Manchester City 1 – 3 Arsenal
0 – 1 Adebayor (9)
0 – 2 Eduardo (26)
1 – 2 Fernandes (28)
1 – 3 Adebayor (88)
A comfortable win at the City of Manchester stadium, inflicting the hosts’ first Premier League home defeat of the season and importantly, taking advantage of Manchester United’s fortunate point at White Hart Lane.
The performance was controlled and measured, dictating the tempo of the game from start to finish, achieved without getting out of second gear. Two goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and a masterclass in finishing from Eduardo will be the facts that history records but it does not tell the whole story about how possession was wrestled from City with ease and retained remarkably well to the extent that it was almost impossible to believe that Arsenal were the visitors. The watching Fabio Capello has more reason than anyone to be dismayed by the technical lessons handed out to the native players yesterday lunchtime, their deficiencies in technique laid bare for all to see.
Micah Richards and Richard Dunne have been in excellent form this season but when Arsenal attacked, they found themselves exposed, Adebayor in particular running them ragged, exploiting gaps all afternoon. The opening goal came as Alexander Hleb fed Bacary Sagna; the pass was a little short but the full back muscled past Ball to cross for Adebayor to squeeze the ball home. It was a ‘poachers’ goal that Arsenal have long been criticised for not scoring often enough.
Adebayor was to turn provider for the second fifteen minutes or so later. Clichy was released on the left and with time and space, delivered the perfect cross for Adebayor to climb above the defence to nod down to Eduardo. Displaying superb control and ability, he controlled the ball on his chest, swivelled and volleyed home. Forget talk of being offside, marvel at the technique involved. It was, I think, his only shot on target during the ninety minutes and showed a positional sense that many strikers would die for.
Having played an integral part in the second, Clichy was culpable for the City goal minutes later. Failing to clear properly, he was dispossessed by Corluka on the byeline, the ball pulled back for Fernandes to score. It was probably his first costly error this season so far, inevitable that the fates should decree it happen following a few days of fulsome praise.
For the rest of the half, Diaby, Fabregas, Flamini and Hleb dominated proceedings. Eduardo reverted to the left, moving Diaby inside and they rotated their support of Adebayor extremely well. The performances by Diaby in particular are growing the more time he spends in the first team. Yesterday, his choices when in possession were on the whole well thought out, opting to run and pass in equal measure, rarely allowing himself to be forced into dead ends through having a left foot that is used only for standing on. The remainder of the midfield quartet were as effective. Flamini worked hard, supporting defence and attack with some aplomb whilst Hleb did likewise, causing no end of problems from the right. Fabregas blew hot and cold although more often than not it was the former, passing efficiently through the City midfield and defence although marginalised at times as City sought to stem the flow of Arsenal possession by flooding the midfield with personnel.
In defence, Philippe Senderos held firm with William Gallas, showing a huge improvement in his distribution whilst Sagna controlled the right hand side, rarely allowing Petrov any time or space to work in. It was a toss-up between Sagna and Adebayor for Man of the Match, that ‘award’ given to the latter for the contribution to the team and involvement in all three goals.
The criticism of Adebayor frankly leaves me baffled. Rarely has a forward worked so hard to defend from the front for the rest of his team, even more rare is that he works all of the time he is on the pitch. That work-rate was exemplified for the third goal. Fouled in the Arsenal half with crass stupidity by Elano, Adebayor picked himself up and ran half the length of the pitch to receive Fabregas’ pass on the penalty spot. Unmarked, he took his time to bury the opportunity.
That advantage was a rare moment of sanity in an otherwise poor officiating performance. Adebayor was denied a penalty, bundled off the ball by Richards and Dunne, wrestling is apparently no longer an offence in football. Petrov was equally denied a clear run on goal by a strange offside ruling although nowhere near as bizarre as the one that denied Everton a winner at Ewood Park.
Onto the papers, the News of the World has a brief interview with Kolo Toure who is concerned with the number of games he will play this season,
It is a concern that if we get to the final or the third place match I will go back to London after being involved in six games in about eighteen days. I have done this before but these are tough and physical games in a knockout competition…That is not ideal considering the schedule we have ahead of us at Arsenal
Absolutely right. The farcical timing of the competition provides more ammunition in the club v country row and as Toure says,
A lot of players would support moving the Africa Cup of Nations to the summer. We all love playing for our country but it’s important that our clubs are respected
Climatic conditions are long held to be the rationale for the timing but this is blown to pieces by the award of the 2010 World Cup to South Africa. If the heat is considered oppressive, might not the common sense solution be to play the games in the evening? It is irrelevant for this tournament though and one can only hope that Toure, Eboue and Alex Song come through the remainder unscathed for a big month for Arsenal.
‘til Tomorrow.

