Here’s Jack, Arsene On Signings And The Season

Two posts in two days? Yea Gods, it is enough to get some paranormal investigations going.

Arsene has had a ‘Shining‘ moment, chopping through the door of young Master Wilshere’s door with an axe and thrusting a contract through, promising only to leave if Jack signed it, which he duly did. Wenger calmed down and said:

We are delighted that Jack has signed a professional contract with us. Jack is a player with great potential, with an ability to find the final ball and also score goals.  Jack is a passionate and committed young player, he is not afraid of tackles and I am convinced he will have tremendous penetrative power in a few years.  We have already seen Jack’s qualities in both his first team performances and in training on a regular basis, and we look forward to Jack being an important part of our first team for years to come

The way things are developing in this transfer window, it may be the only signing that Arsene makes! Wilshere though is beginning to build a lot of hype around himself – unintentionally – and that is the aspect of his career that Wenger will have to manage carefully. The history of football is littered with prodigies who do not live up to their promise.

Arsene’s views on whom he will sign, if anyone, before the end of the month have attracted a fair amount of criticism and bemusement. Andrei Arshavin is widely presumed to have been the target of his comments that being cup-tied for the Champions League is not a dealbreaker. Equally though such comments could be directed at Yaya Toure, although in both cases, the dealbreaker will be the fees demanded by their current employers, especially if the reported £24m bid from Manchester City proves to have a shred of truth in it. They might well be consigned to the waste bin of Arsene’s ex-transfer targets along with Gorkan Inler. There are only two more left before everyone has to admit that they have no idea who Wenger is looking at.

And that is the crux of the matter in sifting through the stories that emerge concerning this or that player’s future. Where is the truth? Often you find yourself reading the bilge and questioning who has planted the story on whatever site or paper’s back page – is it a bored journo or the agent or a media hungry President or any combination of the three? It makes this a turgid time of year because too much is presented as the truth with the ubiquitous sources claiming to represent the player’s point of view when in fact it is nothing of the sort.

Theo Walcott is a prime example. Over the weekend, there were mutterings that lingered into this week surmising that he will leave for £350k unless a new contract is offered. This will no doubt filter back in one of two ways to supporters views. Firstly, the club is short of cash and cannot match Walcott’s wage demands, fuelling the ‘belief’ that the club is going to go under as ticket and marketing revenues dwindle because no silverware has been won. The second is that Wenger is off in the summer to Madrid or wherever the grass is reportedly greener. And so it goes until the point is reached where nobody knows their Arsenals from their elbows.

The FA Cup win brought an honest assessment from Wenger of the current situation that the squad is in:

I feel that we are not, at the moment, in a position where we can choose the competitions. If that happens we will do it later but at the moment I felt it was just important the team to go through.  I feel that slowly the team is coming up again and growing in confidence and I didn’t want to cut that confidence…We couldn’t afford to slip up here because we have had enough negative publicity…If you go through to the Champions League Quarter Finals and then to the Semi Finals, then you have a choice to make between the FA Cup and the Champions League. But, at the moment, we are not in that position

It is an honest assessment but reading between the lines of the paraphrased quote would be a hacks ‘wet dream‘. Not having seen the papers this morning, it could quite easily have been turned on its’ head to ‘Arsene admits that Arsenal are not good enough to win Premier League / Anything‘. Whoops, The Times has already done that one.

The danger with prioritising is that you invariably end up with egg on your face, unless the position held in one competition is uniquely strong. Whilst I do not disagree with his policy in the Carling Cup, I suspect that this time around the FA Cup might well receive a higher profile than in previous years simply because the Premier League title is nought but a vague dream at the moment. That said, a win combined with some inconsistency from those above would change the situation. However, there is too much reliance on four other teams to drop points on a regular basis for firm belief in a title challenge to emerge. It can be done but, to put it mildly, it will be tough.

’til Tomorrow.

Responses

  1. Thanks YW…the rest of this season is going to be tough…. so the team really need the twelfth man now more than ever……let us get behind them once and for all….

