The toughest fixture of Gilberto’s absence is today and coinciding with the absences of Rosicky and Hleb, leaves Arsene with a dilemna; does he stick with 4-5-1 and bring in two new faces to midfield or revert to 4-4-2, giving a Premiership debut to Eduardo or a first start to Bendtner? All three have their merits; all three have their drawbacks.
Blackburn are expected to give the team a physical encounter, that is true but also a simplistic way of looking at their tactics. The one thing is certain that they will press Arsenal when not in possession and look to move the ball swiftly to the wings when attacking. That aspect of their play does not worry me particularly because in Sagna and Clichy, the full back areas look to be more solid than they did last season. However, the key to those battles will be who plays in front of them because it may well be that defensively, the midfield areas are inhabited with players for whom that is not their natural game.
Opting for 4-4-2 offers a ’safer’ choice for Arsene in some respects. The midfield suffers the least disruption with only one new face, probably Denilson on the left, Alex Hleb reverting to the right hand side, despite the observations on the official site that he is the player most likely to make way, meaning a line-up of,
Lehmann; Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy; Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini, Denilson; RvP, Eduardo
with a bench of
Almunia, Senderos, Song, Walcott, Bendtner
If he decides to start with 4-5-1, Walcott seems the more obvious candidate with Hleb staying centrally. Much will depend on how Eduardo seems to Le Boss but if he thinks he will be up to the ninety minutes then he should go with 4-4-2. However, his press comments about Walcott lead me to believe that he will go with the starting line-up of,
Lehmann; Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy; Walcott, Fabregas, Flamini, Denilson; Hleb; RvP
and a bench of,
Almunia, Senderos, Song, Eduardo, Bendtner
A win takes us into the pack of teams on six points, a three goal victory takes us top. I cannot see that happening. We are capable of winning this match although a point should not be considered a failure. For those who want omens, according to The Guardian yesterday, when films in the Jason Bourne series are released, we have good away wins: 3 – 0 at The Valley in September 2002 and 4 – 1 at Goodison in August 2004. Mind you, Blackburn have not lost their opening home Premiership fixture since 1996 and I’m not too sure at the veracity of the claims in The Guardian because they had Diaby listed as a starter and within a centimetre had him out until next weekend.
To the papers of today and The News Of The World has a big picture of Cesc with not many words, all of which seem to be him apologising for being rude to Mark Hughes last season, accompanied by a piece about Arsene’s contract talks. The theme is carried over all of the Red Tops and tabloids, with Arsene confirming that the rumoured escape clauses which could be activated at the end of the season or in the event of a takeover, will not be present,
I hate clauses
Told you. He elaborated in The Mail On Sunday and The Sunday Mirror,
It is down to me if I want a longer contract or not and there is a takeover, because I know from the moment I sign that it can happen. I always refuse clauses, because if I sign, for example, a contract for three years, and in that I can move out after one year, for me that is not fair. If a player asks me that, I also refuse to sign this kind of clauses. You are either committed, or you are not committed. You cannot say ‘I want to a have long-term insurance, and also that I can move out when I can’ – that is not right
The People reckons that the contracts are with the Lawyers, ironing out the fine print which if true, indicates that the deal should be done by the internationals in September at the latest, unless there are major problems, which it seems there are not because the noises emanating from both sides are too positive.
Everywhere also carries his belief that the commitment from the players was not right last season and this time round, it is. The only bit of transfer gossip is in The Mail On Sunday which I have seen concerns Luka Modric. Apparently, the £10m ‘battle’ for his signature between Arsenal and Bayern Munich will go to the wire with Zagreb unwilling to sell him before their Champions League fate is sealed. Their First Leg was inconclusive, a 2 – 1 defeat in Bremen hardly means they are out but even if they do depart the competition at this stage, my money would be on the player already taking German lessons.
Enjoy the game wherever you are watching it. ’til Tomorrow.

The new site looks great. Keep it up!
As for the match, I’d like to see Bendtner start. I don’t think Wenger will risk Eduardo because it’s clear he’s not 100% and we don’t have the depth out wide for Hleb to play centrally. If Bendtner starts I think Arsenal will win – if not, I think we’ll struggle.

I can’t see us going 4-4-2, and expect it to be 4-5-1 with a line up of;
Jens
Clichy
Kolo
Gallas
Sagna
Hleb(LM)
Denilson
Cesc
Flamini
Walcott
RvP.

I can’t see Hleb playing LM in a 4-5-1; if that is what AW goes with (and I do think he will), it will be same as Fulham and Sparta.
Denilson has occupied the LM position for the majority of his first team appearances and I don’t think that will change today.