What a position we now find ourselves in. The players, well the squad has shown such a desire to learn and improve themselves that this opportunity we now have is richly deserved.
We have shown character galore in the early part of this season, if we can match it in the latter half we will become Champions.
For those of you, who have cried out for signings, your wish shall be granted, because that is exactly what the return of Van Persie will be like.
His return alongside his African colleagues, can fire the squad to silverware. Previous to his injury nightmare Van Persie was our most potent attacker, to have acheived this in his absence is not only testament to our maturing squad but also an indication of how strong we will shortly be.
For the doubters, the time is here to join in with the players, the manager and the large majority of fans and allow yourself to believe.
Can’t work out whether it’s the beer or just plain excitement that woke me at 6 this morning.

Good win though we hardly looked like we got out of second gear. Now if only we could turn defence into attack with some precision like bergkamp used to do we would be unbeatable again, but let’s not get greedy eh? Only concerns were that sometimes we got complacent and here is where I have to disagree about diaby. He was too casual and sloppy at times, though it wasn’t just him. I just think he hasn’t recovered the verve and zest he first showed before breaking his leg. Still a good player mind.

I think I must have been watching a different game with regard to your assessments of Diaby and Hleb.
Hleb is having a poor run of games by his standard and gave the ball away a lot more than usual yesterday – but saying that, everyone’s allowed a slight dip in form.
Diaby is more of a concern because his decision making is still naff, although he is improving. I lost count of the number of times I screamed at him to pass the ball, only to see him lose it a put us in a bit of trouble.
Finally, Ade is playing great, but I really wish he would pay more attention to the offside rule. Even looking along the line he strays a yard off. I’m sure his return would be even greater if he just paid attention to where the line was once and a while.
It’s all good though and I’m very excited about the rest of the season – Come on you Reds!!!

Diaby is making the odd mistake but critically is regularly involved in our build up play.
It looks to me like he is giving opposition sides a problem. I think he’s doing quite well.
On another note, Eduardo’s goal while off side was a thing of beauty. His overall awareness, assuredness matched by simple but quite stunning execution.

Fancy having to say something negative about Ade. 9 goals in 6 games and yet you still had to say something negative about him.
I just can’t fathom that mentality, mate.

Danny, even Arsene Wenger has said that, if he has one criticism of Adebayor, it is that he strays offside too often. It’s a fact. It doesn’t detract from his achievements, but it’s something he can work on.

Hi Yogi,
On the whole a good performance from the lads yet again, I can’t believe I was one of the guys knocking king Ade at the start of the season! He’s in sensational form, Edu not looking bad either, he looks like he could be something special especially as he ‘hasn’t gotten used to the English game yet’!!! I do have to disagree about Diaby though, I thought the amount of times he lost the ball causing Arsenal to have to back peddle rapidly in defense is alarming from a bloke who wants to play center mid. No way did he have a good game! I counted at least six times where he coughed up possession needlessly simply by showing too much of the ball.
Hleb for mine, showed touches of his high standard although I’m sure he would be the first to agree it wasn’t his best performance in an Arsenal shirt.
On an unrelated matter I should be at the Emirates on 1st March for the Villa game all the way from down under, can’t wait, anyone fancy a pint??!!!!

