Fabregas And Early Weekend Team News

Cesc has, it seems, adopted a similar philosophy that Robert Pires held dear to his heart, namely that providing goals is as meaningful as seeing the back of the net bulge through your own efforts. It is indeed a rare breed of footballer who genuinely takes pleasure in seeing others take the ‘Glory’. In a sport renowned for rampaging egos, such selflessness should be acknowledged. Too often the providers are forgotten in the multitude of words and headlines that scream at us everyday; those in the midst of all of that have been known to forget that the team requires all characters to prosper, Didier Deschamps famously dismissed as a ‘Water Carrier’ by Eric Cantona, the latter all too eager to put himself forward as the ‘hero’, omitting to acknowledge that he could not have acheived any of the heights without his accomplices.

Meanwhile, the media would have you believe that he is turning into the antithesis of everything that Arsene stands for; in other words he is a bit of a thug. Well, if that is the case, long may it continue. The ‘nasty’ side of football is something that all of the successful clubs have had in their armoury and if that is an element he develops then so be it. Having been on the receiving end and mocked for it, the stench of hypocrisy in media criticisms wafts towards us.

Alas, as a Club, Arsenal rarely will get the plaudits that their performances deserve; ‘They don’t score enough‘, ‘They are easily bullied‘ regular criticisms for every win, draw or defeat. Had the Prague performance been turned in by Chelsea or United, it would have been below par but praised for their ability to be, well, ‘hard’. Instead the slings and arrows of disdain are fired in Cesc’s direction. Curiously enough though, very little attention is paid to Repka’s reported words before the game, morallistic comments directed at Cesc take little account of the fact that the circumstances of the match demanded a physical response. Do I have any sympathy with Repka? None whatsover. Had he been a lightweight left winger then perhaps but Repka has made a career out of being an ‘uncompromising’ defender so to hear his bleating is amusing. As the old saying goes, ‘If you can’t take it, don’t give it‘.

This weekend will apparently see the full debut of Eduardo at Ewood Park. Arsene noted yesterday that of the injured list, the Croatian and Denilson were the only ones who are likely to have recovered although Eboue looks to have joined Diaby and Adebayor in the treatment room, receiving a knock on his ankle on Wednesday. Gilberto meanwhile, has caught the covetous eye of Juventus yet again, this before he has even kicked a ball in anger, something expected to happen at The City Of Manchester Stadium on August 25th.

Should Eduardo appear, the likelihood is that tactically, we will field more of a 4-4-2 formation than the 4-5-1 which has been successfully implemented so far. And yes, it has been successful. The performances may not have been stunning but results are what count at the end of the season. Should Eboue not recover in time, his place would I think be filled by Hleb. However, if he makes it, I would not be surprised to see Rosicky foresake his starting line-up place with Hleb shifting flanks. It may not be the position that he wants to fill but there is little reason to put a centre-forward in a wide midfield position, somewhere that the close attentions of a full back can marginalise him with relative ease. In a 4-5-1, I suspect that van Persie would feel more comfortable in the advanced midfield role than Eduardo. However, with the ease that the players rotate their positioning, the formation on paper (or screen) bears little or no resemblance to that which operates on the pitch.

Rosicky is reported in the press today as saying words to the effect that we have yet to see the best of him due to injury. That is a pretty fair assessment of last season. Each time he was coming into form, he was subsequently absent through injury. This time, he has yet to get into the habit of scoring, something that he acknowledged is necessary from the midfield this season. The players have to score to supplement those from the strikers, so far the unlikeliest source has come through. Let’s be honest, it would not have surprised anyone if Hleb had chipped in with one all season, amazing what a bit of confidence in front of goal can do for a player.

’til Tomorrow.

  1. 4-5-1 should only be used on the road against dangerous opposition. I think it was probably the right formation for Prague.

But you saw against Fulham that the only real chances came when Wenger brought on a second striker – Bendtner. Suddenly Van Persie wasn’t an isolated figure any more, and we scored twice in 10 minutes.

I hope we don’t use 4-5-1 more than absolutely necessary – it’s boring to watch unless you’ve got great wingers, and we don’t.

  2. Completely agree Yogi

I too have no sympathy for Repka and hopefully this is a sign of Arsenal standing up to the bully boys. I personally hope Cesc did mimic his limp. I bet he does not do it again at the Emirates.

