like Howard. He is a true fan. He tells us like it is. Not like Arsene Wenger who is about as articulate as a lead balloon on heat.

Give the man his credit. It’s obvious that all our success was built on what Georgie did way back in the early 90s and were it not for some Spur snatching we would be in this mediocre position a lot earlier. Right?

Good old British fight, now that’s what we needed and we had it in the Flamster until he f*cked off to the land of the Lira.

Is my diatribe more absurd than Icre Cream Alex or Howard Duck?

    Let me go on. :)

  565. is the deal off?

  566. Queen of Suburbia

Wenger has just told SSN that the deal WILL go through.

    I love Arsene.

  567. Arsene Wenger should go home; he’s failed.

He’s gradually bringing down the club by his actions.

The great spin doctor has got to his wits end.

His work for the last 4 years make some of us wish for the return of Graham.

  568. I sincerely believe that Arsenal can still win the Premier League this season.

I know! I know! Its crazy in light of these modern reverberations of cynicism and credit crunchies.

That is enough for some of you to have heart palpitations.

(I am looking at you Mr Duck and Mr Cream)

  569. SSN Have just spoken to Wenger directly and asked 3 questions.

Asked whether an announcement would be made tonight:
An announcement will be made tonight.
It will be a positive announcement.

  570. I agree with you Mr Duck. Arsene should go home. It has been a long day but please let him eek out a deal for those Arse Shavings.

He could be the one that provides the oooooomph to Eboue’s pooooooomph.

  571. Thanks to you Pz, my egg production was down 75% today.

  572. When the weather is cold, a lot of time is taken up stamping feet, rubbing hands, adjusting scarves, and so on. All this slows negotiation.

  573. If Arsene says that then it`s a done deal. His middle name is Honest.

  574. Bit late reading the blog today. F*ck off Howard.

  575. Howard you know that Arsene is the best thing to happen to Arsenal.

Look this project may not come to fruition as fast as we had liked (we all feel that way), but it will happen.

You want to “kill the goose that laid the golden egg” and that is the last thing we should.

    A little more patience!

  576. Arsene talked openly & freely about why he want to sign AA. Arsene will never do that if he was not sure we got him. I will only believe we didn’t if it’s on Arsenal.com, I will also believe we did sign him when it’s on Arsenal.com.

  577. Why are Chelsea taking players on loan?
What’s happened to all the money?

  578. “….last thing we should want”

  579. Hey, I didn’t cause the bad weather.

  580. Queen of Suburbia

    It got crunched Marc.

  581. G4E, thats true, the rest is media hype really.

  582. There is a picture on ArsenalDOTcom of Arshavin walking over the bridge to New Highbury.

  583. LOL Steve….you have 20/20 vision?

  584. I bet he just used the screen magnifier.

  585. Have you thought of any names yet, QoS?

  586. How about Arsene for a boy, or Arsenna for a girl?

  587. Sounds like we got him

  588. CNN Illustrated

    Arshavin signs for Arsenal

He’s just saved Arsene Wenger’s head

  589. Arsene says: F*ck Off Howard

  590. F*ck off Howard

  591. “He’s just saved Arsene Wenger’s head”…..

    and revealed Howard’s neurosis.

  592. F*ck off Howard

  593. Shaved Arsene’s head? I think that must have been mistranslated.

  594. Yeah F*ck off Howard – you’ve even driven me to it!

  595. If we really signed him, Arsene would have been successful in bamboozling every newspaper and everyone.

That’s why the Spud Howard is mad…Arsene is f*cking him off day & night.

  596. Queen of Suburbia

It’s going to be a Boy PZ…so right at this moment Arsene is in amoungst the favourites…although given this little saga, Chase might also be appropriate!

  597. **Passenal is the Queen of all Stars**

  598. The Spuds now have a front line that cost in the region of £60 million. Behind this they have 2 midfielders that cost the best part of £30 million plus all the other money that they have pissed up the wall. All this to finish mid table at best.

I wish my team were as well run.

  599. ….f*ck off again, Howard

  600. What about Andrei?

  601. Queen of Suburbia

Maybe that was the hold-up, Arsene has a lovely mop of hair and didn’t want to lose it.

