King Billy – Idol Of The Emirates

If there were any lingering question marks in the minds of the many about how Arsenal would react to pressure, I believe they got their answers yesterday afternoon. Going into the match on the back of two wins, a draw and two defeats in their last five games in all competitions was not ideal. Knowing that their closest rivals had scraped a single goal victory at the home of another rival put them under pressure to get a win. Facing a team who were undefeated in sixteen previous games, a run that included thirteen clean sheets meant that it would not be a straightforward victory, if any win were ever such. The character of the players was under scrutiny and they passed the test, not with flying colours but with enough emphasis to ensure that they should not be doubted in that department.

The record books show a close margin of victory; they would not be wrong in that respect. Arsenal were the better team and whilst there could have been more goals, the truth is that we were at least one goal better than Chelsea. Had anyone asked beforehand for a prediction of a likely goalscorer, William Gallas would have been high up the list, the occasion made for him to reap some revenge on his previous employers, particularly in light of the acrimony surrounding his departure from their services.

Gallas would also be high up on the list for Man of the Match, an award given too lightly in modern times. He led the team well; cajoling and admonishing in equal measure to exhort more effort from his teammates. In keeping with a scrappy match, his goal came from another’s error. Petr Cech will have recurring nightmares about how far away from Fabregas’ tame corner he was; Alex and Lampard will also question why Gallas was allowed to leap unhindered for a simple headed goal. The absence of any players on the posts makes you wonder quite how Chelsea has attained such a high number of clean sheets.

A momentary aberration or an example of lax defending? Who from Arsenal cares? It was enough to seal the victory and return the team to the top of the table. Had Robin van Persie and Cesc Fabregas not been returning from injury then one goal might have been three, the spaces left by the visitors as they pushed forward in search of an equaliser, deserved harsher punishment than they got. Memo to Tomas Rosicky; running ahead of the ball and the last defender equals offside. Memo to Alan Wiley; when a defender puts his arm around a forward’s body, it is a free kick to the attacker or if he wrestles himself free, play the advantage.

Manuel Almunia deserves praise as well. He has learnt from the Middlesbrough game, his solid palm to the Obi Mikel’s shot pushed the ball far enough wide to render anything Shevchenko directed at him as tame. He also made other good saves, a straightforward tip over the bar at the end may seem bread and butter; in the late stages of an important match, they are not. It was a weekend where those who play down his efforts need to re-assess the constant criticism.

Alongside Cech’s howler, I still cannot work out which God van der Sar prays to for he made three clear errors and still got a clean sheet. Reina at the other end of the pitch ought to have stopped the ball reaching Tevez before he scored. Anyone who though that Almunia should have done better with the penalty at Middlesbrough and that Artur Boruc would have saved it needs to see the spot kick he failed to keep out at Inverness this weekend. That is not to say Almunia is the long-term solution. He is improving and may yet prove to be that solution but as much as technique, goalkeeping is a fragile position and all of them ride their luck or are prone to mistakes. The key to it is keeping the fates on your side.

The returnees brought a revived verve to the performance. Mathieu Flamini hustled and bustled; Hleb and Fabregas brought their vision to the game. Their absences highlighted more by their appearances. They were not perfect; no one was particularly in the second half where the ball was treated with as much love and affection as a plague carrier all those centuries ago. The concern for Hleb flared again following Obi Mikel’s challenge but that appears to have been nothing. All showed that their physical fitness is nothing to be concerned about, simply a case of getting their touch back in tune.

John Terry had been reckless and endangered Fabregas minutes earlier; he received a visit from Eboue’s studs as he cleared the ball, following through and kicking the downward trajectory of his boot. Hard to feel any pity for the Chelsea captain as his performance to that point was typically boorish and uncontrolled. Eboue though played well; pushing Chelsea backwards on the right, rendering the Coles not quite ineffective but marginalising them nonetheless. A shame that his injury appears quite serious and looks likely to keep him out for some time.

Up front, Adebayor’s work-rate cannot be faulted. Criticisms of him seem to me at least, wide of the mark. Comparisons to other strikers are also wayward; Torres missed three straightforward chances on Sunday and is presented with as many chances to score yet has not matched Adebayor’s domestic total. It is following a similar pattern to that which he had at Atletico, scoring twenty in all competitions but only around fifteen in the League. We have been spoilt in the past with Henry and are looking for Adebayor to be the same player. He is not nor do I suspect will he ever be. He is more likely to be a twenty goal a season player which if he is partnered with another who reaches the same total, is a good return between them.

A good afternoon’s work, three points achieved and the pressure is returned to United for next week. How many of the team will appear at Blackburn is a moot point. Keeping the key players fit for next weekend is the important issue.

‘til Tomorrow.

Responses

  1. I have read some biased commentaries that Gallas pushed/shoved Ben Haim out of the way in order to win the header that went into the Chelsea’s goal. Having watched the game, I have to say that is really far off the mark. If there was a hand on Ben Haim’s back, it was no more than a gentle touch. Certainly he wasn’t sent flying or tumbling.

  2. Incidentally, Gilberto didn’t do much to provide defensive cover from midfield against the Chelsea onslaught. In fact, he conceded freekicks in areas that were quite dangerous.

  3. In the 2 minutes, we saw of Bendtner, he again showed some great touches and movement. Every time I see him play, he is always so unselfish. He shows maturity beyond his years. There were a few times in other games, where the other players around him fail to pass to him, when he is in a goal-scoring position.
He is going to be some player.
BTW : I watched Carlos Vela in Osasuna’s match against Real Madrid last night. He was head-and-shoulders above anyone else in the Osasuna side.
Can you imagine Vela,Walcott, Bendnter and co. in a few years ??

  4. Another excellent review Yogi both well balanced and on the button. I agree we shaded it and deserved the points. Give Chelsea credit they played very well at times, their one touch passing was equal to ours at times and we were i guess fortunate that Drogba was missing as they lacked that cutting edge. As Flint has already said Almunia was immense and is improving all the time, if he could improve his decision making he could yet be our number one permanately. He and Gallas and Gael i thought were our top men. The players back from injury were a tad off the pace but as Arsene has said they improved our performance from the last couple of games where their loss was very apparant. I didnt feel the Eboue challenge on Terry was quite as bad as the experts have made out certainly not as bad as the Chelsea’s skipper on Cesc. Terry’s behaviour on the pitch seriously needs to be looked at as well as his off the pitch activities, surely we cant have the England captain acting in the way he does. On to Spurs, i just hope we start with RVP alongside Ade as we look so more threatening when he have those two up front.

  5. We showed grit and we also showed style. More importantly, we showed that collectively we are a much tougher unit and cannot be easily bullied like last season. The boys worked hard together and fought hard together. Perhaps Chelski was surprised at our intensity and our desire to carry the fight to Chelski. That’s why you don’t see Lampard. He did not turn up. Maybe he was scared that he might be carried out on a stretcher.

Clichy played a monster blotting out SWP. Eboue was pretty good too, he blunt the Coles double act, and of course, gave JT the shivers. Guess that’s the beginning of the end of JT’s bullying. You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

Great performance overall. Almunia has answered his critics. All our efforts would have meant nothing had he not tipped Shevs freekick at the death. Fabregas played his usual best, which is way better than the entire Chelski midfield. But he must control his emotions better.

Flamini’s intensity and speed would hopefully continue and become legendary for the next few seasons. Gallas? Well what can u say! That’s what we need from a captain after a few seasons under Gandhi!

  6. Veteran, I’m sure all our returnees will start that match. Even though they were a little rusty, it was good to see them and they made a big difference to our overall team play.

It was good to see Terry get punished for that cynical foul on Cesc and even more surprising to hear him being criticised by Hansen on MOTD. Maybe people are finally starting to realise that being England captain does not make him exempt from the rules of fair play.

  7. Veteran

Drogba and Drogba. If Drogba had played? Don’t join Chavs mourners please.

Last year we played at Stamford Bridge without Henry, Gilberto(he was at his peak then) and Gallas and drew with them. Again at Emirates we were without Henry and RvP and drew.

So Veteren, why are you joining the Chavs hype? It shows its a one man team after all.

