Middlesbrough roll into town today for an important fixture at The Emirates for differing reasons. For Arsenal, it is vital to get back to winning ways and maintain the advantage over Manchester United and Chelsea. For the visitors, they have to bounce back from an extremely disappointing FA Cup exit at home to Cardiff and also they need points to ensure they stay ahead of their rivals in the relegation fight.
Both United and Arsenal face tough fixtures. Whilst it is not normally something I would appreciate, Chelsea hammering Derby could do us a favour. Any team on the rebound from a drubbing plays a more defensively tight game than normal; if luck goes their way, Derby might yet get a point from their clash with United. I am not holding my breath though.
Mathieu Flamini spoke ahead of the match about the position that the team find themselves in,
Now we cannot concede any more points. We have to win all the time, especially when you are in the title race. We have to work harder, to concentrate more and I’m sure everything will be okay. I think it’s not very good to think too much about the last game. Just try to learn from what happened before. We have to look forward, see what was wrong before and learn and keep going
The recent run of draws has been costly. Instead of being nine points ahead of United, we are two. In some respects Flamini is right but more from the point that it puts pressure on United. They will drop points between now and the end of the season but not too many and with their goal difference being more positive than ours, wins are the key.
Manuel Almunia is bullish about the run-in,
We are still there and have to keeping fighting. Without commitment it is impossible to win it. Even more, because at the end we have four nice games to get the points. It is important to stay at the top to fight for the title in the last few games
The team news at this early stage of writing is pretty positive. Arsene reports that RvP, Kolo Toure and Theo Walcott are all fit and ready to go. Tomas Rosicky meanwhile is a mystery,
Personally I don’t know when he will be back. We miss him yes he is a big player and has a fantastic spirit. We have missed his talent. I can not really give positive news about his injury. It is a strange injury but not a bad one
There is not a lot more that can be said about his injuries. He has been extremely unlucky since joining and it is not an unfair question as to whether his participation at Euro 2008 is a wise idea. However, the way that UEFA and FIFA rules are currently written, it is not down to Arsenal. Surely though, when a player has missed as much of a season his club ought to have the right to withdraw him to enable a full recovery for the new season? Another interminable and undecided debate could ensue but the G-14 have folded and taken their pieces of silver so such a change in the rules is unlikely.
Rosicky is not the only absentee with Abou Diaby also missing. Of the returnees, I suspect only Toure will start. van Persie has been missing for too long for him to be rushed back meaning that Adebayor and Bendtner would be the strikeforce at the outset. Bendtner spoke on Arsenal TV about getting more playing time and the positive impact it would have on his confidence,
I need to obviously get more games. The more you play with the team as a regular starter, then the more you get to learn and know the team. If I can get a good run in the side, then I am sure you will see that I can do it
Bendtner has a fair point but has still time on his hands to learn his trade. The core is there but the refinements will come. Meanwhile, Toure’s return will signal an end to Philippe Senderos’ recent improving run of form. It is harsh in some respects but he is philosophical about his demotion to the bench, a silent acknowledgement that when you are deputy to someone of Toure’s ability, it is somewhat inevitable,
I believe I’ve already shown what I’m capable of. My performances have given me great belief. I’m very happy that the manager gave me his confidence and played me in these games. I will try to do my best for the team. If I lose my place, I will work even harder to get back in
My line up for today would be,
Almunia; Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy; Eboue, Fabregas, Flamini, Hleb; Adebayor, Bendtner
with a bench of
Lehmann, Senderos, Walcott, van Persie, Song
If things are going well, I would hope that van Persie and Walcott would be given half an hour runouts with Adebayor and Hleb being given a well deserved rest. Three points is the key and a big performance as well so much will depend on that before any substitutions are made.
On the Champions League draw, Arsene said it would be ‘interesting and challenging’. Personally, I am not thinking about it until the matches happen.
Enjoy the match wherever you are watching it. ’til Tomorrow.

Hey duke, do you have links, or is this more negativity in the form of random speculation?
Just to point a few facts. Remember those? FACTS.
If we win today, we will have surpassed out 06/07 and our 05/06 point totals. After having lost Henry.
Over the past 5 EPL games, which have brought out the naysayers in droves, ManU has picked up precisely ONE point on us.
With our health problems, it is worth noting that this is the first of 3 matches on a full week’s rest.

