My apologies for the late post this morning but I’ve only just come out of my comatose state following on from yesterday’s FA Cup Final. Quite possibly that was the worst Final I have ever seen and we’ll leave it at that.
A recurring theme with the transfer targets today. Firstly number 25 on the list of targets is Albert ‘The Bull‘ Zapater, a defensive midfielder, will apparently be a snip at £7m. Twenty two years old, he seems to me to be competition for Diaby if this is true but I doubt that it is. I don’t know about you but I have suspicions about any footballers that come with a nickname, especially those forged in La Liga. Once bitten, twice shy is all I would say to Arsene. The next rumour is that we will be signing Chateauxbriand from Rennes. Sorry but I saw the surname and that was it, they lost me. I know nothing of the player other than he will probably play alongside Beef Wellington at some point. Given the Bovine nature of the names, it would a cheap shot to dismiss it all as a load of old Bull so it must be reassuring for you to know that no depths are too low to be plumbed here.
Franck Ribery may not be coming to Arsenal after all. In the past two weeks he has repeatedly stated that he wants Champions League football next season and would prefer it if it were achieved with Marseilles. Well, they did just that last night so it may not be too bad a thing given our last French signing’s ability to annoy the hell out of everyone by blaming the lack of experience on last seasons’ failings. Step forward, William Gallas, and take some responsibility for it. Football is a collective sport and not one for individuals to absolve themselves of all blame particularly when they have been missing for a third of a season and upon their return do not display their best abilities. If he stays, next season could be his last if we fail to win anything is how it is being portrayed whereas I tend to think of him as just a whinging Git who happens to be a very good footballer and needs to ensure that his own displays are at their peak before he starts criticising others. Gallas will no doubt have been thrilled to read The People’s Daily to find that we are being linked with another 17 year old starlet, this time Kolbeinn Sigthorsson from HK in Reykjavik. All I can say is that it must be a slow football week in China if they have started on making up football rumours as well.
Steve Bruce meanwhile must be feeling somewhat depressed at losing Nicklas Bendtner so he is seeking solace in buying another Arsenal player, this time its Johann Djourou over whom he is casting his seductive gaze at least that’s what the News Of The World reckons. The same paper by the way ‘reports’ that Arsene is worried about losing Thierry Henry this summer. If that is the case then Arsene should give him a little card to hang around his neck, rather like a Dog Collar, which has his name and address and a contact phone number on it.
Emmanuel Adebayor’s Mr 15% has been speaking since the striker signed a new deal last week,
Manu signed his deal. He wanted to stay and work with Arsene – although there were very good offers from Juventus and Manchester United. He feels at home at Arsenal and has a real bond with the fans. Now he wants to repay Arsene’s faith in him
Journalists everywhere must have been choking on that one. An Arsenal player happy to stay and not linking his future to that of Le Boss? My God! Whatever next. Arsene staying???
It’s Sunday, the sun is shining and I’m another year older as my wife enjoyed telling me. Still a toyboy though, Dear, eh? ’til Tomorrow.

Let us hope C’briand won’t need it laid on 2 plates to score a goal, if he joins us.
Perhaps we should ascribe animal/food or characteristic connotations nicknames to all the squad!
Johann “the Kangeroo” Djourou perhaps?
or Manny “the Rhubarb Crumble” Eboue
or Alexander “the Picky Eater” Hleb?
The ladies do seem to take such delight us chaps getting older. Did you get another book that no one in their right mind would buy, because they thought you would like it?

Wishful thinking: Would Steve Bruce be interested in buying Senderos?
That failing, would Steve Bruce fancy taking Senderos on loan?
Will a season under a former-defender/Manager help him improve?

Not funny. In any case what’s the point in simply re-posting old news? At least add some comment worth thinking about.

Can we see if Steve Bruce, or anyone, will take Hleb?
I am sure we could persuade someone to take him for as little as £5 million, though I realise having to pay them that will take our transfer budget back down from £40 million to £35 million.
But it will help our title aspirations in the long run.
He really is the most appalling load of crap to ever wear the Arsenal shirt. Buying him has even got me wondering whether Wenger is now taking bungs. He’s worse than Glen Helder!

Piss off, FOFFHLEB. Hleb is a bloody dribbling genius, unlocks defenses, tireless in his work rate. Yes he lacks a shooting touch but that is not his main role on the team. You’re a tosser. We are much better with him than without him. And have you forgotten the CL run already? I hate you bandwagon-jumpers.

Hleb is shit. End of.

You are just plain wrong FOffHleb.
Hleb suffered from a lack of confidence in the later part of the season mainly because of prats like you expecting him to shoot on sight when that is not his game.

I am sure that this should be “stakes a claim” rather than “steaks a claim” unless I am missing some irony here?

He’s shit and we all know it. Stop fooling yourself with excuses you don’t believe.

I know Sigthorsson and the rumor is true – Wenger wants him and has tried to sign him into the youth program for the past 3 years.

Hmm… so when lots of fans say they wish we had a bit more experience in the side, they are only expressing the natural opinion of people that want the club to win things.
But if a player should say the same, he’s a whinger?
I suppose Thierry’s a whinger too? He also was injured a lot and never played at the top of his game, and has a few things to say about what could be better.
Haven’t read the original articles with Gallas’ comments, but bearing in mind how dodgy the media are in how they portray people, I’m not all that interested.
Half the time when they interview someone they ask questions designed to get answers that they can spin into something controversial.
They ask: “Are you disappointed not to win anything this year?”
Then they they write up the natural answer as: “X slams disappointing Arsenal.”
They do it with Arsene all the time.

Gallas Quote: “I know Arsenal have got some talented young players, but I won’t be at the club in a few years’ time and I want to win something next season.”
The s**t stirrers in the press make this into Gallas-threatens-to-leave-and-slams-the-young-players.
When all the guy seems to be saying is: I know there’s a great future coming, but I’m too old to be around for that. So I really want to win trophies next season.
I doubt Thierry or Gilberto would disagree with a word of that.
