The Replacements

Not to be absolutely certain is, I think, one of the essential things in rationality.

– Bertrand Russell

Russell was obviously never an Arsenal fan because the one absolute certainty at this moment in time is the overwhelming sense of doom, perpetuated by the media, and some irrational fears coming through. The situation is what it is. And Life Goes On. What is done, is done, and now we start a new era.

Who that era involves is unknown. Alan Smith hit the nail on the head yesterday when he noted that Henry exerted, either accidentally or purposely, a huge influence over the young players in the team. In the same way that George Graham’s team became overly reliant on Ian Wright, the current squad were overly reliant on Henry. When they lost their ‘talisman’, they struggled to score. In confirming the transfer, Arsenal’s hand was forced. The Club had wanted a lid kept on the deal until next week when they believed that they would have secured a replacement. That should be taken as an encouraging sign as there are few ‘big’ transfers that happen quickly, worked on for weeks before signing. It is not quite proof positive of a spending spree but a step in the right direction.

The media circus has moved into overdrive now, as was expected. Eulogies for Henry – he deserves them for his actions on the pitch – and anguishes over Wenger and the future of the Club, not through a sense of any concern for its future, simply because ‘bad news’ sells. That is what we, as supporters, need to bear in mind. There won’t be a ‘good’ news report about the Club for months, simply because whoever is signed will be deemed to be ‘disruptive’ (Anelka), untried in the Premiership (Huntelaar, Torres, Babel), injury risk (Owen), African Cup of Nations bound (Martins) and in all cases, probably not as good as Henry; that is the media reality, one that we have to push aside.

The current favourite with Bookies is Owen; the media favour Anelka, followed by a Huntelaar / Babel double bill with Martins coming up on the rails due to a £13m release clause. You and I have our favourites or more likely those we don’t want. Personally, I have grave reservations about Anelka. Big ones. I am not convinced by his return to the Premiership. Remove the two Arsenal games from the equation, he scored eight in thirty three last season. That seems a risky investment yet part of that return will have been the style of Bolton’s play, with his reliance on pace being perhaps more suited to Arsenal than The Reebok. Martins I was impressed with when I saw him but signing him would mean two of the forward line going to the African Cup of Nations next year. Can we really afford to have a similar situation as this season past, two forwards out? What if one of the others is missing beforehand through injury and will be out whilst the ACN is taking place? One fit forward? I don’t think Arsene will risk it. Carlos Tevez? Is he your idea of a thirty goal a season man, or anywhere near that? Not for me; he is more a Bergkamp replacement. Whichever of the signings the media make a case for though, you can find a weakness, a reason for it not to happen. It is whether or not that weakness is substantial enough to deter Le Boss that counts.

There is speculation that Wenger’s own future will preclude any ‘decent’ player signing for us. I do not subscribe to that view, especially if there is a non-English player signing. They all know the precarious nature of the Managers Role. Look at Manchester United and Arsenal then cast your gaze to the Continent. Name one other side in the top two Groups of Seeds in the Champions League where there is a Coach having served even half of their length of service. I cannot think of one. The players are much more used to a ‘hire and fire’ mentality, to the extent that I doubt if they even look beyond the end of the coming season when talking to a Coach about a transfer. The youngsters such as Cesc are different; Wenger is all that they have known, to whom they owe their careers so far. That is understandable but a naive view – the innocence of youth.

It is going to make for an interesting Summer after all although time will tell whether or not we wished for a quiet one.

  1. I’m just hoping that our players see this as an opportunity to step-out of the great man’s shadow and cast their minds back to some of their greatest performances last season when Thierry was not there. They need to believe in themselves and they also need us to believe in them. They are quality players in their own right and they deserve to be at a great club like Arsenal. Maybe we can capitalise on this view that we are nothing without Henry and really show people how wrong they are to write us off now.

  2. Nice one both of ya. I second the thought that we can show people their bad assessment that Arsenal is in demise following Henry’s departure. It will somehow play in our favour, but only if the players put in 100% in every game. If there is holding back, thinking too much, crying over Henry than we’re in for a long one. However, if everyone’s head is right, taking into account that we will actually HAVE a captain now, and that teams will take us a bit lightly underestimating us and all, we might be up there at the end of the season. Wenger will surely add a couple of high quality players, and I hope Ade doesn’t go to ACN. And I reckon Wenger will stay on beyond 2008. Just a thought.