I imagine it will be the same at Blackburn this weekend. This is going to be tough game and probably the 1st opportunity to see if they are really dropping the dominate to draw tag. Remember the FA Cup, we were all over them and although Poll did not help us out by missing stonewall penalties and refusing to give out cards we should have put the game to bed by half time.

It will be good to see Dudu, however if Eboue is out then who will play on the Right. Is Walcott ready for a tough battle like this. I would like to see him on the bench as an option and go with 4-4-2

    Lehmann
    Clichy
    Gallas
    Toure
    Sagna
    Rosicky
    Cesc
    Flamini
    Hleb
    Dudu
    VP

When is Gilberto back? although we have a multitude of options in the middle we seem short at present. Maybe there is an argument for phil to start alongside Gallas and put Toure in CM, Maybe Diarra is not so crazy afterall.

  3. Spot on Yogi

I totally agree with your comments regarding the criticism we get – very unfair, yet when we do what other teams do on a regular basis we get slated for it. Where’s the justice ???? Its great to see our team fired up, take the kicking and give it back, with interest ! Repka should be in trouble for his comments before the game – but no ! – apparently there’s no problem with saying that your teams plan is to kick the other team off the park.

Eduardo looks a class act and I cant wait till he starts knocking the goals in. Roll on Blackburn.

  4. Hleb on the left and Rosicky on the right sounds like an option, although with Eduardo back and Eboué possibly unavailable.

Flamster or Denilson would be the other doubt.

Joe: our 4-5-1 is not that kind of 4-5-1 with lone Drogba-like strikers. It depends more on 1) overlapping fullbacks 2) midfields arriving to the box constantly, moving constantly, interchanging places, dominating and passing quickly to create chances. Even the lone striker goes out of the box to join the midfielders in creating chances. It’s more important to have people arriving at the box than people just being there. It surprises oposition. Look at what Kolo did against Fulham.

But yes, sometimes it doesn’t work and Arsène should definitely have different attacking options (like actual strikers, or people like Walcott) on the bench.

  5. Oh, and Yogi… isn’t the game against City at ther Grove?

  6. I would imagine if Eboue makes it then we will see the same side as the last 2 games. Its not ideal for VanP however who really needs someone alongside or ahead of him to play his best. He wont complain though and will get his head down and give his all.

Id like to see Eduardo play up front. He a tricky customer and will give the Blackburn defence something else to think about. If hes in the faces it will give more space for VanP to weave his magic. He likes playing against Blackburn !

    Ill go for

    Lehman
    Sagna Kolo Gallas Clichy
    Flamini
    Hleb Cesc Rosicky
    VanP Eduardo

I fancy VanP and Rosicky to score. Eduardo needs time to settle before the goals come i feel. Bentdner should get 20 mins or so near the end.

    2 nil to the arsenal

  7. What is important we maintain the hunger and not relax. That can happen after couple of victories. so its good in a way to be written off, which maintains our intensity.

Maximum 1 of top 3 will have 100% points record this weekend. We shud also try and get it and build from there. Blackburn, Newcastle, Portsmouth and everton are tough teams, so be alert very alert.

See what happend to manu and spurs who were suppose to have easy ride, while one mourinoh quietly keeps collecting points.

  8. -r

  9. Anybody else notice how Eboue has been pretty much ineffective on the wing??

Why would Rosicky be pulled if Eboue is back?? Rosicky is class!

    Note to Matt: Hleb?? :D

  10. The thing with Hleb is that he doesnt look as though he enjoys scoring. Others go mental when they score (eg, Gilberto,Cesc, RVP) but he is rather nonchalant. Its not because he scores so many like Thierry did, so it appears as though he doesnt delight in hitting the back of the net. He seems happier when one of his passes lead to goals.

  11. We will play 4-4-2. Lets play more central and not fret about lack of width when that is our strength. As it is our full backs play more advance positions than most if league.

Gilberto’s absense is concern though. He is tough ther are gives us defensive cover, plus he is not light weght like some of our central midfielders. Against Blackburn he would be a miss. But our central defenders are strong, so they shud take care of physical game atleast in our field.

  12. Agree Yogi, the hypocrisy of the press never ceases to amaze me! They have pigeon-holed Arsenal and Cesc in particular as ‘light-weight’ artistes, so they hate it when we show them there is more to us than that. Do they really expect the team to sit back and take the punishment so that they can keep rolling out their tired script about how soft we are and how we can be bullied into submission?

My only concern with these media witch-hunts is that referees might start targetting Cesc as a trouble maker and booking him for every tackle.