  2. We care so lucky to be Arsenal.

I mean the tots have just resigned Defoe for twice the fee they sold him for and, this is really funny, he’s still crap.

  3. YOGI these WALCOTT AND VAN PERSIE comments are inspired by their agents who want to get deals finalised.

I believe its time AW said we dont have any real money based on the boards balanced budget policy
so all we can sign is youngsters or unknowns and hope they succeed and our title hopes for this season are nearly out of the window and we need a lucky run in the FA cup and ECL, Hes done miracles on a shoestring but wages offered by MANCITY are obscene in these alleged credit crunch times

  4. Are we going to make the same mistake with Theo and RVP which we did with Flamini and let their contracts run into their last year when they can leave on a free?

I read that Theo is the lowest paid player in the first team squad this surely cant be true can it?

  5. oh ffs

  6. Good you have you posting back regularly, Yogi.

PSB: I have no idea but it could be close to reality if he hasn’t signed any new contract since he joined. He was 16 when he first came to us, and wasn’t even playing! So it makes sense.

On another note: Have you people read this? It’s interesting.

“Yes [I feel stronger now] and I’d just like to say thank you to my friends in the team, and to the staff and the boss,” he said.

“They helped me a lot after that game, because I was very disappointed and angry – not with the fans, but with the game itself. I’d tried to give my best but nothing came off for me, and I know these things can happen sometimes.

“But I have to thank the supporters – lots of people have said sorry to me and I’ve received a lot of cards and messages over the Christmas period, which has been really nice. So I’m feeling much better now and am pleased to have the chance to play. Against Portsmouth I was a little bit tired but I tried to give my best for the fans.”

    Emmanuel Eboué.

  7. That’s brilliant from Eboue. He may not exactly be the greatest footballer on earth, but as a person he’s earned my respect for showing some real dignity and respect in the face of adversity. If only he could transfer that kind of thing onto the pitch… still, well done Eboue.

Also I think Walcott is on 20,000 per week. Although that’s still a hell of a lot for a 19 year old to be earning, it’s kind of ridiculous when you consider what players like Adebayor must be on, plus the fact he’s a full England international now, plus how much other clubs would just love to have him… argh, come on Wenger get him tied down ffs! I’d love to see Theo still playing for us in 10 years time, and why not? No way are we going to lose him just as he’s starting to blossom.

  8. Glad to hear those positive words from eboue.
He may not the worldbeater but he is a very important and capable squad player. He’s still learning to play in the RM, but imho is doing quite well. And his importance as an excellent cover for the RB should not be forgotten – what’d happened in the manu game without eboue with sagna out injured!

All the talks about theo leaving for £400K just sounds silly – the media are at it again to stir things up at arsenal as much as possible. They are nothing but a prophet of doom and gloom. Times like this, the best thing we can do (or at least I can do) is to have faith in AW, in him being the best judge of players’ potential & ability, in him finding that special player that will give that extra 2% to our team already bursting with exceptionsl talents. At least, he is better than us!!

  9. Fair play Eboue – as TC says dignity and humility. Can I echo positive Frank? Let’s roar them over the line not skulk about whinging and whining.

  10. I read something on Newsnow earlier about Eboue being out of contract in June. Can anyone confirm this. Another player available for free. Slack work by the club imho. For a club to be so tight with money they don’t semem to mind letting player run down their contracts and leave for free. I don’t get it.

  11. It will be fantastic if the new MD can really make a difference to the signings / players’ contracts side of the game. We have gone quite a while without someone to relieve AW of some of this extra pressure / distraction.

If he does his job well, this appointment could prove to be a major turning point. It will be fascinating to watch.

  12. Thanks for that about Eboue, NEN ~ particularly like the fact that he mentioned how much support he got from the fans – cards and such.
Apart from on the pitch, who knows how much he gives in the dressing-room ?
    – really nice to read that.

  13. The club have now responded to my emails…they have forwarded my suggestions to the Atmosphere Coordinator…..what atmosphere would that be I wonder….any way good stuff….the address to write to with suggestions for improving the matchday experience is…

    Atmosphere Coordinator
    webforms@arsenal.co.uk

or you can go to the web site ‘contact us’ area and send a message…just put Atmosphere Coordinator at the top…..

