The Champions League draw paired us with AS Roma. Whilst not wanting to denegrate the opposition, it could have been a lot worse. Roma are a decent side and should not be taken lightly. However, they are emminently beatable and represent a good opportunity for progression to the the quarter-finals.
Liverpool pitch up at The Emirates this afternoon, ready to inflict a potentially fatal blow to Arsenal’s title challenge. Well, in the media eyes that is. Whatever the result, the title will not be decided this weekend. It can become increasingly difficult for Arsenal to win it if they fail to beat Liverpool but it ain’t over until the Fat Lady sings. At the moment, she is merely loosening her vocal chords.
A tremendous record this season against the other teams in the ‘big four‘ has been undone by some distinctly poor results against lesser teams. Indeed the coming month will go a long to deciding what sort of season Arsenal will have. Trips to Aston Villa, Hull City and Everton all have to be won as well as this afternoon’s match and the home games against Portsmouth and Bolton. Maximum points in those games and the title challenge will be on, we’ll be looking at this ‘iffy‘ spell, wondering what all of the fuss was about. Mind you, it is all a pretty big ‘if‘ for us to win those games!
In recent days, there has been much talk of revenge for the Champions League exit at Anfield in March. Sorry chaps but this is nothing to do with this afternoon, nor should it have any bearing on the events which transpire. It is over, done with and part of history. We had the chance that March evening and blew it.
Samir Nasri is set to return for the game and that is good news, providing some much needed width to the side. In truth, Wenger’s options for change from last weekend are limited due to the injuries. It seems likely that Diaby will make way for Nasri, leaving Song to partner Cesc in the middle.
I suspect that the starting line-up will be:
Almunia; Sagna, Gallas, Djourou, Clichy; Denilson, Fabregas, Song, Nasri; van Persie, Adebayor
There is little doubt that the team will be able to raise themselves for the challenge that Liverpool present. In many respects, they are not much different to Chelsea in style but they will no doubt be more obdurate, especially since there is no real attacking onus upon them.
Like Arsenal, they have beaten United at home and Chelsea away. They should not be underestimated in that sense nor should Arsenal be lulled into any false sense of security due to the good home record that we have against them since the last home league defeat in the 1999-2000 season.
A win is vital. Wenger has been quite vocal in his demand for better support from ‘those close to the club‘ and there is no doubt that a vociferous crowd at The Emirates would lift the players, it is a two-way street. Their dynamism in performing lifts the crowd and more to the point, stretch the visitors to breaking point.
Enjoy the match wherever you are watching it.

No, it’s definitely “It’s not over ’til the fat lady sings’. Therefore it would help.
Anyways I do think that Liverpool have weak fullback so attacking the flanks will be key with Nasri and Clichy especially.

Their danger men: Gerrard, Alonso, Babel, Kuyt and Reina.
Our potential winners: Adebayor, van Persie, Nasri, Fabregas and Almunia.
By: Luke on December 21, 2008
at 6:01 am
I fancy us for the win. To take on Luke’s point about danger men…..They simply have fewer matchwinners in their team;
Gerrard, or Kuyt on his random on day. Maybe Keane who has a good record against us. From the bench they can bring on Babel who’s an accomplished diver.
We’ve got Adebayor. RVP, Nasri, Gallas (who comes up with goals against the big 4), Fabregas.
We’ve got players who you can expect to get a goal, and they’ve got players who will score when Liverpool are in control of a game.
Which Liverpool player, apart from Torres, could have manufactured 2 goals from thin air like RVP did against Chelsea?
That’s their weakness. A big 4 side without attacking thrust is not the strongest side. At the very least they lack the (in form) manpower right now.
And even with our off form defence, we still have the manpower to get a good game and win our one-on-one battles.
Hyppia will get skinned by Adebayor’s pace, and I don’t rate their full backs.
I fancy us for the win but I suppose now that I’ve said that, the custodians of fate will seek their revenge against me by making us lose.
But I don’t see us losing. F+ck you custodians of fate.
P.S. Expect controversy in this game.

