Arsene, Vela And Gone For A Song

Wenger believes that the managers suffer more after defeats:

It is much harder [for managers]. You look at the tape again but it is always very difficult after the game. Those first 48 hours are very difficult for every manager.

Judging by some reactions of supporters, he must be suicidal right at this moment in time. Presumably Mrs Wenger has the number to hand, of her local Samaritans. Either that or has a few bottles of red lined up for his homecoming, locking away the cat to save it from one hell of a kicking.

Arsene has always hated international week, stopping him from building on a victory or in this case, snapping the players out of the lethargy that was evident in the performance against Villa:

It is frustrating we can’t pick them up because of the international week. At some stage, we would have liked to focus on something different then come back and re-focus again.

That’s before he has even begun to count the cost in tiredness and injuries which will deprive him of the services of players for upcoming matches. Already missing from the squad for Saturday’s trip to Manchester City is Carlos Vela who will apparently return on Friday from playing in Mexico’s World Cup Qualifier against Honduras. I suppose there is little point in Arsene trying to bully Sven the way that Mourinho and Ferguson did when he had the England job and demanding that Vela only plays in the opening half, jumping into a speeding car and on the first plane back to Heathrow. Not that you would expect the Mexican to be anything other than a sub on Saturday, just that it gives Arsene options.

It is hard to know where he would have started with the squad. According to him:

It’s been unbelievable. We won on Saturday and Tuesday and were on a high. But you felt there was no energy left in the side. I don’t have a rational explanation because we tried to make sure that everybody was on top of their game. It didn’t work.

What is unbelievable is that you get the impression that the same players participated in all three games. They did not, an entirely different XI took the field on Tuesday from that which played in the two Saturday games. For tiredness to creep in after a week without a game suggests one of two problems. Either the training was too strenuous during the week, something that seems incompatible with the commonly held belief that everything is scientifically worked out and meticulously timed or more plausibly, the attitude of the players was wrong, believing that they simply had to turn up to claim the victory.

Anyway, enough of Villa and the navel gazing as three points are gone and nothing is going to change that.

Back to Vela. He was the subject of speculation at the weekend with Hull touted as a destination once the Carling Cup run is over. Burnley may see to that with a tough tie at Turf Moor to be expected. An Arsenal player going to Hull on loan might seem somewhat at odds with Arsene’s footballing philosophy but it would serve two purposes. Firstly, it should give Vela more Premier League exposure than he might otherwise get but also, training with some ‘honest’ pros, being involved in performances that are based on discipline and hard work would stand him in good stead. Alex Song meanwhile believes that he has a great future in the game. If reports at the weekend are to be believed, that might well be in Spain with Real Betis looking to secure his services on loan for the remainder of this season, making the move permanent in the summer.

’til Tomorrow.

Responses

  1. Vela to Hull………………..he should get his education by going straight into our first team starting at Chelsea a week on Saturday!

The boy is ready, play him……….

  2. There is obviously I psychological barrier in this team..which AW, the management team and the squad are wrestling with…..difficult stuff…but I reckon that international week may just work better for us this time…I am a firm believer in stepping back from time to time and looking at situations with a different perspective….maybe the international games will serve that purpose.

  3. Frank,

Unfortunately a long, unforgiving season does not allow for such introspection. The time to do this is the summer but as we all know insufficient reinforcements were brought in and we are now in a fight with Villa for 4th place.

  4. YW good comments

We are stuck in a mental rut and even a win against the MANURES could not motivate the lads. What they need now intead of all the hulla balloo of how good they are, is a kick in the backside and a good telling off that if they can not turn up regularly and wearing the red and white with pride and dignity , some one else will take their place. No one should be spared and time on the bench will be good for a lot of them.

The tackles lack bite, the passing lack concentration and the desire to win 50 50 situations were completely missing. In every game you must want to win at this level and it was completely missing.

Put some of reserves on to start in the next game against Mancity. They will play as if their lifes depend on it. That is what we need to stay top four.

    Up The Arse!!!

  5. Frank – I hope your right but i still think that Wenger and the players have more than a touch of arrogance about them!

To me its like they turn up thinking we can play our pretty football whilst our rivals will sit back in awe, gladly capitulate and leave the Emerites full of admiration of how they have been beaten by far the greatest team the world has ever seen!!!

How dare our competitors actually want to play, get stuck in and put in a few tackles…….

I personally think their is some serious problems on the playing front within our great club…

  6. It seems there is a lack of urgency when we are not playing a top team or are not motivated by the press such as the away games against Bolton and Blackburn, where it was suggested that the players were not tough enough.

In games where they are expected to do well, there is no urgency to be first to the ball, to put pressure on the opposition. It’s like when we get the ball back we will pass and eventually score. This attitude is so hard for the fans to accept, there is no excuse for not giving 100% effort. If you try and fail, that is accepted, it is the insipid performance and lack of energy and percieved effort, that is so hard to accept. This is especially so after a week’s break.

Personally I would prefer to watch less gifted players play with energy and desire than watch a skillful team throw away opportunities due to a lack of effort. Wnger says that his players are intelligent, I’m sorry how long does it take for the penny to drop – you have to match the opposition for effort and then use your superior talent to beat them!

The fans pay a lot of hard earned cash to watch these games, especially those who travel aswell and it is not acceptable for these very well payed players to not give 100% in every game. I don’t mean win every game, just look as though they are trying to win. I think a weeks wages to charity would make me feel a bit better.

  7. What a load of crap Vela and Song are a vital part of our tiny squad.

ALEX MY OLD MATE Great to see you here , well we were right, too small a sqad, Not singning Alonso, all the BS we dont need new signings what a joke, and now back to the same old Wengerspin, plus all his ptoteges, Gallas, Bentdner, and CO. putting their foot in it every time they open their mouths

  8. Sol,

I don’t take any pleasure from being right about this. I hate to see Arsenal play like Villa or Stoke and get beaten.

The reason I was so vociferous in the summer was that I feared that this would happen. It was like watching a film when you know its all going to go horribly wrong but can do nothing but sit and watch it happen.

Still time to save the CL. Whether we will remains to be seen.

  9. The fans on Saturday might as well have been at the theatre, ps7….and I mean from the start. Almost no support whatsoever…the fans and the team deserved each other on Saturday….don’t give me this s*** about hard earned cash….5-10,000 season ticket holders did not turn up…they had already paid. The club level people don’t watch the game they stay in the bar and watch it on TV. It does not cost less to leave early and I mean 10 minutes before the 90 i.e 14 f***ing minutes from the end…it does not cost less to arrive late…three o clock ko…how can you arrive late….btw all of the above comments are directed at Red Inaction as well as the rest….all I could hear for the whole game was a few brave souls trying to compete with the Veeellaa supporters….don’t give me this s*** about away support either….we should put a big sign up outside the stadium…..

    ‘WELCOME TO HEAVEN’…..

…if some people don’t f***ing shape up I am going to start forcibly applying some Turkish Arse Whistles…then it will be

‘WELCOME TO HELL’….in more ways than one….

    Come on…WAKE UP

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal…..Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaa all….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal…..Arsenal….Arsenaaaa all

  10. Frank,

I hate the lack of atmosphere so much that it puts me off going to games – along with the cost that is.

The atmosphere in the pub is much better. Where else can you hear renditions of “Perry Groves World” and “Arsenal’s Number 9?”