Now we might just be getting somewhere….don’t forget the Upstairs at the Rocket, Saturday 13.00 -14.00 before the Bolton game….

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaa all….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal….ARSENAL

  14. This just in from the possible future….
There is a famous financial figure in the US who for decades has published an annual set of 10 wild predictions for the New Year ahead. Most are financially oriented, but with politics and even futurism built in.
Recently others have started copycatting, and for me the most notable is a really prescient hedge fund manager who gets a lot of exposure on the net and CNBC. As with the original, his predictions are meant to be unexpected, contrarian, against-the-odds kinds of things, but his hit rate (and he makes 20 predictions) has been improving every year. Last year by some measure it was 60%!
Anyway, this year his very first prediction concerns the Madoff scam, and the spin is that among the losers are Colombian drug cartels, Russian mafia figures…and Russian oligarchs.
To the tune of $2 billion.
This is supposed to come out in the next couple weeks. He even predicts that the Russians will try to assassinate old Bernie (several times), which will lead to more global tension, etc….
Never mind the killing and global tension. My reason for posting this, of course, is the marvelous opportunity to wonder whether a certain chevron-smiling owner of a nearby club — and more importantly a great, oozing aspirant closer to home – might be among the victims of this ‘might be’ prediction.
    Keep hope alive.

  15. Who are the new doomers amongst us? Where have they come from?

Has Legrove closed down? Is school out again?

Well done on the Club contact Frank. Have you learned anything about this “Atmosphere Coordinator”?

  16. I haven’t yet, Consolsbob…but I am on the trail…..Running Dog Capitalist Lackey the Fourth is proving to have quite nose for this stuff….

  17. …sorry here’s the missing ‘a’…

  18. hkm is along the right lines with the russian oliogarch thing.

this brings us back to the point that many of us have been trying to get across to the unhappy gooners amongst us – i.e. Arsene always sees the long game in that he knows it takes minimum 3 or 4 years to build a team. Arguably this will be his third or even fourth rebuild. He sees that we are built on strong foundations – living within our natural means, great stadium that max’s matchday revenues, good youth policy etc – whilst at same time he looks to manu (£770m mountain of debt at last count) liverpool (large debt about to get bigger to finance new stadium) and chelski (living beyond natural means, no youth policy, busted flush oligarch about to unravel) and he knows that in 2 years time we will be back at the top with the best 10 year outlook of any club in the premiership and arguably europe and the world.

and don’t be too bullish on mancity either – dubai is an even bigger pyramid scheme than bernie madoff.

  19. Matty, agreed on Dubai – but unfortunately Man City are Abu Dhabi (who i think i’m right in saying are already having to bail out Dubai to stop its pyramid – or palm or world – collapsing). Still the’re may be a knock on effect, fingers crossed……

  20. Who cares about Man City we will have a successful squad of very talented players who were brought up together….a recipe for success which will take many years to emulate.

  21. Chelsea are tightening their belt under the instruction of ..Putin?

“….Further economies remain under consideration, including a proposal to charge players for meals at the training ground”

Charging players for training ground meal!?

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jan/04/chelsea-premierleague

  22. afternoon fellas, interesting post, just want to say that the club buckled eventually for ade when they didnt get top price for him, i think flamini would’ve been worth it, adebayor’s not pulling his weight like he was last year! the one playing well now is rvp & that’s obv as nagotiations are underway. I just think the club should learn from Edu, flamini, diarra, very important players we let leave…im not etremely fussed about their over 30 policy but perhaps to CB & Keppers it can be adjusted as they have longer footballing lives. What gets to me is letting players contracts dwindle till last 12-18 months, esp when you see how quickly they tie be cesc’s every couple of years, it makes other players feel unimportant! we CANT afford to let players go cheaply like that again!
neway apart from that im really looking forward to the rest of the year, the team’s quietly put together a consistent run of results & with many key players to come back long may it continue, i think in our current state a key player for us this season will be Diaby..if he really puts it together he will be phenomenal!