The information I have is that Rosicky has always been so even at Stuttgards and might possibly not improve with us. I’m told he never played full seasn over there, meaning that we can’t get his full services here. So why keep him beyond summer? He is a good player and a big one as that but if we can’t get him to produce for us, getting off after every 3/4 games then the best way for us is to release him.
Young players like Barazite has scored 17 goals playing on the right in the reserves so he can share the RM position with Theo next season.Hleb and Vela/Gibbs can take the LM position.
In the end both Eboue and Rosicky has to move on. Rosicky because of his constant injuries and Eboue due to his antics, attitude, play-acting, unwarranted hard tackling and incompetence.
Good Kolo has come. Senderos has come good but we’ll be playing Pool against pacy Torres which Senderos can be found wanting. We’re also up against Chelsea (Drogba) and ManU with their pacy forward line so we can’t continue with Senederos at the CB; too dangerous.
Of course, he’ll continue to get some games but when it comes to these teams with the kind of players who know his play and his weaknesses, Kolo should be the guy.
By: Howard on March 15, 2008

I agree with you Howard about Tomas, good player he might be but to have a history of injury like he has had there is no future for him at the club.
I feel a lot of postees are being a tad harsh on Eboue, frustrating he might be but i can see why Arsene sees something there. I agree with everybody about his behaviour which needs drastic improvement, but there is no doubt when he goes on those runs he looks a very good player.
There are certain parts of his game that he needs to work on ie. his shooting as he probably looks the least likely player to score in our team.
I think we should give him more time as he is still coming to terms with playing in a new position but at the same time if he continuues on with his ridiculous antics then yes the door should be closed on his Arsenal career.

Howard, if someone doesn’t know you he would immediately think you’re a Chel$ki fan or even a Spud.
Talk about selfish. The Scum Mancs kept Ole Gunner Solkajer (or however you write his name) on the books for 3 years with the hope that he might return. You want us to discard a player of Rosicky’s quality just because he couldn’t play a full season. It’s different if the player is pretending to be injured, or doesn’t want to play for the club…but to get rid of him just because he injured himself playing for the club……….Do you ever think of the club’s reputation? Do you ever think how that would be a factor for future players of his caliber signing for the club? No, you only think of what you want, what makes “you” happy. Shame!
—
Eboue,
Every team needs an Eboue, he’s the only one we have who can dish out a tackle without fear. When Chel$ki’ scum Terry was dishing it out to our players no one on our side did anything…who put him in his place Eboue…in fact he took him out of the game…..I don’t condone it, but if a game needs it, we need him.
–
I hope we are due for a win, and a good one because we need to pay Boro back as Arsene said. It’s the only team that beat us this season and we need to get those three points back. They most likely will defend hard and try to counter…We need to score early so we can open and control the game.
Good luck to All Gunners “including Howard”

I like Eboue, and think the Terry incident was unintentional, Terry kicked his foot. However, after Eduardo don’t defenf him by stating that if we need to take a player out…
Like many others, I’d like Flamini to stay but if he doesn’t, we’ll find another. He may “deserve” a pay rise, but he’s had one outstanding season and been reliable in the other years

This is now an absolute must win.
For me RVP & Eboue are certain starters.
Eboue fits into our pattern of play, allowing Sagna to go forward. You need to see him close up to see his true qualities as a player.
RVP needs to get into his stride for the big games, as they all are now.
Boro are probably the most unpredictable team in the PL, totally inadequate at times but a match for anyone at others.
We need to make a statement today & blow them away. Easier said than done though .

Vet agree on Eboue, there is a real dislike towards the the young lad, but as far as I’m concern the flashes of his game leads me once again to confirm the Boss knows what he is doing. Tommy, read as above, they seem to be sticking with him, why, well he’s the Boss and rarely has he been proved wrong. Would like a re-run on how many thought he was stupid to get rid of Henri? I just feel today will give us all an idea how well RVP has recovered and we waited since October for him.

You don’t understand. The guy can’t play 4 matches in a role without getting injured so how can we rely on him. Soljaer comparism is not appropriate because he was a supersub throughout his career at MANU but was always fit to come in.
In the case of Tom, he’s just not available because of his constant injuries. Its been so throughout his career and is something may be Arsene didn’t check properly before signing him.
Eboue’s behaviour is becoming an eyesore for the Arsenal’s historical class and quality. Its an embarassement and he’s an average player on top. Once Theo come good, we may not need his services. He can’t even score with the GK out of the post and his theatrics are degrading at best.
By: Howard on March 15, 2008

forget about eboues behaviour for a moment and tell me what has he done for us this year? since when does arsenal need a right winger who is only there to tackle? thats nonsense. even ray parlour who was a toguh player was much more effective going forward. the fact is eboue hasnt scored at all this season and he hasnt really had more than 1 assist. if he was good defensively like some people say then why did sagna replace him as number 1 right back? im 80 percent sure wenger will seel him this summer. i hope eboue still has a part to play this season but he really has to improve alot, he just hasnt been good enough this year
By: omar on March 15, 2008