  8. good points about almunia. he had a great game. flamini, rosicky and clichy to me were the men of the match. hleb looked a bit rusty adn so was cesc.cesc would have definitely scored had he not been returning from injury.same with rvp. a few more games and the team will be firing all cylinders. and btw diarra can leave rather than crib on the bench like lehmann.bendtner to start in the coming few weeks.his first touch is defo better than ade.

  9. Great blog today.

Incidentally, there is absolutely no doubt that Gallas had a wee push on Ben Haim before his goal, and one that gave him a slight advantage. I’m quite sure it was a foul. It’s ok to admit it. It balances out our second disallowed goal anyway.

  10. It was a touch that you see all the time in these situations. To give a foul for that would’ve been criminal.

  11. Great win. We needed to after Man U had won. The jammy cunts. On chances we just about shaded it. Granted they had a few and SWP should have scored but our defence was good and we restricted their play. Fat Frank did fuck all in my opinion and Cesc who just returned from injury was more influential. But he did have players like Hleb and Rosicky (who was great)to assist where Obi and Makelele didnt offer much going forward. But i suppose Rosicky and Flamini did some great work going back tracking runs etc. Great midfield display all round from the lads. Ade did well and was robbed of a goal. His hold up play was good and he didnt misplace too many passes, there was a few times when the move broke down or lost pace because of Ade, but not too many. The back four are proving a very consistant unit, which we havent had for a few seasons now. Great to see VanP back and we look more dangerous up front it him there. Hes got class stamped all over his play. Not with that finish though but hes rusty …
Almunia did ok again i have to say. While hes not at the level of Cech he didnt make a howler that turned out to cost his side the game. He delt with what chelski sent his way. So unless Fabianski turns out to be the top class keeper we need/want – Wenger certainly rates him – Jens will be off and we would still need a keeper. I cant see enything happening on that front untill next season though, so Almunia should have our full support.

Back to the top of the table. Lets hope it lasts through to may….

  12. Great post YW.

We were also without Kolo at the Bridge, last season.

Terry’s lunge at Cesc, was a cynical intention to injure a key rival player. Having now seen the replay it was a clear straight red.

There were some feisty challenges from both sides with 1 or 2 lucky to stay on the pitch. Mikel certainly, a lovely talent, but a vicious nut case, did more than enough to earn more yellows than he got.

Certainly nothing wrong with Ade’s ‘goal’. Mr Wiley had a difficult game & got a few things wrong.

I cannot understand why Ade is getting criticism. Maybe you don’t see his off the ball running on tv. He is 90min player, quick, links play tremendously well at times. Those who complain about his passing should realise that he is often trying the very difficult maneuvers that look easy in the stands.

Yes he looks awkward & needs composure but he is a constant threat, all game, so that the opposition are usually opened up late on.

Bentner, at this moment in time, is not as mobile & cannot give that 90mins. He is an excellent prospect & should get a few starts, but he can contribute best as a late sub, certainly in the big games.

Eboue had an effective game. His challenge on Terry looked a 50/50 at the game but you can’t really see what happened in the replays, I have seen. We shall miss him more than than we realise.

  13. Goodish post Yogi….eclipsed however by some headline. It’s been a while since you’ve had one but that’s up there with any this season (you can tell which Newspapers I pick up first)

I am in complete agreement with regards to the ineptitude of the match officials. Who unsurprisingly were praised by the Sky team. They allowed the England lads to gain their ear before going on to repeatedly foul our players in the first half. On another day Lampard, Mikel and Terry could have easily picked up two yellows.

What is infuriating is when Gallas or Toure try and have a word with the ref, the Sky commentators go completely overboard on them. Marking them as troublemakers, yet it is clear, it is the England players who are no angels and abuse their status.

As for Fabregas on Ashley at the end, he got booked for it, which he deserved. Maybe it is to much credit to Fab to say it was a pre-meditated attack, could simply be that having spurned another chance he made a frustrated reckless challenge. I’m going to have to give him the credit though!

Ade’s disallowed goal was of course wrongly marked off. Had it not been, his performance would have been rightly lauded! He was excellent!

  14. 15. I slagged Al off on my site in the week, but I was quite happy to eat humble pie yesterday afternoon. He made some great saves and played a bit of a blinder. Who’d want Cech eh (Tongue in cheek!)?

Eboue showed his worth to the team! Everyone needs a dirty player who everyone hates! Eboue Savage I shall rename him! He was pretty crap otherwise, but better than usual! Do you think he was really injured, or do you think it was theatrics gone to far? I think the Eboue foul on JT is being overplayed, it was no where near as bad as some of the Mikel fouls, or the JT one on Fab.

Cole V signed the fans, so a nice little ban should cap off a truly horrible return to Arsenal for the greedy little shit bag.

So, top of the league still! Lets hope we beat the scum next Saturday and the kids deal with a very deflated Crapburn Rovers!

  16. Agree a little more than usual Flint!!

Ade is rightly loved by the our attending fans and you undoubtedly do realise he never stops running when you see him in the flesh.

I urge any doubters, get yourself on a few dodgy away trip!

  17. danny .. the Sky team are sooooo biased towards the English players that it is unreal .. Joe Cole did one of his master dives .. I reckon he has a secret fetish for Ronaldo .. and got hardly blamed for it .. had this been Eboue on the other hand ..
also when Fat Lampard fouled Eboue in the 1st half and got no yellow for it, the entire Shiit team lashed on to Eboue saying that he had played for the tackle .. crazy .. no words either from our pundits on Cole’s foul on Eboue .. and I reckon that his early game knock in Sagna’s face could have been a tit premeditated
what about Terry’s foul on Eboue?? no comments again
its ridiculous, but long may it continue as the “golden generation” of English football will remain rotten in mediocrity..having said that, they can now enjoy a few more pissing sessions in lapdancing clubs under the guidance of cheerleader Terry

  18. I’m so happy. I was not fortunate enough to be there yesterday so would just like to thank all the hard working fans for making Cash Moneys time on the ball as unpleasant as possible. How is it possible to have such a collection of complete c*nts in one team at one time?

  19. Pedro –
early reports have eboue being out for a long period.
So already i have some question marks over who will replace him ?! Theo hopefully and i’m sure wenger will also play dudu out of position (RW)for cover too .

Also something that no one has mentioned but really p***** me off was cashley cole appearing to strangle fabregas in the dieing seconds of the game ..
A foul is a foul but surely the ref should of implemented a card ? or 2 cards .. As that action wasn’t a professional foul :) it looked like straight up malice to me …

    flint
ade is getting criticism because with the amount of chances that our creative department creates , he should of been more like 15 or 20 +goals by now ..
he has 9 goals in 22 odd appearances 3 scored against a championship side (derby).. and 2 against another minnow team .. When you factor
another was a penalty , And that leaves you with about 3 goals in 19 odd games when he has the best creative midfield in the league spooning him
great ! great ! leads CONSTANTLY ,in fact i will go as far as saying the ‘best midfield in the world’ (on form currently) . He should be converting far more chances and you will see in the coming weeks what RVP will do with those leads !

And yes he’s a big psychical threat but if you cant make conversions what good are you on the pitch ?
Bentner for his limited minutes has far more vision and technical skill and the lad is 19 !!
I hate to see him stunted by someone who is too frivolous with the great chances he’s consistantly
given by our creative midfield .

  20. and another RE: to ade !
i dont care if he runs all week , when he has the ball at his feet HE FAILS TO CONVERT AND pass off when the run drys up , simply spilling possession and hurting our possession game ! I can see him running
in fact he clocked over 11 km ( but not sure you could get facts like that at the game) … 11 kms wasted if you ask me ..

Then at 77 minutes enter 1 RVP ! and he turned the game on its f###ing head ! He made what ade had been doing for the past 77 minutes a godamm joke ! he fired 3 bullets off in under 90 seconds , all on target and im sure ade didn’t get 3 off the whole game ! And definitely not on target

Some people need to look at the stats and the facts ! not just vote for the popular kid !

  21. Excellent insight. You ought to write for SI. Arsenal will always be victorious because they have the blessing of God Almighty, never forget that.