Media witch-hunt hits fever pitch. Really disappointted with the tabloid stories, not shocked mind. If there is one nigh certainty this transfer window, it is that Wenger will not break a habit of a lifetime and spend 50 Million odd quid. He is not, who he is, as a man, probably the only top manager to have constantly considered the current climate the world has financially sunk to, to then lavishly risk all, in a game of high risk roulette! The media are playing up to rising element of disgruntled narrow minded Gooners, who will shamelessly use these amateurish stories to beat the boss with further when the extravagant claims are not met.
There may be transfer action, but Wenger will play by the same rules of engagement he always has. The positive Gooners know it, as do the moaners, as do the knobhead writers who get paid to peddle that shite!
Nasri the big game hunter, well big games only in fact, to rise to the fore today!

Almunia.
Sagna- Djourou- Gallas- Clichy.
Fabregas- Song.
Eboue- RVP- Nasri.
Adebayor. 4-2-3-1.
2-1 for Arsenal.

Dreamed last night that Arsenal won 2-0 – early screamer from CG and late right-foot volley from Peter Simpson. Must have been all that reminiscing yesterday. But a good omen, ‘cos Stan only used his right peg to stop himself falling over.
Also dreamed I was at a piano recital and a huge mechanical monster came and bit the head off the woman pianist. Everyone ran off screaming except me and my mate, who leaned over and whispered, “That’ll teach her to play Rachmaninov.”
Pick the bones out of that one.
Arsenal 7-0 – Jack Wilshire hat-trick.
In my dreams.

Pool have very weak fullbacks so Nasri playing wll be good but the only problem is AW playing Denilson on the RM.
Denilson and Eboue are both average but at RM Eboue will be better offering both pace and defence on the right. AW will still go for Denilson even though it won’t do any good for the team.

He’s not been helping the team playing.
Slow reaction
Lack of pace

Good performance from the team, Almunia, Sagna Song, Denilson and especially Nari. Credit to the team for not letting their heads drop after first losing Fab and then some scandalous refereeing. So called foreign ‘exceptional talent’ players have failed again.
Mr sideways, backpassing and slow supremo Denilson
Mr dribble any object in front you and lose the ball Diaby
They’re not fit to wear the Arsenal jersey
Song is the only player who seems to be improving
I fear for this club with the injury of Fabregas
We’ll struggle to get to the CL next year
Its all Wenger’s fault, bringing low quality players in the name of so called ‘exceptional talent’
Diaby was useless from the minute he joined play.
God save this club from Arsene Wenger

I’m scrolling past that idiot Howard’s posts.
We played well. Should have won, but made a stupid mistake for their goal. And then, anyway, we should have played the whole second half with an extra man, because Riera should have been sent off. After that, too many things went wrong, with Ade and Cesc. But even then, we pushed forward and had some half chances. Well done but I’m not happy with the result, which says a lot about how good this team can be: I was expecting us to win even with 10 men and arguably our two best players out.
Oh, and the fans finally had a nice performance too!

My previous comment is being moderated. Bah. This sites filters are the only downside, otherwise it’s fantastic (well, except for some of the commentators)
I was telling Howard that saying Arsenal are at fault for the referee’s bad performance because, as we don’t have english players, referees decide against us, is just like saying gay people are at fault for being discriminated. They should just stop being gay, and it would get solved, eh? Pathetic reasoning which shows what kind of person we are dealing with.

The midfield of Denilson and Song are no better than Noble and Scot Parker (of Hammers), in fact the two are no better than Huddlestone and Jenas (Spurs) either, like wise Barry/Sidwell at Villa.
So why import Song,Denilson, Diaby and Eboue when we have same average local players hanging around.
Well, Arsene Wenger was voted the best French manager last season. How come? He doesn’t manage a French team to warrant that?
The citation was that he’s been developing French players for the French national team.