  23. How can emirates continue to sponsor Arsenal when they own Manchester City ? Isn’t that a conflict of interest ?

  24. emirates airlines is owned by Dubai, not Abu dhabi

  25. err yeah good point Big Johan.
abu dhabi unfortunately built on more solid foundations than dubai (they do actually produce squillions of barrels of oil, whilst dubai basically ran out and rely on tourism and property).
so whilst the oil price is much lower they aren’t as wealthy as they were, but still wealthier than anyone else ……

russia / oligarchs are certainly imploding though
russian stock market collapsed more than anywhere else
    oil 60 pct lower.
    rouble collapsing.
putin not keen on any show of wealth

so in this financial nightmare every cloud has a silver lining, and if that bunch of tossers at stamford bridge go down the pan then it’s the biggest silver lining i can think of ….

  26. Ah.. yes.. the Maktoum family, not Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (had to look up the name !!).

    Thanks Mo.

  27. Ha Dubai….says Muppet….an anagram of Abu Dhabi

  28. Cosy up to Qatar…loads of gas…which might prove useful in the near future given the Russia/Ukraine gas situation…doesn’t matter though does it?…because AW already has the solution….got there before anyone else even thought about it……we are in clover with this manager…no doubt about it.

  29. Does the squad run on gas Frank ?

  30. …blogsites do so why not…?

  31. There are many of us who have believed for a long time that the chickens would, and should, come home to roost at clubs who live way beyond their means.

Despite, or maybe because of, media entreaties, I never felt sorry for Leeds or their thuggish fans who were very happy to see the club run into the ground on dodgy economics.

The Gillingham Chairman was interesting on this subject before the match against Villa. He fell out with the one time Chavs Chairman on just this issue. I know little about him but he was very bullish on football clubs having to live within their means. Good to see. I suspect that one day Chelsea and a few others will need a Chairman like him to pick up the pieces left by the overblown ambitions of their predecessors.

There was a hack on TV on Sunday lauing the gret ‘businss plan’ of ManU that brought continued success. He likened it to having a mortgage on your house. Complete spanner.

“Dear Prudence, open up your eyes”

God bless Arsene Wenger. Long Live Arsenal.

  32. Sorry…..”lauding the great business plan…

  33. I agree with Consolsbob

  34. Toure is on his way to City so we need a new CH.Upson for £5m + Bendtner?

  35. yes Consolbob, and that hack was Martin Samuel, undoubtedly the best football journalist in the country. he is normally the bloke who talks the most sense, i was shouting at the telly as he was talking such nonsense.

  36. Is this your usual cheerful insight PSB or do you really know something this time?

  37. I find Man. City rather funny. They can’t get the top players they promised to buy last year, so instead they are buying mediocre players for the price of the top players.

  38. I thought it was Yaya Toure on his way to Man City? How much would it cost for you to go to Man City, PSB?

  39. This is not my opinion but an observation of the combined view of all the experts out there. Apart from Cesc all of our players are sh*t. Therefore if Theo and Kolo and just about everybody else are going to leave us won’t that make the clubs they are going to worse? Also if Arsenal are broke with capacity gates the 2nd highest in the league and gate revenues that are amongst the top 2/3 in world football how is everyone else surviving? I know we have the stadium debt but this is roughly equal to what Liverpools debt is and half of ManU’s, the only difference is that our debt has hugely increased our revenue, the others are stuck with the debt with no benefit.

I would just love one of these “experts” to explain to me how this works.

  40. I’m not too happy with the changed FA 4th round tie – it’s now on Sunday 25/01 1:30PM. The next match is also away at Everton on Wednesday 28/01 8PM…

why don’t we play on Saturday!

  41. I heard that the owners of City want to gain prestige for their country. In fact, they can only bring it contempt. How pitiful must a country be if its leaders believe its prestige can be significantly increased by funding a football team?

If they had some players from Abu Dhabi, there might be some merit in it; but the truth is that the project can succeed only if input of every kind from the mother country is reduced to a minimum.