Morning Yogi,
Agree those are the two options, possibly the only two and I would be very surprised if we saw something different. I think most fans would expect to see Eduardo on the bench, I expect him to start. I just find over the years that cryptic Wenger tends to allude to one thing in mid-week press conferences and then go with the other.
My only real indication was Wenger particularly referring to Eduardo as “brave” and you would imagine there are a fair few filthy tackles in the Croatian league, not sure why I make that assumption other than in the main their national sides have contained very few shrinking violets in defence and of course that leads us to a Blackburn side full of abrasiveness with a dash of quality.
I do not want to get too excited about this one but I am, depending on the roll of the game I would probably take a point here, but 3 points would be somthing quite special.
I know some of us want simply to see these youngsters manuveure themselves into title race of sorts. You sense a point here would not nullify the possibility but 3 would liven the claim.
So a test of character and a chance maybe to find some more fluency to our game.
Yogi, why do you think it is, that the worriers, moaners, pessimists choose here as the safe haven?? You must have a theory!

By: solgooner on August 19, 2007

If AW wants to keep it simple then your team could be right YW.
Denilson at LM will help to patrol their right flank, which is quite productive for them. Troare LB with Clichy LM is another option but unlikely.
I think he must also be prepared to play Eduardo, Walcott or Bentner, when appropriate. 1 of those will start today. My guess is Eduardo, with both Bentner & Walcott featuring later, particularly if we are chasing the game.
We must hope for a win but a point would be acceptable at this stage.
From what we have seen from the PL this season there will be very few pushovers & Blackburn will certainly not be 1 of them. That will be good for football in general.

Yes a draw would not be a failure, but it would be unacceptable. We need to go into every game (especially weaker teams) looking to win it. Anything else would be unacceptable.

We do not have one player whose prefered position in either LM or RM. Every player who plays either of those positions in the club will tell you that there position is either CM or Striker. For me that says that the squad is too thin

I don’t follow your logic. If a draw is not a failure how is it unacceptable? The team enter every game with victory in mind but no team has ever won every game so drawing is an acceptable alternative, surely?
Whilst Blackburn are not as good on paper as Arsenal, they are not one of the teams that you would normally call ‘weak’. This is going to be a physical test as Wednesday was. From these games it is important to stand up and be counted, a point is a decent result.

I cant believe these Modric stories in the Mail.
They make no sense, firstly he is now CL Cup tied so why would either Bayern or Arsenal target him, surely they would look at someone who was available for all fixtures
And for us, he is another Attacking Midfielder in the mold of Hleb and Rosicky, ok he can play left side but if we are to bring someone in I would prefer a pure winger

For example someone achieves the minimum required in something when aiming for higher; the minimum result would not be a failure but would not be acceptable. I just don’t feel we should be playing teams like Blackburn and being ok with settling for a draw. If Chelsea beat Liverpool they will have 9 points.

If Eduardo is fit to start, Helb can go to right wing otherwise Helb should be in front with 4-4-2 formation and with Walcot on the right. Hleb is a very good goalscorer and he has already demonstrated the way he attacks the net.
And the nightmare for Blkbrn is RVP, which all defenders will be chasing him, there will be opportunity for second striker to fire the goal… But I am not in favour to change the defence formation, esp if MaCarthy is there…

Players are cup-tied if they play in any European competition, even the InterToto Cup.
It rules out a large number of supposed targets although I don’t think that will stop Arsene from signing someone, given the rotation needed to succeed on all fronts.

Where do you see us dropping points then? Only against the others in the top four? Not going to happen. It is unrealistic to expect us to win all games.
We will drop points so will Chelsea et al. This is only the second game of the season for us, Chelsea’s third; it is too early to start worrying about what they are doing. Let’s concentrate on us.

There are away games you know you will probably and should win, and those where you will know you will be up against it, and Blackburn away is one of those games
Whilst on Paper we are by far the better team, they are physical and have some excellent attacking options. Based on that I will be happy with a draw. Obviously I dont want us to play for a draw and I really want the 3 points but I am not going to think its all over if we come away with a point.

That’s the point though. Champions want to win every match but equally are comfortable with a point. They are before and after reactions.
I will be satisfied with a point because it is indicative of the maturing of the squad, avoiding defeats at the types grounds where we may have lost in previous seasons.
An unbeaten run is about consistency of performance not just winning. It is about having the mentality to get a draw or a win when perhaps your performance does not warrant it.
The Manchester City game is at home. Title challenges require home games against all teams to be won. Different circumstances and a draw then would not be an acceptable result.

What is this ongoing perception that Blackburn are somehow Arsenal’s bogey team, when we have beaten them 17 out of 18 in the Premiership (and RvP has scored 5 in the last 6 games against them).
Nice easy 3 points today, don’t you worry….