  13. I agree that Cesc could have a bull’s-eye on his back in a ref’s mind if there’s really a belief he’s going to run around hacking people down.

But that’s not really his game. The challenge on Repka was deliberate, no doubt, and probably the result of a little Gallas inspiration to the boys up front that it was time for some payback.

Quit worrying about the media. They’ll never change. It wasn’t that long ago that they banged on and on about Vieira in particular and Arsenal in general — how many red cards we got in the Wenger era. Yet now they want us to play like ballerinas and seem offended if we grind out a result like Chelsea PLANS to do every time they take the pitch.

By the way, with all the applause for Hleb and his two goals, don’t forget that we would have had an early equalizer v Fulham if the ref had called an obvious penalty on a brilliant run into the box by Alex. He should be the architect of THREE goals already instead of just two.

Folks, I’ve seen Hleb play centrally for Belarus maybe three times and he absolutely bosses the field, causes incredible mayhem among defences and pulls all the strings. Ask the Scotland national team. Hleb had them chasing shadows and made everyone else on the pitch look foolish — and that with very little talent around him and two or three players trying to mark him at all times. He is a very, very gifted footballer and now, with a bit of confidence…

And by the way, Hleb can run all day and night. He must be the fittest guy on the planet. Jens’ throw and Baca’s run were great for our second in Prague, but remember that Alex was back defending a corner and managed to beat every other player on the field to the box at the other end. Frankly, that’s amazing stuff in the 90th minute when playing your second tough game in five days.

We will be an absolute handful for any side in Europe if the guys can stay healthy.

Remember, we lost both key strikers for MONTHS — simultaneously — last year and still finished the season strongly with the seven-game unbeaten run.

Everyone seems to forget how much talent this team really can roll out there.

I hope their memories stay fuzzy and people keep writing us off until they realize that two or three months have gone by and we’ve somehow appeared atop the table.

I have a hunch that this group will be damned hard to dislodge once they get their teeth into it.

And finally, in case everyone missed it, Gallas was simply IMMENSE against Sparta. That’s the William Gallas we were hoping to see. Total class. A winner. A leader.

And a great teacher for young lions like our new “hard man” Cesc.

  14. Im a bit worried about of defense. blackburn have great strikers mccarthy and new boy santa cruz .think he is gona be their star player. He already scored a few goals . At bayern he didnt get his change. I do think he is a really good player maybe even a 20 plus striker. And mcarthy what can u say scored the winner against us last season. just think we shoud be very careful ,i can see rovers having a good season. eboue on the wing mmm havent been impressed at al,maybe he needs more time so settle there. Hope dudu partner robin up front cause robin is not good alone opfront. Hope bendtner get a few minutes aswell

  15. Another beautifully written post YW. Pretty much agree with it all.

Passenal has more or less written what I intended to.

It was only last Sunday that that smug ‘hard man’ Alan Shearer was wheeling out the old ‘easily bullied’ tag. Let’s see how we cope again this Sunday, before getting too bullish though.

For Sunday, if there is a doubt about Eboue, then Hleb RM & Dudu in.

Farrukh – Eboue is not just an attacking midfielder, which is how a lot of people here seem to view him. Look again at the Sparta match & you will find he was putting in a lot of effective work, both defensively & attacking, in what was an ugly match that didn’t allow a lot of pure skill to flourish.

  16. I dont arsene wil bring in anther player before the end of the transfer window . I do hope we can get a young exciting winger,he doesnt have 2 be an auto 1ste team choice but at least bring us some pace and skil on the wing.we dont have a winger on our bench.think it wil do our squad wonder. do we have any good wingers in the reserve or youth teams?

  17. Glad you stuck the boot into the Media Yogi.
California Steve makes a very good point about Hleb being outstanding as a creative midfielder; I entirely agree. But I worry whether we’re getting less than full value for him by playing him out on the wing, or, two goals notwithstanding, behind the lone striker, where he ends up cramping Cesc and the team ends up getting less than full value for RvP, the lad’s hard work notwithstanding. Yes, I realise the return of Adebayor and Eduardo should see us back to 4-4-2; but even in Europe I wonder if RvP should be at the apex of a 4-5-1. Eduardo perhaps with RvP running in from the wing to score? After all he started out as a winger didn’t he?
In Cesc, Hleb and Rosicky we have three exceptionally creative Central Midfielders, question is how best are we going to accomodate them for maximum returns. Ofcourse Rosicky and Hleb adapting equally well to playing wide will be a godsend.
    We’ll see.

