A quiet few days on the news front to such an extent that even the hacks cannot find anyone new to link us with. Must be very quiet for them not to be able to do that, I’m sure you’ll agree. All of which made it quite easy to remember the promise of not touching the Computer yesterday to spend Father’s Day with the kids. Families, who’d have ‘em.
The biggest rumour seems to have emenated from the mouth of an Agent, so forgive me if I’m a tad sceptical of the source. Barry Silkman deflected attention from the Stevens Report by claiming to be working on a big transfer for Arsenal. My own suspicion, if anything pans out, is that it is a move out of the Club for someone rather than someone coming in. On that subject, perhaps Jose Antonio Reyes’ brace to clinch the title for Real yesterday will persuade someone to make a concrete offer for him now the Spanish season is over. Nothing like a headline grabbing cameo to boost your ‘ratings’. And with the season completed there, no doubt that the rumours about Henry will increase to a level akin to that which The Who achieved at The Valley in the mid-70’s although Ludovic Giuly kicked France Football squarely in the nads by a strenuous rebuttal about how he had given Henry advice about buying a house. Given that he is subject to rumour of a move to Scotland himself, perhaps Giuly’s house selling technique needs a bit of working on. The rumour mill though shows that no-one is immune to it, France Football’s reputation as a decent magazine has taken a severe battering with the constant rebuttals of its stories yet they show no sign of self-control so if a respected magazine is caught in the tawdry millstone, no-one is safe.
Justin Hoyte and Nedum Onuoha were the recipients of some racial abuse from the Serbs during and after yesterday’s Under 21 International; Mijhalovic’s legacy continues to live on. Whilst UEFA will no doubt investigate and hand a fine of a couple of thousand dollars, until someone receives a ban for this, I am sceptical that they will actually have any impact on the problem. If that seems harsh, and racism is a ’social’ problem as opposed to purely one in football’s remit, their inability to eradicate it on the playing area does not fill me with any confidence in their strength of character to effect change.
’til Tomorrow.

Its Mihjailovic you tit

Interesting sales for the Emirates cup are poor, the club have to realise the importance of PR. All the speculation just makes the club look though it’s in crisis. Terry Neil said in his biography that he always sought one big name transfer every year to create a good vibe and talking point the trouble with Arsenal is that it has always been about whose leaving Anelka-Overmars/Petit-Vieira-Henry

Ah, Guily! What a tw*t he is! Now denying he said anything. This is the guy who was telling all and sundry that he knew for certain that Henry was moving to Barca to be near his best Ami, Ludovic!!!!
W*nker can;t get a game for Barca….Adios

yeah cause Terry Neil was a success…..who did we sign just before the invincibles season?, do your reasearch and post again….idiot

The vibe from the Barry Silkman interview was that it was an inbound signing, although of course you could be right and he was just trying to divert thoughts away from bungs. After last night’s match, I guess Robinho would be available fairly cheap if we still wanted him….

Oh and gooner – why the need to be so stroppy – your points are both correct but by calling people “tits” and “idiots” you undermine them.

Interesting about Ludovic. He said “Titi didn’t call me to talk about his transfer to Barcelona”. Meaning its not speculation and he IS transferring to Barca, he just hasn’t spoke to him about it.
Has guily let slip something? I hope not. This is how crazy Ive become about this Henry speculation. Analyzing every person that is connected speech, words, context everything. All point in different directions. If Henry leaves, I will be able to sleep….Crying myself to sleep. But sleep nonetheless.

Gooner, calm down. Why do you have to resort to childish attacks like that? What are you angry about? Don’t Mummy and Daddy love you enough?

One man’s Mihajlovic is another man’s Mijhalovic or yet another’s Mihjailovic.
The serious point is Uefa have a chance to make a statement here . If these allegations are proved true then Serbia should be kicked out of the tournament.

Vivb – it is not surprising that the sales for the Emerates Cup are poor. I doubt they would expect more than 15-20k for what amounts to a training exercise.
I agree Arsenal’s PR is not great but it much much better than in Terry Neill’s day.
What do you do about continuous gossip though?
You cannot really be selective about what you reply to so it is better to just ignore everything until a fact is a fact.

Does anyone see the very real possibility that Reyes will be snapped up by Real after his title-winning performance?
Reyes’ performance might just override all the average ones he put in over the course of the season. Madrid fans are a fickle bunch and it wouldn’t be too farfetched to think that he might become some sort of a cult hero in Madrid after this game. That might force the Real board to sign him and put Arsenal in an excellent bargaining position.
Any thoughts?

Hey Gooner, I think my points relevent, the press are circling the club and it creates an atmosphere of anxiety. The difference with the invinciple team is that we had a core of players that had seen and done it they were proven winners, indeed the team should have won the title the year before as they were the best team in the country (making it 3 titles in a row).
It’s not exactly what you would say about the team at the moment. Indeed Wenger has been rebuilding ever since.
This comes to the root of the problem at Arsenal to sustain the highest ticket prices in football/corporate income you have to play have the best players hence Barcelona’s Galactico strategy and chasing of Henry a player to put bums on seats. Strip Henry out of the Arsenal team and who is the major draw/shirt seller. Of course it is an opportunity for other players to fill his boots and I’m sure his exit would see a replacement arrive do the club build into their figures merchandising revenues? Like it or not the “tourist” fan is critical in keeping turnover up and brand development and allowing the team to compete with Chelsea etc with it’s own resources.