Yogi,
South Africa is in the Southern hemisphere so During the European summer it is the middle of our winter so heat will definitely not be problem the average day time high in winter is between 15 to 20 degrees celsius and at night it drops to just above zero so trust me heat won’t be a problem.

Danny -
I’m not having a go at Ade mate, but everyone can improve. I think Jeanette confirms what I mean, so no need to dweel.
I’m with Aussiegunner on the Diaby situation as well. He should be better with aspirations to play CM. He does cause problems to the opposition but he also causes problems to our defence when he loses the ball cheaply.
By the way – Hope you have a great time Aussie – it’s three years since I’ve been back home and I’m very envious of you right now.
Oh – And Lehmann – Is it just me, or does he cause anyone else to miss the odd beat. He doesn’t inspire confidence and that’s when he doesn’t have much to do. I also wish he would distribute quicker – he seems to love time on the ball, maube trying to catch the German coach’s eye. By the time he looks to go short, everyone is marked, so he punts in long and if Ade doesn’t get it, we’ve invariably surrendered possession. I’ll be much happier when Al returns.

Great review Yogi as always, your obviously a journo or writer of some kind, if not, you should be.
Agree with Danny about RVP, on his return he will be like a new signing. My only concern is that he has now been out for so long, it will take him some time to come back to match fitness. When he does return though he will partner Ade the best striker in the Premiership. What a pairing when they are both on their game, and with Eds and Bendtner waiting in the wings we have a wealth of offensive options.
We all should excuse Gael, although i am one of his biggest fans, he has done enough this season to warrant that mistake.
Kolo comes out with a lot of sense but as we already know any club signing an African knows you are going to lose him for that period. If you dont agree, dont sign him, its as simple as that.

I agree with Yogi and Danny, just appreciate the players performances even those who are still learning. No one is perfect and part of learning is making mistakes. This run of games has been good for Diaby as he is improving each game.
As for the criticism of Ade, I think it’s become almost a reflex action with some people. They hate that he has proven them wrong so they jump on the only thing they have left to criticize him for. What will they do when he learns to judge the offside trap? Probably complain about the way he celebrates his goals!

Steve,
The thing is all players can improve and make mistakes, but people only really tend to metion these areas or moments in games about players they do not favour.
For example, we could go on about Clichy, but there seems little point, it was a mistake, he has had a fine season and we understand mistakes happen.
However, if Ade, Diaby or Senderos make mistakes or show areas requiring work it is constantly highlighted.
Maybe, this is not really a pointer for yourself Steve but certainly it is a bit of a comlaint I have in general.
Ade is on fire, he is scoring the goals that are firing our title charge. Without him we would be no where!
Of course he could improve, but I don’t hear United fans highlighting Ronaldo’s mistakes.
Ade is a leader for this team, for that I am eternally grateful.

The climate in south Africa is different from that in the western part of Africa. I do however find the timing of the African cup to be poor and the excuse the football federation gives to be too convenient. The truth is the reason why it is poorly timed is because of money.

Ade is improving match after match. His touch has improved as well as his passing which I’ve always complained about. If he adds shots to his game especially when opportunities arise outside the 18, he will bebetter than Drogba.
On the flip side, I don’t like his goal celebrations, looks self centred to me. He seems to be cocky and too self-opinionated. Arsene needs to advise him to cool it.
I don’t know how bad RvP will be feeling now on the treatment table watching the team defy so-called pundits match after match.

Hi All
Great post YW.
Losing the ball 6 times for Diaby eh. Well I can count Fab Cesc losing it about 8 times. Why is no one mentioning it. Diaby has improved over the last few games from game to game. So has Sendy. Mind you so has Cesc. the mid field played very well except in the last 10 minutes of the first half when our tempo fell off abit. But we got it back after the break and went on to win it quite comfortably.
Nevermind I am too happy to get into an argument today. I watch this game in a pub in Singapore where the official Arsenal Fan Club meets. We were cheering and chanting. In general it was a great night out for all of us.
It got even better when the Spuds drew with the Manures even if the should have won it. Ronaldo was absent for large part of the game for all you Winker worshippers
We are top of the pile again and long may it last.