  602. I dont understand what the spurs are doing, pretty dumb.

  603. What about Skeeter?

  604. …Robin would be best….

  605. Queen of Suburbia

I prefer it to Eboue…thats for sure!

  606. F. Frederick Skitty

    Paul N,
Would you please make me the happiest man in the world and just tell Howard to f*ck off? I think he’d listen to you.

I know, at least, a little part of you would love to. Come on Paul N life is for living.

  607. Spuds buy back players they won nothing with even when they were at the `stain’ before.

  608. Prince Andrei sounds good.

  609. Queen of Suburbia

Not easy to fit on the back of his Arsenal shirt though…

  610. I suspect Arsene has another signing on the cards.

  611. FFS, I know but I must resist temptation! ha

I’m kiddin Howie I dont want to curse you out but a kick in the batty might help. hee.

  612. Why do you say that, OG?

  613. If that fee of £12 mil is correct then Arsenal stuck to their policy.

  614. “I can confirm that the deal is definitely off,” Zenit spokesman Alexei Petrov told Reuters

  615. THE DOOMERS

  616. adc, at least that article points out the fact that Andrei would not be ready to play immediately – some fans need to get that thought into their heads – if the signing is confirmed.

  617. I have not posted for a while but I thought that I would add to the debate constructively.

    F*ck off Howard

  618. Queen of Suburbia

You’ve met my in-laws then Muppet?

  619. QOS

    Terence Henry please.

    Oh, & F*CK OFF Howard

  620. where is ethan gunner these days?

  621. QoS… ha ha. Don’t mention that. My wife reads this blog.

  622. The BBC is also suggesting the deal is done.

  623. what have I missed? Is it really off?

  624. Ateeb, if he’s going to join us you need to get his name right! It’s Arshavin not Ashravin!

  625. There are conflicting reports, TC, but more are positive than negative.

  626. where is ethan gunner these days

  627. The report from Zenit chairman is from about 5pm.

  628. Scanning down the posts all I can see is fuck off Howard.

Looks like the thought-police are out in force.

I don’t believe what Howard says about AW deliberately ruining Arsenal but Howard should be allowed to express his opinion.

  629. Thanks Poliz!
    Hope for the positive!

  630. Scanning down the posts all I can see is f*ck off Howard.

Looks like the thought-police are out in force.

I don’t believe what Howard says about AW deliberately ruining Arsenal but Howard should be allowed to express his opinion.

  631. Apologies Passenal. Got a bit excited. Still awaiting official confirmation though.

  632. You must have poor eyesight if that is all you can see.

  633. Poliziano,

I have the feeling because if Arsene was truly winning to say Arshavin is in the bag, and the announcement will come later, it might mean another deal is in the bag. Nothing stops Arsenal from announcing Arshavin immediately if Wenger is willing to comment on it. One reason could be if they’re trying to pull another late deal. All speculation of course….

After this I just hope Arsenal fans lose the taste for transfer speculations….this Arshavin deal has been on and off more times than a stripper’s bra. It’s just not worth the emotional roller coaster.

  634. This Arshavin saga is just amazing. I am laughing as I type.

Surely the most on-off transfer ever. We have passed the deadline and still nobody know what’s going on.

You have pictures of him at the airport, in Hertfordshire and apparently on the bridge near the stadium. Its hilarious.

  635. AIC,

Howard is entitled to his neurosis and all others are entitled to give him a cheap diagnosis.

  636. I stopped reading this site in the hope the scum would disappear; but they (you know who you are) are too stupid to understand even basic human dynamics.

Me? I’m off to start my own web-site!

Rest assured I’ll moderate out comments from c***s!

To those of a sensitive nature; please understand this is not a word I use lighly but sometimes its the only word to describe the c***s(you still know who you f*****g are)

  637. If this site employs any thought police, they ought to be fired, because Howard’s opinion has appeared here more often than anything else – even more often than Paul N’s opinion that RvP should have played on Saturday.

  638. …Howard is allowed to express his opinion….and so am I …f*ck off Howard

  639. …oh and stop wheedling, AIC….

  640. Sorry Paul N.

  641. Frank,

    Fu*k off!

See we can all do it.