    No-one leaves early either.

  11. Solgooner, AIC…you are like a pair of old t***ers sitting at the back of the pub….or over the garden fence…I told them…I feared it might be so…they won’t listen…see whats happened now…well just as I said…too thin we are…that Arsene…knows nothing really…all rather expensive…not like in my day…they will never learn…never listen to sense….how the f*** old are you pair…ffs.

  12. Well I guess the players get a real buzz from your support then, AIC

  13. FRANK . How do you cheer when a team is playing such rubbish, the crowd cant win games when a team is playing so badly.

We know your hero Denislon has a great game according to you, average according to most of us but better than Bentner, Gallas, Almunia Clichy or Cesc, but you cant go on making excuses stepping back is fine but we have had problems with teams playing 8 people in defense since last season an stepping back has not caused Wenger to see anyhthing wrong.

Denilson is not in the same league as Xavi Alonso, and hes good in attack but bad in defense. Flamini id both.

YOGI ARE YOU HONESTLY SAYING FLAMINI IS GETTING 160K A WEEK IN ITALY WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN SMOKING?

  14. Remember pires!!!

Too old apparantly, well his stats this season are

    played 9. goals 1, assists 7

    oh and in the cl

    played 3. goals 1, assists 2

    still got it hasnt he!!

  15. Attitude is absolutely everything in sport as well as in life.

One of our big problems is the attitude of some players. I have problems with RVP – for getting sent off regularily and not consistently applying himself when everyone expected him to take over from the TH14 mantle. Getting sent off for childish things. Bendtner doesn’t work hard enough for me and doesn’t have to technique to compensate for his lack of pace. Walcott has been good going forward and no disciplined going back.

At the back I think Gallas has lacked focus at times but has played well recently. I blame Almunia for Ablongahors goal. Toure is not on form. Silvestre a poor alternative. Clichy defensively naive at time for all his brillance going forward. This naivete would not occur if Gallas adequately marshalled the back line.

We lack steel in central mid-field. As good as fab is – he doesn’t have the same presence as Flam or even Viera had.

We have never looked comfortable in defending set pieces, retaining a lead under pressure, closing out a game against poor opposition, marshalling the 6 yard box, holding a defensive back line or converting the multitude of chances than come our way. Were not even threathening in set pieces.
Until we learn to at least be able to defend consistently this team will win nothing.

  16. Are you actually an Arsenal supporter at all, Solgooner…no insult intended but do you honestly think that supporters should turn up to a game (maybe) and decide towards the end when they have seen which way the wind is blowing whether to sing or not….God all..f***ing…Mighty…

  17. FRANK,,WE ARE OLD ENOUGH TO HAVE SUPPORTED THE CLUB FOR 50 YEARS AND FOLLOWED THEM ALL OVER THE WORLD. WHATS YOUR CLAIM TO FAME?

TYHE PLAYERS DONT WORRY ABOUT OUR CHEERS OR SUPPORT THEY WORRY IF THEY CAN INCREASE FROM 50K A WEEK TO 80K.

  18. Oh dear oh dear oh dear

  19. IN MOST OTHER STADIUMS THE TEAM WOULD HAVE BEEN BOOED OFF THE PITCH LOOK AT NCASTLE WHO HAVE THE GREATEST SUPORTERS BUT WHEN THE TEAM ARE SHITE THEY LET THEM KNOW IT

  20. Bring back the squirrel. Didn’t it make an appearance against Juventus a couple of years back ?

    Fast, could dribble, evasive.

  21. ‘We?’…..50 Years, Solgooner?….impressive…how many of you are there 50…

  22. I supported AFC when they didnt win silver but there was no spin then, they admitted they were crap and then improved.

  23. The squirrel could probably talk more sense than some of the ‘fans’.

  24. FRANK YOU ARE SO FUUNY ¡YOU SHOULD WORK BUSKING IN THE STREETS.

  25. Song thinks he’s playing well????

    :O

    (faints)

  26. When did you stop supporting the club though, Solgooner…becuase you sure as hell don’t now, do you?….haven’t got a good or sensible word to say about the club or its players…have you? you miserable b***ard….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal…..Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaa alll….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arseanl…ARSENAL

  27. @ dukeGoonem

I say bring back Sir Robert Pires!

  28. You think busking is funny do you, Solgooner?

  29. MUPPET Good to see you back in humorous vein.

  30. Frank why do you bother with solgooner, you know he never has anything good to say.

  31. Frank, are you like the Frank in Educating Rita ?

  32. F*** the F***ing, squirrel…

  33. For the better part of the last 2 years, Arsenal have only been known to play well when Fabregas is playing well. When he is not, we look average at best. This has got to stop. How many times did Denilson (Yes, he played with passion) win the ball and pass to Fabregas, only for him to pass it to Sidwell or Barry?

We lost the game in the midfield where we could not string 2 passes together be cause Fabregas had an all time low for his consistently poor performances this seasyeah
    on. Captain? I think not.

Usually it’s easier to blame Denilson because he is not our fair haired boy, Gallas (ex-Chelsea), Silvestre (ex-Manure), Bendtner, Song or Eboue. god forbid that we mantion the name of Walcott.
Flamini is no longer here and according to Wenger, our pattern has changed and the defensive role is interchanged between the two CMs as the game progresses. If Fabregas steps up, our game will improve. However, until then, we need to bring in Ramsey and sit our golden haired boy down.

Bendtner has never and will never be able to play well as a lone striker. I think he’ll do well playing behind the main striker or alongside him. He has neither the speed and guile of Eduardo and Vela, nor the strength of Adebayor. By the way, has anyone noticed that in addition to speed, Vela is very physical? Check out the way he kept holding off the big Wigan players (Okay, that was Titus Bramble, but the guy was like twice Vela’s size). Ther’s a lone strike for you, Speed and Strength

  34. Balance, Steve…just balance…for every miserable word the miseries post…I will post a supportive word for the club….I have a bit of time before my next assignment starts…so bring it on you miserable b***ards

  35. FRANK DONT TALK RUBBISH ALEX AND MANY OTHERS CAN SEE THE WOOD FROM THE TREES DO YOU THINK THIS TEAM WILL WIN THE EPL.OR ECL?, THE CARLING MABYE UNLESS WE DRAW MANU IN THE SEMIS.

SO YOU THINK THE SQUAD IS GOOD ENOUGH AND DENISLON IS REGULAR FIRST TEAM MATERIAL , TOPARTNER CESC OR TO DRIVE HIM INTO LEAVING

  36. A word to Joe….RvP has been sent off regularly (I paraphrase)?….care to elaborate with some facts to support that statement?…or did you just think it felt right?

  37. CESC is the key hes the engine that drives this team and as hes been off form it shows our need for another cleverr midfielder.

  38. STEVE HAS U BEEN FOLLOWING MY POSTINGS FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS ARE THEY ALL NEGATIVE?

  39. Frank,

Sol can say what he likes and so can I. Sol and I have supported Arsenal for many, many years yet you see fit to pass judgment on what constitutes a supporter.

I don’t consider you less of a supporter due to your blind optimism which is sadly misplaced as far as the Prem is concerned this season.

I don’t care what you think of me or Sol. All I know is that many of the issues which are being looked at now for why we are out of the Title race by mid-November were discussed on this very blog during the summer months.