  22. it was really a great match, though a sympathies with my Chelsea friends here in Nigeria, but my advice for them is to stop putting the blaming on Drogba’s absence and accept the fact that Arsenal still and will remain the better side. we are strong and we don’t make noise about it. I want to Congratulate with all my Gunners Brothers for such a victory and pray for more of that. cheers

  23. GUNNER 4 LIFE.

Cheers to all my Gunners brother.

    congrats once again.

  24. ok guys did u see what fabregas did to cashley call? that was for the funs and showed that boy has Arsenal written all over his skin and please who sees a Gattuso in our Flamini? He is going to be a massive player that one. he has it all spirit, will and fire in his veins and yes he is a great organiser something we missed when he was away, Now for Bendtner Mr the God Wenger play that boy more we have a gem yet again. He knows how to use the ball and when he has all the confidence of other players we shall see him score more and yes i am tired of Ade spoiling the Attack. he is a great bully for defenders upfront but he tends to switch off during an attack and squanders alot of opportunities, i also loved what Eboue did to JT coz he really warranted it after that bad studd showing on Fabregas’ face. Again Fabregas has Arsenal written all over him did u see the passion when he found out the match had ended? He is massive. My Captain Gallas the great u shall Rule. The rest of the team was Massive not to say Rosicky talked oh how he waited for this game and indeed showed he wanted to get this win for us
it was a sweet sunday i say

  25. you could see that JT and Eboue coming together happening from a mile off. they steaming towards each other at full pace, something had to give – and it was JT’s ankle, great! he deserved it after what he had done to Cesc. Eboue did well.
nor a lot was said about Joe Cole’s dirty challenge on Eboue that has put him out of our team for a couple of months. Its now unlikely he will go to the African Nations. Shame for him.

Joe Cole also dived in the first half – again not shown by the BBC. Mind you I loved the free kick from fat frank which ended up virtually outside the stadium!
Later Lampard took out one of our ball boys for taking a while to get the ball back. twat.

Cashley got what he deserved and although I dont think he should get a ban for the V sign, I would laugh if he did.
I knew the chavs would play on when Flamini was down injured. its just their style to do that. Arsenal ALWAYS kick the ball out – its the right thing to do whatever the ref has seen or not seen.

Alex and Ben Haim looked dodgy to me. Hopefully they will let in a few while Pikey and Captain chav are injured.
How the ref disallowed Ade’s goal is beyond me, but by that point I was resigned to the fact that Wiley would give every decision to them. it was so one sided, but I guess again on the TV they try to gloss over it. Maybe he was trying to even out the push he DID see on Ben haim for our goal or maybe he got fed up of french speakers in his ear and much preffered the English boys whining.

Possibly only Bendtner from yesterday will play at Blackburn. I sincerely hope Diarra and Gilberto dont play together again otherwise we are heading out of the CC.

  26. Yes praise the lord ! …????

Why has everything all of a
    sudden got very religious ?

  27. People still critiscising Ade?

Someone called it earlier, if his goal had (rightly) stood, you would all be saying how well he played!

It was great to see us stand up to the physical challenge, the team is developing well – we probably wouldnt of won this game last year.

Good to have everyone back too.

And John Terry – England Captain?

Im afraid it sums up all that is wrong with the current English Chav culture – the guy is a thug, pure and simple.

And i am no fan of Almunia, but hats off to him for yesterdays performance, excellent.

  28. Another great post, balanced and reasoned even for a gooner :-) That’s all I ask for. Looking ahead, Wenger may or may not have a problem with team selection. This depends on your point of view. With the top players returning from injury and Eboue out injured, the 1st team appears to be a simple proposition; Ade, Van P, Rosicky, Fab, Flam, Hleb, Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy & Almunia. May I suggest that while this is a very offensive oriented team it lacks defensive solidity. The stats don’t lie; our 14 goals against is the highest among the so-called big-4. The fact that Man U has only conceded 8 goals and scored 30 shows the challenge we face in the run-in to to the title. The silent statistical world is not as loud and emotional as those pounding the table for a purely offensive formation. Mark my words we face a dilemma.

  29. shotta, we have played the 4-5-1 most of the season and yet we have conceded 14 goals. how much more defensive do you want us to go?
you have it wrong, man u play an attacking 4-4-2 and only conceded few goals becasue they are so devastating going forward. teams that are brilliant on the attack never allow the other team to attack them because they are pinned back the whole game. We need the 4-4-2 to score goals and keep clean sheets.

Its important that Arsenal score lots of goals because you can never guarentee a clean sheet. freekicks and corners can always lead to a goal for the other team. we need to be sure we can score 2 if the oppositon get 1.

  30. Gunners,

Why are we getting wound up when we criticize some players? Do’nt mean we love them any less! Just that we want some part of their game to improve! I hope that they read these blogs or at least their agents or even AW!

Clearly Alumina did very well yesterday. All he has to improve now is ..em.. ground shots and he will be my hero. Am sure even Howard’s?

Ade is no doubt a hard worker but still has to improve his shooting and passing. That’s a fact. Anyone noticed that AW started with a 4-5-1 and later 4-4-2, with RvP on? That, along with Chavs desperation to score could well explain the increased attempts on goal. RvP has often disappeared on our earlier fixtures when he played as a lone striker.

But take nothing away from RVP, he is a class act!

  31. on another note – diarra wanting to leave

I was one of a number of people who had rated lassan diarra highly after his first few matches at arsenal- now i think he is a spoilt little sh1T……..

he said he was”fed up with playing low key’ games”

is he having a laugh?..villa,newcastle and middlesbrough away not important enough…those 3 points are as valuable as any against man u or chelsea…and he played more or less 4 crucial premier league games in a row…in none of which he convinced anyone he is better than flamini in that position…but instead of working harder and biding his time he wants to leave cos his names not automatically on the team sheet….seems everyone thinks they’re too good nowadays

he oughtaa apologise if its a ‘mistranslation ‘ from l’equipe…otherwise he should be sold asap

  32. confidentgoner
“Anyone noticed that AW started with a 4-5-1 and later 4-4-2, with RvP on?”

no no, I think you are the only one who noticed that.

I think Diarra is highly disrespectful by saying those away games were low key. if he took that attitude into them no wonder he put in average performances. its not the sort of attitude we need from our players.

  33. Howard and Passenal dont worry im not joining the Chavs hype. Your absolutely correct every club has to cope with losing key players, we certainly had to last season when Henry was missing for so long. I just like to give a balanced view and because i dont want to be biased i go slightly the other way and give our opposition more praise than they deserve. To be honest i think we would have beaten them anyway with Drogba included.

  34. The morons are after Adebayor again. What will the poor guy ever do to convince them? Nothing I suspect.

Can you imagine some reptile saying 9 goals is not enough, he should have scored 15. Oh my? The same morons who drool over strikers in other clubs?

It’s clear that if Ade had 15 goals, they would say he hould have scored 20 by now.

That’s the problem with the internet. Too many people get a platform to demonstrate their stupidity.

  35. I dont think you can simply ignore the fact that Drogba was injured. I totally agree that yes every season every club can virtually expect key players to be injured for some period. Arsenal have suffered from this more than any of the other top four clubs in recent seasons – and no, nobody gave us any sympathy. However, whether key players are in the team or not in the team DOES affect how well the team plays and it does affect results.
we simply dont know what the score would have been had Drogba played yesterday but its a moot point really. but dont tell me you’d rather have seen him in their team because I wont believe you!

Ronaldo may or may not get injured this season. if he picks up a bad injury next week Man u could then lose several games in his absence and hand us the title. you then cant say the injury to Ronaldo did not affect them. we can certainly claim that injuries made us weak at Middlesbrough, if nothing else but because the same players had to play 2 games 3 days apart.

But yes I agree you have to expect injuries and be as strong as you can when they come along.

  36. Hear hear Ole Gunner. Time should improve Ade’s efficiency. Truth is in his head he’s more a 10 than a 9 who is a tad more dependent on his physical skills than his mind. AW will work him a lot harder on the mental/efficiency part of his game over time but for now his work rate (& occasional brilliance) is so essential to the team’s balance. Bottom line is Emmanuel Adebayor is as important to Arsenal as every other first teamer. Bendtner off the bench will make his mark too for sure. Remember RvP used to come off the bench himself.
    Patience to all the doubters!