17 out of 18? I can remember them winning at Highbury in Wenger’s first double season, the catalyst for the title run to begin. Within a season or two, they drew 3 – 3 again at Highbury; we have lost there in the league once and that’s without looking at the head to heads on a stats site.
I don’t think anyone believes that they are a bogey side, just recognising that they are not one of the teams that should be considered a pushover.

I think it’s going to be tough. Does anyone agree with me that playing Bendtner would be a good idea? I would love to see Hleb continue centrally but with both Rosicky and Eboue missing I’m certain he’ll be pushed wide. Really shows up our lack of cover on the wings that everyone has pointed out consistently over the off-season.
By: Spanish Fry on August 19, 2007
at 12:03 pm
I’m not convinced Spanish, if they have big and strong central defenders, who are good in the air, why play to their strengths?
Why not if Eduardo is fit, pair him with Van Persie, get them to be mobile, pulling the big ol pair into places they don’t want to go and then see if a sweet pass can unearth a goal.
Having said that, I am not against Bendtner in particular playing, just the theory!

“Really shows up our lack of cover on the wings that everyone has pointed out consistently over the off-season.”
How often during the season are we going to have rosicky and eboue out at the same time. This has happened and we have decent cover. I do think we need another wide player but we are by no means low on players – vp can play right and eduardo can play left if we are desperate. And we have Gibbs in the youths who looks a quality prospect.
By: jj on August 19, 2007

Also, I agree with danny that Eduardo should start if fit enough to give their defence a right run around and to create space for our midfield to exploit. Then when their back line is flagging bring on Bendter who will outjump them for the rest of the match. If VP and Bendtner start the midfield will have to be making the runs in behind whereas Eddie will

Why should Song be in the squad when Denilson has recovered? He should bring Bendtner in and push Hleb to the left. I don’t know why Arsene doesn’t want to give Bendtner his first start. Song will just give balls away but Arsene don’t seem to see how Song is not good for the team. Bendtner is suitable for matches like this but Arsene might still be using Hleb at the centre and leave RvP alone which won’t work in a match like this.

not a lot in it really, We went a goal up after a goalmouth scramble, Van Persie fired one in from close range.
Blackburn have been very dirty though and Yellow Cards have been handed out for a couple of their repeat offenders, not sure how but Savage seems to have to actually kill someone to get one (he actually got one in the end)
We finished quite strong but could not add to the early goal,
Player wise, no one has stood out, but all have done quite well, Sagna is very solid though
Overall we probably just shaded it
Gallas is a worry though and if he is out for a prolonged period I am not sure what we can do. I dont think we can pull Djorou back so it will be up to the Norwegian kid as cover or we join the Curtis Davies bidding war. As long as they dont play Sideshow Song there I dont mind

The Battle of Ewood Park
Blackburn 1 Arsenal 1
Well I know Jens got some justified backup from the fans last week but maybe this week is one too many, he should certainly be dropped for next week, why on earth he tried to punch it there is beyond me, it was straight at him and he could of caught it, He was having a joke with the ref at the full time whistle but utimately he has cost us two points
More concerning than the keeper situation is the knocks we have picked up, Gallas will be out for a few weeks and I am not sure if Van Persie played on with a ankle knock. I am not quite sure on how close to the 1st team the norwegian kid is but we are light there now after Djorou’s loan
Blackburn were filthy in the 1st half and to be honest I cant defend us in the 2nd as for some reason we tried to match them. Blackburn were also guilty of acting on a couple of occaisions including Dunn holding his face and going down in a heap after Bendtner did the decent thing and pulled his foot out, he didnt touch him. They probably deserved there goal though as we posed no threat whatsoever in the second half which is a bit of a concern
Eduardo’s debut wasn’t the best but given the game you cant read too much into that and he was the unfortunate player to give way to Denilson as we needed to change the formation as Blackburn were all over us
Yellow cards turned to red with about 7 mins to go but unfortunately we could not make the extra man count, to be honest I think we were probably just happy to get back on the bus knowing we dont need to go there for another year
Overall we all seemed to agree that a point would be acceptable and thats what we got, but if it wasnt for Lehmann it could have been more.

Man of the match – Alan Wiley.
Well earned point against a team who can play football but for most this match preferred thuggery & cheating. We stood up to it well but fitness was an issue in the end.
I wait to see what the BBC boys make of that bstard Savage for the stone wall blatant dive.