  3. …and I guess we can start removing TH from our blog pics 😛

  4. I’m neither for nor against Anelka because I have only watched him play in a couple of games. But I suppose his low goalscoring record last year may be due to the style of big sam’s Bolton. I wonder even Totti the golden boot would have had a low scoring record if he had played for that team.

  5. I really don’t see AW leaving unless next season ends trouphyless and he believes he’s taken the club as far as he can. look at Real/Barca talking about their managers despite one having won the championship and the other wining 2 titles & CL in the last 3 seasons. TH wasn’t a natural leader and I think wanted to operate in a Galactico environment I wish him the best he was the best player to don an Arsenal shirt but I think he will find the adjustment difficult particularly as the next 4 years will inevitably see the decline in his powers.

I think there is a lot in him holding back younger players, watching the team last season there were times when no one took responsibility they were too used to passing to TH14, for fear of getting a scowl. So much so that it was the same even when he wasn’t on the pitch. I think we’ve lost a talent but will benefit as a team.

  6. Quite right about the younger players needing to step out of Henry’s shadow. In retrospect Wenger was clearly giving them the space to do that at the end of last season with the enforced resting of Henry.

I’ve felt for a couple of seasons that he was too dominant; in some captains that can be a positive force but TH is not a motivator and seems to bear a grudge if you pass to anyone but him. Gilberto will make a far better captain (he proved it last season) and the coach now has the opportunity to rebalance the team.

Last point: TH came to us at the age of 21 having failed in Italy. Look what he became. The boss is now assembling a whole squad of players that age who can become as great as Thierry has. We just need to keep the momentum going and not allow a sense of gloom to destabilise the master plan. Another forward, a bit more width, and we will be unstoppable.

  7. id love to see the ajax pair of huntelaar and babel coming to arsenal.

fernando torres is something id love to see but he is unproven in the premiership

but i can see a double signing of anelka and babel in the next week.

michael owen would be a good signing but we have the best physio’s and equipment so we can handle him

  8. Good post Yogi, though I’m not as sanguine as you are about the effect of Wenger’s uncertain future on good quality targets.
Wenger’s silence, in my view, is to his credit. I don’t share the critical views that have been doing the rounds demanding a statement of intent, one way or another, from him.
I feel that there are a lot of issues Wenger needs to clear with the board regarding their ability to deliver the material backing for his future plans. He’s within his rights not to indicate his decision till such issues are sorted out. And he’s right not to discuss differences, if any, in public.
I think the board haven’t dealt well at all with the Stan Kroenke situation.
Except for the odd blathering by PHW, we haven’t heard a clear statement that explains what reservations, if any, the board entretain regarding the takeover; what were the concerns discussed with Kroenke when they recently met him; and what the way forward is.
My earlier posts should make it clear that I’m not a blind believer in takeovers and in throwing money around indiscriminately in the pursuit of success. That said, in the present climate, when every club up and down the premiership is the target of a takeover, Arsenal will not long be left alone, unless global economic conditions turn for the worse.
We at the moment don’t know if the board have legitimate reservations about Kroenke’s plans, or whether they are simply holding the fort for Danny Fitzman till his tax exile status comes effective.
I have shared neither the pro-dean or pro-board stands that have been doing the rounds. I don’t think we know enough to comment with any authority.
Was Dean compelled to go “behind the backs” of the board because all they were doing was holding the fort for Danny Fitzman, at a time when Dean felt any delay could have serious repurcussions?
After all it could well be Danny Fitzman’s belief that the club can manage another year without any major injection of funds without seriously losing its share value. It is a gamble, but it is a gamble that puts his interest above the club’s.
I reserve my views about this board: A clear cut statement that details their view of, and response to, the Kroenke situation, and their success in convincing Wenger to sign a contract extension will be the test of their ability and intentions to me.
I come from the view, ofcourse, that Wenger, given the key role he has played in reshaping the club, will not leave unless he really feels he can’t get the backing he needs.
This season will be interesting both on and off the field.
We Arsenal fans indeed live in “interesting times”.

  9. It’s refreshing to hear some intelligent comment rather than the knee-jerk reaction stupidness on some message boards.
I think the team will grow, and while I will miss the special moments Thierry brought, I hope the others will grow. We have had so many players who have become ‘world class’ after starting indifferently – Henry and Bergkamp included.