  37. gazzap

I can hear the undertones . but im not really interested in ball boys or shots that go into the car park . Id rather see every second of the game perfectly on my 44 inch wide screen sony bravia !
post match interviews full stats on screen including the yellow card count of 4 yellows to Chelsea and 3 yellows to arsenal , so really if the ref was really that bias i’m sure the count would have been the other way around.. If you watched the Liverpool v manure game prior (which you obviously didn’t )
It seemed to me the ref tried to keep the game flowing , and as our guys are clean players we don’t draw the contact like the diving chev’s do !
i did also see the dive with cole .. as i have ESPN coverage ! and for ade’s 11.7 km traveled in his time on the pitch i think it was pretty wasteful ..

That was until RVP entered the game !
Id rather hear the commentary than consistent boo’ing of cashley cole .. It was shameful ..

mildly amusing at the start but f###ing annoying at the end of it ! They should of boo’ed ade for not scoring in 90 minutes as the lone striker ! Feed pass after pass only to f### it up and spill possession.. Maybe the goal should of counted but you couldn’t blame the ref , he obviously conferred with his linesman !

And you’ve forgotten what its like to be on the top of the EPL ladder , get used to more bias ref’s in the future . 1 thing I’ve learned is that a NEUTRAL
will always barrack for the underdog !

  38. Diarra got a genuine issue, albeit not with us .. rather France
he is ahead of Flamini in their pecking order for a central midfield spot, but .. if Flamini keeps performing for us, he will get a chance to prove himself in the French squad.. the fact that he just got called up for their last game is a sign in that direction
now this would mean that unless Diarra plays, he runs the risk of losing his rank
thats why he’s so keen on playing..dont forget that there is a European Championship round the corner
you must feel some sympathy for him, especially as he was drafted in and must have been given some assurance as to games, etc..
this doesnt make the man a bad person .. he is ambitious and is young and very very decent player
why Gilberto was on the bench and not him is a mystery to me .. anytime Gilberto comes on these days, he looks more and more like Senderos .. a permanent liability
the same is happening with Diaby .. these guys are at an age where they have to play
its only natural that they get frustrated as there talent is obvious and there to be developed

  39. ethan

I’m with you on Ade. I don’t care what Ade praise singers are saying. Ade sometimes plays like a spanner thrown in a circlying object.

Ade still has a lot to improve, his passing, first touch and decision making is so poor and these are areas Bendtner is far ahead.

Yesterday I saw him attempt 10 headings and won only 2.

Arsene is considering Benzema (I watched him in the Lyon/Rangers CL match and he was superb) so Ade should start correcting his inabilities he’ll find himself in the same situation like Gilberto, falling beneath Bendtner.

Almunia won us first 3 points and I’m very grateful. If he can work on his weakness in low balls then we might not need a socalled world class GK.

We can’t rely on Ade and he’s began to develop selfishness in his play and arrogance too. Petty disagreements with team mates on the field of play and talking himself up in the press.

  40. Aman
i don’t doubt that ade will come good !
    but currently
DO YOU WANT TO WIN GAMES OR NOT ?
The table is too tight !!! Follow common sense not
    your heart !
If we keep starting with a guy who’s scored 9 goals in 20+ appearances (6 GOALS WHERE IN 3 GAMES AGAINST EASY BEATS ) so that leaves you with 3 goals in 19 games .. good average !!!

Fabregas is clubs top scorer with 11 goals and has been injured ! Its a sad day when your strikers aren’t the clubs top scorers ! At this level !

And with the service he gets from our midfeild the guy should be lighting up the back of the net every game !

I think in 1 or 2 years ade will be a excellent player .
but we cannot afford to keep giving him a run if he isn’t preforming !
We are not in the transition phase anymore !
We are the EPL leaderboard No.1 ’s !
and if you cannot bring your ‘A’ Game to the field week in week out , get on the bench ! you need to score no excuses, and just strong arming the defense inst enough .. and besides he isnt strong, just tall .

    but so is ….

Bentner,he is a far better player with TONNES ! more potential ! TONNES ! at 19!!! 4 years younger than ade and similar build ,similar level but with much more technical smarts , and he has a passing game that doesn’t include coughing up the ball ,great vision as he showed against steaua ,it makes sense to give the guy a run ! with RVP !

  41. Oh here we go again!!!!!!!

If we get to discount Adebayor’s three goals against Derby then we’d also discount all the goals scored in the league against Derby, and place them at top spot in the league!!

I mean, how stupid do you have to get? Fernando Torres who you all go on and on about has 5 goals in the league, two of which were against Derby. I don’t see any of you reptiles writing him off.

Wayne Rooney, Drogba (1 goal), have all played Derby and did not get hat tricks against them.

Go check out all the stats. They prove Adebayor is the best striker in the Premier League. His shots to goals record is right up there with everyone else. When we had 4 away games on the trot (Reading, Villa, N’castle and Boro) Adebayor scored three goals to help keep us top.

You guys are really quite stupid. It’s not like he’s the best striker in th world. The fact is that he is playing very well and performing on the pitch despite his awkwardness and lack of calmness.

I am happy none of you guys is the Manager. With such words of wisdom such as proposing to bench the league’s top scorer in favour of a 19 year old who is yet to score in the league.

Well opinions are like Arseholes. Everyone’s got one.

  42. ethan – the only reason chelsea had more cards than us was because the whole game they were a dirty bunch of cheating a*seholes. we on the other hand had yellows dished out for just looking at the ref in the wrong way – he kept doing that thing where he points all over the pitch as if to say, ‘Yes I know this foul wasn’t actually worth a yellow but I am going to make it look on TV as if you have been fouling all game’, which was a load of boll*cks because some of those he booked had not made any fouls previously. Furthermore, when small teams play us, they foul us consistently for 90 minutes and often quite cynically when we are on the attack and I rarely see yellow cards dished out for regular fouling AGAINST us.
Chelsea seriously could have finished the game with 9 men and 8 yellows whereas we can count ourselves unlucky to even get a single booking. sure I have red coloured specs on but Chelsea were by far the worst offenders throughout.

  43. Howard ..

SPOT ON ! you even touched on issues from an angle i hadn’t thought about ..

He is getting like a mini TH14 .. The problem is he just cant beat a single player ! its woeful ..
The typical ade goal is him poaching inside the box . And when your playing a lone striker you really have to be able to beat defenders MOST of the time (as your double teamed).. Or have to possess a good long shot .. He doesn’t have either yet .. Its madness to play him , but arsene is light-on in this area .. But with bentner turning good and RVP back , i hope we will see him pushed down a peg or 2 , and it will fall on his shoulders then to prove his bacon !

His Newcastle goal was a touch of brilliance , but
we cant wait week in week out for that freak of nature to re-occur ! Because since that goal he has looked like a new recruit who isn’t up to speed with arsenals game plan ! . Losing possession with stark regularity , it makes our midfield look like a gold mine with no miners !

And Almunia did really well ! game of the season so far from him ! Id like to see him lift his game
to a level that secures him from 2nd choice again ,
or at least until fabianski is ready for the 1st team .
I feel arsene is just playing him because he has no one else better however .. And we all know your going to concede at some stage, and i think when he has a shocker ,arsene will make him pay!

It up to him to prove arsene wrong , and personally if he played like he did against the chev’s on Sunday , i’m more than happy to see him stick around for good ! ..

But you know something deep down tells me arsene doesn’t see it like me ! He’s like 50 % of the people on this blog.. HANG HIM NOW !
Most goalies don’t mature until late .. Well he cant be doing too badly as we are on top of the EPL table. I mean even i am 50/50 on the goalie scenario , but i’m slowly coming around . As he isn’t bad !

  44. Jesus, what drivel.

He has proven his bacon. 3 goals in four difficult away games proves just that. 9 goals in the league and all the stats prove it.

Arsene Wenger has shown ZERO doubt about Ade’s effectiveness hence his starting every game he’s been fit for.