In France the reasoning is:
If you want to gain access to the French national team; go to London and play for the Arsenal.
So we have so many French players dreaming to play for the Arsenal. Now we have: Gallas, Silvestre, Clichy, Sagna, Diaby, Nasri, Sunu, Coquelin, Bicshof (French disguised as Portuguese)
In fact only Clichy, Sagna, Nasri and Gallas are above average. Coquelin will come good but the rest are no good and yet they are here.
Over the years the French have revered Wenger including Prsident Sarkozy for his outstanding contribution to French sports.
He’s done nothing to help England even though its mainly English struggling fans who’ve been the backbone of the club. He’s used the opportunity offered him here to help his country France.

By: Poliziano on December 21, 2008

Ian, I’m addressing you.
Okay we need a combination of English and foreign players to make Arsenal great again as before.
We should go for Upson and sent Gallas or Silvestre back home. Upson and Djourou will be great.
AW should get Young to provide width and send Diaby packing.
Reo-Coker will be great playing as a DM with Cesc.
Green should replace Almunia as he better.
Arsenal needs better players not average foreign players.

By: Ian Dolent on December 21, 2008
at 8:08 pm
Ian, the truth is that you can’t play foreign first XI week-in-week-out and expect to win something in England.
It won’t happen in England; the refrees and officials will make sure of that.
Chelsea was the first to try it years ago during Gullit years at Stamford Bridge and it didn’t work. They learned their lessons but Arsene Wenger hasn’t learned.
AW keeps on bringing these average players in now and then. Years ago we had the Bergkamps, Anelkas, Edus, Pires, Vieras and they were great.
Now all the players coming in are not Arsenal quality. In fact they don’t even compare with their local lads here, hence teams like Villa doing better than us with local players.

Ian
Is not racism. If you want to bring foreign players then bring in quality like before as mentioned above during our titles and silverware years from 99/05.
Now all the foreign players we bring in are craps and can add nothing to our play. Name them, diaby, Denilson, Song, Almunia, Eboue are all average, nothing to crave about. Compare same with those years when we had Jens, Bergkamp, Anelka, Henry, Pires, Edu etc
Its the quality and we don’t have them. We’re now a near midtable team.

Very pleased with the support in the ground today…very pleased. Singing for most of the game…..booing every Liverpool player after Ade’s sending off……gave Howard Webb a real roasting too. Best of all was the cheer for Eboue when he came on.
Worst supporter of the day….the pr**k from Gloucester who telephoned FiveLive to say he thought that AW should leave…what a complete and utter a***hole.
Man of the Match……RvP…when we were down to ten men he ran his socks off…covered right back position for Bacary as well as getting forward….but the goal was sublime…absolutely superb control…third goal with his chocolate leg this season….all you people who say he is too left footed…shut the f*** up.
Runners up…..Alex Song and Denilson…again.

Howard thinks he’s an Arsenal fan but he isn’t.
The problem with football is that people feel bound to their clubs when actually we’d be better without them.
If you were a Jag or a Jensen owner and you loved them, but they kept on letting you down, wouldn’t some think about moving to a BMW or a Benz?
Unfortunately people like Howard, Ice Cream and Arsehole 2001 is that they won’t allow themselves to move on, when everybody knows they should.

Howard,
Edu ? A great Arsenal player ? Are you serious ?
He was a good player, but only after some time. His first touch was nervous and it took him some to be effective. Denilson will become a better Arsenal player in my view.
As for your comments about Wenger not bringing through ny more good players. Are you serious ?
So the following players don’t merit any mention :
- Nasri
- Van Persie
- Adebayor
- Sagna
- Fabregas
- Clichy
4 of the above were in the PFA team of the year.
Howard, the only rational argument that you peddle is that an all foreign XI may not win you trophies because you need a home grown bond. The problem with this argument is that everybody knows that it is the foreign players who have provided the cutting edge to win the domestic premiership. And these are – Drogba, Ronaldo, Henry, Bergkamp, Cantona. There are only 3 home grown players, possibly 4, who I believe may have been influential in winning the premiership in recent times – Roy Keane, John Terry, Tony Adams and Alan Shearer. To argue that a core set of english players has been the deciding factor – don’t make me laugh.