First, I have to say a certain other Arsenal blog’s comments section has become completely unreadable. The fact that such “fans” exist really makes me concerned about the state of education in the UK.
“Blackburn Rugby Football Club”
Pat, that’s a great way of putting it. Blackburn should really be ashamed of the way they played today; they were reminiscient of Bolton at their worst, but without the latter club’s relatively commendable forthrightness.
However, the way the rules are right now, it is profitable for certain clubs with less resources to play that way – Sam Allardyce and Mark Hughes can really only go as far as the rules (and the referees) let them.
As far as the actual game, I’m afraid we were never able to really get into a rhythm thanks largely to Blackburn’s tactics of closing us down with abandon. I think Pat’s summary is on the money.
As for the big question of Jens, I admit I am a Jens supporter. I think he’s a uniquely talented keeper with a certain edge about him that, given time with the same back line, could make us very hard to score against. That said, his mistakes have become more frequent and more absurd. I think that playing Almunia for the next few games would help motivate Jens.

We forgot to play football in the second half, and thats what lost us the points. A draw was, to be fair, an ok result. Im happy that RVP managed to compose himself, and not get sent of, the Blackburn players were after him all day long.
Lehmann needs to go now. He did a great job on wednesday, but two sundays in a row he has let himself, the team and us down. If I made two extreme mistakes at my work, I would be off, or at least be taken out of service for a while. Football is a profession for these people, and now Jens has to earn his spot again. It would not be fair to Almunia now if Lehman got to continue. Almunia played well in preseason and I think he should be rewarded now.

I think we just lacked a leader in the second half with Gallas off
We needed someone to keep control as I am ashamed to say we sank to their level during periods of the second half
sorry I cant stick with Jens after that, two howlers in two games is too much for a top keeper and whilst he his a top keeper, he is too prone to costly mistakes, it was nearly 3 points last week and 2 this. What really annoyed me was the pictures of him pointing to his fists and laughing with the ref at the full time whistle.
Agreed about Phil, he did well and we are going to need more of that because Gallas’s injury looks like being more than a week’s rest. Sagna did well, Flamini i though was reckless and was probably lucky to still be on the pitch at the end.
I am not trying to play on our width and attacking options but I was quite dissapointed with them today, there was not a lot going forward at all.

Im very positive still its early & RVP, Sagna, Clichy, Cesc & Hlebs start are all good, however
1. Lehmann is a liability always has always will be

3. Centre back pos is suspect after Kolo/Gallas
4. Anelka could have won us game today!!

Yogi, why do you think it is, that the worriers, moaners, pessimists choose here as the safe haven?? You must have a theory!
the theory is you have your head up your arsenal
and most of US moaners CARE about our club, whilst others are just too plain STUPID to see any problems !
thats the theory .. !
and why we come here is because we totally havnt given up on people like flint ,you etc…
we hope one day youll see the light !

Unfortunately I have just watched Wengers post match comments on the BBC site and his reply to the question about buying before the window shuts was
Not Really no.
I know you cant read too much into this as he has done this before but he thinks we have enough center backs, the snag with that is I guess he means Sagna as cover, but then Eboue needs to go back to RB, and options become less and less on the Wings.
I think I was wrong Sideshow Song will become an Arsenal Regular at this rate

Goona P – I hope you’re not taking that negative attitude to with you to the game next week. The team needs support not picking up on the doubts radiated by the fans.
There are reasons to be cheerful. It’s only the second game of the season, which it sounds like we would have won but for Lehman’s error.
Ade will be back and he has a very good partnership with RVP. Eduardo can play on the left and will also increase our fire power up front. Why not give them a chance before we write the team off? The grass is not always greener. Remember the last player to come here with a big reputation who turned out to be a pussy cat rather than a beast?

pat ,
I dont think Man City are too clever anyway so it should be an easy home win next Saturday
man city is a very very different team ..than last year ! i was ripped to shreds by yogi , by saying man city & spurs are up and comming (during the off season).. . i know , the owner very very well .. if 1 thing taksin is , he is shreud ! and will win ! and if he cannot win he will put more money in , so he can win ! … We are lucky we are at home .. thankfully its not another away game ! but dont count on taksin facing the legal system within the next 7 days … or if i know him , he will buy his way out of trouble in the UK … you are all aware your harbouring a criminal ,who has done some very EVIL things whilst in power in thailand !
too rich, too quick he fucks over everyone in his path .. he shouldnt be under estimated next week !

ethan_gooner …. i only care for man city becasue of blanci and sven
dont care if they hang the man … im actually hoping the club goes into liquidation, goes broke, and relegated
the EPL is heading down … Serie A wil be number one again … oh hang on a sec, didnt they win it all in the past 2 yrs …. hmmmmmmm
all clubs like chelski, man city, will go broke, and we will see teh epl go down the path serie a did in the late 90’s and early 2000

