Some Spurious Transfer Gossip (Probably) And MEP’s Are The Biggest Hooligans Of The Lot

After the football frenzy at the weekend, the majority of the squad will be sold in the Summer if everyone’s wishes come true. Some hate Hleb, others Baptista, some Senderos, Rosicky, Clichy. In fact the only two whom nobody has shown any desire to dump are Fabregas and Toure. Which is a pretty sad state of affairs for the Support to be in. And extremely bad news for Arsene who is quoted on the official website as saying,

With the fans’ support we can beat Bolton

Well, Arsene is going to need some other inspiration for that because it seems to me that there is a vocal minority outrightly critical of the club and certain individuals and a passive majority who are despondent at recent results but otherwise happy. It is time for the majority to make more noise.

Transfer news is more plentiful at the moment. I say news, gossip is a better description. It seems that Yago Fernandez’s Mr 15% is telling porkies as Arsene claimed never to have even heard of the boy when asked last week so his dream move to The Emirates could well be up the swanny. However, a possibility to consider is that a deal has been done but not yet ratified at Board Level. Either that or the whole story was a vague attempt to screw a Professional Contract out of Valencia.

Phillipe Senderos is being tracked by Monaco, Lille and Hamburg apparently. Described as ‘out of favour’ in the Press, it is believed that a £2m bid would prise him away. Jeremie Aliadiere’s departure is gaining momentum in the press with Middlesbrough and Everton impressed enough by his outings in the Carling Cup to shell out for his services, with those two also being tipped as new homes for Matthieu Flamini. One returnee to the club in the summer will be Nicklas Bendtner, who by all accounts has set himself up nicely as an Arsenal player by starting the brawl at Oakwell. When I commented the other day about him starting ten games next season, I obviously thought that was due to the fact that Henry & Co would not get so many injuries. However, it seems he may only be available for ten games at this rate. Fair play to the lad though as he will fit in well, provided that he signs the four year contract he has reportedly been offered.

Hooliganism is starting to occupy the minds of all and sundry in the light of recent events and I am not about to pompously postulate my social theories, there are plenty of other (not so) well-educated numpties who will do that in the media. The biggest threat of hooliganism to Club football is coming from an unlikely country. The Yobs from Strasbourg have mooted the idea of a European Super League following on from The Independent European Football Review, sponsored by Sports Minister Richard Caborn. According to The Guardian, Ivo Belet, a Belgian MEP, has said that “a European super league that distributed cash across Europe was a perfect solution” for the increased wealth of the top Clubs, enabling UEFA to undertake a proper wealth redistribution programme. And kill off any investment in Clubs in the process for there are very few of the G-14 who will be an attractive investment proposition if they know a large portion of their profits are going to go to the lower tiers. Quite how much each of the smaller clubs would get is not calculated but about £26.75 would be my guess. One of Belet’s other proposals is to allow UEFA to licence domestic football, rendering the FA as nothing more than an ineffective talking shop. So no change there then. Whilst the Powers That Be may get all wet in the knicker department, they need to fully consider the implications of a Super League. As in everyone will get bored if Arsenal play AC Milan four times a season for fifteen years. At that point we may actually be crying out for a visit to The Ricoh Arena by way of a change.

Finally, rumours abound that the Ice Skunk may actually own about 15% of the Club. I can guess where those rumours have come from and they need to be treated with some scepticism. However, fair play to the Arsenal Supporters Trust for trying to find out his intentions and get to meet the man who is supposedly going to be the new owner. They will come away being told a lot but still not knowing the true intentions is my own cynical view but as a certain telephone company used to say, It’s Good To Talk. May I suggest though that the following quote attributed to the Trust could be construed as, well, provactive,

We cannot stop someone buying the majority of shares but we can prevent the worst – where an intruder buys all the shares and turns the club into a private money making machine

Erm, no you can’t stop that. If the majority shareholder decides to pay a dividend, it will be voted through. If he decides to cross-charge interest or other costs, it will go through. The statement over-estimates the power that the minority shareholders have in the business’s operational decisions. More to the point, as Manchester United have shown, when a breakaway supporters club is formed, it has jacksh*t effect on attendances and commercial revenues. But that is to get ahead of ourselves unless by the time you read this, he has bought the Club.

Responses

  1. arsenal should buy big players.