Howard. You have some serious bitterness man!Ur taking this way to seriously!
Dissapointed by the result but we didnt loose and it maybe a blessing in disguise for Cesc – the most overworked player at Arsenal to have a break. The teams performance was intially flat but after Ades questionable sending off I think we saw some real passion from both the players and fans. It was good to see Nasri , Song, Denislon, Diaby chasing every blade of grass and the Emirates cheering Eboues name.
What a fantastic pass from Nasri and equally the goal by RVP by the way. Awesome.
And Howard Chelsea never won anything with English players. They were nobodys until the likes Drogba, Essien, Carvalho, Ferrer, Cech, Gallas, Makelele, Gudjohnsen, Crespo transformed the team.

I want Liverpool in the Champions League after we have disposed of Roma. With a European referee, the playing field should be more level and Lucas (or Mascarano) would have been booked for the first foul he commits and and not after the first ten.

English players are shit?.
Meanwhile we’re being trashed by Villa, Hull, Stoke, Fulham, all dominated by English players.
Foreign players of Almunia, Song, Diaby, Eboue, Bendtner, Denilson are all shits and don’t even deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt.
Neither of the Top 4 teams will import such shits into the country under so called ‘exceptional talent’ visa.
Exceptional talents?
We won’t accept North London as a training ground for French national team players.
Arsene Wenger didn’t do that managing Gampus in Japan and also Monaco in France but he’s found England a suitable place to train French players.
He was awarded France best manager simply because of his support for the French national team without managing a team in France.
Get real. Emirates is a training ground for the French.
By: Howard on December 22, 2008

Howard,
If Hull, Stoke, Fulham, Villa beat us because they have English players…how come England can hardly put a team of internationals together?
You talking about English being awesome, and your national team manager is Italian…Of course after all the English managers failed. I wonder if Capello will be able to win anything with his awesome English squad.
Even if we get crazy and agree with you that Diaby, Denilson, Song, Eboue are mediocre, we got them for almost nothing. You want us to spend tons of money on Similar mediocre English players….Why would we be so stupid and waste our money?
If the English governing body is two faced to allow foreigners to play in England and then ask the referees to be biased against them….this would be shame on England not Wenger.
We have what will be the best of English players coming along (Maybe slowly) but they’re coming……The British are coming Howard, just take a chill pill and hold your horses.
By: Gunner4Ever on December 22, 2008

Continued,
No one denies that we need English players, you can actually see the crowds going crazy even when Walcott is in his worst form.
But if you look back, the English players we had from 1996 till they were all gone between 2002 & 2004 either retired with dignity like Dixon, Adams, Keown, or went looking for money like Cashley. Most of these players were already in the club, Campbell we got for nothing and he left for nothing.
English players prices went crazy since then and we never paid 20 million for a player, English or not. We never had that kind of money, especially after we built our new Stadium. Sacrifices had to be made, we couldn’t afford to waste 20 million on a mediocre English player when you can get a much better one for half the price from abroad. That’s just basic sense, and basic logic.
I wonder who’s going to bail out Man Ure when they can’t find any more money to borrow to buy players or to pay their wages? Probably a crazy rich sheik….is that the future you want for us Howard?
By: Gunner4Ever on December 22, 2008

Howard, Wenger is running a football club, not the English national team. The English players graduating from the academy who havent made it at Arsenal like Sidwell, Bentley, Upson, Muamba etc havent exactly uprooted trees after leaving Arsenal. They havent been able to establish themselves to be worthy of any top 4 team which explains why they never made it at Arsenal in the first place.