  642. You’re a quick learner AIC. Unfortunate that it only applies in you learning abusive words.

  643. Ateeb,

I think you mean “only applies to you learning abusive words”

Also who the fuc* is Ashravin. Is he Andrei’s 15 yr old mate who we have signed for £1m?

  644. QoS : In-law joke that was actually funny! cool.
Howard – hope you stay; glad you’re not a wuss like NYMarcus and loads of others.

Deeply unfashionable atm, but like you, and enjoy taking the piss now and again. But please be literate and not so boring!

  645. Hahaha…..touchy we in today?

No I Mean “only applies IN you learning abusive words?” lol.

And Ashravin is just a spelling mistake. I know it will take you time to get over it. But don’t worry you’ll make it. I forgot that you’d be really sensitive to whoever we sign in this window. I’m really sorry for that spelling mistake. Hope you can forgive. You’re not going to enjoy the transfer anymore? Did I really ruin it for you?

  646. fuck off howard

  647. …I am feeling really good about Arsenal this evening…becuase I always do…..but this evening belongs to Arsene Wenger…what a hero……and what a great evening to be a gooner…

    F*ck off Howard…..

  648. Alex Ice Cream

Thank god we have transfer windows..else the saga wud go on all season long…but i agree this one has contradiction practically everyday..well before the window opened and now even after it has closed…

somehow we have some affiliation with delay in transfer..remember even nasri was very prolonged

  649. PZ be EZ, Im cool with a little joking.

I just know not mention things more than once, I will enjoy my bone by myself and make sure I get all the marrow out of it, that how us carribean dogs do it.

  650. I agree with Frank….So, f*ck off Howard, f*ck off to any one who follows you like brainless chickens.

  651. There`s more f*ck offs tonight than on a wildcat picket line.

Anyone heard any news on Diaby / Eboue injuries ?

  652. Not me PW, I know that Diaby is suspended anyways for his fifth yellow. No news about them on Arsenal.com either.

  653. Would be just our kind of luck that during one of Diaby’s best performances he would get injured – hoping its not too bad.

  654. G4E – It’s a bit old now, but genuinely sorry about the AZ Cardinals..didn’t know it was their 1st Superbowl, and as AZ is the only State i know, feel a bit sad.
Always next year!! Never got the hang of the game though; why do they keep stopping all the time ? (Apart from the massive $$$ ad breaks).
Used to listen to some station, years ago, in JP, with commentary – was like wtf ?
Am just yakking here to take the mind off the AA meeting, er, signing.

  655. At least Eduardo should be fit for our replay against Cardiff.

  656. Man I need to go pray after reading all the 4 letter words today.

  657. I thought after Arizona’s last touchdown they would win it. They played great but the defense let up a little on that last drive.

They played brilliant, thats for sure.

  658. If no one on the Giants shoots themselves next year, I could seem them making a push also.

  659. Arsenal have class…….come on gooners…we have class too….we get behind our team…we are loyal to the best manager this club has ever had….we do not desert (is that dessert, Poliziano?)…..becuase we are hip …we are cool…we are Arsenal and we rule…lalalalaaaah…lalalaaah..lalaaaah…….when our club succeeds and it surely will…we will be proud because we were there …we played our part…not bitched and moaned and claimed our ‘democratic right’ to criticize….we knew how hard it was…how f***ing hard it is…..because Arsenal you are a part of us and we are a part of you…….and we are gooners and it is always a good day to be a gooner….always…

    ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL ARSENAL

  660. …quite right, Paul N…go on f*** off and pray…..

  661. Thanks for the compliment Frank!

You are a gentleman and a scholar!

  662. Yeah PonyB, I normally don’t watch American Football but since it was Arizona (My State) and it was also their first time to reach the final in like 80 years….I felt so bad, I too thought that with 2:30 minutes left we would win…but it turned out 2:30 minutes is a long time in American football too :)

They do stop a lot which is one of the reasons why I don’t like it much…but with all the tries, and yards and flags flying every where ( I was afraid somebody will get injured by one of these flags at some point.

I guess Arizona played well, but the Steelers had the extra bit of experience…it’s their 6th Super Bowl to win.

    No hard feeling though :)

  663. Hey Frank,

Go easy on Paul N… he’s a committed gooner.