You are right about reputations Passenal but we do need numbers,
I know we have players coming back but we are losing 2 or 3 a week at the moment and whilst I hoped we wouldn’t be so unlucky with injuries this year it seems it is actually worse.
I think part of the problem is our passing game probably leads to frustration on the opposition and the only way to counter it is to kick out, and you saw that today, I crapped myself when VP11 went down, if we lose him we really are struggling with options

You wont be saying that after next Saturday Joe,
I thought you were awful today, but the only thing worse was Man Ure’s finishing.
If you play like that at the Emirates your unbeaten run will crash to the ground…..unless Jens is in goal

Passenal – Its not a negative attitude & Im not writing my boys off.. Im a gooner til i die
I think we will beat Man City & i cant wait to get on the train with my dad & my nephew to the emirates next saturday!!
I am a realist & I want us to compete for major honours this year & im just concerned that unless we address a couple of things the same frustrations are going to surface…
We have a new beautiful large WIDE pitch @ the emirates but for long parts of last season it was not being used.. Tomas & Hleb are CMs, Eduardo & Theo are Strikers, Eboue is a RB/RM…
We dont have one single winger in the team!! No Limpar, Pires, Overmars, Reyes etc….. in games last year it was obvious we missed that.. I thought Wenger would get Ribery or Malouda???
Plus i honestly think we need another proven CB & possibly a quality ST.. I like Ade but hes goin to ANC!! along with Kolo/Eboue which i think will leave us short…
By: Goona P on August 19, 2007
at 6:28 pm
you know pat at the start of the season wenger wanted to buy a player or 2 , then he was supposedly told by the board to sell some players before he could purchase any .. we sold like 6-7 players and got 2 1st team players in return ! ..
and made an additional 15 million squid (unspent!)
and now we wonder why we are short???
no replacement for reyes/baptista .. and we are in the same position as last year ..
infact we are worse .. because TH14 was the best striker since pele ! and im sure all fans here would not disagree ! its hard to replace him ..
infact other than eto , i cant really think of someone who is even close to th14 !
just read what mark hughes said yesterday about RVP and th14 .. we dont have anyone anymore
who is really feared upfront..
im starting to agree with pat.. bring back anelka !
we need more than just 1 dimension upfront ..
and rvp as the lone ranger isnt working
i agree pass we need to stay positive ..
but wenger has proven to us he doesnt know best
he is a very very good coach , and well respected
but we need quality to compete , its fine beating fulham, infact its expected.. you could of said the same today… we were expecting blackburns defeat.. but we would rather blame an individual preformance of jens.. but he is a team member!
he is PART of arsenal . and some holes need patching up !and did need it in the pre -season .
if a boat started to leak ..over a long journey
it might take several hours to sink …
but sink it will !

Joe
You are right, we wont come top this year but we will be top 4
You got battered off the park today but fluked a win, please enjoy your early success but every season has an average club go off on a flyer only to be out of it by Christmas and I see no different with you.

I would love Anelka to come back and I think he would be superb. I rarely see him have a bad game
It probably wont happen though, especially as I think Man Ure will probably be on the look out this week as Fergie’s managment style is to buy when faced with problems and injuries
I would still like Huntelaar, I dont think you can read too much into him scoring 4 goals yesterday as some blogs have as the Dutch League is quite week but I have been impressed with him everytime I have seen him
Quaresma as well scored a brace but I think he will command a ridiculous transfer fee so I doubt we will be interested in him.

man city is privately owned by and international fugative ! he is wanted for over 21 counts of fraud and corruption ! your club and players will be liquidated ! infact i cant even believe the FA let this man buy a football club in britain! hes not only a corrupt SOB. He is a murderer ! in thailand the papers dont have censorship, i remember one morning looking at a local thai paper , and on the front page was a mother sitting in a pool of blood
with her 2 dead babys at her knees , orders from taksin was kill all the drug cartel and there families as the theory is if you just kill the man , the sons will continue to trade .. why do i know ?
I live here ! and i know some cops who were sent to do taksins dirty work !
yes joe great owner you have there !
if the UK do the right thing and extradite him ,
by the time we play away at your stadium
youll have robbie fowler as your head striker
and we could sell you song, but by then you probly couldnt afford him !
we will throw in jens for free too

Has anyone looked on Gunnerblog?
From the sounds of things I think there is a posse outside the Emirates getting ready to burn Wenger alive at the stake
And I thought it was just me, Danny and Ethan that thought we were gambling with the future,
Blimey those guys are really mad.
I am going to watch the MOTD highlights tonight to make a sober verdict on the performance, Sopcast is ok but I think you do miss certain individuals contributions or lack of them.
I am concerned by the number of injuries though, and this has been happening to regularly to be called unlucky, is it something we are doing in training, incorrect warm ups, boots.