Spot on Alex.
Arsenal don’t “need” English players. In fact, no English club needs English players, they just need players who are good enough to compete.
What English players need though, is clubs like Arsenal who raise the standards. If an Englishman can’t break into the Arsenal team, and there is a shortage of English players good enough for the top level, then perhaps that says something about the quality of English footballers. Perhaps it explains why we can’t win an international tournament for crap either. We’re doing the right thing by nurturing English players from ground level to play the Arsenal way and up to our standard. This has a better long-term effect on the game and we are having a positive impact on English football by using this method, be proud of it.
So what about those that never made it like Sidwell, Bentley, Upson etc? As Alex points out, if they were good enough for a top club, then they’d be playing for one right now. Would it have been better for English football if Arsenal had kept them on the books to this day? No, because they wouldn’t have got the games they needed to develop. They were educated at Arsenal and expected to reach a certain standard, they were loaned out and given their chances to excel, but failed, life goes on.
By: Blackstock on December 22, 2008

What a brilliant performance. Made me so proud.
One mistake by a young defender – who will learn from it, and the usual awful officiating, saved Liverpool.
The only point that Howard could make, and doesn’t, is that English players, particularly Gerrard, terry and Lampard, play by a different set of rules than everybody else.
With official and media sanction, of course. Gerrard is an absolute disgrace.

Sorry for the language yesterday.
We had to concede just before half-time, didn’t we…
We were looking so comfortable at 1-0, but that equaliser and Cesc’s injury killed our momentum.
Then after the sending off we showed what we can do. Liverpool were outplayed.
I still don’t see how that Adebayor challenge was worth a second yellow. When you’re as tall as he is, limbs can be difficult to control, but it was a well executed tackle.
There was simply nothing dangerous about it. He was trying to shield the ball, and there was no force in the challenge because he was preparing to run in off the opposite direction.
Arse21,
People will start ignoring you on here if you keep slagging our players off.
By: Big Al on December 22, 2008

Is it only me… but is Song such a tidy player of late, really liking the look of him as our defensive mid. Strong in the tackle, didnt give Gerrard as easy game, and can make a pass. Cesc seems to be able to play a little next to him. A shame he got injured, another change in personnel to disrupt this bit of form we are starting to build.
Shame we didnt take 3 points, and its a shame the referee’s cant use common sense in high pressure games. You can clearly see Webb knew he was making the wrong decision, but he felt he had to make it. Absolutely shocking stuff, cant remember how many times a swore at him after that… we should be 5 points off top now
HOWARD… Wenger, has won a few league titles, a few fa.cups, made an invincible team unbeaten for a whole season, and brought a london club to pay the most amazing football seen throughout the world. We are admired all over for bringing through amazing talent, Wenger will continue to do that as he has a talent of his own which alot of us have never witnessed in other managers. If you’d simply prefer average English players to French or any other nationality.. then you are RACIST… and should be removed from making comments on this blogg and any other blogg because you cannot justify your comments and you still havent.

Nice to find a fellow goona who appreciates players for their actual performances and what they bring to the team. Alot of fans are very quick to jump at the throats of players becuase of their personal liking towards that player instead of taking a step back and ignoring all this crap.
Song brings strength, aerial presence, and security for Fab to do what he does on the ball. Denilson is a neat passer, but dont possess what Song does to be a Defensive midfielder yet he can get about the pitch. Why they have received so much criticism is beyond me, they have proved worthy to wear the shirt. Their effort and quality was to the highest degree even though Denilson is a bit uncomfortable on the right.

Blackstock,
Bentley, Sidwell and upson are just as good as Song, Diaby and Denilson. Why aren’t they loaned out? There failing as we speak. Especially Song who’s complete and utter wank
Arse 21,
Bentley, Sidwell and Upson are all much older, experienced players. Song, Diaby and Denilson are better now than Bentley, Sidwell and Upson were at their age.
And we simply can’t afford to let them out on loan at the moment. However I think that Denilson and Diaby definitely would benefit from a good 6-12 month loan spell, if it was possible.