Yes that’s discussed Frank, something else you know little about.

Do you think it would have been preferable to identify and solve these problems prior to the start of the season or pretend that we would win the Treble with the current squad and do nothing about it?

This team is in danger of becoming the worst under Wenger in terms of league finish and yet you criticise Sol and I because we have been proved right and you horribly wrong.

  40. Yes I believe the squad is good enough to win the Premiership and the European Champions League, Solgooner…I don’t know if it will be strengthened I will leave that to the management team…yes I think Denilson is good enough…no I don’t think that Cesc has a problem with Denilson…..I see a weakness in the centre of defence..I would like to see more pace there…Gallas is hiding and has been directly or indirectly found wanting in some games…however again I trust AW’s judgement…forgive me but I do not trust your judgement.

  41. AIC, your problem is that you are a selective reader…..most of us are but you have an acute form of it…..I am intrigued by this ‘we’ when you mention, Solgooner? Care to elaborate…I presume for my comments to qualify as ‘discussion’ I need to agree with you pair do I?

  42. 9jagooner…I agree with some of your comment…I actually think that Vela and RvP up front with Theo would be very interesting to watch…the technical skills and vision combined with the technical skills and pace.

    Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal,Arsenal, Arsenaaa alll….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal…ARSENAL

  43. 1. Our wage bill is £100m (same as manure)- who are we spending it on?
    2. Supposedly an £80,000 week contract is being lined up for Van Persie – why?he’s not won anything -would any of the top clubs buy him if he was available – never hear any rumours about him being wanted by anyone
    3. We need touch defensive central midfielder and defender.
    4. Arsene must have tonof money available after all the years of scrimping

  44. You know the fifferecne between you Solgooner and you mate AIC…you ‘we’….and me….You pair used to be Arsenal supporters …………………………..I still am…..

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaa alll….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal…..Arsenal…ARSENAL

  45. £30m….Bengal…..£30m…that is how much we would get for RvP…except we won’t get it becuase he will stay at the club for life….the most committed and talented player in the current first team.

  46. Frank,

We all agree about the weaknesses in defence.

Why is our attack the worst since 1995 though?

  47. Frank,

What do you mean by selective reader?

You can fuk off if you think that sol and I are not supporters. I wish you would anyway but hey keep telling yourself that everything is perfect and watch us slide down the table.

  48. The speed of the counter attacks of the CC game against Wigan was remniscent of the Old Arsenal we fell in love with. In order to have that, you cannot afford to have sluggish strikers who are not technically gifted

  49. Remember September 2nd. To use the language of the site, it was a fugging graveyard on here. Everyone was disappointed that we hadn’t signed anyone. And I’m sure what we all have our fears about this team.

There are those who choose to dwell on them and repeat what everyone else already knows. Maybe because it makes them feel smart. I think it does damage. And besides, it is boring to read. Wenger doesn’t scour the blogs. Why should he, when he can give Guus Hiddink, Eric Gerets or Roger Lemerre (or not) a quick phone-call if he has a problem.

Then there are fans who hope for the best and identify our strong points, praise the guys who are improving, debunk myths about the team, any find reasons to be positive (a difficult task this week). I’m not a regular at the grove, but I’d like to think the traditional Arsenal way should apply to fans as well.

Call it blind optimism if you want, but at least it is honourable. It’s about having some class, being mature enough to trust the people with proven records to achieve success. And having the humility to accept that they know better than you.

This is my attitude for the rest of the season. We’ll see if it changes after that.

Oh and good old ACLF, a website that actually makes me feel young!

  50. I don’t think that it is…I can’t imagine why you would want to research such a negative subject….If I did the research I would want to first of all define ‘attack’…probably break that down into component parts..I would then set up my criteria for evaluation…I would then rate those criteria each year against the other teams in the league etc…e.g. a straight goals comparison would not allow for changes in ball technology, defenders fitness, law changes etc …I would then draw up a table and look at the results…I would then interpret the results…using some objective measurement….aligned with a sanity check such as intuition….take a long, long time to do…..rather just sing….

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaa all…Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal….ARSENAL

  51. Who are the sluggish strikers who are not tehnically gifted, 9jagooner?

  52. Frank,

I like singing but unfortunately it does not win matches on its own.

Its not all doom and gloom but we have to realistic. I am not going to go into weaknesses again but we have to try and finish in te top4 and have a go at the CL or even the FA Cup.

The season is not over by any means and if problems can be solved then there is still time.

I wish that the problems are addressed though and this has not happened – yet. Let’s hope this changes and quickly. Eddy and Tom back may also give us the spark that we are missing. They hopefully should be able to play in the CL so it by no means over.

  53. Good post Yogi!

I dont think we should be too worried about vela not being available. Let him grow in his own time, this season is not his time that we should expect him to influence premiership matches.

I cannot believe the pressure we are putting on our youngsters. Vela hasnt played a full season in England and we are talking of him as if he was a seasoned pro?

Are we clutching at straws or what? The kid is 19 for goodness sake!!

I personally feel letting song go out on loan would be DISASTROUS. He is the ONLY player we have who can, to an extent, fill the DM. He may not be world class but he is a natural for that role.

If anyone, then it should be denilson who should be sent out on loan and diaby can act as back up for cesc. No way is denilson a DM.

I think it would be a good idea to send our academy defenders Kyle bartley and nordveit to places like hull or the championship. They seem to have the potential to become strong, tall centre forwards and playing in those places will TOUGHEN them up for future seasons with us. We need that desperately.

Just my call… Ramsey deserves a start against Manchester city.

    Cheers all!!

  54. I don’t think that you are supporters…no I don’t, AIC…I think you think you are but…maybe you are fans…slightly different to supporter…but you certainly do not support the current team or manager…and as you say you can’t be arsed to turn up to the games…rather go down the pub…so from the clubs perspective what is the point of you…you just stand by a lob in critical grenades…you are probably not as incurable as Solgooner but since you have elected to be a unit I shall henceforth refer to you as the Ice Cream Twins for brevity…

  55. Who said that singing wins matches on its own, Ice Cream Twin? You don’t turn up and sing anyway so how would you know?

  56. wats this tiredness all about. dont hear any other team complaining. they had 7 days before the villa game. heard wenger complaining about tiredness 10 matches into the season. this team is becoming the joke of the premiership

  57. Solgooner and Alex Ice Cream,
Your constant apologies for being right conceal that you are completely wrong. You both predicted that Denilson would fail in the first team. A lot of people now say he has been our best player this season – certainly among the best few. At first, you just boldly denied the facts. Then you started to admit that he was doing okay, but, rather ludicrously, you blamed him for the mediocre performances of Fabregas. Suppose Denilson had been a disaster. What would you have said if people had exonerated Denilson, and blamed Fabregas? Since Denilson’s quality can no longer be denied, you have had to resort to making shriller and shriller claims for the brilliance of Flamini and Alonso, who you have transformed, in your imagination, to the best players in the world.

  58. Frank & Sol Gooner

Dont make things personal, i know we are all concerned with the form of the team, but lets just deal with it in a constructive way.

You both have good arguments, i like Denilson and think he is contributing a hell of alot more than Cesc. Cesc suspended for Man City so its time for him to sit down and think about his own performances and contribution to the team, beacuse he has been very disappointing for me. There is no drive in his play, and Wenger can defend him all he wants, but we all will admit he has been poor, so will he.