I for one hope Wenger signs someone we either haven’t really heard of, or someone who we are not expecting to be the answer. Bergkamp was struggling at Inter, Henry struggling at Juve, Vieira not really known, nor Manu etc etc. He needs to show us HIS talent again.

If Wenger goes – then I’ll be worried.

  10. I agree with Karthic that the board have not handled things well. THEY MUST ISSUE A STATEMENT CLARIFYING THE FUTURE AND IF POSSIBLE CLARIFY THAT OUR DEBT REPAYMENTS ARE 16 MILLION A YEAR, AND NOT THE USUAL NONSENSE THAT FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE. ALSO DEIN AND KROENKE SHOULD STATE THEIR POSITION, I BELIEVE HILL WOOD WILL RETIRE AS CHAIRMAN AND DEIN WILL REPLACE HIM BY NEXT MAY, AND KROENKE IS NOT AS BAD AS HE WAS
PORTRAYED AND WILL TAKE OVER NEXT YEAR, ONCE HE GIVES ALL THE GUARANTEES HES MENTIONED RECENTLY

  11. TH was brilliant for us but good luck to him in Barcelona. I wish Eto’o had come in a swap deal but thats life I guess. Now the team really needs to move forward with a new captain and hopefully a new attitude.

I doubt Wenger will buy more than one striker considering he has Ade / RVP / Bentdner / Theo. Taking back Anelka or buying Owen would be perhaps too risky.

I feel he will only buy 2 players this summer:

    (1) Klass Jan Huntelaar is the striker I’m hoping for. He is a terrific young striker who has a brilliant goalscoring record (36 goal in 51 appearances last season). From the little I have seen of him I think he could score loads of goals for Arsenal in a variety of ways.

    (2) Ryan Babel is an athletic fast winger. His ball control and the general fluidity of his movements remind me of a young TH. I feel his poor goalscoring record (7 in 37) will improve when he plays with better players and as he matures.

The main problem is that experienced proven goalscorers come at a price that AFC have consistently been unwilling to spend. It wouldn’t surprise me if we do not buy anyone and just hoard the money. It has happened before! Cynical I know but I want to see some action in the transfer market before I get my hopes up.

  12. Ashley Dowsett

I can only say good luck and good bye.. and thanks for some fantastic memories. I do not begrudge TH14 for leaving.. new challenges afoot.. We have to realise that professional footballers are not fans.. they do not have the same loyality to the club.. its a job.. a great one at that.. you and I and the rest of the die heart fans.. of which ever club you support.. could not think of waking up one day after years of loyal support.. and think.. must start supporting Manchester United.. so we should not be surprised.. I just wish TH had just said something along the lines of “Its time to go.. I have one more move left.. and although its a tough decision its right for me and Arsenal.. like many of you have said before me.. this Mr Dean rubbish.. is just that.. Mr Dean does not play along side.. and also the thing about Wenger possibly not being there beyond next season.. well by going now neither Mr Dean or Mr Wenger will be at his next club next year.. thats a definite.. life does go on.. It could be worse.. you could support Spurs!! Good luck TH.. The King is Dead.. Long live the King..

  13. We clearly dont know enough about the board to adopt a “final status attitude”. There are considerable contradictions in recent events:
    – why did Fiszman sell 659 shares to Kroenke when he is supposed to be against the latter taking over AFC; did he only find out later on what his fiscal position was?? doubt it
    – Fiszman/PHW rubbishing a US takeover strategy and then hopping off to the States to start negotiations with Kroenke
    – rumours that Fiszman has a middle-eastern investor up its sleeves

I think that the board is currently dominated by DF. Lady BS is disinterested, PHW is a fool and should be sacked for his racist/stupid comments against Kroenke – he sits on the board of a listed company, lets be serious and whatever Kroenke’s merits are – and the only power fighting DF was Dein and DF shrewdly aligned himself with all the other members to get rid of Dein.

It appears unavoidable that Kroenke will buy AFC.
Indeed it looks like PHW went over to meet with him in order to offer the same pact that the other board members bar Dein have signed. Kroenke flatly refused but in the sort time it makes his purchase strategy more complex as he kind of agrred to “disassociate” himself from Dein.