Its how a supprter is meant to support. You should try it sometime.. or is it difficult looking at the postives or your team?

Loaning them out wont help them improve, yes they would be getting 1st team football… but anywhere they go will be drop in standards. As long as they are getting at at Arsenal there is no need to loan them out unless we find better to replace them. Song looks like a long term fixture in the first team if he keeps this up though, Djourou also looks good.

Agreed,
Oh and RvP – he is going to be scary for the rest of the season if he can stay fit. He’s looking very confident on his right foot suddenly. Defenders aren’t going to have any idea what he’s going to do. With that technique, a healthy RvP will be one of the top-scorers come May.

Yesss.. Being left footed he was naturally my favorite player since Bergkamp retired, his agression in his game makes him what he is.. the willingness not to give up, track back, dive in etc… gets him into trouble at times, but his quality is rather exceptional and we are lucky to have a player of his calibre. Gutted on fabregas’s injury, he was really coming on to getting back to his top form too.
Just seems as if we get 1 back, and lose 2 every time, very frustrating when we all know with our best 11 we will piss on this league.

I aggree with Big AL. A healthy RVP is exactly what we need at the moment.
Are we going to appeal for the RED CARD to ADE or let it slip like every other times. We have a genuine case, and the match ban can be revoked. I would really like Wenger to start questioning such decisions. We’ve had enough of Howard Webb and others like him. That was one of the most biased games I’ve seen of late. Yellow card for protecting your ball? RIDICULOUS.

The fact that we played better without Ade just sums up his performances this season. At least we had him sent off and not anyone else.
I thought we showed great spirit when we went down to 10 men and were definitely the better side even though we didn’t really look like winning. The reaction to this and Cesc going off was excellent so well done boys.
The midfield grafted hard – especially Song and Denilson but lacked creativity.
It was a poor game overall though and Liverpool did their usual “let’s not lose” routine.
It was a terrible goal to give away though. Djourou and Gallas only had 1 player to mark and couldn’t even do that. Yet another soft goal and how many times have we said that this season.
The sending off was a joke and refereeing has reached a new low with this this decision. Why were Arbeloa and Lucas not booked for diving. Is is a yellow everytime a player puts his foot over the ball even if there is no danger whatsoever.
Does this mean if you do 2 step over then it is 2 yellows and a sending off? Pathetic. Webb is a complete c***.
Will we ever have a fair ref v Lpool? Ever?

Agree with you there, Wenger should really consider appealing, i know its only 1 game but we shouldnt let these awful decisons slip all the time. Tell them that they arent doing their job right, yes its a tough job, but there are many faults with how the referees apply the rules in the Premiership.

Liked your analysis of the game for once, but disagree with ur comments on Ade.
The players did step it up when he went off, but you stick Bendtner in there for Ade, then you will see the difference. Ade brings alooooot to the team… keep your personal likings aside

chris GOONA – totally agree. AW hasn’t brought it up much, but our injury list is just ridiculous. Off the top of my head i can’t think of all the players out for the Villa game.. just hope Eddy can come in.

Just seen Robin’s goal again. Awesome, amazing, ballistic.
He is the only player on the pitch who could have scored that goal and one of a very few in the world that could have scored that goal.
If only he can find some consistency though.. and stay fit.

True but the way I see it is that Denilson is already kind of on loan this season, just in the Arsenal first team rather than at another club! I don’t think it was Wenger’s first intention to give Denilson so much games this season, because if he had got his way in the summer and signed the additonal midfielder he was after, then Denilson wouldn’t be where he is at the moment. So the question is, can Denilson last a whole season in the Arsenal first team at the moment? I’m not so sure, with all credit to the boy he’s barely got this far as it is. If Wenger does manage to sign that illustrious midfielder in January or next summer, then most likely Denilson’s status in the picking order will just go back to where it was before. For the sake of consistency, i’d prefer to see him loaned straight out to a side where he can continue playing week in week out, but where the expectations are not so ridiculously high as they are here.