Considering no one had beaten City at Eastlands all season, the way we eased to our win was even more impressive. Ade’s on fire, players still to come back, rivals dropping points, all’s good right now.
Regarding African Nations Cup, I’ve just got back from two great weeks in Ghana watching 11 matches and I can vouch for the validity of the weather argument. The climate in Ghana is currently very warm but by the 5pm kick offs, not too hot for football. If you tried to host a tournament in Ghana in June/July I’d fear for the safety of the players in the searing heat. Clubs have always known that if they sign an African player, they may lose them for 5 weeks once every two years. We just need to deal with it.

I agree howard ,
He is getting better (only aided by the 4-4-2 formation) but also getting predictable .
His leg is ball and chained to the 6 yard box , and is just poaching like yogi stated .. Not very Arsenal Like ….As far as finesse and stylish build ups are concerned , but against our recent opposition he has done well on paper ..
And this Head nodding shite , as a celebration is just embarrassing to watch !!And you wonder why i have a problem with him !!!
I think he must be nodding to TH14 ? But being spoon fed great opportunities from sagna and alike, then making himself the focal point is just disrespectful !
This isnt arsenals style of game .. And once RVP is back i only pray that things change .. Or ade gets better …

Yogi, the African Cup of Nations can not hold in Summer because that’s rainy season in tropical Africa. You can’t hold a major tournament in the rains.
The vast majority of the players who feature are not in Kolo Toure’s position where his club is challenging on three fronts and he is an important player for them.
It-s not farcical to host the tournament in the Winter. It’d be like calling it farcical to have our season hold from from August to May.

What a bunch of sour-pusses. Like the proverbial fox, they thought Ade was an easy target, hurling insults and calumnies as they sought to tear him down and big-up rival forwards (Bendtner anyone) or big-signings. But their ill-informed, unfounded assessments of Ade having been proven consistently and progressively wrong as the season progresses they now resort to he is arrogant or he is too often off-side. I won’t even mention the nonsense that a certain racist wrote earlier. You know who you are. The proof is in the pudding. Not only 19 goals and counting but the manner in which Ade single-handedly terrorizes the center-halves in the EPL. Man City is a case in point, whose defenders were like boys beside the big man. Richards has speed and he has spring but Ade outran him and out-jumped him. Neither he nor Dunne could defend Ade one-on-one. As Le Boss has said he would not swap Ade for any player in the world because he is “a real centre forward.” and “he has made big improvement this season and has been remarkably consistent.” As for Ade’s character, I defer to the Boss over any of these ill-informed characters when he says “He is a generous type of guy. He has big, big stamina plus great strength and power. He loves to play.”
I used to say next to Drogba, Ade is the best center-forward in the EPL, but based on his performances to date, I am beginning to change my mind and join the Boss in saying he is simply the best. The scary part is he is only 23-24 and he will only get better. Go Ade! Go Gunnahs!

I used to live in Nigeria and I assure you that you couldn’t host a tournament in the summer there. In the month of July Lagos gets more rain than London gets in a year. Sometimes it rains so heavily that cars have to park cos their wipers can’t cope!
It’s true that the World Cup is being held in SA in summer, but that’s far in the Southern Hemisphere and, in Africa, football is mostly dominated by West African countries – Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Mali and the rest.
One thing they could do is what we do with the Ashes. Alternate it between the northern and southern hemispheres – Ghana this time, South Africa next time – and then alternate the seasons it’s held in.
On a different note, maybe I don’t read enough Arsenal blogs, but who’s criticising Adebayor? Everyone (everyone sensible at least) seems to be full of his praise – and rightly so.
By: halfNice on February 3, 2008