As far as share price is concerned, I cannot see any significant event on the immediate horizon that would cause it to tumble.
Even a dire 07/08 season will not have a considerable impact as the takeover story will only hotten up with each bad result.
This again tends to clearly play into Fiszman’s hands.

AW will NOT commit himself unless he understands and feels comfortable with the board’s intentions. This will drag on long into next season with all its negative implications.

TH is not a rational player/person – who is – and should not be harshly judged for leaving. I would have left as I was him.
He scored 30% of AFC goals over the course of his career and will be missed in the premiership. He owes nothing to nobody.

There are far too many John Terry grafter type players rather than technically able characters in this league. Shame that one of them had to go and on top of that the most able one of his generation who had to play for AFC.

As far as replacements are concerned, I tend to listen to the rumours coming out of France and Anelka looks a hot one right now.

  14. As for the Kroneke situation.

As Dein and Kroenke own around 25% if they make a statement of intent or are seen to be operating together they have to amke a formal takeover bid which at the moment would fail as the current board control 50% plus.

As for the board making an official statement Fiszman has said and widely reported he is not against working with outside investors, but what he is not for is a highly leveraged buy out of the club ala Hicks, Glazer at al because the maths don’t make any sense.

Wenger isn’t a big name buyer never has been never will be so get over it. An injection of large scale funds was more likely to be in conjunction with a Ericksson type appointment (Dein is also very friendly with him). I have yet to see any big name players (TH excepted) moving clubs. I think the diffculty comes when mid price targets such as SWP are bought by other clubs for well over the price we are willing to pay.

  15. BB Hill-Wood was due to step down this year but has stayed on because of the takeover, I think Fiszman stance is that DD should never be chairman, they fell out over a business deal. Hill-Wood is not anti-american his son in-law is a Yank. His comments were inappropriate but prompted by the way Kroneke bought his stake in the club, it would have been better if he had approached the club directors (other than DD) with his intentions before he bought ITV’s stake.

  16. If we can get 10 mil for Reyes we have more then enough money to seriously strengthen the squad without actually having spent a penny. 16 mil henry,10 mil reyes,4 mil muamba,2 mil aliadiere it is 32 mil in transfer fees.10 mil Anelka,6 mil babel,6 mil sagna and we still have money for a class a defender. It is looking good guys.Furthermore question marks are on Ljungberg (transfer Fee/ no transfer fee) and Senderos both could potentially be sold and bring in more trasfer fees ???? .Lastly there is the 40 mil overdraft account we could potentially yse 5 or 10 mil there and our kitty would something like 40 mil.

  17. vivb – I agree with the threshold problematic .. at the mom, Kroenke is not in a position to strike yet
there will be constant manoeuvering this upcoming season by both parts because it is likely that at the end of next season a take over battle will commence
the most optimistic scenario for 07/08 would be that the two sides reach a modus operandi in the next 12 months and can define a model to run the club in the future under whatever ownership
i didnt accuse PHW of being a racist per se, just somebody who as a board member and from a “reasonable” background should know better about chosing his words
even if Kroenke’s approach was slightly behind everybody’s back apart Dein’s obviously, he could have shown a more etonian approach towards it
as far as biz dealings btw Dein and DF are concerned, you mention a falling out .. could you elaborate on this one??
also I agree with you on the inflated prices that English half talent fetches in current markets .. remember we bought Gilberto in 2002 as a world cup winner for 4.5M !!
unlikely to happen in the future ..
I just sincerely hope that AW doesnt look at the Bundesliga again for reinforcements as neither Hleb nor Rosicky look like they got it in themselves to bring the club forward

  18. The teams that invairiably win the championship have more than a out and out 20 a year man in the ranks (obvious I know). Man U last year being the most recent example and they lost VanN. Hope, if there is any, for us. I think TH going may open us up to the team playing even more fluidly and hopefully the youth hitting the back of the net with new confidence next season. I have a feeling we will see more influence from Rosicky if fit and still think Bendtner will be the big bonus in the year ahead.

Great posts from Karthic and BB.
I have the feeling Kroenke is the excepted future but intresting observations into the dark dealing and mutterings of whos back stabbibg who!
The Launch of the Old Highbury coinsides with DF assumed selling of shares next year too. I think its the usual slow Arsenal process of putting together the jigsaw in private that makes the press comment and frown with the lack of true informantion.

  19. IF Anelka returns will it be because Dein has gone, surely something that would not have been considered without his departure?