Think Eddy is long way off still… he aint even going to make it for the FA Cup game i saw on Arsenal.com.. he may be fit, but needs his match fitness, match sharpness, and some confidence in real games before even being considered for selection. Remember the guy could have lost his leg and needs to overcome some mental barriers before being chucked back into the top level football just yet.

chris,
I was an Ade fan. I thought that he deserved a rise last season and that he would be a great player this season. How wrong was I. Its not personal but just watching him this season , his workrate, concentration and effectiveness are way down on last season. I agree that this could be due in part to playing in front of an inferior midfield but his attitude does not seem right to me this season.

What, 8 goals in 13 league games isn’t consistent for a support striker? Come on! RvP’s been great this season. He has to stay fit though.

Al,
When he’s good, he’s great but he has not been consistently good. Maybe it will come if he can stay fit for the whole season.
4 of those goals were in 2 games and 4 in the remaining 11 is not great. I don’t just measure players by stats though and Robin rarely plays well more than 2 games in a row.
By: Alex Ice Cream on December 22, 2008

Frankly, that’s crazy logic. Anyhow, 4 in 11 is still good for a deep lying striker.

Maybe you are right, he may not be able to keep it going for the whole season. His mis-placed passes we see time and time again are not down to his quality.. it is his 1st real season, at such a young age in a difficult position in a top team is alot to ask. I think he will grow from this experience though, you can never doubt his workrate though, i give him that. I dont feel aggetated having him in the team though, he has some good attributes and covers alot of ground every game. Good player overall, and good squad player at the moment who is simply playing because we have so many injuries.
We will be a different team once we get Walcott back on the right wing.. Wenger has to buy a winger to replace Rosicky as we are relying to much on Nasri who can barely keep injury free for a couple games. Seeing Wilshire on the bench, its quite frustrating because it must be tempting to bring him on… being 1 man down would be a hell of a risk though.

Al,
Why crazy? Just look at the games. He doesn’t often play well more than 2 games in a row.
Talent-wise he’s great but needs to add consistency. I think its your logic that is flawed if you think that RvP has been consistently good this season.

Nothing short of great, given what he has had to deal and with and some average general team performances taken into account. I don’t think anyone could have expected much more from him this season. And he definitely seems to be getting better…
So, great. In my view.

Goals and Motm awards which were deserved. In other games he has been poor but I am not going to go on about it all day. I am just glad Robin is fit and scoring goals.

Why has no one mentioned the awful defending by Djourou for Keane”s goal.If that had been Gallas they would have wanted him Hung, drawn and quartered.
By: Peter Storeys Budgie on December 22, 2008

OK, fair enough.
Just quickly. The way I see it, strikers – more than any other players – are judged on statistics, namely goals.
So I think it’s negative-thinking to raise any objections to an Arsenal player with RvP’s return.

By: Arse21 on December 22, 2008

Djourou was at fault for the goal. He was caught out, just as simple as that. The ball probably surprised everyone on the pitch though, i aint going to have a go at him for one lapse of concentration when he has provided so much aerial presence at the back for the whole of the other 92 mins of the game. Hes a good commanding CB.
Gallas gets slated for other reasons, same as Senderos did, same as Song did… yes its unfair but 1 mistake doesnt warrant it.

I said yesterday that the goal was simply good play by Keane. He was right on the shoulder. No defender can cope if a striker with Keane’s pace gets his position right and reacts as quickly as he did. There’s a question mark about Almunia’s role, but at least he made a decision and stayed on his line instead of getting caught nowhere.
It just happened that the aimless hoof fell very kindly for the striker.
OK, have to do some work.

The truth is both teams yesterday are not good enough. The strength in depth for both sides is poor.Take a look at both benchs.Take Gerrard and Torres away and Liverpool are average. Its a two horse race again the Mancs v the Chavs. With us and Villa fighting for the last CL place. The length of time Cesc is out will have a huge bearing on if we can finish 4th and who we sign in january