currently man city look far stronger ..
almost spurs like .. but i tell you when karma catches up with that rat taksin .. the bubble will burst as quick as he filled his bags up with cash and left thailand !
for joe and others who want to know the real story here , as taksin hired PR consultants to spread smoke screens all around the world to cover up what really happened here , ill endulge you & joe!
it happened last novemeber when taksin was up for his election (3 years in power) king rama ix
found out he was bribing voters by offering 100 baht (1.20 pounds)cash for every vote received he consentrated on country voters as most people dont live in bangkok (only work there).. (my wifes parents voted for him and got 200b in the process) that could feed a family out that way for a week or 2 and in a world with no social security ,99% would take the money!!,so the king was onto his rather novel way of getting re- elected , and told him to stand down, he then issued a statement after winning the election that he would do as the king asked and stand down… 3 months past and he didnt stand down … im sure it took him 3 months to disolve his cash trail .. and burn some evidence along the way , his only successful business shin corp is a 100% thai asset owned company which like any government department (like a national power company) (cannot be sold to non-thai nationals) but as he is PM he can change laws,
so for a whole 48 hours he changed the laws to make businesses sellable to foriegn parties..
sold shin corp for a tidy profit to singapore investors, then changed the laws back again .. and no one was the wiser .. only when he went off to that US summit to see bush , did the king call his retirered
X military general and friend to stage a military coop. it was seen negativly world wide, but thats only because you wernt here (and taksin paid PR companies in the USA and UK to make thailand look bad, I remember there was a tank on the corner of sukimvit road and all the soldiers were posing for pictures with children etc.. school kids tieing balloons to the tanks it was all rather circus like .. it was a day to celebrate as taksin was gone .. Now you buggars are harbouring him … but ill tell you he isnt affraid for his life if he returns , he knows if he returns he will be about 855 before he is released from prision !
because of his past police position (former commisioner) he owned the police and all the drug rings .. it can be proven by street talk
but never proven offically ..
so there you have it !not really arsenal news .. but i tell you it will affect man city and the EPL at some point ! .. and as sure as i guessed tonights starting formation and team .. ill tll you this man and the UK treaties between both countries , its only a matter of time before taksin will be extradited ! so joe !!! enjoy !!!
your club and leeds will have something in common shortly riches to rags !!!
LOVE IT !

joefootball – the nationality of the Arsenal players is immaterial.
Your team won a couple of matches – enjoy it while it lasts.

Blackburn were nasty today. It was a performance full of bile and snarling which left a bad taste in my mouth to watch. Then of course Hughes comes out with
“I thought we were absolutely brilliant today.
“I thought we totally dominated the opposition from start to finish.
“I thought we were hungry for the ball, we played the better football, really put some pressure on them and they weren’t allowed to play their normal game.
“I just thought we were excellent and played the best football and created more chances, but in the end when you lose a man you have to be happy with a point.”
Frankly it makes me detest the man. He was thouroughly unlikelable as a player and the last few years have shown the same to be true as a manager.

I know Passenal
I semi agree with some of the points they post behind the pure abuse but there is still 12 days left on the Transfer window so I will wait until the 1st September before fully judging the strength of the squad. I still think we need to be in a position where 1-11 are strong and the bench is full of quality. did anyone see Chelsea and Liverpools bench today, Frightning. I suppose it is a different type of gamble, they gamble on success by spending vast amounts. We gamble on success by hoping we dont get too many injuries and the unproven become proven.
Wenger’s cryptic comments dont help matters but all Arsenal fans should be used to that by now, even when he says he is not buying he does. He also didnt help himself by saying he will buy super super class players, and sorry you cant slate the more pessimistic Arsenal fan for believeing him and that is why the likes of Etoo, Robinho, Ribery, Malouda etc are talked about in blogs, they cant understand why we havent bought them. Maybe Arsene’s idea of Super Super class is Eduardo and Sagna. In Sagna’s case I think he has already shown glimpses of it, whilst Eduardo still has it all to do.
ultimately though if it wasnt for two horrendous mistakes we would be 2nd now 4 points above Man Ure with a game in hand.
I have seen an improvement over last year, especially in bite, the lads are not so much of a pushover now, but there is still work to be done. Width will always come up, nigh on every pundit and fan in the country knows and talks about it and whilst Eboue and Rosicky are injured and Hleb still fails to impress in the wide role it will continue until either one is bought or September the 1st comes and goes.

