(0 – 1) Anelka (11)
(1 – 1) Rosicky (31)
(2 – 1) Fabregas (46)
Ivan Campo Sent Off (82)
Busy day for the London Ambulance Service in N5 yesterday. There were scores of people fainting after two Arsenal midfielders scored in one game. Three much needed points all but secured fourth and put pressure back on Liverpool, recreating a race for third place. A win on Tuesday should nail ECL Qualification, a gap of eight points surely being too much at this stage of the season. A second win in two games will also put the team in a good frame of mind ahead of next Saturday’s lunchtime visit to White Hart Lane. But that is getting ahead of myself; all I want to do now is enjoy the feeling of relief that these three points have brought.
A familiar pattern to the game; a goal down at home, requiring an Arsenal fightback. Which this time duly arrived before half-time. Anelka’s goal was conceded through sloppy defending. A lofted free-kick found the head of an unmarked Nolan whose effort was parried into the path of Anelka by Lehmann. One nil, not even quarter of an hour gone; years gone by may have seen some trepidation but no longer for this squad have had enough practice at retrieving a one goal deficit. The response was as expected. Lots of possession and chances going begging, a combination of sloppy finishing and good goalkeeping.
The equaliser when it came was out of character for this team. The key was the simplicity, Adebayor’s cross after a neat one-two, found Rosicky more alive to the moment than Hunt, with the Czech having enough time to dummy Jaaskaleinen into going to his right before shooting to the keepers left. Six yards out and a poachers goal.
The winner was much better, until the celebration that is. It shows how rare such occurences are that Fabregas ran around like an epileptic chicken after scoring, the boy may be classy with the ball but the celebration definitely needs working on. The goal itself just rams home the message that he has maturity beyond his years. Picking up on Gilberto’s pass, he coolly went left, right and centre, becalmed and unphased by the movement around him, he slotted home from just inside the area. Two goals in fifteen minutes turned the afternoon around. It was also a lesson to his team-mates in finishing. Adebayor and Diaby both fluffed one on one’s with the Bolton keeper, the latter having resisted the challenge of Baptista, which may well have unsettled him.
Freddie Ljungberg played well in support of Adebayor, confirming that whilst he is not yet back to his best, his form is considerably better than in has been in the past two seasons; he deserved better than to see his freekick clear the bar. Toure and Adebayor forced saves from Jaaskaleinen whilst Hleb went close with a curling effort. Others had chances that came and went, the defence had its scares. Eboue was fortunate to get the benefit of the doubt late in the game when he controlled the ball with his arm in the area, a penalty if you are the home team, not if you are visiting.
Arsene said afterwards,
sometimes, to improve, a young team needs to flirt with difficult periods so that you can come back stronger and I have been deeply impressed by our mentality
Which is very true; the one thing that is missing is experience which is sometimes better gained through hardship. Yet one cannot help thinking that it would be nice if they just took teams apart without conceding a goal! Meanwhile, Big Sam proved that myopia is not the sole preserve of Arsene when it comes to seeing things on the pitch,
Ivan Campo’s first booking was unwarranted
Er, no, Sam, it was warranted. Kicking the calf of an opponent who is three feet from the referee, after the ball has gone is criminally stupid. Campo got two merited yellow cards and walked accordingly.
Whilst the three points is welcome, it is naive to believe that all of the problems of the previous four weeks or so have gone away. However, today is a day for relaxing those vexed minds.

Agreed our problems probably are not over but a win is a win and confidence will now hopefully flood inn and another three points on tues will get that belief going again. To bring on Diaby to play upfront shows that Aliadaire and Baptista are clearly not going to be around next season. Although Freddie did better im not sure he is ever going to get back to what he was perhaps for him to go whilst we could get decent money for him might be a better option, as previously stated i would like Arsene to go out and buy a goalscoring winger from somewhere ie in the mould of Overmars/Robben. I feel we would have been jumping up and down if we didnt get that penalty yesterday but with our luck over the past month i think we deserved to have that decision go our way and Bolton definitely did not deserve to get anything from that game all that they could muster was to play high balls up and hope they could get a knock on from somewhere. I must say i am greatly impressed with Ade up front he has fantastic ability if only he could find that goalscoring touch he would be up there with the best. Even with the first choice defence out i still think we look tense especially with an aerial threat whether Toure and Gallas can get it together remains to be seen they look too much alike to me but lets hope they do sooner rather than later. It looks like Jens is staying which i am ok about as long as he cuts out the crap but i suppose we have to accept that thats his personality that makes him what he is. So to tues and three points we hope!

I have to disagree with you about Cesc celebration, sure it wasn’t the most asthetic, but to me, it was the best moment of the match. The pure venting of frustration and joy told me an important thing about my favorite player, something i already knew mind you, but it confirmed that HE CARED!! pure and simple it was a joy to watch an amazing talent who could have his pick of suitors, in an underachieving team care so much about winning, and care so much about the team.
It tell you all you need to know about him, and shows you what has been lacking from a few players this season.
Thank You Cesc for Caring.