I think Diaby or Ramsey should start next to Denilson for City Away. Van Persie most likely to be played up front with Ade as Vela only comes back on friday apparently. Almunia is still a more reliable keeper than Fabianski, Gallas is still our captain, Clichy is still amazing… my point is a good team dont turn bad over night.

They just have to realise this, but i truely believe a break for Cesc will be good for him. Diaby prefers the central attacking midfield role anyway, and he has been very influencial when playing there this season.

  59. Poliziano

Denilson is our best player… i think alot of ppl will admit to that

  60. Come on, guys. After Stoke, when RVP and Ade were off, we expected a disaster against ManU because of the shortage of our attacking options. The disaster did not happen in this game thanks to our commitment and some long deserved good luck. However, the disaster did happen against Villa who played a game of their lives! I agree with goodplaya, the result was due to pure arrogance, first of all on the side of our manager who watched the previous Villa game and anticipated an easy win.

I still do not give up on this team.

  61. Frank, Have no fear, I wasn’t talking about a particular person. However, I think Bendtner is sluggish, and I think Ade has plenty wrong with his technique. However, I believe RVP has the potential to be complete, so do Vela and Eduardo

  62. Frank,

You are quite simply a cnt and a most arrogant one at that as you make unfounded judgments on people using your obvious lack of intelligence.

I never said that I could not be arsed to go to games. I don’t go as often due to high prices and shit atmosphere. I have been to hundreds of games over the last 30 years so I do not need your pathetic posts an an endorsement of my support.

I don’t comment on whether others are supporters or not as I lack your arrogance.

Its also untrue that I do not support the manager. He has made mistakes which have been highlighted that’s it. Why does a supporter have to be blindingly optimistic? Why can’t a supporter be right and AW wrong?

You could argue that this type of optimism prevents anything changing as there are no problems to address.

I don’t think that the season is over, just our league hopes.

  63. harryo

I have to agree… Wenger cannot complain about tiredness, I can understand him trying to deflect criticism off his players, its all said for the media my guess is

  64. Poliziano,

I think that Denilson has played well and better than Cesc. If the midifeld is going to be Cesc, Theo and Nasri, Dernilson is not the player we need though. He is too similar to Cesc.

  65. the weekness is in midfield. teams have sussed cesc out . they put a man tight on him and he has not got the strengh or pace to get away from this. he has not got the pace to track opposing midfielders gettin beyond him. for cesc to be effective he needs time and space. opposig tems know this thas why u see so many of his passes going astray lately. for fabregas to be effective a whole team needs to be built around him like a quarter back this leagues too quick and physical for him

  66. Easy on the language!

  67. Awwww… this is cute,

I cant believe this is John terry. The man does have a cuddly side to him after all. John, your kindness is much appreciated in our troubled times.

    How SWEET of him!!

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/chelsea/3476535/Chelseas-John-Terry-warns-Arsenal-are-still-a-threat-for-Premier-League-title-Football.html

  68. To be fair to Alex Ice Cream, if he and Solgooner are twins, they’re not identical twins. They’re more like the twins in the film of the same name, with Solgooner the one made from the genetic crap, although I’m not sure how AIC resembles Arnie.

  69. THis argument about tiredness is a joke. You would have thought that the young average age in the sqaud that this would be the least of our worries,

  70. Are you now speaking for you and Solgooner, AIC…or just you…..

…and I apologise for any language which offemds your sensitivities Big Al…I was brought up in the gutter ….

  71. ..to offemb..is to appeal to your feminine side of course, Big Al…I could have written offend….entirely different meaning…

  72. Whenever Djourue has played at center back, we have not lost or even conceded a single goal…why doesn’t Wenger see this and play him alongside Gallas .

Also, fab needs a break, let Nasri play CM alongside diaby or denilson and let vela play the left side of the wings. the rest of the team remains same and see how we would go on 10 straight wins.

  73. AIC…

It baffles me as well.. these players have high amounts of energy, and were use to scoring late goals after tiring out the opposition with our passing game. Where has all our approach play gone, our intelligence in the game, and general strategy… Its like we dont know what team will turn up, Wenger has to discipline the players, they have been given to much freedom on the pitch and are not doing their basic duties properly anymore.

I want to see free flowing football.. but its costing us dearly at the moment. Walcott needs to cover Sagna/Eboue, same as Nasri needs to cover Clichy, and Cesc needs to cover Denilson. Team dont function based around 11 individuals, its how the individuals work with each other within a system. Even against Man Utd we were not helping each other that much.

  74. I think “We lacked sharpness” or “we looked tired” is Wenger’s way of slagging off the team in public. I’m quite sure it’s not what he says to them in private. All teams *look* tired when they play badly, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they *are* tired.

  75. Almunia
    Toure Djourou Gallas Clichy
    Walcott Diaby Denilson Nasri
    Ade RvP

This should be our team for the next game unless of course we get a host of players injured on internation duty. I think Diaby is ahead of Ramsey still despite his progress… but come second half of the season i expect Ramsey to claim his place, and Wilshire to be our major impact player like Theo once was.

  76. That’s OK Frank. I was brought up in Woolwich – London’s gutter, but I’m looking at the stars.

  77. chris,

I agree. We also have most of the possession in games so why are we so tired?

  78. its only a matter of time before rambo take cescs place maybe thats wats effecting his gamehe knows its only a matter of time before the real deal ramsey takes this midfiel by the throat and shows them how its done

  79. Aaaah Woolwich…we used to dream of being brought up in Woolwich…..promised a holiday there once as child….but the mill owner would not let us out.

  80. Franks on Fire lol one man army to think i thought Stallone was the only guy who did it… Cheers mate

  81. I think here lies our problem. look how many different lineups we can all come up with. a few years ago there was only one lineup, we dont know the strongest team and i think neither does wenger!!

    maybe

    fabianski/almunia
    sagna, toure, djourou, clichy
    eboue/walcott/vela, fabregas, ?, nasri
    van ade

I have a problem with the second midfielder.
denilson n diaby to similar to fab and song aint good enough. also rm & gk

midfield is the problem area! only two certs for me!

  82. this tiredness crop annoys the hell out of me . they play once a week , sometimes twice.try a real job

  83. To be honest with you, whether or not one agrees with the fundamental arguments that we are going to finish 4th, get through to the quarter finals of the CL and semis of the Carling Cup, and not win the FA cup, then so what ?

All this means is that Wenger would have failed to overachieve with the money at disposal. All this means is that we would have finished exactly where the money said we would finish, 4th. Is this such a surprise ? Chelsea, Manchester United and now Liverpool have all invested tens of millions of pounds in the pre season, a cumulative investment on top of what has gone before. I believe that a season that yielded any better results that 4th, like last season, would be a bonus.

So where does that leave us ? It leaves us back to the arguments of the summer. Back to the arguments of the board. Back to the arguments about the spending power and relative investment of the team.

The arguments between ‘loyal’ and ‘disenchanted’ supporters to me is clear. One group believes that there should be no clear water between us, Chelsea and Manchester United, and we have the resources at our disposal. The other, looks at the economic situation, Wenger’s past record and believes that a) we have to live within our means, b) that Wenger has a strategic vision for the club that requires patience. I am in the latter group.