didnt see the game .. Lehmann only played to his pride to get to the World Cup ahead of Kahn .. with this achieved, his performances have gone down last season and now that he hesitated to even continue with us, he lost the plot completely .. there is one word for it .. sack the bloody German loser..
2 goals=2 keeper mistakes, sorry but……………..
btw Kahn was always 10 times better than him anyway ..
and this is a big point now..
AW likes to get rid of the 30 somethings, even the ones who dont want to go.. and here we have Lehmann who wasnt sure to continue, had an average season last year and got a new 1Y contract ..
me thought we would be consistent, or is it our Alsatian stinginess that makes us take these decisions .. winning on the cheap doesnt always work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
other point .. the refereeing in this country doesnt get any better..apart from letting thugs thrive and dictators take over football clubs, I would dare to say that there is hardly anything right in English football for the moment .. in most countries, the overtly violent game got banned about 25 years ago .. not so over here it seems .. thats probably why when an English forward manhandles a keeper and scores, the Sky pundits think it should be a goal .. the premier league is right now so short of quality technically that it is frightening
apart from us and ManU, nobody is playing any football
the ref in the Pompey-Bolton game was about as bad as I have ever seen..apparently he is still very young..Fulham no need to talk, and then Nobby Styles..one penalty and one Graham Poll situation.. its not good
PLEASE AW BUY ANELKA AND BUY A WINGER AND BUY A DEFENDER AND BUY A KEEPER AND WE WIN THE WORLD .. WHY MAKE IT SO DIIFICULT??

Henry is not the striker he used to be … but look out for G.Rossi.
also, like i said, i hope man city go broke and get relegated … would be the beging of the end of the EPL’S spengding power .. epl is becomeing a joke with all the clubs like chelsea … when are they going to put in a law stating you need to have at least 6 first team members of your own nationality

regarding quaserma .. i think they wanted around 25 mill … which i think is decent, considering hes one of the best players in the wolrd. i Thought Milan would have bought him, but im guessing he will stay at porto, which is a shame

joe football your a lost plank mate !
goto discuss how long man city will be able to stay in the EPL ! also 1 thing is for sure joe arsenal dont spend much cash …
jens needs to go .. our young squad battles hard to get 1 or 2 goals up … and then jens with startleing frequency hands them 2 x-mas presents in 2 games ..
i have to agree with bb’s opening statement , the reason jens came back into form was problydue to the world cup .. he seems back to his 10 yellow
card self last season .. and it doesnt matter how world class our defence is if you have a keeper like him !!!
Wenger time to bench him and give your young boy a go .. i wouldnt even give almunia a run ..
id just take a chance on fabinski .. lets see your 2 million dollar man !

Pathegooner – Wenger’s comments have clearly been misunderstood by people. If they knew Wenger at all they would realise that super, super class is not related to how much a player cost or how big a name they are. Before he came to us, Baptista would have been considered in that bracket, but he did not work out in practice. Eduardo may turn out to be in that class but he has only just started his Arsenal career. Huntelaar may be great in Holland, and Quaresma may be great in Portugal, but despite all the money spent this transfer window they are both still where they started last season. Wenger is the manager, he knows a lot more about their strengths and weaknesses than we do from watching Youtube compilations and highlights. If he thinks they will improve the team he will buy, if he doesn’t he won’t it doesn’t matter how much hype surrounds them. But, the day Wenger starts listening to armchair managers is the day I give up. So I’ll just chill out and support the team we have. No amount of agitating will make Wenger do what he has no intention of doing. If the team succeeds or fails it is Wenger who is responsible, not the unrealistic minority bleating on internet blogs. Hopefully the majority of Arsenal fans can see the wood for the trees and will just let the man get on with his job.

I know we should of won, but Blackburn at Ewood is a nightmare for any team that wants to play football, Hughes’s tactics have always been vile but predictable, a draw is acceptable in my book.
Hughesy is looking more like Punch (of Judy fame) with every deluded statement he makes, I hope he chokes on his sausages.

I agree with you, a point is acceptable from Blackburn and as you know we all posted to that effect over the last 24hrs
It is the manner of the draw that annoys me, if Blackburn had of scored in different circumstances I would of said fair one, they were all over us in the second half and the goal was coming.
I can see that the lads are stronger but there is a big lump in between the sticks that is ruining their great effort. We have a lot of confidence players who were getting kicked all over the park and their days work was crapped on in an instant. I have stuck up for jens in the past but that is the final straw for me, and to see him laughing and joking with the ref at the end riles me.

Two things:
DROP LEHMAN if Arsenal wants to win the title.
The reason why England will never do well at international level is precisely due to blackburn’s type of game promoted by hughes. What football quality do you have – kicking opponents?