  664. Frank –
Am sure your prayers would be more effective.. you’re so close to God Herself! On your knees, man!!

  665. Cheers muppet!

  666. I’ve got my little icon showing Arsene in Glory. I’ve got my Arsenal kneeling-cushion. But what am I supposed to pray for?

  667. News change (yawn) – Lachter confident deal will be done on tuesday… Seeing as the window closed at 5pm, except for various things, like snow and Russians hitting back the vodka… no, simply can’t care enough.
    WHAT is the problem ??

  668. Your own wicked soul Polizi ?

  669. I am as proud of this team as anyone else and know it is just matter of time before things fall into place. Al little dissapointed but I am surely not calling for Wengers head, neither Ade’s or Eboue’s – they will come good.
I have faith in Arsene and this group of players!

  670. My Spanish GF wants to spend time with her husband tonight… how sick is that ??

  671. Arshavin conclusion on hold
Premier League to announce outcome to Russian’s protracted saga

  672. Ponydeal,

The problem is that the agreement was reached after the 5pm deadline, and it still needs to be ratified by the premiership. Since they have gone home early from their highly paid jobs, maybe to avoid being marooned in the snow, they are probably unable to do this until tomorrow.

  673. Our Wenger, who art at Arsenal,
    hallowed be thy name,
    thy kingdom come,
    thy will be done,
in matches as it is at Colney.
Give us this day our daily goals,
    and forgive us our errors,
    as we punish those
    who score goals against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.
    For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
    for ever and ever.
    Amen.

  674. What does your French girlfriend want, Ponyboy?

  675. …don’t expect me to get all touchy feely, Muppet….if Paul N feels the need to pray he should do so….I don’t need to know about it…..

  676. Muppet

It seems so..if premier league doesnt have ppl unfavourable to us…it cud go thru..

but to speak as neutral and not as fan…they shudnt allow it to happen…3 parties had full one month to do the deal..and yet they needed additional few hrs..its ridiculous..

but then we are hard bargainers..and this time we might have met our match…

what amazes me is that no other club came in for arshavin…city..madrid..spuds..with all the money they are spending..12 mil is steal for arshavin..it amazing and it baffles me..

  677. She wants everything ! Husband, kids, money, and – weirdly, me. And to remain Spanish, probably..

    Thanks, Pz..all prayers helpful!

Still, Keane to get an injury would be nice.

  678. …btw I don’t think that the Premier League have any jurisdiction over transfers…only the respective FAs in communication with UEFA/FIFA…..f***ing arseholes to a man…and occasional woman…the FA in this country is an organisation dominated by the North West…well…draw your own conclusions…..do you realise that there is an FA CEO and staff for every county in England? …and some of you f***ers talk about democracy………

  679. adc,

On your last point, yeah, I don’t understand why there wern’t anymore suitors. Perhaps the interested clubs previously, like Barcelona, Spurs have similar players. I don’t know why Man City didn’t jump in though.

  680. He probably told them “Niet”.

  681. You are right Frank, the premier league is a rubber stamping organisation. It was mentioned on the Sunday Supplement. They just wheel in lawyers and facilitators to make sure documents get signed.

  682. Oh Ponyboy, you are so cruel,
I really am a good old fool.
I never drink, I never smoke,
I seldom tell a dirty joke.
I’ve been a-whoring now and then,
but no more so than other men.
And now my passions are decayed,
I no more think of getting layed.
So many years have now gone by,
I’ve nothing left to do but die.

  683. Oh Frank, its not like to to be so touchy.

But anyhow it is always a compliment when you comment about me – so once again thank you very much.

You wear you f words like a badge of honour!
How proud it must make you feel. I think you need to find the person who came up with that word and tell them how thankful you are for it.
How else would you be able to encourage so many people with such a short statement.

  684. Arshavin wants to play for Arsenal…and his club have actively tried to prevent him from doing so….Zenit St Petersburg lack class….of course the doomers will have it that this is AWs fault or at least AFC s fault…naaaah…..Zenit have lost a lot of friends over the last few weeks….their star will fade and die shortly…never really made a mark on footall history…Arsenal on the other hand are on the ascendancy…class always prevails…..

  685. …it is just a word, Paul N

  686. Oh and you use it well my friend, you use it well.

I tip my hat to you!

  687. It’s a very popular word. It’s the first one foreign footballers learn when they come to this country – and often the only one.