We can point out all the holes all we like. But you are not going to convince me that we are as bad as that. Sure, I do not believe that at the start of the season we would be in the position we are in now. We have been undone 4 times by teams who have played a game of ‘anti-football’ against us. 10 men at the back, doubling up when marking our offensive players, body checking, fouling, and putting everything into this one game against us, followed or preceded by a miserable defeat or draw to a bottom or a mid table team.

Strangely enough, we were competitive last year until March. This year we have been written off, laughably by those who are tipping Liverpool for the PL. My prediction is that Liverpool will falter, and Arsenal will catch them up. But we will have problems catching up Chelsea.

  84. Its not the fact were losing, its how were losing.

Were clueless. Were good at passing up and down the halfway line.

I’m worried, hopefully wenger proves me wrong. I’ve never been anywhere near this worried. We aint got Henry to bail us out this time

  85. Arse21,

You are right: Fulham and especially Stoke and Villa were some of the worst performances ever under Wenger. In fact given the “strength” of the opposition and the fact that we created nothing I would sat Stoke was the worst ever under AW.

  86. Alex IC, Arse21,

You are not very specific in your criticism.

We failed to deal with a specific type of opposition. One that sticks bodies behind the ball, presses the play, fouls and uses long ball tactics.

Instead of playing championship manager why don’t you come up with some constructive ideas about to how we go forward, instead of name calling.

You have a right to criticise. Fine. Sigh. But there is a difference between slagging and criticism and you tread a fine line.

  87. Good post Muppet. I don’t see manchester united in the title race this year. They’re going to go to the world cup( don’t know the name exatcly) in january, and suffer tiredness as Milan did last year. And I see liverpool not being strong enough to continue their surprising run. As for Chelsea, they’re on fire right now. Conceded 4 goals? And hammering anyone that comes their way. But they’ve been undone thrice this season already. Livpool, Burnley and Roma. If they come and play an open game, they will be hammered. And Scolari’s doesn’t seem like the guy who would give up his attacking football.

As for arsenal, I am optimistic, that we will get back our confidence. A bad run don’t last that long, if you have quality players. And as I see it, we have the most talented players, a bit short on experience but that can be overcome by team spirit and their technical abilities. We need desire and the fighting spirit. Need to pick ourselves up. Eduardo can start playing by the mid of december. And Rosicky’s return would come at no better time(fingers crossed). As for january, maybe we would have to make amends for not buying in the summers. Maybe. But buying in january is always a risky and useless buy. For a team that plays like us, we need to train the players no matter how good they are, to our style. Players would need more time to settle in our team than they would take in Chelsea or Liverpool, due to their style of play.

So I would prefer if Wenger focuses on our current squad, and try to lift them up. Stop screwing around with formations. We’re good at attack, so we need to use our strengths. And work up on his substitutions a bit.

  88. Wenger needs to play the whole CC team for one match, even if we lost, as long as we played with passion it’d put the wind right up our ’stars’. Maybe bring them out of cloud money and back to planet earth

  89. Ateeb,

Agreed. I think that as well as the return of Eduardo and Rosicky though, we need more steel, or failing that, caution.

I’m going to dodge all the arguments about Denilson, Song, Ramsey and the centre backs. I simply think that tactically we need to alter our style to prevent leaking stupid goals on the opposition counter attack. But that’s probably my naive view. If that doesn’t work, then we do need two monsters in the defence and midfield to add to the team.

  90. Good post Muppet, It wasnt ad goos as your one yesterday though, I think you might need oiling you big robot.

    Ateeb,

You dont see Man U in the title race?

  91. Muppet;

Totally agree with you on Chelsea as champions…Liverpool will falter…Manu look complacent after two good season..so chelsea i predict..

I also agree that people expect finishing 4th from us or worse ..so at the end of the season we acheieve it..issue is when we flatter to deceive …we beat Milan to be beaten by liverpool..we beat manu to be beaten by villa..we lead the table last year to be beaten by boro and birmingam..

other issue is our players want to leave us when they are established..which leaves sour taste in our mouth..once they get some name they move to barca..madrid..where u can win much easily..but where they can belittle u…but they need to see whether they will get that respect..look at henry..he wud win with barca..but will he be part of their happiness..i doubt..

    Yogi;

Agree with you about how manager feel…players can always move out..they are not judge that much once they are good..but managers..winning is most important for them..to keep position and to gain respect..

once wenger was competing with ferguson..now fergusson is unreachable..and he is fighting to keep up the respect he has long held..we love him..but neytrals respect for him is also very important…and people can respect u only so much if u dont win…so lets hope we win for him..

  92. Muppet;

We need towering personalities in defence and midfield..but who are these? am afraid we need to sort out our defensive philosophy more than personnel…

we had great defence when we have CL run..that was make shift defence..sol and cashley only came in final..

we have gallas..defender of repute..we have toure..proven..we have silvestre..take exp for back up..we have djourou..the talented one..we have song..manager rates him..

so quality isnt issue..its the way we play..or are organized..from where and whom wud be buy good defenders..am sure we wud have them if they exist..we are great in that aint we..

  93. We need to train players to play in ouy system?

    What, like Diarra, Sagna, Rosicky?

If you buy quality players you usually find they don’t have much problem at all playing our game.

  94. adc,

I hate to agree with you, as I am reluctant to make any statement on the direction and philosophy of the team. I played football to Sunday league level as a goalkeeper for a couple of years, but ended up playing tennis and rugby instead. I have never coached any sport so I don’t feel qualified to comment.

However, a common sense view is that if you don’t have lightening pace at the back, then you are running the risk when attacking, like we do. Perhaps we are also exposed for height on set plays.

The 1st problem can perhaps be solved by a change of philosophy. I’m not sure how the 2nd can be.

  95. Muppet,

So you was crap at football were you?

  96. Muppet:
I aggree that we need to make changes to our style of play a bit, to stop leaking in the stupid goals. To nullify counter attacks, we need toure’s pace. But that leaves us vulnerable to high balls. And like you and many other bloggers I’ve never coached. But it seems that tactical changes have to be made. For people like us, the most obvious solution that comes to mind is to buy new players. But I think, that if we alter our style of play a bit, we can solve our issues. And today I am not getting into the Denilson issue. So I am clearly out of ideas. Maybe a defensive coach could be a solution to our problems.

But the way I see the steel argument, it’s that we only had Flamini that could be considered as steel. But Flamini wasn’t playing all over the park. So it seems naive to me that only one player of steel can bring so much stability to our team. Hence I would go with your caution argument. But then again I could be wrong.

Moreover like every other team we hold our principles too highly. How about knocking out opponents while their process of counter attacks is under way. Villa was doing that to us, any chance of counter attack was nullified by their fouls. So why not try the same thing with our opponents.

Arse21, I really don’t think Manu would be in the title race by the end of the season. Age has caught up to Scholes, Giggs, and Van der sar. They haven’t been their best self anymore. The younger ones haven’t lived up to expectations. That includes Nani and Anderson. As for the fantastic four, SAF hasn’t figured out how to make that system work so far. And Owen Hargreaves out for the season is a big loss. His contributions at the end of the last season were monumental. The combination of Vidic and Rio, hasn’t been as it was a year back. They’ve started letting goals in easily. Even smaller teams, are creating chances against them. Sure these issues could be resolved, but I haven’t seen any signs of that happening yet.