Good Match Report, I watched the game on the Internet (Sopcast, the quality is actually not bad for anyone who can’t get to the Emirates). Sometimes it felt like the players had been reading the blogs over the last week, Rosicky was desperate to score and I was pleased to see that they all started mixing it up and actually took a shot from outside the box.
Even Hleb who has faced the brunt of critisicism (Including from myself) seemed to be putting more effort in, he still gets dizzy in the box though and it needs addressing if he is ever going to be anywhere near the finished article. I tought Toure had a good game to, it is a shame we don’t have the depth at the back as I would love to see him play midfield as he seems to just rip the opposition apart on surging runs.
I stilll think we need strengthening though, and can’t think that everything is ok after one spirited result, if Hunt had of cleared that ball as he was entitled to do then yesterday could easily have been another frustrating afternoon. And we need to build on this newly return of confidence and get the 3 points on Tuesday as after that it is Spuds away and batty boys return, and they could be tricky.
It looks like West Ham are down, so Tevez would be IMO a good signing or maybe Klose, Wright-phillips, Ribery and a Keeper would cheer me up in the summer and give me confidence that this time next year we would be in with a shout. If not maybe invest the cash in a Center parcs type tropical dome over the Emirates and take Reyes back.

Why is Senderos continually on the bench?

You are up early on a Sunday Veteran.
This game was like many of the others except on this occasion we accepted 2 of our numerous chances.
Can anyone confirm that Davies didn’t get a touch on the free kick that led to their goal, because if he did Nolan was yards offside.
Great performances from Cesc & particularly Gilberto.
You know I don’t like critising players but what has changed Eboue from the full back of last season’s CL campaign to the headless chicken we now see. If he cannot use his extreme pace to get down the flank we would be much better playing the defensively sounder Hoyte.
Poor old Beast’s confidence is totally shot- he just has to be better than we have seen so far- he was actually a liability when he came on. You should have seen Arsene’s reaction when he & Diaby contrived to miss that 2 on 1 with the keeper !!

Arsene still has to buy players in the summer if he is to challenge next season. Hleb is problematic at the moment and I wonder if he is being tapped by another team.

We’re on 59 points from 33 games.
A win against Man City is so, so vital as it will take us to 62 from 34.
Bolton are on 54 from 34, Everton are on 51 from 33.
One team we have to keep an eye out on are Spurs. 48 from 32. a win today will put them 8 points behind us with 5 to play, including a head to head.
A win against Man City will leave:
Bolton needing 9 points from games against Reading (H), Chelsea (A), West Ham (A) & Villa (H) just to overtake us on 62 pts
Everton requiring 12 points from games against Charlton (H), West Ham (A), Man Utd, (H), Portsmouth (H) & Chelsea (A just to overtake us on 62 pts).
A draw for Spurs today will be practically fatal but even if they do, they will need 15 points from games against Wigan(A), Arsenal (H)
Middlesbro’ (A), Charlton (A), Blackburn (H), Man City (A) just to overtake us on 62 pts.
Yesterday’s win was massive but we’re not there. We’ve got a difficult run-in because City and Fulham are fighting to secure survival and games against Spurs & Chelsea are always difficult. On top of that, no-one likes going to Fratton Park and our old boys will no doubt want to do well against us.
Come on Arsenal!

No doubt the win was massive. Overall we played well, Freddie comes up for special mention cos I think he led the way with determination – something other players saw and copied. Although Freddie could not reproduce what he did years ago, his determination got the team going. It’s the performance of the experienced players that are vital.
Cesc played very well, even after almost been KOed by Lehmann. Again it is his determination. Hope it rubs off on other players like Adebayour, Eboue, Hleb, even Lehmann. Eboue was a very lucky chap. It looked like a penalty, but since not many Bolton players appealed, and very likely the ref saw it side-on, Eboue got away with it. But to kick the ball into touch was not smart – it gave the impression that he himself admitted to the handball.
That Davies fellah is a typical English thug, and yet our TH14 heaped such praise on him not so long ago. TH14 is not such a great character judge. You never praise opponents before a game against you, cos you will gee him up. Like AW’s comments on Andy Johnson before our loss to Everton. There is no need for diplomacy in football. Like they say, you must be generous in victory and gracious in defeat – you say good things about your opponents AFTER the game, not before.
Anyway, think about it, a few months ago, we would not consider Arsenal v Bolton as a must win game. Would have been thinking about Arsenal v AC Milan then. So our stocks have plummetted, football stocks that is, not our share price. Let’s move on then.
A friend asked me yesterday whom I think will win the Premiership, FA Cup and Champions League. I told her, “frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn”!
I want to see us have a great start next season. This is not a wish, this is an expectation. Professional players wearing the Arsenal jersey must want the same. This season is past us, another rebuilding season, we say. Next season is the real deal.

I`m so glad about this win over Bolton. Finally Arsenal managed to beat Bolton, even though I though, after Anelka`s goal, that this was meant to be another defeat at the hands of Bolton.