The people who don’t get it just won’t get it. We’ll just be glad they’re not the manager.

Funny thing was I was watching the Chelski game on Sky Italy and the commentators were gushing all over Adebayor’s movement, his timing and his passing. The idiots back home get stuck in an echo chamber and they start loving the sound of their own whiny voices.

Almunia: This weekend I saw Van Der Sar and Reina make multiple mistakes compared to Almunia. At the end of the weekend, we still hear Arsenal players moaning about their man.

I can’t stand some of my fellow fans. These were the same guys who moaned all summer about how Arsene was about to bring the club down.

  45. Ole Gunner, it is useless trying to argue logically with those who have pre-conceived biases and prejuidices against certain players. Figures don’t lie, liars figure. The silent statistical world has proven all the doubters of Ade (Hleb, Almunia and Eboue for that matter) to be wrong at every stage of the season. As you noted Ade’s conversion ratio is as high, if not better than any of the main strikers in the EPL. Yesterday he had a perfectly good goal cancelled by a picky ref who failed to recognize that Ade had every right to untangle himself from an assault by Ben Haim. Cech was truly beaten. But Ade brings more to the table than goal-scoring; his hold-up play, his passing and his speed is amazing for a gangling big man . No wonder opposing defenders (Terry included) give him so much props. Yet the crazies on this board continue to slate him.
Gazzap: I take your point that ManU best defence is attack but I am not sure that we have as sound a defensive platform. Yesterday they had two holding midfielders, Hargreaves and Anderson together with the back four. Apart from Flamini, who can we count on to sit back and mop-up things? Gilberto? Diarra? Denilson? Would you play any of the three ahead of Rosicky or Hleb?

  46. Gazzup i agree 150% !
But arsene coaches a beautiful free flowing passing game, which chelsea , through lack of skill to compete , has to resort to a physical pummeling approach to disrupt our game. Our club are quick enough to avoid the contact 90 % of the time, not preempt it.. So we don’t win the sympathy vote … Plus fabregas needs to focus, instead of complain , he will gain a reputation which will stick with him , and it wont fair well for calls going his way in the future ..

Also not sure how close you were to the action or if you saw replays but in the 1st half fabregas had some rather stern words to the ref ,which appeared to resemble swearing! im sure he wont be getting a Christmas card ( it was the lampard tussle) .In which i think flamini got booked? But from that moment on we didn’t get many calls go our way..

Wright – Phillips looked their most dangerous player . I cannot fathom why they took him off !
But him and terry coming off made my day !

Hey did you see that new fifa electronic linesman ball ? They put sensors within the ball lining and sensors around the outside of the pitch and they demonstrated it , and it looked really cool .. they said it will be in operation within the year . It will flash on a hand held devise if the ball goes out of play .. or rolls past the goal line ..

  47. shotta I still dont see the difference between Man U’s 4-4-2 and ours. For Hargreaves and Anderson read Flam and Cesc. Cesc does plenty of defensive work in most games and is tougher than given credit for. I’d rather have flam and cesc than Anderson and Hargreaves anyday.
then wingers Giggs and Ronaldo read rosicky and Hleb then Strikers Rooney and Tevez, RVP and Ade. If anything I think our strikers are better balanced than Man u’s. I dont see how they are better defensively when we both line up with the 4-4-2.
you can argue that their back 4 is simply better than ours, but I dont really think it is either. about equal I would say.

I think Ade is fine in the team as long as he has RVP. you see when Ade wins the long balls he then invariably is no longer the furthest man forward since midifelders go beyond him. While RVP has been out, Ade has not had an outlet for a forward pass. Wenger did not trust another striker to come in so he went 4-5-1 instead and we lost something in the final third. now RVP is back I expect our cutting edge to return and Ade will look as if he is playing better and may even score more goals, when he gets the return passes from RVP.

  48. ole gunner

You guys are really quite stupid. It’s not like he’s the best striker in th world. The fact is that he is playing very well and performing on the pitch despite his awkwardness and lack of calmness.

Fact is its unacceptable with all the creative power we have driving this team !!! a striker like him , with the backing he has ,Should be scoring MORE than 9 !
And what makes matters worse 2 of the 22 games
he scored 5 goals in ! the other was a penalty !
which means he scored 3 goals from his own creative juices ! in 19 OUTINGS !

If you don’t see a problem with that at the top level your blind ! I could score 9 goals with hleb
cesc and flamini serving me up the creativity they are providing !

When was the last time you saw him beat a player and score?

Even the volley he did against Newcastle was served up to him on a silver platter , i don’t even think he moved one step the pass was so pin point accurate .. But who gets the credit ??

    SHOTTA
As you noted Ade’s conversion ratio is as high, if not better than any of the main strikers in the EPL.

well you would think so considering we are on top of the ladder due to great work in the midfield ..
But his 1st touch is crap and for a big man he loses the ball too much ! and can do far better .
Lets see if ade is the club top scorer come end of the season !!!! ANY WAGERS ?? !!
my money is on RVP who is on 7 !!! and he’s been injured 1/2 the year !!! yes figures dont lie !!!

And also shows you what a real striker can do with
a highly organized ,creative midfield behind him ! HE CAN DO MUCH MUCH BETTER !!.. and its disciples like you that only add to his ego !

If your Italians were praising ade , i’m not sure what game they were watching . because all i saw
was selfish driving into space , only to be mugged by the defenders and lose the ball cheaply ! And that was a good game for him , the middlesboro game , he should of put on one of there shirts because he pasted more to them than us !!!

watch the game with your eyes nexttime F### ME!

  49. ole

He has proven his bacon. 3 goals in four difficult away games proves just that. 9 goals in the league and all the stats prove it.

difficult? Seville yes .. of course they are class !
top 16 in the world ( top 8 in fact) !
But do you class a struggling Newcastle or a 11 games with no win’s Middlesboro tough ?

Well going on your theories we should be relegated or in the bottom 1/2 of the table !
Im simply saying ade should be doing better with what he is getting served up !

Cant you see that ? He shoots worse than reyes !

  50. ***Fact is its unacceptable with all the creative power we have driving this team !!! a striker like him , with the backing he has ,Should be scoring MORE than 9 !
And what makes matters worse 2 of the 22 games
he scored 5 goals in ! the other was a penalty !
which means he scored 3 goals from his own creative juices ! in 19 OUTINGS !
If you don’t see a problem with that at the top level your blind ! I could score 9 goals with hleb
cesc and flamini serving me up the creativity they are providing !***

The answer to that is simple:

1.How many Arsenal players at this time of the season in past seasons had 9 goals at this point in the season?
    2. How many strikers in the league with “creative juices” have scored 9 goals you idiot? They have all played Derby, and Tottenham you halfwit.
    3. Why 15 goals? Why not 30? I might as well pull out the figure 30 out of my arse and say unless Messi or Drogba or Ronaldo score that many by this stage in the season, they are utter failures.

*****When was the last time you saw him beat a player and score?****

The stupidity of that statement is self evident so I’ll just shut up and let you rant. Seems to me the irrational virulence of your comments that the guy shagged your girl or something.

****If your Italians were praising ade , i’m not sure what game they were watching . because all i saw
was selfish driving into space , only to be mugged by the defenders and lose the ball cheaply ! And that was a good game for him , the middlesboro game , he should of put on one of there shirts because he pasted more to them than us !!!******

You must have been spaced out during the game. Not only did he put the ball in the back of the net. He made three excellent chances:

    1. The one RVP skied. If that had been Ade your blood would have boiled over by now. Ade got the ball, drove forward 20 yards, and then picked the perfect pass the Hleb who squared to RVP. Did you see that?

    2. The one in which Rosicky heads to him, he drives forward 10 yards, and at the perfect moment passed to Rosicky who squared to RVP to score the disallowed goal? Did you see that?

    3. The one in which he gets the ball wide, cuts into the man, and finds Cesc who knocks it back to RVP whose shot is stopped by Cech, and then Cesc misses the sitter? Did you see that?

Just when was he being mugged and giving the ball away. Time to get specific?

    Oh wait…it did not happen!!

Just shut up for Crissakes…You’ve got no fucking point. Not even 1/100th of 0.001% of a point.