  20. we have no control of the boardroom antics and after reading
all that blah blah blah . and then you guys say im a bit of a dreamer .

One things for sure arsene is a top class manager, love him hate him (and by the last 3 seasons and letting henry go ,
i would say his time is comming to a close, he probly wants a fresh start and he’s drawn between what he started AND GLORY OF SPAIN). kronke’s money would come in handy . and this board is more about saving ‘more money for them’ than actually winning titles . ITS FOOTBALL . on the pitch . Take overs or no takeovers who really cares? do we really care if the yank gets 30% ? or more ?
He seems like a smart cookie when it comes to sporting management and ownership . 3 of the other top 4 clubs have gone in that direction .. We are the odd ones out and if that aint telling you something , what is ?
Either that or we stay english owned and move down the table where the english clubs are !!! or we get a fresh business partner and can finally give us the backing and with the new stadium as a bonus to compete for the future

. then people are worried about a ticket price hike etc.. god it never ends .. well all i can say to that is who is going to come to a stadium to watch us draw or loose every week?

we need arsenes commitment or we just hire ramos as our new manager .. that will probly keep fabs here too !

as for yogis question of who do we get to replace the legend th14 .. well i think we go no further than looking through last seasons top scorers

    Team

    TOT
    Drogba Chelsea 21
    McCarthy Blackburn 19
    Ronaldo Man Utd 17
    Viduka Middlesbro’ 16
    Bent Charlton 14
    Doyle Reading 14
    Rooney Man Utd 14
    Berbatov Tottenham 13
    Keane Tottenham 12
    Kuyt Liverpool 12
    Yakubu Middlesbro’ 12
    Anelka Bolton 11
    Johnson Everton 11
    Lampard Chelsea 11
    Martins Newcastle 11

i think Benedict McCarthy would seem a natural choice
he scored an average of 15 goals a season for porto as well prior to here .. and im sure he’d like champions league
football ,ok theres an age issue he’s the same age as th14
but if he can bring us 19 goals a season ,maybe more playing for us .. we patch the hole up . and id say realistically he isnt worth more than 5 or 6 mil. it leaves 10 mil over for arsene to play youth lotto .. or if you want to go
with a player who is hot and talented with a future i have a list below

    1.Ibrahimovic
    2.podolski
    3.kluse
    4.saviola
    5.david villa
    6.maxi lopez
7.torres ( but i think liverpoo will standa better chance
    of securing his signiture)

all european and all proven goal scorers
so there you have it .. pool from EPL or top names from europe ..
although i can only see us signing owen and anelka in all honesty.

  21. well in every paper they are tipping anelka!!!
then Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Ryan Babel…

seems like thats the speculative 1st 2nd and 3rd.

  22. For all those that say this is a great chance for our young players to step out of henry’s shadow and with a good signing this team will be fine i agree with you…if we can make the good signing and given wengers contract situation & the takeover stuff then persuading any top player to sign for us will be very very hard. I notice when fans talk about some of the possible replacements being unproven in the prem they omit the name of betdner. This kid ia a rookie in the prem too and hardly set the championship alight last year either so i dont think its fair to expect too much from him next season. I still think torres coming in for reyes and cash looks a good deal but i wouldnt mind seeing jose stay now that his tormentor is gone

  23. Hi. I saw your blog post title when I was signing in to WordPress this morning all got all excited, I thought someone (you) was/were writing about my favorite band of all time (headed by Paul Westerberg)… oh well, I’m not a sports fan but decided to say hi while I was here.
    Have a good weekend. 🙂

  24. augie,
    your dead right ..
im sure wenger will have to COMMIT shortly ,id say before the pre-season is underway.
this week is my tip !
MARK MY WORDS (yogi)it will either be caio bella , or 3 years on the dotted line ..
cause without that how can we get any big names into the club who have faith in us!?
and i wouldnt want a NON-COMMITAL MANAGER SPENDING 30 mil on transfers if you wer’nt around to
    see out the season ..

  25. Well put, YW and Passenal. And thanks for reminding us the need to stay positive and supportive for our young guns in the middle of all this chaos. There are actually a few reasons for which we can be optimistic:

    1. A couple of games (e.g. home league game against ManU and away FA Cup tie against Liverpool) aside, the guys actually played very well without Thierry. Great example is the away league game against ManU. Adebayor and RvP have my votes of confidence, while Bendtner and Walcott (less so) are still unproven for me.