  97. Arse21,

LOL. Actually, I was not good enough to make my 1st team at school, but I was quite a good sunday league goalkeeper, and I was told I could have played Saturday league standard.

I never wanted to play in goal though. :-( . It was more fun outfield.

  98. Ateeb,

Man U always win the league when everyone writes them off, Ronaldos started playing now so there starting every game 1-0 up. Like we used to when we had a worldclass player

  99. Ateeb, I just dont think it is that deep or Wenger would not be puzzled. I mean as far as players, he obviously thinks these players are good enough and if anyone’s judgment should be trusted its his (not solgooner). Yes he has made a few errors, team selection and late subs in my view. Listen homey, until these players come ready to play week in, week out, they will continue to play below their potential. The thing we need most is a leader with attitude. I saw no one saying anything when we were playing like garbage Saturday, we just kept over passing the ball at a slow rate as if Villa were just about to let us score. NO aggresion, no desire, no energy! this is just unnacceptable and Arsene really needs to sit players down until they make up their minds to play hard every week, quite simple to me.

I cant believe I’m saying this but it seems that we need to learn some of the cheap fouling techniques of other teams, lets pull some jerseys, trip from behind in order to stop a scoring opportunity, is it not what is done to us weekly? sad but true. We need to run throug players from behind to get the ball, I dont kow but it seems to work a lot with no foul being called. I realy would hate to see this but what do you do?

    Have a blessed day!

  100. Paul N,

Be careful who you call Homey in the UK.

    They might get excited.

  101. Arse21, I didn’t write them off last season, because I knew they would build on their previous season. This season, too many issues that need to be sorted out untill a serious title chase could begin. Middle of the park with carick, fletcher and anderson? Scholes a veteran, but age is catching up. Moreover how Rio and Vidic perform this season is crucial. Last year it was all about ronaldo and their attack, but I personally think their defense was admirable. They couldn’t have achieved that without Vidic and Rio.

Paul, I aggree it’s sad and I hate teams that employ those tactics of cheap fouls. But when the other team is not willing to play a fair game, why should we? The other big 3 continue to do so especially when it comes to defending counter attacks. And offcourse the fundamental problem that the team faces is the attitude and the lack of desire. I know where you’re coming from, and I don’t disaggree with people who claim that Flamini was crucial because he lifted everyone up. But it’s just hard to swallow that rest of the players don’t know what they have to do or need a messiah on the pitch to tell them that they have to show desire and the fighting spirit.

Muppet, it’s just not the U.K, I think with the exception of the U.S one should really be careful of using that word.

  102. Sorry Ateeb, if I was offensive with the word homey. Does it mean something different in England? or everywhere else?

Ateeb, I agree that we shoudlnt need someone to pump us us but we do (sad) and worse if the fans do not get behind the team until we score a goal. Its true the players should do better but their can be nothing wrong with us lifting them if they need it, I think.

  103. Paul, I meant that the emphasis on a charismatic leader on the pitch is exagerrated. However fan support is a necessity, there are no two ways about it. Especially considering the age of our players, fan support is vital, and can only boost confidence.

  104. I’ve never heard that “homey” has an offensive meaning. I looked it up in a dictionary, and none of the meanings listed is offensive. The problem, to speak plainly, is that it sounds a bit like “homo” – i.e. homosexual. If you’re speaking to an idiot who likes to take offense, don’t use the word.

  105. Paul no offense was taken, because its not an offensive word. It’s how people perceive it.

  106. Poliziano you’ve explained better.

And how is our january transfers coming along?
I am excited, Ramsey is going to get his debut in an international game.

  107. No one has argued with the defense of Clichy, Maldini, Hyypia, and Sagna. Some strikers might have better acceleration than Maldini, but he can compensate with his positional sense. He’ll also be able to organise the other defenders. Hyypia’s long legs enable him to run faster than any striker, and will make him brilliant in the air.

There have been suggestions that Fabregas is a one trick pony whose trick has been sussed. I have therefore decided to drop him from the team. We’ll have Kompany and Barry in the centre, with Kranjcar and Alonso on the wings.

Up front, we’ll have Agbonlahor and Benzema, although Agbonlahor could be replaced by Huntelaar.

We’re still awaiting suggestions for a goalkeeper, although the players we have lined up for the midfield might make a goalkeeper unnecessary. If the defense is half decent, there won’t be any shots on goal anyway

I want this list to be finished by the end of the month, so Wenger has plenty of time to make the necessary arrangements. It could take him a while to offload our current set of time-servers.

  108. It’s pretty sad that the best news of this week is arguably that Drogba won’t face us.

  109. Muppet is a goalkeeper, Poliziano

  110. …lost his pace and catlike reactions…but he is brave and he fills more of the goal mouth than he used to….great positional sense I believe too…worth a try…might suit our budget.

  111. Muuupppettt…theres only one Muppet…one Muuuppett…theres only one Muuuuppppet…..yep…tricky but you can get it to work

  112. Doesn’t matter…nobody will f***in sing anyway…sorry Big Al

  113. I’ve finally made it !!!! Someone chanting my name !

  114. Benzema will cost €100, so we might have a tight budget. How much will our entire team apart from Clichy and Sagna bring in?

  115. Muuuppppeeett…..theres only one Muppet…one Muuupppeeettt…theres only one Mupppeeettt….

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaa aall….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal…Arsenal…ARSENAL

Thats what we will all be singing when you save a penalty in the ECL Final, Muppet…I’m getting your name on the back of my shirt at the weekend…gonna sell Muppet memorabilia on my stall along with the whistles, flutes, french horns (curled and uncurled), captains armbands, headbands and garters….Muppet shirts, Muppet gloves….

  116. Poliziano, I endorse Frank’s suggestion of making Muppet the goalkeeper. However the centre of midfield has too much steal for my liking, and less creativity. Maybe we can keep Kompany as a substitute, and bring in some other creative midfielder.

  117. Well there’s the 100 quid for Muppet…which we will more than recoup in kit sales

  118. muppet

u have good sense of humor

  119. We’re not selling Muppet. We’re buying him. Who does he play for at the moment? If he doesn’t play for someone, how can we buy him? He has to cost at least £10M, or the fans will have a field day.

  120. I see the SPINNERS of Gloom are back posting again……things must be not going so well with Arsenal…right?

It’s payback time for Hopeful, Rose-tinted glass wearers….You got your work cut out for you Mr. Frank

They’re the real Arsenal fans, any one else who can’t see doom…is not really an Arsenal fan. So Frank…I’m not so sure what are you so happy about, who gave you the right to wake up in the morning and feel optimistic about Arsenal? Did you clear that up with the Senior Chief Fan “Solgooner”? He has the 50 year fan armband.

Stop cheering and start booing….this is how we will fix our problems.

  121. Don’t worry about the finances, although we should calculate. But I think, the best way to go about it is to sell the 30 youngsters we have playing our reserves for 3m-5m a piece. The first squad can be sold for quite some money, because all over Europe they’re overrated/overpriced. Don’t know what they see in our squad though. If me manage to sell a couple to the MLS, we can really make some money. Eboue and Song to the MLS.