  42. Poliziano – I’m genuinely waiting for someone to seriously suggest the movement of some of the premier league clubs with foreign owners. ManU, Liverpool and Villa can go to the US, Chelsea to Russia, Man City to the Middle East, West Ham to Iceland and us to France (as everyone knows we are really a French club!)

Mark my words some idiot will float the idea eventually.

  43. I like your take on Man. C. Poliziano. Top stuff.

Let them buy Parker and that other underachiever from West ham. Pay top whack and rise to the dizzy heights of ,,oh, lets say..15th in the table.

With you too Marc. Where are those experts when you need them?

  44. Arsenal All The Way.

  45. City already have good players. They ought to be much higher in the league than they are. A lot of people are blaming Mark Hughes, but I blame the doctor of oil pumping who started shouting his mouth off in September. He’s made almost every player at the club think he will be discarded at the first opportunity.

  46. Amusing to contrast his style of leadership with Wenger’s.

  47. Yes, but it was the previous owners who got rid of the Swede who was doing quite a good job. Many of the players who played for him are not playing for Hughes.

Those city fans love the doctor of oil pumping though don’t they? Mind you, how many Arsenal fans wanted the fat Russian to be our very own sugar daddy?

Amusing to contrast any other club’s leadership with Arsene’s.

  48. I don’t so much find it amusing as with great relief! £100,000 a week for Scott Parker!

  49. I think the problem is Hughes, he is used to playing with the STUPID physical GIANT players of Blackburn. Now he has to deal with Superstars like Robinho and he doesn’t know how to do that. I don’t think Hughes will last for very long. It doesn’t make sense to pay 100s of millions on players and not have a Super manager. It’s inevitable he will be sacked…just when is the question.

  50. G4E – When Cesc pointed that out to him he was slagged off by just about everybody. Funny how none of them will remember that in a couple of months.

  51. @G4E:
“It doesn’t make sense to pay 100s of millions on players and not have a Super manager”

Actually it makes a LOT of sense because they are paying 100m+ pounds on mediocre players!

  52. Arshavin – could happen . . .
    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11670_4756237,00.html

  53. ToughCookie – Makes you wonder if the boys from the desert have ever watched any football, if not then who is advising them?

  54. I agree with ToughCookie. No other superstars are on the way at the moment. Robinho’s the only one, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave before long. Buying him was just a stunt.

I think Eriksson is an excellent manager – much better than Hughes; but I’m sure Hughes would have done better if the doctor of oil pumping had either stayed away or kept silence.

  55. From what Borat tells us, they’re more interest in camel milking than football.

  56. Excellent memory, Marc.

There are very few ’superstars’ in the Premier league. Just the same old, same old, going around and around and…

  57. tell u what guys, im not holding my breath but if that russian dude comes ill be over the moon..when was the last time we bought an established quality player..campbell? before him..prob overmars…who knows,
neway i can see why wenger wants him, he can play on either flank, & this prob means he wants to bring nasri in the middle, if anyone can fill that void for us its Nasri, he has the touch, pass & shot plus its where he’s made his name at Marseilles

any news on when eduardo making a first team bench soon?

  58. I suspect it is pointless speculating on who Arsene brings in. I would be surprised if it’s any of the oft touted suspects.

  59. ive lived in the middle east for a long time & let me tell u, they live & breathe football so dont belittle what you dont know, just like in many countries in africa, i could prob say same for many countries in impoverished parts of europe & the far east. its ironic because here they call it the home of football yet there are other national sports like cricket & rugby etc..heck there are schools that dont even do football…go to those countries ur belittling & u’ll find its football, football & football.

  60. You were friends with Man. City’s new owners, were you?

  61. @Poliziano:

“but I’m sure Hughes would have done better if the doctor of oil pumping had either stayed away or kept silence”

Actually, I think Huges has been granted huge power in selecting the players. Cannot imagine the doc of oil pumping know about Bridge, Parker, Bellamy, etc. And if it’s not for Huges’ decision, why would they pursue Santa Cruz not Tevez? (although Santa Cruz is zillion times better than Tevez in look department). With all the money they’ve got, if the manager were Ericson, they can assemble superstars and try to be galactico of eastland; however, Huges, does he have the guts to manage those superstars with huge egos? What I see and find ridiculous in citeh is Huges seems to be trying to emulate the relative success he had at B/Burn with a bit better english players than those at B/Burn. That may be his full capacity.