Its a fair point. We exist in a global market and all clubs have to fight for recognition. It may be wrong but the reality is a big signing each year gives the perseption of a big club.
I just came back from Vietnam. They had a football channel with Liverpool, MU and Chelsea TV showing non stop. In the markets they had wallets, etc with those clubs names on them.. nothing with Arsenal.
Yes there were a few shirts but a definite minority compared to say Malaysia where Arsenal were second in shirt sightings after MU.
Its stupid and no way to run a team ..I agree.. but its the new reality of global media. If we want to be considered a TOP team then we have to make sure we are buying at least one top player or wining titles if our team doesnt need help. Based on the past 3 years we need help so we need to make big name signings.
I guess the problem is our last big name signing [Reyes] was a complete prat so AW goes for thge mid level names a la Rosicky.

The rate of ticket sales is reduced because it is the holiday season. I bet the stadium is nearly full during the competition. Fans will drift back…starved of football for too long The major draw for most Arsenal fans is the squad, not one particular player. Just to see the first team play is good enough. That is why the season ticket waiting list is so long. You don’t put your self on a season ticket waiting list to see Thierry Henry. As for tourist fans, most will want to see the stadium for the first time. I for one am looking forward to seeing RvP play in the same team as Bendtner. I want to see how sharp Tomas is after a break…and how fresh William Gallas looks etc. They are all galacticos in our house.

Absolutely Frank! I support the whole team not one player. I was a big fan of Ian Wright, then PV4 but their respective departures did not affect my love for the club, neither did I switch alliegance to the clubs they moved onto.
Whilst I accept the need to have a high profile in the global market, ‘tourist’ fans who only follow the club for the big name players are a luxury and should not dictate who stays or goes, which should only be decided by the manager in terms of their usefulness on the pitch.

one thing is for sure ,even if real dont sign reyes on a perminant deal all the press and HERO STATUS he’s received in the last 20 odd hours in spain means we might actually get a decent fee from the lad !and hence get a world class player to replace him ..
. id rather deal with facts based upon what has been said by players (on and off the pitch)and managers alike .. i think the rest you can toss in a garbage bin marked pending !
jeremie and flamini also look set to join POOM and MUAMBA
at the exit door so hopefully soon we should get some fresh faces (older than 16 ) thru the door ..
PENDING

i did read that fat sam is looking to sign kanute as the OWEN negotiations have broken down .. IM NOT STATING arsenal are signing him .
But im sure if owen didnt have any other better offers from a top 4 club he would stay putt . wouldnt he ??
can anyone help me on this , as i think owen with his past injuries and a few seasons on the ‘outta’ might be too bigger gamble .
another rumour is anelka is being looked at by arsene.
By: ethan_gooner on June 18, 2007

A lot of people are talking about Anelka, but I wouldn’t want him back now – he’s actually older than the vast majority of our strike force and seemingly not as hungry. I’d happily mark him down as a wonderful piece of business some years ago, and that’s it.

Yogi,
“France Football’s reputation as a decent magazine has taken a severe battering with the constant rebuttals of its stories.”
Are the denials “too loud”? I wonder…
I agree with the comments that Arsenal could be much better marketed globally.
As for the racism allegedly directed at the England U21s, I’d be surprised, sad as I’m to say it, if FIFA put their foot down. Nothing in their past points to a resolve to deal decisively with the problem.
May I be proved wrong.

yes to be honest pete i hope they dont sign either of them ..
but you would think if it was really a top name player , someone
would already be hinting towards a move to arsenal ..
it would be good if someone like messi or kaka went on the record
stating there interested in a arsenal move..
but i also believe in santa claus

help us out on this issue , as im struggling to understand
why henrys agent is pressing charges , as it did seem arsene
met with a barca deligate to discuss henrys move .. IN FRANCE
isnt this the same meeting that henrys agent is saying DIDNT HAPPEN !? i mean arsene was seen with said agent for the club .. ok henrys agent wasnt there , but there is an element of truth to the story , and a magazines job is to SCOOP stories . they didnt get it too wrong in my opinion…
i havnt really followed this story as its namby pamby irrelevant drivel that i avoid .. but it seems to be gaining momentum ..
and isnt there such a thing as freedom of the press? i know it doesnt involve fabricating stories but there is obviously some element of truth to the story .

Just wondered whether Wenger might have been discussing the purchase of Guilly at the meeting in Paris not the sale of Henry. Might explain the Guilly change of attitude!
By: ps7 on June 18, 2007

ethan_gooner – Henry’s agent threatened to sue because he was accused of something, which is against the rules i.e. meeting with Barcelona and agreeing personal terms for his client before Arsenal have agreed to sell him.
I don’t know whether Arsene was seen speaking to anyone from Barcelona, but the papers have certainly taken 2 and 2 and made 5 because he could just as easily have been discussing someone transferring from Barcelona to Arsenal. It’s probably best to just wait and see.

Ethan
My guess is that he feels his integrity has been impugned by the story, something that may be perceived to affect his relationship with TH14, Arsenal and as Passenal says, affecting his actions in conjunction with FIFA’s rules.
Agents in this country are sensitive at the moment because of the Stevens Report which seems to have made scattergun accusations in the last week. Although all Clubs, Players and Officials were supposedly cleared, three managers have apparently not answered all of the questions to the liking of the Inquisitors, but nobody has actually said what their infractions are.