  688. Patronize me please

  689. Eh, swearwords come in and out of fashion. A word loses shock value the more it’s used and another word suddenly becomes scandalous and take its place. You’ll find the occasional ‘cu*t’ in really old books I think. It wasn’t a big deal back then.

  690. Well it as very powerful word that commands utmost respect, isnt it.

  691. Well if all that’s true then it’s lost some of its power after today. LOL.

  692. Oh Lord, “Patronize me please”

Speak Lord for your servant is listening!

  693. …will you not have to pray for tipping your hat at someone for saying f*ck off….given that you have to pray for so many people saying f*ck off this evening?….it seems that the christian equivalent of the FA is operating here, Paul N….

  694. Yeah, Iago was a bit of a c*nt.

  695. ….well I just use it because I was brought up that way, ffs….

  696. …which bit?….

  697. I get the green eyed monster at the way you can drop literary references.

  698. A big ugly bit.

  699. I’m a c*nt for saying that.

    Back to the football.

  700. …no such thing….

  701. I was not going top pray for anyone using that word, I meant to pray for myself.

It is why we must not jump to conclusions and be too touchy my friend.

You know what they say about Assuming – it makes an “a**” out of “u” and “me”.

  702. adc, the paperwork was faxed in time, but I’m sure the F.A. let people go home early because of the weather so haven’t managed to rubber-stamp it. However, Arsenal being the classy outfit they are, would not announce the deal until all i’s are dotted and t’s crossed so there will be no egg on our faces. A lot of other clubs are probably waiting for the same thing, but have not held back making announcements, which is their prerogative.

  703. You are like billy the kid – you “shoot first and ask questions later”. Ha!

All in all Frank, and all the others who support the team through the thick and thin, ups and downs, it is honorable.

  704. Aren’t you guys happy Arshavin is finally a gooner? instead you are discussing the word C**t.

  705. Passenal….you are the greatest star of all…

  706. I was so nervous with mixed news on the deal past 5PM that I went to the kickboxing class.
That is really good for taking out frustration and anger (though I felt so sorry for my sparring partner).

    Anyway,
    Good night fellow gooners!
Hoping to wake up to the good news tomorrow morning!

PS> My respect for AW and the club is soaring high tonight.

  707. …multi-threading…

  708. I can see how many fans would complain like disgruntled customers if the ‘product’ doesn’t meet the high standards they’re accustomed to.

Given the winter we’re having, and our faltering form, I’ve got lots of respect for any fans that can go every fortnight and still remain positive, even away from the ground.

It could be that Arsenal fans are learning what it means to be a fan even if they are paying lots of money. I think seasons like this will give the place a bit more of an identity. It could do a lot of good to get through disappointments together.

  709. We can multi-task Le Gunner

  710. If the FA refuse to ratify the transfer they will find themselves with a court case on there hands. A player is not allowed to resign within a year of leaving a club. The Spud’s have received permission twice this transfer window do resign Defoe and Keane.

  711. “We’re having…” – LOL! Not me suckers! Although I would like some snow. Not the nose kind.

3rd para should be “Arsenal followers”…

  712. Not me wither Big Al…it 74F in AZ…it’s hot in here :)

  713. Yikes! Tough Cookie’s a kickboxer.

  714. Nothing like that here – it’s just mild. Unlucky last night btw. Close call.

  715. Yep Poliziano…so watch your behind now. :)

  716. Thanks Big Al….it WAS so close.

  717. Gunnerforever- I wonder what everybody is doing while blogging.

  718. I’m at work with two hands on the keyboard at all times :)

  719. On-off media reporting on AA’s transfer & their ‘source’ –

It was autumn, and members of a Native American tribe asked their new Chief if the coming winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a new Chief in a modern society and had never been taught the old secrets of Nature, he looked up at the sky and had no clue what to do. To play it safe, he replied to his tribe that the winter could definitely be cold and that they should collect firewood early, just to be prepared. So, the members began gathering wood.

Being a practical leader, he figured he should also use the resources available to the modern society. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, “Will this winter be cold?”

“As of now, it looks like this winter is going to be quite cold,” the forecaster said.

So the Chief went back to his tribe and told them to collect even more wood. A week later he called the National Weather Service again and asked for an update.