  122. Are you an angel, Doomin ‘n’ Gloomin?…you have a kind of charisma…the air is crackling

  123. Maybe we could swap Fabregas for Arteta?

  124. OK look…just this once…you can buy Muppet from me for £30M…does that work for you…I will even knock off the VAT for cash…but don’t spread it about…you know..got a stall to run…don’ t want the inspectors down on me….

  125. Muppet play for the club himself. Himself ain’t going to sell him that easy, he’s their most precious asset. We would have to give them fabregas, since we don’t require his services anymore.

  126. I was once a lost, delusional, happy Arsenal fan like you Frank.

Solgooner and his righteous friends showed me the right way, now I’ve seen the light and know that the only way out is doom.

One day, you lost hopeful souls will see the light.

    Boooooooooooooooooooo

  127. So, we have:

    Muppet
    Sagna Hyypia Maldini Clichy
    Alonso Arteta Barry Kranjcar
    Benzema Agbonlahor/Huntelaar

    Sub: Kompany

Certainly a big improvement on the current team.

  128. Wow Muppet you have really made it ..now more than one person chanting ur name..only if we cud say that abt bendtner

  129. Ha Ha Ha….

If you get Muppet put on the back of your shirt Frank… please post a photo… my wife would love it… if you are selling one, tell me where I can buy it.

  130. I think Wenger will be delighted that we’ve done his scouting for him.

  131. There is definitely a career there for you, Poliziano

  132. Doomin ‘n’ Gloomin…you should join Red Inaction they are looking for recruits…Rocket at the weekends…so busy boooing they forget to come into the stadium sometimes….you sure you are not an angel?…I can definitely see an aura.

  133. OK, Muppet….

  134. You guys crack me up! Can I join in?

Poliziano, you need some more substitutes for the bench, so don’t forget Kaka, Veloso, Messi and Buffon (he will be more than happy to sit on the bench behind the great Muppet!)

  135. Do we not have strength in depth?

  136. Is it safe?

  137. Passenal is right, Poliziano….Muppet needs to know that there is competion for his place….

  138. Passenal might be right. Poliziano, we have just one player on the bench. How about not selling our first team squad, and making them play in the reserves? And buy some other really big players?

  139. Why would we get in Frank, we know everything before hand….does it really matter? We’re bound to lose a game anyways….We are there for the booing, we’re there because our opinions are much more important than Arsenal, our righteous egos are held close to our dooming hearts…..what’s the point of watching?

I’m not an angel…it’s an insult to our creed. We are doom mongers, we are gloom supporters….we are no Arsenal Angels

    Booooooowooohoooooohooo

  140. Yep…you can come out now, ID

  141. You wanna buy a whistle, D ‘n’ G?

  142. Can I come out too?

Any one throwing stones at us for having optimistic views?

  143. I thought Arse21 bought all the whistles for his 21 Arses?

  144. Yes but I have some second hand ones I got from the Fenerbarchey supporters…but you are right I would rather they went to Ice Cream Gang members and Budgie Boys for obvious reasons…

Anyone want to help with the ‘Welcome to Heaven’ banner next week

  145. Don’t be silly, Doom’n'Gloomin. Nobody has 21 arses. He has two arses: one on the lower half of his face, and another one in the usual place, 21 inches in diameter.

  146. funny!

  147. It’s funny a whole 3 days without reading or talking about football and everything is exactly the same as it was!

I don’t think this football climate is ever going to change and unfortunately I don’t think we are the best suited to it. What with our viable business plan and young, technically gifted players who actually love football.

  148. Out you come, G4E..don’t worry about them….Muppet’s going to be our new keeper…and D ‘n’ G is a poacher turned gamekeeper he has been under cover…still think he’s an angel…but…well..

  149. Hahahaha………

  150. You got me Frank

Maybe I’m not good at trying to be someone else…………

oh well, the heck with you dooooom mongers………I’m happy with my Arsenal, I’m happy with Wenger, and I like Muppets….

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenaaa all…Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal….Arsenal….ARSENAL

  151. Hmmmm, I wonder where can I play…I’m sure I can fit in Wenger’s team.

  152. D n G’s don’t go in for whistles, that might sound too much like supporting the team, Frank!

  153. Weeeelll you don’t fancy becoming a qualified referee do you, G4E?….there is a fast-track scheme ….got Riley in the back of my van…kidnapped him…so happens I have some quite realistic Riley masks on my stall…see where I am going on this? ….what do you reckon….could be a medal in it….

  154. You are right there, Passenal…but I knew he was undercover…that was his aura you see…air was crackling with optimism when he came in….obvious if you have been trained to spot these things…

  155. Thanks for the heads up Passenal, I don’t want to appear like a wuss who supports his team….I don’t want to distroy my tough, know it all, doom monger image.

    Grrrrrrrrr, booooooooo

  156. G4E, Sure you can play. We’ll provide you with a Dvd of last season, and you’ll have to do exactly what Flamini did. It’s quite simple really. I am studying my subject, Pires. It takes time to get used to it, but after a week you surely start to adapt their vision. In 10 days, I got really good at the ball. Learnt all the tricks and flicks. Shooting needs another 2 days, having problems cutting inside and taking a shot at goal.

However I cant join the squad for another 3 months, because there are certain things that takes time to replicate. And I don’t have long hair, but it’s getting there.

  157. …now that is dedication, Ateeb

  158. What a star you are, Ateeb,,,doing all that for the team……so happens I have some Pires wigs on the stall…want one?

  159. Flamini it is Ateeb, just need to draw this ugly mole on my face huh?

  160. Naaaah… I got some rubber moles, G4E

  161. “The AKB’s have been super silent”.

    LOL.

Are we having Blog wars? I haven’t been told. Were any of you informed about this?

  162. Ewww rubber mole, sounds like somthing Arse21 can use on his *****

  163. D n G, anyone who can support this team in the face of overwhelming evidence of how rubbish they are needs their heads read! A realistic fan would know better. Arsene knows nothing and every player who plays for every other team is better than any Arsenal player currently playing for the first team!

  164. Frank, no, I won’t cheat. How much are they for anyways?

G4E, and a tatoo of ” $” on your ass. Don’t ask me how I know that. I just do.

  165. I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO, I TOLD YOU SO.

I was an an AKB, but I am now not anymore.

MY LOYALTY IS TO THE TROPHIES

Not the players, not Arsenal, not Pat Rice, not Wenger. But TO THE CUPS.

    I WILL PAY MONEY

    ARSENE IS NOT BUYING TROPHIES

    HE SHOULD GO

LET’S GET THE BOARD AND THE MANAGER WHO KNOW HOW TO BUY THE TROPHIES

  166. There you go Passenal….seeing the light at last, I’ve been watching you…I knew you wuold come around….:)

  167. You tell them Muppet – Wenger and the board are sitting on a gold mine and refusing to spend. I hear they light their cigars with £50 notes!

  168. Muppet, interesting observation. Im just curious, did people turn into AKBs after the Manchester united game? Well it’s only logical that they should. I mean we won right? Didn’t we?
So if people turn into doom mongers after a bad result, the reverse should also happen.

Poliziano, Abrahimovich’s yacht has left Russia. It will reach in a few weeks, we really need to finalize the list, so we can go shopping.

  169. Ateeb,

    Impeccable logic.