  18. Funny how Sparta stopped kicking us after we kicked them back wasn’t it? We won despite the 451 not because of it: in both games van Persie and Eboue have been sorely misused, against better opposition we can’t afford to employ a formation that doesn’t suit the players.

  19. To Eboue haters, I think it’s time you learn to juge the man without so much bias. On sunday, I thought Eboue did exactly what was required from him, linking up well with sagna, producing some goal scoring passes and dropping deep to help defending; that’s why you could see Sagna so relax bombing upfront, because he knows Eboue will cover him at the back.
When Eboue was playing at the back, Hleb was doing exactly the same with him. You could see that he was more effective with Hleb than when partner with Walcott for example.
football is a team game and players move around dynamicly to fill up gap wherever in order to create a strong defensive unit.
I think at the moment, with Sagna and Eboue there, our right side is the most flexible and effective pack we’ve got since the pre-season.
At Prague, I thought we were facing very clamsy team, that was ready to put in any tackle as long as they could get the ball. He wasn’t an easy game. I thought Eboue worked very hard in that game, linking up well and contibuting to our defensive wall. I know you will see his contibution only when he makes a cross that leads to a goal.

  20. California Steve

Just wanted to say that I saw the Scotland v Belarus game too and I agree with you; Hleb was absolutely awesome. I seem to remember someone in the media giving him a 10 out of 10 rating for that performance and you couldn’t disagree.

Ever since that day, when our own supporters have been slagging him off, I always refrain, however badly he might have played. Once you know that a player is capable of monster performances, it is just a matter of finding a way to make them happen often. Moving Hleb into the middle seems to have been the key to unlocking his potential.

  21. I think when Adebayor and Edouardo are back, a formation of 4-3-3 would suit us:

    -Lehman.

    -Sagna- Toure- Gallas- Clichy.

    -Fabregas- Gilberto(or Denilson)- Flamini(or Rosicky).

-Rvp(or Eboue)- Eduardo(or Bentner) – Adebayor (or Hleb).

  22. hackajack

I have a theory on that point.

When you play the likes of Bolton, Blackburn, Sheffield United and they chase you, close you down and generally harry you until you lose possession, they get a chance to regain their composure and take a breather when they have possession of the ball. This allows them to keep up that game plan for long periods of time.

If, on the other hand, you return the compliment and chase and harry them too, the game goes at a frantic pace for a short while and then calms down, as no-one can keep that level of activity and focus for long.

I think that is what we saw on Wednesday. We gave as much back as we got and Sparta then started to think about how they could alleviate the pressure on them, rather than continue to apply it to us.

  23. well if eboue does not make it then it should be:
    Jens
    Sagna Toure gallas Clichy
    Rosicky Denilson cesc Hleb
    Eduardo RVP

anything else, eg Flamini in there or Hleb on the right, would not be as strong IMO.

  24. gazzap, it will be Flamini for Denilson if Fabregas plays, which makes a physical contribution (balance).
I agree with your line up apart from above.

  25. Great article…I agree! It was ok for the ManU thugs i.e. Neville bros. et al to kick Arsenal off the park and for Rooney to do a swan dive when Sol didn’t even touch him (as per the numerous angle replays) to get a penalty in that infamous 49th game at Old Trafford.

Amazing how something is good for one and then not good for the other. Repka wanted to and tried roughing us up, instead he got roughed up. So Repka is in the right. How do you figure that one?

It’s about survival, the name of the game and if Repka had that attitude/mindset going into the game, he could have really hurt someone causing a freak injury, leaving a player out 6 months, even for the season.

Well Mr. “So call Hardman” Repka as you sow you bin sheared and reaped. Hope you have learnt your lesson for the next time.

  26. Fantastic result against Sparta, Can’t remember a game like it last year. I think we showed some real maturity. Repka has and always will be a dirty prat. Can’t believe the flak Cesc is getting. I hope AW gives Bendnter more game time. He really did make a difference when he came on against Fulham. I think we will struggle to get 3 points at Blackburn, if we do then that will be a top draw result. Surely after the knock he took, McCarthy won’t play!!!