“Yes,” the man at National Weather Service again replied, “based on incoming data, this winter is looking to be colder than we expected.” The Chief was surprised, but again went back to his tribe, told them that this might be a very cold winter, and asked them to collect every scrap of wood they could find.

One week later, the Chief called the National Weather Service yet again, hoping for a new answer. “Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?”

“Positive,” the man replied. “It’s going to be one of the coldest winters ever.”

“Really?” the shocked Chief exclaimed. “How can you be so sure?”

“First,” the forecaster replied, “The Indians are collecting firewood like crazy.”

  720. Drinking neat vodka to celebrate the signing of Arshavin?

Le Gunner, I’m sure we’ll have more to say when he is officially confirmed, but unlike many gooners I do not expect him to be the saviour of our season as I think we already have many quality players some of whom are only lacking a little experience. In fact, I don’t expect much from Andrei until next season as he will still need time to adjust to Arsenal and the PL. I don’t therefore intend to be one of these who is going OTT and expecting him to perform miracles from day one and therefore calling him ‘sh*t’ after a couple of less than stellar performances! Every thing in moderation (except Arsenal of course!).

  721. F. Frederick Skitty

    Passenal,

I agree, nevertheless even more quality in the squad can only be a good thing. I really hope this does go through.

With any luck it should shut some of our more superficial supporters up. It should remind them of the classy way Arsenal and AW do business.

    £14m for Craig Bellamy anyone?

  722. Passenal- No he won’t be our saviour but he will add something which is lacking at moment a bit of creativity and movement around the box-The first time I saw him was in eufa cup qualifiers and I said to myself he is an Arsenal player it written all over him with his quick moves and trickery. I don’t think he will need a lot of time he seems to be physically strong he should cope with the bullies in premiership. WEnger always gives new players 6 months to adjust so no pressure from the manager and that is more important.
Gunner4ever: smetimes you don’t need 2 hands to be doing something else

  723. Le gunner, I’m not suggesting you are one of those type of Arsenal fans, but I’ve seen a few of them going completely over the top in terms of their expectations of what one player can bring to the team, while totally dismissing the efforts of our current young gunners who have brought us a 10-game unbeaten run.

Once the signing is confirmed, I will be as happy as anyone because he has the potential to add another creative outlet to our team. I just don’t want to overload him with a weight of expectation, which I feel would be unfair to him.

  724. We will see Le Gunner, the same people dying for a signing and calling Wenger stingy and all that…will be the first to jump down AA throat if he doesn’t perform miracles from his first touch of a football. Time will tell.

But I need two hands to work :) Ok, let’s move on this subject or Paul N will be praying we go to a not very nice place….

  725. Possible formations for the EPL and FA (assuming that no eggs on my face tomorrow)

    +++++++++Al++++++++++++++++++

    Sagna++++Toure++++Djourou+++Clichy

    Arsh+++++Abou+++Denilson++++Nasri

    ++++++++++++RVP

    +++++++++ADE

I think Gallas will play mainly in the CL/FA

What do you guys think the formation will be when
Fabs, Rosicky, Eds and TW return?

  726. Strikers (in order of importance)
    RvP, Ade, Eduardo, Bendtner, Vela

    Attacking wide midfielders:
    Arshavin, Rosicky, Nasri, Walcott

    Central midfielders:
Fabregas, Denilson, Diaby, Song (with Ramsey, Wilshere and Merida in pipeline)

    Central Defence:
    Djourou, Gallas, Toure, Silvestre

    Fullbacks:
    Clichy, Sagna, Eboue, Gibbs

    GK
    Almunia, Fabianski

Quite an impressive array of talent there!

  727. Also for the main squad of 23 above (excluding Ramsay, Wilshere and Merida) the average age is just over 24 !

  728. F*ck off Howard.

Just in case you say something while I’m sleeping.

  729. I agree with Le Gunner. Let us not forget also that he is moving from the Rosgosstrakh Championship which is a physicallly hard league (more so than the EPL!) and he is used to being kicked at in tough away games. Imagine going to FC Luch-Energiye-Vladivostok in Eastern Russia for your away games?
It would be easier to play in the J League!