Until Arsenal.com post the news that Eboue is leaving….I will support him, because he wears the shirt…You and fans that post this about him just fuel more and more tiarde against him from others who are not fans, plus the media and then refs pick up on it …which will not help Arsenal in any case.
We don’t know what exactly the problem Rosicky has, Arsene said on the web site that it’s a strange injury…and until they figure it out and determine that he is not playable any more….then we should not kick the man when he is down.
That’s all what I’m saying.
It’s like saying well, Eduardo will be injured for a year now what good is he for us? Can you say that without appearing to be a heartless, selfish person? I don’t think so.
By: G4E on March 15, 2008

I’ll worry about Flamini’s departure when/if it is confirmed by the club. For now I’m more concerned about getting through the rest of the season.
Agree G4E, as long as Arsene believes any player has a part to play for the team I will support them.
I am also shocked about the callous attitude of some towards our injured players. If you feel frustrated about it, try imagining how they must feel.
P.S. does anyone know what is going on with Denilson? Arsene has not mentioned him amongst the injured, yet he is no where to be seen?

If I am this frustrated about Rosicky I can’t imagine how he feels! This season has been an utter disappointment for him I think. He was playing so well but now is out for an undetermined time with an unusual injury. It must make you question yourself to the core.
We need good cover for him and we need to send him to a specialist who can accurately diagnose the problem and determine whether he should even be playing football.

RVP surely has to bet 90 minutes (or at least 80) under his belt before we play chelsea. how can he come on today as a sub and then hope to start against Chelsea. we really need him tip top ready for the chelsea game so RVP WILL start today.
I would like to see Walcott before Eboue but I suspect wenger will want Eboue to get 90 mins since he has missed 3 prem games. I think he sees Eboue as a more central part of his run in plans. Walcott can still offer a hell of a lot from the bench at about 60 mins.

UTD are lucky c**ts. We get caught in a prem slug out with LPOOL, then CHELSEA in all probability if we get through. Far higher intensity games than will be played against the continentals. It also could be the deciding balance on the PL outcome. UTD are laughing… I had so hoped that UTD would get CHELSEA with a LPOOL to follow
I said it before – this Arsenal side need a trophy and the best bet is the PREM. I for one would not have been sad if we had went out against MILAN.
With the squad and injuries, our luck will need to improve if we are to negotiate these games without more injuries
On the other hand – what a series of massive games – UTD, LPOOL, CHELSEA.
I think that at the very least, we should have had another class left wing option for Rosicky. After all he is not really a winger anyway. If Hleb got injured Rosicky could have played inside and the proven left wing talent (RIBERY!!!) would have been deployed to open up teams down the left flank. A serious gaffe Arsene!
Yogi – Derby a hard game for UTD today – don’t make me laugh! 3-0 minimum

Good to see your boy ADE still coughing up the ball giving up possession every time he briefly has it!, yes give him the ball and watch him score alright ! it might take over 500 minutes of game time camping in the box to “watch him score’, but im sure one day he will find the back of the net, with the amount of options going forward our midfield creates you would think he would at least make ONE CHANCE …look like ‘A CHANCE’ !
ME wanting a striker during the transfer window doesn’t sound such a bad suggestion now HUH NACHO !! Also flamini still cant find a pen in north london pat ! It goes to show me how little you all can see and read your team !
And nacho who are you kidding ? next year we will have more options ? the way things are going we will lose 3 or 4 players …
Also someone said at the start of the season arsenal is a horse thats bolted from the gates to early to lead the pack ..

Face it boys, there are no excuses, we aint got the squad to cope with the prem and we aint playing well enough to deserve winning it.

Very perverse stuff above. What makes you laugh?
You almost seem triumphant. And do you think your opinion makes a difference? Do you think that fans of Adebayor have cost Arsenal the title. Come to think of it: Do you even like Arsenal?
Adebayor’s improved to this point, he’ll improve from here. For the sane people, here’s another view: It looks like we’re bottling it a little, but at least we’re not losing games.
There’s still hope for the title.

Arse..sh’t..b*ll@cks…!!!!!No where to hide after that performance. Alliadiere couldnt spank the back of a donkey at Arsenal and suddenly becomes the hero 4 Boro again! But hey we should be used to this by now 10 men behind the ball, visiting team scores a goal against the run of play and defends even deeper.Arsenal couldnt come up with the goods again.Maybe we were unlucky but managed to scrape a draw in the end. I cant say that I was not dissapointed with the result but ever the optimist this Prem race will end in May.And after gifting Man U a 3 point lead its all to play!We can only get better

Why should Ade bring the ball back anytime he gets a pass? Why can’t he shoot at times? We don’t have a scoring threat now. Everybody wants to pass and nobody gets to run at defenders.
So up to now, Cesc and Ade don’t know that in a one-on-one, you’re better off lifting the ball than kicking on the ground? They never learn.
Why should Theo sit at the bench with Eboue playing? He had a yellow card again today. His disciplinary record is terrible and I don’t know what’s so special about him that Arsene continue to field him?
Eboue prefers to fall in the 18 area than attempt a shot; it’s frustrating.