  62. Yes, I completely agree, ToughCookie. Hughes is selecting the players. The only power the PhD of Pump has is handing over cash.

  63. If it is Hughes picking the targets and offering a player like Scott Parker £100k a week this will be his undoing. Parker’s a reasonable player, if he’s worth £100k a week what happens when they try to negotiate a contract with a Messi or Kaka type player. What will they be paid?

  64. no, just lived in saudi for many years & have many ties in that area, dont get me wrong no doubt they see this ultimately as a business opportunity, if they truly bought the club they loved it would’ve been the one across town…i can bet you the owners own sons are hardcore united fans! all i wanted to highlight was they do love football though….& horses!lol

i think hughes is in a situation thats not 100% in his control & he’s struggling terribly, the top managers still cope, i was never a fan of his style neway so im not too bothered what happens to him.

  65. arsenal in talks with zenit over arshavin!!!

some serious haggling going on now then!

  66. in my perfect world blackburn (cos of allardyce) and mancity (cos of hughes) would be relegated.
    can’t stand either of them.

  67. Matty – Can you imagine Robinho turning out in the Championship!

  68. if it’s good enough for lee trundle it’s good enough for mr robinho …..

  69. God – If Scott Parkers worth £100k a week whats Lee Trundle worth?

  70. I remember that Marc, Fabregas told him the truth…and Hughes & the Media didn’t like it. The media were like: He did what he can with the thugs he had. Well, now he has relatively better players and he is crap.

TC, I didn’t look at it this way but you do make a good point :)

  71. with spurs the third team..then harry goes back to save pompy again! man that’d be funny…
duke=spot on about the haggling…it helps that we’re the only ones in the running & he really wants to leave, his cup-tied situation might’ve just put off europe’s finest who would view champs lge as important if not more than their respective league.
also zenit’s not so spectacular champs league campaign might’ve helped too…but if you look at their league fixture list that’ll explain a lot…

  72. I’ve just seen “Denilson In Talks With Bolton Wanderers” @ goal.com. FGS!?

  73. G4E – The problem with these people is that they don’t think. Who brought those players to Blackburn in the first place. If more managers tried to play football and if the ref’s supported these teams the thugs would soon be gone. Only problem is there would only be about a dozen english players in the top league.

  74. True that, this is why they have to protect the thugs to keep the Howard(s) happy.

  75. its not our denilson btw, its the former real betis one! having a trial at bolton! LOL, he’s only 31 though

  76. Oops,

I’ll go stand in the corner…

  77. “in my perfect world blackburn (cos of allardyce) and mancity (cos of hughes) would be relegated.
    can’t stand either of them.”

Mine too Matty, mine too. I never liked Hughes as a player and I like him even less as a manager and I never thought that would be possible. He is way out of his depth with this big budget he’s got if he’s paying the likes of Scott Parker £100,000 per week. What a joke!

Bengal Gooner, Zenit are obviously hoping to start a bidding war, by making the alleged negotiations public. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

“I’m not too happy with the changed FA 4th round tie – it’s now on Sunday 25/01 1:30PM. The next match is also away at Everton on Wednesday 28/01 8PM…

why don’t we play on Saturday!”

The F.A. are determined to scupper our chances – see how they arranged for the spuds to play their last F.A. cup tie on Friday so as not to interfere with their preparations for the CC semi-final.

Tough Cookie, The doomers really ought to be pointed in the direction of that article on Chelsea’s cut backs next time they start asking for a benefactor or complaining about Arsenal’s business model!

  78. Passenal

your right about zenit, bastads are playing games, but its nothing they havnt done before, i think they wont sell for less then £20m and we wont pay more then £15m which is maybe what he is worth at tops. typical russians, he is fukin 27ffs.

  79. ffs

  80. Yes?

  81. They bought a player called Danny – portuguese midfielder – to replace Arshavin, for £24 million. I guess that’s why they want more than £12 for Arshavin?