Grow up. You start hurling insults about like a four year old in a playground when people don’t agree with you. Not everyone agrees with all the opinions on here but they do not resort to the childish behaviour you display. It is tiresome in extremis.
Arguments about goalscoring celebrations are churlish. What do you expect him to do? He scores, acknowledges the set up as part of the ‘group hug’ – what more do you want? Get a life.
As for criticising the opposition he scores against. Dear God Boy, learn your football history. Great goalscorers of any era have problems scoring against certain teams at some point in time; Adebayor scores against the opposition put in front of him. Take Ian Rush as an example. During his heyday, he could score against anyone he wanted except for Manchester United, which took him years to break his duck against. Put simply, the very good teams know how to load defences against in-form forwards.
Certain players have a lucky streak against big teams. Eto’o has a good record of results against Real Madrid.
Give Adebayor credit where it is due; he scores home and away in equal amounts unlike Ronaldo whose goals are scored predominantly at Old Trafford, this seasons ratio being something like three at home for every one away.

Danny –
I love having Ade in the team and after Flamini and Clichy, at the moment in time he would be the third name on my team sheet. That wasn’t the case for a month just before Christmas as he was having a bit of a dip in form, but it is the case recently.
In saying that, I thought this was a blog where we could discuss our opinons on everything Arsenal and specifically the blog. I didn’t mentioned other players because I agreed with the writer’s assessments on the whole. I did however mention Ade, Diaby & Hleb, because my opinion of thier performances is slightly different to the writer’s.
In Ade’s case, I was full of praise for the way he played by I get so frustrated that he could be so much better if he just paid attention to the offsides. Clichy’s mistake was a one-off, but Ade gets caught offside too many times every week and a pattern has developed. It frustrates me a lot and I wanted to voice that. Count the number of offsides he has next match and then imagine what could have been if he’d held his runs for one more second. I’m sure he’ll learn and then be even more prolific, but if no one says anything to him and just keep telling him he’s great – he won’t know there’s a problem and therefroe won’t address it.
If this site is meant for people to just mindlessly agree with the writer and to not say anything which might be construed as anti-Ade or anti-certain members of the Arsenal team, then I’ve misunderstood and I won’t bother you good people again with my perspective. The wife and the dog will have to juts put up with my rants a bit more, LMAO

well put yogi, i feel its a shame that a respectable well written review such as yours is marred by these comments…you’d think half the readers are cretins! how on earth can anyone say anything negative about Ade right now…i decided to support him through his learning curve ever since that old trafford winner yet i still have to pinch myself to believe how good he’s become in just one year! remember when u had to wait for him to miss 2 sitters before he’ll score…When lets not forget goalscoring isn’t even his forte as he brings so much more to the team! he is fast becoming indispensable! dudu’s finish was absolutely world class! what a great player he’s going to be. & when the ridiculously talented RVP comes back…god help whoever we come up against! as for the mercurial Diaby, he can be one of the premier midfielder’s in the world if he really bucks up, he frustrates me so much but i agree with yogi in that he’s slowly improving & i think he’s definitely a player we should be patient with as his potential is freighting! sagna was superb yesterday! buy of the season for me! i personally thought lehmann looked assured yday tho he didnt have much to do! i think he’ll make the most of this oppertunity as he has euro 2008 in the horizon….remember his season leading tup to the 2006 world cup! best in the league that season. come on u gooners

Yeah Yogi, you tell them! I was growing tired of hearing all the negative comments when things were nowhere near as bad as was described/worried. I’m all for reasonable debate, but sometimes some of our fellow ‘fans’ are just trying to pick on tiny little flaws that don’t really hurt in the grand scheme of things.
To call Ade ‘predictable’ is bordering on laughable. He scores with his left foot, his right foot, his head, he creates chances, he takes the ball down for team-mates (come on, look at Eduardo’s beauty of a goal – ball brought down by Ade!), he keeps defenders busy and dying in those non-stop runs, he loves the club and celebrates in his own way of expressing it. Even if he’s acting a bit showy at times, he’s earned to right to. Like Walata said, if Ronaldo’s theatrics are so accepted and even well received, why are Ade’s celebrations any different?
Just what more do you guys want?! And specifically, who do you think would be able to do what Ade’s doing, all round, not just scoring goals, fit into the Arsenal team, play in the Arsenal style, work well with the whole team (well possibly only Bendtner would have a problem with him – look at how much Cesc, Hleb, Rosicky, Clichy, Sagna and Gallas love him, celebrating his goals with him), and at a more affordable cost than the reported 7m that we paid for him? Name one player please?!

