Emmanuel Adebayor has rescinded his international retirement and will play, if selected, for Togo in their World Cup qualifier against Swaziland. From a purely selfish point of view, it is a chance for another player to suffer an injury whilst not on Arsenal duty.
Adebayor commented:
This is a very important game for the future of football in my country and that’s why I have put aside my concerns.
History shows Adebayor’s chequered international career but in view of his high profile, it is hardly surprising that he is the focal point of any dissension with the Togolese squad. In those circumstances, it is hard to criticise him for making a stand against injustices suffered by colleagues as a result of the corrupt actions of the Football Association.
Adebayor went on:
The problem over the bad treatment of the players and coaches by the federation still persists and as the captain of the team, I won’t turn the blind eye. There is enough time from now until the next phase of the qualifiers for these issues to be addressed so that the future of Togo football can be secured.
Their adventure in Germany was tarnished by very public rows requiring external intervention but FIFA, whilst ready to step in and suspend FAs over political interference, is reticent to become involved in allegations over ill-treatment of players. It is not just a case of applying this to rogue African FAs, the problem has happened elsewhere in the ‘football family’, and involving people who are high placed within FIFA which goes some way to explaining their inaction.
With England taking highest profile of all this afternoon, little surprise that Theo Walcott is garnering some media attention. Claims by Bernd Stock that TW14 is as good as Lionel Messi are somewhat wide of the mark – the Argentinean is more of the finished article – and even Theo is told to ignore media comments, good and bad, for the sake of his mental health. Cappello’s contention that everyone needs to calm down a bit where the player is concerned is correct at every level. The media have been looking for some good news with the national team and they got it in Zagreb. The Italian said:
He is a fantastic player and we are very happy with him. There is big expectation on Walcott – we have to wait for Theo. We have to help him because it’s not possible to play every game like the last one against Croatia.
Damn right, Fabio. The performance was exceptional but with it comes a weight on TW14’s shoulders. If his output this afternoon he will soon be castigated with demands for him to be dropped from Wednesday’s game and returned to the Under-21s, such is the flippancy with which the media cast their attentions.
On the subject of Wednesday, Capello has been the subject of a bizarre outburst by Alexander Hleb, not that this should be any surprise given the specious nature of his excuses for wanting a move to Barcelona. Apparently, Capello is a operating a communist regime by imposing curfews on players and laying down the law where mobile phones and computers are concerned. Whilst Hleb may well be an entirely obedient player and see the benefit of casting aside such distractions whilst training, England players are not necessarily so disciplined. Any team whose goalkeeper is injured using a Playstation handset is testament to that.
Lucas Fabianski is content to wait for his chance behind Manuel Almunia and I suspect that it will not be too long in coming, a season or so at the most. He will miss Tomas Rosicky for some time though as reports this morning suggest that his recovery has been set back due to a bad reaction to injections in his knee, requiring a visit to hospital. All we can do is hope that it is not as serious as being hinted at and the Czech midfielder regains his fitness.
‘til Tomorrow.

Helb sure is still envious of arsenal, I wonder why he wouldn’t just shut his gutter mouth up and face his career at barca.
I also think its time we start to consider rosicky and diaby’s place in the team as vacant and get other people to fill it up. Whenever they are fit to play, they could always fight for a spot. We can have them hold the club to ransom on the depth of the squad..i like rosicky but no sentiments here.
As for Theo, watch him create another dazzle today. He is lovely to watch. why can wenger play Vela and walcot at both ends of our wings..especially when Nasri isn’t feeling great???

Its not fair that Rosicky is still getting paid so much by the club een though he has been out since January. Only in football would a person get paid for nothing. In any other profession he would have been sacked months ago. The club should either cut his wages until he returns or tear up his contract. Thats the reason our wage bill is so high, we are paying a few million a year for him to ly on the table. But even so, hope he gets well soon.

I meant..WHY CANT WENGER PLAY VELA AND THEO ON OUR WINGS especially when NASRI is not fit. Vela got skills, cn finish well and already gotten used to playing on the wings to from his loan spell. Thats an all in one which we aren’t utilizing . Wenger should open his good eyes and see this.

Stu, all your suggestions are impossible. And thank heaven you don’t work for the DWP.
As for Hleb – he’s hardly endearing himself to us gooners, is he?