  27. eboue , if stated by the club as DOUBTFUL for a start , i should imagine you will not see him . arsene likes to rest his players
,even if marginally under an injury cloud . and YES Farrukh,
eboue is wandering around like a square peg in a round hole ..
sell him now and get a REAL RIGHT MIDFEILDER .
look at the sagna purchase .. the right defence looks so much more stable since his arrival . and in the fulham game he created far more chances than his right sided comrade . im sure eboue might be suffering from lack of confidence , but sell him now and get a class replacement , and the team will be better for it .. his touch of the game at the 14.40 minute mark against fulham , was a simple give away, i was watching him wandering around , it was woeful .

and flint people still veiw him as a failing right back !
so god knows why you would state everyone see’s him as a att midfeilder .. he hasnt done anything special to warrent himself as an established member on the right wing.. or att midfeild for that matter ..
if we dont purchase any more new players walcott should be groomed in this area quickly .. he possesses pace and
acceleration and will easily make the position his.. what he
lacks in body strength he makes up for in speed . Also playing bentner in this position might give arsene options, i know it isnt an ideal spot for the young lad but if it was good enough for TH14 its good enough for bentner..

  28. I think that for many of the Arsene Wenger years at Arsenal, the media, referees & the FA have consistently treated our players – Vieira in particular – a lot harsher those of other teams, who in my view have been allowed to get away with murder on many occasions…step forward Wayne Rooney.

I hope that Arsene has a game plan on Sunday for dealing with the height of Roque Santa Cruz & Chris Samba, and the thuggish play of both Savage & that Turkish midfielder whose name currently escapes me.

You can be sure that Hughes will use these “weapons” against us anyway he can to gain an advantage.

  29. I personally rate Eboue as a very talented footballer, but reckon that he looks a lost cause as a right hand midfield player.
His game relies on speed to go past people which in his current position is hard. He will first have to create space for himself before charging forward. Not sure the boy got that ability. I can only see him succeed in midfield if he manages to get himself into positions where he can shoot, a little bit like Lampard. Now he is not exactly there yet. Wouldnt sell him though.. he is too talented for that.

I cannot see Walcott being any more useful on that same side.
I think his football intelligence isnt exactly there yet.Speed will not help him as long as his brain makes him run into the wrong positions.. alittle bit what Hleb does to himself on a bad day with his corner flag dribblings..

we need 2 decent forward players .. and quickly before we meet the big guys .. this is a season where our absolute level of quality in attack looks inferior to Chelsea/ManU/Liverpool .. this concerns me
we are short players already .. remember VP11 alone upfront .. not only does he look distinctly average when played this way, but I also think that it is not exactly a confidence booster for him ..

ideally I would say buy Diarra (doubtful, but he is rated in France slightly ahead of Diaby)) plus 2 top forwards..

one thing reg Bergy’s comments about Santa Cruz, he had his chancesssssssss at Bayern, but the guy is nowhere near a 20+ striker and this for one very simple reason .. he aint fukking good enough.. plus he is always injured.. n’est-ce-pas Thomas Rosicky?

this btw shouldnt take anything away from the boys showing good team spirit and I wholeheartedly agree with AW to give Gallas the armband .. he is screaming for recognition, so now that he got it, hopefully he will kick a few of the youngsters up their backside if they take things too easily .. well done Arsene

  30. Only talking here about Cesc.
I think that all football players should be forced to start a Fantasy Football team. Then they’ll start caring about who gets credited with the assists.

I wonder what an egotistical footballer would say is the better feeling …
    1) Scoring a scrappy goal, that takes a deflection, from inside the six yard box, then not doing anything for the rest of the game.

    OR

    2) Hitting three splendidly accurate passes to set up team mates for goals.

I for one would pick the latter.

  31. I’m heading to the Blackburn game on Sunday and I can’t wait to take a look at Eduardo. I’ve got a feeling about this player, the same feeling I had when Bobby Pires signed. (not homo-erotic feelings either, purely footballing) Just from the first few glimpses we’ve seen of him he looks a right player. If he gets a good start he could go on to help us mount a serious title challenge. I also think the one player he’ll enjoy playing with more than any is Denilson. Apart from them both being Brazilian, Denilson could provide plenty of ammo for him during the year as I think he’s a lot quicker to play the ball over the top into space then Cesc. Da Silva thrives on them passes. That said, it will probably only come into fruition when Cesc heads to Madrid next year for 40mil!

  32. bb .

    spot on son !

we need 2 decent forward players .. and quickly before we meet the big guys .. this is a season where our absolute level of quality in attack looks inferior to Chelsea/ManU/Liverpool .. this concerns me

try telling that to the tinted brigade here ..
you get subjected to abuse and then when you return the
complements , you get stopped in your tracks ..

ac milans Yoann Gourcuff is one player for the future , his natural position is central to midfeild, but he’s french and has talented . Its amazing arsene hasnt made him a priority signing.