Can he do much better? Sure!!! Is he a perfect striker? NO!!! Has he done very very well playing as lone striker most of the time? YES, you bet.

    Now go get a life.

If your complaint was his growing ego I’ll back you up. I saw the game against Newcastle, where with us 1-0 up he had the ball, with Eduardo free in the middle, he touched the ball 4 times rather than pass for what would have been a sure goal. I blame him for the 2 points dropped there.

But to keep going on about how horribly he is doing despite the CLEAR EVIDENCE that he has the best striking record in the Premier League this season? Come on!

  51. thats just ridiculous. he is far better than Reyes. he was knackered at Boro and should never have played in that game when Bendner was sat there fresh as a daisy.
Bendtner will get his time to be first choice but I dont think it will be this season. for now we have Ade, and I can promise you he will look better with RVP next to him.

  52. ole
    your a git !
no point wasting time on you ..
buy some vasoline and search the
    web for his picture ..

    say no more !

  53. Less of the in fighting lads!
Anyone watch Carlos Vela last night? (Apparently Arsenal missed it, quoting Arsenal.com”Carlos Vela
Real Madrid 2-0 Osasuna, December 16
Carlos Vela was an unused substitute for Osasuna as they travelled to the Bernabeau to face league leaders Real Madrid”.)

He certainly wasn’t an unused sub. He was Osasuna’s best player by a mile and on one occasion made a complete tit out of Ramos (Watch out for it on showboat!). Only 18 too. Look forward to seeing him next year.

  54. Not sure what all this fuss is about Adebayor’s first touch. The 3rd goal at tottenham, can’t remember if he juggles on his left or right before smashing it in. Similar quality at Newcastle, where he sets it up for a volley before smashing it in. Also recall him chesting the ball perfectly yesterday from a quickly delivered ball from the Arsenal defence. If anything, his hold up and lay off play seems to be a strength.

  55. Gazzap I agree with you that Ade and RVP starting will do fine it needs the 2 together, and with Bentdner to come on after 60 minutes.

Incidentally what Diarrah complained about mainly that he played in the CC and insignificant Champions league games like the one with Steau, and that he wanted to play in Euro 08 and he needed to play in big matches.

Vela was good last night and they had to foul him several times to stop him, he is playing left wing which is where we have been screaming about buying someone, he will fit the bill once he gets used to the EPL

  56. To all Ade’s “demolishion sqaud”…the fact is Ade is going no where and we like him.

The same stats you’re using defeats you argument. The fact that he is still one of the top league scorers means that no other striker in the league scored more…so why don’t I see you all attacking them the same way you attack Ade?

It is so obvious that some people will never be happy with anything, and we have to put up with those people.

We still beat the crap out of Chelski, it makes me want to watch the game for the 300 time.

    G4E

  57. Adebayor is only 23. Ian Wright was still playing park football at that age and Thierry Henry looked more suited to doing Sudukos. Lay off the man.

  58. i will answer your F###ed up questions !
but after this i hope you just point your anger in another direction , so shall we begin and see who’s the stupid one?

1.How many Arsenal players at this time of the season in past seasons had 9 goals at this point in the season?
HENRY ! REGULARLY top epl goal scorer for years running !
    2. How many strikers in the league with “creative juices” have scored 9 goals you idiot? They have all played Derby, and Tottenham you halfwit.

-YAKUBU ! HALFWIT IDIOT ! and the everton midfield blows ! Also RONALDO you stupid crack whore! as he plays on the right of a man’ure 3-3-4

    3. Why 15 goals? Why not 30? I might as well pull out the figure 30 out of my arse

-YES YOU MIGHT AS WELL ! SO FAR ITS WORKING WELL VERBALLY !
and say unless Messi or Drogba or Ronaldo score that many by this stage in the season, they are utter failures.
15 ‘CAUSE EVEN A BUMBLING IDIOT LIKE HIM
WITH THE SERVICE HE GETS SHOULD NET MORE !
    —————————————————-
you started babbling after that .. don’t let your insecurities cloud your judgment ! He coughs the ball up every time he gets it watch a re-run of the Middlesboro game , you’ll get the point .. TO BE SPECIFIC !
    actually you probably wont !

    Also dont be rude !
    cause paybacks a bitch !!!
No need to reply .. cause you !, like danny are on my NO READ LIST ! you RUDE F##### !

but do not underestimate our midfield they are of the highest quality ~ ! Cesc has 11 And if he wasn’t missing for 3 games he would have more !
    That exceeds ade’s number 11 beats 9 !
and thats woeful when your midfielders can score more than a striker ! ITS UNNATURAL ! It shows you how much faith he has in ade , when he prefers to have a go himself in lieu of passing off to his striker !

your a rude little tosser and tone it down if you wish to talk to me ! Im here to talk football opinions. Not get personal with losers !
    blind losers

  59. Dublgun

bentners 19 and ade’s 23 with about the same potential .infact thats BS! bentner has a far better all round game !. who would you rather invest in ??

  60. Both Ethan, invest in both…not kill one, and keep one. Bendtner showed us at the start of the season “I play or I go” kind of attitude, that doesn’t make you all the comfortable with him.

So I would keep both, Ade still has far much better experience as a player…played some in France, for his country and for Arsenal.

  61. Ethan you’re a child….you could go with an empathy angle, cause acting the father-figure probably ain’t gonna work out!

    Good luck with that!

  62. Ole gunner, save your breath and your blood pressure! If some are too blind to see Ade’s qualities and what he brings to this team despite all the evidence to the contrary, you’ll never convince them.

Also, I don’t see why it has to be either or with Ade and Bendtner. We saw the problems which arise when you depend on only one striker (TH). They will both have their opportunities to shine over the course of a season and Bendtner is still learning. He has always looked best when he comes on late against tired defenders. He is still developing the skills and experience to do the same for 90 minutes, so we shouldn’t over-hype him and then slag him off if he fails to deliver on those unrealistic expectations.

  63. For all you Ade detractors i can assure you he is one of the most technical gifted players at the club and one of the first names Arsene puts on the team sheet. I would admit he is not the finished article yet but i am certain if we were to put him up for sale(not that we would)there would be a host of top clubs wanting to buy him for top money. There are too many top defenders ie. Ferdinand-Terry who hate to play against him which tells you something about the guy. To want him out of the team is madness, and i am certain now that RVP is back you will see him at his best. I agree with you he will do the daft thing from time to time, but so do a lot of other players. He does need to improve on certain things, but as i say he has the ability to be one of the best strikers in the EPL.

  64. This ethan guy is one reason to ban the internet if dudes like these get to make stupid half-witted comments all over the place.

Christiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres,

What do they all have in common? They’ve not scored more goals than Adebayor in the league. Not a bad position for a striker to be in if you ask me.

You’re extremely ignorant. Bendtner is a fantastic player, who will be important for Arsenal if he keeps his head and reins in the arrogance which puts him at odds with the entire team.

If you knew a bit about Adebayor you’ll know about him scoring 14 goals to single-handedly take Togo to the World Cup. Think about it and listen again. He single-handedly took Togo to the World Cup. That’s like Craig Bellamy single-handedly taking Wales to the World Cup or some San Marino player single-handedly taking San Marino to the World Cup.

Thankfully Wenger is not as stupid as you and smartly bagged the raw stone just before everyone knew it is a diamond.

I am still waiting for you to show just where in the Chelsea game Adebayor kept losing the ball.

  65. Great result yesterday, great post by Yogi and a great subsequent debate – but sadly it has to degenerate again.

Below are three questions I asked a certain blogger a few days ago after another assault on someone who disagreed with him.

I shall repost the same three questions until:

    a) The childishness stops – and that stands for those who insult the poster in question.
    &
    b) the questions are answered satisfactorily.

Failure to answer the questions will tell other readers all they need to know about the moral framework of the person in question.

They will be posted at every repeat of todays unpleasantness and will not go away until satisfactorily answered.

“Now you have chosen to show another colourful side to your character; describing someone as a ‘fag’. So then three questions to you:

    1) Do you think being a ‘fag’ is a negative personality trait, and if so would you consider it a character defect and therefore a form of abuse?