I love the Arsenal cynics. They complain that we are mediocre and to be honest that is almost complimentary because if we can qualify for the Champions League (1) by not spending money & (2) relying upon ‘mediocre’ players to replace our injury prone team -surely we should be delighted that we are 5th and not Spurs?

Your know what they say? Never go back. Only foward.

    Arsene forever!

  730. QoS @ 5 PM Monday

You said it all QoS. The authors of LG are just interested in being customers of Arsenal rather than fans.

Big Al and Muppet have noted that their site as a ‘commercial leaning; and I cant agree more –

    a) Look at their ‘ticket exchange’. All the ticket trading happens at a profit right?

    b) The almost irrational gloating about the number of comments logged. They almost sound like a newspaper gloating about circulation numbers.

Opportunistic customers of Arsenal is what they are.

  731. Alex

Selling tickets is illegal. The ticket Exchange on Le Grove is, of course, a non profit making initiative. It was formed in the innocent hope of trying to keep the ground full and there by improving the atmosphere.
I do not have the skills to start my own web site; I am not sure whether you do; but, if you went to all that trouble I am sure that you would be proud of creating a site that attracts such a large and diverse readership.
    Petty Jibes to follow:

  732. Guys i just found out and I’m f**king over the moon.

Yes jbh what an array indeed.
I expect we’ll salvage this season, get the injured back, sell off the dregs in the summer, have a great training camp and destroy all opposition next season.

    Well done AW, well done.
Welcome AA to the greatest ball club on the face of the Earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Dude pick a temporary number, we’ll get 10 back for u next season!

    Love your commitment always Frank.
    Gunners for LIFE!!!

    F*ck off Howard!!!!

  733. It would certainly be a good idea if club level people… the tickets to which you refer, London…actually sat in their seats for the game instead of watching the game on TV. Club level is always almost empty quite a while before the end of the game. It is a like a f***ing noose of despondency around the stadium…bad design and bad supporters I reckon. If it is the intention of the fellows on these other sites to fill up club level seats then hats off to them…if indeed that is the intention…..pity they can’t do that without insulting our manager at every opportunity though….

    F*ck off Howard

  734. …..sorry I almost forgot….really exciting day today….Zenit are a very tough club to do business with…if it comes off then I reckon these are the first signs that IG and AW work well together….well done both…

What a fantastic day to be a gooner…..

  735. It would be a bloody excellent day to be a Gooner Frank.

Trouble is, I’m still fuming that Pz upset my chickens, had the gall to blame the weather and, to add insult to injury, G4E called them stupid.

May as well give up on any eggs today. Hard to get excited abut some Russian in these circumstances.

  736. …very temperamental your chickens, Cb?…..right little free range prima donnas?..

  737. They are treated very sensitively Frank.

Trouble is they really are bloody thick (that’s just between us you understand).

  738. Whatever you say London. Apologists of all hues are welcome to state their opinion.

  739. The aim of Zen (it) is to shroud enlightenment through procrastination, usually under guidance of bogus spokesmen who provide contradictory statements that help Arsenal followers transcend rational thought.

  740. ARSHAVIN CONCLUSION

Word spread yesterday that combined special forces and the CIA broke into the Lubyanka building and whisked Arshavin on a private jet to a landing strip near Arsenal’s Colney training ground. After days of interrogation, Arshavin was none for worst for the experience and was seen texting on his mobile phone in St Albans high street.

Maxim Kalishnikov, a KGB colonel, the director of Zenit football club, frantically attempted to contact russian and arab allies to resecure the release of Andrei Sergeyevich Arshavin. An arms deal, including russian missile stock, was offered to several middle eastern states for the capture of Arshavin, but it was said that a conflict interest with Al Maktoum, Dubai’s ruling family, was thought to be a deal breaker.

According to Reuters/AP, a mole within Sky Sports spread disinformation throughout the day, to confuse the enemy. Contradictory news stories appeared whilst russian special forces were seen roving around in taxis in the north london area, scuttling between Highbury House and Heathrow Airport. The news finally broke that Arsenal had agreed a fee with Zenit, and the detente had been broken.

  741. Muppet, that’s just pure quality.

  742. If this is true, Muppet..then these Zenit people are without doubt real f***ers….

  743. lol.. Yogi has a new post.