  82. £12 Million, I meant. Even Arsene wouldn’t be that cheeky!

  83. I’m amused by that F. Frederick Skitty.
And on almost everything, I agree with you, Passenal, but not on the Mark Hughes thing….As a player, I always liked him.

  84. Hughes was an excellent player but one of the very worst cheats.

The sort who loved to dish it out but cried like a baby, when he got it back.

I well remember 2 incidents, in particular. 1 in the CWCF against Barca, when he collapsed in a heap, after a pretend head butt had missed him by a metre. The second similar occasion involving Tony Adams at Highbury.

It was a shame because it belittled his actual talent.

He has adopted the same style as a manager. Who can forget the snide, off the ball tactics, adopted by Blackburn.

  85. Sorry ffs, was just trying the other ffs.

  86. crikey. Zenit paid 30m euros for Danny whatshisname in August.
that was 6 weeks before Russia imploded, Gazproms stock price disappeared down the plughole, and Putin put the kybosh on any more spending.
he could be the last luxury item ever bought by somoeone russian who plunders the countries natural resources.

Arshavin is ours, just a matter of time. Distressed seller.

  87. Burnley collapsed against the spuds. They have done well up till tonight.

  88. Nothing motivates Tottenham like the Carling Cup.

  89. Dick Avocado has confirmed that Arsenal have expressed an interest in Arshavin.

  90. I advocaat that Wenger should try to pear down the price.

  91. Flint, it was the cheating and diving aspect of Hughes as a player that made me despise him, plus the fact he played for Manure!

  92. And Chel$ki too, didn’t he?

  93. I don’t know why you guys are worried about Arshivin’s price. Good thing we didn’t pay 15 million for Xabi Alonso since he was only worth 13 mil!

Seriously, Assuming a deal goes through, I think he will be phenomenal. So far this year our offense has not been creating the chances they did in years past. More worrying, they aren’t even that nice to watch in many games. I seriously think Arshivin will bring back the movement, precise passing and speed of thought that seem to have gone missing this season (just around when both Hleb and Rosicky went missing). Denilson and Nasri in particular will both benefit from his play. So, I hope he comes and I don’t care if it is 15 or 20 mil.

  94. I agree with you passenal. The man Citeh model looks lyk it will soon implode on itself and if they are already offering gazillions for mediocre players like Scott Parker (£100k a week ) and price other teams out of the biding just to be consign players to the citeh scrap heap it becomes riiculous . It makes you wonder why Mark Hughes isnt trying to get Arshavin and Tevez at Man Citeh.

Becoz they are a crap team which is usually battling relegation and trying to punch above their weight without a stable base. We can be critical of Arsene Wenger all we like. But his moel is self sustaining for years and realistic.I think Sheik megabucks Mansoor will not be relishing a year in the championship but what a moral victory that would be for clubs that are not bank rolled by russian oligarchs and shieks.

Californa Gooner Arsene is stubborn as hell and buying a player like Arshavin would be going against the grain if he is valued at £20million.Anyway this guy was virtually p-rostituing himself to Barcelona at the beginning of the year. We dont want another Hleb crying to go to Barcelona after one good season and kissing the Barca bage do we!And at 27 will he want to be hanging around for long. Lets have another unknown lyk Bacary Sagna. That is what Arsen is good at an that seems more likely. I am happy to be proved wrong as Arshavin has definitely got the look of what Arsenal baly need. Lets hope he is also not injury prone like Rosicky.

  96. The reason Arsene is panacking is there is a good chance we will finish out of the top 4 if we dont strengthen now.The squad has shown in the first half of the season that they are not good enough.

    Buy Arshavin to replace Cesc
    Upson to replace Toure
    Given to replace Almunia

  97. PSB,

On what ground are you saying Arsene is panacking (sic)? Because he is trying to buy Arshavin?

  98. Because last season when we were top and we needed two quality players to win us the title we bought no one now we are 5th we are buying players.i think you can call that panicking. There is a fear we will finish outside the top 4