  33. I think Yoann is someone we definately dont need, he has scored 7 goals in 96 Senior Appearances which is not great even for a kid

If we do make make more signings and I hope we do, they need to be ready made, Quality and experienced.

We already have some good young strikers coming through in Sunu and Vela to name a couple so I think Gourcuff will be a no go. All I can see now is Anelka or Martins as every other decent player that has been linked is cup tied for the Champions League or has already been transferred.

  34. i see surprse surprise, rosicky is out already with an injury. hopefully walcott will play, not that i can see he has any other options. we really do need some reinforcements. you have to assume on average there will be 5 players missing for whatever reason for every game, (let alone in january for the ANC!!!) and if you look at tomorrows squad it is very thin again. bench will have, senderos, bendtner, flam or denilson and probably hoyte, they really need a few more players please!!!!!!

  35. blackburn could be a tricky game withpout Eboue, Ade and Gilberto. I hope Eboue is back. for all his lack of creativity he does in fact stiffen up the right hand side. I dont want Hleb playing down the right for Arsenal again.

Santa Cruz is 6ft3 and scored 1 in 5 at bayern and has now scored 2 in 2 for Blackburn so is red hot. I happen to think he will score against us. a physical team and a big centre forward, are things we have traditionally struggled with. we love to keep them quie though. so we will need two and RVP will certainly need a partner up front to do that. I want to see at least something of Bendtner as well. he is big and powerful and they wont like that.

  36. Pat

Anelka, Martins and any other players are not cuptied unless they have played in European Competition for another team this season. There was a Player Registration deadline last week for the Qualifying Stages and there is another deadline for the CL proper on 1st September.

    YW

  37. Dan

Where did you see that about Rosicky?

With Eboue out too, that does highlight the lack of depth on the wings, I guess Walcott will start right and Hleb left with no options on the Bench. I hope we dont resort to playing Flamini, Diaby and Denilson out there again, they are not wingers in any way.

I still think Wenger is looking though, and I still think that the decision on who may be resting on the Robben deal to Real Madrid.

  38. just read this “Arsenal will be without midfielder Tomas Rosicky (knee) and winger Emmanuel Eboue (ankle) for the trip to Blackburn on Sunday.

Summer signing Eduardo da Silva could make his debut following a minor ankle problem, but is unlikely to start”.

Ros is injured AGAIN! please he will never kick on if he cant stay fit and he was not even getting stuck the other night and so Eboue is def out as we thought. Not sure about the line say dudu is unlikely to start. how do they know that? If thats the case then I wonder if Flam will be on the right wing? alternative is walcott on right and Hleb left with Bendtner up front. could see Hleb behind RVP once more I feel.
I still put us down to do well on Sunday.

  39. it has been on few web sites already. i think people expecting an anelka or martins purchase are absolutely kidding themselves, it simply isn’t going to happen, wenger has said time and time again that he will not be buying a forward. per his interview on arsenal.com i do not think he will be buying anyone else.

if he doesn’t play walcott and puts one of the centre midfielders out there i am sorry to say it contradicts everything he has said about the kids being ready, the likes of walcott and bendtner need to play or he can not use them as a reason not to sign any new players.

  40. eduardo will play, he simply has no other options. he has already said bendtner is not ready to play.

  41. Well if Eboue and now Rosicky are out then Eduardo has to start doesnt he.

    Jens
    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
    Hleb Cesc Denilson Flamini
    VanP Eduardo

    or

    Jens
    Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
    Theo Cesc Denilson Hleb
    VanP Eduardo

  42. unfortunatley i think flam will play in front of walcott, as wenger loves flam and doesn’t trust walcott