Gallas has now crossed the line with the reported interview to L’equipe in which he says Arsenal don’t have a winning mentality. As far as I know, in Gallas’ time at Chelsea, Arsenal won more trophies, and was a better team than Chelsea was.
In fact, I just have to point Mr. Gallas to the game at Stamford Bridge in March in which Mr. Gallas and his cohort Mr. Toure couldn’t deal with Drogba, thus costing us the game. I also have to point to his stupid handball at Old Trafford that cost us the result.
Where was your fecking Chelsea winning mentality then Gallas. If you’re not proud to wear the shirt be off. Maybe it’s time to bring in Djourou and drop this guy afterall.
I know Wenger will certainly not take kindly to that statement from his Captain.

Top comments Top Gunn. Add Hleb’s comments about trying to persuade Fabregas to go to Barca (as if he needed more inducement) and I’m happier than ever that he is gone. What a twat.
I hope Gallas was misquoted or the quote was mistranslated. I’ll give him the benefit until I hear otherwise.
Poor Rosicky. He must be gutted. Since he’s been out so long it’s almost like he was never in the team so same old same old for me. If he comes back I’ll welcome him. You honor your contract and I’m sure Arsenal have insurance for this sort of thing. At least I hope they do!
Fingers crossed for no injuries today and another good peformance from Theo.

What cant this gay BASTARD shut up!!!
It was bad enough how he behaved while with us, now he is truly crossing all limits! I believe cesc will leave us at some point, but this is JUST TOO MUCH!!
After hearing this, I have no compunction in saying, I hope somebody breaks his leg!
Who the hell does he think he is??

That’s great news algerian-gooner – if he’s scoring for his country, he might bring that form back to Arsenal.
I cannot believe the callous views expressed about Rosicky – he got injured playing football for Arsenal, not through any fault of his own. The club would be insured against such a thing and in any case a contract is a two-way thing, which should be honoured. Unless he has no prospect of returning to play football, there are no grounds for ‘tearing up’ his contract and an employment tribunal would find in his favour.

I feel very very sorry for Rosicky. he is a player I really like and he suits us down to the ground but his injuries are becoming way too much now. what you have to understand is that he is taking a place up in the squad – not just in body but also financially. unless wenger can move him on, he cannot be replaced by another winger. cleary he still has a contract so as fans all we can do is pray he gets better and comes back a good player – -but I am really not holding my breath. Traore might be the natural successor to that position in our squad.
theo had an OK game today but I think the way England play is a bit different to Arsenal so he looked a bit uncomfortable. I thought Gerrard was once again England’s problem. Hasnt anyone worked out that whenever he plays England do not function and when he doesn’t England suddenly look like a team.
I am hugely disappointed with those comments from Hleb. Its very disrespectful to the club who promoted his career for him for so many years.

Ole gunner I’m hoping Gallas has been mis-translated and what he meant to say was that not many of the team have experience of winning things, which would be true. I’m sure Arsene would be less than impressed if he suggested that the players don’t have a winning mentality because Arsene is always at pains to point out the hunger in this side.
As for Hleb, it doesn’t really matter what he or Cesc might want, Barcelona also have to want him too. With Xavi and Iniesta, they really have no need for Cesc and have made it clear they will not pay a lot of money for him and I can’t see Arsenal letting him go on the cheap.

It’s pick on Rosiicky week is it now. No games this week so we will find another player to pick on. FFS get a life. The man is probably more unhappy about his situation than you.

Are the rumours that Arsenal are interested in Ibrahim Afellay true. I heard we offered around 7 million euros?

What’s all this sanctimony for? There was only one negative comment about Rosicky yesterday.
Since there’s so little to talk about: Anyone notice Ramsey’s performance on Friday? He ruled the first half in a number 10 role against Huddlestone, O’Hara, Noble & co (is it any surprise I was supporting Wales?!).
Gary Speed wants him to be called up for the first team against Germany this week. It can only be good news for us – except we seem to have a host of young playmakers coming through. Where’s the over-developed, knuckle-dragging young spoiler that we need?!
By: Big Al on October 12, 2008

Because we don’t play a ’spoiling’ game Big Al. The type of player we need is someone who can win the ball in the midfield and then do something with it if the ‘play maker’ is being marked out of the game – someone like Villareal’s Senna. Apart from the goal keeper, Arsene does not really go for one role specialists in his teams.