Tell you what, there should be a new TLA (three letter acronym, as is known in the corporate world), GKS – Grovers Know Shit. So what happens when Arsenal win, and they blow the opposition away – Manchester United, Fenerbache etc.. we can all laugh at the GKS crowd.

Might catch on. Don’t think Yogi will approve though. He wants to keep the peace.

  170. Yogi doesn’t care. He has left his dirty work to be done by people like us.

I like your idea, and I really don’t see why it shouldn’t catch on. I mean anyone who has been there can clearly see, that they really really really don’t know shit. Fantasy managers. They’re like watching a tennis ball being hit around from one side of the court to another. For God’s sake, atleast stick to some opinion. What pisses me off most is that after every victory, they celebrate more than we ever would have. Suddenly Eboue…ok apart from Eboue, lets take Bendtner can be an awesome player, with Dennis bergkham skills in him. In a week, he’s to be sold to a championship side.

    GKS!!!!!!!!

  171. If you thought things couldn’t get any worse. Think again. Walcott dislocated his shoulder, while training for England. Wenger’s going to be really pissed about this one.

  172. damn it, is it the same shoulder he injured against stoke ateeb?

  173. Does anyone know Wenger’s address? We really need to hand over the list in person, so we can explain our decisions. The players we have identified must be unknown to him. If he knew about them, he’d have bought them already. Wenger’s not stupid! I’m surprised he hasn’t heard of Maldini; but he doesn’t seem to have much interest in Italian players. Of course he definitely knows about Alonso, because he was desparate to buy him in the summer. His parsimony got the better of him then, but not this time.

  174. Poliziano,

I don’t know his address, but I hope he reads this blog so he knows what we are all saying. He better, because this is the best source of opinion on the Net and there’s enough brain power here to wire the national grid.

As one of the chief moderators on this blog, I know that Wenger will be seeking my counsel soon.

  175. Paul, I have no clue which shoulder it is. It has been fixed, and he’s going to return to England to recover. Does anyone have an idea how long it might take a person witha dislocated shoulder to recover completely?

Poliziano, I think Wenger knows these players but he plays dumb. Or maybe he enjoys making Arse21 frustrated so much that he overlooks these players, so that he can watch him moan.
Or maybe it’s because he’s thrifty.

But you could be right too, he could have an eye for youngsters, but not for proper experienced warriors.

  176. That’s a shame about Theo’s shoulder. When it kept happening before it really inhibited his performances. And people wonder why Arsene was so PO’d by Stoke’s bully-boy tactics!

  177. Ateeb I just looked this up.

How long will the effects last?
The healing process may take 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the extent of your injury. With proper healing, you should regain full movement of your shoulder.

  178. Crap. That spoiled my mood. It’s a shame, I wonder who roughed him up though.

Polizinano, get your list out, look for right wingers in the out of contract players. You know the free transfer ones. Hurry, there is no time to lose. We must find a right winger, before it’s too late. It is too late, but you now before its toooooo late.

  179. I’m thinking its the same shoulder from the stoke incident and it wasnt fully recovered.

  180. no acording to sky sports, its the other shoulder. oh boy!!!

  181. When your luck is out, it’s really out. Maybe if we had a few more positive thinkers amongst our supporters we could start attracting some good fortune rather than all this misfortune we keep getting.

  182. That’s why we need Alonso. You don’t see him whining about dislocated shoulders. He just gets on with the game. His attitude would be, “If I want to have a dislocated shoulder, I’ll have it on my own time, not on the club’s time.” That’s the difference between MEN and BOYS.

  183. I can be a right winger…..my right foot is weak, and my left foot is diminished….I think I can fit right in….

  184. Poliziano, And Alonso was man enough to tell Rafa to **** off because he didn’t wanted to travel to this CL game, as her wife was suppose to deliver a baby ( if i remember correctly). We need that kind of MEN to stand up to Wenger, when he goes off the line.

D n G, can you back heel like Eboue?

  185. No back heels, Eboue is talented man….but I can back into someone instead?

  186. his wife**.

  187. One more typo and you’re banned Ateeb….watch what you write…..

On behalf of the “Grovers for Free Press” brigade.

  188. G4E, I tate too much peanut butter with a spoon. And thats making me feel a bit weird. Sorry for the typo.

Oh so you’re from GFP? Nice to meet you. What are your views on the GKS? How do you think they are going to take Walcott’s injury? Wenger’s fault I presume.

  189. All joking aside, maybe we’ll be lucky and Eboue will be back for Saturday. I think we have missed his direct running and he’s more defensively minded than Theo so he offers more cover for the right-back

  190. Disappointed to have missed selection in our new squad as assembled by Poliziano, always wanted to play a season alongside Muppet.

Feel that I offer more than Arteta – I have a throw in that can hit the penalty spot.. and am 6′5″ to help defend set pieces. Got an excellent two-foot tackle too that could prove useful….

  191. Passenal, no jokes aside today. Bad news on the battlefront. Sagna is injured as well. Maybe Toure could play RB, and Eboue if fit could play RM. And if not, well, I don’t know. Ramsey, Vela, or Diaby? We also have to fill in someone for Cesc. It’s going to be interesting who Wenger plays.

  192. Cescfabulous, you related to that player who plays for stoke city?

  193. It is definitely Wenger’s fault, he should’ve sent a Walcott look alike in place of the real Walcott.

Or better yet, he should’ve cheated like Fergie sh*tface and said he was already injured…..stupid Wenger doesn’t know how to lie.

  194. Offcourse.

  195. Ateeb, my last name is Delap… but no relation.

Disappointed for Walcott… Wenger will be cut. Looking forward to Saturday – and to see how his selections change. Might be good for Cesc to have a break. Overall, just hoping to watch us turn up and play football.

  196. Passenal, has Walcott been the problem defensively?

  197. No Paul N, I wasn’t suggesting that at all, but Walcott is not defensively minded and sometimes it leaves Sagna more exposed than he needs to be – he has not looked as solid as he did last season with Eboue in front of him. Although Walcott is definitely trying to contribute defensively as it was his attempted tackle that led to Villa’s penalty on Saturday, it would be fair to say, it’s not his strength.

  198. Paul N ; is it really possible to criticise an English player on an Arsenal blog site?

  199. Walcott typifies our season so far. At times exhilarating, at times frustrating. And not available sometimes due to injuries. Sigh.

  200. Scott Parker is the arsehole who injured Walcott.

  201. … injured and out for 10 weeks.

  202. I’m behind this team 100%…..come on u gunners !!!!! One Capi Willie…There’s only one capi willie…one capi wiiillieee….there’s only one capi willeeeeee !!!!!!!!

Sounds good for a durex ad dont’ya think ?

  203. January transfer targets :

Delap, Laursen, That watsisname bolton prick who plays left forward …. very good with headers.

Title sorted if we get them three.

  204. On this post in Goodplaya, the one thing worth pondering is the call to “enjoy the beautiful moments”. Better that than to whine and whine from Dec 2008 to May 2009.

“So sad as it is to say, this season we just have to see it through and enjoy the beautiful moments.”

    http://www.arsepod.co.uk/2008/2008/11/19/a-goodplaya-reader-says/

  205. Vela is a great young talent. Personally I would of picked him over Song. But I can see that Wenger is trying to bring Vela on slowly and make him a better player in the long term, then again he does need to gain experience so I think wenger needs to play him in bigger games on the odd occasion.