    2) How does this form of abuse, if you consider it abuse, fit with your: ‘no personal attacks on bloggers’ mantra? And in the relative pecking order of ‘personal’ attacks would you consider it more or less objectionable than having a dig about someones use of language?

    3) Why do you think it is that you manage to have so many acrimonious disagreements with other bloggers?

I sincerely look forward to your response.”

Clearly for ‘fag’ substitute whatever todays attack was, and on and on.

  66. Oh by the way before I forget, comparing Midfielders to Strikers in scoring goals is lame argument. It’s the style of play that allows our midfielders to score more (at least for the time being). Most teams in the league skip the midfield all together and punt the ball to their strikers, yes they will score more this way. The midfielders we have think, they have the skills and the vision to run in and join the strikers to break defenses.

    G4E

  67. ok…..err… we all support the same team here right??

with fellow fans like these who needs rivals..

  68. RvP

    Quite correct.

Lets talk about something we can all agree on: Liverpool. Whats more embarrassing – the team or Rafa’s beard?

  69. Ole Gunner:
I like your raw stone anology. Adebayor offers the team, so much more than is evident from TV.

The amount of bile from fans to certain players is shocking.

AW recognises potential and has the patience and stamina to develop such players for the benefit of the team and the club.

Players like, Hleb, Senderos, Almunia, Song, Gilberto have at one time been at the receiving end of such small minded and ignorant criticism.

Coments by ethan gooner at the begining of the season have thought me to not bother reading his post.

  70. Good gracious me! There is quite some froth here. I thought Almunia played a superb game. His save on the deflected shot by SRW (I think it was) was great. It’s so hard to react to a ball that changes its path. His positioning was perfect on that shot too. Consistency is the hallmark of excellence so let’s hope this game gives him confidence going forward and that he can maintain this level. I also think Lehmann will leave of his own accord after this. Almunia just cemented his selection and Lehmann is focussed on EURO 2008 and a starting spot for Germany. Without first team action his bid for starting would seem to be over unless he transfers.

It’s been posted before on who people would like to see Wenger bring in to replace Lehmann (if he goes). What about Tim Howard? He’s quietly having an excellent year, would be pretty cheap, and is a proven performer. What say you?

  71. Fabianski was bought for a reason, so why bring Howard?

  72. I like Almunia too and I dont think we need Boruc, but I still feel I need to correct this one error. Boruc has an op now and is out for at least a month. Celtic had a different keeper this weekend:

  73. Eboue was lucky to escape with such a disgraceful tackle on John Terry. That tackle made me feel so ashamed, Ashamed at my glee.

  74. LOL, Michael I’m sad for England but not for Chelski. They deserved what they got, they thought they can muscle us out of it…..ha-ha, that was a thing from the past Chelsks.

It was old lady Fergie who started all this in 2004 when he knew he couldn’t match our passing game so he came up with the “Kick them out of the park” idea….Eat your heart out Fergie.

  75. Hey!

I think Adebayor played well yesterday, he pushed the team forward to upset the blues. Sure he made the amount of mistakes to be compared with a drunk player, but whatwas to suggest he made as much correct choices as a Sir Alex ferguson/Gerrard cross?

Overall the game wasn’t bad, and can’t wait ’till the next battle comes!

    Cheers!

  76. I’ve just watched a replay of the game and I fault AW for sticking with this 4-5-1. If only RvP had started, we would’ve won the game comfortably.

As for Ade, I’m still with ethan. RvP started shooting as soon as he came on. Ade didn’t try once. He has a long way to go with his passing, touch and decision-making. He was better yesterday but far short of the quality required as an Arsenal lone striker.

  77. Particuarly nice to see the Mr. Abramovich was made to wear a tie – don’t want to sound like a complete snob but well done to the board for maintaning certain minimum standards re. the dress code.

  78. Howard, I am pretty sure the reason RVP didn’t start was it would have been 1 too many players coming back from injury. Too much of a risk.

My guess is that it was planned for RVP to come on to replace Hleb at 65-70 mins, but Eboue got crocked.

Ade had an excellent game, his detractors just expect way too much. The game just ain’t as easy as it looks from an armchair.

  79. It’s about time they do N5

RVP came on and started shooting, one was a screamer over the bar with his right foot, which most people said he should’ve scored, he also shot way over the bar with his left, and a shot which cech saved. To me, that was down to being not match fit yet, I don’t label him as a liability to the club.

This argument will not serve anything but to fill this blog with useless comments.

  80. Flint

Well said ‘the game just ain’t as easy as it looks from an armchair’ I thought he’s being paid tons of cash to deliver happiness for us; right?

  81. Gunner4Ever

More like comments you react to because you don’t agree with them ! , instead of respecting my opinion !!!!
you ram your pathetic one eyed thoughts down my neck !! Sorry i know what i see and if you think you can see a sunset out his A-hole then fine ! But thoughts like yours stop this team from becoming great !

I never said , that he doesn’t have potential !,
your like a linch mob ! and do i have to say the ‘N’ word again ? Can your fragile minds take it !??
    Ade’s been playing woeful !
    WOEFUL !!!!!

    Flint
Then leave fabregas on the bench or hleb because there creativity IS WASTED if you haven’t got a striker up front to convert the chances !and just continually spill possession ! Or continually shoot off target !or better still pass to the opposition ! Or lose headers when your like 7 foot tall !

His performances are 2nd rate with no passion for goal !!! If any other top flight striker was on the end of our midfield creativity they would bury goals into the double digits by now !
    And der!!!!
the reason we are on top of the ladder is due to the hard work of our midfield !
f###’in open your eyes lads !

Fabregas’s goal tally is testament to that ! Even Hleb and flamini have chipped in !
Probably tired of watching all there good passing going to waste in the final 3rd !

And this all started because Bentner to me looks far better and deserves his chance ! Jens only got 2 games before he was benched . Ade has been ineffective upfront for far more than 2 games now !
We will see what RVP can do ! and how sad he will make ade look ! .. Then you might understand what a CLASS striker can do with the midfield setup he has at his disposal !
Wow scoring a hat trick against the most poorly rated team to grace the EPL in history! he must be VERY proud ! its good for your stats though !
Plus most of his hat trick can be attributed to arsenals midfield creativity , toe poking a cross in the box ! PURE SKILL !

Howard exactly .. 4-5-1 isn’t a attack minded formation , and its made worse by ade’s skill set !
Let me tell you how it goes for all the blind – 1 eyes out there, AND WATCH A REPLAY FOR F###’# sake !…
ade receives a pass from our GIFTED MIDFIELD
proceeds 4 or 5 paces ! then either simply loses possession or is squeezed off the ball . Or tries to knock a pie out of a spectators hand !

Who cares what he did with togo ! they didn’t even make it to the ANC shows you how good they are ! and not even in the same league as the EPL !

Look at his conversion rate !
I think you all would rather argue than see the truth !
or as jack Nickleson would say ..
YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH !

you could put doogal in our strikers role and he would have yielded more than 9 goals from 22 starts with our midfield , and the chances they create !!!
    which ade just squanders !
GIVE BENTNER A GO !!! Sure g4e ,keep ade, i never said he wasn’t an asset , But is it fair on bentner or walcott to be giving this guy a go when we have better potential on the bench ?????

READ THIS LAST PARAGRAPH SLOWLY !
WATCH A REPLAY ! instead of firing off your
mouths !!! BECAUSE IT JUST GOES TO SHOW ME HOW LITTLE YOU ALL KNOW ABOUT OUR TEAM! AND ITS MECHANICS !
or how badly you all can judge quality !
just because he has 9 goals and most of them against inferior opposition you think the sun shines out his AH!
3 goals against derby ! HAHAHA
WELL THATS A DEFINING MOMENT !
    A TRUE ACCOLADE !
1 was a penalty which he didn’t even create!! ,
making his true tally 8 .. also he has played in EVERY GAME ! AND SCORES 1 GOAL EVERY 3 GAMES ! with the midfield we have he should be converting FAR MORE THAN THAT !!That is truly PATHETIC INFACT…
when you factor in a hat trick against derby HAHAHA!
your inability to see him spill possession , your lack of vision is amazing !

    hahaha you gotta laugh !
    I ain’t bothered anymore ..
its like trying to teach your child something he clearly isn’t ready to learn yet !