Well on a separate note, heard from those who watch ACN that Song’s been doing quite well in the CM position. Did you guys watch his performances? If he could play as a DCM as well as he did in CB, I’d be less worried about the lack of back-up with Diarra gone and Gilberto going. Maybe that’s what’s on AW’s mind when he sold Diarra, though reluctantly?
By: Lou on February 3, 2008

Steve,
I think I did clarify that it was not neccessarily yourself who’s comments I find most dissappointng.
It does still pain me that we have to find reasons to criticise a player who scored two and made one.
Maybe, he’d be better off not scoring while we’ve needed him too.
Bottom line is Henry left and Van Persie has had an injury nightmare, someone had to step up and this lad has.
So I’m more focused on giving the lad credit, judging by the boss’s comments so is he.
If you read some of the strange comments since your first post, you might understand where I’m coming from. Either way, no need to overplay the martydom. I said I do not understand why you need to make a negative comment, not I disagree with you having an opinion or posting here.
I just want to celebrate where we are and the oppourtunity we now have. It will be tough to grab this title, but pre-season nobody outside of the club gave us a chance. In fact, there were even some Gooners who said we could not challenge for this title but here we are. We are in pole position and they’d all swap places for where we stand currently.
So I’m thankful for Ade and the rest of the squad, because when everyone doubted, they were brave enough to believe.

Senderos has really stepped up his game since Kolo left for the Arfrican Nations. I was really worried about the central defense, but he is growing into the spot, very aggressive and no mistakes for a while now that I can recall. Might even give Kolo some rest when he gets back from Ghana, although not against ManU and Milan.

Hello, all
Thanks for the post, Yogi. What an arse-tastic weekend!
Going back to Diaby, I only heard the game on the radio, but watching the MOTD highlights later on, I saw that he made a couple of telling interceptions – one a vital header away from the goal and the other an interception in midfield which broke up a very promising City attack. It just seems as if something has clicked in his brain lately about what he needs to work on – is it fanciful to connect it with Diarra’s departure? I have a very good feeling about Diaby and I’m sure he’s now going to make that push on to the next level.

It was a really great game to watch, and the second (Eduardo’s) was real class from start to finish – classic counter-attacking and clever finishing. Apart from the Clichy mistake Arsenal never looked in trouble and you’ve got to fancy yourself for the title at the moment, but of course it’s too early to write off the Mancs (*spits on the floor*) or Chavski.

A win at City this season though, is not to be sneezed at, even though we did seem to make it hard for ourselves.
When was the last time you thought “I wish big Phil had been there instead of Gael…that ball would have been in row ZZ.”? But so high is Gael’s confidence that playing your way out of trouble seems a natural thing to do. Not always, son, not always. You put my mind into “2-0 and we f****d it up” mode for a spell.
The Flamster was again massive (as indeed were Phil and Bill) and just proved what an essential element of the mix he is…especially when Cesc and Aleks are missing.
They weren’t missing? Oh. Let me rephrase that then. “…especially when Cesc and Aleks aren’t playing.”
Better?
What can one say about AdeB other than thanks for improving my Premier League fantasy side? He really has turned into Action Man and like many others, I’m so grateful to Mali for ending Togo’s ACN bid. The way he set up Eduardo (who didn’t do a bad job of finishing, did he?) was also a bit special.
Last but not least a word on “La Sagna”. I thought Arsene may have just been taking the piss out of the spuds when he brought in both Bacary and Diarra …but Bacary may well prove to be one of his best ever signings. The way he laid on that first goal was really rather special.
Bit of a pity that the lasagne munchers from the slough of despond managed to blow it in the 4th minute of a 3 minute overtime. But can you expect any different? Apparently the FA have recently turned down an application from Edmonton to form a professional football team. This on the basis that if Edmonton gets one, Tottenham will want one as well.
But top of the league again, and, 31 points ahead of the spuds with 13 games to play. We should see an earlier St Tott’s Day than usual. And that’s always fun.