  43. Rosicky is always injured ..simple as that
ask Dortmund and when he plays, he very often plays shiit..against Sparta, he was so poor, it was hardly watchable
he’s the kind of guy who has 2 good games a season and then everybody raves about him ..that worked well when he was 17 but now maybe just maybe he needs to show his talent more regularly.. I never felt he was made for the premier league..in fact, when some rumours surfaced about him going to Inter/Atletico, I thought that it would be good riddance
let somebody pay up for him .. now dont get me wrong, its probably not his fault that he gets injured, but……………………

we are so short players already, its hardly believable ..
this is two games into the season .. and has actually anybody taken notice how much strengthening has taken place this year in the league .. this is gonna be a struggle without more and better players
by all means, I am not slagging off our current squad
lets just realize that Chelsea’s right back position is judged not to be “chelsea” standard with Johnson .. and they are buying Alves to replace him .. maybe we should sell them Hoyte
there is no way we can succeed within this context and our current squad .. and surely not after 2 games where we misplay VP11 due to lack of players available, finish Fulham off in the 93rd minute and struggle against Sparta without showing great footballing qualities
Drogba scored a goal against Reading that not so long ago, the only guy capable of scoring these ones in the premier league was yes TH14 .. and now we play VP11 isolated who gets kicked around .. Blackburn coming after Sparta .. I am sure that he must look forward to a few more kicks.. so he gets injured and then who do we put there next?

its blatantly obvious that we need more players .. and no kids anymore .. established pros with a track record such as a Malouda.. now look at him, he doesnt get injured very often and scores and makes runs and is tried and tested, but he costs 13 mln .. so what?? Rather buy him than pay 11 for Babel who is untried and untested

Gourcuff not sure havent seen him enough.. I would buy Anelka plus a winger .. and Diarra if we get him

  44. wenger said that eduardo not likely to start, so who the hell knows who plays, hopefully bedtner, but probably not, then i assume 5 in midfield with denislon and flamini. i suppose one of walcott or bendtner has to start if eduardo doesn’t, or if we are really lucky the 5 in midfield could be flam, fab, helb, denilson and song, behind rvp. exciting stuff!!!!

  45. The loss of injury prone Rosicky shows how weak the squad is in the wide position. Walcott has so far been useless and Tugay and Savadge would anihilate him. Hleb is much better in themiddle than on the wing, so who does that leave? Bendner is strong so even if he doesnt start he should come on after 60 minutes jsut to help RVP who gets pissed off when things dont go right.

Lets hope that Song is not on the bench.

  46. we need two wingers, but that aint gonna happen.

  47. dan it will be Luka Modric
we hold rofr on him .. plus he looks unsettled so i think if it would be anyone it would be him …(he plays left – and central)

pat , i was meaning future star Yoann, have you noticed we are pretty light on up and comming talent now .. it seems that phase is over ..

  48. sol goon ,

i disagree with walcott getting eaten alive .. i think for the time he was given in the fulham game , he made 3 or 4 runs and had a chain of shooting attempts.. i think the boy has the goods .. not so sure why arsene sheilds him so much ..
maybe he doesnt want the transfer costs to go up on him :)

but i think he looked solid against fulham .. and we are talking about the EPL now .. blackburn definately have more talent …
and at home will be hard to beat … this will gauge the measuring stick (but on paper we still should be WINNERS).. we will see what they are made of shortly ..

  49. TBH Rosicky’s record with injuries is quite baffling. This is his second stint with injury this season as he was out for a bit during pre-season. I know it is frustrating for him too but at this rate it won’t take long before the murmurings turn to open ‘revolt’ so to speak. He just can’t be playing 2 games and then misses next four ad infinitum. How is he ever fit into the team/build partnerships if he is forever injured. You have to ask if AW was aware TR was injury prone when he bought him.

That said, could it be there’s something wrong at the club? It is the first week of the season and already six players are out? There was a time such as with the ‘invincibles’ where hardly anyone got injured. And given that Gallas criticized the medical team for mis handling his injury last season I just begin to wonder….

  50. And what is it with this Gilberto ‘fatigue ‘ business? What did Bert do in Copa America that is so unusual? He did not even play in the final. Elano played each single match for Brazil, Tevez and Mascherano played in the final… Why should Bert be out till next month when we really could do with him tomorrow. Even guys who had a normal summer did not rest that long!

I might be paranoid but I hope AW is not planning on disposing of Bert. Unfortunately history suggests maybe this could be the case ( remember the prevarication with Lauren, all the excuses?).Add this to the way the captaincy thing was handled, there is probably more to this situation than meets the eye.

  51. I cant see Gilberto leaving, but it if he is then that would explain the Diarra links.

Looks like we are a bit threadbare at the weekend

I really hope we dont play Flamini, Diaby or Denilson left wing. Oviously it is too late to get one in before the weekend but my choice is Walcott RM and Hleb LM but I cant see that happening if it is true that Dudu is starting on the bench.