  82. FLINT- HOWARD

    or the bench !!!
so give someone else on it a go !
or someone from an armchair :)

  83. G4E

YES THATS MY POINT he showed far more purchase in 90 seconds , than ade did with the possession he had THE WHOLE GAME !

You cant score if you don’t SHOOT !!!!!
    WATCH THE GAME !!!
RVP stats are better and he played only 13 minutes !!

    ISNT THAT PROOF ENOUGH ???????

  84. william

Yes your right ! Being a HIND SIGHT critic ,its so hard to put a foot wrong ! Just read other peoples opinions ,whilst having none of your own !

Id rather create a debate than be a ghost like you !
So thanks for the personal attack ! But look in your own backyard ! You mind fairy !

  85. Ethan, I was responding to the comment and I didn’t really have to call you anything.

I also think you wanted to say ” I ram my pathetic one eyed thoughts down your throat” unless you’re the only one who eats with his neck.

If you read my posts, and not just skim over reading what you want and leave the other. I said, I think Ade played a few hard games in the PL and needs a rest and Bendtner should have more chances to play.

The only pathetic thing is having to call someone a Nazi or resort to calling them all names in the dirty dictionary because you can’t convince them of your views.

Now to my pathetic one eyed thoughts, I wonder if the whole world has changed……I thought POSITIVE thinking brings people out from the darkness of ignorance & illiteracy….but maybe I’m wrong and talking negative all the time is new thing now.

“The only crazy man in a room full of sane people thinks he’s the only one sane and the rest are crazy’.

  86. You can also shoot as many times as you like, if they don’t go in…they don’t count.

If this is the way we judge players, you won’t have any one playing. I would think Torres would be shipped in a box back to Spain next week then.

I feel Ade is being blamed because we play 4-5-1. It is very hard for the most talented of strikers to be up front on their own, TH14 any one? I think he looked very poor in 4-5-1 formation, specially if your midfield is not up to it and supporting that lone striker.

I don’t really respond to your comments because I don’t like you Ethan, it just because I don’t believe in them. I still think you are an Arsenal fan who just want things to be a lot better fast, nothing wrong with that….but there are others who don’t think this way.

  87. gunner4E

I still think you are an Arsenal fan who just want things to be a lot better fast, nothing wrong with that….but there are others who don’t think this way.

I was agreeing with howard , and before i knew it
ole and people are saying things like idiot -imbecile etc..
I suggest you read it before you pass judgment!
dickheads like danny abuse my family members,
my spelling !? stan k kranky attacks my Opinions also ! They deliver direct personal attacks so I just don’t read their bollocks anymore .
They are 1 eyed, and not open to any opinions but the fertilizer they spurt from there own keyboard !
Just hoping someone will agree with there ramblings to ease there fragile ego’s !

oh and this nazi thing again ? would you prefer me to use fascist? Or popularity ranking system ???
OR even ‘Blog dominance’ because people don’t understand words in a dictionary?

They are fully entitled to there opinions SO RESPECT MINE ! , but they possess no social graces ! ,if there rude to me ! then they might as well be looking into a mirror because you will get it back !
But by and large i will not bother with those types as i respect people like Howard , dan and a few others Nacho even !.Who’s opinions are worth listening too .

There are plenty of opinions i dont agree with here, but it all makes for a better debate !
Providing your not dealing with rock apes !

And yes we need to be BETTER faster because now we have everything to lose with such a tight title race ! The single striker option up front for what ever reason isn’t working !!! Never has !
SO WHY PEOPLE DEFEND IT OR ITS FAILURES IS BEYOND ME ? It clearly isnt working ! We are just stunting everything we do thats good in the midfield ! perfect passages of play until the buck stops with ade !!! And don’t tell me you haven’t noticed it !!!

But if you compare apples with apples jens got 2 chances before he was benched ! With all the competition for spots shouldn’t we try something ELSE??? Utilize bentner with RVP or Even give Walcott 45 minutes?

I hope wenger see’s what i deem obvious and puts RVP back into his rightful place . And ade will play better with a strike partner..sure! Thats the ONLY role i see him in !!!, But as a solo striker he has had enough chances to shine .. But i feel he hasnt!!!!, and needs to give someone else a run ! So wenger has GOOD options in the future , NOT never try bentner !

Because Bentner COULD SURPRISE YOU !(like theo) or like Cesc , Flamini and Hleb has this season !!!

  88. Ethan, what happened to your blog dude???? Your opinion style might be better suited somewhere else man. The overpersonalization & sheer intensity of your comments is turning me (and I suspect others) off reading & contributing on this blog, It’s almost like you came back to destroy Yogi’s beloves blog man.
PLEASE man, chill out or for the sake of mature conversations, move on dude!!!
    I beg of thee

  89. Yes aman thanks for blaming me !!!~

  90. Ethan, thank you for pointing that out. I do think that some direct their attention towards you….come to think of it, you do get pulled into it more often than not.

I had all night-er arguing with Howard on Almunia vs. Lehmann and I think we never agreed on anything, but I respected him since then because he never took the conversation to a personal level. Some times, I try to joke and pull him into it again, but he is not falling for it…. yet :)

I’m sorry if my comment was not directed in general. I really think there are some wonderful comments, views and people on this blog. There are even people that I never talked to one on one but I still read all their posts.

Again, I definitely see that Ade is not playing as good as when he started the season, that I think for two reasons and I will list the important one first.

1- RVP, and 4-4-2. Go back a few matches and watch the two play together in a couple of games.

2- Playing 4-5-1 in some difficult away games and the physical effect when you are playing as lone striker.

Ade should and I think must be rested very soon, and Bendtner to get a chance and shows he is truly up for it and give Wenger a real selection headache, at that point Ade will have to fight for his place back.

I’m still enjoying the moment we beat Chelski, you can never have enough of that…..And Almunia rules :)

    G4E

  91. G4E

Almunia is Definitely in the ZONE at the moment , And i think against the likes of Chelsea he definitely Showed us his professionalism & commitment . I did have my reservations about him at the start of the season too.
But recently he has proved me wrong with his SOLID performances , Is he our long term goalie? Only arsene can answer that question, but i think he definitely will be 1st choice for a while longer after that performance . And what a great reaction to sheva’s spot kick !

Yes i agree with your reasoning .
1- RVP, and 4-4-2. Go back a few matches and watch the two play together in a couple of games.
YES ITS THE ONLY WAY I CAN SEE HIM BEING USED SUCCESSFULLY !

2- Playing 4-5-1 in some difficult away games and the physical effect when you are playing as lone striker.
EVEN HENRY HAD TROUBLE PLAYING IN THIS FORMATION,be it his last year .But you need a
natural marksman to play in this role .. RVP can do it ! as he makes space and is very dangerous !

But like ive been saying from the start arsene’s downfall is playing good players out of position .
Ade doesn’t look comfortable upfront and alone..
And your comment hits the nail on the head for me !

give Wenger a real selection headache !

Theo and bentner have looked solid for there cameo’s .Even my wife sat there against middlesboro and cringed at Ade’s performance.
She let our a sigh ! every time he coughed up the ball .Being behind even made it more depressing and frustrating !. And before anyone attacks me again WATCH A REPLAY !
I have, and it wasn’t any better the 2nd time i watched it ! But i do firmly believe it wasn’t helped by 2 DM in the center of the park . There was no creativity between gilberto and diarra .
And thats when ade needed to prove himself by beating the man .. Taking on a lowly middlesboro
,could he do it ??? well i think the result spoke for itself !

  92. I think he is going to rest Ade, maybe right after the Spuds game. Wenger should play 4.4.2 for that game, then Bendtner should fill in the next two away games. Bendtner / RVP would work in those away games or I hope so :)

The young team will play a tough game in the CC, I hope the win today.

  93. i’m completely baffled by some of the (parden my french) b*ll shit posted on here today…
Jese Louise. All of that nonsense after beating Chelsea! What ever next?