Please, we were ROBBED. If you choose to blame the players who’ve been carrying us all along instead of the blatantly poor game of the ref, I don’t know what to say. Not that I want to keep whinging about the ref either – we should have put a couple of chances away. But Cesc hit the post with his header. And I don’t know why all these keepers save their performances of the season against us?!
Backs all to the wall – that’s when we perform best – and let’s end Chelsea’s unbeaten home run next week!

By: Jimmy on March 15, 2008

Why does that sound so very familiar to me?
Southgate thinks Mido’s red card was harsh:
“I don’t think he meant it,”
“He caught him but he was looking at the ball the whole time and Mido is distraught because he’s not a dirty player.”
“It’s a nasty injury but hopefully the ref will have a look at it as I feel the lad was trying to play the ball.”
“He’s been to see Clichy and he’s disappointed that the knock is so bad.”
“Should he have his foot that high? Maybe not, but I don’t think there was any intent there and a three-game ban would be harsh.”
Now where have we heard that before?
How times do we have to see these things happen before someone learns to understand that dangerous play doesn’t have to be intentional to deserve punishment e.g. 3-match ban?
If you’re interested to see those lines repeated, click on my name to read the Sky article.

All the officials today made mistakes. Ade’s goal was not offside because it was a Boro player who played the ball back. (ref 3 mtr away) Their goal was offside and not called. Going to be hard to win the title now but it is not over till the table says so.
By: Steve on March 15, 2008
at 10:14 pm
This is what Wenger was told by the ref about the disallowed goal.
“The referee explained that the intention of our player was to play the ball to someone who was offside so the fact that it came off their player didn’t matter,” Wenger said.
By: Steve on March 15, 2008
at 10:19 pm
So if a defender intercepts the ball and kicks it back, our forward is offside.
And Aliadiere wasn’t offside because he wasn’t in a “threatening position” when the ball was played. Except the part where he scored, I guess.
The FA has this amazing way of implying that the rules of football are not in fact the rules of football.
Hleb had his worst game of the year. Not often you can say that Eboue was better than Hleb.

Ade still Ade, the one scored 19 PL goals this season and just because he didn’t score in the last few games….it doesn’t mean he is a bad player overnight….only a “retard” would think this way. Did you get that Ethan? or do I need to explain more? Go support your team, they are not even in the top ten.

The English referees prove more and more that they are no better than the English players, no wonder they do sh*t in international tournaments. I wonder if they referee these games while being drunk.
***Mark my words***
Not so long ago a player got his leg broken, today Clichy’s head was going to get cut off his body, and not before long a player is going to get killed on the field in England. What makes me sad, that it’s all happening to Arsenal players and always seems to be ok because it’s Arsenal.
Again, if this was an English player on the receiving end….”and” from an Egyptian, Mido’s
head would be hanging in Piccadilly square by now.
F*uck the points, f*ck the title, I just don’t want to see a player I love get killed in front of my eyes.

Me and ethan the same person? What’s wrong with you? Arsenal players should be above criticism, right? You mean we should praise them even if they’re not performing? Mind you, they’re pocketing so much a week to be above criticism.
Don’t you see despite Ade’s goals he’s still not the complete striker we need? Over-reliance on Ade has introduced arrogance and over-confidence in his play.
Ade’s disagreement with fellow players on the field of play (it’s happening in almost every game)when he doesn’t get a pass, is TH14 all over again. Meanwhile this is a player who’s so wasteful with passes and scoring opportunities. Arsene should have benched him in the first half and allow Nik to start. I also believe Theo should have started ahead of Eboue.
The title chances are slipping and we can only resurrect our chances only if we beat Chelsea, otherwise we might be struggling for a second place. Its amazing how we blew a lead of 5 points mainly because of complacence on the part of these holier-than-thou players.
I’m only praying that Clichy gets over the injury before we play Chelsea. They’ll be fielding Drogba and Gallas on the left with Senderos against Drogba/Anelka is not a good match-up for us.
We’re slipping seriously and we need a big win to bring back our title challenge. We need Hleb, Cesc, RvP(the only striker who attempts shots, instead of passing on end), Gallas, Sagna, Kolo and recovered Clichy at their peak.
I’ve left out Ade because he’s so unreliable and inconsistent and his cockiness is not helping the team.

Howard, I think Jimmy wanted to say that you and Ethan have the same exact view almost word for word…you may be two different people but you both are reading from the same book.
Where was Ade’s arrogance today? Are you still watching the same game from 3 months ago when he shaked his head to the fans?
I think Eboue played very good today considering he was out for 3 games, plus it showed he can be useful playing in two different positions in the same game.
You are still saying the same old thing, blaming the same players you hate.
How come I don’t hear you blaming Hleb for being sh*t in this game? Who exactly played good? But, you have to blame Eboue & Ade right?