I am sure Wenger is looking at the Winger situation but I am getting concerned, there is not a lot of transfer window left. We can cuff it worst case with Rosicky but he does seem a bit injury prone. I dont even see it happening in the game, I wonder if he is a bit of a girl when it comes to a slight knock.

I say again, we are in serious trouble if VP11 gets injured and he does get kicked a lot so fingers crossed.

  52. We’re not the only team with injury problems at the moment. I don’t recall so many injuries across so many team this early in the season. Whatever is going on is not just confined to AFC.

  53. I would have thought Hleb will move to RM, Denilson LM, with Eduardo/Bentner supporting RVP.

Perhaps Bentner may start with Eduardo getting half an hour or visa verse. Walcott could also come into the equation.

Another option maybe Traore at LB with Clichy LM. Arsene has tried this before & it worked reasonably ok.

We will have a decent side out & have plenty of options so our squad is not so thin.

A draw wouldn’t actually be a bad result but a win would obviously give a lot of confidence.

Blackburn have been under way longer than us because of the Inter Toto. That can make a difference at this stage of the season. They will pay for that later on of course.

  54. Modric did play for Dinamo Zagreb in Bremen, so he is cup tied, BB.

The could also be a work permit issue with him.

Have you seen much of him?

  55. [...] Fabregas And Early Weekend Team News Cesc has, it seems, adopted a similar philosophy that Robert Pires held dear to his heart, namely that providing goals […] [...]

  56. would Luka Modric be available to play for us in the champions league? I didnt check, but I guess that he played for Zagreb against Bremen??
Osakajap ..Denilson got a knack on his ankle in preseason
Diaby had a big ankle injury the year before last as we all know, Ade is groin so different and Rosicky is a permanent state of affairs
so nothing sinister to read into this me thinks
personally I think that Gilberto is not for sale and as nice a guy as he is, he is not captain material.. Gallas is your French John Terry minus the bookies and the hookers .. so much more suited than our soft spoken Brazilian
    AW buy some bloody players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  57. Hmm, I personally expect Hleb on the left and Walcott on the right, if Dudu starts. But if he doesn’t then Hleb will be back behind the striker with Denilson somewhere in the midfield.

I’m actually curious to see how the squad deals with these injuries, and Blackburn is a good team to test the true strength of the squad against. So it’s a match I’m looking forward to it.

  58. I found this on a South American Website, it appears to be quotes from Wilson Palacios’s Family. he is the Midfielder (Right-sided!!! but we need left) that was apparently on trial last week

THE CEIBA. The uncertainty that distressed to the family Palaces in the Ceiba, not to have the news of its whereabouts in the old world became happiness when Wilson called to his father and she informed to them on his whereabouts: London, England.

The talented mediocampista of the Olimpia is near filing for “gunners” of Liga Premier of England and are few the details, according to confirmed its father to him, so that it is possible to be with the equipment of Arsene Wenger.

“He called Monday to Us in afternoon, alleviating to us of the desperation that we had in house, but it is and cheers, and made the medical examinations and physical very well that they demand in Europe to know if it remains of once in the Arsenal”, mentioned to Eulogio CHRONOMETER Palaces, father of Wilson.

On the previous experiences that his son in Belgrade and Monaco lived, his papa mentioned that factors as economic in the case of the Red Star and the cupos for the extracommunitarian ones in France, they were the impediments that they truncated he happens of his son in anyone of these clubs. It is translated so excuse the wordings

    WENGER THIS CONTENTMENT

Wilson has caused good impression in the technical body of the London club, according to commented his son to him, Arsene Wenger is contented with the work that is making and could fill the space that in mediocampo left the Swedish Ljunberg.

“Those are Already five days that it has to be in London, they did the examinations to him and if these leave positives, our son will remain playing for the Arsenal. This defines Wednesday today or tomorrow Thursday” confirmed “Shovel to us”.

His father mentioned that at this moment they have not spoken of the economic aspects with Wilson, “this is not important for us, which I want is that my son remains playing in England. The probabilities of remaining are many.” And to finalize it mentioned that with the profits obtained by Wilson in Honduras always it lodged the hope of which his son saturates in a great club of the world.

Obviously it is not on Arsenal.com yet so no need to get the shirts printed just yet (Not as if you would, I have never heard of him) it also appears as the info although posted today seems to be based on events during last week, maybe they are waiting for a Work Permit

  59. No Post today Yogi?

  60. Just done – we have a surplus of water outside the house which required my attention this morning.