Adebayor was the most frustrating Arsenal player last season…you were just waiting for it all to click. This season it has.

After reading some of these comments, I must say, I cannot believe that all are from genuine Arsenal supporters. As for the ‘Oracle’, his comments, well I just can’t take them seriously. As for being a racist, if this is true, and with such an illness, how can you even watch the Arsenal? Thankfully Arsene is ‘colour-blind. As for Ade’s head nodding celebration, there is a thin line between arrogance and confidence!

Steve D
I have no problem with people disagreeing with me – my wife and sons have been doing that for years!
I take issue with childish and pointless rows that descend into petulance. If there is a well constructed argument, people on both sides of the fence will, I hope, respect that. I would be more than happy to debate the merits of players or matches but not when it is over their goal celebrations. That could be a valid debate if the scorer was pushing all and sundry aside, being disruptive of the harmony but as of yet, I have not seen that this season.

Steve D,
You have a point about the offside number maybe growing, but if you don’t try to beat the offside line you will never score. I can’t really fault him for trying.
But can’t you see, he is scoring in other ways? By headers against New Castle, two by right foot at Man City……The offsides would be crucial if he’s not scoring.
I also don’t think the offside stats are just going to fly by Wenger’s eyes and he’s not going to do anything about it. If there is a problem, it will be addressed but otherwise, he is really doing what we need right now…score.
To even say that his last two goals were poachers goals….it offsets the “buy world class players to win the title at any cost” argument. Goals from inside the 6 yard box, or 2 yards all count at the end, if you can’t see the beauty in the majority of his goals….then it’s just a matter of preference.
I think, he is doing well at 23 years old. He can improve, he has the time to improve and in the process he’s contributing nicely to team effort. Right now his name maybe chanted for long periods of time because he is scoring more, and he is swimming in that. When RVP is back to his form, when Eduardo keeps improving, there will be a lot of names to chant.

Oh dear..
Speculation on Adebayor’s future with arsenal already.
“Arsene Wenger could be facing a desperate battle to keep star striker Emmanuel Adebayor at Arsenal after the Togo international enhanced his growing reputation by helping the Gunners pull clear at the top of the Premier League.”
“Several of the continent’s leading clubs, including Real Madrid, Juventus and AC Milan are known to be keeping close tabs on the progress of the lanky forward with a view to making a bid for him in the summer.”

not sure if anyone has mentioned wengers tactics yesterday which for once were excellent. the move to put Diaby and Cesc together in midfield was the right one and EDS did an OK job in his un-natural left wing slot that he is often given. he just got on with it very well.
as for ANC. I think it could be held in the summer providing all the games were played in the evenings (if it was a West African country). 8pm kick offs would be OK. As Toure said, most of the player now want a summer tournament, why doesn’t their opinion count? yes OK it might rain, but you can play in most conditions including heavy rain. I dont know enough about the statistical chances of a truly water logged pitch occuring. if it was a high liklihood then I guess they have no choice but to play in the winter. as someone said earlier, it could alternate between summer and winter, north and south hemisphere.
I feel a bit gutted that the stadiums in Ghana are all half empty or worse. these are players that have been taken away from top prem games and here they are playing to empty stadiums like no one cares. the ANC should have at least made ticket prices affordable for locals – it would have woken the tournament up off the pitch. have to say some of the goals have been fantastic.
a really great w/e for the Gunners. we need to maintain this form now for 4 months but Hleb and Cesc have yet to peak since they returned, so we may be OK to do that.

gazzap: “…but Hleb and Cesc have yet to peak since they returned”
without RvP, Rosicky, Toure, Eboue, Gilberto, Denilson, Djourou, (Diarra)
and with little or no input from Bendtner, Walcott & Traore…..I’d say we’re not doing too badly!