  2. So Big Phil Senderos (3 years in Premiership / 2 Champions League campaigns / 1 World Cup) is worth 20% of Curtis Davies (0/0/0)…. That makes sense…

  3. Personally I really really hope we do not sell Senderos as I totally rate him even though he has had some below par displays this season but so did Tony Adams in his early days (He wasnt called donkey for nothing.) Personally I would rather get rid of Gallas as I am not convinced he actually wants to be at the club.

Here is a controversial thought we should re-sign Anelka in the summer.

  4. Doesn’t matter if the Trust can stop the “private money-making” scheme. The existing financing stops asset-stripping on its own. The majority of proceeds from player sales etc have to be reinvested in new players, training facilities etc. The only way round that is for the club to repay the debt, and only a “sugar-daddy” (Abramovic) owner would do that; any owner who was in it for genuine commercial reasons (which covers the whole range from seeing a decent long-term future in the club, to trying to milk it for all it is worth) would want to keep the debt in place given its extremely favourable pricing.

  5. Shit ground, shit fans, shit palyers…that just about sums up you arrogant Arse wankers

  6. Bob mmmm I am drowning in the warm water of your jealousy!

  7. I THINK ARSENAL MANAGER KNOWS THE BEST, SINCE I BELIEVE IN HIM.

  8. Bob, get off the computer and do your remedial KS1 English paper, you foul-mouthed little monkeh.

  9. Drew,

How can you say we should resign Anelka? The man’s a twat!!! There are far better players available and thinking of all his whingeing when he was with us before stills makes me feel angry.

Something obviously needs to be done for next season. Personally I think that Ribery is coming (CL place dependent, obviously), maybe another CB (if Phil goes) and I’d like a renowned striker too (Eto’o would be good, but I don’t see it).

Ps. Are you the infamous Drew10?

  10. What is it with WordPress and Arsenal?
How come you never see any of the other EPL corporates in the top this that and the other lists?

  11. Not sure what length of time Senderos has left on his contract but he does seem to be cheap. I have a lot of time for him – still learning his trade and a willing worker.

As for Anelka, please God no. We saw the best of him all those years ago and we’ve already got 2 outspoken Frenchmen. Another would kill the dressing room. I suspect that he regrets leaving Arsenal when he did. His inability to settle anywhere subsequently speaks volumes. If he were a free transfer though and willing to accept a squad place, he may be useful back up but not as a lead striker.

  12. It is strange that Senderos is not being favoured at the moment . He would have been ideal for the Liverpool game. He is probably leaving?

Arsene needs to release/sell some players to generate funds and space for new experienced preferably scoring forwards. Like Anelka as I suggested a few weeks ago?

Flamini Ljumberg Aliadere and Baptista should go.

  13. Any team would struggle with the bad streak of luck Arsenal has had from february.
Loosing the Carling Cup in the last minutes in a game where they were the dominating team.
Falling out of the FA Cup through a last minute goal in a game they dominated.
Falling out of the Championship trough a lucky goal just before the end.
The season changed through three goals that all came in the last minutes without the team having a real chance to fight back. That’s not only bad team play, it is bad luck.
Your two most important strikers out for the season.
As I said, any team would struggle mentally after such experiences. A couple of games winning would put everything right again. Next year will be different

  14. i think arsene wenger dont know how to sing a big player in transfer window market.

  15. the best solution to the team is to sing mature player

  16. Yeah this is the time of the year when gossiping start and when fans draw conclusions based on their likings instead of player contribution.

I would not sell Sender, instead I would extend his contract if it runs out the next season. He could still be useful for this team taking into consideration so many competitions Arsenal plays.

  17. we should buy Ribery without a doubt
we should attempt to buy either Bale(southampton) or Richards(man citeh)
we should buy 1 of the following: Tevez, Torres, Villa, Eto(we can all live in hope;) )
we should buy Craig Gordon and Steven Naismith

you should all listen to me

Arsene Wenger should sign me ;)

    ciao for now LOOOOSERS

  18. :P :P:P:P:D

  19. Bob
we are are quite pleased with most of our PALYERS! what are yours like?

  20. Toure and Cesc look jaded as much as most of those underperforming, why should the criticism be for only a few players. It is a lot easier to fit it a team that is firing on all cylinders. Many players surely young one can not mentally turn it around or struggle to do so, when things are so frustratingly ‘not clicking’. As a result it becomes as much of a psychological battle than a physical one i.e. low confidence, loss of self belief and uncertainties.. It is a nightmare for strikers and moreso for anyone who cannot score, or pass or play to high standard that one is capable of.