People need to get off Lehmans back, our inability to dominate in the middle of the park cost us the game. Blackburn were all over us in the second half, we could not string 10 passes together, for Arsenal that should be a formality. No one in the squad is capable of running a midfield therefore we drew. Don’t misunderstand me I love Flamini and Cesc but they appear to turn up a day late and a dollar short when it comes to defending.

flint now your comming up with the blinders !
what on earth are you on about ?? haha
your good a laugh thou ! statement of the night !
its good to see most of you are starting to realize
the quality of players we have arnt going to get close to the big boys… its a shame it took most of you this long to rise up in voice ! if we ALL SHOUTED LOUDER ,EARLIER it might of made the club realize the fans arnt happy with choices made ! i have faith in alot of the lads , but there are some major parts of the puzzle missing
i for one would like to see modric join us in the centre of the park , but im thinking now with all the injuries we really need 1 more major player
in every position -forward-winger/midfeild-class replacement defender .. and the obvious a NEW GOALIE !
doubt it will happen but its paramount to have a chance at the title race .. and before yogi starts on me , yes wenger would need to PICK VERY WISELY ! but i think a few influential players would lift us to the next level !
which is where we need to be, to show the world
we still have what it takes ..

not sure what you mean by the robots comment flint
Do you mean that Lehmann is not a Robot so Frequent point costing mistakes are ok or do you refer to something else
We said yesterday though, we would be happy with a point and that is what we got, oh and another injury to a crucial player that means we are even shorter, Sideshow Song is now the backup!!!!!
Bigger concern is that Van Persie and Cesc seem to be being targeted, certainly in the last two games, I really feared Van Persie had a nasty injury yesterday.
I would argue that some of our best sides would of lost that, our team last year didnt lose that fixture, so who has got better or worse us or Blackburn. We had a good first half but in the second we were just there in numbers, it was an awful second half performance void of leadership and attacking options and that is not good
By: Patthegooner on August 20, 2007

Blackburn played much better yesterdat than some months ago when we beat them 2-0 with 10 men. Though they missed a couple of sitters that time.
Patthengooner: CB’s backup for the City game will be Gilberto in my opinion, or should be. It will be two and a half weeks since Arsène spoke about him needing “two or three weeks to be fit” (or something like that, the quote can be found on the official website), so starting in the bench should suit him. If as we hope no injuries arise, then fine. He can play some minutes in the second half in his original position and maybe do the same against Sparta on wednesday before getting his first full start vs. Portsmouth.
I hope Diaby will be ready for the City match, I have no problems with the Flamster but I think he could give us something extra starting, and it would be nice to see him getting some starts before Bert comes back.

I think Arsenal has to go into the market and purchase a keeper and a striker in the names of Anelka. I hear he is valued at 9m pounds. Wenger go for him. Otherwise we are in crisis.
By: William Kizito on August 20, 2007

This was the beginning of the season Pat. All games are different
Blackburn have a temporary advantage of being competitively match fit 2/3 weeks ahead of the rest of the PL, because of their involvement in the Inter Toto. That showed in the 2nd half.
They did not create much other than at set pieces. If it were not for Jen’s gaff we would have been saying how we can win ugly now. Jen’s otherwise had a very good game like last week.
BBC showed nothing of the thuggery, cheating & intimidation of both our team & the ref. Any promising move was stopped by a foul. I suppose that is good ‘ol English spirit.
If an Arsenal player had done what Savage did in sticking a leg out at Kolo & going down it would have been front page news.
As for showing me the light Ethan it is you that needs to come away from the dark side look at your blog.
A team is built over a long period, a season develops. There is no point judging how good or bad a team is after 2 games. We will know a lot more after another 6/7 games.
NEC is right that Gilberto will be the CB cover.

We too need a left winger. All in all Arsenal needs three players to be complete. A keeper, a left winger and a gifted striker (Anelka). Wenger go, go Wenger for these players.

Solgooner – I completely disagree with that comment. Arsene did not buy Eduardo on the basis of YouTube clips so I’ll trust his judgement. I will not judge a player making his first start in a new league against a bunch of thugs. And besides he was involved in the goal we scored so I see plenty of promise.
Flint I completely agree – I made the mistake of watching MOTD because I hadn’t seen the game earlier. I will not be making that mistake again.

This match report from the BBC is unbelieavable.
“Blackburn appealed for a penalty just after the restart when Robbie Savage seemed to be brought down by Toure as the Rovers midfielder burst into the penalty box but referee Alan Wiley waved play on”
Blind men working as pundits.
Thankfully other papers were spot on, calling Savage: “tumbler-in-chief”, “a disgrace with his hypocritical histrionics” and responsible for “a comical attempt to win a penalty”.