    2. Without those Gallic shrugs and famously scary stares, the kids might well be set free, stepping out of his big shadow.

    3. Now we have a good captain in Gilberto, with Kolo and Cesc are lining up in the longer term. They truly have the leadership skills we need to play as a team, as opposed to a pace-setting front-runner who almost nobody else could get close to.

    4. We can experiment many ways of scoring other than working the ball around Thierry. With the subject of our over-reliance taken away, not only may we set free the forwards, but the midfielders might just step up to shoulder part of the goal-scoring responsibility and start getting their runs too. Though not a goal machine, I would think Rosicky, Cesc and maybe Hleb have more goals in them.

    5. With this 16m, plus the 1-2m each from the sales of Aliadiere, Flamini and 8m from Reyes, we should be able to get a replacement striker and a winger to beef up the midfield. I’m personally hoping for Torres with Reyes+cash to Atletico Madrid, or a Huntelaar+Babel double swoop with cash from the Henry+Reyes sales. I know I’m dreaming a bit big, but we haven’t done so in the transfer market for a few years, why not now.

All is not lost. We survived the loss of Patrick Vieira. So will we now. No point joining the press in painting the picture of doom and gloom. Let’s keep our faith.

  26. http://englishfootball.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=1008&p=2&stid=8449664

Nice to see that Aliadiere has carried on a grand tradtion that seems always to afflict our ex-players. Sticking the boot in.

  27. jimmy i see what you mean .. BELOW

    QUOTE:-
    J.Aliadiere

But that won’t be the end of players running for the exit door. If Arsene Wenger fails to commit to the club beyond his current deal, which runs out at the end of the season, more will follow.

There have been signs that Cesc Fabregas could also leave for Spain while Willam Gallas could move to Italian giants AC Milan. But it’s Wenger’s future that everything hangs on.

THE KEY BIT IN ALL THIS IS :-

If Arsene Wenger fails to commit to the club

WHY CANT ANYONE ESPECIALLY Yogi , AND Passenal SEE THIS !!. IVE BEEN ON THIS ISSUE FOR THE LAST 2 WEEKS
AND YOUVE ALL SAID IM CRAZY , IT WONT HAPPEN .
HE WONT SIGN ? WHY IS MY QUESTION?
    HE MOULDED THIS CLUB
NOW HE’S AFFRAID TO BACK US ?
SO WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE THE FANS AND PLAYERS
    WHO ARE ACTUALLY COMMITED..
TOO ME I SAW IT COMMING LIKE SANTA CLAUS ON CHRISTMAS NIGHT !
WE NOW HAVE HAD 3 PLAYERS OF OURS STATE THIS
JEREMIE- HENRY AND FABS .. HOW MANY MORE PLAYERS DO YOU WANT TO LOOSE BEFORE YOU START UNDERSTANDING
WE NEED ARSENE TO COMMIT NOW !!!

AS VIVID FANS OF THE CLUB YOU DONT KNOW THE PERSONALITIES OF OUR PLAYERS VERY WELL . FABS AND GALLAS ARE LINING UP NOW .. AS WE SPEAK !

  28. anybody but owen, he’s just not arsenal material!

  29. AW will stay on beyond 2008, unless there is a boardroom fight and AW becomes the casualty. But then again, who in the boardroom can elbow AW out? None.

AW will stay. He has a large stock of good to great players emerging from nowhere. Where do you think he will find a greater challenge than to mould another great team? MU, Barca, AC, Chelsea? None of these, cos none of these will give him the time to build a team. He can only do it at Arsenal.

TH has gone. Thanks for the memories. Players come and go, but for us, diehards, we stay through the thick and thin. We don’t follow a player, let alone a manager. We follow a club. Players and managers are employees. In this game, there is plenty of loyalty from us fans, but little loyalty from them. Players go where they can make a living. It is just an employment for them. When we lose a match we feel the heartbreak. We wallow in grief and sadness for days, even weeks. We can’t think straight, as if you lost a loved one. Players usually don’t. They go shopping, have dinners, and spend the money we pay them as if “it was just a game”! We love them when they play for Arsenal, but it is not usually they love us back.

So, no hard feelings. Thanks again TH for the great memories.

  30. He can do even better.
